If i may beg your time, one artist to another: do you think the "fill out an estimate" process makes commissioning more open and easier to navigate for customers? Because I'm considering doing it myself but before i spend a whole five minutes (lol) making the sheet I thought i'd consult an expert.

I personally think so! I think alot of people avoid inquiring for commissions because they’re afraid they’ll disappoint the artist if they can’t afford it. With the form, its really easy to get in, drop all the details and desires, recieve a number and then either accept the terms or ghost. Much less pressure that way. Also avoids disappointment if they’re looking at an old commission sheet that no longer has accurate prices. This keeps everything up to date.

As for you as the artist, I think its largely beneficial to you as well. I take upwards of 30 commissions a month, having a uniform way to collect information on everything instead of trolling through dms on various social medias does WONDERS for organization of projects and time.

Yes! I do references for previously designed characters, as well as designing characters from scratch!!

Do you only contact your commissioners via Gmail? Or do you sometimes ask for their discord and/or social media PMs?

You can totally note you prefer a different line of contact in your form if you’d like! I personally prefer discord or email but instagram/twitter/tumblr also work (I just have my notifications off on those 3)

If you can’t afford it that’s totally ok, there’s no pressure at all! I assume I’m not getting the job until the money actually transfers. Plenty of people just ghost if they decide to not buy. So please don’t worry about getting my hopes up haha.

The range thing is difficult because everything is calculated by complexity of the character(s), the deadline, the style, the detail of background, etc etc so anything I give you would be like…. “This costs anywhere between 80-250 dollars” and I imagine that doesn’t help at all.
