besides cats what are your favourite animals? :)
omg yeah i love all the animals on earth i think my most reblogged animal is literally like the common raccoon which are just normal animals that appear .. outside people's houses. i also am slightly insecure honestly all my favourites are very normal well loved animals but well who care =_=
i mostly like big cats the most which is cheating cuz u said besides cats but all cats have basically been my first ever special interest from since i was but a caterpillar. i like snow leopards the most and then servals
the first guys ever ^ they hold their tails cuz it's just fun they're so cute
little freaks ^ a normal leucistic and melanistic one cuz i also like colour mutations obv WHO DOESNT!!!!
then i also love maned wolves they're like the sisters to servals to me and they're their own special species not very closely related to any other canid which is cool i also love coyotes specifically but wolves are preddy cool too i don't know much about them as much but i will watch any coyote documentary i can and much like foxes things that are considered pests and adapt in unique to urban living are but little angles to me
i also like melanistic kodkods cuz they're like wild herbert and all sharks but especially blacktip reef sharks these are babiess
also like bamboo sharks and nurse sharks. then also deer + orcas + domestic and feral horses + flying foxes which are extra special cuz they're very cute but they also live HERE and scare the dickens out of me when i go outside and they take off it's like a tent flapping in the wind it's crazy. i like tanukis too they're like jelly donuts. i really think most animals are cool and have their own merits and i can appreciate their splenderifousness i find most things cute too i think snakes are like puppies i also think it's cute that shark baby is called a pup that's so true .. and ofc i do like foxes but maybe not as much as people assume LOL i actually like arctic foxes the most☝️ they're so round. i tend to like the scary versions of things too like seals are cute but sea lions rule

Mermaid Lamnidae by David Gaillet
The Lamnidae are the family of mackerel sharks known as white sharks. They are large, fast-swimming predatory fish found in oceans worldwide, though prefer environments with colder water. The name of the family is formed from the Greek word lamna, which means "fish of prey", and was derived from the Greek legendary creature, the Lamia. These sharks have pointed snouts, spindle-shaped bodies, and large gill openings. The first dorsal fin is large, high, stiff and angular or somewhat rounded. The second dorsal and anal fins are minute. The caudal peduncle has a couple of less distinct keels. The teeth are gigantic. The fifth gill opening is in front of the pectoral fin and spiracles are sometimes absent. They are powerful, heavily built sharks, sometimes weighing nearly twice as much as other sharks of comparable length from other families. Many sharks in the family are among the fastest-swimming fish, although the massive great white shark is slower due to its large size.

I’m starting with my first favorite, the Greenland Shark!!
The greenland shark is also known as the gurry shark or grey shark!! Its scientific name is the “Somniosus Mircocehphalus. It is a large shark in the “sleeper shark” family!!

They have the longest known lifespan of all of the vertebrae species!! Said lifespan is estimated to be around 250 - 500 YEARS!!!!! Like holy shit.
Its meat is actually toxic, however when its treated to reduce the toxins its actually eaten as a delicacy in iceland!!
Historically, it has been hunted mostly for its liver oil, that was until synthetic oil was developed. Now it is mostly hunted for its meat.
Some food they eat
Smaller sharks, Skates, Eels, Herring, Capelin, Arctic Char, Cod, Rosefish, Sculpins, Lumpfish, Wolffish, Flounder.
Small greenland sharks mostly eat squid!! ^^

& they r like... doing a shark attack on bea & bea is like 'shan!' & then they both get a lecture about 'spreading selachimorpha misinformation'
The living room is in shadow, lit only by the flickering light of the TV. Beatrice, curled on her side on the couch, runs a thumbnail down the seam joining the front and side panel of the seat cushion beneath her head. On-screen, the camera pans across an empty beachfront, a hint of a dark fin slicing through the water. The soundtrack picks up, and Beatrice's breathing rate escalates in time, watching as two small boats capsize, spilling their occupants into the water. The fin parts the waves like a needle through silk, and the hairs stand up on the back of Beatrice's neck.
Something's changed in the air, she thinks, has sent shivers running down her spine as a man treads water, unaware of the imminent danger closing in on him. Her mouth twists ruefully, her fingers encircling the bareness of her left ring finger and squeezing, twisting.
A creak behind her, the shark driving up out of the water in front, something soft and solid launched over the back of the couch and landing on her. A concerted crow of "Shark!" Beatrice shrieks, then coughs, works her hands up beneath plush fabric to cover her face. She groans, and raucous laughter comes in response.
A heavier object rolls over the back of the couch, lands solidly on her stomach, squirming and giggling. Beatrice cracks her eyes open and reaches out to caress the side of Libby's head.
"Gotcha," Libby bubbles, poking Beatrice in the chest with her tiny stuffed shark.
"You got me," Beatrice agrees placidly. She shoves the larger shark away from her face and dips her head to kiss Libby's forehead. "You think of that all on your own?"
Libby shakes her head, tilts it towards the rear of the couch. "Aunt Shan helped."
"Oh, did she now?"
"Mhmm."
Beatrice taps Libby on the nose. "Your Aunt Shannon should know better than selachimorpha misinformation."
Shannon rises from behind the couch, twisting and turning until her back gives an unsettling crack. "Your Aunt Shannon can't even pronounce seal-chimp misinformation," she replies, ruffling Libby's hair. "And," she continues, turning to Beatrice, "I'm not the one watching the movie that completely altered public perception and fear of sharks."
"I just needed to make my brain stop for a bit," Beatrice sighs, sitting up out of the way as Shannon vaults over the back of the couch and reaches across her for the remote.
"Baba, what's seal-chimp misinfo'mation?"
"Selachimorpha," Beatrice corrects gently, pulling her blanket back around her shoulders. "Selachimorpha misinformation. People telling hurtful lies about sharks." She glances up at the screen as title cards rush past. "Shan, can you look for that BBC show? I can't remember what it's called."
"Shark?"
"Yes, the one about sharks."
"No, I mean it's literally called 'Shark'." She grabs up her shark plush again and presses its snout to Beatrice's cheek. "On it, kiddo."

To start off this blog, check out this record-breaking Lamniform! The eyes can be a dead giveaway to who this guy is- the shortfin mako shark (also known as the Isurus Oxyrinchus (scientific name, named in 1810), bonito shark or blue pointer). Found in offshore temperate and tropical waters, the shortfin mako achieved the Guinness World Record on the 18th November 2011 for the fastest shark in the ocean with a top speed of 60 mph! That's as fast as some UK motorways, so don't expect to outswim them if you're on the run from them.

Subdivision: Selachimorpha
Diet: mostly cephalopods (such as squid, octopus and cuttlefish), seabirds, porpoises and bony fish like mackerels, tunas, bonitos and even swordfish. They catch their prey by jumping up and tearing bits from their sides and fins. Makos swim underneath their prey so they can see above and have a good chance of getting to the prey before it sees them.
Lifespan: 29 years (M), 32 years (F)
Long ago, the Māori people in New Zealand wore necklaces and earrings made from shark teeth. The word "Mako" in their language means either "shark" or "shark tooth." Although longfin makos don't live in the waters around New Zealand, shortfin makos do, especially in the northern part of the country.
