a perfect fit | zhang hao
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
pairing: campus crush! zhang hao x reader
genre: fluff
word count: 3409
warnings: minor swearing probably?  lowercase intended, not proofread
prompts: 4. "what do you want?" "you" 5. "i want to help you, so please, let me." 11. "is that my sweater?"
notes: combined a hao prompt request (i changed the phrasing of 4 a little bit IMSORRY) with a campus crush! hao request and came up with this,,, honestly longer than i was expecting and somehow shorter than i wanted it to be ?? idk.. anyways geology major! hao you are dear to me (i want him so bad i'm clawing at the walls of my enclosure) hope you all enjoy <3
college was stressful. you knew it would be, it had to be expected. but what you didn’t expect was that the hardest part wasn’t the coursework or the seemingly constant stack of homework sprawled across your desk; it was actually paying attention in your classes.
how were you supposed to focus on mantle convection when three rows down was arguably the prettiest boy you had ever seen in your whole life. zhang hao.
you only had a few classes together, but coincidentally, due to your wandering eyes those happened to be the classes you were falling behind in. and he was to blame.
truth be told, it seemed everyone had some sort of campus crush on the boy; between the way he dressed and carried himself and the way he always managed to be at the top of every class, just about everyone either wanted to be him or be with him. and you couldn’t blame them in the slightest.
zhang hao was someone to admire from afar; across the lecture hall or the path between buildings. so when he ended up in a study group you had joined in an attempt to graduate with a respectable grade, you were dumbfounded, what was someone like him doing in a study group for a class he was passing with flying colours? maybe it was charity work, you convinced yourself.
the study group was only so effective for you, with zhang hao in the group you couldn’t focus, yet again. it was too hard to not notice the way he fidgeted with the pen in his hand or the way he doodled small animals in the corners of the paper. or the way he leaned over a fellow classmate as he helped them with a particularly complicated question in the textbook.
you were doomed.
——
after a few weeks of no progress, you were just about to give up. maybe i’ll just drop out and work at a department store or something. you told yourself as you crouched down outside the library you all studied in.
sure, you were being a little dramatic. but you were one question away from bursting into tears as you walked out of the study group an hour early. the embarrassment of leaving paled in comparison to crying in front of the boy who had been your reason to showing up to class some days.
“are you okay?” the question pulled you out of your pity party, looking up to see the tall male in front of you. he gave you a worried look at your curled up frame leaned against the brick. “i’m just feeling a little stupid,” you tried to laugh, a dry husk of humour pushing past your lips.
the boy didn’t respond right away, opting to crouch beside you as he sat down on the concrete right next to you. if you weren’t so stressed about your academics right now, you probably would’ve been a stuttering mess at the close proximity. maybe you would’ve even noticed the scent of his cologne. but all you could do in that moment was frantically wipe your eyes and attempt to not look as pathetic as you felt.
his eyes softened as he watched your hands rest on top of your knees, “you’re not stupid,” he said, a sweet tone in his voice, comforting even, “it’s a difficult class, everyone has been struggling.” his kind words tugged at your heart more than you’d care to admit.
“but everyone else seems to be getting it eventually.” you sniffled, concentrated on the tears threatening to spill again, “and i just keep slipping further and further behind.” you let out a heavy sigh, “i’m never gonna catch up at this rate.”
you almost forgot the boy was even sitting there, silently listening to your troubles. “shit sorry,” you let out a pitiful laugh, “i didn’t mean to drag you into being my therapist.”
he shook his head, a smile spreading across his face, “it’s okay, i’m glad you told me.” he turned his head towards you, “how about we make a deal?”
you only tilted your head in curiosity, urging him to continue his train of thought.
“you let me tutor you from now until exams. if you pass, then we both win, and if you don’t, then at least you tried your best.”
the offer was sweet, but you couldn’t help but wonder why zhang hao of all people would take time out of his days to tutor you.
“what’s in it for you?” you let a small smile break out across your face, the first in what felt like weeks.
“well,” he pretended to ponder for a moment, “maybe i just want to pass my knowledge onto someone.” you couldn’t help but laugh at the reason as he continued.
“and maybe, this can double as a way to make a new friend, if you’d want.”
sure. “friend” had no real implications of anything beyond a good acquaintance. but you almost choked at the disbelief. the university’s sweetheart, zhang hao wanted to be your friend? the boy you had spent the better part of the last two months trying to tear your eyes off of while your professor droned on about chemical reactions and the composition of rocks.
“are you sure? i don’t wanna take up too much of your time and-“ he cut you off before you could finish. “i wouldn’t offer it if i wasn’t sure,” he smiled gently, “i want to help you, so please, let me.”
you pondered the offer for a moment again. maybe it was the prospect of spending more time with him, or maybe it was just the idea of finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel that was this class, but you had made up your mind.
“deal.” your smile widened as you stuck out a hand, his own coming out to shake yours as he mirrored your expression.
this was going to be interesting.
——
your one on one study sessions had only been going on for a few weeks but you were already starting to grasp the concepts more with zhang hao’s help. “just call me hao.” you recall him insisting on multiple occasions, unaware of the way your brain would try and twist the intimacy behind it. just friends, you had to remind yourself, that was all you two would ever be, and that was honestly more than you ever could have expected.
“hao,” the name rolling off your tongue, “it’s getting late, can’t we wrap this up?” you whined, pouting a little in hopes of getting sympathy from the boy. as smiley as he was, he was also quite the hard-ass when it came to studying.
“one more question and then we can be done for tonight, deal?” he smiled, gesturing to the last practice question from this page. you let out a huff as you mumbled an acceptance of the deal, grabbing your pencil once again as you wrote out the explanation, scouring your brain for the scientific phrases to communicate your thoughts.
zhang hao looked over your final answer with a content hum, his hand coming over to ruffle your hair, “good job, you’re getting the hang of this.”
you stiffened at the contact and praise, you had never really gotten validation like that, especially not from someone like him, and your brain was running with it.
when you originally agreed to this arrangement you hoped that maybe it would be your way to get over your little campus crush on the boy sitting next to you, but it had only gotten worse, and you were slowly losing it. taking a moment to shake the thoughts from your mind, you started gathering your stuff up to leave, as was zhang hao.
“don’t forget you’re stuck with me tomorrow too, y/n!” he chuckled lightly before saying his farewells and leaving first, rushing off to meet up with his friend; you were sure he mentioned his name once before, ricky maybe? something like that.
you only nodded as you waved, grabbing your jacket off the back of the chair and slinging your backpack over your shoulder, but then something caught your eye; a light blue hoodie draped across the back of the back of the chair next to you. zhang hao’s sweater. the boy was already long gone, and based on how often he was sporting the hoodie, you assumed it was one of this favourites, so you couldn’t just leave it here. “i’ll just give it back to him tomorrow.” you mumbled to yourself, picking up the sweater and resting it over your arm.
when you got back to your dorm you folded the sweater nicely on your desk, right in your view so you wouldn’t forget it tomorrow. as much as you tried to ignore it, that night you couldn’t help but notice the warm citrus scent of his cologne, and you swore you could smell it in your dreams that night.
——
the next day was a brisk spring day, the warm air having been replaced by a crisp, almost cold, breeze. to say you had not dressed properly was an understatement, you thought to yourself as you walked across the campus towards the library. in a moment of weakness as you called it, or rather a moment of strong winds, you took it upon yourself to throw the pale blue hoodie over your frame. he wouldn’t mind too much right?
sitting at your usual table in the library, you set up your many papers and textbooks, not paying attention as the boy you had grown close to approached the table, a little out of breath.
“sorry i’m late,” he breathed out, catching his breath after seemingly running here.
“it’s okay, i was early,” you laughed, finally looking up at the boy who’s cheeks were flushed light pink.
you watched as his gaze traced your figure, taking notice of the sweater you were wearing, “is that my sweater?”
now it was your turn to flush a shade of pink, trying to form a sentence as you stuttered through excuses, “oh, i’m sorry,” an awkward laugh escaped your lips, “it’s just you left it here yesterday and so i was bringing it to give back to you but it was colder outside than i thought it was and so i put it on on the way here without really thinking, i can give it back right now,” you barely stopped to take a breath, “or i can go wash it and then give it back if you’d prefer.” your train of thought was stopped by his hand on top of yours, your mind going from a million miles a minute to frozen solid in mere moments.
“it’s okay y/n,” he chuckled at your flushed expression as he sat down next to you, “it looks cute on you anyways.” he said simply, moving his gaze to the textbooks in front of you as he flipped to the pages you were on the day before.
this boy was going to be the death of you.
——
something in the air seemed to change after that day, and it wasn’t just the scent of the blooming cherry blossoms in the breeze. something had changed with you two, and perhaps that was how the two of you ended up in your dorm room rather than the library, and on a saturday of all days.
“what homework have you got for me today teacher zhang hao?” you joked, leaning back on the arms as you sat on the end of your bed, looking at the boy who sat comfortably in your desk chair.
“aren’t i allowed to just hang out with my friend without talking about plate tectonics?” he said, a joking sarcasm lacing his tone.
you only laughed in response as you tried to control your heart beating out of your chest at the simple, friendly, term.
before you knew it, the day had faded into night in a blur of laughter and conversation; real conversation. it was a nice change of pace, and as much as you hated to admit it, the more you got to know him, the more your campus crush had changed into just a genuine crush.
you tried to ignore it, but it was so hard to ignore the comfort you felt being around him, how easy it was to slip into conversations and how easy he made you laugh. how were you supposed to not think about that.
and much to the dismay of your heart, these weekend hangouts had become a sort of routine. on top of seeing him most weeknights at the library, your interactions had spilled into the weekends quite seamlessly. whether it was just having a movie night in your dorm room, wandering campus during sunset, or even just doing normal young adult things like going shopping. the two of you had even gotten into the habit of accompanying each other on errands just to keep the other company.
it was nice, you couldn’t lie, but the domestic activities made it that much harder to separate your romantic and platonic feelings for the boy.
and here you were, awaiting the arrival of the boy on a saturday night. every time your phone lit up you rushed to grab it, just in case it was from hao, the casual name becoming more natural over the weeks.
this time it actually was a message on your screen, you found yourself quickly unlocking your phone to see what it said. “i’m going to stop at the store on my way over,” the text read, “do you want anything?”
before the voice of reason in your head could object, you typed back a quick response, “you.” simple, straight forward, to the point. everything you weren’t. it was already too late to cover up your boldness as you watched the typing bubble appear, in sync with the wave of anxiety and near nausea that washed over you.
“you think you can afford me?” he joked back, rolling with the conversation more smoothly than you ever could have, evidently. you typed back a quick laugh, hoping he wouldn’t see the truth behind your original response, “probably not, maybe i’ll just take some gummy worms.” you replied before nearly throwing your phone across the cramped room.
and to think, you were stuck with him all night.
——
you tried to focus on the movie, you really did, but the all too familiar feeling of wandering eyes and a racing heart took over your senses, and who could blame you? it wasn’t every day you found yourself sharing a blanket with the prettiest and kindest boy you’d ever known. you almost wondered if he could feel the heat radiating from you, or if he would just blame it on the fuzzy blanket covering your legs. you hoped it would be the latter.
soon enough the credits were rolling and you finally pulled yourself from the thoughts spinning around your mind, just in time for hao to turn to you with a smug smile. “you didn’t pay attention to any of that movie, did you?”  the question caught you so off guard you actually choked a little on the sharp intake of breath. was it that obvious? you wondered. you really had to work on your expressions it seems.
“what’s on your mind y/n?” the smooth, almost teasing tone in his voice would’ve probably made your knees give out had you not already been sat down in your bed.
you managed to stutter out a response, rather reminiscent of the first real conversation you two had months prior. “oh it’s, uhm,” you quickly tried to come up with a believable excuse, settling on possibly the worst one, “it’s nothing.” the stiff laughter did nothing to help your case as he grinned at you knowingly, hopefully not too knowingly.
“so i’m nothing now?” he feigned offense as his hand came up rather dramatically to his chest. “i thought i meant more to you than that, y/n.” he teased, obviously enjoying watching the gears turn in your brain as you attempted to process the conversation that was happening.
busted.
there was no coming back from it now and you knew it, and more importantly, he knew it. at some point he had picked up on your lingering gaze, your quick glances that you thought had gone unnoticed. all there was left for you to do was either admit your growing feelings, or play dumb about the whole thing. and somehow you decided the latter was the smartest option.
“i, uh, don’t know what you’re talking about.” another forced laugh pushed past your lips, getting past your thumping heart on the way out.
it seemed that your reaction filled zhang hao with a new sense of confidence, because he did the last thing you expected him to do; lean in. not close enough for your lips to graze each other, but close enough to feel his breath on you, to feel the heat radiating off of your faces. close enough to feel the thick tension in the air, but you were sure anyone could feel that if they were here, you could even cut it with a knife.
“i think you know exactly what i’m talking about,” he smiled, your eyes darting down to his lips that were only a couple inches from your own before looking back to his eyes; warm and inviting.
you weren’t sure what to say anymore, and so you made the bold decision to close the gap; only briefly, but long enough to taste the cherry lip balm that coated his lips, to feel the way his lips fit against yours. like tectonic plates.
what started as one chaste kiss turned into 2, and then 3, and then a gentle kiss of yearning, of waiting, accompanied by his soft hands on your cheeks. you couldn’t help but lean into his touch, his soft hands feeling like silk against your burning skin. you could feel him smile into the kiss as your body eased, relaxing into a rhythm. time slowed and suddenly the two of you were the only people in the world, the boy in front of you filling all of your senses. zhang hao. zhang hao. zhang hao. your brain echoed as you pulled away, giddy smiles plastered across both of your faces.
“is that what you were on about?” you smiled, your voice barely above a whisper as your eyes flickered between his lips and his eyes once again.
he let out a small laugh, “what do you think?” he sat back against the wall once again, admiring the way the glow from the tv illuminated your skin, and the way you couldn’t wipe the grin off your face. “i thought you’d never do something about it.” he laughed again, this time grabbing your hand lazily.
“listen,” you started, “i didn’t think you noticed, and i was okay to keep it that way,” you looked down at your interlocked hands, your mind silently replaying the last 5 minutes on a loop, rendering yourself no better than a broken record. “you’re the zhang hao, everyone has at least a bit of a crush on you, so why would i assume i had any chance.”
he shook his head as a proud smile spread across his face, “everyone?” he asked, leaving you to lightly smack his arm, a small yelp coming from the boy. “okay okay, no need to smack me,” he laughed, “but really, you thought you didn’t have a chance? why would i have offered to tutor you if i didn’t have at least a bit of an interest in you?”
you let yourself ponder for a moment, looking back on the now distant memory. “i just thought you were being nice!” you stated matter-of-factly, earning another giggle from the boy, you could get used to that sound, or rather, being the reason behind it.
he merely smiled, pressing another kiss to your lips, “well i’m not nice like this to anyone else, if that helps make it more clear.”
“good,” you mirrored his smile, taking in the beauty that was the boy in front of you, the boy who seemed to fit with you like the tectonic plates.
“because i don’t think i could handle the idea of you spending your wednesday nights talking about rocks with anyone else.”

ENCHANTED TO MEET YOU : 20 : deserve to be heard (2.2k)
w. shit hits the fan so be prepared, mentions of alcohol, renjun gets a lil violent but it’s nothing graphic, crying..lots of it
Tumblr media
After you and the girls get out of the car, you and Joy locked arms. Her eyes looked troubled, something within you telling you she was feeling anxious, but you gave her a reassuring smile and that seemed to be enough for her. Neowa and Mal were the most excited between the five of you, scurrying up the steps to the same two doors you felt held so much for the night ahead. “C’mon slow pokes, we have the whole night to go!”
“Exactly, the whole night so why don’t y’all stop running and wait on us?” Sal’s response earned a laugh from the rest of you while the two girls stood by the doors. “We can’t help it that you're moving slow.” Mal threw her arm around Neowa, smiling as you three came up to them. The doors opened, revealing a slightly tipsy Renjun with Mark on his left and Jaemin on his right. “My girls are here, took y’all long enough.” Renjun pulled you into a hug, smiling as he then made his way around with his sudden burst for physical affection. Mark immediately put his arm around Joy, smiling at her while she giggled at something he said. Jaemin sent a wink to Mal, to which she pretended to be gagged by and rolled her eyes.
“C’mon, let’s go find everyone.” Renjun grabbed your hand, leading you inside following behind everyone else. “What happened to us meeting at the front?” He shrugs, keeping a grip on your hand to ensure you wouldn’t get lost in the crowd. “Chenle and Jisung went off to do shots and they are hard to keep up with, mainly because Jisung won’t leave Chenle’s side, especially when he’s been drinking.” A smile spread across your lips, making a mental note to tease Jisung about his cute dynamic with Chenle in the morning.
Passing by the seating areas, you loop through the kitchen and find mostly everyone in a not so crowded space. Almost everyone at least, Chenle and Jisung are still not around and you can’t help, but notice you don’t spot a new face. “Where’s Haechan?” Jeno looked to Renjun, hoping at least someone knew the whereabouts of the boy in question. Letting go of your hand now that he knew you were safe, he groans, rubbing his temples with frustration. “I told him to meet us here.” He turns to you, an almost sad look in his eyes. “I’m gonna go find the devils incarnate, please don’t wander off.”
Your heart went out to Renjun, you knew he still felt guilty for leaving you the last time even after you assured him over and over it was okay. “Stop worrying, I’m here with everyone else, go find your friend.” He gave you a smile before he went off into the crowd and the group started making small talk. “Yo, I have the best idea.” Mark captured everyone’s attention, suddenly feeling shy under all the gazes. “We should play a game while we wait for Renjun and Haechan, chances are Renjun will be a while before he finds him.”
“Sounds like fun, but I’m just going to be honest, all friendship is temporarily thrown out over a game of uno.” Mal threw her hands up in defense before locking eyes with Jaemin who was smirking at her. You could sense something was stirring between them and the thought made your smile grow. “Oh you’re on, I’ve never lost a game of uno.”
“What about that game we played last week?” Jeno intervened, pushing his shoulder against Jaemin. “That didn’t count, you cheated!” Jeno and Jaemin start to bicker over the game they recently played while Mark led the group to a spot where they could all sit around. Once the game started, despite its delay due to Jaemin wanting to sit next to Mal and Neowa threatening to ruin his chance at fatherhood, almost everyone was close to winning except you. “I hate everyone in the circle, this is cheating at its finest.”
“You were the one who said we can stack cards, you can’t get mad now that you have to draw half the deck.” Jeno snickered at your grimace, earning a finger thrown up at him from you. You’re shuffling through your cards when you hear Renjun’s voice calling out to everyone. “I found him, it took forever and I had to drag him downstairs, but I got him.” Everyone started to stand up, your friends were eager to meet this mystery boy Renjun and his friends had gone on and on about. From what they’ve mentioned of him, he seemed like a nice person to be around and you’d be lying if you didn’t say you were equally eager to meet him. Renjun walked into the room as you set your cards down, tugging the boy behind him. As you looked up, your eyes locked with his and you couldn’t tell if you were going crazy or not.
Haechan immediately made eye contact with you and his blood ran cold, feeling a wave of anxiety rush through him. “Guys, this is Haechan, the one we’ve been telling you about. Haechan, that’s Joy, Mal, Neowa, Sal and Y/n.” You didn’t notice Joy’s worrying look when she glanced your way, your brain trying to figure out what exactly was going on. “Bro where have you been and why do you look so pale?” Jeno looked at Haechan, confused at his behavior. The Haechan they knew was bright, he was captivating and he was the reason behind most of their laughs, but his friend looked like he wanted to be anywhere, but here at this moment. “Hyuck?”
Your voice caught everyone’s attention, making Haechan want to open a hole and crawl inside. “Do you two already know each other?” Jaemin curiously asked, glancing between the two of you. The girls felt something was wrong, making their way to be by your side. “Y/n, please let me explain and I prom-“
“You’re going to have to do a lot more than explaining.” You’re confused, pain starting to bubble in your chest as you see the panic spread on his face. “What’s going on?” Sal asked, wrapping her arm around your waist and pulling you into her side. Joy let out a sigh, chewing on her lip as Mark rubbed her back. “Hyuck is H and apparently he’s also Haechan.” The room felt like it was silent, despite the party that was still going on in the rest of the house. The music and sounds of people moving around were deaf to your ears as you start to rethink these last few weeks. “Y/n, please talk to me and I can explain it all.” He took a step forward, reaching out for your hand, but was stopped by Renjun.
“You’re H? And you knew about it this whole time? You knew her this whole time?” Renjun was furious, a new sense of anger settling deep into him and started to make him think the worse, wanting to do the worse. Grabbing Haechan by his collar, his whole body shook with rage as Mark and Jeno immediately rushed to get Renjun away from Haechan as soon as possible. “Woah woah, hey, think about what you’re doing.” Mark tried to reason with his friend, not wanting anything that he’d regret later to happen now. Haechan didn’t seem phased, he knew he deserved this and he truly didn’t care if he got one to the face right now because the look you were giving him hurt worse than any physical pain ever could.
“Think about what I’m doing? He didn’t think about what the fuck he was doing.” Renjun spat back, trying to get Mark and Jeno’s hold off of him. “Renjun, let’s go walk it off, now.” Jeno wasn't usually confrontational, but he knew Renjun wouldn’t try anything on him and that’s ultimately what convinced Renjun to leave the room with the two boys and Jaemin to accompany. “Can we talk, just us two for just a second?”
“Do you really think you deserve to be heard?” Mal was protective, about to try and get her own hands on the boy she just met and already wasn’t fond of. “Guys, can you give us a second?” Neowa nodded, grabbing Mal’s hand and walked her in the opposite direction of Haechan in case she tried anything. Joy bit her lip, feeling guilt of her own for not telling you sooner. She didn’t think things would turn out the way she did, but she too felt like she didn’t protect you from what you may be feeling. “We’ll be in the other room, okay?” Sal whispered to you, kissing your cheek before removing her arm from around you and walked out the room with Joy.
“Please don’t cry, pretty.” His voice sounded strained as he took small steps towards you. You hadn’t noticed the tears that rolled down your cheeks, standing frozen as he got closer. Hesitantly, he brought his hand up to your cheek, brushing off the tears that continued to fall. Pushing his hand away, you turned your head to wipe away the tears with a sniffle. “Why did you lie to me hyuck? Can I even call you that? Is that even your name?”
“Y/n, I didn’t mean to lie to you, I-“
“So why did you?” The question felt like it had too many answers and none at all. Hung up like a piece of paper in the air that neither of you knew how to get to. “You had every chance, every opportunity to tell me it was you and you didn’t, you just continued to lie to me.”
“What would you have done when I saw you on campus because I’m assuming you don’t go to SMU, hell I don’t know what to believe from what you told me anymore.” He wanted to rip his hair out, running his fingers through his hair as he let out a shaky sigh. He moves to a seat, plopping down to steady his spinning mind. “I don’t know what I was thinking, I honestly don’t, but I can tell you everything I said to you, everything I feel for you was real y/n, you have to believe me.”
But you didn’t, you didn’t know what to believe. You had opened up to him and let him into your life and he shined light in every dark corner of your heart and now he has the pieces in his hands. Your lack of response was making him worry, not having the courage to look up and make sure you were still there. Usually, he didn’t show any of his emotions in front of people. He was the type to let it all out when he was alone and cope the only way he knew how, but he was breaking down in front of you and his tears too were pouring down his cheeks.
“I fucked around and played with girls to try and fix what someone else broke and it followed me. I don’t—I didn’t want you to see that side of me and when I told you my name was Hyuck instead of Haechan it wasn’t because I wanted to lie to you.”
“I wanted you to know me, Lee Donghyuck instead of Haechan, the guy who led girls on without second thought and I wanted to tell you so bad, but I was scared of what Renjun would say to you if he found out it was me and I didn’t think we’d get here this fast and all I can say is I’m sorry y/n, I’m so fucking sorry.” He was now crying into his hands, leaning forward as he rethought his every decision and painted them black with regret in his mind. You may have been the best thing to come to him in the last year and he fucked it up on his own and he feels an all too familiar feeling in his chest.
You still stood there, speechless at his sudden confession while you too continued to cry, but in silence. Part of you wanted to reach out and wipe away his tears, tell him that it was okay and all was forgiven because you hated to see people cry. But you couldn’t bring yourself to do it, because it wasn’t all okay. The world around you continued to spin and everyone was continuing with their lives while you questioned yours. You didn’t want to give in to someone who hurt you, again, because you learned from your previous relationships that it never ends well when you do. So you did the next best thing you could think to do and you left.
You left Haechan there alone, hearing the sounds of his sobs replay in your head and when you found your friends, you found out Joy had known for a few days and it felt like the pain and betrayal was never going to end. It was all too much for you, too much in one night to withstand. Feeling like you had nowhere to turn to and didn’t know who to trust, you walked out those same two doors you had left through weeks before, except now the smile on your face from that night had been left behind.

summary : college was enough to deal with, barely passing classes and struggling to keep up with what was going on in each was a daily struggle. not having time to catch someone’s eye was fine with you, that was until you met him. there was something about him that was enchanting, so you went out to find him, hoping you kept him up the same way he did you.

Okay, hear me out I don’t know if anyone is gonna be into this except me but all the shy warprize Hob got me thinking…
Confident slutty warprize Hob and shy king Dream.
Hob’s kingdom offers him up after being told that the Dream King has never been seen with a concubine or consort or anything like that so they’re like “perfect! He obviously will be happy to have one!” Hob is fucking stoked because the Dream King is gorgeous and he gets to live in a palace and have sex with him as a living now? Sign him up.
So they show up and show Dream his pretty little present and Dream is… still gorgeous but also so painfully awkward. He’s clearly trying so hard to be polite and gracious but he also clearly doesn’t know what to do with his hands (he’s doing that famous Dream pose: 🧍‍♂️). Hob gets passed off, and sent to Dream’s chambers, and Hob is waiting, vibrating with excitement because hell yeah, he gets to fuck a king, and everyone knows the quiet ones are always wild in bed, right?
So he waits.
And waits.
And eventually falls asleep and then wakes up, absolutely appalled at how un-fucked he is and, with a confidence no warprize should ever possess, stalks out of the room and starts harassing the nearest guard about where the FUCK the king and his kingly dick is. The guard is too surprised to be tough or authoritative and tells him that the King requested to sleep in a separate room last night.
Now at first, Hob is very sad. Like “oh :((( he doesn’t like me :(( I’m not his type :(((((“ but eventually, he snaps out of it like “no! I’m EVERYONE’S type!!” and becomes determined to live out his slutty dreams.
He spends a day or two getting pampered, made up and pretty with silks and jewels and perfumes, and then he tracks down the Dream King because Hob hasn’t been fucked in like a week and he’s about to lose his damn mind.
In direct contrast to Hob’s slinky, revealing robes, Dream’s outfit is buttoned all the way up his neck to his chin, and his sleeves reveal only the very tips of his fingers. He’s confident in kingly things, but every time Hob takes a step towards him he is taking three elegant steps back. The one time Hob managed to come up behind him and brush a hand across his shoulder the King jumped so high he nearly hit the ceiling. Despite the horny haze, Hob is starting to piece together that there is maybe something else going on here.
So he pauses his seduction attempts and they start talking, and it’s slow going, but he eventually manages to gather (through Dream, castle gossip, trusted advisors, etc) that Dream has capital T trauma from before he became king- he hates being undressed, and he’s clearly touch-starved but he’s too skittish and scared to let anyone touch him long enough to do anything about it (which of course only makes it worse and it turns into a vicious cycle). And Hob really wants to have sex with this guy but he’s also come to care for him so he figures he doesn’t mind just masturbating excessively while taking a few extra steps for his King/friend/someday lover.
He starts slow and simple, at first mostly trying to get Dream to touch him- inviting him to feel the smooth fabric of Hob’s newest robe, or asking him to help with the clasp of a necklace or the back of a dress. Then he offers to help brush Dream’s hair, and at the end he places a gentle kiss to the back of his neck and Dream practically falls out of his seat jumping away from him, and Hob thinks he’s ruined everything, but Dream comes back the next day, shyly requesting that he do his hair again, and this time when Hob kisses his neck he shudders and tenses but doesn’t jump away.
I think their sexual relationship would start with Hob inviting Dream to watch him masturbate and then asking to watch Dream touch himself too when he notices how hard he’s gotten just watching Hob. And he’s very clear that he absolutely doesn’t have to undress if he doesn’t want to, he can even just rub himself through his clothes, Hob doesn’t care as long as Dream is comfortable and he gets to see what he looks like when he comes. Dream’s never had anyone be so patient and understanding with him and that alone is honestly such a turn on.
It still takes a long time, but eventually Dream is able to lay back, fully covered except for his dick so that Hob can ride him. It’s the most satisfying sex either of them have ever had and honestly, Hob kind of loves the way his cum looks splattered all over Dream’s dark, royal clothing.
-🦇
Literally yelling about this!!! You've filled this out with so many wonderful details and I just love it. I feel like I can really get into Hob’s mindset here, thanks to the way you've described him. I especially adore Hob being so confident and the "I'm everyone's type" part akansndnen. Love him <33333
Also!!! King Dream having trauma!!! This is a great angle and it works so well!! He's been through terrible shit and now he's king so he has to be strong, and he doesn't have time to unpack everything :((( but Hob really genuinely wants to help him and give him the intimate relationship that he really deserves!!
Hob somewhat ironically becomes Dream’s greatest protector. He may be a warprize and he may dress as slutty as he can, but hes still as feisty as ever. Whenever anyone upsets Dream or makes some nasty implication about him, Hob seems to appear out of nowhere. He'll put his body between Dream and whoever has been upsetting him, and bare his teeth in the most unfriendly smile. No, nasty ambassador from rival kingdom, he is not happy to see you. That is a dagger strapped under his lacey, revealing robe.
After hes finished threatening whoever dared to upset his King, Hob slips back into place to tenderly massage Dream’s hands, or stroke his hair. Dream is still getting used to these gentle touches, but he finds it much easier to cope now. Hob never pressures him, never pushes at his boundaries. He's happy as long as Dream is comfortable. Besides, Dream doesn't even need to get undressed to be a wonderful and attentive lover. He's the best that Hob has ever had, and the fact that he's slowly recovering and blooming into a happier version of himself is the sexiest thing of all.

Surgeon! MC- youre arrival and your first friends
Tumblr media
Working 100 hours a week can take a toll on anybody and to most that much time sounds crazy but when you’re a surgeon it’s completely normal just another day in the office. It brings unwanted and unnecessary stress but what really stresses you out, being kidnapped and dragged into hell for an exchange program nobody consulted you for the one thing that bothers a surgeon most is not knowing and this is something you didn’t have the slightest clue about and now…you’re pissed.
“What is this place and what am I doing here.”
A tall red haired man speaks up a little taken back by your straightforward tone.
“We’ll firstly my name is Lord Diavolo the head of this little exchange program and the prince meant to bring peace between the three realms”
“The three realms?”
“The human world, the devildom and the celestial realm”
“And what does this have to do with me? And cant you find anybody else I’m kinda busy like super busy if you read that file you apparently used to stalk me with you would know that I’m a surgeon”
“Yes and a very important one at that it seems”
A blonde man speaks up now seeming to be reading the very file you were talking about.
“Dr.Mc a Neurosurgeon, one of the most recognized medical practitioners on your side of the globe.”
“That would be me, glad to know somebody did there homework and as much as I would like to chat will you all about my operations I have brain surgery in *you pull up the sleeve of your white lab coat and check your watch* 4 hours and I have to get back so if you could please”
You gesture to the open space behind you where you came out of a purple portal.
“Send me back”
“I’m afraid we can’t do that doctor”
A tall raven haired man speaks
“You’re essential to this exchange program you were chosen specifically and you’re already here so no, we can’t send you back”
Now you’re super pissed
“I was just in the middle of working a 18 hour shift, I’m running on two whole pots of coffee I haven’t slept in two days and I haven’t showered in three hell I haven’t even seen my house in close to a week so do not tell me what you can and cannot do because if I can do all that and stay standing you can open one of your freaky portals and send me back home.”
Everyone knows that Lucifer is not a man you should mess with, anger or question everyone but you, did you care? No as far as you were concerned it had nothing to do with you as you were soon to be gone.
Luckily Lucifer agreed with that just in different ways.
“Lord Diavolo what will you do”
A man with teal colored hair speaks up from beside him
“Mc I would like to offer you a deal, if I could ensure that all your surgeries for the next year will be taken care of without any consequence to you would you stay?”
All you could think about was a break, the ability to sleep in and not have to complain about patients or other surgeons no standing up for hours cutting people open.
“I guess a vacation wouldn’t kill me”
“If anything it might help with that little attitude of yours doctor”
“Oh yeah try being In my shoes for a week or two cutting people open”
“Oh darling I do more than cut people open”
He snarls at you you’re pretty sure you can see a vein in his forehead.
“Careful now…would want anything to burst”
“We are gonna be such good friends Dr.”
“Now that’s something I can agree on”
Weeks have passed and you feel like you’re cramming for med school all over again satan has been nice enough to create a study guide for you as long as you answer his 30,000 questions about you’re surgeries and really it’s a small price to pay to keep Lucifer off your ass about grades.
“You know I almost forgot to tell you”
“Tell me what”
“Diavolo had summoned you to the castle he wishes to speak with you it’s about the exchange program I’m guessing”
“I sure hope so I don’t think I can talk about my old surgeries anymore, you know I only agreed to stay here because I thought I wouldn’t
have to talk about cutting people open.”
“We’ll really, you didn’t have a choice in the matter but you agreeing made it easier for us”
He takes a sip of his coffee and looks up at you with a small smile of his face
“You might be my only friend Satan”
“I wouldn’t call myself your friend just yet you’ve got a little more to go before I call you friend”
“Someone’s prickly”
It’s about 2:30pm now not that you would really know because it’s always dark in the devildom. Satan walked you to the demon lords castle for your meeting.
“Have fun in there”
“Don’t I always”
You go to knock on the door but just before your hand reaches it, it opens and the teal haired man that stood beside Lord Diavolo is on the other side.
“Hello Mc welcome to the demon lords castle”
He spoke so proper a small smile on his face unwavering.
“Thanks Mr?”
“Barbatos is fine”
“Barbatos that’s a nice name”
“Thank you.”
He takes your coat and leads you to a table in the garden out back. As you approach the table Diavolo stands up.
“I thought a change of scenery might do us bath some good I hope you don’t mind”
“It’s fine, it’s nice out today”
“It is”
You weren’t wrong despite it being dark it was warm but not smothering almost perfect weather.
“So how have things been going I’ve been told by Lucifer that you’ve been studying with Satan and making great progress in your schoolwork scoring high as well might I add”
“I studied longer and harder for med school if anything this is a walk in the park although demonology is a bit different from what I’m used to anything I need or want to know is in a book and as long as I can read it I can understand it”
“Good to know I’ve chosen such a hard worker”
“And speaking of Lucifer the pompous ass what is his deal, does he always have a massive stick shoved up his ass”
Diavolo and Barbatos gives you a blank look and there is a beat of silence before Diavolo bursts into laughter.
You’re kinda taken back by this but keep a straight face nonetheless.
“Excuse me I’m so sorry please forgive me that was way out of line it just caught me off guard I wasn’t expecting that from you”
“Well it was a genuine question it’s like he doesn’t know what a break is or how to relax”
“That’s a bit hypocritical don’t you think”
“Maybe it is but that’s besides the point and besides you work just as hard as both of us”
He smiles and looks at you for a moment
“Tell me about it.”
“About what”
“Your job as a surgeon I’m interested and curious I’ve heard a few things here and there from Lucifer mostly Satan and it makes me think what’s it like for you being inside of peoples heads”
Diavolo was not unfamiliar with opening people up and screwing with there insides neither was Barbatos they were demons after all, but they couldn’t help being a little curious seeing as you save lives and they necessarily don’t.
“It’s like a drug”
Blank stare from Diavolo small smile from Barbatos and if you weren’t trained in expertly reading body language you’d think Barbatos enjoys this almost like he kinda agrees but you carry on.
“Being in there bright lights shinning down on you scalpel in your hand smoothly cutting through skin like a knife through hot butter,
Cut, remove, suture it’s like an unexplainable high makes you wonder why people even do drugs.”
You didn’t notice but you had the faintest smile on your face the other two men noticed though they made no comment
Diavolo eyes you for just a moment you could’ve missed it
“How interesting,tell me more”
You don’t know what it was but talking to him about your surgeries and talking to Satan felt completely different you liked this a little bit more.
“Of course Lord Diavolo, I would love too”

summary:
it’s been nearly 8 years since the events of hawkins and out of the entire party, the only one to stay behind is the one and only eddie munson. with a five year old daughter in tow, his life is a simple one, still trying to escape the dark cloud over him that never went away.
but when all too familiar hellish events start happening again eddie must team up with his daughter’s favorite and mysterious new teacher to protect his little girl and the town he owes nothing to.
warnings: violence, gore,  religious trauma, soft dom! eddie,  praise kink, smut to end all smut,  hawkins indiana is a warning to me. minors dni
yall are not ready for dilf! eddie
also side note: should i give our reader powers? kinda  like what would happen if miss honey in matilda also had powers- let me know!
“One, two, three, eyes on me! ” You called out to your students who looked in your direction, bouncing in their seats.
“One, two, eyes on you!” They responded back, happy chatter falling into silence.  Only two weeks into the school year but you already had a good feeling about your classroom full of sweet rambunctious kids eager to learn.
It wasn’t a mistake to move to Hawkins, you’d be safe here, and you deserved a happy new life doing the one thing you’ve always wanted to do.
Didn’t you?
“We’re being such good listeners today! We’ve got about thirty minutes before lunch so let’s work on our spelling. Would anyone like to help me pass out our workbooks?”
A tiny hand shoots up before everyone else as Rosie Munson all but rockets out of her seat at the prospect of passing out the torn workbooks.
“ Thank you for volunteering Rosie, come on down.”
A flash of pigtails, a band tee, and a tutu over jeans nearly barrel into you as the kindergartner skids to stop in front of you.
“You can give them all to me, I’m strong enough!” She proclaimed, taking the stack bigger than her into her arms and rushing away before you could take some.
“It’s okay if you don’t remember but yesterday we were working on the letter B so we’re gonna keep going-
An odd sensation crept up the back of your spine, causing you to break the chalk with a loud snap, but you try to recover from the weirdness so as to not scare a room of five year olds.
But something didn’t feel right.
“So we’re try B from the very top and-
“Miss, Rosie won’t give me my workbook!”
“ Rosie, do you need help?” You ask over your shoulder, fetching a new piece of chalk but turn around immediately when you get no response.
Rosie stood frozen in place in the middle of the aisle, staring out the window.
“ Rosie, are you alright sweetie? ”
She said nothing, lifting her hand to point out the window.
You follow her gaze to see what appears to be a dark cloud over the sunny september sky.
A large, fast moving cloud.
Birds.
A big wet thump on the windowpane makes you all gasp and you barely have enough time to grab Rosie out of harm’s way before every single window shattered.
“Everyone get down! Get down now!”  You yelled over your students' screams, shielding as many of them as you can while the others hid under their desks. You can hear it happening all over the building, the flapping of wings and screaming before it all stops. The cries die down to whimpers as you take in the scene of your terrified students surrounded by what had to be hundreds of dead birds.
The aftermath is a blur of consoling students, early dismissals, a cavalcade of ambulances, buses, and concerned parents wrapping their children in their arms. Your kids gather around you, waiting for  their bus or parents to retrieve them until it’s just you and Rosie, no longer scared and happily chattering at your side while you both wait for her parents to pick her up.
The looks from some of the older teachers as they walk past make your blood boil. You had heard their chattering on the first day of school, the way they whispered something about being grateful that they didn’t have the freak’s kid in their class. You didn’t know what they meant and you didn’t care.
The sound of a car racing into the lot with heavy metal blasting and Rosie’s excited giggles stir you out of your reverie.
“ Daddy! That’s my daddy Miss!” Rosie hopped down from her chair next to you as you got a look at the emerging figure from the car.
Rosie shared the same brown curls and doe eyes with her father, though his curls fell to his ears.  Heavily tatted arms scooped up his daughter, looking at the pink band aids covering her hands and arms in confusion and concern.
“Did you get in a fight with a wood-chipper munchkin?”
“We had a freak incident with some birds today, hence the early dismissal. I had the nurse and paramedics check her over and they said she’s going to be fine, nobody was seriously hurt.” You said, stepping forward, hand outstretched. “ It’s nice to meet you Mr. Munson, I’m Rosie’s teacher.” You said with a smile.
He looked at you in a way that made your heart race which you’re not quite sure if you like it  or not.
“ Eddie works, Mr. Munson was my crappy old man. It’s nice to meet you and I’m sorry I’m late, my boss wouldn’t let me off early despite it being an emergency.  Thank you for looking after my girl, she speaks highly of you.” He said, tickling his daughter before placing her in a car seat.
“ Rosie is a pleasure to have in class and I look forward to her progress this year, hopefully with fewer bird break-ins.” You said rather lamely but Eddie smiles anyway before his eyes go further down.
“ You’re bleeding.”
“ I’m what-oh.”
You look down to see a thin scratch near your collarbone, a small line of blood oozing down your neck. Eddie closes the gap between you two, fishing a bandanna from his pocket and before you can protest, presses it to your cut, cool calloused fingertips against your hot skin.
You should probably be doing anything but this in the middle of the school parking lot but oddly enough, you don’t want this complete stranger anywhere else but close to you right now.
“ See Daddy, I told you she was pretty.”
“Rosie!”

FIC UNDER CUT WOO
--------------------------------
Tension
Seri x Reigen fic
Teen
The sun had not yet set bringing that mystical mix of the city street at night with the final, red rays of the day. Street lamps and store fronts grew in presence as shadows stretched long before melting together. With spring not fully realized, the lack of warmth quickly turned every exhale into a small cloud. Even on the bus everyone kept their long coats zipped up and gloves on.
Seri stood with one hand keeping himself steady on a support bar with his gaze idly watching the passing buildings. The last of the crimson faded from the sky. Three more, two more turns; one stop in between. He hoped the notes he took today were sufficient, as all he had going through his mind had dissolved down to lights and numbers with the swelling joy of finally getting to go back home. The bus hit a few potholes and he was forced out of his day dream. His stop was already next.
Their cohabitation ended up as a meager, pseudo studio apartment. At least it was near the deli and a bakery. The landlord claimed it was a one bedroom with plenty of charm. He probably was referring to the window facing the small garden shop and not the closet like living space. Didn’t matter to Seri. He walked briskly up the stairs, breath trailing behind him as he unlocked and opened the door.
Warmth met his cold face, mixed with the scents of instant noodles and green tea. Another smell pricked at the back of his mind but was soon covered with lavender.  A single candle burned on the meager kitchen counter/dining area – a gift from Shou for the new years. Setting his bag down, Seri was relieved to finally be back. He removed his coat and shook off the remaining chill. One benefit of a tiny place was it was cheap and easy to keep warm, even more so when they were both on the couch together.
And there lay Reigen on said couch, legs hanging off the side as the TV droned on some news special about vegetables and fruit and which were the best to eat. He was bare foot and still in his pants and shirt from work but with jacket off and buttons undone.
“I’m back!” Seri spoke with a cheer in his voice, taking off his own shoes. “Sorry for being late, the class ran over like it does every Friday.”
There was a grunt in reply. Reigen gave a nod. “Yeah of course.”
By the time Seri arrived home every weekday, Reigen had already started his long wind down to bedtime. He pulled back his legs and shifted over to give enough for Seri to join him on the couch. They both sat weary but comfortable from a full week. Lazy, but accomplished. Then Seri noticed it: the dull look in his eyes, the tense posture, one hand fisted into a ball with the other fidgeting with the undone tie at his chest.
 “Taka-“
Reigen could feel the eyes on him and at once started painting his cover. “So how was school? Learn anything interesting?” His balled hand rose to give a few gestured as he prattled on. “You know, soon you’ll be far enough to tutor Mob. Heard you are working with Shou. Funny how it all comes back to you like that.”
“Yeah.” Seri blinked, looking down at the floor. “I’m shocked but pleased how fast I caught back on.”
“See? Like riding a bike.” A forced laugh from Reigen. “Expect with books and math. And way too many essays.” He sat up more in the couch, posture still ridged. “Say, are they still assigning those? I remember getting a pile over the weekends. Made it hard to do anything else.”
“Well, not many this weekend. More starting projects.” Seri hated the silence that fell after his last word.
Not even enough energy for that, huh Taka? He wanted to say it out loud. So many nights Reigen would rant and rave until making the excuse to depart for bed in the end. He’d lie in Seri’s arms, eventually falling into a fitful sleep. Talking was his style, yet he ended up saying so little.
The TV went on, ads before a report on local construction. Seri felt his shoulder droop, each passing second wanting to do something. He closed his eyes.
“I know you can smell it.” Reigen was staring at the floor too, hands still in his lap. He shot a glance over to Seri. “I only finished one. Started the second and was-“ He paused, his hands tensing into fists, “so disgusted with myself I threw it on the ground.” Forcing a grin he met Seri’s eyes. “Imagine me, wasting a cigarette like that?”
Seri frowned back, but not out of disappointment. Without any judgment he wrapped an arm around Reigen and held him close. The man gave in, leaning against his shoulder.
 “You’re so tense. Come here.”
Seri started rubbing down along the back. He had caught himself many times in the past with his spine arched, tongue pushed against the top of his mouth, and his shoulders rigid. Especially at school. He wondered how many hours Reigen was stuck in that stressful loop, his body mirroring the storm in his brain. Seri shifted up to gently massage Reigen’s neck.
“It was such a long week. Between that angry patron and those two twins  and the new electric bill and-“ Reigen started gesturing again, the tension in his arms trying to free itself through his fingers but only getting trapped
“You don’t have to explain anything.”
Seri slouched down into the couch, offering his chest. Reigen rested his head. Another bout of silence; this one far less stressful. The sound of cars and people outside mingled with the TV. Just the two of them enjoying each other’s company. In the idle time, Seri took to using his powers to tidy up a bit of the apartment – putting away some dishes into the sink and stacking mail and books. The objects glowed lightly in his aura as they floated about. He even readied the bed for their eventual departure for the night, all while massaging his stressed roommate.
Reigen’s voice came in such a muffed whisper Seri could barely hear it.
 “I’m so glad you’re home.”
Seri could still feel the tightness just from gently stroking Reigen’s back. He gave a long exhale, hoping he could be as good at this as his boss.
“You’ve told me a few times-“ He paused, trying o find the right words “That it’s ok to be wrong. I mean, like this.” Seri exhaled again, more of a frustrated sigh. “Pain, hurt. It’s a part of life and not some terrible sin.” He glanced down at Reigen. “Sorry. You said it far better than me.”
“Nothing wrong with suffering, nothing wrong with stumbling. “Reigen mumbled into Seri’s chest. “If you never had a bad day you wouldn’t be alive.” He gave a snort. “Sounds corny now that I hear it myself.”
Seri looked down, meeting Reigen’s sleepy gaze. “It’s not that corny.”
Regien grinned back, their lips growing closer. “Yes it is.”
Both their trains of thought had met on the same track and were now derailing. Seri leaned in for a long kiss, pushing against Reigen as he resumed his back massage. His fingers circled over higher muscles before trailing lower. A shudder in his arms.
“You’re getting better at this.” Reigen was smiling wide now, his whole face not afraid of hiding his emotions.
“And you are still too tense.”
Seri was answered with another kiss. He stopped his massage as Reigen shifted, turning so his chest was out now and his neck craning up for more. Naturally, Seri’s hands caressed up between the unbuttoned shirt. There was already sweat beading there.
Both their breathing grew heavy. He broke off from the kiss, allowing his lips to trail down, tongue against Reigen’s cheek. Lower and lower. Hands gripped his shirt hard as he teased. Suddenly, a moan broke out, Reigen jolting up before giving a shudder and flopping onto his back on the other side of the couch.
What had he done just now? He was only touching the chest, his lips- oh- his tongue. There was a slight red mark on the skin along where the larynx gives form when one tilts their head up. Though half open eyes, Reigen let out a grateful sigh.
This warranted further experimentation. Seri straddled Reigen, pinning his hands down as he resumed paying attention to the neck. His lips first, then the tongue, up the full length from the middle gap of the clavicle to the base of the chin. This time the moan was a yell, shaking and airy, Reigen breathing hard. He tried to push back but could only lie; helpless under Seri as his nerves fired in a perfect pattern. In the end, the normally confident, smooth talking man was a puddle with his legs crossed and his mouth open, trying to catch his breath. Seri blushed.
Slower now. He gently took the neck in one hand, rubbing his thumb along the same path. Reigen gripped back, panting and moaning as he looked up through cracked eyelids.
Su- suya.” He was stumbling over syllables now.
Seri leaned down and gave another kiss at the spot. Under him, Reigen kept his head tilted back, stare fluttering back. He was making it clear. Even Suya could get it. Do anything, rip off his shirt, pin him down, break this couch ravaging him. A long, ragged exhale before Reigen reached up, taking Seri’s tie in his hands. A little tug in invitation.
Seri sat up, pulling a small notepad out of his pants pocket with a pen and began scribbling down notes.
 “Hey! What?”
Reigen sat up, a fit of amusement and rage mixing with the heat in his chest. In the end he cracked a smile.
“Suya. You can’t be serious.” Reigen shook his head.
Seri was still writing, his paper having a small diagram of Reigen’s neck with notes around it.
Hands engulfed the notebook. “How about you take notes after?” Reigen took the pen and paper away, leaving them to fall to the floor. “I’m sure there’ll be much more to learn tonight.”
Seri blushed harder, giving a sheepish grin. They settled into the couch again with Reigen on top now. They started again with a long kiss as the light from the TV flashed colors over the embracing pair.

Sweetness and Light: Part 5
Well hot damn, it's been long enough - and speaking of 'long enough' this part totaled out at 22 pages. Told y'all it's only gonna get longer from here on out.
Tumblr media
Week two and week three go by, each with its high - and low - points.
BobxFemale!OC. F/C: Kacey Rohl
Word count: 8.1K
WARNINGS: colorful language; not beta-read (we die like men); mentions of toxic family behavior
Recommended Soundtrack: Go! - Public Service Broadcasting; Kick the Tragedy - Drop Nineteens; Crank - Catherine Wheel
***
Week 2. PT does, indeed, suck on Monday.
Everhardt decides that his class’s first PT session of the week is going to involve endurance conditioning at the base track - a lot of it.
When he utters the dreaded words “caboose runs,” Katie groans (as do probably 5 other people, but that’s beside the point). As if it wasn’t bad enough that she and Bob kicked their asses hiking on Saturday, now she’s got 20 minutes of staggered sprints on shit legs to worry about.
“It had to be caboose runs,” Katie mutters under her breath as she falls in line behind Fanboy and trots off for the next 20 minutes of hell.
At least she’s not alone in her misery. Bob says nothing as he slips into line behind her. He does, however, pass her a grin of pained solidarity as he sprints his way up to the front of the train when his turn comes.
It’s a grin she returns when it’s her turn to bolt to the front.
It’s also a grin that Fanboy catches notice of, and one that he finds himself asking questions about when the run ends 20 minutes later.
“Am I missing something here?” he wheezes to Katie when they’re all clustered on the side of the track, taking a much-needed water break.
Katie, propped up beside Bob against a row of bleachers, shrugs. “Dunno. Maybe if you’d tagged along with us instead of spending all morning in bed on Saturday, you’d be in the loop.”
“Yeah, yeah, yeah. How was the hike, anyway?”
“Long,” Bob winces. “And steep.”
“Hm. Explains the faces of agony.”
“You don’t even know the half of it,” Katie mutters with a snort, which Bob underscores with a nod and chuckle of agreement.
Fanboy says nothing else beyond that - at least, not while Bob is within earshot. When everyone starts making their way to center field for calisthenics and Bob follows along with the others, Fanboy pulls Katie aside, leans in close. “So uh, like I was saying earlier… Am I missing something here?”
There’s no missing the sly, knowing glimmer in his eyes when he speaks. Oh Christ Fanboy, what are you insinuating?
She plays dumb. “I have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about,” she says airily.
“Hell you don’t,” Fanboy retorts with a roll of his eyes and a smirk. “I saw you guys vibing together. Being all smiley and shit. Y’all got real friendly with each other on Saturday, didn’t you?”
“If by ‘got real friendly’ you mean ‘hiked up the side of a mountain and OD-ed on pancakes and hashbrowns shortly thereafter,’ then yeah, we got real friendly.”
“Cute, cute. There gonna be a second date?”
“Oh my god Fanboy-”
“Ooh, that sounds like a yes-”
“Fuck off,” Katie giggles as she gives Fanboy a small shove. “Seriously, there’s nothing going on with me and Bob. We’re just friends.”
“Five bucks says that changes in a couple weeks.”
“You ready to lose that bet?”
Fanboy shrugs. “I dunno, I’m feeling pretty good about this one.” The waggling of his eyebrows earns him an exasperated groan.
“You are absolutely ridiculous.” Despite the nature of the words she just spoke, Katie can’t help the grin that splits across her face. “C’mon, before Everhardt bitches at us.”
He laughs, but says nothing more as he jogs off to join the others for the rest of PT - and thank god he does, otherwise he would definitely have words to say about the disgruntled scowl curling across Katie’s lips. Making bets about her love life… As if she even has one. She and Bob are friends and nothing more.
At least, that’s what she tells herself. What she’s currently hell-bent on telling herself.
She steals a glance at Bob, then at Fanboy - and the scowl deepens. Bastard, she thinks.
This is going to be a long 3 months.
***
Instruction picks up right where it left off on Friday, with two-man hops and simulated bombing runs and death by classroom lecture. The first half of the day sees Fanboy and Halfpint paired with Airbud, a single-seater pilot, and their hop goes as well as it’s expected to.
Where it all goes to shit is during the second half of the day, when Katie finds herself paired with Melendez.
Melendez isn’t a team player; she made that much clear during the first week. Of course, nobody really realizes it until one person or the other is paired up with her for flight ops. Nobody knows which is worse: the fact that she’s maliciously cocky in and out of the cockpit, or that she peppers her shit-talking with musings of being a TOPGUN instructor. She’s not making friends with anyone here - and it seems like everyone else is happy to keep it that way.
So why Katie finds herself jogging after her on the tarmac and calling out to her is completely beyond comprehension.
“Melendez!” she yells over the whistling roar of their jet engines.
She doesn’t hear her. Either that, or she ignores her. It doesn’t matter to Katie. She jogs after Melendez, reaches a hand out to touch her shoulder.
And damn-near gets decked with a fistful of equipment.
“What?” Melendez snaps. “What the fuck do you want?”
“Whoa, hey-” Katie’s hands are up instantly, and she takes a step back, opens up the space between them. Maybe this wasn’t such a good idea… “I just wanna talk, that’s all.”
“Yeah? About what?”
Katie closes her eyes, sucks in a deep breath. She’s gonna have to make this quick.
“Look - things got off on the wrong foot last week. I was hoping maybe we could reset and try again.”
“‘Reset and try again’?”
Melendez is mocking her, or getting ready to do it, at least. Fuck, Katie knew this was a bad idea.
She stands tall, gives a single, curt nod. “Yeah.” This conversation may be going south faster than she would’ve hoped, but she’s not about to tuck tail.
Laughter bursts from Melendez's mouth, a loud, raucous guffaw of… Disbelief? Amusement? Katie’s not sure - but the laughter all the same can’t be a good sign, not when she’s trying to extend an olive branch.
It starts with a smile, a malicious one.  “Look, blanquita, I dunno what you’re on right now, but let’s get somethin’ straight. We’re not friends; we’re competition - and even if we weren’t competin’ there’s no fuckin’ way I’d wanna be friends with you.”
Her response doesn’t really shock Katie. At least, the first part of it doesn’t.
It’s the second part that throws her.
“You little white girls are all the same,” Melendez says, voice laced with poison. “You try to be friends with everyone so no one calls you out for being trash. Make me look like the bad guy for callin’ you out on your shit.”
“I don’t-”
“Shut the fuck up, yes you do. Grow up, blanquita. Stop tryin’ to be everyone’s friend and do your fuckin’ job, if you even can. They can’t help you if you suck.”
And with that, Melendez pivots on one heel, and continues her march to her jet. She spares no second glance at Katie, who stands stock-still for a moment, blinking and staring at the spot she previously occupied.
She didn’t think it was going to go that bad, but… yikes. That was pretty fucking bad.
And the worst part of it? Maybe Melendez has a point.
It’s a thought that plagues Katie as she climbs into the cockpit of her F-18, and takes off for an exercise that sees Melendez push her around and leave her feeling like shit about her flying. Maybe she’s right. Maybe she does suck and is trying to distract from it. It wouldn’t be the first time someone’s told Katie that she doesn’t measure up and that she’s only lying to herself.
You know you’re not cut out for this. Why do you insist on embarrassing yourself?
No. No, no, no. Fuck that.
Whether or not Melendez is right, it doesn’t matter. Katie can’t let that get to her. She’s worked far too hard and for far too long to be derailed by some little Brooklynite trying to pick a fight with her.
Melendez wants competition? Fine then. Competition is what she’ll get.
She’s gonna wish she hadn’t, though.
***
The next day is much better - Katie’s relegated to an observer position while two other teams are sent up in the air. The two teams in question? Bojack and Wolverine, and Bones, Bob, and his front-seater Rapture.
Now, everyone at TOPGUN knows as well as the next person that each pilot and NFO has their own distinct magic, that little bit of something that sets them above and apart from their peers in the aviation community. Katie’s knack for quick absorption is unparalleled. Fanboy and Halfpint are fast, efficient, precise. Hell, even Melendez has her magic; her doggedness and tenacity in the air make her one hell of a pilot.
And then there’s Bob.
Bob is a goddamn crack shot. His rate of accuracy is so near-perfect that it’s almost a little frightening to watch him and his front-seater rain destruction down below them. Of course, Rapture is plenty accurate and deadly on his own - but with Bob? Their targets don’t stand a chance. Rapture’s WSO is sharp and laser-focused and on the money every damn time, a deadeye of epic proportions.
Katie can’t help but smile as she listens in on the radio chatter in the ready room and hears Bob and his front-seater slam-dunk the exercise. They’ve got their targets zeroed and smoldering within minutes, a far cry better than most of the others in class.
Certainly a far cry better than her and Melendez yesterday. It stings, just the tiniest bit, but she tries not to let it bother her. Besides, why should it bother her that someone who’s clearly meant to be here just killed their bombing run?
This boy is gonna be the one to blow them all out of the water. Katie just knows it.
“Jesus - remind me never to cross you,” she murmurs to Bob after debrief. “You were like fuckin’ Annie Oakley out there.”
Bob’s mouth screws up in a small grin. “Yeah, well, Annie Oakley appreciates that. It’s nice when your peers tell you how lethal you are.”
“Oh, you. Still wanna grab Chipotle with me, Fanboy, and Halfpint?”
“Thought you’d never ask.” Bob matches his pace with Katie’s, sets his garrison cap upon his golden-brown head. “I’ve been dreaming of a double-protein bowl since Fanboy brought it up this morning.”
“You earned it, that’s for sure.”
He smiles again, wider and happier, and it sends a flutter through Katie’s chest. “I aim to please.”
And he certainly does. Bob Floyd is an incredibly gifted aviator. There’s no doubt that he will take top spot in their class. No doubt at all.
And, quite frankly, Katie thinks, it couldn’t happen to a better person.

“Do you drink coffee?”
It’s barely past 0630 on Wednesday, and Katie is already receiving texts - and from Bob, no less.
At first she’s confused. She’s in the Navy; of course she drinks coffee. Caffeinated beverages are practically her lifeblood.
Her brow furrows as she picks up her phone to respond. “Yeah? Lol. Why do you ask?”
A bare 10 seconds pass before a response is shooting into her inbox. “I’m brewing some in my room,” the text reads. “Happy to make you a cup if you’d like one.”
Hm. An impromptu coffee date with Bob Floyd. Even if it is ridiculously early in the morning, Katie has to admit, that sounds quite nice.
“Sure, I’ll swing by. What’s your room number?”
“224. Just a heads up, I split the room with Rapture and he might be here when you come down. Sorry for that btw.”
“No worries. Be down in a minute.”
Thankfully, neither of them have to worry about Bob’s front-seater when she appears at his front door moments later. He’s stepping out as she’s coming in, heading off for breakfast in the lobby.
Which leaves Katie quite alone with Bob in his room.
Somewhere in the back of her mind, a small ripple of excitement passes through as she steps into the hotel room and shuts the door behind her.
Living spaces, no matter how temporary, have always been an interesting thing for Katie. They paint a picture of the person occupying it, shed light on the parts hidden by polite social interactions and facades.
Bob’s living space is simultaneously everything Katie figured it would be and absolutely nothing like what she thought. Frank Herbert’s Dune rests on the coffee table in the living room area, but so too does a battered, oft-read copy of Robert Jordan’s The Eye of the World and Pathfinder’s Core Rulebook. A sticker-emblazoned gaming laptop with a pulsating rainbow-colored keyboard rests on the kitchen counter, but it’s streaming soft, soothing coffeehouse jazz. And the coffee that Bob offered earlier? He has a whole setup for it, complete with a hand-cranked coffee grinder, water boiling on the stove in a lodge-supplied tea kettle, and a small French press. Whatever images or preconceived notions Katie had about Bob’s living space have been all but obliterated at this point.
It’s more than that, though. The contents of the hotel room prove that things are nowhere near as simplified as she would’ve thought. There are layers to Bob; that much has been apparent since the moment they first met. Still, Katie didn’t think she’d ever really get to see them. The fact that she’s now standing here, seeing these parts of him - hell, that he’s letting her see these parts of him…
She might actually have butterflies in her stomach right now.
Bob putters around the small kitchen space with his flight suit half-zipped and the sleeves tied tight around his waist, one hand gripping the coffee grinder while the other cranks the handle. His face holds an expression of calm, collected concentration, almost like an artist’s. It’s a creative process for him, Katie realizes. How very him.
“Do you take anything in your coffee?”
Katie makes a noise of indifference as she seats herself at the countertop. “Not really. I kind of just drink it how it’s presented to me.”
“Are you sure?”
“I’m sure. Why the double-check?”
“Well,” he replies as he dumps the freshly ground beans into the French press, “I ask because some people don’t like how I present coffee to them. I drink coffee black because it lets me taste the flavors and undertones better, but I know a lot of people who think drinking black coffee is like drinking charcoal, so…”
“So give it to me black then.” When Bob makes a noise of protest, Katie rolls her eyes but smiles endearingly. “I’m a big girl, Bob. I can handle a little bitterness.”
Bob only nods as he pours hot water into the press, then presses the grounds to the bottom with the plunger. When he pours the resulting liquid into a mug and slides it towards Katie, he does so with a look of nervous anticipation on his face, almost like her reaction determines how the rest of the morning - maybe even the day - plays out.
Lucky for him, Katie’s reaction when she takes her first sip of coffee is a highly positive one. She’s no connoisseur; she can’t taste any flavors or notes or undertones, but she knows for damn sure that it’s a good cup of coffee. It’s smooth, warm and roasty, but not burnt. Clearly, Bob has good taste in the stuff.
She smirks around the brim of her mug. “Well, it’s definitely not Maxwell House,” she says before taking another sip, a bigger one.
“God, I hope that’s a good thing.”
“It is. Don’t get me wrong, there’s a special place in my heart for the cheap shit, but sometimes I want a cup of coffee that doesn’t taste like dirt.”
“Well then,” Bob replies as he seats himself beside her, “I’m happy to give you that second cup.”
“I’m happy to have it with you.”
She says it before her brain can catch up with her mouth. It’s hardly that loaded of a statement, and somewhere in the back of her head, Katie knows that - but it doesn’t stop her from blushing, and damn-near crimson at that. Where did that come from?
What’s funny, though, is that Bob is blushing too, and just as red as Katie, if not more. It makes her wonder what’s going through his head in that moment.
He takes a long, drawn-out sip of coffee, likely to help steady his nerves. “Uh, you know… I do this every day. Brew up some coffee, sit down, take some time to relax before class…” He takes another steadying sip of coffee, and the mug trembles in his hand, just the tiniest bit. “It’d be nice to have some company. Y’know, whenever.”
The words hang in the air, and Katie contemplates them. It’s not like Bob asked her to marry him, but she can tell that even asking for something as low-key as a shared coffee before class is out of his comfort zone. That he’s putting himself out there like this, that he’s doing it for her, no less…
Katie would be lying if she said her heart didn’t flutter in her chest.
A small smile graces her face. “Happy to come by whenever,” she finally replies.
She’s never been so glad to have accepted an invitation.
***
Thursday rolls around with another round of paired hops and simulated bombing runs. Katie’s up first this time, paired with Fanboy and Halfpint. She’s had time to get her head on straight after Tuesday’s less-than-stellar hop with Melendez - and now? Her head’s more than screwed on straight; it’s a steel trap, a loaded spring ready to explode and execute. She’s pissed at how Tuesday went, and she wants that feeling of competence back.
She can feel Melendez’s eyes boring into her as she passes by the ready room, can feel her smirking and sneering at her. No doubt she’s thinking there’s going to be a repeat of Tuesday’s hop. Like hell.
The run winds up being everything Katie expects it to be and hopes for - her, Fanboy, and Halfpint all working together seamlessly and efficiently, zeroing their targets and raining ultra-precise hellfire down on them, getting in and getting out with not a second wasted. It’s everything Tuesday should’ve been, and everything the rest of her time here at TOPGUN will be.
Needless to say, Melendez is no longer smirking when they all come out of debrief an hour later.
And that is enough to put a smile on Katie’s face.
***
It’s Friday night, and all Katie wants to do is have a beer. A Deschutes beer, specifically. Something that she knows the Hard Deck doesn’t have on tap - not that she’s really complaining. She’s not in much of a mood to “go out” tonight.
She could, however, wrangle up a friend or two to occupy the covered patio out back. That has the makings of a good time tonight.
All she needs to do is grab a six-pack.
It’s multitasking at its finest as she grabs her wallet and taps out a quick text to Bob. “Any interest in drinking tonight?” she asks him casually. “I’m about to head over to the NEX to get some beer.”
The reply comes back sooner than Katie thought it would. “Funny you mention that; I’m actually at the NEX right now. What do you want? I can grab it for you.”
Huh. Well how about that.
“Do they have Deschutes there?”
“I’ll take a look. What’s your plan b if they don’t?”
“Uhhhhhh Kona beer? If they have Longboard or Hanalei then that’ll work.”
“On it. I’ll let you know when I’m on my way back.”
“Sweet, sounds good.”
Well, that was easy enough. All Katie needs to do now is wrangle up some more company.
She swaps over to her chat thread with Fanboy, begins to type. “Feel like drinking on the back patio tonight? Bob’s grabbing beer at the NEX; if you want anything I can text him and tell him to grab it for you.”
She’s slipping an old red hooded flannel over her t-shirt when she gets a reply back from Fanboy - a picture, says the notification. When she opens the message, laughter bursts from her. Fanboy’s sent her a picture of himself jutting his thumb over his shoulder - and who happens to be standing behind him, holding up a six-pack of Shiner Bock and making a face for the camera?
None other than Bob.
“Wayyyyy ahead of u fam,” he replies in a second text. “Also Bob says they got deschutes here. They got fresh squeezed IPA and squeezy rider IPA.”
“Ooooooooh definitely Squeezy Rider. Please and thank you.”
“Bet. Grab us a spot downstairs? We’ll be back in 10.”
“Will do.”
Without another word or text sent, Katie trots off for the elevator and makes her way downstairs, shuffling through the lobby to the back patio area, which is lit by the soft glow of brass torches. Coupled with several cushy seats in the area and the soft crash of the tide in the near distance, it provides just the right amount of relaxation and ambience for an easy Friday night in.
She folds herself into one of the lounge chairs, starts up one of her quieter shoegaze playlists, smiling to herself. Yeah, this was definitely a good call for tonight.
True to their word, Fanboy and Bob come waltzing through the door ten minutes later, each with beers in one hand and what looks like a bag of snacks in the other. For Fanboy, it’s Takis and mini pretzels. For Bob, it’s cool ranch flavored sunflower seeds and smoked mini sausages. Sure, it’s not the most inspired bunch of snacks - but food is food, and Katie is glad they at least had the thought to get some.
“You’re a peach,” Katie beams when Bob comes over and hands off the coveted six-pack to her. “How much do I owe you?”
Bob waves the question off and shakes his head. “Don’t worry about it.”
“No, c’mon, lemme pay you back-”
“Sand Trap, seriously, it’s fine.” He grins at Katie as he takes the lounge seat opposite hers, all nice and easygoing and good-natured, but the glint in his eyes makes it clear that the issue is no longer up for discussion.
Well. Bob might not have taken very well to growing up in the South, but he sure as hell has the ‘southern gentleman’ mannerisms down pat. Isn’t that nice.
Still, Katie can’t help but grumble. “Fine, but I’m buying next time.” She settles back in her seat, twists off the top on beer number one. She doubts he’ll let her pay for whatever it is they buy next time, but damned if she’s not going to try.
“Yeah,” Bob hums around his first bottle of Shiner Bock, “we’ll see about that.”
“I’m sure we will.” Yep, she was right about that one. Not giving it up that easily. Not that it’s a bad thing. Katie likes a guy with a sense of chivalry. “Pass me some of those sausages.”
Bob obliges, holding out the open bag to her, and she grabs a handful and fastens one between her lips. It’s punchy, full of minced hatch chilis and spice, a nice counter to the languid citrus haze of her beer. Not bad for cheap snack food from the NEX.
“These are good,” she murmurs after a bite of sausage and a swallow of beer. “I’m gonna have to start buying these.” A snicker bubbles out of her mouth after a second. “Maybe that’s how I’ll repay you, Bob - just buy you a giant bag of hatch chili sausages.”
“Sand Trap-”
“Oh, c’mon Bob, I gotta repay you somehow! Lemme be nice!” Katie laughs, giggles tremoring in her chest as she takes another swill of beer. “Lemme be your friend and repay the favor.”
“You’re a plenty good enough friend without having to buy me stuff.”
And so the banter circles, and circles, and circles again. Katie’s not going to lie, it’s tiresome - but she keeps it up all the same. After all, it’s nice seeing Bob relax, nice seeing him engage in the dumb antics and arguments most others get themselves into.
It’s nice seeing him comfortable.
Speaking of being comfortable…
“Hey Bob?”
“Mmm?”
“You can call me Katie.” She can feel Fanboy’s amused side-eye boring into her the second she says it, but she doesn’t give a damn. Bob’s been her friend long enough; he’s certainly earned the privilege.
His blue eyes glimmer behind his glasses, and the corners of them crinkle in time with the grin that spreads across his face. He says nothing, but he doesn’t have to - the look on his face says everything.
“What about me? Can I call you Katie?”
“Loser - we literally established this the day we met!”
“I know, but I wanted to get in on the moment! It was too cute to pass up!”
“You are the absolute worst,” Katie snickers before flicking a bottle cap in Fanboy’s direction.
And there the three of them sit, drinking well into the wee hours of the night, snarking and poking fun at each other, vibing, laughing, living, basking.
Few things truly are better than drinking with one’s fellow aviators.

Week 3. Coffee with Bob in his hotel room at 0630 is a fairly daily occurrence now. Katie makes a note in her head that Monday morning to get her hands on some good coffee beans later in the day. It seems like the only proper ‘thank you’ for the man who’s been sharing his small supply of caffeine with her this past week.
They’re sitting at his counter, scribbling their last little bits of homework before the day starts, sipping from their mugs while the usual coffeehouse jazz streams from his computer. Katie should be kicking herself for not having this done the night before, but she can’t be bothered to care too much. If anything, doing it now gives her a chance to cross-check things afterwards with Bob.
Or so she says.
“Y’know, it really is fascinating, what you can accomplish when you procrastinate,” Katie muses.
“If stress and anxiety weren’t side effects of it, I’d do it more often.”
“Agreed. Although I’m not sure what you have to be stressed or anxious about. You’re easily the smartest guy in our class. If anything, I feel like this whole thing should be a slam dunk for you.”
Bob shrugs. “It’s only easy because I have my setup to worry about, nothing else. Point, shoot, done. You, on the other hand, have my ultimate respect because you do that AND fly at the same time.”
“I don’t think I’m very good at it, though. I’m doing my damnedest to prove my worth, but… I dunno.” Katie’s lips purse as she looks down at her work, scribbles in her final notes. “Honest truth? I dunno how I even wound up here. There are definitely way better pilots out there. They’d be more deserving of a spot here than me.” She’s stopped writing at this point, gaze downcast and jaw clenching tighter and tighter. God, how it pains her to admit that, but she knows it’s true. She’s been told that her whole life; it’s not like she can just wipe it from her mind, her entire existence. Hell, she heard it from Melendez last week. No amount of anger, hard work, or successful hops can erase that.
Why do you bother? You’re not good enough. You’ll never be good enough for them, Katherine Mae… They don’t know you like I do…
They don’t love you like I do.
“Well, I think that’s a crock of shit,” Bob declares, voice cutting through the poison swirling in Katie’s head. “You’re a hell of a pilot, Sand Trap; someone clearly thought you deserve to be here. And I know that whoever sent you here, they’re not the only one thinking that.”
“Oh yeah? You one of those other people?” Katie mutters.
There’s a beat of silence. Then…
“Yeah, actually, I am.”
Katie blinks, looks over at Bob, finds herself looking into his eyes, that endless stretch of cerulean. There’s an earnestness in them that makes her stomach clench and her breath hitch, just the tiniest bit. It’s not often that she hears serious reassurance like that. In fact, it’s rare, so rare that Katie finds herself at a bit of a loss for words. Or proper response. Or anything, really, because not only is it coming from a colleague of hers, it’s coming from him, from Bob, and how the fuck is she supposed to react to that, to someone like him actually giving a shit?
She feels her face growing hot, burning red. She drops her head down, low enough so that he can’t see the embarrassment scorching across it. “Thanks,” she mumbles.
Out of the corner of her eye, she sees Bob smile. “I’d fly with you any day of the week and twice on Sunday, Sand Trap.”
Her whole body is burning now, and whether it’s with pride, pleasure, or shame, she’s not sure. Whatever the case may be, it’s a first for her.
She needs to speak. That’s what she needs to do.
It’s on the tip of her tongue to tell Bob ‘thank you’, to say some sort of one-and-done pleasantry - but all she can think to say, in that exact moment, is…
“Thought I told you to call me Katie, Bob.”
Though he seems momentarily taken aback by the answer (maybe he was anticipating her saying ‘thank you’ too), Bob chuckles, his cheeks tinted with the barest hint of red.
“I’ll keep that in mind from now on, Katie.”
This time, Katie doesn’t even try to hide her face when heat tears across her cheeks. Something about Bob using her first name the way that he does, so innocent and personal… It does something to her. What the hell’s happening to her?
She coughs, cobbles her things together and tosses them into her black backpack. “We don’t, um… have that much time left before class. I’m just - I’m - um, I’m gonna go-” It’s abrupt, out of nowhere, and certainly nowhere near the calm, cool, and easygoing responses she usually gives, and all she wants to do immediately after saying it is kick herself, because Jesus Christ, could she look like any more of a psychotic dweeb?
Bob, poor thing, seems just as confused. “Okay… Um… Guess I’ll see you in class then.”
Katie’s bolting out of the room and shutting the door behind her before ‘yep’ has even passed her lips. She doesn’t want to stick around long enough for him to see the internal meltdown she’s about to suffer. He definitely doesn’t need to see that.
“Seriously, Katie?” she hisses to herself as she marches down the hallway to the elevators. “What the fuck was that? He used your first name - after you LITERALLY told him to! Could you have reacted any more weirdly to that?”
Well, I don’t know - when was the last time you let yourself entertain ANY sort of male attention? Especially from someone that you, oh, I don’t know, MIGHT HAVE AN INTEREST IN?
Could she, though? Could she really?
No, Katie decides - no, insists - in the elevator ride down to the lobby. She and Bob are friends, nothing more. That’s the way it will be - the way it has to be.
Anything more than that and she risks opening wounds and exposing truths that should never see the light of day.
She shakes her head with a quiet snarl, makes her way out of the lodge and off to her car.
She’s gonna have to have a long conversation with herself when she’s done with everything for the day - a very fucking long one.
***
It’s Tuesday evening, a late one. Katie’s been staring at the same piece of instruction on aerial bombing maneuvers for the last half hour now and none of the information has absorbed into her brain. Whether it’s due to the late hours or the fact that it’s fairly complex material, it’s refusing to stick - and Katie is rapidly losing her patience with it.
With a huff of exasperated resignation, she tosses the paper away with no concern about where it lands, and thumps back against her bed’s headboard. What use is there in trying to force memorization? At this point she’s been reading and rereading the same three sentences with no clue of what they’re saying. Better to just say ‘fuck it’ for the night and pick up where she left off tomorrow, when her brain - and patience - is refreshed.
She lets her eyes slide shut with a sigh, thoughts tapering off into nothingness, welcoming the call of a peaceful night’s sleep…
Until the sound of her phone buzzing, rattling on the nightstand jars her awake again.
The phone continues to buzz on the nightstand, her sister’s name and number scrolling across the screen. Katie frowns. Naomi’s talkative, sure, but she’s not really the type to reach out with a phone call - not unless there’s something going on. What could be going on at close to 2230 on a Tuesday, Katie’s not sure, but she hopes it’s nothing too serious.
She rolls over, grabs the phone off the nightstand, accepts the call. “Hey kiddo, what’s up?”
“Katherine.”
Katie’s stomach lurches and her blood runs cold. Her. Oh god, her.
It’s a fight to maintain composure, to not fly into a seething, furious rage at the mere sound of her voice. Four years since she last saw her and Katie’s still licking the wounds from her last encounter with her. This bitch is the last person she wants to talk to.
“Carrie.”
She makes a sound on the other end - a ‘tut’ of disdain, Katie realizes. Jesus - is she actually thinking of scolding her, of shaming her?”
“‘Carrie’? Is that any way to address the woman who gave birth to you? I-”
“You lost that ‘mom’ title a long time ago and you know it,” she hisses before immediately closing her eyes and clenching her jaw. Fuck, fuck fuck fuck, she can’t be snapping like that. It’s how she pulls her into her bullshit; it’s how she’s always done it. Katie needs to calm down, and fast.
She inhales through her nose, exhales forcefully, grips the phone tight in her hand, evens her breathing and pitch. “What do you want?”
“Well, I want to talk to you,” Carrie replies, as if the answer is obvious. “I just found out that my oldest daughter’s on the West Coast; why else would I be calling?”
“Did it ever occur to you that maybe I don’t want to talk to you?” No, of course not, Katie thinks. This is her mother; the only person she’s ever paid close attention to is herself. The feelings and boundaries of her kids don’t matter to her. They never have.
“Why would you say something so horrible? What have I done to deserve that?”
Katie doesn’t even try to swallow her cackle of incredulity. “Are you serious? Do you want a list of all the shit you’ve done? I mean Jesus Carrie, you stole Naomi’s phone to get to me!”
“Let me remind you that I pay the bills in this family, and that includes the one for your sister’s phone. I may allow her to use it, but this is MY phone, understand?”
She’s pulling her into her bullshit already; Katie can feel it. Her immediate response should be to cut her off and end the conversation right here, just like she’s done countless times before - and yet, she can’t. It’s been a long week and it’s not even over yet. She’s tired, her guard is down, and after the last two minutes, her blood pressure is climbing and threatening to spill over. If anyone should know how pissed off and exhausted she is, it’s Carrie.
“Do you hear yourself? What kind of fucked up ‘no privacy’ bullshit are you on?”
“Oh, don’t you lecture me, Katherine Mae. I do what I do to keep this family together. And if this is what I have to do to keep my other daughter from abandoning it like you did, then so be it.”
Oh, that’s it. That’s fucking it. Katie’s not doing this anymore.
“Well, you clearly haven’t changed, so I no longer feel compelled to keep this conversation going.”
“Katherine, don’t you dare-”
“I’m done, Carrie. Give Naomi her phone back and don’t call me again.”
Katie then disconnects the call before Carrie has the chance to protest, the action decisive, unwavering, final. She should’ve ended that call a long time ago, and she knows she’ll be kicking herself for it later, but she’s out of it now and that’s all that matters. That bitch isn’t getting to her anymore tonight; she won’t let her.
But goddamn, did she come close to it.
Worse still, Katie knows it probably won’t be the only time that it happens - that Carrie finds ways to pull her back into her lies and abuse. This is only the start. And though she might’ve had the strength to shut Carrie down this time, there’s no guarantee that she’ll have it for the next run-in with her.
And that? That scares Katie. It scares the living shit out of her.
She needs an escape. Now. Before the memories threaten to consume her.
She slips in her Airpods, puts on Drop Nineteens’ Kick the Tragedy, cranks the volume to drown out the voices and nightmares swirling in her head, and pulls her knees tight to her chest, trembling.
It’s a position she stays locked in for the rest of the night.
***
“Does this instruction make any sense to you or am I just stupid?”
Katie’s currently sitting at a corner table in the buffet area with Bob, surrounded by notebooks, scattered sheets of paper, and small stacks of flight manuals. The piece of instruction Katie’s currently focused on is the same one from the night before, but she’s reading and poring over it with a renewed sense of determination (and spite, if she’s being honest) - or, at least, she’s trying to. It’s still as dense and heavy as when she last read it and it’s still not willing to stick in her brain.
She groans loudly when Bob glances over at the paper and shakes his head, thumps her head into her forearms. “I’m so fucked for this test on Friday,” she moans. “This is 65 percent of what we’re being tested on and I can’t” - thump - “fucking” - thump - “understand it.”
“Maybe put it down then, focus on something else?”
“I dunno. Maybe. My brain’s soup at this point.”
“Hm.” Bob drums his fingers contemplatively on the tabletop, seems to rack his brain for a solution. It isn’t until he glances down at the watch fastened around his wrist, though, that he comes up with something - and that ‘something’ involves him packing up all their study materials, rising to his feet, and gently pulling Katie to her feet by her elbow.
At first, she’s confused. “What are you doing?”
“Stopping for the night. We’ve been at this for the last four hours and it’s almost 11.”
“So?”
“So, that would explain why you’re having a hard time absorbing material,” Bob explains. “You’re tired; your brain’s not gonna absorb much when you’re tired.”
He says it so calmly, so simply. Fuck, it is simple, and Katie knows it. But, somewhere in the back of her mind… she can’t bring herself to go along with it. She’s a fighter pilot. More importantly, she’s a 1% fighter pilot in arguably the most challenging course the Navy has to offer. She should be soaking this material up, not getting stuck on the particulars of two-man air-to-surface strikes, literally the simplest shit. What kind of pilot is she if she can’t even figure this out? A lousy one, that’s what-
“Katie.”
Bob’s voice seems to melt through the nagging in her head, rendering it to little more than a whisper. She blinks, slowly, drifts back into reality, her very tired, very sleep-deprived reality.
Okay. Maybe he has a point. Exhaustion is definitely doing a number on her.
But hell if she’s going to admit it out loud.
Somewhat thankfully, Bob seems to pick up on that reluctance and speaks for her. “Here, I’ll walk you up.” He reaches a hand out, as if to touch her, but seems to think better of it after a second and pulls it back, choosing instead to nod in the direction of the elevators. “C’mon.”
They’re quiet as he escorts Katie up to the third floor and down the corridors to her room. When they finally come to a stop at her door, the exhaustion has set in with a swiftness and intensity she hasn’t seen since she was in OCS. She wonders briefly how she ever managed to power through it.
Bob takes her key card, swipes it across the reader and opens the door for her. “Get some sleep,” he tells her, voice soft. “I’ll hit you up in the morning, ‘kay?”
Katie nods mutely, steps over the threshold, allows Bob to pull the door closed. The exhaustion is weighing on her so heavily now that she doesn’t even react when it thuds shut more loudly than she’s used to.
Bob’s right - she really does need to sleep.
She trudges into her bedroom, fingers fumbling as she sets an alarm for 0600, then tosses the phone on the nightstand and falls face-first into the bed. She’s asleep seconds after her head hits the pillow, but not before her thoughts give a final whirl ‘round the study material, her pride in being a pilot, and her soft-spoken, bespectacled WSO classmate - the one who will be there for her in the morning.
And sure enough, he is, for when Katie wakes up the next day at 06, there’s a single-word text waiting for her in her messages:
“Coffee?”
***
Two days later, after an extended study session with Bob and Fanboy the night before, Katie walks out of the test on Friday with two errors shy of a perfect score. The ironic part? The errors were on material completely unrelated to what she’d been stressing over two days ago.
When she tells Bob and Fanboy as much on their way back to the lodge, they each respond with a shake of their head and a quiet laugh.
“See, smartypants?” Fanboy says. “Told ya you’d be fine. Gotta learn to trust yourself more.”
“Yeah, I’m working on that. Celebratory beer at the Hard Deck later?”
“Don’t have to convince me.” Fanboy looks over at Bob, raises a questioning, but friendly eyebrow at him. “You tagging along or are you laying low?”
“I mean, I gotta take a nap and catch up on the sleep I lost last night,” Bob replies casually, “but, uh… I could be persuaded.” He looks directly at Katie when he says the last part, making it abundantly clear that if anyone’s going to persuade him, it’s going to be her.
And goddamn, if that doesn’t set the butterflies afrenzy in her stomach.
“Yeah, I’ll, uh, I’ll let you know what’s going on.” Katie’s attempt at replying in equally casual fashion is damn-near a failure; the pitch of her voice squeaks higher with each word she speaks. She’s not sure why it’s happening, but speaking or replying to Bob these days seems to be doing a number on her nerves. “Honestly, I’m probably gonna take a nap too; I’m feeling kinda’ dead.”
“How late did you guys stay up after I left?” Fanboy asks them quizzically.
Katie shakes her head. “Trust me, you don’t wanna know.” She herself is running on five hours of sleep; nerves and stress made it difficult for her to rack out at her usual time, wiring her awake well into the wee hours of the morning. A nap is an absolute necessity at this point if she has any desire to socialize later. “Meet up in the lobby in a couple hours?”
Bob nods. “Works for me.”
The three of them pile into Katie’s 4Runner and putter their way back to the lodge, Catherine Wheel thrumming from the speakers as the mid-afternoon sun brightens the world around them. Were it not for the fact that she wants to be horizontal for her nap, Katie would be damn tempted to put her seat back and catch up on sleep in the warmth of her car.
Bob splits off from Fanboy and Katie in the parking lot, leaving the two of them to stroll into the lobby together and ride an elevator up to their respective floors. For the most part, it’s quiet, comfortably shared silence between two friends. It’s short-lived, however; just before the elevator dings to a stop at his floor, Fanboy leans in towards Katie, eyebrow quirked inquiringly, smugly.
“So, not a whole lotta sleep between you two… Was that all code for something and I just completely missed it, or-”
“Fanboy, I swear to God-”
Fanboy only snickers before splitting off for his room on the second floor, leaving Katie alone and red-faced in the elevator. Jesus Christ - if he keeps making comments like that, she might actually have to kill him.
“‘Code for something’...” Katie mutters when the elevator reaches the third floor and she stomps off to her room. “Fucking menace.” If she didn’t know any better, she’d say that Fanboy was actively trying to push her and Bob together.
Whatever. She’s not going to dedicate anymore thought to it, no sir - especially when she’s tired and still coming down from the stress of their test earlier.
She loosens her laces and kicks off her flight boots, falling into the mattress with her hair still bunned and flight suit still zipped, settling in for some sleep that practically blacks her out for the next few hours.
Later, after a nice, long, well-deserved nap and some dedicated relaxation time, the three of them are clustered around a high-top table at the Hard Deck, a small bowl of salted peanuts in the middle, beers of various brands in hand as they muse about their first three weeks at TOPGUN. They decide that, for as hard and as break-neck fast as it’s been going, all in all, it hasn’t been a bad experience so far. They’re conditions befitting their jobs - and lord knows, it hasn’t been boring.
“Kinda’ makes me worry, though,” Bob murmurs. “We’re only three weeks in and it’s already been a helluva challenge. What are the other ten gonna be like?”
Fanboy snorts, takes a swill of his pilsner. “You’re not telling me you’re scared, are you?”
“Apprehensive is more like it.”
“Eh, same difference. Not like you need to be scared though. It’s obvious you’re top brain in the class. You’ll get through this shit just fine.”
“Yeah, so I’ve been told.” Bob’s eyes dart over to Katie for the briefest moment, holding her gaze for an even briefer moment before returning to the bottle in his hand. “I’m just waiting to see where Everhardt takes us next, and, y’know, trying to prepare myself for it.”
“Understandable.”
“I mean, if the next ten weeks are anything like the last three, just assume he’s gonna try to run us into the ground and proceed from there,” Katie shrugs. “I’ve already resigned myself to getting my ass handed to me; you might as well do the same.”
“Says the girl who aced her test earlier,” Fanboy scoffs.
“Almost aced her test earlier.”
“Oh whatever. You’re smart. You’ll be fine. Fuck, you’ll both be fine; you guys’ll probably take the top two spots.”
“Well, I’m certainly gonna try,” Bob murmurs with a bashful smile. “Can’t be helped if I get bested by this girl over here though.”
Fanboy shakes his head and sighs, but he does it with a smirk on his face. “This guy…”
“Nah, you’ll definitely best me, Bob; there’s no question about it.”
“We’ll see about that,” he replies. “May the best aviator win.”
“I’ll drink to that.” Katie raises her bottle. “While we’re at it, here’s to making it through air-to-surface.”
“And the first three weeks,” Fanboy chimes in as he raises his.
Bob’s the last to raise his, and his accompanying sentiment really rounds the evening out. “Onward to the next and best.”

I know you turned off Twitter but I wondered if you saw Ainsley’s (actress who plays Jet) tweet? It’s not a spoiler but she basically was like “I know you’re all excited for the EO of it all but we’ve been working so hard on the upcoming episodes and stuff” and Chris liked it
And idk why it’s been bugging me but I guess at first I felt bad reading that because obviously everyone on all three shows work extremely hard and long hours for the product we get to see every week and I’m sure it may be annoying for actors who are not CandM to see us tweeting about EO and how excited we are because of the promo and being like… these fans have no idea how hard we work all the time grrr
But on the other hand a big part of me is like Ainsley stfu we are allowed to be BIGGG excited about EO possibly moving forward! We have waited literally her entire lifetime for something to happen between them and us being hype about it doesn’t demean the work you and everyone else on the shows do every week. Like honestly OC is good but it’s not really for me tbh I mainly watch it because I really like jet and bell and I’m waiting for any EO crumbs that may come our way like PacMan.
Anyways not sure why but I keep thinking about her tweet but it like… dampens my impending joy that I know we are more that likely going to get from the next SVU epi and that some of the actors are almost irritated by that. Like THE core couple of the show that’s been running since fucking 1999 may get together soon… why the fuck shouldn’t fans be freaking the fuck out?!! It’s one of the things that keeps us watching!
Also! Really love the new Mia story and can’t wait to devour the next chapter!! ❤️❤️❤️
I mean this in the nicest way I possibly can but: please chill down and cut Ainsley some slack.
Tumblr media
That's literally all she said. Ainsley wasn't saying that it's not fair for people to be excited about EO or that people who are excited about EO have done something wrong. Ainsley wasn't trying to shame people for being excited about EO. This is Ainsley's first big TV show and it has been tumultuous behind the scenes with the constant shake ups in show runners and creative directions and the first arc of this season was frankly bad tho they are improving in the second arc, and thru all this the oc team has been trying really, really hard to do the best they can with what they have been given. The show is finding its feet and Ainsley is excited about it and she should be. She's allowed to be.
For every single person even tangentially involved in SVU/oc their mentions are constantly full of people asking them questions about EO when that really has nothing to do with them. Chris can't post a political take without someone asking to see his ass and Dani can't post a selfie without someone asking when EO are gonna kiss, and on and on it goes. If I was them, I'd be frustrated, not bc EO isn't important but bc people @ the cast and then treat them like they're nothing. But that's NOT what Ainsley expressed in this tweet. There's no frustration or complaining there.
Ainsley wanted to hype up the work her crew has done, that they're excited about, that they're proud of, and that's ok. She wasn't saying it's either/or, or that being excited about one negates the other. She wasn't passing judgment or minimizing EO stans.
The tl;dr of it all is simply this: if you can, try to shift your perspective on this so that it doesn't bother you so much, bc I genuinely think no harm was intended, and you may personally feel better if you no longer feel attacked.

“Does it look like I just had bathroom sex?” TK asks when they’re done. He turns to look in the mirror as he buttons his shirt and finds himself a little flush, his hair a mess from where Carlos had been running his fingers through it.
Carlos hums. “Maybe a little,” he jokes, coming up behind him. He gives TK a lopsided grin as he bumps his shoulder.
He takes his phone from his pocket and passes it over with a blank contact page open. TK adds his info on autopilot and sends off a text to himself, reeling a little at the sweet look Carlos is sending his way.
It’s too fucking much.
TK kisses him again, full on the lips and a little dirty as he nips at his bottom lip one more time.
“Call me,” Carlos says into the shallow space between them before kissing him on the cheek in a way that should absolutely not be as polite an action as it is after what they just did up against the sink.
TK stops mid-button. He’s thrown off guard and he isn’t sure what to do about it.
“Yeah,” he gets out as Carlos holds the door open for him. He does a quick look around to make sure no one he knows is watching before exiting.
There’s a gentle tug at his wrist and TK spins around toward Carlos. “Gonna stick around a bit longer?”
“I think so,” he decides, slipping out of his grasp, because if there’s one thing he can be, it’s a tease.
He signals for Carlos to follow him back out onto the floor, and like that, they’re seamlessly back in the mix.

GX Rare Pair Week Day 1: Royalty, Childhood, Lock and key
“I have all my fics planned!” *has a crisis and proceeds to write almost nothing*
So here I am, late once again. May or may not write all the things I intended but I HAVE AN AGENDA TO FILL DAMNIT.
Managed to blend all three of em into one fic. Origin story I guess?
He doesn't remember how old he was, he doesn't remember where he was, but he remembers looking at the screen. A duel was airing - likely between Yugi and someone else but he's forgotten that too - and back then a lot of the common monster designs scared the daylights out of him; but then she took the field in a shower of sparkles and bright colors and Syrus was immediately mesmerized. She looked so real, so lifelike; she winked at the screen and his insides did funny things he didn't have words for.
"I wanna marry her!" he blurt, having little understanding of the concept other than it was something moms and dads do.
"What?"
Zane had been there too, so this must have been before their relationship all went downhill. Syrus turned to him and said with all the conviction his child self could muster, "I'm gonna marry her! When I'm older." Because it was only something adults did. "I'm gonna marry her!"
"That's…" Zane frowned at the screen. "That's a duel monster."
"So I can't?"
Looking back, Zane must have put conscious effort into his reply. "I…don't know if it's impossible…"
The noncommittal answer had been enough to convince Syrus that he would in fact marry the pretty duel monster lady when he was old enough. He spent weeks telling everyone with an ear. Hella embarrassing.
But Syrus was head over heels and on a mission back then; he wanted to know everything about the Dark Magician Girl.
*
As a child in the royal palace, Mana idolized Prince Atem. They were close, best of friends and it seemed inevitable to her that she would be one of his wives someday, perhaps even his favorite. The smiles he gave her always filled her with warmth.
She was still a child, just shy of adulthood for the times, when a vengeful thief shook the foundation of their lives and kickstarted a war. She was still a child when her best friend came to her bleeding out his life and asking a favor that would only ensure his death. She was a child who helped cast a spell to save a country, using Atem's soul as the lock and his name as the key. She was a child who held her best friend in her arms as he took his last breath, and she had to keep the scream trapped tight behind her teeth. She couldn't speak his name, and no one else would, not ever again, because she was the only one who remembered it. That had been her part to play.
She was an adult when she chose to bury that most precious of secrets with her.
"Are you sure about this?" Set asked as they stood before the blank stone tablet.
Mana clutched her staff hard enough to hurt. "Yes. No magic lasts forever. Someone has to be here to guide him if and when he ever returns. I cast the spell-" Her voice shook, she took a breath and forged onward. "-I'm the only one who remembers. It has to be me."
He looks confused of course, because no one else even realizes they can't remember the former Pharaoh's name. They all refer to him by title as if he'd never had a name at all, and do not question the blank cartouche with the name chiseled out. It's better this way; no one to ask questions, to goad into giving up the secret, they key she guards, but oh does it hurt.
"If you're sure," Set confirms again, and Mana nods resolutely.
Although the power of the items has faded, some magic still remains. Set raises the Rod and Mana gives herself up to the process, cold stone sealing itself around her body and binding her soul. Here she will wait until her Pharaoh needs her again.
*
3000 years later, the Dark Magician Girl is awakened by the magic of a single card and the shadows that dwell in the pendant hanging from a young man's neck. The lock has been cracked and the battle has begun anew.
They win for good this time. Atem passes on and Mana remains sealed in stone.
It was her choice.
When she meets the boy with bright eyes - warm and living and so very unreachable - is the first time she regrets that choice.

(A short story about friendship and being confronted with your demons even in the most expectant of places.)
“Come on, Lisa! Hurry!“, Tanja shouted, and her friend accelerated her steps, dodging the crowd and almost collided with a little boy who ran through her way, before she reached her friends. “Sorry, got distracted”, she explained out of breath, stroking the red locks behind her ear. Without rush, Tanja, Amy, and Lisa continued their way over the funfair. It was one of the biggest events coming around this year, and the three young friends had been excited about it for weeks. All the colored lights, screams, and shouts and happy laughter made it hard to remember that everyone had their troubles in life.
Everything seemed so timeless around here. People came to places like this for entertainment, they spent their free time here, to forget their problems, have fun and be with their loved ones, friends, partners, and children. Almost two hours the girls spent with auto-scooter. They just enjoyed running into each other over and over again, laughing their lungs out and getting upset looks from grandpas with their grandchildren. With cramping cores from laughing and ruffled hair, the friends finally had enough and as they dizzily staggered down the few metallic stairs from the ride, Sheela put an arm around each of her friends’ shoulders, a big grin in her face. “So what next?” With big smiles and sparkling eyes, they started to conquer the night that was only made for them. Between chocolate fruits and pink cotton candy they took every ride that pleased their eyes and after a while Amy sank down on a bench next to a booth, which cold beer and sodas. “Oh my gosh, I guess I am gonna vomit this hotdog…” she groaned and buried her face in her hands. The other two girls slumped down next to her, stretching their legs. “Who needs a break?” Tanja asked carefully, while she didn’t feel very good herself. Within a second, Amy and Lisa raised their hands. So they rested. Tanja spent the time with watching the other people passing them by, all those happy and dreamy faces… couples walking hand in hand, families with their children. And all of a sudden a strange melancholy crawled up Tanja’s chest. The light didn’t seem carefree anymore, but more like the spotlights of a huge stage, that performed life at its bright side, with all the smiles and laughter and perfect people. Nevertheless, every theater came to an end and when the curtain dropped, the other side of life was revealed. The dark side… But Tanja didn’t want to think about this now. She needed to be careful, she knew that. Otherwise, she ran the risk of sinking down into the black hole again. “I need a beer”, she said dryly without turning her head. For a second it was silent. “I need two”, Lisa added. Amy sighed. “One day you two will drive me crazy!” Another second passed. Then they totally cracked up, and it took a while before they got themselves moving and now, with plastic cups of beer, walked on. The evening progressed and with time the exhaustion and tiredness drove the girls slowly to the end of it. Satisfied and languid they walked, more or less straight, to the exit, but then something else caught Tanja’s attention and she stopped. She pointed at a trailer that stood slightly offside. “I want to go to that diviner”, she said, and her friends turned around. Lisa sighed deep and Amy rolled her eyes. “Oh c’mon Tanja! That is just crap!” Lisa threw in annoyed. Amy added: “Yeah. And I’m tired. I know you are crazy about all that mystic and esoteric stuff and I don’t mind that, but could you please postpone your space travel to another day?” Tanja put on her puppy look. “Oh please! I really want to do that.” No answer. “Please, please, please!” She pulled a pout. “Please?” Amy was the first to give in. “Ugh, okay. But make it short, okay?” Huge grin of Tanja. “Promise!” And immediately she walked over to the trailer. Lisa made an annoyed hand gesture but followed her in the end. A little uneasy Tanja walked up the few stairs to the small door, which held a sign with the caption “knock and wait for answer”. So Tanja knocked clearly, her heart pounding loudly in her chest.
“Come in”, a female voice answered, and the three girls entered. An oriental smell welcomed them, a mix of opium and sandalwood, and Tanja immediately soaked it deep into her lungs. It was like she had entered a dream world, nebulized by incense and dark colors. The walls of the small room were covered in red and black velvet; it didn’t have any chairs, only big pillows on the ground and a small, empty desk. The backside of the trailer was covered behind a fine curtain. Tanja couldn’t spot anybody. “Give me a moment. Please, take a seat”, the female voice spoke from the hidden area. The girls glanced at each other, and Tanja could see that Amy and Lisa already regretted forever given in to her request. But she ignored it and sat down on the soft ground, her friends hesitantly following her example. Another few seconds passed, while Tanja looked around the room and stroke over the silky fabric of the pillows, got soaked in by the atmosphere and she felt how her inside settled down, ready to totally get lost in what was about to come. A woman pulled away the curtain, then sat down on the other side of the empty table, her legs folded. She had long brown curls, dark eyes hidden in a lot of black make-up. Her clothes were wide and expanded by a lot of shining necklaces and bracelets, which tinkled as she sat down. Her eyes came to rest on the girls. “So, why are you here?” she asked, and her voice sounded mysteriously through the trailer. Tanja wasn’t prepared for that question, and it took her a moment to think about it. Lisa and Amy wouldn’t answer anyway. “Well, ehm … “She stuttered, “I think I wanna know about my future”. “You think?” the woman asked without any emotion. “No, I know it” Tanja replied, insecure though. The woman didn’t resolve her eyes from Tanja for a single moment, which irritated her highly. “Nobody can tell you about your future”, she said and made Tanja swallow due the dryness in her mouth. But before she was obliged to answer, the woman already continued. “I can only help you find your way”. Now Tanja smiled ironically, lowered her eyes for a moment and strangely got sad for no real reason at all. “I think I could use some help”, she answered and played with her hands. “I know”. Although the trailer was well heated up, Tanja shivered now. She looked up again, into those brown eyes and due to an unknown reason, she trusted this woman. “Give me your hand” Tanja did how she was told, and another shiver ran down her spine as their hands met. With slow and careful touches, the woman stroke over her hand, followed the lines and depths. Without saying a word she took her time and after a while she just covered Tanja’s hand with both of hers. She could feel her warmth and when she looked up in the woman’s eyes, she saw true compassion and caring. “You went through a lot” she started and it got Tanja close to tears. “Yeah…” “You have loyal friends”, for the first time she took a real look at Lisa and Amy, who silently sat behind Tanja. She smiled. “Oh, yes, I have”. Another break followed, and Tanja really had to pull herself together. How could this woman make her break like this, induce all those flashbacks and memories? And then this simple fortune-teller said something which deeply frightened her. “You have to let go of your past. Your parents won’t come back to you. They won’t care about you if you get bad again. You need to get through this on your own.” How could she know? How could she know?!? Tanja gasped for air, close to freak out, but the woman still held her hand gently and at that moment, it was alright. “You don’t have to figure everything out right now. Just breathe.” Tanja nodded, unable to hold the tears back any longer. Silently, they flew down her face. “It’s alright, Tanja”. How did she know her name? But then she didn’t care anymore, and deep sobs shook her body. She felt Amy’s hand rubbing her back slowly, and Lisa took her free hand. The woman pulled out some napkins from behind the curtain and put them on the desk. Somehow they didn’t belong at this place at all, but well….
“Do you wanna talk about it?” For a moment, Tanja hesitated. She hadn’t talked about all this for a long time now. Even Lisa and Tanja only knew fragments. Could she just pour out her heart to a woman whose name she didn’t even know? She looked up in her eyes. Yes she could. And so she started talking. Spilled out all the dark and hurting thoughts she had locked up in her heart for so long. Those thoughts, which haunted her at night and filled her up with a deep craving sadness that she was trying to hide every day. Tanja didn’t even remember what exactly she said, but it felt good. After a while she was just laying on her back, between those velvety pillows, breathing in the smell of opium and sandalwood and staring at the black ceiling. The woman still held her hand and her friend were holding her close. Even it hurt inside, it was alright, somehow. Just for a second, a tiny fragile moment, it was alright. Tanja didn’t remember how she got home in the end. But when she woke up the next morning, she felt strangely relieved, not good, but okay. There were those words, stuck in her head. “… just breathe”, words from a woman whose name she never found out.

Omega Depression || Alpha!Kiribaku x Omega!fem!reader
Hi! Can I request an alpha!Kiribaku x omega!fem!reader where she is strong on the outside, but sensitive on the inside. Then, some asshole alpha comes and insults her saying that she isn't worthy of having alphas and other super mean stuff that makes her go to omega depression. After that, she confines and isolates herself in her room, not allowing her alphas to enter. Days pass, she misses school for like a week, and her alphas are tired of waiting, so they bust the door and find their omega deep in omega depression and starving herself, and they're super worried and try to help her get out of it, cause she could die if not. The rest can be little angst with a fluffy happy ending!
Yo I live for alpha kiribaku, not gonna lie
Warnings: angst, mental health stuff, depression, eating disorder/starvation stuff, abo
Requests are open!
You were always happy with your alphas. Bakugou and Kirishima were the loves of your life, you were sure of it. The three of you got along well, and there was nothing you enjoyed more than spending time with your boys. You kept up with them easily, never having trouble when it came to handling Katsuki’s temper or Eijiro’s enthusiasm. They loved protecting you, too, not that you ever really seemed to need it; you were tough as nails, as far as everyone was concerned.
You weren’t, though, not really.
“What a useless little omega.”
The words kept repeating in your head, over and over.
“Two alphas? Yeah, right. You don’t even deserve one, not with an uppity attitude like that.”
They kept echoing, no matter what you tried to do.
“What a stupid bitch. They should just leave your sorry ass. You aren’t worthy of anyone, much less alphas.”
You curled in on yourself. You felt sick to your stomach. How could someone say that about you? How could a shitty alpha go and ruin your mood, and your day, by saying something so awful?
“I am worthy!” You had argued. “And we’re happy together, so just fuck off.”
“Oh yeah? Then why haven’t they claimed you yet?” His lips had pulled over his teeth in a sick grin. “You know they’re just biding their time, waiting for something better to come along. You’re nothing to them.”
The little spat had been earlier that morning. It was rare that you ever went out alone; usually Eijirou or Katsuki or both of them were stuck to you like glue, but this had been one of those instances when you had absolutely insisted you would be fine. After all, you were just running a couple errands. You weren’t even going very far from campus. What’s the worst that could possibly happen?
Well...this, apparently.
You had rejected the advances of an alpha who had been eyeing you for quite some time. He was annoying and his scent always made you recoil, but you would never, not in a million years, have thought that he could hurt you so deeply.
Why were his words even bothering you so much? You knew your boys liked you. They made sure to constantly cover you in their scents, they happily gave up their shirts for you to tuck into your little bed nest, they held your hands and gave you sweet little kisses...
And yet, he was right. They hadn’t claimed you yet. There were no big bite marks on your neck to show the world that you were taken. Why hadn’t it happened yet? You always thought that maybe they were just nervous, and they wanted to wait for the right time. Maybe they wanted to wait until school was over and they were better established as heroes.
Or maybe they were just playing with you, maybe you were nothing more than their favorite toy for the time being. What if they got tired of you? What if they really were planning on kicking you to the curb? Without a bond mark, nobody would even blink if they cast you aside. It would just be a normal break up, nothing for anybody else to even care about or get involved in.
But your heart was already aching at the thought of it.
You huddled up in your nest, ugly sobs wracking your body as you clutched one of Katsuki’s hoodies to your chest. An undershirt of Eijirou’s was nearby, a few plushies that they had given you tucked in amongst the blankets and pillows. The scents of burnt sugar and cinnamon wafted around you, and as comforting as they usually were, they weren’t helping you now. Nothing was.
You heard your phone vibrate, but you didn’t reach for it. You didn’t care. You were too wrapped up in your own thoughts, absolutely trapped in your head now. You were plagued by those same words as they kept repeating, telling you over and over that you were worthless, useless, nothing.
When you finally managed to glance at your phone, you had missed texts from both your alphas. You replied to them with a couple of half hearted “yeah, I’m fine” -s, then finally slithered out of bed to make sure your door was locked. You didn’t want to face them when they came to bother you.
If they came.
You spent the entire day like that. When you were out of tears to cry, you just grew numb. It was the worst you had ever felt, and while some part of you knew, deep down, that you needed your alphas to come help you, you couldn’t stand the idea of them seeing you like this. How had you managed to grow so afraid? You usually told them everything, but now...now you abhorred the thought.
“Oi!” Katsuki’s rough voice came from the other side of your door, his scent wafting in. “Open up!”
You didn’t answer, curling in on yourself even further instead.
“Omega!” he called angrily. “Stop ignoring me, dammit!”
“Go away!” you managed to squeeze out, your voice sounding weak and strangled.
He was silent for a moment, his scent changing. It grew more burnt-smelling as his anger mounted, and as it reached your nose, you felt panic and annoyance spiking in your chest.
“Omega,” he growled, voice low. You heard the doorknob jiggling as he tried to get in, but you had locked the deadbolt, and unless he unleashed his quirk right there in the dorms, there was no way he was entering your room.
“I said go away!” you yelled.
On the other side of the door, Katsuki was fuming. The beginning sparks of little explosions were popping around his hands, and if Eijirou wasn’t there to hold his arms down at his sides, there was a good chance he would have done some real damage to the hallway.
“Katsuki, c’mon.” the larger alpha said. “Let’s just leave her alone for a little.”
“Something’s wrong,” Katsuki pulled back as his partner started trying to drag him away. “She stinks.”
“Yeah, she definitely doesn’t smell happy,” Kirishima paused, frowning. “But...we need to give her the space, if she wants it.”
“Fuck that,” his partner spat.
“Katsuki....” Eijirou sighed.
Bakugou’s nostrils flared angrily for a moment, red eyes wild as Kirishima grabbed his arm once again. Someone was trying to drag him away from his omega, from his perfect little mate, and if it had been anyone other than Eijirou, he would have done far worse than simply dig his heels into the floor and growl in protest. Kirishima was right, though; if their omega wanted alone time, they couldn’t just barge in without permission. As much as it hurt both boys, as desperate as they were to get to you and make you feel better, they weren’t total animals. They respected you, and prided themselves on being two big, capable alphas who listened to their omega.
They returned to their own rooms, expecting to at least hear from you within an hour or two.
Hours turned to days.
You texted them a few times, listless, half-assed messages that did little to reassure them. You would send a pathetic I’m fine or a It’s okay here and there, only after they had both blown your phone up for a few hours. It was the only reason they hadn’t tried to tear your door off its hinges; they knew you were alive, at least. But by the third day, Katsuki was beside himself, and even Eijirou was getting upset enough to consider using his quirk to get to you.
You wished that he would. You didn’t want to face them, but at the same time, the fact that they weren’t tearing the building apart to reach you was making you even sadder. Your sad scent was starting to leech out into the rest of the dorms, and by the end of the fifth day, nobody could stop your alphas.
“Oy!” Bakugou snarled, his fist thudding against your door. “Open up, omega!”
You didn’t answer, too weak and listless to bother.
“Babe?” Kirishima asked, his voice strained with the effort of not yelling in panic.
“We know you’re in there,” Katsuki growled. “Quit avoiding us!”
Still, you didn’t answer.
Then, you could hear some shuffling, and the door was being torn off its hinges by Kirishima. Bakugou stormed in as soon as the path was clear, his red eyes blazing with anger, his hands balled into fists.
“You’d better show your face right fuckin’ now, or I swear I—“
He fell silent at the sight of you. His eyes widened, his nostrils flaring. Your scent was so strong and so incredibly miserable that a wave of nausea passed through him. He hadn’t expected that it would be so pungent in your room, and as he covered his mouth and nose with his hand, he rushed towards you.
“Baby,” he cooed, vaguely aware of Kirishima behind him, “what the fuck is going on?”
You tried to bury yourself in your nest, trying to burrow away from the world, but a big hand caught you around the middle and pulled you back out. Eijirou manhandled you easily, his eyes wide with concern as he sat on the floor and placed you in his lap.
“You haven’t been eating,” he observed, looking at your tired eyes. “Or sleeping.”
Katsuki was beside himself with worry. He was immediately sitting in front of his boyfriend, caging you in between them as he began looking you over. “What the hell is goin’ on?”
You didn’t want to tell them. Your throat was sore from crying, and you felt stupid for being so upset. So, you did the only logical thing you could think of and buried your face in Kirishima’s broad chest, clinging to his shirt weakly.
“Omega, please,” the big redhead pleaded, leaning his head down to scent you. “Tell us.”
You shook your head.
“We know Somethin’ is wrong, so spit it out!” Katsuki barked.
His voice was harsh, but you felt a warm, gentle hand on your back that could only be his. The familiar touch made you sigh, and after a shuddery breath, the dam finally broke.
“Th-there was an alpha,” you whimpered, voice muffled by Kirishima.
“What the fuck did they do?” Katsuki growled, his voice deep and savage. It sent a chill down your spine and you whined, clinging to Eijirou for dear life.
“Cut it out,” Kirishima snapped, snorting at his boyfriend angrily. “You’re making it worse.”
“I just wanna know what happened!” He grumbled, his hand pressing into your back.
You hiccuped as a little sob wracked your body. “A-an alpha I rejected, h-he told me…he told me that I wasn’t good enough for you.”
The low rumble in Kirishima’s chest was like nothing you had ever felt before. It was threatening and powerful, putting Bakugou’s growl a moment ago to shame. His arms tightened around you, the scent gland on his neck slipping over your hair as he tried to cover up your unhappy omega stink.
“I’m gonna fucking kill him.” Kirishima snarled, uncharacteristically angry.
“Hey.” Bakugou slipped a hand around your waist, prying you away from the other alpha slightly. “Look at me.”
You faced him with teary eyes, and when you tried to shy away, he took your chin in his fingers.
“We fuckin’ love you. Okay? I don’t say it much. Maybe I should say it more. But it’s true, ‘n no stupid, two-bit, shitty-ass alpha knows anything about the three of us.”
He leaned forward, pushing you back up against Kirishima with his head resting on your shoulder. You finally sighed, surrounded by the scents of your alphas, allowing yourself to relax as the dam broke and your crying started all over again. This time, though, it was freeing, and as your alphas rocked back and forth with you, you felt the dread and the anxiety slowly leaving your stomach.
“Better?” Eijirou asked after a while.
“A little.” you said, voice muffled by his tear-stained shirt.
“Good.” Katsuki said gruffly, pulling you up to stand. “Let’s go get some food in you. Point that shitbag out if you see him...I wanna have a few words.”

BABY MAMA
A/N: woke up and just knew i needed to write about dad Harry, bc lets be honest, he is my fav. this fic is perfectly fine as a oneshot, but if you'd like, it could be a sequel to Grammy Winner Husband and Baby Grammy, i wrote things to line up with them!
PAIRING: Husband!Harry / Dad!Harry x Reader
WORD COUNT: 2k
masterlist
Tumblr media
The arena is blowing up, the fans are screaming from the top of their lungs and Harry is putting out a show just as good as the previous ones have been. He is blowing the stage up, singing, dancing, joking around with the fans, enjoying this time he gets to spend with the people who got him to this point in his life. He’ll never be not grateful for what he has, what he is experiencing, no matter how hard this life can get sometimes.
“Dallas, how are you feeling tonight?” he asks in the mic as he walks back to his water bottle to have a few sips. The crowd erupts, the screams almost burst his eardrums, but he just chuckles, easing his thirst with some water before he returns to the microphone stand.
“Are you enjoying yourself?” he teasingly asks, though the reaction is the same. Insane screaming. “Alright, let’s move this show on before you get bored,” he chuckles playfully, the band starts playing the next song and he is back at what he does the best. Performing.
Though not far from the arena, there’s someone who thinks there’s something he is even better at than performing. That person is you, and you’re one hundred percent sure Harry is best at being a father to your five months old son.
Owning the stage, putting out the utter best he can, Harry’s thoughts still wander away from the show he is supposed to be focusing on. He can’t help it, his instincts are just completely drawn to his baby in the hotel suit, dying to know how he is doing. Leaving for the show late afternoon was harder than usually, because baby Theo was having a fever and coughing quite badly. His heart was breaking that he couldn’t help his son, didn’t even know what could be done for such a tiny baby.
“Love, he’ll be alright, okay? The doctor is on the way, it’s gonna be fine,” you told him gently as he was cradling Theo to his naked chest, always so eager to be skin-to-skin with him. Harry kissed his soft little curls on top of his head before nodding, though you knew it was eating him away.
“Call me or Jeff if something happens, okay?” he told you, handing Theo over to you, who was finally asleep after fussing for hours.
“I will,” you nodded, but he cupped your face to make you look at him.
“Y/N, I mean it. I’ll come off the stage if—“
“You won’t come off the stage, Theo is gonna be fine, he just probably got a cold from the aircon at the greenroom in Denver. He’ll be here when you get back, okay?”
He knew this tone, this was your momma bear voice and he would never argue with you when you used it, so he just nodded, kissed you and then Theo’s chubby cheek before heading out.
Now as he is nearing the end of the show he can’t help but think about finally being back at the hotel with his wife and baby, though he won’t let it be seen how eager he is to get off the stage.
The last song passes, the whole arena blows up from the energy and he is throwing kisses everywhere as he heads off the stage, down the aisle that leads him backstage. As he puts on his mask he turns around one last time, throwing some more kisses around to his beloved fans before disappearing behind the curtains.
“Did she call?” he instantly asks Jeff instantly, who hands him his phone over, a text from you already waiting for him.
Doc just left, everything is fine, left some meds for bub. Love you Xx
Even though this is what you told him before too, he feels relieved that the doctor confirmed it, but he still can’t wait to see the two of you.
“Alright, get the car ready, I’m leaving in ten,” he tells Jeff.
“Got it,” he nods, not even daring to argue with him. He knows better than to stand between Harry and his baby.
His legs bounce nervously on his way back to the hotel and he jumps out of the car as if it was on fire, running inside in a rush. He swipes the keycard through the reader on the door and opens it quietly, scanning over the place for you and Theo and there you are, sitting in one of the armchairs with his sleeping son in your arms, your hand gently tapping on his bum. You must have just finished feeding him, because a rag is still thrown over your shoulder and your shirt is all wrinkled around your chest. Theo loves playing with the fabric while you breastfeeding him and Harry loves watching his tiny fingers grab onto it and massaging it aimlessly.
“Hey,” he breathes out, quietly pushing the door closed behind him before he walks over, kneeling in front of you. He kisses Theo’s forehead first, before pressing his lips to yours too. “How is bub feeling?”
“He is doing good. The doc gave him some meds for the fever and we have a syrup for the coughing. He said he’ll be fine in a few days,” you softly explain to him, nodding towards everything the doctor left you on the coffee table.
Harry grabs the bottles, inspecting them as if he knows anything about medicine and you can’t help but smile as he furrows his eyebrows, reading the packaging.
“Want to put him to bed?” you ask him, his head snapping up right away.
“Of course,” he nods eagerly. You both stand up and he carefully takes the little boy from your arms without waking him up. “Hey bubs, I missed you,” he coos at Theo and as you watch him sway with the sleeping baby, your heart could easily burst from just the sight of them.
You didn’t know what life would be like as a family of three. After Harry posted a picture of you with his Grammy award and your belly ready to pop, the whole world went crazy over the fact that Harry Styles is going to be a dad. Despite the buzz, you managed to stay hidden for the rest of your pregnancy and just three weeks after that post, Theodore Styles decided to come to the world. Harry cancelled everything for the first two months, it was just the three of you, showering in the joys of parenthood. You had all the ups and downs, but you wouldn’t have had it any other way.
Then tour got rescheduled and Harry was hesitant whether it was a good idea to go on the road with a five months old.
“Sarah and Mitch are coming too, she gave birth a week after me,” you reasoned when Harry was about to cancel the whole tour. It took you some time to convince him that it’s gonna be fine, though you knew he would be extra cautious with Theo.
Now as you see him gently sway his way to the bassinet next to your bed, knowing that he just performed to thousands of people and now he is here with you and your son, you wouldn’t change it to some peace at home. Besides, you’re convinced tour is gonna do good for Theo, make him get used to people around him, not just the two of you or the grandparents and aunts. During the first night in Vegas, he barely spent an hour in your arms, everyone wanted a piece of him and you gladly let them befriend him, especially because he loves meeting new people, just like his daddy.
As Harry lays him into the bassinet and stands next to it with a lovesick smile on his face, you sneak behind him, wrapping your arms around his waist. He smells so fresh, he surely had a quick shower before heading back to the hotel, but you’re already planning to seduce him to join you for a quick shower as well. He won’t say no.
“Watched a livestream for a bit, you were so good,” you hum, kissing his right shoulder blade and you don’t miss how he leans back against you. “Loved the shimmery outfit.”
“Yeah?” he chuckles softly. Reaching around, he pulls you forwards so he can wrap you in his arms, kissing your forehead gently. “I missed seeing you dance at the side,” he smirks at you and you don’t miss the reference to the old times.
On his first solo tour, when you weren’t even married yet he often caught you dancing like crazy at the side of the stage, it would always make him laugh mid-song and you loved hearing his giggles through the mic, so you often did it on purpose. A few nights ago in Vegas you did the same, but with Theo in your arms, a massive ear protector on his head so the noise didn’t hurt him. When Harry spotted you, he almost started crying, he mouthed I love youand then carried on with the show.
“I’ll be there soon,” you smile at him, cupping his face in your hands to pull him down for a kiss that’s more than just a peck. “Now, I need help with something,” you mumble against his lips.
“Anything, baby.”
“I need you to help me shower,” you tell him cheekily. He pulls back and stares down at you with a playful grin, his hands already wandering under your shirt.
“Oh, is that so?”
“Yeah, I need someone to wash my back and… maybe somewhere else,” you hum seductively and start pulling him towards the bathroom, peeking at Theo one last time, but he is sleeping so deep, the two of you can have some alone time.
“Alright, I could never deny anything from my favorite milf,” he grins, but you smack his chest with a gasp.
“Harry! I told you not to call me that!” you protest, the two of you walking into the bathroom not to bother the sleeping baby in the room. You start running the water right away so it can be nice and hot for you when you walk in.
“Why? You are a milf,” he smirks, so full of himself, already pulling his shirt over his head.
“Then you’re a dilf, just so you know.”
“Baby, my fans have been calling me that for years, even before Theo,” he chuckles softly.
“You were destined to be a dad,” you giggle, getting rid of your own clothes. “Hey, if Theo feels better tomorrow, we could maybe take a walk in that park we saw on the way here,” you suggest, but when no answer comes, you look at Harry and find him just standing there, fully naked, staring at you grinning widely. “What?” you ask, glancing down at your own naked body. Suddenly, you are way too aware of the weight you haven’t been able to lose after giving birth, the stretch marks on your waist and how you’re not at all freshly shaved. Just as you’d move your hands to cover yourself a bit, Harry grabs your wrists and stops you.
“You are so fucking gorgeous, baby,” he hums, dropping his head until his lips could reach yours.
“Stop being such a flirt,” you giggle, feeling your face heating up.
“It’s the truth! I have the prettiest baby mama and that’s a fact.”
He looks at you with so much love and adoration in those beautiful green eyes, it almost makes you cry, knowing that this man is your husband and you get to spend the rest of your life with him.
Wrapping your arms around his neck you kiss him hard, pulling him into the spacious walk in shower.
“Then come and get your baby mama wet,” you giggle against his lips, making him laugh with the ambiguous request as he shuts the glass door behind him, his lips hungrily kissing wherever he can reach and you’re pretty sure the hot water is not the only thing that’s steaming up the glass.

Stood Up - Bakugo - WC 3,502
Stood Up - Kirishima - WC 3,612
Stood Up - Kaminari - WC 2,461

Denki Kaminari's annual Halloween bash was in full swing by the time Hanta had arrived. He'd come straight from patrol, wrapping himself up in his own tape making a half assed mummy costume for himself. Not like anyone would notice with the flashing colored lights, loud music, and abundance of liquor.
However, Hanta didn't even make it up to the double glass front doors of Denki's home. Not before doing a double take at the very familiar pirate that ran by him.
"Y/N?" You stopped allowing him the chance to catch up to you, "Holy shit, it is you, when the hell did you get back?"
Three years you'd been gone, working in America. Time differences and busy schedules made it so the two of you barely kept in touch. It was a shame, Hanta thought, considering how close the two of you used to be.
"I- uh- just a few weeks now. I heard you were helping out with the disaster relief after that storm."
It had to be his eyes playing tricks on him, the funny colors of the dancing lights were what made your cheeks look wet, right? Those couldn't have been tears.
"I was, yeah, but I got back yesterday. I didn't know-"
"Get the hell outta here!" His head snapped back towards the front of the house, just in time to see Eijiro, dressed in an impressive werewolf costume, literally throw someone out of the party. The guy drunkenly stumbled off, Eijiro walking over towards where Hanta was standing with you. "Y/N, you good?"
You nodded while Hanta tried to piece together what'd happened. "Sorry, it took me a second to find the bastard. Do ya wanna come back in? I'll make sure he leaves."
"No, Eijiro, thanks though. I'm just gonna head home."
The wolfman frowned but understood. "We'll have a smaller party for ya! Just the gang as a welcome home! You know Denki will look for any excuse to throw a party." He turned his gaze on Hanta. "A mummy, really?"
"You've been a damn werewolf for the last two years! You don't get to give me crap."
Eijiro poked the fuzzy pointed red ears carefully set into his spiky hair. "Mina and I worked real hard on this costume... seemed like a waste to only wear it once."
"We both know you haven't just worn those once, big man."
That got a chuckle out of you while all Eijiro could do was shrug and try to hide a shit-eating grin.
He asked you again if you'd like to stay and once more you said you were going to just head home. It was when you specifically said you were going to be walking home that Hanta spoke up offering to drive you back to your home since it was Halloween and people were creeps.
You were a damn pro hero but he still didn't feel right about just letting you walk home alone.
When you agreed he told Eijiro he'd be back soon and walked over with you to his car.
>>><<<
A part of you missed the old station wagon Hanta used to drive, not that this BMW he now drove wasn't absolutely amazing, you just sort of missed the comfort of the old car.
He waited until he'd reached the end of Denki's long, winding driveway to finally speak. "So, you wanna tell me what happened back there, or am I just supposed to pretend like Kiri didn't kick someone out on your behalf?"
"You could probably just ask Kiri and he'd tell you."
"I could, but, I'd like to hear it from you."
You knew you could tell him, there was nothing you couldn't tell Hanta. There was once a time when the man knew every single detail about your life. Sure, time and distance had put a strain on that relationship but you were back now. There was no reason why you couldn't at least start rebuilding what you and Hanta once had.
"Y/N, if you don't wanna say anything-"
"I was just casually seeing this guy. You know me and dating, how we don't always work out." You said abruptly and he quit talking, "And so, we weren't like official but we said we'd go to this party together. Well, I got here and went looking for him and found him making out with one of Hawks' sidekicks. I got a little upset when he noticed me and, well, he just said he found someone better."
Hanta actually stopped the car, pulled off to the side of the road, threw it in park, and looked right at you because he knew what found someone better meant exactly. You'd used those words in high school when that guy from Shiketsu that you'd been seeing got pissed off that you wouldn't put out and ended it with you. You went to his dorm crying because he 'found someone better', is what you told him. It took him a few hours to get the truth out of you.
You'd always been the kind of person to love with your entire heart but sexually, you'd confessed that you felt different from all the other kids your age back then. Not having the same urges and desires that everyone else seemed stricken with.
"Hanta, it's fine, really. Kiri heard the whole thing and, well, you saw what happened."
"Doesn't make it right! So, you went on a couple dates with a guy, that doesn't mean he just gets to expect you to put out for him! Even if you weren't demi, no one gets to just assume they deserve sex."
His lips were pressed in a narrow line, nostrils flared once in annoyance. He was usually so calm and laid back that you thought it rather cute when he got overprotective. "It's alright, Hants, really."
He still gave you a look that said he disagreed but then shook his head, dropping the subject for now at least.
"Still like those late-night drives?"
"I love them."
"Good."
Hanta waited for a car to pass and whipped the car in the other direction.
It wasn't long before he had the windows rolled down, conversations filling in the blanks of lost time, in between belting out choruses of your favorite songs. Minutes slipped by the further he drove, you lost track of both time and kilometers, letting him tell you all about the ridiculous antics the group had been up to.
Eventually, you caught the scent of salty air and even in the dark, you had a pretty good idea where Hanta was going. He followed a winding road, making two left turns and then a right leaving you on a stretch of road that paralleled the ocean.
You let your head fall against the seat, eyes falling shut and inhaling that wonderful smell you missed so much. Hanta had just one hand lazily on the wheel, his elbow resting out the open window, a relaxed smile was illuminated in soft orange lights off his dash.
You let your head roll onto his shoulder, not as easily done without the bench seat in his station wagon but it worked nonetheless. "Thanks."
His free hand came to rest on your knee, "Anytime."
He turned the wheel, pulling over and parking in front of a small beach access that you guys had found at 3 in the morning five years prior. Hanta kicked off his shoes, leaving them in the car to avoid them being sand-filled and you did the same with the knee-high boots purely because you longed to feel the sand between your toes.
The wooden planks were worn, parts buried beneath the sand until eventually, none remained. Breaking waves flooded your ears and you made a run for them! Before you could reach the lapping water though, tape had wound around your middle and yanked you backward.
"Not happening!" Hanta said firmly. "Last time I let you talk me into late-night swimming we didn't have a change of clothes either and we both got so sick! I think I might have actually died without Bakugo's soup!"
You chuckled, remembering being nineteen and curled up with Hanta on the sofa in the living room of the apartment you all shared for nearly a week. The sniffles didn't cease for almost three weeks.
"Okay, okay, no swimming." You flopped back down into the sand, his tape still attached meaning the cellophane hero was pulled down with you. "Tell me about the stars then, Hants. Who's out tonight?"
Astronomy was a hobby of Hanta's you learned about after moving into the dorms your first year. It wasn't uncommon to find him out on the roof most nights, laying on his back and looking up into the clear night sky littered with twinkling stars, usually with a joint pressed between his lips. It became almost a habit for him to grab you on his way up, pulling you along because you were more than happy listening to him tell you about each constellation and the stories behind them.
It was around this time of year, in your final year of high school; somewhere between him recalling the greek mythos of Aries and Sagittarius that you noticed your heart beating a little faster. You realized something had shifted between the two of you, and, holy shit, was this what it felt like to have a crush! When the hell did that happen?
You'd entrusted everything to Hanta back then, and now, laying in the sand shoulder to shoulder while he talked about Draco, that familiar feeling stirred again. You remembered what it was supposed to be like when you weren't forcing it for some random guy. How simple it was supposed to be.
You inclined on an elbow and he stopped mid-sentence. "Eh, everything alright?" You nodded but he looked anything but convinced, mirroring your position and asking you again.
It was easy for you to lean forward, to brush your lips against his for the first time in three years. And, when you pulled away, he looked about as shocked as he had the night you'd done it when you were eighteen.
"You- you still like me?"
When you left for America, you'd both agreed to put a pause on your sort of relationship. Free to date and screw whomever you pleased because three years was a long time and it just seemed like a fair decision to make. The realization that he might now have someone else special in his life dawned on you...
"Yeah but I totally understand if things are different now and I shoulda asked- oof!"
He kissed you so hard you toppled back into the sand, quick pecks, one right after another, ending them with a long one that nearly left you breathless.
"I didn't know how to bring it up. I didn't want to make you feel awkward about things or make you think I expected something. I thought that maybe since we didn't talk for a while your feelings might have changed."
"I can say with confidence they haven't."
"Thank fuck." He groaned and captured your lips in another searing kiss.
It was easy to lift his shirt off, the shreds of tape that remained were now covered with gritty sand that clung to your fingers as you traced the chest and torso you knew so well. Gliding over defined muscles, lingering on old scars and mapping out new ones he'd collected in your time apart.
His own hands were busy flicking open the brass fastenings of your corset, huffing about it being so much more difficult to get to your chest and something about it being very unfair.
By the time he'd undone the last one, bright headlights shown across the beach. "Shit."
Giggling ensued from the walkway and you both sighed, at least it wasn't the police or a hero patrol. Hanta gathered his shirt and ran back to his car with his hand in yours.
"I thought our days of being caught were over."
"At least it wasn't Mr. Aizawa this time."
A chill ran down your spine remembering the night and the lecture you'd received when your teacher had caught Hanta sneaking out of your room early one morning.
"So, uh, do you still plan on going to Denki's party?" You asked innocently enough but Hanta knew you far too well.
"I think I'm gonna miss it this year." His hand found a home on your upper thigh. "Apparently, you and I have a lot of catching up to do. Lost time to make up for and all that."
"Too bad you don't have that old station wagon anymore. If you did, we wouldn't have to wait to get back."
Dark eyes glanced over at you not so subtly parting your legs.
"I dunno. It's not too often I travel in the backseat of my own car but I've been told it's pretty roomy. Lots of legroom."
Your hand ran over your legs, dipping down to lightly brush your more sensitive parts, thankful you opted for the thin pair of black leggings rather than the dark skinny jeans. Your fingers danced again and this time you let a soft moan pass your lips. "Eyes on the road, Hants."
"That's a little hard to do when I've got you spread out in the passenger's seat." He grabbed your free hand and pressed it against the bulge in his pants. "You've got me distracted, filthy little woman."
You appreciated him testing the waters, a subtle way of checking if you liked those nicknames he used only in private with you, giving you a chance to protest if your likes had changed. They were one's that only felt right coming from him and you were eager to hear more.
Forgoing your own high, you leaned over the center console as best you could, undoing his belt first, followed quickly by his zipper letting his strained cock be free.
His grip tightened on your leg when you kissed the tip of him. "Just like old times, huh?"
A chuckle turned quickly into a moan, taking him in your mouth, pushing yourself further on his cock, fighting your gag reflex to get him down your throat. Hanta reclined his seat further, giving you more room to work with.
Your legs clenched tighter with every groan you pulled from him, wiggling your hips in the seat, letting a hand fall back between your own legs. There was an attempt of a moan around his cock when his fingers coiled in your hair. "Such a good slut. Keep fuckin' goin'." He let you continue at your own speed, needing to focus as best he could on the road rather than what you were doing but, damn, you were making that increasingly difficult.
He wasn't stopping you though. He rarely did. You'd sucked him off on countless drives before and only stopped when- "That's it." He lifted you off him by your hair at the same time he pulled off the road. There was a convenient turn-off, hidden by overgrown brush you noticed before he shut off the headlights.
Hanta took you by the chin, smearing drool. "Backseat, pretty girl." He reached into the glove box and pulled out a foil wrapper, "What do you say we test out that legroom?"
He wait to watch your smile grow wide before crawling into the back because he had to be the first to go if this had any chance of working. Once situated, pants under his thighs, he patted his lap for you to climb over.
You slid easily onto his lap, hands traveling up and over his shoulders, kissing hard while you rocked your hips against impossibly hard length.
There was so much comfort in the familiarity of him. It wasn't awkward to fall back into rhythm with Hanta, to remember that he loved the feeling of your nails dragging down his chest. And he was just as eager to get your shirt off, reach your breasts he'd missed so much, and get his tongue on your nipples.
Your head tipped backward, loving the pace he set, hips bouncing creating the perfect tug on your nipples between his teeth.
"Love, if I promise to buy you a new pair, can I rip these damn leggings? They're just so thin and-"
"Please." Your breathy moan had him smirking and with a single grunt the leggings were ruined, cool air from the vents had only a moment to touch your bare ass before Hanta's hands reclaimed it.
There was no way he hadn't felt your arousal before ripping your clothes off, you soaked through your panties and leggings, you knew that, but that didn't stop him from commenting on how soaked you were now on his fingers. "Want me inside you, whore? I think you do."
You nodded with a whimper and he slipped a finger in. "Hants, noo- I- I want your cock, please."
"You're gonna take my fingers like a good little slut first." You clenched at the words falling from his mouth. "So fuckin' tight you can barely take a finger. How'm I supposed to fit in here if you can even take a single finger? Need you to loosen up, alright." He pushed another finger in, scissoring the two inside you.
"This gonna make you cum? You need this bad, don't you? Tell me. Tell me how bad you need to cum."
"I want it. Please, please, I need it. I'm so close," You babbled and ripped the foil open with his teeth, rolling it with one hand on his cock. In an instant, his fingers had been replaced with this dick. Sticky fingers on your ass helping you ease down on him with a hiss.
"Fuck," Hanta let out a throaty chuckle, "You still fuckin' feel the absolute best." He dropped a kiss between your breasts, letting you adjust to his girth. "Perfect. Good girl. Such a fuckin' good little slut."
He wasn't about to last long. Not once you started bouncing up and down on him, your tits right in front of his face.
"Couldn't even wait for me to get you home, had to fucking tease me in the damn car." He held onto the fat of your ass, pulling you along him and slamming you down hard.
"Kinda pathetic how desperate you are. Fuck. Kinda hot too."
When the top of your head bumped the roof of the car, he scooted lower, trying to give you as much room to ride him however you pleased.
"What do you need? You wanna cum, don't you, pretty girl, what do you need?"
"Faster, faster please."
Hanta shifted even lower, making you grab onto the two headrests while he thrust his hips up into you at a rapid speed. His thumb on your clit was the additional stimulation you needed to fall over the edge. Nails clawing at the black leather as he continued to moan below you now chasing his own release.
You stayed poised above him, using every last bit of strength to stay upright until his mouth was rambling and his cock pulsed inside of you. Fingers bruising your skin before holding your pelvis snuggly against his.
He was bent in a way that looked entirely uncomfortable and yet he still smiled so widely. Reaching up to brush hair out of your eyes, "You okay?"
"Perfects, Hants. A little sore but I'm sure you are too." He moved off his lap, letting him slip out of you with a groan, "Is your neck gonna be okay?"
"I'll be fine. Having you back, love, is more than worth a little bit of a neck cramp."
As he tied a knot in the condom, depositing it into a plastic bag he had tucked away under his seat, Hanta raised a brow, "Love, really, are you alright? Please, tell me if I hurt you at all."
"No! I'm good, why?"
"You're sitting silly."
You were sitting a little odd, perched on your knees rather than sitting on your ass because the leather was chilly and you told Hanta as much making him laugh. "Wait, I think I can help." He leaned back to the front of the car, flicking a button making it glow. Once he tucked himself back in his pants he hopped out of the car and you could see him rummaging in his trunk through the rear window.
"I keep forgetting to take this out from our camping trip a couple months ago. Guess it turned out to be a good thing." He laid the blanket down over the passenger's seat, declaring that should help a bit.
You wrapped the now toasty warm blanket around your bottom half while Hanta drove back towards the city, your head on his shoulder, his hand on your thigh.
"So, shopping tomorrow? I believe I owe you a pair of leggings..."
"It's a date."

Fix her - Kaz Brekker
Request: nope Pairing:  kaz brekker x reader Summary:  kaz sent you out to gather information, and you always return on time with the intel he needs. well, maybe not always. Warnings: angst, language, mentions of BLOOD, BRUISES, INJURIES, typical soc stuff, slight six of crows and crooked kingdom spoilers Word count:  2.2K A/N: hello my darlings it is I and I have read almost every book leigh bardugo has written in the past month. I am now hopelessly in love with jesper, kaz and nikolai. I'll be updating my character list soon! I still have a few wips but I don’t have any motivation / inspiration for those. so have my first kaz brekker x reader instead! enjoy reading :)
It was a rather easy job, really. Kaz had received word that the Dime Lions had an important meeting coming up. Because he always wanted to know what exactly was going on in the Barrel and with its gangs, he wanted someone to listen in on said meeting.
Normally, he would send Inej. She was the obvious choice when it came to gathering information. But she was still recovering from a rather nasty cut in her side, and so you had offered to go.
Inej insisted she could go. But all it took was you raising your eyebrows when she moved to sit up, only to wince and flop back down onto the bed. Though he didn’t quite like it, Kaz had assigned you to the job.
No one said it out loud, but everyone knew there was something between you and Kaz. Neither of you had spoken about it. There were just a lot of lingering glances, smiles from you and what you think was almost a smile from Kaz, and you even had stolen his coat once when you had lost your own. He didn’t seem to mind though.
When you had left that evening to listen to the Dime Lions meeting from the shadows, Kaz had sent you a look that you knew all too well. He reserved it only for you. It was him telling you to be safe. You’d respond with a wink that basically meant always am.
The rest of the crows started a card game to pass the time as they waited for you to come back. They didn’t worry, you were always careful and are considered one of the most dangerous criminals in Ketterdam. They knew whatever happened, you could handle yourself.
But after Jesper had lost four rounds of card games, the tension began to rise between them. Most meetings typically didn’t last this long. Still, no one said anything as they started their fifth game. You would show up eventually, probably bringing valuable insight with you.
After two more games, there was still no sign of you. Nina was the first one to speak up.
‘She should have been back by now.’ she says, absently looking out the window into the dark street.
‘Have a little faith, Zenik.’ says Kaz, though on the inside he was filled with worry. He shook it off and focused on the game again.
More than once he’d scolded himself for allowing you to get this close to him. For putting so much trust in you, especially after what happened the last time he’d really trusted someone. But he couldn’t help it. It was like he was drawn to you like Jespers trigger finger was to his revolvers. He couldn’t help it.
Still, he knew your skills. He knew you were smart, and a fighter. Whatever was going on with you out there, he had no doubt you’d show up at the door in a few moments, cheerfully announcing what good intel you’d gathered and wondering how many card games you’d missed.
But you still didn’t show. And one by one, they all lost their interest in the card game. They fell silent and looked out the window or fiddled with their empty glasses. The tension in the room grew. Until Kaz suddenly stood.
‘Finish the game.’ he says. ‘I’ll go and look for her.’
‘I’ll come with you.’ says Jesper, getting up as well.
‘No.’ says Kaz, earning a frown from Jesper. ‘Just me.’ he says. And with that, he pulled on his coat, grabbed his cane and was out the door.
‘Right.’ says Jesper, sitting back down. ‘Anyone fancy another game? I have a feeling I’m gonna win this one.’
They played three more games. They were tired, and it was well past midnight. Still, none of them went upstairs to their rooms. Too anxious to play any more cards or to even have a normal conversation, they settled for silence and more drinks.
Jesper was fiddling with his rings and bouncing his leg. Nina had her elbows on the table and her chin in her hands. Matthias was trying to not look at Nina. And Wylan was attempting to build a house out of the cards.
Finally, they heard the sound of the door opening. All of their heads shot up and turned to look who it was.
Kaz stumbles awkwardly through the door, carrying you in his arms. Nina gasps softly and Jesper murmurs ‘Saints’ as their eyes land on your body.
It’s bruised and bloody, and your eyes are shut. Was Kaz too late?
‘Clear the table!’ says Kaz loudly, limping toward it with you in his arms.
Instantly, Matthias and Jesper seize the glasses and cards off the table as Wylan pulls some of the chairs back to make room. Kaz lays your beaten up body on the table and turns to Nina.
‘Help her.’ says Kaz.
But Nina is looking at you body, bruised and bloodied, nothing like the cheerful girl that buys her waffles and laughs as she teases Matthias. It’s almost impossible to find a spot on your body that doesn’t have a wound on it. There’s slashes from knives everywhere, bruising around your neck and the side of your face, and to top it off, blood is slowly leaking out of a bullet wound in your leg.
An expression of horror is written across Nina’s face, her hands pressed against her mouth.
‘Nina.’ Kaz presses on. ‘I said help her.’
‘Kaz, I don’t think-’ stammers Nina. ‘Come on, fix her!’ says Kaz loudly, surprised of how much anxiety can be heard in his voice. Fix her, he thinks, because I need her to fix me.
‘I can try but-’ ‘Do it.’ says Kaz and then he turns away, he can’t bear to look at you any longer. Memories of Jordie flood over him, mingled with memories of you. Your laugh, how he fights his own smile every time you wink at him or send a flirty comment his way, the way you smell. How you look at him when he catches your eyes.
Kaz shuts his eyes, attempting to drown the memories out. Taking deep breaths, he tries to focus on the voices behind him.
‘Jesper get the bullet out of her leg.’ says Nina.
‘Just pull it out?’ questions Jesper.
‘Saints, you’re Grisha, Jesper, pull the fucking bullet out!’ says Nina in a loud voice laced with fear.
After a while of listening to Nina’s murmuring and instructions to others, Kaz finally turns back around to look at you. A wave of nausea hits him unexpectedly and he swallows hard.
Nina had treated most of the wounds, with Jesper’s help. But your entire body is still covered in bruises, and now bandages as well. Nina’s cleaned the dried blood off of your face, but your arms and legs are still covered with it.
They’re all nervously looking at Kaz.
‘I don’t know if she’s going to-’
‘Don’t.’ says Kaz, interrupting her. He needed to think straight. He needed someone to help him focus. Normally, you’d be the one to do so. But you’re in no condition to softly talk to him to reassure him everything is going to be alright. He needed to be his own soothing voice tonight.
‘Matthias.’ he says. ‘Bring her up to my room. Nina, go with him, see if there’s anything else you can do for her. Jesper, get Inej up to speed. Wylan, clean this mess up before someone notices.’
Without waiting for their reactions, Kaz walks up the stairs to his floor. Several moments later, followed by Matthias, who is carrying you, and Nina and Jesper. Jesper disappears into Inej’ room, while Matthias and Nina continue to walk the stairs to get to Kaz’ floor.
When they arrive, Matthias carefully places you on Kaz’ bed as he was instructed. For a while, the three of them look at you. Until Matthias and Nina go to their rooms as well, leaving Kaz alone with you.
None of them had questioned why he insisted Matthias brought you to his room and not your own. Of course, they were dying to find out exactly what was going on between you and Kaz, but they all knew tonight was not the night to push him.
As he looks at you, Kaz feels the strong urge to touch you. Lay his hand on your cheek, to see if it’s still warm. But he can’t. Instead, he merely pulls out a chair and sits down next to the bed. He lets his eyes travel over your body, wondering how much pain you’re in, and who the hell was responsible for it.
He needed you to wake up. He needed you to tell him who did this so he could send his biggest most muscular members of the Dregs to them. Kaz wanted them to hurt the way they had hurt you.
His mind is running at an alarming speed. But eventually, even Kaz can’t fight his tired body anymore, and he falls asleep in an uncomfortable position in his chair.
From that night on, he instructed that you shouldn’t be left alone. He doesn’t want you to wake up and realise you’re on your own. The next day, it’s business as usual. The members of the Dregs are coming and going like they always do. The familiar flow of people helps to take everyone’s mind off things, but as soon as they’re by your side, they remember.
Nina had tried her best to heal you, but it still took you almost a week to wake up.
When you wake up, your first thought is that your entire body feels way heavier than it’s supposed to. You try to open your eyes but it’s like your eyelids are made of lead. After a couple more tries, you finally open them.
You take in the room, and realise it’s not your own. Kaz.
Why would you be in Kaz’ room? Why aren’t you in your own room? And why does your body feel so damn heavy?
And then all of the memories flood back. Like a tsunami, they catch your breath in your throat, making it hard to breathe. You try to inhale deeply, but it’s like your throat is sealed shut. You start to panic when you notice you can’t breathe.
Then a pair of hands land on your shoulders and gently push you back onto the bed. Whoever it is, is talking softly to you. You close your eyes and try to steady your breathing.
Then the voice yells out, but from much farther away, like they’re standing in the doorway, and not next to the bed.
‘Kaz! Nina! Get up here!’
It’s Jesper.
You try to ask him what’s going on, but it’s still hard to breath normally. You try to focus on something else. Jesper’s voice trying to calm you down, his eyes looking into yours, but nothing’s helping.
Then you hear a sound you know all too well. A familiar stumbling, of someone walking up the stairs with a cane.
Seconds later, Kaz rushes into the room and roughly shoves Jesper away, taking his place next to the bed.
‘Who did this to you?’ he says.
His voice is that familiar rasp, and normally you love it. But now it just makes your head hurt. You shut your eyes and softly shake your head, trying to drown the sound out.
‘Y/N, who did this to you?’ says Kaz, more firmly this time.
‘Kaz.’ says Nina’s voice. ‘Let her rest. You can talk later.’ Nina’s voice is softer, more gentle than Kaz’. You try to focus on it as you open your eyes again.
Kaz is close. He looks down at you and you’re surprised by the look in his eyes. Was that a hint of worry you detected? You open your mouth to say something, but Kaz is faster.
‘Y/N, tell me who did this to you.’ says Kaz.
‘Couldn’t see their faces.’ you manage to say in a hoarse voice. Your throat feels dry and you start to cough. Immediately, Nina moves to get you a glass of water and helps you to drink it.
‘Did you notice the way they moved? How they walked? Were they Dime Lions? Could you see any tattoos? What about scars? Clothing? Voices?’
Kaz keeps on firing questions at you, but you can’t focus on his words. Your head feels heavy and you feel your eyelids slowly closing again.
‘Kaz.’ you say softly. ‘Tomorrow.’
You expect him to press on, to find out who did this to you. But instead, he looks at you and holds your gaze. He doesn’t say anything, he merely nods at you. You know what it means. Despite his harsh voice and the million questions, he’s glad you’re safe. And the ones who did this to you will pay for it. He’ll make sure of it.
You offer a weak smile before closing your eyes, already drifting off. You hear two pairs of footsteps leave the room, and assume Nina stayed behind to check on you.
The chair next to you gets moved back and you hear how someone sits down in it. When you feel something brush against your fingers, you assume it’s Nina checking your pulse.
But then you feel a gloved thumb on the back of your hand. It slowly rubs over your skin. To most people it wouldn’t mean anything. But to you, it meant the world. A tiny smile reaches the corners of your mouth, as you fall asleep.
