Story Prompt 43
In the dimly lit room, the air was thick with tension, and the man's raspy voice sliced through the silence.
He leaned in, his icy eyes piercing through the shadows, a history of battles etched into their depths. A blade pressed against the captive's skin, a silent threat in the dance of danger.
"I used to think I could save them all, you know," he muttered, bitterness clinging to his words like a stubborn stain.
The restrained figure stared back, a mixture of defiance and numbness in their eyes. "Maybe you just didn't have the guts for it."
A wry smile played on the man's lips. "Guts? Oh, sweetheart, it's not about guts. Life has a way of breaking even the bravest."
As the tension escalated, the captive's response cut through the room like a gust of wind. "You're not strong enough to face the storm, my friend."
The man's grip tightened on the knife, a flicker of anger in his gaze. "You think this is a game? You're playing with fire, and you'll get burned."
A soft, mocking laugh escaped the captive's lips. "You can't burn what's already ashes."
Their noses nearly touched as they exchanged words in the shadowy dance. "Paint me as the villain in your tale," the man hissed, the blade gliding smoothly against the skin. "I'll be the one to end you."
A spark of challenge ignited in the captive's eyes, a smirk playing on their lips. "You don't hold that kind of power. I am the storm."

Hello all! I am back after a hiatus due to work. I hope y’all like this, apologies that it’s a bit shorter than the rest.
Prompt #6
They should have known it was too easy.
Spy clutched the gash in their side as they stumbled through the hallways of the expensive staterooms. They hoped to stem the tide of blood at least until they made it back to their room over on the other side of the street where they could treat it, but time did not seem to be on their side this night.
Come to think of it, nothing had been on Spy’s side tonight.
The case was supposed to be easy. It was a simple observation and report. Tail the two bit Congressman for the four day voyage, dig up some dirt on the guy, and bring it back to the Hero to keep in his pocket for a rainy day. It was a simple process they had done a thousand times before for various parties.
How had this one gone so wrong?
A stab of pain shot up their abdomen when their hand slipped from the wall. Damn that hurt! With each passing moment the ability to stay upright seemed less and less like a natural function and more like a lifesaving crusade.
“Need a little help?” A singsong voice floated over them.
Spy felt their already shock-covered skin spring into new goosebumps.
They knew that voice.
A hand gripped the back of their neck in what would have appeared to be a friendly gesture, if not for the pressure behind it.
Spy did their best not to whimper.
“Why don’t we go back to my room and the two of us can discuss how you ended up…a little worse for wear.”
Spy could only hope that the past, but albeit, gone friendship they had held with Villain would spare their life tonight.

"BAD GUYS DESERVE HAPPY ENDINGS, TOO!" Except It's A Random Person's Essay Opinion On It.
So I've legit lost count the number of times I've seen people say that villains deserve to get a fairytale Happily Ever After and whatnot. But here's the thing ... I always get the vibe that they mean it as in it's always rainbows and butterflies (it's not) where the good guy gives the bad guy a Heel-Face Turn.
No, no, no. Stop right there.
While I don't entirely mind there being complicated af relationships going on in stories — OG Fiction or Fanfiction, it matters not — we really need to take a step back and look at the bigger picture. How about instead of having the bad guy having a Heel-Face Turn or whatever we just flat out have The Bad Guy Win? It's actually been done before, and quite a lot, surprisingly. Here are a couple of examples down below:
Pokemon USUM where the big bads from Gen 1 to Gen 6 (Giovanni, Archie, Maxie, Cyrus, Ghetsis, and Lysandre) won in an alternate timeline.
Most of the SAW films with a vast majority of the traps.
Batman Arkham Knight actually succeeded in doing this by having Scarecrow reveal who Batman truly is ... ... ... ... ... TO THE WHOLE ENTIRE WORLD VIA LIVE TELEVISION.
Injustice: Gods Among Us played with this when The Joker manages to successfully brainwash Superman into killing Lois Lane. This one's pretty triggering, though, so head's up.
Dragon Ball Z plays with this as well for the timeline Future Trunks is from Cell actually won due to everyone except for Bulma and Trunks dying by the hands of Androids 17 + 18 and Cell.
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers played with this for the Rangers actually lost the ability to morph permanently via the morphers they had at the end of the series thus having to obtain the Zeo Crystals to morph into the Zeo Rangers and not the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.
Mortal Kombat 11 plays with this if you choose Shang Tsung over God Liu Kang and have it to where Raiden and Fujin are mindless servants.
Something similar happens in Injustice 2 where you choose Superman over Batman to where the latter becomes a mindless servant of the former (thus scarring the young Supergirl).
With all of that being said, why not have it to where the villains do have a happy ending but not in the way we expect it. Get your readers emotionally invested to where they're not happy with the outcome kind of like when Sephiroth killed Aerith out of nowhere in the OG FF7. Or, if you really want to, make it to where they get a kick out of it kind of like how The Joker makes Batman laugh at the end of The Killing Joke. Just have the bad guy win every now and again.

Hello my readers!
I felt like the last chapter I left it in a way that I felt it needed more and of course I want to tease you more lol . . . so I posted this chapter to give your imagination a run for its life and love having different interpretations of what might have happened and/or will happen in future chapters. I promise that more chapters are on the horizon and hope you enjoy this as much as I have ;)
So for this chapter, what do you guys think? Are our protagonists okay? Where were they heading? And do we have our newest villain that may or may not cause more problems than we expect? Who knows . . ? Hehehehehe
Thank you all for your support and Good Hunting to all! :DDD

HERO VS PROTAGONIST
Tumblr media
This is something that is messed up a lot between writers. The term 'hero' is often confused, misused and abused, and I think differentiating between your protagonist and hero can help a lot with your understanding of the characters and their roles. After all, they are a very important concept.
A HERO: is the character who does the valiant thing, or 'saves the day', in other words. The term 'hero' contrasts the term 'villain' as they are measures of a person's morality. A PROTAGONIST: is the character that the story's narrative follows, or the main character that is involved in the events of a story. The term 'protagonist' contrasts the term 'antagonist' as they are the actual roles you must assign the characters.
Ex. In the TV series 'Loki', Loki, at every point of the story, is the protagonist. An obstacle or person trying to stop his goals is the antagonist, regardless of their intentions.
However, at points where Loki's morality was dark, he was a villain, and when it wasn't, he was a hero. Other characters can also be classified as heroes or villains.
This can be an easy way to understand morally grey and/or faking characters. 'The hero is the villain.' can only mean someone pretending to be a hero is a villain. However, 'the protagonist is the villain.' means the story follows a villainous character.
The Protagonist is the main character. The Hero is the good person.

tho I've also seen ppl say jc isn't an antagonist bc he's not completely evil and there are other bad guys but that's just not true from a literary perspective. an antagonist is, objectively, anyone who opposes the protagonist, which IS his role for much of the story. and there can be multiple of them in a work, they don't need to be on the same level of opposition or aligned at all. a school bully and a megalomaniac who wants to conquer the world are both antagonists

Story Prompt 103
There stood a figure shrouded in darkness. Their desire for power and domination eclipsed any semblance of virtue or morality. They had watched as the so-called heroes paraded through, their lust for glory blinding them to the consequences of their actions.
"You!" the figure's voice echoed through the desolate landscape, cutting through the silence like a knife. "You heroes, with your hollow promises of justice and righteousness. You label anyone who dares to oppose you as villains, but I am more than just an obstacle in your path. I am your ultimate challenge, your final test."
The heroes, caught off guard by the figure's bold proclamation, exchanged wary glances amongst themselves. One of them stepped forward, their voice filled with defiance. "You think you can defeat us? You're nothing but a twisted version of what a hero should be."
The figure chuckled darkly, the sound sending shivers down the spines of those gathered. "Oh, but I am so much more than that. I am the embodiment of your darkest fears, the culmination of your own hubris. And unlike your childish games, in this battle, I will emerge victorious."
With a menacing grin, the figure extended a hand, summoning forth shadows that twisted and writhed at their command. The heroes braced themselves, knowing that this confrontation would be unlike any they had faced before.
As the battle ensued, each clash of steel and surge of power only served to fuel the figure's determination. They fought with a ferocity born from years of resentment and bitterness, their every move calculated to outwit and overpower their adversaries.
"You may have bested others before me," the figure taunted, their voice dripping with contempt, "but you will find that I am not so easily defeated."

i saw your post about all the heroes dying (except for dante) and now im curious
who are the heroes in your rewrite?
I was mostly using it as a placeholder to mean "our main guys and then some" (because let's face it, aphverse has /far/ too many characters for me to just list everyone /hj)
So like, the obvious main people we follow in canon like Aphmau, Garroth (his death was actually mentioned in like very few messages before that one so he's definitely planned >:3), Laurance, Travis, Katelynn, etc etc
More side people are also not shown much mercy, even a lot of the antagonists (excluding like- Shad and the Demon warlock and stuff, they get locked away again and become relevant in the MYS era of the rewrite) end up dying (Zenix's was, also, very recently planner out)
Heroes was probably not the best word to use, but I didn't think I was gonna post it when I sent the message and figured it got the point across to Cam lol 😅

Dragon Ball Z: Abridged Episode 37 Review
Originally posted January 24th, 2016
Without Goku, Team Four Star focuses on their interesting characters.
Tumblr media
Last week I spent a paragraph (justifiably) complaining about Toriyama’s decision to take Goku out of the fight with a bullshit plot contrivance, yet I praised Team Four Star for doing their best to tie the contrivance to character driven humor. I still stand by what I said, of course, but “Catch Me If You Can-droid” has shown me that my complaints may only need to be applied to the plot of the source material, as even without Goku, Team Four Star1 is more comfortable telling their story than ever.
Now, perhaps you could chalk this up to “Can-droid” finally providing the payoff for the androids being ridiculously underpowered, and while that’s certainly a part of it, as all of the tension in the episode comes from whether or not Gero can get away from our protagonists or not, with it immediately fizzling when he is discovered by Gohan, I’d argue that it’s also the result of Team Four Star being relieved at not having to deal with their most uninteresting character and all his associated plot contrivances.
That’s an odd thing to say in an episode that intentionally destroys all of its tension for its other characters, but that lack of tension is earned, as it’s been slowly established over the past few episodes that the androids they’ve been fighting haven’t been nearly the threat Trunks made them out to be.
Goku’s presence, on the other hand, automatically removes any semblance of tension, as the show has now proven twice that he’s guaranteed victory, even in circumstances where by all account he should be dead (see: Muffin Button).2 Not having Goku around means that they’re free to focus on the characters who have to work to achieve the power they do; they’re free to focus on humans instead of a demigod.
And since they’re focusing on humans, Trunks’ arrival and declaration that they’ve been fighting the wrong androids is a gut punch, as the last two episodes have let our protagonists (and us by extension) feel deservedly overpowered only to discover that they didn’t “over train for this,” as they’ve yet to encounter the enemies that are an actual threat. The stakes are immediately reestablished, and it’s at this perfect moment that Gero shows his power is due to his cleverness, as he takes this perfect opportunity to escape and potentially kill Bulma, Yajirobe, and Baby Trunks. Now that Goku is out of the way, shit can finally get real.
Rating: 4.5/5

Stray Observations
1It’s feels odd to call Team Four Star a singular entity, especially as we get further into the series, as I know that Scott “KaiserNeko” Frerichs is responsible for more of the writing, recording, and editing workload than anyone else (I feel decently comfortable saying he’s their equivalent to a showrunner from season 3 onward), but there aren’t any particular credits listed on the episodes, so I can’t really give credit where it’s specifically due.
2Again, not criticizing Team Four Star here, especially since as I mentioned before, they managed to actually imbue tension in Goku’s fight with Freeza. I’m criticizing Toriyama for writing a completely unbeatable character whose victories come by ancient prophecy and plot contrivance, rather than actual developed effort. I am also aware of the end of the Cell Saga, and yes, Toriyama deserves credit for ending it the way he did.
Vegeta: “When a goddamn Super Saiyan asks you for a Senzu you say ‘How many?’”
Vegeta: “Energy sensing is bullshit.”
Vegeta: “Get out here and fight me blindly like a man!”
Piccolo: “Call me the can opener, because I’m about to bust open your metal ass.” Vegeta: “Yeah, how about we leave the one liners to me?”
Domo Arigato is the song playing over the radio in Bulma’s car. I am pleased.
Bulma: “Did you know I never even saw Freeza? Not even once?” Yajirobe: “I’m pretty sure no one ever complained about not meeting Hitler.”
Yajirobe: “Have you ever seen what an all Senzu bean diet does to a man?” Bulma: “What?” Yajirobe: “Korin likes it.”
Piccolo: “That’s the android.” Trunks: “No, it’s not.” Gero: “Yes, I am.”
