how can you not see how ableist some of you guys are? can we stop dehumanizing El and using her trauma as “proof” that Mike and her don’t work out? can we stop using El’s trauma as an excuse to say she’d be better on her own? can we stop using El’s trauma to say she can’t be in a romantic relationship until she is healed? can we stop using El’s trauma to say she can’t be independent and in a relationship? can we stop using El’s trauma as an excuse to hate both on her and Mike? can we stop using El’s trauma to “prove” your ship is canon? can we please! can we please stop using her trauma!!! Please!
I have trauma because of years and years of being bullied and gaslighting/manipulative friendships, and I’m still healing. Does that mean I should stop forming friendships until I’m completely healed? (which isn’t going to happen bc trauma doesn’t just go away).

The voice in my head is persistent. It’s been over two months but it’s not letting up.

I try to focus on the lines, struggling to keep the faint remnants of my Tartosan accent from creeping into Llama Man’s commanding voice. It’s always more difficult just after I’ve been home.
Idiot.

Images from the last year keep flashing by, little details seared into my brain. Her green eyes. Her smile. The delicate birthmarks artfully strewn across her face. I used to insist on kissing each of them goodbye before I left and it always made her laugh.
It was the best sound in the world.

The more recent images are a different story. Her tears. The look of shock and confusion in her eyes. She didn’t understand, of course, and some days I’m not sure I do either. Am I an idiot for leaving her? Or for letting myself fall in love with her in the first place?
Both?

I nod at the sound technician and start over.

“I’ve sent the files off to Mike. Personally, I don’t think he’ll demand another round, the last two takes were flawless.”
“Thanks. I’m sorry for dragging you in for pick-ups again, I’ve been feeling a bit off lately.”

“Hey, it’s a pay check. And I’m going to need it for the move. We want to get settled into the new house before my son’s wedding so we’re already packing.”

“Not yet, but my wife got an offer. We’ll make it work. My kid is the only family I have left, so if he moves abroad, we follow. And I never liked staying in one place for too long anyway, I get restless.”

Charles leaves, and I turn on the coffee machine.
I’ve just finished pouring two mugs when Lee arrives.

“Oh, you must have read my mind, love, I am positively dying for a coffee right now.”
“When are you not?”

Lee settles onto the sofa with a sigh.
“It’s been one of those weeks, deadlines put such a damper on my creativity. But how was Tartosa? Did you have a nice birthday?”

“It was fine. I didn’t feel like making it a huge thing, but my mother had arranged a family dinner at the vineyard.”
“Ah, just an intimate and completely non-threatening gathering with fifteen to twenty people, then.”
I lean back against the counter and take a long sip of the coffee to avoid responding. It’s still too hot, and I grimace as the liquid burns my mouth. Idiot.
Lee isn’t so easily deterred, though.

“So, that’s it? You’re just never going to see her again?”

“Lee, first of all, she blocked me. On my birthday, no less. So I’m going to take that as a big fat hint and respect her wishes. Second, I broke up with her because it was a dead end. She’s not going to settle down for another decade, and when she does, she’s not going to pick some fifty year old relic.”
Lee raises an eyebrow.
“I beg your pardon?”

“I’m choosing to ignore your hurtful remarks because you’re clearly heartbroken and out of your mind with grief.”
I snort. “Sorry. I’m fine, really, I’m just annoyed at myself.”
“For irrationally breaking up with the love of your life or for stubbornly refusing to reconsider?”

“For being an idiot in general, I guess. I knew it was a bad idea. I even told her as much the first time I met her. But then I just had to go back and talk to her again like a complete dumbass and she practically invited herself back to my hotel. How could I say no to that?”
Lee chuckles. “Oh, but you couldn’t, of course you couldn’t. I mean, she’s not exactly my type, but I can still appreciate the aesthetics, as it were.”
“Right? And that might even have been fine if it never went any further, but I got carried away and kept seeing her even though everyone could tell it was going to end badly. We’re both better off like this, I’ll get over it.”
Lee just looks at me over the rim of his glasses.

“Are you sure? I may be a dusty old relic but as far as I’m aware, the only way you could possibly know that she blocked you is if you spent your birthday trying to look her up.”

“I’m not trying to rub anything in your face, love, I know it’s not your thing. But you were clearly serious about her if you were planning to bring her to Tartosa. And just because the poor girl understandably got slightly intimidated, you drop her like a newborn giraffe. Why not give her some more time?”

Delulu hours bc it's more fun than waiting for s5:
I was re-watching the s1 ep3 scene where Karen goes to visit Joyce to know how she's doing and brings Holly with her.
Karen and Joyce are talking about how Joyce and Jon are coping with Will's disappearance, and the focus is on the moms while this conversation is happening

And then, the focus turns to Holly when she realizes that the lights are turning on

So, just when Holly stands up and begins to walk away, therefore muffling the conversation between the moms, they begin talking about Mike.

When Holly enters Will's room and the conversation is completely drowned, they're still talking about Mike, a.k.a., the conversation isn't over and we don't know what else they said.

The last piece of dialogue we get before Holly enters the room and we can't hear anything else is Karen talking about how Mike had skipped school the previous day and how that's something he had never done before.
Which is... Suspicious, at the very least. Cause they begin talking about Mike just when Holly starts to walk away (therefore, the viewers' focus isn't on their conversation anymore but on what Holly's doing) and their voices are drowned mid-conversation when they were still talking about Mike.
It gives me the impression that whatever they were about to say was something the viewer can't know yet, because it would've been too obvious. Something along the lines of "Well, you know how Mike is with Will, it's always been... them". Something that shows that both Joyce and Karen know that something's different with their kids and they both know the other knows too (I'm so sure they've talked about this before, especially since they both seem to know judging by what Joyce said to Hopper when she went to report Will missing and the little monologue Karen gave to Mike on his room about how he can tell her any secrets he has)
So what if this was one of the scenes we get in s5, when they show all these prerecorded scenes that show how Mike was in love with Will since the beginning? What if we get the full conversation where Joyce and Karen talk about Mike's and Will's possible feelings for each other?
Is this a reach? Absolutely lmao but the idea of this montage that reveals the truth about Mike's sexuality and feelings to the audience makes me SO giddy kshfksfjkd let me be happy
(Aaalso, I lowkey find it such a good metaphor, how the audience doesn't pick up on the clues about Mike's sexuality bc they're focused on the most obvious and prominent things (milkvan and heteronormativity/holly exploring during this scene). The clues are there, but the audience doesn't see them (or chooses not to))

The summer breeze drifted through the open window, carrying the sweet scent of flowers and the hum of distant laughter. The setting sun cast a warm glow across the room, illuminating the space where Natasha Romanoff and I lay tangled in the sheets. I never thought I would be here, lying in the arms of the woman I had admired for years. And yet, the secret we shared was even darker than the desires that had brought us together.
Natasha's hand traced along my arm, her touch feather-light, and I sighed, feeling the warmth of her body pressed against mine. "Y/N," she whispered, her voice husky with desire, "You have to know that this can't continue."
I felt a pang in my chest at her words. I knew she was right, but I couldn't help but crave her touch, her affection, and her passion. "I know, Natasha," I murmured, my eyes meeting hers in a silent plea for understanding. "But it's just so...unholy."
A faint smile played on her lips as she leaned in, capturing my mouth in a searing kiss. The taste of her lips and the feel of her body against mine were intoxicating, and I couldn't help but lose myself in the moment.
As we lay there, tangled in each other's arms, I couldn't help but think of Mike, Natasha's son. The truth was, I was in a relationship with him, and he had no idea that his mother and I were entwined in this sinful passion. My heart ached with guilt and desire, the lines between right and wrong blurring in my mind.
Natasha pulled away from the kiss, her emerald eyes searching mine. "Y/N, you're in love with my son," she stated softly, the pain in her voice evident. "I can't keep doing this to him, and neither can you."
I knew she was right, but the thought of ending this connection between us was too much to bear. I didn't want to lose Mike, but letting go of Natasha seemed impossible as well. "I love him," I admitted, my voice cracking under the weight of my emotions. "But I can't help the way I feel about you, either."
Natasha sighed, her fingers tangling in my hair as she rested her forehead against mine. "I can't keep you both," she murmured, her voice filled with sorrow. "I won't ask you to choose, Y/N. But we can't keep going like this."
As the sun dipped below the horizon and the room filled with shadows, I knew that our unholy union was doomed to end in heartbreak. But for now, I allowed myself to drown in the passion that burned between us, knowing that the fire would eventually consume us all.
Days passed since the last time I had seen Natasha, and I tried to focus on my relationship with Mike. He was kind, caring, and undeniably handsome, but every time we were together, my thoughts would drift back to his mother. My heart ached with the weight of the secret we shared, and I couldn't ignore the burning desire I felt for her any longer.
One evening, as the sun began to set, I decided to take a walk to clear my head. The wind rustled through the trees, carrying whispers of my guilt and longing. As I wandered, my feet carried me to Natasha's doorstep, almost as if they were guided by some unseen force.
My heart hammered in my chest as I raised my hand to knock on the door. I knew I had to tell her the truth, no matter how much it hurt. The door opened, and there stood Natasha, her emerald eyes filled with surprise and a hint of desire.
"Y/N," she murmured, her voice soft and uncertain. "What are you doing here?"
I hesitated for a moment, searching for the right words. "Natasha, I... I need to talk to you."
She nodded, stepping aside to let me in. We moved to the living room, the silence between us heavy with unspoken emotions. I took a deep breath, preparing to confess my feelings.
"Natasha, I've been thinking about everything that's happened between us," I began, my voice shaking. "And I realized... I'm in love with you."
Her eyes widened, and she looked at me with a mixture of shock and hope. "Y/N..."
"I know it's wrong," I continued, my heart racing. "I know I should be with Mike, but I can't help the way I feel about you. I've tried to ignore it, but I can't do it anymore."
Natasha stared at me for a long moment, her eyes searching my face for any hint of doubt. "Do you really mean that?" she asked, her voice barely audible.
I nodded, tears pricking at the corners of my eyes. "Yes, Natasha. I love you."
A myriad of emotions flickered across her face before she finally stepped forward, closing the distance between us. Her lips met mine in a passionate, desperate kiss, our shared love and desire burning like wildfire.
As we pulled away, our breaths mingling in the space between us, Natasha whispered, "We can't keep living like this, Y/N. We have to tell Mike the truth."
I knew she was right, and the thought of confessing everything to Mike terrified me. But I couldn't bear to live a lie any longer. With a determined nod, I agreed. "We'll tell him, Natasha. Together."
Because, in the end, love is a force that defies reason and logic. It's an all-consuming fire that can illuminate the darkest corners of our souls, even as it threatens to burn us to ashes.
In the end, love is a paradox, a beautiful, terrifying, and powerful force that can both save us and destroy us. It's a dance between light and darkness, a never-ending battle between good and evil.
And, for Natasha and me, it's a journey that we will continue to walk together, hand in hand, through the shadows and into the light.

Time was a tricky thing. No one really knows how it works; theoretically we see time as a linear process, all the events playing out one after the other. But there are theories that all points in time simultaneously happen, with realities layered on top of others. There was no way to say what was real or fiction; what was yet to come vs what has already happened. Time just worked different. 
It was late a Thursday night. The 6th of November, 1983 to be exact; the boys were gathered around the table and ready for battle. They had been engrossed in hours of D&D. 
“The Demogorgon approaches, what do you do?” Mike said theatrically, looking towards his friends. 
It was Will’s turn. “I– I choose a fireball!” He said, rolling the dice a little too harshly as he rolled off the table and onto the basement floor. 
They should have rushed to see what it landed on; to see how the game would play out and if Will the Wise would be captured or not by the hideous beast. But time seemed to snap in place, because as soon as the dice finished rolling… the young boys around the table fell into silence; their young selves recalling every riveting detail of what had occurred prior to the destruction of the crystal; remembering how the future was supposed to play out. 
Before any of them could say a word, Nancy rushed down stairs. Normally, she would leave the boys to play their game; but she too had a burst of memories. 
“It– we– holy shit it worked.” She said, “The crystal worked! Y/n was right!” They hugged and jumped together, ecstatic that they were finally free and safe. 
Mrs. Wheeler yelled from upstairs, telling them to keep the noise down. 
“I gotta call Steve!” Nancy said, practically tripping over her feet as she rushed to the phone. 
“El– where do you think she’d be?” Mike said, cringing when he heard how squeaky his voice was. “Oh no…. Oh no no no– we’re in middle school again!” 
“I am not going outside tonight.” Will said, eyes wide as he remembered what was out there waiting for him. “What if– what if it didn’t work, and now we just relive everything twice? I can’t handle that… I can’t go through that again.” 
He was on the brink of tears before Lucas draped an arm around him. “Dude– if you do make it home tonight, without the Demogorgon snatching you, then we’ll know for sure that it worked.” 
Will shook his head, trying to distract himself by recollecting the dice that fell. When he saw it landed on 12; this time, he didn’t roll too low. “I– I did it, the Demogorgon didn’t get me. Last time… last time I rolled a 7, too low for me to kill it. I got a 12… I’m safe.” 
He felt relieved, suckling into his friends’ embrace as they celebrated. Well, all besides Mike. 
“We have to find El! What if she’s still at the lab?” He screamed, causing for his mother to make her way down stairs. 
“Boys! Too loud and its late. You boys have school tomorrow.” She said. 
They froze to look at her, expecting for her become emotional with the memories of the cursed events to come. 
“What? Why are you staring at me like that? You know the rules on a school night, off you go.” She said, leaving them be. 
“She doesn’t remember.” Dustin said, “Our parents don’t remember! – oh my god, Suzie doesn’t know who I am yet!” 
Mike rolled his eyes, “Dustin focus… El could still be in danger if she’s at the lab. Tomorrow, straight after school, we have to make sure Hopper finds her.” The boys nodded; Dustin pouting slightly because his girlfriend was aware she was his girlfriend yet. 
And so they rode their bikes home, into the darkness of night. Will arrived home, Jonathan and Joyce hugging him instantly and crying. They too remembered. 
Once Dustin got home, he tested his mother’s remember. She remained oblivious to any of the deaths or destruction that the little town would become known for. Since Nancy called Steve, Dustin didn’t really want to deal with his overly parental concerns… and then his mind drifted to Eddie. 
Eddie Munson who was unaware of the dangers the group faced in the years prior to them meeting in High school. Eddie Munson who would currently be friendless, struggling at home with his new life living with Wayne. Eddie Munson who was terrified that he would lose you…
He had to call Eddie. 
He dialled the number, his heart beating fast with each ring. 
“Ah- hello?” Eddie’s voice croaked on the other end. He had been sleeping, almost entire knocked out and irritated that someone had called so late it woke him up. 
“Eddie?” Dustin spoke softly, unsure if he could handle it if Eddie didn’t remember him. Eddie HAD to remember him. 
“Hender- HENDERSON!” His voice changed from groggy to ecstatic, “Holy shit– Jesus H Christ.” 
“Eddie, do you remember what happened?” Dustin asked, speaking over Eddie as he continued to swear into the phone. “I mean, if you knew it was me and we haven’t exactly met yet.”
Eddie laughed, “The hell are you on about kid? Of course I remember! I can’t believe it worked, she was a fucking genius– wait, what do you mean we haven’t met yet?!” 
Dustin sighed, “Eddie, it’s 1983.”
Eddie dropped the phone, ignoring Dustin’s ‘hellos’ on the other end. Eddie rushed into the bathroom, and sure enough, his hair was shorter and all his tattoos were gone. Well, not gone per-say, he just hadn’t gotten them yet. 
“Shit.” 
“Eddie!” Dustin’s faint voice spoke from the small speaker of the phone. 
Swearing again, Eddie picked up the phone. His hand was shaking. “Yeah– sorry. I just– fuck this is really weird.”
“You don’t say. Look, meet us after school tomorrow and we’ll sort out the damage then. We don’t really know who remembers– I think just the people that were around when the crystal broke might remember….” 
Eddie tried to respond and listen carefully to his friend. “God you sound like a baby– forgot how much younger than me you were Henderson.” 
“Oh shut up old man; see you tomorrow.” He laughed, handing up the phone and ending the call. Leaving Eddie all alone in silence. 
Although his surroundings were dead quiet; Eddie’s mind was anything but quiet. For a moment he was annoyed at the idea that he would repeating most of high school, even though it is technically the first time. But for the rest of the night, all he could do was think about you. 
He had no way of knowing where in the world you were; or if you even were in the same world as him. Your idea of destroying the crystal had worked; but to what extent? 
He was afraid that if he were to never see you again, then he’d forget you. And he wouldn’t allow himself to forget you. He grabbed the closest notebook he could find, ripping out the pages of random song lyrics he knew he’d never use, as started to write down everything he could remember about you. 
He started with the way you laughed, the way you sung to yourself and hummed when you thought no one was around. He wrote how you smiled, the way your rose crinkled to one side slightly more than the other if you were disgusted at something. 
He wrote the lyrics to the song you taught him and how you’d always cling the t-shirt he wore in your fist as he slept; crying slowly to himself as he was afraid he’d never be able to hold you like that again. 
He didn’t want to waste any time writing down every detail. He didn’t want to forget.

Hi. Can you tell us how do you believe byler will happen in s5 in the most realistic way? How the love triangle will be resolved?
Hi :) I usually hesitate to make specific s5 predictions because I have a feeling it will be different from what any of us expect so I don’t want to pretend I’ve got all the answers. That being said:
These are my general thoughts/predictions going into season 5:
First, I think it’s likely El will spend a lot of time bonding with Lucas (because of Max–didn’t Caleb allude to this already?), and probably Hopper too. I think she’s really going to come into her independence and realise Mike’s ‘love’ isn’t doing anything except holding her back. We see throughout the series that her character develops when she is not with Mike and stagnates/regresses when they are dating. With her parental figure returned to protect and support her, and newfound determination to achieve her goal i.e. save her best friend (something Mike’s ‘love’ couldn’t help her do), she really has like…not much need for him? I think El got what she thought she wanted (Mike’s confession), only to find it wasn’t what she really needed (it didn’t help her win in the end), and she’s going to be processing this come s5.
I think Mike will recognise that El is pulling away and direct his attention to the person who actually does need him: Will. We already see the beginnings of this in ‘2 days later’: El isolates herself in her old room, clearly not happy, and Mike chooses to comfort Will instead of going to her. Same pattern as in the final shot: El walks away from Mike, alone, and he stays by Will’s side.
Mike and Will are likely going to spend a large chunk of the season together. This has been foreshadowed (‘We have to kill him’/‘We will’, them paired in the final shot). Will is probably going to find himself in danger early on (he’s the supernatural focus of the season and it’s confirmed they are jumping straight into the action), which will bring the return of s2 Mike in full force.
I think we will get a lot of romantic tension, and references to their history to remind the audience how special their relationship really is. And most crucially: the gradual unveiling of what’s really going on in Mike’s head—probably while he himself is coming to terms with all of it—so the audience can begin to piece together why he’s changed so much since s3. I’m not sure how they will do this (more explicit pining? Vecna? Mike confiding in someone else?) but it’s really important otherwise Will is going to look like a second choice.
Thinking about the break up, mid-season is most likely to me because I just don’t believe Mike or El are quite there yet in their arcs for an early season split. Imo, Mike still needs to process that his ‘feelings’ for El are rooted in attachment/codependency (though I do think on some level he is aware that he’s not actually in love, which is why he did everything in his power to avoid the word—friends don’t lie), which will naturally happen when he starts to accept that how he feels for Will is what love is supposed to feel like. El also needs time to fully understand that she’s better off without their ‘romance’. The time-skip is a mystery to me, but I think Mlvn have to break up before it happens. (If their relationship makes it another two years and then Byler happens, Will is again going to look like a second choice and no-one is going to buy it).
As for how the break up would actually go down, I can’t be sure but I hope it will be amicable and light-hearted (maybe even a bit funny like an ‘I dump your ass’ callback as I think El is most likely to initiate), just one of those things that feels inevitable when it happens as they’ve both been spending time apart and prioritising other people and realising they’re actually happier that way. That would make sense if everything I have said up to this point is how it happens. Of course it could be more dramatic, but I think either way it will be emotional and end with them hugging it out.
After that…I don’t think we have enough to go off for any solid theory. But what I personally believe is that there will be a very dramatic confession scene for Mike and Will. I’m talking like Max’s running up that hill scene level of drama. Flashbacks and everything. I just think there will have been way too much build up and if they’re going to go for Byler, they really need to commit to it. I think it’s going to be one of them trying to save the other's life.
I obviously do think they will have quieter moments after though—maybe this is when they kiss. And I truly don’t believe El is going to be heartbroken over Mike and Will. I think by the time anything happens between them, El will have come to terms with how incompatible her and Mike were. I am of the belief that El likes the idea of Mike more than she actually likes/wants Mike. I don’t think she will struggle to move on once she realises this. Honestly I kind of hope the three of them can laugh about it in the end because that would be so healing to see.
That’s how I see it generally, but like I said I leave room for myself to be proven wrong and I’m always open to different interpretations (especially about Mike). Also, I don’t really see it as a love triangle? I mean it is one, in the technical sense. But I think that implies Mike is going to be ‘choosing’ between Will and El, and I really don’t think that’s the story here. I think for Mike it’s a story of realising it’s okay to be who you are (in a general sense and about his sexuality), and with that comes accepting who the right person for you actually is. At this point I have to wonder
Does anyone on tumblr actually like the genre of the shows they watch anymore? Wednesday, supernatural, stranger things. None of them are ever going to be the peppy, inoffensive milquetoast, glurge fest they want it to be. For example
The possibility of Xavier being Wednesday’s stalker and Tyler being a serial killer exponentially increases the chances of her choosing one of them. The only things standing in the way of either happening is Wednesday getting Xavier arrested, which he seems to have gotten over pretty quickly may I say, and the fact Tyler made her look foolish. The creepier they are the more interested she is. She’s not a normal person. She doesn’t live by normal person rules. It’s an Addams family murder mystery, comedy, whodunnit. I’ll say it again Addams. Family. They don’t work by a normal morality system. You complain they seem too normal. Then you complain when Wednesday night get with a creepy boy. Make up your damn minds and get with the genre already. You might enjoy it more
I have no doubt that hellers like to go on about how Dean’s “cray cray”. But then he wants to get into bed with the car he was conceived and raised in. Or he puts everyone in the universe in the line of fire on the 0.1% chance it’ll save Sam. Then they go “oh god no. Too crazy. We should make unfounded baseless think pieces about how he likes to dye his hair unflattering colours and slow dances with his roadkill boyfriend on the beach at sunset to completely out of character music”. That’s not Dean. That’s not supernatural. That’s what Victor Frankenstein thought Adam was. A nonsensical, monstrous, mishmash filled with unfulfilled expectations. And the hellers are ostriches with the heads in the sand because the truth will upset their “delicate sensibilities”. And yet they still play the victim.
Stranger things is a horror show. Not a campy eighties set comedy. Horror. So the cries of “make Will the main character and let him be happy” is a veritable oxymoron. He’s either the focus and he suffers beyond belief like in season two. Or he’s in the background and safe-ish. And besides. He’s not The Main Character. He never really was. He’s A main character, sure. But The Main Characters are Joyce, Jim, Mike and Jane. First four credited. And the ones who do the most legwork. I love Will. I do. He’s a great character. Even if he did get a little too bitchy in seasons three and four. But the fact of the matter is. He was the goal in season one and a chess piece for the Mind flayer in season two. He suffers less otherworldly torment in 3&4 because he isn’t the goal or chess piece anymore. It might be an ensemble show. But there are de facto main characters. Four in fact. But contrary to major belief. None of them are Will. If some of you learn to accept that. Then you might get a little less testy and be able to enjoy the show for what it is instead of what you’ve imagined.
All three are great shows. Well. Supernatural could stand to treat Sam a lot better. But the streamlined inoffensive claptrap some fans think it should be isn’t it. And it will never be it. It’s better how it is and some fans just have to accept that. Although I doubt they ever will
TL;DR: Wednesday, supernatural and stranger things are great, interesting and most of all dark shows. Removing the darkness removes everything that makes it interesting. Cutting and pruning them until they’re unrecognisable just leaves you with a blob fish slowly dying for lack of water. The shows are more than just what some fans think is or should be palatable. And the sooner some fans realise that the better the fandoms will be.

Your comments on the El poll spoke to my soul. Especially the one about how they should have given El more character development instead of just having her lift her hand and scream.
How is she always on the screen (in place of interesting characters who have been pushed aside for multiple seasons) yet we know nothing about her? I'm not surprised all Mike could say about El was that she wore a big Benny's Burger shirt and she has super powers during his monologue. That's all the audience knows about her either, despite the fact that she's constantly taking up screen time.

I have mixed feelings about El because I like the idea of her, so much could have been done with her character. However, I hate that everything I "know" or "like" about El is either extrapolation or fanon. Even during her outing with Max where she's getting a taste of what it's like to pursue your interests, we're barely learning anything because, let's be honest, she needed and deserved much more than one day for soul-searching. You basically have to look for crumbs, something about colorful clothes and quiet agreement about Ralph Macchio's attractiveness.
Season 4 barely offered anything either. Everything revolves around the two men in her life: Mike and Hopper. The Mike shrine prop is a main focus when we first see her bedroom. We had the opportunity to have insight to her personality and values based on who she chose to do her 'hero project' on (like we did Will when he carried his Alan Turing poster), but she chose to do it on her dad, someone we already know about.
Maybe the writers are being purposefully vague on her character, maybe not. Maybe they make her bland enough to appeal to a maximum amount of people, maybe they want her to find and show how she really is like only once they make it clear to the audience that she will finally chooses to stop defining herself with other people (it's constantly happening: the borrowed clothes in EVERY season, from Mike to Hopper to Kali and even Will). If something's gotta give, it will in season 5.

#I know this memory keeper aspect tends to be used for Emma's sake in fics #But it would definitely add more depth if the other older siblings were mentioned too (via @thathilomgirl)
There definitely is thematic beauty in the boy who remembered everything and the girl who lost her memory that’s just *chef’s kiss*, and I’m not going to chide people for exploring that because I also enjoy that content lol
But something I’ve talked about a bit before is how I think this due to a combination of Shirai purposefully not fleshing out the supporting cast as much as he could have to avoid extraneous narrative branches

and how fandom in general tends to gravitate toward shipping, so you have the glut of the content centered around the main trio since they’re the ones with the most development and focus across the entire narrative. Something I entirely get and again am not going to chide people over because I also enjoy that content a lot (hence the url).
Yet at the same time, one of the most compelling things about these three for me is how the love they feel for their entire family is so integral to their characters. The entire escape plays out the way it does because Emma vehemently refused to leave any of her family behind from the get-go. Norman’s plan to eradicate the demons was so his family (and all the cattle children) could live freely without the fear of being eaten. One of the most important lessons Ray learns from the escape arc is that it’s okay to hope and see a world outside the scope of just Emma and Norman. Everyone is able to endure Emma’s disappearance instead of succumb to prolonged despair because they have each other. Their family enriches their lives, pushes them to strive for the better, and supports them—the latter point emphasized in the most heartbreaking way via the contrast the series makes with Isabella in chapter 37/S1e12:

Both mediums intentionally choose to incorporate a visual of a lone Isabella standing atop the wall, zoomed out to highlight just how small and alone she is in her realization. Despite loving her fellow orphans at Grace Field, she didn’t have the support network the trio had to resist succumbing to the same system that oppressed countless generations before her, while a then-Mom Sarah essentially offers her the same (non-)choice she offers to Emma.
We don’t get to see as much of this in the anime due to budget and time, but below the cut is a non-exhaustive collection of interactions Demizu incorporated into the manga to help reinforce the importance of the younger kids in the trio’s lives and vice versa (with a couple from the anime that I thought it did better). I wanted to focus mostly on the smaller ones that people might not fully register while reading through the first time; there are a few larger ones that are more likely to stand out in people’s memories, but I love them a lot so I included them (up through chapter 48 because I fought with tumblr for an hour over how many images are in here):

Likewise, I still debate just how much of Ray’s speech Thoma and Lanni heard before they decided to knock on the dining hall door, but any rate they’re playing around with the sausage links while Emma’s slapping the lighter fluid off him in the background and yelling at him. They and Emma were the three present to see just how close he’d come to accomplishing his plan, and even if they didn’t know about how deep into despair he had sunk, it still hurt to see their older brother dowsed in gasoline, ready to die for the escape plan to succeed. do you think donna just thinks harvey's mike thing is harvey's fear of people leaving him or do you think donna knows harvey's in love with mike? somehow everyone seems oblivious to it even though it's pouring out of him
Hm... Okay, I'm going to throw canon out the window here (c'mon, let's be honest with ourselves) and take for granted that Harvey is in fact in love with Mike in order to answer this.
Honestly, I think it depends in part on how willfully ignorant she is. She claims to be so all-knowing, especially about Harvey, but if that's the case, either she's incredibly selfish (see: "I'm sorry, Harvey. I just had to know." [s07e10]) or choosing to remain oblivious for some reason. Maybe the truth is too painful for her to confront?
First, if she does know Harvey is in love with Mike, I mean fully self-aware, up-front cognizant, no-holds-barred admitting it to herself, then her repeated insistence that Harvey just suck it up and get over Mike's departure is...incredibly mean. (It's mean either way, but looking through this specific lens for the moment.) Seriously, what reason does she have to do that if not to snatch Harvey up for herself at the first available opportunity? ("Harvey, Mike left... [The] reason he left is because he finally came to terms with who he is. And now that he's gone, who you are is a man who wants back in the game." [s08e01]) She's capable of being sensitive to his emotional responses, we know this from her kindness and supportiveness when his father died, but now that he's experiencing a similar kind of loss and grief (which is very much what this is, in no small part because Mike handled it so, so badly), she's suddenly turned so hard-hearted? Why? She's still in touch with Rachel, allegedly, so she isn't interested in cutting them out of their lives, but she wants Harvey to forget about Mike, because...that's the only way he's going to learn to stand on his own two feet? Give me a break, I'm sure. Rather than give Harvey the time and space to handle his devastation, she wants his emotional connection to Mike to be severed right away, and while she may claim it's so that Harvey can take his rightful place or whatever at the top of the heap, that is, to put it mildly, total bullshit. Mike only ever helped Harvey become a better version of himself, he wasn't holding him back at all. Donna just wants to be center focus in Harvey's personal life again, romantically or otherwise.
Alternatively, even if she doesn't take his love at face value, I cannot imagine that Donna thinks Harvey's Mike thing is his normal fear of people leaving him. She knows him too well (or so she claims), and there's no way she would mistake this for that. If she doesn't "know" that Harvey is in love with Mike, though, then what does she think this is? Again I say, willful ignorance. She doesn't want to label Harvey's feelings for Mike, for whatever reason; maybe because she knows she's in love with him and doesn't want to deal with Harvey's rejection, or Mike as a rival, or maybe because she doesn't want to think of Harvey as ever being out of her grasp, preferring to keep them both in the eternal limbo of will-they-won't-they; they never will, but until she finds the love of her life elsewhere, she needs to know that they could. Or maybe she just doesn't know how to think of Harvey in that way? In all the time she's known him, he's been singularly focused on his career and perfecting the image he projects to the world. Maybe the admission that he's capable of such a deep and unflinching love is too much of a shock to her vision of him.
See, this is just another reason Suits should have ended after Season 5. Mike's whole story arc gets the solemn and somewhat depressing but narratively satisfying conclusion of him going to prison, Rachel gets to keep at least some of her dignity, Harvey gets to maintain the facade of having a shred of emotional awareness, and Donna's character hasn't been thoroughly destroyed yet. Oh, well; corporate greed, it is what it is.

1. What is a piece of symbolism in your fic?
Hmm. I think with chapter 15 I would say the garden being full of decayed/dead flowers kinda did represent inner feelings, even though it’s just a reflection of the change in weather lol.
And I guess, but not sure it counts, choosing to reference the Norman Rockwell painting Freedom from Want in the very beginning. Mike emphasizes all the care and effort his mom and sister went through to make the day perfect just like that painting—there was an overabundance of food and the fancy dinnerware and all decorations and then eventually Will even carves the turkey at the table while everyone exchanges various conversations, so the painting isn’t visually different from what he can see, because he is surrounded by the same classic timeless feeling of a thanksgiving dinner, however, the family in the painting is depicted as emotionally nourished—happy and free of outside burdens, yet Mike spends the entire dinner grappling with the fact he can’t stop feelings of wanting someone and suffering from the consequences of harboring those feelings—instead of sharing in a happy dinner and reunion with his family (who he has kept at a distance for years), he snaps at Nancy’s question (which she asked in a lighthearted way, but his POV taints the question with ulterior motive, of course she makes a slight joke of it which further upsets him and doesn’t help her question to seem innocent), and he feels sour about hiding his sexuality from his family, and battles with his continuing feelings for Will that refuse to go away even after all these years of not being friends (and then the extreme jealousy that results from seeing Will in love with someone else), and then he picks at his food and further poisons himself with excessive amounts of alcohol. In the end, things were ruined and he was the main reason for it… because his repression and alcoholism acted like a poison that tainted his interactions with the people around him (mainly his interactions with Sam, Karen, and Nancy the most). And I feel like the painting represents “what could have been” if events had gone differently.

6. What's a subtle quirk your protag has? How do you convey it in your writing?
Idk why this one is hard to answer… or not sure what is considered a subtle quirk. I think he’s an overthinker, so I convey that with his inner dialogue—like my Mike will have internal debates with himself to rationalize/justify his behavior, usually about alcohol. He doesn’t like to be wrong, so he will get defensive. He cracks his knuckles or rambles when he’s nervous and unfortunately he also slaps himself at times when he becomes too emotional, and it’s usually as a form of self punishment :(
11. Is there anything important in your fic you think readers have missed/overlooked?
Possibly. I was so sure people missed the subtle coming out joke in chapter 9 because no one has mentioned it in any comments, but at least one person suspected that’s what it was… and it was. So I prefer to have faith my readers picked up on important things if they can catch something as silly and insignificant as that. And if they didn’t, well then maybe they will catch it upon a reread ;)
12. What character has the most lines in your fic? Which character has the least lines?
Not sure how accurate my answer for this will be since it’s a lot of words to go back through to determine for real, so I’m just going to go with top 4 characters in general that have the most/least lines;
Most: Mike, Will, Holly, Nancy (I do believe they get the most focus overall)
Least: Steve, Argyle, Hopper, Joyce (if someone had less than them, then they weren’t significant enough to even remember their minimal lines/oops 😭)

Now that El could finally get into Will's mind, she wasn't expecting both the shadow monster and Henry would be waiting there for the final meet. She understood that Henry too was waiting for this particular moment. He used Will to welcome El into the battlefield.
"Where's Will?"
"Look around you!"
El was trembling in anger, fear, hatred all at once. She was desperately looking for Will.
"Will!"
"Will!!! I'm here Will! Just hold on a bit! I know you can! We'll fight them together!"
Nothing came back except her echoes.
The shadow monster was swirling around the darkness in Will's mind that felt like the edge of the universe.
"What do you see, Eleven?"
El looked closely, trying her best to figure out stuff in between the shadow storms.
Wreckage everywhere!
All the broken things!
Leftovers of Castle Byers at a distance, Will's torn paintings floating here and there, DnD sets all wet in the ankledeep water. And zillions of objects that are still guarding the memories of so many golden moments many of which El could relate herself. And then she could see a patch of brownish wet grass encircling a pair of swings. One of which wasn't hanging anymore. It was broken, lying on the muddy ground.
Everything is broken.
"All of these are probably broken distorted memories! Where's Will! Where's my brother! What did you do!!!"
Henry let out a short scoff. "That's Will. That's what is left of him now. And honestly Eleven do you really think I have done this to him? Sensitive kids either grow up to be the survivors like us or just choose an early death. Good for him!"
El couldn't understand what's happening! This wasn't the plan! Will was supposed to be here. He said they will fix this together. And what is One talking about!? Who chose death?
"What do you mean?" El somehow managed to ask. She was standing at the centre and the shadow monster was now swirling around her, almost mirroring her rink o mania memory.
"Will is not that strong physically like us, El. I know he'd try to let me in just to provide this stage for us to share. And how could I be here alone without my dearest, ancient, exotic companion! Will can't take all this. He's just gathering his broken little memories at the last moment. But don't worry, it'll all be over soon. Rather we should focus on our negotiation here"

Argyle has zero clue about exactly what's going on. Jonathan was holding Will close to his chest. He was crying silently. Hopper is now trying to communicate with the rest of team, especially Joyce of course.
El doesn't look well. Mike is holding a piece of cloth under her nose which was almost totally wet. His eyes are still fixed on Will's face.
Will's lips moved slightly! Mike immediately gestured at Argyle to look after El for a bit and leaned closer to Will to hear if there's something he's saying. Jonathan saw it too.
"Will, what is it Will! You there!?" Mike softly slapped both his cheeks. Then stopped immediately as he realised that El is surely not finished fighting Vecna yet and it would be disastrous if Will completely wakes up in the middle. He just tried to communicate with Will. His Will! His best friend! And a bit more.
Mike took his left ear as close as possible to Will's lips.
"So stupid" Will mumbled. "I'm sorry".
Mike looked at Jonathan all confused. Jonathan is not completely clueless to be honest. But he doesn't have the energy to invent a good way or any way to explain it to Mike.
"Will, what are you talking about!"
"I'm sorry, Mike."
"Will! What does it mean! I...I don't understand...what sorry!...Will just hold on a little more, pls. I'm with you.We all are with you. El's there. She found you, right? El's there Will. Everything is gonna be fine". Mike was grabbing down Will's trembling legs.
"Hey Paladin, save the Mage." Will mumbled again.
"What...I'm...I can't..." Mike is just getting torn between El and Will.
"Will, it's almost over. hang tight." He decided to shift back to El again. Probably it's the time she wakes up. Probably it worked! It has to!

El can't hold it any longer. Henry referring to Will as not strong enough, was already enough to build a gigantic rage inside her. Of an amount that she can't control. She doesn't even want to.
"El! You can do it! It's your last chance! Fly El!!" She heard Mike's desperate voice.
El recalls Will's tiny wet dying body inside Castle Byers . He was still whispering that song he loved.
El recalls Max's motionless body on the hospital bed. A body that was once so full of life, always on the go, was lying still. Her Max was lying there still, all alone, lost inside her own mind.
"Join us Eleven. Your world doesn't deserve you." Henry is now literally riding the shadow monster. 50 feet high in the same darkness, a ceilingless hall.
"This is for Max. This is for Will"
SHE FINALLY UNLEASHED ALL SHE HAD INSIDE OF HER.

"Jonathan, Where's mom" Will whispered. Almost inaudible. "Mike...I..."
"Mike! Please look here he's trying to say something again" Jonathan's not crying anymore. He's almost sure by looking at El that it's gonna be alright. "Jim! You got them?? Argyle! See!"
Mike came closer to Will. "Will! Now wake up, heyyy." Mike hugged Will.
Mike couldn't return Will's hug at the airport earlier. Now when He finally did, it's Will's cold, stiff, heavy body he felt. He jumped back, still holding Will by his arms. Jonathan shifts back too, with utter disbelief. Meanwhile Jim was going to say something. Argyle too was looking at Will. El's hand was no longer on Will's chest. It was trembling one foot above in the air.
"Mike..sorry". Will's voice faded away.
A drop of blood came out of his left eye. Pain's finally over. A 15 years life of a freak finally ends when the Zombie finally dies.

At that exact moment, El woke up! She wasn't being able to breathe at first.
"We did it!!!!! We won!!! Mike! Dad! We....Will.!!" El suddenly felt like she hit something huge. Took her a few good seconds to realise what happened.

.
Mike pushed Jonathan aside. Grabbed Will into his arms again. Hugged him tight.
El's crying. Hopper was trying to pull Mike away with all his strength. Jonathan is sitting on the grass. Looking away at the dead flowers standing up magically. It's not snowing shit anymore. Where are the red clouds forming over their head?.... it's dawn. The first soft golden light of the sun was quite visible on Will's cheeks. Jonathan couldn't relate to this pile of flesh and bones. It's someone else, something else. It's not his brother. Argyle was shouting his name, he can faintly hear.

Mike is still sitting on the grass, holding Will from the back, oblivious to Hopper who's now yelling something over the walkie talkie. El is sitting beside Mike. Looking at Will. Silently shedding helpless tears.
Mike's face was completely blank paper, without any sign of any contextual emotion. He placed his cheek against Will's head and whisperd,
" Stay..... please".

After Vecna sends a message to both Nancy and Jonathan, Jonathan pulls Argyle to the side when he had a chance. He admits to him that he knows he’s Vecnas next target, it’s the obvious choice to get to Will and El. He also admits to what he said to Vecna, how he’d sacrifice himself for them in a heartbeat. If/when it happens after they arrive to Hawkins, he asks Argyle to look after his family and friends. “My family already sees you as one of us, they trust you. I just need you to promise me, please..”
Argyle is shocked, he’s mad Jonathan is so ready to throw his life away. But his best friend is practically pleading him to watch after them. So he sighs, hugs Jonathan and promises. But also makes it known he isn’t giving up on him so easy. It’ll be a cold day in hell before Argyle let’s Jonathan get hurt without a fight.
No because when Mike and Will are sleeping in the back, Jonathan carefully explains to Argyle the rest of the message. They pull over, careful to stay hidden, as Jonathan takes a deep breath, collecting all of his thoughts. He takes off his flannel and puts it over Will while he sleeps because Will was rubbing his arms before the two teenagers step outside of the van. He says, “there are things I can’t tell Will. Not yet. Because he’s going to freak out and right now, we just need to focus on finding El. He can’t worry about me yet.” And then goes on to explain that Will and El play a much bigger role in this than he ever could have anticipated. He confesses how much he hates it because he’s worried about his siblings. He just wants them to be safe and he goes on a tangent about how scared he was when Will was gone. “I felt like part of my soul got ripped away from me, Argyle. I can’t lose Will to this place again. I won’t do it.”
Jonathan spiraled when Will was gone. Everything was about getting him back. He’d do anything so he wouldn’t lose Will and El to this and Argyle knows how much the guy loves his siblings, but he’s also worried for Jonathan in this. “Jonathan… if you’re too busy saving them, who’s going to save you?”
And there’s a pause. A pause that lasts way too long because Jonathan is trying to think of what to say. He knows Argyle is going to hate this next part, but he needs to prepare him. So, in a low, small yet accepting voice, Jonathan says that there is no saving him. He's Vecna's next target. The monster made that evidently clear back in that trance he was in. It's the obvious choice to get to Will and El.
"I've buried my baby brother, Argyle. I planned his funeral alone. I can't do it again. Vecna asked me to choose between me or Will and El. It wasn't even a question. I'd... I'd sacrifice myself for them in a heartbeat."
And Argyle is just stunned because he knows how much Jonathan loves them but dammit, he doesn't want his best friend to die. But Jonathan's just spent so long explaining everything to him that he's sure he has a plan to save himself before Vecna gets to him. Or Nancy, the girl Jonathan literally brags about being so brilliant and amazing, she'll surely figure something out right? But as he's studying Jonathan's face, he sees contentment. Jonathan's okay with this. He's accepted his fate. He doesn't plan on fighting back.
"As long as my friends and family are safe, I'm okay with whatever happens next. But... I need you to do me a favor."
"What?"
"When we get to Hawkins... when Vecna gets me... I need you to watch out for them. I mean, my family already see you as you are, one of us. They trust you. I need you to promise me," Jonathan says. Argyle watches the tears form in his best friend's eyes as he looks in the van and Argyle knows he's looking at Will. "My mom, whenever she gets back, she'll... Argyle, she'll lose her mind. She'll try to go after Vecna alone. And Will and El are already in danger, I can't let them go out for revenge just because of me. And Nancy... Nance will... I can't stand to see her cry. These kids have to stay safe, Argyle. Just look out for them for me, okay? Please, I need you to promise me."
And Argyle's angry. He wants Jonathan to fight for him. If it had been Will that was the next target, Jonathan would rip the world apart until he found a way to save him. But he doesn't value his own life and Argyle knows it's going to be up to him and the others to save him because Jonathan doesn't view himself worth protecting. It pisses him off, but he watches a few tears fall from his best friend's face as he pleads with him. All he wants is his family and friends to be safe and Argyle can't be too mad at that. So he pulls Jonathan into him and promises.
"You know I will, Jonathan. I'll look out for them as long as I can, I promise. But I'm not giving up on you either. Because you're my family. You're the only family I've got. And we're going to figure out a way to save you, too, you selfless jerk," he responds. He asks Jonathan to be more willing to fight for his life. "If you can't do it for yourself, do it for Will, man. He can't lose you to this. Are you even going to tell him?"
It makes Jonathan pause, because he knows Will would be devastated if he died. And if he died, he wouldn't be able to look out for Will and that sends his stomach in knots. But he can't bring himself to tell Will that he's the next victim. He can't bear to see how he knows his little brother's face will fall and the tears that would come. He doesn't want Will to risk himself for Jonathan. So, as selfish as it is, Jonathan doesn't intend on telling Will.
Argyle doesn't either, mostly because it's Jonathan's place and not his own. He'll convince Jonathan to tell him, but for now, he doesn't say anything. He knows it's going to destroy Will when he finds out Jonathan's next, but Argyle convinces himself that it won't happen. Jonathan won't die. He wouldn't let the only person that really gives a shit about him go that easily. Hell will freeze over first. Right now, all he can focus on is getting to El, though. If the twins are destined to fight this, they need to be together. All of them do.

4. It’s neat to see Charlie in a space that he decorated, and it’s especially nice to see him looking so relaxed and comfortable in his own skin. This is 2000, so that good period post-‘80s drinking/drugs and pre-cancer, when he seemed to have more confidence than he ever had before or would again.

I’m not sure if this is for the Stones or all books in general, so I’ll just do both.
(With the caveat that I’m a massive book nerd and asking me to pick my favorite is like asking someone to choose a favorite kid, so I’m just going a bit randomly and only doing fiction. Also, as before, no particular order).
Stones:
1. Life by Keith Richards
It’s biased, but he’s entertaining as hell/so damn bitchy, and there is Charlie propaganda galore.
2. The True Adventures of The Rolling Stones by Stanley Booth
An interesting view into the Stones as a cultural force, as well as their band dynamics, and Stanley’s obvious crush on Shirley is hilarious.
3. Sympathy for the Drummer by Mike Edison
Quite honestly, I don’t read a lot of band books/celebrity bios, and a lot of that has to do with the fact that the writing is trash. Totally not the case here. Edison has a very Hunter S. Thompson meets Tom Wolfe, gonzo/New Journalism style that makes the book enjoyable to read even just for the prose. Of course, the most important part is that it’s all about why Charlie Watts is amazing.
4. S.T.P. by Robert Greenfield
Like the Booth book, a cool view into the band itself and its cultural impact. The book he wrote about following them in 1971 is also pretty good.
5. Stoned by Jo Wood
Lots of great, candid photos.
Books in general:
1. My Name is Red by Orhan Pamuk
This is a novel about a miniaturist in the 16th century Ottoman Empire, but it’s also an exploration of religion, love, sex, violence, art, and everything else under the sun. The subject is already close to my heart, both because Islamic miniature painting is an art form I love and that period/place intersects with my professional life, but the prose is mind bendingly good. Each chapter has a different narrator, and it’s not only people that narrate, but the color red, a corpse, death, etc.
2. Brideshead Revisited by Evelyn Waugh
Waugh is one of my favorite English novelists, and this may be my favorite one of his books. It’s sweeping yet still human, sad but still retains hope, funny and dark without losing any of its gravity. The description of Charles and Sebastian under the tree with Aloysius the teddy will haunt me forever.
3. The Collected Poems in English: Joseph Brodsky
Poetry is a little outside of fiction, but I adore Brodsky, so we’ll stretch. To be quite honest, I’m guessing that this is the best resource to read him in English, because I have all of his work in Russian, but please, read him any way you can. He’s criminally underappreciated outside of the Russophone world, and his work is just shatteringly amazing. If you’ve never tried anything by him, look up “May 24, 1980.”
4. Love in A Fallen City and Other Stories by Eileen Chang
This is a novella attached to a collection of short stories, and every piece deserves to be written. Chang shines a fascinating light on early 20th century Chinese culture and society, normally from an often little appreciated female perspective. Even though many of her works focus on relationships between men and women, she’s not any kind of stereotypical romance writer, and you get a lot more than cheap tears or saccarine happy endings.
5. Love in the Ruins by Walker Percy
It’s the voice that draws me to this book, and I think that’s also what makes it so engaging. Dr. Thomas More (descendant of the famous author of Utopia) is a southern doctor struggling day to day to look after his patients in a disintegrating country. He’s also an alcoholic, a lapsed Catholic, and a divorcee who lost a daughter and ricochets between women trying to find stability and meaning while waiting for the end of the world.

THE NEW DAILY BRAINROT: TAROT
Okay this is kind of a big one, and I'm not sure how to break it down. It's also 12:36 AM as I'm starting this (go figure). I'll likely only do two cards per day maximum, we'll see how it goes.
I think we'll go from major arcana to minor arcana, based both on details and character presence, discussing the meaning of the cards and picking apart the associated illustrations/guidebook entries. Each card gets its own post, but they'll all get linked into this masterpost. After that, we'll start piecing together what it all means.
We've had this talk before, tarot was actually the first chat I had on byler tumblr. So...some of this is repeat info, but there's some funky stuff going on based on who and what is included where.
MAJOR ARCANA
The Fool: As I discussed with a mutual back in July (?) or August, having Will be The Fool is a fitting choice. Generally, from what I've read, The Fool (upright) is characterized with new beginnings and leaps of faith, as well as innocence and indulging ones inner child. The guidebook says much of the same, choosing to focus on the beginning of a new adventure. That makes sense, the whole show started with Will.
Reversed, The Fool represents two distinct possibilities. One, the reader is stalling due to lack of confidence or ability. Two, the reader is behaving too recklessly without considering the way their actions might affect others. The guidebook chooses to focus on the former, and talks about fearing the unknown and fearing loss of control.
That is all...very Will Byers. Like...painfully Will Byers.
What I find interesting, though, is the illustration.
On the face of the card, Will is turned away from us, holding a walkie. He's in the woods in the darkness of the UD, but there's a single source of light shining from in front of him at face height.
The Weird Parts: he's in his season 2 plaid outfit. Will is never in the woods in that outfit, let alone with a walkie. Also, the light has no discernible source. It's just...directly at face height. It's not a street lamp or anything. It just...is.
On top of that: The Fool has no number. THE FOOL HAS NO NUMBER.
That means he has the ability to be the beginning and the ending of the deck. The Fool can occur anywhere at any time, because he is the main character of the story that is the Major Arcana.

THE HIGH PRIESTESS
El is The High Priestess, because of course she is. The High Priestess acts as a go-between for the material and mystical realms.
Upright, The High Priestess is all about divine intuition, looking within yourself for understanding, and finding compassion and empathy within yourself. The High Priestess is meant to reveal truths that might not be apparent, and provide insight that tells you things aren't always as they seem. The guidebook says about the same.
Reversed, she tells you that you are struggling with this kind of self-perception and intuition. A reversed High Priestess is telling you to "pull back the curtain", if you will. This could be in regards to something about yourself that you haven't fully realized yet, or about something you refuse to acknowledge. In essence, a reversed High Priestess is the universe telling you: Be fucking fr. Deep down, you already know the truth. You just have to perceive and acknowledge it.
The guidebook focuses more on how that relates you to other people. It talks about focusing more on others' opinions of you than on what's really best for you. It tells you to trust your instincts. For our purposes...close enough!
The illustration is fairly straightforward. El looks very mystical in her pink dress from season 1 with a blue blanket cape (likely a blanket from Mike) slung over one shoulder, but not the other. She has her hand raised, clearly using her powers.
The Weird Part: The light source on her face seems to be...coming from her hand? That is, her hand is lit significantly brighter than the rest of her, and it highlights her face on that side. In conjunction with the light coming from Will's face...it might worth thinking about in the future (I'm not sure yet).
(It's also fun to note that the numbers are in roman numerals, so 2 ends up as II, which looks like an eleven)

Raph's NPC is........ *drumroll*
His Mother!

This is the way she appears to other humans, as they're only seeing the body possessed, not the demon within. A demon looking at her would see... I guess you could call it a reskin in a way. The same base form, but recoloured based on Aeshma's true form- a form she can only take in hell- with additions like, spikes, horns, flames, etc. wherever appropriate, (Not saying she has all those- I haven't actually nailed down her design yet, they're just examples), and of course like all demons, fully black eyes. This is enough for other demons to recognise who she is no matter which body she decides to inhabit.
Raph sees her... somewhere in between. He sees fully black eyes always, the same as when he looks in the mirror. But everything else sort of exists as a wavering sheen, or an overlay that's affected by his own energy. When his demonic energy is higher, his vision gets closer to that of other demons. If it's lower, the demonic traits look less solid, less opaque, though they are still there. So to an extent, he can choose which image to focus on. If he focuses on the demonic traits, or on his own demon side, or just gets really angry, the overlay is slightly clearer than her human body.
This is all part of why he hates Aeshma so much. Because he was constantly seeing his human mother under it all. The times when he was most connected to his own humanity, or when he needed a mother more than ever, she almost looked normal. It seemed as though she easily Could be the kind of mother that normal people had. But never would be, because she was being puppeteered by this demon. Every time she was committing violent murder in Raph's line of sight, he could see and remember that there was a real, human woman inside of her, who wasn't like this, probably never would have done something like this. There was a woman behind those eyes somewhere, who was being forced to do and watch so much she never should have been. Who was probably terrified every time. He could never forgive his demon mother for doing that- or for sealing away the human mother he could have had.

I remember you being interested in these, and I tried drawing them but I just couldn't get it to look the way it did in my head. BUT I FOUND A GAME (This one here) THAT LOOKS EXACTLY LIKE IT!!
