Holmes and our fave girl talk about all the crime matter how it happen, what did you do, did you put the gun in the closed and so on and then Holmes is thinking... thinking...

He tries to rubber duck Miss Dumbar because she's the nearest human and the one he's talking with and then!

WATSON! We KNOW he's hot and that you find him the best man is the world, but... aaah, you're hopeless. Then Holmes starts vibrating once more! He's excited! He's got it!

And of course in the train he can't, simply can't stay still! He's bouncing on the walls!

At least Holmes makes so that the revolver is retrieved. Watson WILL spend the evening cleaning and drying it while listening to Holmes' reasons. And no funnier past-time until the revolver is dry and in working order! Ah, finished! A pipe before bed, then!

Oh, come on, Holmes! You never understood women, and this one was a very clever one. Stop blaming yourself, my dear! -kissy-

Watson's no more angry at Holmes! Good! Miss Dumbar will be free and all's well what ends well!

thinking about daemons as a manifestation of the soul. and also about being a teenager and having a cringey, weird, flexible and unsettled little soul. how many teenagers in a daemons!verse are out there persuading their souls to take a similar shape to their friends' souls? or accidentally mirroring a crush and being teased relentlessly for it? there's got to be kids going no, this is right, this does feel right, with their daemons trying their damnedest to look comfortable in the shape of a little bird, say, because their hero on tv, or in a book, or in a band, has a little dainty bird daemon. and then, years later, a sibling is going to say hey, remember when you decided he was a bird because you had a crush on that singer? about the colossal st bernard flopped over the entire sofa and a terrible pillow fight will ensue because oh my god, shut up, that never happened it's so embarrassing.

sure visible souls are cute and important and say something about you, but it's also the mortifying ordeal of being known when you're a kid and that's the last thing you need

I have fallen into the pit of Sherlock Holmes inspired characters where one is the brain and the other is the semi-clueless but also mostly normal one whose got a lot of heart and soul and is the viewer’s way of understanding what the hell is happening in the story.

Sherlock Holmes, Poirot, Jeeves and Wooster, and Raffles and Bunny, just to name a few. this character dynamic has me in a chokehold and I NEVER want it to let go.

The stories all work really well because we have that window into characters of such incredible levels of intellect that they NEED another person to make it understandable to the reader and the humanity in the partnership with the other person makes the other character feel more human. It’s a beautiful way to tell a story and I blame Conan Doyle for me entering this rabbit hole.

I’d like to add that this post from @jus-alilcomforblelad is incredibly accurate since I also started with BBC and discovered the other versions of Holmes and have come to truly understand the devices used to make the stories as compelling and interesting as they are. Which then caused my spiral into my current state (which I wouldn’t trade for the world).

Of course not, why do you think my account is named Sherlock. Or why everyone in the press calls me Sherlock, or every other official source about me. Because I prefer that name.

John calls me Sherlock, what else? Although he once tried to call me Sherl, but now he doesn't anymore because he has learned. Shezza he also does not use as he disapproves of the origin of the name. Sometimes very rarely he calls me love but I just think he mistakes me for Rosie and wanted to call her instead. When he is angry he tends to call me a range of creative words, like dick, cock, git, idiot, et cetera.

And I call him John. Sometimes Hamish to annoy him. And Jawn. And doctor. And captain.

silly little headcanon time

since we get to see Spock basically quote Sherlock Holmes, it is now my belief that he's read the books.

Sherlock was Spock's first crush. He found his logic and demeanor interesting and flattering, appreciated the way he never had time for people that weren't willing to listen to him and/or some sort of asset to him. Appreciated that Sherlock plays violin, especially when he needs time to just sit and ponder some big mystery. Found his chemical dependency illogical but could over look it because he was amazing to read about. There wasn't anything Sherlock couldn't achieve with his logic and higher level of thinking. And then Spock grew a bit older and realized that wasn't a crush at all, it was more along the lines of representation. He related to Sherlock, he wasn't crushing on the man. With that knowledge he decided to spend his spare time rereading his mother's old books.

Only on his reread the only character he could seem to pay attention to was Dr. John Watson. The way he acted without thinking, how angry he would get with Sherlock for being so apathetic towards everyone and everything that wasn't the case he was actively involved with. The way Watson seemed to balance out the parts of Sherlock that were disliked by the vast majority of characters in the story. The head strong soldier who was willing to risk it all to help someone in need. He found his infatuation with John Watson fascinating. Eventually he finishes his reread of the old stories and gets caught up in growing up.

He recalls Sherlock Holmes from time to time, typically in passing, often when he looks at a fellow Starfleet officer and says, "Once you eliminate the impossible whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth."

And then he meets the hard headed, fiery, strong willed cadet who already - in his first two weeks in the academy - made a reputation for himself being quick to act, James Tiberius Kirk.
