You got me into Detective Grimoire and Tangle Tower and now we're getting The Mermaid's Tongue!! aaaaaaa!!! When do you think we'll be getting it? I hope it'll be earlier half of 2024 because I'm so excited for it!!
aaaa it makes me really happy knowing people have gotten into detective grimoire through me, it's such a good series so i'm glad it's getting more eyes on it! i think it's really cool that a lot of the recent attention the game has gotten on tumblr seems to be a result of word of mouth / artists getting into the game, ( i actually deiced to play tt because someone i already followed kept sharing allie's hawkshaw au and that got me curious about the game. ) hopefully, the fandom will be even more active soon thanks to a new game coming out. i'd love to see that!
as to when i think it'll come out, i'm also hoping for an early 2024 release since i'm impatient and want to play it as soon as possible. still, there's a lot of work that goes into creating games and i obviously don't want them to rush it out so i'm willing to wait however long it takes for them to polish the game. i'm thinking late spring / early summer at the earliest or early fall at the latest.

thats all for now, i'll be a bit busy this weekend so i can't promise that i'll be able to respond to asks/messages
Tumblr media
NSFW below the cut !
Tumblr media
"Unhand me right this insta-!"
"Shut. Up."
You had your Archon's wrist pinned to the wall; petite and feeble arms uselessly flailing as she made what could only be called a pathetic attempt at resistance. "Do you think you're getting away with this?! Just wait 'til this is over, you..!"
You roll your eyes. "Me? Do you even know my name?" You'd been such a loyal servant— obeying her every whim, working tirelessly because of the impossible demands she had set, and yet; she didn't even know who you were. Not once has Furina spared you a second thought. You were merely one of her servants. Hers to command and control as she pleased.
She let her mouth hang open for a second before closing it again, biting back a retort that she can't think of. "What's wrong, dear Archon? Aren't you going to fight back?"
Furina had always acted so high and mighty, but merely cornering her in a dusty, secluded warehouse had her feeling so weak and small— at least, in your presence. Wait, no— she's an Archon! What right did you have to treat her like this? You should be groveling at her feet for forgiveness if anything!
Though, as much as Furina wanted to... she couldn't deny how aroused she was getting. You scoff seeing her clench her thighs together. "Of course, this whole situation gets you wet. Fuckin' slut." Before she could make up a comeback, you let go of her wrists.
"Bend over and put your hands on the wall."
"I don't wanna!"
"I wasn't asking. Don't make me repeat myself." You ordered, using a tone full of authority that made Furina's heart skip a beat. She's been the one ordering and bossing people around for as long as she can remember, and she certainly doesn't mind, but she had no idea that giving someone else control could feel so... freeing.
Begrudgingly, she followed your orders; turning around and resting her palms on the dusty walls.
A second passed, nothing. Furina found a sort of thrill in the anticipation of what you'd do, but it was still nerve-wracking nonetheless. A few more seconds passed, and as Furina was about to speak, her words were cut off by a moan she didn't even realize she let out when you spanked her ass.
Her body threatens to lose its balance, knees faltering and hands slightly slipping. You rub the spot where you had hit in a mockingly soft way. "Aww, too much for my spoiled goddess?" You cooed into her ear; her frustration evident. Just then, an idea pops into your head. "Mm... I know, why don't we play a game?"
"Since you forgot my name," She looks at you with a confused expression from over her shoulders; heterochromatic eyes already glossy and wet with tears that threaten to spill onto her smooth skin. "I'll give you a name, instead." The game sounded simple enough, but the sadistic smirk you had on your face spoke volumes.
"From now on, I want you to refer to yourself as my personal cocksleeve. Not the Hydro Archon. Not Furina. When you're in my presence, you don't serve any other purpose but to take my cock. Got it?"
The Archon, the respected and feared Archon of Fontaine, meekly and hesitantly nods; so weak suddenly. Her obedience, though unexpected, pleased you— unlike her silence. What happened to the loud, irritating voice she used as she bossed and ordered you around? Where did all that strength go?
Slap.
Furina yelped. "I asked you a question." You're sure that her body would have tumbled over if you weren't holding her ass up. "I-I uh," Embarrassment filled her as she stuttered. Slap. "Yes..!" You snickered at her whiny tone, which you're sure wasn't on purpose.
You pulled her shorts down, a string of her slick connecting her cunt to her now ruined panties. Fuck. "Are you really getting wet from this?" You mock. Your finger ghosts over her entrance, and you can feel it throb and flutter around nothing.
"No, I'm not..! Do you really think that-"
Slap.
"I didn't give you permission to speak." The second you take a step back, it feels as if the weight of the world was lifted off of Furina's shoulders. "Tell you what, since I'm feeling generous..." This time, you slap her cunt, making her whine from the mix of pain and pleasure.
"I'll give you three seconds. If you run away, you can throw me in a jail cell or do whatever you want to me. But if you don't," Her ass is an angry red from the sheer force of your slaps, and you take it upon yourself to rub it in teasing circles before slapping it once again. "I'll humiliate and fuck you until you're a good-for-nothing slut."
"Three." You stay completely still, arms crossed as your figure loomed over the other woman. "Two." Furina stays unmoving, and you can see her cunt glisten with arousal. "One."
As she looked back over her shoulders, her stomach churned with both excitement and nervousness once she saw the sadistic smirk on your lips. "Fuckin' brat. You're fucking disgusting." Although your words sounded like you were insulting her, you couldn't be more proud to have the Hydro Archon bending herself over for you, wet pussy on display— all for a servant she never even gave a second glance at.
No matter how much Furina wanted to deny it; fight back... she was incredibly desperate and horny— and even if she didn't want you to know that, her body told you all about it. The weight and consequences of her decisions don't hit her— at least, not until she feels your thick cock, hard and as rigid as stone from her doing, resting on her back.
Just an hour ago, she was going on about her day as usual. Under no circumstances would she imagine that she'd be getting her ass pounded by you in a dirty storage room, praying to whatever other gods existed out there that you wouldn't get caught.
"Shiit..." The death grip you have on her waist doesn't relent, still as strong as it was before your first orgasm. How many times has Furina cum? None. It doesn't matter. She'll take any scrap of pleasure she can get at this point— she just wants to be filled. "So tight... just for me." You can feel her balance faltering as you slap her ass again.
And you don't even fulfill that. You're completely selfish; the only reason you chose to fuck her ass was solely because while it was tighter, she receives little to no pleasure. Plus, not many people can say that they've fucked an Archon in the ass. You wanted her to learn that she's merely a toy— and that it doesn't matter if she doesn't cum as long as you do.
At least, that was what you intended.
You chuckle darkly through heavy breaths, seeing Furina squirt and make a mess everywhere. "Seriously? You're cumming and squirting like a whore from getting your ass fucked? How pathetic can you get?"
Just then, a thought crosses your mind: how pathetic can she get?
Looking over at the pile of boxes next to you, you spot a marker on top of some documents that you hope were unimportant, seeing how some of Furina's juices got on them. You don't check to see if the marker is washable or permanent. You spread her legs even wider, and the last thing she hears is the cap getting removed before feeling a short, cool sensation on the back of her thighs.
"Every time you cum from me fucking your ass," Slap. "I'll write something on your body." Furina doesn't respond. She doesn't trust herself to run her mouth; remembering how that was the reason this encounter happened in the first place.
You lift her off your cock, making her whine at the loss of contact. She quickly realizes what you were trying to do as soon as you turn her to face the door. "N-no... please!" The Archon tries to make use of the rest of her feeble strength, kicking— though her actions tickled you more than it hurt.
"Oh, baby..." You cooed. Your tone almost reminded her of your meek, monosyllabic replies to her bossing you around— but now, there was an added sultriness and authority. "You can fight back all you want if that makes you feel better, but we both know you want this."
"Look. Even if you don't want to admit it, at least your body is honest." You rub on her still-sensitive clit, prolonging and coaxing out more of her orgasm. Tears start streaming down her face as soon as you bring her down on your cock, ass stretching to accommodate your size.
"Please, 'm sorry!... I'm... mhmff... Your personal cocksleeve is sorry! If we get caught..." Her words are cut off by a particularly hard thrust knocking the air out of her lungs. You smile at her words, but your pace doesn't relent. In fact, it gets even faster. "Oh? You know your name. I thought you were too dumb for even that." Besides, the way she clenched tighter once you positioned her in front of the door of the warehouse didn't go unnoticed.
She keeps on begging and apologizing through sobs and moans, feeling herself close to passing out with the sheer force of her incoming orgasm. With a loud sob, her body grows limp and her cum forms a puddle on the ground beneath you two.
"Tsk. All that talk, and she couldn't even last two rounds." You groan, laying her slack body on the floor. Her legs are trembling, and her thighs are a sticky mess. Her gaping hole is filled to the brim with your cum, just as it should be. There are numerous writings on her previously sacred body; namely words such as 'slut' and 'whore.'
With a few jerks of your cock, warm ropes of your cum shoot out and cover the woman beneath you. You zip up your pants, leaving her both physically and sexually ruined for the next person who would be unfortunate enough to find her.

could Anthy have walked out of Ohtori from episode one?
essay under the cut.
my basic answer to this question is no, but there's a lot of complexity behind that no.
when Utena first encounters Anthy, she immediately thinks there's something wrong with her and tries to talk her out of the whole "Rose Bride" business. while Utena makes several crucial mistakes during this early stage of their relationship, her instinct isn't necessarily wrong. if you met someone who said their inherent position in life was to be a slave to the will of others, wouldn't you have some concerns?
by episode 23, Utena has begun to understand Anthy better, to feel the magnitude of her plight.
Tumblr media
such moments have long since led me to the conclusion that Anthy couldn't leave Ohtori until the final episode. however, that doesn't mean that I knew what "not being able to leave" truly implied. here's the thoughts I've come up with.
in life, we all have times when we know what we should do to improve our circumstances, but we find that we simply cannot do it. the barrier to "not being able to do something" is not physical, not easily explainable. I'll give an example from my life. I spent a couple years as an alcoholic. obviously, there was a very simple solution to this problem: stop drinking. but I just couldn't do it. my life was pretty bad at the time, but I've gotten through other bad times without guzzling alcohol. during the course of my addiction, it looked like I wasn't making any progress. then one day I just stopped. people say you're an alcoholic for life, but I don't believe that. I know I'm done; it's over.
I've started to take Anthy's character as, in part, a grand metaphor for being in such a position. a simple action, one that you're physically capable of, would solve everything. but you can't do it. until one day you can.
that's not the whole answer to the Anthy question, of course. the show has a system, a social landscape, which has to be taken into account. there's the swords of hate, there's Akio. Anthy is truly oppressed, and so, even though she eventually reveals that she's capable of walking out, to give such an explanation is facile. I gave an example of a situation where I knew what I needed to do to get my life together; for Anthy, it's more of a case where she cannot even believe that her life could change. either leaving Ohtori doesn't occur to her, or she thinks it's impossible.
taking a more thematic approach, Anthy is a representation of the suppression of women. she's in an impossible situation; she constantly denies her own agency; she has been so badly hurt that she is afraid to be herself in any capacity. so the question of "could Anthy just have left Ohtori from the start?" could be rephrased as "can women just shake off their socialization?" Utena, who attempts to do just that, can't escape from it in the end either.
but the reason RGU is such a beloved story is because it is about liberation from gendered socialization, as well as other mental prisons. with this in mind, I think Anthy not being able to leave at the start was necessary for the narrative. it can't be easy for her to leave, or there's no story, and it won't feel real.
the process of liberation isn't easy either, or necessarily explicable. the show centers on the dueling game, a system which treats Anthy as an object, which encourages conflict and possession. the characters always seem to fail at their objectives. they never resolve their complexes--they only spend them out. Utena wins and wins, and although she is loving, she is not prying Anthy out of her coffin. Ikuhara once described the final arc as being full of stories that are wrong. there doesn't appear to be any light at the end of the tunnel.
Tumblr media
right when you think Utena and Anthy have achieved solidarity, that they both want the same thing, Anthy reveals another of her faces, stabbing Utena in the back and acquiescing to her fate yet again. it's only then, after every single option has been eliminated, that the revolution can occur. strangely, the power of the final episode comes from the "empty movement" of the previous 38. all along, it looked like no progress was being made. Miki and Kozue break apart almost as soon as they've reached an understanding. Touga challenges Utena to another duel, despite knowing that that's what Akio wants. Nanami won't let go of the spotlight she so craves. Juri can do nothing but surrender. and yet.. and yet.
a lot of fans view Ohtori as a bad place, an evil place. certainly, evil happens there. Akio is at the helm, an embodiment of the sick childishness of an adult who refuses to grow up. but I don't know if Ohtori is evil. it provides the setting for the process of liberation to occur. staying there is the problem. but perhaps for Anthy, and for the other characters, Ohtori served as the shell--a thing of protection--which allowed them to reach adulthood and emerge into the world. the dueling game was all a grand play which gave them an outlet for their issues, a testing ground to be left behind when they were ready. through failure, they found out that what they really wanted was something beyond their imagination. they struggled and fought with one another, only to find out that underneath at all, there was love, unlooked for, rising from shared alienation.
Tumblr media
let's put it one more way: Anthy could not leave Ohtori from the start, because she was still a child, no matter how jaded she was. she hid her child-self away long ago and then forgot it was there. when that child woke up, she found that she had a friend who wanted to go out into the real world with her. that was all she needed to become an adult, and so, at last, she left Ohtori for good, a whole person. in the words of Ikuhara:
The prince chose to sleep on, and the princess chose to wake up. At the top of that tall tower, the princess bid farewell to the prince. No - she wasn’t the princess any longer. She quit being “a person (thing) ruled by someone.” The victory bells rang, but there was no “tower (rule)” beyond them now. She’d learned where freedom lay. She crossed the threshold of that “Door of Revolution” which had always been closed for her before, and began walking. The “girls’ revolution” lay in the girl’s future.

Asks Comp 15/5
@manorinthewoods submitted: I believe I got confused about the omnipotence thing because I'd talked about it in some Discord server or other. My interpretation of the confusing usage of 'omnipotent' is that it specifically refers to any individual with the ability to exert unlimited power upon at least one individual. This allows for a system where one omnipotent can be more powerful than another, such as a Horrorterror being stronger than a First Guardian. [...] That's all I wanted to say.
The problem is that I don't really understand what it means to exert 'unlimited power' over someone.
Does it mean that you have full control over that person's actions? Or perhaps, the ability to change their nature in any way imaginable? Neither of these traits apply to First Guardians - their powers are centered around controlling space, not people.
Doc Scratch exerts power over Vriska, but his influence isn't absolute. If it was, she wouldn't have been able to use the cueball behind his back. Maybe I'm just misunderstanding what you mean by unlimited power.
Tumblr media
Probably! There are already a lot of human/troll interactions going on, so their relationships will inevitably evolve.
Tumblr media
I recommended a few webcomics last year. They're all decent theory-fodder, particularly Paranatural.
That said, none of them are as good as Homestuck at doing what Homestuck does. This is a very unique story, and I'm also not sure what, if anything, I'll liveblog after this is done. I'm certainly enjoying liveblogging, so there probably will be a next project - and I remain open to suggestions.
Tumblr media
Dang it. Well, I'm still showing up in search, so at least I'm not shadowbanned this time. Maybe a glitch on your end?
Tumblr media
I don't think you're wrong, exactly - but to be honest, there seems to be a bigger issue here than unreliable narration. I still have trouble understanding how any kismesissitude can be healthy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The prophecy is true!
Tumblr media
It's kind of cool that the kids' entire fortune is likely seeded from John's original stockpile. All that Grist we picked up in Act 2 actually went somewhere!
Tumblr media
Oh, nice! I feel like there'd be too many combinations to effectively crowdsource, though, unless the pool of alchemy ingredients was extremely small. If you really wanted to implement alchemy in a game, it'd probably have to be at least partially procedural.
Tumblr media
To be fair, I have to give credit to John on this one. Some of his funniest moments are when he's not trying to be a jokester.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I know! I probably wasn't clear enough about my question.
My question is whether the phrase 'the numerals of the blind prophets' is a reference all on its own. The phrase is a little out of left field, and the comic itself hasn't explained it.
Tumblr media
Pretty sure John's has already been explained - he needs to wake his Denizen and save his fireflies!
As for Jade's, it's indeed hard to say. I thought they'd all be about terraforming, but Dave's seems to break this pattern. Maybe his Quest isn't what it seems - or maybe I was just wrong, and a Quest can be just about anything.
I don't think I'll be able to guess Jade's, since it'll involve the features of a Land we haven't yet seen. All I can say for sure is that it'll have something to do with Space.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hell yes! This blog's hidden objective - to plug The Locked Tomb - is finally bearing fruit.
Tumblr media
It's easy for Aradia to do what she does, because she ''knows'' that she could never have done anything else. 'Understanding' this lets her be reckless.
Tumblr media
Once you can convince someone their choices don't matter, you can convince them to do whatever you want.
Tumblr media
I prefer Prospit's aesthetics, but Derse's vibes. The Horrorterrors are a better suspicious patron than Skaia - at least they'll help me break the game.
That said, the official quiz assigned me Prospit. Maybe I misunderstand the moons - but from where I'm currently sitting, Derse is the better choice.
Tumblr media
The question isn't whether Sburb would screw them over - it's how it would.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I like the idea that Sburb started with only Sprites, and slowly assimilated its victors into its later iterations.
Each Sburb species represents a video game trope, so I could see an aggressive species like the trolls as a border patrol. They're angry, aggressive NPCs who fly their warships around the Veil, making sure Players don't leave the session's boundaries. You're meant to avoid them, not fight them, and they're the bane of any Player who tries to get creative with the Furthest Ring.
Now, what kind of NPC would the humans be?
Tumblr media
I'm not a fan of jumpscare horror, but psychological horror can be very interesting indeed.
I didn't expect the comedy meme man to be that good at instilling a sense of dread - but I shouldn't have been surprised. Horror and comedy tread a very fine line.
Tumblr media
Thank you!!
Tumblr media
This frame in particular is pretty unsettling. Jack never usually shows this much emotion, and you have to wonder if the Ring has gone to his head a little.
Tumblr media
Anyway, if we're talking about aesthetics, my favorite area so far is the Battlefield. It's like a chessboard mixed with a Windows XP background, and it's gorgeous in Rise Up.
Tumblr media
Neither have been used in the comic, so I'm just going with lusi for convenience's sake!

Because I am feral for pre-game durge x Gortash cause villains in love that I don't actually have to roleplay is very fun for me to write about!
here are my headcanons for each of my Durges and their relationship with Gortash was.
Spoilers for the entirety of dark urge
Lilith x Gortash
Lilith has very low self esteem which stays a constant even when the game starts, yes this is because she sees herself as nothing but a monster. But oh boy Gortash came into the picture he started to compliment her and most likely told her "You know you aren't a monster they think you are" and she was so desperate to hear that from ANYONE that she ate it up
Like the whole plan to take over the sword coast and such was given to her by bhaal and she just figured "Okay I'll do it if it gets you off my back" and then Gortash most likely pitied her cause she didn't have anyone to talk to about stuff and just ended up opening up to Gortash and he probably felt bad that she was just kind of doing this so she could maybe have a normal life.
Lilith fully would sometimes use the excuse of "Gortash told me not to kill that person" so bhaal wouldn't punish her. It's not like bhaal is going to ruin the whole plan just cause Lilith is lying so she doesn't have to kill someone like that would be stupid.
After sometime of spending time together and just spending late nights talking and getting to know each other and several glasses of wine most likely or whatever other drinks. the two of them fuck and then Lilith confesses she feels quite deeply for the man, prompting Gortash to of course brush it off at first cause they're drunk.
After a while, though the two can no longer deny their feelings and start up a relationship they keep on the down low for the most part. Also keeping it on the down low in case things fall horribly apart either because of bhaal or some other reason they are both aware that this could go horribly wrong but it's something they both enjoy and don't want to let go of quite yet.
Of course it does go horribly wrong in a way neither could predict, and what makes it worse is Lilith was going to forsake the entire plan and just ask Gortash to marry her and run away. Now I like to imagine Orin hualed Lilith's body all the way to Gortash's office and then threw the corpse at him and Gortash heartbroken didn't know what to do so he tried his best to make it better and basically her corpse sent off to the colony in hopes that maybe one of the necromancers would raise her from the dead and well his wishes came true.
During this time that Lilith goes full feral he comes to visit her under the guise of just making sure things are going smoothly all the while just taking his time to mourn the loss of his lover. Now during this time I fully believe that Lilith had a note with a ring ready to give Gortash and he actually found it on Lilith's body and has kept it ever since.
Now onto the other pairing who is way more chill then Lilith is
Siliin(she/they) x Gortash
Siliin does have self-esteem issues but this is mainly whenever they get into the main game. Otherwise they just cant be bothered to look down on herself.
She concocted the plan by herself and started to put the plan into motion before realizing they needed help and then finding Gortash. Realizing the two of them work together well fully welcomed him into the fray soon after.
Siliin is more of a freak in actual weird fucked up ways then Lilith is and Siliin really isn't as disgusted by their urges as Lilith is. Like Siliin likes to indulge sometimes while Lilith will indulge but more out of habit then actually want to. Meanwhile Siliin they enjoy the fucked up shit, yeah you wanna eat this flesh off a corpse hell yeah brother they're all for it you go!
Now Siliin is not evil by any means, yeah she's fucked up in the brain but like she's not really going to go out of her way to be a bad person cause it just isn't what she feels like doing. Like besies the urges she has no real drive to do evil things.
Now Siliin also doesn't have a drive to really do good things either and therefore that's kind of why they work as a the dark urge cause they just do whatever is easiest and submitting to the urges is easier then fighting of course once they get into the game they actually do put in a little more effort.
Most of their lack comes from the fact they are constantly depressed about their life, but Gortash comes into the fray and suddenly they actually feel like they have a reason to keep on going. Like they don't know what it is about this guy that gives them the energy to keep going but she really likes it.
Like Siliin enjoys their late night talks and meetings and wine nights together. Eventually Siliin realizes that she has fallen for the guy, they don't really mind of course they just keep it to themselves for a while.
Until one day they are talking to someone and she gets asked what she thinks of Gortash and Siliin just gets really excited actually about getting to gush over her favorite person. Gortash overhears and realizes that Siliin might like him a little to much.
They two have a talk and Siliin admits to feelings right off the bat and Gortash accepts these feelings admitting he's been feeling the same and the two agree to start a courtship of sorts or as much of one as they can have.
They are having little dates and late-night walks together and sharing chaste kisses fairly wholesome stuff and then they go back to his home and they have some baller sex. Like full of passion and kisses and just all-around pretty good.
Then fast forward Siliin starts to just not care about the plan anymore and just wants to leave it all behind and run away with Gortash, now this time Siliin does end up telling Gortash the plan and he cant agree to it. They are to far in the plan for this to happen and this sends Siliin into a deeper depression than they already were making them an easy target for Orin.
Now Gortash doesn't visit Siliin like he did Lilith cause he cant bare to face her, cause he fully blames himself for the state Siliin has gotten in.

Quick Thoughts on Canto 5
Okay, just finished up Canto 5's latest stage and I've gotta' say this is probably gonna' be one of the better chapters if it keeps going the way it's going. On the tierlist I'd put it between the beginning of Sinclair's chapter and Gregor's in terms of introductions. Now whether this is going to drag as much as Yi Sang's chapter in terms of battles is it something yet known.
Anyway, wanted to condense my thoughts real quick before moving onto other things.
Gameplay
Boy, the eventually Negative Coin Ishmael ID is gonna' kick ass in this chapter whenever they reveal it.
No seriously, the fact that Ish has this crippling of a debuff makes me fume almost as much as Sinclair's story debuff in his chapter. Starting at -35 sanity when all of Ishmael's current IDs are positive coin IDs is just hell on earth. I usually make it a rule to have the starring sinner in all their chapter stages and be in their base ID for thematic effect, but this debuff made me 180 on that rule and at least give myself the ability to pick her IDs. Extra attack power is useless on a character who needs to be at high sanity to function, and Ish has no low sanity IDs yet, so this is either a massive tease to the eventually 3-star ID that'll put Nclair to shame, or just an asshole move by the game developers.
On that note,
Allen X, Before Canto 5 Dropped: "Oh boy, a new Canto, hopefully they'll change up the weakness to finally kill the blunt meta an-" *pirates are weak to blunt*
... ... ...
Seriously, this actually pissed me off a little until the mermaids were weak to Pride, Wrath, and Pierce... just in time for me to spend all my resources buff my blunt IDs to level 40. At least we'll have some time until the next portion of the chapter opens up to start grinding materials for the pierce IDs we got since it seems Mermaids are gonna' be the next big enemy this time around. Still, it's a bit annoying to have a new chapter with the same tired meta IDs putting in the work, at least in terms of damage type.
Also, these fights take a little longer than the other chapters. Maybe that's because I haven't truly maxed out my teams yet, but I just barely got the EX conditions for 5-19, and I had to spam EGO to make that happen. Outis and Yi Sang were a godsend this time around.
Story
I'll save the majority of my thoughts for when I finish reading the full chapter, but so far I've been enjoying the story.
I think this does a better job at giving all the sinners some screentime than others. Already we've got some good development from Rodion, Meursault, Sinclair, Outis, Yi Sang who already had his chapter/spotlight, and even Dante of all people. This has been a real nice treat and gives me hope that more characters than Ishmael will come out of this with some new perspectives and peace of mind.
Speaking of, Ishmael's slow descent into madness is interesting to watch, and unlike most times this happens in other stories it feels like there's some purpose to Ish losing her grip on things aside from the need of story tension and angst. I'm surprised how little I'm annoyed by it all, since this type of arc tends to be really poorly written and only serves to make me hate the character. Maybe it's because characters like Outis and Rodion are actively annoyed and quietly reprimanding Ish respectively, maybe it's Dante actually stepping up as a manager and having some semblance of control over his employees in terms of authority and understanding them. Or maybe I'm just a bit of an Ishmael apologist and I'm willing to let Women's Wrongs™ happen when it's one of my favorite characters, who can really say.
I'm going to keep my deeper thoughts on the plot to myself since the story isn't finished yet, but in terms of my more basic thoughts I looking forward to things.

Life is short, they said, so live it to the fullest, enjoy every moment, never regret a thing, and end it full of happy memories.
How could it be that simple?
My life cycled, all that happiness, meant to be spread out over the course of my life, concentrated itself into short bursts. It was wonderous, to love something and everything so much that it hurt. Surely, this was that sort of magic I felt in fiction, or in those rare moments where I actually see - usually outside and when there's trees around.
It left. Happiness so strong and I gripped it as tight as I could, clung to it as it thinned and stretched and strained, before it was too much, and I let go.
My hands were raw, throbbing, (clutching happiness really does a number on your internal world), yet that pain didn't compare to the void. The nothingness, churning at the base of neck, sparking, sending ripples down my spine.
Before the numbness, the nothing that weighed so heavy on my head, which didn't work so well anymore.
It didn't make any sense, all the wonders were still there, everything I should be enjoying is still there, where's the happiness?
(Wasting time, wasting life, I'll never get this back again, what a waste, I should be doing something, I should be happy, happy, happy and life only goes downhill because when you're adult you have too many responsibilities to be happy so I needed to be happy now and I wasn't and that was so strange because children were supposed to be happy, happy, happy.)
And thus begins the journey to try and fix myself - because nothing with the outside world was wrong - and maybe if I'm right, if I'm like the happy ones, then it'll be like the stories, I'll give myself a happy ending.
Weird, it appears that other's happy endings involves being scheduled and productive and having achievements and waking up early and there's nothing about what to do when your brain isn't doing simple, simple things.
Weird, I wanted to play outside more, I wanted to bring my siblings and play forest games like we used to, I wanted to make fairy gardens and paint watercolor leaves and learn biology and write fanficition about it and watch anime and stay up very very late to watch the moon and find patchworks of mosses and clovers and take pictures of them, perhaps put captions along them, I wanted to make stickers and make a thousand pom-poms with googly eyes and give them to strangers and write poetry and be a witch and write an epic story and stare at the clouds for hours, doing absolutely nothing. THAT'S what I had trouble doing, that's what you're supposed to show me how to do, to make me happy all the time so I can do the things I love and never feel off ever again.
But I feel off and wrong, for so so long and it's... weird.
Because there's a weird world in my head, and a weird way it makes me see the world, especially since I've stopped trying to give myself a happy ending.
I've let myself, wander, not clinging to that happiness, and it's... quite freeing, actually, when I don't need to be happy to live my life.

"Dr. Klaus William Hendrix, log number 1. I've started another brand new experiment to test if it's truly possible to bring someone back to life. You know, just in case if something happens to my wife; then I'll have my instructions ready so it'll be quicker than if I had to experiment when they're already gone. I don't know if my mental health could handle that...a-anyways, I've written down a list of ideas to experiment on later. One of my ideas is the classic Frankenstein "using the power of lightening to bring something back to life" thing. I've always wanted to test that one out! Another idea is seeing if I can turn an already dead corpse into a vampire by biting them...which is probably be awkward to explain, if it works. I have more notes, but this tape is already as long as it is. I'll let you know which idea I end up using, even if it's one I haven't mentioned in this tape...end recording."
"Dr. Klaus William Hendrix, log number 2. I'm dying to try out the Frankenstein idea, but I should first probably try the vampire idea just to get it out of the way, considering if it works then it'll just be a boring conclusion. Sure, it'll turn Amber into a vampire, but I know full-well that they'll enjoy it, so that isn't really a problem. Still, I wonder if there's another way that doesn't involve vampirism...end recording."
"Dr. Klaus William Hendrix, log number 3...y'know, I don't have to say my middle name when I record this logs, but I remember once that my wife said they loved hearing my full name and I unconsciously started doing it all the time, even if they wouldn't be able to hear it. But they'll hear this one, they like stealing my logs just to listen to my voice. Hi Amber, I love you. (pause) ...oh, right. I was making this log for my test. Results from the vampire idea are in and; good news, it works! Bad news; I had to dig up a random corpse from the cemetery and now there's a stranger, a newly turned vampire, lost and confused in my house...but that won't happen if it's Amber, since they'll be expecting to get turned. I still want to try out that Frankenstein idea...but first I should figure out what to do about this stranger...end recording."
"Dr. Klaus William Hendrix, log number 4. I had to take a pause on my work to 1; teach this newfound vampire how to use his magic then send him back to his family, and 2; I had to dig out yet another random corpse from the cemetery, and had to set everything up, and had to wait to do all of that until a thunderstorm was announced because I didn't want to have some random corpse waiting on my operating table for who-knows-how-long...but now, it's finally here and I'm almost ready. The thunderstorm is in an hour and I have everything set up. If this works, then I'll be able to bring them back to life if something happens, like if those monster hunters manage to kill them to get to me...which I hope doesn't happen...it's more than likely and I don't want to risk not having a plan. Sure, the vampire idea works, but at least I have a backup plan. I'll get back to you if it works! End recording."
"Something went wrong, very wrong. I don't know what happened or why, but my unfortunate test subject has started attacking me; acting like a zombie, but more intelligent than the brain dead corpse you'd watch on TV or shoot in video games. Everything's going wrong and I don't know how or why and I can't figure it out because they're wandering around my lab, looking for me. It's not like the movies where all the zombie does is groan and limp around; I mean, they are limping, but they're wandering around, calling for me and checking every possible hiding spot I could be in. Gods, I feel horrible; I didn't mean for this to happen, this is all my fault... (pause) I-I hear them, they're getting closer to finding me. Amber, I know you're listening to this; please be careful. I know you want to help, I know you want to look for me, but please...don't. I don't want you to get hurt, or worse. Please, just...be careful... (pause) Shit- they're getting closer. I love you, Amber. I-"
The tape cuts off with a long, drawn-out beep. Amber stands in front of the desk with their head down, feeling multiple different intense emotions at once. Worry, fear, sadness, and love for the man they were just listening to. The lab is a mess; tables knocked over, broken glass on the floor, burns and blood on the wall. In the corner, there's a hole in the wall, presumably where they took Klaus. Amber takes a deep breath, adjusts their bag filled with supplies, and they make their way into the hole, hoping to find their husband.

Hi again,
(Ngl, I feel kinda bad requesting more of my characters for your event, but it's so rare to see people write for ocs)
My other character is Kasai's older brother Kai, so I was wondering if you could write a 💛 with him and Floyd, Jade, and Azul. (From Kais perspective) after Azuls overblot.
They'd definitely get along since Kais dragon form is based on a sea orc, so they'd all just hang out, maybe have Kai help out around the Monstro Lounge.
A bit on Kai
Tumblr media
That's what he looks like. He's a god of water. he's extremely reserved, but he also gets very protective of his friends, just like his sister. He's extremely smart and has extremely powerful water magic. He has a very hard time reading people's emotions and is very gullible despite his intelligence. He also has a big fear of heights.
(I'm sorry if I forgot about any of the requirements, and I'm also sorry if it is the 20th when you get this cause for me it's still the 19th.)
{ Canon Characters Meet OCs Event! }
I agree that it's super rare for people to write for ocs, which is a shame in most cases. My apologies for the long wait, I've been a bit busy. It's way past the 20th, but it was in my inbox on the 19th, so it's all good!
A/N: I envision Kai acting a lot like an oc of mine and Freminet, so I'm kinda basing this off of them. Feel free to let me know if I got his personality wrong.
ೃ⁀➷ Just 💛
ೃ⁀➷ Included characters: Azul Ashengrotto, Jade Leech, Floyd Leech (used Jade's banner for simplicity's sake).
ೃ⁀➷ Perspective: Kai
TW: None
Tumblr media
"Kai, please take this to table seven." Jade appeared by Kai almost silently, which still unnerved him on occasion. "Alright." Kai replied, taking the tray of multicolored drinks and making his way to the designated table.
"Here's your order..." He told the occupants, setting the drinks on the table. One costumer gave his glass a sour look. "Hey, what's this crap? I wanted ice in this thing! And it's not even all the way full!" He demanded. Kai was surprised by the outburst but tried his best not to appear ruffled.
"I'm sorry, I'll get that fixed for you..." He said softly, moving to pick up the offending glass. The guy intercepted his hand, swatting it away. The other table members grinned rather cruelly.
"Hey, you know what? This isn't even the drink I ordered." One chimed in.
"And you didn't give me a straw, how am I supposed to drink this?" Another added. The group snickered. Kai felt himself getting overwhelmed and was eager to get away from the situation. Luckily, Jade swooped in and shooed him away.
"I'll deal with them, Kai. You can go back to the kitchens and help out there." He said smoothly with a smile. Kai nodded and hurried back to the relative safety of the kitchen.
. . .
"Oh, Jade, how did that... situation go?" Kai asked, wiping down a table. The lounge had closed and he and Jade were busying themselves with cleaning tables. Jade turned in his direction and his eyes held a mischievous glint.
"Oh, it turned out to be nothing. Their claims were seemingly false. I managed to convinced them that they had made a mistake and they agreed." He said, then his smile turned into a slight frown. "Though I did request that they apologize to you for causing you trouble. Since you asked about the situation, I think it's safe to assume that they didn't."
"No, they didn't." Kai responded, choosing not to point out that Jade had likely intimidated them rather than had a polite conversation with them. "Well, it's fine if you're not too bothered by it." Jade prompted.
"Oh, it's fine." Kai said, finishing his section of the tables.
Floyd suddenly burst through the swinging doors that led to the kitchen. "Kai~ Are you done yet? I'm bored!" He whined, flinging himself toward Kai and wrapping him in a bone-crushing hug. "Let's play a game!" He exclaimed, thankfully releasing Kai a moment later.
"Oh- um, alright... What game?" Kai said, rather reluctantly but not wanting to disappoint Floyd. He suddenly caught sight of Azul leaving his office and took the opportunity. "Hello, Azul. Do you need help with anything?" Kai asked, walking over.
Azul turned and looked at Kai, then put his finger on his chin to think. "I don't think so. Seeing as the lounge is all clean, you should be done for today." He said after a swift look around.
"Oh, oh! Kai~ we should go to the lake!" Floyd exclaimed, popping up behind him, Jade on his other side, nodding. Kai pondered this while Azul sighed. "I'll be in my office." He said, walking away. Jade smiled and replied "Alright."
"Come onnnn, let's get going!" Floyd said, grabbing Kai's arm and pulling him along toward the lounge's exit (nearly pulling Kai's arm out of his socket in the process).
. . .
"Yayyy, we're here!" Floyd yelled out and Kai heard Jade chuckling behind him. Thankfully Floyd had let go of Kai's arm as they left Octavinelle, so his shoulder still in its correct place, though it was still sore. Kai sat down, rubbing his shoulder and watching as Floyd dove into the lake.
"Is your arm alright? My brother has quite the grip." Jade sat down beside Kai.
"Oh- yeah, I'm okay," Kai responded, watching as Floyd's head (now in his merman form), resurfaced just shy of the shallow area. "JADEEE, KAIII, COME ONNNN!" He yelled to be able to be heard. Or maybe just for the sake of yelling. Kai couldn't tell. Jade gave his usual grin and stood. "Well, it appears Floyd is calling for us. Would you like to join us?"
"Oh, um, sure." Kai said, the pain in his shoulder gone, and he stood up. Jade got to his feet and started making his way over to the water. Kai followed, and they both walked over to the water's edge.
HAHAAA! I did it! >:D I think I have one more request to do until I begin the next event. That *should* only take a day or so, so be prepared for a brand-new event, coming soon!! (@doodler17 i hope i got Kai's personality right ^^')

brother crab’s 2023 seasonals in review: summer
surprisingly easy to rank season for me, so i'll get right to it
anime of the season + runner-up for summer goes to...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
undead girl murder farce and zom 100: zombie ni naru made ni shitai 100 no koto! nothing else even came close
i'm giving ugmf anime of the season because i personally vibed with it a lot (murder mysteries with a rakugo flair + arsene lupin trying to fuck the phantom of the opera in the background you really cannot go wrong) and also because zom100 has yet to release its last few episodes
zom100 is such a consistently solid show, though, that even without seeing the full cour i'm prepared to give it runner-up of the season. and it's honestly a strong contender for anime of the year. the first episode especially... i would rank it even higher than the first ep of oshi no ko tbh
lots of sequels this season as well!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
horimiya, bleach, jjk, and bsd. some new snv came out this season as well but since i binged all that at once it doesn't really feel like a sequel to me
anyway easily sequel of the season goes to bleach, largely because of nostalgia won't deny that but also because it's just that fucking good
horimiya however was also an immense delight! gonna miss these wacky kids :')
quickfire thoughts on everything else:
watashi no shiawase na kekkon is the shoujo of the year, there's been a lot of cute stuff lately but nothing comes close to watakon
vending machine isekai was fine and occasionally funny, but kinda shocked it got a sequel announced already. worldbuilding was definitely the most interesting part and i hope we see more of it in s2
dekiru n eko way kyou mo yuuutsu was absolutely perfect, very fun and cute and soothing
okashi na tensei had a promising premise which it failed to lean into, there was little to no BAKING in this BAKING anime jfc
lv1 maou to one room yuusha seemed like your run of the mill shitty ecchi but actually it's NONBINARY OLD MAN YAOI?! and was kinda good. dumb, but fun
ai no idenshi was... well it was episodic which i like, generally, but it really. was not consistent. some good pieces, some not so good. some interesting, some not so interesting. main failing is it really did not imo balance its 'main' plot with its mini-stories well at all
ayaka was fun! it doesn't really hold a candle to k project like at all but at least it was not as bad as praeter lmao
synduality noir (first cour) was alright. nothing to write home about but a decent enough mecha. as far as anime that are game ads go... i'd say it's okay. a little more interesting than takt op to me, though not as visually stunning. and not as compelling as god eater
hyakushou kizoku was a tv short adapting arakawa hiromu's autobiographical farming manga and it was such a delight lol, especially fun if you're a fan of fma or silver spoon. explains so much about ed tbh
hi no tori: eden no sora was a 4-ep ona that i quite liked overall... ending was just so-so to me i guess
dark gathering isn't quite over still but it's fine as a horror that's heavy on the gore (gorror? is that a thing) actually. probably better than fine, it's just not my genre. some of the stories are definitely more gripping than others, but yeah solid horror overall and really good cast (yandere hanakana what could be better)
helck is also still going but has been really solid, way more enjoyable than i'd imagined. it has an 80s feel to it that i love
and last but certainly not least shuumatsu no valkyrie ii part 2 gives us GYARU FUCKBOI BUDDHA once again. what could be better lmao
MOVING ON
op of the season goes to zom100's song of the dead by kana-boon! the song itself is a banger and the way the op changes from episode to episode makes it even better
HOWEVER this was not an easy choice lol bleach and even jjk both came in with strong contenders as well
ed of the season goes to heclk's statice by saji! it just. ough. right in the feels
youtube
youtube
this was not a very blorbo or ship heavy season for me but i have to just repeat ARSENE LUPIN. AND THE PHANTOM. OF THE OPERA. one day i will circle back to this lol

Songs 10/28/2023
Is it good to post? To etherize. To become myself for a lovely pixel mystery front end i know so little about. Before my computer gets completely full of crumb dust I wanna blog some songs that I liked this month, I'll be a writer.
PAL - Safety Corridor
youtube
I'll start with one of the tens of albums I've listened to that came out this year, since I'm really really into new music. This is egg punk from Ohio and they have a great limited set of inputs - pleasing timbre dead pan vocalist, scraggily guitar, and bendy melodies. They use the first two of those here with their constant base and spare drums. It is a pleasing mix and something about this frank dick sucking song creates a believable erotic, dry as most truth is. The whole EP is good, I hope they make more stuff.
Razor - Speed Merchants
youtube
More discovery shit on my part, thrash metal isn't something I've explored too much but this album (Evil Invaders) rocks. Listening to this song just short of 40 years on feels like it agglomerates many disparate long-haired doer activities: rocking, gaming, being a tight end, drinking 12 beers. I do to feel like a speed merchant:
"Speed Merchants live for pleasure, Speed Merchants live for pain They live for understanding and sparks to start the flame"
Sounds like bipedal existence. My pain comes from loss of pleasure. Blah blah blah. Musically this shit is x-games rocking. It has that nice hook break down and then its all button mashing guitar strumming over a blast beat w ride smashing thrown in. Then there is real shredding in the middle... and it comes back, fuck the high pitched guitar turnaround goes soooo hard. Good shit Canada, idk much about Razor again, I thought this was going to be some valuable-only-for the album cover music, and it ended up being true mind expansion muzik. Look at some other album covers. LEGENDS!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dynarec - Need The Teacher
youtube
Ok I looked up what dynarec means a couple weeks and it is something to do with running emulators and CPU usage on your comp. Could be totally wrong but I like that ok. Difficult to pick a song of this "User Input" album that's best, but this was one of my favorite. It has a nice detuning vibe and excellent cursed (not evil) toy box vibe, that talking synth melody that underlies the entire thing is a thing of distant beauty. Lovely! I listened to a lot of electro last month, and realized its a very strange genre often centered on elements I find have been done much much better in the development of hip-hop, techno, and other dance genres. But in this particular track there's idiosyncratic electro jamming!! Sweet.
2sdxrt3all - zack and cody
Ok I had to traverse forsaken urls to realize his name is phonetically dirtball, but I am a fried guy and thats why I'm still on soundcloud. This might not be the best example of dxrt3all, as there are songs where his adlibs almost argue with his main vocal track and show some of that beloved newness, but this beat! Oh loved that vibrato that comes in under the spooky high sine for the hook. The weight of "... he can't stop thinking about it" is intense, and admittedly, is a bit misleading of the manner dxrt talks about murder/robbery in most of his music. But he is a 17yr old ad lib master, and i recommend this song and then his discog (which I still need to explore). It's also cool he has a producer homie who he's almost exclusively linked with, there's still soul in the game! Hey I'm excited about a teenage SC head who isn't xavier (is he 20 yet?).
The Unlovables - I Want a Boy
youtube
Ok, seems like I'm bad at this shit, cause this is another consolation song from one of my most listened to albums of the past years. By that I mean there's a lot of good songs on this 2004 new york pop punk (power pop?) album. It is that pure candy muzik I fucking love, and I wonder if there's more like this to see. Still can't believe I missed that Everyone Asked About You show, but this song fucking rocks. I really want to cover it cause I think a version of this with 200+ bpm digital blast beats and overdriven synths instead of guitars would rock, the structure is so good. Unlovables have the best backing vocals, and all the musical cheese is liberated by the even cheesier lyrics. Perfect music, we should all get to feel immanence like this on a regular basis, sadly no one is as keen to soy as I am, and for that we will continue to burn. Hallie Bulleit is a really good vocalist.
Well let us hope that the world won't be completely fucked, and that it ends unnaturally instead of just being Joever. Americana should be perserved, global America needs to burn god damn. Hopefully I'll post more and that there will be initial and continued solutions in Gaza. Thanks

HEY, not sure if you get a lot of cherubs so maybe you can’t answer, but I HAVE a problem.
CHERUBS are generally either destructively or creatively inclined, and that tends to correlate strongly with our morality. IT’S also impossible to hide, because it seems to also correlate with whether or not we’re DERSE or PROSPIT dreamers.
I AM a destructively-inclined, DERSE dreamer.
MY other half is of course a creatively-inclined PROSPIT dreamer.
BUT despite our differences, we pulled though our first session together. I THINK because we didn’t know we would be playing forever.
NOW however, it’s our second session.
WE’RE teamed up with humans in this session, and they hate me. THEY think I’M EVIL, and that my other half is good, just because of the creative/destructive distinction…
I GUESS that a lot of stuff on the networks corroborates that, and my other half is going full-throttle on turning them against me. BUT I DON’T think I’M THAT bad, and I THINK if they would just hear me out, they’d realize that my other half is horrible and delusional, even if they have a saccharine veneer to them.
HOW do I get them to stop judging me, and get them to listen? THEY all have me blocked now, so I CAN’T just message them, and I THINK they’ll attack me if I JUST show up… MAYBE not since it would hurt my other half as well, but I’M BAD at keeping my cool, and I’VE NEVER had to interact with anyone besides my other half before, I FEEL like I’LL JUST incriminate myself if I TRY to talk to anyone in person. THE only reason I’M ABLE to send you this message is because with text, I CAN spend hours wording everything exactly right, and even then I WORRY that I’VE SAID something wrong, or not been convincing enough…
MY classpect this session, in case it’s relevant, is MAGE of RAGE.
I am going to be real with you chief, I've never heard of a "Cherub" before. I know there's Humans, Trolls, and I think birds or psionic dog things as valid player species, but never a Cherub. I'm not gonna write you off as some sort of prankster, because dismissing inquiries out of hand discourages further inquiries, it would be a crime to deprive the world of my advice, and it's possible I have some network issues that has kept this information hidden from me (in which case this must be correct as soon as possible), so I'll operate as though everything said here is true.
First thing's first, given how your "destructive inclination" seems to be an inborn part of you as part of your species' weird dualism thing, and people are judging you based off that, I think it's safe to say that everyone here (but you) is kind of racist? This isn't part of my advice, because running up and saying "hey guys stop being racist" to the guys that hate you will be the opposite of helpful, but I'm just pointing it out and earning positive reputation online by denouncing bigotry because it's bad!
Another unfortunate piece of news is that your classpect this session is fucking you over. Rage gets a bad rap among players and is subject to lots of misconceptions, because people think it's about anger and hate and stuff, and your coplayers will probably say "oh so you ARE going to destroy everything, if not because of your weird Cherub thing but because of your aspect". It's not that, just to clarify, Rage is about authority, control, and influencing events and moods from the outside (as opposed to Heart which influences nature from the inside). And worse yet, Mages are Cryptical classes who are not meant to be direct or forthcoming, they complexify the situation in passive manner. This means that coming forward and having an honest conversation will be actively penalized by the game.
I guess the first thing you could do is try finding out what specifically they've been saying about you. The references to "other half" seems to imply that you share the same body, which, I have no idea how that works and I'm pretty sure it breaks several fundamental aspects of the game, but if you can "switch over" while they're with someone, you at least have a few seconds to ask around. I know you kids with your internet think that if you can't use Pesterchum then you can't talk at all, but you can just ask in person (as you said, they probably will not attack) or leave a message or something. Most people feel inclined to respond in those situations, shunning is pretty abnormal behavior. Messages are probably best considering your self-admitted lack of interpersonal skills, but if you do talk in person, keep what you want to say in mind but don't rehearse, because it's easy to come across as inauthentic and if they break the script, you'll flounder. As far as keeping your cool, this is a skill you'll have to learn yourself. When I talk with someone who's frustrating me, I usually calm myself by remembering that I'm right, they're not, and that if I don't give them a reaction they usually get worked up themselves.
While I said before that your classpect is hurting you in some respects, there might be ways it can help. Mages invite complexity and mystery to the session, and often operate by leaving "triggers" for other players to activate, and this is a good opportunity to leave behind those aforementioned messages. If one of said triggers really helps the player because it invites control over something they were having trouble with, and it's clear you left it, this does a lot to endear yourself to them (as well as disprove any "evil" allegations). If worst comes to worst, you can use the signature ability of Rage, issues commands to things, and command them to [tell me why you hate me] or [listen to me]. I would advise against commands like [stop believing my other half] or [stop believing I'm bad] because those sound suspicious and they aren't permanent, the former are just small "stops" where they'll be forced to hear you out. I would also try talking to your other half (if you can? how does that work???) and see if you can't convince them that this behavior is self-destructive bullshit that jeopardizes the success of the session and potentially their own life considering you two share a body.
My last pieces of advice is that if worst comes to worst, "saccharine veneers" never last long. The archetype of "is super sweet and kind but is actual an awful abuser" is pretty common on the internet, and it's only a matter of time until the jig is up. As long as you don't do anything incriminating, things should work themselves out. Also, you might be a bit too kind or otherwise aren't that familiar with your current aspect. It's impossible to block Rage players. People who have tried either have the messages come through anyways, or their chat clients open themselves up/the computer turns itself on to receive the message. So you can always use that. Just don't come across as too desperate.

thinking about what my goals in terms of gameplay is for Into the Blue specifically
I kinda just realized that like. I think what I was envisioning is kind of Maplestory adjacent? I've always imagined it as part platformer, part RPG - I think initially I wanted it to be more like, maybe having a battle system separate from the overworld or more emphasis on building stats, but I'm thinking against it
like. more that the skills you gain are based on who's in your party rather than anything earned through levels, so probably more like Kirby and the helper characters that can give you abilities when you need them, except instead of absorbing the secondary party member's ability you just switch out
also that like, choosing what to do isn't restricted to real time and is more like a turn based game where opening the party options gives you time to think rather than being something based entirely on reflex
but a lot of people seemed to think it would work better with hotkeys anyway and found the menu clunky, so maybe my thinking that would be particularly useful might be wrong. I could just keep in both as options though, maybe in early game it's just easier to flip between them quickly especially since you only start with one party member
also thinking I might limit parties to three characters at a time? I realize having too many is going to get chaotic fast, but maybe that too could change - I feel like some of it is going to be having some characters just camp out in strategic areas of the map while others do other things, and flipping between them.
A third member will be useful for the current recovery mechanic that means you need to manually pick up other fallen party members, but cannot fight while doing so - one member could be used to haul the downed member around, while the other conscious one clears the path for them to the next checkpoint.
spoilers? but Slugsly is probably going to be the next available party member after Claire - Oswald and Julia can't become party members because they have other plot stuff to do, Bugsly is sort of stubborn and reclusive(not to mention, quite powerful?) so they might be available later but not in the early game
All party members except Ken are susceptible to corruption via Purple, which can only be fully healed away at certain checkpoints if it progresses too far. There's also a corruption threshold where Blue powers cease to work.
Slugsly possibly has the ability to heal, but also absorbs all the Purple effect of the person she heals. If she reaches threshold, she can no longer heal. They're also a big computer tech person, that could be relevant to certain things only he can interact with.
Nothing is set in stone though because I haven't even started working on them yet and I'll probably need to tinker with the current system I have first because it's probably not quite at the point where I can confidently implement a full party system

Struggles of Healthcare
I work as a CNA, and I'm super super passionate about it. I'll be the first one to start screaming at the top of my lungs about resident rights, their dignity, their humanity that people forget about. I take my job seriously, to the point where I go above and beyond to help my residents, to make sure they're comfy/safe. I've worked at VP since January this year, and it's been one wild ride. I started part time, literally only 12 hrs every other weekend, with promises for more hours. Guess what never happened, to no one's shock. So in late July I picked up another job at WS, and was so impressed by the place I wanted to go full time. So starting in August, I dropped my hours at VP and started working at WS. Come to mid September and things are going terribly at WS, I've got coworkers targeting me for no reason and trying to claim I'm bruising the people we care for. Well this wasn't true, and I wasn't going to stick around to find out how much worse things could get. I ended up crash landing back at VP, working overnights. Starting back at VP felt good, like coming home after a stressful trip. It wasn't going to feel that way for very long, as I would discover.
Today is 10-21, and I'm waiting for a call Monday to schedule an interview at another home. Things are not good in the land of VP, and for the first time, I'm nervous to be working at a place. State has a magnifying glass on the place over inappropriate resident relations, and our Director is still trying to hide things from them in regards to the open investigation. One of the residents in question was given a notice of eviction, but it's up to her kid to find another facility for her to go to, and they haven't done anything yet. On top of this, the place is literally falling apart. The transportation van has been broken for over a year, the wifi is very spotty and hard for the residents to use, but they won't pay to fix that either. We are in charge of washing our residents clothes, we have 3 washers and 3 dryers. The problem is one dryer has been out of order for over a year and a half and another one is about to go out, but nothing has been done to resolve that either. I feel angry for my residents, because they live there and don't have other options. This place also keeps employees that are lazy, neglectful and rude to residents, and any reports of this behavior are brushed off by management. One employee literally posted one of the residents on her snapchat story because he fell and she was mad about it. The resident's face wasn't visible but that isn't the point. I just feel like the resident's deserve better and nothing is being done to change it. Also, we can't get new hires in, because our background checks are being delayed by the state. All because we are behind on our Medicare charting, which we wouldn't be behind on if our Director (who cannot fill them out, she has no medical certifications) hadn't kept them in her office where we couldn't access them.
At this stage in the game, I'm just hoping I can kill this interview so I can get out of there. Someone is going to end up getting hurt, and I can't be there to witness it. I know that I wouldn't be able to contain my temper, and I can't guarantee I wouldn't get physical, which isn't who I am anymore. I care about the people that live there, they all have a piece of my heart, but the burn out I feel is real. In the space of a month I've gone from being joyful and peaceful to angry and resentful, and most of all, constantly exhausted. There's only so much one person can take, and I'm reminding myself that there's nothing wrong with knowing your boundaries and honoring them.

Fates: was the story as bad as people say?: a response (Part 2: Birthright 1/2)
Link to the original post here, link to playthrough with the english patch here.
Starting with another translation issue:
>”And Father will forgive you. I know it."
>This is a strange comment given what Xander - and indeed the other two older Nohrian siblings - know of Garon. Camilla even says "Father never forgets a slight" after the prisoner fight. It's also not clear exactly what Garon is supposed to forgive Corrin of; going missing for a few days and being captured by the enemy?
Xander never said that:
>Kamui... You are indeed originally a Prince of Hoshido.
>You and i don't share a drop of blood.
>But from the day you came to Nohr, you were a real brother to me.
>What i'm trying to say is...
>Kamui, you are my precious family.
>Camilla, Leon, and Elise, too, they all share my feelings.
>Even Father, surely.
This is just Xander saying Garon still values Corrin as family, because he doesn't know about the assassination attempt on Corrin yet.
> "Father... evil? How could you say that, little prince/princess?"
>Now, Xander's opinion of Garon is something that'll be touched upon multiple times in this analysis series, but setting that aside for now, Corrin's opinion of the man shouldn't exactly come as a surprise to Xander. Ever since Corrin got out of the Northern Fortress which in-universe is unlikely to have been much more than a month ago, Xander has seen Garon order Corrin to murder prisoners of war (and then Xander himself to kill both the prisoners and Corrin), give Corrin the evil sword, release Hans, and now order a full blown invasion of Hoshido. Hell, the prologue even shows Xander being suspicious of the sword Garon gives Corrin.
Given how desperate Xander is to believe that Garon can still be turned back to the decent man he was prior to the start of the game, and the multiple rationalizations he makes for Garon's actions throughout the story, i don't find it difficult to believe he can rationalize those too:
The P.O.W. murders were ordered because there was no further point in giving them food and shelter, the Corrin fight was ordered because a soldier that won't follow orders is useless to an army, he straight-up has no evidence Garon gave Corrin the sword with the intention of having it be used to try and kill them, there's no point in leaving a strong and capable soldier to rot in a jail cell because of a few murders when they could be helping you fight (an experience Xander is personally familiar with thanks to a certain retainer of his), and Nohr needs the food from Hoshido.
As for the prologue, his only dialogue there is silence; he can just as easily be suspicious of why Garon gave Corrin such an important sword despite no real proof of their combat skills as he can be suspicious of it because he somehow knows there's something wrong with Ganglari.
>I realize this isn't the perfect time for Xander to logically go through everything that has happened, but we now come to the next part of this problem: Xander's confusion over calling Garon evil is so completely detached from people playing the game. Garon looks, talks, laughs, and acts like a typical bad guy with a pencant for arbitrary cruelty; nothing that we've seen him do or say in the prologue suggests he's anything but evil, and the murder of Sumeragi and kidnapping of Corrin suggests he's been like this for many years.
I don't care whether or not people irl are convinced by Xander's loyalty, fear and doublethink towards Garon. That's too subjective to argue for or against.
I DO care whether said doublethink makes sense in-universe, which it does: Garon was a nice person once and Xander is both scared of being killed if he disobeys him and hopes that Garon'll come back to his senses one day if he keeps following orders, which is heavily implied, if not outright stated, multiple times in both the story and supports, but i'll get there later.
>Xander mentions fearing that the Hoshidans have brainwashed Corrin, a bizarre accusation considering it was Nohr who kidnapped and tricked Corrin into believing he was a Nohrian prince to begin with.
Less than four arguments in and we're already at the second translation issue:
>Marx: I'll bring you back, and you'll return to the way you used to be before Hoshido seduced you.
Note the lack of any accusations of brainwashing. This is just Xander threatening to take Corrin back by force and, out of desperation, assuming that going back for a while will cause them to return to Nohr's side.
>To top it all off, Xander admits to have known and hid these facts from our protagonist. This betrayal, that Xander has lied to Corrin their entire life, is glossed over.
I don't think Corrin would care that much; even if Xander had lied about their blood relation, they still had a close bond with all the Nohrian siblings that couldn't have been faked, especially given that they disobeyed Garon's orders for Corrin to take the fort without support in order to help them.
Whether they lied about their relation to Corrin or not, their relationship was still very much real, and that's what Corrin and Xander care most about in this situation.
>The battle is soon on, and it's once again worth pointing out how the conflict is centered around Corrin, rather than the invasion of Hoshido. Only a few battle/defeat quotes do not relate directly to Corrin,
Battle quotes for the Nohrian siblings (exluding the ones when they fight Corrin directly because ofc they're going to mention them in that circumstance):
>Marx: How reckless. To oppose me means to die.
>Camilla: I won't hand over Kamui to anyone...Yes, even to you...
>Leon: I have no intention of showing mercy to an enemy. If you're going to fight, prepare to die.
>Elise: Give back Big Bro Kamui...!!
Defeat quotes:
>Marx: Damn...I underestimated you...
>I have no choice but to withdraw... Kamui...
>Camilla: I can't accept something like this... Kamui...
>Leon: Damn...You were more capable than i thought...
>Looking down on me, of all people...
>Elise: For such a thing...to have happened...
Half and half does not equal “only a few”, and even if i concede that this is a nitpick, of course the siblings are still going to be upset that the sibling they've known and loved for many years just betrayed them and is fighting for the enemy.
>and as soon as the battle is over, Azura tells them they don't have to fight if they don't want to. While I understand the focus being on the protagonist, it is striking how little other characters acknowledge the full extent of the situation; the actual reason for the battle becomes an afterthought.
Yeah, she can tell it hurts for Corrin to fight their own family and suggests that they retreat and leave the fighting to Ryoma and the others if they can't handle it anymore. What else was she supposed to say to them, exactly?
>Chapter seven starts with Corrin on their way to Fort Jinya to help the wounded soldiers there. Where are Takumi, Ryoma and Hinoka? Why doesn't Corrin know where they're going? How much time has passed since the invasion attempt? What is the strategy for dealing with Nohr? None of these questions are answered.
Takumi and Ryoma went to Izumo, unexpectedly had to start fighting off an enemy ambush near it's border, and got separated from the rest of their party in the confusion, as explained by Saizo and Orochi at the end of this very same chapter.
Hinoka was going to stay in the imperial capital, but when she heard that Takumi and Ryoma were headed to Izumo she decided to head there and meet back up with them in case they needed help, as explained by herself in the very next chapter.
The rest of the questions are fair, and i do wish they'd explained why Ryoma and Takumi went to Izumo in the first place too, but i'm fine with them, since none of those questions being unexplained really contradict anything in the story itself.
>The Nohrians, led by Silas, calls himself Corrin's best friend. Once he's defeated, he talks to Corrin about their past together and is easily recruited. Together with Kaze who's acting as Corrin's retainer by this point, the number of characters who are to a large extent defined by their relationship to the avatar is steadily increasing.
Well, Mikoto is dead and Garon plus all the Nohrian siblings minus Elise all hate Corrin at this point in the story for their betrayal, so if anything it's decreased from 16 to 13. Sounds like an improvement to me.
Also, i'm genuinely not sure i'd even count Kaze as being particularly defined by his relationship to Corrin; he feels like he owes them his life for sparing him, even when at risk of getting themselves killed in the proccess, and becomes their retainer as a way of repaying the favor.
Afterwards, most of his dialogue is pretty Corrin-neutral; he mostly just gives status reports to the party and comments on the immediate situation, aside from one chapter we'll get to later.
>Silas knew Corrin for such a short amount of time so long ago that Corrin barely remembers him, while Silas even as an adult is ready to forsake his country and die for Corrin.
That's one hell of a downplay regarding how close the two of them were:
>???: Heyyyo, Kamui!!
>Kamui: Eh?
>???: Still… Is that really you, Kamui? It was true you were a prince of Hoshido…!?
>Kamui: You are…?
>Silas: What? Don’t you remember? I’m Silas! We played together a lot as children! Did you forget about me!? You said I was your best friend!
>Kamui: Best friend…?
After the battle:
>Silas: It was “a knight’s vow”. You saved my life. As a child, when I tried to take you outside of the castle, I was almost executed, but you volunteered your own life to protect mine… At that time, I made a vow. That life you saved… I would always be prepared to throw it away for you.
>Kamui: !! Silas…
>Silas: This life is for the sake of my best friend. So why won’t you kill me?
>Kamui: …Thank you, Silas. I finally remembered. How we always played together as children. Back then, the first glimpse I had of the outside world was because of you…
>Silas: Honestly… it’s a bit late to remember. Absentminded as usual. …But even if you’re a prince of Hoshido, you’re you. For me, nothing changes.
So, Silas and Corrin used to constantly play together when they were children, to the point of Corrin considering Silas their best friend, and they were close enough that Corrin offered their own life in exchange for his when they were caught outside of the fortress, stopping Silas from being executed on the spot.
Silas, understandably, is incredibly grateful to Corrin for that, and decided to become a knight in the hopes of serving under them one day.
One other detail this part forgets to mention is that it's implied throughout the game that Garon did something to Corrin's earlier memories. It took Azura's weird magic ritual-thingy to get Corrin to remember Sumeragi's assassination, it took at least two conversations with Silas for them to remember their best friend, and multiple supports have Corrin stating that they remember next to nothing of their early life in the fortress.
Therefore, it's pretty uncharitable to say that Corrin “knew Silas for such a short amount of time so long ago they barely remember him”; given that their relationship was clearly pretty meaningful to both of them, it's much safer to assume Garon did the whole memory-fuckery thing at some point after Silas got kicked out of the fortress.
>Once the battle is over, you're told by Saizo and Orochi that Takumi and Ryoma went missing on their way to Izumo. Hang on, now the question of how much time has passed is raised once again. There was no scene nor even exposition explaining why the Hoshidans split up, or what their strategy for combating Nohr is. Corrin just arrived at a fort in the middle of Hoshido, which one would assume is closer to the border than Izumo to the far south, yet Corrin seems to be told by people who accompanied Ryoma and Takumi at least part of the way there that they've gone missing, so they must've been on their way to Izumo and then gone to Fort Jinya in the same amount of time it took Corrin to reach Fort Jinya. The timing and logistics behind this make absolutely no sense.
Is there anything implying that Ryoma and Takumi couldn't have just gone to Izumo long before Corrin went to Jinya?
>Furthermore, I want to highlight how bizarrely vague the details surrounding Takumi and Ryoma's disappearance are. Orochi and Saizo are wounded, indicating they've been in a fight, but Takumi and Ryoma only "went missing" on their way to Izumo "last anyone saw them". Does this mean they were split off from each other during a battle, or did something else happen? Orochi phrases this as if going to Izumo was an impromptu decision,
Orochi never said that:
>Orochi: The group on the other side of the border… Lord Ryouma and Lord Takumi…
>Sakura: …Eh?
>Orochi: Those two went missing in the border principality of Izumo…! They could be captured by the enemy, or worse, killed…!
There's nothing to imply going to Izumo was impromptu, and their fear of Ryoma and Takumi being captured by the enemy means there was an enemy, nearby, that could capture them, despite their being in neutral territory, meaning they were very likely in a battle. That's basic logic.
And yes, they were pretty clearly separated from each other during a battle, at least according to Saizo:
>Saizo: At that time, I was only able to stand around like a bystander as Lord Ryouma was separated from us!
>but Yukimura is gathering forces to "march on Izumo" (which really means something else), indicating that there are a lot of Nohrians on the way there (there aren't).
Translations get weird at this point.
Fateswartable:
>Right now the strategist went to the village to command the battle, and when there was a lull in the battle, to confirm the safety of the two, went off toward the Principality of Izumo. Somehow, please help.
Timestamp is 24:00, BR chapter 7 by linkmstr:
>Orochi: The commander right now is Yukimura, but the battle has entered a lull.
>To assure their safety, i'd like to head to the Kingdom of Izumo immediately.
So, Yukimura went to wherever the battle was taking place to help out the remainder of Ryoma and Takumi's troops.
I'm not sure which of the two is more accurate regarding what Yukimura did afterwards (i'll be generous to Fates and assume it's the latter and Yukimura is staying to help organize the troops, if only because him going to Izumo makes no sense given how Corrin never sees him there and he's supposed to be leading the country in the royal family's absence), but either way, there's nothing implying he's gathering troops at that point in the story.
>We also don't know what has led to Orochi and Saizo suspecting Takumi and Ryoma of having been captured (they don't say they saw that, nor that Ryoma and Takumi were fleeing or anything)
Yes, i too wonder why Saizo and Orochi could possibly suspect Nohrian soldiers of ever wanting to capture two members of the Hoshidan royal family. I'm sure being able to hold two of the highest ranking and most important members of the enemy military hostage wouldn't do Nohr any good whatsoever.
>nor why they're going to Corrin to report this if Yukimura is the one gathering forces - wasn't there a reason for Corrin, Sakura and Azura to stay behind?
Already answered the first, but what reason are you talking about, exactly?
The closest they come to saying that someone has to stay behind is Kaze telling Sakura not to go with them because it'll be too dangerous.
>Hinoka continues adding mystery to the logistics and time span of the story thus far. I will keep it brief, but she was in the capital for unexplained reasons, then suddenly decided to try and track down Ryoma and Takumi despite not knowing they were missing. That means she reached the capital before Corrin reached Fort Jinya, despite the former location being further away, and then reached the Wind Tribe before them as well.
Is there any evidence she went somewhere else after the route split battle? Wouldn't it be much more likely that she just stayed at the capital, which was very close to the plains already?
Also, travel speed feat being used as a criticism for the third time in these posts, but this time it's even worse because Hinoka can FLY. Of course she's going to get to places faster than Corrin's party, especially when she doesn't have to climb a stupidly large set of stairs like they do.
>Also, Leo shows up, but he has six lines; three for Zola and three for Corrin, then he leaves. The game never explains why Leo came to Izumo to kill Zola (which he doesn't thanks to Corrin), but I think the actual reason is clear: the game wants to hammer home the fact that Corrin's Nohrian siblings now treat them differently. However, the very brief time he's there, for such a poorly explained reason, doesn't raise the stakes, it just raises more questions.
Leo hates Zola, (somehow) knew about his plan, and was watching him to see whether said plan would work and whether he'd be given an excuse to kill Zola or not, supported by the fact that he immediately catches Zola and stops him from escaping as soon as he manages to give Corrin the slip. Izumo's a neutral state. We have no idea where Leo ran off to after the failed invasion or how long it's been since then. I don't see any issues with any of what just happened from a logistical or character standpoint.
>Now you may be asking yourselves "this all sounds like a lot, what do you mean these last two chapters aren't important in the grand scheme of things?". Well, like the prologue, a lot of things happen but are never thoroughly developed. I don't think the Wind Tribe, Izumo, or the prophecy are even mentioned ever again.
Firstly, the chapters reintroduce Hinoka, estabilish that the Yato can grow stronger, set up that Leo, Elise and Xander are all taking Corrin's betrayal badly, has the party finally be given a concrete location as to where the battle between Ryoma, Takumi and the Nohrian soldiers took place, and introduces Zola, who's going to be extremely important for the next few chapters. Setting up and foreshadowing future plot points and characters is pretty important for a story.
Secondly, the examples you just cited are things that aren't important to the plot, not things that are under-developed. Most of what happens in Chapters 8 and 9 is worldbuilding, and it's fine to have chapters dedicated to fleshing out the world and characters.
>Leo's six lines (one of them being just "no") before leaving summarizes just how little time the game spends on one topic before it moves on.
Those six lines are more than enough; they estabilish that Leo hates Zola, has taken Corrin's betrayal so badly as to start killing his own subordinates for the sin of retreating when they know they've lost a fight instead of staying and dying for no reason, and wants to personally kill Corrin for their betrayal. There's no need for him to stay any longer, especially when he gets a chapter to himself later on anyways.
Also the “no” line isn't in the original script, 0/10 post
>Zola joins you in the next map as an NPC tag along. By this point he's already got comparable screen time to a Hoshidan royal, and it's odd that the game focuses so much on him when so many characters compete for screen time.
It's because he's integral to the first time the main theme of Birthright, trusting in your allies/friends, gets challenged in a major way by the plot, and is neccessary for future plot points in general, so yeah. He's gonna have to be focused on.
>Corrin is called "too kind" for daring to take him with them, marking the third time someone has said that already since the game began.
This is nitpicky as fuck, but then again, so is the original point, so i guess they cancel each other out:
>Aqua: Honestly… So soft-hearted.
>Hinoka: Huh… It seems my brother is from another planet. It’s dangerous… To leave him be.
That's the closest anyone comes to calling Corrin “too kind” during Zola's recruitment.
>Hang on, Izumo is located a fair bit to the east into the Hoshidan part of the map; it's nowhere close to the Bottomless Canyon based on what we can see on the map, but I suppose that doesn't matter much. It's not like the borders are clearly defined.
>Takumi: That battle… it was extremely difficult. …I remember fighting at Izumo’s border, but the battlefield spread to the Infinite Chasm… While moving, I got separated from big brother.
This just means the soldiers chased him all the way to the Bottomless Canyon. I don't see an issue with those logistics.
>Chapter 11 might be the least important one thus far, as you're attacked by invisible soldiers again, but once more this kerfuffle is not mentioned ever again, and there is not even any real exposition or character building offered here.
This chapter is mostly dedicated to developing Zola's relationship with the rest of the team, along with further estabilishing the “trust in your allies” theme.
Start of the chapter:
>Takumi: Yeah. Haven’t you considered it? Nohr could have a mole in this army, someone that’s reporting our movements. Especially a person like that mage… he’s suspicious.
>Zora: E- Ehhhhhhh!? I- I- I am-!?
>Hinoka: …Well, you are suspicious. Extraordinarily so.
>Takumi: Big brother Kamui told me… Apparently you lured everyone into a trap before becoming an ally. It’s not strange that you’d be plotting something.
>Zora: W- Wh- Wha!?
>Hinoka: …Right. Like I promised, I’ll strike to kill.
>Zora: Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii~~!?
>Kamui: …No. Stop it, everyone. Do not doubt an ally.
>Hinoka: Kamui…
>Kamui: Is that okay? There’s no evidence that he’s a spy. If you chose to believe in someone once, continue to believe in them.
>Takumi: Brother… Even if you say that, I cannot trust him.
>Kamui: Is that so… Certainly, I haven’t been able to explain to Takumi properly. My apologies. I’ll speak to you later about this. So, if, possible, I want even you to be able to believe in Zora.
>Takumi: ………… …I got it. If it’s Big Brother Kamui saying it, I’ll make an effort to trust him.
>Zora: Lord Takumi…!
>Takumi: What’s with you. I didn’t say I’d trust you immediately. Because I heard it from Kamui, I’m really considering whether you’re trustworthy. Don’t call my name as if we’re friends.
>Zora: …Sorry.
End of chapter:
>Kamui: !? Takumi, behind you!!
>Takumi: Eh!?
>Zora: Lord Takumi!!
Zola protects Takumi from an enemy attack
>Takumi: Zora!?
>Zora: Damn… Move now!
>Takumi: ! A- Ah…! That bastard, how dare he target me… Haaa!
>???: …………!
>Takumi: It’s over…
>Zora: It is indeed, Lord Takumi… Um, sorry. I shouldn’t have called your name.
>Takumi: No, that…
>Sakura: Z- Zora! You’re badly wounded…! I’ll heal you immediately!!
>Zora: Thank you very much…
>Takumi: …………
>Kamui: …………
>Kamui: Are you okay, Zora? Thank you for that. For saving Takumi.
>Zora: No, something like thanks… I was too familiar. I just thought Lord Takumi was in danger, and my body acted on its own.
>Kamui: Even so… Still, thank you.
>Takumi: Hey… Zora.
>Zora: ! L- Lord Takumi! Ah… Sorry. I said your name again…
>Takumi: No, it’s okay. It doesn’t matter if you call my name familiarly. Zora… I’m sorry for being suspicious.
>Zora: Eh…?
>Takumi: Is it alright? Just now, you… you saved me yourself. If you hadn’t come at that time, I could’ve been killed. And yet, I didn’t trust you… It was bad of me.
>Zora: That…! Lord Takumi, please raise your head! Something that I did, you don’t have to be grateful for such a thing! In Izumo, I was surely going to be executed by Lord Leon… Protecting me from magic is the same as what Lord Kamui did for me then.
>Takumi: Ehh!? Kamui, you did something so reckless?
>Kamui: A- Ahaha… Well, something like that might’ve happened.
>Zora: That’s right. And since then, I’ve changed. …Thanks to Lord Kamui.
>Takumi: …Is that so. I’ll believe that story. Now as a fellow, I look forward to working with you, Zora.
>Zora: Likewise… I look forward to working with you.
>Kamui: …………
Zola's only contribution prior to that chapter was trying to kill the party in an ambush and then begging them to let him join the team, only after Leo made it crystal clear he'd kill him if he ever went back to Nohr. The rest of the party would have no reason to trust him in the next few chapters if it wasn't for him saving Takumi's life here for no apparent reason other than selflessness, and it wouldn't develop the theme of whether to trust in your allies or not either, since most of the party would still hate and mistrust Zola if it wasn't for what happened in the boat and wouldn't consider him an actual ally to be betrayed by in the first place.
All in all, it's a pretty important chapter for the plot and themes of Birthright.
>Why doesn't anyone need to stay at home to manage things?
They need as much manpower as they can get if they want to try and kill Garon on his own home-turf, especially when Yukimura can just run the country for a few weeks in their absence.
>The plan is to fight Nohr once you've found Ryoma, but Corrin is bringing very little in terms of manpower, and Ryoma is still missing in action even though we're nearing the halfway point of the game.
The Hoshidan royal family is also borderline superhuman thanks to the divine dragon blood in them, allowing them to take out rank-and-file soldiers like it's nothing, both in gameplay and story. They don't have much to fear unless they either get surrounded by large amounts of the Nohrian army or have to fight the Nohrian royal family, which is unlikely given that their plan is to sneak up on and assassinate Garon before retreating back to Hoshido.
Also, they have at least 14 people to help them, assuming no one died and disregarding mycastle or paralogues, all of which are either high-ranking members of their military or were hand-picked for the sole purpose of protecting a member of the royal family from danger (minus Silas, but he was given command of his own platoon, so he's probably good in a fight). This is far from very little manpower given how many enemy soldiers playable units can kill in FE games.
>Put it another way: the plot feels aimless, with the main characters just improvising and reacting to what the world throws at them.
They decided to go to a fort in order to help heal injured soldiers, fought off a Nohrian siege, decided to go searching for Ryoma and Takumi after finding out that they went missing, had to fight their way through the Wind Tribe territory, which is the fastest wy to Izumo, to convince Fuga to let them through after being tricked by Iago, countered an attempted ambush by Zola and got Izana to give them a more exact location as to where Takumi and Ryoma went, found Takumi and dealt with his possession early on, defeated the leader of a small country who'd betrayed Hoshido by siding with Nohr and trying to kill them, rescued Kagero, went to meet back up with Ryoma so they could finally start fighting back against Nohr, and in the very next chapter take advantage of Garon being distracted to try and assassinate him.
I'm not sure i'd call any of this aimless, and even if i give you that they get ambushed a lot, it's mostly due to their choosing to be proactive in the first place; this isn't a lack of agency insomuch as it's a consequence for their agency.
>The conflict - the war - is forgotten about.
A small group of Nohrian soldiers tries to take a Hoshidan fort, another group ambushes Ryoma and Takumi on their way to Izumo, Iago tries to sow dissent between Hoshido and it's allies by tricking them into attacking each other, Zola impersonates Izuna and tries to kill half of the Hoshidan royal family, and Kotaro breaks Fuuga's neutrality pact and attacks Hoshidan soldiers in exchange for land from Nohr.
Even if the two countries aren't openly duking it out, this is pretty blatant evidence Nohr's trying it's damnedest to destabilize Hoshido, which we later find out is thanks to it's planning to invade Hoshido soon. A war is more than just two large groups of people killing each other, it's also trying to gain an advantage over the opposing side.
>Next up you run into Camilla. The battle itself means little,
It's mostly there to show that Camilla has taken Corrin's betrayal especially poorly. She's also the only one of the Nohrian siblings Corrin hasn't seen or heard from since the route split, so it's even more surprising for them to see Camilla having a borderline mental breakdown over their treason.
>Camilla, you were right there when Garon effectively told Xander to kill Corrin for standing up to helpless prisoners of war. You also know that Garon kidnapped Corrin as a toddler and kept them locked inside a fortress for their entire life. This isn't news to you.
>Kamui: Camilla… listen to me. King Garon… I was tricked by the man I used to call “Father.”
>Camilla: Father…?
>Kamui: Yes. The reason I was let out of the castle was not because he loved me like his own child. I was a pawn for him to use to invade Hoshido at the cost of my own life!
>Camilla: ! That’s…
>Kamui: The cursed sword he gave me before I left was a weapon to destroy Hoshido. Because of that sword, innocent people of Hoshido were killed! This is a war started out of his cruel ambition, and if you do not bring him down from the throne, more lives will be lost!
>Camilla: Is… Is that so… Nohr… Father- did such a terrible thing… I’m sorry, Kamui. I- didn’t even know such a thing had happened…
She's surprised at finding out that Garon used Corrin as an unintentional suicide bomber, not at the very idea of him being willing to hurt/kill Corrin.
>To put it another way: Corrin and the Hoshidan siblings remain strangers throughout Birthright.
Eh. Their relationship as siblings, ignoring supports, isn't particulary focused on in BR, sure, but they do grow to like and trust each other more throughout the route, even if only as allies.
>The entire premise is based around Corrin's family. It's front and center of the story, and as such not focusing more on their interactions in the main plot is an odd decision - do we really need Zola to do and say more of value than Hinoka?
It might be front and center in the marketing, but in the actual story, Corrin's choice to side with Hoshido has nothing to do with his supposed blood relation to them. Every single time they justify their choice, it's because they don't like Garon and want to kill him in order to stop him from continuing this war. The premise is more about doing what you think is right even if it means hurting the people you love than anything to do with Corrin's relationship with the Hoshidan sibs.
And yes, we do need Zola to do things, because his betrayal is neccessary for Corrin to start doubting their trust in people; so far in the story, they've only been rewarded for expecting the best out of the enemies they recruit, such as trusting Silas to be telling the truth about wanting to join them and being right about that despite only having his word and their memories as proof.
Then Zola comes along and, despite giving every possible reason for the team to trust him (he's been banished from going back to Nohr, doesn't seem to be secretly working for the enemy given that Leo would have killed him if Corrin hadn't intervened, saved Takumi's life and nearly died in the process), trusting in him as an actual ally ends up costing Hoshido a chance to end the war early. He is integral for the development of BR's main theme, and is the only one who could have done so since all of Corrin's other allies so far ARE trustworthy.
>Outside of gathering the siblings - a completely arbitrary task based on the unexplained reason as to why they split up in the first place - and reaching Garon, Birthright has nothing going on in terms of arcs. There is nothing like the Laguz/Beorc tensions or Crest system that ties the narrative together and allows different characters to have a different understanding of the conflict at hand.
I don't see why Fates would need something like those. “Go there and kill the evil king” might be generic, but it gets the job done.
>What I'm saying is, there was definitely room for a subplot where Corrin finds out about not being related to the Hoshidans, which could've caused them to question what they're actually fighting for, but we get nothing of that.
Unless they changed Corrin's entire motivation for choosing Hoshido from “Garon is waging an unjust war against this kingdom and i want to stop him” to “yeah these strangers told me i'm related to them, guess i'll join them then”, Corrin wouldn't have given a single fuck about this surprise reveal even if it was plot-mandatory.
Their choice, and reasoning for said choice, already has nothing to do with their relationship (or lack thereof) with the Hoshidan siblings, and i really don't see any way in which that reveal would have been so devastating as for them to question their entire reason for fighting just because they found out Mikoto fucked some undisclosed person instead of Sumeragi.
>Congratulations, you've found Ryoma - and now what? What does Ryoma actually add to the story of Birthright? Well, he sucker punches Leo, that's funny. ...And what else? He's got no arc, he doesn't help any other character grow in the main plot, he doesn't have any time to bond with Corrin nor have an interesting dynamic with any of the Hoshidan siblings. Practically every single line he has in the main story can be said by someone else - it's not like knowing about an apothecary in Nohr is Ryoma-exclusive knowledge.
He goes from being prejudiced towards Nohr, not knowing about the living state of the majority of the people living there and blaming Nohr as a whole for Garon's actions, to being more understanding of their plight and promising to do more to help them after the war rather than just staying in his paradise while the people of Nohr, and even of neigbouring countries, suffer, along with encouraging Corrin to not doubt his allies and friends when he starts buying into Iago's story of there being a mole in their ranks.
Start of chapter 17:
>Ryouma: What’s wrong, Kamui. You seem to have a lot on your mind since Makrath. If there’s anything you need to talk about, I’m here. I want to be just a little bit dependable.
>Kamui: Big Brother… Actually… There’s something I’m a little worried about.
>Ryouma: What…? You’re worried?
>Kamui: …Yeah. About what Macbeth said in Makrath. He said there was a traitor among us… I didn’t want to believe it, but it’s weighing heavily in my mind. I should believe everyone, but I can’t stop the doubt inside me…
>Ryouma: …That’s not like you, Kamui.
>Kamui: Eh…?
>Ryouma: It isn’t like you to doubt people. Right now, you are the commander of this army. As a commander and to continue being a commander, you must earn everyone’s absolute trust. You believed in and trusted everyone. I heard… You trusted Zora, who was once an enemy, as a friend. What happened to those times?
>Kamui: I can’t afford to be like back then… Too much has happened since then. I’m no longer the child I used to be, not knowing anything.
>Ryouma: ………… Hey… Kamui. Do you believe in me?
>Kamui: O- Of course.
>Ryouma: I see… What about Sakura? Takumi? How about Hinoka and Aqua and Silas? Is there anything they’ve done to make them suspicious?
>Kamui: No way… I’ve already decided to believe them.
>Rouma: Hou… Why is that?
>Kamui: “Why”… that’s…
>Ryouma: …You don’t have to say anything. You still believe people freely. It’s your weakness. And also your strength. Everyone, drawn by that strength of yours, is here now. So, only you can believe in everyone until the bitter end. Succumbing to that man’s words is just what Nohr is expecting.
>Kamui: Big brother… …Thank you, somehow I feel better. I won’t doubt anyone anymore. No matter what, I’ll believe in everyone’s actions.
>Ryouma: Ah. There’s the Kamui I know.
Start of chapter 22:
>Ryouma: This is the capital, Windam...
>Kamui: Nohr's capital...I've finally returned...
>...But no one is walking in the streets. The Hoshido capital is always so crowded...
>Ryouma: That's right...It's too quiet. Is this really the capital?
>Silas: They have no business being outside, or the Nosferatu will prey on them. That's the kind of country Nohr is.
>Ryouma: Silas...
>Silas: In the forest canopy i saw them scrambling, reaching like trees for the moon and starlight...
>Competing for a small amount of food and light, they never stop fighting.
>So, they invade other countries in search of the sun, having no other means to survive.
>Ryouma: I see...when Hoshido wins this war, it would be right to give Nohr what we can spare.
>Those who have something should give to those who have nothing so that there isn't any reason in this world to hate each other.
>Silas: You would give, asking for nothing? Prince Ryouma.
>Ryouma: That's right. Since Mother is dead, i will be crowned king if i return safely to Hoshido.
>After that, my first line of work will be to change the hardship of Nohr.
>We have more food than we can eat, and it will only rot.
>So the surplus food will be given to the hungry people.
After beating Shura later in the same chapter:
>Ashura: I'm Ashura. A long time ago my family served Hoshido royalty...as shinobi of the now dissolved Kouga Principality.
>Ryouma: What...!? You're from Kouga!?
>Kamui: Takumi. What is Kouga Principality...?
>Takumi: It was the neighboring principality to Fuuma, and produced similarly outstanding shinobi.
>But... the two countries had bad blood, and Kouga was destroyed. That territory is now Fuuma's.
>Thinking about it now, perhaps that's when Fuuma aligned themselves with Nohr.
>Kamui: That's...
>Ashura: That day...The day Kouga was destroyed by Fuuma, the people were chased out of the country, never to return to Hoshido.
>We had no other choice but to become bandits in Nohr.
>Ryouma: You have my condolences. That our royal power could not reach you is a painful thought.
>However, you can return to the country after the war.
>Stealing in a place like this is no way to live.
>So, why not cooperate with us, Ashura.
>Ashura: Lord Ryouma........
>Yes, if you're okay with me, i'll cooperate.
>Gold isn't necessary.
>But... if you could, the day you are enthroned, please lend your power to help with the reconstruction of Kouga.
>For Kouga to be rebuilt... that is all i wish for.
>Ryouma: i understand. It's a promise.
When he sees the underground city for the first time:
>Ryouma: I see...So this is the real Nohr.
>The poverty can't be hidden, but this place isn't so different from Hoshido.
>If these are the people, i'm sure a friendship can be built.
It's not the most complex character arc in the series, sure, but it's incredibly disingenuous to claim he doesn't have any arc at all, much less that he doesn't help other characters grow.
The rest of the post is just Odo repeating previous complaints i've already responded to, so i'll end this response here.
All the flaws with these posts that i outlined previously are still present and accounted for here, unfortunately, but this time with two all-new problems: claiming that any part of the story that he doesn't have anything particularly bad to say about is meaningless filler and framing it as if nothing of importance happens there (chapters 8, 9 and 11, despite all of the important plot points, character introductions and set-ups that take place there, all get this treatment), and criticizing Birthright, not for anything to do with the route itself, but for not being what he wanted it to be (a family drama about Corrin having a breakdown when they find out they're not related to the Hoshidan siblings).
Don't worry; it gets much worse than this in the next post.
See you later.

TXT when they accidentally use your insecurity against you in an argument
Tumblr media
A/N: So I wanted to write something for my babies TXT, and I'm a sucker for angst with fluffy endings.... So, here we go again!
Tumblr media
Yeonjun
"I like this dress Yeonjun. And I'm not gonna change out of it, so cut it out," you huff, annoyed at your boyfriend pestering you to change into something else, something a bit less revealing (in his opinion). "Babe no, trust me. This dress isn't all that good. It looked good in your closet, but it's not looking good on you." "Uh huh, and why should I believe that? I tried it out in front of my friends, and they said I looked really nice wearing it," you counter. When he doesn't say anything and just glares at you, you ask him again, "Come on Jun. What is it? Tell me. Give me a solid reason, and maybe I'll change out of it. Although I think there isn't a real reason, you're just being overprot-" Yeonjun loses his cool very easily, and you just crossed the line by pointing out the truth.
"Oh shut up Y/N," he cuts you off, raising his voice. "You're wayyyy too curvy for this dress. It makes you look fat and desperate." When you don't reply, he turns around to see tears welling up in your eyes. It's only then that he realizes what he's said. He just used your biggest insecurity against you, and he can do nothing but watch you run up the stairs to your bedroom, crying. He decides to give you some space, but ten minutes later, he's at the bedroom door, unable to stay away from you any longer. He enters slowly, only to see you bawling your eyes out after having changed out the dress. "Y/N, baby...," he whimpers, "I'm so sorry. I didn't mean that. I know I'm a jerk, but I just want to say, you are right. I was being overprotective."
(Rest of the members are under the cut!)
Tumblr media
Soobin
"Soobin, stop practicing and eat something. You must be starving," you smile at your boyfriend, who is busy practicing for a comeback. He doesn't reply, and after five minutes, you beckon him again. "Soobin, ea-," he cuts you off by loudly saying, "Gosh Y/N, stop being so clingy and annoying." You're taken aback by his sudden outburst. Your Soobin never talks to you this way. " Soobin I just," you start again, only to have him cut you off again. "Can't you see I'm practicing? Can't you see I have better things in life to do, than to eat with you? I swear, when I agreed to dating you, I didn't know you were such an attention-seeker," he says without turning around.
Needless to say, you walk out the door as soon as he's done talking, and what's worse is that he doesn't even notice. Hours later, once he finally nails the choreography, he looks down at the food, and gratitude and guilt wash over him. He tries calling you, but you don't pick up, and that's when he knows he's screwed up big time. He quickly goes home, only to find you asleep on the couch after having cried your eyes out. He wants to leave you be, but he knows he needs to apologize. So he gently shakes you awake, before saying, "I'm so sorry Y/N. This one's one me."
Tumblr media
Beomgyu
"Beomgyu, can we please go out? The weather is so nice!!," you say to your boyfriend, who's busy playing video games. "Maybe later baby. I'm busy right now." "You're always busy," you mutter under your breath, which, thankfully, Beomgyu doesn't hear. He's had a hectic month at the company, and now that he finally had a day off, instead of spending time with you, he's bust playing video games. You are a supportive partner, you really are. But Beomgyu is being really thick right now, and you can't help but sigh. A while later though, you try again, "Beomgyu....are you done yet?," You ask excitedly. You half expected a cold response, but what you didn't expect was a glare from him. "Gosh Y/N, what the hell are you so loud for? It's giving me a headache, and it made me lose the game," he says loudly. "I-I'm sorry, I d-didn't know," you try to reason.
"I have one day off in a whole month, and you don't even have the decency to let me enjoy what I like doing? I don't like going out with you anyway, you're boring," he lowers his voice, but you still hear. Your shock turns into annoyance, as you say, "Oh I'm so sorry. I'll leave you to your stupid game." With that, you walk out the door, determined to not let your stupid boyfriend ruin your mood on such a nice day. Beomgyu decides to restart the game, when another player says, "Dude, did you even hear yourself? Is that any way to talk to your partner? You know they're right man, apologize to them." This manages to knock some sense into Beomgyu, and makes him feel guilty. He walks out of the house, knowing full well you must've gone to Han River. He has no trouble finding you, and as soon as he sees you, sitting on the grass under a tree, he comes up slowly behind you. When you're in his reach, he wraps his arms around you, whispering a soft "I'm sorry."
Tumblr media
Taehyun
You like Taehyun. You really do. And so, you're always trying to find ways to talk to him. But he's been busy this week, and you didn't want to come off as too annoying or too desperate, so you decided to hang out with Huening Kai more. He's a good friend of yours, who knows about your crush on Taehyun. You guys have been fooling around for a couple days, and, unbeknownst to you, Taehyun hasn't been liking how close you two seem. One day, you went up to Hyuka, asking him if he wanted to hang out. Taehyun was sitting close by, working on his laptop. He gets jealous seeing you approaching his best friend instead of him, and before the younger boy can reply, he quips, "Y/N, are you always this desperate? First it used to be me. Now it's Huening Kai. Who's gonna be next? Jungkook hyung? Or Jungwon?" You're shocked at this, since Taehyun just called you what you had been trying to avoid being called. "I'll talk to you later," you say to Huening Kai, before turning away and leaving. "Dude, that was totally uncalled for. She's been hanging out with me because she didn't want to disturb you seeing as how busy you are. And look at you, being a total jerk," Hyuka says to Taehyun. It's then that he realizes his mess up, and he quickly gets up, hoping to catch you before you leave. He sees your form about to exit the building, and he jogs up to you before grabbing hold of your hand and turning you around. "Look, I know I messed up. I just got jealous, I'm so sorry," he says.
Tumblr media
Huening Kai
Hyuka enters your shared apartment, and soon as you see him, you know something is up. He seems pissed, or actually, beyond pissed. "Hyuka, baby, what's wrong? Did something happen?" "Oh nothing much, just the hyungs teasing me like always," he says in mock nonchalance. You see through it though, and ask, "Why? Should I go fight with them for upsetting you?" You meant this only as a joke, but it's enough to make Huening Kai raise his voice, and say "No Y/N. I don't need your help! I don't need you to fight anyone on my behalf, I don't need you to check up on me, I don't need you to send me food. Quit being so nagging. You're not my mom, so stop acting like one."
You're at a loss for words. You thought that your boyfriend liked being looked after, but apparently, you were wrong. You feel guilty for embarrassing him, for being the reason he's upset. "I-I'm sorry, I promise, I won't nag you anymore. I didn't know you didn't like me looking after you. Sorry I embarrassed you," you say, mustering a weak smile. Even though he had said the same words minutes ago, seeing you repeat them makes him realize how rude he's been to you, when all you've been doing was looking out for him. He hugs you super tight, catching you by surprise. "No, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have lashed out like that."
