You liked to observe the beauty that Eywa gave to Pandora, you were still surprised by how beautiful the forest and the places it could hide, even after having grown up there and having been all those years among its leafy trees, even so, the forest hid secret and beautiful places, worthy of being seen and found by only those chosen ones.
Your mother was sure that you had a special connection with Eywa, practically since the day you were born and opened your eyes for the first time, green as a pair of emeralds. She told you that you had come into the world for a purpose, that you were Eywa's chosen one, in fact, those were her last words to you before she passed away in your arms, haunted all her life by an illness from which she never got better. And since then, Jake and Neytiri had taken care of you, accepting you into their family as if you had always been one of them. You soon became close to their children, especially with Neteyam, as you were close in age.
And because of that special fascination you had for the forest and nature in general, Neteyam made a habit of always bringing you things from his many explorations and hunts, things that reminded him of you; flowers, leaves and even rocks, bright and beautiful, out of the ordinary, that stood out among everything else, just like you.
“You don't have to, 'Teyam.” You always said every time he came to you once again with a new gift. But he would simply shake his head, offering you a charming and gentle little smile, ever so kind, ears slightly bent and gaze so bright every time he met yours that it seemed to dazzle you, leaving you completely mesmerized.
With a coy smile you tried to avert your gaze from his, analyzing the object now in your hands. “Really, it's not necessary.”
“I like to do it.” He would simply reply, seeking your gaze with his big, captivating, coaxing eyes, as if it were something insignificant, something that didn't matter, something that wasn't like the nicest thing anyone had ever done for you. And you would do nothing but grin at him. You couldn't stop smiling, your cheeks felt almost numb, but you were happy, content, he made you happy. And you knew that this, in the long run, would bring serious consequences, not so good, you supposed.
And now, in the huge ocean, when you thought nothing would surprise you anymore, Eywa seemed to turn every assumption you had upside down. Jake had taken you with him and his family to the place where the Metkayina Clan lived, leaving the Omaticaya behind, leaving the shelter that the forest offered you, to now be surrounded by the ocean; salt water and sandy land.
They had been kind enough to accept you into their home and to show you their ways, noting the great difference from your own, but, apparently the younger members of the clan were not as friendly to strangers as the older ones.
Ao'nung had been rather harsh with you, especially Kiri, whom they had addressed as a freak, as they had nicknamed her, and from there, the problem grew larger, for you and Lo'ak had taken up against them in her defense.
“Look at her.” Ao'nung called out, following Kiri like prey, looking at her with big, disgusted eyes. “Is she a freak or something?”
“Don't call her that.” You stated in a not at all friendly tone, scowl and defiant eyes looking up at the chief's son, pointing at him with your index finger and thus causing him to move backwards. “You have no right to call her that, did you hear me? The Chief's son or not, I'll kick your ass.”
With a tilt of your head, you stated the threat, making him snort ungraciously, looking at you with a raised eyebrow.
“For such a pretty little girl, you sure have a big mouth.” His big eyes narrowed as he spoke, demonstrating a smug attitude as he heard a couple of snickers from his little friends at his words. “You are one of us, little flower. Why you waste your time hanging out with these aliens?”
“Hey!” Lo'ak exclaimed, appearing at your side, fists clenched and face angry. “Don't call her that, get away from her!”
“Please, leave us alone.” Kiri grumbled behind your back, hearing how now, you were the target of annoyance from the little group.
Your mouth hung open wide, totally offended now, feeling the fury shake your body from head to toe, your tail wagging angrily as you lunged at him at the same time you heard an 'oh uh' from Lo'ak.
But your movement was halted as you watched as a body larger than yours stepped between you and the bully, leaving you in view of nothing but a broad back you knew all too well and blocking Ao'nung's smug, sneering face from your view.
“That's enough.” Neteyam said in a stern tone, deep voice and tense body, always as diplomatic and calm as ever, braids moving under the command of the wind and his head, which rose slightly, giving him a more stern and much more menacing stance. “As long as we are here you will treat my family with respect and call no one by other than their names.”
His head moved so that he could look at the faces of the little group that had formed, friends of Ao'nung, as silly as he was, apparently, but who, in Neteyam's presence, seemed to have been brought back to reality and put back in their places. They were not so foolish after all, they knew that against him they would have no choice but to flee. Cowards.
“(Y/N) is just fine for you, got it?”
“Whatever.” Ao'nung replied, rolling his eyes and starting to walk, bumping his shoulder against Neteyam's as he walked past him, his eyes met yours for a couple of seconds and he offered you a smirk, making you grunt and by the time you could take a step towards him, a hand found itself on your forearm, stopping any act of violence you had planned to do.
“Cowards.” Kiri spat, rolling her eyes.
When you looked back, Neteyam was looking at you with eyes, dark, but now filled with concern, his fingers barely caressing your skin before he pulled away from your arm.
“Are you okay, syulang?”
You rolled your eyes, sighing heavily. “I'd be better if I'd beaten that skxawng—”
“Hey.” He interrupted you, noticing how your ears were still bent and your tail twitching behind your back and he laid both of his hands on your shoulders now, in an attempt to reassure you, giving you delicate petting strokes. “It's okay, it's all over now.” His gaze traveled to his siblings behind you, moving his head and face transforming to one of authority, chin up. His voice came through loud and clear, almost scolding. “Home, now. You've had a lot for today.”
Lo'ak lifted his hands, looking incredulous. “But they were bugging-”
Neteyam was quick to interrupt him. “Home. We will talk to father later.”
The younger boy let out a snarl and without further ado, began walking back to where his family was staying, followed closely by Kiri, who kept a glum face, arms crossed over her chest.
And now, all of Neteyam's attention landed on you, as it naturally did, as his body always seemed to do instinctively, even though he didn't even intend to, he always focused on you, as if you were the center of the universe, the sun of his world, the core of his heart, the magnet of his mind and the horizon of his eyes. He saw you. He had always seen you. And practically everyone in his family knew, perhaps everyone on the whole planet, except for you, of course.
Neteyam had expressly refused any offer or even, even idea from his parents to find him a Tsahik as his position as the future leader of the clan, it was his duty and it behoved him to follow to the letter the duty that rested on his shoulders as the future chief, but now, all that had been left behind with his leaving. Now all he cared about having was you. All that mattered was you.
With a beautiful sunset behind him, he began to speak to you once again, hands gently running over your shoulders and arms, becoming more attentive, affectionate, but still concerned. His brow furrowed slightly and you knew immediately that a scolding was coming now. “What were you thinking, hm? Fighting them all?”
He was always like that with you, especially when you were alone together. Neteyam never felt he was enough for his father, and he too never seemed to be satisfied of him, let alone see all that his son did for his family, for his siblings and for him, but with you, with you everything was different, he could be different, he could be himself and he knew that was enough for you, you made him feel enough, you made him feel special.
“If that's what I had to do for protecting Kiri, Lo'ak and their family's honor, of course.” You answered immediately and with your words, sounding so sure and affirmative, Neteyam felt his heart be flooded with a most familiar warmth, an emotion quite well-known to him whenever you were near him and said things such as those, always putting others before yourself, putting the welfare of his family before yourself.
A smile tugged at Neteyam's lips, admiring you with bright, big eyes, his hands trailing down your shoulders, sliding down your arms to your hands, taking them between his own tenderly, fingers toying with yours absentmindedly as he watched the clear size difference.
“He called you little flower.” Neteyam stated after a silence of a couple of seconds, twisting his head. His jaw was clenched and ears barely tilted back. “I call you that.”
You bit your lower lip, holding back the smile that threatened to curve your lips at his clear display of jealousy. He was upset about it and you had to reassure him. Your fingers caressed his wrist, tracing imaginary lines down his forearm. “I like it better when you do it.”
“I sure hope so.” He smiled again and tugged on your hand, inviting you to walk with him, both of your hands tangled between his arm, and he didn't waste a second in drawing you to him. “I want to show you something.”
. . .
Neteyam had found the spot walking along the local beach, it was a bit far from the place where his family was staying and it was far from the town in general, but that made it a perfect location. It was a small bay, surrounded by coastal vegetation, a couple of palm trees and soft silky sand, but what was really amazing, was the glows of bioluminescence under the clear ocean water, algae of all colors, small animals swimming, with the sunset light bathing exquisitely over the turquoise sea.
It was beautiful, of course. But your reaction at the sight of it was even better; mouth half-open, eyes huge and amazed, face in wonder.
“'Yam… it's beautiful.” You murmured in a soft, barely audible tone of voice, but he was right next to you, as close to you as possible, so he could hear you perfectly. His fingers were intertwined with yours and he pulled you with him across the sand to the perfect place to sit.
“Yes it is. I found it as I was passing by... I immediately thought of you.” His gaze lowered with a hint of embarrassment flashing across his pretty face. “I know how much you love nature, all the things our great mother has given us, so, I thought, you would like it.” He stated and then shrugged, attitude becoming quite braggy now. “I've seen more beautiful things, though.”
You rolled your eyes, pushing your shoulder against his in amusement as you wrapped your arms around your knees, admiring the scenery in front of you. “Don't lie now.”
“I'm serious.” He laughed, looking up at you, analyzing every expression on your pretty face. “I'm no liar, you know that.”
You raised an eyebrow, turning your head so you could look at him now. “Really, huh? So what have you seen? What possibly have you seen prettier than this?”
Neteyam smiled thinly, stirring his arm lightly, his hand passed down your back, resting on the sand, fingers fiddling with it. “Something prettier than this?”
“Hm.” You hummed, looking at him curiously.
His ears perked up, gaze dropping to his lap, steeling himself inside, trying his hardest to calm the nerves that were practically eating him alive. And then, he moved his eyes up your body, until he met yours. “I'm looking at it right now.”
Your breath hitched and your mouth parted, feeling your body freeze. Your arms fell to either side of your body, adjusting your position.
“Nete…” You whispered in a shaky voice.
“Yes, sluyang?” He tilted his head softly. “I'm being honest.” He swallowed saliva, his hand trailing up your arm, caressing your shoulder and tracing your jaw, down to rest on your cheek, fingers tracing every inch of skin he could, arranging your hair and tucking it behind your ear. “I've always seen you as the most beautiful thing…” His lips trembled, faltering for a few moments. “I see you, (Y/N).”
You closed your eyes and rested your forehead against his, nuzzling his nose against yours. “I see you too, Neteyam.”
He closed his eyes too, caressing your face with his. “When that idiot called you flower and treated you that way… like you were nothing.” His hands cradled your face now, and you rose up to face him, completely silent, breathing agitatedly. He was breathing in an agitated way too, looking frustrated, disturbed. “I was furious. They should respect you. Every one of them should know that you are mine and they should treat you as such, as my equal, as my mate.”
You opened your eyes to find his eyes already on you, your fingers stroking his arms subconsciously. Your lips brushed his as you opened your mouth to speak in an agitated voice. “I want to be yours, Neteyam.”
“I can't pretend anymore.” He declared between shaky breaths, gaze traveling between your eyes and mouth as he shook his head. “I don't care what anyone else says, I don't want anyone else. I have already chosen. I just want you, (Y/N)... I was made for you.”
“Then just take me.” You murmured against his lips before joining them with yours in a needy, agitated kiss that felt as if everything at last, made sense, as if life had been created just for this moment, as if you had been brought to life just this moment, for each other.
It felt as if all the constellations had aligned for you, as if you had all the stars just for you, and that was given just once, you knew. Everything made you feel as if Ewya had created you for each other. You were made for each other and perhaps the Great Mother had aligned the whole universe for it, for you.
“I am yours.” He promised. “I always have been.”
Your legs tangled between his as you landed on his lap, being drawn in by his arms chaining themselves around your body, massaging your waist, tattooing his touch on your skin.
“Forever.”

shelli's note. SFW angst; attachment issues; “i love tonowari sm, he’s so big teddy bear-coded 🧸….”
masterlist | part 1, part 2, alternate ending
Tumblr media
"Tonowari, please, this is the fourth time this week.", you pleaded with your mate. Today marked the fourth day this week that Tonowari had left off to hunt with the hunters leaving you alone. In reality, you wouldn’t be this upset over him taking responsibility as the Olo’eyktan but he was being ridiculous. Leaving in the early morning to late after eclipse. You were sure to be mad at him.
Tonowari sighed and put his spear down for a mere second and grazed your cheek. “You know they can’t hunt without me” he expressed softly, “ They need me, yawntu.” Hearing the sweet nickname you settling into his touch for a second, touch and love starved before getting angry.
“Tonowari.” you spoke, “You barely have anytime for me anymore. I sit alone most nights and wait for you. The neighbors talk.” After saying this you felt tears swell in your eyes for this has been going on for sets of months and you were sick of it.
You both heard a male na’vi call Tonowari’s name outside the marui and looked back at him hoping for him to stay with you. But instead of the sweet eyes you were hoping to meet they were bitter.
He looked at you for a second before picking up his spear and uttering the words that you least wanted to hear. “I’m leaving.”
Before you could reach out to hold his arm he left. You stand in shock and watched him leave. Each step leaving you in even more confusion. This was not your husband. The Tonowari you knew was caring and loved you with all his heart. Always making sure no one ever hurt you, especially himself.
It hurt even worse each time your mind reminded you that he chose his work over his first love.
The entire day that was ahead of you was filled with sorrow. Tonowari was nowhere to be found of course. A part of you wanted to see him again so you could express your feelings.
After finishing your tasks as Tsa’hik you needed some closure so you went up to your favorite spot. It was past most maruis and covered by a huge tree next to it so it was a secret spot. You would climb up to the stretchy fabric and lay on it like a hammock.
Along with the comfort the view was peaceful. You could see a vast assortment of colorful plants and the hunting area. Right below you was the storage pile for all the nets and spears for hunting. Which also happened to be where the hunters would talk from time to time for relaxation.
Although seeing the hunting area did not help one bit. All the kisses and little smiles you would earn everyday. His sweet nothings that he would say to you in between tasks. His time and dedication to make you joyful for hours. You missed this. You missed him.
All the memories roamed around your mind. Especially one in particular.
Today was a very special day. A day which the Olo’eyktan and Tsa’hik go around the entire village and inspect for minor to major mistakes. And then settle in the main hall and have a meeting with all the leaders of the clan. (i.e. leader of hunting, main weaver, the Tsa’hik’s assistants, etc.)
“Tonowariii”, you exclaimed in a cheerful voice. You had just finished your hair and it looked gorgeous. Your voluptuous, bouncy curls with little pearls dangling here and there. Paired with the most beautiful seashell you’ve ever seen in all the islands.
Handpicked by Tonowari himself, which he found one day on the shore while walking around. Before he could grab it, the waves pulled it to sea! He was determined to get it for you so for days he searched in the ocean for it with his ilu; until it was found. You loved it and were finally wearing it now.
He came inside the marui unready for your beauty but not surprised in the slightest. The prettiest woman in Awa’atlu is what you were to him.
“Do you like it?”, you giggled.
“I love it.”, he replied while setting down a quick but cute kiss on your cheek before speaking again. “You are breathtaking.”
You giggled again before the two of you walked out of your marui. In the view were a couple of teenagers on ilus, apparently racing. They were getting closer and closer by the second before making a sharp turn right in front of your marui and you.
The water was about to splash all your hard work away. You closed your eyes and shielded your face with your arms but then opened them to Tonowari covered you all wet himself.
You stepped back in shock and guilt because he had spent almost a hour on his appearance and was now drenched in salty water.
“Tonowari! You’re all wet now!”, you worryingly expressed.
“It’s alright, tíyawn, as long as your fine.”, he replied with the sweet smile he always wore on his face.
You smiled back and noticed a bit of water on your arm. And some more on your chest. And everywhere. Looking up you realized it started to rain very quickly. Over the seconds the rain picked up swiftly and you were wet as well.
You looked over to your mate and stared in silence until you both bursted out laughing. How cute.
“Hey, yawntu.”, Tonowari spoke.
“Yes, my love?”
“Let’s not go anywhere today.”
“What?”
“Yeah, we can go to the beach and walk around.”
You ended up agreeing and you both ditched your duties. A fair display of his affection and his past priority of you over work. Both of you walked and talked. Giggled while you were hiding from the clan leaders.
After remembering the bonding you both went through maybe you were overreacting? Maybe he was having a bad day. You thought to yourself for a few moments and decided to stop thinking so much about the idea. You sat there in content for a few more minutes before you noticed something move in the corner of your eye. Or someone. You crouched down and saw Tonowari and his companions carrying fishing nets and such. Seeing him made your heart ache and you wanted to walk over there, talk it out, and give him a big hug. You smiled at the thought and continued to peer into their conversation from your hiding spot above. From what you could hear, you heard this; "Tonowari. Why do you still put up with her?", said one Metkayina Navi. "Yes, I agree. She's so clingy and frankly a horrible choice in Tsahik and your wife.", said another.
Hearing this made your smile fades and a cold sweat accompanied your back. Your eyes shot at Tonowari hoping he would deny these negative words. Tonowari sighed. "I don't know. I only mated with her because she is good as a Tsahik but she's irritating. So you're right about one thing.", he says confidently without any stuttering. Your heart dropped and you sat there in silence for a bit before slipping away from your hiding place. Tears started to swell in your eyes as you heard their mockery while leaving unnoticed. Their laughing about how "infuriating" you were. Regardless of that, you wouldn't care about anybody taunting you if only your mate and one "true" love hadn't been the one making these "jokes".
You wiped a tear falling down your eye but while you were busy with your sorrows an accessory of yours fell off your body. The seashell Tonowari had gifted you, something that you cherished.
After Tonowari and his friends had finished their ridicule Tonowari had gone to gather more of the spare nets on the shore. But he stopped in his tracks and stared down on the floor. At the seashell, you had dropped on the sand. And a wet tear to accompany it just a few steps away from the shell.

; love language - (SULLY BROTHERS)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
— (avatar : twow) -> drabble !
✧ — the sully brothers have qualities they seek in each of their partners.
cw. contains no spoilers ! gn , non sully + navi reader
auth notes. js watched twow and i literally sobbed in that theatre. avatar proves to stand as one of my fav films ever.
characters. lo’ak + neteyam sully (♡⃕)
warnings. injury / blood mention in lo’ak’s , slight angst for both but mainly fluff.
────────────── ·𖥸· ─────────────
𖠗 LO’AK — ༉‧₊˚.
loves physical touch. it is an act of trust and affirmation in his own catalogue of body language. he likes to slip his lithe fingers between your own to engraft the two of you together from the hip up — his hands are often pebbly and coarse from days of practice in the salty sea waters and bussed with fronts of ‘friendly banter’ with the other boys occupying the sea; scratches, bruises, even cuts. his day is often better when you’re treating his misgivings, soft skin melting against his own patch of skin. sometimes, when he feeling braver, if brave at all, he will slather his presence into you. that starts with rubbing your knuckles, index finger or even pinkie till you’re red and confused at the inundation of physical touch with him. your reactions are his catalyst. other days, when he’s heckled by jake or overriden by the boys, you will come to understand his pattern of touch — he’ll want you close. closer. touch his ears for him to crawl deeper into you. rub your knuckles against his cheek to keep him grounded. enclose your feet around his hips to keep him reminded of your subsistence of his trust — he’ll probably cry in your arms later.
𖠗 NETEYAM — ༉‧₊˚.
loves when you listen to him. this mustn’t be mistranslated to him being a deference freak — if there is anything he hates, it’s bossing you around. having you feel controlled. he loves when you’re most comfortable around him. but, when the time calls for it, he requires your time, your patience. this comes in the form of compliance to his word; jake instructed the two of you to stay out of battle? keep in the air and he will see the depth of his appreciation for you. sky people spotted raiding the meter ahead? stay touching toes with him in the foliage of the forest and he will learn of love, compassion. the golden fruit that is you, born from eywa. other days, when there are no baleful missions or pernicious members of earth filthying the land with bullets and spit, he loves when you just listen to him. being the oldest comes with its share of predicaments. swipe the hair out of his eye whilst nodding and he will pulse in your hold. maintain eye contact and he will meld with you. press your lips to his knuckles when his eyebrows furrow and he will riddle your skin with kisses.

Tumblr media
The air was tense today, thick with disciplined focus as you keep your ears alert for any incoming airships. Reeking of smoke and burning metal, a scent that is foreign and unpleasant to your nose, you remain aware of everything and anything. Gray clouds billowing and a pungent smell that cling to the back of your throat like a hand with a vice grip—nothing was natural.
Tilting your forehead forward, you hope your visor, decorated with teeth and interwoven pieces, will shield your eyes from the wind. You hold your bow tightly, the wood smooth against your fingers as you use your other hand to guide your ikran swiftly through the air.
“Calm, calm,” you soothe her, tapping your fingers along her strong neck.
You’re anxious today. Not because of the imminent arrival of the Sky People, their ships ready to fire metal bullets at you at any second; you’ve dealt with that many times before. No, the reason you’re nervous is because of Neteyam.
Today is Neteyam’s first day participating in the raid—well, his first raid on the ground with his father’s permission—rather than being a part of the aerial surveillance team. You tried to insist that you should accompany him, but, due to his wishes, you remained in the air beside his mother.
“Do you see anything yet?” Neytiri’s voice asks over the intercom.
Bringing your fingers to your throat to press the responding button, you reply, “Nothing yet.”
“I’m going to fly down to help gather some of the gear. You stay here,” she orders, raising her bow to signal that she and her ikran were descending.
“Let us know if you spot any bogeys. We’ve got some heavy-duty gear and need as much time as possible,” Jake informs you over the intercom.
“Roger that, sir,” you say, steering your ikran closer to where the enemy would most likely be approaching.
Ears twitching back and forth, you attempt to pick up the whir of an aircraft amongst the orders commanded, the creaks and minor explosions occurring from the Meg-Lev train your people have intercepted, and the wind blowing past you. You hope that maybe you could track a scent, sniffing the air a couple of times to no avail. It’s all smoke and metal. The skies were calm, except for your ikran’s screeching, however, they couldn’t be for long. There was no way those demons would allow your people to escape that easily.
“Hey,” Neteyam breathes over the intercom, a slight huff of your name. You could hear the smile on his face. “How’re things looking up there?”
“What happened to using my code name?” you question, peering over your ikran in an attempt to find him along the ground. “I’ll tell you if I see anything. I know how to do my job, you know.”
“Just double checking,”
You scoff, guiding your ikran to the right. “Maybe you should focus on gathering all of the gear instead,”
“Oh, really? Maybe you should-”
Suddenly, your ears flex forward, focused on the faint whirring of something mechanical and man-made; something that was not naturally occurring within your world.
“Airships spotted! Everyone, move!” you shout over the intercom. You yelp out into the open air, pumping your bow in tandem with the three shouts you release to alert your fellow brothers and sisters in battle.
Just as people begin clambering for their ikrans and direhorses, the two Scorpions start firing. The relentless pop of military guns fills your ears, causing your tail to swish frantically and your ears to perk forward.
Using a high pitch, you signal for your ikran to dive, swooping up and under the two fighter pilots.
“Do not engage! I repeat, do not engage! I want minimal casualties today,” Jake commands over the intercom, the background full of shouts and grunts.
“Jake, I’ve got to take out these two airships. They’re already taking down ikrans,” you spoke, peering up at the airships as you stealthily soar below.
Just then, Neteyam responds.
“No! Listen to my father, do not engage. I can lead the people to safety,”
“There won’t be any people to lead if I don’t take these airships down.”
Neteyam groans your name in warning, the sound of shouts heard from all around. “Would you listen for once?”
Jake barks your name, frustrated and frantic. “Get out of there! Get back to the High Camp!” he orders. You begin mapping out the plan of your attack. “That is a direct order!”
“I’m sorry, Jake,” you respond, ignoring all that comes after.
Your ikran shoots straight up into the air, coming close to the tail-end of the Scorpion gunship. You arch over the top of the gunship, upside down and looping over to the front side. The sun high in the sky and its beams creating a glare on the glass makes it difficult for you to spot the pilot. Upon finding his location, you draw the string of your bow taught, ready to fire.
“Incoming! Enemy on-”
You shriek upon release. The arrow flies straight through the glass, nailing your target right in the chest.
The gunship begins to tilt forward, preparing for its decline. As a hunter and warrior, it was your duty to pay respects to the creatures you killed in order to sustain the way of life. Kneeling over them, declaring your thanks, and wishing for their safe return to rest amongst the Great Mother was a sacred practice. However, as the gunship crashed and blew up in flames, hot and angry, you felt no thanks or remorse. They did not deserve to rest peacefully, and they didn’t even deserve to die on the Great Mother’s sacred soil. Their spirits deserved to walk alone, isolated and cold from the warm glow of the afterlife.
“You skxawng! What the hell are you doing?” Neteyam screams.
Looking around, you see the green back of his ikran, its rider perched on top with no visible concerns except for the fury etched on his face.
“I got this! It’s just one more,” you insist, positioning an arrow on your bow, eyeing the last gunship.
“May the Great Mother help you when I knock-” and with that, he’s easily ignored.
The wind whips past you, high and soft, almost like a whisper from Eywa that she too felt the tensions of battle. You would do anything to soothe her pain. She could not endure the suffering of this war much longer.
Tightening your grip on your ikran, her blues providing a stark contrast to the grayness of the military equipment, you attack from the rear yet again. Guns firing, you duck, placing yourself as flat as you can get against her back. However, once you approach the opening of the ship, where all of the massive guns were placed, you sit up, firing quickly.
The scream and weak grunt you heard confirms that it was a successful hit. Loading your bow with another arrow, you soar underneath the aircraft, looping around until you have the high ground. Securing your aim, your fingers release the string until the arrow flies straight into one of the Scorpion's propellers. A small explosion soon turned into a large one, the ship dipping to its left and falling from its dominant space in the sky to the dirt.
However, so were you.
You must’ve underestimated how close you were to the ship, your eagerness to protect your people and the Great Mother clouded your judgment.
The sound and burst of light, as well as the force, must’ve spooked your companion as she, too, seemed to have lost her place in the sky. She tumbles towards the ground, shrieks and roars released into the open air. Jaw clenched, you tried to convince her to gain control to no avail.
“Come on!” you shout, knuckles turning a pale blue with the tight grip you had.
As you neared the ground, panic began to set in. Your ears lay flat against your head in an attempt to not become overwhelmed by the wind, you tried to think quickly.
You could stay with your ikran, but you would both get injured; you could also disconnect from her and leap from the group, in hopes of only injuring yourself.
Deciding on the latter, you had one plea for the Great Mother:
“Please don’t let Neteyam kill me.”
Disconnecting your kuru, you leap the rest of the way to the ground, the shock of the force of your fall causing you to fall instead of landing perfectly on your feet. The ship crashes a couple of yards in front of you, the force of the blast propelling you forward.
Rolling and skidding along the dirt, pieces of gravel and discarded glass and metal tear at your skin. Red begins to bubble up along the surface, the violent opposite of your blue skin.
Tumbling down a hill, you lose your grip on your bow, the wood being left behind in your trail. The burning sensation of your flesh being scraped away keeps you alert, blindly clutching at anything to break your fall.
Eventually, you slow to a stop, landing on your stomach with a mouthful of dirt. Spitting and coughing up the soil, you take a minute to catch your breath. With a slight raise of your head, you look at the ship as the flames crackle and cause a film of sweat to break out on your skin. That hunk of metal was truly ugly against the backdrop of the forest.
You begin to slowly sit up, a sharp pain coming from your side. A cut, not deep enough to need stitches, slowly oozes blood down your left rib, crimson staining the skin. It looks swollen, screaming to be disinfected immediately. Reaching behind you to check for any more severe wounds, you arch away from your nimble fingers just upon a light graze. The heat from the explosion must’ve irritated the skin, causing soreness and slight bubbling in some places.
Minor scrapes along your knees and elbows from what you could see and feel, makes you thank Eywa for her protection and the benign wounds. Stumbling onto your feet, you catch sight of something unnatural.
A small piece of metal protrudes from the side of your thigh, embedded into the flesh. Staring at the shrapnel, you’re reminded that your world doesn’t just belong to you anymore. Even if the Sky People were to disappear and return back to their planet, the scientists would remain here. Their clunky gear and massive structures would continue to reside amongst the nature of Pandora.
Something about that notion makes your heart sink.
You lightly touch the silvery metal, trying to gauge how deep the foreign object must be. It felt stiff and unwilling to relent to your touch, confirming that it was not something you could brush off. Taking a step forward, a broad, aching pain festers throughout your leg. It hurt less if you put less pressure on the limb, however, that would be hard to do on your journey back to the High Camp.
Picking up your bow from the ground, arrows broken and scattered around, you slowly mount your ikran, muttering expletives to yourself at the pain that dwelled throughout your entire body.
Neteyam was surely going to kill you.
Upon your arrival, after an arduous flight back home, you slowly slid off your companion onto the uneven rock. Blood oozed out from around the metal, the object having dug deeper into the surface the more you moved. With one hand clutching your rib and another trying to steady the object, you hoped to stumble into a healing area before you were noticed by a Sully.
Turns out, you’re not as stealthy as you thought.
“She’s back! She’s back!” a high-pitched cheer sounded, a small girl bouncing towards you. Tuk’s big grin slowly faded into a look of concern and worry as she sized up your injuries. “Mom! Kiri! She’s hurt!”
The younger girl prances over to you, lifting your arms and examining your body from front to back. You feel the small girl brush against your tail, which was agitatedly flicking back and forth.
With a sigh of your name, you see Tuk’s mother and elder sister approach you, war paint still decorating Neytiri’s face in vibrant greens and yellows. She gasps upon spotting the dirt, blood, and bruising that has blossomed across your skin, tucking a stray hair behind your ear as her eyes fill with worry.
“We must get her to grandmother,” Kiri announces to her mother, clutching your upper arm as softly as she could without hurting you.
“There’s no need. I can do it myself,” you try to assure her, taking a fumbling limp forward.
“There is a piece of metal sticking out of your leg.”
You glance down, almost as if you hadn’t noticed it at all before. It was a futile attempt, especially as you used your fingers to brace the object, preventing it from moving too much. “There is?”
“Damn, bro!” Lo’ak exclaims, waltzing up beside you and trying his best to not laugh at your given failure. “Looks like someone got their ass handed to them by some Sky People,”
Hissing at him, you weakly push at his chest to show him that you weren’t interested in his jokes right now.
“Lo’ak!” his mother scolds, hitting him upside the head.
“What?! What I’d do?!”
Then, the two people you desperately wanted to avoid came into view: Neteyam and his father. Jake had a stern, militant look on his face—a facade that seemed to follow him everywhere he went. Neteyam’s face was set into a deep frown, a look that was a delicate cross between his mother’s and father’s disappointed faces.
“Well, would you look at the time? Looks like I better start tending to-” you attempt to walk away, only to be kept in place by Neytiri’s firm hand on your shoulder. It’s not like you’d be able to escape them as quickly or swiftly as you would typically be able to. You–apparently–had a piece of metal sticking out of your leg.
“What the hell were you thinking?!” Jake scolds still dressed head to toe in his fusion of Omaticaya and Sky military gear. “Disobeying direct orders? That isn’t something I expected from you.”
Casting your eyes downwards, you hope your flat ears and limp tail would get you out of this scolding quicker than it would’ve if he was scolding Neteyam or Lo’ak. Typically, avoiding his gaze would show that you felt regret—which, in this case, you didn’t really—and he’d let you move on. However, it’s hard to keep your eyes fixed on the ground when someone gets into your line of view.
Neteyam crouches down, face coming into view as if he’s trying to catch your fake performance. Instead, he places two hands, worn and calloused from all of the years of fighting and defending his people, onto your cheeks. He tilts your face upwards so he can view you from his natural height, allowing him to view each scrape and bruise in proper lighting. His lips twitch into a grimace, thumbs grazing over a small cut that must be on your cheek because, although there’s a faint sting, there’s no leaking blood.
Now, everyone knew about you and Neteyam. It’s not like it was kept a secret. Wherever you went, he followed; whatever he was doing, you were right there beside him. In the years to come, you would become his mate and that was an unspoken decision between you and him. Well, there was also an unspoken rule between Neteyam and the rest of the boys his age to not even glance at you, or else he’d have their tails. However, no matter how much people smiled softly whenever you’d exchange fond glances or spare looks when you two ran off alone, it wasn’t like you publicly displayed much physical affection. Nonetheless in front of his parents.
He unloops your visor from behind your ears, handing it to his brother without his gaze leaving your face. As soon as his hands leave you, they return just as quickly. His fingers smooth over your face, confirming that you’re breathing and here in front of him—something he’s very grateful for. Your stupidity—not so much.
“You’re such a skxawng,” he chides, tilting your face towards his.
“Yeah, yeah whatever. It’s not like I’m the one who took down—not one—but two whole- ow!” you yelp, stumbling forward towards the young man.
Tuk looks at you guiltily, one finger outstretched as if she was prodding at something.
Kiri steps forward, pushing Tuktirey out of the way in order to re-examine your back.
“We should take her to grandmother,” she insists, “now.”
You roll your eyes, trying to continue with your act of not being nearly as injured as you appear, but the longer you stand, the more it becomes not true. As the adrenaline wears off, the soreness and incessant throbbing grow throughout your muscles and bones. Your rib and leg are still oozing blood, warm and tacky against your skin. Neteyam loops an arm around you, careful to avoid the blisters and welts that decorate various places on your back.
His free hand reaches for the hand that hangs limply over his shoulder, intertwining your fingers and giving them a light squeeze. “It’ll all be okay,”
“Yeah, I know. Just ‘cause I’m walking a bit funny doesn’t mean I’m dying,”
You could say that then, but you sure as hell can’t say that now.
If there was one thing about Mo’at, it was that she couldn’t care less if her remedies stung like a bitch as long as they cured you thoroughly. So now, as she smears a paste along your back—the sensation as bitter and frigid as the Northernmost part of any mountain—that bites at your skin, you kind of wish you were dead. Or at least knocked out.
This isn’t even the worst of it.
Once the stinging fades more into a relaxing cool, Mo’at instructs you to lean backward so she can assess your torso. The older woman crouches next to you, hands hovering over the wound as if Eywa was sending her a direct message on the best way to heal you. Neteyam sits on the other side of you, clutching your hand with a grip that seems more like it’s to reassure him than you, his other hand brushing your hair away from your face.
Neytiri stays close to her mother, observing or advising what she believes to be the next course of action—just as a tsakarem should do. Kiri stays by your feet, grinding and mashing up various plants and syrups that could be used to aid with disinfecting your wounds. Lo’ak and his father stay near the door, ready to leave if someone else should need assistance with anything to do with the war effort. However, as everyone stays well within their place, performing their necessary task, Tuk couldn’t seem to sit still.
“Is she going to need stitches?” Tuk asks, peering over her eldest brother.
Neteyam removes his hand from your hair, slightly readjusting the younger’s weight so she doesn’t put too much pressure on him, in turn, putting pressure on you.
The Tsahìk doesn’t look up from your wound, eyes brightening as if Eywa had finally delivered her guidance to the woman. “No, she will just need to rest. I would advise very minimal movement for at least seven days,” the woman says, being handed a bowl of yellowish sap.
“Seven days? But I need to be out there, it’s my duty to fight,” you plead, growing restless and inching upwards.
Neteyam pushes you back down, delicate but firm fingers pressing against your sternum. “Down,” he murmurs.
“It is not my fault you did not listen to orders,” the older woman retorts, using a brush-like leaf to observe the consistency of the paste before lowering it toward your injury.
“Yeah, well it’s not my fault that I just happened to save- oh, Great Mother! Holy sh-” you yelp upon Mo’at contact.
Neteyam presses a hand over your mouth, sending you a stern glare. “Not in front of the Tsahìk,” he hushes, palm warm against your lips.
You groan against his hand, face twisting and back arching in pain. Unlike the gel thinly spread across your back, there was no relief from this paste. Mo’at continued to slather it all across your skin, insisting that the more you move, the more it will hurt. You squeeze Neteyam’s hand, feeling the bones shift with how strong your grip is. If you’re hurting him, you can’t tell. The look of pain on his face seems to be linked to his feelings about your injuries, your pain. Always the doting lover.
Once Mo’at wraps the injury, using both Na’vi and human medical wraps, she places a palm over the injury, thanking the Great Mother. Then, she looks at your leg.
Your leg was held down by Kiri throughout the excursion, as she didn’t want the shrapnel to lodge itself deeper into the skin and muscle. At the base of your leg, a piece of twine is firmly wrapped around the skin to lightly restrict blood flow. The skin was not pinched, nor did you lose feeling in your leg as you would’ve if the twine was used as a makeshift tourniquet, however, your thigh still resisted against the band.
You haven’t cried yet, however, just with her eyes boring into your leg you feel as if you’re about to sob.
“Please don’t take it out. I don’t- I don’t want to have to do this anymore,” you begin to blubber, looking at Neteyam as you try to sit up.
“Shh, shh,” he placates, stroking your cheek. “It’s okay. I’m here, I promise I won’t let anyone hurt you.”
“I’ve been hurting this whole time,” you groan, “what the hell have you been-”
Then, the last two people you want to see walk into the room: Norm and Max.
“I grabbed them as soon as I heard,” says Spider, following close behind.
“No. No, no, no. Get the hell away from me,” you say, instantly shooting up and trying your best to scoot away, even as Kiri still holds down your leg.
Neteyam says your name so sweetly, so full of fondness that a chill is sent up your spine—a chill that isn’t caused by the cooling medicine or a shock of pain. “He’s here to help.”
“I don’t want him here,” you spit, speaking Na’vi to the boy sitting beside you.
“We have no choice,” he reasons, his voice dropping an octave. “They will be much quicker with their equipment than with ours. I promise that my grandmother will heal and treat you, but we need their help to make sure that there’s no extra damage that is beyond what the eye can see.”
You shake your head, refusing to listen to him and averting your gaze.
His lithe fingers reach for your chin, turning you back towards him. There he goes again; always making you feel like the blushing fool, especially in front of his family.
“I will not let them hurt you.”
What a fucking liar.
Taking a team of three women plus Norm to hold your leg down, Max begins to lower his tweezers toward the piece of metal. With the first tug, you begin screaming. The pressure and the resistance between Max’s tweezers and the artificial shard against your tender skin and muscle caused your free leg to kick, hands tightening at your sides and clinging onto Neteyam. The fact that your whole body was tense, each muscle spasming, probably didn’t help what was already a difficult procedure.
“Damn, she’s strong,” Norm comments, adding more pressure in an attempt to hold your leg down. “Spider, help us out.”
You continue to sob, reaching for Neteyam to claw at his shoulder. If you’re hurting him or breaking skin, he doesn’t tell you. Instead, he cradles you as you cry against his leg. Ripping your hand from his, you squeeze his leg, nose pressed against his thigh to hide your face. There’s no guarantee that half of the clan hasn’t heard you by now, nor that a few people have poked their heads in to see who the hell was screaming so damn loud. You were well known. There’s no way anybody wouldn’t recognize that it was you who was being surgically tortured. However, if you could save some dignity by hiding yourself against Neteyam, you would do just that.
“I’m never letting them near my body again,” you weep, gripping tight to the blue skin beneath you.
Neteyam rakes his fingers through your hair, hands petting any inch of skin that has brought you comfort over the years. He knows you like the back of his hands. Playing with your hair puts you to sleep, rubbing his thumb across your cheek makes you keen, following the slope of your nose makes you smile, and touching your ear makes you quiet. Using this knowledge, Neteyam’s hands roam to any expanse of skin that he can reach. He must look mad, with busy fingers and frantic eyes, but he can’t help himself. His chest hurts when he sees you like this, and if he needs to kill someone to make you feel better, he’d gladly do that.
“It’s almost out. We’re almost done,” he assures you in a soft tone, getting close to your ear.
Your ears, which have been laying flat and folding over periodically finally perk up and away from your skull—a sense of relief. It’s quick-lived before they fall back against your hair, but he sees it as a small win.
“Can you dress it for me?” you plea, voice breaking painfully.
Who is he to deny you?
“All done!” Max cheers, placing the flat piece of shrapnel into an emesis basin.
The clang of the metal against metal causes you to abruptly sit up. Neteyam’s hand is on your shoulder, but for the first time, it’s not to push you back down. He lets you take your time viewing the sizable gash in your leg, an injury that without a doubt needs extra aid. You whimper at the sight, not necessarily at the pain, but because you knew what this means: you would be under strict supervision at the battle scene. You couldn’t be trusted to be alone, especially as you were a great friend of the Sully’s and Neteyam’s prospective mate.
Falling back into Neteyam, the cries you let out are softer but still cause your body to shake. Neteyam rubs his cheek against yours when you hide your face in his neck, tears causing the blue skin to become slick and tacky. He readjusts your top which has moved around during all of your painful squirming, protecting your modesty. The beads land softly against your shoulder, arms holding you snuggly against him. He tucks your hair behind your ear, giving him a view of the ear that is decorated with various pieces of Omaticaya jewelry. An orange bead, delicately dangling from your lobe, was a gift from him.
“It makes me feel wiser during battle,” you told him once before sending an arrow straight through the eye of a fish that swam around in the pond.
He touches it lightly, reminding you that everything is alright.
“No! She’s going to need stitches!” Tuk whimpers, a frown deeply set on her face. Even through your crying, Neteyam catches the faintest hint of a smile.
Mo’at begins to drip water over the wound, clearing away any blood that may have leaked down your leg despite the twine restricting your blood flow.
It’s silent besides Max, Norm, and Jake’s mumbling outside of the tent as Mo’at preps a needle and thread. Kiri, Neytiri, and Spider have since released your leg, observing you and the Tsahìk. Just as Mo’at blesses the needle and thread, Neteyam speaks up.
“I’ll do it.”
Mo’at looks at her grandson, her gaze strong but understanding. The white bone needle stays pinched between her two fingers, amber eyes unwavering.
“Neteyam, let your grandmother-“
“I said I’ll do it.” he hushes, lip curling in order to hide a scowl.
His mother looks at her own, a non-verbal communication occurring between their stares. Eventually, Neytiri acquiesces, standing up and taking a step away from you.
Mo’at hands him the needle, placing a worn but beautiful hand on your leg.
“Return here tomorrow so I can check on the wound,” she orders. You nod, eyes still teary before the older woman stands with her daughter, ready to move on to the other warriors who need their assistance.
Once his mother and grandmother leave, Neteyam grows restless.
“Everyone out, please.”
Kiri scoffs at him, still seated by your feet. “You can‘t be serious,”
“Out! Get out!” he hisses, fangs bared at his sister and the human boy beside her. “You have done nothing!”
“I wouldn’t call holding down her leg for nothing. I’ll have bruises for the next week,” Spider dismisses, standing up with Lo’ak, who is already headed towards the exit.
“Out!” he shouts one final time, his siblings leaving as his tail flicks back and forth with irritation.
It isn’t until they’re gone, that Neteyam leaves your right side, scrambling and pouncing over you in order to come in contact with your left leg.
The tent is silent as he begins his work. The process doesn’t hurt much, a gentle prick or pinch here and there; you’re not sure whether it’s because your nerves are shot and can’t detect pain anymore or because Neteyam is good at his work. It could be both. Before you know it, the wound is closed and a row of sutures stares back at you in a familiar Na’vi sewing pattern. The skin is even, nothing too uncomfortable, and although there’s bruising, it appears to be that everything will be okay.
You reach out to touch the stitches with a shaky hand, only to be slapped away. “Uh uh, don’t touch,” he tuts, eyes focused and mouth slightly ajar in concentration.
He grabs under your knee, bending it at the joint in order to prop it up so he can place a bandage over the sutures.
“To protect them,” he informs you, wrapping the gauze around your thigh.
He’s very quiet throughout, a reaction you were not expecting. Neteyam has always been logical, methodical; he never steps out of line or does something rash unless it’s for the means of protecting those he loves. Always quick to action, he’s usually the first to help and the first to reprimand someone (usually Lo’ak) for their stupidity. That would be the typical reaction. However, now he looked almost forlorn.
Once he’s done, he fully stands for the first time since you entered the tent. He begins to rummage through his grandmother’s remedies that sit in wooden jars and crystal vials, concoctions she’s mastered after years and years of being the Tsahìk. After selecting a small wooden bowl filled with clear oil, he grabs another bowl of water and a rag and sits down in front of you. Dabbing the rag in the bowl of water, he lifts the dripping cloth toward your face.
“What are you doing?”
He looks at you, eyes narrowing briefly before they return to their normal, large position.
“Your face is filthy.”
He gently holds your chin, tilting it up towards him so he can begin wiping your face. His hold is steady but his eyes look nerved, almost as if he has too much on his mind to bear. His breathing matches yours, and he dodges your gaze although his entire being crowds your line of sight. There’s no way for him to avoid you, really.
“What’s wrong?” you ask as he dips the rag and wrings out all of the water, approaching your face yet again.
“Nothing is wrong,” he replies curtly, his ears twitching quickly before returning to their previous state—a telltale sign that he’s lying.
“Oh, so you’re just going to pretend like I know nothing about you now?” you try to joke, smile falling when you notice how he doesn’t reciprocate your humor. “Talk to me,” you urge, grabbing his wrist so he can’t try to distract you or himself by caring for your wounds.
He sighs, looking away before he slowly looks back at you. Holding your gaze, eyes squinting and lips pursing slightly. Neteyam looks at you like you’re supposed to understand him–and you do–but it’s as if he’s expecting you to know what’s bothering him. However, the problem is that you don’t. Once he comes to that realization, he sighs, still looking into your eyes.
“I’m upset with you.”
And there it is. Your tail swishes uneasily, something that doesn’t go unnoticed by Neteyam, but he can’t bring himself to quell his emotions for your sake. He almost lost you.
“Why are you upset with me?”
He shrugs, almost as if he’s embarrassed or too shy to explain his feelings. Being the eldest son and the next heir, Neteyam often felt as if he had to hide his own inhibitions or concerns in order to be a good son, a good brother, a good leader. When it was just the two of you, you would often have to do a little extra prying in order to get him to reveal what was truly occupying that pretty little head of his. Even once he admitted it, it was even harder to get him to elaborate.
“Just drop it. You should be healing,” he dismisses, trying to distract himself by wiping your face again.
Pushing his wrist away with your fingers, you take the cloth and throw it into the bowl of water. Holding his hands on your lap, his tail swishing timidly behind him, you make him look at you by following his gaze. “I can talk and heal. The two aren’t mutually exclusive,”
“I wish they were,” he mutters, a braid swinging in front of his face.
“Hey,” you tuck the strand behind his ear. He leans towards your touch, almost as if he craves it, no matter how much he wishes he didn’t. “This isn’t how this works. You need to talk to me.”
“You’ve already been in enough pain today. I don’t want to cause anymore,”
“Quit the bullshit. I’m better now. I’ll feel worse if you don’t tell me.”
“That’s not the way it works.”
“Um, yes, it is.”
“It’s not.”
“How would you know? I can already feel my leg hurting ten times more now that you won’t communicate with me.”
“You’re not in any more pain because of me,” he scoffs, trying to escape your grasp.
“Ow, my leg! My leg!” you feign a whimper. He cracks a small smile, your cheeks spreading as smoothly as the war paint that still dons his face.
Neteyam looks so beautiful when he smiles. It’s a special smile, reserved only for you; it drips of sticky honey, so sugary that sometimes you feel as if you could fall ill from its adoration. He’s soft as he looks at you, coy and all things delightful. The hands that once tried to flee your own, now reach for your wrists, petting the skin in a pattern that speaks a million languages at once. And yet, somehow, not one of those languages can truly resemble how much he loves you. He loves you a lot.
“Please,” you whisper, “tell me what’s wrong?”
He sighs, assenting to your pleas. With one final sweep over your face, he finally indulges you.
“I’m not happy that you took down those ships.”
“Well, duh,” you scoff, rolling your eyes playfully. “I know that, but I want to know why.”
“You weren’t careful.”
This causes a richer scoff to form at the back of your throat, a sound that makes his ears press against his braids. “I thought we agreed to take down the enemy at any and all costs?”
“I know, and we did—we did make that agreement. I just,” he groans, trying to find the right words. Neteyam never had the right words when it came to expressing himself. “I was scared.”
“Okay,” you reply softly, shuffling closer to him. “Why were you scared?”
“Why wouldn’t I be scared?” he answers, tone mimicking the same quiet tone you used. “You’re mine—my girl, and- and they almost took what’s mine away from me.”
“God, I just got so scared that something bad would happen to you. And when I saw you hurt, how badly you were in pain, and I couldn’t do anything about it I just…” his eyes are frantic, searching all across the hut for something—anything—to provide him an answer. His hands start to tremor in your hold. “I felt helpless and so stupid. I should’ve been tougher on you, or—I don’t know—had Lo’ak or even Kiri stay with you so you didn’t have to be alone. And it’s not that I don’t think you’re incapable or anything—” he excuses, causing you to smile lightly, “—but I don’t trust them. I don‘t trust them with you.”
Smile turning watery, you reach for his shoulder, soon deciding to hold his face instead. He leans into your palm yet again, seeking the warmth that can only emanate from your hands alone. It’s the only warmth that can rid him of any chill.
Neteyam kisses your palm, soon rolling your hand over in his, placing his lips on each knuckle as if it provides him comfort. And it does. It provides him more comfort than he could care to admit. Placing your head in the crook where his neck and shoulder meet, you place a kiss on his collarbone, lowering your lips to place another on his pec, right above his heart. The young man draws in a deep breath, holding you close to him, savoring each second, each touch. Skin against skin; heart against heart.
“I’m sorry for worrying you,” you apologize, your soft lips grazing his blue skin. He loves the feeling. “I just wanted to protect our people.”
“I know, I know,” he murmurs against your forehead, a light kiss placed there. “I’m sorry for yelling.”
“It’s okay. You didn’t even yell,” you forgive, cheeks pillowing against his chest. When you lift yourself away from him, he tilts his head in confusion at your smirk. “Also, we both know Kiri would be awful on the battlefield.”
He chuckles, brushing his nose against yours. “True. She can’t even shoot an arrow in a straight line.”
“Exactly! I don’t know what you were thinking when you said that. Lo’ak? Sure, whatever. But Kiri?”
“I know, I know,” he agrees, voice growing softer as if his quietness will preserve this moment between you.
His eyes become velvet—smooth and warm—the longer he looks at you and it instantly makes you melt. His lips look saccharine, a buttery spread of a light smile decorating his face which is just the absolute cherry on top. If Eywa hadn’t taken you during battle, she sure as hell was going to take you now with how crazy Neteyam makes your heartbeat.
He tucks your hair behind your ear, his smile growing more and more with each expanse of skin he navigates. Dancing his fingertips over your jaw and across your cheekbones, he eventually cups your cheek and you just watch. If you breathe too hard, if you shift your weight, this moment could crumble. He’s looked at you like this many times before but it’s usually in the dark, under the bioluminescent blue and purple lights of the forest, where all you can see are the shadows of his face and the warmth of his tongue and the breeze of his breath. Now, you can see everything in pure, golden hues. The way his mouth relaxes, the way his eyes absorb all they can with each quick glance, the way the corner of his mouth tugs upwards unconsciously. You love it.
“May I kiss you?” he asks quietly, thumb swiping along a stripe on your cheek.
“Why do you ask now? You’ve done it many times before,” you wonder, eyes transfixed on the way his own mouth moves with each word he’s about to form.
He chuckles, a sweet, melodic sound, “Just wanted to make sure you’re still down even when the sun is out.”
This earns a loud laugh from you, a laugh that makes Neteyam’s heart squeeze and his lower stomach burn. He loves you. One day, he’ll say it.
Once your giggles have fizzled into a content sigh, you bite your lip lightly before you release it and it returns to its normal place. Neteyam follows the movement.
“I’m always down if it’s you.”
“Yeah?” he smiles, breathy and lips plush.
“Yeah.”
With that, he seals the deal. His kiss is soft, and you don’t miss the way his eyes dip to your mouth right before the initial contact. It makes you feel hot all over. He’s gentle—he always is at first—and he’s so, so kind. He pulls away briefly, returning not long after as if he needs to be connected to you or else he would suffer. In a way, he would.
Neteyam is sweet. He still tastes like the fruit you shared before the raid and also a little bit like blood—whether it’s from him or you, you don’t care; you’ll devour it desperately just like you want him to devour you. He traces that stripe on your cheek again, his new best friend, and follows it down the nape of your neck. His other hand trails up from the small of your back to the divot in between your shoulder blades. He uses his hand to pull you closer, seeking any contact from you that he can get.
Your hands are a barrier, shielding your chest from his, and in a way, it upsets you but also pleases you. Nobody knows what would happen if you could feel his chest pressed against yours at this moment—not even you know. Your hands glide across his chest, lighting scraping and molding against the fine muscle that hides under his smooth skin. When a lithe finger accidentally catches against a nipple, his mouth drops open pliantly, his tongue searching for yours.
“‘S scared they took my girl away from me,” he murmurs against your lips, his own following after yours after each word.
“Never,” you promise, kissing him firmly, one hand gripping his shoulder to ground yourself. All of this kissing was beginning to make you feel as if you could float away. “I’m yours. They could never take me or have me. You know that,”
“Mhm,” he hums, voice lilting towards the end as he presses his mouth to yours. It makes your back arch forward, seeking more of his skin, his touch.
His hands are growing desperate now. Neteyam knows he has to be gentle, avoiding the damaged skin on your back and remaining weary of the injuries on your rib and leg, but he so badly just wants to pull you close to him and never let go. He wants to hold you, to feel you, to be with you in every single way he can imagine so passionately. But he can’t. He will have to wait for another time.
You, on the other hand, may roam freely. Your hands travel down his chest, exploring the taught skin of his stomach. It seems he subconsciously flexes underneath your touch, something that is rather enticing. Reaching the plusher skin of his lower stomach, although there still isn’t much give, you trace the muscle gingerly, bordering right above the hem of his loincloth. The delicate touch of your fingers causes him to lightly moan into your mouth, a sound you gladly drink down just to feel its warmth in your stomach.
Neteyam pulls away suddenly, a loss you’re greatly upset about until he relocates his lips under your ear, traveling down your neck. He hums against the skin, tongue swiping against it as if he’s trying to taste as much of you as he can, as much as he’s allowed.
“You can’t touch me like that,” he says, using a hand to bring both of yours back toward his chest. You cradle his head instead, tracing a finger along his ear. It twitches.
“Why not?” you question, voice airy. Neteyam nearly preens at the sound, tail wild. “You seem to like it.”
“I do like it,” he insists, “I love it, even.”
“Then why can’t I touch you there?”
He places a wet, fervent kiss against the crook of your neck. Your breath hitches in your throat, a moan threatening to escape past your lips.
“Because,” another kiss, “You are not promised to me yet.”
“I just told you that I’m yours,” you reminded him.
“Yes,” he nods, trailing his kisses back toward your jaw. “However, you’re still not mine.”
Oh.
“I could be yours. All you have to do is ask,” you say as if it’s not something he already knows. You hold his head in place, halting his journey upwards so you can whisper in his ear: “Ask me, Neteyam.”
His tail swishes excitedly, something that makes you smile. Great Mother, you could eat him up.
“No,” he responds, pulling away and facing you head-on. He has a lovesick smile on his face, a grin that nobody could wipe off as long as you’re around. “I want to do it right.”
“Yeah?” you counter. “How would you do it?”
“Well,” he hums, kissing your lips. “First, I’d get all of your favorite foods. All of those fruits you like, season everything all nice,” he begins to slowly kiss your cheeks, “and get it all ready just for you to eat.”
“What else?”
“Then,” his kisses travel towards your ear, “Once you’re full and comfortable, we’ll go for a walk.” He bites your ear lobe and you press yourself against him. “We’ll go to our favorite spots: we’ll look at those flowers you like, go to the river, maybe swim a little. I like the way your hair looks while wet, you look so pretty,” he sighs. “You listening?”
“Yes,” you nod. “Go on.”
“Then I’d bring you to our sacred tree, just so Eywa can see us and I can see you under her light. I want to see you when I ask you. I want to see you if you smile or cry or decide that I’m not the one, I don’t care, I just want to see you,” he smiles, no longer kissing you but nudging your nose with his.
“And if you say yes—Great Mother, I hope you say yes—I promise, I’ll treat you so well. I’ll hold you the way you ask to be held, kiss you in all of the places I already know you love to be kissed, and learn all of the new places I can’t reach yet too. I want to feel you, and see the way you react. I want you to feel me, too. I want you to see me, and I want to see you,” he whispers, voicing each wish.
You nod, slowly and then desperately. “I want to see you, too,” you promise. He smiles that big, toothy smile. “Tell me when you’ll ask me? I can’t wait for much longer. I need you.”
His eyelids grow heavy, skin heating underneath your palm. “I need you, too,” he gasps, leaning forward to kiss you again. “It’ll be soon, just want you to heal for now.”
“Yeah?” you smile. “Soon?”
“Yeah,” he smiles. “Soon.”

C’mon bro, strong heart. No fear. Ride.
Strong heart. No fear. Ride.
Strong heart. No fear. Ri-
“Try not to get yourself killed this time, okay skxawng?”
Aonung’s grating voice carries over the cacophonous sound of waves crashing against one another, cutting through Lo’ak’s train of repetitive self-affirmations. Himself and the son of the Olo’eyktan had become close friends since they reached an understanding in the most unlikely of ways, after Ao’nung had left him for dead outside of the reef five years ago.
In spite of this, they had never quite managed to shake off the ‘love to hate them’ aspect of their relationship – directed insults now only meant to tease rather than injure and once-venomous rivalry now harmless. In this moment, however, Lo’ak fights the urge to let his intrusive thoughts win, images of wringing Ao’nung's neck coming to mind. At last, he had been approved to begin his tsurak training and he refused to allow fish lips to ruin it for him.
Refocusing on the task at hand, Lo’ak inhales deeply and resumes repeating his mantra mentally. His dad had advised him that a good pep talk was the key to having the fortified mindset of a Marine. Oorah. Desperate to tame a tsurak and get one step closer to completing his iknimaya, for once in his life, Lo’ak was willing to listen.
He merely scoffs at Ao’nung’s taunting words and inhales deeply, preparing to mount the tsurak. Lo’ak clears his mind, rolls his shoulders. You got this. He ignores when her extended tail whips the water’s surface, aggravated at being pinioned by Ao’nung and a few other Metkayina men. Ignores her beady eyes following him closely as he nears her jerking body, it is as if she is daring him to come any closer – you really want to risk riding me?
Gathering all the courage he is expected to possess as son of the mighty Toruk Makto, Lo’ak swiftly connects his kuru to that of the tsurak’s before swinging a long leg over the thick of her body and shuffling up to seat himself properly, hands gripping the attached harness.
Amber eyes widen as he feels the rush of being in control of such a powerful creature. Strong jaws snap dangerously at the men that still hold her in their secure grip, overwhelmed by the presence of an unfamiliar rider in her mind. Just about managing to muster enough mental force to overcome her resistance, Lo’ak’s mouth opens to release a loud ‘Forward!’
Thinking in tandem with her rider, the tsurak involuntarily follows his command and breaks free from her restrictors. Bounding across the surface of the water, Lo’ak barely has a moment to rejoice in his minor victory before he is dragged underwater forcefully, the tsurak’s capable form thrashing wildly beneath his thighs.
Back on the shore, Ao’nung smirks to himself as he watches Lo’ak’s gangly legs flail in the air as they follow the rest of his body under the water. He must have forgotten to tell him that Niie was particularly picky with who she let ride her and therefore required gentle coaxing before any attempt to even climb her, nevermind ride. Oops.
Tumblr media
Niie’s decorated wings tuck into her sides as she penetrates the water’s surface, sleek torpedo shape nimbly navigating the waters that she knows so well. Intelligent creature that she is, she allows Lo’ak a moment of reprieve, slowing down slightly to lull him into a false sense of security.
Unbeknownst to him, her mission to shake him off is not abandoned, only paused temporarily. He allows himself to enjoy the high of speeding through the water with such velocity, adrenaline rushing through his veins. As Niie emerges to the surface to allow him to breathe again, wings unfurling to their full span, he pumps his arm in the air and lets out a triumphant "Hell yeah!"
Gaining confidence in his abilities, he shifts into a crouch atop Niie’s back as she glides through the air, planting his feet in what he thinks to be a secure stance. I can’t wait to see the look on Ao’nung’s stupid face, he thinks to himself smugly, picturing his friend’s disbelieving stare.
Ever since passing his own iknimaya the previous year, the Metkayina boy had become utterly insufferable. Well, more than he usually was. Hearing his thoughts, Niie decides this is the perfect time to humble him and regain her freedom.
Quicker than he can say ‘Great Mother help me’, Niie plunges back into the depths of water, using all her might to wriggle and writhe under his grip that had begun to become lax as he succumbed to his distractions. Pure shock courses through his body, causing him to open his mouth and gulp down one mouthful of water too many, tail whipping violently in the surrounding water.
It soon becomes all too much for him as he feels the movements mess with his equilibrium and trigger a dizziness that causes him to lose his hold on the harness entirely. Silly boy, Niie thinks to herself as she dashes away. This ain’t my first rodeo.
Tumblr media
Lungs burning from overexertion, Lo’ak swims upwards and takes an indulgent breath of fresh air. Miffed by recent events, he treads water and decides to stay out at sea, wishing to allow as much time as possible to pass before he does the lengthy swim of shame back to the village. As he languishes in his feelings, his eyes wander across the open water, thinking of ways to pass the time.
He spots an unmistakable flash of blue in the corner of his eye, squinting as he tries to decipher what exactly he is looking at. Casually, he eases forward and manages to make out two blue feet, toes pointed daintily towards the sky before they are swallowed by the waves.
Intrigued, he fills his lungs up to their full capacity before ducking under the water again, feet kicking rapidly to aid him in his pursuit of his new curiosity. His interest is peaked again when he takes in your figure, equally as close to him as you are far. Outstretched arms scoop copious amounts of water, your streamlined tail helping to propel you further with each stroke.
When you seem to be satisfied with your spot in the water, you come to a halt and let your limbs float freely in the water. Eager to find out what a young Metkayina like you is doing so far out from the village by herself, Lo’ak also stops a little ways away from you. He chooses not to reveal his presence, for now. Saves him the embarrassing explanation of what he’s doing here, he figures.
Nothing could have prepared him for the spectacle he observes in front of him. The arms at your side begin to lift slowly as your head tips back into the space behind you, the rest of your body following suit in what looks to be an underwater backflip of sorts. The most graceful backflip he’s ever seen.
Hydrobatics so graceful it would put an ilu to shame, he watches you perform a myriad of wonders, body following the intricate steps to a piece of choreography only you and the waters around you are privy to.
When the rays of light from above the surface filter through the water and touch your body at just the right angle, his reaction is near enough comical. For a moment, he believes he is bearing witness to a divine vision from Eywa. You must be an apparition, a trick of the eyes.
He fists his hands, brings them up to his face and rubs his eyes twice. Sure enough, you are still there. When he opens his eyes again and sees your lithe form in motion, he blinks twice in disbelief but wills his eyes to stay open so that he can take in as much of your ethereal beauty as possible.
And take it in he does. Greedy eyes devour the sight of you, noticing more details the longer he looks. The blue and lilac strands of your macrame top remind him of the elaborate vein pattern of the diaphanous txampaysye, renowned for its natural elegance in the waters. But while those magnificent creatures helped Na’vi to breathe underwater, he felt that you left him breathless.
He thinks of the tawtute romcom movies from the science base he would force Neteyam and Tuk to watch with him back when they were in the rainforest. They were his guilty pleasure and no matter how much he begged her to, Kiri absolutely refused to watch them; she said Grace had expressly mentioned in one of her many video logs that they lacked real humour and were painfully unrealistic.
But as you sense that you are no longer alone, you turn around. Eyes of liquid gold meet their aquamarine match and just like that, he is smitten. I knew love at first sight existed outside of the movies, he thinks to himself.
He’d heard the story of how his sa’nok wanted to kill his sempul the first time they met so many times, he’d begun to think that was the norm. But if Lo’ak was going to do anything, it’s go against the norm and prove everyone wrong.
Enraptured by the very essence of your being, he forgets himself and his surroundings. Moved by the newfound joy that comes with finally finding the one you were destined to be with, he opens his mouth and starts laughing. For the hundredth time that day, he is shocked when water starts to fill it, precious air escaping his lungs.
His body is exhausted from multiple counts of shock in too little time, and so he begins to drown. Limbs akimbo, panicked eyes meet yours and as you make your way towards him with haste, seeing your divinity in such close proximity causes him to descend further into the throes of a fit. Kind eyes observe his state of distress with worry and as he gazes into them deeply, he knows he’s a goner in more ways than one.

Well damn... (Adults) 2/2
Male reader is left with no choice but to use a female avatar, not that he minds using it on the first place, to save their best friend's life.
Characters: Tonowari, Ronal, Quaritch
Pronouns: They/Them
Warnings: Cursing, injury, mentions of blood, simps, everyone is bi >:3, gender is a social construct, idk a thing about injuries or fighting, ooc
This is obviously an au, so be warned
Tonowari and Ronal are siblings
Quaritch is going through character development
Why? Because, I said so
(None of the ff images/gifs are mine)
Tumblr media
Tonowari
This will be a hard and gruesome battle against the sky people. It is war, the moment they attacked their spirit brothers and sister. This is a serious period for the clan and he was focused on avenging those they have lost. But he never expected to be enamored by one of them, realizing this person is “the backup” the Toruk Makto mentioned.
The moment you appeared, on the back of an ikran he is whipped.
“I see you” You gestured towards him and his sister Ronal. You were not surprised by Ronal's wariness with you, you are used to the treatment and stares. A light smile graced your lips, raising both of your hands up just like what the Sullys did when they first arrived.
“Y/N brother, I'm so glad to see you”  Jake went to your side, and both of your hands meet each other which resulted in a clap.
“You cannot get rid of me, that easily Sully” Your lips widened, showing off your fangs as you threw a grin.
Brother? You are clearly a female though? The poor man was confused but he chose to formally greet you, throwing the question to the back of his mind. He made eye contact with you, as you returned your attention to them.
“Greetings, I am Y/N L/N, I understand that this is no time and place for warming up to each other...” You held your head up high, never looking away from him as “But I would like to thank you for taking in my brother and his family, I owe you one”
Tonowari's brain just stopped functioning correctly when he heard your voice, so he was not able to process your words and just nodded dumbly (in Ronal's perspective).
“It is a pleasure that you will aid us in this battle”
“The pleasure is all mine, to be able to fight along with the mighty Olo'eyktan and people of the Metkayina” Ronal noticed how the tail of her brother kept swishing around in delight, as he listens to your words. She rolled her eyes at this, attempting to break you both apart before Tonowari does something stupid.
“We have no time for this, we must prepare now” She gestured for you to follow her, and you nodded at the Olo'eyktan before catching up to Ronal. Jake also nodded to Tonowari,
“We shall discuss strategies in a while, yes?” His body turned to face Jake but his eyes were kept on your back as you walked away, “Of course”
Jake noticed how his full attention was not on the conversation but he suspected it might be because of the stress. “Do not think too deeply about this matter, we will be able to have a higher chance of winning with my brother here”
There it is again with you being called brother, is this some sort of nickname? He did not want to ask unless he is certain that this is a comfortable topic to be asked with you in person.
“The tulkuns have been warned by the people, now we will reassess the situation to prevent anyone from losing” Tonowari regained his ability to think clearly again, taking this situation seriously.
══════⊹⊱❖⊰⊹══════
Tonowari was not able to have another glimpse of you until the battle horn was blown.
It was time, all the warriors gathered with their skimwings. That is when he saw you on your ikran, you had no time to bond with any of the creatures in the reef so you had to make do with what you had.
Your eyes were focused on the ships ahead, void of any emotions that were present when you first arrived. Your mouth was moving but he was not sure  what you were saying as you pressed something on your neck.
You were wearing your visor, a chest plate out of bones with sky blue paint on your face. In your hand was a bunch of weapons.  You also had a gun at bay, but it did not worry him.
What worried him was you and the people's safety.
The horn sounded again and you were immediately flying through the sky. The wind did not bother you a bit, as you heard from Jake that your nieces and nephews were missing in action. This ignited something in you, nobody messes with your family, not while you are still breathing.
Explosions and gunshots resounded as you threw grenades at the incoming fleets, you easily took down 3 ships in a short moment as you evaded their guns. Skillfully navigating through the air as your one-man army terrorizes the invaders.
You cursed as you did not see any sign of your loved ones, pressing the communicator on your neck to give Jake an update.
“Jake, the kids are not here, they must be on that ship at 3 o’clock”
“Roger that, once you’re done there, proceed to that ship” Jake was very worried, you can hear it in his voice as he tries to steel himself.
“I’ll be there in a heartbeat, cross my heart”
You shot down a few more boats as the army of the Metaykina arrived to see the damage you caused, it was messy to describe it nicely. Tonowari watched as you shot someone with an arrow, making them fall of the ship.
The rest of the warriors marveled at the sight, some of them fell in love with your bravery and skill. You noticed that they stopped for a while making you raise an eyebrow.
“Well, they are all yours brothers and sisters” Your voice woke them up from their thoughts, and charged at the ships.
Tonowari used his spear to eliminate the survivors who managed to escape from the flaming ships that are sinking. He noticed how someone was aiming for you and immediately impaled the man from fury, how dare he try to hurt you.
He turned back to you, your face wore a smirk while looking back at him. This made him gulp as Ao’nung looked at his uncle in bewilderment. Oh, this is great material, wait till Tsireya hears about this-
══════⊹⊱❖⊰⊹══════
You flew towards the ship where the kids were being kept, thankfully you were able to shoot down the enemies before they shot at the boys.
“Uncle Y/N!”
Neteyam called out to you with a relieved smile, they knew that you were strong and you will protect them.
“Thank Eywa, you skxawngs are alive”
You informed Jake that you found the three boys and girl are safe. The five of you went to the shore, once you got off your ikran you pulled them into a hug.
After this heartfelt moment, you hit them all at the back of their heads, except the Metaykina girl.
“Seriously, you leave your parents’ sight for a few minutes and you almost got yourself killed! What were you all thinking!?”
You proceeded to scold them for five minutes while the girl which you now know as Tsireya watched. They feel ashamed of what they did, but they also know that you just care about them and what they did could have easily killed anyone.
Thankfully everyone was safe and no one died. Jake and Neytiri proceeded to do the same thing as you, hug the and scold them enough to never forget.
Neytiri gasped when she saw your leg, “Y/N your leg! Let us treat it immediately”
“Oh shit, uncle Y/N” The kids started to fuss over you, which made you confused.
“Huh?” You look down to see blood soaking the sand underneath you then you felt the pain. “Yeah, maybe I should not have looked-”
Suddenly your feet were not touching the ground and you were met with a teal blue chest. Ocean eyes were staring into your golden ones, masked with worry.
“Olo'eyktan, what a surprise! But you need not carry me, I can walk by myself”
“No, you are injured, you must not take this situation lightly” The Sullys and Tsireya watched this interaction, they all had wide eyes while Lo’ak almost laughed at how grave Tonawari’s expression is. Jake is trying to not laugh out loud at your bewildered expression, he knows that your pride is at stake”
“This is not the first time I was shot nor a helpless girl, so please calm down”
“Absolutely not, this is not a request but an order as the Olo’eyktan”
“But I am not part of this-”
“No buts”
Oh, this will be a great show, they thought. They wondered how he will react once he finds out that you are actually a man.
(I will probably continue this story along with Tsu’tey’s? Should I? AYO)
Tumblr media
Ronal
She despises your kind with all her heart but she also tries to treat you in a neutral manner with the urging of her brother and niece. She should find you annoying but she is aware of how you are trying your best to not be seen by her, this is how the walls around her heart crumble little by little. She does not know how an avatar works so imagine her reaction to finding out that you have been severely injured.
Ronal is a smart and badass woman, that's your first impression of her and you respect her attitude. In fact, you welcomed it with open arms. With this fact and attitude, she was deeply annoyed with you. A demon, you were always called, yet you remain unbothered with what surrounds you.
Despite your kind being small and fragile, they have caused so much irreparable damage to Pandora. A stain that must be removed at all costs.
You can easily be trampled on by their kind yet the half-bloods insist on sticking by your side. It must be because of your dirty blood inside them, which makes them protective over you.
As a sky person, you have always believed that you should not be with the Sullys even though you are Jake’s best friend. But they see you as family, heck even Neytiri cares for you! You know that you are not worthy of such compassion after what your kind has done.
Everyone begs to differ with your belief, they know that you are different from the ones that wreak havoc. So you put your utmost effort into fixing and improving the state of Pandora to correct the wrongdoings of what the others have done.
When the Sullys had to leave the clan for their safety, they offered to bring you with them and you immediately tried to shake your head. “I am not certain that they will welcome someone like me, my avatar has not even healed since the unexpected raid”
“It does not matter, you are family to us, if they do not accept you then we will look for another clan” Jake and Neytiri placed their hand in your shoulder. It was already a big deal that they were leaving a place full of memories, yet they could not bear to make you separate from them.
══════⊹⊱❖⊰⊹══════
So that is how you arrived at this point. When Kiri almost drowned near the spirit tree, you were just as panicked as her parents and they called for Norm and the others. You know that the Tsahik will not like this, she will be furious at the sight of the machines being brought to the marui.
You were right with your theory, regrettably enough. She was furious at the sight of all these unknown objects placed around and attached to Kiri. Ronal flipped out, wearing a more stressed expression than what you usually see.
You were worried that she is having too many things on her plate and it is affecting her health, you prefer not seeing her get worked up. The reason why? It is unknown to you but it may be related to how similar she is to your little sister.
They both have their own ways to deal with things and the strong personality is nostalgic to you. But for some reason she shows hostility against you the most, she did not acknowledge Norm or the others even if they are unfamiliar.
When nothing was happening to your niece as she was still unconscious, Neytiri also burst out. She yelled at almost everyone to take the machines away as she pleaded to Ronal, for her daughter.
“Take those vile things away, I do not want to see any sky people or their crafts in front of me” Ronal seethed, you were scared but thankful that she will heal Kiri.
“Let us get these things out of here”
You made it your responsibility to speed up the process of taking all the machines back to the ship.
You decided to leave her sight so that she will not have other problems to deal with, a Tsahik is already a big enough responsibility. As you thought about her hardships, you decided to make some of her favorite snacks.
You have a very understanding personality, which is why almost everybody has no problem with sharing their problems with you. It is almost like an unconscious routine of yours, you will be observing a person that piques your interest and do small actions to lighten their responsibilities. It is not the first time you have done such a thing for Ronal.
“She must be busy at this time, I shall give her some snacks”
In fact, she knew that you are the one who leaves meals in the front of her marui when she is having a busy day. Without you knowing, she observes you as well, to make sure that you are no threat to her people. Every day, since you cannot join the others for the lessons, the reason is obvious.
You aid the rest of the Metaykina clan through sharing your knowledge and helping with the physical work. In the beginning, they are all wary of you and avoided you at all costs. Now, they are beginning to warm up to you because of your deeds.
Even Tonowari gives you invites to join them in a variety of activities, whether it be hunting or other things. But you would always excuse yourself, telling them that you will just slow them down and take away the fun while wearing that stupid smile of yours.
“Y/N I have heard stories from Jake Sully about your ingenious works, it would be an educational experience if you could join us in our hunt” “It is an honor of mine to be invited, but regretfully we might have to reschedule on another time” You made eye contact with her for a few seconds before returning your attention to her brother.
“My physique and skills cannot possibly be able to amount even 1/10th of your strength” You held your small hand to your chest in mock defeat.
When she found out that you actually spend time with her brother when she is not present, she felt annoyed calling you a coward in her head. Were you really that scared of her or did you just dislike her?
Ronal knows that it is none of the two, but she cannot help but think that way. Both of you would have never spoken to each other unless you passed by one another, though it is only you that greets her as she just looks at you.
══════⊹⊱❖⊰⊹══════
Those small actions of yours, she started to look forward to them. Tonowari even teased her about how she is having special treatment so that she can accept you. But she knows your personality despite not being close, so she smacked Tonowari's arm in annoyance.
“Good morning Tonowari and Tsahik!” You chirped
You treat everyone the same way.
 ══════⊹⊱❖⊰⊹══════
You were bleeding profusely, as your body gets washed up on the shore, Ronal's spirit sister was the one who brought you there and she felt dread creep in her stomach. She wanted to come near you but the sight of the Sullys immediately hovering around you made her freeze on her feet.
The people gathered around you so she went to her spirit sister and asked what happened.
“Ugh the RDA... They're here” She heard you choke out, you are in pain yet you still gave them a calming smile. Your arm is clutched around your injured leg as you tried to even out your breathing.
Her spirit sister told her all the events that took place, how she was almost shot by a ship but you took the bullet for her.
You were at the ocean because Lo'ak invited you to meet Payakan and so happened to also see what happened. She was thankful for what you have done but this meant war...
She watched as you were brought somewhere, Jake Sully told them to warn the others before any of their spirit sisters and brothers get hurt. Since her sister is already safe and sound, she decided to look for you before she heads out for the fight.
On the other side, you are currently surviving off painkillers as you trudged out of the marui while being scolded by Kiri.
“I have to help them my Kiri, I know how those demons work” You placed your hand on her head to ease her worries, “I mean I am a demon myself so I can handle myself”
When Ronal heard what you said, she felt some guilt for how you used humor to downplay the insults. But before she can get near you, a metal compartment was pulled out by the familiar dream walkers from before.
 ══════⊹⊱❖⊰⊹══════
She was you again during the battle, but you looked different. Your form is similar to the Omatikaya clan but instead of a male, your form is a female. She did not even have the chance to fully admire your features for the first time, since you both barely faced each other properly, because you have been shot again.
This time she did not show her usual attitude of indifference and scorn, but genuinely cared for you.
“Quickly, bring Y/N to the marui!”
Your avatar is bleeding quickly and you are already pale from the blood loss. Your eyes weakly looked at her teary ones, her expression hurt you. Ronal was too busy trying to calm herself down that she only noticed that you were looking at her when she felt your hand shakily wipe her tears away.
“Do not be sad, I will be fine”
“You should swear, I hate liars”
“I swear, Ronal, I will be fine”
This is the first time she heard her name come from your mouth and it brought her a sweet feeling, she sniffled as you finally arrived at her marui.
Needless to say, you were really fine. When you passed out in your avatar form, you came back in your human form with that same stupid smile. And Ronal wanted to be pissed at the fact she cried for you but love overpowered her as she finally accepted how she sees you.

Quaritch
He is a new man and he is going through the journey of accepting his new body and new life. But there will always be his past trying to get him. At least you are there though, the co-parent of his human son and his closest acquaintance... Oh, Eywa please help him keep his thing down before you notice. And why does his boy keep staring at him with that smug look?
The man has done a lot of evil things, everyone knows that which is why despite losing his memories, most of the Omaticaya clan avoids him like a disease.
“He is one of those who destroyed the Hometree...”
“Stay away from him at all costs, you do not know when you will be endangered...”
But not you, not Jake, not the kids, Neytiri is still wary but there has been some progress. All of you have an understanding that this takes time, not everyone has healed from the past.
For some reason, Quaritch seems to stick around you most of the time. But you guessed that it might be because you are human, which seems less of a threat than the Navis.
You and Quaritch do not speak to each other much if the teasing is not counted. You are busy with whatever you need to do while the man just sticks by your side whenever he finishes his lessons.
“Spider was right, you do speak as a 3-year-old” You commented at his Navi, trying not to laugh but your shoulders were betraying you.
He looked at you, with an offended expression. Trying to look angry as he towered over you.
“I can literally throw you with ease, mister”
The man may never admit it but he had some fragments of human Quaritch about you, half of the time is how much he wants to kill you and the rest is about how he wishes you do not get yourself killed. Those are very conflicting feelings that confuse him, he seems to be developing something.
“Whatever you say, old man”
Seeing you take care of Spider, the child of human him makes him imagine something with you. It will only be a flash though before it gets thrown to the back of his head.
It took a lot of convincing... And bribes... And some threatening before the people finally started warming up to his presence.
“People say, find good people and leave the bad ones...
But I say, find the good in people and ignore the bad in them...
Because no one is perfect”
That is what you always like to say.
Which makes him wonder how you are so positive after all the crazy things that happened.
Things were finally looking up for Quaritch and you are proud of what he has achieved.  He is now really one of the people, a new life has been given to him.
Until the RDA came back for revenge. They were hunting down him and Jake, it was a mess all over again. Spider was almost taken and if it was not for your appearance near the site.
They also knew about you, as Grace's prodigy who will be in charge of the project after her. So you had to come with them for the safety of the clan.
══════⊹⊱❖⊰⊹══════
You were all leaving tomorrow morning and there are approximately 18 hours left before the trip. With Jake and Neytiri, you decided to use your avatar again for the journey.
You have only used it a couple of times (during the battle where Jake became the Toruk Makto, when Neteyam, Lo'ak, Kiri and Tuk were born to babysit them) before deciding that you are better off with your human body for Spider who you treated as a son.
The group will head to Awa'atlu and seek Uturu there, the distance is huge so you will not be found so easily. Once the plan has been made, you exited their house first to excuse yourself and walk around one last time in your human body.
Your shoulders slumped as you disappeared from the two's sight, you knew that you were being overdramatic since you have only lived here for almost two decades while the others lived here their whole lives. They are surely the ones who are being hit the most by this news.
Quaritch noticed you when you walked past him with a dazed expression without saying anything. Without saying anything he followed you, walking behind you in silence.
He just watched as your legs brought you to a familiar site, looking around this is where you brought him before.
This place is secluded in the area and only you tend to be a usual inhabitant of this place, not considering the wildlife. You told him before that this is a great place to rest whenever you or he wants to just be alone and away from whatever is troubling you both.
You did not know how your feet brought you to this place, heck you did not even notice that you were unconsciously walking if you did not almost smack your face on a tree. A familiar tail wrapped around your waist preventing you from an accident.
“Woah there, if you just wanted me to touch you, you could have just asked” He purred, pulling you closer with his tail, “There is no need to play these mind games”
As you regained your senses, you sighed in relief when you saw that Quaritch saved you from possibly breaking your mask.
“That scared me, thank you for the save”
The corners of your lips perked up as you great fully nodded at him. You gently untangled yourself from his tail before slumping onto the ground. You did not notice how his whole body tensed because you were facing the ground.
Quaritch felt his whole body want to shiver when you touched him and he took deep breaths to relax his body before placing all his attention on you.
“You know, you can go do your thing now”
Your finger drew circles on the ground beside you as you held your knees to your chest, mumbling with a dry laugh.
“I am fine here, no wild animals will come out of nowhere if you are afraid that I will get myself killed”
Quaritch knows that he is no good at comforting others or being uplifting, but he can listen. So wearing his usual smirk, he sat beside you.
“Yeah right and for your information, my thing is annoying you
”You looked at him with a raised brow that says "really?” and finally showed him a small but real smile.
“I swear, you are like a tail sometimes”
“I am the best tail that ever existed then”
There is the hint of human Quaritch that you are familiar with, that confident mindset, and how he holds himself.
You let out an amused huff before looking at the grass again, drawing random shapes. Silence enveloped the area, it was a comfortable one, to be honest.
Quaritch kept his eyes on you, enjoying the sound of nature as you both sat close to each other. He could feel the heat radiating from your body.
“An ikran for your thoughts?”
“Well...”
You ended up telling him about the plan of leaving the clan, you were expecting him to react negatively to this news because everything was finally great until now.
Hesitantly, you took a peak at his expression to see how he is looking straight into you, there is no emotion on his face that is negative. In fact, he looks relaxed like you just told him about your day.
“Why are you looking at me like that? Did you expect me to react like a child?”
He was met with silence making him open his mouth in shock.
“Really!?”
══════⊹⊱❖⊰⊹══════
This was the morning when the group will be leaving the clan, Quaritch woke up earlier than expected. He did not get out of his bed and just stared at the ceiling, thinking of how you hung out yesterday.
You told him about your thoughts and how you feel guilty about the whole thing. It was unreasonable since nobody would have thought that this will happen.
A shuffle sounded at the doorway and there stood the little human, human him made. The two of them have a friendly relationship, almost acting like a father and son but they have not reached that part of reconciliation yet, in your words.
“Thinking about a special someone, Quaritch?”
Spider grinned at him, crossing his arms over his chest as he leaned on the door frame.
“Who let you in here? I'm pretty sure this is a crime”
The man rolled his eyes as he sat up, not throwing the subject away which Spider noticed but decided not to comment on that.
“Oh calm yourself old man, I came here since you were not getting out at your usual time. We gotta go soon”
Since Spider cannot bind with an ikran since his avatar body is still in the construction phase, he will be flying with Lo'ak. You with him, Tuk with Jake, and the rest on their own.
══════⊹⊱❖⊰⊹══════
To this day, Quaritch cannot help but laugh at the fact Jake named his ikran “Bob" out of the billions of names available.
Everyone gathered at the meeting place except you and Lo'ak, it was almost time but no one except Quaritch is wondering where you are.
He tried to distract himself by tending to his Ikran, making sure that he is ready for the long flight. His ears twitched at the faint but familiar footsteps tapping from afar.
“There they are, took you long enough” Jake's voice has a hint of laughter but Quaritch still didn't turn around.
“Sorry about that, it took me a while to get a hang of this body again” An unfamiliar female voice came from the direction where you are supposed to come from. He whipped his head in your direction and it took his strength to not open his mouth in shock.
“Y/N?”
From the corner of his eyes, he saw Spider nudge Kiri with that same smirk of his. You told him before that Spider's smirk is really similar to his, you will never tell him how that smirk makes you feel inside though.
“Cat got your tongue, Miles?” Your hand is placed on your hip, above your small waist insinuating your curves as you threw him a smirk.
His voice got caught in his throat, making him look like a fish as he opened and closed his mouth.
At this sight, the family on the side who has been forgotten in this two-person world are whispering bets.
“I bet a whole month of chores that he's falling in love” - Lo'ak
“That is not possible because he already is in love. Have you been blind?” - Kiri
“I also suspect that Quaritch may be blind at his feelings, so is Y/N” - Neteyam
“Now kids, you should not be discussing this behind their backs” Neytiri went on between her children with a smile, at least the is something positive blooming in this trip “But I bet that Quaritch wants to mate with them more, now”
“Neytiri?!” Jake looked at his wife in disbelief, this was something he did not expect of her.
Back to your side.
“Just kidding, no need to take that seriously”
Extra:
Quaritch felt like hell, your arms are wrapped around him and he can feel your chest on his back. This was a test of self-control, you got worried with how tense he is.
"Are you feeling okay? Do you want me to ride with Neteyam instead? That is alright with me" Your breath hit his neck and he took a sharp inhale.
"No way, you are stuck with me the whole journey"
I will be posting the female reader version of this part tomorrow

Fateful Encounter. // Prologue.
Tumblr media
Neteyam × F!reader
based on this idea || chapter i || chapter ii || chapter iii || chapter iv || chapter v
Synopsis: You and few others humans were sent on a mission to find Jake sully and get his help, and possibly resolve the issues between navi and the humans, which were caused by the unethical procedures of the RDA. Will you be successful?
A/N: neteyam has won the poll so he will be chosen as the main lead, this will be a "x reader" fanfic, kinda follows avatar 1 plotline except it's reader and neteyam instead of jake and neytiri, RDA is obvs the villain, idk how many chapters this story will have but it's gonna be a ride for sure, so buckle up peeps!
Tumblr media
After the first great war between the Na'vi and the Humans, conflicts rose back on Earth as the unethical procedures issued by RDA on Pandora got leaked to the public eye.
There were many protests, petitions signed to stop RDA's project, humans sympathizing with the Na'vi, they didn't want the same fate as Earth and Humans occur to Pandora and it's living beings.
This led to a new organization being formed, now competing with RDA, called Space and Earth Resources Organization, SERO for short, they had the same idea as RDA but much less violence and battle equipment involved.
Y/n was the daughter of the scientist who worked in SERO, her avatar body was in progress, as the organization decided she and few others will be sent out to Pandora, they all will be sent to separate locations to look for jake sully.
Ever since she was young she had always dreamt of being a scientist, her curiosity to learn and obtain knowledge was one of the main driving reasons, but on a unfortunate night, her mom was killed in a gang encounter, they were unable to defend themselves having no fighting skill or a gun, after that she started training, she wasn't officially a soldier but trained just like them, she had both decent battle skills and knowledge which is what made SERO become interested in her.
Obviously she isn't perfect since she was only 18, but she was able to stand out, showing mediocre but consistent results.
As technology further advanced back on Earth, SERO accidentally figured out a way to travel faster to Pandora, it used to take 5 years, but now it only takes 3, due to the flaws of RDA's operation in the past, when SERO first sent out the very first batch of scientists they implemented a information system, where any information can travel faster through a communication device, it takes 2 - 3 days, but that's still better than 3 years of delayed information.
Their main goal was to reestablish good relations between the Humans and the Na'vi, while also simultaneously contributing to Earth, SERO has managed to bring back few of the extinct flora and fauna from DNA cloning, which resulted in positive reactions from both the Humans and Government.
This all led to the moment now, you said your goodbyes to your family, your dad and your siblings, giving them a hug, “I'll miss you, child.” your dad says while giving you a headpat and you pout “Dad! I'm not a child anymore.” you say, he smiles at you before reaching for something in his bag.
He pulls out a medium size box before handing it to you, you open it and gasp, it was filled with few polaroid photos of your family and a necklace of your mom.
“I know you'll miss us too even if you don't say it, so we decided to send you a few things that will remind you of us.” he says and you smile, tears filling your eyes and your dad looks at you with a soft smile before pulling you in for a hug.
“Thank you dad.” you say while sniffing and crying onto his shoulders, your siblings also start crying and you all have a nice family hug before you had to say your final goodbye for now.
“Goodbye everyone, I'll keep you updated through the communication device.” you say the last part to your dad who nods at you.
You look back once again before boarding onto the spaceship, “miss, come this way” you heard a a voice say, you follow them, leading you into a room where you see bunch of other humans, you go up to them and introduce yourself, they do the same.
3 years later
you had finally arrived to pandora after 3 whole years, your spaceship landed in a beautiful spot, it was so vibrant and filled with various plants, SERO decided to build around the flora on pandora rather than destroying it, which led to this vibrant and peaceful looking place, you put on your oxygen mask before stepping down from the spaceship and taking in the beauty of the planet.
“yo! welcome.” you and your group were greeted by this friendly lady with a smile, she looked like she was in her 30s, you greet her back with a smile too.
“come ill take you guys to the scientist camp, its not far from here but it is quite the trek.” she says brightly and you guys nod before following her, you gasp as you notice creatures of pandora flying over the area, they were so mystical, “btw i never told you my name, its Aria, Aria stone.” the lady says and you smile at her “nice to meet you miss stone.” you tell her.
“the animals here seem comfortable with flying over this area.” you point out which makes Aria look over to you “you noticed huh? we tried our best to build around the flora and not destroy the homes of many creatures living here, it was difficult at first but we figured it out and the animals dont mind us existing here, rather, it seems they actually like us but we cant get too cocky now.” she says with a wink which makes you chuckle.
you guys finally reach the scientist camp, you guys go inside and remove your oxygen masks as the air inside is machine based and pumps oxygen needed for humans, as you guys go further inside you notice a bunch of avatars sleeping with masks as few humans scurry around them.
“those are your vessels.” Aria says noticing you studying them, you look at her and give her a nod “they we're originally stored in liquid to preserve their body but since you guys are here, we bought them out, soooo are you guys ready?” she asks and you all say yes in unison, “perfect, but let's go freshen up first” she says and you guys scurry off to freshen up and come back in a few minutes, bodies more relaxed than before and faces glowing brighter, she then leads you guys to the room full of link units.
“this is where you'll be connecting with your avatar, you'll be training a bit in your avatar body, learning to hunt and survive how the na'vi people do, but based on the locations you're sent to, things will vary, but these are the basics” Aria finishes and leads everyone to their respective link unit, you lay down, excited for what to come, she closes the top and you close your eyes.
Your mind goes blank as you enter into a different world, visions of tree roots and everything passing by before you open your eyes in your avatar.
“hello? can you hear me?” you are questioned as soon as they saw you open your eyes, and you nod, getting up slowly, moving your hands and legs, wiggling your fingers and toes. “Motor control looks perfect, can you stand up?” they ask and you nod before following what they said, as soon as you stand up you notice how tiny they are next to you, you take some time to balance yourself and adjust to your new body.
“are you able to walk?” they ask and you try doing so, it takes a couple of steps before you can get used to the body and start walking normally, “everything looks perfect miss stone.” they talk into the communication device.
You are examining your body, you noticed that your senses have heightened than your normal human body, you're able to see, feel and hear better, “alright miss, everything looks perfect, you can change before going outside.” they say and hand you over human like clothes that were made to fit the Na'vi body.
You quickly remove the patient typa gown before getting in your normal clothes making your way to the exit, you open the door and close it before stepping outside to a beautiful garden with crops and a volleyball court made from tree branches and roots.
You breathe in the fresh air on Pandora, feeling euphoric, oxygen on earth isn't that great, you can't go outside without a mask sometimes due to the heavy pollution but here, the air is so fresh.
You go further into the garden and run around, feeling excited, the rest of your avatar peers are in their own world too, taking in Pandora's air and beauty, wishing earth could be like this too.
“Alright everyone! gather up here.” you hear a familiar voice say and you turn the direction where it's coming from, it's Miss stone, in her avatar form, her avatar form is just as beautiful as her, you quickly join the crowd who are gathering up in front of her.
She clears are throat before proceeding.
“I think we're all aware of what mission we're here for, is to fix the relations between the Humans and the Na'vi, and coming to an agreement with them, we have already managed to convince few of the clans taking help from the humans who were allowed to stay here, who partnered with us to this cause, but the main issue at hand is RDA.”
“I'm sure everyone is aware that RDA doesn't have good intentions anymore, they used to, they are trying to find a man named jake sully through a seperate mission and god knows what will happen if they do but before they find him, we need to find him first and ask his help, RDA is continuously destroying the neutral stance other clans have of Humans and robbing this planet, our mission is to prevent that.” she continues on with a serious face.
“For that, we will need to train first, learn to hunt and live the Na'vi way, I'm sure you guys have learnt the language in the past 3 years, but if you didn't fully grasp it you can still do it now, and after that you will be sent out to find Jake sully, RDA still doesn't seem to have successfully found him, he apparently left the original clan, and we have to find him first and fast, our team have been trying their best to distract them from their mission and it's working, you will be training for 3 months before being sent out, individually or just 2 people.” she says, the last sentence makes the other gasps
“That's too dangerous! It's better to go in groups.” one of the people say and Aria sighs “I know it is, but sending in groups will cause panic and confusion, other clans do not know that we exist and might confuse us for RDA and attack us, which we don't want to happen, and we have to be as less threatening as possible, if we go in groups then it's like walking right into the fire.” she says while looking down, the avatars are still not okay with this but everyone can understand what Aria means.
Silence falls as everyone is looking down before y/n speaks out “i'm ready.” she says making everyone look at her in shock but after seeing her serious face, everyone suddenly gets the motivation and encouraged by the aura, they all look up to Aria and say “We are too.” with pride lacing in their voice.
Aria gives a bright smile before nodding her head in acknowledgement.
“Let the training commence.”

Everything had happened fast, too fast. In a moment you were flying alone with Tsu, your Ikran, all the sky was yours... and in another moment, the metal bird appeared, a helicopter, you guessed, because it was quite similar to the ones Jake had drawn to show you once, warning you of how dangerous and lethal were the weapons they brought, and that they left nothing but ash and destruction in their path.
And you were good at flying with Tsu, you knew how to fly very well, but not well enough, for it had you cornered; the enemy rider was better, much better and more dangerous than any animal you had ever known. You were terrified, because you had never faced anything like this before, you could practically perceive their thirst for blood, for death and for your eventual defeat.
“Fly, Tsu!” You thought as you manibriated through the branches of the lush forest trees, still with the helicopter basically above you, shooting at everything it could, but at least, your Ikran was the fastest in the clan. “We almost lose it.”
But without you expecting it, you found yourself face to face against a corner with no way out, being literally against the sword and the wall.
You were paralyzed, your body didn't show any signs of reacting, your instincts failed you completely, you had no sense of direction to follow, you had never faced a situation like this before, you didn't know what to do, you felt like your heart was going to burst out of your chest.
With Tsu's alert screeching sounding as if it were miles away from you, behind great walls, you thought you had lost everything, that this was the way you would pass to the afterlife, that you would be with Eywa at any second now.
Your whole life began to flash before your eyes, your sight blurring and unfocusing, Neteyam's eyes appeared on the spotlight inside your head and your heart froze, thinking of him, thinking that you would never see him again. You were going to loose him.
But suddenly, if your ears didn't fail you, everything went silent, the metallic wings of the helicopter stopped and then there was a big explosion; the enemy had been shot down, but how? Had Eywa heard your prayers? Or were you dead? You were dying?
And as an answer to the million questions that were going through your head, Neteyam's Ikran appeared next to you, with it's owner mounting it, of course, his eyes were huge and disoriented, he was carrying his bow in hand and his hair was swaying with the wind and the sudden movement his Ikran made once it landed next to yours on the huge branch of the tree.
Your heart was pounding, like never before and your mind was spinning, vision even blurred from the adrenaline shooting through your body, you barely managed to formulate questions or words.
“Neteyam, what are you doing here, how did you―” Your mouth half opened, beginning to caress yourself with your hands, your eyes widening, face bathing in disbelief, pure shock. “Am I― Am I dead?”
The Ikrans greeted each other, nuzzling the other's head and purring a little, immediately recognizing each other as the close friends they were, it had always been apparent that the two of them held a special connection.
“Hey, (Y/N). Shh…” Neteyam shook his head, ears ducking, his expression quickly shifting to one of pure concern. He proceeded to lean over his Ikran, reaching out to stop your hand movements and bringing your attention to him. “You're not― You're not dead, okay?” His fingers brushed your hands gently, careful not to let his touch and closeness unsettle you any more than you already were. But, his closeness was always the anchor that brought you back to yourself, back to him. “You're here, you're with me.” He closed his eyes tightly and took a deep breath, trying to calm himself, noticing how truly anxious and out of yourself you were. “Let's go back, you need to rest. Can you fly, sevin?”
You simply nodded your head, brain focusing on the delicacy of his voice, the softness in his eyes and the nickname he used, making your senses thrill and begin to orbit around him, as they usually did.
Tsu purred under you, feeling directly the effect Neteyam had on you and then flapped his wings, jerking and shaking the tension and fear out of him with the movement.
Neteyam gave your hand a gentle squeeze, bending slightly to meet your gaze. “Talk to me, (Y/N). Can you follow me?”
“Always.” You promised him and he smiled softly, nodding his head before having his Ikran spread it's wings and take flight, Tsu truly did not hesitate for a moment to follow them, as faithfully as ever, flying alongside his good friend back home.
. . .
A couple of days had passed since the attack and Jake was furious, for the sky people had appeared again in the territory and with them, they brought no good news at all, on the contrary, their reappearance only confirmed that the war was still going on and that it would probably never end, since they kept coming, as bloodthirsty as ever. Jake hated them and now you understood why.
But now you were better, you felt full of energy again, angry, furious, because days ago you had been paralyzed at the probability of your death, you had not even fought back, you had not even tried and because of that, you felt frustrated with yourself. Tsu had also seemed to come back to himself, you hadn't flown with him since that day, you didn't want to force him into anything, but now he seemed happier, much less anxious.
“I'm glad to see you better.” Neteyam commented, once he found you, in that special spot he knew you liked so much, your little hideout, the Tree of Souls.
When you turned to see him, you found him with a beautiful smile plastered on his lips, his bright hair falling delightfully down his shoulders and his tail swaying daintily behind his back.
As he made his way towards you, you returned the smile. “Truth be told, I'm angry now that I didn't do anything at the time.”
He shook his head once he was beside you, looking down at you with his glowing gaze, reflecting the beautiful natural glow of the tree in front of him, watching you intently. “Anyone would have done the same in your position, it was a complicated situation.”
Seeing how you were linked to one of the tree's connections, he lifted his braid, pulling it closer as well. His pupils dilated and his smile widened as he heard the voices of his ancestors inside his head, listening as the memories passed through him, hearing the laughter and chanting, hearing the past.
Your eyes lowered for a moment before raising it again to meet his. “But you were there and you did what I could not, Neteyam. You killed them.” You disconnected your bond from the memories so you could return to the present, holding his gaze. “And you saved my life.”
The smile faded from his face, but a sparkle passed through his big, beautiful eyes as he shook his head and disconnected his bond from the tree. “Anyone would have―”
You rushed to interrupt him, raising your hand to his cheek, hesitating to rest it on his skin. “No. You saved me.”
Neteyam smiled at you again and without even hesitating for a second, he lifted your hand and cradled yours, drawing it over his cheek, leaning his head into it, longing to be closer to your touch, to be close to you. “I would do anything to keep you safe, (Y/N). I want you safe.” Now his hand brought yours to his mouth, pressing a soft kiss to your palm. “I don't want to lose you.”
“What can I do to thank you for what you've done for me?” you dared to ask him, in a delicate whisper, tilting your head slightly, observing as he placed a tender kiss on your knuckles now.
He half-opened his lips, letting out a soft breath before speaking, also in a whisper, his eyes seeming to glow as bright as the moons, luring you to fall into them, like a bottomless pit, a pit you would happily throw yourself into deliberately. “You know what…”
You moved a little closer to him, ears lowered. “But... you really want me? There are great women in the clan, strong and beautiful enough to be the next Tsahik.” Your gaze dropped to your feet, blushing slightly under his watchful gaze. “And to be your mate…”
Neteyam smiled once more as he leaned closer to you, brushing a lock of hair behind your ear. “I've already chosen who I want as my mate. I've known for as long as I can remember.” He then cradled your jaw against his hand, causing you to lift your chin towards him as he noticed how you had lowered your gaze. “It's you. It's always been you. You're all I can think of, the strongest, most beautiful, smartest, bravest in the clan. Perfect.”
Your smile twisted into a sadder one. “But Neteyam, you have a duty, as the next leader of the clan…”
“Love is the death of duty... I would break every rule that binds me to duty for you.” His nose brushed against yours affectionately, but, still, he stopped right there and searched your eyes with his. “Can I kiss you?”
“Please, do whatever you want with me.” You whispered against his lips.
Both of his hands cradled your face as he joined his mouth to yours in the sweetest, softest kiss you had ever been given. Your hands were immediately drawn to his body, like a magnet, sinking into his warmth, his essence, sinking into him.
And if that day you were attacked you hadn't gotten to be with Eywa, now the feeling felt closer than ever, as if the gates of paradise were opening right in front of you, inviting you in, flooding you with the most beautiful, indulgent feeling you had ever felt even a glimpse of them. That was Neteyam's effect on you, the power he had over you.
“You… you taste so good.” He murmured before giving you a couple more short kisses and then, he pulled away a few inches, watching you with a raised eyebrow and a curved little smile at the corner of his lips. “Your face is purple, are you okay?”
“Shut up.” You mumbled letting out a silly giggle, rolling your eyes, before joining your lips with his in a kiss again, now becoming more passionate and desirous, pretentious even. His hands now ran down your neck, caressing your shoulders and arms, until settling on the curve of your waist, fitting there as if missing pieces of a long forgotten puzzle were. As if his hands were made for your body, as if he was made for you. Maybe he was.
He pressed you against him and quickly you were both on the ground, sitting facing each other on the smooth leaves and grass that Eywa provided around the Tree of Souls, glowing with its bioluminescence, the night falling deliciously at your backs.
Neteyam's eyes seemed to dazzle you as they looked at you once more, reflecting all the light he had around him.
“Do you want this too?” He asked tenderly, fingers so meekly and delicately caressing the skin of your cheeks, cheekbones and jaw, as if you were the most delicate flower in all of Pandora, looking at you as the most beautiful and perfect creation Eywa had ever provided.
You could barely nod your head, stunned by all the emotions coursing through you and he smiled affectionately at this, brushing his thumb across your lower lip now, tracing the delicate skin.
“Words,” he whispered, warm breath brushing against your mouth, eyes admiring you affectionately, “I need words, baby. Talk to me.”
The nickname and his voice had an immediate effect on your body, that fluttering in your stomach seemed to intensify you and the heat between your legs shot through your whole body, shooting shivers up your neck.
“I want you― I want this, Neteyam.” You finally answered him, breathless and he smiled once more, leaving a small kiss on your lips. “I want no one but you, nothing else.”
“There's my smart girl.” One more kiss, as he complimented you in a soft, proud tone, and then he bent his head, leaving wet kisses across your jaw, down your neck. “I'll take very good care of you, don't worry. I'll make you feel good.”
You gave him more access to your skin, twisting your head to the side and closing your eyes, completely pleased, feeling each time how your body wanted more of him in you, you were on the verge of madness.
“Tell me if you want me to stop, okay?”
“Okay.” You affirmed, nodding your head slowly, still with your eyes closed.
“Good girl.” He complimented you, you managed to hear the smile on his lips as he spoke and then he planted a kiss on your closed eyelids before he started kissing your collarbone, moving down between your breasts, moving lower and lower. “You are so beautiful. The most beautiful.”
“Yours, I am yours.” You promised in a whisper.
“You will be.”
You swallowed saliva as you felt his hot breath against your pelvis. “Please don't stop.”
His soft lips followed a path he was making for himself across the inside of your thighs, which, you had opened, of course, allowing him to have more access to you, to the most sensitive part of your body, the part that most longed to have him close. His proximity had obvious effects on you, an effect that did not go unnoticed by Neteyam, as he let out a gasp as he sensed the warmth felt between your legs.
His eyes lifted, to look at you once again and you noticed immediately how dilated his pupils were now, his expression had also changed, blinded by desire, passion, longing to have you so close, intoxicated by your scent and warmth.
And even though, verbally and physically you had conveyed to him that you were completely at his mercy, he questioned in a soft tone. “Can I kiss you here?”
Your heart wanted to pound out of your chest as you nodded your head, biting your lip lightly before answering him between shaky breaths. “Yes, 'Teyam, please.”
He kissed your thighs one last time before his hands reached for your clothes, fingers hooking into the fabrics to pull them out of his way, he pulled the tie at the side of your hip and the thin fabric slipped off, sliding down your hips and falling to the floor on the side. And from one moment to the next, you were completely naked in front of him, on full display for his observant eyes, which didn't stop looking at your body for a second. He looked stunned, speechless, as if he was looking at the brightest star in the sky.
And when you felt his lips landing on your heat, you did feel like you were flying, like your body began to levitate and simply orbit around him, around his soft lips, his tongue and how he made you feel. It was a feeling you had never even imagined yourself feeling, you were sure you would see Eywa any moment now, within your closed eyes.
Your back arched involuntarily, body reacting to the wave of pleasure that succumbed against you and you swore you felt him smile against you as your whimpers began to invade the place and reached his ears.
Your hand sought his head, sinking into his silky hair at the same time as one of his ran up your stomach, fingers shooting shivers down his path across your skin and you moaned as his tongue traced a path through your folds and then sucked gently.
“You taste so good, (Y/N).” He whispered against you, wet noises that made you blush even more were heard as he kissed tenderly and so laboriously. Neteyam moaned with delight, as if he was feasting on the most delicious food he had ever savored. “You are the finest meal I have ever tasted.”
At his words and the way his tongue moved against you, your legs felt weak, fingers tugging at his hair. “N―Neteyam…”
As you moaned, your thighs pressed against his head and he seemed to almost purr in contentment, completely thrilled at the way you were crumbling under his mouth, which he withdrew, leaving light kisses on the inside of your thighs, noticing how you were beginning to speedily head towards your climax and all because of his doings.
He smiled as he saw a pout form in your mouth at the lack of friction, dark eyes, dilt pupils, trembling legs, you really were a sight to see. Beautiful, he thought.
“Relax, baby, I want you to let go when I'm inside you, okay? Don't be eager now. I want us to do it together…”
You weren't used to hear such obscene words coming out of Neteyam's mouth, moreover, with luck sometimes you managed to hear him say a couple of curse words, taken from Jake's vocabulary, but, hearing him say all that and with that tone of voice that, it seemed, was reserved for your ears only, turned out to be something so exciting and uncommon that you immediately felt yourself blushing, as your body was scandalized, just for him.
But it was when he followed an imaginary wet path of kisses across your stomach and raised his head, that you saw how his lips and surroundings were totally soaked by your own wetness, glistening against the bioluminescence. At that sight, you felt that knot that was being pulled and tugged with each passing second in his proximity tighten fiercely.
He gave you a small kiss and the taste of your own flavor on his lips shot shivers through your body.
Neteyam took your chin and made you look directly at him. “You're doing so good, baby.” He pressed a small kiss to your nose as he gave you a warm soft smile. “Now I want you to hop up on my lap, okay? Come here.”
And who were you to even think of doubting his commands?
With the support of both of his hands passing around your waist and giving your ass a squeeze, you jumped onto his lap, immediately embracing his neck and attacking his lips with your own, feeling his fangs nibble on your lower lip delicately. You let out a ticklish giggle as he descended his kisses down your neck once more, hands caressing everything they could touch within reach, molding your curves, grabbing and massaging every inch of skin on your body, leaving you breathless and craving for more, you always desired more, you could never get enough of him.
Then, his hand took your braid, while the other caressed the side of your thigh and he smiled at how you had so quickly gotten his idea, when you delicately took the longest braid of his, bringing it closer to yours held in his hand, ready to link up with each other.
“Are you sure this is what you want?” Neteyam asked once more, caressing your face now with his unoccupied hand and dragging his gaze from your bonds to your eyes, which softened, giving you the last chance to take back this decision, the last chance to run away from him, the last chance to not spend the rest of your life by his side.
You simply looked at him affectionately and lifted up slightly to give him a gentle kiss, at last joining your bond with his. You both trembled and breathed shakily, pupils dilated, ears ducking.
And so, under the glow of the stars, before the eye of Eywa and all of Pandora, you mated for life. It was done. And none of you seemed to regret it for a second.
“I see you, (Y/N).” He murmured against your lips, forehead pressed against yours, eyes closed, for even so, he could see you, he could feel you, he could admire your gorgeousness, your very soul, through more than just his eyes. Your soul danced next to his and his spirit connected to yours. He was yours, always had been.
“I see you, Neteyam.”
You smiled, feeling his warmth envelop you, his essence, his soul, sink into you and fill you with a feeling you knew only he was capable of making you feel. It was Neteyam after all, your Neteyam
“Please, I need you.” You begged against his lips. “So bad, my love.”
Neteyam lets out a shaky breath, feeling as if his heart would explode, of love, of desire, of pure euphoria. Holding you against him tightly, he lined the head of his cock up against your soaked folds, almost feeling your insides clenching on nothing, longing to hold him inside.
You both moaned simultaneously when he was finally inside you, feeling as he made his way through your tight gummy walls.
“O-Oh, shit, baby.” Neteyam groaned shakily against your ear, from the pleasure, the feeling of being wrapped up by you, from your nails scratching his back, your small, broken little whimpers against him. It all felt so good, so heavenly.
Your body seemed to almost collapse from feeling so full of it, legs trembling.
Neteyam hid his face against your neck, squeezing his eyes tightly shut, trembling lips brushing against your sensitive skin, letting himself fall into how your walls squeezed him so deliciously, how he fit perfectly between them, as if you were made for him.
“So tight…” He murmured between kisses and little nibbles at the base of your neck. “You feel like heaven.”
He had heard stories from his father telling of how religion was back in his world, of how people worshipped a god, a god who lived beyond the sky, in a place called heaven, which was paradise, the highest place anyone could reach, a place of pure splendor, magnificence and harmony. Neteyam was sure that god did not feel as good in his heaven as he did in his, in you.
“Neteyam...” You managed to call out to him, breath coming in ragged gasps and voice trembling. Your voice only makes Neteyam feel higher, more elated than ever, and he responds to it immediately, coming out of hiding so he can look directly at you, noticing how your eyes held tears, cheeks flushed, hands trembling behind his back.
He proceeded to kiss you affectionately, letting out a shuddering breath, as he caressed your waist, ass, back, everything possibly within his reach. “Can I move?”
It took a couple of seconds before you managed to nod your head, starting to feel how, slowly, your body began to get used to him, to his filling, how your warm walls molded to his size.
He left a couple of delicate kisses on your nose and forehead as he began to move, dragging his cock with his movements and begin to slowly fuck inside of you, having to bite his lip to keep from letting out the most animalistic growl ever heard.
At the sudden movement inside you, you gasped, fiercely tightening your grip on his back, making him moan against your lips each time you scratched his skin.
“'Te-Teyam―” You cried out his name and he silenced you with a kiss, so deeply intimate that you felt, amidst all the pleasure and excitement, that you would sob any minute now.
“It's all right, my love. I got you.” He whispered between moans against your mouth, giving you a slightly harder thrust upwards, causing your mouth to slightly half-open, moaning in between breaths. “I got you...”
Neteyam pressed you against his body, bringing you with him once he lay down on the ground, leaving you sitting on his cock, hands around your waist to support you and help you move over him.
The new position made you both groan, feeling closer than ever.
Your back arched every time you moved on him, up and down, circling, whatever you did, it had Neteyam completely spellbound, lips quivering, eyes closed, hands squeezing tightly on your hips.
Your linked braids swayed with the movements, brushing against your hands on Neteyam's chest.
“You do it so well,” He blubbered this time, half-opening his eyes to look up at you, seeing you glowing above him. “oh Great Mother, shit, fuck― (Y/N)”
You could feel his lower abs tensing with every little movement you made on his cock, his hands went down to your ass, grabbing as much skin as they possibly could.
“Oh shit.” You groan, closing your eyes, feeling the head of his cock rub against that spot with every thrust inside you, pushing you over the edge quickly.
From one moment to the next and locked beneath the strength of his arms, you were now under his body, cock filling all the way to the brim, as one hand lifted one of your legs against him, knee on his waist, allowing him to reach where he had not been able to before, which had you basically gasping for air.
“You've been so good, let me fill you up, yes?” Neteyam whispered huskily, forehead resting against yours, eyes looking at you affectionately, but as dark as you've ever seen them. “Let me fill you with my seed, you deserve it, you've been such a good girl to me, let go, let go with me…”
“Yes please.” You managed to plead between whimpers, eyesight blurred from tears, hands sinking through his hair, nose brushing against his before giving him a kiss. “Oeyä Neteyam―”
Your words and voice was what threw him off the edge and growling so animalistic against your lips, his thrust trembled, hips quivering against yours as he felt your walls tighten in a death grip around his cock, barely allowing him to move as he painted your walls his color, shooting his hot seed into your womb. Face hiding again in your neck, sinking into your skin and scent, body pressing against yours, so soft and warm.
You are both barely breathing, slowly feeling yourselves coming back to reality, the world crawling back to you, heartbeat normalizing. You felt how your throat was dry, body feeling so heavy and tired now.
All was silent, your fingers began to stroke and comb through his hair, ears, cheeks, nape of his neck and back.
But Neteyam didn't want to come back to reality, he wanted to stay right there, sunk into you, inside you, forever. His cock softened inside you and promptly, the adrenaline and euphoria stopped coursing through his veins, feeling nothing but love now, drowning love, feeling only you.
“Thank you, baby―” He whispered, choking back a sob.
Your brow furrowed slightly and you rested your hands on his cheeks, forcing him to pull away from you so you could look at him. His eyes were crystallized with tears, but you could see nothing but love and warmth in them, you saw nothing but his soul reflecting yours.
“Thank you, for saving me.” You whispered against his mouth, giving him a small kiss and then, kissing his nose, and eyelids, once he closed them, blinded by your affection.
“No,” Neteyam answered you, opening his eyes, your thumb wiping away a tear that managed to escape, preventing it from wetting his already sweaty cheeks. “You saved me, yawnetu.”
You just kissed him, over and over again.
sevin: pretty.
oeyä: my, mine.
yawnetu: loved one, beloved, lover, beloved person.

Tumblr media
Tonowari stared at the shell with confusion. Once that confusion subsided it was replaced with guilt and sorrow. He crouched down picking up the shell and holding it tightly in his hand. You would wish he would hold you tightly in his hand like he did with the shell, but it wasn't meant to be.
It never was. Maybe you knew this from the start? When did he become like this? You thought in your head. One thought coming from the other. Were you truly a poor excuse in a wife? And a nagging one at that?
Clingy, they said. Is it so wrong to cling to your husband? Wasn't it truly the way of things? You did love him with all your heart, but you would start to think that you were far too attached to him.
Maite?
Maite..?
"Maite!", said your mother as she brought you out of your thoughts.
"What's wrong?", she added.
"Ah, I'm sorry Mother, I've just had a stressed day," you replied in a fainter voice, including a small voice crack due to your depressing thoughts.
Your mother gave you a small smile before taking whatever you were working on out of your hands and setting it down on the table.
"Go rest in your marui, I'm sure Tonowari will be waiting for you there.", she said softly with a smile.
Ah, yes. You had to go back to your home with the person you least wanted to encounter. You still had not told your mother about this interaction with your mate, and that was why you made up fake excuses to stay in your Mother's marui for the time being.
You gave your Mother a smile and a respectful nod and stood up, saying your goodbye as you lightly walked out of the marui.
The night time was always a peaceful time of day for all, but not for you.
You trekked silently along the village, worrying about not waking anybody from their slumber. Once you reached your marui you let out a sigh and had a deep breath. Tonowari had to still be out with his companions hunting, right?
You walked in and were greeted by a familiar face, your mate. He sat along the bed you shared, sharpening his spear and focusing his attention directly on it. Oh, Eywa.
He stopped and raised his head taking a look at you. You shared eye contact, which was silent. Although, your eyes spoke volumes.
Both of you stayed like this for a few seconds before he reverted his attention to his spear once more. Although, there was a bit of guilt marked on his face, something you could not see.
You clenched your fist and let out a small sigh and spoke.
"Am I really this clingy and irritating to you like you speak of?"
Why would you say that? Eywa please help me, you thought. Maybe you should've stayed silent. But you continued.
His eyes quickly came to yours, with that same silent eye contact. He looked lost for words, this you could see.
"Please tell me that at least a part of this was real, Tonowari.", you spoke in whispers, holding back a tear.
"Speak Tonowari, please."
"You made a promise.", you continued.
These words shot daggers into his heart. He was so used to his quiet and loving wife. Why did he feel all this sorrow deep in his heart if he believed you were so irritating?
"I'm.. I'm sorry.", he spoke quietly.
"What are you sorry for?"
"For everything, for what I said. And for how I acted.", he said breaking the eye contact, for he couldn't bear to see the pain written all over your face.
He dropped his spear and stood up, coming close to you, so that both your waists were almost in touch. As he towers over you, you feel a wet tear rolling down your face. Not yours. His.
He raised his hand and stroked a piece of your hair gently.
"I don't know how to love you… but I'm ready to try.", he speaks.
"No. We're finished, Tonowari. You do not love me.", you reply, tears now visible in your eyes.
You get out of his grasp.
"I'm leaving.", you grab your things, clothes, anything you could possibly snatch in those 10 seconds. You spot your seashell on the table. The seashell he gifted you. Your disdainful gaze softened a bit at the sight, before you grabbed that as well. You shoved everything in a basket before going in front of him again.
"Please, yawntu, I will try and I will be better. I-", he said and you cut him off.
"Don't, please.", you winced a bit at his words. "Don't make this harder than it should be." You grabbed his hand, gently although you wish you hadn't. You placed a familiar seashell in his hand, and closed his finger, making his grab the seashell in his hand.
"Goodbye, yawntutsyìp."
"Goodbye, Tonowari."

# 𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐘’𝐑𝐄 𝐉𝐄𝐀𝐋𝐎𝐔𝐒 — SULLY BOYS + KIRI
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
— (avatar : twow) -> drabble !
⠀࣪. ᨳ — synopsis. sullies and their jealousy.
cw. contains no spoilers ! gn + non sully + navi reader
auth notes. wanted to write a jealousy trope w the sully teens, because they’re highly emotional and i love them for it. i barely see any kiri works on my feed (˃̣̣̥ヘ˂̣̣̥) !
characters. neteyam, lo’ak + kiri sully (♡⃕)
warnings. slight angst , but no real warnings
Tumblr media
: LO’AK — ꒷ ᵎᵎ ₊
claims that he is hardly ever jealous. covetous when you join aonung further in the surf than you’re supposed to? sure. bitter when you pitch a friendly arm around neteyam after a close call with jake? fine. but jealous? noooo. he’ll sulk and lodge into a hole with himself all day, eyebrows intrenched and mood sullied with grime. he will confide with payakan and let drop the secret of his jealousy — but it will take weeks for you to converge him in his free time. dwell deep into his bones, skin and soul. feel his jealousy, his bitterness. stipple his knuckles gently whilst he belts his honesty out — “yes, yes i was jealous” — in the stretched out darkness of you and him and the stars — he is bound to love you endlessly.
: NETEYAM — ՞ 〃 ᩙᩙ
thinks he handles jealousy well but its an adversarial clockwork in that head of his. a ticking time bomb. although it takes more to will him, it is not wholly avoidable — lo’ak will lackadaisically mention that you’re hunting with rotxo or seen with aonung, bickering as you usually do, not to get a rise out of his brother — the older’s ears are erect and twitching on their own. but it’s not jealousy, but mere inquisitiveness. it’s in the later frills of the day that he hears from you less often or sees you as a piddling dot. expect him to laxly appear by you, take your hand in his larger one. he will glare more and talk less, just dragging you here and there, with just four footprints — when you nest deep in his warlike head, he will sigh and tell you “i missed you” with his fingers melting on your own and your lips are already on him.
: KIRI — . ˚ 𖧷 · °
its less like a flame with kiri, and more like melting wax: the sting of jealousy will persist in vexing her in the comfortable welt of the sun or silent brooklet with sand and stones at her feet like a candle weeping: she hears her heart, thumping, with the beat of eywa guiding her. but her body is hot and brambly when she spots you awkwardly cackling with her brothers or the boys of the main. she sticks her head beneath the foamy waves and attempts to entrance herself with the rhythm of eywa. she thinks it is because of her difference. her ‘weirdness.’ but her leer and concentration is razed when two blue feet dig in the sand in front of her — water is lodged in her hair and lashes as she gawps at you and asks you “what are you doing here?” and when you tell her how much the boys bore you and how much she doesn’t, she’ll curl her fingers around your palm and giggle as she descends into the nippy waves, knowing no one will intrigue you as much as she does.

─────── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───────
Before he knows it, Lo’ak feels the warmth of your arms around his middle and although he is not in the optimal position to enjoy it, drowning and all, his heart soars at the feel of your touch. You haul the both of you towards the surface, soft legs brushing alongside his as you kick and kick and kick, mind set on getting him to safety.
Lo’aks ears perk up as they register the whistle-click sound of you calling for a nearby tsurak. Now above water, he has just enough wherewithal to look up and watch as Niie dutifully responds to your call with her speedy appearance. Traitor.
Small gasps of air are just about enough for him to regain some cognizance, eyes watching curiously as Niie allows you to make tsaheylu and mount her without so much as a fuss. In your rush to attach yourself and your impromptu rescuee to Niie securely, you do not realise his partial recovery.
As you breathe methodically, attempting to stay calm as per your training, you assume that the glazed-over look in his eyes is from Lo’ak coming in and out of consciousness and instruct Niie to make for the village, urgency communicated through the sacred bond.
His mind races as he feels your body pressed up against his. You had propped him up in front of you, so that his back would be leaning against your front, seated on top of Niie. He processes the situation and begins to fantasise about you, his sweet saviour. What he would do to kiss your inviting lips. Perhaps when you get back to shore you’ll be so desperate to save him you’ll give him mouth to mouth, just like in the movies.
That’s it!, Lo’ak muses to himself. All I have to do is play it up! If one movie trope is true then surely they all are, right?, he thinks naively. Though he may have grown substantially over the past five years in both stature and mental strength, he still had the emotional intelligence of an adolescent Na’vi.
Paired with the idealistic nature of tawtute romantic movies, this makes for an interesting combination, to say the least. Intent on fulfilling his desires, he enacts his half-baked plan with gusto.
He gently turns his head so that it lolls to the left and rests on your shoulder. Bleary eyes look up at you as he smiles deliriously, further selling the idea of him being out of it by rolling his eyes into the back of his head dramatically. He hears you murmur a soft “Oh, Great Mother” and smiles inwardly, willing Niie to put her back into it so you can get to the village and he can get his kiss sooner.
Finally reaching the village shore, Lo’ak remains in character, pressing his eyelids firmly shut as you let out a short grunt, heaving his body off of Niie. You lug him onto the sanctuary of sand, so caught up in your aim of helping him that you do not hear Ao’nung’s concerned and confused shouts as he runs towards you.
Going into autopilot, you lay him flat on the sand and sharply press a flattened palm just under the ‘X’ of his ribs. Without a moment’s delay, your harsh jab jerks his lungs into action.
Before he has a chance to register that his plan is failing spectacularly, he sits up, torso rising out of reflex as he hacks up short bursts of water. The image of his mouth opening and closing reminds you of a baby payoang and despite your efforts, you do not succeed in hiding your amusement.
Lo’ak’s ears begin to ring from the unexpected purge of water from his lungs and his hearing clears just as Ao’nungs bellowing laughter and your sweet giggles reach his ears that are folded back in embarrassment. He wallows in self-consciousness for a second, before allowing himself to bask in the warmth of your gaze as you look down at him and ask if he is okay.

After giving you a hurried “Irayo!”, Lo'ak immediately makes for the Sully family marui, eager to recount his story to somebody, anybody. As he approaches the marui, he sees a full head of braided hair through the slightly ajar opening. Must be Neteyam. He lengthens his strides, entering the marui with an excited “Ayo bro, you won’t believe what just happ-”
He is swiftly cut off by a mildly irritated “I am not your bro. I am your mother, boy” and as he walks in fully he is met with a disapproving look only a mother could execute perfectly.
“Ma- Ma sa’nok,” Lo’ak stutters, caught off guard and still recovering from the somewhat traumatic experience he’d had less than half an hour ago. “Oel ngati kameie.” He greets her respectfully, bringing his fingers to his forehead and hoping it’s enough to stave off whatever bone she has to pick with him now.
When she abandons the root vegetable she was chopping, rises from the woven mat she was previously seated on and stalks up to him like predator to prey, he knows he has no chance. Eywa help him.
“What kind of time do you call this? I thought I told you it was your turn to help me prepare lunch today?” Oh, right. He had set out for the water so early, day had not yet broken. When he cranes his neck to look to the sky now, he realises it is mid-afternoon. With all the excitement of the day he had forgotten the promise he made to his mother.
Neytiri’s beads clack against each other, head moving in sync with her questioning, whole body communicating her displeasure. “Or is my adult son incapable of keeping his word?”
As the scathing words depart from her mouth, Neytiri instantly regrets them. She knows that ever since the return of the Sky People had nearly threatened his brother’s life, Lo’ak had done everything in his power to avoid disappointing his parents. Even betraying his naturally adventurous and rebellious spirit to do so. Inching towards him slowly, her eyes search for his after seeing his head drop, jaw setting stubbornly and eyebrows furrowing. A look from Lo’ak she knows all too well.
When he eventually braves eye contact with her, he is relieved to find the apologetic question lurking within them – will you forgive me?
With a gentle sigh, he drops his head forward, leaning down so that it rests on her shoulder. He mumbles a quick, but sincere, “’m sorry sa’nok” into her shoulder, her hand coming up to lovingly caress the back of his head. She lets out an appreciative hum as the two sway back and forth, before resuming their conversation with an inquisitive “So what was it that you were so desperate to say that you mistook me for your tsmukan, eh?” And with that, Lo’ak tells her all about you.
He speaks of the embarrassment he still feels warming his cheeks, considering the fact that he spent the first ten minutes of meeting you staring like a creep and the next ten flapping about like a payoang struck by the fateful arrow of a crossbow. Deciding to be vulnerable with her, he tells her of Cupid’s arrow of love that he has heard of in multiple tawtute movies, how he knows he too has been struck by it.
Of course, she asks to know who this ‘kyoopid’ is (she refuses to watch tawtute trash) and to his dismay, his explanation is met by an affronted “Eywa is the only divine being!” before she warns him that she had better hear him sing the loudest at communal worship in the coming evening.
He groans playfully, allowing himself to find amusement in his mother’s idiosyncrasies before insisting that Eywa does not want to hear his croaky voice. The mother and son wile away the time, preparing lunch together while Lo’ak bares his heart to her, telling the story of his newest love to his oldest love.
As the cooking of the meal nears completion, Neytiri’s tender gaze meets her son’s and she asks, “What is the name of this girl then? So I can thank her for saving my skxawng son?” And interrogate her to see if she is fit to mate with the son of Toruk Makto, she adds in her mind.
It is with that query that Lo’ak realises that he did not, in fact, ask you for your name. He never will beat those ‘skxawng’ allegations, will he? In an uncommon moment of romantic flair, he tells her about the Greek goddess of love, Aphrodite (Kiri had been talking his ear off about Greek lore since she found a book about Greco-Roman mythology from Grace’s recovered belongings). As if experiencing an epiphany, he decides that this will be his nickname for you. After all, you danced like you too, were born of the sea.
While Neytiri insists that she will not allow her ears to be poisoned with any more tawtute nonsense, she is secretly happy that she is the first to hear of Lo’ak’s romantic developments and makes a mental note to laud it over Jake in the near future.
Soon enough, it is late afternoon and the Sullys are all gathered to eat the meal prepared with love. When Jake hears the story, he cheekily remarks with his typical refined rasp, “Y’should thank your old man for those good ol’ Sully genes that make a pretty girl wanna save ya, boy” as he directs a wink across the table at Neytiri, ignoring the indignant chorus of "Dad!" chimed by his disgusted children.
Used to his jesting by now, Neytiri rolls her eyes and retorts, “If not for the Great Mother you would be long dead by now, skxawng.” The marui fills with the joyous laughter of the four children – Neteyam’s brief chuckle, Kiri’s amused scoff, Lo’ak’s mocking guffaw and Tuk’s high-pitched titter. As Lo’ak observes his parents, he lets his mind wander and begins to imagine what domestic life with you would look like. For you, he decides, he’s happy to never beat those skxawng allegations.
