dojima-san.

for as much shit as he gives him, dojima knows adachi is his favorite new addition to the station. at least partially because any new addition is exciting. adachi is lazy, more often than not, but he’s sharper than he lets on, and he makes good company.
that being said, he does irritate the hell out of dojima at least half of the time.
one of those times being now, as he mouths off about how hard dojima works him, as if they aren’t off duty at a bar, drinking off of dojima’s tab. ungrateful ass. he knows… he knows he works harder than he needs to. probably too hard. but it’s the demand of the field. he isn’t going to help anyone by just sitting around.
“you know, adachi, you could stand to shut up sometimes. might be a good look on you.” he grumbles, taking a drag from his cigarette. seriously, the guy is on his third drink and he’s still giving dojima shit. it’s like he doesn’t respect him at all. hell, he probably doesn’t.
this place is shit. in every conceivable way. the station is tiny (probably about the same size as one conference room at his previous job). the town had next to nothing in it besides a junes. even that was limited in comparison. the civilians were boring. nothing but petty gossip and stupid complaints. no nightlife. nothing fun to do. overall, terrible. he didn’t recommend it.
he supposes dojima is alright though. despite how harsh he is and how focused he is on work. being stupidly hot probably swayed him in the right direction. still, the guy could do with taking more breaks. inaba didn’t require that much attention. he may as well be the only detective in town with how much effort he puts into everything.
“it’s no wonder everyone else is terrified of you. they probably see all the grunt work you have me doing and wisely choose to stay far, far away.” short laugh, before he wistfully recalls his time in the city again. “come to think of it, i did less paperwork when i had more cases…” he takes a drink, a short breather before dragging dojima some more.
but dojima speaks first. and he’s rude. a good look on him?? the damn nerve.
a scoff as he places his glass down on the bar. had dojima not been open to what was clearly constructive criticism, he shouldn’t have invited him out. “if you want me to shut up so badly, maybe you should make me.” it was a challenge, of course it was. if dojima truly wanted him to shut up, he should learn to take initiative.
