patch + caress / it's been 84 years, from verona c:
What a strange pair of monsters they make; monsters made. Sephiroth remains still as Verona tenderly plies a blanket of gauze over his wrist. Blood, bright, red, seeps through the pale wrappings like a rosy watercolor. Regularly spaced lines, carved by claws. One for each finger. An incomplete tally.
Four is an appropriate number. Inauspicious. The number of death.
Sitting idle has drained the heat of battle from his skin, and the rise and fall of his chest beneath the loose hospital gown is near imperceptible. The Drum has its own rhythm. Pulse and thrum, ebb and flow. A steady supply of mako moves through curved, arterial pipes. He can hear it even through the veneer of steel at their backs. Above them, below them. Constant. Live with it long enough, and it becomes a part of you. Heartbeat. Inhale. Exhale.
The harsh light strips embedded in the ceiling make him squint. A slight glance upwards causes his pupils to painfully constrict. Any longer would spell a headache. His eyes fall half-mast, with the tickle of long lashes over his cheeks.
He is younger than he looks. Older than he feels.
Still, they have moments. Rare ones, precious ones, when Science finds itself satisfied-- when the machines are silent and they no longer find themselves monitored or measured. Space in which they do not have to be ferocious, where they need not cut until the other bleeds, where they can simply be.
Sephiroth leans into the curve of Verona's palm where it brushes up against his chin, then up along to cup his cheek. He lifts his gaze then. Perhaps the subtle dilation of his pupils gives him away, perhaps he ought to be more guarded, perhaps he wants to be seen.

If I remember correctly baron had two siblings (one fem leaning / female if I remember correctly) and a second sibling (I think more masculine leaning? Not sure tho) and I can't remember their names pls help.
C.C (sometimes brother) and Verona (sometimes sister)- The trio has literal hundreds of siblings (cause papa is a whore), but they are the closest with each other. C.C is an incubus who's living that rich valley girl life and doubles as a d.j, Verona is a sleep paralysis demon who's a totally geek over the human world, but rarely visits - mostly because looking at her face would cause humans to become paralyzed. Baron is strictly he/him, but both Verona and C.C present as fem/masc whenever they feel like it

ONDE: Praia.

Indeed , hardly any of the man’s lines were making much of an impression on the woman ( much less a pleasant one that may level the field in his waning favor ) . A pity , that , he is … H a n d s o m e , if it were not for his thoughtless mouth. Still , as Verona regards him with her palpably cold indifference , she cannot help but think : this is some luck , isn’t it ? i’ve found someone who doesn’t know – or doesn’t really care – who i am— This might prove to be INTERESTING after all. And she is the sort to take r i s k s in her ventures … So , what would it hurt , really , to entertain him for a bit ? Yes , she decides , she is OWED a little spot of fun for all the necessary and tireless w o r k she does ! This man might well be j u s t what she’s been looking for ( which is likely to be bad news for him ) !
❝ Mhm , ❞ Huffs a disbelieving chuff through her nose , adjusting her buttoned silk sleeve-cuffs as she considers his offer. ❝ And I am quite SURE you don’t use that line on every woman you see , right ? ❞ Scathing remark , direct and playful , painted lips pulled into a cheeky ( if not knowing ) smile ; seems she’s played THIS GAME many a time afore and doesn’t intend to spend it screwing around. The blonde lifts a shoulder , shakes her head , as if that fact hardly matters to her. Clawed hands slip into the pockets of neatly-pressed slacks , there’s a s w a g g e r in her gait as she narrows the distance ‘tween them , stepping c l o s e r to him , ❝ I hope you make it worth my while , at least , ❞ She’s agreeing to his proposition— ❝ I do HATE to be disappointed or left … ❞ Silver gaze ogles over his person , much like one would appraise a fine figure for purchase , ❝ … WANTING . ❞ Is that a threat or a flirtation ? Judging by the tone , it’s likely to be taken as b o t h .

@loyalbones asked : 👫 // for all the ships we have!!!
PROMPTED.
Iarla + Kaen :
Iarla is one of the few people Kaen has felt SAFE with ; I mean , genuinely , safe. The type of safe where you know nothing bad can come after you , where you know the other person won’t think any worse of you no matter how bad things get. Kaen has been able to show Iarla the absolute WORST of themself ( the real low-lows ) , but the fae still sticks by them. That sort of trust – that sort of love – is irreplaceable.
I don’t think anyone said ‘I love you’ first. I think they both blurted it out and said it at once so it came out as a mash-up of babbling and fumbled apologies alongside the whole ‘no- no- you can go first- wait , oh shit , do you mean it ?’ You know. Like real idiots. I wager there was lots of crying involved , too.
The heart-flower Iarla gave them has a place of reverence ( as reverent as it can get at least ) settled in the kitchen window ; the place they pass by everyday without fail and can see all the time when they cook or clean or try to get crunch-time studying done at the table. Kaen didn’t have to , but they transmuted an ornate vase to put it in ; a delicate glass-like creation of sprawling rainbow splinters and fractals that contrasts with the bright hue of the bloom ( something to represent the both of them together ) .
Iarla , noticing Kaen always tends to linger with his scarf , has given them one of their own! It’s very similar , if not for a different color palette in the threads. However , he made sure it smells just like him for peak comfort-value. They wear it ALL THE TIME , even in the middle of June.
Cassidy + Kaen :
Cassidy is more than aware the faun sings for a living ( knows well of their ambitions for true stardom ) . But it was purely Kaen’s idea to give him private songs. . . To give him private DANCES .
Sometimes when Kaen is lonely back in their apartment , they’ll call Cassidy. Just to hear him. Even if it’s just sleepy little mumbles on his part , it’s still enough to help them relax again.
Likewise , over time as Cass realized he was more attached to the faun than he bargained for , Kaen became a little dose of sun and wilderness ; it reminded him of a simpler , better place , maybe. If he gets stressed , and they’re around , he’ll ask them to come to him and keep nearby. No feeding necessary , it’s just for company ( or to sit on his lap while he works for the sake of being near ) .
Cassidy has a VERY FAINT burn mark towards the right side of his chest , a rather dull imprint in the shape of a searing hand dragging slightly downwards over chilled skin. A reminder of times when things got a little too HOT for comfort. Kaen , every time they see it , continues to apologize for it even though they’ve already been forgiven.
Dahlia + Kaen :
Has Kaen slept with Dahlia ? You’d be hard-pressed to figure it out , neither of them seem inclined to confess to it. Shared glances , absconding away to other unoccupied rooms , SEVERAL LOUD NOISES— No , I don’t think it happened. I think Dahlia was just hungry ( and they often seem hungry when the faun comes around ) .
Kaen doesn’t need the venom to feel pleasure from Dahlia’s bites , the pain naturally gives them a sense of it. They’ve learned that the vampire l i k e s hearing them moan and hum when a feeding happens , and they’re more than happy to oblige , uncaring who happens to overhear. The venom , however , does indeed make it WORSE ( you know what this means ) .
Kaen wanted to bite Dahlia back to “assert dominance”. . . It didn’t go as planned considering Dahlia very much retaliated ( that didn’t stop Kaen from doing it several consecutive times ) .
Kaen REALLY enjoys playing up the “hunting” game with Dahlia , most especially when they seem eager to feed. They made the mistake o n c e of keeping too loose a hold on the faun and now they consider it their go-ahead to do this all the time. Although typically outmatched , Kaen is invested ( as well as Dahlia ) , always tending to be riled up by the time they’re found , boldly playing the ‘please , don’t hurt me!’ card when Dahlia SMELLS the opposite of fear on their skin.
Mu + Kaen :
It took some patience and a little encouragement , but Kaen eventually came around to Mu and their guardianship ( after all , where else were they gonna go ? ) . I reckon they opened up more at first to his familiar which no doubt made him smile as he observed quietly from afar.
Once Kaen was comfortable enough with Mu , they accompanied him EVERYWHERE , even asking if they could do more for him ( not that it seemed he needed much help , but they wanted to repay his kindness somehow ) . When he said they didn’t have to do anything of the sort , they STILL went ahead and ransacked the kitchen in the wee hours of the morning , making him breakfast. That , then , became their routine. Early wake-up. Homemade breakfast from your doting ward.
Kaen has definitely climbed into Mu’s bed whenever they had a bad night. Which has increasingly become less frequent the longer they stay with him , so that’s PROGRESS !
Kaen has also referred to Mu as their father and I’m not going to stand here and let you tell me he’s tried to correct them after learning what an awful dad Cernunnos turned out to be.

Some more thoughts from yesterdays show:
Again, to preface I’m not a theatre aficionado. I’ve been to a few West End productions here and there and my knowledge of Romeo and Juliet is basically from back in Year 8 studying the text and watching R+J, so please do forgive me if I’m a bit uncouth with my opinions.
The set-up
It is very very minimalist. In terms of the set, it’s just the empty stage that they use and the metal grid you see below doubling up as a projector screen which they bring back and forth throughout the show. That Verona sign is literally only seen for like 1 minute and then removed for the rest of the play.
They used the camera operators quite often to show:
(a) whatever was going on outside the stage - e.g. when Romeo / Juliet make their initial entrances, they’re followed down some corridors and steps leading on to the stage; when Romeo (standing on the stage) first sees Juliet, she’s actually in the theatre foyer at the Capulet ball which we see play out on the big screen, as do Tybalt seeing Romeo and airing his grievances with Papa Capulet; Romeo on the roof scene;
(b) close ups of Juliet mainly providing juxtaposition to whatever scene was happening in the forefront - e.g. the Tybalt/Mercutio duel scene is intercut with dialogue from Juliet. They have the boys (Tybalt, Romeo, Benvolio and Mercutio) standing in front of the screen which is in the position as in the picture all on their mic stands whilst Juliet is behind the the projector screen with the camera operator;
(c) when the cast were more towards the middle or back of the stage - e.g. the morning after the wedding scene focuses on Juliet and Romeo laying down with heads together but feet pointing opposite directions.
There were literally no props at all in this play (unless you count Romeo’s cigarettes and the fake blood), and no costume changes, apart from Tom but all he does is just take his hoodie off to show the tank top.
The cast use a mix of mics taped to their cheeks and the mic stands throughout the performance. There didn’t seem to be (or not obvious to me) a reasoning behind when they would use the mic stands and when not.
The pre-show and interval music was really good. I don’t think I picked up on any music actually being played during the play, if they did, it was very subtle as compared to the big bass/thrum of the pre-show music.
The performance
The play starts off with the duel between Benvolio and Tybalt. The dialogue itself is performed using the mic stands but in very hushed tones. This seemed to be a bit of a running theme where when you expected big spectacle fights, it was almost told in retrospect with whispered tones. There was some creative use of the spotlights whenever any characters were in front of the Prince akin to an interrogation scene.
Romeo is introduced via the camera shot walking behind him from the hallways onto the stage, where he ends up breaking down over Rosalin. Make no mistake, Romeo is just pathetic, and Tom has him blubbering and depressed sat curled up into himself at the front of the stage. These early scenes he really lent himself into a more traditional thespian actor. You start to see a bit more personality and less Shakespearean once Romeo and Juliet meet at the ball/after the ball.
There’s a good few comedic scenes which really lighten up the play, and brings these characters to life. Personal highlights was Romeo screaming at the top of his lungs when telling Friar he was in love with Juliet, Romeo’s little 🕺 (Juliet and Nurse also have a lil dancey dance). The Nurse character really was a stand out for me (Freema Ageyman is a babe), she was really funny and witty, and pretty sure there was a bit of a background romance being hinted between her and Juliet’s dad.
Loved the diversity in the cast from Caribbean Papa Capulet, roadman Mercutio and Benvolio, and Paris was such a ‘nothing-between-the-ears’ vibe.
Romeo
He was pathetic, he was depressed, he was in lust love, he was angry, he yearned, he begged, he cried, he danced, he laughed, and ultimately he died. There was definitely a lot of scope in what Tom brought to Romeo.
Tom’s stand out scene for me was the banishment scene, the visceral anger of Romeo is palpable, and you really feel it. Gone is the youth and here is a man just angry at the entire world.
Juliet
They did really well to bring Juliet to life in such a believable way. Other adaptations I’ve seen have painted Juliet as this innocent child who almost flutters in and out. Francesca was fantastic in portraying a Juliet who knows who she is, knows what she wants.
We’re cringing alongside her when Paris tried to sidle up to her at the ball, laughing along with her at the sisterly relationship she has with Nurse (even though Nurse makes such a big deal of her breastfeeding Juliet as a baby lmao).
She stands her ground, has an excellent scene with Papa Capulet where he’s telling her his plans of her to wed Paris but she’s adamant not to.
There’s also a gentleness to her and Francesca does so much with just her eyes. There’s a number of close ups of Juliet with the camera and you can just see the sorrow, anger or pain portrayed on her face. Really enjoyed her performance.
Romeo and Juliet
Back to Romeo being a bit pathetic, so their first meet is definitely a bit pathetic on Romeo’s behalf. He’s standing there shuffling on his feat, trying to speak, voice breaking, clearing his throat, and Juliet just looking on bemused.
They start talking and the horny gremlins then jump into kissing because the physical attraction is real lmao.
Tom and Francesca’s chemistry was so good. So much of their interaction relied on the way in which they looked at each other and even from the top of the theatre you could just see the yearning from them both.
Juliet’s balcony scene was a highlight. Again the yearning, flirting and desire, with Jamie having Francesca and Tom literally standing with their faces an inch apart all up in each others spaces for a good 10 mins, it was just electric.
What also was interesting for me was just how well the play does in bringing to life the sequence of events of the play:
Sunday: Depressed Romeo is moping over Rosalin. His boys take him to a party and he fall in lust love with Juliet.
Monday: Romeo and Juliet get married. Tybalt and Mercutio die.
Tuesday: Romeo is banished. Friar and Juliet hatch a plan to stave off the impending marriage to Paris (planned for Thursday).
Wednesday: No one tells Romeo of the plan. He drinks poison and dies, Juliet awakens, sees Romeo dead, also dies.
These were just two dumb kids in reality and it shows.
The Pros
The cast was superb.
The comedic elements.
The minimalism was good, you were sucked in by the performance so the lack of costumes, music, props etc weren’t that noticeable.
The Cons
Mama Montague was probably the least used character in the entire play. We barely saw much of her acting at all.
Juliet’s death was a bit underwhelming for me - she awakes from her slumber to see Romeo dead at her side and there’s no real reaction. She laments their fortunes and follows in death - it just seemed a bit jarring when the rest of the play seemed to be so lifelike to then revert to that bland death scene.
Pacing in the second half was a bit slow. There were one or two scenes with extended dialogue/monologues which I was kind of lost in. I think this was compounded by the literal lack of movement on the stage at those points.
They could think more about what parts should be projected for the screen. Tom and Francesca honestly did so well to really showcase their chemistry literally staring into each others eyes but very little of their interactions we actually got a close up look of.
Still have no idea what ‘stunt’ they were planning which led to the technical delays. None of what we saw in terms of the roof scene would really fall under the stunt banner, unless they were planning something else.

head slips from proud hoist, leaning to rest atop the other's shoulder. she doesn't mention anything of it. perhaps she needed this right in that moment, we may never know. (@valhyr)
'Reprieve' is not a word often found in their lives. Where her blonde head falls against the cradle of his shoulder, Sephiroth angles inward. Overlapping their limbs, creating small pockets of space, curving his body against hers. An interplay of silver and gold in the shadows of a terrible place.
Sometimes they find it: reprieve. Sometimes they need to.
