˚✧⁎⁺˳ sfw alhaitham boyfriend headcanons
some sweet boyfriend hcs about the scribe since he’s finally getting released, enjoy everyone ૮꒰ྀི ´ ˘ ` ꒱ྀིა
꒰ a/n ꒱ — some instances in this are inspired by a couple hcs i have written about him in the past!
꒰ genre ꒱ — fluff, gn! reader
Tumblr media
+ ˚ matching rings
for alhaitham, having a sense of bond with his significant other aside from an— already exceptional, emotional connection, didn‘t seem like an item he would‘ve spend nor waste any time on.
though a while later, after one day when he had sauntered through the midst of sumeru city, his eyes had suddenly caught a glimpse of a glowing jewel on a small table, being sold by a vendor from another nation.
it wasn‘t until later when he realised that the ring had a little stone embedded into it which held onto your most favorable color, next to it a larger version of the same product, a little different, but still carrying on the same intensity of beauty.
in the end he decided to buy it for you both, there wasn‘t a specific day or a special occasion that alhaitham had waited for to gift you his little present.
in reality he one day, brought the small gift with him to meet you, at last showing it to you in his large hand, the glow of the radiant stone on top of the golden frame had taken in the grand total of your pure attention.
he was well aware that you liked it, it was clearly written all over your sweet expression, how your eyes had widened in mere seconds, fixed with a certain luminosity of being so utterly grateful to him.
slowly, he rolled the ring on its desired destination and it fit you perfectly, of course it did.
after all, it was him who had your love, had fully acquired it and if he would remember and dwell back on it, alhaitham surely didn‘t regret buying the little gold since it was now an element part of his love for you, you who was his priceless possession.
+ ˚ slow, lazy make out sessions and his love
with the freedom he had obtained due to his job as the akademiya‘s scribe, alhaitham could gather enough spare time for you both to share with each other.
the comfort he sought after a long day was forthwith found in your arms with his head snugly leaning into your warm chest, listlessly paying attention to the low thumps of your heart.
although the two of you would engage in conversation at first, carelessly rattling onto numerous topics that just so happened over the past few hours, it'd aways end with you both getting closer.
for some unexplained reason, alhaitham tried to justify the comfort that consumed him whenever his lips would touch yours. It might have to do something with the dopamine releasing in him, with it setting free euphoric sensations in both his body and soul.
you were so sweet, so soft and squishy when your breathing went a tone lower, worldly wise and at a standstill, you were both relaxing under your touches, the romantic atmosphere that gnawed itself into the air, your surroundings adapting a fire as he gently took your chin in between his thumb and pointer finger, drawing you close just a bit more, a little.
there was no doubt that you have greatly helped him improve in the relationship department, not only with you sharing an intimate, romantic connection but as well as when it came to friendships in its complete glory, to illustrate further as indicated with his colleagues of the sumeru akademiya.
in this moment, you do not speak, neither of you.
it's those nanoseconds where alhaitham would be plagued by words or letters he wouldn't be the best person to speak them out loud, though in his mind, they ran freely and in tandem with his feelings.
i need you by my side, all eternity, i am better because of you, i love you unconditionally, all of you.
+ ˚ reading to you while cuddling
alhaitham had always preferred to stay in with you, to keep a low profile, in a finer way dedicating his time to you.
obviously, some of the books he had stored away in his home could become quite difficult for you to read and although sometimes— alhaitham would explain them to you in great detail, you will not understand a single syllable that was escaping that pretty mouth of his.
yet he was still trying for you and archons:
the way his bright eyes would carefully ghost over each page in concentration, or how he deciphered every definition in his brain, individually breaching out one and all meanings to gather the right one or how he was easily deducting the words with his cleverness.
to say he was cute while being surrounded by his thoughts was an understatement.
yes, it was apparent that as a result of some of the topics he'd try to make you understand, you'd end up falling asleep on top of him, more often than you'd actually prefer to do so.
It's not like you wanted to, also you didn't want alhaitham to feel like he was boring you to death because in truth it wasn't him who did— but the overly tedious subjects at hand specific books would display.
at this, he wouldn't fault you, at all.
meanwhile he had already pleasingly tucked a blanket over your resting frame, gently making sure you were extra comfortable while moving his body only as little as possible so he wouldn't accidentally stir you off your precious slumber.
as for how this day would end, well, alhaitham would continue to page through his book before at last, placing it onto the nightstand, dimming the lights before encircling you in his broad arms, compassionately positioning his head on top of yours and drifting off to a silent, secured doze next to you.
+ ˚ conclusion and alhaitham‘s ways of handling arguments
befitting of his character, alhaitham could become quite difficult to deal with when it came to arguments that would occur just as much as in any other relationship.
it was bound to happen and to him, it was mind numbing.
seldomly he would actively engage in an argument, which wasn't always the best route to take because it was important for both parties in a relationship to be open about their corresponding feelings and emotions.
deep trust was what had defined your relationship, since it was one, if not the most important factor. He was a great listener and once the situation had been properly calmed down alhaitham would appear to go through great lengths to make whatever seemed to had happened, right again.
however, he was quite uncomfortable whenever he witnessed you cry, unmistakably it wasn't in a belittling kind of way, rather did it too, push him into a soul destroying current, masticating him from the inside out.
it was a learning process, a wholly overtaxing one at that, but he did not seek perfection of you and neither did you.
to put it into a different perspective, in the end alhaitham— though it may not always seem this way, did whatever it required for you to be happy again.
he belonged to you just as much as you belonged to him and he wanted, more so desired, to keep it that exact way.
to live a peaceful, tranquil life with his soulmate was something he, no matter what, fancied.
on top of that, he'd make it his top priority to be unconditionally transparent with you, not daring to hide any aspects of his life with you in order for this to work out until the very end.

Goro Akechi Kissing Headcanons
A/N: thanks for the request!!
Warnings: none!
Word count: 394
Tumblr media
he's got a public image to uphold, so not a fan of kissing in public, same goes with most PDA
but sometimes if he sees you in the train station, he'll press a quick peck to your lips or cheek, and then hurry off as if nothing happened
he prefers to be alone with you when showing his love for you, because he likes to keep it private; his work and life is hard and busy, and your one of the few soft comforting things he has in his life
when the two of you do kiss, he is very soft and gentle about it, even after the events of sae's palace (during third semester).
that being said, after sae's palace he kisses you with a sense of urgency, as if all of this is just a dream
he sees you as someone very precious, so he treats you in a delicate manner
his hands ghost your waist, lips barley pressing against yours
its in these quiet moments with you that he blushes, because he truly feels so happy to have you with him
on the inside he's still stuck in the crush stage
his favourite place to kiss you is either your hand, or the top of your head, although he still enjoys kissing your lips
Goro's apartment was quiet, the only sound being the soft noises you made in your sleep.
you had a firm grip on him, arms wrapped around his torso, head nestled into his neck. He could feel your warm breath on his skin, a shiver running down his back.
he wasn't often a gentle person, or a soft one. but he could always make an exception when it came to you. he rubbed small circles on your back, admiring how the moonlight made your small frame look so angelic, skin glowing in the light.
He didn't deserve you. He knew that. Everyday he urged himself to leave, but as soon as he saw your smiling face, those thoughts were thrown out the window.
He was selfish. But you were the only good thing in his life. Surely asking for you to remain with him wasn't so bad, right?
he leaned down to press a kiss to the crown of your head, giving your sleeping form a squeeze.
in the dull light of the moon he could see a faint smile cross the lips of your sleeping form.

(For a lack of asks, I have resorted to posting old drafts ✌️ originally this is what I was writing for @honey-im-hotdog but halfway through I changed my mind 🥴)
Touch - The Twelfth Doctor x Reader
You and the Doctor had confessed your feelings for each other when you two found yourselves facing death. It wasn't a rare occurrence; traveling with the Doctor meant that you faced danger nearly every time you stepped out of the TARDIS. But this time had felt more real, the threat more present, and as the two of you sat tied back to back, in a spaceship flown by a madman on a course into a dying star, you found yourself pouring out your feelings. You thought there was no way that he felt the same way, not in a million years, but he did, and he told you as much, regretful he hadn’t told you sooner and remorseful he’d made you feel that your feelings weren’t reciprocated.
In the end, the two of you found some wild solution, and you were left to travel the time vortex once again. Except there’d been a change. Neither of you were sure what happened now.
Not much of your routine (if you could call it that) changed; the two of you still traveled, and although he hated to admit it, he still worried over you. When the two of you left the TARDIS, he watched you like a hawk. One thing you'd wondered about was touch, seeing as he'd never seemed very comfortable with hugs and physical displays of affection before, and the last thing you wanted was to make him uncomfortable.
As you suspected, he wasn't one for public displays of affection; the most he would do outside the TARDIS was hold your hand, but he did it often. If you two walked anywhere, chances are you were holding hands. In more crowded places, it made him feel a little better, like he was worried that you’d slip away.
In private, he very slowly opened up. It started with short hugs, after a hard day or another kidnapping or doomsday, always brief and soft enough to not make you feel trapped, but very nice. Over time, he would hold you for longer, and before long, he found himself seeking out your hugs whenever he felt stressed or frustrated, which was much more often than he’d care to admit.
You stood next to him by the console and he’d rest his hand over yours, turning over a million questions and puzzles in his magnificent mind and silently asking you to ground him. His touches always felt electric, like there was a foreign sort of static resting underneath his skin. You stood in the light of some new fantastic anomaly, and he’d reach for you in the belief that the only thing that could make this better would be holding your hand, basking in the face of discovery with you by his side.
It quickly became clear that he had trouble voicing his feelings, preferring immensely to simply show you, whether that be through a tiny smile over the console or his thumb tracing what had to be Gallifreyan letters into the back of your hand. You learned to speak his language of small touches and adoring glances, although you told him every chance that you could that you loved him.
He loved the way your face looked framed in his hands as he cupped your cheeks and allowed himself to get lost in your eyes. He hated this regeneration, this body with its incessant lines and stern nature, but he assumed there had to be some good in it, with the way you looked back at him. There had to be some good in it if you loved him.
You’d assumed cuddling would be out of bounds, but as it turned out, as long as he initiated it, he loved to. You’d been sitting together in one of the TARDIS’ many rooms on an enormous plush couch, him reading to you from a book, although what it was about you couldn’t recall to save your life. He’d draped one of his arms over the back of the couch, and you moved a little closer after a chapter. A smile flickered across his face and he beckoned you closer, wrapping his arm around your shoulders and holding you close as he continued to read. From here, you felt so unbelievably warm, like sunlight, and the two of you were reluctant to finally part.
His kisses were always unbelievably gentle, ghosting his lips against your cheek or pressing softly against yours like he was afraid he’d break you. He’d never say it out loud but he was terrified of losing you, and occasionally touching your shoulders or wrapping his arms around your waist or holding your hand was his own way of reassuring himself that you were there. He sometimes thought you were a dream, but he knew his own mind wasn’t kind enough to itself to invent something like you.

chapter 1064—we got ourselves a name
Got ourselves a snow goose!
Tumblr media
Oda running with the marine life theme so many of us have exploited for our fics and head canons, and it feels so damn good.
Tumblr media
Alan D. Wilson, CC 表示-継承 2.5, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=5175665による
It's cold up north. Cold, cold, cold, cold. So, not only can Law do this:
Tumblr media
(cut Stronger in half using Amputate, thereby dislodging Blackbeard and Doc)
to Blackbeard's under-prepared crew on their only slightly upgraded raft boat, Law's crew (namely Shachi)
Tumblr media
can do
Tumblr media
this! Blowing poison apple bombs right back at Doc. I guess that's the equivalent of an Orca's blowhole.
Tumblr media
And, I guess that maybe Oda got tired of the power scalers too. Like, Law's got his high bounty for a reason and it's nice for Oda to show
his crew in action.
Tumblr media
Captain. Must protec!
Tumblr media
(though surely Jean Bart would be a very easy target). So, Law does pull out what was his awakened power (it wasn't Amputate, Teach), and Blackbeard gets pierced (and shocked)
Tumblr media
with Shock Wille, causing Van Augur to chastise him
Tumblr media
and to cause him to use his Law-like powers to rescue Blackbeard. (Blackbeard's downfall will be his carelessness, even though he's obviously doing okay. Master planner up against master impulsive?).
Also, the effects of Shock Wille look a little like directions of some of Doflamingo's attacks.
Van Augur thinks they're under-prepared enough to ask:
Tumblr media
if they should return to the ship, and he elegantly uses his passengers to make his own journey more comfortable too, it looks like. Also, so long as he doesn't fall in the water, he's a good match for Law in terms of being able to find solid ground (with his warp warp fruit).
So, I didn't know Blackbeard had such dedication (we finish what we start! But his crew doesn't have the same conviction). Also, like Big Mom, Blackbeard's going to be a villain that Oda will have fun making look ridiculous (then again, there was that Kaidou skipping rope thing).
Tumblr media
I'm guessing that "Blackbeard's here!" is Bepo or someone else from his crew. Law's getting his Room ready already. He's tactical. BUT, like Blackbeard, maybe a little too much hubris. Law's pulling his Lenin face again.
Tumblr media
Law's crew really is the wrong one to deal with on the ocean, huh? Makes sense. And there were a few meta last week that said that sinking all the devil fruit users wold be the way to go, and what a perfect plan it would be except for
Tumblr media
it doesn't seem that Law knows about Blackbeard's power (which seems unlike Law), or he doesn't know how it works. (As an aside, did he take Boa's power, or did Rayleigh step in just in time?). Or he's just, really, really, worried, cos his big willy just ain't gonna cut it if Blackbeard gets his power or absorbs Law himself. Ahhh. **(Law's powers that spread shock waves and threads and radiation might be able to counter something?)
Tumblr media
And back a few frames—Pudding's on board and just as she doesn't seem to realise about Law and Kid bringing about Big Mom's death (although she said "if" she's alive), Law doesn't seem to know about Black Vortex (Black Gravity?), and Blackbeard doesn't seem to know even the most basic of Law's powers (although, maybe he does and that's why he's got all those devil fruit users (and Pudding) on the boat currently under attack from the Hearts. Devil Fruits are Teach's speciality, after all).
And
Tumblr media
cover page. Kuzan confirmed! Ah, I don't think he's part of SWORD, cos then Punk Hazard probably wouldn't have happened. I read such a good OC/Law story back in the day (2016/17?) on FFN that had Kuzan undercover in the Blackbeard Pirates, and I don't read OC fics much. Loved it. So, Sanji will have to come, because two of his loves will probably end up captured (Pudding already is, but Law, too).
Tumblr media
What do you make of Akainu's words? I can't find mention of Winner Island in the Wiki, but I didn't search too thoroughly. I don't think Law's SWORD either, but might be (the theory's gone out there). Could they be waiting for that? Or Akainu wanted to sweep in on Kuzan? (Guess I should call Akainu, Sakazuki). But there'd be no reason to wait then. Anyhoo, other exciting development is this from the end:
Tumblr media
Vegapunk working with the Revolutionaries. Kuma's backstory (and Bonney's and Vegapunk's and Dragon's get more and more entwined and intriguing). Also!
Tumblr media
stuff like this (Punk Records...or Vegapunk...or why is the first part hidden?) makes me thing that Kid will definitely be relevant some time soon.
Tumblr media
I just love that Oda is utilising all of his SBS drawings and inventing a few more
Tumblr media
(70 year old Luffy—A glimpse at a possible future!). And the other kids
Tumblr media
are alright (@lorillee said that Oda's going boob-crazy cos he had to flatten them for all of Wano in the traditional kimonos, however, I will say, he's not gone as OTT on them as he has in the past. And, yeah, Franky's got on more clothes than Robin.
The pervevication (made up word) really isn't equal for folks that randomly say it is. Put Sanji, Usopp (and later Zoro, Luffy, etc.) in jockey briefs and the equivalent to what Robin and Nami are wearing and then you might have something.
Tumblr media
The other two kids are watching the ship and will rescue someone when the menace becomes apparent (more apparent) later in the arc.
Loved the chapter.

Was thinking about what you said about the likelihood BJ never sees any of them / Hawkeye again, and besides the very interesting cocktail of emotions that idea makes me feel (agreement and denial at war, essentially), it inevitably got me thinking about the Trapper & BJ comparison again.
I think about BJ calling out, I'll see you in the states, I promise! and the smile he wears. and I think the reason it hits so hard is bc in the moment when he says it, he absolutely does mean it? the flush of emotion in those big life moments can make everything seem undeniable e.g. "you mean a lot to me, so of course we will see each other again". but ofc people don't live in those big life moments.
it's so easy to envision BJ finding a way to integrate Korea into the greater lie that is his life (easier to do when it's over, in the past and subject to whatever framing he chooses to give it). the truth he can't face in the moment of goodbye is that it really IS goodbye, that Korea-as-it-was and Hawkeye do not fit in the life he told himself he burned to get back to.
(Hawkeye was so tired, I got the impression he implicitly understood all this about BJ and wearily accepted it even though it hurt -- another way GFA knocked me down; sometimes people are not as strong for the people they love as they'd hope, and sometimes you just have to accept that it's going to hurt and there's nothing to be done.)
With Trapper, I think it is also very likely he never sees Hawkeye again, or at least not for a very long time. But I don't think he ever lied to himself about it; he seemed like a "ripping the bandaid" type. the pain of not seeing hawkeye again is one he is willing to confront and accept (and inflict?)
(...apologies, this didn't end up being as coherent as I'd hoped, I sat down with coffee on my break and started rambling in your inbox lol)
OK FRIEND WE ARE HERE WE ARE QUEER WE ARE (STILL SICK AND RUMINATING OVER YOUR WORDS BUT I GOT ABOUT FIVE HOURS SLEEP LAST NIGHT BUT I THINK THAT BRINGS OUT MY BEST RAMBLES SO!)
"I think the reason it hits so hard is bc in the moment when he says it, he absolutely does mean it" <- oh heck yes, BJ is -- to me -- the character on this show who faces all of this experience the least, including the bits that, despite everything, were good. he's got that increasingly at-odds-with-his-outbursts genial type of "everything will be fine" attitude right up until the last moment we see him.
something about the best lies are the ones we believe ourselves and the things he's going to be slapped in the face with when he gets home, despite knowing that it's not the home he left (also do we think he shaves off the moustache, yay or nay? if he does, I put that down to the commitment to put on the "nice young husband/father/veteran/doctor/community man" man again, for better or for worse, but if he keeps it, I'll assume it's his one concession, because I doubt he'll actually properly talk about anything).
Trapper was weary and pragmatic and (correctly) pessimistic way back in ceasefire (although he allowed Hawkeye to be hopeful for the most part, I like the read that Trapper tries very hard to not bring Hawkeye down, but occasionally how he really feels just slips out), not to mention the way he talked in mail call.
Who was it that said Trapper's speech about the war in mail call is basically Hawkeye's journey's-end by s11, because um... ouch.
I just watched my first Mike Farrell interview yesterday (the first interview I've seen with any cast member except for Alan Alda, and it was very emotional, but at least I didn't tear up as Mr Farrell himself did!) in which he said that he imagines they'll see each other at least once again, and that BJ would "walk across America" to see him -- but then he also added that it wouldn't be same, which was quite a sad little amendment to what until that point seemed like his personal BJ/Hawkeye is end-game headcanon.
Whether or not BJ and Hawkeye do see each other again (and purely geographically, there's a higher chance of Hawkeye bumping into Trapper, especially considering the fact that Charles is in Boston and I like the idea of Charles and Hawkeye getting surprisingly close after the war -- surprising to them of course, they have more in common than they'd admit!) I would love to know (but would be afraid to ask) Mr Farrell what he feels about how they left things, and how that might play into one or two odd reunions.
I've gone deep down a rabbit-hole of thinking about all of this in terms of BJ's issues (and Hawkeye's issues -- I say this over and over again, but was BJ wrong when he felt like he was Trapper's replacement, and to rage against the box he'd been put into that didn't really allow him his own personhood. On a meta sense, if Hawkeye knows they're in a haunted narrative, then BJ specifically is aware that he is Trapper's shadow and he doesn't like it! and I don't think it helped with everything else that was going on) and so the idea of fluffy mutually healing BJ and Hawkeye doesn't really gel with me, because they've hurt each other -- and BJ has really hurt Hawkeye, sometimes in very pointed, somewhat vindictive-seeming ways -- a lot!
But would BJ romanticize it in his head after he got back and real life there got hard to handle (as I imagine it will for him)? Would he smooth out the rough parts and -- who knows -- create outright lies to fix things (in which BJ Hunnicutt creates the ultimate AU) -- he and Hawkeye were the best of friends after all, and he says in their last scene that he doesn't know how he would have made it without him (I cannot go back and look at the wording, I cannot go back and look at that episode yet, I'm not strong enough!) so he's not wrong when he remembers just how important Hawkeye was to him.
The ways in which Hawkeye at times becomes a kind of stand-in for Peg (or, that is, the wife that BJ has in Korea -- I said this in another post, but I want to reiterate that I use "wife" deliberately, because I hc BJ veering wildly between acting with Hawkeye as his male best friend, and BJ treating Hawkeye like his put-upon spouse, because he's just... real fucked up about his actual wife, but then also at times they're a gay couple), versus the idea that Peg could start to be the butt of comparisons to Hawkeye?
I'd have to think about that one some more, now I've just written it. It depends on the Flavour of post-war fucked up BJ.
Anyway, Mike... Mike, care to go into detail about it not being the same? Do you think BJ will be able to live a life of benignly empty oppressive polite middle-class heterosexual suburbia after all of this? Would he just... carry on, living the dream (the dream here being used as in a literal sense that he builds the fantasy to cope)?

Okay, I need to talk about Jancy/Stancy because it's driving me crazy.
I usually have a clear choice in a love triangle. Often it's dictated by narrative, chemistry, and/or specific tropes. But I'm at a loss here. There is no clear choice.
First a look at STANCY:
In one sense Steve/Nancy was set up as first love, which I adore.... but they tried to frame it as maybe not being the most fulfilling relationship... with their emotional needs not being met, mostly due to trauma or lack of development or naivete.
Steve was also framed as an obstacle for Jonathan. While Barb saw Nancy's crush on Steve as a silly, vain infatuation because Nancy would change around Steve. Nonetheless, they had cute moments and good chemistry. With Steve being always ready to protect Nancy, and eventually coming around to learn from his mistakes while Nancy pushes him away out of guilt and grief... I actually started to sympathize with Steve. Most importantly, they've also both grown as characters...
But even with his expanded role as babysitter, even as he became a fan favourite, it really does still feel like his character was made as a love interest for Nancy. His character was literally written into the show and given relevance because of her. He was first made aware of what was going on in Hawkins and learned about the Upside Down BECAUSE of her. So after he and Nancy broke up, he is still fundamentally seen as a romantic lead. I feel like he needs someone. Given that they put a nail in the Robin/Steve casket right away, it looks like there's really no one else he's interested in, which means Nancy, the female romantic lead among the older kids, is the one for him. He never really got over her anyway.
Now I'm lowkey rooting for Steve just as a character to be happy, and it seems like Nancy is the answer... or at least he still believes she is. But even though they've both grown, it might be too late for them (especially if they write them together without enough time to transition). And we have to ask... Does Nancy really want to let herself rekindle those old feelings, when she called it bs and wouldn't even tell Steve she loved him by the end of their relationship? Does she really want the same life Steve wants (I'm assuming the 6 kids doesn't have to be literally 6 kids)? We've really only ever seen them in a relationship as it was falling apart.
Season 4 tried to hint at a possible rekindling, and the chemistry and tension was interesting to watch... But they also have to give Jancy some type of confrontation or admission of a breakup. And the show still hasn't done enough to show what Nancy thinks about that.
Then there's JANCY:
Jonathan was set up as an underdog. I LOVE when the underdog gets the girl instead of the guy who is no good for her. Except Steve wasn't totally the bad guy everyone thought he was. And right out of the gate, Jonathan was pretty much creeping on Nancy. So I didn't immediately root for him because I didn't like s1 Jonathan any better than s1 Steve...
Meanwhile Jonathan's character was also pretty weak and passive. Not necessarily bad traits for a character... especially if the character has other strengths or finds strength in other ways or is forced to rise to meet challenges. He did rise in relation to Will, for the most part. And as he also showed understanding and kindness toward Nancy, slowly I could understand why Nancy might choose him. He seemed safe and reassuring. And although it still felt a little weird, I came around to accepting that he and Nancy were good to each other, and that they had trauma bonded... but I never quite felt like they had as much chemistry.
However, where Steve and Nancy might have had more chemistry, Jonathan and Nancy had the writing on their side. I won't say it was 100% good (compelling) writing. I found some of it rather boring and less than memorable... but it was supportive of them as a couple. Some of it was actually quite sweet and soft and seemed to reinforce that Jancy was supposed to be endgame. But I still never felt super invested in them. Jonathan never quite felt like a romantic lead and never stopped feeling like a loner.
And in later seasons Nancy seems to be moving forward with goals and determination. And Jonathan seems stuck and indecisive. Thwy seem like a fairly grounded couple,, but he seems like the kind of guy she was so scared of getting stuck with... I don't know if that's the type of guy Nancy wants or needs.
I know Jonathan wants Nancy to be happy, but so does Steve. So that's where I'm stuck. Who will make Nancy happier as things stand? Does the narrative really want to retry Stancy now that they are both better people? Can that work? Is Jancy really just going to drift apart just because of college and long-distance and lack of open communication in one instance? Does Nancy really want the passive pothead with no clear dreams or the idiot jock who dreams about having a family with her? She was scared of having a relationship like her parents, full of boredom and resentment... The question is will she be bored with Jonathan or come to resent a family with Steve? Will she decide that a nice quiet life with Jonathan (who may or may not also want kids) sounds good after all the trauma? Will she decide that having a family is actually an adventure she wants in her life?
I can see both options working and failing.

BAD BUDDY FILMING LOCATIONS 5
This post continues my four previous ones (linked here: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3 and Part 4) on filming locations for Bad Buddy. This instalment focuses more on Pran’s Architecture Faculty.
While there were a fair number of locations made to stand in for what they weren't (e.g., service apartments for PatPran's student accommodation, and various places for the Zero Waste Village) Pat and Pran's faculties were actually represented by the engineering and architecture faculties at Rangsit University (RSU).
The location of RSU's Architecture Faculty, representing Pran’s Architecture Faculty at SouthTechnology University is shown in the map below:
Tumblr media
The Faculty of Architecture is one of the newer buildings on campus, and is recognizable by its external orange accents and heavy use of dark, charcoal-gray walls both inside and outside.
Tumblr media
If the building looks familiar, that's because it's been featured in a number of other Thai BLs, including Secret Crush on You, Not Me and Theory of Love. 😍
Perhaps the most iconic BBS scene filmed here was Ep.10's khan maak, and it was staged on the main steps of the RSU Archi Faculty:

In the image above, the gray verticals to the left of Pran are actually tensile cables, while the yellow-brown construction behind him is a 2020 architectural student project (a pavilion made out of corrugated cardboard):

You can see them more clearly in the video below:

The staircase where Pat trails Pran after their shared lecture (Ep.3 [2/4] 1.05) is also in the Architecture Faculty:

The above is an image from Google Maps, taken by Sasin Vibulbandhitkij (Toey) and dated June 2019 (linked here); the dark gray color scheme, door viewing panels, open staircase risers, steel I-beam stringers and wide-spaced staircase balustrades are all a match, although this may not be the exact same staircase – nonetheless what is especially diagnostic is the break in the handrail and balustrade when the staircase railing changes direction at the landing (also visible in the image at the top that shows Pat trailing Pran)
The café where Wai, Safe and Louis tease Pran regarding Pat's anonymous gift of khanom thong yod (Ep.2 [2/4] 3.00) was actually Decons Café, also within RSU's Faculty of Architecture Building:

The above is an image from Facebook (linked here) dated 2 February 2022; except for the potted plants below the counter, this image is a match for Ep.2 [2/4] 3.00 – note the easel signboard, illuminated counter sign, the vertical bars flanking the counter, the rough cast plaster finish of the walls, and the white-framed windows behind the counter
The image below (dated 9 June 2022) is also from Facebook (linked here); for Bad Buddy they used the picnic tables in the background, moved to where the loose tables and chairs are:

Pran's architecture workroom was also located at RSU's Architecture Faculty:

Lastly, the Lecture Theater that Pat and Pran have shared lectures in was also located at RSU's Architecture Faculty.

(above) This Lecture Theater in a photo dated 13 June 2018 from RSU'S Faculty of Architecture Facebook (linked here) is not the same as the one we see in BBS, but the interior has the same details (meaning that PatPran's LT should be part of the same suite, elsewhere in the faculty); corroborating details are the gray walls, two types of seating (one black, one white), as well as wifi routers that match what we see at Ep.3 [2/4] 0.51

That's all for this post – more to come later. As world travel is now opening up, more and more Bad Buddy fans are traveling to Thailand and touring the filming locations – I'll try to get more BBS locales identified and posted so hopefully these posts can help be a guide.
In the meantime, do check out @theriptideaesthetic's Tumblr (linked here) for updates on their trip to visit BBS's filming locations! 😍

I really like your stance Willas×Sansa au especially when she is grown up. One thing made me curious is how would Olenna matter would be solved considering she used Sansa as pawn to kill the king and put her in danger. I think Willas didn't know about it. How do you think situation can be handled?
(about this ask)
I’d have to reread because I know I was unduly influenced by the show last time and they didn’t have all the characters/flesh out the motivations, and now, I can’t remember who was behind what and why. In the show, Olenna is conniving, but in the books she places the blame for some of the nonsense on Mace and it felt to me that she was trying to make the best of a situation she wasn’t really in control of:
"She might think we have some wits about us. One of us, at any rate." The old woman turned back to Sansa. "It's treason, I warned them, Robert has two sons, and Renly has an older brother, how can he possibly have any claim to that ugly iron chair? Tut-tut, says my son, don't you want your sweetling to be queen? You Starks were kings once, the Arryns and the Lannisters as well, and even the Baratheons through the female line, but the Tyrells were no more than stewards until Aegon the Dragon came along and cooked the rightful King of the Reach on the Field of Fire. If truth be told, even our claim to Highgarden is a bit dodgy, just as those dreadful Florents are always whining. 'What does it matter?' you ask, and of course it doesn't, except to oafs like my son. The thought that one day he may see his grandson with his arse on the Iron Throne makes Mace puff up like . . . now, what do you call it? Margaery, you're clever, be a dear and tell your poor old half-daft grandmother the name of that queer fish from the Summer Isles that puffs up to ten times its own size when you poke it."      (ASOS, Sansa I)
I don’t remember the rest of the information we’re given about what she is responsible for, but to me, even though what she did was at Sansa’s expense, it was understandable that she would do it if it meant saving her Margaery. Obviously, framing Sansa is cruel, but if the option is to let a monster have your beloved grandaughter or find a way to kill him, I think most of us would find a way to rationalize that choice. All the same, there is a comparison between Joffrey and Robb’s murder, so the contrast between her/Mace and the Stark morality which is to protect children becomes the takeaway, and we have poor Sansa as an additional victim of her scheming to remind us these actions aren’t without additional victims, and of course, we also have Tommen and Myrcella to worry about. Anyway, I don’t think there is anything to indicate Willas would have had knowledge of her plan. Although, as I say that, as heir, it seems like he would know what his dad was up to?
He heard them cheering outside even before he reached the doors. The mob loved Margaery so much they were even willing to love Joffrey again. She had belonged to Renly,  the handsome young prince who had loved them so well he had come back  from beyond the grave to save them. And the bounty of Highgarden had  come with her, flowing up the roseroad from the south. The fools didn't  seem to remember that it had been Mace Tyrell who closed the roseroad to  begin with, and made the bloody famine. (ASOS, Tyrion VIII)
Not that he could stop it, just…their quest for power has a lot of victims. I do think Martin’s goal is to have characters do thinks that make sense to them and have that in conflict with what’s good for our favs, and at times I think that means he is…more forgiving than we are.
All what we don’t know aside, when writing fic, it’s really easy to work around impossible things. Willas could be written as ignorant because his family knew he wouldn’t accept their actions, but the fact that his family was plotting and doing things and as a result Sansa was targeted...well, that is a nice obstacle in the romance. Sansa can resent it. She could know, assume he knew, and be very cold/closed off and the fic is about falling in love regardless until they have an argument when it comes out and Willas is horrified. He could have believed it was Tyrion and had no idea his family was involved.
Or, you can allow for suspicion from the outset. Willas could think maybe she did poison Joffrey, so he struggles against caring for her because he thinks she’s dangerous, and then the climax of the story happens when he finds out the truth and chooses Sansa over his family, essentially. I mean, I think he’d come to love her even if he believed she killed Joffrey because Joffrey killed her dad so it would be understandable if she did, but of course, she didn’t and, if we’re to believe the characterization we have of him so far, I think he’d certainly disprove of using Sansa in such a way.
The point is, there are lots of ways to spin it for a fic!

29th March 1958 saw the death of Sir William Burrell.
William Burrell, the shipping magnate who amassed a giant art collection and then gave it away, is perhaps both one of the best-known names and least-known characters in Scottish philanthropy.
I first  learned of William Burrell through my mum in the early 80’s, he was born into a shipping family and ran the business with one of his brothers, George after his fathers death.
In 1876 William entered the firm at the age of 15, and on his father’s death in 1885 he and his eldest brother George took over the management. the firm was already prospering, but under their shrewd direction it reached a position of international standing in worldwide tramping and in ship management.
The Burrell brothers undoubtedly had the Midas touch. George kept abreast of developments in marine engineering while William specialized in the commercial side. Their fortunes were based on a steady nerve, foresight and breath-taking boldness. The formula was quite simple. In times of depression they would order a large number of ships at rock-bottom prices, calculating that the vessels would be coming off the stocks when the slump was reaching an end. Burrell and Son was then in a position to attract cargoes because it had ships available and could undercut its rivals. Then, after several years of highly profitable trading, the brothers would sell the fleet in a boom period and lie low until the next slump occurred,  it was a simple idea for them and very shrewd, none of their rivals were brave enough to take the risk and the firm went from strength to strength. It was when the firm were at there peak William became one of the most important collectors in Scotland. His interest in art went back to his youth. While still a boy he was already buying pictures, although he used to say in later years that their chief value lay in the frames.
Although it is not known what sparked off Burrell’s love of art, there were plenty of opportunities in late 19th century Glasgow for him to form his tastes. A number of collectors were to be found amongst the wealthy Scottish industrialists and shipowners of the time.
An estimate of Burrell’s early interests can be obtained from his loans to the Glasgow International Exhibition of 1901, when he was the largest single lender with more than two hundred works. Their range and scope show that he was already a collector of major standing. They included medieval tapestries, ivories, wood and alabaster sculpture, stained glass and bronzes, Roman glass, 16th and 18th-century Dutch, German and Venetian table glass, silver, furniture and Persian rugs. The paintings are by too many artists to mention here without it looking like a shopping list, but Whistler, Manet and Monticello were among his purchases.
Between 1901 and 1911 little is known of Burrell’s collecting, apart from his acquisition of some fine pictures, including his first Degas. Unfortunately, at the same time he was selling as well as buying, a policy he was to continue even after the sale of the fleet had removed any major financial restrictions on the scale of his spending on art. In 1902, for example, he sent nearly forty pictures for auction, and among those sold were paintings by Daumier and Manet which are now in the United States.
From 1911 until 1957 Burrell kept detailed records of his expenditure in twenty-eight school exercise books. He made almost all the entries himself, except during the last few months when failing eyesight compelled him to delegate the task to others. These purchase books are an invaluable record of the astounding range and scale of his collecting. Although the entries tend to become more detailed as the years go by, the basic format was established on the first page of the first book. There are separate columns for date of acquisition, description, from whom the item was acquired, its price, date of delivery, insurance and whether photographed. The last column is headed “All in Order” and usually has Burrell’s initials.
Burrell was never an easy client. He was strong-minded, liked to haggle over prices and could be very cautious., well what would you expect from a canny Scot! Even dealers with whom he had done business over some years would find him seeking a second opinion on an object they were attempting to sell him. His collection is only bettered by some of the major museums across the British Isles.
Until about 1930 Burrell seems to have been buying merely for his personal enjoyment, with no thought of forming a collection which would be kept together after his death. Until then he continued to sell or exchange paintings, but in the 1930s he formed the idea not only of having a permanent collection but of handing it over to public ownership. Burrell had discussions with a number of interested parties regarding the disposal of the Collection, and eventually, in 1944, it was donated to Glasgow, the city of his birth and centre of his business activities, in the names of himself and and his wife.
A few years later he gave the then Glasgow Corporation £450,000 for the construction of a building in which the Collection was to be housed and displayed. The terms of the Deed of Gift as regards this building, however, presented difficulties. Burrell stated that it should be within four miles of Killearn in Stirlingshire and not less than sixteen miles from the Royal Exchange in Glasgow. He felt that the Collection would appear to best advantage in a rural setting and was also deeply concerned at the harm which could be caused by the high levels of air pollution then prevailing over Glasgow. The councillors and Corporation officials were aware of the problems in, firstly, finding a suitable site and then in administering a museum so far removed from the city, but attempts to persuade Burrell to make his conditions less stringent met with little success. Various sites were considered, but the issue was still unresolved at the time of Burrell’s death. It was only nine years later, in 1967, when Mrs Anne Maxwell Macdonald presented Pollok House and estate to the City of Glasgow, that a site was at last found.
Sadly, he did not live to see them in the gallery in Pollok Park, where they form such an important feature. He died at Hutton Castle on 29th March 1958, at the age of 96.
A design competition for the museum building in 1971 was delayed by a postal strike, allowing time for the eventual winning architect  Barry Gasson. I have no idea why it took so long to actually get it built, but it’s size was maybe a factor. The building is the second largest post war building in Scotland, the abandoned St  Peter’s Seminary at Cardross being the largest. The Burrell Collectioned opened it’s doors in 1983.  So far, more than 1.3 million people have visited exhibitions
The Burrell Collection closed to the public in October 2016 in order to embark on a programme of refurbishment. It was reopened last year, after covid caused delays.

Putting on Hairs - Post Production: Salamander Fireworks
Primary Pairing: NicoMaki Mentioned Pairing: AiRina Rating: G Words: 339 AU: Theater, Monsters, Cryptids Fandom: Love Live, Love Live Nijigasaki Parent Fic: Putting on Hairs - Post Production Time Frame: Sometime after the main story Event: Promptober 2022 Event Source: Idol Fanfic Heaven channel on Discord Prompt: Fireworks Content Warning: Playing with fire, literally
---------
Author’s Note: Bonus 3rd entry for Oct 17th
Summary: Nico wants in on the supernatural fireworks
---------
“Maki-chan! Maki-chan!”
“Mm?” The named redhead turned to see a shorter, raven-haired woman rushing toward her.
“I just heard from Setsuna and some of the others, they used her fire powers last night to set off fireworks last night!”
“So now you want to have me do the same.”
“Obviously! Maki-chan knows how much Nico lo~ves her fire skills.”
Maki did know her girlfriend appreciated the warmth she was able to provide. And the light, on a few occasions, although they could both see well enough in the dark. Of course, she was also well aware of the fact that when Nico was overtly complimenting, it meant she wanted something. Something Maki may be reluctant to give otherwise. But lighting fireworks was easy. She’d don’t it many times on her own or with her parents or their house staff.
“What are you leaving out, Nico-chan?”
“Whatever do you mean, Maki-chan?”
Maki narrowed her eyes.
“Well, apparently, Setsuna dissolved a bunch of stuff in her mouth and would spit through a straw to make the firework.”
“Yeah, I’m not going to do that.”
“But Maki-cha~n!”
“I refuse.”
---------
She gave in.
Nico first convinced Rina to make what were basically tiny potato guns. Except that instead of filling them with gas then igniting it, Maki would fill the enclosed chamber, through the metal, with her flame until a pressure valve would release it. A burning grain of metal salt would then be shot out the end and Maki would cause it to detonate once it reached a decent height, thus creating a small firework.
Then Nico pulled her trump card, her siblings. She knew full well Maki had a hard time telling them no.
So here they were, gathered in a park, playing with supernatural fireworks. Nico, Ai and Cocoa were chasing each other with sparklers while Cotaro sat quietly, watching the show being put on by Maki. Rina busied herself filling the firework canons which Cocoro dutifully delivered to Maki.
Maki had to admit, this was actually pretty fun.
---------
Author’s Note Continued: Rushed this one a bit to get it posted before the deadline for the event; on the Discord server, not here or AO3. As such, I will most certainly come back to this one later and expand on it.

Eeeeh, here I am again. Now I'm talking about Jake in episode 3. There isn't much to say actually, I think. At first we see that Steven tries to verbally stop Marc, then he takes the body and Marc finds himself in a taxi, super confused, so then he goes back to chase the informants. Jake comes out because Steven was getting more and more troubled by the violence, worried and agitated, and Marc had stopped killing, and he was there, indecisive and impatient, listening to Steven, and then they were surrounded and hit in the head and later by a punch, so it's normal for Jake to jump forward to take control. Jake is kind of like Peter's spider sense, hahaha. The only thing that he left me confused is: why did they find themselves in a completely different place? I tried to imagine and I suppose those guys kept running away, maybe stealing cars, and maybe Jake followed suit to chase them. In fact, when Marc regains control he is on a precipice but there were cars around. Even if only old and run-down cars are shown, but I doubt that they got there on foot, maybe the cars that had used to take them there were further away from the shot, or boh, I doubt that Jake used his costume even if I so much wanted to see it, too bad. It reassured me that the little boy, despite being a criminal, had not been fatally injured, perhaps just a light beating. Great job Jake. XD No, I'm serious, at least they don't show him as a ruthless type, because he's also a reasonable man. Moving on to episode 4 I don't have much to say even in this one except that they just should have to open the sarcophagus. Only one thing they had to do, I hoped. Ah! It continues to be obvious to me that if all three hearts had been placed on the scale, all three would have gone into the Aaru field. Most likely they couldn't because then they would have stretched the plot too much, because, maybe Jake has memories, but we don't know which ones, we don't know if he shares the same with others and then Marc and Steven don't have Jake's memories, and maybe they should have review the memories of all three but we were already in episode 5 and they could not take such a risky step, risking to ruin everything. Which is understandable although I regret not knowing about Jake. :C Oh, another interesting thing, in episode 5 there is a scene of Marc in front of his house for his funeral, but it seems to me there has been a change of personality, I suppose. Still in my opinion but hell it's obvious, well, because there was a damn taxi there, huh? It cannot be a coincidence, it cannot and if it is I do not accept it. Then I realized I'm in London and the cabs are black there, damn it. (At least I think they're in London, but I don't think because Steven on the phone says they're driving the wrong way.) But that doesn't mean anything, maybe the bordeaux car is Jake's, likely, isn't it? The father went to the window, perhaps because he saw a car he parked. It would be plausible, huh. At first I thought that Marc had come in the burgundy car, but then he goes the other way on foot. But then I realized the cab is passing Steven, possibly because Jake came in the cab. In fact, then Marc and Steven are framed and the yellow car is no longer behind them, ergo, it was the taxi, ergo I'm not in London. (?)
But I still think it was Jake who brought them there, maybe Marc couldn't go and then it was Jake who entered. Maybe it was Jake standing drinking in front of the house? Because he has a different frown and dark look than Marc has, and then he drinks from a flask. Actually it could also be normal, Marc hated and loved his mother, he was sad about her death but he was also mad at her, so maybe Marc was drinking there to let off steam, but no, I can't believe Jake wasn't there, Jake has certainly suffered from Wendy's funeral too. In the same way as Marc, Jake certainly took control when the physical pain was too much for Marc, so he must have hated and loved his mother as well as Marc. Or maybe he just hated her, Jake, but he loves Steven and Marc so he brought them home for the funeral since Marc couldn't take it; and then when he leaves on foot it's because he makes a change of body with Marc for the control. I mean, I also put the photos above huh, the frown could be Marc's as it could be Jake's. Jake is part of the system, he grew up with them, he must have been in that scene, because it's an important moment for all three of them.
Maybe he didn't love Wendy, but maybe he thought Marc and Steven wanted to go and so yeah, for me it was Jake who brought them there, come on, and Marc was too upset with grief to notice. Why didn't they show us Jake, damn. T_T
Another idea I got is that I think Marc wanted to go to the funeral but he couldn't bear the weight of the pain and the anger, it was too much so it was overwhelmed Jake, who took a taxi and went to the funeral. The reason could be that Jake wanted to help Marc deal with the pain, to accept what had happened, I think, but then obviously he doesn't enter because Jake, towards his mother, has a stronger hatred than Marc's, so he takes the flask of whiskey and starts drinking, and then when he starts walking he spoke with a tone and a look that didn't seem to belong to Marc, saying something like "No, I won't. I won't give you that satisfaction.". And that made me think it was more Jake. Jake is the protector, he must have seen Marc and Steven grow up from afar, only intervening to help them, so he loves them, he cares about them, and the relationship that Jake must have with his mother, for me, must have been only one of hate and anger. I'll explain. Jake was probably the one who suffered when Marc could no longer stand the beatings, which perhaps over time had become more and more violent. Or rather, maybe it worked with Marc who took physical and mental pain even when he let Steven overtake him who in fact did not notice it because he dissociated himself when his mother beat him, but Marc no, it was there that he observed everything from a distance, so maybe when they both reached their maximum, their limit (Yes, because Steven didn't notice, but in the long run, during the beating he took with ease, there was a risk that he might open his eyes out of the blue, certainly Steven had a limit too, he could pretend up to a certain point, but then he had to run away from all that torture to catch his breath, and so Marc created Jake, or maybe Steven himself created him unconsciously), and so Jake ran to defend them, taking all the rest of the pain and giving his alters a well-deserved break. So, if Steven had an illusory and heavenly view of the world, and Marc had the harsh reality and guilt gripping him but he clung to Steven's lightheartedness for a living; Jake must have taken only his mother's hatred, then clung to Marc and Steven to stay lucid. The memories that Jake must have towards Wendy are only of her beating them, as opposed to Marc who also possesses his memories of her mother when, before her brother's death, she was loving and kind; so Jake just hates his mom. So when he's at the funeral, it's Jake who walks away and says those words, "I'm not going to give you that satisfaction", really I think and hope it's him saying it and not Marc, because it makes sense. Marc felt guilty, he kept blaming himself for everything, so at most he might not want to go into the house because he didn't feel worthy to say goodbye to his mother because he believed he was the one who reduced her like that, because Marc always has thought it was his fault and that he deserved that pain; but Jake instead felt the exact opposite, which is that their mother didn't deserve their last farewell after everything she had done to them, and so the sentence he says about her makes sense. And in fact Jake walks away, and then Marc comes in, collapsing in tears of pain, unlike Jake who was just frowning and angry. As always, they are only hypotheses of course, if you do not agree please tell me your thoughts. :3 Obviously I don't know much about DID, so if I said something wrong I apologize and you guys correct me, I'm learning.

I’m getting tired of consuming some kind of media (book/movie/tv show/etc), really enjoying it, and heading online to see what others are saying about it only to find more than a few incredibly negative reviews or comments or whatever. A lot of the time they’re not even good criticisms. I’ve seen a lot of people complaining that an animation style is bad, or that they can’t empathize with any of the work’s characters, or that the work executed ‘x’ trope badly (although this one is usually phrased “‘y’ work did ‘x’ trope better” as a recommendation for a better version or “just another ‘x’ or ‘y’” in a derogatory manner of those works).
I think my overarching problem with most of these is that they’re picking something they didn’t like about the work and then arguing that because they didn’t like it, it’s bad. Which is almost hilariously untrue.
Let’s take the Gokushufudou anime as an example. (No spoilers.) It’s almost completely comprised of still frames, with minimal movement (with a couple exceptions). It feels pretty much like having someone flip the pages of a book. When I first realized what was going on, I was really excited because I hadn’t ever seen an anime do something like that. Then I went online. Nearly all of the people talking about it were calling the animation ‘lazy’, ‘disgusting’, or ‘difficult to look at’. I was crushed that so many people disliked what I had found so interesting.
I maintain that Gokushufudou’s animation perfectly fits the comedic storytelling. But even if those complaints were right and it was just laziness, it was still something I enjoyed.
How about Kanata no Astra? (No spoilers.) I’ve seen more than once that the characters were cardboard cutouts, or that there was no real danger, or that everything was just too convenient. Okay, well: it’s incredibly difficult to introduce, expound upon, give backstory to, and create interactions between a lot of characters in a given setting. Especially when you only have 12 episodes to do it. I personally think that Kanata no Astra did very well with the time it had.
Plus, define ‘real danger’. Did you want a couple characters to die to show how ‘severe’ and ‘serious’ the show is? Because... it’s not. It’s not the show’s fault that you thought it was going to be darker or something.
Finally, the thing that peeves me the most: people saying that something lacks originality or is “just another ‘x’ or ‘y’ work”. First of all, ‘nothing new under the sun’ and everything. Second... retellings of similar stories are pretty much my favorite thing ever. Why do we have so many adaptions of the same tropes and schemes? Because we love them. Seems dumb to say a work is bad for using a familiar setup or execution.
What I think all of this boils down to, really, is that a lot of people are losing the ability to enjoy simple stories. They want every kind of media that they consume to be rife with complicated backstories or plot. But works with a simple storyline are not inherently bad. In fact, they’re one of my favorite ways to decompress from books, movies, or tv shows where Something Is Happening, All The Time.
Now, let me clarify. I’m not saying people aren’t allowed to dislike certain media. It’s impossible to like literally every entertainment shown to you. The issue is that people will dislike something about some type of media and immediately take to forums or comment sections to lay out exactly why it was “bad”, when it really wasn’t.
If you cannot empathize with the work’s characters, chances are it wasn’t made for you. Which is apparently a novelty to some people, that not everything was made for their enjoyment or their entertainment. There are definitely valid reasons to label a work bad--like when it belittles or insults a group of people, though that’s not the only example I can think of--but “I hated the storytelling/characters” isn’t one of them. That just means that you close the book, shut off the tv, and go find something else.
Isn’t it difficult to enjoy any kind of media when you go into it expecting, like, a marvel movie? There are so many different ways to tell stories, to introduce characters, to build moments that are cool, touching, or sad. You’re missing a lot when you go into it expecting it to cater to you instead of show its own style.
I’m sure others have said it better, but I need to say it for myself, too. Let’s start enjoying simple things again. I think a lot of people lose the fun of seeing a new movie when they immediately start looking for plot holes or poor writing. Like, if people had fun making this, why can’t we have fun with it too?
I promise it’s so much more freeing just to enjoy consuming media than to complain about it.

pretty girl ➜ b.barnes

Pairing: bucky barnes x female!reader
Word Count: 746
Warnings: fluff, fluff and fluff
Prompt: forehead kisses while you sleep
⋅ ˚̣- : ✧ : – ⭒ ⊹ ⭒ – : ✧ : -˚̣⋅ .. ⋅ ˚̣- : ✧ : – ⭒ ⊹ ⭒ – : ✧ : -˚̣⋅
Bucky Barnes was once commonly known around the Avenger’s compound as the grumpy 106 year old with no smile, at least until you came along.
You were a new recruit to the avengers team, a skilfully trained assassin that Tony found whilst on a mission in Budapest. Everyone on the team warmed up to you quickly, most compared you to a ray of sunshine that would light up the room. You were especially close with Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson, as the pair gravitated toward your positive energy early on. It was almost as though they felt the urge to preserve your innocence and shield you from all the hatred in the world. Everything was well and good with Steve and Sam, although their super solider friend didn't seem to take the same liking to you. Bucky constantly had a frown on his face and although it may sound strange, it made you more eager to talk to him.
Everybody on the team wanted to protect your feelings, telling you things like “don’t worry about Barnes, he doesn’t talk to anyone” or “he’s just shy, ignore him.” You personally failed to believe anyone could be so shy that they isolated themselves, so from that day forward you made it your personal mission to get Bucky Barnes to trust and open up to you.
Bucky noticed what you were trying to do, and he tried to ignore you. Although you ended up being so easy confide in that he found ignoring you utterly impossible. He enjoyed the fact that he could tell you anything about his past and you wouldn’t judge him. You didn’t have a stigma toward him because of his past as the Winter Soldier, he even overheard you in the kitchen one morning telling Natasha how you thought his metal arm is “sick.” You became Bucky’s favourite person. The 106 year old man found himself getting butterflies at the thought of walking out to the living room to see you. Steve and Sam took notice, feeling fondness over the fact that their friend was finally happy after all the painful years he spent locked up, being tested on by machines. They noticed the way he would linger in the living room, looking around like a lost puppy waiting for you to return. They noticed how he made an exception to you calling him by his first name, smiling fondly when you would. Bucky was head over heels for you, everyone believed you were made for each other.
⋅ ˚̣- : ✧ : – ⭒ ⊹ ⭒ – : ✧ : -˚̣⋅ .. ⋅ ˚̣- : ✧ : – ⭒ ⊹ ⭒ – : ✧ : -˚̣⋅
It was a lazy Sunday afternoon, the compound was busy as no missions were scheduled for the day. These were Bucky’s favourite days, the ones where he felt normal and at peace. He looked to his left and took note of how you were cuddled into the corner of the living room couch, a blanket over your snoring frame. He let out a soft laugh, dimples showing as he smiled at the sight. How did I get so lucky? He thought to himself. He shifts over to your huddled figure and presses his lips to the side of your head, feeling at peace as he watches you. When he pulls away, he looks up to see Sam entering the room. He has a grin on his face, resulting in Bucky rolling his eyes at his expression.
“You’re whipped Buck” he chuckles quietly, not wanting to wake you.
“How can I not be? She’s perfect.” Bucky gazes at you, his eyes full of nothing but love and adoration for you. Little did he know, you have been awake since he kissed your cheek, taking in every word he said. You slowly open your eyes, looking over at your lover.
“I think you’re perfect too James.” you giggle at his startled face, sitting up to kiss him on the lips. Sam suddenly makes fake coughing sounds at your sudden display of affection.
“Pda! Pda! Wow Barnes, get a room!” He yells in a joking manner. Bucky lets out a loud laugh at his friend’s words, the sound is music to your ears every time you’re lucky enough hear it. He reaches for your hand and the cool feeling of the metal relaxes you.
“Wanna go get something to eat, pretty girl?” he asks. You smile at the pet name and hum in response, standing up and walking to the kitchen, hand in hand.
Bucky truly believed he would never love again, then you came along.

Inspired by a recent question...
10 BLs Most Like Their Yaoi Roots
So I’m picking my favorite BLs that are not necessarily yaoi adaptations, but instead reference origin tropes, archetypes, interpersonal dynamics, setting, and filming techniques.
Seven Days (Japan) - OF COURSE IT’S FIRST. Japan’s faithful story adaptation of the original manga of the same name (and possibly my favorite BL of all time), although the 2 movies actually use more yaoi framing and style in their live action than appear in the original manga. It’s the opposite case for the semi/uke dynamic, which is much stronger in the manga. Still, there’s very very little wrong with this adaptation. It’s damn near perfect.
Semantic Error (Korea) - I haven’t read the original webtoon but I can tell you this is a pristinely flawless yaoi brought to life. Every trope is perfectly hit but not stressed, and occasionally subverted. It is the best that Korea can do with this genre in its purest form. Without question.
Color Rush (Korea) - if Semantic Error is perfect uncut primal yaoi, Color Rush is what happens when it gets experimental and discovers complex story structure. There were a few manga’s back in the day that managed this, although it’s definitely the exception not the rule. Story structure and high concept are not yaoi’s strong points and most webtoons have only made this worse. Color Rush figured out how to hit it out of the park short form and using every yaoi filming technique in the book. It’s a masterclass in style and substance (chemistry = not so much, but then, that’s were a lot of sweet yaoi failed back in the day, too.)
Light On Me (Korea) - Korea does high school yaoi in a VERY Korean way but never forgetting the style and color palette of the source material. It’s a beautiful cinematic journey, but while the framing and staging is on point, it’s wardrobe and lighting that carries this show beyond.
Utsukushii Kare AKA My Beautiful Man (Japan) - this is actually what a lot of early yaoi was like to read - rough going, hella kinky, questionably queer, pushing borders of consent and bullying and messing with our minds/hearts because of the ache behind all the fuck ups. I consider the second half of this BL an absolute masterpiece, but I was raised that way.
Cherry Magic AKA 30 Years of Virginity Can Make You a Wizard AKA 30-sai made Dotei Da to Mahotsukai ni Nareru rashii (Japan) - the one that pulled Thai BL fans back into Japanese BL. This is soft. This is the light side of yaoi that we used to only get from those 1990s innocent high school set short runs, like Desire. You remember those? Anyway, this one took that and informed (I think) by the success of Ossan’s Love set a sweet BL in the office with a magical realism component and two incredibly charismatic leads. Like Ossan it also got a long treatment (for Japanese BL) and we are all extremely grateful.
Cherry Blossoms After Winter (Korea) - everything about this show is monumentally traditionally yaoi from the height difference, to the on screen behavior, to the backstory and emotional journeys of the characters. It touches on old school themes like stepbrothers and cohabitation, uncontrolled urges and irresistible cuteness. The filming style is more atmospheric than framed, but that only adds to the nostalgic feel.
Kieta Hatsukoi AKA Vanishing My First Love AKA My Love Mix Up (Japan) - the cringy cheesy chibi slapstick side of yaoi brought to blatant, lurid, and endearing life. These characters are cartoons of themselves, but so earnest about it. It watches like anime in terms of performance and plot (if not filming style), full of hijinks and very lovable characters.
Cutie Pie - Thailand finally (and very consciously) tackled yaoi. I talk about the fact that Thai BL is, generally, one of the least likely to reference Japanese manga, because Thailand has a different history with the genre. But with Cutie Pie they really went old school - story, style, characters, filming, framing... everything. Some Thai BL stans found this shocking, but if you’ve watched any Japanese BL or read any yaoi, you were probubly pretty delighted with this one rather than surprised. I definitely had a sensation of “finally.” I think it’s the content but also, in large part, the director.
Love Stage!! - The Thai version is a great adaptation, but it is a very Thai interpretation. It doesn’t bother with the staging or filming style, for example. It’s an imposition of Thai BL’s style, aesthetic, modern treatment, and brightness, onto a yaoi manga series that happens to be particularly suited to a synergy. It is interesting to compare it to the Japanese live action version which, IMHO failed in all ways except style. I like Thailands Love Stage!! for what it managed to do: traditional yaoi content in an entirely modern Thai BL way. (But please don’t let Thailand get ahold of Given.)
Others of interest:
Risutato wa tadaima no ato de AKA Restart After Come Back Home
This is filmed in classic Japanese high cinematic style (think more Kurosawa than slapstick) and so it seems to not come from a yaoi at all. Other BLs done this way include His the movie, and Life: Love on the Line. These are all good, but stylishly they are pretty removed from yaoi.
HIStory 3: Trapped
This is the closest Taiwan has ever come to a yaoi manga adaption, it isn’t one, but it makes no case for it. Even the quirks in the hair are there. It reads a lot like a really well done late 90s style yakuza yaoi (without the kink but with the high heat) and the filming style is almost there. Certainly all the tropes are present, and the side couple has a standard seme/uke dynamic.
There is also the documockery Zettai BL ni Naru Sekai VS Zettai BL ni Naritakunai Otoko AKA Absolute BL AKA A Man Who Defies The World of BL parts one and two. It is informed by and doing a pastiche of a lot of the reasons I chose my top 10. And if that sentence sounded meta, it’s because it is.
Can I Get a Do Over?
Love Stage!! has spoiled me.
Given redone by Korea
This was Japan’s BL to lose, and they lost it. It’s not terrible, but it’s not good either. I think Korea should get a crack at it. They have the talent and they have the music industry and they could make this one work real well if they gave it a slightly longer treatment, like Light On Me, and made it an indie Kpop band/thing, like Wish You staring idols.
Silhouette of Your Voice AKA Hidamari ga Kikoeru AKA I Hear the Sunspot redone by Thailand
Almost no one knows that Sunspot got an adaptation. And the live action actually starts out really well. It almost got there but sort of ended prematurely or something? Anygay, it’s a truly GREAT manga series that could really be served by a Thai approach. Longer form, university set. It’s something Thailand doesn’t tackle normally either, broken seme with a disability. It’s almost TinCan esk, this dynamic, although the seme is more depressed and withdrawing from society than just a spoiled rich arse. All that to say, this could be really really good if handed out to a pair that could handle the nuance. So... someone like OhmFluke.
Docchi mo Docchi AKA Same Difference redone by Taiwan
Japan’s most direct and faithful manga adaptation. This 2014 movie is a manga brought to life in every way, it’s practically a storyboard. All they did was cut out the sexy bits which it turned out were... erm THE STORY. This choice drastically effected our understanding of plot is some really weird ways and caused the whole thing to fall apart. Just hand this off to Taiwan. They keep doing office set stuff these days anyway, they would do a GREAT job with an actual story structure to follow.
I also really want MaxNat to do a redo of Cherry Blossoms After Winter just to see more of those two characters and to get a long form adaptation of that series. I think it would suit them (and Thailand) perfectly, and with the possible exception of Lovely Writer, Thailand really hasn’t given us much of the stepbrother trope. I want them to go there.
This post as of April 2022, more may come but Tumblr may not let me update this. So if you have some to add, leave a comment.

I know the hobbit movies make a big deal about how angsty teen Legolas is and completely screwed his relationship with his dad Thranduil. But whenever I read the Lord of the Rings I cannot help but think: my goodness, but Thranduil must have really spoiled Legolas rotten.
We first meet Legolas at the Council of Elrond. He is dressed simply and for light travel, and does not choose to wear his title as a Prince, instead identifying himself as a messenger from Thranduil, his king. Indeed he often chooses to call Thranduil his king rather than his father, which many have taken as a sign that relations between the two are strained.
However, I propose the direct opposite - that his many mentions of Thranduil as his Elven-Lord demonstrates not only his love for Thranduil, but also his respect and admiration of what a great king his father is for his people.
Consider this: whenever he mentions Thranduil or Mirkwood it is always with warmth and a subtle longing. He doesn't ever speak of his home in anything other than good terms, even if it has been marred and fallen into becoming Mirkwood (as opposed to Greenwood the Great).
And it isn't just to maintain pride in front of outsiders. When you contrast the way Boromir speaks of Gondor and his father the steward Denethor, to the way Legolas speaks of Mirkwood and Thranduil, it becomes clearer. Boromir is proud of his family, country and heritage and boasts of it. He claims Gondor is the main protector of Middle-earth, and that they have been fighting Mordor the hardest. But deep down he is questioning his father's rule, and is uncertain of Gondor's future.
Legolas is almost the opposite. He doesn't ever boast of his country, although Mirkwood, just like Gondor, is right at Mordor's doorstep. Instead he shares with the company personal anecdotes that show (not tell) exactly how good life is there despite the Shadow. He doesn't waver in his believe of his people's strength; indeed only he and Aragorn could face Galadriel without any fear or hesitation.
I think the reason why Legolas always mentions Thranduil as a king or lord is not because he doesn't want to acknowledge Thranduil is his father. It is that Legolas is so in awe of Thranduil and so respectful of him that whenever he is mentioned Legolas' first thought is not 'that's my dad and we're related', but instead is 'that's my king and my hero and he's so awesome'.
He doesn't consciously mention Thranduil as his father because his mind frame is not to introduce the company to Thranduil the way you would introduce your friends to your parents. He doesn't want them to think of him as just a nice uncle who is the father of a friend.
Legolas introduces Thranduil as his king because he wants the company to respect him as such, as the ruler of a great country who has done great deeds. He wants the company to see Thranduil as someone in-charge, as someone who is capable and should be given the proper courtesies accorded to him.
Some may question, in that case why doesn't Legolas call him 'my father the king'? It would highlight both Legolas' relationship to Thranduil as well as Thranduil's kingship.
I think this has to do with the circumstances as well as Legolas' humble personality. It is true that he doesn't ever make a big deal out of being prince, but at the same time this title means nothing much in the fellowship company. There is Aragorn, who would be king of Gondor. Boromir, eldest son of the ruling Steward of Gondor. Gimli, cousin of Balin who is the Lord of Moria. Gandalf, member of the Istari and councilor of many kingdoms. Peregrin, son of the Thain of Shire. Meriadoc, son of the Master of Buckland. Frodo, heir to Bilbo and a celebrity (of sorts) of the Shire.
Virtually everyone in the fellowship had a title (except Sam) and there is really no point in highlighting it among themselves when it doesn't matter. The only time where Legolas being Prince of Mirkwood would matter is when meeting other elves or when meeting allies of Mirkwood (like Dale for example). In which case in the former, Legolas being son of Thranduil is more than enough recognition for Elrond and Celeborn (as both of them were Sindar elves, and thus kin of Thranduil). And for the latter there wasn't any opportunity to do so.
Thus Legolas not mentioning the king is also his father is his way of downplaying his title as Prince, something which signifies his humility as well.
Finally, what makes me certain that Thranduil is a very caring father is Legolas' personality itself. Galadriel mentions that Legolas had always lived in joy, and this is very evident throughout the book.
In the entire journey, Legolas is shown to never despair. The only moment of fear was when he saw the Balrog (a famous elves bane) but otherwise he was also never fearful. This is despite the overwhelming circumstances the company finds themselves in. He always sees the bright side in every situation, frequently makes jokes and funny quips, and is in an overall joyful mood.
From the Hobbit, we learn that this cheerful outlook is shared by the Mirkwood elves, regardless of the growing Shadow. The only person who was affected at all was Thranduil himself, who was always wary of Mordor rising again. But he took careful pains to never affect his people, and they were always in good spirits despite the war that was happening.
I think Legolas was very well loved as a child, and always carefully sheltered. Not from the horrors and realities of war like death and destruction (because we can see he is a very capable warrior). No, he was instead sheltered from the despair and sorrow that would normally accompany death and destruction.
Legolas would see death and elves dying in battle, and Thranduil would tell him of the halls of Mandos and how death is just a path back to the Valar. He would look at the destruction of the woods and the land, and Thranduil would tell him it is like the passage of winter, but spring would come and the land would flourish again.
Legolas would have grown up knowing that even though bad things are happening, good things are still to come, and that's why he always has such hope in him and such joy. Unlike the mortal lives of Men and Dwarves, Elves are immortal and they can afford to wait for the end of the Shadow. There is no hurry, and because Mirkwood is untouched by any of the Rings, they don't need to worry about the power of the Three fading.
Legolas is happy and joyful because he is beloved, and I think that is a consequence of Thranduil's nurturing personality. It just makes much more sense when you compare him to the other characters who had lost both parents (Aragorn and Eomer), or had a stern and demanding father (Boromir and Faramir).
Legolas remains unchanged for the most part at the end of the journey because he was already in such a good place to start with. I think that is quite a comforting thought.
