Idk why, but I have this S5 headcanon of Byler having some emotional climax, maybe in the UD, and then waking up in this lush and verdant paradise.

Like a version of the UD that's green with gold light streaming in from above the trees, where all the demo-creatures are just big flowers and the bats are like, butterflies or something. Instead of a nuclear winter- blue wasteland with mutated creatures, it's a peaceful place full of non-irradiated vegetation.

(yes, this is partially because of Byler blue + yellow and together they are the key, but also I just think it'd be so nice to see them off in their own little world for a minute where everything is safe and beautiful)

thinking about if mike cuts his hair after high school graduation for reasons but then immediately regrets it. will knows this, and so to encourage him to grow it back out, he starts a bet to see who can grow their hair out the longest (mostly just so mike doesn’t have to go through the awkward middle stage alone) but then will actually really likes the way his looks and ends up winning

Byler love languages!!

Mike LOVES to cuddle. Anytime they’re together, Mike has to be touching Will in some way. Will loves it too, he’s just less likely to initiate.

When it’s just them, Mike will have his legs laying over Will’s lap and his arms around Will’s neck. Or he’ll ask Will to lay on top of him and he’ll wrap his arms around the smaller boy’s torso and squeeze tightly. Sometimes too tightly.

“Mike,” Will would croak, “You’re going to kill me.”

And then Mike would immediately let go, apologize profusely, and start playing with Will’s hair instead.

But when their with the party, Mike will just make sure he’s sitting beside Will, and that their thighs are touching. He’ll sometimes even lay his head on Will’s shoulder for a few seconds, when no one is looking. NOT because he’s ashamed, but because he knew he’d get absolutely flamed if the party saw him being that cuddly with his boyfriend.

Mike loves to plan surprise dates. He’ll call Will and say he’s writing a new campaign and wants Will’s input…. but instead he had set up a sheet fort in the basement and has popcorn ready for a movie night.

Or Mike will bike over to Will’s house unexpectedly just because he’s missed Will.

WILL IS A GIFT GIVER 🗣

he LOVES painting and drawing and sketching things for mike.

sometimes Will will just start drawing, not having any intentions about what it will be or who he might give it too, and he somehow ends up giving it to Mike…. mostly because Mike asks for like ALL of Will’s drawings because Mike is (not so) secretly a fangirl for Will’s art.

Sometimes when Will is on his way to Mike’s house, he’ll stop by the video store and pick up a few movies for them to watch together.

when Will sees a pretty sunset or landscape, he’ll take a photo of it (with an old camera that was gifted to him by Jonathan) and recreate it on a canvas later to gift to Mike.

oh yea, Mike’s room and basement are FILLED with Will’s art if you couldn’t already tell. Will has offered to take some back home with him or tell Mike he can throw some of the sketches away and Mike is immediately offended.

“WHY would I do that??? This is your ART, Will. I love every single one of these!”

Will could probably be like, “Okay what is the drawing in the top right corner of your room?”

and Mike could tell you exactly what it is.

Will ALSO loves planning surprise dates. He’ll pack a bunch of random snacks and make a couple sandwiches, throw ‘em in a basket, lay a blanket down in the woods and invite Mike over without telling him about the picnic.

Eventually it became a competition on who can plan the most surprise dates and who does it better.

mike shuffles closer to will after seeing him in distress, hoping that it makes him feel better without will realising it. will notices regardless, but decides to shrug it off as a friendly gesture later, not wanting to get his hopes up.

Little headcannon that Mike always stays up a bit late unintentionally

So Mike has trained himself by waiting till Will falls asleep and the he falls asleep

Mike does this because he wants to make sure Will is safe and sound and gets to sleep when Will does start sleeping only then does Mike let himself fall asleep

He started doing this the first time they had a sleepover and has done it ever since

So after doing this for so long he has trained himself to stay up a little later than anyone else

Holy fuck I had an eye opening revelation about Mike. Mike is romance favorable demiromantic queer (personally think he's gay but to each their own). This works with him being worried about not having a girlfriend in the montagne thingy (which is also because of him being insecure and seeing a relationship as something that will impress others and give him validation + him being queer and starting to realize it). I personally don't think he ever had a crush on El (he definetely never was in love with her), but regardless we have the "I don't hate her, I barely know her" when talking about Max, so why would it be different for El. How could he love her when he barely knows her. The thing is, he still doesn't know her, neither does she know him, as people; and they don't have a deep bond. Meanwhile Mike and Will are childhood friends and have the deepest bond in the show, in this essay I will...

Ngl I would love to hear the couple phone conversations Mike did have with Will in between S3 and S4.

How awkward were they? How long? What did they talk about? Did Mike tell Will about Hellfire? Did they ever talk about that Christmas meetup that never transpired? Did Mike fill up the calls with meaningless small talk, or did he let the silences run long, so he could listen to the sound of Will breathing?

Hmm... I haven't seen many scary movies, but I feel like they would have a whole marathon. Mostly slashers, not really monster flicks (for obv reasons). Mike jumps at jump scares and Will teases him for it and Mike ends up spilling all the popcorn all over the floor like four times because Will keeps making the mistake of giving him the popcorn bowl.

Will would dress up as a werewolf one halloween and Mike would be a vampire. They took pics and in the 21st century, after Twilight has been released, the party will look back at the pictures and tease Mike and Will for dressing up as "Jacob and Edward" even though they're wearing the most stereotypical werewolf and vampire costumes that don't look anything like the actual characters. (Fun fact, I've never seen the movies)

isn’t it delicate by castlebyer on ao3, where mike shows up at will’s door in the early hours of the morning, in the rain, with questions. it’s my take on the closest thing to a fight they’re going to have about will’s painting, a week after the events of s4.

inspired by the idea that will and mike have another “intimate moment” but this time it’s a little later before it gets shattered.

everyone's always on guard in the upside down, and well, they need to be. so everyone takes turns guarding their makeshift post (its a tent they 'borrowed' from the wheelers' basement) and it's mike's turn to keep guard while the others sleep, he's a lousy guard really, so he should be exempt from the night job at all times, but that's just his opinion. he's almost falling asleep while trying to perfect his menacing face and fighting stance when will comes out of the tent and whispers, 'knock, knock?' and taps the side of the log he instinctively left space for will on. mike's fighting to keep his eyes open while will teases him for the same, and he's mumbling arguments that have absolutely no basis and resting his head on will's shoulder as will whisper-laughs, and mike looks up at will with a look in his eyes that is maybe a touch too adoring, as will's breath catches. 'why are you looking at me like that?' 'you're pretty' and will thinks mike is delirious, saying things he doesn't mean. he turns his head around to tell mike exactly that but finds him asleep, head lolled on will's shoulder. and maybe will can keep this for once. maybe he can afford to dream and hope and cherish this peaceful moment in his heart even if it's one-sided.
