In your opinion, what would be the best SMT game to start with between III (remake), IV, and V? For someone who’s played Persona 3-5 but none of the main series games

Okay this is a hard question because SMT is really difficult to get into if your only reference point is Persona 3-5. You have to be willing to accept that SMT is NOT persona and you will NOT be getting the same experience.

It really depends on what aspects of Persona you like though. For me I am a huge fan of turn based RPGs so the SMT series was not a hard jump to make. But if you like Persona for the characters and the story I really don’t think mainline SMT should be your first step into other MegaTen titles because SMT is really not about the characters. It’s about the world, and the themes, much more than about the characters and story. So if you go into SMT expecting to fall in love with a diverse and deep cast of characters, you might be disappointed. My suggestion would be to go play Devil Survivor tbh. However, SMT shines in world building, concepts, themes, and presentation. You have to be willing to look a little more abstract into the world.

If you still want to try SMT, though, here are my suggestions.

I would say if you love character and story SMTIV probably has the most fleshed out characters of the three. There’s a reason people got mad at SMTIV for being too similar to persona. There’s a lot about it that’s not for the faint at heart, and it’s still a difficult game, but the concept and characters are super interesting to me so you might enjoy it. Not as deep as Persona characters, but deep enough to where you become invested in them as people.

If you’re more interested in the gameplay, SMTV might be a good bet, because I think it is very fun to play even though it’s incredibly difficult (although I am playing it on the hardest difficulty so it might be easier at a lower difficulty) and I think for newcomers it might be easier to fall into coming from Persona. But don’t expect a good story, SMTV’s story and pacing is quite frankly terrible, and I’m not a fan of the world either. Others might challenge me on that. What you’re getting is incredibly fun and fast paced gameplay at the cost of an interesting world.

SMT Nocturne really isn’t a good game for people coming straight from Persona IMO. But it is the game that invented the Press Turn system and Persona 3 likely wouldn’t be what it is without Nocturne paving the way for it. So if you’re interested in the history of MegaTen Nocturne is a must play. A lot of people have said the remake isn’t as good as the original but it is a fine way to play, especially with the bug fixes and updates. This isn’t to say Nocturne is worse than IV and V, btw, because Nocturne is hailed as one of the best. But it’s difficulty might be a barrier to keep you from enjoying it.

That’s kind of a recurring theme, because SMT is kind of intended for hardcore RPG enthusiasts the games are WAY harder than Persona. For reference, Persona 5 on Merciless is a million times easier than SMTV on Hard. You really have to think critically about every move and prep for every major battle in SMT. Persona just doesn’t have that sort of difficulty. Not to say one is better or worse than the other, they’re just for two different types of players.

I do find it funny that you don’t want to try out SMTI and SMTII. But understandable, those games require a lot of preparation to play, especially since you can soft lock yourself in them.

Sorry that I don’t have a concrete answer, but I’m leaning towards saying IV or V just because they are slightly more forgiving than Nocturne. In summary, for story, play IV. For gameplay, play V.

Or just play Strange Journey, I’ve heard that game is really good.

As a person on the aro/ace spectrum, I think personally I don’t mind Alastor smut and all that cus asexuals do fuck, they still have sex, not all I recognise, but it’s a spectrum depending on the person. Like my asexual friends do it to pleasure their partners and find joy in that. Or they just aren’t as sexually interested, but can still be down other times. Aromantic ppl can still be in relationships as well ! I know I’m preaching to the choir here, but that’s what I think

this is a very personal tangent about a very niche subject, but i do actually find the fact that alastor is actively 100% not into sex at all kinda refreshing from a representation standpoint. a lot of allo people's first reaction to finding out asexuality is,,, like,,, a thing is to be like 'oh but you still do fuck right??? you're not all touch-adverse celibate freaks right???' and, as someone who is one of those touch-adverse celibate freaks, i have just grown a bit tired of it. like, sure, some ace people do have sex and some aro people are in relationships, but, like, what if they don't? what are you going to do then, linda?

Opinion on Arkham Knight Jason Todd?

Don't know if your talking Arkham Knight Genesis comics or the game, but let's talk game !!

Design and storyline wise one of my favorite versions of Jason, voice acting was perfect perfect amounts of hurt and assertiveness, I liked that they made him look young despite being massive because like, yes he's baby!!!

And while I like that Joker lured him after butchering kids and stitching their dismembered parts together, which while gruesome, is good to show Jason's care for kids (which was kinda missing in modern media).

I also liked how his first reaction for it was kinda "Batman has a moral line that he won't cross? Well I'm ready to cross it rn!"

But I kinda missed the betrayal. Sheila's betrayal is something that I feel strengthens Jason's resolve about people, so this is my pet peeve lol

I still haven’t actually finished it but fck it it’s the non-crossover SMT i most love talking about, so:

favorite Devil Survivor Overclocked characters and/or route?

FUCK YOU’RE ABOUT TO OUT ME

I haven’t played Devil Survivor yet… I need to, I know I do. I will. The gameplay looks really unique and fun so I definitely want to try it out soon. I hope they make a new game for modern consoles, I think a switch Devil Survivor would work really well.

I do not know a lot about the plots… but my favorite character from design alone is Atsuro. Idk anything about him, but he seems like he’d fit the best friend archetype so I’m drawn to him. Then again he might turn insane and evil or something so I could be completely off, but I like him. Especially his English voice. Also the art design of these games make every character look so appealing, I can’t get over it.

The only reason I haven’t played them is because they’re semi expensive games so I only semi recently got Record Breaker (got lucky at a GameStop that still sold 3DS games) and I have yet to purchase Overclocked. You’ll have to tell me what you enjoy about the games, I have heard high praise for them and I think if Atlus returned to this series they might actually have a game on their hands that won’t immediately be called worse Persona upon release

Ok, this has been bothering my mind, but do you have some kind of timeline on how long you've been thinking about t!kirito? I'm so interested in how much you've developed of this story

so the first *post* i made about it was late october

at which point i was just newly getting back into it, and my only "leads" were a few scenes in the phantom bullet arc

now the thing is this whole situation *actually* started almost a decade ago when little grub ak as a 7-sweep (14 year) old originally got into anime in the first place *specifically because my egg ass got obsessed with that specific arc that just came out in the anime back then (the LN is older)*

like you don't understand the levels of gender envy little me was experiencing back then

so *really* this has been brewing for like a decade because this is actually the original reason i got into sao at all; and considering this was my first "proper" anime (i watched like, pokemon and beyblade and bakugan but those were dubbed and just with stuff like ben 10 and i don't feel like it counts), well...

in hindsight this whole situation is the reason i got into anime at all. because i got gender envy from kirito's ggo avatar as a little grub. and then stopped watching sao because it was considered "cringe". and then stopped caring about "cringe", and then recently decided on a whim to go on a nostalgia tour of the old anime i watched back during the early 2010s. to be hit in the face with nostalgia and seeing things i didn't even notice as a little kid all over the place

and now it just feels like i owe it to my younger self

to prove it right

and i think it was right

way more than i was expecting

so yeah

it started a decade ago and it's because i used to be an egg myself and i found another egg to project upon without even knowing the words to express all this

and now i do
