Each breath in and out seared as it passed through Mia’s lungs and throat, the sound of her labored breathing matched only by the pounding of her heart. She knew her parents—and her brothers and sisters, too—could likely hear her struggling up the hill. They were too far ahead on the trail—or what had likely at one point resembled a trail, so much of it washed out by heavy rains and melting snow—by now for Mia to hear the steady conversation of her siblings as they walked ahead, but she knew they would still be able to hear her, able to easily pick out the sounds of her strife from the sounds of the forest around them.
It hadn’t taken long to realize why the trail had technically been closed for the season, categorized as too dangerous for human visitors. Mia was proud of herself for getting this far without succumbing to offers of assistance, even with the difficult trail that went back and forth between a mostly drained out river bed and the forest, causing Mia to be constantly scaling the suddenly steep inclines only to be bracing herself with exposed roots and rocks as she slid back down a few moments later.
None of it gave the others any trouble, even with the muddy conditions caused by the spring thaw, but Mia was already exhausted, some part of her screaming to turn back, or simply give in. To let someone carry her on their back for a bit, allowing her feet and legs and lungs the rest they clearly needed. But Mia knew if she did accede, even if only for a moment, that would be the end of her hike. Once her body had a moment of rest, it would only protest her walking again.
And despite the growing part of her wishing for reprieve, Mia didn’t want to give in, not really. She had known what to expect coming into it. Emmett had gone through the logistics with her and Carlisle beforehand, ensuring the hike was doable, ensuring there wasn’t anything she’d have too much trouble with, and even though Mia was nursing a stitch in her side and barely able to control her breathing or will her feet to pull her forward, she knew the worst was still yet to come.
Her heartbeat spiked at the thought of what still lay ahead, another thing she was sure everyone picked up on, especially Esme and Carlisle, whose gentle footfall was still sounding just behind her, intermingled with their occasional quiet conversation, all of it a deliberate effort made to remind Mia that they were still there, just a step behind if she needed anything.
Mia had tried her best not to need anything though, and she had accepted little more than her father’s hand extended down to help her up one particularly steep incline. He hadn’t even pulled her up, allowing her to use her own muscles to close the distance between them, his hand in hers little more than a bit of leverage. Mia was near certain she would be so sore she could barely walk in the morning—she could already feel the pain settling in—but that was a problem for tomorrow.
One thing at a time, Mia thought to herself as her muscles burned anew, the sudden thinning of the forest’s canopy above her and the faint sound of quiet conversation between Edward and Jasper reminding her that there were more important things to focus on, more imminent concerns.
“Doing okay?”
It was only the third time Carlisle had offered the question throughout their hike, and she knew it was an effort on his part to avoid the temptation to ask after her wellbeing, just as he’d been repeatedly stifling the urge to offer his hand to pull her up steep inclines and to offer his back to give her tired legs a rest. She knew it was an effort for Carlisle to allow her to struggle, to allow her to do things on her own, especially when it so clearly caused her pain.
Mia turned towards her parents, nodding as she briefly met Carlisle’s eye. Her chest was tight enough with each breath that Mia knew if she were to try speaking, any words would only come out as a strangled gasp without the air necessary to support them.
Carlisle nodded in return, and Mia turned around, trudging up the path toward the clearing. Jasper and Edward glanced at her as she arrived, subtle smirks on both of their faces as she dragged her feet to close the final few steps between them.
Mia let out a ragged breath, leaning over with her hands on her knees as her body caught up with the fact that she was no longer walking, no longer plodding up a hill, no longer pushing her limits.
Carlisle held out a bottle of water, which Mia took as she straightened back to her full height. She felt a sharp pain in her side with each big inhale, and she focused on breathing just enough that she avoided the pain.
“The others already went ahead?” she asked, hoping the words sounded at least a little normal and not as though it was a great effort just to speak.
Edward nodded, watching as Mia took gulp after gulp from the water bottle.
“Alice is just crossing,” Jasper said, and Mia pulled the bottle from her lips before following his gaze to the far side of the suspension bridge where Alice was twisting and twirling as if she were on a stage and not a glorified bundle of wood slats held together by cables, all of it a staggering 156 feet above the surging waters below.
Alice, as per usual, seemed entirely unbothered by the risk.
Mia's gaze traveled to the waters below. Even though she had looked at the pictures online…even though she had known all she could know about the trail and the bridge and the river before agreeing to come along, seeing it in-person was something different entirely. Her mouth dried out despite allowing another gulp of water to slip past her lips.
“You want to go next?” Jasper rocked on his feet, leaning over to nudge Mia’s side with his arm. She took a step back, away from the edge that she was nowhere near to begin with, her body responding to some subliminal call to retreat.
“Can I go in the middle?” she asked.
Edward leaned back, revealing a small brown sign with white lettering affixed to a post near the bridge's entry.
RECOMMENDED: ONE PERSON ON BRIDGE AT A TIME.
“Great,” Mia muttered under her breath. “I volunteer myself to go last, then,” she added as she took a few steps before lowering herself to sit on a large rock she imagined had been brought there just for this purpose. For the people who were too scared to cross to have a place to sit and watch the braver members in their party go forge ahead.
“Are you sure?” Jasper asked. “I could—”
Mia cut off the suggestion with a glare and a shake of her head. Anxious as she was about the crossing, she didn’t want Jasper’s brand of help. She didn’t want him to soothe her nerves or sway her mood, tempting as that all was. Jasper didn’t fight her on it, offering a shrug before he turned to begin his journey across.
"See you on the other side."
Mia propped her elbow on a knee and let her head slump into her hand as she watched Jasper disappear over the bridge.
“You sure you don’t want to go next?” Edward asked. “Get it over with?”
Mia shook her head once before turning her attention to pushing her hiking boot through the mud, making a gouge in the ground with the force of it.
“I’ll go next,” Esme said, pressing a gentle hand to Mia’s shoulder as she passed.
Mia watched her mother go, not pulling her eyes away even as she felt Edward’s gaze on her.
“I’m sure you’re making it worse in your head than it’s actually going to be.”
“And how would you know what I’m thinking?”
The words snapped with more force than Mia intended as she turned to look at her brother. Mia knew that she had her mind locked up well enough that Edward couldn’t get in, couldn’t really tell what she was thinking though she was sure he had attempted. Mia had made sure her guards were up and secure today, almost as much of her focus settled there as it was on making sure she didn’t trip and fall.
“My thoughts are none of your business.”
Edward snorted, and Mia waited for either the pseudo lecture or sarcastic comment she could tell was on the tip of her brother’s tongue, but when she looked up, it was clear he was already mid-conversation with someone else.
Carlisle—she presumed—knowing that the two of them frequently engaged that way, especially where she was concerned.
“Fine,” Edward said in response to whatever Carlisle had expressed through his thoughts. “I’ll wait for you on the other side," he added, glancing down at Mia, but Carlisle shook his head.
“I believe your mother would like to walk with you for a while,” Carlisle answered. He nodded toward the other side of the gorge, where Esme indeed still stood, waiting, and whether Esme truly had any particular reason for wanting her son’s company, Mia was grateful to her mother for occupying him, and grateful to her father for suggesting it. Grateful that Edward wouldn’t be permitted the opportunity to follow up on any of their conversation just now.
“You two go on ahead.”
Edward didn't bother responding before he headed out onto the bridge, his feet making swift work of the crossing.
“Your brother means well,” Carlisle said as he slipped down onto the rock beside his daughter.
Mia rolled her eyes, her gaze shifting from her father to watch the brother in question. Edward had by now joined Esme on the other side of the bridge, the time it took seeming impossibly quick, but Mia knew Edward could still hear them.
“I know,” she answered. And she did know. As much as Edward and Mia sometimes grated on each other's nerves, Mia knew her brother meant well. She knew he wanted what was best for her.
Mia pushed her foot through the mud, focusing her gaze there as she spoke. “It’s just amazing how they’re all so overprotective until it’s something I have reservations about, and then they’re all ready to push me off the side of a cliff.”
Carlisle chuckled, knowing that it was partly true.
“They do realize I’m a human being, right?” she said. “Unlike the rest of you, if I fall off that bridge and break my neck, I’m dead.”
Carlisle sighed, and Mia felt the weight of her words. She’d meant it as a joke, or a sort of joke, but the mention of her ever present mortality was a heavy subject. Somewhere along the line, she’d realized that it was heavy for all of them in different ways, but it seemed to be heavier for her father more than any of the rest of them. Mia understood why. She knew that if anything like that were to happen…if her existence hung in the balance somehow…it would be her father’s decision on how they would proceed. It would be her father who changed her or let her go.
Mia released a sigh as she leaned her head against his shoulder, an apology of sorts.
“You’ve done well today.” Carlisle snaked an arm over her shoulder.
Mia snorted, glancing up to him, eyebrow raised. “So have you.”
Carlisle reached for the water bottle she’d discarded beside the rock, holding it out for her as if the compliment she’d spared him just now was akin to giving him permission to dote on her a bit. Mia didn’t fight him on it, accepting the bottle and taking a swig.
“It’s nice here,” Mia mused as she stretched out her legs in front of her. “Maybe we should just sit here and relax and…”
“Is that really what you want?”
Carlisle would’ve been happy to sit there with his daughter for hours, enjoying nature and the peace and quiet. And he was certain that the longer they lingered on this side of the bridge, the better chance they had of letting the others hunt at a more leisurely pace without concern for Mia’s presence, but he could feel the tug of war within his daughter. Could feel that there was some part of her that wanted to face her fear of heights.
Mia shrugged and stood up, taking a step toward the bridge. There was supposedly a small, easy hike to a beautiful view on the other side of the bridge, but…
“It’s a big fall,” she said. "Quite a ways down..."
“It is,” Carlisle agreed, “but the bridge is safe,” he added, as if he knew she was questioning it.
Mia nodded. She knew her father wouldn’t allow her to traverse it if it wasn’t safe, but intellectually knowing that fact did nothing to quell the anxious hormones rushing through her blood stream.
“But it wobbles,” Mia said. She had seen the bridge swaying while the others had crossed. “And it’s very…open.” It was far more open than she had expected, the cables and wood slats offering far less protection and safety than she had expected.
Mia glanced back at her father, waiting for him to contest her observations, but Carlisle only nodded. He wouldn’t lie to her. He wouldn’t deny the truth of her observations. The validity of her concerns about the structure.
But more than Mia was concerned about the structure, she was concerned about her role in crossing. She was afraid that her clumsy nature would somehow result in her falling between the wooden slats. Or that she would somehow succeed at propelling herself over the cable rails.
She knew both were unlikely scenarios, but she couldn’t stop the fear from settling in her stomach.
And she couldn’t stop herself from imagining the most likely of scenarios—that she would simply freeze, stranded somewhere in the middle of the bridge and paralyzed by fear.
She knew she didn't have to do it. No one would force her to cross, and with her siblings gone, no one would taunt or tease or try to convince her either. And Mia knew that deciding that crossing the bridge didn’t serve her and not crossing because of that decision…that could be a form of courage. Standing up for herself in that way would be just as courageous as forging ahead.
She could almost hear her father saying as much though he remained quiet and waiting, not wanting his words to influence her choice. The quiet between them seemed to last an impossibly long time while what seemed like a million thoughts raced through her head each one louder than the last until Mia took a hasty step forward and her mind quieted. She her breath as she moved out onto the bridge. She didn’t want to think about it any longer, or allow herself to claim the courage of saying no to something she didn’t want to do, because though it was easier to stay on this side, deep down she wanted to cross the bridge. She wanted to see the view on the other side. She wanted…
Mia looked down at her feet as she placed the third and fourth and fifth steps down, and with each step it became more difficult to focus on her hiking boot and the wood slat beneath it, her eyes drawn to the rushing waters of river below.
She closed her eyes, hands settled on the cables to her sides, willing her body to still the shaking that had started, willing her foot to take another step, but she was frozen, every part of her resistant to any idea of movement.
Even to get back, she would have to walk. She would have to open her eyes and turn around and…she gulped, her body ramping up at the thought of those things, the doubting thoughts once again growing louder and more insistent.
“Dad…”
The word was barely a whisper. Barely a plea, but Carlisle was there beside Mia in just a fraction of a second, guiding her to breathe, his voice and hands on her shoulders steadying her as her eyes remained squeezed tight.
“I can’t do it. I…”
“You don't want to?”
Mia took a deep breath, her eyes still shut as she considered her father’s question, the way he had effectively sidestepped her assertion, letting it fall away without comment, both of them knowing it wasn’t true.
Both of them knew that there was little truth to Mia’s ‘I can’t do it.’ Crossing the bridge wasn’t a matter of ability, but a matter of desire, and Mia knew her father wouldn’t push her one way or the other. Carlisle would let her decide.
“I don’t know,” Mia answered, taking another slow breath to help loosen the tightness in her chest.
“I’m with you either way,” Carlisle answered. “We can go back or cross together. It's up to—”
“I thought only one person was allowed at a time,” Mia interrupted, remembering the glaring warning sign, as she glanced over her shoulder to look at her father.
Carlisle’s face held an easy smile, a hint of mischief gleaming in his eye as he shrugged.
“I won’t tell if you won’t.”
Mia let out an uneasy chuckle, pulling her eyes from her father to look across to the far side of the bridge.
“Together,” she said, more to herself than anything, as if the word would convince her bones and nerves and muscles to cooperate, but it was Carlisle’s echoing of the word that had Mia taking a hesitant step forward and then another.
“I’m right here,” Carlisle said, his hand finding Mia’s shoulder when she paused a few steps later.
She looked over her shoulder briefly, offering him a nod before she continued on across the bridge, Carlisle's father’s comforting presence just a step behind.

Catharsis - Resident Evil OC Snippets Part 2
Carlisle is a young transgender man that worked at RPD as a receptionist and was recovered from the rubble that fateful night in 1998 after being separated from the rookie cop that had rescued him. Saved by a scientist fleeing the city, the young man is offered the chance of a lifetime--to be involved with experimental rapid and completely transformative testosterone HRT. Carlisle gives himself a new name and accepts to be part of the study, falling in love with His Doctor (Spencer Stevens) along the way and watching as his dreams come true. Things are not always as they seem though, and it seems the good doctor did not have his patient's best interests at heart...and Carlisle soon discovers he is Umbrella's newest BOW experiment. This small snippet is an excerpt of Carlisle's journey after escaping Umbrella captivity and living in hiding with an old friend as they desperately hunt for a antivirus.
My hands cross over his, my nails like sharpened iron, skin rough and hopelessly dry beneath hair so thick it is almost like fur. He is fast asleep, bare chest and small breasts moving softly with each breath, the moon peeking through the blinds making his nipple rings glimmer. I like how he sparkles even when his eyes are closed.
I reach up and brush the hair from his forehead. It's warm. Still a little sick. It's likely from the stress. He told me he used to get them all the time as a kid, both when he was homeless and in his foster homes. He told me it didn't happen too often anymore until after what happened to him in Spain.
My feet hang off the ends of the bed, but I don't care. Gently, I pull him to me. He is well muscled, yet so impossibly soft. Irresistibly soft. He feels delicate in my arms, though I know he's not. I remember the way his eyes shined the night we met in Raccoon City. They don't shine like that anymore. The boy I met that night and the man I lay with are two different chapters. And yet, as my eyes fixate on the soft stubble of his chin, I know it is the same story, a book I am hopelessly lost in.
I'm changing. The doctor who did this to me... He said he wanted to help me. He promised me metamorphosis. I wanted to be a man, but as the days progress I turn more and more into a monster. I was happy with him once...but Leon helped me escape when the doctor became less of a lover and more of an owner. When I became less "future husband" and more lab rat. Leon has kept me safe and hidden in the two years since. Within the past few months, physical changes have begun to happen more rapidly. It makes me sick to my stomach. Leon tries to help me figure out how to cure it, he uses all his resources to try and seek an antivirus, he assures me we'll fix me before the mutation progresses too far, promises that we'll get me proper healthcare and not some "wackjob science experiment".
Leon understands me in a way no one else does. He is...like me. My doctor gave me the word, but Leon gave me the truth. Transgender.
And yet, I feel like it is already too late.
I'm crying without realizing it, fat rivers of tears coursing down my cheeks. I only realize my eyes are closed--imagining the man I could have been...and oh god, the nightmarish thought of living as a woman, of having repressed everything I am forever, but oh fuck, what am I turning into, what the fuck am I going to do--when Leon's hand cups my chin. His hands are tiny and kind against my jaw. He is strong and reassuring, his eyes dark with concern.
I blink against the stream of tears, ready to apologize, but he places a finger to my lips and then pulls me in close. He's so much smaller than me, and yet he feels like my whole world.
He's kept me so safe, and yet...we've never said it. The L word. It terrifies both of us. We sleep in the same bed. But we're not dating. Just saving space. Being economical. When we cuddle or fuck...boredom. Loneliness. Desperation?
Well. I'm desperate at least. Always have been.
I sob into him, let him run his fingers through my hair until I am weak, until I slump down and pull him into the crook of my chest, feeling him relax against the iron wall of my stomach. A thread of hunger pulses through me, and I grit my teeth, angry. I think of the dog from the other day...the thought of all that blood makes my stomach hurt. I try to not think about it at all. I try to focus on calming the predatory beat of my heart, on lowering my blood pressure.
He sighs softly, pressing his back into me, filling up every inch of space between us. "It's going to be okay." He says. He says more, comforting words and promises that ease me into sleep, gentle lullabies that bleed together and make a soft hum as I fade.
I believe him.
I believe him with all my heart, even as my skin starts to split and bloody pus drips onto the wooden floor. I believe even as disgusting red pustules form on my skin, breaking open into weepy new eyes, the sight from my true eyes beginning to leave, bright and painful as looking at the sun. Even as my spinal pain makes it difficult to stand upright. Even as my knuckles drag on the ground like some sort of beast. Even when I begin to lose my mind, when I forget words, when I keep getting bigger and need more and more meat.
Even when I'm losing everything that makes me me, I believe him. He smiles the same way he did that night in 1998. After everything... Even when the light in his eyes is dark, he still smiles. Always something to say. Just the right thing. How can I not believe him?
I believe him until I'm nothing.
I wonder if he still believes?
I don't think I'm waking up this time.

<<<>>>
I was lying there on the ground with my vision gone, but my hearing was still wavering. I couldn’t tell how long it had been since I fell to the ground, flowing in and out of consciousness like a salmon fighting against the different currents of a river. What was strange, though, is that, all of a sudden, it felt like my concerned, even fearful, emotions from the predicament, vanished. Just as those overwhelming emotions subsided, I swear I could hear two angels speaking around me.
Their voices echoed in my head as I listened closely. “I knew there was something wrong; I could tell by her heartbeat” The male angelic creature above me spoke in the smoothest of tones.
“Shush, Jasper! Don’t tell me something I already know,” the silky voice of the other angel, or more so the voice of what seemed like a gentle fairy, replied with a somewhat playful hint to her language.
“She’s fainted, but her heartbeat, nor her breath, has evened, we need to grab her.”
“And take her where, exactly?” The girl questioned her partner.
“To Carlisle.”
“He’s still at the hospital on shift, right?”
“I believe so.” The conversation ended with his last spoken thought and I could feel the strong, yet freezing grip of one of them. My limp body was being picked up bridal style. After I was adjusted, I could barely tell we started moving. It was swift with what felt like the speed of an airplane; it was inhuman. “You’ll be alright, trust us…”
“Are these people truly angels? I mean I’m not even goddamn Christian, but there's no other explanation of the speed, the coolness of their skin… I feel as if I’m flying, so it must be… right?” I thought to myself as I slipped away completely.

I woke up to the blinding fluorescents on the ceiling of a hospital room and my overacting, dramatic aunt talking to a pale, gorgeous doctor with almost albino-like blond hair.
“Winnie?” I cleared my dry throat.
My aunt responded with a gasp, “Amy! My beautiful, beautiful, fantastic niece, Amy! You’re alright!” She ran in, giving me a long, tight hug, yet, thankfully, the doctor interrupted her gushy scene with an uncomfortable clearing of his throat.
“Hi there, Amelia, I’m sorry I didn’t get the chance to introduce myself earlier, I’m Dr. Cullen, but Carlisle is fine,” he reached out his hand for me to shake, which I happily took. “It seems your blood sugar was high which is common to occur at times for people with type one diabetes such as yourself. From now on, please remember to take your insulin,” he ended with a small smile. “You are free to check out whenever you feel ready,” then, he left the room.
“Hey, Winnie, before we check out, I have a quick question, how did you find me..?” I shared a quizzical expression.
“Oh, I didn’t, Amybear. Two of your classmates found you. How sweet of them, don't you agree?” She seemed as giddy as usual when she answered my question.
<<<>>>
I told Winnie that she could go on ahead and I’d meet her at the front desk. I gathered my things and headed down the hall in search of my two mysterious rescuers. I saw two classmates of mine, talking to each other in the corner of the hall. I shielded myself with a brave face and gulped as I approached them.
“Hi, you may not remember me, but I’m Amelia, I have History with you,” I locked eyes with the honey-haired man in front of me. “And I’ve seen you around as well,” I acknowledged the girl too.
“Yes, you’re right we do,” he gave the slightest of smirks to me, “I’m Jasper. Nice to meet you, Amelia.”
I gulped once more as I noticed the deeper, drawn out tone he used while referencing my name.
“Oh, I know!” The burgundy brunette held my hand in hers as she giggled. “I’m Alice, I’m so happy to finally meet you!”
I noticed her ice-cold touch, yet I decided to cut to the chase; there was a reason I approached them and I wasn’t going to forget that.
“Uhm… well… you see, u-uh…” they stared in wait for me to spit it out. “Well…” I took a deep breath and blurted it all out, “I heard the people who found me were classmates and I you two are the only class mates I see around so I was wondering if you were the ones that helped me?” I gasped in a big gulp of hair when I finished rushing out those words.
Jasper responded with his simple smirk while folding his arms over his chest, on the other hand, Alice nodded cheerfully.
“Well, then, uh… I guess a thank you is in order, so thank you, I highly appreciate it.” I turned to walk away, back towards the front desk where Winnie was waiting, when I was stopped by a hand on my wrist. I felt a rush of adrenaline strike me like lightning through every cell in my body. The electric pulse I felt radiating from her grip on my wrist made me blush, yet I couldn’t quite tell why, at least not in that moment. I turned around to face my holder.
“Hey, you should sit with us at our lunch table from now on! I mean it didn’t look like you had anyone to sit with anyway.” She smiled innocently.
“Wow, what a way to word it. Yes, I don’t have friends yet, you didn’t have to point that out!” I thought to myself with discomfort.
“Alice!” Jasper snapped at her almost immediately, “basically she’s saying that we’d both like it if you could join us at our table, darlin’.”
I just nodded in response, noting the odd sensation that radiated from him. It was like my emotions of uncomfortability and discouragement from deep inside my core just vanished and a sudden contentment filled that empty space. I snapped out of it… Then, I waved to them as I started walking towards the front desk to check out.

RQOTD: What changes transform your OC(s) as they age? Are they hindered by health problems? Do they hate/love life? Did they have a bucket list and did they ever complete it? Why or why not? Feel free to answer and/or forward this to more people! uwu
This is such a sweet/sad ask, because obviously life is full of hardship and triumph, no matter who you are.
heavy story spoilers below
I’m still working through a lot of details of everyone’s middle age through old age, and some of them I’ve not even thought about yet (like Dylan or even Ivy).
The Carlisles have blood pressure issues that are partially genetic, partially trauma-informed, so River especially will take preventative measures early (his father died of a heart attack, and the Duke will eventually succumb to a stroke, so I imagine he’d be careful). Ro, despite smoking from 2012-2020, won’t suffer residual effects outside of getting winded more easily as he ages.
I made a joke about this in the comments on one of my posts, but I absolutely think River would probably have hip replacements later in life for exactly the reasons we’d think. (read: bangin and skateboardin)
Holly will go through a time of really hating life for awhile as she ages, for reasons I won’t go into here.
The lads will, on the whole, have a great life, outside of your run of the mill grief due to death and hardship (Agata won’t live forever, and neither will their parents! fuck life is sad), and also stressful political movements, but their family life will always so solid that they’ll be able to weather those outside stressors. I meant it when I said “happily ever after.” The gays deserve it, and they will have it.
I don’t think Rivro would have a bucket list because their lives are already bizarre and they’ll be privileged enough to be able to experience a lot of fascinating things, but I totally imagine that Zoe and [redacted] will have one, and get pretty damn close to completing it before they’re old ladies!

Rue: Chapter 2 (A Jasper Hale x OC Imagine)
Old scars are reopened. And one day, we all will have to choose. To continue living a lie, or wake up and face the truth.
“I’m telling you, she’s just like me.” Renesmee pouted as she rode on Jacob’s strong sturdy back. The wolf only snorted. “It’s true!” Renesmee pouted even more at Jacob’s snort. “Here let me show you.”
Warm and tender hands cupped her face, a relaxing floral scent mixed with the smell of damp earth, steel blue eyes that sparkled in the sun and the daisies and leaves braided into chocolate tresses. “You must take care, Child.”
Jacob grunted in response.
“See, she’s a sweet lady who was just passing by. And the lot of you scared her away!”
“There’s not many like you out there, Renesmee.” Edward sighed. “We couldn’t be too careful now. The Volturi may have given up last time, but there’s no saying when they’ll be back. Or if this lady was not here for some unknown reason to hurt you intentionally-“
“Daddy!”
“And how would you explain her appearance so suddenly?”
“We found each other!” Renesmee exclaimed in excitement. “It was destiny!”
“Now you’re just sounding like your Aunt Alice.” Edward chuckled.
“Mommy.” Renesmee turned to Bella then. “When do you reckon I’ll see Adeline again?”
Bella titled her head slight and pretended to give it some thought. “Maybe when she’s ready? I’m sure she’ll come see you again if she means to.”
“There’s so much I want to show her and talk to her with.” Renesmee sighed with longing, her little heart beating even faster in excitement at the potential of gaining a new friend. Especially a hybrid like her! “I want to see again already.”
Edward and Bella shared a cautious look.
“I’m sure you will soon enough.”
“Tell us about that kind lady-”
“Adeline.”
“Tell us about Adeline again.” Carlise smiled encouragingly at Renesmee as she stretched out her hand towards him.
Renesmee was alone in the clearing, twirling around giggling at the fluttering butterflies around her. She knew she was safe, her family was around hunting, and Jacob was nearby. There really was no reason to be afraid. It was then when she heard a soft whispered from behind. Panicking she spun around on her heels, ready to call for her family. But the sight that greeted her set her into complete shock.
Standing at the edge was a woman, young and beautiful, heartbreakingly so, probably the most beautiful woman she’d ever seen. Rosy lips parted in awe, steel blue eyes with golden flecks in the centre that somehow radiated warmth, golden freckles over the apples of her cheeks. Her chocolate brown tresses were braided on the side loosely, with daises and heathers woven into it; and that lovely fragrance, she smelt of flowers and damp earth after the rain. She could hear her quick pulse, and that glowing skin-
Renesmee gasped, making the connection at once.
She was a hybrid.
“I wonder what her motive was.” Carlisle pondered, interest piqued. “There aren’t many of her kinds out there, the only ones we do know are Nahuel and his family. And she certainly didn’t seemed to be from the same family…”
“So there could be more than even the Volturi was aware of?”
“But then what of her motive?” Esme asked. “If she had planned to visit us, she would’ve showed up right at our house. Not trying to ambush Renesmee out in the open…?”
“She could be just a nomad passing through?” Rosalie shrugged. “I mean it doesn’t happen everyday but it does happen.”
“But she kept mentioning her maker.” Edward pointed out. “You’d think she came from a large family by the way she spoke.”
“Ughh! I can’t see her at all, it’s so foggy.”
Alice sighed in annoyance and flopped on the couch next to Jasper who only smirked understandingly at her.
“It’ll come.” He smiled and rubbed her hand comfortingly.
“Perhaps we should take turns and be on guard for the next few days.” Carlisle exerted his caution nevertheless. “Renesmee show the others how Miss Adeline looks will you?”
Renesmee nodded and went around the group. It was when she came to Jasper that something happened. Jasper had grown eerily still after an audible gasp, frowning before abruptly standing, eyes shifting everywhere, fists clenched nails digging into his own skin, shoulders tense.
The room had gone quiet, Alice hoovered closely a look of worry on her face. “What is it?” She asked carefully, trying her best to conceal the worry in her voice. Even Edward had gone rigid, his face slowly morphing into shock as he registered Jasper’s inner thoughts.
“Are you certain?”
“I need… I need to…” Jasper mumbled, seemingly in a trance. Then he barged right out of the window and into the greenies at the back of the house.
“I’ll go with him.” With one last sweep, Edward darted out of the house following closely behind Jasper.
The Cullens eyed one another uncomfortably, unsure of what had just transpired in the span of five seconds. Bella reached out to squeeze Alice’s hand encouragingly, as if she unknowingly needed the strength.
Emmet laughed nervously to break the tension in the room, none the wiser.
“Old flame maybe?”
“Jasper.”
His insides was in a turmoil as Jasper raced towards the clearing; his mind a chaos and he couldn’t think straight except-
Adeline.
Could it really had been her? 150 years later? It all seemed laughably lame. How could anyone live 150 years and not age? Unless you were a Vampire then, or a hybrid apparently. But he was so sure his sweet Adeline was not. Could not be a monster like him, not even by half-
But those eyes, a cooler shade of cornflower, specks of gold that glinted in the Texan sun.
“Jasper!”
He’d run his hand through those silky tresses every day by the river as she napped with her head in his lap; and then every night in bed; secret rendezvous that would shock the entire town and disgrace their family name had they known.
Adeline Ruelle.
“Major Whitlock.” She drawled flirtatiously, voice dipped in honey, head on her shoulder as she gazed at him slyly, her loose locks tumbling down her back. Her delicate hand reached out to muss up his hair roughly. “I kind of like the sound of it.”
“Well Mrs Whitlock.” He snatched her hand and laid a single kiss over her ring finger. “Then you shall hear it again and again.”
“Jasper wait up!”
She’d leaned in to steal a kiss from his lips, and he had chased her back to bed with more.
“Jasper Whitlock wait up!”
Edward’s bellows snapped him from his reverie. Jasper turned to his brother’s concerned eyes.
“Talk to me, Jas.” He studied his brother worry permanently etched onto his features. “It’s not like you to run out of the family. Alice is worried. Everyone is worried.”
Funny, even Alice had somehow slipped out of his mind. So transfixed was he on his lost love.
“Are you very sure, Jasper?”
Jasper glared into his brother’s golden eyes. “I’ve never been more sure.”
“You’re hesitating.”
“It’s just… If you’ve ever seen her, then you’d know. You wouldn’t be able to forget her. She was the most dazzling sun in the whole of Texas. Her look, her… her eyes. And her voice. The way she holds herself.” Jasper spun around in a frenzy. “It has to be her…”
“And for her to reappear again now. She’d have to be something immortal. Like us. Is that what you want to say?”
He was at a lost of words, he had ran out the moment he saw her. But what if it wasn’t her? It had caught him by surprise, chilled him to the core that she could be out there all this time and he had not known… Had not really stopped to think of the implications of it all…
“I don’t know.” He finally muttered in defeat. “But suppose she was her or her offsprings or…” They might know more about her, what happened, perhaps finally giving him the peace of mind he needed.
“Brother.” Edward comforted. “I’m not saying we know who or what she is. All I’m saying is, you need to get a grip of yourself first. Let us help you find her, if it really is her I’m sure she’ll have no scruples to see you. Hell for all we know she could just be a doppelgänger.”
Jasper had to laugh at this, the tension lines easing slightly.
“Hell, doppelgänger?”
“Shall we trace her scent first? If she went West, she could be all the way into Seattle by now, and it sure as hell won’t be an easy task to trace her in there.”
“Edward…” Jasper stuttered, tripping over his tongue to find the right words. “I- Thank you. Thank you for everything.”
“What are families for?” Edward grinned, relived to finally see the Jasper he was used to.
*
“Come Adeline.”
“Come hold your brother,” Father beckoned towards her in the shadow of the house. “He tore through his mother’s womb just to see you.”
“No…” She wanted to run, to scream, but no word came out of her. She was stunned in her position by the blood stench.
Father walked towards her in slow deliberate step, a white bundle in his arms, thrusting it into her unwillingly arms. “Take him.”
In her arms laid a small babe.
His hair matted with dried blood and he grinned Cheshire like at her.
“Bring him out so that your sisters may see him.”
Gingerly, she stepped out of the threshold and into the twilight. Watched as her sisters danced in the pure white, each with arms around a man. And in unison, bit into their jugulars, tearing at the arteries beneath, fresh blood spurting out in fountains.
She was drenched from head to toe in crimson.
Hyperventilating.
She needed togotogotogotogotogotogo-
“Rejoice!” Father bellowed from behind, as her sisters continued to devour their chosen meal. “For the house of Elwyn welcomes a son!”
She was going to be sick.
She opened her mouth to let out a silent scream.
And scream she did.
Terribly loud.
Except she was also underwater. Choking on icy cold water. Pushing herself up from the tub, she broke the surface and gasped for air. Coughing out the residue of her nightmare.
Great just great. Of all the things she could dream of, why had she dreamt of that now?
The underwater was her sole consolation and safe place for years and even now it was invaded by her despicable dreams.
Perhaps, perhaps Adeline had been on the run for too long. She needed a habit, a set of routines, something to ease her nerves. She needed a memento, something to ground herself to on a daily basis.
Something to remind her that she was still partly human in this insanity.
1pm, downtown Vancouver.
She’d been here 20 years ago. And now she’d come on a detour to retrieve something from her past.
Stepping inside the bank quickly, she made a beeline for the counters.
Adeline smiled enthusiastically at the man behind the counter.
“Hello, I’d like to open my mother’s safe.”
“I’m sorry do you have her delegation? We don’t-”
“She died recently.” Adeline smiled again. One thing she picked up over the years was that, conversations of the dead was extremely uncomfortable and humans struggled to get out of it as soon as possible. “Tragic yeah I know. It was a freak accident. So now me and my sissy are gathering her things and for the funeral-”
“Just a moment ma’am.” The lady turned around with lightning speed. “If you could just show me her death certificate?”
“Yeah sure, here.” She slid the fake certificate she made in the library with a little glue and photocopy. Amazing what you can do with just two dollars nowadays. “Thank you!”
Half an hour later, Adeline was on the next train towards the Yukon plain.
A single silver locket hung over her throat; its cap embellished by intricate floral carvings. And as she fingered it gently, her eyes closed as she settled in her seat, a sense of peace washed over Adeline one she had not shared in for a very long time.
*
“Did you find her?” Carlisle asked when the two returned.
Jasper passed by in a huff without even so much as a greeting and went straight for his room. Everyone could feel the frustration lingering in the air; Alice immediately got up from her perch by the window and trailed after the sulking man.
Edward simply shook his head.
“So was she really an old flame of his?” Emmett chirped on the side and Rosalie whacked him right on the chest, glaring at the brunette and silently admonishing his insensitiveness.
Sharing worried glances, the Cullens each harboured their own questions in the meantime, unsure when was the right time to broach it.
“Jasper.”
“Jasper talk to me.”
Alice’s desperate pleas finally broke him from his trance. “Alice.” She was kneeling before him, face close to his, her hands hoovering, unsure where to place. Even Alice was worried about him now. His lover, the one who had been his brick and stone since their first meeting. Though they were not mates, like Bella and Edward were, they had pledged to be with each other, as long as the other was willing. But now for the first time he realised, he had not been fair to his sweet lover all these time.
Had she knowingly anticipated this? Jasper suddenly thought. Had she seen this in one of her visions? And still decided to show up in that little diner just to find him? If so Jasper held nothing but respect and love for the little pixie. Her pure heartedness, her kindness. Always giving and never asking for anything in return. And he in return had withheld this one truth from her all these years.
Speaking had never been his best forte. Tiresome as it can be, right now he needed to tell her the truth. He owed her this one truth.
Mechanically he walked into the next room with Alice by his side, and he went to open one of the safes. Producing from it a simple inlay box.
“Open it.” He nudged her gently, gestured for her to open the lid. “Look inside.”
Shooting him an amused look, Alice carefully lifted the lid and gasped. Inside was a number of mementos Jasper had harboured over the years. The largest was centred in the middle, a framed sepia portrait of a girl in a simple blouse with a modest pair of pearl earrings. Curls held in a loose half do, showing off her heart shaped face and that brilliant smile, transmitting warmth and sweetness through the portrait.
“Her name was Adeline Ruelle.”
“Well the resemblance is certainly… uncanny.” Alice murmured.
“Didn’t see that coming did you?” He had to chuckle at that.
Alice narrowed her eyes playfully and swatted his in the chest. “You know I can’t see hybrids and shapeshifters well!” No Alice wouldn’t have seen this because she would be looking at a blindspot; and he wouldn’t have thought this was possible because he’d long since accepted that his lost lover was dead. A century and a half ago.
Jasper mouth dried, figuratively, when Alice moved to take the velvet pouch next. He winced as he gently shook the pouch, tumbling the diamond ring into her ready hands.
“I… I proposed to her you know. Once, a long time ago.”
Alice trained her gaze back on her lover as he swallowed hard, ready to tell part of his truth.
“She’d moved with her Grandmama from Louisiana a year or two back, dressmakers and strictly French. We were to be wed in the Town Hall on the Summer solstice when the war was over. She could never had her gown picked because I know… she didn’t want to spend even a dime more of my money. The ring already costed me a fortune she said. She’d taken to hand sew her own dress for her wedding day with her grandmother. She was just that sweet.” Here Jasper chuckled in nostalgia, but then his eyes grew sad again. “I would’ve given her the world if I could, but I was only a Major then. And…”
“Towards Christmas, when I came home for a visit. Something had happened during my absence, she had grown distant. Always startled, by the smallest sound, a change in the wind. I thought it was only wedding nerves, but really I should’ve seen it then.” His lips tugged into a self-depreciating smile. “She could never have wanted me.”
“Stole away in the dead of the night, left only a note and her ring. Asked me to give it to another woman when I met one.”
“I just…” Jasper ran a hand through his in frustration. “How do you ask the man you supposedly loved to hand your wedding ring to another woman? Just like that?”
“You loved her with all your heart.”
“Damn right I did.”
“Oh Jasper.”
“Broke my heart, that one did. ” He whispered. Thought I could’ve gotten over her with you here. Was what was left unsaid.
Alice pursed her lips and looked away.
“What would you do if she really is the same person?”
He gave her a pointed look. “Hey it could really be a case of wrong identity, similar face, different person.”
“I…” Shifting uncomfortably, Jasper shrugged. “But if I never find her then I’ll never know.”
“You might still have your chance with her.”
“Alice…”
Suddenly he was sure of nothing anymore.
He really should hate her; here was a love built from the foundation, firm, safe, something he had known for years, depended on. Saved him even. Could he gamble all this for someone who’d broken his heart in a heartbeat all those years ago?
“The heart wants what it wants. Jasper.”
“We never promised each other anything Jasper, except that we’ll be there for each other. We’re not mates, remember?”
Of course he remembered. But you didn’t need a mate to live a good enough life, didn’t need to reopen scars that no one had interest in seeing. That the perpetrator herself may not even had an interest in to begin with.
“Alice we’re ok, we’re enough.”
Alice only smiled sadly, knowingly. Sometimes he hated that knowing look, as if she was hiding secrets from him, knew that he was destined to fail.
But then, he had been hiding secrets from her too, hadn’t he?
“It’s alright.” Alice soothed, “we’ll find her. Then we can decide from there on what to do.”
“We’ll find her, just you wait.” She promised with a loving kiss to his forehead.

Fire in my Blood ~ Jasper Hale x OC ~ Book One: Chapter Six
Chapter One / Chapter Two / Chapter Three / Chapter Four / Chapter Five
I had never given much thought as to how I would die, I thought that two years ago I was going to die as wolf bait and as weird as it was I never expected to end up being a bloodbag. I was gonna have a husband (or a wife, you never know who you meet) and kids and we were gonna be that family that was close and joked together. I was going to live in New York City and watch the ballet at The Met. And I was gonna live my life to the fullest. But instead I was writhing in agony on a wooden floor, drifting in and out of consciousness as a see of auburn hair flashes in and out of my view. I couldn't hear anything but the blood roaring in my ears and my screams were slowly dripping into whimpers. Everything was getting fuzzy and I felt cold. My brain felt like cotton and I couldn't see anything, it was all dark, but I could hear and feel what was going on around me to a degree. I heard Bella, she wall calling my name and shaking me, then she was screaming and crying out and the only thought in my mind was 'I need to get to Bella, I need to save her.'
My attention was shifted to the cold hands that brushed the hair off my face gently and slowly caressed my cheeks and the last thing I felt was the room get hot, like someone had lit a bonfire, but I was slipping,
Falling into darkness.
Bella woke up in a hospital room to the sight of her mother sitting on her bed, her face was tear tracked and she was staring off into space, it wasn't until Bella shifted her body that Renée let her eyes fall on her youngest and she looked relieved that Bella was alive.
Hearing the cover up that the Cullens had created that Bella fell down two flights of stairs and out of a window made it very hard for Bella to keep a straight face, but she managed to keep her cool and noticed Edward in the corner preteding to sleep, this made a smile crawl onto her face before her mind caught up with her and she asked where Alessia was.
Renée began to cry and that scared Bella because their mother never cried. "Mom, what happened?" Bella whispered softly.
Renée wiped her eyes before staring at the floor and beginning to explain the older girls absence. "Bella, after you left your dad's place Alessia went to get your friend Alice's car and drive after you. She wanted to try and convince you to stay in forks so she followed you to Arizona, but there was an accident." Renée began to sob once more but she fought through it to continue her explanation. "They found her car 50 miles out from Vegas, it was wrapped around a streetpole and they couldn't find her body." The sobbing doubled and she had to fight to whisper "She's gone Bella."
Alessia wondered if changing feels the same for everyone, because she had always imagined it would be painful, like her blood would begin to feel like acid and that her muscles would spaz out and that she would be trapped screaming in her head.
Instead it was cold, like there were sewing needles made of ice slowly stitching her insides together again with frosty thread.
It almost felt nice, comforting, like when its a particularly scorching hot day and you sit beneath a tree in the shade, that cooling feeling that almost felt like it was healing you, everything was still dark, and she couldn’t hear anything anymore, it was like she was floating in an icy cold abyss, but she wasn’t afraid at all...
It just felt strange.
Renée left the room after Bella was given the news, wanting to give her daughter the time to process the loss of her older sister. Edward was awake and at her bedside as soon as the door clicked shut watching his girlfriend process what she had just been told. Bella turned to him and asked clearly and quietly “What actually happened?”
Edward took her fragile, warm hand in his own cold one and gave her the full truthful answer, that Alessia took off from the hotel when Alice, Jasper and Bella went to find some food for the two girls and when Bella arrived at the ballet studio after her sister Alessia was already on the floor screaming from the vampire venom in her system. They had assumed that James had gotten to her first and by the time anyone was able to get to her Edward was busy trying to remove the venom from Bella’s arm, and Carlisle went to help Alessia but by that point her heart had already given out and the change was occurring.
“Jasper flew into a rage and he and Emmet tore James apart before Alice threw the pieces into a fire, not that there was much left to throw in.” Edward chuckled looking Bella in the eyes, “She is changing Bella, Jasper hasn’t left her side, they are back home right now but the next time you see her she will be one of us.” Bella let out a sigh of relief “So she isn’t gone?”
“No Bella, but to your parents she has to be dead, they can never know the truth.”
Waking up was always a weird concept to Alessia, she never liked how easy it was to go from completely unconscious and unaware one second and in an instant being awake and every sound and colour and smell is suddenly available to you like someone flipped a switch, it was weird. If that was what she thought waking up as a human was like then waking up that afternoon was like that feeling on crack. light was streaming through the open windows to her right illuminating every single speck of dust in the air above her, every colour in the room suddenly attacked her eyes, it was overwhelming and when she tried to sit up she had clearly moved too quickly because she ended up launching herself onto the floor. Laughing at her sudden uncoordination she let herself slowly come to her feet and look around. She was in the Cullen's home, this was Carlisle's home office that held his desk and medical books and a cot near the window. Looking out into the woods she could see everything like it was thought a microscope lense, the sounds were clear and she could hear the river that was over a mile away. The creaking of the door opening brought her attention and turning her head she saw Jasper in more vivid detail than she ever had before. His honey blonde hair fell in his perfect curls and his amber eyes locked onto her own ruby ones. She ran to him, nothing but a blur to the eyes before she was stood just in front of him, her hands slowly tracing his own. Delicate, icy fingers traced the scars and bite marks on his arms and one of his rested on the top of Alessia's collarbone where her own scars began. The silence was broken by his soft voice, quiet so as not to overstimulate her now overworked senses. "Good morning princess."
If Alessia were still human the sound of his words would have had her crying silent tears on the spot because of how it cut through the static of everything going on in the world around her that was all she could hear, his voice was clearer than before, and it sounded like music. Looking up into his eyes was a welcome distraction from the other visuals all fighting for her brains attention. The gold was a rich colour, like starlight, the light made it look like his irises held fire in them and the flecks in the gold looked like they were moving. "Beautiful." Was what slipped from her mouth, but as soon as she opened her lips to speak it opened the floodgates and suddenly her throat was ablaze. Her hand gripped her throat and she must have seemed panicked because her now familiar blanket of calm washed over her and the man in front of her grabbed her hand to bring her to the now open door to the balcony. "You must be starving" he muttered looking at her fondly, watching the sweet look on Alessia's face turn hungry.
Nothing else could interrupt the signals her mind was sending her body, she needed to run, to hunt, to feed. Running felt different now that she couldn't get tired. It didn't feel like something that she dreaded because she was late for her next class, she was running because that was what she did now, in her new life she was a hunter. Hearing birds above her wasn't the same as it used to be, she could hear their song, their movement, their heartbeat. Her appetite was enough of a distraction for Jasper to overtake her with a laugh and she snapped her attention back on him with her own smirk before sprinting ahead through the trees matching his pace shoulder to shoulder until a sound made her stop dead in her tracks. Her head snapped to her right and she could see across the river the very wolf that she hated the most, Sam was staring at her silently, observing the new form that she took. Jasper's hand on her waist did nothing to quell the staredown between the two supernatural beings. "He can't hurt you here anymore, they can't hunt on Cullen land and you are one of us now", he whispered in her ear sending a shiver through her body. "That and in your state right now, you could probably crush his ribcage without much effort."
The thought made Alessia smirk, she was by no means a violent person, but this bastard had made two attempts on her life at that point so the thought of her getting her crack at it didn't make her upset at all. Letting out her own snarl caused Sam Uley to turn and run back through the trees, and that made her smile, she had power now, she didn't have to be afraid anymore.
A deer stumbled upon a creek just south of where the two were standing, and Alessia could smell it, she could hear it's blood pumping and without a look thrown towards the Cullen next to her she took off, quick as lightning, and with one snap of her jaw her teeth sank into warm fur and flesh. The liquid that poured down her throat was like water cooling a fire, it was euphoric the taste and feeling of finally quenching the thirst that has been building since she was bitten in Phoenix.
The light stepping back onto the balcony of the house brought her out of one life and into the next, looking around she spotted a mirror along one of the walls and felt a certain nervousness pull her unbeating heart. She gripped Jasper's hand and guided him along behind her to look at them in the long glass frame. Ruby red eyes now held streaks of the Cullen's familiar golden colour and the skin that was once tanned and freckled was now snow white and unblemished, like a dolls. Her hair was a darker, richer brown, like melted dark chocolate and her frizzy ends that fell to her mid back were now gone, in their place was sleek locks that fell into a natural curl at the small of her back. The dress she wore was thankfully one she recognised from her own closet, the vibrant yellow warmed her physical appearance and it reflected the warmth in her smile that now showed her perfect white teeth, lifting her wrist her small fingers traced the large white scars that began just under her collarbone and they followed them down to the top of her dress, they weren't ugly though, not anymore, in fact nothing about her looked ugly. It made sense being that if vampires were meant to hunt humans they should look beautiful, attractive to their prey. Looking at Jasper behind her he wrapped his arms around her while she ran her fingers through his own golden curls. "I take it you feel better then?" He asked smiling down at her, her affection clearly welcome as his head unconsciously leaned into her touch. "Oh yeah, much better", she whispered guiding his head down to her own. Kissing Jasper felt like she was walking into the sun, her body felt warm and her mind felt like she could be at peace, it was safe and happy, he felt like home. A knock on the door led them to pull apart and as much as Alessia clearly didn't want to, her distaste shown in the whimper she let out at the loss, her face lit up when it was Alice who came through the door. Her hug was met with warning to take it easy. "You are very strong right now darlin', wouldn't want to break Alice now would we?" Jasper said laughing at the tongue that met him while Alessia continued to hug the girl, albeit a little bit softer than before. Following behind Alice the decent down the stairs brought the two face to face with the rest of the Cullen family. Esme was the first on her feet to give her newest family member a hug and kiss on the head, "Welcome back darling, you look beautiful." Emmet and Rosalie gave her similar warm welcomes as the huge man spun her around unleashing a giggle out of the smaller Swan girl. "I'm so glad I don't need to worry about breaking you anymore" came his own joyful remark and Alessia raised her brow before retorting that she was in fact informed that she is actually in danger of breaking him. The laughter in the room broke out and the last person she had yet to see stood before her. Carlisle looked her over with his smile and pulled her into his arms, wrapping one around her back and the other around her head. "We've been waiting for you Alessia, Alice saw you coming when I first met you in the hospital, by then it was just a matter of time." He said fondly releasing her from his hold, his own smile meeting her warm grin before what he said made a cloud of confusion covered Alessia's face. "What was that about Alice ?"
It took a while to explain to Alessia that some vampires have powers, that Edward could read minds (she was not at all happy that he had been snooping around her brain without permission, Alessia was gonna drag him by the ears next time she saw him) or that Jasper could manipulate emotions (that explained the calming thing he liked to do with her), but nothing could calm her excitement when Alessia learned that Alice could see the future.
The brunette felt at home in the Cullen living room laughing with her friends, her chosen family. Getting used to her new state of being was easier with them around. Jaspers arm locked around her waist keeping her grounded while she held a conversation with Carlisle about his work at the hospital. Her mind wandered while her eyes darted around the room, “Where is Bella?”
The silence filled the room as the Cullens looked amongst each other, not sure who should be the one to tell the girl about the situation with her family. It was Carlisle who eventually took her hand and lead her up the stairs back into his study where she had woken up that afternoon. The younger girl sat on the table in the middle of the room while Carlisle stood before her, ready to tell her just how strained the situation was.
“When you disappeared from the hotel we were already on our way to Phoenix to help you, James was still chasing you and while we had managed to distract Victoria for a time she quickly caught on to the fact that it was Rose and Esme wearing your clothes, she disappeared too. while we were on the road a few miles away we got a call from Alice, you were missing and they didn’t know where you went. Jasper was furious because he knew James had taken you. Bella was the first one to get to the ballet studio but by then it was too late. You were already fading in and out of consciousness and your thighs were littered with bites,” this admission caused Alessia to look down where she could see the white marks poking out from the hem of her dress. “James bit Bella before she could get to you and by the time we got there the damage had already been done, we could save Bella, but your heart had already stopped.”
The blank stare in Alessia’s eyes gave no recognition as to weather or not she was actually hearing everything she was being told. it wasn’t until she muttered out her own question that Carlisle knew she had even heard any of what was said. “Is Bella safe?” at the end of the day what was what mattered to her. “She is fine, we got the venom out of her system in time and she got out of the hospital last night. Alessia you have to understand that we can’t let your parents know that you are changed, Humans are not meant to know anything about vampires or our world, If they find out about you they could be in serious danger.”
The weight of what the man in front of her was trying to tell her finally began to settle on her soul. Vampires can’t cry, but my god did she want to. “Alessia they think you are dead... and that’s what is keeping them safe.” There isn’t any kind of answer that someone can give to that. Alessia knew deep in her heart she could never see her family again and that broke her heart. Carlisle gave her a sympathetic look and left her alone with her thoughts.
Letting her legs leap from the balcony her feet leaped through the trees bounding across stretches of forest until she startled and stopped dead at the tree line opposite Bella’s bedroom. It was late but the lamp was still on in the bedroom so Alessia scaled the paneling on the side of the house and slowly and silently peeked in the window. The room looked empty but Bella was visible wrapped up in her blankets staring at the ballet slippers Alessia left on the kitchen table five days ago that were now clutched in her grip. The window was slowly slid up and Bella’s eyes snapped up to see her older sister, now visibly changed, walking towards her. Alessia barely had enough time to sit down before she was tackled by her baby sister onto the covers. That’s where the two sisters stayed, Alessia sitting with her back resting against the headboard slowly running her hands through Bella’s hair, who laid between her older sister’s legs with her head resting on Alessia’s chest. The clock read 01:30 on the bedside table and the younger was beginning to get tired. The rhythmic movement of Alessia’s cold hand was now accompanied by her soft voice as she recited a children’s book her father read her every night before bed until she was 8 years old.
“Once there was a baby star. She lived up near the sun. And every night at bedtime, that baby star wanted to have some fun. She would shine and shine and fall and shoot and twinkle, oh, so bright. And she said, "Daddy, I'll run away if you make me say good night."
And then her Daddy kissed her on her sparkly nose and said, "No matter where you go, no matter where you are, no matter how big you grow, and even if you stray far, I'll love you forever, 'cause you'll always be my baby star."
Bella was out like a light and Alessia took this as a cue to leave. Leaving through the door to try and find her father she peeked into her old room to see Charlie lying on top of her covers, his tear-tracked face visible in the moonlight as he held the tiny stuffed star that belonged on Alessia’s bed. The girl stared at the sight, trying to solder the image of her father, the man who raised her, into her mind for the rest of eternity. Gripping the grey blanket that was sitting on her desk chair she slowly draped it across his body before giving Charlie Swan a feather light kiss on his forehead, whispering, “I love you Daddy”. It took all the strength she had in her newborn body to rip her eyes away from her father and to quickly and silently begin slipping some things she couldn’t leave without into one of her many sports bags, the photograph of her and the Cullens, one of her and Bella as kids and one of the three of them the day Bella arrived in Forks. The music box and key also made the cut and finally the big stuffed star to match the one currently gripped by her dad. With a final silent goodbye to the only life she had ever known she slid open her bedroom window, the breeze blowing the curtains as she raced off into the night.
Jasper was waiting by the front door when she returned. Their exchange was silent as Alessia took his hand and let him lead her up the stairs to a room she hadn’t been in before. Grey walls and big windows matched the rest of the home, and the decor was simple, sheer white curtains framed the view of the full moon through the trees and the shelves on the left of the room were filled to bursting with books. The bed that laid in the corner of the room made Alessia laugh at the sight of it, “I thought vampires don’t sleep?” Strong arms wrapped around her waist and cold breath tickled her ears and sent shivers down her spine. “Well I planned on keeping you human for a few years longer, thought it would be handy, plus they are still comfy to lie on.” Alessia pulled away from his hold to scan the stack of vinyl records that sat next to the window under a vintage record player, while flicking she asked her next burning question. “Why am I in love with you?”
Jasper smiled fondly at the brunette kneeling on his bedroom floor judging his music taste and answered her bizarre question with an equally bizarre answer, “penguins”. Alessia burst out laughing, the loud, joyful sound echoing through the room as she snapped her head to meet the smiling blonde’s eyes, “The fuck did you just say to me?” she shifted her body around, sitting cross-legged on the wooden floor and watched Jasper match her posture, joining her on the floor. “Penguins”.
Still very confused with her beloved’s outburst she laid her chin on her knees as she pulled them up to her chest (Jasper did the same making her laugh again) “Alright, I’ll bite, why penguins?” Golden eyes locked onto her own (that were now reaching a deep caramel colour) and he answered her again, voice soft and full of adoration. “Because darlin’, There is not really any rhyme or reason as to who we fall in love with, we find our person and they own our hearts for the rest of time. Penguins mate for life, and vampires mate for eternity.”
Standing from his spot on the floor Jasper slid a specific record sleeve out of the pile, placing the black vinyl on the player and lowering the needle, Etta James’ silky voice rang out through the speakers, Jasper swiveled around and held his hand out to the girl smiling up at him still on the floor “To eternity?”
Alessia slipped her small hand into the larger one presented to her and let her body be pulled from the floor as she fell into Jaspers hold, their bodies slowly swaying to the jazz lilting through the room, Her gaze locked onto the man she was content to spend the rest of time beside. “To eternity.”
‘At last... my love has come along.’

My OCs
i’ll do it on here, it makes sense
Kevin Anderson - 27, 5′8″, gay ace, nonbinary trans dude, uses he/him pronouns. shapeshifter. wears glasses. is the friendliest and softest out of them so far. sometimes too soft - just wants to get on with everybody. has really bad anxiety; also has ADHD. main fidget toy is a Rubix cube. loves pasta but mainly snacks. my Windows (the Thing 1982) OC. lives on caffeine as well. can be found eating icing out of a tub. can accidentally shapeshift if overwhelmed/stressed. prone to panic attacks. favourite forms is one of the huskies so he can just chill. has been best friends with Nauls since kindergarten; ran away from parents at 16 due to his shapeshifter status becoming known.
Celpaxtri - Paxtri or Pax for short, unknown age and origin; claims to be hundreds of years old. pan pangendered half cat half humanoid alien. 5′6″. uses xe/xem pronouns. eyes are red and glow in the dark; has night vision, super agility and speed and can electrocute xyr enemies. generally curious but can lash out if xe senses a threat. lets people infodump to them if xe believes they are friendly enough. i have two aus for xem; one for the playmobil movie and the other for the thing. unfortunately both end up with xem going through scientific experimentation, resulting in physical scars and psychological trauma.
Carlisle Rivers - Carl for short, 5′10″, 28, a bi bigender secret agent, telekinetic and telepathic. uses ey/em, she/her and they/them pronouns. is the most reserved and bitter out of all of them, especially having to keep eir powers under control and under wraps because of what it could all mean. is part of a playmobil au and is found out by Rex, which creates multiple conflicts. spends a lot of time pushing people away; powers discouraged from a young age. i believe Rex is a very understanding type and doesn’t budge easily when he sees someone who needs help, despite how many times they push him away. Carl would rather not be a target for anyone who wants to keep an eye on eir powers and Rex just wants to help, so there is clear problems from the start.
Andy Summers - 5′7″ aroace transmasc enby, uses they/them pronouns (started off as a self-insert). is half-Terran, half-Celestial with Ego as their bastard father. never had a good father figure even before Ego (look, Ego’s the absolute worst, but i really don’t like Yondu either as a dad or as a character). in their 20s throughout their time with their bastard father and probs early 30s present day after they kick his ass into space.
not as bitter as Carl but incredibly troubled and often reserved; just wants to vibe in space in their ship. can be emotional. listens to music a lot; this helps with trauma and their ADHD. will not resort to violence unless they really have to. has powers including the ability to sense evil through sickness and migraines around particularly bad people, accelerated healing and heightened invulnerability.
emotions and trauma affect powers - when closer to the light, actually can tune into the core of Ego’s planet to summon their own light tendrils, eyes glow as a result. residual power after Ego’s obliteration is eyes changing colour with mood.
Veronica Coleman - 5′11 secret agent lesbian, uses she/her pronouns. has the ability to become invisible and create and manipulate fire. fiery yet kinda reserved; doesn’t take shit whatsoever. excellent at acrobatics and hand to hand combat and is on a similar level with Rex, though she doesn’t really like the comparison and tries to shrug him off at times. he’s kinda impressed though, and sometimes they get put on missions together. of course, they always have to try not to become a target, especially since her powers would be incredibly useful to certain people with malicious intentions.

New OC!! 28 year old Carlisle Rivers, a bigender bisexual telepath & telekinetic. Uses she/her, they/them & ey/em pronouns. Prefers ey/em out of all of them but likes the others enough to be comfortable with them. Has managed to keep eir powers generally under wraps after developing a control on them, but you can only get so far in the secret agent world before someone discovers them, be it friend or foe.
Fortunately, I guess, the first person to discover this is none other than my favourite spy boy Rex, because of course, which does put them slightly at odds although Rex is somewhat understanding even though he knows it’s dangerous both inside work and on the outside due to enemies. So there’s multiple conflicts for the both of them in trying to hide eir powers, besides em and Rex being general parallels of each other who point out certain things about the other.
Of course, if any enemies get a hold of either em or Rex or even both of them, it’s not gonna be pretty, that’s for sure.

Hiya! My name’s Fleur and I'm a 20-year-old Dutch Hufflepuff who is currently studying English. Thanks for reading my guidelines!
This blog is mutuals only, meaning that I only interact with rp blogs that I follow (back). I’d appreciate it if personal blogs didn’t reblog any of my threads and/or headcanons.
If I follow you, it means I want to write with you! Consider a follow full permission to approach me or send me memes. <3
I’ll follow back basically any blog with muses that I’m familiar with. Here’s a list of a few series/movies/books that I have seen/read other than the ones I have muses for: Game of Thrones, Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit, Sherlock, Ripper Street, The Musketeers, A Series of Unfortunate Events (netflix series), iZombie, Once Upon A Time, Divergent, the James Bond franchise.
All I ask is that you read at least the canon-divergent headcanons of my muses prior interacting. You can find them at the top of their about pages.
I’m more than willing to write all the canon ships on my blog without prior interaction (i.e., Remus x Tonks, Fleur x Bill, Newt x Tina, Carlisle x Esme, Twelve x River, Aethelflaed x Erik, Peeta x Katniss). This does not mean that my shipping will be restricted solely to the previously mentioned pairings nor that I’ll force them upon you if you’re not comfortable with them. If you’re interested in shipping our characters, feel free to shoot me a message!
Triggering themes will be tagged. I’m of age but smut is unlikely to happen unless I’ve written with you for a while and am comfortable enough.
