Ditching D&D Beyond or never got it in the first place? Here's some free/pwyw resources.

Dicecloud. This online app allows you to make and track character sheets for free! It does a lot of the calculations for you, just like dnd beyond would. Best overall replacement. (Thank you, @chryslerisdead)

PWYW Class Character Sheets by Emmet Byrne. These character sheets in my opinion, are easier to fill out and harder to mess up, with class-specific features built-in. You can easily edit them digitally, and there's even multiclass/homebrew options. Slap em on Google drive or something, share with your DM, lots of options.

Point-Buy Calculator. Easily automates character stat creation if you're using the Point-Buy system.

5e Level Up Tool. Select your class, select your level, get a digestible checklist of everything you need to do to level up. This one is SO GOOD and so slept on.

5e Spellbook. A quick way to reference your spells and build a Spellbook with a ton of filters.

Encounter Calculator. I know challenge rating isn't everything, but this is a good/fast way to see how balanced your encounters are, at a glance, at least in the eyes of the source books.

RPGbot. Lots of resources for DMs and players: encounter builders, dpr calculators, and lists of player options with sample builds and optimization suggestions, which may be helpful to folks new to the game.

Bonus: Online Tools (System Agnostic)

Here.fm. This is the alternative I use instead of roll20, because it's faster/easier. Drag and drop in maps and tokens in seconds, built-in library of stickers you can use for effects, draw right on the virtual tabletop, use temporary drawings to map out moves, built-in dice rollers, and options for proximity chat. I use it in combination with discord (just have players join your here room muted), but it could be used entirely on it's own, I imagine. Not built for ttrpgs, but works incredibly well for them.

Kenku.fm. A PWYW mini browser focused on mixing and sharing music to your dnd games through whatever app you use, with helpful discord support. This app also LEGALLY bypasses the issue that got all the YouTube discord bots shut down, so you can share YouTube audio worry-free.

flapkan. Holy shit, this might be the BEST character sheet option on this list! Form-fillable pdfs with fully automated built-in prompts to auto fill features and spells, built-in Point-Buy and other automated calculations, and it generates a lot for you. Can be used digitally or you can print!

our app suggestions

simply plural: useful for keeping track of alters and fronting. there's a chat function as well, though we don't use it anymore because of the way it formats messages. it is useful for reminders and tasks though! plus, insys communication if you aren't bothered by the formatting. (mobile and desktop free, but desktop is a little iffy.)

fortelling: an app for writers keeping track of their characters, stories, plotlines. however, we tested out how it would work for keeping track of alters and communication/journaling, and it worked pretty well! there are group options like simply plural, but formatted very differently. good for keeping discreet. (mobile is free, desktop is availble but payment needed)

firefox multiacc extension: we just started using this, and it's really helpful!!! we are able to have multiple accounts and tabs open, all organized by system! this, paired with protonmail, is really good for having seperate accounts if that's what your system wants. (desktop available, havent checked mobile)

feedbro: its a simpler, slightly lacking version of the usefulness of firefox multiacc ex.. we used it for a while for certain interests and added tumblr accs on it, and it wasnt the best, but it did work then! (desktop available, no mobile).

twinote: fake twitter. good for sys communication, plus it's just fun! (mobile availble, no desktop?) other fake social media apps work, too, though instagram ones are pretty annoying bc they need images

ifake: fake messages! good for sys communication, plus, again, fun! only thing is that you need to watch ads to make chats :( but the chats are good! many formatting options. (mobile available, no desktop)

notion: good for sys communication/journaling! we use one, and it's really helpful. we have a journal, task list (with reminders), alter list, interest list, plus more (feel free to ask abt it! can show ppl how it looks) unlimited amount of pages and elements as long as you only have one account per workspace! (mobile and desktop available, desktop preferred.) some alternatives are coda (limiting), evernote (limiting, formatting), and onenote (formatting).

pluralkit: bot for systems. we only use this on our phone as we have our own seperate discords on our computer (re: use multiacc firefox ex. <3) but it's helpful! plus, you can change your avatar per server (mobile and desktop available.) alternatives include tupperbox (formatting + old).

youtube music: pair this with firefox adblocker and i swear its so good. its just youtube but focused on music. cant change the playlist pictures, but lost of playlists available! plus less, shorter ads (if u dont use firefox adblocker for some reason). (mobile and desktop available, desktop preferred.)

other suggestions

keep a digital journal/diary! physical is good, too, but we personally find it easier to access digitally, plus less chance of people accidentally finding it.

use firefox. not too system related apart from the multiacc thing but firefox is great

some things we do

we have "certain alter [piece of clothing/thing/accessory]" that helps us determine whos fronting sometimes :)

try to keep track of what happens in life! its helped us integrate to be a little less confused with life

dont feel bad if you dont use any of these! its your system, your choice, you choose how to navigate everything <3

I'm hoping to get back into writing soon, but starting is always the hardest part for me. I have so many ideas but I'm terrible at executing them. Any tips/inspo you could spare?

Hmm...

Setting a timer or using a Spring Bot (on discord) is useful to help getting you to focus on "This Is Writing Time", but as often as it helps me focus it also ends up showing me how unfocused I am - nothing says "Maybe not today" quite like meaning to write for 30 minutes and getting 100 words out.

Or maybe that amount means you had to work to get your feet under you.

What I mean is, you want to try maybe once a day, or every other day, or as much as you can, but if those first 15-30 minutes don't get you into a groove, don't force it. Go do something else. Forcing it will just get frustrating.

Sometimes too I find it's best to just start with what I want to write. don't worry about the opener, the ending, the next chapter, etc. Just start writing. I have a few unposted WIPs where I have like mid-and ending chapters mapped out with snippets of full sections already wrote, with almost nothing mapped out leading up to them.

I got the words down, and at some point I'll sort out how to get there. I've jumped ahead even on stuff I do have posted. Passing Fascination is posting slow for now, but I have a lot of Down The Road stuff done and once I reach it the updates will happen faster.

But I'm not rushing getting there because I don't want to be disappointed in rushing the story just to get to the good parts.

It's also why I write more than one thing at a time. I've got something ridiculous like 14 open WIPs right now. In July I'm adding the Host Club AU to that list whether or not I've finished anything else.

But this lets me think about story stuff during lulls at work (or shower, or chores, or commute), and then go "okay today I'll work on this story because I know what I want to write" - whether that's the next chapter, or 4-5 chapters out.

Words don't expire, so it doesn't matter when I write what parts, just that I keep writing. And sometimes writing what I want will get my brain to realize what I need to do to get there.

And sometimes when I get there I edit/adjust what I had to fit in with the build up more smoothly. Words don't expire but they're not set in stone either.

And don't get frustrated if you write 5k words and then have to scrap it. You still got the experience of writing that, and you can use that to keep writing. It's okay. It's part of the process. It's not a straight line, it's a journey where back-tracking is perfectly fine.

I do like listening to music and having art up of whoever I'm writing about it - it helps ME focus, but it's not a for everyone type of thing either.

But that's off the top of my head. If I think of something more I'll add it... if any of that even helps ^^;

Hello moablr! Guess who? 🥸 I don’t know if anyone is here who does not know that I moved blogs, but, surprise! It’s aleyna from the now deleted blog, cupidchois xD

Anyway, let me get back on track.

Back on December 2021, I was sketching out a plan to start a discord server for all txt fic writers & readers!

Why was I working on something like that? Well, the writing community was declining rapidly. And sadly, it has only worsened since then. In case you’re still not aware, the interactions have been decreasing to the point it feels pointless sometimes, writers have got their works stolen and reposted, and, people still get hate over literally anything, for god knows what reason! So many writers have quit because of the above mentioned reasons and more, and there are many who are contemplating to do the same. Can you blame them, though?

If you are someone who has been here since 2020/21, you know exactly what I’m talking about. And what does this server has to do with what is going on? It’s an attempt to help with the current situation.

Now, why should you consider joining the txt fic hub? How will that benefit you?

If you are a writer, we strive to create a space where you can promote your works, seek help for anything writing related (beta readers, fic banners, tumblr advice) and connect with the fellow writers and obviously, the readers. We’ve added the sprinto bot for writers who are looking for sprints! We welcome mxr writers as well as mxm writers!

If you are a reader, you can easily find new fics to read by checking the fic promotion channels! If you have a favorite fic you want to share with others, there’s a fic rec channel for that too! You can help out the writer’s by providing feedback!

In general, you can make new connections, have fun chatting, and help strengthen the bond of the moablr writing community! You can select your unique roles from the customization channel! We have various bots for your entertainment (memes, music, etc.), and we take suggestions, so you can always tell us what you think would be nice addition to the server! We also have different spaces created for minors and adults <3

Additionally, you’ll only have to follow a few chat rules and promotion rules! This is not any type of network, so you can leave at any moment if you get overwhelmed (we will try our best to not let that happen) or simply lose interest; and there’s absolutely nothing you need to notify the admins about. This is your place, and you can share as little or as much information you feel comfortable with!

The server is up and currently consists of 91 active and inactive members! If you face any problems, you can always reach out to me (the admin) or the mods who are there to help out! 😊

I haven't been on the server for a long time. but now I’m back and I want to raise activity like before, the guys are still often active there and communicate with each other, but I feel like the server is fading away, so I decided to again advertise for my server, so to speak.

finished this a while ago ..... forgot about it ... did a couple edits today . here u go.

formally introducing my "y/n"; worms! or dewdrop, if you prefer. and their mini music man friend, dingy. pardon how it's drawn, im still not the best w djmm/mini music men.

stupid lil information dump and two other versions of the image (flat color and one with extra writing on it) under the cut

worms is the only human nightshift janitor at the pizzaplex, and later on instated into a parts and service position as well (without warning from fazco, they kinda just ...... did it for them). the fazwrench is it's mortal enemy. it does have a bag, dingy rides in it sometimes and its where they normally keep their fazwrench, but i didnt feel like drawing it here 🤍 worms does the jobs that staffbots cant do; which actually turns out to be quite a few things. however, luckily there are two zones that they dont need to clean; the arcade area, and the daycare. according to fazco, djmm and the staff bots got the arcaded covered, and the daycare attendants are fully self cleaning. theyre not allowed to interact or talk with any animatronics more than necessary, whch just includes asking the glams to leave their rooms so they can be cleaned and nothing more, which shouldnt be a problem, right?

What is the Coalition?

This is the home of the Homestuck Fanauthor Coalition, a discord-based writing club for fanauthors of all things Homestuck! Any current or aspiring author of Homestuck fanfic is encouraged to join, with the caveat that they understand this is a place for those who have a commitment to bolstering creativity in the Homestuck fandom. We provide a space for brainstorming, proofreading, beta-reading, co-writing, and all other forms of collaboration you can think of! We uplift each-other's works and encourage each-other to keep creating. We are mostly AO3-based authors, but several of us also write MSPFAs, and a few of us even write fangames! So whatever your homestuck writing project, you can find a place among us.

As part of this, we have two AO3 Collections.

Homestuck FanAuthor Coalition Fic and Recommendations is broken into two sub-collections: Our Stuff, which attempts to catalog ever member's works, and Our Recommendations, through which we suggest fic we've read to each-other, mostly written by those not in the Coalition.

Homestuck Fanauthor Coalition Writing Competitions is where we host our competition fics! We all vote together on a prompt, then write our works anonymously, submitting them to a hidden subcollection. Once the works are due, they are revealed, and everyone (not just the participants) gets to read the fics. It is her firm belief that fanfic is the lifeblood of fandom, and she wanted to create a space where authors and editors could meet on equal footing, rather than gather in servers dedicated to one author's fanfic, or servers generally dedicated to Homestuck itself. She saw an empty niche and decided to fill it.

@thegoodthebadthealternative @arealpeople / sarcasticcelery on Ao3: an admin of the Coalition, Celery has been in fandom since late 2018, and was 75% through Homestuck proper when the epilogues came out, so he had an interesting introduction to the community. He is of the opinion that no work of media should be left deconstructed, and that all art should be shared- especially the ugly stuff. He hopes the coalition will facilitate this in the rich seedbed that is Homestuck.

(I know, they're old 💀) They didn't join the homestuck fandom until 2019. Orange shares the same belief as M^3, about fanfic being an important facet of keeping fandom alive, and come hell or high water they're gonna contribute.

AFK

My friend’s been AFK in the discord chat for 10 minutes. He said he’d be back, just a trip to the bathroom. I guess he’s distracted, I could kick him, queue up, but I’ll wait for a few. It’s a shame, if I’m honest, the update’s just out, and the longer we wait, the more likely something turns out unstable, and the game goes offline.

My friend’s been AFK in the discord chat for 2 hours. I gave up after an hour of waiting, and left him deafened and muted alone. I joked about it with my friends that he’s not going to get much socializing alone in chat like that. He’s been marked as idle for a while now, so I can’t help wondering where he’s gone.

My friend’s been AFK in the discord chat for a day. Despite my best efforts, I can’t help being a little bit worried. He’s online probably more than he should be, but now his account icon hasn’t shifted from a little yellow circle saying he’s idle. This is the day of the week where we pull up the watch-together channel and the whole server watches dumbass memes together. We use a different channel tonight.

My friend’s been AFK in the discord chat for two weeks. There are thoughts at the back of my head that I haven’t put in chat, even in the vent channel. I already know I’m not the only one thinking it. We don’t use that voice channel now. Instead, we use the one we named ‘barnacle-brain-refuge’ after needing somewhere to kick someone while he was drunk off his ass. We could kick him from the general channel, but we don’t. Somehow, it feels better to see him there than the alternative.

My friend’s offline. We don’t know why. There were thunderstorms in the area he lives in. It could be that his computer lost power. I want to call check the outage reports in his area, but I only know he’s in Iowa. I don’t have an address, or even a zip code. He never shared his phone number. He never needed to. It’s stupid to worry, of course; he’s just a guy I friended because he could play support like a god, and we needed someone like that to queue with.

My friend’s still offline. It’s been two months now, and a friend who doesn’t post often asked where he went. We had to tell him the truth; we don’t know. We don’t know how to find out. We have a first name, a user id. No other shared servers. No outside connections. I’ve stopped expecting him to come back.

My friend’s offline. It’s been a year, and we never said goodbye. We don’t know what happened. All we know is that he’s gone. He still has his server roles, including the one that’s just an insult. He’s still got permission to tell the music bots what to play, even though the music bot we were using got banned off of discord. Even his avatar is still that dumb edit we made of his favorite character offering the viewer weed. It’s just an offline username in the sidebar, but I can’t bring myself to touch it. When he walked away from the keyboard, what happened? I’ve run the question back and forth through my skull until it’s 2AM and I know I’ll be exhausted at work, but I never get an answer.

I never will.

A new task force! Admittedly when we first discussed this, we were a bit upset, knowing how passionate we were to start up a new media literacy workshop for the summer. But upon further thought, honest conversations like these need to happen in every organization, ones where we admit our current capabilities and limitations so as to best protect everyone's time and energy while simultaneously continuing to fulfill our mission statement.

Further, we've already noticed a weight lifted amongst our volunteers! We utilized yesterday's Sunday meeting time to discuss BFP's history thus far, what it means to be a 501(c)(3), the nonprofit industrial complex, why we utilize a horizontal organizational structure, and then the best part? Our core beliefs! We only got to the first three (the right to organize, intersectionality, and educational equity), but the conversation was SO productive! Youth were given the chance to openly ask and answer questions with fellow activists around the globe. Even with just those three topics, we were able to cover: organizing tips, COINTELPRO, the gamification of politics, elite capture, epistemic injustice, the infantilisation faced by those at the intersection of transness and disability, equity vs equality, and accommodations in school! So much!

Next Sunday we'll continue this educational dialogue, so feel free to join us on Zoom (link available through our Discord server as well as college and career mentorship, peer support, mutual aid, private channels for marginalized communities, and the space to openly ask any social justice related questions without shame)! And once we eventually cover all of our core beliefs, BFP will officially begin designing a specific mission and timeline for this new task force, ensuring that all of us fully understand what our nonprofit stands for before making concrete decisions. Genuinely so excited to see how our little family transforms as we have already learned so much from one another in just one meeting since making this decision :)

We do have bots in our server that can translate text messages for our non-English speakers, bots for those with dissociative identity disorder so their alters/fronts appear as different accounts with different names, bots for our nightly studying and music sessions, nonverbal emotes, and more!]

BFP was originally founded in 2016 by a team of 12 year olds in New Orleans, Louisiana. As the organization grew internationally and the work became more complex, we began to lose volunteers almost immediately as they joined. Why? We didn't have a proper onboarding process, aka a clear and efficient orientation and trainings for newcomers! As kids ourselves, none of us had entered the workforce yet so we weren't even aware that "onboarding" existed. Because of this, new hires would either become overwhelmingly confused and leave or be thrown straight into the work and burn out. As young adults now, we aim to create an efficient onboarding process and share our discoveries with other youth organizations in the future!

Due to that confusion, BFP has become incapable of hosting any more large-scale workshops, as we have failed to thoroughly prepare our newer volunteers with clarity. We owe it to those directly impacted by coercive hierarchies to do better. So, what's next for us? On 03/26, we decided to create a cross-committee Activity & Retention Task Force. This team will be dedicated to expanding our audience, maintaining the family that we've curated thus far, analyzing the success and failures of our work, and most importantly... Emphasizing BFP as a safe space for marginalized youth globally. With such a diverse team, we are always learning from one another and we'd like to continue sharing that opportunity with as many people as possible. But there's something we'd like to keep in mind!

The Nonprofit Industrial Complex. We are aware as a 501(c)(3) that organizations' radical missions can often become co-opted either by their donors or distracted by their own maintenance. If BFP ever becomes too focused on its own survival rather than that of the oppressed… We will take that needed step back. Community should always be our focus. This task force is meant to broaden youth’s access to political education and peer support, not necessarily propel BFP within the nonprofit industry. The people must come first and foremost.

More concrete steps will be released soon to hold ourselves accountable. We look forward to improving this organization so that BFP can put out the work that y'all deserve and that we know we are capable of producing. Thank you for reading! Check the caption for more information."

I did, and I still do... but not quite literally.

I am not surprised we managed to be friends– best of friends pro max fully paid, on top of it. (Pun intended)

Getting to know you wasn't surprising at all. Acquainting myself to someone like Bonibel Bubbles isn't something new, at the very least... It wasn't love at first sight either— let's face it, who actually does that, right? (Although admittedly, It's not that hard to open up to your quirks, despite your ghosting phases every once in a few months.) ...

Getting to know you was surprising in a way that I'm finding myself doing the patterns I once sworn I'll never do again, if it only means allowing myself to be completely vulnerable to another person.

And yet again, the moment you walked right in: it felt familiar . . . like home.

I know it's going to be you.

I am hoping it's you.

I will make sure it's with you.

The sweetness of your presence encapsulates a formula just enough for my walls to completely collapse at the whim of your delicate hands.

My fondness grew slowly, and gradually— like a domino effect of finding how I found myself staying past my bed time just to talk to you (who, btw, has the body clock of someone who lives overseas), of how I look at my phone notifications multiple times a day to check if you've already woken up after dozing off at 12PM, or of by which realizing that I am here— composing a cheesy ass introduction to this tumblr post, after a long list of plans on how I would profess my affection formally.

Possible Discord server

I am looking at making a discord server for regressors, dreamers, CG, and flips(but supporters are more than welcome as long as respectful).

I am just wanting to know if you guys would be interested in that idea or would want to be part of the staff if it opens.

So if this is something you are interested in send me a message so we can discuss your ideas, wanting to be part of the staff, or anything involving the possible server.

Here's a bit about the server if it were to be made.

It is a little-space server with a cafe theme. It will welcome all regressors, dreamers, CGs and flips.

It will have "classes for regressors/dreamers" who want to join. it will consist of worksheets, kahoots, and maybe calls for learning each week.

Colouring pages will have their own channel (so you can get colouring sheets if needing some)

It will have a TW section for venting, getting advice, etc

General chats for everyone, but all chats for only littles/cgs/flips

monthly movie nights, nightly nighttime music, lullabies or bedtime stories weekly, and so maybe other fun pings.

So many fun bots. Including plural kit for systems, counting bot, pokemon bot, etc

System, LGBT, POC, etc safe place.

A way to make friends.
