friday snippet - thank you for the tag babe @c0mbatchameleon <3
Regulus remembered James well. He always noticed him—not just in a physical sense, but James had a way of demanding attention. Not in an irritating sense, but rather in a manner that lit up and warmed up any room he entered. Regulus never blamed his brother for wanting to be close to the sun. Trying his best to feign interest in his book, Regulus couldn't shake the feeling of James' eyes on him. Did James ever notice him too? Did he ever think of Regulus as more than just his best friend's little brother? Or perhaps now, as more the current adult in charge of one of his players? His thoughts were interrupted by the loud and messy steps of Draco.
snippet of a WIP i can't share yet oops

Eugene: Can I ask your advice for something personal?
Wednesday: Of course you can ask for it, whether I can dispense it is another story.
Eugene: What is the best way to a girl's heart?
Wednesday: Through the rib cage.
Enid: Weds, I don't think that...
Wednesday: The sternum may give you trouble but it's nothing that can't be overcome.
Enid: Wednesday, seriously, I don't think Eugene was asking about... [looks at Eugene] Are you taking fucking notes!?

If you’re still taking prompts, how about Eda taking bets with the other Owl House parents on which kids will be proposing first?
Tumblr media
"Willow," Darius said, like it should have been obvious. "Of course it'll be Willow."
"You're betting against our son?" Camila demanded, eyebrows raised.
"Yes," Darius said.
Alador nodded. "Yeah, my money's on Willow," he said.
Camila threw her hands up. "Am I the only one who has any faith in him!?" Camila vs Hunter's sort-of-dad and sort-of-step-dad; it wasn't a battle of wills that Eda expected, but it was one she enjoyed watching.
"I agree," Perry said. "I'd say Willow."
Raine looked contemplative. They hummed, tapping a rhythm on the table, but didn't offer a side yet.
"Actually, I side with Camila," Lilith said slowly. She looked like she was thinking hard. Weighing the pros and cons would be Eda's bet. "Hunter is shyer than Willow, but he loves her dearly and he's brave. He can be very determined. I can see him proposing."
Darius and Alador exchanged dubious glances. Camila smiled smugly.
"Well, what about Luz and Amity?" Raine asked, tapping their chin.
"Luz," Camila and Eda said.
"Amity," Lilith said.
"Honestly, considering their track record, I expect them both to propose on the same day," Alador said with a shrug. "Or they'll try to anyway. Hopefully without Hooty's involvement this time."
"Is something wrong with Hootsifer?" Lilith demanded.
"You don't want me to answer that."
"Okay," Darius cut in quickly. "What about Gus and Matt?"
Perry snorted. "They'll need to actually date first," he said. "And my hair will be entirely grey by the time those boys sort themselves out. They're both painfully oblivious."
"Are they still calling it a rivalry?" Camila asked sympathetically.
"Unfortunately," Perry sighed.
Alador snorted into his apple blood. Eda gave him and Darius her most shit-eating grin.
"Yeah," Darius sighed. "We'll all be waiting a while on those two."

Eddie doesn't know he means it that way until Steve takes it that way.
The "God, i love you" that just slipped out one morning during a particularly heavenly breakfast of syrupy homemade pancakes after nightmares had driven them to an impromptu sleepover at Steve's McMansion.
He doesn't know he means it that way until Steve and his gigantic, beautiful, bulldozer of a heart takes it that way.
Until Steve's syrup sweet lips are on his and everything just kind of slots into place that yeah. Yeah he meant it that way. He'd always mean it that way. He'd be a complete fucking idiot if he didn't mean it that way.
Would it have been nice to be dating him first? Absolutely. But then Eddie's never done anything the right way round, has he?

Beru found out about their new neighbour on a one pretty unremarkable day.
Owen was out that afternoon, gone to recycle some of the old machinery parts they had left after one of their perimeter sensors had finally been worn down by the increased storms. The desert was calm that day, thankfully, as Luke had started to become very restless from not getting to go outside in days.
Perhaps Beru should've realised that such restlessness was going to make Luke forget their usual rules, in his haste to get out of the house, as all of a sudden she noticed that the immediate area around the house was uncharacteristically quiet, and not full of noises made by little boy playing space battles.
She didn't, however, get too far in her searches, when there was a tall shadow casted onto the sand right next to hers.
"Excuse me-" The man didn't even get to finish what he was saying, when Beru had already reacher for the prybar in the toolbox and turned around, gripping it tightly and ready to strike.
The Suns were partially behind the man, obscuring his features momentarily from her. She was tall and broad-shouldered, standing straight with his head held high even in the heat of the day. On his arms he held Luke, who had his arms around the man's neck in a relaxed, loose grip.
That made her loosen up her grip from the prybar just a little. Luke had the gift of knowing when to trust people, even if sometimes that trust overextended itself a little. The man's hold of Luke was, however, also relaxed, which made him a bit more trustworthy to Beru.
The man bend down and placed Luke onto the ground, and by doing so, he gave his face enough shadow for Beru to see him better.
He looked young, if a bit weathered, with some lines already forming on his face, though Beru could tell that they were in places that usually got creased up when someone was constantly concerned about something. There was a long scar running down the side of his face, showing up starkly as the skin around it had tanned more recently. It was the thing that told Beru that the man had not spent too much time on the desert yet, despite his clothes having already been weathered as well, and his footing being even enough on the sand. His dark, curly hair looked like it had only now started to grow out of a very well-maintained shorter cut. Another sign of him being a newcomer.
Still, there was something familiar in him, something Beru couldn't quite place, and she wasn't quite sure if that should've made her relax more or be more suspicious of him.
The man looked at her. His dark eyes were just as weathered as the rest of him, but still kind.
Beru made her decision. She lowered the prybar, and let go of it with her other hand, grabbing at Luke instead.
The man's shoulders lowered a bit as well.
"Excuse me", he said. "I saw your nephew had gotten a bit far away from the house."
Beru looked down at Luke. He looked up at her, and gave her a bit of a sheepish smile.
"Yes", Beru said, and looked back up at the man. "Thank you."
The man nodded.
"No problem at all", he said to her, and then turned to speak to Luke. "Stay where you're supposed to. The desert is a dangerous place."
"But you were there by yourself as well", Luke piped up, not able to resist the urge to talk back just a little.
The man smiled at him. Beru though he had a rather nice smile, even if it was worn down as well. She wondered what kind of hardships he had gone through, out there in the Galaxy, to seem like he had been sanded down by a multiple of storms already.
"I've seen a lot of places that are worse than this, kid", the man said. "I'll be just fine."
He then nodded his head again at Beru, lifted the back of the dark blue cape he had draped over his shoulders over his head, turned around and walked into the desert without another word.
Beru watched him go, ever so slightly confused about the whole interaction. She only moved his eyes away when Luke tugged at her hand.
"Did you know him?" He asked. "I've never seen him before. Not here or in town."
Beru shook her head.
"No", she said. "Did he say anything to you?"
She had not had the mind to even ask the man his name. She looked back out in the desert. He had already disappeared somewhere beyond the dunes.
Luke shook his head.
"He did know you are my aunt", he said. "And not my mom."
True, Beru realised. He had called Luke her nephew, without any introductions.
She decided not to be too alarmed about that. There weren't a lot of people who lived in the area. Chances were that the man had just heard about them already, and remembered who lived in the house.
Still. Not a lot people lived in the area, and even less had any business around there either. On top of that, even though she was more than sure that she had never seen the man before, Beru thought he had looked awfully familiar in some way.
"He seemed nice", Luke said. "He felt nice."
"If you say so, my little sun", Beru said. "Your feelings are often very precise."
She decided not to tell Owen about the man that evening. He would've just gotten unnecessarily worried about it.
----
Beru saw a dark blue cape in the corner of her eye.
When she turned, it wasn't the man from the desert, even if she was sure it was the same cape, with the tattered edges and faded shoulders.
She did know the man wearing it, though. Ben seemed to feel her eyes on him, as he also turned to look at her, and very briefly nodded at her before he went back to dealing with a customer.
Beru thought about it as she went on her business, and she walked back by Ben's stall as she came back.
Ben was already packing up by then, and Beru saw that he had also made purchases, as he was tying some wares that Beru didn't believe he had brought all the way from his house to the town. At the top were a new bedroll, and a pair of boots that even from afar looked too big for Ben's feet.
Beru smiled, before turning away. It really seemed like Ben wasn't alone anymore. That was good.

By the time Jason realized he was down bad for Tim it was already too late.
It was a typical patrol – Poison Ivy had been spotted in the business district, so they spent a couple hours clearing out a particularly nasty batch of carnivorous plants.
Personally, Jason would have been fine with a bunch of C-suite execs getting eaten, but he knew they would just take a work from home day and leave the interns to fight off the giant mutant plants.
He pulled up the last carnivorous seedling, holding it gingerly so it wouldn’t nip at his fingers. He turned to Tim to see if he wanted a new office plant – it might be helpful for the suck-ups at WE – when he saw Tim pull a granola bar out of his boot, unwrap it, and take a bite.
“What are you doing?” Jason asked and Tim looked up, like a deer in the headlights, if the deer had a mouthful of granola bar.
“I’m eating a granola bar,” Tim said with his mouth full, and Jason felt his eye twitch.
“It was in your boot.”
“It was wrapped!” Tim protested. “And I didn’t have room in my utility belt.”
Jason suddenly vividly imagined Tim reaching into his belt for batarang and whipping a granola bar into some goon’s face instead. “Doesn’t the suit have pockets?”
Tim gestured at the red spandex. “Where would I put one?” he asked, and that was – fair. Jason was all-too-aware of the way Tim’s suit left nothing to the imagination. “Can I eat my granola bar now, before my blood sugar tanks?”
Jason squinted, and sure enough, Tim’s hands were shaking a little. “Alfred’s been pestering me about eating before I’m about to pass out,” Tim grumbled.
“I have a better idea, little birdy,” he said. “Let’s get you some protein.”
“It has almonds!” Tim protested again and Jason shook his head.
“You just burned at least a thousand calories and that tiny bar is gonna fill you up for about ten seconds. Come on.”
And that’s how Jason ended up sitting on a rooftop eating chili dogs with Tim, like it was normal to hang out without a case or a debrief.
Tim closed his eyes and moaned at the first bite and Jason blushed, staring at his chili dog. Luckily Tim was too busy eating to notice – he proceeded to eat three chili dogs so fast that Jason wondered when the last time he had a real meal was.
Tim smiled at him, an errant smudge of chili on his lip and Jason felt his cheeks flush. Fuck.
He should’ve known better, but it was too late now. Now he kept beef jerky in the pockets of his leather jacket and took Tim out for chili dogs, or pizza, or the halal carts life-changing gyro after patrols.
It was embarrassing. Jason was too old for a stupid crush on the one person who had the most reasons to hate his fucking guts.
That didn’t stop him from giving Tim a knife “because that’s what you hide in your boot, Tim,” trying to ignore the swell of satisfaction in his chest when Tim laughed and tucked the knife into his boot.
“Do I even want to know how many knives you’re hiding?” he teased and Jason winked.
“More than you could ever find, baby bird.” Tim laughed again and Jason pulled a switchblade out of (one of) his secret pockets, twirling it around while Tim watched, his mouth curving up in a small, fond smile.

ranchers au of the story of a woman who'll marry whoever can get the key off her cats neck
except it's tango, who is a magician of sorts so he's highly sought after, so he comes up with this test of whoever can get the key he'll marry. people start setting traps and whatnot. most of them tango avoids with ease, but he gets caught in one. depressed, he waits for the inevitable downfall.
only, the person who finds him isnt the one who set the trap. a man finds him, and, aghast at the sight, let's tango go. later in town as jimmy recounts this happenstance everyone around him angrily tells him off because he's squandered this perfect opportunity, and this is how Jimmy finds out about the contest.
he thinks the contest is rather upsetting, because how could someone set the whole town against a poor cat like that?
jimmy takes it upon himself to take care of the cat. he listens as people brag about traps so he can find them and dismantle them. he leaves food and fresh water out when he can, and sets up a small shelter for when it rains. he can't imagine that the cat will use it, with it looking so obviously like a trap, but he sets it up anyway.
he gets a rather negative reputation in town because of this. but instead of backing down, jimmy instead snaps back about what kind of person tango must be, to pit the whole town against an innocent animal! because of the pushback from the townspeople he gets rather righteous about his position.
his opinion is cemented further as the cat slowly learns to trust him. sometimes Jimmy rants to the cat about his neglectful and cruel owner.
time passes. many people in town give up on their endeavors. they set traps, but can't afford to check them frequently. they're too busy working. jimmy gains the cats trust and the cat hides in the shelter he built it. eventually, the cat even walks into his home.
jimmy all but adopts this cat, at this point. he feeds it, cares for it, makes sure it's safe during storms and warm on cold nights. the cat hangs around him all the time, the key dangling from its neck. it's startling, the first time the cat jumps on his lap, but jimmy rewards this trust with lots of pets and nothing else.
the cat grows bolder. it bumps it's forehead against jimmy's hand, curls up on jimmy's lap, and yowls for food at the crack of dawn. it leaves the house but never for longer than a day, always returning with an expectant gaze.
Jimmy tries to ignore the key but he grows restless. this tango guy hasn't even asked about his cat, and Jimmy's been caring for it for ages! He knows the key is to tangos house and is only for the winning suitor, but after the weather turns cold and jimmy despairs about how the cat would survive in such extreme weather without help, he takes the key and stomps up to tangos house to give him a piece of his mind.
it's a long, winding path. The cat follows him the whole way, which is odd, since the cat usually only follows Jimmy when he's safe at home. jimmy reaches the house and he knocks first, he has manners, but after no answer he unlocks it and storms in.
only, the whole place is empty. it's clean, someone clearly lives here, but there's nobody home. jimmy deflates. the cat jumps on a large cushioned chair and stares at him.
jimmy slumps over to the cat and pets it, mumbling about what to do next. he does one final sweep of the house (in jimmy's opinion, if tango wanted privacy he wouldnt have put his key on a cat!). and when he turns back to the cat, hands on his hips and ready to announce failure, his cat isn't... there. in it's place is a man with fiery red hair and a smirk firmly upon his lips.
jimmy has his moments of foolishness but he's not dense. he makes the connection. he realizes, and gapes at the man -- at tango, who's been the cat all along.
tango teases him about marriage and jimmy flusters. the two of them finally get to know each other outside of the contest and tango is firm in his reward, announcing it to the townspeople (many of which are furious at Jimmy, loudest anti-tango spokesman around, being the winner).
and jimmy and tango fall in love and live happily ever after the end.
and yes, jimmy is incredibly embarrassed about unknowingly insulting tango to his face. tango, for his part, found it hilarious and it actually endeared him to jimmy, since jimmy was so furious on the cat's behalf.

Do the ROs believe it’s better tho have loved and lost, or to have never loved at all?
I'll answer these in the event of Romanus' death.
To have loved and lost: Hadrian, Lance, Alain, The Pirate King
To have never loved at all: Rafael, Alessa, Neia, Vallen, Ysabella
This is what they believe, not necessarily what's better for them. Rafael and Ysabella would be so devasted by your loss that they'd curse the pain in despair, not realizing, then, that the agony of the moment is simply love left adrift.
Alessa, Neia, and Vallen would be changed by the loss — and not for the better. I honestly fear the kind of people they'd each become.
The others are more emotionally mature. Hadrian would be brought to his knees, but he'd treasure the memories as sacredly as he treasures his cross. Your love would have changed Alain and Lance enough that they would never want to go back — it would be a disservice to you. How can they regret you when you've made them so much better?
And the Pirate is used to loss. You would be a treasured scar he'd wear close to his heart, always hurting but, sometimes, singing too. He'd carry you with him to wherever the sea takes him, knowing that death is never far away. You're waiting in the limbo. The Pirate knows he'll soon join his peach: and you'll find each other in the next life.

Maybe They Fell In Love
"They are dead villain," Civilian urged, "You don't have to worry about it,"
"It doesn't make any sense, though," villain pondered out loud as they walked in restless circles around their coffee table, "Hero is too good to just 'go missing' and there's been nothing but radio silence about them in the criminal world,"
"The agency declared them dead," civilian argued. The announcement had been made over a week ago, and their lover had done nothing but stress about it since.
"Yeah, that means nothing," villain replied, "They are a bunch of liars to begin with, and they don't even have a body for a public funeral,"
"Okay, let's say they did lie. What if hero just quit?" Their lover tried, but the criminal was already shaking their head.
"No, that makes even less sense. Hero didn't have any reason to quit"
"How do you know?" Civilian piped up, "Maybe something happened-"
"They were a HERO!" Villain stressed, "What POSSIBLE reason could they have to quit being a hero?!"
Civilian looked down, fidgeting with the hem of their shirt, "Maybe they fell in love..."
The criminal stopped pacing, turning to face their lover, "excuse me?"
"Maybe..." Civilian started slowly, as if testing the waters, "Maybe they were raised to believe everything was black and white... that villains were just heartless monsters that deserved to be thrown in prison. Maybe they met someone while working undercover who started to... challenge that belief...maybe..." they swallowed nervously, "maybe they started to develop feelings as time went on. Maybe they eventually realized that they were happier with a villain than they ever were at the academy. Maybe they couldn't bare the thought of fighting with the one they loved... so..."
Finally, they dared to glance up, meeting villain's wide, shocked eyes with their guilty ones, "so... I quit..."
