I did upgrade the mould n deckle made from a smashed up jewellery box and bulldog clips to one made of some frames from the side of the road and thumbtacs

the wood has to be just soft enough to push them in, otherwise they bend
the mesh there came from a dress that i also found in the garbage. I tried using some flyscreen type stuff but it was just fraying and stretching too badly to be practical.
I also have a mortar n pestle specifically for paper pulp because I dont want to buy a whole. fuckin. blender or something if I can help it. I kind of want to see if freezing paper into a block n then having at it with a cheese grater might speed up the process or if it's a stupid idea.

have been hunting for some less splinter-y scrap wood to salvage but it's a proof of concept
I'm unpleasant to communicate with, I fixate on problems, I have very little to contribute and very small comfort zones, I behave in ways most people don't understand and I often have trouble understanding what other people are saying to me. but I think I figured out how to make embossed paper with like patterns n shit on it and it's gonna look dope. so I'm at peace with that.

if we're always forfeiting agency to absolve ourselves of criticism, how will anything ever be different?

probably the most marked feature of Those conversations vs. conscious criticism and general discussion is that one has less of a clear intent. Media analysis that understands the unique features of the subject its invoking and why it invokes them stands apart from "well that guy was a pseudo fascist, but it was a good game, right?"
we're not talking about just the game anymore, you're asking me if there's some merit or goodness to it that overrides the question of conscious choices you make when invoking it. That doesnt make me sympathetic that just makes me fuckin pissed.
"Gotta hand it to 'em" isnt good criticism! You're not "being critical" if your choices start and end with pointing out the flaws, then going merrily on your "that's enough critical thinking for today" way.
Thats why i feel so needled by the *way* some folks bring up my past work, it's less to do with subject and more "to what ends?". You want me to sit down with you in a trench of nostalgia when your little psuedo fascist friends could already give you the dick stroking you need. Fuck off.

more thinking about the trope of the "super fan who buys every bit of merch for this or that media"
I'm not a big expert on bugs - although, that's kind of the joy of having rich, diverse gardens so you can attract lots of native bugs, for instance, plus it's environmentally positive
or like... any of those hobbies that boil down to making you buy the next thing and the next thing to engage with them. more of a problem with predatory marketing and big companies than maybe like, an indie creator selling comics or something.
autistic people need more socially unacceptable hobbies. they cant make us into consumers like this.

Scientists at UC Riverside have demonstrated a new, RNA-based vaccine strategy that is effective against any strain of a virus and can be used safely even by babies or the immunocompromised.  Every year, researchers try to predict the four influenza strains that are most likely to be prevalent during the upcoming flu season. And every year, people line up to get their updated vaccine, hoping the researchers formulated the shot correctly. The same is true of COVID vaccines, which have been reformulated to target sub-variants of the most prevalent strains circulating in the U.S. This new strategy would eliminate the need to create all these different shots, because it targets a part of the viral genome that is common to all strains of a virus. The vaccine, how it works, and a demonstration of its efficacy in mice is described in a paper published today in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.  “What I want to emphasize about this vaccine strategy is that it is broad,” said UCR virologist and paper author Rong Hai. “It is broadly applicable to any number of viruses, broadly effective against any variant of a virus, and safe for a broad spectrum of people. This could be the universal vaccine that we have been looking for.”

it's kind of crazy climate change has occurred at such a remarkable pace that I and everyone else around my age can remember a completely different climate in our childhoods. I truly watched winter gradually disappear in my life.
