It was 10.30 a.m. and Sophie was in a critical condition. The emperor would later report that he and Elisabeth found her “debilitated but completely calm”. The night before, the dismayed parents learned from Sophie's attendants that “the poor child had [suffered] a great deal”. Based on the available data, we know that when the parents arrived, she was completely dehydrated and her kidneys were already failing. There was nothing more to be done: at 3 p.m. Sophie went into agony. Her “involuntary cries”, as Franz Joseph would later tell his mother, were signs of impending death. Her parents kept vigil at her bedside. The doctors, aja and nanny also gathered in the dying child's room. Several times, Elisabeth tried to elicit a reaction from her. She talked to her, asked her questions. Shortly before her death, she asked her again: “Baby, where is Papa?”. But she could no longer speak. In response to the question, she merely “turned her beautiful, deep eyes towards him [Franz Joseph]”. In her last minutes of life, Franz Joseph pressed a crucifix into her small hands and Elisabeth placed the cross, which had always been under her pillow when her daughters were born, under Sophie's. Shortly afterwards, her daughter stopped breathing. The “Baby” was dead.

ON THIS DAY, IN 1857, ARCHDUCHESS SOPHIE FRIEDERIKE OF AUSTRIA DIED AGED TWO-YEARS-OLD. She was the eldest child of Emperor Franz Josef I of Austria and his wife Duchess Elisabeth in Bavaria. Accompanying their parents, Sophie and her younger sister Gisela went to Hungary for a two-months tour. But soon after their arrival, Gisela felt ill with fever, and a day later also did Sophie. The beginning of the tour was postponed for ten days. Gisela recovered, but Sophie worsened, and her father called upon an experienced doctor from Vienna to attend her. She was diagnosed with typhoid. After some difficult days Sophie improved and seemed out of danger, so the Imperial couple left, but only days later while in Debrecen they received an urgent message informing them that their daughter was very ill. They rushed back to Buda, where they found their daughter already at death's door.
Sophie's body was embalmed, but on the orders of her father, her internal organs weren't removed as the traditional Habsburg mortuary rites required. Her coffin was exhibited in Buda, where people was able said goodbye to her for a whole day. After the viewing, her remains were taken to the Capuchin Crypt in Vienna, the traditional burial place of the Habsburgs.

Recently saw a post saying that seeing “low kins” in someone’s kinlist is a red flag that they’re merely KFF and like... I GET why (I am not immune to making such judgments myself), but also, is everybody just ignoring the part of “otherkin”’s most widely-accepted definition that specifically says it’s “identifying wholly or partially” as your kintype?
Like... that feels like something that deserves more pointing out and exploration, I think?  The community places so much emphasis on not being remotely human (whatever “human” means) at all, and ngl to me it sometimes seems like a desperate attempt to simplify and render black-and-white things for the sake of being more “valid” to a cruel world that doesn’t understand them. One hollers “I’m completely a wolf in mind and spirit!”, but how much of that is out of desperation to have outsiders see them as their kintype at all?  Does it not make one feel sad and invalid if they don’t have a shift in long enough?  Feel that they’re not “wolf” enough and might be wrong?
Would someone appear “cringe” if they said they were “half dragon” or “a little bit” of a fox?  Probably.  But ALL otherkin and alterhumans are that as well, to an outside viewer looking to gawk at a poorly-understood subculture.
Are there too many KFF folks out there making fakey kinlists of every character and species they relate even a little to?  Yeah, probably, but that shouldn’t be a reason to completely brush off those who may fit more into the “partial” definition of an otherkin identity.  It really is a facet of otherkinity that seems to be ignored a lot in favor of being completely something, and it deserves more respectful documentation so we can all be less confused and more understanding of it.

Beginner's guide to Classpects #0: A prelude
Hello everyone, this post is going to serve as a sort of retroactive-precursor to my first post, The absolute beginner's guide to Classpects. Said post contains many mistakes and some regretful assertions about Classes. This post will serve as an easier to digest intro to that post, as well as correcting some of the things I got wrong, or misrepresented.
Part 1: Personal connection and "Roles in the story"
Tumblr media
Firstly, I'm happy to say that the first three sections of my initial post still largely hold up. However, the first thing I'd like to address is my take on what should dictate your Classpect. In the original post, I said this:
It's a common belief that your Classpect represents your personality, or is based on it. In my opinion, this is a misconception. Now yes, your personality and traits 100% have relevance to your Classpect, but it's not a matter of "You're a Maid of Breath, that means you're friendly". I'll get into what I mean more later, but I wanted to make that point clear. I don't see Classpects as personalities, and I think too many Classpect quizzes treat themselves like personality tests. Bottom line, the main important thing that your Classpect represents is your role. Your purpose.
I still partially agree with these assertions, but I really didn't communicate them well and some of them are a bit misguided in retrospect. Time to amend that. I do believe that Classpects aren't dictated by your personality, but are inherently tied to it. In the same way your personality is shaped by the people around you and your life experiences, so is your Classpect. Therefore, just as your personality and character change as you grow, so can your Classpect. This is why I don't see Classpecting to be a path with a set endpoint. It's a dynamic, moving journey with no set endpoint. This is, however, referring to your life prior to playing Sburb. It is my belief that your Classpect is determined by the person you are when you start playing. Even if you change as a person, your Classpect remains the same. Skia gives you a role to perform, but you are not bound to it. There are plenty of examples in canon of players doing things contrary to their own role. In spite of Skia's assertions onto you, you still have free will. This is where real life comes into play. As this is the real world, there is no Sburb. We cannot play a game that tells us which Classpect we are, therefore we have to decide for ourselves. (Or not. You by no means are required to Classpect yourself.) Therefore, we do not have a pre chosen in-game journey to fulfill. This grants us much freedom in the way we Classpect ourselves. Since we don't have a figure of authority to tell us what we are, we are free to decide our own Classpect based on where we are in life at that point in time. I still do believe that, while your personality should definitely affect how you determine your Classpect, the same does not work the other way around. You can't determine the path a player will take or their own personality based solely on their Classpect. Two players with the exact same Classpect will likely perform their role in two completely different ways and be completely different people.
I also maintain my belief that quizzes and tests are unhelpful in determining your Classpect. The only person that knows you best is yourself. That's why I believe doing the research and coming to your own conclusion is the best way of going about Classpecting yourself. Though, the guidance of someone more experienced can be helpful.
Part 2: Aspects, simplified.
Tumblr media
I believe that my analysis of the Aspects still holds up. However, I think that I was far too wordy and gave too much detail. Detail is important, but seeing as there are 12 fundamentally different Aspects, it can be overwhelming for a beginner. I will now give a more simplified rundown of the Aspects, for the sake of being easier to digest.
I will go over both the literal meaning of each Aspect, as well as their more personal meanings.
Time
Tumblr media
Literal meaning: Time, timelines, age, decay. Personal meaning: Determined, goal-focused, privy to detail, fixated.
Space
Tumblr media
Literal meaning: Outer space, physical dimensions, empty space, matter, size, velocity. Personal meaning: Patient, creative, big-picture focused, thinking-outside-the-box.
Heart
Tumblr media
Literal meaning: Inner self, soul, emotions, love. Personal meaning: Emotional, introspective, relatable.
Mind
Tumblr media
Literal meaning: Logic, decision-making, outcome, outer self. Personal meaning: Logical, strategic, reserved, big-thinker.
Hope
Tumblr media
Literal meaning: Belief, wishes, dreams, thoughts. Personal meaning: Hopeful, optimistic, naive, positive-thinker.
Rage
Tumblr media
Literal meaning: Truth, skepticism, anger, physical strength. Personal meaning: Skeptical, driven, stubborn, realist.
Light
Tumblr media
Literal meaning: Knowledge, fortune, relevance. Personal meaning: Scholarly, meticulous, organized, planner.
Void
Tumblr media
Literal meaning: Nonexistence, obscurity, darkness, secrets. Personal meaning: Abstract-thinker, quiet, open-minded.
Breath
Tumblr media
Literal meaning: Freedom, movement, independence, wind. Personal meaning: Lone wolf, directionless, unbothered, independent.
Blood
Tumblr media
Literal meaning: Bonds, relationships, unity, leadership, blood. Personal meaning: Natural leader, caring, selfless, wise.
Life
Tumblr media
Literal meaning: Growth, positivity, rebellion, life. Personal meaning: Empathetic, optimistic, rebellious, encouraging.
Doom
Tumblr media
Literal meaning: Death, fate, negativity, doomed timelines, rules. Personal meaning: Pessimistic, resigned, wise, adept.
Personal meanings aren't dictated to whomever possesses these Aspects, rather they are common traits among people with said Aspects.
Part 3: Classes, simplified.
Tumblr media
This is far and away my biggest regret with the original post. I boiled down many of the Classes far too much, overenforced Class pairings, and treated many fan interpretations of Classes as being factual. This is all on me for not doing enough research. It's time to get it right. In addition to speaking about Classes individually instead of pairing them together, I will have a clear distinction between what's known for sure, and what's my own personal interpretation.
Prince
Tumblr media
Canon function: One who destroys their Aspect or destroys through their Aspect. Canon alignment: Active (-) Speculation: Unnecessary.
Bard
Tumblr media
Canon function: One who allows destruction of their Aspect or invites destruction through their Aspect Canon alignment: Passive (+) Speculation: The canon function may be phrased so bizarrely as an attempt to define it's passive nature, rather than being an exact definition of it's function. My belief is that it's function is identical to that of Prince, only passive. Unofficial function: One who destroys their Aspect or destroys through their Aspect.
Thief
Tumblr media
Canon function: One who steals their Aspect or steals through their Aspect. Canon alignment: Active (-) Speculation: Unnecessary.
Rogue
Tumblr media
Canon function: One who steals their Aspect or steals through their Aspect. Canon alignment: Passive (+) Speculation: Rogue is my primary reason for believing Bard's function to be identical to Prince's. Rogue has the exact same function as Thief, only passive, and the two are paired. I believe it makes the most sense that this apply to Bard and Prince as well.
Witch
Tumblr media
Canon function: Undefined. Canon alignment: Active (-) Speculation: Based on canon examples, Witch's function is most likely "One who manipulates their Aspect or manipulates through their Aspect", or something to a similar effect. This is not known for certain, but is the most common interpretation and makes the most sense, in my opinion. Unofficial function: One who manipulates their Aspect or manipulates through their Aspect.
Heir
Tumblr media
Canon function: Undefined. Canon alignment: Passive (+) Speculation: There are many possible interpretations of Heir. The most common is "One who inherits their Aspect", which is rather vague and I personally disagree with. It still could be correct, however. My personal interpretation is "One who embodies their Aspect and is influenced by their Aspect". See my post Beginner's guide 2: An elaboration for more information on that. Unofficial function: One who embodies their Aspect and is influenced by their Aspect.
Maid
Tumblr media
Canon function: Undefined. Canon alignment: Undefined. Speculation: Maid has two common interpretations. "One who creates their Aspect or creates through their Aspect", and "One who upkeeps and maintains their Aspect". The former being derived from the powers of Jane Crocker, the Maid of Life, and Aradia Megido, the Maid of Time, and the latter being taken largely from a line that Aradia says, stating that "all loops must be tidied up even [Lord English]'s" In my opinion, the former interpretation has a lot more evidence behind it and makes more sense. Either interpretation could be correct, however. Maid's alignment is also unknown. Some people say it's active, some say passive, usually depending on which interpretation they believe. I personally believe Maid to be active, but it could still be passive. Unofficial function: One who creates their Aspect or creates through their Aspect. Unofficial alignment: Active (-)
Sylph
Tumblr media
Canon function: Undefined. Canon alignment: Undefined. Speculation: The most common interpretation of Sylph is "One who heals their Aspect or heals through their Aspect". This is based on Aranea Serket, the Sylph of Light, healing others, and even describing her actions as such. There is justification for Sylph's function to be otherwise. However, both of the other two most common interpretations are based on Sylph's pairing, with one being "One who manipulates their Aspect or manipulates through their Aspect", paired with Witch, and the other being "One who creates their Aspect or creates through their Aspect", paired with Maid. I disagree with these interpretations simply due to the fact that they're justified by their pairing. I personally think Class parings should be based on the Class's function, not the other way around. See my post Why Class pairings will never make sense for more information on that. My personal interpretation of Sylph is the first one I went over, but there's justification for other interpretations. Sylph's alignment is also unknown, but most believe it to be passive due either to the nature of it's function, or it being paired with an active Class. Unofficial function: One who heals their Aspect or heals through their Aspect. Unofficial alignment: Passive (+)
Mage
Tumblr media
Canon function: Undefined. Canon alignment: Undefined. Speculation: Mage is the Class we know, by far, the least about. I mean it when I say we know nothing about Mage, and we have essentially one Mage player to analyze. Most people define Mage's function as "One who experiences their Aspect and gains deep intuitive knowledge about it", and pair it as the active counterpart to Seer. It's a cool function, but I have to be honest, it's borderline fanfiction. It's a function built from the scraps of hints we get and held together by dozens and dozens of assumptions and guesses. It's the conclusion I came to in my post Beginner's guide 2: An elaboration, but honestly? I don't think I can interpret Mage in a way that offers any merit, including the generally accepted function. This is the only case where I am genuinely going to throw in the towel and say that we just straight up don't know enough to make a call. Therefore, I would advise against Classpecting yourself as such. Of course, I won't try to stop you. If you want to use the generally accepted interpretation, go for it. However, I am personally going to put this one under 'I' for "I don't fucking know". I am, however, going to say that Mage is active, simply because with all of my other alignment interpretations, it wouldn't make sense for it to be passive. Unofficial function: ??? Unofficial alignment: Active (-)
Seer
Tumblr media
Canon function: One who learns a lot about their Aspect or learns things through their Aspect. Canon alignment: Passive (+) Speculation: I find it strange that this Class is canonically passive, seeing as nothing about it or it's players really would indicate such. I feel similarly about Heir. The most likely explanation is that the two were given an alignment early in the comic, before Classes were a very fleshed out idea.
Knight
Tumblr media
Canon function: Vague. Canon alignment: Undefined. Speculation: In reference to Dave Strider, the Knight of Time, Aradia Megido states that "the knight of time is not necessarily the tactician. he is a powerful warrior class which exploits the flow of time as a weapon" This leads to the most popular and generally accepted function of Knight being "One who exploits their Aspect and uses it as a weapon". This is a reasonable interpretation and is the one I agree with, but it isn't technically canon. Aradia isn't an encyclopedia of knowledge about Classes or Sburb as a whole. She's fairly informed, but it's very possible she's incorrect. Also, similarly to Sylph, this description of Knight's role may not literally reflect it's function. Therefore, I will put this function down as unofficial. However, it's certainly more likely than most other unofficial functions. Knight's alignment is unknown, but most define it as active, due to it's function having no real focus on others. I personally see it as such, but it could go either way. Unofficial function: One who exploits their Aspect and uses it as a weapon. Unofficial alignment: Active (-)
Page
Tumblr media
Canon function: Vague. Canon alignment: Undefined. Speculation: Page is often touted as the passive counterpart to Knight and given the same function as it. In my opinion, this is the most unjustified common interpretation and is another result of people basing a Class's function on it's paring and not the other way around. The other most common interpretation is "One who provides others with their Aspect". This is the interpretation I agree with, but it also leaves out a major element of Page. That being, the growth. Page is explicitly said to start out weak and get stronger as it grows, eventually being the strongest Class of all, excluding Master Classes. I personally like to include this as a part of the function. Not entirely necessary, but I think it sums Page up just a little better. Page is most often said to be passive, either due to being paired with Knight, or due to it's function having to do with assisting others. Unofficial function: One who grows to provide others with their Aspect Unofficial alignment: Passive (+)
For more information on and interpretation of Classes, see my posts Beginner's guide 2: An elaboration and Why Class pairings will never make sense. Also, check out some other blogs. I'm not a source of authority, these are just my own opinions.
Part 4: Conclusion

That just about wraps up everything I wanted to correct and redo. I hope you enjoyed reading! -Crowe

Okay, but as a crazy horse person who has spent WAY too many years drawing horses, they are actually pretty good. Like I can see the arabian/draft horse vibes. In short, I adore them and am happy you added horses. Maybe we can get a proper introduction of all their names? Unless you've already done that and I haven't seen lol
Thank you! I'm... I'm trying... Ok I'mma willingly embarrass myself and post the horrendous first draft just-trying-to-get-their-coat-and-vague-shape-down rough sketches of the horses below the cut and a little info about each. But all four are horses that at least one of the ranchers have owned.
Tumblr media
First of all I simplified Adequate and Oreo's designs for the sake of drawing them easily, and gave Arrow and arrow-ish white face marking and hoof cause they seemed a bit plain compared to the others and was too much like Revy with the all dark colour.
All four are from Bdub's stables, and all of them are over 4 years old- well trained and beginner-safe personalities, since Tango's never even seen a horse in person before and Jimmy only has a bit of riding experience. Oreo and Bullseye are intended to be given to the hospital.
Adequate is, well, a very adequate horse. They're strong, sturdy, and pretty fast. Nothing spectacular but good enough for anything. They're very relaxed and the oldest of the horses, takes things easy and isn't easy to spook- though that's nearly gotten them bitten by stray zombies a few times. The moon could crash into the earth and they'd still be grazing. They got paired with complete newbie Tango during lessons cause of that. They'll eat anything put in front of him.
Oreo is the second oldest but much younger. They're a typical draft horse given with the intent to be used as one. They're used to lots of people and good with kids, but don't get along well with other animals, particularly dogs. Their favourite snack is sugar cubes and other sweet things.
Arrow is a small and fast horse, good for riding, and the youngest. they're very much fight over flight when startled and has kicked the life out of more than a few zombies. By far the most rowdy of the horses given to the ranchers, but still more than manageable. They like to play with Revy, which is always a bit startling to the inexperienced ranchers, but they haven't hurt each other yet. They like pumpkins the most, or maybe they just like tossing the bits around.
Bullseye is the most skittish of the horses. They're always going, having a lot of nervous energy. They also love to be given attention, being talked to, and being groomed. They go to the hospital, where it's a bit quieter and Scar can keep them company. Their favourite snack is yellow carrots and bananas, they just seem to like the colour more than anything.

imo the more interesting tim&jason dynamic /is/ the "they're only like 2 years apart" one (esp wrt "jason was tim's robin"? seems (to me) to have more potential if it's like "this kid who is my age is doing cool shit, I want to do cool shit like them, because they're my age and that hits close to home") personally am genuinely unsure why "tim is a poor little meow meow" seems to be more popular despite how it fucks both their characterizations lol
Tumblr media
i will answer to both of you here, as it's related to the same post!
just in case i want to say that there's plenty of aspects of tim's storyline that have lots of potential. and there certainly could be an interesting one involving jason too. alas.
i think in general fanon tim is just a poor little meow meow. it's really ironic how when he was introduced, the writers wanted to make him more "likable" than jay, and they didn't want batman to play a full-time dad, so in place of jay's insecurity and need for parental love tim gets two living parents and is, for the most part, self-assured. there's some canon progression which disturbs this status quo of course, but it's fanon that turned his storyline into one about neglect.
so apparently all writers should have done to make the new robin a fan favourite was keeping jason's struggles and just making tim wealthy. real "what's cool when you're rich but trash when you're poor?" moment. having attachment issues, apparently.
and don't get me wrong, there is place for meta about tim's parents being neglectful, even if the creators originally wanted to achieve the opposite. but i find the extent to which fanon pushes this idea and makes it his sole source of personality a bit astonishing, especially that canon tim, for the most part, doesn't share any of these issues. and personally, his initial motivations that stem from his fascination with vigilantism seem much more appealing to me.
as you said: "this kid who is my age is doing cool shit, I want to do cool shit like them, because they're my age and that hits close to home." maybe it's a bit simplified, but tim being just a child who gets himself into something much bigger than himself without really realising the consequences – and essentially both traumatising himself as a result (while also finding family, one does not exclude another) is a pretty fascinating concept.
and like. canon tim is plenty weird about jason, okay. so i think their confrontation at some point would be interesting. and probably awkward.
btw we don't actually get to see jason and tim's first interactions after jay's resurrection. i said it before, but for christ's sake, the teen titans tower incident is no longer canon, and for a good reason, especially that in that era jason is portrayed as having a psychotic break and tim hates his guts and calls him deranged?
how do you derive an enemy to caretaker trope from this is beyond me tbh. it sounds good in theory, right, because it refers to jay's inherent kindness, but you do have to make them "enemies" in the first place, or at least jason the aggressor – which you need to follow the ableist storyline for (i really doubt jason would actually care about tim much if he was more stable, and he definitely wouldn't want to hurt him), and all i can ask is: why. find something new.
i don't know, if there's any actually interesting tim & jason fanfics that don't follow these cliches you should let me know, because the majority of the tag definitely isn't for me.

On casual vs competetive game design
youtube
I watched this video, it got me thinking a bit and the comment I posted on the video ended up being so long that it would fit here cleaned up a bit and expanded a bit. The video itself makes the very good point that to make a good game you need the lowest possible skill floor with the highest possible skill ceiling.
However.
I think there's a bit of confusion when it comes to terminology and developer intent in the video. The word "casual" here is pretty much exclusively referring to noobs, however the term can also (as is often the case in TF2 discourse) be used to refer to people who play for fun rather than to win, or simply non-e-sport players. "Competitive" on the other hand is used to both mean "highly skilled players" and e-sport. The best highlight of this confused terminology is with the two 343 quotes. When they said the game was "too competitive" they mean that it favored skilled players too much. Later when they say that Halo was always about competitive play they are referring to e-sport. However, in both cases the argument that the developers is actually making has nothing to do with skill expression, it has to do with controlling the experience. The developers believe that they need to control the experience in such a way that new players will have a "good" or "rewarding" experience by simplifying the game to lower the skill floor and giving them cheap easy kills respectively. Also keep in mind that the comment was made at a time when skill-based match making wasn't the norm yet, meaning it was entirely possible for a single player with 1000 hours in the game to stomp lobbies full of new or inexperienced players. Later when arguing in favor of e-sport, they argue against mechanics they can't control, such as physics. This is because in the eyes of the developers e-sports have to be a finely balanced numbers game that can be tweaked so that all variables are perfectly balanced to ensure "fairness". The issue here is that
Concessions made for the sake of maximum retention of new players are neither fun nor fair.
Concessions made in order to keep the game "fair" at a top 1% competitive e-sport level are sterilizing and not fun either.
What these developers fail to realize is that engineered e-sports always fail because of this, just look at what happened to Overwatch, every single change made was made in service of the competitive meta and the result is that everyone hates it and the competitive league died. I think the whole issue stems from the fact that these developers look at games like Counter Strike and League of Legends and try to emulate their sterile, point and click numbers game and apply that mind set to a game formula that simply doesn't work like that.
Ironically making a good game that's fun and has lots of options for creative skill expression can often lead to a game becoming an e-sport despite not being perfectly balanced. Perfect examples of this are Super Smash Bros (Melee being a particularly good example with wave dashes etc.) and Quake and TF2.
TF2 is an especially good example of "competitive vs casual" because the actual competitive e-sport scene for the game has their own rule-set that bans a ton of weapons while reducing the number of players and effectively cutting the game in half as many classes aren't even viable at all (or barely viable) for competitive play. Valve tried and failed (miserably) to bridge the gap between casual and competitive play and the result was a lot of weapons being re-balanced, some deserved, other not, some weapons that used to be completely dominant got nerfed into the ground and became useless, some goofy weapons that were never a problem were nerfed into the ground (RIP caber) and some already fairly well balanced weapons were nerfed into the ground specifically because they'd be overpowered in competitive play. Not that any of that mattered to competitive players as they would continue to enforce the exact same weapon bans and continued with the exact same meta as they always had.
The lesson all devs should learn is to make a fun game and then give the players the freedom to tweak their experience to fit their needs. Should a competitive scene arise it will then sort itself out using weapon bans and other tools you make available to them to adjust the experience to ensure the balance for their e-sport.
As for making a game more accessible to new players it's probably easiest if the game is designed in such a way that low skill players can feel like they're contributing in some way even if they're bad. For FPS games having objectives that aren't just based on K/D ratio does the trick. Anyone can push the payload or stand on a point in TF2 or Overwatch and feel like they are meaningfully contributing to their team regardless of if they have a 0/10 K/D.

I've got to know, whats the process to your artwork, like how did you learn to draw poses and features as you do? Sorry if that's an odd question, just genuinely curious!
oh, that’s not an odd question; i appreciate asks like these haha! unfortunately my answer to this is going to be a bit long, so apologies in advance for that.
for poses, i devote an hour or two per week to practice a lot of figure drawing. it basically entails me collecting some references for poses, like the pose tool from posespace or pinterest (especially if i’m looking for some dynamic poses, though that entails being creative in how i search), and just... draw these poses from sight to the best of my ability. how i learn and how i practice is really just that. it's a great way for me to build a mental library of poses i can fall back to if i'm feeling like drawing freely without references.
but figure drawing can be hard and exhausting, and it takes time to work up to a point of drawing one figure for 10-20 minutes straight. and if that practice were my actual drawing process every time, i'd easily get frustrated every time i draw. so instead, (especially if you're starting out!) i recommend looking into gesture drawing, a method of capturing the dynamism of a pose in under a minute or a couple of minutes, or even a couple of seconds, without worrying so much about proportions and whatnot. imo this stuff is actually the backbone of figure drawing, because if you're not considering the overall movement of a character and just drawing the parts of the body individually, your character is going to look stiff and inanimate. think of gesture drawing as if it were like writing an outline to a school essay, before writing the essay! (in fact, i actually find that there are many components of gesture drawing which have wormed its way into my style.)
i guess face features are a different thing, because i tend to take bits and pieces of what i like from different artists' styles, and meld them into some alloy that is my style. sometimes i also do some face studies, but…not that much.
as for a general overall process to my artwork, i actually can’t give you a cookie-cutter recipe to do so; if you squint at my posts, you might notice that each does a different approach. it’s because i’m constantly experimenting with how i draw, and i’m constantly being inspired (re: borrowing some ideas) by many, many artists who do fantastic work all around. but...maybe i can give a simplified idea of my process, if that helps?
say that i'm drawing a character doing a thing. i would imagine the pose that the character is doing, maybe collect some references on said pose, and do a quick gesture draw using those references before drawing the character over that sketch while fixing proportions or whatever else. i guess an example of this would look something like:
Tumblr media
(i used this reference, which unfortunately isn't really a great example since it's a photo of a toy and not a human figure, but whatever.)
but as i said, this is pretty simplified for a process; the actual process depends! it can be hella messy, hella disorganized, and hella experimental. hell, most of the time i don't even follow the above two steps; for the sake of economizing my time (re: laziness), i tend to fall back on my mental library of poses (for the better or for the worse i guess). as for my coloring process...i'm still trying to figure that one out lmao
anyway, this is getting too long, my bad. well, i hope this answers some part or parts of your question. if not, feel free to ask more questions if you'd like!

i saw your post about the final ep of technoroid and i have really really long ask incoming, i'm sorry, I had to bc i have too much to say for the reply feature LMAO
I have answers to some of those questions as someone who's read the game story. first, I have to agree that it should've been two episodes. I feel like episodes 11 and 12 should've been 3 episodes, it would've been a much better pace. second, i also think the epilogue doesn't answer any questions. The game starts with KNOCC in sleep mode in some random storage room in Babel with no memories, and Stand Alone are all robots now, so I was REALLY dying to find out what happened. Stand Alone I could guess what happened, but the ending of the anime almost contradicts how KNOCC ends up. also, in the game, it seems like KNOCC's victory at the end of the anime was suppressed? because no one remembers who they are. Hell, even Bora doesn't (though he may just be withholding). The only ones who seem to remember who they are are Esora and Nobel. So I REALLY wanna know how it came to that. third, about Bora. i was also really looking forward to Bora's emotional awakening scene. in the game, he is a detective who has a lot of hatred for both the police and the WG (and also Babel). the latter makes sense, but the former?? he's full on ACAB in the game which is really fucking hilarious in my opinion. he's a high level climber in Babel too, but he doesn't partake much and only did it for the privileges of being "inside" the tower. (i also think he looks better with his headphones btw. i miss them. but he also looks completely different in game.) fourth, i was actually expecting something darker to have happened to kite (i think a lot of people who read the game story feel the same) and i had theories and shit in my head, so kite donating his organs by his free will was a bit anticlimactic for me? and as a kite fan myself i also felt like i really don't know enough about human him
fifth, about nobel. Yeah, no i'm lost too. in the game it's revealed that he's a "Dark Master" which is what illegal android builders are called. he says he does research on robotics but what it is specifically i have no idea. i'm pretty sure he built the two robots that are currently working as bora's partners in his detective agency, but it's a wild guess. sixth, there's a lot of in game story things I can't possibly cover in one single ask so feel free to hit me up i need someone to go insane about this franchise with
Thanks for reaching out! It's exciting to find other people getting into something I'm super new to. Between this ask and your big long awesome summary post, I'm beginning to suspect something about Technoroid the game vs Technoroid the anime... (This is one got long, oh boy)
I'm wondering if they may be slightly divergent timelines. You mention the anime is meant to be a sort of prequel/set-up to the events of the game, but the differences that arise between them lead me to suspect either a) some drastic changes happen over the time-skip (not unheard of but maybe unlikely? There are a lot of contradictions arising), or b) that they're not directly related. From what I gather, the game seems to be a much "darker" timeline to what the anime suggests may come to pass.
We can't rule out the possibility that things were changed on the anime side for the sake of telling a more coherent story, however. You can cram a lot more content into a game (esp a platform like a mobile/gatcha) than about 4.5 hrs of a single season of anime. Making changes to characters' motivations or backgrounds to simplify their arc just makes for cleaner presentation. Thinking specifically about Kite/Kaito here; there's absolutely a disconnect between his apparent fate in the game and his choices in the anime. We only had 12 episodes to introduce, characterize, and face-turn the mean rival character. It's a clear arc within that span, but doesn't connect cleanly to the events of Unison Heart because it was likely trimmed down for time and clarity. Plus a happy(ish) ending with only a mild amount of ambiguity is a nice way to wrap up a single-season run. (However it did just occur to me that the object Esola drops in the anime's timeskip ending is an apple... oh the symbolism, the foreshadowing!)
Still, the differences do offer some intrigue and a fair amount of room for theorizing and creating. This is exactly the kind of undefined space bloggers and fanfic writers thrive in, after all. There is apparently a manga currently in serialization so it's also possible it may tie things together, or even offer another "timeline" to the story. Who knows. I'll have to track it down and take a look. And I might have to play the damn gatcha game too...gr...
Regarding the apparent "suppression" of KNOCC's victory; on the one hand, that really sucks. They worked hard and literally braved death to get that win. On the other, from a real-world standpoint, I can kind of understand how they themselves end up kind of obscure. Consider how fast today's media cycle is, then amplify that into the near-ish future. A short-lived, "flash-in-the-pan" Climber group is liable to be forgotten pretty quickly, even if their success did mark a huge civil rights win for robot-kind. However we can't rule out the likely explanation that there may be some canon media suppression. We know the Exclusionists have those strings to pull and it would make perfect sense to do so. (As an aside, I wonder how "sleep-mode" interacts with the limited lifespan clause. Maybe it just puts their timer on "pause" for a while, like cryo-stasis would for a human...?)
Good to hear my boy Bora is making his way in the world and has some friends to help. It's kind of awesome that he went independent after downloading a conscience. What's that saying? There are no "good" cops because "good" cops quit? Blows my mind a bit to try to think of him as a Climber but I guess a) that's the game's main framing so he needs a reason to be there and b) Babel's performers do have a lot of social clout, it's prudent to get into that circle if you're, say, possibly investigating some political corruption. He also has that handsome voice, I bet he does just fine.
It tickles me that Nobel remains a weird, morally-dubious cryptid across both halves of this. I would expect nothing less, if I'm being honest. While I was mulling over this ask, I had a deep think about him illegally building androids and I realized something. Assuming little else changes about androids besides having personhood under the law (as in, no longer being able to be purchased or owned as property) and having limited lifespans... They're going to "die out." Presumably personhood complicates the process of "buying" (hiring from scratch?) an android, and if Exclusionist sympathies still persist, nobody's going to buy or build more androids. Society is still explicitly capitalist; there's little profit to be made from buying or selling a worker-entity that may decide to up and leave one day. All you'd be doing is essentially sponsoring a person into existence. Which is cool from a social standpoint but not a great business move. Nobel might just be taking it upon himself to perpetuate his "species" since he's realized it's not likely anyone else will. (And if that isn't the case, I'm damn well going to write about it because that shit is compelling to me.)
Well met, @ordinaryxtreme, I look forward to geeking out with you in the future 🤝

if you dont care about getting the characterization right why not just make your own characters? the point of liking a character is that you like the character? if you like them shouldnt you want to TRY and get their personality right? cause why do you like them otherwise, what makes them them other than their literal personality
Have you considered that maybe some people just don't want to make an OC? Making an entire world that is still unique yet has all the same elements of the original story that you enjoy is a lot of work, it can be rewarding and enjoyable but it's still a lot of work and you don't always end up with a product that you are happy with or that you like as much as the original story. Making an OC to insert into the preexisting story or replace that specific character is also fun but it isn't for everyone either. I did it before when I realised that a character in my longrunning AU just ended up being my own oc over time after I've been slowly changing and evolving their story over the course of 10 years, and I'm happy with it, but it's not for everyone.
I did simplify my stance on it for the sake of making a post that isn't 2 miles long, but getting the characterisation right isn't completely meaningless to me. I want to get a canon character's personality as close as I can if that's my goal, but it can be at times very hard for me and it takes a long time of writing them over and over again for me to nail it at times, but I'm also not too pressed when people don't have the same interpretation as me nor if they want to get the canon character's personality right. Again, it can be a lot of work and it's not for everyone. I do not care if a character has a different personality than their canon version as long as it's consistent and there's a good reason for it (either in-story or meta reason, I dislike characterisations that aim to change a character just to serve another character's story or to make other characters look better by comparison)
Sometimes, making Alternative Universes where a character's personality is different is fun. A butterfly effect, where one difference in their past cascades and fundamentally changes them as a person. Maybe giving them a different personality would serve the story you're trying to tell more. What if this happens to them, how would they change as a person? What if they were more y than x, how would it affect the story they're in and their relationships with other characters? How would it affect the other characters and their perception of them? If these events happen, if their life was completely different, if they were brought up differently, what kind of person would they be? It's just fun, and at the end of the day I think that's what's most important in fandom spaces. You should just have fun.
And yeah, that does mean that sometimes you will end up with a character that's more of an OC than a canon character, but what's so wrong with that? I mean, yeah, it happened, too bad...who does it hurt? The original author will probably never see it anyway and doesn't care, it doesn't affect you either, if you're bothered by it you can just move on.
And sometimes maybe they just read a character and interpreted it differently than you. Maybe they just can't get it right. Still, what's wrong with that?
I think having fights over such meaningless things is a bit silly. They're not hurting anyone, they're just having harmless fun, and if it bothers you so much why not just ignore it and focus on the things you enjoy and find fun? If they're not going out of their way to insist that their interpretation is the only correct one, if they're not going out of their way to be assholes about it, then what is the problem with that?
Some people treat canon like playdough or see it like an Unity asset store where they can build their own stories out of preexisting characters and world they enjoy, and sometimes that involves changing a character. You might see it differently and find enjoyment in different things, and that's fine! You don't need to even like how other people choose to have their fun. But neither is a better or worse way to enjoy the source material.

I haven't posted in a bit. Anyway I'm gonna bitch under a readmore as per usual.
I know I have a "the thing I hate abt the way people talk online' thing every other week. Anyway this time it's about like. The way people use "neurotypicals," and it isn't even beef with how people use "neurotypical" to mean "not mentally ill" when that's not even what it means.
There's smth about the way people use it that strikes me as odd bc people will be like "oh only neurotypicals get x" or "neurotypicals hate when u x" or whatever when it's like. Not even really related to any sort of neurotypicality or anything at all it's just like. Neurotypical is just used for "people who don't get it" which like. Sometimes is just "people not in on these niche internet memes" or "people not in fandom" like I guarantee you getting annoyed at someone for making everything an anime or meme reference is not "#neurotypical things" or whatever it's just that they don't get it. Am I making sense? My brain feels at like 30% charge today.
IDK I think it's also weird bc it's used in really weird ways sometimes and like. I think people are getting too comfortable w the idea that "neurotypical" just means "people who are rude to me/don't get me" which is weird not only bc you're assuming someone else's mental wellness or whatever but also bc there are absolutely mentally ill, autistic, etc people who will also do those things.
Esp when it's used in like. IDK ways where it's like "oh neurotypicals don't understand that I can't do the dishes bc I've been playing my fave video game" or some shit like that like it's circling right back to "autism = childish behavior" sometimes. Like some things that people label as #neurodiversity are just like. Refusing to learn, being rude, being childish etc. And a lot of things labelled that way are harmless (like. While it's annoying to label "obsessed with anime characters" as a #neurodiversity trait it's mostly just annoying) there's def some things I think will have greater consequences, mostly stuff related to like. Interpersonal relationships. Like I do obvi understand they're gonna be different for ppl w diff brains n stuff. But simplifying things to "the way Neurodiverse people Do Thing (correct)" and "the way Neurotypicals Do Thing (incorrect)" is so. Reductive and pointless but also often? Bad. Not being able to communicate your feelings and just stewing in resentment isn't #neurodiversitythingz it's emotional immaturity and they're not the same thing. Like autistic ppl do have more trouble than neurotypical ppl w labelling and communicating our feelings but that isn't an excuse to just be like "LOL it's #neurodiversity Neurotypicals™ need to deal w it" bc it's also harming like. Other not-neurotypical people. I guess I'm just tired of people hijacking the idea that autistic people don't need to change just for the sake of "not being weird" just to say that autistic people never need to change or grow...ever. bc that's not really. What that's supposed to be about. Autistic/mentally ill/etc people also do need to grow and mature etc just like #Neurotypicals (if there is such a thing, which also brings the idea that people are reframing the fight against a systemic issue to a fight against individual people they perceive as not mentally ill)
IDK it's just. Immature to me. Also so...dismissive of people who don't fit into your mold of what you think mental illness/autism looks like.
IDK if this makes sense. I'm just bitching bc if I see another post that's like this I'm gonna flip a table I think. It's given me such a knee-jerk reaction to any post about "neurotypicals" bc I just automatically assume it's bullshit.

Hello, Miss @minijenn, So I created this mini kingdom hearts comic sketch/storyboard. It's not done and I'll have a little explanation and +maybe a follow-up sketch? If anyone would like that...
But for the sake of having 20 million KH projects since the "go ahead" and the fear of never posting not even one I thought it would be nice for you to see some of these sketches, especially this comic one I made.
I don't think you understand Ms. Jen how much you inspired and motivated me within the few months.
I have a deep love for your story Keys and in the many years of reading I believe it is not only the best and only best series within the KH fanfiction/archive of our own readings but the best one ever written (Plus art! never forget the awesome art!)
So, I hope you enjoy it!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So... this might be a little confusing... but I can explain!
So for the comic here is a simplified version of it if you don't want to read too much.
Sora becomes the puppet and pawn of Malfeincent and Master X. and gets merged with Vanitas.
He has amnesia and follows their orders.
Kairi and Riku had been looking for his world after world but lost the charms that Kairi made them.
Sora who had been watching them decides to make an appearance by maleficent orders to take them down.
Sora gets a sudden headache at his familiar name as he was renamed The prince of Darkness or 'prince' or 'my prince'
His thrill and craving for violence and fight (on Vanita's part) fight Riku
-o-
And that's it... but if you want a follow-up for this, I'll try and see if I have time. I didn't want to be creepy or anything but ironically enough I had also moved to a new apartment and went on a vacation and now I am bedridden and locked in my room for fear of mosquitos that have literally bitten every inch of my body.
since I can't rant this to many people I'll just say the good and bad news about the move.
The good news is I had moved into a 100+ yr old victorian old apartment.
The bad news is I had moved into a 100+yr old victorian era old apartment...
It's disgusting and I hate it because it needs a lot of heavy repairs and guess who has to clean up a lot of some really disgusting things?
you guessed it! ME!
I am giving a warning to anyone who even thinks of coming to Egypt for a vacation.. this place is a literal hell.
If you want to go to hell come to Egypt.
-o-
Hers's a longer explanation of my thoughts if you would like to read it:
So this has a lot of Keys influence in it as well as other KH lore and my Ideas.
So... what if somewhere along with the plot of keys (and this would be if Maleficent had been still alive) Sora is at his weakest... His darkened heart was just a flick away at completely fragmenting. Vanitas appears in front of the argument about who keeps Sora. Master X. as his vessel or Maleficent as her pet. Vanitas is angry at both choices and more pissed off at Sora for being weak and stabs Sora with his Keyblade.
Now, Vanitas at this moment holds a lot more light than Sora but a great portion of darkness as well and they strangely fit in harmony and they merge. But they don't quite forge the X-Blade... although their bodies had synchronized perfectly their minds definitely were not.
Sora's mind becomes lost, fragmented, and broken. A broken record between now, then, and futurewise.
Vanitas tries to rein in Sora's mind, tries to shake him out of this stupor he was in but to no avail.
Between the screaming, self-pity, anagizing of Soras display Vanitas makes the heavy choice of taking the lead of their bodies.
But because a large majority of control comes from sora Vanitas focuses primarily on suppressing Sora all the way down within their mind and heart, sealing the boy safe and tucked.
Doing so, a large portion of Vanitas's mind gets stuck with that task and hence he has quite a bit of Amnesia but he keeps a lot of his personality but a lot of features of our current sora from keys plus some added features.
Maleficent and Master X. meet at a compromise after finding out that sora/vanitas conveniently has amnesia. Using it to their advantage and other influence Sora/Vanitas become the ultimate Heartless Vessel.
The horns and tail claimed. plus green eyes by maleficent.
The Dark purple skin of darkness and Yellow eyes of Master X.
The small Red part in his eyes represents Vanitas plus a lot of his personality is influenced by Sora's body and actions.
also, Maleficent has so much influence on Sora that he thinks of her as his 'original' mother figure and 'fixes' the cracks of Sora's keyblade with her poisonous vines.
So now, once again... Sora is Maleficent's servant and Master X's puppet... He stands as the face of darkness... A prince if you will... the prince of darkness...and destruction.

hi! i saw your post about aro/ace exclusion. could you explain exactly what that is? i’ve seen some posts that confused me about what aro/ace is. i would love to be able to be inclusive towards aro/ace people. ❤️
no problem! disclaimer that i am not aro or ace myself, so i recommend doing additional research / talking to aros and aces!
basically, aro is short for aromantic, or people who don’t feel romantic attraction. ace is short for asexual, or people who don’t feel sexual attraction. (there are also the ace and aro spectrums for people who might feel small levels of attraction, or who only feel attraction under very specific circumstances, but for the sake of simplicity we’ll stick to the most common definitions of the terms.)
some asexuals do experience romantic attraction, and some aromantics do experience sexual attraction. for example, a biromantic asexual might feel romantic attraction to multiple genders, but not feel sexual attraction to anyone. an aromantic homosexual might feel sexual attraction to their same gender, but not feel romantic attraction to anyone. many people are both aromantic and asexual, and do not feel romantic or sexual attraction to anyone, period. this model of attraction is referred to as the split attraction model. many aces and aros use it, but some do not and choose to identify only as asexual or aromantic, and that’s valid too!
nowadays, most people accept aces and aros as part of the lgbtqia+ community by default. however, there is a very loud minority who don’t believe aces and aros have a place in the lgbtqia+ community. this minority argues that aces and aros are not oppressed to the same degree as other sexual and gender minorities and therefore don’t belong in the same community. this argument is bullshit for a lot of reasons (aces and aros do, in fact, face discrimination in many ways, from conversion therapies to institutional and financial discrimination against unmarried people down to societal prejudices against people who don’t want a sexual or romantic relationship), but it also frames the lgbtqia+ community as being defined by suffering when it isn’t and shouldn’t be. aces and aros belong here and always have—that’s what the a stands for!
the best way to be a good ally to aces and aros is to listen to them and educate yourself about ace and aro culture and identity. make friends with aces and aros, learn about their experiences, their feelings, their lives. learn about how they’ve been affected by exclusion and prejudice. learn about how their attraction and lack thereof factors into their identity and life. most of all, just be kind and get to know people! the ace and aro communities are really fun and vibrant and full of awesome, kind people.
hope this answered your question, sorry i was a bit long winded!
ADDENDUM: please keep in mind that this is an EXTREMELY simplified explanation of a very vast and diverse community! no two aces or aros are exactly the same and they all have different experiences. i was being very very simple here just because there is a lot of complexity and it would take ages to write it all down, so this is the very basic definition!

I mald about my webtoon for God knows how long (IlluEden 3-2 post update notes)
I realize I never actually made a post about IlluEden at all, which is a shame because it's my favorite beloved-yet-often-forgotten oc project that I genuinely want to complete!
Tumblr media
Obligatory plug first:
So Ep 3-2 released a while ago, which was an interesting event because E3-1 released in... October. Unfortunately I ran out of my buffer once I realized that at the speed of my planned weekly or biweekly upload schedule, I'd be uploading like 5 panels per ep and story immersion would get ruined :(
As a result, I ended up reworking basically the entire script so far in order to have longer, more substantial episodes, which also combined with my low priority for the comic to mean that almost half a year in, these two have only. Just. Met.
YES IT'S MY FAULT YES I BIT OFF MORE THAN I COULD CHEW YES I SHOULD HAVE SIMPLIFIED MY STYLE MORE
But I look at some of my panels and I'm like "ZAMNNNNNNN" because these blorbos are taking over my existence
Tumblr media
like just...kmmdjdmishfjdksnsb
My babies;;;; my precious;;;;; I can't wait to inflict pain and suffering upon you both;;;;
Anyways there's a few details I always want to write in that often get cut out for redundancy, but sometimes they're cute little tidbits so I'd like to share them too.
This time, I'll just share a bunch of stuff from the beginning up to the most recent chap.
Tumblr media
Originally, I was going to show Astra falling down a cliff, giving him these injuries. For his sake, I changed it. Also because I wanted the focus to be the shooting star (I could really use a wish right now, wish right now, wish right now)
Tumblr media
Despite him being literally clad in pure white, Lucifer's design changed like a good 3 times in the past 3 episodes. It's going to change again, these aren't his normal clothes. And it'll also keep changing because I guess he's my fashionista for some reason.
Tumblr media
Astra, on the other hand, has kept this design since its inception. Well, minor detail change but for the most part, he has like one outfit.
Tumblr media
On the topic of Astra, I wasn't expecting the two protagonists to turn out so antagonistic towards each other! Or well... antagonistic is a bad word, probably. Lucifer may be (from what I hope I've shown) quite sympathetic l, but I think even he has limits for how much groaning and grumbling he can take. As a result, 3-2 managed to have a bit more cheerful vibe than I expected, as a light comedic mood comes from the contrast of Lucifer's and Astra's demeanors.
Of course, this contrast may not all be lighthearted. As much as Astra is an edgy emo boi, perhaps that stems from his roots or insecurities. And as much as Lucifer tries to distract from his situation, he evidently knows the true gravity of being an "ex-" archangel.
But will it be addressed in the next episode? Or will I derail the story and turn it into fantasy romcom between high schoolers trapped in another world? Who knows? Not me, that's for sure. I only guide the story, it weaves its path by itself.
That's the end of my rambling on 3-2, I'll see y'all at EP4-1!

With that post talking about same gender attraction being what gay and bi are… i gotta ask… given genders are culture … do you think it is cultural to be gay or bi or straight … or do you think orientation evolved and gender is evolved too? If so does that mean sex stereotypes evolved as real…? Does it mean “homosexuality” in other nonhuman species isn’t actually homosexuality because we are just going off of sex and not gender…? Or is there cultural orientation (gender based) AND innate orientation (sex based) in humans? And then other animals with sexes just have the sex based ones.
hello anon!! that's an interesting question i'd say you hit the mark at the end there, it's a bit of both!
now the reason i say it's both is given two hypothetical lesbians, one might be into boobs and against taking men as romantic/sexual partners while the other is into the concept of femininity and also boobs. now given a feminine man, lesbian one wouldn't really care for him while lesbian two might find him attractive in an aesthetic sense. these two, despite sharing a label, have very different experiences of lesbianhood and while they do share qualities in common that could be chalked up to genetics (boob-likers) their environments and respective politics (and here i don't mean who they voted for last election i'm speaking of broader mindsets like their views on feminism or economics) have had an arguably larger impact on them. going back to the hypothetical lesbians, lesbian one could be anti-men in general and believes in gender segregation, or she might enjoy the company of men but simply have no interest in them aside from platonically. the first explanation is cultural/social while the second is more genetic and both are equally plausible!
(sidenote: an interesting thing i've been meaning to learn more about is the evolution of sexuality from something you /do/ (have sex for the sake of having children and all else is sacrilege and immoral) to something you are/feel (the construction of a heterosexual identity as "good", normal and healthy in direct opposition to the queer, outcast and sick homosexual) [Straight: The Surprisingly Short History of Heterosexuality, Hanne Blank])
as for animals.. since gender n sexuality r both rooted in the framework of the society they're in (a simplified example being how bees have very limited scripts for thier gender roles where female bees could be either workers or queens and male bees have to be drones*) it's hard to concretely answer without being an expert on how specific animal societies are structured. but i do think it's interesting to note that as you move up the intelligence chain, the focus shifts from the collective onto the individual, i.e the inner life of a monkey is much more vibrant than that of a bee and while an ant can be conceptualised easily as part of a whole (think swarms of ants carrying off a bit of food) elephants are much harder to imagine in groups bigger than, say, ten or so. [The Second Sex, Simone de Beauvoir]
*i realised after i wrote that that this implies that worker is a different gender from queen, food for thought
anyway thank you for asking this, it was fun to answer! anyone else is free to pitch in with their thoughts if you want :}

headcannons for sunlit knight? (jaune ruby and yang together)
For any stranger whose just scrolling, I feel the responsibility one this one specifically to tell you this is a smut post.
I’m probably gonna burn for this considering I’ve technically wrote this. For my own sake I’m gonna think of this from a Lasting Embers perspective. (AKA, they are like in their early 40s)
[Just to set the stage a little]
To make a long backstory short and simplified, Jaune dated Yang and they had falling out for emotional reasons. Ruby and Jaune eventually date; Ruby has always had a crush on Jaune and he very much does love her. More like time passes until Ruby, loving her sister and seeing just how much sorrow has been feeling in life and honestly regretting how things ended, takes the emotional bullet; making the decision to tell Jaune him and Yang should try to mend what broke because their was real love there as well. (Both relationships did make it to the point of sleeping with each other)
Many years pass. Yang and Jaune are married. Events happen that has left Ruby single for an incredibly long time. Yang, in her very loving and Yang Xiao Long way, has let Ruby and Jaune know it’s okay if they wanted to be intimate with one another. They call her crazy, she says “aye I’m just saying I’d allow it.” She wants her little sister to feel intimate love she has been missing. Things slowly build towards it, shenanigans ensue, Ruby can’t believe how okay she slowly becomes with it, and Jaune also can’t really fathom how history has repeated itself. He’s now certain Tai also stumbled into this experience via Raven or Summer.
Fun Fact:If you think this what the main plot of Lasting Embers is, you’d be incorrect. It’s a subplot at best. I’m nuts.😂 Also Yang and Ruby haven’t been home for an incredibly long time because of a mission.
[The actual smut answer to the question]
Jaune and Yang is pretty passionate. There’s not too much talking, more if Yang’s wrist’s pinned above her head while she’s biting his lip during their make out session. As forward as she is, Yang is actually more of a bottom and enjoys the body worship. Jaune never fails to kiss her all over basically give her a full body massage with the way his hands travel along her figure. All the buttering up puts her in a loving daze. She knows Jaune is still a sheepish guy at heart, so she always puts on a bit of a performance to fluster him; seductive moans, slightly exaggerated hums when blowing him, mischievous weak, and hip sways. You would think he’d be used to it as her husband. Nope. He still can’t believe it; a never ending dream that she honestly thinks is very sweet.
Yang is a bit embarrassed to admit it’s less of a performance and quite a real reaction whenever they actually have sex. Jaune loves his wife, hard. Yang can manage to keep most of her composure when he puts her on her back. Something about his gaze gets her heart fluttering and her mind off his hip’s relentless attack. It’s not the same story if he’s behind her. Just like when she sways her hips, Jaune is a big fan of the way her ass moves when his hips smack into it. He’s careful not to be too rough since that’s never been Yang’s favorite, but she loves it when he is forceful. Yang has torn a few sheets with how hard she grips them; especially if Jaune decides to play with her boobs in tandem. All the stimulation is too hot to handle. Yang never lasts too long when Jaune’s being this merciless. They’ll typically go three or maybe four rounds, making out plenty in between them.
Jaune and Ruby is a different story of sorts. The passion is less like a bonefire and more like raining sparks. Their kisses are intense and a hasty nature to their actions. Ruby loves to straddle the blonde, clinging to him while his mouth plays with her oh so sensitive nipples, or marks her neck. Unlike her older sister, Ruby wants things to get rough, while their words remain blissfully sweet with care and a clear need for this kind of pleasure. These things melt the loving woman, spurring her forward. Jaune’s always adored all of Ruby’s gasps and the way she rocked her body against his. It was impossible to tell who was making the other go deeper into a frenzy.
The sex isn’t much calmer. Ruby always wants a ride, taking the lead by working her hips on him. He’d be at her mercy if he didn’t amp things up by grabbing her rear and making the pace more frantic and intense. Ruby could never attempt to hide her voice and just how much she was feeling it. If she wasn’t careful, Jaune would lean forward until she has to prop herself up, allowing him to hit unreasonably deep. Losing the top advantage didn’t hurt much with how adamant her legs remained opened for Jaune to keep close, kissing her tons. It always feels like tension builds and vanishes amazingly between them. The chemistry between them is unpredictable. Given the right circumstances, they could spend hours fucking.
Speaking of right circumstances, (I feel my sins) Ruby will occasionally join Jaune and Yang if she’s really in the mood and doesn’t care. It’s very much a “Ah fuck it” mentality. Though there’s still visible embarrassment written on her face. Her attitude in bed does a bit of a 180. Yang knows to let Jaune ease Ruby into the situation while she waits for an opportunity to join into the mix. Typically that ends up with Ruby head on Yangs lap or Ruby’s body being braced by her; forced to endure scandalous dirty whispers in her ear about the current situation she’s in. It works entirely too well on her to the point it’s flustering, but Ruby doesn’t want it to stop either.
Yang is dangerous. She really is the match that sets off the gasoline in this situation, leaning more into putting on a show, now with a lovely assistant. Jaune doesn’t outwardly ask or expect the girls to do anything together. But ya know, it’s not hard for them to guess the potential fantasies their dork would have; and Ruby in the midst of pleasure is more agreeable to her sister’s scheming mind. Not only will they tease Jaune at the same time for a memorable view, but also tempt him be more ravenous by getting a little handsy with one another; going as far as kissing. Yang’s smirk is practically permanent why Ruby looks reminiscent of her blubbering self back at Beacon.
Yang has to remember to be careful though. Ruby is a firm believer in payback. Jaune eventually will be completely focused on Yang and if Ruby rests long enough, she’ll find anyway to make his merciless assault even more stimulating. Light pulling of hair, persistent rubbing and bites; Ruby will more than dish out whatever Yang gave, going as far as making a bit dominant over her. Ruby knew her sis was a softy and tender at heart, but she never would’ve guessed that she’s pretty submissive.
Threesomes never last as long, mainly because Jaune would die. He very much tries to prioritize them more just on the simple fact it will take no time in the grand scheme of things whenever they both pounce on him. The three of them together is certainly more intense than when I they’re solo. Everyone knows what buttons to push. No one is left unsatisfied. Post nut clarity hits like a tank. Jaune and Yang always look at Ruby who without fail, looks like she has just witnessed the end of the world as she thinks about all the things she just did. Jaune just sorta pats her heard while Yang snickers. Maybe it’s the fact she’s had to share basically everything with Ruby and years of bathing together even in adulthood due to missions and schools. The day someone doesn’t want to do it anymore, it’ll end. Simple as that.
Welp, that’s the all I got I think. Can’t say I regret my choices, but I can’t say I’m proud of them either lol. Though in the grand scheme of fan fiction and head canons, this is nothing compared to 97% of Archive of our Own so I don’t feel bad this exists 😅

Rune factory 5 Initial Thoughts
Hi! I'm a little frustrated because I already had a paragraph typed out but this site is atrocious especially on a tablet. I usually use mobile but it really fucks my phone's battery up so I'm using my tablet to write this. excuse any errors please.
So I'm about 6-7 hours in and I thought I'd give my first impression instead of waiting to do a full one and then come back when I finish and give final thoughts. I just unlocked Lucas.
I'm going to begin with cons and reminder that these are all opinions. You're entitled to your own, as well. I'll use a bulleted simplified list so people don't need to read paragraphs upon paragraphs and lose focus.
Keep in mind when reading this and playing the game that its the first in years and the first on the switch, plus the first 3d one in years. The team probably didn't have enough funding to do a lot of things that I'm sure they would have liked to do. That all being said, even with cons it's still really fun! I think a few patches would fix things up quite a bit.
Other things are just personal opinions that I have that I think would improve this or be good notes for their future games. Course I doubt anyone from xseed or marvelous will even see this, but oh well. I still recommend buying it on sale they get funding to make better future ones, plus it's still really fun!
• Some functions are flat out broke or don't work as intended. Auto camera and farm camera are almost impossible to use. Good thought not good execution. The farm camera shows the top of your character and field while you farm, thankfully you can turn both of these off. These matched with the fact that aiming is HELL doesn't pair well.
• Framerates and skidding. The game wants to go faster than it actually is running. What I mean by this is you're constantly running fast aaand then the game goes real slow. Loading screens are a bit long too. If youre running and then take something out, you slide.
• Placing and aiming are both hell. Especially trying to straighten furniture.
• Glitching happens often but I think it's as a result of frame rate.
• No transition animations so sometimes things look choppy. Ie I saw people giving characters wine and they clip straight on the ground, if they sit on a bench, they don't squat from what I've seen, they just suddenly go from stand to sit. This could be a glitch but I've seen it on multiple people's games so far.
My opinions. Again these are only my thoughts and feelings, really the whole post is just how I'm initially feeling. These also list some pros so I won't make a list for pros, because these are the rest of my thoughts.
• Dialogue is lacking. Where rf4 is charming and has so many lines, rf5 is repetitive dialogue. Don't get me wrong, the characters are still fun and charming. They just repeat, a lot. I believe it could be fixed by a patch, but it'd probably take them...a lot of time even if dialogue is randomized.
• The running animation looks wonky, this is a bit picky so not too important.
• The game is GORGEOUS, but I think different mix ups in texture and more trees would've been nice. I also think the mountain areas should've been worked on more to look more rocky than smooth.
• whyyyyyyy did the seed captain have to look like she's 10. enough dragon girls looking like kids I want milf dragons.
• Fuuka barking and growling really freaks me out too much to romance her? I have to for the sake of the blog and opinions on romance options but I'm not looking forward to it. I try to brush it off but in the end I hope she starts like. using human speak more.
• The town is huge which. I like but it makes it a little hard for me to navigate, some parts of the town and game in general don't look like they have much detail than others.
• Priscilla and Lucy are gfs no doubt. This isnt an opinion on the game but I hope they bring rival romance back.
• The game is really fun once you get used to the new controls.
• Characters are still really fun and a joy to talk to when they have a new line!
• Time going slower is a little annoying. I often get stuck waiting for a character to show up somewhere.
• I like how easy it is to know where a heart event is and who's, don't like how I accidentally triggered Lucy's trying to walk by her and find another character. I have about 6 events to do, because romance seems faster than rf4, it's just the waiting of characters to show up the next day to finish the event that irritates me.
• I just unlocked Lucas and have no idea what's going on in the main story yet, hoping that is about to change.
• LOVE that there's marriage between any gender now. Now I just wish we could get some older looking romance options!
• farming dragon is neat but I wish I could pet it
• I like how easy switching weapons is
• martin is best boy
so.. in my opinion! definitely worth a play and new games will probably improve if enough people buy it! any issues aside it's still fun!
