Here’s a question that I’m conflicted about:
Should you be able to sexualize a canonically asexual character?
I personally think no. But one could make the argument that asexual =\= above sex. I’m mean there is sex repulsion but unless the creator says they’re a sex repulsed asexual, it should be fine. On the other hand it’s still in a way erasing the representation of an asexual character by only depicting them as sexual.
It’s very confusing to me cause when I see a asexual character being sexualized (especially if it’s an aroace character) it makes me sad, cuz the people depicting the asexual character in typically sexual situations are blatantly ignoring their asexuality. I’d compare it to turning a canonically gay character straight. But at the same time I recognize that depicting asexuals as strictly not into sex is very damaging to the asexual community as it could lead to misunderstanding what asexuality is? This just may be a personal problem :/
What do you guys think?

As an asexual woman, I have a lot to say about the topic of asexuality. There’s a lot to say with how it intersects with feminism, whether or not it’s a real thing, if it is a real thing, whether or not that thing is a sexual orientation, what you actually face in this day and age as a woman that categorically disengages with sex, and if it even matters where sexual orientations/preferences come from. @ambelle and I get into all of those topics in my latest video.

Listen man, you guys can't be like "you guys need to be normal about asexuality" and then turn around and get weirdly judgemental when you find out someone doesn't have sex by choice. Like that's weird that some of you do that.

If your reasoning for changing a character’s asexuality is because you’re doing it for “fun” ask yourself why you think asexuality is boring in the first place. Whats more, if you feel the need to use asexual terms to find “loop holes” in asexuality to justify your shipping, you need to reevaluate your whole view on asexuals if you think weaponizing our terms against us is ok (this includes asexuals within the community too, you may not care but others do!)
I’m just sick of being a broken record constantly having to defend my view that asexuality should be treated with the same respect as any other lgbt+ identity. Cuz it’s not even about the fictional characters at this point, it’s about respect. If you wouldn’t ship a lesbian with a man and try to justify it by saying “well maybe she’s bisexual”, than it should be the same for asexuals :/

i know that binghe being extremely jealous isn’t “normal” or “sane” but i’m honestly on his side here. like his concerns that sqq will be stolen from him are pretty rational. i really think that almost every scum villain character, in the event that sqq would want to papapa with them, would agree almost immediately. sqq is the xianxia equivalent of helen of troy.

the MORE aphobia i see in fandoms, the more annoyingly in-your-face aroace i'm going to get. i aint gonna sit back and let aroace get erased, aphobia is literally just repackaged homophobia.

I don't think younger/newer users fully grasp the shit show that ace discourse was around 2014-17
It was so hostile that, to this day, discussions that begin to derail just enough can make me physically nauseous, some specific mockery trigger crying sessions years later. We lost most accounts with any sort of ace positivity. There was no information, no support, and all this damage was done predominantly by other queer people.
All this to say that you, however you identify yourself, should be engaging with aphobic comments the same way you do any hate. We don't sugarcoat or try to be comprehensive with people who are blatantly racist, homophobic or terfs, so why give it a pass just because it's coming from a queer person? I see how this tolerance goes and it's done enough damage as it is.

saw someone on here the other day say that we don’t need aromantic and asexual representation in media because that’s a “sanitized” identity like BITCH WHAT????? IF YOU CAN ONLY SEE ASPEC PEOPLE AS CHILDREN THAT IS A YOU PROBLEM.

asexuality and aromanticism are inherently queer and deserve to be included in your pride celebrations.
