I have been going over the seasons looking for all the evidence of the whole epic primary color theory connected to El, Mike and Will. And ngl this moment right here had me spiralling.

Sorry for the late response, Tumblr killed my previous answer but I'll try again now... Hoping this doesn't happen a second time 🥲

It's just a theory but I think she's being associated with red especially in season 3 with this:

But I also think the colours all have more of a abstract meaning than a direct one of "El is red, Mike is blue, Will is yellow"...

This is not ALWAYS valid, sometimes the actor just looks good in those colours lmao, but in general they use the colours to associate general ideas like for example:

I think Red in stranger things is associated with having trauma to face, Jancy has trauma in common for the text of the show and they have been together under the red light, Vecna's mind is red because his mind has been broken down by violence and trauma and he has a dangerous mentality, El is immersed in red because she's experiencing that traumatic event... The mindflayer and the storm are all about traumatic experiences etc

Blue is often about sadness and depression, that's why the upside down is blue toned and they are all in blue light when the mood is supposed to be sad

I think yellow might be about resilience, when you want to keep fighting the scary thoughts in your head

There is also the warm light = hope for the future, of overcoming the difficulties you encounter

I also think El at the end of the season is in white because it's meant to be foreshadowing of her becoming her own person and being "a white canvas" and she has pink details because pink is her real colour (S1 pink dress) after she survives all the trauma, at least I think that would be really cute and she looks great in pink!!!!

I also think she fits the purple 💜 and Will also has the purple associated with him because they are paralleled and it's all about being "wizards" in their own way, being wise/spiritual etc

I also had this idea that this scene was about the love triangle symbolically because we have Steve folding and putting away a red t-shirt while watching the only other queer couple in the show, when he has on him a blue, yellow and white towel - like El is leaving the red to become the white, and obviously the love triangle is still on but in the middle is Will (yellow) "dividing" Mike and El

Now this is all just a theory and it can be just random coincidence, but then we have a shot of Steve watching rvickie and smiling and the white is not in frame anymore, it could add to the foreshadowing of byler endgame if this was intentional !

What makes me think this is possible is also the fact that M. Night Shyamalan in his movies uses colour to give more meaning to them, and the Duffers basically owe their career to him so they could have decided to do the same

has anyone noticed how el and max both always wore long sleeved shirts, jackets, or multiple layers in s1 and s2 but wore short sleeves and tank tops in s3? the only season that they had someone else who saw the real them and when they became friends.

and the colors being vibrant in the only season they're together...

and then in s4, they're back to wearing long sleeves, jackets, and multiple layers. they're even back to wearing dark neutral colors like before.

el wearing a majority of blue but not wearing it when she reunites with max, when she finds the bottle her and max played the spying game with, during mike's monologue, and at the end (signifying she's not tied to mike anymore).

it's interesting how there's only small bits of color in el's outfits and max's only colorful outfit is the 'dear billy' one (and that was obviously intentional as it's the episode where she finds she's not alone and realizes her friends are there for her) which is a reference to s3 max, max finding herself again.

(elmax scenes in s4. notice how el isn't wearing any blue. she's wearing her white pants and white shirt with pink flowers on it, her new look. the all white with specks of pink, showing she's already becoming el who is independent, not el who is mike's girlfriend. and it's almost like the pink represents max, signifying that she's going to be el's main focus next season and el is going to be all about max instead of mike.)

(and no you can't say it's "because of the weather" "it's cold in hawkins" because literally other characters wear short sleeved shirts/tank tops so?)

I feel like the SECOND Finn Wolfhard said this anyone who has spent any time watching stranger things before S4 should have known some shit was up.

Stranger Things has been winning awards since 2016 for its (admitted) romanticization of outcasts, nerdiness and nostalgia for things that might be considered childish by other creators or “mature” adults—

—and the boy who was central to that from LITERALLY MINUTE ONE of the show, where he was ring-leading a DnD campaign, had an actor saying his character is trying to act normal, a concept we’ve already unpacked as negative multiple times before? ☠️ That’s the clearest setup for something not going as it appears to be on the surface in his arc I’ve ever seen in my gd life.

“That I love you to his girlfriend is the solution to his narrative in this show” and in the canon he’s already saying shit like “i worry too much about her” and “one day she’s gonna realize she doesn’t need me” while ignoring his girlfriend at the very end of the season to latch like a barnacle to his “it’s not the same without you” best friend…be so fucking serious lmaooo

Idk why, but I have this S5 headcanon of Byler having some emotional climax, maybe in the UD, and then waking up in this lush and verdant paradise.

Like a version of the UD that's green with gold light streaming in from above the trees, where all the demo-creatures are just big flowers and the bats are like, butterflies or something. Instead of a nuclear winter- blue wasteland with mutated creatures, it's a peaceful place full of non-irradiated vegetation.

(yes, this is partially because of Byler blue + yellow and together they are the key, but also I just think it'd be so nice to see them off in their own little world for a minute where everything is safe and beautiful)

Mounted Deer Symbolism: Ties to Memories?

I’ve been thinking about this shot lately—

—and have pondered on the mounted deer head behind Will.

First we have Mike and Will standing side by side, perfectly in line with a window behind each of their heads. Mike’s window is illuminated by bright yellow sunlight, while through Will’s we see greenery. Mike’s jacket arrow is, of course, pointing toward Will. Will is wearing blue and yellow in his plaid shirt, while Mike is not. The combined colors are on Will’s side, shown through his window. Mike’s isn’t green but it’s shining with yellow sun, the additional color he needs. His heart points toward the combined colors—toward Will and himself.

But there’s that mounted deer head behind Will, unlit and similarly colored to the walls but not hidden. You could say it’s a symbol of a successful hunt, a trophy. It makes sense in knowing Vecna wants Will. He’s valuable to him, perhaps a prize to be taken in the grand scheme of things regarding his plans for the world and what Will could do for those plans. This could be a symbol of Vecna’s interference with Will and Mike’s relationship/bond. Just like the reoccurring JAWS poster appearing behind Mike during his heart-to-hearts with Will, a motif for Vecna’s spying and targeting Mike (for his bond with Will and overall interference), the mounted deer may be looming behind Will in this shot as a reminder that Vecna has a target on Will—like he always has. Only, as of now, it’s to be in possession of Will rather than to be rid of him (in contrast of the way Vecna wants to be rid of Mike).

So there’s Will and Mike, their associated colors mingling and pointing toward togetherness, but Vecna is there and wants Mike separated from his sought-after ‘prize.’

However, there is another possible interpretation to add on to this. Many hunters view their taxidermic mounts as a symbol of preserved memories. For hunters, there is a story from the hunt and catch and whoever they may have been with. Therefore, typically, a sentimental object for reminiscing.

If we link this to Will and Vecna, this would be relevant to birthdaygate/ Vecna stealing parts of Will from his loved ones’ memories. The deer mount itself in-shot is not only behind Will but it’s face is also partially peeking into Will’s window, over the window’s yellow top curtain/valance. Furthermore, pointed directly at Will’s head! Vecna wants and needs Will. He doesn’t have him entirely in his clutches, but Vecna may already have parts of Will preserved and metaphorically mounted. This all applies to Vecna’s ever-persisting interference in Mike and Will’s bond as well, being as the deer is also peeking into the start of one of their heart-to-hearts.

UPDATE: @googoogagaeyes (thank you thank you!!) provided a GREAT reminder from s3. This same mounted deer head appears behind Will—directly behind and above Will—right after Mike declares he loves El and can’t lose her again. During a season Will feels so left behind/forgotten.
