I know that fandom often clowns on this statement
Tumblr media
from Law (about needing to take down monsters to learn about history), taking it as proof that he's somehow not fighting for freedom or that
Tumblr media
freedom of expression is not something important that has been sanctified ratified in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights:
Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers. (Article 19)
But that it is instead some nerdish pastime that no other character in One Piece or the real world is invested in (WG or otherwise) for obvious reasons of power, politics and freedom/repression.
But there are governments and organisations that regularly suppress this kind of expression (in One Piece and the real world--no surprise):
Tumblr media
There are governments and organisations that fear the pursuit of knowledge:
Partial SBS: Volume 86: Pedro led the Nox expedition party who were chased by the government for searching for poneglyphs, thus they became the Nox Pirates. That's a story from about 15 years ago.
Tumblr media
And there are governments and organisations that penalise people by taking their lives
Tumblr media
for seeking out knowledge. 👆👇
Tumblr media
From Clover,
Tumblr media
to Nico Olvia,
Tumblr media
to Rayleigh,
Tumblr media
to
(Egghead Arc spoilers under the cut)
to Pedro,
to the giants (👇 read right to left),
Tumblr media Tumblr media
to Vegapunk
Tumblr media
the power and desire to learn about history is emphasised and
Tumblr media
honoured,
(from chapter 396 👆)
Tumblr media
(from chapter 1066 👆)
and also acknowledged as a very dangerous undertaking.
Tumblr media
And even Cora talks to Law about
Tumblr media
the meaning behind the Will of D. not being lost, BUT "living on in the dark shadows of history around the world" (it's not easily seen either).
Like, knowing history and access to history/knowledge is one of the main themes of the manga. And Big Mom is a monster. And the World Government is a repressive monolith. And this guy (guy?) 👇:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
nuking places and people for not toeing the line, or for knowing too much; riddled with antipathy towards holders of the Will of D. and, with Artur's (Library of Ohara) claim (among others) that the ancient immense kingdom was formed by descendants of the D. clan (which is canon)—
Tumblr media
—then wouldn't you too be curious and more than a little pissed off that your curiosity could be the catalyst for persecution and genocide?
That searching for identity, roots...your reason for being, is not allowed? (Sound familiar?)
Like, those scholarly waters are nothing if not shark-infested.
Ultimately the pen (Robin's ability to read the poneglyphs, the scholars' meticulous research) probably will be mightier than the sword, and although bureaucracy can entrap, knowing how to read between the lines, or even to read them, can loosen the ties that bind, and help ensure they are not unfairly cast.
Keep fighting to study history, Law. I too want to know about the Will of D.

I feel I’m in the minority here, but I don’t think that Zoro’s loyalty to Luffy is blind. I feel he assessed the situation. I also feel that he’d be the last character to worship an individual as a god, and that it undersells his character and the equality between Luffy and Zoro to put Luffy on such a pedestal, whether it be in Nika form or average Luffy form, to set Zoro up as the number one acolyte of the Luffy cult. Although that sometimes feels what some of fandom’s relationship with Luffy is.
I dig the devil/angel art, don’t get me wrong, but I think that Zoro’s personality is strong enough to not get completely consumed by another. Although I like OPLA, and the boys in canon are devoted for sure, I think that OPLA in particular cut Zoro’s character development short, and maybe it’s now being reflected in interpretations of the same.
He is headstrong, though, for sure, and maybe he is Peter to Jesus, but I like something a little more down to earth, even though they’re both obviously extraordinary.

The thing with Belle-Mère, and also Cora, is that they both knew they were going to die. I hadn't realised it in Belle-Mère's case until I was rereading her chapter the other day when looking at source material for a meta.
Tumblr media
Maybe it was stubbornness, or maybe she knew her time was up. If she knew her time was up (and true, she almost guaranteed it was), then letting her kids know that she loves them and they are family is a complex gift.
Probably not the move I would've made. Nami was afraid of being alone, and she did end up being alone regardless. I wonder how she views her mother's sacrifice. I love Shanks' line at the graveyard of Whitebeard and Ace that he wished his captain sometimes knew when to retreat, when to be tactical. But, like Ace, he wouldn't back down.
Tumblr media
It seems to be an ethos One Piece supports. Though, perhaps not.

So judging from Imu, eternal youth surgery is also maybe eternal life (if it was used on Imu). SO, imagine if 13-year-old Law, peering out of a trunk at the dying but not yet dead Cora, knew that and he knew how to use it.
Then again, if he ‘d known how to manipulate the Ope-Ope no Mi, he probably could’ve saved Cora in other ways

chapter 1081 spoilers—okay, angst is fun and all but...
Shachi literally means orca in Japanese. Ikkaku means narwhal. They can dive deep (Narwhals, deeper than most submarines go, I think) and survive. Penguins are pretty good underwater for a while (though I don't know about depth). The ocean is the home of sea urchins and sea angels (Uni and Clione). And have we forgotten how hardcore Penguin and Shachi went here?:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And do you think that Jean Bart looks a little fishman here? ( A little Namur-like).
Tumblr media
Now, I don't know about snow geese, but we'll give Hakugan some magical properties. So while it is heartbreaking that the Polar Tang
will no longer sail the seas (and, yeah, the boys had had it forever, but this is the sub's own Going Merry moment, perhaps), I think we should believe Bepo here:
Tumblr media
where he urges Law to have faith in the hardiness of his North Blue crew in the depths of the ocean. His concern is more with Law (but we know he'll be okay):
Tumblr media
Bepo urges Law not to die, but the Hearts will continue to overcome. I don't know that they'll be captured either, but they must've almost escaped because Jean Bart was on land, right? In chapter 1064:
Tumblr media
But look at this instruction (also from 1064):
Tumblr media
where Law urges Penguin and Shachi into the water. The Hearts are fine, but I understand the angst (it's glorious, isn't it?!). I think Law's worried, obviously, but I also think he picked his crew and mode of transport for a reason beyond just remaining hidden.
But, the Polar Tang:
Tumblr media
the Victoria Punk
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the Jewelry Margerhita?
Tumblr media
Although, the Wiki says they don't know what happened to it after Bonney was captured by Blackbeard way back when, but in Egghead Jinbei does ask her:
Tumblr media
where her ship and crew is. She states that her ship (which might be the Jewelry Margherita) was eaten by the monsters (controlled by Lilith, right?) outside of Egghead, and that she came alone.
The wiki says: (according to Vivre Card - One Piece Visual Dictionary (Card #0511), Information about Bonney is revealed), that:
Bonney seems to prioritize her own safety over her crew's as she managed to escape Marine detainment but chose not to rescue her subordinates.
That's stark contrast to Law, and we've mostly seen her operate alone, but I'm not gonna believe the Vivre cards just yet.
Also, Kid's obviously alive if Law is and if their losses were similar in wording and visuals. I think Kid's crew have saved him, if not Shanks' crew.
BUT, once Law recovers, he'll not be sequestered in a cell for ten years before he becomes relevant again (poor Kid. Damn!).
As @purplehairedwonder pointed out, the Polar Tang was carrying Law's poneglyph copies, and I bet that the crew is carrying them. Hope so. He'd be wise enough to have them waterproofed. BUT it makes more narrative sense to have them destroyed.
Now, someone was talking about how a Klabautermann is only seen when a ship is doomed (this wikipedia article supports it, but that's as far as my sources go) and therefore they didn't include images/stories/prompts about it for the Polar Tang. I can't remember who it was! Ahh, well it seems that the Klabautermann of various ships have been very busy lately.
Kuzan, too. Kuzan is cool (haha). I'm glad we saw him. And the dialogue with the Blackbeard pirates and Kuzan. OH, I almost forgot, this angst:
Tumblr media
where Blackbeard taunts Law with the fact (yes, fact!) that there are a hundred pirates on Pirate Island still without their hearts, due to Law, and BB would be thrilled to punish Law for the fact, can't help but stir the whump-writer's heart (I'm sorry, Law).
AND, Koby and Law were in cahoots in some way, I'm sure of it (probably be disproven). Something similar to Luffy and Smoker at Alabasta, perhaps? Anyway.
Side note, do you think that Chopper used Caesar Clown's science and ego to help produce the rumble-ball like power-up he gave Bepo? If so, I wonder if this will come to play in the future when Caesar and Judge enter the fray again, if they do.

Okay, is it canon that Law doesn't want to go after the one piece?
Tumblr media
I always thought that scene when they were mid-time-skip, and Law basically said, "hold your horses, the one piece will wait" was an indication that he wasn't without interest.
Tumblr media
(that extra white bit is where Law's shoe invaded the frame). I know Oda was still trying to spook us out at these points, but I think he had/has ambitions.
The smack talk with Kid and Luffy at Sabaody about them all being dreamers but also enemies,
Tumblr media
and Kid and Law are definitely invested in Luffy's words there (above), when he declares he's going after the one piece. Kid states they'll all be enemies when they meet again in the first panel.
Aiming for the One Piece can be seen as a means to an end for Law, but I think it's one possible means to an end. I know we have his 'living every day until this moment' speech when he hopes to get revenge on Doflamingo, but at the same time, if his plan had gone to order, he wouldn't have been in that situation.
Facing Doflamingo front-on wasn't a thought-out consideration. I think it was designed to be a pitstop if things had worked out. Kaidou was gonna do the dirty work.
Anyway, back to now.
Tumblr media
Why would Law share the poneglyph readings with Kid in Wano, stating he'd be sneaking out to a head start if he didn't? A head start to what? Seems to me they're going after the same thing, because otherwise what advantage would Law have had over Kid?
Law doesn't want the field uneven between either Kid, Luffy, or him. Previously he had said he rescued Luffy to keep things interesting. It does maybe show less of an interest, because he possibly is not as ruthless as he should be if it was a major goal (but neither is Luffy). It is possibly an adjacent interest, but I don't think he's 100% uninvested.
And why would the three captains squabble about directions when leaving Wano if they weren't heading towards the same place, hoping to get the same thing? Even if Law's is a front, he hasn't said he's not going for the One Piece.
Tumblr media
Law says that North-East is the most direct route, but to what? They're all trying to get to the same place, it seems, although maybe just into the general routes and passages of the New World, but for what aim? After all, Law can find out the meaning of the Will of D. and try his luck at the One Piece. It's the same path (seems to be).
I'm not saying he's not interested in the Will of D., cos' he obviously is, but I'd say he still has some investment in the One Piece, or had up until chapter 1081.
Tumblr media
Like, what's the point in being rivals if you're not rivals? I know the above is played for laughs where Law says he and the Straw Hats are enemies forever, and the Straw Hats respond by treating Law as the rival you're having when you're not having a rival, but at the same time, he set a path, he shared information, the captain trio were all aiming to reach the same destination, I think. Where?
Anyhoo, just my two-bits' worth.

true history: true mystery, chapter 1085 spoilers
OH MY GAWD,
What a chapter. And cos he's my boy, told you we didn't have to worry too much about one
Tumblr media
Trafalgar
Tumblr media
D.
Tumblr media
Water Law!
I'm so excited (I feel like I should go out and order the whole set of steak knives).
Anyhoo! I remember when I enjoyed reading the scans on my Friday, and they now come out very early my Thursday morning (like, super early. It's just shy of 3am). BUT this was a treat. And the reason I mostly read them is to prevent being spoiled, but also because they include really interesting translator's notes, etc. such as the ones below about Imu:
Tumblr media
Which is difficult to see, but basically it says that Imu refers to themself as Mu and then says that Mu can refer to the void century but also to dreams. Super interesting. And so, Lili was not, unfortunately Imu (but that's okay, cos' I love this story line too), BUT she was a...
Tumblr media
D!!!
As shown above, where King Cobra realises...
...that he won't survive his encounter with Imu (who was apparently one of the original 20), and Cobra reveals that Lili was Queen Nefertari D. Lili. GOOD STUFF. Sabo overhears. Imu has some problems with this, because, as stated by Cora
Tumblr media
and reiterated by (without knowledge to the best of our understanding) Imu
Tumblr media
the "D" is the moniker of the Celestials ancient enemy.
And, although sketchy, look at the perspective from that panel above! Imu is miles above them all. Another aside, while looking up Cora and Doflamingo stuff, there's also the 'heavenly' perspective on this frame with Cora and Law, but I also know Oda is fond of this type of editing/story telling:
Tumblr media
Back to 1085: Cobra's recollection that Imu was the name of one of the original 20 does tie into the probable theory that Imu had the eternal youth operation centuries prior.
Anyhoo, this is well out of order (my posting of frames) as always! Sorry. It's not only the D's that Imu and their clan need to be scared of, but also
Tumblr media
the scholars. Be still my LawBin shipping (platonic or romantic) heart! But, I digress. So Lili is the one responsible for the preservation and also dispersal of
Tumblr media
the poneglyphs. Whole page there. So much information! Cobra has not revealed that Lili was a "D" at this point, or that he himself is, so he was playing with fire coming in to see the Elders, but I guess the whole lineage had known about that for a long time then (that they had the initial for some reason) and had survived. It also seems that maybe King Cobra did know more about the poneglyph in Alabasta than previously assumed. Perhaps?
Anyway, Imu above says that Lili's dispersal of the poneglyphs around the world was perhaps a deliberate action (apparently it had been passed off as a mistake, a blunder) as part of a larger plan. And with the reveal of her being a possessor of the Will of D. it seems it probably was, even if she was a catalyst, as so many D's seem to be, without having full awareness or knowledge of what ultimate role they're playing.
Tumblr media
Full page again, cos it's so good. So Imu questions Cobra as to why they never divulged Lili's full name, only referring to her by her royal title, which is actually pretty standard practice. BUT, Imu obviously has very strong convictions that Lili is one of those rabble rousers who get this his entity-self really hot under the collar too!
And the Gorosei basically saying: You can't expose that we're some kind of oligarchy/dictatorship/absolute malignant monarchy when it's supposed to be some kind form of supposed League of Nations acting for all countries and supposed world peace. Interesting mix of Imperialism and colonialism these guys have going on. Anyway! The revery is still going on, and is now absolutely proven to be a farce:
Tumblr media
Although King Neptune, and who's the other dude? Can't remember. Not Dalton, is it? (please let me know) King Riku Doldo are looking very skeptical at the Uncle Sam dude. (Thank you @robinchan-hananomi !)
Walpol becomes relevant in a way that it seems that Caribou will be too, and Vivi has been kidnapped by the CIA CP0 (or are they CP9)?
Walpol overhears and sees not only Imu's decimation of Cobra with figures that look a lot like Kanjurou's Kazenbo flame spirit from Wano (did the Gorosei shape-shift too, or was it all Imu sending out some kind of malevolent spirit?), but I think he also overhears Cobra's revelation to Sabo that has a nice SFX bubble over it to just tease we readers enough with hints of information about how the Poneglyphs must be protected, and will seemingly will help usher in the dawn! Ooh, so excited.
Tumblr media
BTW. What or who is the figure behind Cobra in the bottom right panel? Sabo?
Walpol outs himself as having seen everything, so shocking is it to him:
Tumblr media
and so the spectres are on his tail (and I think it's quite funny that first Imu doesn't know or sense Sabo, and other defenses are breached by Walpol, of all people!). SO, he's one of my least favourite villains, along with Caribou and Spandam, but I'm guessing there's something with their devil fruits that make them crucial to the plot, as well as being kind of incidental characters witnessing key points of One Piece lore.
I doubt he has any great love for Vivi, but he also probably knows where his best chance for survival lies, so, it seems he's been creeping around the castle and I'm going to align CPO with Get Smart now, cos they've got that kinda vibe. Not goofy enough to be Scooby Doo (although Jabra does a good job), but still funny and sexy enough to be the characters of Get Smart who weren't Max. (look it up if you don't know).
Anyhoo! Vivi got kidnapped, and I'm guessing it was at the urging of the gorosei who did it at the urging of Imu, or maybe if Cobra didn't spill the beans, they would've used her as a bargaining chip. Anyway, Kalifa here:
Tumblr media
stating that Vivi will end up being a pet (?!?). Did Charloss want her? And I'm wondering if Jabra's wording is a mistranslation, although maybe not. As far as I'm aware, the expression is "play your cards closer to your chest", but maybe it's changed over time. Or there's a pun I'm not getting.
Vivi's reaction in the following frame is awesome (gonna put the whole page in again, cos it's got so much info):
Tumblr media
First, awesome that Shirahoshi got away, and we saw that way back when with Garp accompanying the family back to Fishmen Island. Cool info dump from Jabra above. (Very chatty secret agents. Maybe that's why they don't get to wear masks). But I especially like Vivi's incredulity at Kalifa's comment, and her commitment to doing something about it. She's got a devil fruit, doesn't she? Yes! BUT
Tumblr media
Trashing young prince to the rescue! (okay, he's a king, once disposed, newly reinstated somewhere) (but he is young. This guy's in his 20s, I think). Vivi hitches a ride with the dumpster on wheels. And from there, Big News Morgans picks them up! (not yet witnessed). Here from chapter 1074:
Tumblr media
She's really gone up in my estimation. I never noticed how much she speaks her mind and sticks up for others before (I'm slow, don't worry). And it's not just cos she's a D. Haha. That's not an automatic "like" card, but I might be a little predisposed.
Speaking of which, this part with the ASL brothers was hilarious:
Tumblr media
"Do want a "D" in your name, Sabo?"
"You can be Sad. Bo!"
"Why'd you put it there!?!"
Ah, lol, bless.
Also, Imu has the same kind of imperiousness as Doflamingo. Doflamingo's rougher in speech, and I'm guessing with the "thou" and so on shown in the scanlation on the first page that Imu is formal, but as entitled and condescending as fuck, just like our pink feathered friend.
One thing (or many) so interesting about Doffy, though, is:
Tumblr media
from chapter 727, is that he's a man very sore about losing his Celestial dragon status, who wants to destroy them and the world government, and who is not afraid of the CD's. Also, it seems that he's well aware of Imu (Mary Geoise's greatest treasure?). I wonder how he was going to challenge Imu if Law had granted him eternal life. If that was his aim. So, a digression, but I think our pink bird will again be relevant soon! Fingers crossed, and I really don't want them to redeem him. Please.
Lastly, the cover was very cute:
Tumblr media
Franky directing newly hatched turtles to the ocean, and it's true, so many head in the wrong direction, and such a small proportion actually survive, so he's a hero. Is he sitting on a turtle-hatchling eating crab?
Dunno if any of this was coherent, and I'm sure I missed a bunch, but over and out for now (ah, back to bed!).

just a few things that amused me: chapter 1087 spoilers
It's a serious chapter, and Oda's serious about us all realising the threat of Blackbeard and his crew and affiliates, but just a few frames from me:
Tumblr media
A couple of weeks before the 5 week recuperation period, Grus was put out that Garp hadn't mentioned that he, along with Koby, was the future of the marines.
He asks directly. I like that. But poor Prince Grus. 😁
Tumblr media
Garp gets severely wounded by an invisible Shiryu, and Koby wants to take the blame because he states that Garp protected him (which he probably did). But Garp's response is for Koby to "Don't flatter yourself"...Shiryu having had Garp "in his sights the whole time", which also seems truer.
Really, if these three guys had headed to the ship, Garp would have less to worry about and the ship would probably be safer, but messy kinda humans and co. make up the world of One Piece.
Tumblr media
And the first strip above is funny—Kuzan obviously having been treated similar to Garp's rearing (or not) of Dragon and Luffy (that's only kinda the funny part), and Garp invading his personal space and time in the way he did Sengoku's, once Kuzan was made an admiral.
But that familiarity makes the words leading up to the battle between Garp and Kuzan below cut! Man. Especially considering Kuzan...
...saved Smoker. Was gonna say, well, he's obviously not part of SWORD. But then I remembered about Smoker. Hmm.
Tumblr media
There's Tsuru's granddaughter, right? . And Tashigi gets the caretaker's role again (for Hibari, Akainu's granddaughter, possibly)? BUT, if Garp is captured again, or Koby and co., fingers crossed she gets a more active role. But it makes me wonder when you see characters like:
Tumblr media
Maki from Jujutsu Kaisen or even
Tumblr media
Power from Chainsaw Man (and others),
how Oda feels about really having let the ball drop with his female characters. Not all of them, but he set up so many great characters, and what do you think happened? Editorial interference? Oda liked the concept, but not the manifestation? Too difficult to draw? After all, he's just learnt how to draw sexy bums, apparently, which is why we're getting so many (female) bums in the manga lately.
From Sandman on Twitter:
New SBS: Oda: We see many drawings with angles of butts. In a future island, I tried to make a different design from the present day. I ended up with a costume that shows butts. I researched how to draw sexy butts. It's fun to draw butts now because I can draw them well.
I don't hold out hope for him. JKK and CSM are in no way perfect, but it's a better balance.
Then again:
Tumblr media
Maybe Tashigi and Shigure will easily deal with this! Fingers crossed. Or maybe this is when Smoker makes an appearance.
Anyway:
Tumblr media
Do you think that Kuzan might've rushed in as a protective measure? In that, he wasn't protecting the small fry, but was protecting Garp from them, even though they sent each other flying (although, possibly out of the way of harm?). Seems the horde is closing in on Garp, though. With Prince Grus standing by to fight them off.
Tumblr media
Also, Perona and Moria are still floating and lurking around!
My quick few frames are never a quick few frames!

I got quite a big reaction to this post on OPLA episode 7 and, although reduced, also on this post to episode 8 about how OPLA handled Nami's backstory. My main beef was the watering down and changing of Bellemère and Nojiko's roles, and if the reasons were time constraints, I still don't think they had to change them so much.
I liked the live action, and even the last two episodes, but (and I guess it's cos' they didn't know if there would be season 2), by reducing Nami's story by making Luffy the complete hero of her arc, I think it takes away from one of the fundamental concepts of One Piece.
Like, one reason why Law, Nami, etc. are not like Doffy, Arlong or Orochi is because they had a good parental/authority-figure/support, despite also having a bad parental/authority figure in their lives. It's not because of Luffy.
Zoro had Kuina (and Koushirou was not a tyrant), Usopp, Kaya, Sanji, Zeff, so why not keep Bellemère and Nojiko in these roles for Nami? Bellemère is the standard Hollywood protective Mum in OPLA, but she's not the hardcore One Piece Bellemère we know and who Nami takes after in many ways.
I don't mind the smaller details being dropped, but in the two scenes that they kept, I don't feel they needed to be changed from canon (in Bellemère intiially facing down Arlong, and in her defending Nami in her own way against Genzo and also sassing and flirting with Genzo. Nami's fingers being crossed behind her back kinda hinted at it, but not overt enough). And I think they could've had a villager diss Nami as much as having Nojiko do this. One reason Nami is Nami is she had Nojiko (and the villager's covert) support.
I'm guessing having Nojiko play the accusatory role dovetailed the story somewhat, but it leaves Nami's character flatter than the other three because it paints her as struggling, isolated and completely alone, before Luffy turned up. She was, her situation was dire, but she knew she was loved by some, and her care for them drove her. Oda lays the tragedy on thick, but he's also kind nuanced with it. I don't know that OPLA painting Nami as such an individual/isolated player tapped into that.
I think one of Luffy's greatest strengths is that he believes that his nakama and associates are the person that their good parental figure believed them to be. SO, I guess Luffy lets them believe in the dreams that circumstances have hindered, and makes it easier for them to pursue those dreams and to smile by removing those circumstances (or helping to remove them), but they were working hard to be good people in their own way anyway. I write about smiles in that second post above, btw. Also something missing from Nami's backstory. However, Luffy is/was not the sole person who believes in them.
BUT, overall, I really liked the series, and do understand the restrictions of live action as opposed to a weekly manga.

ageing up, ageing down: jewelry bonney
You know what I haven't seen mentioned, although I'm sure it has been mentioned, is this:
Tumblr media
The fact that Bonney changing the ages of the Straw Hats stopped this Pacifista from going after them .
An older model Pacifista is not a seraphim, but it carries the same kind of intention, and Kuma was also a warlord, and S-Bear's out there.
Tumblr media
Zoro tells us
Tumblr media
that a Lunarian, such as King, can't be hurt unless the fire goes out on their back (I had to include the joke above), and Shaka confirms
that the Seraphim were
Tumblr media
strengthened, I guess, by the unethical means of using King's blood (that he didn't give over willingly when he was a prisoner—"test subject"—at Punk Hazard).
Anyway, I'm wondering if affecting ages also affects the ability or will of attack in the seraphim. It might not, because York gave orders to kill everyone. But, remember
Tumblr media
also that Sentamoru gave the orders to the most elite Pacifistas to protect Luffy, the Straw Hats and their creator, and to see that
Tumblr media
they all get away safely.
Luffy and co are not going to know that the Pacifistas are on their side, so I expect a few more scenes like this:
Tumblr media
where the Straw Hats might fight or run.
Or maybe Luffy's future-sight will see that they're allies, OR, will an order override Sentomaru's again and turn them against everyone?
SO, what my point(s) really is/ are
-- will Bonney change ages of allies and friends, and hence stop the seraphim pacifista attacks?
-- will all seraphim somehow associate Bonney with Kuma and with the earlier and current pacifista, and somehow be the one to ultimately command them all? She's gotta be there for a reason. And Kuma's gonna be a crucial player, I think. We didn't see it in the panels above, but I wonder if it's something to unlock.
Possibly Sanji's own modifications might come into it too.
Also, Revolutionaries too, right? With all the other excitement, maybe this conversation has been forgotten:
Tumblr media
and Shaka got wiped out (we think), but Dragon no doubt has some kinda contingency/back up plan. Just what did Shaka tell him? (or was it a red herring to divert attention from York?).
Is he on his way to Egghead Island too, especially after Kuma teleported away. AND after we witnessed Shanks' awesome future sight in chapter 1079, the best future sight we've seen so far, maybe this is literal. Maybe Vegapunk does have this ability too? But which Vegapunk?

I, mu, mu, mine
I'm wondering about the pronunciation of Imu's name. So far, we've got the katakana, so it does seem that it is the /i/ as in pin /イ/ and the mu like in move (maybe not as elongated) /ム/. Part of me wonders if there is some visual word play going on with the Romanisation of /イ/ to /I/ — which, being a name, get's capitalised, such as in the I pronoun by which English users refer to themselves /aɪ/.
I know it's ii-mu, BUT it would so fit in a Celestial Dragons if it were also I-(the mighty) Mu. (It might also be a play on I, me, me, mine). But that's me being an egotistical English user! Still.
It does seem that the (ム) (Mu) part of Imu's name will be important (so the Wiki might have to do some retro-editing. It currently has Imu listed as Im). Imu refers to themself as Mu (ム), and according to Sandman on Twitter, it comes across as quite childish.
According to the scanlation crew, they say that Mu can stand for 'void' but also for 'dream', but Sandman doesn't mention this. Sandman is Japanese, and just mentions that it's a mythical lost continent with ties to Atlantis.
This is from the scans:

Gonna have to track down the raws and see whether Kanji was used or not. I don't think so, or I think Sandman would've mentioned it.
Sandman's post:
Tumblr media
Also wondering if Imu referring to themself by abbreviated name (seemingly) ties into a protocol similar to the use of the 'royal we'. Such as Queen Elizabeth having referred to herself (and I guess the royal entity) in that way.
Anyway! We'll see (we being fandom, not me, but including me. Haha).

So, I'm not 100% sure how the seraphim are replicated, but it is through having scraped DNA samples from the war lords, as I recall. "augmented with King's Lunarian blood" (thanks Wiki). The seraphim representing warlords who already have a devil fruit also seem to have those abilities.
SO, hypothetically, if there is a seraphim of Law out there, then couldn't it grant Imu or whoever eternal youth? (I guess, at the expense of the death or destruction of the cyborg. I wonder if that is factored in). Law is a paramecia user—the only kind of devil fruit that I think that Vegapunk was able to clone.
Tumblr media
However, if a clone has the ability to use the ope ope no mi, it seems it would be too powerful, so I don't know if we'll see a Law seraphim. Also, wouldn't the original warlords (as opposed to seraphim, so I don't mean the original 7 here) know the weakness of their own devil fruit in particular? I wonder if that also contributes to their genetic make-up.
As a flippant thought, all of the seraphim are pretty cute, but Law would look like this:
Tumblr media
but with wings.
Even his 10 and 13 year old self are not that much different. So, y'know, upsetting the aesthetic there, Law! Not cute (although, I think he'd be cute), which might be why Edward Weevil won't be a seraphim (but I hope he is).
Buggy's also a paramecia user. I'm assuming that Blackbeard never made it to shichibukai status (shooting straight to emperor), despite Lafitte's tap-dancing entreaties that he be given the title Edit in: @ninhaoma-ya informs me he had a tiny stint as a shichibukai, which is what I thought, before I double guessed (gassed) myself.
In either case, I've got a feeling that there might be a batch of Blackbeard out there, and I think he'd consumed the yami yami no mi by the time Lafitte crashed the shichibukai meeting way back in the Mock Town chapters BUT it's a logia.
Also, Blackbeard had to deliver Ace to the marines somehow, right?
I'm sorry if someone's already posited this and I'm repeating the ideas. I feel as if I haven't seen it put forth. Also, I read in a post somewhere that Vegapunk said they were only able to clone 4 seraphim, but the wiki (not always the greatest source, I know), doesn't mention it, and makes a continual reference to the 7 bukai (cos shichi = 7). Or maybe I'm just reading shichibukai and substituting the 7. Anyway! Munderlings and wusings.

Kid and Law, KidLaw, Where to from here?
Considering how much Kid's been featuring in covers and colour spreads, etc., and this callback to Disco stabbing his wanted poster, along with Law's, Luffy's and Zoro's (chapter 659), I'd say Kid still has an important role to play. After all, who was the mysterious guy the Kid pirates wanted to go after , and Law did throw him the info on the poneglyphs before they left Wano.
Tumblr media
We might only get crumbs on them for a few years (but Law's so popular, we'll probably get a bit more on him), but we will get it. As for a Kid back story? He might be the Bege Capone of the arcs, but I hope we do get it, especially considering how important Killer was to the overall story in Wano.
Gonna pop in the scan translations, too, cos I like the more colloquial langauge.

hi there!
I always see you commenting on OP chapters and analyzing them, which makes it a great joy for me to read some without the typical op fans hate.
Anyhow, I would like to ask for your thoughts on Law's current situation and his rule in the future #spoilers
I personally don't think his rule is over yet, Oda went out of his way to declare Law's new goal, which many ppl said after dressrosa he is irrelevant?
besides, Law isn't a rival to Luffy, if anything he's an ally, so there is no point in tossing him out of the story like he did with Kidd - which is a shame and lazy writing honestly - But I don't like to use '' he's a D too'' argument either, because:
a) Ace, b) not every D is essential to the plot.
I can't predict what Oda gonna do with him in the future, maybe join Luffy again ( the fan in me talking) or join Crocodile and the others (stampede foreshadowing ?)cuz law doesn't seem to care who he works with as long as his goals are accomplished.
I just feel like Oda wanted so bad to get rid of his crew and focus on him - and bepo cuz he's cute- it seems like a pattern that Oda is doing every time Law is on screen.
P.S. I'm sick of people saying law gonna die, like, what's the point of him dying, they've been on it for years lol.
I hope this massage isn't too much
thank you !

Hi Nonny,
Thank you! Wow—that's quite an ask! (I don't mind). My answer will probably not be that long (haha) and obviously I'm not Oda, so everything is speculation. I'm not answering in any particularly order, but
I don't think Kid has been cast aside. He might not be a contender for the One Piece any more, but Oda put a lot of work into his character too, making it one of the main subplots of Wano, and a lot of work into his design, and Kid and Law appeared on two of the volume covers for the Wano arc, so I think he's temporarily disposed, but I think we'll see him again (plus he named all of Kid's crew?). Killer as well, having appeared on that colour spread with the first hand men of major players (Shiryu is there as well; but I do think that King and Katakuri might not be playing roles).
Tumblr media
2. I think the D. should be focused on, actually. All of the Ds, in that, perhaps the Poneglyphs the Hearts carried did survive in their own possession (wishful thinking!), and the crew themselves. I've written elsewhere that I think that Oda gave them a marine animal theme, and named them after marine animals (some of which can dive very deep) for a purpose (I call them National Geographic Hearts). However, this is more a head canon for my creative purposes, and I do cede that Oda separates Law from his crew on the regular, cos' 20 characters plus 10 characters + 1 is far too many for a storyline to maintain cohesion, and it's Luffy's story.
3. Okay, this is a spoiler for my fanfiction, Bioluminescent Hearts: BUT, what if through marine animal shapeshifting devices, ALL Hearts & Law & Bepo end up on Elbaf, which, according to Artur at Library of Ohara, is not too far from Winner Island (I'll put a visual below). The poneglyphs survive, somehow (actually, might have them wrapped in seal skin. Might edit that into my story!) ie: one of the crew always kept them on their body, nearby, etc.
Saul (a D.) recognises Law because he follows the news and Robin's life, and takes in both the Hearts and "returns" the poneglyphs to Law. (Also, probably knew a young Rosinante). From there???
Tumblr media
4. I doubt Oda is gonna take that path. But that's my alternative path. Law will probably hook up with Luffy and I don't mind Kid doing that either. I don't
want Law to do it as an extra Straw Hat though, or as a (relation)ship or as a subordinate to Luffy. Robin and Law will still be able to pursue their wish to seek out true history through their interest in the Void Century, Will of D. etc., and Saul will help fill in the blanks if this path is taken.
I believe the Kid and Heart crews will still play a support role to Luffy, but it will be sketched into the background. I believe that Killer will also have a role (like Bepo). Possibly the next best-known Hearts and Kid pirates might appear. Again, I don't think it will be that detailed.
5. What I started to say above but didn't, is that I think that all Ds are essential to the plot, especially now that we've discovered that Saul is alive, and Ace's death obviously drives the story, as do Law's parents' death, but Law isn't going to die because he's a D or pursuit of knowledge about being a D, etc., or for any other reason imo.
I don't think that Oda would want anything to overshadow Luffy's story at this point of the narrative, and killing Law off would do that. The angst train is strong, though, anon! So let people have their hand-wringing. It can be fun.
Also, I totally understand the deeper tragedy of losing a home/house (and in Japanese, Law refers to his crew as うち uchi , which is a word for home, when they meet the Straw hats on Zou), BUT I feel that Oda will not kill off the Hearts, and even if they're captured, I don't think the focus will strongly be on them (time constraints).
But, it will be cool if the hook up with Koby again in Hachinosu, etc. (there is that sub-story too!), considering the role they must've played in the Rocky Port Incident. Law too.
The Polar Tang was destroyed. And I love her. And I loved the Victoria Punk too, but through writing about the Polar Tang, probably had a deeper attachment to the submarine. However, the Hearts and the Kid Pirates are pirates, and part of the game is plunder, attack, destruction. Law got lucky (or had the skill and resources) with destroying the factories at Punk Hazard (and destroying the island and navy resources), and unlucky this time. He didn't invite the attack, and was up against an emperor and his crew, but Smoker, Caesar, etc. didn't invite the attacks (whether justified or not) on their person, peoples and possessions either. I'm not saying the attacks carry equal moral weight (which, Oda does a very good job of asking us to question), but pointing out the world they all inhabit.
One of Law's hobbies is apparently wandering, and he was the wandering monk in Wano (komusō). I think part of this might be cos he has been seeking a purpose, and that it's also tied to a fear of putting roots down, because they continually get usurped, but maybe it's also just part of his nature.
Tumblr media
I think that he's learnt by now just how resilient he is and that he can come back and also that he won't betray the faith—and recognises the love—that love has had in him (I'm in the minority there, but I think the novel supports me, and various statements Law makes elsehwere).
Tumblr media
Anyway, did I answer anything? Probably not. And absolutely NO shade on the interpretations anyone else has, and I find if I get frustrated with fandom takes I usually just stay clear of that platform, that tag, that topic for a while! Law lives, don't worry. If he dies, I'm wrong, and I'll eat Law's hat once I wrest it from Blackbeard' grip. However, I do also cede the symbolism of him losing his hat. 3rd time is the charm/death knell?
PS: I don't really want him to join up with Croco and the boys, but Oda has a way of endearing me to any premise he's come up with, so basically, I'll wait and see what unfolds. Too, great metas on this topic over at @purplehairedwonder — for chapter 1081, but I also really liked their meta on chapter 1079. @ninhaoma-ya's chapter analyses are great too, and I enjoy @roydeezed 's write-ups. I don't read anything as closely as these guys do!

One thing that didn’t get added into my last post on the possible futures of Law and the Hearts, are the actual beating hearts that Law gathered and that the navy still possesses of the pirates on Hachinosu, and the fact that it’s a method of control for the navy over 100 men, if they’re trying to free Koby & co (if they’re not successful at escaping).
Like, Teach confirmed those pirates were alive and on the island. We don’t know what roles they play but Teach mentioning them makes it seem they are working with him (will edit in some panels later or make a separate post). Like, the navy gives a heart a squeeze—we’ve seen the pain it causes, and it could also generate panic and fear if the cause of the pain is not located and is seemingly random. Thereby weakening, if not deleting, some of the ranks.
musing!
Danger for the Heart Pirates if they end up on Hachinosu, but also potential for great alliances with Koby, etc.
