Spy vs. Spy is a political cartoon, but it’s not a Political Cartoon. The strip stakes its claim immediately via a single thematic masterstroke—overlaying the blind jingoism and deranged paranoia of Cold War politics onto the endlessly resilient slapstick framework of classic cartoons—and then spends the rest of its existence exploring every facet of that premise by remixing the established formula.
In our latest original feature, Gyasi Hall dives deep into Spy vs. Spy, Antonio Prohías’ iconic MAD Magazine comic strip. Its premise may seem simple, but its revolutionary sensibility has proven impossible to replicate. Click the image (or here) to read the piece.
Spy vs Spy but I'm back at it again with my nonsense.
Ages ago I loved these two as a kid and especially so when MAD came to CN. I somehow got reminded of them recently and had to draw them- with a twist of course :3c
It took far longer than it should have to search for it on the internet, but I managed to find the Spy vs Spy cameo from Hanna-Barbera's mid-1980's MAD animated special. The entire feature was never realeased to the public, but a small portion of it has been uploaded to youtube.
A lil while back on one of the early False Raven posts I tossed out here, a couple people brought up the Alpha Legion as sort of a comparable/semi-related concept.
And while lore-wise they do differ, there are enough parallels in how they operate - I think it would be incredibly funny to see them go at each other. Infiltrator vs infiltrator. Spy vs Spy!
Upright versions & original "beakie" base before I modified them for their respective legions:
