What do you think about the possibility of Min possibly playing a role in the story beyond her being Xander's killer? Sometimes I have been feeling lately that there are certain things surrounding her character that are a bit suspicious you could say, the fact her secret in full detail isn't brought up in her bonus episode (for the most part), XF-Ture Tech being shady in general and her "potential" involvement with it could be a little beyond her getting sponsored, maybe some type of hidden motive since it's highly likely her reaction to being the blackened is genuine, but I have also seen it brought up a couple times how her plan was feels too elaborate to be something to be done "on the fly."
If I try to be as objective as possible, I imagine XF-Ture Tech is likely going to be important either to DRDT itself or at least DRDTAlt (are we still calling it that I haven't been keeping up-), and given how we learnt about it from Min, I want to say we'll at least hear about her again. Especially if her least favorite colors (pink and white together I believe) being XF guy from DRDTAlt's colors is more than a coincidence, and they actually know each other.
On a more conspiratorial note:
CW: Descriptions of Min's execution (blood, dismemberment), animal death
I think Min is the most likely to be the mastermind from the people who are dead, including Mai. It basically comes down to one of the golden rules of fiction: don't assume death unless you see a corpse.
If you go back and watch Min's execution (horrible thing for me to ask, I know), the camera actually pans out before we can see her corpse. The last thing we see is a blood splatter, but the blood could belong to the wolves attacking her. If they were killed before they mauled her, she could have been taken somewhere else to heal her. Yes, it's weird for the mastermind to dismember themselves, though it's not impossible, especially if she's being forced into the role instead of doing it for her own reasons (so XF-Ture Tech would be the real mms).
There's a few things that could point to it if you really wanna go crazy. The text in the about page source code (I talked about it here) mentions a "Teacher", and while I believe it's meant to be a quote from the fictional book "Forever Dead", the character most directly linked to teachers and schools is, in fact, Min.
Min's quote on the Mai page is "[Mai is] An average girl with nothing special at all about her." This is the only quote on that page which could be theoretically construed to be negative, the others are all either neutral or outright positive. For someone like Mai, who is "someone dearly loved", you gotta admit it's at least a little suspicious to say she's completely average, when it's generally assumed her death is part of the reason the killing game is happening.
As for her plan being too elaborate, I wouldn't say that necessarily. Throwing water she was already carrying on Xander was a reflex, and I can believe she's smart enough to break the light switch to give him a shock in the moment, again with a pen she's always carrying. Once he was down, the rest of the plan isn't too difficult; make sure he's dead, write a note to cover the light switch so no one catches on, and get the hell out of dodge. It was an event partially caused by Teruko's luck, too, so nothing about it is horribly suspicious.
There are details you could call inconsistencies (if Min wanted to save Teruko, why try to win the class trial? I think it makes enough sense without having to resort to mastermind accusations, but 'keep Teruko Tawaki alive at all costs' does actually fit the mm's interests, since Prologue-Guy-who-is-totally-not-Xander said if they couldn't stop the killing game, they would at least have to kill Teruko), but I don't think they're unexplainable. It's been a while since I watched DRDT though, maybe I'm forgetting something important.
Do I actually think Min is the mastermind? No, she's dead. I kinda want it to be true, with how much I love her and want her to be alive, but saying she's likely to be the mastermind is slightly delusional. I think she's a better candidate than even people like Ace or Charles, who are alive but would make no sense as mms, but I certainly don't think she's the most likely by a long shot.
Anyways, thanks for the ask! Now back into the void I go!

#19.3 Unravel
It had been some time since Agni felt this nervous. Not even talking with Jinsung Ha recently had made him feel like this. He fiddled with the mask on his hand as he waited for Grace to come back. He had thought hard on how to deliver the news, but he knew that no matter how he phrased it, Grace would be upset. Velt nuzzled under his palm and Agni gave her a few pats, before deciding that she would be better inside her bowl in his lighthouse, just in case the shinsu acted up around Grace after he received the news.
Grace came back wearing the comfiest shirt and shorts Agni knew Grace liked to wear on lazy days. He joined him on the floor, and they ate dinner together. Agni always finished last, so while waiting for him to finish his meal, Grace told him about his day with Bam. Grace was intrigued by how much his way of thinking had changed, and how glad he was to be able to be by Bam's side when he was having a bad day. It reminded Agni of the hidden floor, when Grace faced his sworn enemy.
They left the used bowls on the coffee table and went to brush their teeth. Afterwards, they turned off the light and went upstairs to sit on their bed. Grace's curious gaze never left him, and Agni curled his feet nervously.
Grace was the one who broke the silence. "So…what is it?"
Agni's breath hitched. This was the part he dreaded most. "I talked with the crocodile earlier. Did you know that he could manipulate stone already?"
"Huh." Grace needed a few seconds to let the information sink in. "Didn't Rak learn it on the Hell train? How does he know it?"
"Turns out our crocodile also traveled back to the past like us. He found the young crocodile and taught him."
"What?!" Grace gasped, wide eyed. "That means our Rak is–!!"
"He's dead." Agni quickly snuffed out that hope. They had been in delusion for long enough; it was time that they faced the bitter truth. "He suffered a fatal injury from the explosion. He couldn't have lasted long without proper help." Agni omitted the actual cause for Rak's death, but still kept his words true. "I'm sorry."
"…Oh." Grace looked lost, just like Agni was. His lips parted a little, but they closed before any sound escaped.
Agni gently squeezed Grace's hand, encouraging and comforting as he let the silence stretch on, giving Grace some time to process the information.
"Agni…" Grace whispered, "do you think Hatz and Isu…?"
Agni bit his lip and avoided his gaze, as the nightmare of that day replayed in his mind. He witnessed Hatz get his arms ripped off when trying to protect him. He could still recall the clang of a sword hitting the floor, and Hatz's suppressed scream that gnawed deep at his guilt. He witnessed Isu get beheaded after being taken hostage, the memory of warm blood painting them both still vivid like it happened yesterday.
Agni refused to acknowledge their possible deaths, because it felt like a nightmare that one day he could hopefully wake up from. He avoided the topic when Grace brought it up, so he wouldn't have to say it aloud and make it real. He had been so hard on himself, because he couldn't get rid of the feeling that he had failed Grace and everyone else involved.
Agni knew this had to change if he wanted to live better, now that they had gotten a second chance. So he swallowed down the lump in his throat that had built up over the years and asked mostly to himself; "What are the odds of their survival?"
"There's always a chance–"
"Grace." Agni looked him straight in the eye. "They were already severely injured before the explosion hit."
Grace fell silent and went still.
Agni felt a pang of guilt upon witnessing Grace's reaction. "Sorry. I didn't mean to snap." Agni fiddled with his hands. He realized that he didn't know how much Grace knew of what happened. "My scar…do you know how I got it?"
"I…was told it was from the family heads' battle." Grace looked thoughtful. Agni knew he was trying to be careful with his words. "A stray attack?"
"It could have been worse." The memory of the scorching heat on his skin felt like it had only happened yesterday. He passed out right when he was about to heal Isu, and only found out later that he also lost sweetfish at that time. The days he spent recovering from the burn, to withstand the excruciating pain every second he was conscious, and finally coming to terms that it'd be a permanent scar, was one of the turning points that had changed him forever. Were Grace not there to care for him, he might have ended up destroying himself even more.
Agni hadn't realized he had his left hand clawing on his cheek until Grace pried his hand off and frowned, "You're doing it again."
"Maybe I should wear the mask…" Agni muttered to himself. After all, Grace gave it to him less so he could hide the scar but more to prevent him from unconsciously hurting himself. The only time he could safely take it off was when Grace was around.
Agni bit his lip nervously when Grace didn't reply. He no longer had the courage to look Grace in the eye that spoke so much concern, so he leaned close and rested his head on Grace's chest. "Rak, Isu, Hatz and Hwaryun were trying to get me out of that damned place. But we were caught while escaping, and…it was a bloodbath. I was…too occupied to react to the incoming heat. Rak shielded us from the explosion. And when I woke up…"
"They weren’t with you," Grace finished it for him after Agni trailed off a moment too long.
Agni nodded dazedly, "I've been telling myself that they're still alive, after a blow that could kill rankers. But…who am I kidding? I was lucky enough to survive with just this little–" Agni vaguely pointed to himself– "inconvenience."
Agni felt a hand gripping his arm, and he pulled away to see Grace looking at him with a pained expression. His eyes were glossy and his lips were pulled into a thin line. Trusting his instinct, Agni reached out to gently trace and cup Grace's cheek with his free hand.
"I'm sorry," Agni muttered. "I'm sorry, for not telling you sooner."
Agni silently witnessed tears that streamed down on his love's face. It was a bitter sight that Agni wished he'd never have to see again, that he had tried to avoid for so long by not telling him. He pulled Grace in and held him close to his chest, as if Agni was trying to gather his own crumbled heart back together.
Tumblr media
Grace mumbled their late best friends' names as he held onto him tighter, shaking from each breath he took between sniffles.
Agni felt his own eyes sting with unshed tears. He remembered the years he spent climbing the tower together with his old team. Despite their banter being his source of headaches, Agni knew he too had come to acknowledge them as his cherished friends. Only when they were gone did Agni realize how much he'd miss having them around. Seeing the younger them didn't exactly close the gaping hole in his heart, but at least the emptiness was more filled.
Agni squeezed Grace tighter. "We have their younger selves with us now. We will protect them better this time."
Grace only nodded and sank further into his embrace. And Agni planted kisses on his hair, relishing the thought that after everything he had gone through, Grace was still a constant in his life. As long as he had him, everything would be okay.
When Grace started shaking again, Agni caressed his hair and hummed a comfort song they had known by heart. Still, it didn't make falling asleep any easier for Agni, especially not after admitting that his nightmare was very much real. However, as he had been through grief…this, too, would pass.

#Whee we get to know some of their past. Specifically their turning point#I hope it flows nicely because i have rewritten this like 3 times now 😭😭😭 dialogues are just not my specialty#like how to make them reveal such information without making them come out of the blue#writing style aside. let's talk about why Agni behaves this way#I will save the details on the what and how for the prologue. but basically Agni had been through hell that he couldn't escape alone#Rak Hatz and Isu saved him (or attempted to). and Agni owed them for saving his life. thus the strong attachment that Khun doesn't have#also let me mention that Agni had trouble differentiating between hallucination and reality after the incident. So he was kind of in denial#maybe Agni had come to a conclusion that they might be dead months after that. but he was too afraid to admit it to Grace#because he thought it was partly his fault for being incompetent. and Grace would hate him for letting their friends die#not wanting to risk being left by Grace. he just put himself (and inevitably Grace too) in the illusion of truth#that there's still a chance their friends are still alive because they have no proof of their deaths#so when Agni was offered to go back to the past. he agreed to it. Already expecting that Rak Hatz Isu aren't the same ones that he looks fo#but it was as good as he could get to redeem himself. Plus they get to meet everyone else who they couldn't save#Anyway. A/N: this is my first fic ever, and I haven’t written a story since I was 13 so please bear with me 💀
I couldn’t really come up with a good plan on how to start this so it’s probably gonna be a little janky at first but I’m mostly just doing this for fun anyway so here goes!
Hope you enjoy!!!
Warnings: Fem!reader, bad grammar, amnesia trope, sloooooow burn
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Garroth x Reader fic
Prologue:
“Try again.”
“Garroth, it’s been ten years and this has only worked once…”
“I’m not giving up.”
“Well I have. It doesn’t matter anymore. I’ve got better things to remember. I’m happy with now, I don’t need those memories back.”
“Do you really mean that, or are you just trying to keep from being a burden?”
“Garroth, I……”
“Just tell me what you remember.”
A huff escapes me, closing my eyes I allow the sound of the waves to ground me, and attempt to think back….back to the woods, back to the woman, the fighting, meeting Zenix, and obviously Garroth… a part of me doesn’t want to know. There’s something big hiding in my mind, I can feel it.. like a serpent waiting to strike. I’m happy, sure there are a few things I’d maybe like to be different but nothing as drastic as I know this would be. Besides, I know who I am now, I don’t want to have to wrestle with who I was.
“The woman. Start with her.”
“Garroth, we’ve been-“
“Just humor me..please”
The huff is definitely more aggressive this time but hearing Garroth chuckle almost made the annoyance worth it. “All I remember is that we were close. She was wise. She basically raised me. She told me I’d make my father proud…and then she was gone.”
“Then what?”
“Then there was fighting, or something..I’m not sure. But probably fighting.” That chuckle again.. “I passed out and then woke up to your stupid helmet staring down at me, and Zenix having a temper tantrum.”
Garroth stays quiet.
“That’s all I remember. No new details this time I promise.”
“….”
“…we were out picking berries. I remember that. But it doesn’t really seem too important” I failed to mention that I remembered the woman’s face, and the people I saw chasing after Zenix. It’s not gonna make a difference.. I think.
This time the huff comes from Garroth. “Do you remember after that?”
A smirk forced its way onto my face and glanced at the sand beneath me. “You turned into a worry wart and insisted of rescuing two strays out of the woods cause you have a hero complex?”
“I do not have a hero complex”
“You’re literally sitting here trying to interrogate my old memories out of me cause you think it’ll help”
He stands up and begins to brush the sand off his cape, still looking down at me. I can feel his annoyed glare despite the helm. “I’m trying to help you. You always seem to forget that when I brought you back you practically begged me to help you remember.”
“Ten years ago.. Garroth, I appreciate everything you’ve done for me but I’m tired” I stand and stare up at him. “If I was going to remember I would have by now. I just wanna focus on living from here on out. Please. I promise I’ve given it a lot of thought and I think this is for the best.”
I can almost see his shoulders sag for a moment. He hates giving up. I hate seeing him think he’s let me down.. I place a hand on his forearm and stare into what I can only assume are his eyes. “It’s not your fault. You’ve done everything you can, but it’s time to move on. It’s not like I’m some lost princess, I don’t need to know where I came from to know who I am. Please.” I gently stick out my pinky.
He remains quiet, save for the gentle creaks of his armor as he wraps his pinky around mine, followed by a mildly offended “I don’t have a hero complex.”
I chuckle and begin to walk back to the guard tower where Dale and Zenix are no doubt NOT waiting for us with too much concern. I’m only a stand in guard, available when someone really needs a day off or something (I enjoy being more crafty and artsy than full fledged guard duty would allow for, but I can wield a sword better than anyone in town, other than Garroth) but since Zenix and I basically decided we were siblings, and there isn’t exactly enough houses for everyone in the village, Garroth approved me to stay in one of the spare guard rooms until they needed it for another guard (they haven’t).
The common area was fairly spacious although the kitchen and armory were included in that space. The unusual serenity of the room is cut short by an all too familiar *hic*. Dale is strewn lazily across the couch. “Theeeerrrrreeee you guy*hic*s are..! I was mvaiting…f*hic*or…yyy…” he’s back out before we can even figure out what he was saying.
We make our way up the stairs and stand comfortably at my door as he gives me the rundown of tomorrow’s schedule. “-and Zenix and I will be investigating the entrance-“
“There’s no walls…everywhere is an entrance”
“Would you just-“ he sighs and even tho his smirk isn’t visible, it’s definitely audible. “We’ve gotten reports of suspicious people wandering around. I’ll be taking Zenix with me to investigate. Could you cover his usual patrol?”
My eyes widen “woah woah woah what?! You didn’t tell me about this. What if I already had plans???”
“Well I didn’t say you HAD to…do you have plans??”
“…no not yet…I was gonna ask Donna if she wanted to have a girls day but that was more of a spontaneous thing..”
“You don’t have to.”
“…fine. But you owe me Ro’M-“
“Yes. Yes I do.”
As if second nature he lifts his helmet just enough to kneel down and kiss my knuckles, a sweet little tradition we’ve developed over our years of friendship.
I enter my room and quietly shut the door behind me. ‘Friendship…’ a beautiful word. Its incredible how someone can be willing to go through so much pain just to ensure they don’t loose it. I take a deep breath in an attempt to slow my heart rate before getting ready for bed. This has become my own personal addition to our little tradition.
A/n: aaaahhhhhh!!! Prologue done!!! Next chapter will be Aphmau’s introduction! We’ll see how that goes lol!! Thank you for reading!!!! Love ya!!! 🫶🫶🫶
Direbeast…Dire Crowley…
My brain cells are trying so hard to piece this mystery together haha 。゚(゚´ω`゚)゚。 BUT! What I have noticed is Grin’s eyes when he’s in “berserk mode.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
His eyes transform into glowing orbs, and the light is still visible even when they’re closed.
Doesn’t it look a little familiar?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As much as I would love to see a handsome Crowley under that mask, I feel for certain that he just has creepy glowing orbs and a shadow over his face haha (he still handsome tho). But it’s interesting how similar these two eyes are.
The Phantoms don’t have eyes at all, and their heads are replaced with a broken jar of ink. It’s what makes Phantom!Grim that we see in the prologue even more unique. Additionally, all of the Overblot students retain their regular facial features, save for the flame over one of their eyes and ink markings on their face
Tumblr media
Book 6 also revealed that Grim is a direbeast fused with another animal, but I think it’s unknown what animal this is. It’s a very interesting detail, and it makes me wonder what the meaning behind it is, and why his mental state is on par with a humans. From what we know about other dire beasts, they’re more akin to wild animals. I still think that Grim was Crowley’s phantom once upon a time, but it’s still kept in the dark.
Tumblr media
It makes me wonder if Crowley is in a similar predicament? I’d like to think that he’s a bird-inspired Fae, with the ability to transform into a crow/raven. Is it the shared animalistic features that make them similar? I still don’t think so, just because Leona is a beastman with none of these weird traits when overblotted.
So in the end, I’m still holding onto the theory that Crowley’s body is in a state of blot-limbo, just like Grim was. Although Grim was a lot more wild and ferocious, he still wasn’t quite a Phantom or full-blown Overblot monster. I think Crowley is incredibly unstable and teetering over this delicate edge of blot in body, and while he can communicate and rationalize fairly normally, his body retains many Overblot traits, affecting even his eyes.
I’d also like to think that it’s why we never see Crowley use magic in the game. Although he does use it in the manga and light novels, I think they’re fairly basic shield spells that even 2nd year NRC students can use (according to Leona). It makes me wonder if Crowley only uses magic in highly specific and safe conditions. For example, the school barrier, spell cast over the Ramshackle guest room, and the Colosseum in Book 5 are all said to have powerful barriers on them. I think Crowley’s safest magic is long-lasting and non-attack spells. Once these barriers are cast, they stay there for as long as possible until attacked with brute force.
Crowley has to be incredibly powerful, but he can’t really involve himself in most dangerous situations because any amount of blot might just tip his body and mental state over the edge.
Neteyam x F!reader
prologue || chapter i || chapter ii || chapter iii || chapter v
warnings: angst, sadness, war, mentions of guns, reader kills quaritch, neteyam dies but is revived, not proofread.
English is in italics.
wordcount: 2.7k
A/N: so i basically changed most of the plot from avatar 2 cause obviously there will be a different outcome, and uhm nobody dies except the villains!! soo hooray ig, reader doesn't know spider because she didn't have a chance to ever meet him.
Tumblr media
“War.” as soon as the words leave her mouth your eyes widen, “What do you mean by war?” you ask shakily, “They're destroying villages, ecosystem, killing the oceanic life as a way to threaten people, its- it's a fucking mess.” aria grits her teeth, trying to control her anger.
“y/n, we are moving to the village, fetch jake as soon as possible.” she says and you nod, “oh and also– eat and save up as much as energy possible, you probably will need that for the war.” she says and you nod again, before going to the cafeteria.
You noticed everyone was eating in bulks, preparing for the war and you do the same, sitting next to one of your colleague, kiara, “It's going to be a war apparently.” she speaks and you gulp, “Yeah the RDA are fucking idiots.” you curse them under your breath making her chuckle.
“We heard you located jake sully, we all will be making our way there soon, we already wrecked RDA's fort in the sea, but prior to that they had already launched a few ships(?) Is that what you call them?” she says and you take in all the details she's telling you, “And that's the ship which is going around and causing havoc, they have a human with them who is fluent in Na'vi, helping them, we're not sure if he's willingly doing that but whatever it is, it needs to be stopped.” she finishes her words before taking in another bite of her food.
You looked down, feeling useless for an odd reason, your peers have been actively engaging in battle with the RDA, even managing to cause damage to them yet you only located jake sully and nothing more, you haven't managed to convince him yet either, you groan in frustration, your self doubts and inferiority complex trying to eat you up.
“Hey, it's okay.” Kiara says almost as if she understood you, you give her a reassuring smile before you both finish your food and get up, making your way to the room.
You quickly get back in the link unit and try to connect to your avatar.
You open your eyes again in your avatar body, feeling energized, you take in your surroundings, neteyam was still asleep, his arms wrapped around your waist, hugging you to him, you slowly unwrap his hands and get up, before quickly making your way to jake's marui, it was raining and you notice how the olo'eyktan tonowari was already present there, you quickly make your wat there.
You greet both of them and they turn to look at you, “Mr. Sully” you call out while gasping for air, “its officially started.” you say confusing him, “War, war has begun.” you say making him gasp and tonorwari nods, “the RDA troops– are near.” you say and jake looks at tonowari, “that is what I was talking to him about, earlier.” he says.
Jake breathes in deeply, closing his eyes, neytiri has heard everything too, jake knew what he needed to do, he opened his eyes slowly looking before looking at you and tonowari, giving him a nod, “Let's prepare.” he says and that's all you and tonowari needed to hear.
Neteyam stirs in his sleep, hands frantically searching for you as he feels nothing but empty space beside him, his eyes shoot open before he looks around, he noticed that it was raining, before he could go out and look for you, a horn was blown, indicating an emergency clan meeting, he quickly went to where the clan has gathered.
He noticed you in the crowd, quickly making his way to you, cupping your face as you looked up at him, people were muttering to themselves wondering what was happening, until tonowari spoke up, “The sky people, are coming.” he said making everyone gasp, “We have to prepare for battle.” he says making everyone hiss, they all scream in unison before they turn to look at you, neteyam holds you close to his chest before things can escalate further tonowari shouts “STAY CALM!” making everyone go silent immediately.
“There are good sky people and bad one, we are against war with the bad one... called? Rrr D Ah.” he tries his best to speak the english letters and you give him a nod, “The great warrior and toruk makto, Jake, will lead you. Along with the newer warrior, Y/n.” he says and that was when jake steps up as tonowari called him over, before you leave neteyams arms and go into the center of attention.
“There will be troops sent to us soon, to aid us in battle against RDA.” you say and jake sully nods before he speaks up and explains the plan as well.
As time passed by, the dread of war grew, neteyam was trying to calm you down, you were getting anxious as time goes by, pacing around the room, neteyam pulls you unto his lap hugging you, you immediately relax in his hold, “Love, please do not worry.” he says kissing your neck and you look up at him. “I'm just– you know what, you're right.” you caress his face.
Oh how much you've learnt to love this man in the past few months, he had been hostile of you at first until he finally opened up to you, never leaving your side since then, your mind was plagued by negative thoughts, you knew that war will always accompany deaths, this hurts your heart, knowing you could be loosing your troops, your colleagues.
You were snapped out of your thoughts by a huge horn and exploding noises, you and neteyam both stood up, grabbing your respective weapons, before looking at each other and heading off.
It was here.
------------------------------------
You looked at the submarines and ships that have come, they outnumbered you the clan, heck, even if they didn't, they have far more advanced weapons which could destroy and blow up the entire village in no time.
You don't know how much time has passed since you last saw neteyam, you both went your separate ways, fighting for the people, fending off the RDA machines, you were losing hope as they kept coming and coming, almost like no end until you saw a couple of aircraft flying in, shooting down the RDA boats.
You immediately smiled, finally. Took them long enough, you thought, “EVERYONE! do not attack the machines in the sky! they are friends.” you say, into the thing wrapped around your neck, it was a communication device which you provided everyone in the clan with to communicate better.
When the clan was preparing for battle you quickly retreated into the forest and to your abandoned air craft before you found a bunch of communication devices and weapons stored in the emergency part of the plane, which is where you got them from, providing jake sully with an advanced gun since he was the only trained person to use it along with you.
You guys quickly retreated back to the land as the explosions were getting intense, radiating deadly heat, it seems most of the metkayina have also retreated as your people were constantly launching the weapons at the RDA troops.
You made your way through the people and spotted ronal and everyone else but you weren't able to find the sully family anywhere, so you assumed they would be at the main ship, where quaritch was located, you quickly jumped into the water and your skimwing came to you immediately, you connected your queues and went off to find them.
You noticed jake sully and his family gathered around someone, along with another human boy, and you quickly made your way there, your heart dropped in your stomach as you let go of your skimwing and made it onto the land.
Eyes widening as you took in the sight in front of you, neteyam was badly injured, you noticed as lo'ak pressed his hand unto his chest, blood pooling around it and your mind went blank, you were frozen in shock.
“Y/n....” neteyam called out to you making everyone turn to look at you with tears in their eyes, 'no no no no, this can't be happening.' you tell yourself.
You quickly snap out of your frozen state and go next to neteyam, he looks up at you with the same love filled eyes as you hug his hand, “nete-neteyam, you'll be fine, you— you will be o-okay.” you say trying to not panic as you notice his breathing getting gradually slower.
You close your eyes, blinking away your tears, “oh eywa, great mother, please no no no” you beg as you slowly watch neteyam's pupils shift in size, indicating that he won't be making it, you held him close to you.
You shouldn't have left him, this is so cruel of fate, separating you guys at the beginning of the war only for you to see him again as he's taking his last breath, “oh great mother, please help. please.” you start sobbing.
It seems that eywa has heard your calls when suddenly an aircraft floats lands next to you, you realised that it was your troops, they seemed to have spotted this situation from above and landed here, you noticed the girl from the cafeteria earlier, Kiara.
“Oh my god! He's bleeding badly, quick!” she yells as few others come out of the aircraft with advanced medical equipment, they notice that it's an open wound, they lay him on his side as the other person behind him presses hard onto his back where he was bleeding out of, they quickly inject a numbing medicine near his shoulder before using the medical thread and needle to seal his wound up as soon as they can.
By the time they are finally done patching it up, it seems neteyam had already taken his last breath, eyes closed, his heart no longer beating, the small monitor showing a flat line, making your eyes widen as you nudge him, shake him, literally anything to make him alive, you sit back on your heels taking in the sight in front of you, tears streaming down your face as your mind goes blank, watching as neytiri holds her son to her chest crying and wailing, jake seemed to be the same as you, emotionally blank, and lo'ak looking at the blood in his hands, crying.
“Y/n— he's still warm.” neytiri notices, immediately telling you, it seems that kiara had also understood what it meant and asks the people to bring out the defibrillator.
When the Na'vi truly die, their temperature immediately drops, their bodies become cold almost instantly, neteyam still being warm meant that he was still alive, even tho his heart has stopped beating.
Neytiri quickly gets out of their way as they apply a protection layer on the electric tools before placing them appropriately on his chest, “one, two, three go.” kiara says, and an electric buzz is heard as neteyam chest rises and falls still.
A few more tries was all it took until finally a sharp inhale is heard from his body as his heart starts beating again, he was breathing again, and his heart beat was also stable but the one thing is that he hasn't opened his eyes yet.
You hear jake let out a sigh of relief until his face drops again, you could hear a voice coming from his earpiece but couldn't make out what it was saying “where are your sisters?” he asks lo'ak, “i- i do not know–” before lo'ak can finish his sentence tsireya interrupts, “in the ship, they're in the ship” as she wipes her tears away, “I'll show you the way.” the human boy says, grabbing jakes arm, “they have our daughters.” he says which makes neytiri look at him at shock before her face twists in anger, she had almost lost her son, and now her daughters are threatened.
“Wait!” kiara exclaims into her earpiece you look at her confused, “They have their daughters on the ship, you cannot bomb it.” she says harshly and your eyes widen as you look at the aircraft floating above the ship, neytiri starts to panic at that and jake calms her down, “calm! have a strong heart, let's go get our daughters.” he says before neytiri calms down and nods.
Lo'ak gets up to follow them telling him he wants to help him, but jake stops him, glancing at his oldest son before looking back at him, “You've done enough.” and jake and neytiri take off.
Lo'ak quickly follows them shortly after, you do the same, you reassure tsireya to stick with neteyam and along with your peers before jumping into the ocean, and swimming your way towards the boat.
Your heart was filled with rage, almost losing your mate, the man who you learnt to love so much, to RDA, the name alone filled you with disgust, they had done this before too, taking many innocent lives with no remorse, many Na'vi lost their life, and so did few innocent humans, they really had no fucking shame, you were blinded by rage as you recall all the horrible things they have done, you quickly grabbed the gun that was on the floor shooting any human on sight.
By the time you had made your way to where jake sully was, you noticed how there were makeshift cuffs wrapped around jake sully's arms, his weapon was thrown on the floor, you noticed how kiri was held under the knife of quaritch, threatening jake that if he comes with the RDA then he would let his daughters go, and jake was about to do that until quaritch dropped dead, which then revealed you behind him.
You were behind him, he was so off guard to notice your presence, you aimed your gun at his head and shot him, a bullet to his head, this had shocked literally everyone, jake looked up at you as he gulped, your pupils were wide, tail wagging threatningly slowly behind you, as you approached his body, no one dared to say anything.
The human boy was shocked and kiri looked at you, “Let's leave, they're about to bomb this ship.” you say and you all leave together, going to where neteyam was, you watch as the aircraft from above drops a big weapon making the ship explode in the water, the impact causes the water to splash in all direction, hitting nearby structures with such a great force causing the other boats near by to be succumbed into the water drowning everything.
The radiation of the explosion hits all of you, making you want to peel your skin off due to how warm it was getting until the water cools it down.
When you finally reach to where neteyam was, he was still unconscious, however his face looks more relaxed than it did, “he's in a coma, don't know when he'll wake up.” kiara says and you gladly accept it, anything was better than him being dead.
All of you hug each other, as the war had come to an end, the multiple aircrafts land on the water, becoming pseudo boats, you quickly spot one coming over to you where you guys were, you all quickly get on and it drops you off at your village.
Neteyam was taken to your marui, he was laid down on the ground, a makeshift pillow support his head as he was given iv fluids so his body is hydrated, you hugged his hand rubbing it against your cheek.
Neytiri put her hand on your shoulder and you look up at her, she pulls you into a hug and you break down in her arms, she has accepted you finally, you couldn't blame her for being hostile obviously, you witnessed what humans could do yourself, you slowly slip into unconscious in her arms, you were so fucking tired.
You wake up, but this time it wasn't in your human body, but in the middle of nowhere, everything around you was surrounded by light before you heard a voice, it sounded like it was coming from inside you, a thank you was said, before you could try to figure out what it was, you wake up in your human body.
You were confused, this has never happened before, you get up from your link unit and see almost everyone the same, you spot kiara before you run over to her and hug her tightly, “thank you.” you say and she hugs you back, smiling at you.
“It's meeting time!”
A Very Important Update
Sorry for the radio silence folks, it's been what, two months now?
I am so so so sorry.
Development for the game has not been entirely halted, it's had to take its pauses. I personally have gotten a few sprites worked on that will be needed for the prologue, and was even working on the extra special cg that will hopefully set the tone for the game.
There's just been one teensy problem... my health.
For those who just want a quick summary, I've had a string of unfortunate health issues, that while manageable at first, has now led to a very severe wrench into development plans for now. If you don't want any details, skip the cut. Especially if you're sensitive to the topics of cancer and heart problems.
With that in mind, development has NOT stopped entirely. It's just made me more glad I said not to expect the game anytime soon. I still want it finished, God himself can not tear this game out of my hands. I just have to be a little careful with how I go about it for a while.
I see we've gotten so many more followers, and there are plenty of messages for me to parse through, and I'll be getting through those! I hope to be more active now that I'm on what we could call the road to recovery, and I hope to deliver more content to you soon. For those who want more in-depth answers and insight into what's going on. The cut below has it all. I felt awful keeping you all in the dark, and Salt has suggested I finally tell y'all. So here it is.
To start with. I have Thyroid cancer, have had it for a little while, and I'm set to begin the real meat of treatment and chemo and all its fun stuff within the year. With that, it doesn't actually impact my life too much. I'm more tired yes, and I can only really do things in my free-time on days I don't work, since I work 10 hour days and those take up nearly ALL of my energy, so far it's been a good cycle.
I've found my rhythm, and I was working on the game through it! ....So, what changed? About almost 3 weeks ago now, I had a heart attack at work. It went untreated since I was unaware of the signs of a heart attack at the time, and due to that, I merely just finished my shift and went home. Yes, that's right. I had a heart attack and kept working.
I know. It was so so so stupid at the time, but I was so worried about inconveniencing my coworkers that I stayed. Thankfully it was not a severe one, more on the light to moderate side. I passed out for a few seconds, but mostly just felt like my heart had been kicked by a horse, starry vision, numb left arm, the works.
The next day I felt so awful I skipped work, but the day after I went back in, still feeling bad, but due to how my dad raised me... If I'm gonna suffer, might as well make money while doing it. Turns out, I was nowhere near better! I passed out at work, several times, and finally decided oh shit.. I should go to the hospital. They were able to diagnose that yes, I had a heart attack, and that I probably had caused some damage to my heart, damage they at the time couldn't see, and basically sent me home with a doctor's note to avoid work.
That's fine! Just a few days off, and I'll be better right?
Hahahaha, no.
I kept continuing to pass out, and as the days passed, it was happening more frequently. I'll save you some time, I was in and out of ER's, and finally two days ago, I was in-patient in a hospital for over 24 hours.
They found out that my heart is seemingly fine, but for no reason they can tell at the time, my BPM drops below 50, and sometimes even below 40 when I pass out. Walking, standing, heck, even sitting, can cause me to pass out. And even just laying down (I was marked as a high fall risk patient so I was basically locked to my bed the entire time watching Bluey ((I may be someone who writes awful things but even I love Bluey))) I still continued to pass out.
Literally just yesterday I was cleared to go home, with a little machine patch on my heart, that will record my heart rate for the next week, and if i pass out, I'm to hit the button on it, and record in their journal what happened, when, and why. Seems easy stuff, and for now I'm totally home-bound. I can't even walk out to my shed without having a severe fainting episode.
There's just one problem, besides moving around, and I feel like such a weak Victorian maiden saying this. But if I get too wound up or excited, I also grow faint. I literally. Faint at the sight of ankles now. I am so weak and dying.
What this means for the game is a little rough, since the game itself makes me so happy, heck, just talking ideas with Salt has me bouncing off the walls, and I have to take breaks from doing so to go lay down cause I'm gonna pass out from happiness.
For a... spicy game. With spicy elements. It means I have to pace myself so so so much cause my ass swooning harder than the girls over Gaston just cause I drew Malleus shirtless.
Good news is with this patch on me, recovery should be coming soon, they'll HAVE to find something. It can't last forever. I initially had an awful arrhythmia, and that went away, so the future is open! They've already determined it's not fatal, so I won't perish, but if I do go...
I hope I go out because I saw a spicy fanart of Malleus and got so excited I passed out and cracked my head open.
It's the only way to go.
Thanks for listening, and I hope to be able to give more updates soon, on the game, not me, please do not worry for me. I am literally immortal until proven otherwise.
Diabolik Lovers LOST EDEN ー Yuma Ecstasy [Prologue]
Tumblr media
ー The scene starts by the World Tree
Yui: ( Yuma-kun...He hasn’t come out today either. )
( I was hoping that once he had calmed down, we could make a grave for Lucks-san to give him at least somewhat of a proper send-off. )
( But by the looks of it, I guess it’s still difficult for him to give all of this a place... )
...Huh?
( What an incredibly large tree...I wonder what kind of tree it is? )
Shuu: That’s the World Tree.
ー Shuu walks up to her
Yui: Shuu-san...Are you talking about this tree?
Shuu: Yeah. You were curious, right? It shows on your face right away.
Yui: D-Does it?
Shuu: This is...A tree which controls the World, just like its name suggests.
I doubt you’re aware of it, but this World has disappeared many times, before being born again.
Apparently that’s how the eras come and go.
Shuu: Father once told me that this Tree will also wither and bloom in accordance to that.
Yui: So basically this World has been reborn time after time?
Shuu: I guess so. I don’t know all the details either.
Well, unfortunately, it seems like this Tree has already withered quite a bit.
Yui: ( ...He’s right. There’s a bunch of dead leaves scattered around it. But... )
This tree also disappears and grows again alongside the World, right? In which case, once it withers...
Shuu: The World might also come to an end alongside it.
Oh well, it comes from that guy. Who knows if he was speaking the truth or not. Although I won’t deny that it’s an ominous story.
Yui: It’s a little scary, huh...?
Shuu: ...Say, don’t you resent me?
Yui: Eh...?
Shuu: You wanted to save the Ghouls as well, didn’t you? Then don’t you bear a grudge against me for killing that one Ghoul?
Yui: ...I don’t.
Of course, it hurts me too when I consider how Yuma-kun must feel right now. But still...
I fully realize that you had no other choice back then.
Because I believe you would have died if you didn’t make that choice.
Shuu: Hah...You never change, do you? You’re such a fool, still trying to stick up for me even though you’re in love with Yuma.
...I guess it might have been fate that the two of us would one day find ourselves in this sort of situation.
We were never quite on the same page after all. Like two different tones clashing with each other.
I’m pretty sure it’s been like that ever since we kids. Although I didn’t pay mind to it back then because it was such a trivial thing.
Yui: But...You were friends, right?
Shuu: ...Who knows. It’s been too long, I forgot.
...I’ll get going now. I’m pretty sure that’d be for the best.
Yui: Eh?
ー Yuma approaches them
Yui: Yuma-kun!
Shuu: ...
ー Shuu walks away
Yui: Ah, Shuu-saーー
Yuma: Lay it off, Yui.
Yui ( ...I guess he’s still upset after all. )
( I cant believe they’ve had such a fall-out during a time when we should be working together instead... )
...Are you alright?
Yuma: Yeah, I made ya worried, didn’t I? ...Or that’s what I’d like to tell ya at least, but to be honest, my mind’s still a mess.
I feel pathetic havin’ to say this but I have no clue what to do.
Say, what do ya...think I should do next?
Yui: ...I...can definitely understand why Ruki-kun and the others want to protect Eden.
I also realize that they simply don’t have the time to be saving the Ghouls now when they already have their hands full with that.
However...Even so, I don’t want to simply disregard Lucks-san’s feelings and his desire to bring the Ghouls happiness either.
That’s why I believe it would be best to try and do whatever we can for the Ghouls, all while protecting Eden at the same time...I suppose.
Yuma: ...Well, that would be ideal. I feel the same way.
But now’s hardly the time to be talkin’ ‘bout best-case-scenarios.
We received an update from our Familiars. It seems like various Demon Clans are ready to work together and wipe out the Ravens for good.
Yui: Wipe out...!? Why would they do that!?
Yuma: I dunno why but...That Kino bastard has been huntin’ down Demons in the human world, remember? Seems like the different Clan leaders picked up on that.
Kino might be Karlheinz-sama’s son and a force to be reckoned with, he’s still workin’ together with Ghouls.
I can’t imagine those Ghouls can stand up ‘gainst an army of Demons. ...What happened to Lucks proves my point.
If an actual war breaks loose, I’m pretty sure Rotigenberg will go up in flames in no time.
With the Ghouls sufferin’ the same fate, obviously.
Yui: Ugh...
Yuma: I mean, sure, after everythin’ Kino and those Ghouls did, ya could say they sealed their own fate.
But well, the other Demons have been those Ghouls like shit too, haven’t they?
Despite shunnin’ them, they don’t shy away from usin’ them as slaves when it benefits them.
It’s hella pretentious of them to think they can now just get rid of them from the moment they become a nuisance.
Yui: So the Demons didn’t simply dislike the Ghouls?
Yuma: No, that’s the exact reason. They made the Ghouls do all of the dirty work they don’t want to do themselves.
In other words, they used them to their advantage.
In the end, Ghouls are nothin’ but tools in their eyes. That’s why they can kill them without battin’ an eye.
Even though the Ghouls...and Boss, they’ve only tryin’ to live their life to the fullest. As if I’d let this happen...!
Yui: ...
Yuma: ...My bad. I guess I really haven’t sorted out my emotions yet.
But I can’t help but be reminded of the past by this whole situation.
Those who think they can use power to force their will, they don’t care if others suffer as a result of their actions.
Even if it kills someone, they can just easily move on with their lifves. ...I don’t wanna be that sorta guy.
Yui: ( Yuma-kun... )
...Hey, Yuma-kun. Why don’t we make a grave for Lucks-san?
Yuma: A grave?
Yui: You mentioned this way back as well, didn’t you? That you wanted to give your friends a proper burial.
Even though he met his end in such an unfortunate way, if you send him your prayers...It could be a way to somewhat repay him, right?
Yuma: But Lucks-san is gone. There’s nothin’ to bury...
Yui: We can bury his soul, not his physical body. And we can pray...that his soul may rest in peace.
Unlike before, you now know exactly where he is after all. So...What do you say?
Yuma: ...You’re right. If everyone else turns a blind eye, then we just gotta pray for him.
I want to let him know...that there’s still people here who remember that he was alive.
*TIMESKIP*
Yuma: ーー I guess this’ll do.
It’s more so a pile of soil and flowers rather than a proper grave though.
Yui: That’s plenty. It’s the sentiment which counts.
Yuma: Hah, I guess the daughter of a Priest sees things differently.
...My bad, Boss. I failed to save ya for the second time in a row.
But ya entrusted your dream with me once more. ...Just like ya did back then.
I’m the still unreliable loser I was back then but...Thank ya for havin’ faith in me regardless.
Yui: ( ...Lucks-san. Your dreams is now safe in Yuma-kun’s hands. So may you please rest in peace... )
Yuma: ...Guess we won’t get anywhere by stayin’ depressed forever, huh? Guess we should head back soon.
Yui: Yeah...
...Hey, Yuma-kun. Why don’t we try asking the others for help one more time?
Yuma: ...It’s no use. I’m pretty sure ya also realize that they’re not up for it?
Yui: But they might change their mind when they hear it directly from you.
The other Mukami brothers in particular might be able to somewhat relate to the Ghouls’ struggles.
Yuma: I mean...I guess ya have a point. But what has gotten into ya? You’re all fired up all of a sudden.
Yui: I just want to be there for you at all times, that’s all.
Yuma: ...
...Hah. I can’t say no after hearin’ those words from the woman I love.
Right. Forget ‘bout the Sakamaki’s for now, but I’ll try to get my message across to Ruki and the gang.
Givin’ up without doin’ anything would be a true sign of weakness.
Monologue
ーー However.
The others ended up turning down,
Yuma-kun’s request.
They did sympathize with their dire situation.
But they are simply too busy protecting Eden,
it would be difficult to help out the Ghouls as well.
That is what Ruki-kun told him upfront.
As for Reiji-san and his brothers,
he said that they simply could not feel bad,
for those Ghouls who went out there hunting down their kind.
While it may be true that they are mistreated,
he questioned if that made their actions any less of a crime as well.
In the end, we found ourselves back at square one.
ー The scene shifts to the Grand Hall at Eden
Yuma: ...Gotcha. Sorry for wastin’ yer time.
ー Yuma walks away
Kou: ...Yuma-kun!
ー Kou and Azusa chase after him
Reiji: ...Forget about us for a second, but are you sure you lot made the right decision?
Ruki: What other choice do we have? ...We don’t have the power to protect everything and everyone we want to.
Shuu: ...
ー The scene shifts to the entrance hall
Kou: Hold up, Yuma-kun! Where are you going!?
Yuma: Don’t worry. I won’t bother y’all no more.
Kou: Don’t call it that! It’s not...
Azusa: Yuma...We would like to help out those Ghouls as well, deep down. We understand how they feel after all...
Kou: Exactly. ...But.
Yuma: I know. It’s not worth abandonin’ Eden over. Correct?
I don’t think you’re wrong to think that. Y’all should protect whatever feels right.
Azusa: You...don’t want to protect Eden then...?
Yuma: As if. This place is just as much my home.
But right now, Shuu is its owner. Even if Eden is precious to me...I can no longer obey that guy.
Kou: Yuma-kun...
Yuma: My bad for bein’ such a selfish prick. Tell Ruki I’m sorry as well. ...I failed him as a younger brother.
Let’s go, Yui.
Yui: ...Okay.
ー The scene shifts to the outside of Eden
Yui: ...I’m sorry.
Yuma: I figured you’d apologize. I bet you’re blamin’ yerself for this, aren’t ya?
I’m pretty sure I would have done the same thing, even if ya weren’t there to give me that final push in the back. I’m glad that I actually got to tell them everythin’ in the end.
Yui: But...I don’t like how it seems like you guys will grow apart now...
Yuma: It can’t be helped.
I’ve lost a lot of pals in my lifetime, but those guys...I thought family would last forever at least.
Still...I guess deep down, there was a part of me which thought that maybe this time would one day come.
Unlike those dudes, I’m a greedy idiot. I can’t choose one over the other.
I want to protect everythin’ dear to me, and I can’t easily give up on that, even when I realize that it’s impossible.
Yui: ...Yeah.
Yuma: Obviously, I wanna protect Eden as well. Like I’ve said before, I don’t want to lose my home again.
But...Ruki and the others will keep it safe, even if I’m not here. That’s why I believe Eden will be fine.
However...There’s nobody else willin’ to rescue and protect those Ghouls.
That’s why I’ll do it. ...In Boss’ place.
I just can’t crush his dreams again now that he entrusted me with it for the second time. ...Will ya make fun of me for bein’ a blockhead?
Yui: I would never. I love that side of you.
Yuma: ...Thanks.
I know that I can’t blame Shuu for what happened to Shuu.
But if only he had come to Eden...and had tackled the issue sooner, then none of this would have happened.
When I look at it like that, I just can’t bring myself to forgive him.
That’s why I’ve decided to side with those who’ve been gettin’ pushed ‘round by those in power their whole lives.
Yui: ...Even if that means you’ll have to make your brothers and the Sakamaki’s your enemy?
Yuma: I’ve made my resolve. That’s the path I chose for myself.
Yui: ...I understand.
Yuma: I do feel bad for draggin’ ya into my mess...
Yui: You keep on saying sorry. Didn’t I tell you...that I’ll be your ally, no matter what happens?
Yuma: Yeah, ya did. ...Come ‘ere, Yui.
ー He embraces her
*Rustle*
Yuma: I don’t know whether I feel grateful for bein’ able to meet Boss again or not but, it did make me realize one thing.
I’m glad I got to introduce ya to him. ...I’m pretty sure he can finally feel relieved now.
ー The scene shifts to Kino’s manor
Yuuri: ーー Kino. I’ve received a message from our Familiar. Yuma-san has left Eden.
We believe that he has broken ties with the Vampire Clan.
Kino: Heeh! He went that far, huh? ...Fufu, things are getting interesting.
Yuuri: Will you act upon this?
Kino: Let me think...Nah, I think we can play the waiting game for now. I mean, they’ll surely come here, won’t they?
*Ding・dong*
Kino: Speak of the devil! He’s more clever than I thought. I guess he realizes that
Well then...How shall I use this to my advantage?
ーー TO BE CONTINUED ーー
Uhhhh how am I doing this
Probably more then pics to go with
Yeah let's do that 👍
Here we go
It's set in the future, I haven't made a date yet but it's a work in progress like every thing else. It's far enough in the future that a bunch of cities have either grown or merged into a bunch of metropolitan cities all over earth. Obviously this means more power to keep them running hence there's I giant nuclear reactor in the middle of this one.
Having learnt from other accidents, they build the actual reactor bit with the radiation and stuff as realistically far underground as they can
But they apparently didn't learn and the reactor does a little Chornobyl
Now a little magic comes in and instead of killing everyone, it's stop the residents from physically aging
NO IT'S NOT REALISTIC IT'S A FANTASY UNIVERSE THAT MAKES ME HAPPY. IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM RESPECTFULLY MOVE ALONG PLEASE!!
so the residents now have I minor form of basic immortality and this is just the prologue? Intro? Of this little universe
NOW
my world is set only a few years after, I'm thinking about 4-6 ish years. Adults are having fun and just currently finding ways to cure illnesses as the reactor obviously didn't stop them from getting sick. So that's going on and if the adults stopped, then the children have obviously not aged either.
Now kids will be kids.
They have basic wants, needs, desires etcetera etcetera and the government is the government. A bunch of assholes. They don't care about the kids and have kind of abandonded them at this point resulting in A LOT of children either in orphanages or simply on the streets, being uncared for, with only some lucky ones being able to stay with their families for a plethora of reasons I can't be asked to make or explain.
This has caused groups to form which I'll go into more detail about soon but the Metropolis has been divided into 4 groups, or sectors as they're called, each with a different characteristic
First we have the North sector also known as the Education sector
The East sector known as the Industrial sector
The South, known as the Leisure sector
And finally the West, commonly known as the trade sector
Each sector has a chosen leader or (in the West's case) group in charge
In charge of what?
Trading, gaining money, alliances, saftey and in general; caring for the children that make up their group or whatever
So far; North, south and east are represented with colours
North is gold
East is crimson
And South is a light purple and neon green (woooo Disney villain colours or whatever)
I haven't decided west yet, give me time
I've got a few basic ideas for the areas sorry if my handwriting is shit I'll type it aswell
It's not the best yet but I'm saving that for later
Anyway
Tumblr media
The North sector- knowledge
The North is led by Amir, aged 15
He's half Syrian and is lucky to still live with his mother
Most educational systems are located here, mostly unis and colleges
Not too many children stay here as there are more adults up here than anything as the government is most notably located here aswell
It's seen as strict and formal and is represented with the mark of a golden quill because quills... Knowledge, you get the idea
Next
Tumblr media
Sorry it's side ways, I'm not spoiling anything yet
The East sector- industrial
The East sector is led by the youngest leader, Irene, aged 14
She's 1/3 Japanese from her mother and 1/3 Greek from her father (weird combo I know makes it better)
Industrial was a friends suggestion because I had no other idea what to call it.
It has most of the cities seamstresses, blacksmiths (cuz cool ass weapons) and shops in general
Over here it's custom to wear animal themed masks (interpret this how you like just don't be an ass about it)
Some do it to hide identity, some do it as a form of identity (don't be an ass) but some do it as Irene wears one and they follow suit
Irene herself wears a lightweight deer make that shes decorated the Antlers with using various jewellery such as rings, bangle, bracelets, necklaces, small chains and earrings. This causes the mask to make small jingles (how tf do you describe jewellery sounds?) as she moves
This sector is represented with a mark of a crimson key (it's a mix of the Greek and Japanese symbol for power and I'm very happy with is :D)
Up next
Tumblr media
The South sector- leisure
The South sector is led by Cael, our Irish little drawf (I made them ginger too cuz LEPRECHAUNZZ). They are (funnily enough) the second oldest leader at 16
This sector doesn't need to much explaining as people come here to relax, have fun, party, yadda yadda ya
(Shit I could have called it the recreation sector... Leisure sounds more right tho... Fuck)
This sectors group is known for being a wild bunch, with Cael gladly taking charge. Wearing a brightly colored assortment of clothes and styles, this lot are known to host 24/7 parties in many hidden clubs, nooks and crannies
This sector in general has most of the big ass multi story buildings in such a small space giving it a maze like feel with all the alleyways and such. A great place for unmonitered children to go nuts to their hearts desire
This lively bunch are represents with a Royal lotus, a symbol of relaxation and in my head cannon, refuge
And finally
Tumblr media
Again sorry for it being sideways
The West sector- trade
Much like the south, this sector needs probably no explanation
Unlike the others, a group of friends leads the biggest sector of the Metropolis, all of them are Colombian so not only do they know their way around the city like the backs of their hands, they know a lot of people and can get away with shit a lot of other children cant
We have:
Carlos- the oldest of the bunch at 17, hes the strongman if the group
Next we have Gitana aged 16- she's the traveller (illeagally but thats not a problem)
Then we have Tayci and her twin brother Kaimi both at 15- Tayci is a silent runner with Kaimi being a perfect lookout for the group
There's a lot so buckle up
The West sector is by the shore, with most of the citys docks being located here with ships constantly moving in and out. This group was the first to form, having claimed most of the city and has used this to trade with the other sectors and a few smaller groups, overall earning the most income
Each member has used the docks to their advantage as well, having different roles allocated to them through their strengths in order to do so.
What is this may you ask?
Easy
Theft
They steal from boats coming into to the city in order to supply the rest of it in general. They group together with a bunch of other children and split up, collecting anything useful or I'm demand
Carlos is the oldest and strongest, being able to carry heavier crates
Tayci is quick and quiet, being able to zip around unnoticed
And Kaimi has some insane fucking vision, making him a perfect lookout from a high enough angle, using walkie talkies to guide the group undetected
Gitana's approach is a bit different and with Carlos's approval, has her own group of 8-11 that illeagally hop on the boats leaving the ports, travelling to other countries. Once over there they take anything that may not usually be imported over to the Metropolis and bring it home.
They do not currently have a symbol or colour but I'm thinking a grey one with Gitana's go up having a blue one to go with, the blue representing the water as they travel overseas
DONE
This was a lot to type, time to address stuff
Yes there are probably many faults in this which will be covered in posts to come, either on purpose or by coincidence
No I'm not giving too much info on the characters
HOWEVER
I have 2 designs which I might do like teasers or something for so anyone reading this isn't left in the dark for 2 spontaneous months (I need to get my shit together and be more consistent. I'm trying I swear)
Ive got some background for the South currently as it's so far the most visually pleasing to imagine for me and I may post either later or tomorrow depending on how quick I do my fucking homework
I'm trying to sort a lot of it out so it makes more sense
I hope anyone reading this is as excited as I am
I will post moths at some point but this has me hooked right now so I might do a huge art dump
Also next month I'm getting a iPad for me birthday 🥳🥳🥳 so I can finally do digital art so anything I post now shall hopefully be better quality
I will remind anyone probably closer to the date aswell
If you read this and am interested, please stay 🙏🙏🙏
I'm very passionate about this and if anyone at all enjoys it I'll be more than happy to continue
Thank you for reading this far
I admire your patience, willingness and overall generosity to listen to a yr 11 ramble about their passion project
Moots said they wanna hear about WIPs and I feel like I gotta get this brainrot out anyways so HERE I GO
I've only got three projects I'm actively working on right now, all of which are Owl House fanfics, although I've got ideas here and there for other things (video games I might've made if I weren't so burnt out, ttrpg characters that might need their own goddamn settings and stories to themselves, a Code Lyoko fanfic, music (mostly loads of disconnected song lyrics), 3D avatars, etc).
The Owl House fanfics in question are three(-ish?) fold:
Theseus Who?, a mostly-canon-compliant 5+1 post-titanification headcanon compilation that DOESN'T just let Luz keep her titan form (mostly it's just a bunch of changes along the lines of when Hunter's eyes changed color after Flapjack saved him). - It's actually sort of a tie-in to another, bigger fic I'm writing that's gonna be point 2, so you can assume anything mentioned in this one will happen throughout the timeline of the next one as well. - I've currently already got the 5 written, so now I just need to buckle down and finish the +1, unless I decide to do another sweep of edits (I think the excessive parentheticals might be too excessive). - - I only started it like a week ago, and I've been waiting for motivation to strike again to let me finish it for like half that time.
Masha and the Very Normal Nocedas, a mostly-canon-compliant sorta-multimedia veesha longfic based on the dramatic irony of Masha slowly driving themself nuts trying to piece together what the Deal is with Luz, Vee, and the rest of the Nocedas. - by "sorta-multimedia" i mean its got plaintext segments describing the story, journal segments of Masha recounting events as they remember them and trying to organize their thoughts, chat segments when the characters interact over text, and possibly more if I feel the Need. - I've only outlined the three prologue chapters and the following intermission, only have snippets and vague ideas for scenes for the main bulk of the fic itself, and have only actually written two of the prologue chapters and the intermission. - - won't start posting it until I at least get the third prologue chapter done, so I've got a usable buffer. Hopefully that'll be sooner rather than later.
The Overthinker AU (or "The Artificer AU"? name is also very much a work in progress), a canon rewrite that I think I'll actually split into a bunch of shorter "episodes", so I can appropriately tag each one, rather than tagging one monolithic fic with Everything Under The Sun. The basic premise is "what if The Owl House, but there's more time", both in the meta sense of "not bound by the 20-minute TV episode format" and the diegetic sense of "the broad-strokes plot of the show will happen over a longer in-universe period of time" (though I'm a bit stuck on just how much more time I want to give em). - for the most part, I wanted to put more emphasis on Luz's magical development, and extrapolate a somewhat wider magic system out of what we see in the show, but I also want to go into more detail on how her actions affect those around her, even outside of all the friends she makes (stuff along the lines of the little things the crowd mentioned while protesting Eda's petrification at the end of season 1). - I'm almost (reluctantly) thinking of pulling a Grapes of Wrath with it, structure-wise, by having main plot/character development chapters alternate with shorter intermissions focused on magical exploration, worldbuilding, and so on. - this project is currently just the scribblings of a madwoman in my private discord server and three wildly unfinished fics in my google docs folder - - one of these fics is Something Like a Bible, which is essentially a condensed version of the entire broader project, boiled down to bare plot and occasional commentary. Like a series outline and a plot synopsis rolled into one, though perhaps not quite the series bible it claims to be. - - - honestly I REALLY aughtta work on this one some more, just so I can get most of the Big Ideas out of my head and share them with people. - - the other two fics are currently untitled snippets of scenes from the project, one a sentimental/instructional note from Eda to Luz, and the other sort of a ragefic twist on the ending of Thanks to Them. - this project is gonna include tons of ideas from and allusions to other fics which inspired it/me, such as The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled by IdeaHunter, All that's at Stake by The_Lampman, and Decorative by TheTokenAro, to name a few. - I could make a whole post about this project on its own (and in fact, I have before), talking about all the little changes I'd make, the developments I'd include, the more sweeping changes, the additional themes I'd toss in, and so on, but there are some I REALLY don't think fit well into the "rambling tumblr post" format (and/or just don't want to spoil yet), so I shall Abstain (for now :P).
[kicks down the door like the kool-aid man]: hi oscar talk to me about your favorite scene that you’ve written?
Sorry this took so long to answer, I was, apparently, writing an entire thesis. You Have Been Warned.
Oh my god uhhh. My favourite scene…okay, if I had to go with one, it’d probably be the scene from The Valiant Never Taste of Death I unofficially refer to as ‘Everybody’s dying bitch, let’s get you some peanut butter’. This comes about a quarter of the way through the second (proper) chapter, Requiem (NB: if we’re going by AO3 numbers then it’s Chapter 3, since there’s a Prologue chapter as well, but I don’t tend to count that numerically), and it’s the bit where Nate gently bullies Brad into sitting down and having a snack. And then uno reverse-cards him into talking about his childhood trauma. [Slaps scene] This bad boy can fit so many emotions in it!
For those unfamiliar with Halo 4 (which in all likelihood is most if not all of you), you should know that for the most part, I tend to hew fairly closely to the story and plot structure of the game when writing Valiant. But linear first person shooters don’t offer the characters a lot of opportunities to sit down and talk about their feelings, so this scene is an oscartwofoxtrot original! Sure, the action scenes can be fun, but there’s nothing I love more than getting to write Brad and Nate in their quiet moments, and I crowbarred this one in here to really dig into that Deep Halo Lore and hopefully use it to get at some of the complexities of their dynamic in this AU.
Speaking of complexities, you ask me anything at all about Valiant and I am not so much going to unpack the suitcase as start pulling hat stands and potted plants out of it Mary Poppins-style, so…this shit’s gonna need an itemised list.
1. Nate: [Basically refuses to acknowledge his own mortality, but you better believe he makes sure Brad remembers to eat and take a break every once in a while]. Also, Brad displaying just how whipped he really is. They may not have the same relationship dynamic as canon, but Brad pretty much lets Nate tell him what to do most of the time. tbh I think he likes it.
2. We get another hint at the circumstances surrounding Nate’s capture by the Gravemind. I alluded to this event in the prologue but have thus far avoided going into too much detail about it, so you’d better believe it’s a Surprise Tool That Will Help Us Later. One of the biggest challenges of writing an AU based on the fourth game in a series is finding the Goldilocks Zone of exposition – too much and you lose the current plot thread as well as the attention of literally everyone reading; not enough and the whole thing is virtually incomprehensible to normal people who don’t spend all their time on Halopedia. Trying to get that balance right is, shall we say, an ongoing struggle.
That said, I have been having way too much fun throwing out passing references to stuff like this – and this particular occurrence is a Big Deal in the world of Brad and Nate, because I think it may be the only time they’d been apart for more than like 24 hours since they started working together. (The backstory of their first meeting is a whole other essay in its own right, so I’ll just slap a sticker on this that says ‘Ask Me About My Canon Timeline In The Very Unlikely Event That You Are Interested’). Nate had become such a permanent fixture in Brad’s life, I doubt Brad understood what it would even feel like to miss him until he was gone.
And now that Nate’s life is in danger again, Brad has a very clear understanding of the stakes involved. Almost losing him the first time…it wasn’t The Moment of Realisation (more on that later), but it certainly did crystallise some deeper level of awareness on just how important Nate is to him. Of course, last time, the problem was one of distance – Brad was light-years away and couldn’t immediately get back to Nate, but there was a fortress to storm and a dragon to slay so he could save him. This time, Brad is right there, and he can see Nate suffering, and there is absolutely nothing he can do about it.
3. Couldn’t resist throwing in a version of the Peanut Butter MRE Temper Tantrum lol. I am at heart a giant sap and I do love writing them joking around and just being incredibly fond of each other. Because there’s no officer-enlisted divide here, it gives them more room to develop the casual familiarity and vaguely flirtatious banter we see hints of in the show. The spectre of Nate’s Rampancy does cast a pall over the whole thing, but it wouldn’t be Generation Kill without some serious mood whiplash. Speaking of which…
4. Hello and welcome to my impromptu TED Talk on the Insane Fucking Lore behind the SPARTAN-II program! (On all levels except physical I am this Brian David Gilbert Unraveled video). That’s right: the Spartan-IIs were kidnapped from their families at the age of six and, to avoid suspicion, replaced by clones implanted with their memories who would die within months due to congenital health issues caused by the cloning process. And as Nate points out, the UNSC didn’t even have the justification of the Covenant War, because that hadn’t started yet! They did this shit because various colony worlds wanted independence from the United Earth Government – but that would negatively affect the economy, so apparently the only two options available were ‘bloody civil war costing billions of human lives’ or ‘covert military operations to quash nascent insurrectionist uprisings, carried out by fucking child soldiers who we put through brutal training and experimental bio-augmentations that killed or permanently maimed like half of them’.
So, uh. That’s fucked! And what’s wild is that even though this has been a feature of the expanded universe since the beginning, it’s something that’s barely ever touched on in the games. Nate only knows about it because he went snooping for Brad’s unredacted file not long after they met for the first time (based on Cortana doing the same in the Halo prequel novel The Fall of Reach). For what it’s worth, Brad’s stated mindset is pretty typical of how the Spartans themselves feel about the whole thing: it’s been normalised for them because it’s the only life they know.
Nate, meanwhile, is understandably horrified, and it’s clear they both recognise the parallels between their experiences – the UNSC took away Nate’s autonomy too, by the very act of his creation. In between the Gravemind and the Rampancy, it’s something he’s been increasingly struggling with: that he was brought into being as a fully-formed person to serve a specific purpose, with the knowledge that he’d only have an operational lifespan of seven years before his systems started to decay irreparably. I can’t put it better than the Gravemind did (courtesy of the Halo short story Human Weakness by Karen Traviss): “Your creators made you separate. They placed a barrier between you and the beings that you would be encouraged to protect, a wall you could never breach. They even gave you a human to centre your existence upon, a human to care about, yet never considered how you might feel at never being able to simply touch him. Or how he might feel about outliving you.”
Damn are you guys seeing this shit? This is fucking crazy! Anyway I’m Rod Serling
5. Rule number one of Valiant: Brad does not know that he’s in love with Nate. Ya boi is pining without even realising that he’s pining. This isn’t a reflection of how I most commonly interpret canon – I look at show!Brad and I’m like ‘yeah, there’s a guy who’s 100% self-aware that he’s simping for his platoon commander’ – but in this AU, the Spartans’ lack of normal human socialisation has left him without any practical life experience of things like romance, so he’s just not quite able to put a name to those feelings. Yet, anyway.
As for Nate? I’ve been writing under the assumption that he is aware of his own feelings, but isn’t totally sure of Brad’s. I reckon he probably has a good enough read on Brad to at least suspect that Brad might reciprocate if made aware of the situation, but without any way to be certain, Nate’s unlikely to bring it up. Even I’m not fully decided on when Nate’s Moment of Realisation was. I do have a few ideas, but it’s not a detail that’s ever specifically relevant to the fic, so feel free to speculate.
In conclusion: …idk man, it’s been a year since I wrote this and I don’t completely hate it yet so. that’s probably a good sign, right? sorry for rambling it will happen again
Ari or Robin, not sure what I should call you. 😭
I would like to know the significance of the blood vial necklace. If you would like to go into detail on it. 👉👈💖
Robin is fine!! :D Ari is just my url / oc, might get confusing .......
But! Yeah! The blood vial!
Tumblr media
So, in the Markarth prologues, Gwendis gives a bit of information about some vampire lore and culture. The first part only triggers if you're not a vampire or werewolf — she gives a mortal player a pendant that lets them see using vampiric sight so they can see the sigils left by the gray host. She says it's infused with her "essence", and I take that as blood, because vampire blood seems to be pretty powerful given the stuff she says when you're at the castle.
When you're exploring the Host's old castle, she'll make a dream-walking potion to go through Verandis's memories of the place. You need blood for that. Luckily, she says she has a vial of Verandis's blood, because it's a Ravenwatch tradition to exchange blood samples to keep on hand. She says something about how it's a dangerous thing to give blood to another vampire, which is an interesting idea. In my head I kind of associate it with blood magic from other media: you have someone's blood, maybe you have some control over them, or because it's vampire specific, the ability to kill them?
But it's also a show of trust between the Ravenwatch! You're basically holding a part of everyone else's life in your hands. It makes sense to me that Verandis, who'd betrayed his former family because of their cruelty, would put a measure of safety into his new family to say "one of you goes bad, any one of us can put a stop to it".
I took both those ideas and put them together to say hey, it would make sense for the pendant to be infused with actual liquid blood. Kept in a crystal or glass vial to actually use if the time ever comes for it.
For Laurent and Fenn, in what I write for them... Fenn gives a pendant to Laurent after the Tzinghalis situation. Not only out of a need to keep Laurent safe by helping him see with heightened senses, but to say "you saved my life and because of that, I trust you to continue to keep me safe and not abuse this trinket". It's also symbolic of welcoming Laurent into the Ravenwatch, even without permission from the rest of the family, because Fenn already knows he's welcome in Laurent's family. It's reciprocation.
Tengen saying Ayame is had a sheltered life, like bruh. Ayame essentially tossed aside her identity to live out her brothers dream to become a hashira, got slightly over it only to go home and find her entire village and family murdered to the point that she's had ground beef to bury instead of people, oh and tried to throw hands with Tomiyoka Giyu of all people to save some boy she barely knows and his freshly turned demon sister. And that's just the prologue.
tengen………… might know the most of ayame out of the other non-shishou hashiras (that includes shinobu too, yes), but he doesn't actually know her. kyoujurou used to talk a lot about her fighting spirit, how well she was doing in training and, well, basically bragging about her as an apprentice. he did the same with mitsuri too! it's just that he didn't spend as much time training mitsuri and she branched out to her own breathing style, so it wasn't like he was going to continuously praise her on her mastery of the forms of breath of flame.
that being said, ayame is a very private person. up to his death, kyoujurou still didn't know what she saw in okutama the day giyuu sent her back. he never knew the full scope of what happened (giyuu never told him she attacked him) and he doesn't know the details. therefore, tengen doesn't know the details. even if kyoujurou had known, he wouldn't have told tengen; ultimately, that's ayame's choice.
tengen was fun to dive into! he knows so much, but also so little. i don't think he even knows about her brother, actually. he's building assumptions based on the knowledge he knows and that is very out of line with what we know. i hope that it was a fun little insight into how ayame presents herself versus how we know she's actually like!
but yes, tengen. maybe don't make assumptions about ayame. she's probably some of the least sheltered kisatsutai members u can find. she's probably only beat by the hashiras and tanjirou, at this point.
Steamboy: Worst Kind of Disappointment
Tumblr media
If there's anything to say about mangaka and film director Katsuhiro Otomo, it's that he has a recognize style. He especially developed a well distinct look for any character he makes; he's that perfect middle ground between soft like Tezuka but structured like Satoshi Kon. He's well know for Akira, a manga turned revolutionary anime film, but it's later in the early 2000s where we got Steamboy, originally meant to be an OVA made into one of the most expensive anime films at the time. Rightfully so for a two hour movie which wouldn't seem like much, given there are other films before and after that surpass in length, but considering the animation work you would understand. I say all this because the movie was not good. In fact it's one of those films that made me feel so divorced from it by the end that you immediately wish the time you lost could be made back.
Tumblr media
Basically the Anthony Fantano of anime movies
I have nothing against Otomo but Steamboy's visuals does not make up for the most shallow, boring story. Well "boring" isn't the right word, more dragged out because I can tell you this amounted to nothing but a drastically long prologue. Everything about this movie I can sum up as "it does enough, but it's not satisfying". Prime example is the character Scarlett.
Tumblr media
She's the asshole rich girl our main character meets after getting kidnapped by her granddad's company agents. We get *one* scene with her sharing that she isn't a total brat but after that, any depth of her is just her yelling about not knowing what's going on. She helps at the end, but it means so little when she was hardly tolerable for a majority of the movie. This goes for the other characters beyond Ray the MC, the characterization they get only presents the illusion of nuance while you're more focused on the happening chaos. I hate to say this as well, but it's the same reason why I don't think Akira's as great* as they say.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
*when you consider the manga vs the film
You ever feel like if there were certain details added then it'd resonate with you better? That's how I feel with this because after reading enough of the manga, it is more than clear that Otomo had to condense this story a lot. It's reasonable given that the film existed before the manga finished and with its animation, they were pushing enough for it to also be two hours. However, that comes in sacrifice behind the depth with the characters which you probably wouldn't notice. I feel there's something to be said about how many knew about Akira from the film more than the manga, probably like Oldboy is more (rightfully) famous with the movie than the manga it's based off. All this to say I still love it, it's still visually amazing, but I don't think it's wrong to say this doesn't work as perfectly from a structure perspective. Then again, I can say Akira worked in getting a beginning, middle, and end. Steamboy, as mentioned before, felt like nothing but a prologue to the actual story we never got. Before I present the reason why I made this essay, I want to present the basic idea of how Steamboy gets through it's plot.
Tumblr media
I made a rough but simple graph on it. If you know films, then you can see the intro and first acts are notably small. The intro I say is from the beginning to when Ray gets kidnapped by the foundation. It's a great start, it says enough. The first act, give and take, is when Ray is in London to the next morning when the exhibition is starting. The second act is basically the rest of the movie. I say this because it just starts and stops abruptly, the film goes to 100 quick and it ends with nothing in regards of anyone's fate beyond London being saved from the Steam Castle and an open-ended stinger. And you increasingly feel that second act, man, it's a continuous string of everyone working the big steam machines, fighting the military, and Ray realizing his father's made a big mistake and has to stop him with his grandfather. This isn't one where you aren't against the blue-balling runtime, but where you feel it's all happening in real time and it gets agonizing. Watching this twice, genuinely said to myself "it just keeps going" at several points where it teases an impactful final confrontation but just doesn't. It does not feel satisfying when you're just wishing it ends. It's not even good suffering, it gets tedious seeing tons of steam and hearing tons of exposition like it's a card battle over something you understood eons ago. Then it just ends. You don't even get any sort real aftermath after the day was saved, nothing on how the characters are feeling, might feel about everything that happened.
Tumblr media
Earwig and the Witch at least had an epilogue
But you know, I could forgive all of that, everything, if that (???) I put on the chart above wasn't the most insulting part of this movie. I'm talking the credits where it's basically a whole other story compacted into a long montage AFTER THE MOVIE'S OVER!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Literally a whole movie concept in the CREDIT ROLL
What pisses me off about this isn't that those concepts exist in the credits, but that it tells a story that genuinely feels more eventful than the actual movie itself. We could've got Ray as more a steam powered rocketeer superhero, Scarlett as an air pilot, a whole war happening upon so much else but no. We're stuck focusing on what is essentially the beginning of the story. It's like if all we got from Forrest Gump is him as a child. As visually unique as this was, Steamboy never felt like we could go anywhere beyond the drab looking monolith set up as this big thing. It doesn't help when the technology we know of overshadow the characters because I would've rather watch a "How It's Made" video than pretend to connect with this journey. What really sucks the most about all this is that if you wanted a film about a large mobile castle, discussing the follies of war...
Tumblr media
Ghibli released one literally the same year
My thoughts/feelings on Howl's Moving Castle are hazy since it's been a while, but I can at least remember that that film had a better sense of pace and casting than this, especially when the titular castle got to be a character in its own right. I understand Otomo's intent of discussing how technology can be abused for war no matter the side, but when you get the point after a while you wished you could connect with the characters better than this. Characters work as a through-line of the point you want to make, and aside Ray getting his jetpack and deciding to confront his father who wants to destroy London which is based, I stop caring when that is the extent of his arc. Again it's enough but never satisfying.
Tumblr media
Putting my issues aside, I don't hate this film. When you put in the fact this originally was supposed to be a couple 20 minute animations, I can appreciate that Otomo was able to get the plot together at all. It's a case of using a pen in a swordfight where, like Akira, he worked within the limits and developed a workable enough story. However unlike Akira this is apparently wholly original, not based as an adaptation, so I could see the pressure he'd have in directing a two hour film. I think what's telling about Otomo's work style is that Akira was the only long form work he did early in his career, the movie was when he transitioned into doing films more while making more short form content. I believe he works better when the project isn't massive and Steamboy being a 20 minute OVA miniseries would've suited him better on top of everything else he was doing but wasn't against the ambition of making it a whole movie. It makes this film at least respectable for what it wanted to do in spite of my issues.
Then again, Steamboy isn't a film I'd ever want to go back to after this essay because after everything is said and done, the credits showed me a film I wanted but could never have.
Tumblr media
That... is the worst kind of disappointment.
Literally the only aspect of Serot's story that would be a challenge to translate to Dragon Age is him being reborn, but I think I could plausibly finagle it?
Just say that Serot's bond with Refhremmit essentially stopped time for his body and left it all sealed up like we see with Ameridan and Hakkon. Except the intent was to merge with Refhremmit, not seal them, so Refhremmit isn't stuck in the place where that happened. Serot's soul / consciousness is unable to move on, though, so he keeps getting basically reincarnated. (Am I playing fast and loose with canon? Absolutely, but tbh DA canon is held together by silly string. With more finagling, I could really make this work.)
Now Serot is definitely from Nevarra and definitely a forefather of the modern Mortalitasi. One thing we know about present day Mortalitasi is they're essentially running the country, using the aged King Markus as a puppet. This leads to some Mortalitasi getting too drunk on power and running experiments they really shouldn't. It also led to some allying with Venatori (who exploited that to steal sacred relics, infiltrate the court / mind control the king, etc.). They could easily have done something that fucked with Serot + Refhremmit's bond and subsequently unsealed his body. Serot's soul / consciousness returned to it, but devoid of his memories.
I don't want him to immediately get recognized as Serot, though. We'll say the Mortalitasi are able to clock he was one of them over a thousand years ago — or is made up to appear that way. Lots of questions about whether this is some disrespectful bullshit or if he's truly an ancient returned to life, etc etc.
Either way, for DA:O we can say that Genitivi's quest for the Urn of Sacred Ashes took him to Nevarra before Ferelden. Hector was slain before the gates of Nevarra City trying to prevent the Imperium from capturing Andraste, so it's probable Havard found safe harbor there while smuggling her ashes south. Serot was probably alive during that time period or was born shortly after? So although his memory has issues, between that and knowledge from subsequent lifetimes, he's very useful to Genitivi's research. He decides to join his quest as this is also the only lead he has on himself. He gets separated from Genitivi in Ferelden, though. The Warden will encounter him randomly on the road and can recruit him. The Urn of Sacred Ashes is what restores his memories in full. He has a lot to grapple with.
Idk how to fit him into DAII tbh. I think he only has a cameo. When he leaves Ferelden after the Blight, he sails from Amaranthine to Kirkwall. He's there circa Act II. Maybe he hits a spot of trouble with the templars and/or Chantry and Hawke can help him out, idk. Regardless, he takes ship to Cumberland from there.
I think he's trynna keep his true identity under wraps back in Nevarra, but how successful he is is a question for future me. Either way, he ends up back with the Mortalitasi and is working toward purging the corruption in the order. This leads us to DA:I. See the Venatori were active in Tevinter before DA:I began and had undoubtedly infiltrated Nevarra before then as well. This leads him to Ferelden where the cult is, oddly, beginning to concentrate. Leliana, who traveled with him during the Blight, recruited him basically the second her agents caught sight of him snooping around Redcliffe. He's already in the Inquisition when the prologue occurs, although it's up to the Herald whether they ask him to join their party. His side quests and war table missions really focus on combating the Venatori, especially in Nevarra. However, his personal quest involves Meresankh. The details can wait til I eventually polish up this verse sdklfhg Basic gist would be that, in this verse, Meresankh was basically consumed by / merged with a demon. Serot wants to untangle them and save Meresankh. Unfortunately, that's not easily done; in fact, it might be impossible. It's all a matter of whether Serot can be convinced to stop before he destroys himself trying to save them.
Raku Plays Her Faves, Ys VIII, Chapter 2: Well...That Escalated Quickly
So...remember way back in the Prologue where I said I liked the whole fancy dinner and drinks on the Lombardia part? Because it felt kind of like the opening to an Agatha Christie novel? That’s still true.
But you know what feels even more like an Agatha Christie novel?
Tumblr media
An actual murderer on the loose.
(Here there be some spoilers for the climax of Chapter 2. Be warned! On one hand, I kinda hate discussing spoilers because I don’t want to discourage people from finding stuff out on their own, but on the other hand, it’s easily one of my favorite parts of the game because I’m a sucker for mysteries. Also, I’d like to point out that this doesn’t spoil the entire game - just the end of Chapter 2.)
Told you Chapter 2 got way more exciting. So how the blue fuck did we get to this point?
First, let’s backtrack some. In the Prologue we had the shipwreck on the cursed island, in Chapter 1 we set up some basics of the game and story. Chapter 2 is where, after getting us nice and comfy, the story throws a couple of monkey wrenches into the works to complicate things. One you’ve already seen: Adol starts having weirdly specific dreams about a young lady named Dana, who appears to be from some completely different civilization set during a different era. We won’t get a full explanation for that for quite some time, and it’s not what we’re discussing today anyway.
Nope, today we focus on the bigger and more immediate monkey wrench: the climax of Chapter 2. Adol, Laxia, and Sahad have been spending much of this chapter exploring the island, battling monsters, and finding other survivors from the Lombardia shipwreck. We already know they’ve found Captain Barbaros, Dogi, and Alison the tailor. Here’s a quick rundown of all the other castaways they’ve found so far, more or less in the order they found them:
Tumblr media
Halfway through the Towering Coral Forest, they found these two. Sitting on the ground is Sir Carlan, a cartoonishly snotty nobleman who (supposedly) sprained his ankle. He was being tended to by the man in the vest, a doctor named Kiergaard.
Tumblr media
Kiergaard told them where to find another castaway, a lady named Kathleen who’s an expert blacksmith. She becomes the person who upgrades your weapons, and overall just an awesome character.
Tumblr media
On a different beach they encounter Hummel, the somewhat suspicious “Man in Black” on the Lombardia, who doesn’t talk to them at first. But after a little persistence he introduces himself as a transporter, which we learn later on is sort of a niche delivery service. One where they don’t ask any pesky questions about what’s in the package. Questions like: Are there drugs in here? Is this a sack of laundry or a dead body? or, Why is this box ticking?
After their first meeting, he shows up later on and joins Adol’s party for a while. It is fucking hilarious to watch Hummel harvest things like flowers or bird eggs, because he’s a sniper and doesn’t have a close-range basic attack outside of battle. He literally shoots everything with his rifle.
Tumblr media
I also like the little wing detail on his hat, which reminds me of the old FTD delivery company logo, which itself is a reference to Hermes, who among other things was the Greek messenger god.
Tumblr media
Speaking of god, in a cave behind a waterfall, they found a nun, Sister Nia.
Tumblr media
On yet another shore they found a young merchant, Dina. She takes over the trading post when she gets back to Castaway Village. There’s no currency in the game - naturally, since they’re all shipwrecked on a deserted island. So technically you can’t buy or sell anything. But the game works around that nicely by allowing you to trade up many cheap items for rarer ones, or break up rare items into common ones, as you need them.
Tumblr media
Next they found an 11-year-old boy named Reja, and after a little more searching, the pikkard that saved his life by allowing him to cling to its body so the boy didn’t drown in the ocean. (Pikkards are a common farm animal in the Ys games.) With Dogi’s help, Reja sets up a little farm where you can plant seeds and harvest the fruit and vegetables that grow at regular intervals.
Tumblr media
In a place hilariously called Schlamm Jungle, they find this guy, a Romun military policeman named Euron. He’ll set up a little craft shop in the village where he can take apart armor and accessories you don’t need or want, and get back some of your items.
Tumblr media
Finally, on Odd Rock Coast, they found an overly skittish guy named Licht. Later he mentions he’s a medical resident.
Adol and company are literally about to escort Licht to the village when Little Paro finds them and squawks about an emergency. When they get back to Castaway Village, Dogi meets them and reports that Captain Barbaros was attacked and gravely wounded by an unknown assailant. Doctor Kiergaard had tended to his wounds, but the captain is still in pretty rough shape.
Tumblr media
When questioned, all the captain remembers before nearly being gutted was a man calling out to him. Unfortunately, he didn’t get a good look at his attacker. While the captain was being treated, the note from “Nemo” was found on a nearby table.
Tumblr media
At this point, Euron joins in, and we find out why he was on the Lombardia. Turns out he was tracking a serial killer known only as “The Nameless Ripper.” Euron and his partner were originally supposed to meet on board the Lombardia, where a suspect matching Nameless’ profile had also booked passage, and catch the guy. Only, the shipwreck kind of fucked everything up.
So Nameless is now running loose on the island, and this attack on the captain fits his M.O. - the random attack with a sharp weapon, a note signed “Nemo” (Euron explains that “Nemo” means “Nameless”, hence the “Nameless Ripper” moniker.) Which means he’s found the village, or - even worse - possibly IS one of the villagers. Dogi worries that it’ll only be a matter of time before the castaways start panicking and distrusting one another.
He doesn’t have to wait long.
Tumblr media
They hear a scream outside, and when they rush out to see what happened, they find Kiergaard tending to Sir Carlan’s leg once again - only this time, it genuinely is injured. Sir Carlan immediately starts throwing a fit, accusing random castaways, and insisting that they get him off the island right this fucking minute. He thinks that they can use the small fishing boat they made to row out and hail a passing ship. When it’s pointed out to him that virtually no ships go near the Isle of Seiren because of its reputation, and the tiny little boat won’t last long out in the waves of the deep ocean, it just pisses him off.
At that point, there’s a random beast attack on the village, and clearing them out diverts everyone’s attention for the rest of the day.
Overnight, we get a bit of character info dump for Laxia. It’s Adol’s shift on the night watch over the village. Laxia can’t sleep, so she cooks him a little meal, climbs up to the watchtower where he’s sitting, and basically apologizes for her earlier behavior towards him. It’s too long to put here, but short version, she was dealing with a lot of stressful shit even before she set foot on a doomed passenger ship.
Cut to the next morning....
Sir Carlan fucks off and steals the boat anyway. However, he doesn’t really know the first thing about how to steer it, so he gets stuck in a current. Adol and company run down the beach to try to catch him, and hopefully convince him to turn back.
He either can’t hear them at all, or refuses to, because he doesn’t try to turn around. There’s also a very big flaw in Sir Carlan’s plan that I failed to mention.
Tumblr media
The tentacled thing that sunk the Lombardia and countless ships before that? Yeeeeaah....it’s still out there.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And confronting it in a tiny boat goes about as well as you’d expect.
So, uh....yeah. That happened.
And Chapter 2 isn’t even over yet. In the next part, the investigation into the Nameless Ripper case will begin in earnest. Think you know who it is? Keep it to yourself for now. But eventually, we’ll see if you’re right. :)
Prologue
So, telling true stories that should probably have a trigger warning sticker slapped over them… I should probably start with the basics.
My dad, according to years of painful observation, is a narcissistic abusive jackass. I live with him, my mum, and my brother, and we’ve been dealing with this for, let’s just say, a really really long time.
I’m not sugarcoating any of this crap. There’s your trigger warning.
The kind of abuse is emotional, verbal, and psychological. And almost physical a few times. And financial, from what I’ve seen him do to my mum. The abuse, when it reaches its peak, is when he gets mad. Usually, grown-up men should have healthy self control, and not lash out and start calling his own kid(me) stupid and worse stuff I’ll get into later, and blaming their mum for them being that way.
It gets worse. But that’s details for later. I’m not telling this whole dang story in one post, I’m planning on letting people know what it’s like to have no one officially coming to save you because you have no bruises, what it’s like to be trapped holding on until you get yourself out.
I don’t really have a plan on how to write these, I think in the next post I’ll write more. But this is kind of an intro/prologue, (I like books, so I might write fanfiction here too, not on this blog, obviously) so I’ll probably write in a storytelling-like way, and the real stories will begin in the next post.
See you then!
