it’s my own personal headcanon that bruno’s room used to be full of lush greenery and waterfalls but the angrier/sadder/more frustrated he got at himself and his powers, the more it started to die and once he left his room, intending never to return, everything dried up completely and turned to sand.
the shower of sand when mirabel first walks in? waterfall.
all of the walls surrounding the stairs leading to his vision cave? covered in ferns and flowers and vines and other native greenery.
i’d like to think that his room was his own personal oasis and that after the house gets rebuilt, his room returns to its former, healthy state.

Madrigal triplets besides being my faves they also share birthday 17th of October and that day here in Colombia we celebrate the ethnicity day which is so cool considering that all of the triplets even if they are siblings resemble different features and tone skins what is very Colombian if you ask me lol but is also funny that their birthday coincide with this celebration besides the tragic beginning of the thousand days war date. I don’t know but for me was cute sharing this with the Encanto fandom family 🥺🙈😇 it would be nice if we get some Q&A from Jared and beautiful fan arts from this talented fandom.

and on that note of knowing the cool sisters colors reflect the parent they’re closest with. Does this apply to warm family too?
Tumblr media
all of them wear a shade of yellow except Dolores who only has yellow accents. Whilst red is still a warm color it’s also the brightest out of them. My sad theory is that this is something to do with Dolores being known as “isabelas shadow” so in order to stand out more from the yellows of the rest of her family dolores wears red to differentiate herself maybe? Red is also a color associated with romance which we know dolores longs for! red is passionate too! it’s a color that’s hard to miss and paired with the hair bow it makes it hard to overlook Dolores! The yellow accents and cream blouse still tie her back to her family but I think she just wants to stand out more so people stop associating her with being overlooked by isabela! that’s just my little hc though I’d be interested to hear other points on this because I don’t think Jared ever answered this?

What if the Madrigals piled into a huge van and went to a mall?
Felix is the driver. He always brings along a bottle of water that Pepa always ends up drinking. He buys himself another one in the mall or begs Julieta for one. He likes to find new music to dance to or sheet music.
Alma sits beside Felix in the passenger seat. It's too hard on her knees to crawl into the back part of the van and she likes to be in a spot where she can see the whole family. She will usually meet an old friend for a meal or coffee, then shop with Julieta and Agustin when they get groceries. Everyone knows to meet them when the groceries are done to help load up the van because Julieta will send out a group text. This is the last thing they get done and they leave the city after.
Pepa sits behind Felix. She always forgets something and it's most often her water bottle, so she takes Felix's. She and Felix like to dance to Agustin's piano music if they see him playing in the mall. Felix will follow her around and carry her bags for her, even though she asks if he's sure he wants to do that. It makes him happy so she lets him. They'll help with the grocery shopping too.
Antonio sits beside Pepa and likes to bring along his stuffed jaguar because he isn't allowed to bring along any of his other animals. He has a system for who he spends time with and chooses a different person/group each time so that he can spend time with everyone. He always wants to visit the toy store and pet store, of course.
Julieta is on Antonio's other side and always brings along a large bag full of food, juice, water, and first aid supplies for the kids (and inevitably her husband).
Luisa sits behind Pepa. The far back seat is too tight for her to fit into and she wants to give the front bench to Antonio so he can sit with his mother. She likes to bring tea along for the ride and points out all of the farm animals in the fields.
Isabela sits beside Luisa. Isabela and Luisa usually end up hanging out together in the mall. They like to try on different clothes, check out the bookstore, and visit the gardening section.
Agustin's behind Julieta and beside Isabela. He almost always slams his finger in the door or hits his head getting into the van. Julieta and Agustin like to find a nice restaurant to have a meal together before they go shopping. Sometimes Agustin will play the mall piano for a little while.
Camilo sits in the far back seat behind Luisa. He's always got a prank or some other scheme planned for mall shenanigans. He usually drags Mirabel and/or Bruno into it. When he isn't planning schemes, he likes to visit the music store and Mirabel drags him to the craft store.
Mirabel sits beside Camilo and likes to bring one of her embroidery projects along for the long car ride. Camilo usually keeps distracting her with his plans so she doesn't get much done. She likes to stock up on her sewing supplies and likes the arts and craft store.
Bruno sits beside Mirabel and always has a huge coffee in his hand. Being outside of Casita is exhausting, never mind being in a huge mall. If he can get away from Camilo's plans, he likes to hang out with Dolores in the book store, music store, craft store, and pet store. He makes sure he's never alone in the mall.
Dolores sits beside Bruno and behind Agustin. It's usually the quietest corner of the van and she likes to watch outside the window as she listens to music through her headphones. If she isn't with Bruno, she likes to hang out with Luisa and Isabela.

How the Madrigals React to Getting Yelled At For No Reason
Abuela Alma: Excuse me? Who do you think you are speaking to me like that? I suggest you watch your tone.
Julieta: I understand you're upset... But please, don't shout. Can we be civil about this?
Pepa: *yells back, causing a storm*
Bruno: ....*shuts down*
Isabela: I CAN YELL TOO BITCH!! *throws cactus*
Dolores: *covering her ears* I know you're upset but please.. lower your voice!
Luisa: *about to cry* I'm sorry.. okay?? I'll do better!
Camilo: I didn't do anything! The hell??
Mirabel: *starts crying* I'm sorry..
Antonio: *sobs while animals rip the person apart*
Agustín: whoa.. okay.. *hands up in defense*
Félix: *keeps his cool* alright.. I understand you're angry, really! But this... This isn't necessary.

now and always
"Name this child," Padre Flores intoned, and paused, waiting for Félix and Pepa to respond.
It was Pepa who answered, taking a deep breath. The family had heard the baby's name before, of course, he was a month old. But never his full name, not until now, and with good reason. She and Félix had had many hushed conversations in the past month, whenever they were sure Dolores was in her room.
Dolores, proud to be named as godmother, stood beside her father, carefully holding her baby brother. Did she know? They'd done their best not to let her overhear them, unsure themselves of their final decision until recently. But her daughter heard everything.
Félix grasped her hand.
Pepa took another deep breath. "Antonio," she said. The sun was shining and it was drizzling all at once, but her voice was steady. "Antonio Bruno Espinosa Madrigal."
The church had already been quite, but the silence that followed was so loud Pepa could hear it ring.
Padre Flores almost dropped the prayer book.
Agustín nearly fell out of his seat. Julieta steadied him, a hand over her mouth.
For just a moment, Camilo was a tall, glowing green figure with a wicked grin.
Flowers sprouted out of Isabela's hair.
And Mamá....Mamá had her hand over her heart. In the brief moment that Pepa risked looking at her, her eyes were closed. Pepa looked away before she opened them.
Padre Flores coughed loudly, several times, and cleared his throat. "Right!" he said quickly. "Okay, uh, do you, Félix and Pepa Madrigal...."
-
Dolores made a point of talking to her baby brother like he could understand her and loudly calling him by his full name. Her parents assumed the former was because she was excited to have a baby sibling, and the latter was to get them all used to his name.
Bruno wept.

Mirabel's Skirt Symbols (UPDATED HC)
Since a few years have passed since the full reconstruction of Casita and continuing mend of the family's relationship, I'd like to think a now slightly older Mirabel's skirt embroidery reflects on the progress made since then.
Abuela Alma & Abuelo Pedro | Two Caterpillars (Dos Oruguitas)
Instead of a single candle representing her Abuela Alma, Mirabel's new symbol design would probably be of two caterpillars w/ love hearts. (Bonus points if the hearts represent the colors of the OG triplets.) ❤️🐛 💙🧡💚
Julieta & Agustín | Bowl w/ Bees 🥣🐝💙
For Julieta, Mirabel would probably make a small bowl w/ a tiny bee on it, and two blue hearts rising from the top. Both would represent Mirabel's parents and their love.
Pepa & Felix | Rainbow/Sleet & Umbrella ☔🌈
Mirabel's Tiá & Tio would be proudly represented by an embroidery of a rainbow jutting upwards from an orange umbrella. Sleet and rain symbols could be near the rainbow too. (She's proud of her Tiá! No matter what kind of weather she has.)
Bruno | Rat wearing green ruana/drama masks 🐀💚🎭
Bruno's embroidery would likely be of a silly rat(s) wearing a green ruana and/or drama masks. OR or - maybe just the rats wearing green ruanas w/ the hood up/bucket on their head, all really depends on what Bruno's preferred vibe is.
Isabela | Cactus w/ blue/purple flowers 🌵💠
To help represent the stronger bond with her older sisters, Mirabel likely surprised Isabela w/ an embroidered symbol of a green cactus - but with a big dark blue flower at the top, bigger purple one in the middle, and light blue one at the bottom. All three flowers proudly represent the bond between the three cool-colored sisters.
Luisa | Donkeycorn! 🦄💜
For Luisa, Mirabel's skirt symbol would now be of her sister's favorite animal: the playful Donkeycorn! I'd like to think it would be in a proud and powerful stance, representing the unconditional love and both the physical and emotional strength of her older sister.
Dolores | Red Bow/Ribbon w/ Musical Notes 🎀🎶
Maybe in the time during reconstruction, there was a moment where Dolores freely showed the community her melodic singing voice. Mirabel wanted to help remember that moment w/ her cousin's iconic red ribbon, accompanied with little music/poetry notes.
Camilo | Mischievous Chameleon w/ Plate of Arepas 🦎🧡🫓
I like to think despite being older and probably expected to act more their ages, both Mirabel and Camilo never lost their mischievous sparks in the family. Mirabel's skirt symbol for her cousin represents this w/ none other than a mischievous chameleon in front of a LARGE plate of arepas.
Antonio | Jaguar & Big/Little Toucans
For her littlest cousin and partner in crime, Mirabel made, in her eyes, one of the best designs of them all. This being a mighty jaguar face like the first symbol, but with one big toucan and little toucan atop its head (representing the brotherly-sisterly bond they have. 🧡💙
Mirabel | Accordion with a Pink butterfly
I wanted to save the best for last. For the miracle herself, I'd like to see think Mirabel would make a symbol of her talents, being an accordion w/ a symbol of a pink butterfly in the middle.

Encanto Headcanons Nobody Asked For
Hello! I am putting off writing my last essay of the semester, so here are some headcanons!
The thing where the kids touch the candle and promise to help Encanto however they can started as Alma's way to reassure nervous villagers that the Madrigals wouldn't misuse their gifts.
When Alma first got her door and saw an old woman on it, she was super confused, but also too tired from the day's events to question it too much. When she eventually looks the same as her picture on the door she has a small mid-life crisis that she reveals to nobody.
Same for each of the triplets.
People do actually break into song in universe, it is a side effect of all the magic in Encanto. The first time it happened was about seven months in and everybody freaked out about it for months.
Alma eventually gets used to the singing thing and never thinks to mention it isn't normal to her kids or grandkids. In fact, most people in Encanto take the singing for granted, so when the mountains open up and they get a few new villagers nobody bothers to warn them that the village will regularly break into song.
I know the creators said the village is completely self sufficient, but like... where's the quarry for all the stone? Where are they making glass, that requires a specific kind of sand, do they have that sand? How are they getting new books? Nah bro, the village has three merchants who journey past the mountains twice a year.
I know the generally accepted headcanon is that Agustin was born outside of the Encanto, but I think his parents were city dwellers visiting family when the village got raided. They escaped with their hosts and planned to take their family back to the city with them, then ended up in a magic paradise instead.
In the same vein, Agustin's dad was a banker and has become the town's unofficial treasurer since that's about the only way he can contribute with his skill set.
Agustin's mother passed in childbirth, his father eventually remarried, but only after a few years of grieving. Agustin has three much younger half siblings.
Bubba comes to Encanto and does indeed get with Isabela, but I mean... some AMAB dude who surrounds himself with the trappings of masculinity and had zero problem seeing through Isabella's hyper feminine facade? Trans woman Bubba. All I'm saying. (Transphobes dni, neither of us will change the other's mind).
The art book had something about Isabela looking more indigenous than her sisters, so we know the family has indigenous roots. I wasn't able to find a lot about queer history in Colombia, but I did see that two native men were murdered by colonizers for being gay out in the open. That kinda implies that homophobia comes from the colonialist side of modern Colombia. I choose to believe that Alma has a great aunt on the native side of her family who is married to a woman. She grew up hearing that they have to keep the marriage secret to protect her aunts, so when she notices Bruno has a boyfriend, she starts planning a secret wedding without mentioning anything to Bruno.
Bruno doesn't realize his mama knows he's not straight, he thinks he's hidden it very well. When Isabela and Bubba nervously come out at dinner and Alma asks Bruno if he has any advice about being queer, Bruno inhales what he's eating and needs the Heimlich.
I agree in general with queer Madrigal headcanons, but I'm also aware that we're dealing with an isolated community a couple decades before the lgbt rights movement really kicked off in Colombia. I suspect most of the characters wouldn't use any of the labels we use today, and in fact, characters like Mirabel wouldn't stop to consider they're not straight until they've already been happily married for two decades.
That said, I think Mirabel is what we consider to be bi with a heavy preference for men. Her husband is quiet and doesn't have a single creative bone in his body, but thinks everything she sews deserves to be put in a museum. They bond because he commissions her to make something for his mother.
Luisa gets a tiny little husband who falls to pieces when she flexes. He does not understand people who say she is too masculine, or call Isabela the pretty one.
Camilo's youngest son is autistic, not that any of them know that's what the kid's deal is. Camilo just thinks his son is hilariously blunt and really into bugs. He doesn't really get how the kid can spend hours looking at an ant hill without getting bored, but whatever, he'll just buy the kid an ant farm for his birthday.
When women marry into the Madrigal family that don't have anybody to walk them down the aisle, they ask Tio Bruno to do it. It started with Camilo's wife, whose father is abusive, and became a tradition as the family grew.
When Mirabel becomes a grandmother the family starts calling her Mirabuela. Similarly, Antonio eventually becomes Tio Nio, to the point that some people forget he has a first name.
I actually have a lot of headcanons about the future of the Madrigal family but this is getting long, so I'm going to stop. I've ended up mentally writing whole ass fics for Camilo's wife and his youngest granddaughter, as well as for Mirabel's daughter, and Dolores' great grandson, so if I get into all of that this thing is going to triple in length.

If you're still taking prompts, how about some Alma being protective of Bruno once he comes back?
"I need a prophecy."
Alma takes a deep breath and folds her hands in front of her stomach. She is blocking Casita's doorway. Nonetheless she tries her best to look accommodating, while at the same time keeping the man in front of her from entering their home.
She likes Emanuel well enough. His parents had been dear friends and good people, even though they have apparently failed to instill some manners into their only child.
An uncomfortable thought enters her head.
Maybe it isn't so much a lack of manners, but a sense of entitlement. An entitlement the entire village seems to share in regard to her son's time and services and his gift. An entitlement she had done nothing to curb in the last fifty years.
'I need a prophecy.'
That sounds so familiar. She has heard that sentence a lot over the years. Not a question. A demand. One she had been all too willing to fulfill.
But that's not the truth either, is it? It hadn't been her dealing with the demands, but her son. Her son, who hadn't been willing at all, but who had done it anyway because years of guilting and insisting had whittled away at his ability to say no.
He still has trouble saying no and that is Alma's fault.
It's time for her to do what she should have done the first time a polite request had turned into an entitled demand.
"I assume," she drawls and straightens her posture "that I'm supposed to translate this into 'Can your son give me a prophecy, please,'?"
The last word leaves her lips like a gunshot.
Emanuel looks taken aback by the vitriol in her voice. "Uhm… I guess?"
"What do you need this prophecy for?"
The man bristles and blushes and that tells Alma everything she needs to know. He probably wants to know if his wife will cheat on him once again. Alma wonders why he thinks that the answer will be different from the other dozen times he's asked.
Odette is a passionate girl trapped in a loveless marriage. What answer does he expect?
"That's private!"
"Well, I'm afraid I can't let you in then. You see, Bruno doesn't give prophecies anymore unless it is a life or death kind of situation. And even then he might decline."
"This is life or death." At Alma's raised eyebrow he grows even more agitated. "She promised she won't do it again. I need to know what's going on between her and the baker."
"How about you ask her instead of my son?"
"No! I need a prophecy! I want a prophecy! It's your son's duty."
Alma breathes deeply.
'They need your visions, son. It's your duty!'
The nausea threatens to overwhelm her, but she won't show weakness now.
"The answer is no."
Emanuel looks like he might try to push past her, but Casita rattles the door menacingly and he steps back. He is breathing hard, but then a glint enters his eyes.
"Guess I'll have to ask your son himself the next time I see him in the village. He'd always been so accommodating, I'm sure I can make him see reason."
Bruno might see 'reason', but what Alma sees is red.
"So you need a prophecy that badly, Senor?"
Emanuel winces at the stiff address. He knows he has messed up, but there is no going back now.
"Si!"
"This is apparently of utmost importance to you." Alma pats his arm and leans in. "So allow me to take care of this myself. Here is your prophecy: your wife and the baker will make a very cute couple once she finally finds the courage to leave you and pursue him."
Emanuel sputters and huffs. "That's not-"
"You are right." Alma hasn't rudely cut off anyone like that in years and it feels good. "That's not really a prophecy, since everyone knows about their feelings except you. So here is another one. On the house, so to speak." She leans even closer and lowers her voice. "If you dare bother my son about this or any other prophecy, they won't ever find your body."
Alma doesn't think she is that scary. How could she be? Over 70 years old and so much smaller than Emanuel? But the man blanches alarmingly and hurriedly puts distance between them.
"The council will hear about this!", he shouts and runs away.
Alma is not worried. Let him go to the council to tell them that the holder of the candle, poised and kind Alma Madrigal, has threatened him.
Let's see how much they will believe him.
She closes the door and upon turning around only jumps a little when she comes face to face with her grinning nieto.
"Abuela!" Camilo exclaims with way too much glee. "Didn't know you had it in you!"
"I have no idea what you are talking about, hijo." Alma sniffs and walks past him with her nose held high "And I expect you to keep this to yourself."
"Sure thing, Abuela." After a short pause he adds "I'm sure Isabela would help you, though. I heard she's experimenting with flesh eating plants."
Alma doesn't react. It wouldn't be appropriate.
But it is something to keep in mind.
****************
The way Bruno hugs her from behind and gently kisses her head at dinner that night reminds Alma once again that you can't trust Camilo with a secret.
Her son's arms are tight around her and he shakily whispers 'Gracias Mama' into her neck.
'Oh well', she thinks as she takes the hand of her son and kisses a sore knuckle 'I guess I can let it slide this one time.'

do u have any alma and pedro headcanons?? LOVE ur blog queen 😋😋
aww thank you so much!! and ooh this is interesting ask! I never get questions about alma and pedro but I think it would be fun to explore them!
some of these are inspired from “tale of three sisters” encanto book! I highly recommend it!!
pedro is confirmed to be a writer so I feel like he would write poetry and stories for alma or inspired by her!!
Alma snorts when she laughs!! and pedro finds it really cute!
Pedro taught her to sew and then she passed it down to her kids!
Pedro is dramatic!! he’s very theatrical in nature! (we can see where madrigals get that from)
I feel like alma was always someone who was community orientated! her and pedro probably got lots of help as a young couple from the village! and they would return the favor!
Pedro is a really good cook! and alma is a really good dancer!
both of them learned to play an instrument! (don’t know what but I think them as musicians is fun!)
pedro would talk to the babies as they were growing inside alma all the time! like full on conversation! “your mama is real stressed right now could you calm down on the kicking”
Pedro always wanted to be a dad!
he’s also a really bad snorer but alma loves him too much to say that!
Pedro is impatient! he can get annoyed easily whilst alma is more patient!
He loves exploring and starts talking to alma about the places they were going to visit with the triplets!

mirabel headcanons?
Absolutely! Here’s Mirabel headcanons:
Mirabel’s full name is Mirabel Teresa Rojas Madrigal
She is named after Saint Teresa of Ávila
Her birth was a disappointment as everyone had been expecting a boy
As a baby, Mirabel was very easy to please/soothe and didn’t enjoy being fussed over
Her first eleven words were all colours, starting with “purple” for Luisa
She had no interest in walking or crawling, until Agustín accidentally knocked a book off a shelf and she had to move to put it back. This started a long game of Agustín (and later Pepa) throwing books and Mirabel stopping what she was doing to walk over and put them back
Young Mirabel use to cry at mess
Subsequently, she had to eat separately from Camilo
Mirabel had her first eye test after Camilo’s ceremony, as she had been unable to see it
She has myopia in both eyes
The green frames are not for Bruno (who had no relationship with her), they are for Pepa because young Mirabel wanted to have green eyes like her Tía
Agustín taught her to play the piano very early on
Julieta taught her to sew
When stressed, she over cleans - a habit she picked up from her mother
The most popular theory of what her gift would be was sight, ironically. The family figured she was very observant and similar to Dolores, hence similar gifts
As she gets older, she gets mistaken for Julieta more frequently
Like her mother, she’s never had any desire to leave Encanto
Like her father, she burns very easily in the heat and therefore tends to carry around an embroidered parasol (that matches her skirt) during particularly hot days
She is known to be the most intelligent among the Madrigals
The biggest history nerd
Will find a way to make anything into a history lesson. Seriously ANYTHING. Definitely associates particular historical figures with her family members
Mirabel is the biggest bookworm in Encanto
She also has a fondness for philosophy
Her philosophy knowledge can be a bad mix with her overthinking, anxious mind. When she’s anxious or paranoid, her philosophy books are placed on the highest shelves in Casita
She is closest to Luisa
She didn’t start helping with Antonio until he reached the toddler stage/moved into the nursery with her, as she is uncomfortable around babies
She use to read to Antonio when they shared a room, so much that she unintentionally memorised the stories. She use to be able to recount them word for word while they were out and about town to calm him down
She can play the piano and accordion
She loves knitting. Never leaves home without some knitting needles and wool, just in case
She has no interest or skill in making clothes. She just likes the more decorative elements (embellishing), such as embroidery and beading
Probably gets a job as an embellisher in the future
She learnt French for the sole purpose of reading originally French books. She is fluent, as far as reading and writing goes. She is pretty terrible at speaking
She has very bad stage fright and hates public speaking. She also can’t act, like at all. If Tío Bruno or Camilo want her help with a show, she’ll only accept a backstage role
She is the shortest Madrigal and always will be. She uses it as a bragging right, as oppose to a weakness
She is aromantic asexual
She doesn’t want children. Maybe just a cat. Or three…. Or twenty.
Is a real old lady at heart
She has PTSD - that’s pretty self-explanatory
Is a bit of a workaholic, and therefore can be hypocritical to Luisa
Don’t argue with her. She will write an entire six page essay to prove you wrong with full evidence
Does have a habit of needing to be right, she gets it from Dolores
Mirabel does not want to be Alma’s successor
