MY TAKE ON THE CANON PJO/HOO SHIPS:
Percabeth
Okay so, I’ma be real. I was kinda disappointed when they got together. I thought we were gonna have “Not Every Boy/Girl relationship is Romantic” representation. But as I read more of their relationship after that, I learned to love their relationship, because its not ALL romantic. They still have that same close friendship they did before they got together and I love that. Their 5 book build up was absolutely awesome tho tbh. Love a slowburn. They are genuinely cute, silly and fun. They are the old married couple at camp teaching the campers cool stuff together. They really compliment each other. Something so personal and perfect about their relationship is that they are both different kinda of smart. Percy is street smart and Annabeth is academically smart. Also, they are both strategic in their own ways and are strong af. The fact that they are basically each other and healing the other while healing themself is precious to me. They are both insecure and feeling lonely in a demigod world, but they found and completed each other.
Jasper
Yeah, no. Super forced, and not stable. Piper is loving someone who she doesn’t even know, hence her having false memories of him. Jason doesn’t even know her and instantly fell in love. Personally, I’m not a believer in love at first sight. You have to get to know the person to truly love them for all they are. Piper is insecure and a girlboss and this relationship is keeping her alive in HoO, because she is so angry at the world. She’s living off Jason practically and thats not healthy for either of them. Jason is progressively learning about her, but it’s so middle school relationship stuff. Its really shallow love and Piper needs more than that as a child of Aphrodite. Jason needs that too because that’s just how he is but they’re relationship is built of the stress and desperation of war. So yeah. Sorry if this isn’t accurate, I haven’t read HoO in a bit and I’m not good with characters lol.
Frazel
They’re cute tbh. Age gap is a little scary, but I read something proving that they’re closer in age if you look closely. Anyways, I really like these two. They were crushing on each other before war and were really the only ones there for each other before Percy came to save the day for the Fifth Cohort. They literally had a normal crush on each other, like Percabeth but they didn’t do anything super dangerous together that brought them closer I’m guessing. Their quest with Percy brought out parts of Hazel and Frank that they needed to learn about in order to pursue a healthy relationship. They learned of each other’s pasts. On the Argo II, Frank being jealous of Leo is so cute honestly. Hazel comforting him for it too is awesome and its a cool dynamic. They are just a cool, calm, awesome power couple. They are super powerful and it was so cool to see them discover themselves together and loving each other for it. And interracial representation?? Hello?? Awesome rep, I think. Their cultural differences didn’t stop them and that’s so good for them.
Caleo
No. Just, hell no. It’s a relationship sculpted of desperation. Calypso being nice to him all of a sudden on the beach was uncalled for. Enemies to lovers can NEVER be rushed. They were super rushed. Both of them are desperate too. Calypso was desperate to get off her island and Leo was desperate for a partner after seeing everyone else have one. That is not healthy ‼️‼️ Also, Calypso is mean to Leo?!?! Calypso is bossy and kinda sorta rude to him. Like, hello??!? Leo is a little blinded by the desperation of love to realize this. If they really wanna make it work, get couples counseling from Percabeth, they are by far the healthiest couple. Caleo was def something Rick pulled outta his ass.
Solangelo
Solangelo is my biggest ship, I love them, but I do have some opinions fs. First of all, they are beautiful in theory. I love thinking of what they could’ve been. Yeah the canon’s cool, but Rick doesn’t know how to write gay characters. So most their content is different from the straight couple until TSATS. TSATS was much better writing. Rick had helped from a queer author so they acted like any other couple once again. Second, I love their simplicity. Like, they saw each other in war, thought the other was cute and was like “oh what the the heck?” and eventually got together after the war showing it was not desperation but real. Honestly, I think it started out as a crush then some shallow dating, but after being through the Tower of Nero and that whole thing, it started to get more real. In TSATS, we see them get a deeper connection. They’re whole little shallow crush thing is getting deeper and that dynamic is awesome. Also, they complement each other, and they’re dynamics are awesome. But I really love that they teach each other things. Like Will teaching Nico to embrace his light but to not forget his darkness. Nico teaching Will to embrace his darkness but not to forget his light. They are learning to be healthy and how to do this relationship stuff. I could go on forever about them and not be done so I’ll stop here.
I think that’s all, so yeah!!! I would love to hear agree/disagreements btw :)

what do u think good dyslexia rep looks like? i was thinking abt writing a story with a dyslexic character but idk how much i know
what are your experiences with it like?
Hum... hard question.
For representation
The first dyslexic character that comes to mind is Ryder Lynn from Glee. In my opinion the show deals with it in a very good way. He also happens to be the first dyslexic character I’ve ever seen. But his story did touch me a lot. What I like about his representation is that he isn’t dumb, he isn’t inferieur to the other characters he’s just slightly different. In the show we see him getting his dyagnosis, and that is a thing that always brings me to tears. Because seeing a character struggle with something and then realise that they aren’t dumb their just a little different is one of my favourit things.
I think the most famous representation is Percy Jackson, and I don’t know other people’s opinion on the representation that he brings. But personaly I don’t like it. Since the movie has come out I’ve had so many people ask me if letters dance around like in the movie. I don’t mind Percy Jackson being dyslexic, quite the contrary, so many more people are aware of it because of him, but just not in the right way. Yes letters dancing around can be a symptom of dyslexia, but not every dyslexic has that symptom.
I guess what would be the best way to make an accurate representation of dyslexia is to concider all the different way it could after someone, but also not make it the only thing the character is about. Unless you want to right a story specificaly about that stuggle(in which case go watch the episode of glee about Ryder Lynn’s dyslexia 4x07).
For my specific experiance with dyslexia here are a few of the ways my dyslexia shows up on a normal day to day basis:
1. Unless the information is concise and well presented, i have to read phrases multiple times to understand there meaning. Like it takes me a lot longer to read a plain paragraphe then a graph with the exact same amount of words. Visual support can be a great help to understand that words have a meaning. (this video by theodd1out really explains well the problem of understanding that words aren’t just there but that they also have meaning (time code 3:36) also watch the whole thing its really great)
2. Reading the wrong words. This is especialy a struggle when I have to read something outloud that I haven’t read before. I guess how I could describ it is you know when you think you see a shape but it turns out to be something else? well that but with words. and sometimes it can change the whole meaning of a sentance. It can really bring you out of what you are reading because suddenly your like: why are we talking about this thing?
3. Now I’m not sure if this is dyslexia related, or dysgraphia related, or ADHD related, but probably all three. I was a late talker. Now the thing you need to know is I talk a lot. I like to talk an have conversation. I have a need to fill the silance. But when I watch video of me as a very young child it’s creepy how much I don’t talk and rely on everyone else to just know what I need or want.
4. Because of my dyslexia I get discourage by reading very easily, especially with reading assignment in school. Image all the kids ligning up for a race and then the teacher blows the wisle to go. So you start running and you think your making good time, so you look up and no one is around you. A few have already finished and the closet student is still a few meters in front of you. You know you’ll never catch up, so what’s the point in running the race? And later on you find out you were running an obstical course and everyone else was just running in a streight line and it seems unfaire and now you know that there are ways to get over those obstical but you still associate running with that feeling of being behind on everyone so you never run again. Sorry that metaphore is a bit long
5. This just like number 3 is just a fact of being ND. Being told you could be great if you just worked harder, if you applied yourself more. I hate hearing that, I think everyone does. But what did it say in my report card every year? I’m gonna let you guess.
6. reading supports are a great help. computer voices that read what you write because you cant read it back to yourself to know if its right because you won’t be reading it right in the first place. Or audio book are also a great help and alternative to physical books, and screw anyone who says that reading an audio book doesn’t count as reading a book.
7. I have gotten used to reading and rereading directions and instruction. And asking for specification or repharsing just to be sure I read stuff right. but I do try my best to do as little reading as possible.
I’m not sure if I’ve answered you’re question, but I hope it helps. You can always send a new ask if I missed something you wanted to know about.

Dumb Details From the Loki Trailer I noticed but then got too serious about
First - apparently it’s not a trailer, so I guess we’ll get ‘Trailer 1′ later? ‘Exclusive Clip’ hardly seems accurate, but hey, I’m not Disney’s marketing division. I wouldn’t live in a shoebox if I was.
Dumb detail no. 1:
Tumblr media
Owen Wilson’s jacket is...weird. Look closely.
Tumblr media
And another shot:
Tumblr media
Yeah...his jacket has a ‘reversed collar’. It’s a cut-out rather than cloth folding on top. Huh. What a strange design choice. What could it mean?
I’ve no idea, but that I watched the trailer enough times to notice this should concern you.
Detail No. 2
Tumblr media
In this scene, we see what we can presume to be President Loki’s ‘Throne’. Notice the candy-canes. This is a Santa Claus throne, presumably from some mall Santa. This whole place might be in a mall, judging by the stuff in it.
But the Loki in this shot is not President Loki. Notice that he’s wearing brown pants, a thin brown tie, and the beige shirt he’s seen wearing in other parts of the trailer after he's apparently joined the TVA. President Loki wears black pants, a green vest and a wide green tie with a golden clip that resembles Loki’s little chevron he always has (more on that later).
So it would seem that Loki might meet President Loki here. President Loki might even be addressing him at the end of the trailer. It’s possible that his minions turn on him because there’s two Lokis and they don’t know which is the ‘imposter’.
Tumblr media
Speaking of, there’s a minion with bicycle handlebars grafted to a football helmet here, likely meant to resemble Loki. I dig it. There’s also cans of food scattered among the rubbish here. Makes sense that food production is non-existent since everyone has resorted to wearing license plates and spoons. Love how tattered the whole aesthetic is.
This reminds me of the opening Michael Waldron’s script ‘Worst Guy of All Time’, which featured a similar post-apocalyptic setting after the ‘worst guy’ ruins everything and makes himself king of the ashes. That’s likely what’s happened here, but I hope that Loki isn’t anything like Logan Paul, who was the inspiration for that title character.
Tumblr media
Ah, the mysterious female character watching a meteor shower WAY TOO CLOSE UP. But my eyes are drawn to one thing...
Tumblr media
What is that oblong object with a shiny handle? Could it be...
Tumblr media
A sword? I do love swords. Did you know there’s a bunch of pictures of me in the stock photos for ‘Fencing?’ That’s my cred for loving swords.
I suspect that this female character will be an amalgamation of Amora (shudder) and Sylvie and an alternate Loki of some kind. This sword is currently in her possession, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it or another timeline version of it becomes the Loki Show’s Loki′s weapon.
Loki has lacked a ‘weapon of his own’ in the MCU for quite some time. I mean, yes, he has his little knives, but they are many and disposable and something he chose for himself, rather than the two legendary weapons wielded by Odin and Thor, Gungnir and Mjolnir. In fact, throughout his appearances, Loki has seemed to want such a thing of his own - he briefly had Gungnir, and then the Gungnir-like scepter, and even tried to lift Mjolnir.
One might ask why Odin would’ve overlooked such an obvious show of favouritism. Why give Thor a storied weapon and leave Loki empty-handed? Heck, even Hela had the Necroblade.
In Thor 1, we might’ve assumed that the Casket of Ancient Winters was perhaps intended one day to be given to Loki, as it is shown with Mjolnir in the Vault and thus connected to it and the children who would inherit it.  But in the comics, Odin did have another weapon of storied history put away for his second son: Gram the Sword.
It was locked for eons by Odin in a special vault which required five keys to be opened, and it was meant to be for Loki if he be worthy.[2] The five keys were infused by Odin with the powers of "journeys", "endurance", "secrets", "new beginnings", and "brotherhood", respectively.[3]
The sword, like everything else in comics, has a complicated history full of take-backs and twists, but let’s just leave it at ‘it’s a representation of Loki’s worthiness and belonging in the trifecta with Odin and Thor as a King of Asgard’. It gives him ‘equality’.
In the original mythology, it’s wielded by Sigurd to kill the dragon Fafnir, and the only relation it has to Loki is that Loki is partially responsible for Fafnir existing in the first place (my username is nod to this myth by the by. Sorry Ottär.) But hey, maybe that means we’re getting a dragon? The Fafnir would be very cool.
Or it could just be a bit of rebar in this mining quarry.
Then again...it appears somewhere else...
Tumblr media
It’s easier to see in motion, but that’s a sword swinging on this person’s back.
Tumblr media
So the hooded figure is this lady...shall we call her Amylkie? Does that mean she’s the antagonist of this show? Well...maybe, but I suspect the true antagonist is foreshadowed here  -
Tumblr media
So, what’s going on here? A young girl (Young Amylkie? Some other TVA prisoner that the guard is watching over? An oracle, A Norn, or a kid who wandered off from the tour group in a basilica somewhere?) She’s giving Mobius M. Mobius a...piece of chocolate. Maybe he saw a Dementor, I dunno. I suspect it’ll be a MacGuffin of some kind later. He looks pretty concerned here, which contrasts with his ‘another day at the office’ blaséness when dealing with Loki. But of course this is the eye-catcher:
Tumblr media
So, Norse Mythology. It’s been Christiannized. You can thank Snorri Sturluson for that, but you can google all about him later. Let’s just say that he made many Norse figures into equivalents for Christian ones. Baldur is Jesus, pure and a sacrificial lamb who dies for a greater good. And the devil is...Loki. Something the Marvel comics and the MCU have continued.
Here we have a devil, dressed in green and with a distinct shape on his chest:
Tumblr media
Hmmm...wait...I know that weird horny shape...
Tumblr media
Ah. I’d say that cinches it. This is meant to be Loki. If you look at the devil’s hair, it also resembles Loki’s, being shoulder-length and black.
So, what’s devil-Loki doing? Laying an egg? Trying out a foot massager? For a second I thought it was a moon, but we see the moon over his left shoulder, amongst the stars. Which means this is - probably the Earth.
...Dammit; I live there.
So Earth is barren and being devoured by flames, likely caused by this Loki sitting atop of it (in a throne, no less). Aw gee, things look pretty bad, don’t they?
But wait - what’s that? Under the Earth (and, possibly, under the earth)?
Tumblr media
It’s a plant. A shoot, to be exact.
Back to Ragnarok for a second. Ragnarok isn’t the apocalypse (something we see a lot of in this trailer - all of it seems to be exploring the end of days). Ragnarok is the fire meant to wipe out the old and fertilize the ground for the new. And after the gods have died, what happens? Well, Baldur emerges from Hel, one of the only surviving gods (hmm, seems him dying worked out, didn’t it?). He’s joined by Líf and Lífþrasir, who are the new first man and woman, who’s names mean ‘Life’ and who are pictured, usually, with plants and new life. It is they who are tasked who growing a new Yggdrasil after the destruction of the old. The previous first man and woman are Ask and Embla, meaning Ash Tree and Vine/Elm tree, so there’s a theme there.
Tumblr media
So a new sprout, possibly a tree, growing out of the destruction of the old.
This fits with Loki’s role as understood in mythology. He checks the arrogance of the gods, including when they tried to achieve immortality (sorry, Baldur, nothing personal), and that keeps the gods at their best. After Loki is imprisoned, the gods become weak, unhelpful and foolish, and Yggdrasil starts to rot. Eventually Loki escapes and returns along with Surtur (who also resembles this figure) to burn it all to the ground. This is also referenced in Thor:Ragnarok, with Loki releasing Surtur in the Vault, a place of thematic importance to Loki and one that represents the hidden secrets and sins of Asgard). You could say Ragnarok continued into Infinity War, where Loki played an important part in aiding Thanos’ destruction, giving up the stone to protect his brother and essentially dooming the rest of the universe - but also ultimately leading to its salvation, even if, like Myth Loki, he wasn’t around to see it.
So, we see Amylkie literally start a fire in the trailer -
Tumblr media
- in fact, this whole trailer is awash in flame -
Tumblr media
It’s fire, fire everywhere and she’s setting them!
It’s possible Amylkie’s our big bad, but I think there’s a chance she’s either a red herring, or, much like how Loki ‘worked’ with Thanos in The Avengers, she is the pawn of a greater foe -
Tumblr media
  - a Loki bent on destruction, for some reason or other. The TVA is obviously aware that this is the case, and it seems like they might be trying to ‘fight fire with fire’ by enlisting one Loki to combat another. The villain could be President Loki, since there's evidence of 2 Lokis in that scene - or maybe that's one of many Lokis, and the Big Bad Loki is being played by Hugh Grant as Old Loki. In any case, it would appear that Loki will be coming face-to-face with the worst versions of himself, and many of them. And, if I’m right about this scene:
Tumblr media
...Loki will likely eventually discover that even his ‘good’ timeline ended in the destruction of his people and home, plus his own gruesome and torturous death. Although I think the TVA will keep that from him, and just show him the happy parts in an effort to inspire ‘good behaviour’. Until Loki inevitably discovers the rest of how that timeline played out and realize he’s been lied to. I don’t imagine he’ll take that very well...
Tumblr media
Damn, even our ‘hero’ Loki is burning stuff down! Does this mean that Loki is doomed, always meant to be an avatar of death and toasty destruction?
Well...let’s go back to that stained glass.
Tumblr media
Hmmm...wait...I know that weird horny shape...
Tumblr media
And there’s something else...the bottom of the Earth is being lit up, and not by fire. Light appears to be coming off this little plant.
What colour is this plant again? That’s right, green. Green is the colour of new life and growth and change and...hang on, I’ve heard that before, too...
Tumblr media
Hang on hang on HANG ON... let me have a look at the shape again.
Tumblr media
That’s...a letter. An L? For Loki? Like in the title sequence?
Wait...no, a different letter. An older letter. After all, Loki is old Norse. How do you spell his name in that again?
Tumblr media
ᛚᛟᚲ ᛁ -
And ENHANCE on that third letter!
Tumblr media
This, my friends, is a Kenaz/Kaunaz, or what would become 'K' in our alphabet. It is also known as the 'Loki Rune' (and the Ulcer Rune, for some reason. I suspect Odin understands why). It’s used to spell his name, but is also used on his own to represent him. Heck, it's even his Superman 'S' in the comics:
Tumblr media
Runes are more than letters - they are symbols for concepts. So what else does it mean?
Primarly, it means ‘torch’.
And also ‘knowledge’ (ken). As well as ‘growth, change, the search for truth, decay, arrogance, elitism, feminine, kinship and creativity.’
...Okay, that’s a lot, but you have to admit it fits.
More specifically, it means ‘Mastery of the Fire’. As in, someone who has learned to tame fire so that it is helpful, not harmful. To bring light and, symbolically, knowledge.
There’s another way Loki’s been associated with fire - in the Wagner Ring Cycle, Das Rheingold, the opera that inspired much the Thor films’ aesthetic and certainly their helmets, Loki is called ‘Loge’, which means ‘Fire’. He’s usually dressed to match, too -
Tumblr media
Many trickster figures are associated with fire. They are usually called ‘Fire-bringers’ - See: Raven, Lucifer, Prometheus, etc. They are often complex figures with a foot in different worlds, but who nonetheless help mankind with the gift of ‘fire’ - although they usually pay for it, and tend to be self-destructive.
(Side note. Lucifer means light-bringer, which is what luciferase is named after. Because it glows. Which is helpful in labs. In case someone needed to know that.)
Moving from a destructive fire-starter to a fire-bringer seems like a great character arc for Loki to take, especially given his rehabilitation in pop culture, the comics, and even wider culture. Loki has gone from being seen as an evil, deviant, destructive character to one who’s seen as a patron of the arts and creativity, of stories rather than lies. Heck, some scholars of Norse Mythology even posit that he’s the closet thing to a protagonist Norse Mythology has, so I guess that backfired, Snorri!). Being dressed in green and with the sprout clearly also being stylized after his Kaunaz, there’s foreshadowing that he’ll be capable of growing good things even out of ashes.
So, to sum up: Being ‘Satan’ sounds pretty bad, but with a little letter re-arranging like we see in the title sequence, you can be...
Tumblr media
...practically a saint. Maybe even a saviour.
Tumblr media
Merry Christmas, everybody.

TGF Thoughts-- 5x07: And the fight had a detente...
This episode is a wild ride, so if you haven’t seen it yet and you aren’t spoiled, don’t read this. Just go watch it.
Ave Maria plays over a photo montage of cancelled men, including Kevin Spacey, Louie CK, and Scott Rudin. (Scott Rudin, if you don’t know the name, is a Broadway/Hollywood producer who treated his assistants like absolute shit. He’s the inspiration for the possessed producer episode of Evil—I think it’s the third episode of the series—and Robert King does not like him one bit.)
And then the episode opens with Wackner, Del, and Cord discussing the Armie Hammer cannibalism ordeal. Whew, this is not what I wanted to be thinking about first thing on a Thursday morning. I do not think I can put into words how boring I find debating whether or not someone should have been “cancelled.”  Cancellation is usually about rich people facing consequences for shitty actions, and those consequences have never involved anyone’s rights being infringed upon, so why should I care about someone being cancelled? And, while I know that society/people on Twitter don’t always understand nuance, I’d like to think that when it comes to the most notable examples of cancellation... no one is losing their livelihood over false or minor allegations.
There are so, so, so many issues in the world. Cancellation affects a handful of high profile, usually white, straight, male, celebrities. Why should I give a shit about, like, Louie CK not being able to make as much money as he used to? I just do not and cannot find it interesting.
I’m not surprised David Cord and Del Cooper find this topic interesting—Del likely hates worrying that all of his comedians could get cancelled and put him in a financially tricky spot; Cord probably says things like “Woke Mob” unironically. And as for Wackner, he almost certainly has a skewed understanding of what actually happens when someone’s cancelled and sees a place where he can step in and add some order. Blah. It’s just so boring.
"People are getting canceled without a trial, no evidence presented against them,” Wackner says. This is not it, Wackner! This is such a strawman argument. We don’t need the legal system to adjudicate people being assholes to each other, and in cases where a crime is committed or a particular individual can sue for damages, that is what happens. If you act shitty and then your sponsors realize you’re toxic and drop you, like, it is what it is. You can feel free to respond via a Notes App screenshot where half of your apology is actually just whining about cancel culture and then you say “I’m sorry if anyone took offense at what I did” instead of saying “I’m sorry I said/did hurtful things” and when people don’t take that seriously, maybe it’s because you didn’t take it seriously, either.
“There are a lot of reasons these accusations never go to trial. The victims finally get to accuse the victimizer face to face,” Wackner explains. Were the victims asking for this?
Marissa shares my question, noting that if the victims don’t want to speak up, then the victimizer would have the court to himself. This raises a new question: who is even bringing these cases? Are Wackner, Cord, and Del just deciding they want to do things as cases and then getting everyone else on board? This sounds bad!
Apparently, according to Wackner, “if #MeToo relies on mob rule, it’ll exhaust itself.” What... evidence is there for this? I get why people panic about the POSSIBILITY of this happening, even though I don’t share their panic, but is there any actual evidence that #MeToo is losing steam because of false allegations because cancellation isn’t a formal process? I don’t believe there is.
The test case we have the pleasure of seeing this week is about “Louie CK two,” whom I shall refer to as LCK2 instead of learning his name.
Now, suddenly, Marissa is asking one of LCK2’s victims to testify. She doesn’t want to participate because it’s just another way for LCK2 to get his career back. Marissa decides to be idealistic and say this is a real opportunity to confront LCK2 with his crime. I suppose she isn’t wrong, and that is what happens next, but, again, meh.
Apparently David Cord is going to defend LCK2. You know what would get cancelled in five seconds? A David Cord funded show that has David Cord actually on it, railing against cancel culture! Can you IMAGINE the thinkpieces?
God, when is this episode going to move on from this extremely irritating premise?
Marissa decides she wants to be the prosecutor. Wackner says if she prosecutes LCK2, she has to prosecute the academic who used a word that sounds like the n-word and lost her job for it.  Marissa thinks the academic shouldn’t have been fired, but Wackner insists she has to take both cases.
“Let’s go into court,” Wackner says, and, thank goodness, we do go into court: REAL court, where we are talking about REAL issues.
In court, Liz and Diane are suing the police over the death of a black girl who was tased by the police. Her friend is on the stand and it’s quite emotional. Also, Diane tries to pass Liz a note and Liz ignores it. Why would you have two name partners on this case if they aren’t even going to try to work together?
You can tell things are tense between two TGF characters when they talk at the same time in court but are on the same side.
Hiiiiii Abernathy! ILY!
The victim had a heart condition, which the police lawyer argues is the actual cause of death. Police lawyer also argues that since this witness posted some ACAB lyrics on Instagram, she must be biased. Eyeroll.
Liz calls the other lawyer racist; the other lawyer tries to make Liz look like she is only on her client’s side because she’s black and that Liz is being absurd.
Cancel culture court happens. We’re dealing with the academic case first. I don’t feel like talking about the cancel culture shit too much, so here is my take on this case as a whole: (1) I don’t think the actual word in question, which isn’t actually the n-word, is enough on its own to get someone fired (2) I also don’t think anyone can use that word, regardless of its meaning or history, without understanding how it will come across. (3) The teacher did not get fired for simply using this word once (4) This teacher believes that anyone who is from a group that’s been marginalized in history should have to confront that marginalization with as little sympathy and respect as possible because it will help them be more resilient. So basically, if you are from the dominant group then you don’t get challenged. She believes it is her job to do this. She is an egotistical asshole who has no business teaching.
Cord wants everyone to have to say the full word in question. He says this pretentiously (though I don’t think saying “Said word” is that pretentious, tbh) and Wackner rules against him and also makes him wear a powdered wig for using “obtuse language.”
Marissa is not trying at all with this case at first, since she doesn’t believe in it. That’s shitty, Marissa. If you want to be a lawyer at a firm like RL you’re going to have to fight for all of your clients.
Marissa makes a Latin joke and ends up in a powdered wig, too.
The prof says, in one sentence, that she didn’t know what she was doing using the word and also that the black student who took offense thinks college is supposed to be warm, cuddly, and unchallenging. So it was a challenge, then, prof?
I like this student. And I love that she calls Marissa out for obviously not trying.
“The optics matter. Racially,” Diane says to Liz, who agrees. Diane, strategically, makes it about gender first (the cop is male, some jurors may react to a woman questioning a man), then makes it about how she should be the one questioning the cop since Liz is black. It would make the jury more “comfortable” (hey, there’s that word again!) Diane says. She says she is being pragmatic.
Diane says that she could be “more dispassionate”. Be or come across as, Diane? Either way, Liz, who knows full well what the optics look like given that this isn’t her first time in court, doesn’t agree with Diane that they need to come across as dispassionate.
Then Diane just changes the subject to the firm drama. “Liz, you’re shoving me out of my name partner position because of my race.” Like that’s the issue!
“I am doing nothing. You are the one who got our racist clients to whine to STR Laurie about us,” Liz counters. “Those clients bring in a great deal of money, and they are not racists,” Diane insists. Yes. Sure. Diane just happened to choose white male clients who were “comfortable” with her to talk to. I have no doubt they’d have reacted poorly to any change in representation, but Diane was counting on those particular clients having some discomfort with their new lawyers.
Liz calls her out and Diane’s still trying to play it like she just had to inform her long-term clients and it just had to be done this way. But, when Liz asks if Diane thinks the clients would’ve had the same reaction if their new representation were to be white, Diane says that maybe her clients are worried about racial grudges. So, what you’re saying is you knew exactly what you were doing, huh, Diane?
I get why Diane doesn’t like being pushed out, because who would, but Diane, this isn’t about you. And if you didn’t want to make it about race, perhaps you shouldn’t have appeared on a panel about how great it is that your firm is majority black? You can’t have it both ways.
Liz notes that Diane felt “entitled” to her name partnership. This is accurate, though based on revenue and stature I don’t think it can be denied that Diane deserves name partner status (generally speaking). Diane went over to RBK, was like, “sure, I’ll be a junior partner, thank you so much for the opportunity, I can’t even pay my capital contribution right now but what if I were name partner in three months?” and that is both entitlement and knowing one’s own worth, but mostly entitlement.
(Liz does not act entitled, but if we want to get into who deserves their partnership more—again generally speaking, not their partnership at a black firm specifically—it is definitely Diane! Liz literally only has this job because her dad was important.)
“I think that Barbara Kolstad was shoved out because you felt entitled to her position,” Liz shouts. OMG, a mention of Barbara?!?!?!??!?!? THANK YOU, WRITERS!!!
(This is a slight bit of revisionist history but I’ll allow it, and I think it’s right in thought even if it’s not right on the details. Barbara wasn’t shoved out—Barbara chose to go to a different firm that offered her a better deal—but I don’t think Barbara would’ve been on that trajectory had it not been for Diane’s presence at the firm. Barbara was in charge of a firm that shared her values when, suddenly, her partner decided that they needed to pursue profit over all else and needed Diane to execute that strategy. Maybe no one made a move directly against her, but Adrian and Diane changed the mission of RBK until it was no longer somewhere Barbara wanted to work.
“We can’t work together if you don’t respect me,” Diane screams at Liz. “No, we can’t work together if you use race cynically,” Liz responds. Diane gets even angrier, swears a bunch, and then says “You want to come after me, you come after me with an honest argument about my lack of competence, my lack of worth.” Diane, you are fighting a completely different battle here! You can be entitled and also correct and also good at your job. This is what you used to accuse Alicia of all the time. The fact you’ve turned this into something about your skill level when it’s about the meaning of having a black firm is only proving Liz’s point.
“Your unworthiness—which you don’t seem to want to acknowledge—is that you can’t be the top dog in a black firm,” Liz says. Exactly. But Diane just storms off.
Now the cop is on the stand. He did not know the victim had a heart condition. Uh, obviously, why would he have known that?
Liz is aggressive in court; Diane thinks this is the wrong strategy. Without knowing who is on the jury, I have no idea which one of them is correct.
The next move is to get the cop’s ex-wife, who he abused, on the stand.
Goodie, it’s cancel culture court. Things go well for Marissa, but Del wants to know why Marissa wasn’t that passionate about the n-word case. Marissa says she feels like it’s not the n-word, like that is a valid reason to not represent your client to the best of your ability. “It is. It always is,” says Del.
Marissa heads back to RL, and as she walks, the camera follows her and moves through the space until we end up in Liz’s office, where she gets a news alert about the cop from the COTW. He’s been killed, seemingly in retaliation for his actions. The news is quick to suggest the trial might’ve encouraged the killing. “Oh, fuck.” Diane says as she watches the news. Aaaand credits (at 20 minutes in!)
From the promos, I thought this was going to be a Very Serious Episode about police brutality. From the opening, I thought it was going to be an insufferable episode about cancel culture. I was wrong! (Though, I suppose, some of the cancel culture stuff is still insufferable.)
Yay for Carrie Preston, who directed this episode. I read an interview with her and she talked about how there’s a “look book” for directing TGF episodes and I have never wanted to see anything as badly as I want to see this look book. (Am I exaggerating? Probably. But I might not be.)
After credits, Marissa finds Carmen and Jay to ask them if “n-word-ly" is offensive. She acknowledges she’s being annoying but they let her continue anyway. Jay finds it offensive. Carmen does not. This seems fitting with their characters, and I love that this scene acknowledges that not every black person is going to have the exact same reaction to everything.
I want Carmen to have more to do! While I’m glad the show isn’t forcing her to have a large role in every plot just because, I feel like she’s gone missing for the middle part of the season. My guess is that their priority with Carmen is setting her up to be an ongoing part of the cast who grows into being someone we want a lot from rather than forcing her plots from the start... but surely we could get a little more of her! I doubt she’s a one-season character like I assume Wackner will be.
The cop’s murder changes the vibe in court. Abernathy calls a moment of silence in his memory. “We’re fucked,” Liz whispers to Diane.
And indeed they are. The cop’s ex no longer wants to talk about how abusive he was—she wants to talk about how great he was. Whose idea was it to still put her on the stand?! Idk about legal procedures but this seems like a really avoidable mistake!
Diane argues that the cop’s death has prejudiced the jury. Abernathy decides to call a “voir dire de novo,” using an obtuse Latin phrase that would not be permitted in Wackner’s court. (Love the little parallels in this episode, like this, the transition between courts earlier, and how much of Marissa being called out on her whiteness feels like a thematic extension of everything going on with Diane.)
Cancel culture court continues. Carmen shows up.
I don’t really get how June, the victim of LCK2, potentially losing a headlining gig for a bad set instead of retaliation from LCK2, scores him a point. One, if she was a rising store, one bad set shouldn’t have damned her career. Two, isn’t it enough to prove that he masturbated in front of women who didn’t want him to do that???????
Having June perform her act with no prep in Wackner’s court so they can judge whether or not she is funny is a wildly bad idea. So now Wackner is an arbiter of humor as well as cancel culture?
This whole system is silly and I reject the whole premise but June should not lose two points for the logic that Wackner + the audience don’t find June funny --> June must’ve had her career derailed because she just isn’t funny (how’d she book the headliner gig, then?) --> LCK2 scores points??? He still masturbated in front of her without her consent!
Using cancel culture to show Wackner’s court is going too far/slipping into bad territory: I’m on board with this. Using Wackner’s court to actually comment on cancel culture: Ugh. The writers seem to be trying to do both.
Lol at Abernathy having Stacey Abrams’ book on his desk.
Marissa argues the n-word case more passionately, because these writers love to make situations that seemed clear cut seem more uncertain. It’s no coincidence they have the sexual harassment case look murkier (though, again, June being bad at comedy does not negate the sexual harassment!) right before they have the n-work case begin to tilt in favor of the professor’s cancellation.
Hahah what bullshit about trying to prepare the students for a world that won’t be kind to them. Do you seriously think your black students need YOU to prepare them?
This lady thinks history classes have to describe rapes in detail to get students to sympathize. No, no they fucking do not.
She also says she’d use the n-word if she were teaching a topic where it might come up. Um, no?
Mr. Elk (this is what I call Ted Willoughby, Idiot Reporter, after he said “things of that elk” in his first appearance) is attacking Diane and Liz on his show. Diane and Liz are, apparently, “Marxist slip-and-fall lawyers” and Mr. Elk plays a clip of Diane saying cops need to be held accountable. Obviously, this was before the cop’s death and meant to be about the legal system, but it looks like Diane’s calling for his murder. I also love how they go out of their way to only pause the clip on unflattering frames of Diane.
Liz wants to use this in court—I forgot that Liz is super sneaky but this tracks; she is always quick to use things to her advantage and we’ve known that about her since her strategy with the DNC in 2x07 (to make outlandish allegations and then drop them before presenting proof). Julius wants to get Liz and Diane security.
That security is, apparently Jay. I think they’ve shown Jay as security before when Lucca went viral. I didn’t understand it then and I don’t understand it now.
I was, briefly, worried for Liz and Diane’s safety, especially after I saw all the angry cops waiting for them in court. Then I thought, oh, well at least they’re in court, they should be safe from being shot there. Then I remembered 5x15. Then I laughed at myself.
Liz’s new strategy works and Abernathy uses more Latin. But, they can’t get any more jurors thrown. (They’re going for a mistrial.)
Oh, Carmen is back again! She did SO MUCH in that court scene where she appeared and then disappeared! She’s chatting with Marissa and spots LCK2 in the RL offices.
Apparently, LCK2 negotiated a contract with Del, with David Lee’s help. (Why would David Lee be doing entertainment law?) Suddenly everything makes sense to Marissa.
She calls Del to the stand. This—and, honestly, everything after this—makes me wonder how much of this would ever make it to air. Why would Del televise this?
What a shock—Del wants LCK2 back on his streaming service (which I don’t think has a name LOL).
Somehow Marissa’s questions become about Wackner and whether or not Wackner is an impartial judge, which doesn’t seem like the core issue. Wackner has made it pretty clear that his stance is that he doesn’t care if others are corrupt around him or try to use him; he’s going to be impartial no matter what. Why not play that up instead of making the entire show look staged and Wackner look complicit, Marissa?
Like, why is Marissa asking Wackner if he’s prejudged the case?! Why isn’t she just trying to like, get him to declare a mistrial because there is a conflict of interest? She can make a version of this argument without accusing Wackner of PREJUDGING, which she knows—I know, so she knows—will set him off. Wackner truly believe he thinks he is impartial. It’s not smart strategy to question that (even if we all know that Wackner is not impartial!)
Wackner blows up at Marissa and shouts at her. He tells her to get the fuck out of court.
This is certainly dramatic, but again, would Del ever choose to air this? I doubt it.
On her way to work, Diane notices hot pink spray paint in the elevator. When she exits the elevator, the whole firm is gathered in the lobby. Someone has painted COP KILLERS across the elevator bank. “Security doesn’t know how they got in,” Jay says. “Of course they don’t,” Diane responds. “They suggest we call the cops,” Jay says. I love this little exchange. I wasn’t exactly wondering how someone got in, but I like the show making it clear how unprotected Diane and Liz are right now and why.
Julius appears and says that Mr. Elk is saying something new. Diane and Liz sit down to watch and the tone of this episode completely shifts.
I had forgotten completely that Liz’s dad’s assault issues are out in public until Mr. Elk called him “a disgraced civil rights leader.” It doesn’t feel like they’re out in public! Also I would believe Mr. Elk calling him disgraced for no reason at all.
Y’all, when Mr. Elk said the name “Duke Roscoe,” my jaw dropped. WHAT A CALLBACK.
This scene, and really, everything in this plot from here on out, is a delight. It just keeps going and going. It is the best kind of fanservice.
1x11 has been, for no real reason, on my mind since 5x04. It popped out to me as an example of this show’s humor so I talked about it in that recap. I nearly mentioned it in my 5x06 recap when Diane laughed at Julius’s suggestion that they start a firm together. I rewatched 1x11, by complete chance, like two weeks ago. How weird that I'm somehow on the show’s wavelength about this!
Also I made a joke about Mr. Elk last week without knowing he’d be back this episode. I would like to think I conjured this.
(1x11 is a really pivotal episode for TGW, even if it isn’t one of the most notable episodes overall. It's composer David Buckley’s first episode and that ending, with Diane laughing, is one of the earliest moments of TGW showing its sense of humor and playing to its strengths.)
Mr. Elk notes that they “rarely see” Kurt, which is apparently evidence that Diane is a lesbian. Hahahahahahah. Mr. Elk also wouldn’t want to note Kurt, despite his recent controversy, because to his viewers, Kurt’s beliefs would make Diane seem more sympathetic.
GUYS, THE WRITERS DECIDED TO MAKE A CALLBACK TO AN ICONIC MOMENT FROM AN EPISODE THAT AIRED OVER A DECADE AGO AND THEN BUILD ON IT. I cannot express how fucking happy this makes me.
Now, Mr. Elk says, Diane and Liz are an item!
What’s better than Diane laughing hysterically at the original allegations? Diane doing it again, eleven years later, JOINED BY LIZ.
This also works super well to cut the tension between Diane and Liz. I assume this isn’t the end of the name partnership drama, but I think it might be the end of Diane and Liz being pissed at each other. Since the name partnership drama was never really about Diane and Liz (Liz seems to want Diane to stay on...), I’m fine with that.
Because this is an episode full of callbacks that delight me, Del asks Liz when he gets to meet her son! HER SON STILL EXISTS!
It sounds like Liz and Del still aren’t fully official, which clarifies why they don’t seem to be a couple in public.
Del brings up the Diane rumor (jokingly) and Liz jokes along. I love that we get to see this playful side of Liz.
Wackner’s watching his outburst with regret. Del calms him down and notes that this is good TV (why... would Del air this... it makes DEL look worse than anyone!). Wackner calls Marissa to apologize; she picks up and accepts his apology.
Abernathy calls Liz and Diane into chambers. He’s worried he was “insensitive”-- he's noticed the tension between Liz and Diane, but now he thinks it was a lover’s spat.
Diane puts on a poker face and leans in towards Liz. She starts nodding attentively and thanks Abernathy. Liz smiles and doubles down: she’s not just going to play along, she’s going to milk it. She gets a juror kicked for homophobia, which means a mistrial. Shameless. I love it.
Diane and Liz playing off each other as Abernathy tries to look like as much of an ally as possible is comedy gold.
Diane even calls Liz darling. Omg.
LCK2 is on the stand, being charismatic and annoying. Of course he is. This is what happens when you give someone who is known for being able to connect with a crowd... a crowd and the benefit of the doubt.
LCK2 is talking about “stupid women” in his new set. Why... is Del giving that a platform at all? See, the fact that Del thinks it is not only interesting but also somehow essential to let LCK2 make jokes about sexual harassment is why I can’t take this episode seriously. Why should I be more outraged about someone who did something shitty not getting a trial for his shitty but legal behavior than I am about powerful people continuing to offer shitty people platforms? Only one of these seems outrageous to me.
Wackner decides that the professor did something “awful but lawful” and that’s it. So you’re saying that if it isn’t illegal, it doesn’t get decided in your court, either? What was the point of this, then?
The professor says she doesn’t want that—she wants the school to know she’s being punished so she can get her job back. The student storms out, rightfully. Wackner’s job isn’t to offer someone who wants punishment some form of penance, like she can exchange community service hours for offensive remarks. It’s to... well, idk what it is to do, since this whole thing doesn’t really make sense and he makes the rules, but I don’t think his verdict has to be about giving anyone what they want. I’m disappointed that Wackner comes up with a punishment and I don’t think it’s going to get her her job back.
LCK2 loses, too, because he hasn’t made amends. Wackner doesn’t want to fine him because he’s too rich for a fine to matter. Cord argues that LCK2 deserves a second chance. I mean, sure, but is he being denied a second chance? He doesn’t deserve an easy path back to his fame just because he wants it.
Wackner mentions prison. At first I was like, oh, that’s a nice throwaway line that he mentioned prison! This ties into what I was saying a few weeks ago about how Wackner likes the institutions that already exist—he just thinks they’re imperfect! It’s fitting that he’s not a prison abolitionist!
And then the episode actually went there: Wackner, thanks to David Cord’s private prison company, actually sentences LCK2 to prison. This is deeply uncomfortable (and of questionable legality). Wackner’s system is just going to recreate prison? Worse, private prison? He’s creating an unchecked, privatized legal system?! This sounds bad! Kudos to the show for taking this to some place so dark—I knew Wackner’s system would start to show cracks, but I didn’t realize they’d go this far.
And I’m not sure what the end game is with this! All I know is I’m not on board with Wackner sending people to prison (except as a plot—I am very on board with this plot) and neither is Marissa.
I do not think viewers of the reality show will like the prison twist or the fact that Cord is financing a court and prison! Can you imagine the scandal!
And what do the contracts look like that allow Wackner to sentence someone to prison? Can LCK2 leave any time he wants? If so, then how does the prison sentence help? If not, is that legal?
Del wants it to be a 2 week sentence, not 3, because this means LCK2 will have to miss his taping in two weeks. I have many questions. (1) Is Wackner’s show airing live? If not, then why do they need to rush the taping of the special? They could push it quite easily. (2) Why can’t they push the taping? This guy is a huge deal and enough potential $$ that Del wants to rehabilitate his career... so why does the taping have to be on this particular day and time?
Is there really an Exxon Mobile case, I wonder?
I like that we spend a good amount of time watching Marissa’s reactions to this latest addition to Wackner’s court. Combined with the score, Marissa’s facial expression serves to underline that private prisons are not good here! This isn’t Wackner getting legitimate methods of enforcement... this is just opening a pandora’s box of highly questionable extrajudicial practices.
I do love that this episode ends up here: it starts out like it’s going to be about cancel culture silliness and ends up being about the escalation of Wackner’s tactics.
Funny how both of the cancelled people end up being found guilty by Wackner, huh! Almost like they actually did something wrong and faced the consequences!
Liz and Diane get called in to talk to Liz’s favorite department: HR. They’re asked to sign “love contracts” to confirm things are consensual. I find it hilarious that HR gives them the paper before even asking if it’s true.
Liz grabs a pen and signs. Diane follows her lead. They look at each other and smile politely at HR.
I am... not sure how to read this last scene! Is it a fuck-you to HR? A way of easing tensions? A way for Liz to get people to stop talking to her about removing Diane as name partner because no one will want to ask if they’re really involved? Something else? Help me understand!
Curious to see where things go next. I can see LCK2 coming back for another episode but it also wouldn’t surprise me to never see him again. Similarly, I could see some glances/discussion of Diane and Liz’s romantic relationship next week, or I could see it never being mentioned again, or I could see it being mentioned next season out of the blue.

I feel like after sons the writers were so happy they didn’t have to keep writing diversity in lmaoo, like sons covered bunch of different gangs so there was lots of racial diversity but Mayans is mostly brown people(which is how it should be if not all) and all the white people they could find. Like I’m sorry but the whole cast of side characters looks like a snow bank. Sons did a good job of showing you how diverse the people in proximity with them were. In Mayans the only people within reaching distance are white. Like there’s no one else around to interact with(other than that cop and Juan Denver I guess).
So, I have thoughts about this because I've seen it said a couple of times and I feel like people aren't really seeing the bigger picture, so buckle up because it's long.
The main one being that Elgin James had nothing to do with SOA. Mayans is in the same universe as SOA, but it's not the same story. It's a different culture telling a different story, with a different focus, due to different experiences in this country. A difference is also that Kurt was the one responsible for the creative process regarding SOA. So all of the racism, sexism, rape culture, transphobia, homophobia was from Sutter's vision, not Elgins.
Now. The 'diversity in SOA was never really there for diversity. It was there for plot. The Grim Bastards were there to make it seem like the club wasn't as racist as it actually was because "Hey look, we have black friends" talking about their long-established history while simultaneously talking down on them. The 9'ers, same shit. Prentinging to be cordial, only to try and pin them for something they didn't do because they played into the angry black man stereotype, Clay's exact words. Weston was a white supremacist. We know that. Anyone who watched for 10 minutes knew that. That was well established for his storyline. It really wasn't necessary for Sutter to make Weston's chest tattoo a part of the costume design, but he did.
Then they had "relationships" with the Mayans back and forth all the while calling them Spics. So is that added diversity, or is one more avenue for Sutter to include white men looking down on those around them who aren't white?
Then there was the Triad, same thing, Chibs' character references them by calling them "r*ce m*nkeys" so again, was it diversity because they wanted to show diversity and create that atmosphere? Or diversity because...you get the idea.
So that's one thing from a writing standpoint. Sutter was going for a shock value based show that was going to give white Americans a hard on and it did. What better way to bring shock value than to be racist at every turn presented and play on bigotry? Elgin is trying to tell the stories of what Latino MC culture is like along with what the Latino experience is like in this country period. He's not trying to shock the viewers or be named the most controversial show; he's storytelling.
Then there's the fact that communities usually tend to have people within them that look alike, and the smaller the town, the truer that is. People will naturally congregate together with those they have the most in common with. The bigger a city, the more diverse. The smaller a city, usually the more uniform their demographics are. So then speaking on demographics, let's get into demos for the areas that the shows are based around. For the record "Charming" doesn't exist, it's a fictitious place for SOA, however, its general real-life area where it was shot at is San Joaquin County, California. So let's look at the demographics for that location.
Tumblr media
It's got a fair bit of diversity in the sense that it's spread out. Disproportionate sure, but the demos are relatively spread out. So the diversity that we see in SOA having been filmed in San Joa county is relatively accurate. The Mayans in that 42.0%, 9'ers and Grim Bastards in the 8.3%, The Triad in the 17.4%, etc.
Now let's look at Calexico, which is the bordering town between the Mexican and Californian wall where Mayans is based.
Tumblr media
Not much diversity. Why? Many of the people who live in the Calexico area are Mexican and other Latinx people who have immigrated from Mexico and are just trying to get by and live better lives. Many stay in that area so that it's easy for them to go back and see their families, sometimes at the wall itself if either side is unable to cross. Calexico isn't really a place where people just...go. People that are there are usually there because again, either their family has been there and they never moved, or they're staying there to be closer to their loved ones across the border. There are always exceptions, but that's the basis. So you've got the Latinos that live there...and then you have border patrol and the police force that get their rocks off by going after Brown people for a living. Those are the main two groups present. So Mayans, like SOA, has stuck to being realistic in regards to showcasing the demographics and population in which their shows were filmed. Charming was realistic to San Joa Valley and Mayans to Calexico.
So all of that being said, I don't really understand why Mayans keeps being put under a microscope. I mean xenophobia is why, but I don't get why it can't just be enjoyed and had to be directed when SOA checked every morally void box there was and just got a pass. Mayans MC is scrutinized more than SOA ever was and it just gets a little frustrating after a while. I think it's amazing that Elgin and the cast were given the ability to tell these stories that so many of us in the Latinx community understand and resonate with, and they do it beautifully, but it always seems like there's a reason people want to drag it. I'm not saying that's what you're doing, but that's what keeps happening and it's bothersome. Mayans is supposed to be a spin-off of SOA showcasing life for a Mexican American MC and that's exactly what it's doing. It's doing what it set out to do, and some people are still tearing it apart for things that are realistic.
The diversity on SOA was performative so it could get people talking about it, just like Venus' inclusion was performative. Mayans isn't trying to do that. It's taking Latinx men and women and showing their lives within the Latinx community and the struggles that we face within that community. It's giving Latinx viewers something of our own, but it gets dragged like never before. We're just trying to enjoy this piece of representation that we were given and it's being clouded and tainted by the constant criticism that I never saw SOA get and frankly still doesn't get outside of this community it seems. I don't really know what else to say.

RE:ID Rant! /SPOILERS/
I just finished watching Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness and made some scene pack which you can find here.
I’m not the biggest fan of putting my opinion out there on the internet but I'll try to write my opinion while still be careful.
NO HATE TO ANY CHARACTER LISTED BELLOW THANK YOU!
Anyhow, I need to talk about it!
First of all, amazing character design and rendering. All the characters looks amazing and I adore the little details, for example, Leon's little head twitch or look at the president’s facial details. I think we all agree that they aced in that department. (will talk more about that subject after character analysis)
Now, the plot... the plot.
Look in all honesty it was a nice plot but i felt it went a bit too fast, not enough build up and stuff. I don't have much to say on it, only a few default on the characters and why and how things happen but I'll talk about that through character analysis.
Okay, about our main character Leon.
He was badass, I'm so surprised he knew what to do in the submarine, honestly that was a good scene I was really anxious for him. He did care for the people around him but I didn’t get that sweet side of him like he had in RE2 or in DAM, I'm saying this because even if he saw Shen May’s brother, he didn’t have the empathy of his last wishes, like Shen May basically said: “He doesn’t want this to happen again and that why this *the chip* can help us.” And what annoys me the most and that both the ‘villain's’ didn’t deserve to die so the least he could do is to not make it *the virus* happen again.
I am revolted at Leon for not giving the chip to Claire, not even telling the president about this shit! LIKE BRO. Also denying Claire, thinking he knows best?! Excuse me but Claire literally interviews people, she knows the Press! Anyhow, Annoyed...
Now let’s talk about Claire.
My girl Claire! They made her a side character that didn’t have much to add only confirmation to our suspicions which is good yes, but it isn’t Claire’s job, she deserve a much bigger role in the RE universe! I get it, she was also a ‘side’ character in RE2 and Leon is the star but still tho! She did give #girlboss energy which I am LIVING for! She was stunning! her character design and CGI was beautiful and I've seen a lot of people saying that she is ‘ugly as shit’ as i quote. I’m sorry but she looks realistic and you are going to cry about it? She is around her mid-tweenies, maybe around 27 and you gonna tell me that her being realistic is ‘ugly as shit’?! Yeah nah sorry pal, go and like Shen May (no hate to her, she is gorgeous) then and not our OG Girl Claire!
Claire deserved a bigger role and she is smart, like she is fucking smart! She almost decoded everything before the agents came and kidnap her, one of many reasons she should’ve had a bigger role! (Also please, your hand in marriage Claire ilysm)
Next on the list is Jason.
Okay, I'm sorry but i am in love with him.
I’m sorry okay! He fits the dilf characteristics and I cant-
Anyhow back to analysis.
I feel horrible, he didn’t deserve to die, the man had serious mental illness and PTSD involved, they showed that but they killed him off. Why? Because he wanted to stop the virus from ever happening by his own ways? Even if it is a violent way, there is still, there was a logical and reasonable. Honestly i think and/or probably, a lot of people might relate to him and Shen Mei, because he has PTSD and mental health issues and Shen Mei lost someone close to her and they are both trying to make the world better, in their own way and for Capcom to kill them both is such a shame..
Jason is such a badass tho like.. damn~  He was really well written as a side character, like, I enjoyed when he was on screen (Maybe because i like him but whatever)
Last but not least, Shen Mei!
I’m gonna be real and probs a lot of people are not going to like this but she was the least prominent character for me, like, yes she stands out a bit but for at least 2 episode she is.. just there and having little dialogue. But i did enjoy her twist, i felt like all that nothing from her was worth in someway. She is definitely #girlboss *chef kiss* and i can relate to her on a deeper level. I enjoyed that she silent for 2 episode because i can relate that she doesn’t talk, that she only listen and observes. I enjoy how she will do anything to help the people she love and that think that's what make Shen Mei a great character! Overall i did enjoy her character and i think her side role is very well placed with her personality.
CGI and Rendering Rant
I need to talk about the amount of details in the male characters but lack of it for female characters... You can see how, The President, Jason or Leon have detail, you can see their pores on their skin, you can see their history and age through those CGI detail on their skin and others but.. Claire or Shen May, their skin is  perfect. They do have a few details under her eyes but no pores, no small wrinkles, nothing. I think that's a shame. Shen Mei looks absolutely perfect, you cannot tell me that there is any default on her. I think that is marketing.. what I mean is that Shen Mei is an attraction for people to watch REID. She is absolutely stunning and has no default.
I was talking with a friend of mine that studies human biology and we were talking about those details, we went on the subject of the women representation and rendering and we both suspect makeup is involve. What i am saying is that Capcom doesn’t show those pores because : Makeup.
It can be a valid point. Exhibit A is Shen Mei eyelashes and slight makeup, she is meeting the President after all. So of course she would whip out some makeup. (I know i would.) Shen Mei eye Lashes are way longer longer than Claire’s which would go back to out theory of make up.

Shen Mei in the submarine. You might think that it’s not convincing enough but keep in mind that Shen Mei is looking up as her head is downwards!
Coming back to skin. In the last two picture, yes, you can see pours and details of the face of Shen Mei but i want to talk about normal viewing of the two character VS male character same view point.

VS

Leon at the (almost) same camera leveling and depth and you see way more characteristic then other female character even when Leon and Claire are around the same age. But they did nail it when the camera was close on both women.
Adding a note that Claire does show a it of characteristics, more than Shen Mei and the we get people calling her ‘Ugly as shit’ for having a realistic face.
Maybe Shen Mei is younger, Probably and surely but I'm 18, i have facial characteristics. the only thing that is realistic is her beauty spot which is a really nice touch I love it.
Anyhow i think I'm done talking about it.
I enjoyed watching the show and i was excited for it! i hope everyone enjoyed it! Also I love all the character, I'm not bullying them or critic them for their physic or anything else! I’m just ranting about things that was ‘negative’ only because i enjoyed so many aspect of it that the post would be longer aahh.
A few positives I will list are:
Camera angles (immerced)
Character movement (No awkward movement or glitch)
Motion blur (None sickening blur, right place Motion blur)
Lighting (Accurate lighting, not forgetting lighting through hair, ear etc)
Animation (Overall fucking amazing like holy shit)
Tension (Performed very well through animation and plot)
Emotion and facial expression ( I could write a whole essay on that, that’s how well they did it)
I think that's it :)
I hope you enjoyed me rambling on about this, i will write soon I've just had a holiday! scheduled writing around the end of next week!

BBC's Merlin Season 1 Episode 3: The Mark of Nimue Analysis
*SPOILERS FOR THE WHOLE SHOW*
First off I always look fondly on this episode, mainly for Morgana being hilarious and epic, I mean she has the best line in the whole episode:
Arthur: You could get hurt
Morgana: So could you.... if you don't get out of my way
This episode is also fun and interesting from the perspectives of plot, characters and themes. Sorry, this is extremely long, I have a lot of opinions about Merlin.
Gwen and Merlin
This episode is in many ways about Gwen and Merlin's friendship, it is the driving force behind all of Merlin's actions within this episode and is the stepping stone for this show considering how to find a balance between acting for the greater good without suggesting that the ends justify the means.
Merlin and Gwen are first off just very sweet, their friendship is really characteristic of this show's representation of friendship overall, just genuine love and consideration for others. It is also self-sacrificing, that's one thing about the relationships in this show they are so self-sacrificing.
When Merlin says to Gwen "I didn't like to see you upset." It reveals a wonderful fact of Merlin's characterisation that I would argue stays consistent for the whole show. His motivation is always grounded in how much he cares for the people around him. He cares deeply about his friends and they are largely his reason for doing the things he does. This line is a wonderful parallel to in season 3 when Merlin decides to let Morgana die (after he accidentally trips her down the stairs), but then in the end he heals her because he couldn't watch everyone's grief. Merlin cannot separate his actions from the people he's doing them for, and he can't stand to see people hurt when he has the power to fix it because the people he loves are his motivation, they are the reason he wants a better world. This show does establish (as I'll discuss further down) that what seems immediately right (healing Gwen's father etc) isn't necessarily the right decision to make for the greater good. This is some ways always questions the validity of Merlin's motivations and his actions, but I'd argue it more seeks to find a balance. Besides a Merlin who didn't act motivated by his love for others is not a Merlin that could have helped Arthur build Camelot.
Medievalism: duty and social obligation
Quick disclaimer cause I'm touching on a more scholarly issue here that I have limited knowledge of, so I will undoubtedly make mistakes and this is my opinion. Everything I write is my opinion, but that's more obvious when I'm commenting on the themes of a fictional world rather than making a comment on actual fields of study which is what I'm doing here.
BBC's Merlin is an example of medievalism, it is an engagement with the medieval era (or ideas/images associated with it) for modern times. I honestly don't know that much about medievalism, or the medieval era, certainly not enough to make an extensive commentary on its representation in Merlin. One thing I would argue is that Merlin's representation of friendship has its roots in idealised views of the virtues of the medieval era. For many people the Middle Ages represents a time of duty and social obligation, this on one hand does lead to a stringent class divide but it also finds its idealisation in the sort of friendship represented by Merlin. The premise in most societies that place great value on social obligation is that the needs of the community outweigh the needs of the individual, that people should sacrifice themselves for the community as a whole. Every society places emphasis on this in different ways and to greater or lesser extents and our view of it as being prevalent in the medieval era is largely an idealisation based in some historical reality but also our own desires about what this era represents. There is a kind of social responsibility in the relationships in Merlin, there is a great emphasis on loyalty which is part of this idealisation. However, Merlin makes it more personal than is often depicted. We idealise social responsibility and obligation, it is often tied into the social roles of people such as loyalty to a king, or paying back debts of honour which is a form of social obligation. Merlin is more about friendship, it takes our idealisation of medieval social obligation and makes it the obligation and loyalty we owe to people who love us and who we love. I will always say that fundamentally Merlin as a show is about love, and it emphasises what we owe to people in our lives in a way I believe echoes idealisation of medieval loyalty.
This idea can also be seen in Arthur's fundamental trust of others, his fundamental assumption that everyone around him is not seeking to harm him, and that people are generally good. This ties a bit into the idea of social obligation. Arthur's idealised world is one in which people have bonds of social obligation towards each other, that people are seeking to act in the interests of the community. It's an idealisation, both of the medieval era but also an idealisation in Arthur's own head of the world he lives in.
Morgana and Gwen
Their relationship is somewhat expanded on in this episode, and they are just so sweet. Gwen gives Morgana flowers to cheer her up and its just lovely. They have a very genuine and close relationship. Morgana also has great respect for Gwen, for the work she does, and she treats her with respect.
Morgana: "If she was a sorceress, why would she kneel on the cold stone floor every morning if she could make these things happen with a snap of her fingers, like an idle king."
Aside from being one of Morgana's many quality burns towards Uther, this also illustrates one of her greatest characteristics, her empathy and genuine respect and admiration for what Gwen does everyday. She doesn't see the class divide in the same way Uther sees it or Arthur pretends to see it.
Also interesting note I heard in a Merlin podcast (I can't remember which episode), it could have been the episode about this episode. It's called Destiny and Chicken (you can listen to it on Spotify and anywhere else you find podcasts- they even did an interview of Bradley James who plays Arthur at one point), and its very good. But, they said something interesting about the paralleling between the relationship between Merlin and Arthur and the relationship between Morgana and Gwen. Both are fundamentally important and genuinely caring relationships for the character. However, for Morgana and Gwen (unlike Merlin and Arthur) the class divide remains much more in place, Gwen treats Morgana like her friend but she also treats her like her mistress in a way Merlin just doesn't with Arthur (especially not so early in the show when he's not so admiring of Arthur). This isn't to say their relationship is bad or has problems, its just different whilst still acting as a parallel. I'm not sure exactly the extent to which I agree or what this says overall in themes but its definitely interesting to think about.
Uther: "A Good and Terrible King."
This episode shows Uther at both his best and his worst which is always fun because Uther is a genuinely interesting character. I got the line from my favourite Merlin fanfiction Coronation by rageprufrock, which you should definitely read, I'll link it down the bottom, it's not too long so you can read it in half an hour. It's a character study of Arthur more than anything else and its amazing, wonderful and deeply poetic. Uther is not a huge part of this fanfic, its about Arthur's character and his relationship with Merlin and his kingdom, I'm not even sure he actually appears. This line though perfectly tapped into how I always felt about Uther so it connected:
"He's been a good and terrible father, a good and terrible king."
I often think in characterising Uther we do tend to villainise him to an extent which I personally don't find accurate. This is obviously just my opinion, and I have a tendency to think the best of people so more intensely negative views of Uther are very jarring for me. He did terrible things and I truly believe he is the ultimate villain of the show but he is very human and he could be a good king and he loved his children more than anything else. We cheapen Merlin's point if we cast Uther as pure evil, everyone is capable of evil just as much as goodness. Uther is the tragedy (like Morgana) of a person who could have been good or at least halfway decent corrupted and destroyed by his own hate and ignorance. That's the point of the parallels between Uther and Morgana, we love Morgana and she was capable of so much good, but she corrupted herself with hate.
Onto this episode, Uther shows both his capability and goodness as a king in this episode as well as his hatred and ignorance. Uther's initial reaction to the fact that the plague is caused by magic is a concern about his own authority, which isn't entirely unfounded, but does reveal a huge priority of his which is control. He fears not being able to control, that's were his cruelty as a father comes from and to some extent his opposition to magic. This does not show Uther in the best light, but his actions later in regards to dealing with the plague show a decent king who cares about his people. This scene in which he tells Arthur to shut off the lower town perfectly illustrates this:
Arthur: But what about the people who live there
Uther: Don't you think I haven't considered it? What else can I do? I have to protect the rest of the city
In this situation Uther is right, there is very little other choice, he's making a hard call but it's one he has to make, and he seems genuinely distressed at having to make it. He does care about his people's well being, and he feels the burden of their protection, he can be a good King. Much of Arthur's story is in breaking away from the legacy of Uther, and rightly so, but Uther also taught him many things and one of those things is the duty Arthur has towards his people, it's a duty he takes even more seriously than Uther, but nonetheless he learnt it from him.
This however, as I've hinted, is not the whole story of this episode, Uther is also shown at his worst, and his worst is his ignorance and prejudice towards magic. He is willing to sacrifice justice and even sacrifices logical thought to his blind persistence that magic is evil.
Arthur: She's right Father. You hear the word magic you no longer listen.
Uther: You saw it for yourself, she used enchantments.
Arthur: Yes, maybe. To save her dying father, that doesn't make her guilty of creating a plague. One's the act of kindness, of love, the other of evil. I don't believe evil's in this girl's heart
Aside from what this says about Arthur. Arthur's comment about Uther hits right to the point of things "you hear the word magic you no longer listen". You no longer listen implies its a choice, and it is. Uther has made the choice for the last 20 years to choose to go on a dogmatic campaign of hate against magic because its easier than considering the alternative, that he was complicit in his wife's death. What Uther says immediately after "there are dark forces threatening this kingdom." is the argument used by so many people throughout history, used to justify so much hate. That there is an evil out there threatening the stability of life, that the world must be controlled and people have to live a certain way or risk destroying their own lives. It's an argument that justifies campaigns of hate and makes them personal to ordinary people who usually wouldn't care, and it is always a lie, that's not how the world works.
This episode thus shows Uther at his best and his worst, both a dutiful king and a stubborn tyrant. It's a tragedy of what he could of been, and shows how twisted up people can become when they justify their decisions with hate and fear.
Arthur
This is the first episode where Arthur really opposes Uther, he directly questions Uther's indiscriminate hatred of magic, and an episode where he realises to an extent he perhaps hadn't before some of the ways in which Uther has failed as a king. He also consciously acts in deception of Uther, because he can see Uther can't see sense. Arthur shows far more nuance of view than Uther does, understanding (even whilst still accepting as he will for a long time that magic is dangerous and it corrupts) that using magic doesn't make you automatically evil. To see the world the way Uther does is a conscious choice, you have to choose to be blind to the virtues of every apparent magic user you come across, you have to believe harmless spells are the signs of greater evil. Arthur is not someone who lets his own cowardice blind himself to reality, and so his worldview can see far more nuance than Uther can.
"One's the act of kindness, of love, the other of evil. I don't believe evil's in this girl's heart."
He further has a very positive view of others, Arthur will always see the good in people and that is a great strength in my view. In a lot of versions of the story Arthur's not just inspiring because he's good but because he assumes others are good too, he trusts people to do the right thing and I do believe that, that can inspire people to do the right thing. It's funny in Merlin Arthur's trust gets betrayed so many times but it never really hardens his heart, he continues to trust people no matter how many times he gets betrayed. This can be seen in his perception of Guinevere here, he will not assume she is evil because she has made a mistake, he can see the virtue in her actions, and he will assume goodness until proven otherwise. Innocent until proven guilty, in other words. It's its own form of justice, a justice Uther is forgetting, its a tenant of many legal systems and its a tenant Arthur clearly supports.
Arthur is also seeing his role as the king of Camelot in creating a Camelot that he would like to live in.
"Yes I am yet to be king, and I don't know what type of king I will be. But I do have a sense of the type of Camelot I would wish to live in. It would be where the punishment fits the crime."
It's not the Camelot he would wish to rule, its the Camelot he would wish to live in. Arthur wants to live in a just world, he wants his people to be treated with justice just as he would like to be treated with justice. This further illustrates that unlike Uther he is not letting anger or ignorance blind him to reality, he wants the world he lives in to be fair without exception.
Finding the Balance between The Greater Good and The Immediate Good
The Greater Good is a tricky concept, you can justify any amount of cruelty if it will lead to good later on, but do the ends justify the means? It's not really a question its ever possible to provide a definitive answer for. It's easy to say that they don't, that you should just do the right thing, the nice thing, the good thing in the moment but actions have consequences and doing the good thing all the time (especially in a position where thousands of lives depend on you) is not usually possible. Merlin tackles this theme, I believe, quite well, trying to find a balance between acting for the greater good and acting with what is immediately good, and this episode is a good example.
In a just and fair world you would be able to do good all the time, but this is not the case for everything, though you should never use the worlds not fair as an argument for not doing good things but I digress. Merlin's decision to save Gwen's father ultimately backfires on Gwen because the world is not fair, the world Uther has created mean even these acts of love are punishable with death. Because, for Uther, magic is magic, and magic is evil. Gaius was, in this situation, ultimately right, Merlin can't always do what is easy and what feels right because the consequences may not be good. In other matters like closing off the lower town, Arthur's initial response is concern for the people who live their, but Uther's right he has to make this one tough decision because otherwise he risks the whole city.
However, Uther's attitude to Gwen (aside from revealing his own stubbornness and prejudice) is an example of the greater good taken too far. He has absolutely no evidence that killing Gwen will stop this plague, but he's making that sacrifice anyway because it might, that is not justice or fair or anything resembling goodness. And he justifies his decisions with what I've already said is an age old argument- "These decisions must be made. There are dark forces threatening this kingdom." This is just another version of any easy choice, acting without regard to the greater good is an easy choice but so is ignoring what is immediately right in pursuit of some ambiguous goodness. He's confusing his own weakness and ignorance for strength.
The point Merlin is, I believe trying to make is that there must be a balance. Sometimes you have to pursue the greater good, but the ends don't really justify the means.
There is a reason Arthur and Merlin will create the Camelot of legend and Uther and Gaius don't, Merlin and Arthur aren't going to sacrifice their own goodness for the sake of the greater good. Merlin for one ensures Arthur never has to, its sad but Merlin in many ways makes the harsh and cruel decisions that Arthur never has to make. However, he also often doesn't make those decisions. He reaches a point where he wants to let people die, but he never actively attempts to kill Morgana or Mordred by himself unless it is an absolute in the moment choice between them and Arthur, and even though there is plenty of moral ambiguity about that and plenty of debates you can have about that. Fundamentally the point remains, Uther would have killed them and that's why he could never be the king Arthur would be or the influence for decency Merlin would be, the ends don't ever entirely justify the means. Besides if Merlin had thought that and killed Mordred and Morgana for their possible futures he would not have been the decent person he was and he could not have helped Arthur build a good Camelot, Camelot would not have existed if Merlin had acted entirely with the greater good in mind to ensure Camelot's future.
Other Stuff
Gwen's scene in the cell is so terribly sad, she's trying to be brave and her final request to Merlin is just so sad, "Remember me." She's so young and its the injustice and cruelty of Uther's kingdom that's condemning her, his own blindness to anything involving magic. We all want to be remembered don't we, especially when you die so young that you've barely had the chance to live. -----Also Guinevere will be remembered, she is a legend so there's something very bittersweet in this. She is not forgotten, then or ever
It's funny watching back to season 1, Merlin spends a lot of the time complaining about how Arthur will never recognise him for who he is. He wants recognition. But by the end of the show, yes of course he'd like recognition but he's learnt to just put up with never getting it. His priorities have changed so much.
There's this thing that happens a lot in season 1 and 2 (and I think a bit in season 3 but its less funny then) where Morgana persuades Arthur to do things by insulting him and its the funniest thing ever, and the first instance of it is here. I like to call these her 'epic sibling powers' cause they are just such siblings and its hilarious every time
"You are one side of the coin, Arthur is the other."- Kilgaharrah--> Just, yes.
Also when Arthur gets Merlin out of when Merlin confesses to being a sorcerer—> he's obviously making stuff up on the spot—> like he might sort of believe it (the stuff about Gwen) but fundamentally he's just trying to protect him without really knowing for sure why Merlin's lying
"One day people won't believe what an idiot you were."- Gaius--> Fun little nod to the audience who know Merlin of legend (as nothing like the BBC Merlin)
Also at this point we don't know why Uther really banned magic so there is an element of moral greyness to it all. We know magic's not evil, we know Uther went too far but at this point there is still a question about 'how too far' did he go?

In Defense of TPN S2
Okay, so before y’all start throwing your salt shakers at me, let me explain. Yes, I’m just as upset and annoyed with how the second season decided to cut out so much content that us manga readers were finally hoping to see: no Yuugo, Goldy Pond arc or GP Resistance, Lucas or Glory Bell escapees, Adam, poachers, or Cuvitidala Search. Since this season also (sort of) reached the 2047 time skip, we were also denied of the Paradise Hideout, Jin, Hayato, Ayshe, the Seven Walls & Imperial Capital Battle arcs and Alex due to the anime’s so-called “original story” idea. While some manga events still took place (B06-32 getting blown up, the trio’s reunion, Norman’s time at Lambda, the cursed blood and the Grace Field raid), they were all significantly changed and barely held the same emotional impact, as we see very little to no build up to these moments. Several volumes were skipped completely and despite others being touched lightly, we unfortunately missed out on major character development for everyone, most notably for Emma, but also the lighter side of things such as chef Ray, medic Anna, Rossi learning morse code, Minerva!Norman, etc. There’s honestly so much of the main story to talk about and I totally understand why we’re all so ticked off, especially since that darn slideshow did absolutely nothing to calm our hearts at the end of ep11.
Tumblr media
However.. I’m not gonna stand by and say this season was worthless. Highly disappointing given everything I just mentioned of course, I get it, so don’t curse me out just yet. People can trash talk it all they want and I’ll sympathize 110%, but I personally won’t do so. I love this series too much and that’s a huge reason as to why I didn’t drop this season. Usually whenever I start a new series, it’s because I become interested in a character or two. I find that no matter what happens in that series, whether the story intrigues me or not, I’ll continue it if only to see more of that character. If the story is good, it’s just another plus for me to stay addicted, so while this season totally missed their chance to adapt the wonderful source material of my favorite series, I stayed to watch Emma, Ray and all the other children I’ve grown to love over the past two years. Another reason why I stayed on this train wreck was because of how thought provoking it became as turned into yet another guessing game for me. After first watching the OP and even more after ep3 aired, I kept wondering what would they include or leave out. How would they handle this scene if this and that were already changed? How would they fix this problem if so and so isn’t here? It felt like I was watching season one blind all over again; seeing all these little clues sprinkled everywhere and yet not having any idea on how the story was going to continue or end got me excited. That’s why I came to love this story in the first place, so having the chance to feel that again alongside characters I love so dearly.. it was fun for me (until the slideshow punched me in the face). While many people will look at this season and declare the manga and first season are both superior (which they are, I agree), I’m still sitting over here like “oh look, more content!”
With all that nonsense out of the way, I thought I would go ahead and ramble about everything I believe the second season did well enough, because if I can take any heat off this adaptation then you’re damn right I’m gonna try. So if you’re wondering why on earth a manga reader even mildly enjoyed this season, it’s honestly just the little things such as a decently adapted or improved panel/scene, any new, interesting elements the anime may have included, or other personal favorite moments of mine.. which there were a lot of.
So no negativity past here kiddos, we’re gonna be as optimistic and lively as an orange antenna.
(mild manga spoiler warning, I guess? but I’m sure it’s nothing y’all haven’t heard us readers mention/complain about already)
- If you’ve read any of my reactions to this season, you would know how much love I have for “Identity.” Not only is the song still an absolute banger, but the opening sequence itself is fantastic. From the contrast between human vs demon, the cameos, the symbolism, the match cuts, the build up to the chorus.. just everything. I could talk about it endlessly and watch it several times over and still be impressed.
Tumblr media
- Lani’s stupid fall.
Tumblr media
- How clearly it shows Emma’s condition becoming progressively worse.
Tumblr media
- Her scream.
Tumblr media
- Ray’s apology, especially how soft his voice was when saying “sorry, Emma,” and the smile he gives after she tells him not to worry about it.
Tumblr media
- And his entire promise to keep everyone in their family safe. Oh I was so happy to finally hear him say that.
Tumblr media
- This exchange between Don and Gilda.
Tumblr media
- Rossi and those darn faces he gives us. This boy is such a mood.
Tumblr media
- How involved the younger kids were so they don’t feel like they were just.. there, which served as a reminder that everyone from Grace Field is smart, not just Emma and Ray.
Tumblr media
- How pretty the demon forest looked at night when all those odd creatures started glowing (even those darn goowee).
Tumblr media
- So happy with how this panel was adapted. That smirk of his is everything.
Tumblr media
- The fact they remembered a small detail such as the bell.
Tumblr media
- Knowing now that they cut so much out of the manga, I’m glad we at least got the hug.
Tumblr media
- The ending sequence gave us a small look at Sonja and Mujika’s travels by themselves. “Magic” is also so very calming to listen to.
Tumblr media
- How the children hug both Emma and Ray, as manga only had our girl receiving the hugs.
Tumblr media
- Sonju & Mujika’s voice actors fit them perfectly.
Tumblr media
- How impressed Ray was when he first tried their cooking. No wonder he was so eager to learn how to cook.
Tumblr media
- Sonju’s story about the demon world from ch46-47 practically adapted word for word.
Tumblr media
- While the manga also shows us how frighted the duo is upon learning they’re living in the worst case scenario, it’s seeing them and their hands physically shake that help push this scene a little bit more (not that you can tell this by a still frame but trust me).
Tumblr media
- Their synchronized smirks and how well their excitement was not only animated but how genuine and real it sounds too. Emma’s laugh and the fact they made Ray of all people sound hopeful is fantastic.
Tumblr media
- They kept the small Ray from this panel and made him better.
Tumblr media
- I just love seeing him be optimistic.
Tumblr media
- The entire scene when Emma & Ray are both scolded by the younger kids for acting so recklessly is perfect.
Tumblr media
- They kept this tiny comment of Nat’s.
Tumblr media
- Finally getting chef Ray and hearing how confident he is with his cooking skills already.
Tumblr media
- Seeing other children like Dominic pick up archery and be surprisingly good at it.
Tumblr media
- Anime pushed Emma’s quick learning ability further with archery by showing us how easily she could land a bullseye even after hitting something midair.
Tumblr media
- How well they animated Emma’s first kill, from following the arrow as she pulls it back to when she releases it as it flies towards the bird’s eye.
Tumblr media
- The fact that this scene and the next both used a water droplet to symbolize death just like we saw during season one with Conny and Norman’s shipments are so satisfying.
Tumblr media
- The gupna scene and how well it emphasized Emma’s reaction to taking a life and how upset/bothered she was in doing so. The addition of a butterfly helps as well, as it’s another way this series tends to convey the idea of death. (you remember how many the OP had, right? tons.)
Tumblr media
- I only just noticed that Ray is seen looking at a similar butterfly in the following scene as well.
Tumblr media
- The anime doing this panel justice. Ep2 is probably the episode that follows the manga the closest and did real well in regards to that.
Tumblr media
- Ray beating Sonju at chess.
Tumblr media
- Chris knowing exactly which way to go without using the compass, which makes sense as he was seen mapping out the surrounding area in the previous episode.
Tumblr media
- The kid’s adorable little freak out.-
Tumblr media
- Giving us a better idea on how large the reference room of the B06-32 shelter truly is.
Tumblr media
- Finally being able to hear our boy Nat play the piano. The fact that his first song is named “Nat King Cool” as a possible reference to Nat King Cole is also great.
Tumblr media
- Rossi being an accurate representation of the manga readers while watching this episode.
Tumblr media
- Chris being his cute self.
Tumblr media
- Seeing Ray’s sleeping face after the manga denied us so many times by hiding it.
Tumblr media
- It’s.. close enough. We love our chef.
Tumblr media
- I love the idea that Nat plays a couple songs before everyone goes to sleep. That’s so precious.
Tumblr media
- SHE!! With her hair down!
Tumblr media
- Rossi teasing Don and the fact that just mentioning Gilda is enough to scare him.
Tumblr media
- It remembered that Gilda has a tendency to count all the children.
Tumblr media
- The level of confidence Isabella has in her kids.
Tumblr media
- Ray being oh so close to shooting a human with an arrow.
Tumblr media
- This hug.
Tumblr media
- Chris leading the group through the underground tunnels, which he also does in manga but we learn earlier in this ep it’s due to all the time he’s played down here.
Tumblr media
- Because of his extensive knowledge of the shelter’s layout, Chris also guides everyone to one of the secret entrances to escape after he realizes the intruders are only stationed at the main two.
Tumblr media
- Ray’s first demon kill is smooth as hell.
Tumblr media
- Curse this scene for being so dark because that damn smile Isabella gives us is amazing.
Tumblr media
- Since Andrew was cut, Chris and Dominic survive the aftermath of the shelter’s destruction without any injuries.
Tumblr media
- Although we weren’t expecting to see their older 2047 selves this soon, they look good okay?
Tumblr media
- The emotion in her voice throughout this entire scene (probably the closest we were ever gonna get to Emma doubting herself in ch109/114 too).
Tumblr media
- Please just let me enjoy this moment when Ray noticed her negative thoughts and stepped in to help just as I expected.
Tumblr media
- Vylk and that goofy smile of his.
Tumblr media
- Watching the duo communicate without words during the chase through the demon town.
Tumblr media
- Our girl clearing this jump effortlessly.
Tumblr media
- Norman’s squishy cheeks.
Tumblr media
- Ray’s slap could’ve been better, I know, but at this point I’m happy they still included it.
Tumblr media
- The fact we can see Ray’s face during the reunion hug this time.
Tumblr media
- And this hug.
Tumblr media
- Remembering the small panel of Ray noticing Emma’s bluff.
Tumblr media
- Finally hearing this conversation because both voice actors do a wonderful job with it and thankfully the dialogue is on par with the manga as well. Also that one moment when the shadow falls across Emma’s face like that.
Tumblr media
- Gilda comforting Alicia after her nightmare.
Tumblr media
- The scene is very dear to me so of course I appreciate every little panel we can get.
Tumblr media
- How carefree Ray sounded with his “Nopes.”
Tumblr media
- How I only realized just now that this panel was also adapted.
Tumblr media
- Okay so who’s brilliant idea was it to have the sun rise towards the end of this conversation as Ray helps Emma regain her confidence? I just wanna personally thank them because it was a genius move and I’ll treasure it forever.
Tumblr media
- They kept Barbara’s slip-up.
Tumblr media
- Like our demon friends, I think the Lambda crew’s voices fit them rather well, although Zazie’s was totally unexpected, like dude you’re 5, why is your voice so low?
Tumblr media
- Another “it could’ve been better but at least they included it” moment.
Tumblr media
- Vincent’s smile here cracks me up and I don’t know why.
Tumblr media
- Barbara’s anger.
Tumblr media
- The short snippet we get of the ch126 conversation when the duo was visiting Chris.
Tumblr media
- The table from Barbara’s outrage was never magically fixed like it was in manga, so we get this nice shot of Norman reflected in the broken surface.
Tumblr media
- The trio’s conversation about the royals and cursed blood follows manga relatively well.
Tumblr media
- Anime did this panel better, I’m sorry. Thank you for showing my girl getting angry.
Tumblr media
- This frame of Ray.
Tumblr media
- This comment of Norman’s that made me wanna slap him.
Tumblr media
- How Norman’s face is constantly in the shadows during this scene, which is something his office at the Paradise hideout probably wouldn’t have given us, so hurray for this location instead.
Tumblr media
- How he and Emma bicker over how many days their deal should last.
Tumblr media
- When the camera shifts in and out of focus during Barbara’s seizure.
Tumblr media
- How this scene hid Norman’s face until they revealed the demon the crew killed.
Tumblr media
- It really is the small details that make me happy.
Tumblr media
- This smile of Don’s.
Tumblr media
- I’ll take all the hugs I can get.
Tumblr media
- Emma and Gilda’s little headbutt.
Tumblr media
- Why does my boy look so grown up and handsome here? Hello??
Tumblr media
- I suppose I have to give credit for Peter’s voice actor too hm?
Tumblr media
- Actually making Smee a bit more relevant.
Tumblr media
- Since the fight against Legravalima was cut, this shot of Zazie is the closest we’re gonna get to seeing him without his paper bag, but it does improve on that one panel of him at the start of ch153.
Tumblr media
- Seeing more of Norman’s time at Lambda as well as the aftermath of the explosion.
Tumblr media
- While this scene pales in comparison to its manga counterpart, having the sun set behind him while Norman delivers his famous line was still a decent touch. It’s a nice contrast to the sunrise in ep6 and I enjoy it very much.
Tumblr media
- Wild demons managing to somehow successful jump scare me not once, not twice, but three times in a single episode.
Tumblr media
- Emma getting back up to protect her family despite her injury. (i mean, it’s no ch93 comeback but oh well)
Tumblr media
- Ray getting in another decent shot at a demon.
Tumblr media
- This face of his.
Tumblr media
- Seeing just how quickly the drug causes the demons to degenerate and all the chaos it causes.
Tumblr media
- Actually showing Norman attacking a demon rather than just saying he killed Yverk off panel in ch153.
Tumblr media
- Hate me all you want but the anime did this panel better too.
Tumblr media
- The ch153 discussion is more or less the same but the fact they added in Norman looking to Ray for help and just having him snap back instead was priceless.
Tumblr media
- Sonju’s grin.
Tumblr media
- The scene when Norman stops Zazie’s attack may only last like five seconds but it’s wonderfully animated and I find myself replaying it countless times.
Tumblr media
- How to make the manga readers and anime-onlys panic with just one sentence:
Tumblr media
- Isabella being clever as ever by leaking false info into the radio the escapees have to lure them back to Grace Field.
Tumblr media
- I just think Emma looks so mature and pretty here?
Tumblr media
- Had Norman actually apologize to the demons.. or was just about to anyways.
Tumblr media
- Demon Emma is precious and must be protected.
Tumblr media
- The adorable mixup between both Emmas.
Tumblr media
- I haven’t a clue on where or how the kids managed to gather all the supplies to create several hot air balloons and explosives.. but they did, somehow, and I’m impressed because I’m assuming that all happened within a day.
Tumblr media
- Ma’am, could you be any more smug?
Tumblr media
- Simon! And he ends up surviving!
Tumblr media
- Having Sonju fight alongside the Lambda crew.
Tumblr media
- Which reminds me that this is possible since the Imperial Capital battle didn’t happen (yet, in this timeline), so the three of them never received their injuries from Legravalima either.
Tumblr media
- The smoke bombs, only because I remembered how Sonju used them back in ep1 while rescuing Ray so it’s nice to see them being used again.
Tumblr media
- Showing Norman actually use a bow and arrow this time. He also hits his target on the first try through a smokescreen.
Tumblr media
- Ray having enough strength to knock out two demons with a simple metal pipe. In ch169 he’s seen holding down a grown man so yeah, I can believe this as well.
Tumblr media
- Having Jemima, Yvette, Rossi & Mark disguises themselves as shipments in order to rally up the other Grace Field kids. Mark’s face and the noise he makes upon seeing Naila again is also precious.
Tumblr media
- Peter actually falling for Vincent’s trap.
Tumblr media
- Getting one young child to listen to you is hard enough, but Emma manages to get about 183 of them (yes I counted, give or take the four who also disguised themselves) to follow her orders in no time flat.
Tumblr media
- Phil helping with the plan to lead all the children to the elevator.
Tumblr media
- It made me nervous upon seeing it but they made the Day & Night ceiling real pretty.
Tumblr media
- I knew the reunion was coming and still cried.
Tumblr media
- Take all my hell yeahs.
Tumblr media
- I could listen to her say this on repeat and be overjoyed every single time.
Tumblr media
- She’s beauty, she’s grace, she’ll point at gun in your face.
Tumblr media
- Getting to witness someone shoot at Peter since no one did so in the manga? Wonderful. Having that person be Isabella who literally lands a perfect shot not even a full second after he pulls out that disc? Perfection.
Tumblr media
- Mujika and Vylk bringing in hundreds of civilian demons as reinforcements.
Tumblr media
- James!
Tumblr media
- Those real quick shots of the ancestors because I had given up on thinking we would’ve seen them at all since the Seven Walls arc was skipped.
Tumblr media
- I’m actually surprised they kept his death in and it’s as harsh as the manga.
Tumblr media
- Ray confronting Isabella with the addition of this line.
Tumblr media
- This panel being animated along with Emma’s thoughts from ch177 towards Isabella even though that chapter’s major event didn’t happen.
Tumblr media
- I certainly can not forget about this hug.
Tumblr media
- At least anime!Emma told the boys her plan before reaching the door, or didn’t keep it a total secret? If not then I’ll praise the boys for accepting her crazy idea regardless.
Tumblr media
- Boy, do you know how much I love you and your smirks?
Tumblr media
- SHE. STAYS. ALIVE!!!
Tumblr media
- Vincent and Norman’s little fist bump.
Tumblr media
- Different but close enough. Still cute though.
Tumblr media
- The amount of emotions this one shot makes me feel is limitless. Catch me crying tears of joy over it for the rest of my life.
Tumblr media
- Having Phil not only getting the chance to see a train but to ride one as well.
Tumblr media
- This pretty shot of Gilda.
Tumblr media
- As well as this beautiful one with Emma and Mujika.
Tumblr media
- They gave us older Phil. Not sure how much older but he’s still adorable.
Tumblr media
- Lastly, the goddamn soundtrack! Of course we heard a bunch of the songs from season one, but the new ones such as “The Evil-Blooded Girl” and the Arabic version of “Isabella’s Lullaby” are absolutely fantastic. I still have to listen to full soundtrack but from what little bit I heard of such songs such as “Nat King Ballade,” “Crisis,” “Norman’s Lament,” and “The Temple Ruins,” I’m sure every track is an absolute joy. I’m so happy we had Obata back for this season.
Tumblr media
And that’s the end of it, I guess? Of course it’s not a perfect list, as the majority of it was just personal favorites of mine but oh well. (this is just as long as ray’s birthday post too, oh lord)
I’m not gonna be one of those manga readers who continuously nag people to go read the original source material, because that’s annoying and I understand that some people just might not be up for it. They might watch a series, take it all in and then move on to the next one. Others might want to find out about every little detail and invest more time into the story. It’s totally fine to enjoy a series your own way and you shouldn’t feel pressured to continue something you’re only mildly interested in or feel bad that you love something others might despise. Just do whatever makes you happy. If you wanna check out the manga and see why us readers love it to pieces, then I promise it’s worth it, especially if you enjoyed the anime or wish to see more of any character.. or the entire story. If the manga ain’t for you, then I hope the anime did something for you. It definitely could have been better though, I can’t argue with that.
Whether you’re anime-only or manga reader, can we all still hope for a remake? This season had more flaws than any amount of praise I could give, but if years down the line we get the FMA: Brotherhood or Hellsing: Ultimate treatment where the next anime adaptation follows the manga perfectly, you know I’ll be all for it. I’m too deep in this TPN hole and I’ll probably never leave.

Reviewing Grey's Anatomy Episodes but this time its Season 17
(To those people on my page who don't watch Grey's Anatomy but are being subjected to this I'm so sorry but I really just like to vent about this show.)
Its season 17 now Yay.
They're dealing with the covid 19 pandemic and I'm sure the writers probably did lots of research to make sure that they had the most accurate representation of the situation in the hospitals and otherwise.
___________________________________________
First we're going to start with the love triangle that is Teddy, Tom and Owen.
Owen
Now this is in no way excusing what he's done in the past for the longest while I've loathed Owen Hunt but..... now I feel sorry for him. He saw he had a problem he went to therapy to get himself right, he was actually a good partner for once and communicated in his relationship, he took his time and didn't jump into marriage spontaneously and then Teddy cheated on him over but dial to be heard by everyone in the operating theater with Owen on their wedding day. (I don't want to sound bad but this might also be karma coming to but him in the ass.) I felt so much 2nd hand embarrassment for him and the pain he had in his face the whole time he pretended not to know about her cheating was just oof. I loved though the end where he drove away for the mean time I really do agree with him taking some time and space before he makes a decision. Most of the times he made a lot of sudden decisions that later came back to bite him.
Teddy
Oh Teddy, she used to be one of my favorite characters from a little after she came to the time she left but now they just carried her character so far down hill that it's hard to keep the same energy I had before, now. Everyone at Grey Sloan is on Owen's side and giving her the cold shoulder and she really wants everyone to mind their own business (I honestly agree though, you're in the middle of a pandemic mind your business and do your job now isn't the time to be shunning coworkers because they cheated.) However when she did explain her side I kinda understood it a bit better. It's still an awful thing to do but I know plenty of people who sabotage their own happiness because they aren't used to it. Hell I do it myself sometimes. But then I was also pissed when she just pretended she did nothing wrong at first. First thing first she acted kinda offended when Owen explained why he hadn't called to cancel the wedding to her. Was it kinda sus? The answer is yes but you literally cheated on him that same day, you needed the extra time sis. Not to mention the several time he hinted to her that he knew and gave her the chance to confess yet she lied through her teeth whenever he hinted at it and flat out lied again when he asked if she had anything to confess. I get the whole sabotage route but God was I happy when Owen got in his truck, drove off and left her.
Tom
I was honestly rooting for Tom in the beginning, despite him being a douche I knew deep down he had a heart somewhere, but I actually started to feel less sorry for him last season when he continued to sleep with Teddy despite knowing her situation which he pointed out to her several times and she still ignored it. I know he loves her but let's be honest, she's going to pick Owen as long as he decides to actually take her back and Tom will be left alone and heart broken with his $100000 worth of boxes in booties and a golf club to measure 6 ft distance between him and everyone else. Honestly I kinda saw a panic attack coming, if they're treating Teddy bad then they're probably treating him even more like crap based on the fact that no one besides Teddy, Catherine and maybe Amelia liked him to begin with. This may also be an unpopular opinion but I actually agree with Catherine for making him resign of chief of all chiefs his head hasn't and probably won't be in the game for a while. At least he still gets to be head of neuro. He bought a whole $100000 dollars in booties alone by mistake during an already tough pandemic between that and everything else going on around him I'm not surprised he broke. What did surprise me was that no one even went near him to help even after the attack was finished. Dislike him or not at least ask him how he's doing geeze.
___________________________________________
Jo and Jackson (Never thought I'd have to put the two of them together in a title.)
Truly the biggest shock of the night besides the trailer for next week which I will freak out about later.
Jo
So Jo has decided that in order for her to feel herself again she has to do the devils tango with someone and because they're in a pandemic and she trusts him she chose Jackson. The night of the appointment to do the deed Jo ends up crying in his mouth. The way she treated him afterwards at first was a little uncalled for in my opinion, I mean she was the one who asked for the favor. But later they talked and it was all cool again. Jo didn't really have that big of a plot this episode so not too much to talk about.
Jackson
Agreed way to quickly to doing the devils tango with Jo if you ask me. Seems a little sus. I really hope they aren't rushing him and Jo into anything give the girl some room to breath and also give Jackson a proper plot he seems to be a plot filler for everyone right now like they have no real purpose for him on the show at the moment. I'm beginning to really think that he was the one who was supposed to die last season. I really do love his and Richard's relationship. Jackson never really had a good father and Webber seems to be filling that spot quite nicely. Him pushing Webber to fight to get better and convince him that his career can be saved was heartwarming. And can we take a moment to talk about Harriet finally appearing from the world of Narnia to bless us with her presence? And boy was she a blessing. That baby that plays Harriet was awesome from her repeating Vic saying she can't be a step mom all to her facial expressions. I hope to see baby Harriet again very soon. But speaking of Vic, did she not know that Jackson was a father? How the hell did she expect to never run into her at some point? Then there's the whole question of what did she even expect of the relationship with Jackson if she never intended to even try to accept being around his daughter? also if she really want to be Robbie Rotten from Lazy town and avoid being around kids, maybe she should call or text first instead of showing up in just a fluffy jacket and nothing else.
___________________________________________
Deluca
Glad to see he finally got the help he needed and is back put tho work. I felt so upset last season when everyone just treated him like crap without trying to help him, but they made up for it a little by trying to help him with the intervention. He was also right about the sex trafficking case and I was so glad to see that he was able to be there as her doctor. Plus he's now also finally in dark blue scrubs it has felt like forever before he got those but I digress. He is now on his way once again to be a kick ass surgeon with the awesome skills hes already showcasing. I just hope he continues to look after himself. Deluca shine like the star you are babe.
___________________________________________
Maggie
Has finally found a man who understands her, he is so nice and kind and caring the whole episode I was mentally yelling go get it hun to the screen. She deserves someone who can take her seriously and understand her awkwardness as well as her tendencies finally she has stepped out of the role of cheerleader and support character and is branching out to something else and I'm here for it. And her yelling at Catherine, to share her piece of mind. I was so proud. Go get it sis.
___________________________________________
Richard
Richard Webber is back in the building, finally the king has returned to himself and already solving problems in day one. At the beginning when he publicly called Catherine a pain in the ass I was so stoked I finally thought that he was done being pushed around by her but then he took her back in the end it also kinda felt like she bought him in order to get him back with the hiring him as the new chief of chiefs but I wish them the best of luck, Webber deserves to be happy. I was also happy to see him and Bailey interacting like friends again. For a while it was awkward between them but now it's like the balance has been restored. Side note, him laughing at Teddy and Owen made me laugh so loudly especially when he asked Teddy if her name was still Altman despite the fact he clearly knew about the phonecall drama, not gonna lie I'd do the same.
___________________________________________
Catherine
Not much there, just her being angry at the pandemic and loss of money, lack of power to save lives as well as trying to win Webber back which she successfully did after firing Koracick and giving Richard his job and finally giving him a heartfelt apology without being petty.
___________________________________________
Bailey
It might just be me but so far despite the fact that it's only been 2 episodes. Bailey seems somewhat better this season. Her guilt over Deluca was definitely warranted but at least she tried to make up for it (and just like Harriet her OCD has decided to rejoin us for a visit from Narnia.) For the past few seasons she's been a slight pain but now she seems more like herself.
Her and Ben are adorable as usual, coming every 12 hours to clap for the doctors just to see her then the cute hand signals they made for each other, between Ben, Link and recently added to the group of awesome partners Winston, I'm beginning to wonder where I can find me one of these super thoughtful understanding handsome men. The two guys that knocked her over as well spraining her ankle really should have to pay or something or at least apologize, they literally just knocked a doctor off her feet and made her wheel chair bound, the chief ro be exact. Her and Webber are on talking terms and well again but she really needs to know how to express concern better. She once told Ben that when she's scared she yells but a lot of things would have gone a lot more smoothly if she'd just reminded him he was a high risk for covid and state her concern for him to begin with instead of barking out orders.
I'm also wondering if shes going to be able to handle the whole Covid situation so well for the whole time, with all the chaos and disorganization with the whole ordeal not to mention the whole fit she had with the germs in the episode. I think it'll be a good storyline now that Grey's seems to be bringing mental awareness back up.
___________________________________________
Link and Amelia
They have now officially reached my list along with Ben and Bailey and a few others that are no longer on the show that have reached the stage of killing the couple goals on this show.
Despite the fact that they're not only raising their own baby but also Bailey, Ellis and Zola yet their relationship is still solid. I'm so proud of my baby Amelia she has come a long way from the woman who didn't even want kids to begin with.
I loved the fact that he wasn't upset over her forgetting his birthday and acted like nothing was wrong, just so she wouldn't feel bad about forgetting. I would have been livid set a reminder on your phone babes. Either way she definitely made up for it later with the whole redoing his birthday thing. Also welcome to the world Scout. Looking forward to seeing them more often.
___________________________________________
Levi
How did it all turn so bad, Nico has turned into such a jerk at this point I'm not even sure I'd be to upset if he left if it wasn't for the fact that I ship the person he was before and Levi so much I'm still hoping that they'll go back to how they were before Nico became a lying hypocrite. At the end I was practically begging Levi to push him away, Nico doesn't deserve it not after the way he treated him and he hasn't even shown a hint of remorse to this day.
___________________________________________
Meredith
The biggest shock of the whole episode. I honestly knew something was going to happen to her from the time she fell asleep and started the dream on the beach. Dreaming of beaches have never been a good sign on Grey's I just thought she was going to collapse from stress because she really had been pushing herself all episode. The thing with Meredith is that she cares so much for her patients and does anything she can to save them, but based on the preview of the next episode and the tests they showed it doesn't seem to be test. And let's just talk about that huge bombshell they dropped by bringing back Derek I never thought I'd see Patrick Dempsey on the show again. By the end of the episode I was already literally shaking in anticipation for the next episode. I know they can't kill Meredith, without her there literally is no Grey's Anatomy. That being said I really hope they don't give her cancer, (I know Patrick is involved with helping a charity for cancer.) And I also really hope she isn't getting alzheimers I just hope it's nothing serious in general. She's been through enough man. I just want this to be a really touching moment where I get to see Merder have some touching moments and it doesn't end up to be Izzie and Denny all over again. I don't think anyone is ready to handle that. I read in a spoiler that there's supposed to be some more visitors arriving on the beach and I'm stoked for it so I really hope it's a real spoiler I'm tired of rewatching the newer seasons to experience some of the old joy.
___________________________________________
Imma need them to give that intern Perez an official recurring contract for the show because he is currently one of the best things to come on that show in years. He's a breath of fresh air.

A/N: I know I usually do one of these at the end, but thanks to my new friend @bisexualbaby2001, has said that I need to clarify the ages of some of my characters. In particular Peter Parker. Peter is 18 YEARS OLD.
As I’ve said before I’ve been overwhelmed by the positive support guys, thank you soo much, it truly means a lot to me! xxx
Happy reading guys!!
22 Weeks.
You didn’t know what it was. Whether it was the low glow, of Steve and Bucky’s lamps, or the fact that the clock on the wall sounded way louder than it usually did. Or whether it was the fact that two growing lumps, where currently playing a game of chase in your womb. Whatever it was it was stopping you from falling asleep.
You let a frustrated groan, fall from your lips, which caused Bucky to look up from the book he was reading.
“What’s the matter, sweetheart?” He reached around your body, that was curled up in his side, to rub his hand the length of your spine.
“I can’t sleep.” you huff, Steve looks up from the tablet he was scrolling through, to give you a sympathetic smile.
“Do we need to turn our lights off, are they bothering you?” Steve traced his fingers up and down your arm. You sighed again and sat up from your squished position, between Steve and Bucky.
“I don’t know. These babies want stop wriggling. And I’m just so tired.” you voice cracks a little at the end of your complaint. Bucky looks to you with compassion, and pulls you closer to his side.
“Oh, baby. It’s alright. How can we help?” he rubs his hand over your knee, and you lean into Bucky’s side.
“I don't know that either. Can you just talk to me?” you look up at him, he gives you an empathetic smile, before he puckers his lips, and you gladly except his silent offer, placing a kiss on his lips.
“Of course we can, honey. What do you wanna talk about?” He helps you to lay down, Steve sets the tablet to one side, and lays with you, you both look up at Bucky.
“I don’t know.” you shrug, looking to Steve for some assistance.
“How about you tell us about the book you’re reading, Buck?” Steve suggests, you smile and nod, snuggling further into Steve’s arms.
“I don't know if you want to hear, sweetie.” Bucky grimaces.
“Why not, Alpha. Is it rude?” you giggle, and squirm, when Steve chuckles, before nibbling on your neck.
“No, no it isn't rude.” He defends, he angles the cover so you can read it, and you giggle again, only this time in adoration, when you read the title.
‘What to Expect When You’re Expecting’
“Thought I’d do a little bit of research before the pups come.” he says, a tint of redness graces his cheeks. and you couldn't help, but warm at the care and thought that your Alpha was putting into his future career.
“Wow, thanks for making me look like a bad Alpha, Buck.” Steve jests, squeezing you a little tighter.
“No Alpha, you aren't bad.” you twist in his arms, to pepper his face with kisses, just to prove to him he wasn’t a bad Alpha.
“Thank you, little one.” he praises, giving you one final kiss on your lips, before you spin once again in his arms, so you could rest your head on Bucky’s duvet covered lap. Your hands were still tightly clamped onto Steve’s, and every now and then, you would give them a little squeeze, which would be returned.
“Maybe, I should read you a few pages. To get you caught up.” Bucky laughs, and Steve chuckles, nodding resting his chin on your shoulder.
“We’ll start with where you are now.” he licks his thumb, before turning the page. He finds the page with the big 22 written across it.
“Right it says here: this week, your baby is making more sense of the world as it develops it’s sense of touch. Your baby’s grip is strong now, and it can grip it’s own umbilical cord.”
“Wow, we’re gonna have some strong little babies, I can just tell.” Steve smiles, rubbing along your bump.
“I mean one of their daddies, has a metal arm.” you joke, and both your Alpha’s grin at your words.
“The sense of sight is also becoming more fine-tuned. Your fetus can now perceive light and dark much better than before, even though the eyelids are still fused.”
“Here that babies, you supposed to know the difference between light and dark, so you should know it’s bedtime.” you prod your stomach, as you tell your foetuses off. Their response was just to roll over.
“They aren't listening.” you groan, lulling your head back onto the pillow.
Steve and Bucky both turn, so that they are propped up by their elbows, they pull the duvet down, and pull your nightshirt up.
“Pups, it’s your daddies.” you wiggle a little, as the sensation of their lips so close to your belly tickles. But you try and remain still, and look down in admiration, as your two Alphas begin speaking to your tummy.
“Your mommy wants to get some sleep. So you need to just chill out.” Bucky playfully scolds, a soft moan of annoyance escapes you as they continue to just do summersaults.
“That’s not working. It’s making it worst.” you sigh.
“Come on, babies. You need to let your mommy sleep.” They rubbed their palms over your stomach, but the babies just kept twisting.
And then...
You felt it.
It was faint at first, so faint that Bucky and Steve didn’t seem to notice. But you certainly did. You sat bolt right up, placing your own hand, where you just felt the little nudge from inside your belly.
“What, baby. What’s wrong?” Steve eyes, flash with concern. Both of the Alphas spring their hands away worried they had hurt you.
His voice only excites the babies again, and you feel another nudge against your palm.
“Feel, quick.” you grab their hands, placing it where your’s once was. You sit like that for awhile but nothing happens.
“I don't fe-” Bucky stops, his voicing catching in his throat, as his words, cause the babies to elicit another movement, right under his hand.
“Oh my...is that what I think it is?” Steve speaks, his eyes transfixed on your belly, as it jostles under his palm.
“I think so.” you breath a laugh, a third
“Are babies are kicking.” Bucky finally breaks his astonished silence, to press a kiss to your lips.
The babies continue to kick around your womb, and the three of you sit and gaze in wonder at your little miracle.
“Does it hurt?” Steve asks, when a particular kick, makes your back straighten a little.
“Not really. There is the occasional harder one, that leaves me a little breathless.”
“Take it easy in there, little ones. We love mommy.” he kisses just above your bellybutton.
“What does it feel like?” Bucky’s eyes were yet to move from your stomach.
“I don't really know how to explain it. It’s weird, really, weird. Just feels like someone is poking me, but from the inside. It’s strange.”
You sit like that for what feels like hours, both your Alphas feeling and touching your bump. Both taking it in turns to whisper something to your bump, and watch as it moved around, the feeling of a small lump pushing against their hands.
You leaned back against you pillow, the tiredness creeping up on you, as you let out a large yawn.
“Sorry baby, are we keeping you up. Do you wanna get some sleep?” Steve said, suddenly feeling guilty as he glanced over to the clock, to see the flashing red numbers reading, 2:35.
“No I don't want to ruin your fun.”
“Nonsense, sweetie. If you’re tired then we need to let you sleep.” Steve and Bucky moved from their positions either side of your bump, and rolled next to you. They squeeze you between them, Bucky allowing you some room, to lift your leg, and rest it over his thigh, to stop your knees from grinding.
“What should we call them?” you whisper, once you are all comfortable.
“We don't need to worry about that, yet sweetheart.” Steve smiles, you feel him press a kiss into your shoulder blade.
“But, have you thought of any?” you look over your shoulder, watching Steve trace patterns into your arm.
“I’ve thought of a few.” you faced Bucky as he piped up.
“What are your’s?”
“I’ve always like the name Dorothy, I like Dotty for short.”
“Dorothy.” you try the name out on your own lips, you didn’t hate it, you were certainly gonna put it on the list. “It’s cute, makes sense considering she’s gonna be little. Our little Dot.”
Bucky smiles as you say that.
“That’s a definite maybe.” you smile up at him. He grins looking rather happy with himself.
“What about boys names, we can’t forget about our little man?” Steve suggests, rubbing his hand across your stomach.
“Okay, so don't hate me for this..” you hold your hands up, already in a defensive position.
“Honey we could never.” Bucky brushes his nose with your’s.
“Okay, well... I actually don’t mind Samuel.” you squint waiting for Bucky’s response. He sort of just stared at you, as if he hadn't quite heard you.
“I like the name.” you feel Steve smile into your shoulder.
“Thought you would.” you hear Bucky mumbled, turning away slightly.
“It was only a suggestion, Alpha.” you curl into him, hoping by scenting him, he knows you still love him.
“I know, baby. I’m just not quite used to him, and you being such close friends.”
“Me and Sam, or Alpha and Sam?” you mutter, into Bucky’s skin. Bucky head snaps to you, before his eyes, dart to Steve.
“What was that, little Omega?” You feel Steve’s arms snake around you waist, and you giggle as he pulls you close to his chest.
“Nothing, Alpha.”
“Mmhm, sounded like something to me.” he nibbled on your earlobe, and you giggled and squirmed.
“I think, Alpha, feels left out.” you smile, pushing Steve’s head away.
“Aww, come here baby .” Steve says through puckered lips, pulling at Bucky’s arm, the supersoldier, pulling away.
“No, don't start something you can’t finished, our little Omega needs some sleep.
“I can sleep, Alpha, if you and Daddy want to have some fun?” you see his lips twitch slightly, when you call Steve daddy. You roll over Steve, and snuggle into the heat that Steve had left behind, as he perused the brunette Alpha.
“Come on, Buck. Give me a kiss.” Steve, rolls onto of Bucky, straddling his waist. Bucky turns his head, just as Steve tries to capture his lips.
“No Steve we need to go to sleep, it’s almost three in the morning.” Bucky tries to push at Steve’s chest, but he must have not been fighting very hard, as Steve easily overpowers him, smashing their lips together.
Bucky doesn't resist and soon moulds his lips with Bucky’s. You watch as Steve slips his hand between the two of them, travelling down and under the duvet. You know where it must have ended up by the Bucky’s hips jut up into the air.
“Fuck, baby. That feels so good.” Bucky groans into Steve’s mouth.
Steve pushes the covers away, watching as he leaves a trail of kisses down Bucky’s chest. All you can do is look on, and can’t help yourself, but get turned on.
You almost moan at the sight of Bucky’s cock, already hard and pulsating at the tip, a small trickle of pre-cum, dribbles from the top. Steve kisses up Bucky’s thigh, and around his shaft, narrowly missing it each time. You were glad to see that he doesn't only tease with you.
“Shit, Stevie. Please. Please, just put me in your mouth.” you feel a warmth spread up through your body ending at your core, when you hear Bucky beg.
“Considering you asked so nicely. You watching, baby girl?” Steve turns to your now wide awake figure.
“Yes Daddy.”
“Well, don't. This is Alphas’ time now. You need to go to sleep. We don't need you being little miss cranky tomorrow.” your mouth falls open at Steve’s request.
“Please Daddy.”
“No, darlin. Turn around and go to sleep. You said you could sleep through this.” Steve reminds you. He’s grasping the base of Bucky’s cock, and you glance up to look at Bucky’s face. It’s a little sweaty, his eyes are closed and his brow is furrowed, his mouth is hanging open, and every time, Steve adjusts his hand, a small grunt leaves his lips.
“Turn over, little one. Now.” Bucky growled, out of frustration as you were the reason, Steve wasn't blowing him.
You pout, but grab the bed sheet, and twist over, burritoing yourself.
“Good girl. Night, night darlin.” before you could give him any kind of sarcastic response, you are cut off by Bucky as he lets out a massive groan.
“Fuuuuck, Steve.” you can imagine in your head, with the audio being provided for you. Steve’s gripping the base of Bucky’s cock, whilst he kisses the tip softly, the same why he teases your clit. Before he licks a strip up your folds, and you can envision him doing the same to Bucky’s shaft, starting at the base, and slowly making his way to the tip, before wrapping his soft lips around it, and giving it a gentle suck, releasing it from his mouth, with a loud pop.
“That feels so good, baby.” you hear Steve hum around Bucky’s cock, at his words, which caused Bucky to elicit a load of loud grunts.
You peak over your shoulder, to see Steve’s head bobbing up and down, you can just about see his, hand is cupping Bucky’s balls, and he’s rolling them between his fingers.
You whimper at the sight and, Steve halts his movement. Looking up at you, with Bucky’s tip still in his mouth. He just points for you to turn over, but you jut your lip out, hopping that will make him cave, and allow you to watch.
He releases Bucky’s cock with a loud pop, and Bucky huffs in frustration.
“I thought you said you were sleepy, baby?” Steve quirks an eyebrow at you, he strokes Bucky’s shaft whilst he’s talking to you, which makes him breath a sigh of relief.
“I’m sorry Daddy, turns out I can’t sleep.” you pull the covers off of you, and full turn towards Steve.
“Then why don't you come over here, and help Daddy.”

no-sleep 1x09rewatch ramble-essay (all content warnings for the episode apply here)
i was just like. oh i’ll watch a feel-good episode of gossip girl! s1 thanksgiving ep is great isn’t it! blairenate family feels!!! ruflyson love triangle drama!!! vdw siblings AND humphrey siblings hanging out!!! dan’s “see you later waldorf” *salutes & closes the cab door* !!!
& like. yes i DID remember serena’s whole not being sober on thanksgiving thing, and yes i DID remember blair’s ED relapse - which is heavy, but eating disorder content isn’t particularly triggering for me personally (i find it kind of cathartic, if we’re being honest) BUT . i somehow forgot. that THIS was the episode which has howard’s suicide attempt?? and now i have some of the most painful nate feels in the world.
blah blah blah, leight’s acting brought me to tears, which probably doesn’t sound like a very big deal but sort of is, for a variety of reasons (watching things doesn’t usually make me cry, it’s happened maybe a single-digit number of times before + also just my blair feels in general --> she’s a really interesting character but i don’t find her AS relatable as i do dan, or nate, or vanessa, or maybe even serena at times --> so i usually do have a bit of a disconnect re: watching her, which i really do not have for like. dan, for instance.)
i just cannot divorce that very cute outfit blair wears with her ED relapse - which brings me to the next point, which is that blair is maybe THE only character ever for whom her clothing choices and her plotlines are so interwoven in my head (lemon yellow shirt and funky little hat is her mean bridesmaids competitive game day, yellow-&-orange dress is her choose chuck over dan moment, genderqueer plaid skirt and grey shirt is her “dan loves me for me” moment, white shirt with the pink flowers is her get owned by nelly yuki moment, etc etc)... the only other time i noticed outfits is derena cotillion, but that’s just because i LOVE derena cotillion, and date matching shirts, but that’s because i am tuned into all things date and couldn’t possibly tell you what those outfits actually symbolise, with the exception of dan’s pink flannel shirt from when he’s holding milo. or any of the outfits from 2x06 because that is my episode hands down. oh hey would you look at that, i do actually form associations. but you gotta believe me on this, blair’s the one it happens most naturally for, which is very strange. i think it’s because her outfits are always Statements in a way that the other characters never do, except for jenny, who is a fashion designer, so it’s Different for her. what am i trying to say.
oh yeah another iconic outfit is serena’s golden jacket and bright blue pants to the morgue to identify what might be chuck’s corpse. she literally dressed like she was going clubbing and i respect her so much for that.
anyway. gosh. nate just - getting gaslit by his mom, getting reprimanded by his dad for telling his mom to stop being rude/petty... howard was like “don’t fight my fights for me” but nate wasn’t even doing that?? he was just asking his mom Not to be rude, and the fact that nate got told off at the end of that interaction... uh. it shows a lot about the archibald family unit in general and just. how nate is sort of treated as ... i don’t have the right word, but my brain is like “second class citizen”... which is absolutely NOT the right concept for nate but like. he is treated like he is Less a part of the family than his parents are....... RIGHT until one of them (or both of them!) fuck up in a big way and it’s down to nate to fix their mess. i haven’t read “adult children of emotionally immature parents” but from whatever i’ve heard about it, i think nate could do with reading it. or not. maybe it’d just make him sadder.
and fuck - nate’s whole talk with his dad and his dad telling nate that he doesn’t know how he can go on, etc etc... idk what to say or where to draw the line but i have really complicated howard & nate feelings. i really truly think anne was the worse parent (not like it’s a competition of course) and i sometimes seriously wonder if maybe howard archibald had a more supportive life partner, maybe he wouldn’t have ended up being ~like that~ to nate (doesn’t justify anything of course). anyway nate’s sitting by the hospital bed and his dad is denying his suicide attempt at first and nate’s just like, no, stop. this is also making me think now of nate sitting by serena’s hospital bed after tripp, and nate possibly sitting by blair’s hospital bed some point pre-series (eating disorders are serious and i really do think, esp with eleanor being eleanor, that it must’ve gotten pretty bad for blair before she got help - which. sorry. i know, it’s sad but i’m just putting together pre-existing implications.) all i’m saying is some point in the future i wouldn’t be surprised if nate’s just. uncomfortable in hospitals and unable to piece together why. oh yikes i just remembered blair’s miscarriage. at which point do hospitals become overly suffocating for natie, remind him of his own helplessness, etc... because i really think they would. anyway.
anne archibald chills me because she is such an accurate representation of a very specific kind of mother and. i hate it for nate obviously but i struggle to remember a time i’ve seen a tv mom who i can 100% relate to so hard. as in. fuck. worded that wrong. whose SON i can relate to so hard. ouch. this may be a moot point because i don’t watch much tv, but honestly anne & nate is just. a Lot. in a way that is significant to Me, specifically. this is part of my pet peeve (not enough to fight with anybody don’t worry) when people make edits about mothers & daughters, as if what was happening between nate & anne, somehow didn’t have the same complications - i honestly think there’s some solid eleanor & blair/ anne & nate parallels to be drawn. and we’ve been over this somewhere else, but lily & serena / rufus & dan / rufus & jenny definitely have a lot of the same specific issues (parent projecting on child, etc.) again - everyone engages w the show differently, im ready to admit that like... maybe 65% of my problems with the ‘mothers & daughters’ reading probably stem from gender dysphoria, lol. but whatever.
i have feelings about dan & alison, too... i really do think dan was closer to his mom than to his dad for majority of his childhood, and this ep really cements it. anyway. i don’t have any more words and i’m tired. and i might just watch derena cotillion episode because . derena cotillion episode my beloved...
wait wait before i forget. venn diagram of humphrey family & van der bilt family & playing american football. i know this has come up before but like. here we go i;m thinking about it again. both dan and nate have been competitively thrown in the grass by a family member in the name of sports. no wonder nate chose dan over chuck in 2x06 (i would put a tone indicator but even i can’t tell if this is /gen or /j)

prim’s wildemount map scale adventures
i apologize in advance to the folk that use screen readers for this post’s reliance on image references, i will do my best to make my logic and the contents of the images comprehensible in the text portions.
this post isn’t about spoiler territory either, so i won’t go into detail about how recent developments with e111 were the initial reason i started thinking about distance on the official wildemount maps. besides, i think plenty of people will understand when i say that my digging got a lot bigger than the initial question itself lol. regardless, i’m making this post in the hopes that it might be a little helpful for anyone dealing with the same confusion.
see, i realized the funny thing about the official wildemount maps is that they don’t have any scales. as a basic explanation, scales are those funky little bars usually found on maps that illustrate what distance on the map is equivalent to what distance in ‘reality’—AKA the scale of the map.
however, for whatever reason, matt and co. did not create any for the broader wildemount maps like of the menagerie coast or the zemni fields.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[id: two images from the explorer’s guide to wildemount. the first depicts the region of the menagerie coast and related islands in the lucidian ocean. the second depicts the zemni fields, which is the central area of western wynandir and the dwendalian empire at large. map scales are absent from both images. /end id.]
this was a little baffling and unhelpful, but i’m not here to judge matt about his choice to not include scales, considering how it would give people on twitter even more ammunition to rudely question his dming with.
but then i discovered that the maps of the major cities do have scales.
(continuing past a readmore.)
Tumblr media
[id: an image from the explorer’s guide to wildemount. it is a map of the city of rexxentrum, the capital of the dwendalian empire. in the lower left corner is a compass rose illustrating the cardinal directions and a scale. /end id.]
at first, i was excited. maybe i could use the city’s map scale to approximate a scale for the larger maps. it wouldn’t be super accurate, especially as things got bigger and errors grew larger, but it would be a little better for some thought experiments than no scale at all.
but then it got weirder.
since the map of rexxentrum takes up a full page, the resolution of the image makes it difficult to read the map scale. so let me zoom in.
Tumblr media
[id: an image at a higher resolution of the lower left corner of the rexxentrum map, clearly displaying the compass rose and the scale. the scale is a thin horizontal bar separated into four equal lengths of alternating black and white, with indicators claiming that each part represents 500 miles for a total bar length of 2000 miles. /end id.]
so. maybe some of you can already tell what the problem is.
for those with slightly worse spatial understanding though, that map scale is measuring in miles. and a mile is pretty damn long.
let’s have a comparative illustration from real life to show my point. los angeles, california, is the city in the united states where the critical role cast live and work and stream us their wonderful d&d games. the los angeles area as a whole is massive. anyone who lives there understands what i’m saying and has probably wept before while in traffic (and i’m sorry).
if we use the google maps function to get a distance in miles between two points in the los angeles area...
Tumblr media
[id: a screenshot of a google maps route for traveling on foot from the olive view-ucla medical center in the far north of the los angeles area to the los angeles international airport in the southwest. the route is fairly direct as the bird flies due to the on-foot nature of the route and is labeled to be a distance of 31.1 miles. /end id.]
this is a pretty good representation of the distance from one end of los angeles to the opposite end. a modern city with a population of about 4 million people, filled to the brim with urban sprawl and suburbs.
and that distance is 31 miles, or about 50 kilometres.
that scale in the corner of the rexxentrum map? its claimed length of 2000 miles (over 3200 km) measures less than a seventh of the apparent width of rexxentrum. according to the scale, you would have to travel a distance of over 14,000 miles (over 22,500 km) to get from one end of the city to the other.
simply put, that scale at face value is nonsense lol.
Tumblr media
[id: a screenshot of discord messages with no identifying account attached. the messages begin with, in all caps, “EXCEPT THE SCALE FOR REXXENTRUM MAKES NO SENSE” (new line) “WHAT IS THIS MATT MERCER?????” an image of the lower left corner of the rexxentrum map follows. below that is the final visible message which reads, in all caps, “DO YOU KNOW HOW BIG A MILE IS SIR. DO YOU KNOW HOW FAR TWO THOUSAND MILES IS SIR.” /end id.]
so. maybe you are wondering if matt, huge nerd that he is, is making some oblique historical reference to a previous measurement of a “mile” that is way shorter than the modern standard mile. that was the first possible explanation to occur to me! unfortunately, based on the wikipedia article on the mile throughout history, there is no prior known definition of a “mile” short enough to make this scale make any sense.
so maybe the explanation is a unit error. maybe it’s meant to be a smaller unit of length, like a metre or a foot.
i spent a bit of time trying to guess which unit it might be by comparing details of the map to each other, since there are detailed individual buildings and roadways illustrated. it quickly became obvious, though, that the details were more for artistry and not to a reliable scale.
so it was time to dive into the transcripts.
i looked for a point where matt not only described the length of time it took for the mighty nein to travel from point A to point B within rexxentrum, but a point A and a point B that i could locate with confidence on the map. i found a scenario that fit the bill in e86, “the cathedral,” when the party raced from the cobalt soul branch in rexxentrum to the chantry of the dawn.
MATT: [...] And you've stepped out from the Rexxentrum Archive of the Cobalt Soul into the wet, slick cobblestone streets of the city, heading eastward towards the base of the Shimmer Ward, where it is believed this cathedral, known as the Chantry of the Dawn, stands.
this bit (beginning 13:39) is the first clue in matt’s narration to locating the endpoints on the map. the chantry of the dawn is located near the base, suggesting the immediate south, of the shimmer ward, and is in an eastward direction from the cobalt soul. this is consistent with the relevant textual descriptions in the explorer’s guide to wildemount: the rexxentrum branch of the cobalt soul is located within the court of colors on the west side of the city, while the chantry of the dawn is near the southern wall of the shimmer ward.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[id: two images of the rexxentrum map. the first is composed of the center and western area of the city, displaying the labeled wards of the tangles and the shimmer ward along with individual points labeled “R7,” “R6,” “R3,” “R1,” and “R2″ from west-most to east-most. at the bottom is the map scale, added for reference, that measures about a fifth of the entire image.
the second image is the legend of the map, which defines a few of the illustrated details and clarifies the R-series labels. truncated to relevance: R7 is the court of colors, R6 is the vigil’s circle, R3 is the academy grounds, R1 is castle ungebroch, and R2 is the candles. /end id.]
as the party made their way to the chantry, matt revealed a few more notable details on where precisely they’re traveling through (17:18).
MATT: [...] Your [Caleb’s] eyes train on the rising walkways and towers of the Soltryce Academy that are peeking over the walls of the Shimmer Ward that you can just make out on the horizon as you pass by a series of buildings where the roofs are a bit lower than the other ones you've been rushing by. You can see pale yellow walls that surround the Shimmer Ward of the capital.
You begin to approach the exterior of the Vigil’s Circle, which is a region between where you are and your destination, as noted by the network of ring-like streets that denote the circular marketplace, some varied shops, and industries that normally fill this area, as well as the mini-fortress of gray rock known as the Tower of Writ.
the view of the soltryce academy is consistent with an approach from the western side of the city, since the academy is located along the inner side of the shimmer ward’s northwest wall. the placement of the vigil’s circle in between the cobalt soul and the chantry is also consistent with their depictions on the map, as the vigil’s circle is both labeled and illustrated through a pattern of circular roads with an apparent depiction of the tower of writ in the center.
anyway, the mighty nein had traveled a little ways into the outskirts of the vigil’s circle from the west when they were abruptly stalled by a giant purple xhorhasian worm coming out of the ground.
at that moment in time is when liam gets a travel time from their current location to the chantry (21:26).
LIAM: Caduceus just asked how far we are from the chantry. Would I know that?
MATT: You would know you're probably about, I'd say, depending on— with it being pretty empty, maybe seven minutes.
this brings me to getting a precise location on the chantry of the dawn. both the explorer’s guide to wildemount and matt’s narration only describe the chantry as located within the tangles and near the southern wall of the shimmer ward. that’s a wide potential area to be seven minutes from.
there’s a pretty helpful pattern in the map details, though. most landmark buildings are visible—the soltryce academy campus is clearly delineated, as well as the colorful tower rooftops of the candles and, as previously noted, the top of the tower of writ. castle ungebroch stands massive in the center of the shimmer ward illustration.
so if the chantry of the dawn is both a huge structure and a significant landmark, that should merit a visible illustration of it on the map.
Tumblr media
[id: the image of the western and central area of rexxentrum plus map scale appended to the bottom, edited to include my personal labels. R7 is encircled in red with the label “cobalt soul,” R6 and the visible circular road complex is encircled in blue with the label “vigil’s circle,” and a large rectangular rooftop by the southwest corner of the shimmer ward is encircled in red with the label “chantry to [sic] the dawn.” /end id.]
the position of this large building fits the details of the narration and its description in the explorer’s guide—it’s near the southern wall of the shimmer ward, it is eastward of the cobalt soul, and streets of the vigil’s circle lie on the direct path from the court of colors to this building.
so there’s the approximate location of the chantry of the dawn. we also know the approximate location of the mighty nein on this map.
Tumblr media
[id: an image, almost identical to the last, of the marked-up western and central area of the rexxentrum map plus map scale, but with a further addition of an orange star in the northwest corner of the vigil’s circle labeled “mighty 9.” /end id.]
since they had entered the outskirts of the vigil’s circle from the direction of the cobalt soul, they would be within its northwest area by the time they were interrupted via purple worm shortly after.
two approximate locations with a travel time in between means that now i could estimate a distance in length. so i took a look at the d&d official rules for movement speed:
a fast pace is about 400 feet per minute,
a normal pace is about 300 feet per minute.
for campaign 2, matt as a dm tends to follow the official rules. so taking into account how the urgency of the situation had the party moving quickly, along with the emptiness of the streets eliminating the variable of a slowed pace through crowds, the mighty nein are likely traveling between 300 and 400 feet per minute to get to the chantry.
with matt’s provided estimate of 7 minutes, that means the on-foot distance from the party’s current position to the chantry is somewhere between 2100 to 2800 feet.
Tumblr media
[id: a zoomed-in image of the marked-up western and central rexxentrum map, focused on the vigil’s circle and the chantry of the dawn. imposed beside the orange star representing the mighty nein’s location and the chantry is the map scale edited to remove the ‘miles’ indicator. its position allows a viewer to measure the distance between the mighty nein and the chantry to about “1500,″ or three-fourths of the total length of the scale. /end id.]
since the scale there measures distance as the bird flies, comparing it to the probable distance the mighty nein had to travel needs to account for the twists and turns of the streets.
with that in mind, though: an as-the-bird-flies distance of around 1500 feet sounds like a pretty good approximation of the estimated on-foot distance of 2100 to 2800 feet!
so with that, it’s probably safe to guess the map scale meant to claim feet instead of miles as its unit of length.
so far i haven’t puzzled out how i might translate this into a makeshift scale for the larger maps, since none of the cities like rexxentrum are clearly illustrated on them. but if anyone was very confused about the unit of length for the city maps’ scales, i think i’ve reached a reliable conclusion that it should be feet.
hopefully some of you find this helpful!

☕️ It seems like so many shows fumble the ball, but I'd love to hear about a portrayal of Scottish history in period drama that you thought did a good job?
Thank you for asking! I don’t watch that many tbh and so far I’ve never really found one that was really good. I said the other day that Outlander probably can’t be said to be all bad- but I really haven’t watched it, it’s more that it doesn’t at first sight look completely unrecognisable as the eighteenth century (also the soundtrack is dope).
There is also actually very little content about medieval and early modern Scotland to go on. We don’t even have that many televised documentaries to watch (I may be remembering incorrectly but I think it’s something like two in the last twenty years- one of which was appalling).
Which leaves by process of elimination, ‘Outlaw King’. The plot is not hugely accurate, there wasn’t enough Gaelic in it, and the whole depiction of Edward II was... not that good (I mean it wasn’t as bad as Braveheart but that’s such a low bar). The accents were a bit dodgy. There were also some annoying plotholes and in general it would probably have been much better as a tv series. On the other hand it was somewhat recognisable as fictional representation of fourteenth century Scotland, there wasn’t quite so much silly costuming and nor was the political situation reduced to ‘The Clans Are Fighting’. The Comyns got a bad rap but that’s about par for the course in popular Scottish history.
It was also a genuinely beautifully shot film and actually shot in Scotland for once- and some of the CGI was actually worth it for once, even if not 100% accurate (Stirling Castle, god what a great moment- and it even felt suitably dreich for Stirling. And Berwick was interesting too). One of the things too many people don’t have an appreciation for when it comes to Scotland is the variety of its landscape and the cultural and regional differences.
Characters who cracked jokes were actually quite funny and not just drunk stereotypes! And attention to detail was good (if sometimes a bit gross- James Douglas’ “Farmers’ Hanky” for example).
I think there was only one made-up character? I’m not sure I didn’t count- but it was a kid who served to drive home an emotional point about war so I suppose I’ll let it slide, even if Drew is not at all a believable name.
The obligatory sex scene could have been much worse. Also if there has to be a romantic plot at least the two leads felt like they had some chemistry.
I felt what really sold it for me was that if you watch carefully there are little asides and hints towards characters who don’t have important roles in the movie, but whose own interesting careers can be followed in the historical record. I think that is important because what’s often forgotten about the Wars of Independence is that it was so much bigger than one or two men, it’s not Bruce and Wallace alone against the world. Hundreds of people had their own complex reactions to the conflict and even though the film obviously didn’t have time to show all that on screen, it really gave a nod to some of these characters that showed that the creators had at least tried to build the world (even if some other characters were less well-researched).
From a general medieval point of view it’s not terrible either actually- at least the costumes are more colourful and the religious bits are not all one sided. The sheer level of violence is A Lot to take in, but tbh it can’t really be called gratuitous given how bloody the year 1306-7 was. But no gratuitous sexual violence on screen- even if some is implied.
I would say it was a half-decent historical film, with its fair share of inaccuracies. It’s no Lion in Winter in terms of Pure Class either, but it can still be an enjoyable film for someone who loves studying mediaeval Scotland to watch- and it’s even enjoyable to pick inaccuracies out! So often with Scotland there’s not even much point picking out the inaccuracies, because it’s all so inaccurate it’s practically fantasy. It’s a bit of a luxury with Outlaw King to actually be able to point out where it’s inaccurate for once, rather than just making incoherent whining noises.
Also if someone knew nothing about Scottish history, it does not have very many hugely misleading stereotypes that would hinder them in finding out anything more (except maybe the portrayal of Edward II).
And I’m not sure it would be everyone’s cup of tea but (aside from a few rather sickening scenes that I will only watch once, even though I know the history) I sort of enjoyed the film. I had issues with a lot of it but I can admit that I genuinely adored the colours, the dry humour, the tiny details and the attention to landscape, buildings, and weather.
Sorry I ranted a bit, I just have a complex emotional relationship to this film and that’s a new experience for me when it comes to Scottish historical media! I do think, to answer your question in short, it did a reasonably OK job, not sure about plain ‘good’. I just reacted to it with such relief my judgement may be clouded.
Thank you so much for asking!
Edit: Oh I forgot- funny thing is that Shakespeare’s Macbeth, in itself, isn’t that terrible either. The plot’s all wrong, as are the character’s title, but (perhaps because it was written in the sixteenth century) the usual stereotypes are not present in the script and the people in the play are about as human as in any other Shakespeare tragedy. The problem comes more with how most people decide to stage Macbeth rather than the play itself. The same could be said of Douglas’ scenes in Henry IV Part 1 (honestly what were the Hollow Crown thinking with that costuming?). So it’s not a period drama per se but when on screen the reason Macbeth adaptations are bad (in terms of portrayal of Scottish history) is because of the preconceived notions of the modern directors and not because of Shakespeare. But if I talk about Shakespeare too much I’d have to bring up historical novels which can sometimes do a better job too.

[Change (A Connor x Reader story based on Detroit: Become Human)]
Chapter Fifteen
Epilogue: Their Future Together
xX0Xx NOV 15, 2038 PM 02:45:34
It had been four days since the successful android revolution.
After the revolution and when Connor had reunited with the Andersons, Y/n had offered for Connor to stay with her and Hank since he had nowhere else to go. Hank was a bit hesitant to have what is basically his daughter's boyfriend staying over but he, nevertheless, agreed.
It was a little awkward, to say the least.
-
"Y/N! What the hell is burning out there?!" Hank comes out of his room and rushed to the kitchen and saw Connor holding a frying pan and something black inside.
Smoke came out of whatever Connor was making and Hank saw Y/n by the window trying to air the some out of the kitchen, she was coughing and Connor had a guilty look on his face. Connor turned to Hank's direction and he looked even more sorry when he saw the older man.
"Sorry, Hank. I was trying to make something for you two." Connor looked at the frying pan and Hank grimaced.
"Jesus... Now we know what you're not good at."
They decided to not let Connor cook unless supervised by either of them
-
"This isn't a very accurate representation of Alexander Hamilton's life. In fact, the battle between Burr and Hamilton didn't-"
"Shh..." Y/n placed her hand softly on Connor's mouth and he blinked at her. "It's a musical, they sound good and it's dramatic... just enjoy it."
Connor didn't fully understand why Y/n decided to watch the Hamilton Musical at 10 PM but since she said it was one of her favorite things so he wanted to see why she liked it so much. He stared at the colorfully dressed stage actors and listened to Aaron Burr sing The World Was Wide Enough.
"They do sound good..." he spoke and Y/n nodded.
"Right?" she smiled and he did as well.
-
The next morning, Hank woke up earlier than he had expected. He walked out of the room to get started on their breakfast but when he walked to the Livingroom he saw Connor sitting absolutely still on the couch. He stared at him for a few seconds and since he wasn't moving, Hank went closer to question him.
"Connor, what the hell are you doing just sitting still all creepy and shit like that?"
"Good morning, Hank." he greeted, slightly turning his head towards the older man's direction. "I can't move."
"Why the hell can't you-?"
Hank got closer to the couch and saw that his daughter's head was on Connor's lap. She was peacefully sleeping with a blanket over her body and Hank understood why Connor wouldn't move. It somewhat ticked him off but Hank decided that it was too early for him to be annoyed.
"Just- whatever... Just make sure she wakes up soon."
Connor blinked at Hank as he entered the kitchen, seeing as the older man didn't say anything else, he turned his attention to the sleeping woman on his lap and went back to playing with Y/n's hair, he continued to stay perfectly still for her comfort until Hank spoke up again.
"Oh, when she wakes up, turn on the TV. We're watching the Detroit Gears game I missed and I'll teach you a thing or two about sport."
Connor looked back at Hank whose back was turned and felt grateful that Hank also wanted to get closer to him.
-
Y/n and Hank weren't used to living with other people aside from them so having Connor now stay with them was something new. They didn't have a guest room or any other area people could stay in so, for the duration of his stay, Connor had to make do with the couch in the living room.
He didn't mind, though. Even if he was a living being and he now had free will, he didn't need as many things as humans do so he didn't mind staying in the living room until things were more sorted out.
Connor enjoyed having more time with both Y/n and Hank since he and Hank would watch reruns of Detroit Gears games on TV and would even have friendly banters about which players are the best. It was fun spending time with the older man but he especially liked the moments with Y/n.
Although they haven't had a serious conversation about their relationship or what their label was, something he read people who are interested in each other would do at the early stages of relationships, they would often spend time just talking to each other.
Or in this case, Connor asking Y/n questions about all the things she liked and disliked and doing the things she liked.
Connor knew that he was still new to romantic emotions and what they really are so, he didn't want to mess anything up when it comes to his relationship with Y/n. Thankfully, she gave him time and he did his best to discover and learn about his emotions.
He would find time to read about articles or studies that would help him in his growing relationship with Y/n and he found that knowing the little things about one's partner was something important. He wanted to know everything about her so whenever they had the time that's what they'd do.
Y/n didn't mind all the questions, she enjoyed the fact that Connor wanted to learn so much about her and, even though she wanted to talk about their relationship and what exactly it is, she decided to let him discover the flow of his own emotions before diving deeper.
When he's ready, she'll be there for him.
Now for the outside world, things were starting to move.
All of the humans had evacuated from Detroit but after the peaceful ending of the revolution, humans who wished to come back were allowed to. There were some who did but most were hesitant to come back, those who did come back were welcomed by the androids.
The androids took temporary lodgings at places that weren't owned or had been abandoned and Markus specifically told them to not take what was owned by humans, there were a lot of open spaces for androids to stay at but most still didn't know what to do with their newfound freedom.
The Senate has yet to make a formal statement about what they would do with the android situation but, seeing as public opinion was moved due to the peaceful revolution, there have been speculations that they were leaning into having a formal meeting with Markus and his select council to discuss the androids side of things.
Connor had been invited to be a part of the council and although he was a bit nervous with being given a role in building their life and society he felt secured to know that Y/n was behind him.
Today was the first time they were going to formally meet after the revolution and he was given the address of 8941 Lafayette Avenue. Markus told Connor to invite Y/n along and although he wondered why, seeing as they were an all android council, he didn't question him.
"Woah, this place looks really nice."
When they arrived at the address they saw a beautiful two-story house surrounded by greenery, Connor saw Y/n look around the area and he smiled at her.
"It does look very nice."
"So you mean to tell me that Markus lives here?" She raised a brow at him and he nodded.
"Yeah, he said this was his home address."
"Huh... Markus has done good for himself."
The two of them walked to the front door and rang the doorbell.
"Please state your name and business." The security system spoke.
"My name is Connor, this is Y/n. We're here for the meeting."
"Please wait while I inform Markus of your arrival."
The two waited outside the door and Connor saw Y/n look at him.
"You know, I still don't understand why I'm invited here. Isn't this supposed to be an all android council?"
"Markus said that you can come if you wanted to, I didn't ask but there must have been a reason."
"Well, I guess I'm the one asking then."
As they talked, the door automatically opens and the alarm system spoke again.
"Alarm deactivated. welcome and enjoy your stay."
The two entered the house and saw a very artistic layout, there were multiple paintings and decorations just at the entrance and the stairs, along with some walls, had a colorful pattern to it. The design was classical and yet colorful at the same time.
"Welcome, I'm glad you two can make it."
Markus walked out of what they would guess as the living room and gave them both a friendly smile.
"I believe this is our first time actually formally meeting. Y/n Anderson, nice to meet you." She greeted Markus and offered him a handshake which the man responded to.
"Markus. I have to thank you, you really helped my friends back then."
"It was the least I could do."
"Come in, the others haven't arrived yet but they're on their way."
Markus led them to the living room which was much more decorated than the previous one, there were different kinds of artwork, books, and even a large giraffe in one corner of the room. Y/n's interest piqued at the many things but she still had a question to ask.
"Excuse me, Markus? I just wanted to ask, why am I here exactly? I doubt I'd be much help in your android council."
"Ah, actually..." Markus gave her a smile and looked towards the door at the far right of the room before gesturing for them to sit. "When I saw you with Connor back at Jericho I saw a connection between the two of you... I knew there was something between the both of you."
Y/n and Connor sat down before looking at each other and both gave each a smile, Markus smiled at the two of them before continuing.
"So, there's actually someone I wanted you to meet. I was hoping you two would be friends."
Y/n raised an eyebrow at Markus and gave Connor a look but he also had no clue as to what Markus was talking about.
Soon enough, the door that Markus had looked at opened and a woman of average height with short brown hair and brown eyes came out. She was wearing a very colorful and yet artistic outfit and there was blue paint on her cheeks, she notices the three of them and smiles brightly.
"Oh! Sorry for the wait, I was cleaning up inside."
Markus stood up and walked over to the woman, he places his hand on her check and proceeds to wipe the paint away. Y/n and Connor could see the woman's expression turn into embarrassment but there was a smile on her face.
"It's fine, we were only just talking anyway. Here, I wanted to introduce you."
Markus led the woman and they both walked back to the couches whereas Y/n and Connor stood up to greet her.
"Rosa, these are Connor and Y/n. Connor, Y/n, this Rosa. She's my lover." Markus stated proudly and Rosa's expression turned bashful.
"Rosa Manfred, it's a pleasure to meet you." Rosa shyly introduces her self and puts her hand out to shake hands with Y/n and she did.
"Rosa Manfred? Daughter of the famous Carl Manfred?"
"Proudly so." she smiled brightly at the mention of her father and Y/n stared in wonder.
"I'm Y/n Anderson, it's nice to meet you..."
"Anderson?.. Are you... human?"
"Yeah, I am."
Rosa looked at her in shock but then it turns into a big smile.
"Ah! Now I understand why Markus wanted me to meet you, I didn't think I'd meet another human-android couple so soon."
It was Y/n's turn to look bashful now, she glanced at Connor who gave her a somewhat shy smile and she couldn't help the way her heart race at that.
"Yeah... I wasn't expecting the man of the revolution to be dating a human either."
"Well, it's a long story... I'd be happy to tell you, though!"
"Markus, you've got guests. They are North, Simon, and Josh." the alarm system spoke.
"Let them in and tell them to go to the living room."
After the alarm informed Markus of the other guests Y/n smiled at Rosa.
"I'd be happy to hear it, I'm sure it's one hell of a story since it involves our revolutionary leader here."
Rosa giggled and Markus smiled at them.
Connor hadn't been expecting Markus to be with a human woman but he now understood why, among others, Markus was okay when he saw Y/n. He also understood now why he had given Connor the advice to see Y/n before he infiltrated CyberLife. It must have been hard for him not to talk to his human lover during the revolution.
"Well, how about some snacks while we chat? We can go talk in the studio while they do their adult things." Rosa winked at Y/n and the other woman chuckled.
As they talked, the three other visitors came in and both Rosa and Markus gave North, Simon, and Josh a smile.
"Good afternoon, everyone." Simon greeted the four people in the room.
"It's nice to see you three again!"
Y/n and Connor saw Rosa smile brightly at the three as she walks over to greet them. She offers them a hand to which Simon takes first.
"We haven't met properly since the last time you were here everything was a rush but I'm Rosa, it's nice to meet you."
"It's nice to meet you, Rosa. I'm Simon, Markus is really fond of you." Simon smiled and Josh quips.
"I'm Josh. Trust us, you're all he talks about."
Rosa looks North who was just observing the three of them and she gives her a warm smile. Y/n knew, from her short interaction with her in Jericho, that she was the one who had the most dislike for humans. Still, Y/n was interested to see how she'd react to Markus' bubbly and welcoming human lover.
"Is everything okay?" Rosa's voice was laced with worry and North looked taken aback.
"Uh, yeah, I'm fine." she answered awkwardly. "North."
"Nice you meet you, North."
Y/n saw that Simon and Josh noticed her presence and the two politely smiled at her and Connor.
"It's also nice to see you both. I'm glad you're alright after what happened, Miss?.." Simon spoke and Y/n smiled at him.
"Oh, it's Y/n."
"Thanks for your help back then, Y/n." Josh smiled and Y/n felt glad she had helped them.
"Alright! Since everyone is here I'm sure you all have a lot of things to talk about. While you do that, me and Y/n here will take our leave. We'll be heading to the kitchen. Do you all need anything?"
"No, we're okay." Markus smiled at Rosa who smiled back.
"Well, Y/n? Shall we?" Rosa directed her smile to Y/n who smiled.
"Sure." she then smiles at Connor. "Good luck."
Connor smiled back as the two women walked to the kitchen area.
"Why don't you all have a seat, we've got a lot of things to discuss." Markus guides them to the dining table and they all sat to discuss their next plans.
-------
When Y/n entered the kitchen with Rosa she admired the design and simplicity of it, she then saw Rosa reach for a black cup with a smiley on it and she noticed that Rosa's smile turned into a sad one. That's when she remembered the news that Carl Manfred had died not too long back.
"I... I heard about your father, I'm very sorry for your loss."
"Thank you... It's been hard but Markus and I manage. He was also really close to my father."
"Have you and Markus been together long?"
Y/n saw Rosa bite her lip to hide her smile and Y/n couldn't help but smile at the woman who was shy about her relationship but, at the same time, radiated happiness because of it.
"Well... We've known each other for a long time but nothing really happened until the revolution."
"Now that is something I'd love to hear."
Y/n and Rosa ended up talking in the kitchen instead of the art studio and the two enjoyed their time together. Rosa excitedly told her about her relationship with Markus and how it had started and Y/n was shocked at how horrible the things the couple went through.
"I had thought it was over and I just stayed at home since my father died. So imagine my shock when I heard Markus play the piano one night while and I actually see him... Thinking back, it was incredibly romantic."
Rosa places both of her hands on her cheeks in embarrassment and Y/n chuckled at the woman. She could tell that Rosa hadn't had anyone to talk to about her relationship with Markus so Y/n was more than happy to listen.
"I'm glad I stayed and didn't evacuate. I wanted to be the first one to congratulate Markus and welcome him home." Rosa smiled lovingly at the memory. "How about you? I'm curious about you and Connor."
It was Y/n's turn to feel slightly embarrassed.
She wasn't ashamed about her relationship with Connor but, although they were both aware that they were romantically involved, they still hadn't discussed their relationship and lacked a title for it.
"Well... We're doing okay? Things happened so fast and since Connor's still testing the waters of his emotions, I figured that we'd wait for a bit before we talk about that."
"Well, I'm sure you'll both be able to sort things out." Rosa smiled reassuringly and Y/n was grateful to have someone like her to talk to.
"I'm not really good with relationships... I've never been in one, actually."
"Really? Like... never?"
"Yeah, never. That bad?"
"No, no. I just wasn't expecting it. You're really pretty and I can tell you're smart too, it's impossible for someone like you to have not been in a relationship." Rosa stared at her in wonder and Y/n could hear the sincerity.
"Aw, thanks." She chuckled. "Well, things really didn't go as planned and even though I did have some people who showed interest, I was more focused on my family and career to even care. I guess that's what makes me a little worried about my relationship with Connor.
"He's trying to hard to understand "us" while I'm here, not understanding it either. I don't want to do something wrong in the relationship and I really don't want to mess things up. I want to talk to him about it when he's ready to but I'm kind of scared that I might not do things right."
Y/n sighed and she felt Rosa place a hand on her back in a comforting way.
"I get you, and honestly? There's no right way of doing things when it comes to relationships. Every person and every relationship is different. Markus and I love each other but I know, down the line, there will definitely be things that we'd fight or argue about.
"There will always be a moment in your relationship where you'd feel scared or anxious about things but, since there are two people in a relationship, all you have to do is talk and work through it. I know it's scary, and even more so because we're in love with androids. We're bound to get hatred for that but so long as you both hold on to each other and work things out, everything will be okay."
Y/n felt relief course through her as Rosa spoke and she felt extremely glad that she decided to go with Connor today. If she hadn't, she was still bound to meet Rosa but now that she did she just wished it happened sooner.
"Are you scared of it? The backlash? You're a human dating the most influential android out there."
"A part of me is... but, a bigger part is proud that I get to stand by Markus' side and show that humans and androids can live together and even love each other."
Rosa smiled widely at Y/n and proceeds to pour drinks to the cups she had set out, along with preparing light snacks for them to each while they talked. She offered one cup to Y/n who thanked her as she did.
"So, how did you two meet?"
"Ah... Well, we met because we were assigned to investigate deviants."
As Y/n answered, Rosa was already taking a sip from her cup, and, after hearing what Y/n said, she choked on her drink, and Y/n proceeds to pat her back.
"Oh my God, are you okay?"
"Yes!.. Yes, I'm fine... Uh, what did you say your job was?.." Rosa coughed and Y/n looked away, sheepishly.
"I'm a detective down at the DPD... Connor's... Well, also a detective."
"Oh, wow. Uh, I did not expect that."
"Did I not mention that before?" Y/n chuckled awkwardly.
"It's not that it's bad, don't get me wrong, but... aren't the police and army ordered to... well..." she didn't continue what she was saying and Y/n could see that she didn't like remembering the events and she wouldn't blame her after all, Markus was shot by a cop.
"Yeah... That was the reason why Connor and I worked together, we were assigned to investigate deviants but along the line... Things changed, perspective wise too."
"I'm glad..." she smiled warmly at Y/n. "I mean, I'm glad that there are officers like you... Officers who see androids as people too... I always thought that not all officers were as bad as the media made them out to be but having met you makes it much more real."
Y/n smiled back at Rosa and she could feel the ease that came with her words. She didn't think she'd meet anyone like Rosa, who was open to androids like she was and having met someone like her made Y/n hoped that they'd be good friends in the future.
"So tell me, how was it like working with Connor and solving crime? It must have been so cool!"
Y/n chuckled at Rosa's child-like excitement. "Oh man, where do I even begin."
They spent the rest of the time talking and laughing about the stories they exchanged that ranged from their relationships to their childhood and random stories they remembered.
It had been a long time since Y/n had a relaxing conversation with someone who wasn't Elizabeth and she was starting to really like Rosa. She enjoyed just laughing at such mindless things that it felt blissful to have another female to talk to.
"You two seem to be having fun."
When they looked back. they saw Markus leaning on the doorway. They both got down the counters since they chose to sit on it as they talked and the two smiled at the said man.
"Y/n's really fun to talk to!" Rosa smiled and Y/n returned the gesture.
"Yeah, I haven't had a nice chat in a long time."
"Well, we're done for today. I'm sure Y/n and Connor still have things to do."
Y/n tilted her head and saw that Connor was already looking at her, she gave him a smile and he returned it.
"Oh wow, I didn't notice it was already night."
Y/n checked her watch and saw that it was already 7 PM. "Oh yeah, you're right. I guess we'll get out of your hair now."
Y/n walked out to the living room with Rosa and Markus and saw that everyone was just about ready to leave.
"Thank you for coming today, we can have another meeting as soon as the President and her select senate make contact. For now, let's keep working with what we have."
They all exchanged goodbyes and Y/n took a final look toward Rosa and Markus, who were now holding hands as
Rosa waved at them from the front door.
"Do you think we can meet again some time, Rosa?"
"I'd definitely love that."
Y/n and Rosa smiled to each other before Y/n and Connor took their leave.
"Should I call for a taxi now?" Connor asked and Y/n looked at him for a moment before replying,
"Why don't we take a walk for a bit?"
"Okay?.."
During the meeting, Connor could hear Y/n's laughter from the kitchen where she talked with Rosa. He hadn't had many chances to make her laugh but he did like the sound of it. As they walked, he wondered what he could do to make her laugh.
It was silent and the snow was not that hard, they walked next to each other at a comfortable speed but Connor's mind was on Markus and Rosa. Seeing them be physically comfortable with each other to the point where they'd hold hands in public, regardless of their origins, was something Connor wondered what the feeling would be like.
His eyes glanced toward Y/n and down to her swaying hand and he wanted to hold hands with her too, he just didn't know how to initiate it. Connor had seen Markus just take Rosa's hand in his but he didn't know if Y/n would be okay with it.
They hadn't discussed their relationship and where they stand or what their boundaries were so he didn't want to do something that would make her uneasy, that was the last thing he wanted.
"Something on your mind?"
He saw Y/n look at him and he felt grateful that she was always mindful of him.
"Can I ask you a question, Y/n?"
"Of course."
"What would you say our relationship was?"
Y/n stopped walking, she looked at him and he did the same.
"Are you... sure you want to talk about this? I mean, are you ready?"
"I don't know... but... after seeing Markus and Rosa... I..."
Connor paused, he didn't know what to say and how to say it but Y/n was patiently waiting for him to get his thoughts straight. That was another thing he was grateful for, she was patient with him.
When he finally finds his train of thought, he decided to just go with whatever words would come out of him and say it as sincerely as he can.
"I... want to be able to do that too, hold your hand."
Y/n felt her heartbeat speed up, she had been expecting Connor to bring up their relationship sometime soon but she didn't expect him to say that he wanted to hold her hand. It was adorable and she couldn't help but swoon.
"Well... You can do that."
She offered one of her hands and Connor carefully held it. It was warm and he felt his heartbeat quicken at the sensation, he also felt her heartbeat do the same. He was curious about the feeling and sensation that it brought him that he didn't realize he was just silently staring at Y/n's hand.
"Connor?.." Y/n called out and Connor's attention shifted. "You asked me about us?.. About our relationship?.."
He looked at her and admired how the snow fell on her. Again, she was patiently waiting for him to speak and he didn't want to delay it further,
"We're... very close... You also didn't deny when Rosa said we were a couple... Are we a couple?"
"Well... That would depend on you, Connor... To be a couple, we'd need to have a mutual understanding and agreement that we'd only see each other. Of course, the most important thing is if we both have the same feelings-"
"I do have feelings for you." he answered quickly and Y/n stopped talking. She blinked at him and she let out a chuckle.
"And I have feelings for you too."
"Then are we couple?" He asked and Y/n felt her heart swell.
"Would you like us to be?.."
Connor stared at Y/n and from all the articles and studies he read, being a couple would mean that you would be exclusively seeing each other. He liked the thought and he also liked that Y/n would be seeing him and only him. Still, Connor had fears.
He was afraid that since he wasn't built to be someone who knows about romance and romantic relationships, he would mess up and make Y/n unhappy.
"Hey, hey. You're doing that thing you do when you think too much."
Connor felt Y/n gently place her hand on his face and he leaned at the touch.
"I just don't want to mess anything up." Connor squeezed her hand. "I feel very strongly for you, Y/n. I care about you very much and what I want the most is to make you happy. I always want to see you smile and laugh and I want you to be happy with me too.
"I want to do things right and I'm scared that I might make mistakes and that your patience would eventually run out.. I'm scared of losing you..."
Y/n saw Connor look away with a frown on his face and she couldn't help but feel the surge of emotions that went through her. She saw Connor openly tell her how he felt and it made her feel happy and amazed that he was feeling those kinds of things for her.
She smiled at him and she rubbed her thumb across his cheek in a loving and comforting manner.
"Me too... I'm scared I might mess things up too. I care about you very much and I have very strong feelings for you too. I know things like this, things that are new, are scary but, Rosa told me a while ago that there isn't really a right way of doing things in a relationship.
"We're going to be having problems along the way but I know we're strong enough to go through those things together. So, even though we're scared about things, the least we can do is take one step at a time... starting with us officially becoming a couple. You okay with that?"
"Yes... I- I'd like that."
He momentarily stares at her and Y/n tilted her head in question.
"What is it?.."
"May I kiss you?"
Y/n's eyes widened at the sudden request but smiled and gave him a nod. She took her hand off his cheek and went to hold his other hand.
With his hands, now both holding hers, Connor closed the distance and placed a kiss on her lips.
This had been their first kiss ever since they started living together and they enjoyed the feeling. They couldn't really be touchy-feely since they were both living with Hank so moments like these were something to cherish.
Connor pulled away and he stared at Y/n's fully blown eyes. She smiled at him and he felt an overwhelming feeling of affection for her.
It would take time for the both of them to openly say that they loved each other; it would take time to say it out loud since they were both still getting the hang of the emotions they were going through but they both knew what they felt for each other and they couldn't wait to see how things will change from now on.
Their future together looked bright and as Connor and Y/n continued their walk, Connor couldn't help but be excited for it.

A big thank you for everyone who read and stayed throughout the book! Thank you for all the nice comments and I'm so happy you all are here to read even though DBH is 2 years old!
If you're wondering who Rosa is, she's the MC from the Markus x reader story I wrote 2 years ago because I REALLY don't like North HAHAHHA I'm sorry but that was just way too forced so my remedy was that Carl had a daughter who's sweet and colorful and she was already connected to Markus even before he became deviant. Feel free to read that because MC here and Connor are also mentioned in that book but just like here it's in the epilogue. ANNOUNCEMENT!!!
I'm sure you all saw the choices of Connor being deviant or staying a machine in chapter 11 and you saw right! My good friend and beta reader (findart.me or in this case Miss Nemo who comments about correction in the chapters) is collabing with me with a short alternate version of if Connor chose to stay a machine. We're trying to fix the things in it so please bare with us and we hope that you get to enjoy it! Here ends Change (A Connor x Reader story based on Detroit: Become Human) : Deviant

Get to Know. | YangYang
Request: hiiiii ! i was wondering if it was possible to ask for a fluffy yangyang shows y/n around his hometown? sorry if that isn’t specific enough :( you have full creators freedom thank u so much ❤️
Author’s Note: So this is what it is, I tried my best, I swear I did. This was a concept I had never written before because usually I don’t.. write very descriptive things.. which is where things like this fall in- but I took on the challenge heheh On another note, this piece was cut in half as I haven’t been all too emotionally stable these past 3 days, so my apologies if this isn’t as good as what you hoped for. (And I know I have this excuse often, not being emotionally stable, but my condition really challenges me every single day and writing is the only thing that helps me forget about it a little, so please bear with me.)
Warnings: I THINK NONE? I guess if you’re German this might be like.. a bit weird. Mostly descriptive. There might be not-too-accurate representations, definitely contact me if you think something needs to be changed. Plus, English is my second language so there might be errors.
Word Count: 2.418 short-ish but long-ish
Genre: Fluff and literally nothing else
Hope you all enjoy, and I hope you all have a great time 💚 Stay safe, healthy, and happy xx
“You know what people say you should do if you wanna get to know your partner better?” YangYang asks you one night as you lounge on the bed together, looking at your phones, hardly speaking— waiting for the sleepy mood to come and hit you both so you could go to sleep. His voice sounds nowhere near tired, unlike you, whose eyes are barely open. “Mm I don’t know.” You mumble, even though you had not heard what the answer was to the question.
“Getting stuck in traffic or traveling together.” Answering the question for you, he turns his face towards yours to be met with your profile. Maybe only a quarter of your profile since your head was covered with the hood of your hoodie. “Neither of us has a car,” He adds brightly.
The words start to make sense only after a questionable silence. When you do, a feeling of surprise washes over you as you turn to face him as well. “What exactly do you mean?”
“Oh I don’t know,” The words leave him in a rush with a chuckle as if he is trying to laugh it off. But he is not, because he keeps speaking. “But I definitely don’t mean that we should rent a car when we could fly if you know what I mean.”
You roll your eyes and shake your head, getting under the blanket and putting your phone aside. “Just go to sleep.”
To your horror, YangYang had been serious about his quick little fact check.
In two weeks’ time, he had barged into your apartment holding two plane tickets with a smile so wide on his face. Not only that, but he had told you to clear out your schedule for the upcoming break— because he would be taking you around anywhere and everywhere he had on his mind (and truthfully, anywhere and everywhere your budgets would allow for you to visit).
The concept came with its multiple ups and downs. Ups, you would be visiting four countries in four weeks without that much strain on your wallets and would have the chance to see places you have always wanted to; downs, most of the flights being layovers of all sorts so the prices would not have a great impact to your finances. And then there was a grey area, which held the fact that two of these countries were ones YangYang had lived in before.
There was nothing wrong with visiting places he had lived in before. This would give you an incredible chance of getting closer to him— perhaps on a level you would not quite be able to reach without doing exactly what you were about to do. It would provide a crystal clear window into his life before you, something more clear than his words probably ever could be. However, the idea still made you feel nervous to some extent. Most likely because of its intimate background, you felt like the magic of it could crumble with one wrong move.
But you do not give into that feeling. Having fun is the least you could do. Not that you have much other choice, anyway. Because YangYang, with lack of a better word, is an actual toddler about this whole ordeal.
The morning of your first flight that leaves to Taiwan, he meets you at the subway station you had agreed on with an excited smile on his face. One that does not falter even though the rain is about to soak him, and even when you pull him under your umbrella as you mutter if he is asking to get sick from the first second.
You share your earphones on the long ride to the airport. Checking in comes and goes in a blink of your eyes, but you barely make your way to the gates in time after spending way too much time in the food court and the duty free shops.
The plane is gigantic and crowded, which makes sense considering YangYang had said he could hardly find seats beside one another while purchasing the tickets. You get the aisle seat and he gets the middle— which would have been perfectly fine if the middle aged man sitting in the window seat did not keep excusing himself to the lavatory every other minute. Thankfully the flight is a relatively short one and not a red-eye because if it had been you are certain both of you would have lost your minds while cuddled up to each other over the armrest.
Taiwan is fun. YangYang takes you around everywhere he could remember spending time in, which does not end up being that many since he had only been a child while he lived here. He takes you to the ‘cliché’ tourist attractions (as he had quoted) around the island such as the temples and museums and the remnants of the Dutch colonization, and to the places that his mother suggests him take you that are more on the natural side, like geysers. You get to see the beautiful beaches and the parks and the people, more often than not walking around with their pets, the beautiful campuses and the nature, people riding around in their bikes and the crowds commuting on foot. The two of you take photographs, some only of sceneries, some you take of him and he takes of you, and some he kindly asks strangers of any age to take of you as a couple.
You do not dare to tell him, but his tourist-guide-like antics of teaching you about the history and trying to figure out exactly where you will go at what time is extremely cute to you because you love it. You love that he gets so serious about where he is from and wants to share every bit of it with you.
As per your traveling habits you pick up several souvenirs and get some of your favorite photographs printed, which end up being from the Dragon and Tiger Pagodas you had taken on a foggy day— something YangYang says the both of you could play with the colors and lighting of before printing. The two of you like to edit pictures, especially together, after realizing (early on in your relationship) that neither of you are that good in photography but are interested in it, at which point you took on a challenge to do better with each other’s support.
YangYang makes you eat the local food, which is one of your favorite parts about the whole time you spend there, and he does not hesitate to make you try things that you probably would not have tried if you were traveling alone. You end up falling in love with the food and the various teas this island has to offer, only maybe not the Chodofu.
A week in Taiwan goes by really fast that by the time you have to leave, you do not realize that you had ever even been there. It all feels like a dream and a part of you feels emotional; the two of you had been so extremely happy in Taiwan that staying there for longer really would not have bothered you, if it was not for your schedules.
“We have to come back,” You tell YangYang as you lean your head on his shoulder at the gate, waiting for your overnight flight’s boarding to start. He chuckles airily at your sleep deprived voice, making your head bounce a little. “You like it here?”
“I love it here.” The answer makes his smile widen. “Great weather and great people. And great surroundings.”
“Eh, I don’t know about great weather. I’d prefer it to be dry but that’s not something we could have in these months.” Shaking your head on his shoulder, you ignore what he says. “You’re just being ungrateful,” You say matter-of-factly, but he knows you are joking. “What more can you ask for when you have this many great things? You had me too.”
He plants a kiss in your hair after a moment’s pause, and mumbles. “You’re right.”
YangYang and you had tried to organize your trip in a way it would make sense, really. The two of you had looked at flight routes to determine where the other two countries you would visit could be, but the flight routes were mostly over Russia— so unless you wanted a tour of southern Russia you would have to hold off. And although the idea of Central Asia and Russia also interested you, the flight tickets would be expensive, when they would be much cheaper from Seoul. So in the end, the route became a zigzag of countries of your shared interests before flying over to Düsseldorf, the last destination of your trip.
The two countries in the midst of your trip had been a daze, most probably they were new experiences for both of you rather than only one of you. Most days you found yourselves to be extremely exhausted from getting lost countless times and in turn walking around so much, and from the language barrier that sometimes troubled you, and just getting to know whole new cultures. Not only getting to know them, but also adapting to them in the short period that you are there.
Sometimes there were instances where one of you were feeling more spent than the other, and in those instances you hyped each other up— by persuasion of food, music, affection, or other things— and in a few instances downright jumping on whoever’s lying on the bed and bear-hugging them until the subject had no choice but to get up.
Yet, two weeks pass by quickly with the density of your packed schedule and before you know it, you land in Düsseldorf airport.
And something in YangYang changes immediately.
As you pass through immigration and buy tickets to go on public transportation he looks more relaxed and in his element, like how he had been in Taiwan, yet somehow different. He actually knew the location of your Airbnb for starters, which gives you an immediate grounding and reminds you that this is the place of the better part of his rememberable childhood and adolescence.
When he takes the keys and speaks German to the house owner like it was the most normal thing he could ever do, it awes you, because yes you had known about his life in Germany but you did not see him speak German all that much. So it is wonderful to you that he can speak so many languages fluently (with a few mix-ups in between).
His behavior changes the feel of the trip as well. The way he is so laid back makes the days in Düsseldorf feel, well, daily. As if you had been living there with him. Because YangYang knows exactly where to take you this time, not counting the tourist attractions or other wonders.
In that city he knows where he should take you for a fun session of thrift shopping, making sure to take you to his favorite places, and his favorite restaurants. He actually runs into people, which is mind blowing. You encourage him to meet up with his friends and forget about just taking you to places at some point, which makes him really happy that you would even think of that, and he does what you say.
YangYang introduces you to his friends, most of whom can speak English since he had gone to an international school before, and the feeling of inclusivity warms your heart. By getting to know his friends here you feel even closer to him after seeing his home country and now, for the lack of a better word, his hometown. You get to see the way he laughs when he is here, you get to see his emotional changes, and how his thought process changes, and how his behavior changes. Although everything changes he is still YangYang— still him who makes witty jokes, who likes laughing all around, who likes jumping his leg up and down to the rhythm of the songs, who is a people pleaser and a mood maker.
And it makes you fall for him even more, if it is even possible. Perhaps what he had said before the trip started, getting to know your partner better because of traveling, was true. And in all honesty you wanted to travel more with him; run through the crowded airports in search of wherever your gate is, buy even more small jars of Nutella from duty free shops so you could taste test them to see the variations in the flavor and decide which country’s is the ultimate winner, sleep on the uncomfortable floor with your heads on your backpacks— anything. As long as the two of you get to be this happy together.
One sunny day in Düsseldorf around a couple days before your departure, after gathering even more souvenirs for your collection and he takes you to his favorite place that served fries (which, in Düsseldorf, there were a lot of those), he stops abruptly on the street after hearing the sound of the music.
He urges you to hurry up with his hand as his eyes widen and he skips in his place a little, and you do, walking to the source of the music and stopping when he stops right behind a crowd. You both can still see the middle, where a group of people maybe your age or maybe a couple years younger, are dancing.
“Why did we stop by here?” You ask. You cannot recognize the song and you are almost sure it is not in any of YangYang’s playlists, so you are genuinely curious.
YangYang laughs with what must be longing. “This is where I used to dance,” He does not look at you, eyes fixed on the group that kept dancing on with some handwritten signs and big speakers behind them, eyeing the white square that surrounded them. The square for street performers. Dancers, singers, anybody— but there was an unwritten pact for the days of the week on what kind of performer would be taking it and who, through endless group chat conversations of local artists.
He takes your hand into his and laces your fingers together without prying his eyes away, with you looking at his ever so bright face, one that you got to see for the first time. “Where everything started for me.”
