Is it weird to see people discussing the people you've mentioned in your songs (like Gray, Theo(?), Katy, to a much lesser extent Michael, etc) like they're just characters in your songs, or would it be weirder if they were talking about them as real, current people? (Or are both just equally weird?)
oh fuck me, who is theo? have i forgotten theo??
and it's odd sometimes, yeah. mostly it's odd when i feel like i need to walk back into that space and drag back up those real people
i had a lot of people asking to hear Broken People on tour, and i just sat down to learn it the other day and was immediately like "i don't want to do this". because Gray is a real person, and that was a snapshot of our relationship at the time of writing but the relationship has changed now, and the idea of performing that at shows just feels strange and painful
it's on me for making those real people into characters, and making myself into a character, and then intentionally creating a space where i go on stage and put on a little play as the Me character and the Other Person character and somehow expect to not be emotionally bamboozled by the whole process haha
that's only partly an answer to your question, and mostly an answer to a question i've been asking myself

Like, I just wanna be two broken people who accept that they are broken.
