guys i am begging you not to censor your captions. i want to know what's being said in its entirety not your censored versions. D/deaf people, HoH people, and people with auditory processing issues deserve the same fucking access that others do.
oh and while i'm at it can you caption your entire video, not just certain moments it's really fucking annoying.
thanks.

i made my first comic :) that ND feeling when you have so much more to process than NTs and it's hard to answer even "simple" questions.

It’s very kind of people I speak other languages with to assume that my slow comprehension and endless requests for repetition are as a result of us not speaking my first language, when in reality, my auditory processing is just complete shit.

I think a thing that is frustrating about neurotypicals as someone with autism and auditory / language processing issues (yet to be explicitly diagnosed to my knowledge) is how little they understand neurological differences and disabilities in processing things like hearing and yet they feel like they understand it to a sufficient level.
Case in point, today at work one ofbmy coworkers got all mad and offended because I was "rude and disrespectful" because in the morning, while thinking about the things I needed to do and thought of an important question before I could start my question to ask my mentor, asked the question and she was talking and thus I interrupted her. Yes, rude now that I KNOW she was talking and so I apologize, but I really hate the implied intent or lack of caring put with the "autistic interruption" shit
Ignoring social cues and rules aside, I *literally* didn't realize / process she was talking. Of course, I'm not deaf or HoH so I can't say that because "How could I not hear her? She was speaking loud enough to know" and there is a HUGE difference between *hearing* and *processing* and so when they always give the advise of be more considerate / think before you speak or tell you the social rule to not interript cause its rude, it doesn't help like at all
Cause yes, I KNOW that and I DO think before I speak. I just *literally* didnt process her speech as speech and it was filtered as white noise.
Its like going into a busy and loud club and saying "dont speak if the guy two tables down is talking"
Like yeah, maybe I COULD hear that he is talking among the 50000 other people talking, but Im not processing him talking as distinct from the ambient noise around me.

This is nowhere near what I usually post, but can I just rant and express how fvcking annoying it is to have really severe auditory processing disorder? Like, it’s bad enough I have to wear hearing aids (they don’t make it louder, they do some suppression and isolation) + headphones all the time, and I still have to read lips when I do that, but apparently I’m “being dramatic” because I “don’t actually have any hearing problems” because I can hear, but what does it matter that I can hear if I don’t know what I’m hearing???
And you get shit from both deaf and hearing people, like deaf & HOH people telling you to “stop using our services,” and “well… but you don’t actually know what it’s like to have hearing problems, like… yes I do??? also like, Ive really wanted to learn ASL for a long time, so that maybe, just maybe I can communicate without issues, but in the class for hearing people at my local disability services area, they always talk to teach so I couldn’t understand, yet apparently I wasn’t eligible for the non talking course with subtitles???
Not to mention, teachers not believing you, people thinking you’re stupid, people in general not believing you have hearing issues because “you listen to music” and “you sound so normal” and having to constantly explain that you have to see someone’s face to understand what they’re saying and you’ll still get it wrong a lot.
Of course I’m not saying that I’m deaf or hard of hearing, I’m just tired of not having anyone understand and being penalized for something I can’t control.
Anyways rant over, I hope some people can relate and feel seen.

So I just accidentally found out that Amazon has a new option where you can make the dialogue louder than everything else, and um, LOVE THAT?? My partner usually doesn’t like wearing their hearing aides outside of work and sometimes has trouble reading subtitles fast enough, also I have processing issues and overly blasted background music really fucks with my ability to understand things sometimes

what the hell is brian david gilbert saying in his newest song?
I know it's got to be funny. I know he's buried a freaky joke in there. I wish I knew what it was.
EDIT: I thought I had watched Brian's newest video to completion. Turns out I had not done that, because it actually contains the song above:
youtube
Spoiler: it is a freaky joke, he's joking about his death!

advice for people with social anxiety! a guide written for VRChat, but it's probably at least a little applicable to meatspace as well! ok, don't jump.
a circle of 6 or more is really hard to enter. you might get exhausted trying to follow the conversation, and it's hard to contribute to as well. try a group of 3, or practice greeting stragglers.
silence is ok! it's part of the natural ebb and flow of conversation. sometimes words don't work and you just have to gesticulate, crouch really fast, or jump! there's no pressure for thinking what to say. remember to breathe, just vibe, and let it come naturally. listening to music helps! don't be hard on yourself, you're making an impact just by being there.
take breaks! if there's a ton of crosstalk and you're getting overwhelmed, move to a more peaceful area. you might also take this opportunity to listen to your body and take the headset off for a little bit if needed.
find an anchor! if you notice anyone you vibe with, stick with them! they are the ones you know you can keep company with even if you aren't talking. people move around and circles can grow out of your comfort zone, so remember the above tips and keep an eye out for any other potential anchors.
