Strings of their hearts💕 FULL chapter 1
You bursted from your dream, flying up to sit up in your bed. Cold sweat practically dripping from your face. It was that dream again.. you couldn't stand that dream, the uncanny silence always followed by you falling to the ground and wondering what was happening, or what happened really. You never fully understood why you started having that reoccurring dream, you never did anything in the waking world to even cause the dream. You didn't watch horror movies alot, and you haven't been to a forest since you were a pre-teen. Even then, your memories about that summer were blurry and you couldn't remember what happened.
Looking to your nightstand you read your clock "5:00 AM" You sighed, 'time to get up' . You and your friend group had an entire weekend planned out, you all had been planning this for a few weeks, you all would take 3 of your vacation days off of work and go do fun stuff. Fun stuff as in go out on the town for 2 days and regret it all on the third and go back to work on the 4th, today you all were gonna go shopping, you all had very decent jobs so it wasn't very hard to save up alot of spending money.
So not wanting to be late you got up and trudged to your bathroom, flicking the light on you slightly jolted at your appearance 'damn I look like shit man..' you sighed, your hair an absolute mess and your shirt had a wet spot of drool on the collar. Getting ready was the easiest part of most of your days, as you usually knew exactly what was going to happen in the day, so you knew how to dress. But as this days only objective was to "go shopping" it was to vague to know exactly how to dress, but going casual should be good enough. Getting in and out of the shower was a simple task other than the undying fear that you'll slip and break your neck.
You dried your hair with a towel, you wouldn't brush it till you went downstairs. Throwing on your grey button up and torn jeans you shut the lights off and headed downstairs to do your hair and eat breakfast "alexa play don't worry be happy" you stated nonchalantly, it was your favorite song to play in the mornings to calm the nerves.
Humming along to the song, you shuffled to the kitchen in your socks. 'Hmm cereal or eggs...cereal...or....nah cereals easier' you moved over to the cabinets, opening them and pulling out the generic unhealthy colorful marshmallow cereal. You only had a few dishes in your kitchen as you lived alone, unlike your friends who had spouses and kids already. You preferred to live alone, it was more peaceful this way, you had less to worry about. Though you didn't hate the idea of a family, you just didn't really have time to go on dates, you hadn't even had a vacation since you first got your new job. Shaking your head you brought your thoughts back to the task at hand : 'find a bowl and spoon and eat already dude!'
As soon as you got your bowl of cereal ready you moved to your large living room, with black leather couches and dark rugs that complemented the rest of your homes dark pallette. You turned your large mounted TV on and immediately changed it to cartoons, not really wanting to bother watching the News, you already knew the world was going to shit you didn't need another reminder while you where trying to eat your color bombed cereal.
You sighed in content when you settled on spongebob, the joyful sponge making you forget about it all. You finished eating and reached to your brush that was laying on the couch from the previous day of you being to tired to put it up, sighing you brush through all the tangles of your messy hair and half styling it, as in you just brushed your bangs out of your eyes and called it a day.
You pulled your phone from your jeans right pocket, seeing it was already "7:45 AM" you smiled, it was time to go pick up some of your friends!
.
.
.
You got in your car, it was the biggest out of your friends, the most seats and room. So it was the favorite of the group, in total your friend group would be riding in two cars, to make it easier to go from place to place. In your car, you had : Mark, Jamie, Clara, Anita, and Fry. You were close friends with Clara, Anita, and Fry, Mark and Jamie being mutual friends you met through the group. Your friend Claire was driving the second car, in their car they had: Gary, Moose, and Wendy.
You and Wendy used to date, you remember. But you both knew it would've never worked out, neither of you could imagine a future with eachother, but you two were still very good friends. You were the ring carrier at her wedding, she had a very kind wife, always smiling and always caring for others.
Smiling you drove the half hour to pick your first friends up, Mark and Fry. They lived next to eachother, everyone in the group knew they had it bad for eachother but themselves, you shook your head, they were so oblivious to eachother. You tried turning your radio on, but to your dismay, all that played was static. You tried connecting it to the Bluetooth but that wouldn't work either 'Huh...weird, might have to take it to the shop already.' You slightly grumbled, you really didn't want to take it to the shop. You had just gotten this car barely a year back, it was only a few years old itself, it really shouldn't be having problems yet.
It was 8:20, you were daydreaming and drumming on the steerwheel to a made up tune in your head, waiting for your friends to come out already. Smiling as soon as you saw you blonde haired friend Mark, he was always worried about being late to things, he was generally anxious alot either way, but being late was like life or death for him. "Hey buddy! Ready for the day?" He said with his raspy voice, he was the eldest of the group and used to be a singer until his last show that ended in an accident that costed him his voice. It took him years to be able to talk again, the entirety of those years you and your friends worried for him so badly. He fell into a deep state of depression, his deepest passion was gone forever, and he could do nothing about it.
"Course I am bud, how about you? You ready to tell Fry how much you love him?" You smirked, looking at the rear view mirror to look at him. He burst into a fit of embarrassment "Don't say that! He could be here any minute!!" He whisper yelled at you, looking around like Fry would appear out of thin air at any moment. "Fine fine..you gotta tell him at some point Mark." You said, smiling at him after finally turning your head to fully look at him "he's on his way out right now, he just texted me" He nodded, scooting to the seat behind the driver's.
You two only had to wait a minute before Fry was clumsily running out the door, struggling to pull on his coat and walking at the same time. His long red hair falling all over the place, coffee in hand, he really looked like a disaster waiting to happen today. He scooted into the middle back seat next to Mark, already red and embarrassed for how foolish he must've looked.
As soon as they both buckled in, you pulled out immediately. You had to pick up Jamie, Clara, and Anita next, which is absolutely god sent because they were siblings and still lived in the same house.
.
.
.
Arriving at the mall wasn't the easiest thing in the world, no matter how simple it seemed, you and your friends argued for half an hour over which mall to go to and whether to stop for food first or not. In the end, you got some quick fast food and ate on the way to the south mall center and waited in the car till both parties were done eating.
You were already tired, you could feel a headache starting to pull at your head and you wanted to be done and go home already. Your entire body was tired and you couldn't understand why you were so exhausted already, at this point if they just left you in the car to sleep you'd be fine with it.
The triplets were sitting in the back row of seats in your car, all rough housing and making the car shake, fighting over food. You shook your head, you would've said it was to early for this already but it really wasn't with how long they took to pick up. "YOOO WHAT ARE YOU TEXTING YOUR BOYFRIEND???? THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE?" Jamie practically screamed, they really had no sense of an inside voice, and it didn't change that you all were in a car. "NO DUDE SHUT THE FUCK UP YOUR HURTING MY EARS" Clara shoved Jamies face away from her phone, she was always on it, it was like her prop that was glued to her hand. "Was that a rat in the parking lot just now?? Oh nah you aren't getting me out of this car now." Anita, the quietest of the trio, but also the most clean freak of the entire group. She was a neutral hard to hate person, because she was just calm, unless you were dirty then may God have mercy on you.
"Guys, we were supposed to be in the store YESTERDAY. Jesus fuckin' christ man" you passive aggressively told them
.
.
.
You had already been to countless stores, its been hours and if you were exhausted before? Your starting to lay down in the grave now. And the worst part was that they hadn't let you go to a single store you liked yet, and you knew for a fact that you, Fry, Jamie and Moose, wanted to go to the same type of store.
Finally...FINALLY, one of the three spoke up and said they were going to one of the game stores. And just as you guessed it, not only yourself tagged along, the other two did as well. As you and your group walked to the exit, where the game store was at, you all decided it was gonna be the last store you visit for the day as it was already getting dark and the store was closing already.
.
.
.
As you guys all separated inside the large gaming store, filled with anything and everything possibly related to game stuff, from game boards to games to decoration. You knew it would be the shortest trip in the entire store as everything was overly priced and the majority of everyone has spent the most of their money for the day.
Sighing you looked through the games, new, old, demos, it was crazy! They had everything in here. Choosing a few random titles that looked fun and interesting you were nearing the end of the aisle, all the digital games being located in the back corner of the store, it was creepy and poorly lit strangely but to you it was magical. The closer you got to the end of the aisle the more uneasy you felt, the more dirty the floor got and dusty the shelves became. It felt like you were being watched despite no one being near where you were, so finally just speedwalking to the end instead of taking your time and becoming more creeped out.
Then. Something caught your eye, shiny, very shiny. Somehow shining through the cobwebs and dust thats built up over clearly a very very long time, you used one of the cases to wipe it off and looked at it... 'weird...I didn't know they sold dating sims..they really do sell everything I guess' you hummed while looking it over. The characters looked silly and colorful, though it was clearly worn as the colors were fading, the title in jumbled colorful letters spelling "Strings of their hearts" with little glittery hearts surrounding it, those must've been the things that caught your eye. To say you were intrigued would be a bit of an understatement, you slipped it between your other cases of games, not wanting to be teased for getting it.
.
.
.
Dropping your friends off was the most relieving part of your day, as you dropped the triplets off it felt like a pressure had been taken off of your head.
Driving to Mark and Frys residence was the second to last thing left to do today, you looked in your rear view mirror to watch as they both smiled and giggled while talking to eachother, you smiled, they were so happy together and the day they finally tell eachother about their feelings they will be even happier. It is almost a toothrotting sweet thought, you slowed your car into a stop at the curb near their home, you let a breath of relief out as their neighborhood was hard to locate in the dark, even with your headlights on.
It was 10:55 and you still had time to pick fast food up on the way home, you waved to your to friends and your smile widened as you saw they were holding hands as they walked eachother home.
.
.
.
Okay nevermind, the trip to your local Wendy's was already proving to be even more stressful than your mall trip, the lady in front of you yelling at the cashier over a coupon that had been expired for atleast a year. You decided to just walk out and go through the drive thru instead, it was quiet and more peaceful, though the line was long and you were fourth in line you decided to make yourself less bored by trying to see if your radio was still broken, turning it on and turning to a random station that would play at late hours you waited..all that came out was static but you felt like you should wait longer, and then you heard it
... A garbled sound of someone trying to talk through multiple different voices and sounds, you immediately got freaked out and shut it off, 'if Satan wants to take my soul he can do it later when I'm not in a Wendy's drive thru..talk about embarrassing'
.
.
After getting your food and it already being 11:40 you were semi-speeding home, you already didn't like being out this late no matter how much it looked so beautiful. You would keep remembering your dream, as the moon hung overhead, and it didn't help that your neighborhood with very large gaps between houses was filled with trees, it was like a forest. You hated it. It made you feel sick and like you didn't belong there.
Stepping on the gas and slowing down as soon as you got home, you grabbed your paper bag of food and plastic bag filled with games and stuffed animals among other things and raced into your home, not bothering to lock the car until you locked your own houses door. If anyone..anything..was out there it couldn't get you in the safety of your home..right? You didn't spend an arm an a leg getting the best security system in the country for nothing.
.
.
.
You ate your food on the couch while watching more cartoons, but something wouldn't stop biting at your brain. That game, it was dusty, old, and was extremely underpriced, so much so that the employees were slightly agitated on how little you spent at their store. You looked at the bag, and jolted as the case was slightly falling out of the bag, 'weird..I thought it was buried in there??' You were slightly unnerved, but having nothing to do, and not being tired enough to sleep, combined with having finished you food..
You turned the TV off, taking the case and the bag upstairs to your room, throwing the bag to the bed as soon as you entered into your room, locking your door you turned to your PC. You didn't know if it was a download code game or a disk, but it did say it was a PC game, so putting the case on the desk and sitting down while your monitor and pc booted up, you read the back.
"Wow! Thank you so much for getting the game! Your just the most aren't you?
Well, welcome to the neighborhood neighbor! Its so nice to have a new face around here, and a very good looking one at that! And say..I think a few of your new neighbors think that too! Find out who likes you and what happens! You have two months to get a date! Have fun!" With a crayon designed smiley face under it. Though it was weird that they knew you bought the game, maybe it was just an oversight? You turned the case back around, looking at the characters again. They were colorful and some of them were attractive to you but then again you were attracted to the weirdest things, but one of them stood out to you, the yellow skinned puppet with blue styled up hair. He looked like your opposite, calm, charming, he actually had his hair styled unlike you...you started laughing at yourself, of course you would degrade yourself and compare yourself to a Muppet lookalike, it was a very you thing to do.
Shaking your head you opened the case, unlike the outside the inside was black. That was extremely weird for a game case, like..really really weird but you shook it off and popped the disc into the slot on your PC.
The game immediately started booting up, and very catchy music that your positive would be stuck in your head started to play, the screen fading from white to a colorful scene of all the characters on a picnic blanket looking at you, as if inviting you to sit down and join them. So joyful, you already loved it, it seemed you were gonna become obsessed with yet another game again
And this...was going to be a long night.

HOOO BOY THAT TOOK ME AN ENTIRE TO DAY TO WRITE OUT. I'm EXTREMELY sorry that its kinda short, as I've said before I'm very sucky at writing, BUT I'm determined to see this out through the end. My thoughts tend to drift alot and overdetail pointless things like the side characters though they won't really contribute to the story much
SO IM SORRY 😭😭
Im working on the date outfits as I write this, and they are literally turning out better than my writing itself, so you guys will probably enjoy those more than the fic. As I'm going to be making short comics to go with these!
Anyways see you next chapter!

Chapter 3
wc - 0.8k
warnings - mentall illness
~
5:58pm
I think I relate a lot more to TV characters than real life people. When I see the actors completely overdoing it for their role, making the most ridiculous facial expressions and laughing abnormally loud, it always makes me smile. I see myself in that a lot. Since I feel empty like 80% of the time, a lot of my emotions are rehearsed. I cannot count the amount of times I've stood infront of the mirror practicing my happy face, my shocked face, my sad face, etcetera etcetera.
The other 20% of the time my reactions are actually genuine. Like when I tear up every time someone hugs me, or when I laugh everytime Soobin chokes on his food. Stuff like that. Don't misunderstand me - in that 80% of times I still feel things. Being empty and feeling no emotions at all are two different things. You still feel the emotions, you just have absolutely no mental energy to show any kind of a reaction. I'm not saying I'm a sociopath or anything, nothing like that. It's a different kind of detachment. It's kind of like I woke up one day in control of a body foreign to the one I once existed in.
Yes, I technically am the same choi beomgyu that snorted glitter whilst making a birthday card for his brother in nursery, and that spent his weekly allowance buying his mother flowers when he was 8, and that was voted "wildest imagination" by his class when he left primary school. I just... to put it morbidly, I feel like that beomgyu has died and I am now stuck in a life in which I am controlling a corpse, desperately trying to revive the spirit of someone that is no longer even alive.
A bright flash of lightening on the TV show I'm watching pulls me away from my train of thought. Oh shit. How long was I spaced out for this time?
Tonight, me and Soobin are in the living room of our shared flat, binging cartoons on the TV.
yawn !
I shift my gaze away from the TV and towards Soobin, who has his mouth wide open and his eyebrows furrowed as he does a very loud yawn. He looks cute. Like an angry bunny.
"You look like an angry bunny," I say, pairing my taunt with a shit eating grin. He smacks my arm lightly, grinning back.
"Shut up idiot."
I just giggle. I feel drained. I'm in no mindset to spend time with people right now. It's nothing on Soobin. It's just me.
"I think I'm gonna head to bed."
I do a little wave goodbye as I stand up.
"Alright bro, see you in the morning." he responds, waving back.
I think this is why I am closer to Soobin than I've ever been closer to anyone in my life. He accepts everything and questions nothing. Sure, he teases me about a few things, but like - take now for an example - who the hell heads to bed before the sun has even set? Me. It's not common, I know. But I do. But Soobin just doesn't care. He doesn't ask me why, or beg me to stay up a little longer, he just lets me do whatever the hell it is I need to do in that moment. Which of course, is great, because I'm clearly quite erratic.
However, this does come with its downfalls. I can't open up to him because his nonchalant attitude towards life in general just makes it seem like he either doesn't understand me or he simply doesn't care enough to try. It's ridiculous that I feel like that, of course. He clearly cares about me, and he doesn't question anything I do because he cares. I just don't have any energy to fight off that little nagging voice in the back of my head that tells me he's only humouring me because he knows I don't and can't trust anyone else but him, so it all just takes over until I can't breathe and can't think and it's all just easier to bottle it up and never tell anyone anything at all.
Sighing, I enter my room. I let my heavy door shut behind me, the harsh slam slightly alerting me. How the fuck do I always forget it does that?

You weren’t sure exactly when it happened. It surprised you as much as anybody. You just woke up one day to see two pocket sized creatures staring back at you on the pillow. You shrieked and threw yourself from the bed, grabbing the nearest gun you had hidden in your room and pointed at them, “What in the fuck are you?” You stammered out, breathing hard. One was what looked like a small woman dressed in a devil costume, tail and pitchfork included. The other was a small woman dressed in white with a small halo around her head. They honestly looked like cartoon characters of the sort.
“We didn’t mean to scare you.” The one in white said with a small smile, suddenly floating up in the air to float in front of you.
“Yes we did.” The devil looking one said, folding her arms with a wicked smile on her lips as she stayed laying on your pillow.
“Shut up, Lucy!”
“Make me, Mickey.”
You lowered the gun a little, wide eyes flickering between the two, “What the hell is going on?” You breathed out, wondering if you’d lost your mind.
“My apologies. I’m Mickey.” She said with a small curtsy and a smile, “That’s my sister, Lucy. We are your deities.”
“My what?” You ask confused, your brain trying to catch up with the fact that there were two tiny fairy-like people just floating in your room.
“Deities. You know, divine status.” The one named Lucy suddenly floated over and perched itself on your shoulder, “Usually humans don’t get any deities. We are pretty much reserved for gods and such.”
You looked at the small person on your shoulder before reaching a hand and flicking her off, sending her flying before she stopped midair floating and huffed at you, “Then why are you here?”
“We don’t know. We’re just your deities.”
“Well can you not be my deities?” You ask, looking back to the angelic one, “I’m not a god or a divine person so you two can just go back where you came from.”
“No can do, boss lady. You’re stuck with us.”
That is how you were introduced to your two deities. Lucy, the devil on your shoulder and Mickey, the angel on the other. You first had to make sure you weren’t going insane, calling Wanda incessantly until she came into your room with a concerned look on her face to see you pacing around. You had made Lucy and Mickey hide somewhere in the room before Wanda arrived. You paused when Wanda asked you what was wrong and looked at her, “Okay, first you can’t send me to the looney bin because I’m not crazy.” You pause, “Well maybe I am but I don’t want to go to the looney bin.”
Wanda tilts her head at you still with a confused look on her face, “No looney bin, gotcha.” She said slowly, “Now what’s going on?”
You let out a deep breathe before muttering a “come on out.” to the two deities in hiding. They slowly floated up from under the bed and floated towards Wanda who was staring at them with wide, yet confused eyes, “What are those things?”
“I don’t know, Wanda!” You say, “They just were staring at me when I woke up. They say they’re my deities.”
“I’m Mickey!” The one in white beamed, moving closer to Wanda and taking a seat on her right shoulder.
“And I’m Lucy.” The red one huffed out, floating over to Wanda’s right shoulder and kicking Mickey off Wanda’s shoulder.
Wanda stood in silence for a moment just staring at the two deities before smiling slightly, “They’re so cute!” She said before looking back to you, “Can we keep them?”
You groaned. Of course Wanda thought this was cute and not at all weird, “As much as I want to say no, I don’t have a choice. They say they’re stuck with me.” You inform, watching them float back over to you and sit themselves on either of your shoulders.
You figured out that Mickey was the parts of you that wanted to do good, be good. The part that cared and gave helpful advice while Lucy was the complete opposite. She harbored all your temptations and dirty, dark thoughts. The rest of the team figured out your secret eventually. Steve and Sam found you talking to yourself on the couch before seeing them sitting beside you asking all the questions about TV. They thought it was funny and Sam had many jokes about the angel and devil on your shoulders. The worst one was Bucky when he found out. He was a player, always having different girls up in his room almost every day of the week as well as make flirty remarks to you anytime he was in the room and that was before you had the deities. He loved the little devil on your shoulder. It got all worked up when Bucky walked in a room trying to make suggestions towards you about running your fingers through his hair or jumping his bones until your face was hot and you stormed out of the room. Luckily, you eventually figured out that you could give them orders. You once told them to leave you alone and they disappeared into thin air giving you about three hours of peace before they returned.
Now the whole team was out on a mission. Leaving you around with the person you didn’t want to be left alone with. Bucky. You were trying your best to stay away from him, especially when your deities were around. He got you so worked up which only made Lucy get worked up as well. As much as you were trying to stay away from him, there were moments where he managed to track you down. Like this morning when you were walking out of your room to head down to the training room. Bucky was walking down the hall with nothing but a towel on which made you freeze in your tracks as Lucy started fanning herself on your shoulder in a swoon, “Why are you walking on my floor with nothing but a towel on? Your room is upstairs and has it’s own shower, Barnes.” You scowled, folding your arms.
“Ah, c’mon, Y/N! Maybe if you’re nice he’ll accidentally let the towel slip.” Lucy’s words earned a smack from Mickey before she returned her arms crossed as well, mimicking your scowl.
Bucky put that signature panty-dropping grin on and came closer to you, staring down into your eyes as he towered above you, “You know, sweetheart,” He began, making Lucy giggle on your shoulder, “Maybe you should listen to your devil sometime. She’s got all the good ideas.” He finished before walking around you and to the elevator, disappearing through the doors.
“You should’ve kicked him in the shin.”
You and Mickey both look over at Lucy as she floated off your shoulder and in front of you, “What?” You ask.
“He could’ve dropped his towel if you kicked him in the shin. Then we could see the rest of him.”
You scowled at Lucy, “Shut up.” You told her before continuing on your way to the training room. You started with some weight lifting before moving onto punching the bag while Lucy and Mickey sat behind you on the ropes of the boxing ring bickering as they usually did. They both fell oddly silent and when you turned around to check on them, there was Bucky again towering over you inches away, making you jump, “Holy shit!” You gasped out, “You need a fucking bell, Barnes.” You hissed out at him for scaring you.
Bucky clicks his tongue at you, taking a step forward until you backed up against the boxing bag, a smirk growing on his lips as he had you cornered in, “Now, now Y/N. I’m not sure how your angel would feel about that kind of language.”
“I’ll allow it.”
“Mhmm…”
You leaned over to look around him, glaring at your deities before straightening back up and looking back up at him, “What do you want? I thought you were done with training this morning.”
Bucky raises an eyebrow at you, “Keeping track of my schedule, doll?” He asks, reaching out a hand to brush a strand of hair that was stuck to your lip away and tucks it behind your ear.
You scowled at him, crossing your arms across your chest, “As if. Did you forget about the towel thing already?” You sneer out. You couldn’t deny it though, his light touch to your cheek made you blush and a shiver run up your spine. Bucky was hot but to you he was also a walking cesspool from all the women he had flaunting over him. At first you had the biggest crush on him but that quickly turned to slight disgust mixed with your crush. But when he was standing over you like this, lightly sweeping away a strand of hair, your knees felt weak and your breath hitches in your throat.
“Oh I couldn’t forget the face you made when you saw me nearly naked. It was the most beautiful look I’ve ever seen.” Bucky grins down at you, taking another step closer so your bodies were almost touching and he reaches up his arms over your head to rest his hands on top of hanging punching bag, practically cornering you in, “Came to see if you needed any help.”
You stare up into those stupid, pretty blue eyes of his, biting your bottom lip at how close he is. You eventually advert your gaze from his eyes and look around him, anywhere but that hypnotizing stare, “No thanks. I’m just about done.”
“Oh booooo! You two should wrestle. That’d be hot.”
“Lucy!” Mickey began then paused, “Yeah you have a point.”
“So you’re on my side now about tall, dark, and handsome?”
“He may talk like a devil but he looks like an angel.”
Bucky grins, his eyes never leaving yours as he listened to your deities’s conversation, “Hear that, sweetheart? Even your little deities think I’m the best of both worlds.” He leans his face down, closer to yours. He was so close that he could capture your lips in a moment if he wanted to and you wouldn’t be able to do anything to stop him, “You just gotta give me a chance.”
You stared back into his eyes before moving your gaze down to his lips, watching his tongue flicker out and sweep across the bottom one lightly which cause you to let out a jagged breath. You quickly remembered who Bucky was and ducked down under his arms and away from him, “No thanks, Barnes. I’m not going to be just another girl that sneaks out of your room when you’re done.” You say, going over to the bench and picking up your water bottle and making your way out of the training area.
“Who said you’d be just another girl?” Bucky tucks his hands into the pockets of his sweatpants as he watches you go, waving to your deities as they passed him to follow you out, “And who said anything about sneaking out, darlin’? I’d let you stay all night and every night after!” He called out before you slammed the door behind you. What he said was true though, Bucky would give up all the one night stands and flirting with other women if you would just give him a chance. He honestly liked you, almost to the point where the crush had grown into being in love with you. And now that you had a little devil on your shoulder that spoke all your dirty thoughts, he knew you felt some sort of the same way. He hadn’t brought another woman home since Lucy started making remarks and he noticed you would blush and quickly exit a room. He never thought he had a chance with you, thought you disliked him. But now he had a chance.
You made your way to your bedroom, shutting the door behind you and let out a deep breath before touching your cheek where Bucky had swiped some of your hair away. It was like you could still feel his touch and it sent another shiver down your spine.
“Is she okay?” Mickey asks, tilting her head at you as she and Lucy sat on your pillow.
“I think she’s getting all warm and fuzzy.” Lucy snickered.
“Warm and Fuzzy?…. Oh!”
“Shut up.” You groan, tossing your water bottle on the bed before making your way to your bathroom and shutting the door behind you to have some alone time from your deities. You pulled off your sweaty clothes from your body before turning on the shower and stepping into the warm water. You closed your eyes and tilted your head back into the warmth, your mind immediately floating to how good you felt with Bucky so close to you. The way his words rolled off his tongue like velvet. And oh god, the way his tongue danced across his bottom lip as he stared right into your eyes. You quickly shook the thoughts from your head and scrubbed yourself clean of sweat and his touch before turning off the shower and pulling a towel around your body. You brushed out your hair in the bathroom before walking out into your bedroom, freezing when you saw Bucky sprawled across your bed talking to your deities. You gripped the towel tighter around you, your eyes wide, “What are you doing?!”
Bucky looked over to you, tilting his head as he ran his eyes up and down your body that was only covered by a towel, “You saw me in only a towel, figured it’s only fair if I saw you.” He teased, placing his arms behind the back of his head on your pillow with a grin set on his lips, “Better than I could’ve imagined, sweetheart.”
You frown a little at him, picking up a book from your desk and throwing it at him which he caught with ease. Damn super soldier reflexes. You watched Mickey and Lucy slowly float from over on the bed by Bucky to sit on your shoulders, “Well can you please go so I can get dressed?”
Bucky set the book down on your bedside table before sitting up on your bed, keeping eye contact with you with every movement he made, “I’ll go on one condition.” He smirked over at you, licking his lips again.
“I hope that one condition is to join him in the bed. Yum.”
You tilted your head to glare at Lucy who quickly made a motion to zip her lips shut before returning your gaze back to Bucky who was standing from your bed and making his way over to you. You back up until your thighs hit the edge of your desk and he’s towering over you once again, “What do you want?”
“Oh he’s close-close.”
Bucky kept walking towards you until he was almost flush against your body but left a little space between. His blue eyes pierced down into yours, the smirk never wavering from his lips, “Have dinner with me tonight, doll.” He says, reaching up a hand to brush his vibranium knuckles across your cheek, making goosebumps crawl up your skin and your knees almost buckle, “Just you and me.”
“She’s getting warm and fuzzy again.”
“Warm and fuzzy over dinner?”
“She’s probably thinking about dessert.”
You shut your eyes tightly at the words of your deities, why did they have to always speak up on what you were feeling at the most inopportune times. You opened your eyes again when you heard Bucky chuckle at their words, meeting his gaze that had been unmoving from your face, “Fine. Dinner. Just dinner.” You mumble out to him, “Now can you please go so I can get dressed?”
Bucky beams at your response, “A deals a deal.” He replied, but didn’t move away from you. He tilts his head as he gave you another look over, biting his bottom lip and scrunching his nose slightly at the sight before meeting your gaze again, “I’ll be cooking. Meet me in the kitchen at six.” He said before learning in and leaving a gentle kiss on your cheek before turning and leaving your room, shutting the door behind him.
As soon as he left your room, you walked on shaky legs over to your bed and sat on the edge with a groan. Bucky doesn’t do dinner, let alone cook dinner for the women he brings back. He’s usually on one mission when it came to women and that was to get them in and out of his room as quick as possible.
“Is she okay?”
“Shit, I’m not. Did you see him bite his lip? I almost fainted.”
“Yeah that even had me swooning a little bit.”
“I’m surprised her underwear just didn’t fall off right on the spot.”
“She isn’t wearing underwear.”
“Good point.”
“Okay! Time out!” You yell at them, glaring as your eyes flickered between the two deities. They both looked at you before disappearing into thin air, giving you some peace and quiet to process the deal you just made with Bucky. You took a deep breath, “It’s just dinner.” You tell yourself, throwing your towel into the hamper and changing into some jean shorts and your AC/DC tank. You decided it would be best to just avoid Bucky the rest of the day until dinner then you could go back to avoiding him. You tried to read to waste the time but your mind couldn’t stop drifting to the way Bucky kissed your cheek. It was soft, gentle and hesitant as if he was trying to be some sort of gentleman.
“You’ve read the same page six times.”
“I know.” You mutter out. Your deities had returned after an hour of peace and silence, but luckily they were behaving for the most part. You had another hour before you were supposed to meet Bucky in the kitchen.
“She’s thinking about Bucky.”
“Ooohhhh…. Good thinking?”
“Sexy thinking?”
“Is there a difference?”
You groaned and brought the book up to your face, hiding in the pages, “I don’t know what he’s doing. I feel like the mouse in a game of cat and mouse.”
“I’ll be his mouse any day.”
“Well, maybe he actually likes you?”
“I don’t know if he’s capable of liking anybody in that way.”
“He hasn’t brought anybody back to his bedroom since we showed up and I started airing out your dirty laundry.”
You look over at Lucy, “How do you know that?”
“He’s nice to look at. Sometimes I go stare at him.”
“He invited you to dinner. He hasn’t done that with anybody else before.”
“And he’s cooking. Hopefully naked cooking. Or nothing but an apron on, that’ll work.”
“Yeah, I know. Bucky doesn’t do dinner for his flings, let alone cook for them.” You pause for a moment, “Oh my god, is this a date?”
“Seems like a date.”
“You should put on a skimpy dress.”
You frown at Lucy, “What’s wrong with what I’m wearing?”
“Nothing is wrong with what you’re wearing.” Mickey glared over at Lucy, “You wear whatever you’re comfortable in.”
“Thanks, Mickey.” You mumble out, putting the book down on your bedside table.
“I’m just trying to get you laid. Skimpy dresses work.”
You sigh, standing up and looking at yourself in the mirror, “Maybe I should put pants on instead of shorts so he isn’t eye fucking me.”
“Just more layers for him to strip off of you later.”
“I don’t think covering your legs will work. You were wearing leggings and a hoodie in the training room and he was still trying to undress you with his eyes.”
You bite onto your bottom lip as you look at yourself in the mirror. What was it about you that Bucky liked so much to where he was going to make you dinner? Ask you out on a date? Sure, he’s always made flirty comments with you but you thought that was the normal. He’s never made any towards Natasha which you thought was because she’d kill him in a moments notice but then he’s never flirted with Wanda either. You were the only one in the facility he bothered to flirt with and get all worked up. Maybe he did actually like you? And Lucy just confirmed it so now he was headstrong on asking you out?
Eventually the time came and you slowly walked out of your room and made your way to the kitchen, stopping when you see the table had been set with a nice white cloth, some candles, two wine glasses with a bottle of wine, and some bread.
“Definitely a date.” Mickey whispers in your ear.
Bucky turned from the stove to see you, a grin forming across his lips. He was wearing black jeans with a dark blue henley that seemed about two sizes too small on him, “Hey, sweetheart. Dinner’s just about ready.” He said, walking over to the table and pouring some wine into the glasses before walking over to you with one and stretching it out to you, “We are having steak, potatoes, and some salad. I hope that’s okay. You look beautiful by the way.”
You took the wine glass and nod, “That’s fine.” You say back to him before biting your lip. Beautiful in simple jean shorts and a band t-shirt? You couldn’t sense any lying in his voice and he was looking at you with soft, sincere eyes and a smile, “Thanks. You look good too.”
“Oh, steak. And wine. And candles. You know what they say about steak.”
“What?”
“When a guy buys a girl the most expensive thing on the menu, usually they expect at least a blowjob.”
“Oh. That makes no sense. Why does steak equal blowjob?”
“Oh my god.” You say, closing your eyes and pinching the bridge of your nose with your free hand, “You two. Gone. Now.” You hiss out at your deities. Once it was silent for a moment, you opened your eyes to see they had disappeared and Bucky standing there with an amused grin on his lips.
“Just so you know, doll, I don’t expect anything.” Bucky said with a grin down at you, stepping closer and gently placing a hand on your hip, “Just wanted to treat you to a nice evening.”
You bit your lip again, the same shiver running up your back as he touched your hip and you wondered if you knew what he was doing to you. You watched him for a moment before speaking, “James, is this a date?”
Bucky raises an eyebrow at your question, “You don’t have to consider it one. But I sure do.” He told you, “I’ve always wanted to ask you out, Y/N.” He said with a sincere smile before turning away and going back to the table to grab the plates and head to the stove to dish everything up.
The whole time during dinner, Bucky was nothing but a gentleman to you. He didn’t make any snide, seductive remarks. Instead he spent his time telling you about himself, answering any question you asked honestly. He asked you questions about your hobbies, which he already knew mostly everything about. He asked what books you were currently reading. You had never seen this side of Bucky and for a moment you forgot everything about him being an annoying flirt. It wasn’t until dessert that he turned on flirt back on. Bucky pulled out a slice of chocolate cake he must’ve picked up from a bakery and sat beside you, cutting a pice off with his fork before holding the it in front of your face, “Open up, sweetheart.” He told you, that grin returning to his lips.
You give him a look but opened your mouth and took the bite of chocolate cake, smiling a little, “That is so good.” You say after swallowing the bite. You bit your lip for a moment before taking the fork from him, slicing off a piece and holding it in front of him like he did for you, “Open up.” You say with a teasing smile.
Bucky grins but parts his lip, his teeth scraping slightly against the fork as you pulled it from his lips. He chewed a little before swallowing the piece and leaning a little closer to you, “Mmm. That’s the sweetest thing I’ve ever tasted.” He purrs out to you.
You blush slightly at his velvety voice, “Yeah, it’s really sweet. Really good.” You reply slightly stumbling over your words, watching him lean in a little closer to you.
“I could think of something sweeter I’d like to try.” Bucky breathed out to you, his face inches from yours now. He took the fork from your hand and set it down on the table without breaking eye contact before lifting his hand to cup your cheek gently. He didn’t move closer to you though, instead scanning your face as if to ask for you permission.
You bit your bottom lip, able to smell the chocolate on his breath as well as the wine. You stared into his eyes, not moving away from his touch or away from him being so close to you. You swore you could hear your heart pounding in your ears, “Then try it.” You whisper out to him.
Within a second after your words, Bucky’s lips were on yours. It was gentle but bruising. His other hand quickly came to rest on your thigh, sneaking up until he reached your hip. He didn’t stop at one kiss, instead he kept laying sweet kisses on your lips, deepening each one until his tongue traced your bottom lip begging for entrance which you happily parted your lips for. He groaned when his tongue danced with yours, pulling you off your chair in one swift movement and onto his lap to have you straddle his waist.
You pulled away for air, not knowing when your fingers got tangled in his dark hair. You look down at him from where you sat on his lap, taking deep breathes as his eyes met yours. His hands were gripping onto your waist and he was licking his bottom lip as if to taste any remnants of your lips.
“Been thinkin’ about doin’ that forever, doll.” Bucky groaned up to you, “First time I saw you… I couldn’t stop thinkin’ about making you my girl.”
“Me too. That was hot.” Lucy said, sitting on the top of the counter with Mickey at her side.
You blushed and hid your face into Bucky’s shoulder at your deities’s words.
“Don’t stop on our account. We are just here for the show.”
“What show?”
“The show of them having hot sex on the table.”
“I don’t think we should watch that show.”
You lift your head to look over at your deities with a glare, “Go away. There will be no hot sex on the table.” You hissed out at them before watching them disappear again. You look back to Bucky who was staring up at you with an amused grin, “I meant that.”
“No sex on the table?” Bucky chuckles out, pulling your hips against his making a small gasp escape your lips, “That’s fine, darlin’. We can start in the bedroom and work our way out here.”

For a price, anyone could check into a seedy motel, even three people covered in blood, guts, and grime, no questions asked, especially with the ashes of Raccoon City still cooling 100 miles away. So the horizon still held a faint glow of destruction when Leon and Claire stumbled, barely conscious, through the front door of the Tadpole motel at 2 PM October 1st, using each other as support and Sherry clinging to Leon’s back like a koala if a koala drooled and snored.
Two other motels along the highway turned the odd couple away, rumours already flying about Raccoon City, zombies, and a nuclear cover-up. But at the right price, triple the going rate, Claire managed to convince the manager to let them bunk down, courtesy of Leon’s stressed credit card.
The fact Leon’s credit card worked, or that he even still had his credit card, was a miracle. His wallet hadn’t exactly been a priority, and honestly, they could sleep in a cockroach-infested basement, and Leon would be happy because they were dead on their feet after hiking on foot what Leon estimated to be a good 30 miles of rough terrain to get to the nearest town. The sun barely peeked over the horizon when the sky behind them exploded.
Raccoon City was gone. The people Leon had sworn to defend were gone. Sherry and Claire were all he managed to protect, and he’d be damned if he failed now.
The motel room wasn’t terrible; two double beds, a small tube TV, and a leaky faucet. It wasn’t good, but it wasn’t something out of a horrible nightmare. They’d left that behind them.
“I’m glad we don’t have a blacklight,” Claire joked, but her tone fell flat.
Leon nudged the bed farthest from the door suspiciously with his boot, dragged back the yellow duvet, and inspected the mattress before he lay Sherry down and tucked her in. He even let Claire shower first, insisted, while he watched Sherry sleep, tossing and turning and whimpering from reliving the horrors in her dreams until Claire emerged from the bathroom, hair still damp, and crawled into bed beside Sherry.
By the time Leon scrubbed his skin raw, the water was cold, and Claire had passed out cold with Sherry cuddled up beside her, little hand tangled in the front of Claire’s dirty tank top like a lifeline. Leon passed out face first on the other bed. He couldn’t even muster the energy to get under the covers.
Movement woke Leon. He jolted awake, reaching for his gun on the bedside table, only to find Claire, fully dressed, perched on the end of his bed and tugging one of her boots. She smiled sadly at the gun levelled at her head.
Leon lowered Matilda, gasping for air. His arm fell limply to his side. “Claire?”
“Hey.” Claire pulled on her second boot. “Sorry.”
Leon blinked at the sleep crusting his eyes. “What... what are you doing?”
Claire sighed and set her foot back down solidly on the ground, hands grasping her thighs. “I need to find Chris. I need... I need to know he’s okay.”
“Now?” Leon glanced at the clock. The bright red numbers read 7:46. The setting sun outside glowed faintly behind the curtains.
“If you ever need me...”
“Forget me. What about Sherry?” Leon snapped, somewhat mollified when Claire winced.
“I know you’ll take good care of her.” Claire’s attention briefly snapped to the sleeping 12-year-old that had survived literal hell. “Leon... if I didn’t have to.”
“Yeah. Yeah, whatever,” Leon scoffed, then rolled over. His heart thundered in his chest. He heard Claire briefly wake up Sherry to say goodbye, promising they’d be in touch, that if Sherry ever needed her, all she needed to do was call.
The door creaked open. Leon clenched his eyes shut, willing down the panic swelling in his chest until it ached. This was it. He was all Sherry had left. They were on their own.
“Take care of our girl for me.” Claire’s voice was barely a whisper.
Leon’s hands trembled, buried in the sheets and pillows, he struggled to suck down air, and his hearing fuzzed. Claire was gone.
For hours, Leon faded in and out of consciousness, barely able to keep the crush of dread at bay. Finally, at some point around 3 AM, he gave up all pretense to sleep and kept a vigilant guard. He jumped at a car alarm, tensed at the slam of a door, and clenched Matilda tightly when soft footfalls passed their door. Eventually, Sherry climbed into his bed to watch early morning cartoons with him.
“Is Claire going to be okay?” Sherry asked softly. She hugged Leon’s arm, cuddling into his side like he used to with his grandma.
“Yeah. Don’t worry about her,” Leon said. He slumped to the side, gently resting his head on top of Sherry’s. “She’ll be fine, kiddo.”
When the sun rose, Leon and Sherry trekked down to the front office to extend their stay another night, then hiked into town searching for clothes and sustenance. Being out in public, surrounded by people, set both Leon and Sherry on edge. They jumped at the slightest sound, and Sherry refused to release Leon’s hand for anything less than going to the bathroom, and even then, he had to stand guard outside the stall. Thank god he had pissed before they left the motel because Sherry was clinging to the back of his jacket while he tried seemed ridiculous.
Their shopping trip was quick. They grabbed what they could, Sherry setting a brisk pace through the little thrift store they found, dragging Leon from rack to rack. They scrounged up a few changes of clothes, socks, underwear, which Leon was a little uncertain of, a jacket that fits over his side holster since he had a license to carry, and a backpack that they filled with snacks and a deck of cards from a little corner store. It turns out Leon’s palette was similar to a twelve-year-old.
The tenuous credit limit finally crapped out on Leon when he tried to buy a six-pack at a shady liquor store on the way back to the motel.
“No job. No money. Just great,” Leon sighed.
For the rest of the day, they holed up in their room munching on junk food, watching terrible daytime TV, and playing Go Fish until Leon made the brilliant decision to teach Sherry how to play poker, and she fleeced him for all the Cheetos.
Leon had no plan beyond survive, and he hadn’t even planned for that. His body ached from being tossed by mutated monsters and shot. His wrapped shoulder twinged.
“Shit,” Leon cursed and clutched his wound. They needed help. He needed help. Taking care of a kid without any resources would be impossible; never mind, he’d never taken care of a person in his life. He had no siblings, no parents. His grandma died when he was nine.
Leon smiled at Sherry in reassurance when she questioned him. This little girl couldn’t be another statistic of the system. He could fix that. He would fix that.
Covered in orange Cheeto dust, Sherry crashed around 8 in the evening. The glow of the sun behind the curtain reminded Leon of the mushroom cloud that had enveloped the sky 36 hours ago. Leon’s stomach twisted in knots. Every creak, every thump, every squeaky break, Leon tensed, waiting for something to crash through the door and disrupt the precarious peace.
Leon hunkered down on his bed, the one closest to the door and any potential threat that came for them, and prepared for another sleepless night on edge.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Around one in the morning, his eyes beginning to droop, Leon nearly fell off the bed in his mad scramble for his gun when someone knocked heavily on the door. Checking his clip, Leon cautiously crept to the door, motioning for now very awake Sherry to stay out of sight.
“Who is it,” Leon called.
“Hi. Look, I’m sorry to bother you. My name is Chris Redfield. I’m looking for my sister Claire.”
Leon blinked and glanced back at Sherry, whose head had popped out of the blanket at the sound of Claire’s name. Then, double-checking he had bolted the chain, Leon opened the door a crack to peek out.
A man a little taller than Leon stood under the flickering light outside the door, his hair cut short and a 5 o’clock shadow. Chris Redfield, decorated member of the Racoon City Stars Division. Leon recognized him from the old photo Claire had shown him, but also the records he’d run across during his frantic hunt through the Police Department.
“Chris?” Leon said, astonished it was actually him. He slammed the door, unbolted the chain, and flung the door open again. “What the- Claire’s looking for you. What are you doing here?”
Chris, who eyed the gun uncertainly, brightened at the mention of his sister. “Is she here? The manager at the front recognized her. Said she was here with some guy and a kid.” Chris glanced past Leon into the room to Sherry curled up in the other bed peering out with curious fear from under the blankets.
Leon shook his head, eyes scanning the parking lot. “She’s not here. She left this morning to find you.”
“Fuck.” Chris winced and glanced at Sherry again. “Shit, sorry.”
Sherry giggled into her hands, and Leon rolled his eyes. “I think she’s dealt with worse.” Like the apocalypse.
“But she’s okay. She’s alive?” Chris asked.
“Who? Claire? Yeah. Yeah, she’s fine. Saved my ass more than a few times.” Leon smiled wistfully and then frowned. So Claire had left, and now, here, her brother was trying to track her down. It must be nice to have someone that gave a damn about you.
“Oh, thank god.” Then, finally, all the tension and stiffness in Chris’ posture melted. “I got her message, and...”
Leon scanned the dark parking lot again for any sign of life, then gestured into the motel room. “You should come in.”
“No.” Chris waved off the invitation. “No, I need to find her.” But the fatigue in his voice threatened to topple him, and that would definitely fell Leon if he tried to catch him.
“Dude, you’re dead on your feet,” Leon said. “It’s the middle of the night. Crash for a few hours.”
“Yeah!” Sherry chimed in, bouncing on her bed. “Stay!”
Chris shook his head. “I can’t.”
Leon pursed his lips. “Look, I don’t know you, man. But I do know that if you pass out behind the wheel and wrap yourself around a pole, you’re pretty damn useless to her.”
Chris opened his mouth to argue, and Leon sighed, tilting his head to the side, ready to give up when Chris snapped his mouth closed and cleared his throat. He studied Leon closely, scrutinizing him like he would a suspect, but Chris must have been satisfied with what he found - weakness, terror, immaturity - because he finally said, “just a few hours.” And the anxiety squeezing the life out of Leon eased, just a tiny bit. Enough that he could breathe.
Chris excused himself to run and grab his go-bag, and Leon cursed his stupidity because nothing was stopping Chris from running. That tightness immediately returned, but a few minutes later, another sharp knock sounded at the door.
Leon smiled tiredly and welcomed Chris into the room, relieved to have the company, someone who knew what they were doing; an adult. Leon grew up fast, but he’d never been an adult in his life. Racoon City was supposed to be a fresh start, and now, he was back to square one. Not even. He was in the basement of square one—the root cellar.
Leon finally caught a good look at Sherry with the lights on, still covered in orange dust, her fingers and cheeks stained. “Jesus. Did you eat the Cheetos or roll in them?”
Sherry laughed. “Leon taught me to play poker, and then I won all the cheezies,” she said to Chris, who grinned.
“Nice job.” Chris offered her a high-five, which she eagerly accepted. The hero worship was already forming.
“He gets a little wrinkle right here when he lies,” Sherry said, pointing a small finger between her eyebrows.
“Okay,” Leon said, scooping Sherry off the bed and carrying her off under one arm. “Let’s get you cleaned up and back in bed, munchkin.”
Cheeto dust proved a formidable adversary, but they managed. When they walked back into the room, Chris was standing exactly where they had left him, his bag still slung over his shoulder and his boots laced.
Getting Sherry tucked back into bed became a struggle now that the brand new company hyped her up; no hesitation whatsoever. She liked Chris. She even made Chris put her to bed, Leon faking offence at being disregarded for the new guy, but there was something about seeing a six-foot boulder of a man coax a tiny twelve-year-old back to sleep that made Leon’s chest ache. Especially when Chris told the story of how Claire was convinced that if she left fake teeth under her pillow, she could trick the tooth fairy into giving her more money. It never worked. The tooth fairy left chocolate coins instead. Fake money for a fake tooth.
Leon watched perched on the edge of the other bed, a little envious of Chris’ skill with kids. He double-checked the safety on his handgun, then the clip. Chris eyed Leon as he set his weapon back down on the bedside table, and Leon couldn’t muster the energy to be self-conscious about his paranoia.
Chris may be Claire’s sister and a fellow survivor of Raccoon City, but Leon didn’t actually know him. For all he knew, he was a traitor like Irons or Wesker. Maybe he wasn’t the man Claire believed him to be. What the hell had he been thinking? Inviting a stranger to stay with them?
With Sherry asleep again, Leon and Chris were left to settle in for the remainder of the night. For Chris, that meant shedding his bulky jacket and combat boots.
“It’s Leon, right?” Chris said. He stood awkwardly beside the bed, watching Leon click off the light and climb under the blankets, tucking himself up against the edge of the mattress as close as he possibly could without toppling off. “Claire mentioned you in one of her messages.”
Leon almost facepalmed. He hadn’t introduced himself. He really was doing everything backwards. “Yeah. That’s me. Leon S. Kennedy.” He curled up into a small ball.
“Jesus Christ.” Chris swiped his palm across his mouth. “You’re the new rookie.”
Leon chuckled humourlessly, his hands tightening into fists around the sheets pulled up to his neck. “Was a hell of a first day.”
Chris picked up real quick that Leon didn’t want to talk about it. So instead, he climbed into his side of the bed, the one closest to the door. The mattress dipped under his weight, and Leon tensed. Where else would Chris have slept? The floor? The last person Leon shared a bed with was his ex, who had seemingly saved his life. If she hadn’t broken up with him, if he hadn’t gotten drunk, if he hadn’t slept in hungover as hell, he would have arrived right in the middle of the initial panic, and who knows if he would have survived that. No one else in the department had.
What would it have been like? The screams, the moans, the pleas for help- the sounds still played on repeat in Leon’s head. Lieutenant Marvin Branagh, mouth agape, stumbling towards him with his hands out. Leon had put two bullets between his eyes.
The first indications of a panic attack slammed into Leon. Abruptly, his throat closed. He couldn’t breathe, his vision slid out of focus, and his chest compressed. Like someone reached into his chest and squeezed his heart in a vice. His entire body shook.
Suddenly, a warm voice murmured in his ear, the soothing tone talking him down, calming him. Leon wasn’t alone. He wasn’t trapped in the police station battling endless waves of the undead, the people of Raccoon City he’d taken an oath to serve and protect.
“Leon, kid, you need to breathe,” Chris said. His presence was a solid wall behind Leon. “I’m going to touch you, okay?”
Leon focused on Chris’ voice. His vision began to swim back into focus, his hearing rushed back in a sudden wall of familiar night noises like the drip of the faucet in the bathroom or the lonely car that passed on the highway. He nodded, not fully understanding what Chris was saying. An arm slid around his waist and pulled him back into a firm chest. Leon flailed, seconds from panic again when Chris’ voice rumbled in his ear.
“You’re going to be okay. I got you.”
Leon grasped Chris’ arm, his grip probably tight enough to leave bruises, and he choked on a shuddering sob.
“It’s okay, Leon. You’re going to be okay.”
Gasping for air, Leon rolled over and buried his face in Chris’ chest, and Chris let him. Leon’s sobs were muffled in Chris’ arms, not wanting to disturb Sherry in the next bed. He felt every subtle muscle flex when Chris tightened his grip or shifted them into a more comfortable position. That’s how Leon passed out, wrapped in the reassuring embrace of a complete stranger, one who understood the hell he’d lived through and the fear and uncertainty he felt in his soul.
Morning came quickly. Leon woke up still curled into Chris’ chest with a death grip on the other man’s faded t-shirt. Chris’ nose was buried in Leon’s hair, each soft snore ruffling his hair, but his embrace hadn’t lessened overnight.
The warmth of embarrassment burning, Leon snuck out of bed, anxiously loosening Chris’ hold and dashing for the safety and solitude of the bathroom, horrified at his complete lack of control the night before. No one had held him like that before, at least not since he was a child and his grandma would sit up with him after a nightmare. But, sadly, this was another type of nightmare, a waking one.
When Leon finally mustered the courage to wander back into the room, Chris was up, sitting on the edge of the bed with his elbows on his knees.
“You okay?” Chris asked the same time Leon burst out, “I’m sorry!”
Chris sighed. “You didn’t do anything wrong. When I showed up on your doorstep last night, I saw right away that you were barely holding it together.”
Leon’s fists clenched at his side. He couldn’t meet Chris’ gentle gaze.
Chris crossed the room in two enormous strides and considerately grasped Leon by the shoulders. “It was the shock finally hitting you. It happened to me too, but I was alone,” Chris admitted. “Hey. Hey, come on. Look at me.”
Leon bit his lower lip, but he slowly looked up, eyes stinging. “I don’t know what to do.”
Telegraphing his movements, Chris gently pulled Leon into a tight hug. “You’re not alone. We’re going to do this together. I want to take Umbrella down, but first, I wanna make sure you’re okay.”
Leon jerked back so fast Chris stumbled. “I want to help. I want to make those sons of bitches pay.”
Chris smiled. “Good. But first, I have a safe house.”
Together, they set the plans. Leon and Sherry would meet Chris in two days, hopefully with Claire in tow, at Chris’ new safehouse three states over. Sherry and Leon could catch a bus a couple miles down the highway to get them most of the way. The trick would be getting up the mountain to the cabin. But they were in this together. Hope simmered once again.
Armed with a freshly drawn map on motel stationery, Leon watched Chris pack. Umbrella wouldn’t know what hit them.
“Here. Take it.”Chris handed Leon two rumpled twenties, a five, and a few ones he dug out of his wallet. “It’s all the cash I have on me, but it should be enough to get you there. I’ll drop you off-”
“No.” Leon took the cash, but waved off Chris’ offer to give him and Sherry a lift to the bus station. “It’s in the opposite direction. We’ll be fine.”
“Two days,” Chris promised. Sherry had climbed out of bed and now clung to Chris’ arm as if he couldn’t leave as long as she was attached. He ruffled her hair. “With or without Claire, I’ll be there and we’ll go from there.” Chris grabbed Leon by the back of the neck and dragged him into a gruff hug, their foreheads lightly pressed together. “It’s gonna be okay, kid.”
And Leon believed him. That is, until two hours later when an unmarked vehicle pulled up on Leon and Sherry hiking down the side of the road, hand in hand. They never made it to the rendezvous.

Your feet drag you out of your apartment the second the words left Peter’s mouth. He had called you and explained to you what happened. Your purse over your shoulder, car keys in one hand and phone shaking in the other.
“What do you mean?” You ask, trying to comprehend. Hot tears fill your eyes the second you hear his words for a second time through the speaker.
“She was in an accident, Y/N. They called her parents already and they’re on their way. I’m with Ned, he’s driving. Just, be safe a-” You couldn’t even listen to him anymore. Your vision turns blurry as sobs escape your lips. Peter sighs and tries to get your attention as he repeats calling your name.
“Y/N! I’m on my way to yours, we’ll drive together.” he says before hanging up and leaving you in the silence of your room. You only nod and lower your phone as you stare ahead of you, remembering what happened only a day ago.
The grin on her face disappears the moment she registered what you said. Your eyes turned glossy and you looked down, trying to hide the fact that you were about to cry.
“What? What did you say?” She came closer to you, in an attempt to take your hand and lock your fingers. You stepped back, back hitting the door behind you and pulling your hand back.
“Mj, you heard me…,” She shakes her head, muttering “no, no..” until she looked up to you again and the tears started spilling out her eyes. You only nod, not being able to drag out any words. You didn’t want to do this, and she knew. But you had to, after what Tony told you, that’s what she didn’t know.
Tony had told you about his job, and about the many times Pepper was in danger because of him. It started off as a normal conversation between him and you. He was just trying to warn you of the dangers of your new job as an almost-avenger.
You had gotten your powers after being bitten by a spider, the same way Peter got his. The only difference: you were better at keeping secrets. That’s why it took Tony almost six months longer to recruit you, after he recruited Peter.
Since Mj didn’t know why you were doing this, she kept asking you why. Pulling you in, but you resisting. Her hands reach to you, only for you to step back, again.
“I promise you, I don’t- I don’t want to do this, Mj. I just,” you looked up and let out a shaky breath,”I’m so, so scared! Please, just understand.” Were the words you let out before turning around, stepping out of her cozy home and walking home.
You weren’t going to forget this night.
And you didn’t. Oh, how much you wish to have stayed and hold her in your arms, telling her that everything was going to be okay and you weren’t going to leave, never.
Instead, you are waiting in front of your front door step for Peter and Ned to pick you up and drive you to the hospital, in which your now ex-girlfriend lay.
You don’t even notice them pulling up after seven minutes of waiting, until a black car honks and pulls you out of your crying state. The window rolls down and Ned waves at you. You quickly get up and sit in the backseat, taking out your phone and scrolling through the messages you got earlier today.
You had tossed your phone against the wall when you came home yesterday and ignored every call and message you got, most of them from Mj, which you now regret more than ever.
Mj 🌺
y didn’t u pick up?
look ik you probably don’t want to talk but at least give me a reason??!
hellooo?
A couple more of her asking for reasons and demanding to know why, two messages from Ned and the last one from Peter, telling you to drive to the hospital. You sniffle, tears threatening to leave your eyes, again, and look out the window at the houses and trees melting away as the car passes them. It was still morning, which is why it was dark. Why was she out this late?, you asked yourself and look at her messages again. She sent her last one at two am.
Mj 🌺
u can’t just do this and leave?
yk what? i’m gonna find out myself
A gasp left your mouth as more tears slipped past your eyes. She was on her way to yours to find out why you broke up. She tried to find out why you ignored her calls and texts and didn’t want to be with her anymore.
“Ned?” You ask quietly when he stops the car in front of the hospital. Peter gets out and opens your door, taking your hand and helping you out. Ned steps out, too, and makes his way to the registration.
“I’m sure she’s fine, they-” before Peter could finish, you jog after Ned and stand next to him. An old lady, hair pulled back in a tight bun, wearing a white coat and tired smile sits in front of you. She glances up at you and then back at the computer screen in front of her.
“We’re here for Mj, she came in an hour ago-” The woman cuts off Peter as she nods.
“You three are related to her in what way?” She wants to know. Ned opens his mouth but shuts it when you’re about to interrupt him.
“Her brother,” you lie and motion with your hand to Ned and back at you. “And I’m her girlfriend.” She looks sceptical at first, as if she knows you’re lying. Then, glancing back at the screen and you, she gives you the floor and room number.
You instantly turn around and make your way to the elevator, the two boys behind you thanking the woman silently and following along with you.
You step out the lift and look at the long, empty hallway in front of you. On each side were big, grey painted doors with small windows. The hallway is empty, except for two nurses who sat behind the reception. There were paintings by kids hung up on the white walls and a long, white lamp luminating the corridor in low lights.
“Number 305, 305, 305,...” you murmur as you make your way past the doors on your right. Peter darts from door to door on your left, whilst Ned is following you and takes a double-look, as you seem to skip over them hastily.
“Guys, guys!” Peter hurries you to the closed door before him and peaks through the small window. You take a sharp intake of breath and grab the door handle swiftly, but you stop yourself.
“Wha- why did you stop?” Ned wonders out loud.
“I think I’m the least person she wants to see right now,” you say through glossy eyes and biteyour bottom lip. Peter scoffs.
“Dude, she wanted to see you. She’s been asking about you non-stop yesterday. The least you could do is go in and be the first one she sees,” he demands and slowly pushes the door open, “and explain,” he narrows his eyes at you and pushes you in, closing the door quietly after stepping in with Ned.
Walking in, you plant your feet at the end of her bed. There was a food try on a small table next to her, with a bouquet of flowers and a small card. You couldn’t make out much of what it read, except for a “get well <3”, which you assume must’ve been from Betty. It resembled her handwriting.
An IV connected to her left arm, that was draped over a white, thin blanket with black spots. The lights were low, but the wide and tall window let in an excessive amount of light, as it was getting brighter outside. The second patient bed in the room was empty and tidied, and the privacy curtains were on one side. The TV next to her head was turned on, silently playing some cartoon she must’ve watched before falling asleep. The room smelled like lemon-cleaner, which made Ned hold his nose before he got used to the new smell.
Her head was draped to one side and her eyes shut. There was a white band around her head and you could see that her hair was a little shorter; They must’ve cut it to attend her wounds, you think. That thought alone made your eyes turn wet again and step away from her. Peter shoves you back to the bed and motions to the girl laying on the bed.
“I can’t, she probably hates me now,” you shake your head as tears threaten to spill again and your hand goes straight to your chest, fisting the fabric on it.
“Y/N, you can’t ju-” There was movement on the bed, which made Ned stop talking. Mj moved her head, slowly opening her eyes. She looks around the room before her eyes settle on you three.
“Wha-” Her voice comes out harsh and croaked. Coughing, she goes on, “What the fuck.”
Ned stifles a laugh but goes back to serious when Peter glares at him. Your friend on the bed moved up again. Peter nudges your shoulder, signaling for you to go and help her. With wide eyes, you stare at him, arguing with your eyes to stay back.
“Wait- Y/N, go help her. I’ll tell the nurse she woke up,” Peter demands as he leaves the room, without sparing you a last glance. Ned leaves with him, silently apologizing and wishing you luck.
You walk to the small TV first, turning it off and moving it away from the bed and replacing it with a chair to sit on. You take the remote next to her bed and push the button for the bed to lift and make it easier for her to sit. She grabs the blanket tight in her fist and lifts her body up to sit straight, you help her and adjust the grey pillow behind her back.
“Uhm, hi,” you whisper, looking anywhere but her face as you sit down. She was confused, a frown sitting on her lips and her eyes squinted at your figure. You didn’t want to face her so soon, even less in such a situation.
“I’m- I’m sorry, I don’t really know what to do and,” you sniffle,, letting out a sigh, your face hiding behind your hands as you rub your temple. “I came to- to see you and ask how you are?” It sounds more like a question leaving lips. You didn’t know how to start the conversation.
“What?” A small laugh leaves her lips, which calms you down. Her laugh and giggles always help you through difficult times and make you feel a kind calmness you only experience with her. She doesn’t seem mad, you think before mentally slapping yourself- she had just woken up from surgery after getting into a car crash because you wouldn’t tell her the truth.
“How do you feel?” You wonder. “Do you remember anything that happened?” She nods and looks down at her hands.
“No, no. This is going so fast. You- you broke up with me, for no reason, and now you’re here saying you’re sorry?” She searched for an answer. Her eyes were boring into you, waiting for a valid answer. She had every right to know, but it was complicated for you to explain.
“I’m-” The door opens and Peter walks in.
“The doctor’s gonna come in to check,” he comments as he sits down on the chair next to the small blue table. Taking out his phone and unblocking it, he starts mindlessly scrolling through it, ignoring you and Mj in front of him.
“Uhm, Pete?” You cough and tilt your head to the side, signaling for him that you weren’t done talking.
“What- Oh,” he whispered as he got up again. “How do you feel?” He walks up to the bed and looks at Mj. She glances at you and back at him, pursing her lips before talking.
“My head kinda hurts, my ribs hurt when I breathe, I can’t sit straight and my girlfriend broke up with me. I feel excellent!” She replies, sarcasm dripping off her voice.
That 's Mj for you. Sarcasm is what gets her through the day, there's not one situation in which she stayed serious. The day she asked you out, she reminded you of how obvious it was that you had a crush on her and that you’re not really good at hiding your flustered state everytime she catches you staring at her in class. Spending more time with her after your first date just proved it for you even further.
Peter lets out a breath and looks at you. “Should I-?” He points to the door and gives it a look. You nod and put your lips into a thin line as he leaves the room slowly, apologizing and closing it quietly.
“I’m so fucking sorry. I shouldn’t have done that yesterday. It’s just,” you stop yourself and breath in slowly, stopping yourself from exposing your secret. She doesn’t know about your alter ego. All the times you wanted to tell her, you were too scared she’ll be mad you didn’t tell her sooner or ask why you lied about doing homework and went patrolling instead, facing any danger there was out there waiting for you as if it was nothing.
You were already scared something would happen to her because you told her your secret. And now? Now, she lay in a hospital bed in front of you, with broken ribs and a head wound, because you didn’t tell her about your secret.
“What? What were you gonna say?” She presses. You lean back on the chair, hugging yourself as you stare into her beautiful brown eyes.
“Will you promise to not tell anyone?” You ask, already scared of her reaction.
“Tell anyone what?” She frowns. “If you’re gonna tell me that you lo-”
“I’m Capes,” you blurt out before she can finish her sentence. To your defense, you already knew what she was going to say. Letting her finish would just drag this out longer.
“Capes?” She asks again. You nod and lean forward. Tony picked the name for you. It was simple yet mysterious. Most people think of somebody wearing a cape, who can fly, and is strong. Yes, someone like Superman. This was your disguise: making people think of your abilities as something completely else and not letting them know. This way, they could assume all they want, and never find out your true abilities.
“So, you’re...an avenger?”
“No, well yes, but actually no,” you shake your head and go on,” I fight with P- uh Spider-Man, but we do talk with the avengers and meet them,” you explain.
“And what exactly does this have to do with our relationship? I might have skipped something, but, why did you break up? Because you’re a superhero?”
“Yeah, that’s the whole point.” You shyly smile at her.
“Tony told me about the danger Pepper was in and-”
“Tony Stark?” Her eyes go wide as she clutches the blanket on her stronger. You nod, again.
“Yes, Tony Stark. The internship, remember?” You remind her. You had told her about having an internship with Peter at Stark’s. She supported you through it, always motivating you to do better. She nods and lets you continue.
“Tony told me about the danger Pepper, his wife, had and still has to go through. With the world knowing he’s Iron Man and who he’s married to, they could take her any time or do something to hurt him. I- I didn’t want this to happen to us. It reminded me of you,” you whisper.
“But I guess me not telling you and lying just got you in more danger.” You let out a breathy sad laugh. Her eyes soften when she understands.
Her hand rests limp by her side. You dared to take it and lace your fingers with hers. She glances down to them and back up to you, squeezing your hand lightly and sending you a light smile.
“I- I never knew…” “How? I never told you. I don’t want you to feel bad, it wasn’t your fault. I lied to you. All the times I stayed over at the library? I was on patrol. That one time I told you I was sick? Tony had called me in to try on a new suit. I’m sorry,” you apologize, looking at her with sad eyes.
“I know it wasn’t my fault. It’s just...I never would’ve thought you were the one fighting alongside Peter or that you actually went and saved a little girl and her cat from a fire, instead of arriving to our date on time.”
“Yeah, I know and-” You stop yourself. “What? Peter? What, no,” you laugh nervously, shaking your head repeatedly. How does she know?
“Don’t worry, it didn’t take me that long to find out. At first, I thought you were cheating everytime you and him left at the same time or skipped class together. It hurt, you know? But, after being sceptical for a long time I had enough.” You frown, a pang in your chest at the thought of her thinking you were cheating. You would never, she meant anything to you. Never in a million years would you think about trading her as if she was nothing just for something like a hookup.
“I followed you once and you ran into this, really dark and smelly alley, with Peter behind you,” she whispers. Your heart breaks. “Em, I’d never. I promise, you mean so much to me and I’d never trade what we have for anything else. I regret this so much. I’m so, so fucking sorry. Please,” you whisper and shuffle your chair closer to the bed. Your left hand rests against her cheek, wiping the tear escaping her eyes.
“Are you- Are you still mad?” You ask. “You have every right to be mad, I’m sorry. But I told you my secret and I have to know if you don’t tell anyone because even if we stay apart now, you’d still be in danger if people found out we dated,” you rant and look behind her out the window to calm down.
“Shut up,” she whispers as she comes closer to you, and you scoot closer, too, making it easier for her.
“What do-” She pulls you closer, resting her forehead against yours and breathes in. “I said, shut up,” she murmurs against your lips and pulls you in, pressing her lips against yours and grabs the back of your neck. Your eyes open wide with surprise before flattering close slowly, getting used to the kiss.
She pulls you closer by the neck, her soft lips moving against yours smoothly. You can hear your heartbeat thud with excitement in your own ears. This wasn’t the first time she had kissed you, but you still need to get used to her lips pressed against yours. Your noses bumps against each other, making you pull away awkwardly and look at her rosy cheeks
“Oh.” You turn around to look at the door, Peter and Ned standing there.
“I think this means you guys are good?” You turn back to look at Mj, her loving eyes already staring back at you. You quickly look down, flustered under her gaze.
“Yeah,” you respond and squeeze her hand three times. It was your secret way of saying ‘I love you’ before you came out to the others and were left to say goodbye in front of them.
Peter and Ned sat down on a chair and high fived each other, happy for their two best friends being back together. She looks at you. “Does Ned know?” She whispers your way, only you can hear her. You are taken by surprise. You didn’t expect her to mention your secrets in front of him. “Yeah, he does.”
“By the way, Peter,” She starts. He lifts his head and looks back at her, nodding. “How was it being recruited by Iron Man himself? Fought alongside Thor, yet?” She winks at him. He blushes and snaps his eyes to you, asking why she knows.
“I didn’t tell her:” You shrug and look back at her. “She’s just smart, y’know,” you add.
“Dude!”

Blushing in His Colours, Chapter 6
Tumblr media
Mia had a day off and she was currently pacing back and fore outside of Loki’s room.
They’d been on another date the other night, Loki took her to the cinema and out for dinner. It had been wonderful, she enjoyed spending time with him so much.
But she was now toying with the idea of whether to bother him or not. Unsure if he was busy or wanted some down time alone…
‘Come on, Mia. Just knock. The worst he can do is say no.’ She muttered to herself as she stopped and raised her hand up to his door, but she paused.
Chickening out, she withdrew her hand and sighed. She was about to leave, when the door opened and Loki appeared, grinning. ‘Hello, darling. I thought I heard someone out here.’
‘Hi…’ Mia looked sheepish at being caught. ‘I uhm… Just wanted to say morning.’ She said quickly.
Loki raised an eyebrow, seeing right through her as she turned quickly and started walking away.
‘Mia.’ He said firmly, stopping her in her tracks. ‘Come here.’
Unable to ignore his firm tone, she slowly turned back around and walked over to him. Loki reached out when she got to him and he cupped her chin. ‘What is it, sweetling?’
‘I… I was wondering… I mean, if you’re not busy or wanting alone time… If I could maybe spend the day with you? Only if you want to. I’
Loki slipped a finger up to her lips, quietening her with a smile. ‘Of course I want to, Mia. You don’t even have to ask to spend time with me. I was actually about to come look for you, but I wasn’t sure if you were enjoying a long lie or not.’ He chuckled softly.
Her face lit up completely. ‘I do sometimes like a long lie… But I wanted to see you.’ She said shyly with a blush.
Loki grinned. ‘Come on in.’ He stepped to the side, allowing her into his room. That’s when he noticed she had a small bag with her. ‘What’s in the bag?’ He asked curiously as he shut the door.
‘Oh… Uh… I kinda… took my colouring book with me. I thought if you were busy doing other stuff, I could maybe colour or something.’ She blurted out quickly. ‘And I… just in-case I go into little space I took a cuddly toy with me. Just in-case. But I don’t want to assume you want me to.’
Loki stalked over to her and cupped her face. He pressed a kiss to her forehead. ‘Mia. I want to be your Daddy, so it would be my pleasure to have you in little space. You never need to ask. You just be you, in little space if you want to.’
Mia let out a shaky breath and smiled. ‘I just… I’m not really used to this. To actually having a… Daddy. I never really got that far with previous boyfriends, before I even told them about being a little, they found me to be too clingy. I just don’t want to mess this up before its even started.’ She said honestly.
Loki smiled and crouched down so he was at her level. ‘Sweetheart, I would love nothing more than for you to be clingy with me. I think you may find that, I am the clingy one.’ He grinned, winking at her as she laughed.
The two got comfortable on Loki’s bed and watched a film together, cuddling closely. Mia just felt so relaxed and at peace simply being with Loki.
Now she had relaxed a lot more, Loki decided to discuss some rules with her. Her stomach was twisting the entire time, but in excitement more than anything that this was actually happening. She still couldn’t believe that Loki, of all people, wanted to be her Daddy…
It was all she had ever wanted.
Loki wrote down the rules while they discussed them. Mia even had a few suggestions for some, which Loki was pleased about.
‘I think I should make two copies of these and put them up in here, and in your room too. So you don’t forget any of them.’ Loki smirked as he had another copy appear in his hands.
‘What if Wanda or Nat sees when they come into my room?’
‘That can easily be sorted. I can use my Seidr so to others it just looks like a poster.’ He smiled.
‘Ohh, nice.’ She smiled back at him.
They continued relaxing together, watching more TV. Loki put on some cartoons for Mia, happy to see she settled down comfortably again to watch them. She then ended up sitting on the floor, colouring in for a while, while Loki read a book.
He could tell she was in little space, it made his heart soar that she trusted him enough to do so now in his company.
When it was lunch time, Loki went to the kitchen to get some food sorted for them both. Upon his return, she was back sitting on his bed and watching cartoons. But she had grabbed his cape from the back of the door and was wrapped up in it, looking extremely adorable as she hid her face behind it when he came in.
Loki chuckled and joined her on the bed with the sandwiches he’d got.
‘If my cape goes missing, I will know where to find it.’ He winked at her, making her laugh.
She wouldn’t tell him, but she also loved it because it smelled of him. It was oddly comforting for her.
After eating they snuggled up yet again to watch more TV. But Mia ended up falling asleep for a while in his arms, while he gently stroked her hair.
When she woke up a few hours later, she was a little embarrassed that she had fallen asleep.
‘Sorry.’ She said sheepishly as she sat up.
‘Don’t apologise, darling. I’m glad that you’re comfortable enough with me already to be able to fall asleep soundly next to me.’ He smiled and cupped her cheek as she blushed.
‘It’s a little scary actually how comfortable I do feel with you already.’ She admitted.
Loki leaned over and kissed her forehead, making her heart explode with happiness.
In the afternoon he reluctantly had to go on a mission with the team. Mia didn’t mind really, she needed some time to process everything, her mind was racing so much. But the first thing she did when she returned to her room was put the rules up on her wall.
Her stomach churned in excitement just looking at them. She couldn’t believe this was actually happening. She was dating THE Loki! And not only that, but he was her Daddy. She may have squealed and did a little happy dance around her room briefly too from just thinking about it.
-
‘Ohh, what’s this?’ Loki asked as he eyed up what was on the table.
Mia had slipped a note under his door a few hours ago, saying to meet in the dining room at seven for dinner. She wanted to do something nice for him, since he had treated her to so much lately. And she knew the mission yesterday had been a tiring one.
She had cooked one of his favourite meals, sausage casserole. And she had bought his favourite kind of cheesecake, strawberry, for dessert.
‘This looks wonderful, darling. Thank you.’ He smiled and put his arm around her as he leaned down to kiss her on the lips. Making her blush.
‘I hope you’ll enjoy it.’ She said as she rushed to the kitchen and served up their dinner.
‘How did you manage to get rid of the others?’ Loki asked when she put the plates down at the table and they both sat down.
‘I got Nat and Wanda to help, they’ve taken the others all out for a night out.’ Mia smiled.
Loki chuckled. ‘Those two can be rather persuasive when they want to be.’
During dinner, Loki was pleased that Mia was more comfortable around him now. She was more talkative and relaxed. He knew it just took her a while to get over her initial shyness around people.
‘Do you have any tattoos?’ Loki asked while they ate their cheesecake. They had just been talking about Clints new tattoo and Loki was curious.
She blushed a little and looked down. ‘I do…’
‘Ohhh, pray tell?’ He put his elbow on the table and rested his chin on his hand, leaning in closer with a grin.
‘I uhm… Maybe you’ll need to find it for yourself.’ She said with a cheeky smile, her cheeks bright red.
Loki’s grin grew even larger. ‘I do enjoy games. Come here, little one.’ He leaned back and motioned her to him with a come-hither finger.
Not feeling quite so confident now, she made her way around the table to Loki. He turned away from the table slightly and patted his thigh as he opened his arms to her. She blushed furiously as she sat on his lap, aided by him wrapping his arms around her.
He cupped her cheek and kissed her softly on the lips, making her melt. His other hand slid under her top and he stroked up her back, making her tremble.
‘I wonder where your tattoo is then...’ He hummed, leaning back a bit to look at her. ‘Nowhere obvious, or I would have seen it already.’
He trailed his fingers up and down her back and down her sides, making her giggle. ‘Have you had it a while, or is it relatively new so I might feel it?’
‘I’ve had it for a year.’ She smiled when his fingers stilled on her lower back.
‘Hmm… I think I will need to do some more thorough investigations.’ He growled, making her stomach flip. ‘What do you say to spending the night with me, sweetling?’ He whispered, his tone deepening.
She bit her lower lip as she nodded eagerly and looked him in the eye. Loki cupped her cheek once more and kissed her again. ‘I was hoping for that response.’

——————————————————————————
She wasn’t moving at all. Sitting on the bench in the middle of this ocean of life, she watched people walk by. The sun had gone down now, after moving from building to building, making giant shadows change the whole city constantly.
She was overwhelmed, unable to move at all. Her eyes were drinking the world like new born baby’s ones. None of her muscles moved for hours, her fists clinging at her dress, her heart bleeding in silence for Dean.
A few people stopped to ask her if she was okay, but she couldn’t answer, her voice locked in her lungs…
But she finally got up.
After days of hiding in alleys, and walking on boulevards, escaping weird men yelling at her in the dark of night… It started to rain. A heavy, pouring storm rain that made her dress heavy and washed the dust out of her. And that warm loud summer rain somehow woke her from her torpor.
She had to live, and learn everything about life because that’s what Dean wanted for her… But Dean wasn’t here, and he will never be. So she came back to that bench, soaked and shaking, and started to cry for him. She had to be happy for the man she loved, and couldn’t without him…
Her tears only calmed with the rain that day. And even when her eyes stopped crying, her heart never stopped weeping for Dean a single second.
Not when she got up from that bench to find a map of the city on the subway station, not when she found clothes, and ripped that stupid dress of her body… It was still weeping when she first found people in the street and asked her where to find food. It was screaming inside her during her first night in a foster home for homeless people… When she fought for the first time to escape men again.
Her heart was weeping for Dean the first time she laughed, seeing cartoons in a TV store front, when she found out about drugs and abuse, cheating, wealth... when she started to be hungry, when she fell of exhaustion in an alley…
And even if her eyes stayed dry, her soul kept crying when the demons attacked.
Lilith had sent them after her as soon as the Queen noticed Y/n was no longer in Hell. She was hiding in an abandoned building when dozens of demons attacked her, she fought with teeth and nails to get them off and she won, but that wasn’t the end… Lilith kept sending more minions and, exhausted but determined to live, Y/n had only one option left.
She faked her own death. With the help of her powers and some research in the nearby library and in the maze of knowledge she had memorized over the years, she tricked the demons into believing she was dead, and used a certain pattern of sigils to hide herself, cloaked from every supernatural being.
Finally she was free.
So things went easier. After a little while, she met her own little angel : Sue. An older lady who offered Y/n shelter when she caught her dumpster diving her diner. Sue found Y/n a little odd at first, everyone thought that of her, but just as with every person Y/n had met on her way, Sue liked the happy girl she always seemed to be, enthusiastic about the very simpler things ; so she offered Y/n a job as a waitress in her diner.
_____________
Y/n’s window was rolled down as the loud music blasted through the speakers of her raven black 1967 Ford Mustang as she drove to work, still the same job at Sue’s diner. And she was smiling wide on her way, because she loved every single thing about this job.
She parked her car in the lot and made her way inside to take her light blue apron.
“Morning Y/n! How are you doing today sweetie ?” Sue asked.
“You know, same old same old.” Y/N shrugged.
Tying her apron on her, Y/n smiled kindly. She looked so different from what Dean had known, and hopefully different enough so no demon passing by ever recognized her. Her hair was tied together and no longer falling on a waterfall in her back. No more fancy dresses but only jeans and all the t-shirts she liked, with rock bands on it, or her favorite movies posters...
Sue sighed and put her hand on Y/n’s shoulder.
“Are you still working on freeing Prince Charming ?” she asked Y/n with an apologetic smile.
“Yes, I promised I would get him out and I won’t stop until he is” she said determinedly.
When Sue had just found Y/n she kindly offered her to stay at her house until she could get on her own feet. Y/n dreamed a lot about Dean, some dreams worse than the others, so after the third night of her guest screaming Dean’s name, Sue had asked her who he was. Y/n couldn’t tell her everything so she said he was the love of her life and was wrongly imprisoned, and that she had promised to get him out.
“He’s a very lucky guy to have you, Y/n” Sue told her.
“Yeah, I just… I miss him so much…” Y/n said as she made the last knot on her apron.
“I know sweetie, but if you truly love him, he’ll come back, just wait and see” she smiled with that protective expression she always had when it came to her protégée, even if she seemed sometimes perplexed about all those stories she told.
She gave her her note book to write down the orders.
“Yeah I hope so” Y/n clicked on her pen and made her way into the diner to take up the orders of all the customers.
It was a quiet day, she loved this little diner, the food was amazing and it even had a little jukebox she often used. It had given her a shelter, money to live, but also an identity and friends. A life.
Her smile faded like it did sometimes, Dean would have loved this diner too… She thought back to all the things she discovered on Earth.
She did everything Dean had told her about : She went to the movie theater, she learned how to drive (thanks to Sue), she had a date or four, went to a party, she got drunk a few times. She danced alone and with others, kissed a girl and travelled a little. Her appetite for life was never ending, so she had driven to the ocean and dived, she had smoked weird things once and ran in the forest, she had woke in the middle of the night to go buy ice-cream, she had sang in the shower and stayed home for an entire weekend crying while watching bad tv shows… And she even lost her virginity to a sweet boy. But nothing could get her mind off Dean, calm her weeping heart or divert her from her goal.
Every night she looked up at the stars and imagined him by her side, she could use her power to create an image of him that existed out of a million little stars, well more like a million little fireflies.
A lot of time had passed since she last saw him, her heart broke at the thought of him down there for so long. He must have forgotten her by now, if his soul even survived those many years.
A throat being cleared pulled her from her daydreaming. She turned to find a man smiling at her.
“Oh my apologies, what can I get you, sir ?” she asked the man, there was something unpleasant about him, he had dirty blonde hair and she didn’t like the way his blue eyes were traveling her up and down.
“Are you on the menu ?” he asked her with a sly smile.
Y/n sighed deep, why were a lot of men on Earth such… pigs ?
“No sorry, I was just joking” the man began. “I’ll take a coffee with some pancakes.”
Y/n wrote his order down and left with a forced smile.
He was the only customer today so Y/n handed the paper to Sue so she could make it and sat down at the little bar. She was watching the man in the mirror that hung on the other side of the counter. She couldn’t shake the eerie feeling she got from the man, he looked normal, but she could feel something… something powerful radiating off him.
The bell pulled Y/n out of her haze as she took the coffee and pancake to the man.
“Here you go sir, enjoy your meal” Y/n said as she dropped the food at his table.
“Thank you.”
She was starting to leave when his voice stopped her.
“Can I ask you a question, miss ?” he asked as he took a bite from the pancake.
“Yeah, of course” Y/n shrugged.
“You haven’t been here for long have you ?” he said as he looked at her.
“Uhm no, not very long. Are you from around here ?” Y/n asked, he was just a normal guy, it was impossible for anyone to find her anyway.
“Oh no not at all. But i didn’t mean this diner...” he kept on eating nonchalantly, he swallowed. “I meant Earth.”
Y/n’s eyes went wide, she turned and ran towards the exit only to bump into the man who was just sitting at the table behind her half a second ago.
“Who are you” Y/n asked as she stepped back from him
A deep sigh left his mouth.
“It hurts me that you even have to ask that, Y/n” he blinked and his irises turned to a fiery red.
Y/n ran towards the kitchen to get Sue. She pulled open the door and shrieked as her dear friend fell on her with her eyes burned out.
Dead.
“No ! Sue !” Y/n started shaking, cupping her friend’s face. “WHAT DID YOU DO TO HER ?” Y/n screamed to the man walking in casually.
“She put too much milk in my coffee, so I ended her” he shrugged nonchalantly.
Y/n stood up, her eyes a flare as she widened her arms to unleash her powers. Two fiery tentacles wrapped around the man’s legs.
“You’ll regret this” she said, her voice sounding like a thousand people at once.
The man gave her a sly smirk and snapped his fingers, her powers stopped immediately. She thrusted her hands forward to him, but nothing happened. Fear shone in her eyes as she looked at him in disbelief.
“It’s time we should head home, Y/n” he stepped closer to her, his fingers tilting up her chin.
“We have a family to start” he whispered against her lips with a dark chuckle.
“L-Lucifer” she gasped.
His arms wrapped tight around her and before she could blink she was back in Hell.
The suffocating smell of sulfur and blood made her cough, her whole body started to shake as she started to desperately gasp for air, her lungs crushed by the most powerful anxiety she ever felt. Her arms reached to her enemy in a pleading scratch, like he was strangling her…
“Home sweet home, baby” he cruelly cooed in her ear, his breath heavy on her skin.
She pried her arms between them to push out of his embrace. He chuckled as he let her go and she fell backwards, scrambling away from him.
“Stay away from me!” she finally managed to yell at him, her eyes flaring back to life as she was losing control over her powers.
He tilted his head at her as he watched her, his steps following her every move.
“You are such a pretty thing, I see some potential too. But I was told you were,” he hummed in thought “a pain in the ass. And I’m starting to see why.”
Her eyes were scanning everything, the bloody walls, the frozen air all around her, the never ending screams, the smell of fear and fire.
No she couldn’t be back in Hell…
With a turn of his wrist she was lifted up in the air, she tried to fight his power, but he was too strong… She couldn’t take on the Lord of Hell…
“Y/n, I’m only going to tell you that only once : You will obey and be helpful” he said with every step until he stood nose to nose with her, his eyes drinking her in.
She gave him a sweet smile before she spat in his face.
“Never” she told him.
His hand came up to wipe her spit away, he licked his hand clean, humming at her taste.
“As you wish, Y/n. Then my little slave needs chains...” he sneered.
Iron ropes wrapped around her as soon as the word left his lips, they burned into her flesh making her scream in pain. She fell heavy to the ground at his feet.
“For eternity” he finished as he sat down on his throne.
“No p-please, no chains… everything but chains” she begged him.
“Oh no baby, I know what you used to do when you’re set loose, but forget about that, he isn’t here anyway, no reason to go wandering. Jeal told me all about you and your little lover.” he said as he crossed his legs over each other.
“H-he isn’t ? H-How” she asked, suddenly able to ignore the pain of the iron digging in her flesh.
How was that possible ?
“He got out, Heaven’s plans. Now stop asking or I’ll gag you too” he sighed, looking at her. “I’ll make you your own little cage, like they did for me. No way you’ll get away from this one. And don’t think your daddy will help, he still thinks you’re dead. Everyone does.”
She whimpered in silence, only one thought on her mind. He was free…
Dean Winchester was alive.

Dean’s Pov
Dean woke up in a little painful whine, he opened his eyes and wiped the sweat off his face and neck, watching the ceiling, trying to focus on the contour of his body, the sheets and the pillow. He took a deep breath to calm his heaving chest.
Another nightmare.
And this one wasn’t the violent surviving of Purgatory, it wasn’t the burning guilt of old fights with John, the crushing pain of seeing Sam die ; it wasn’t the despair of losing Mary again, the disturbing memories of being a demon… It was the worst : Hell.
And among the worst, the tortures and the screams, tonight’s nightmare had to be about the cruellest idea demons ever came up with : fake hope.
In his dream, he was laying on the floor of his cell, barely able to breath because of the blood drowning his lungs, and he felt her hand, her tiny soft fingers wrapped around his wrist to ease his panic. She whispered sweet things to him but when he lifted his eyes to see her face, only Alastair was there, laughing loud and sharpening knives.
Dean stretched and shook his head, like he could get rid of those memories like that. He couldn’t let nightmares get to him, and he couldn’t let his past crush him.
With his guts still aching from the dream, he forced himself to get up. Staying in bed only made the memories clearer, and the trauma cut deeper. He knew only another hunt could ease the pain.
Maybe, just maybe, if he saved enough people, he would finally expiate.
The bunker was silent, even Sam was still sleeping so early in the morning. Walking to the kitchen, he frowned : His knee was still hurting and the bruises on his face and collarbones too.
Damn demon.
He turned to enter the kitchen and jumped a little.
“Hi Dean, sorry I scared you” Jack said, looking up from his bowl of cereal, his big eyes going to the hunter’s wounds quickly. “How are you ?”
“I’m fine. What are you doing up so early ?” Dean grunted, going straight to the coffee in his long grey robe.
“I have trouble sleeping lately” the boy answered, frowning in confusion like he often did.
“Try whiskey” Dean muttered low in a sleepy grunt.
“Alcohol is really not a solution to my problem I think” Jack turned to him, even more confused.
“I was kidding” he sighed, sitting in front of the young boy.
Sometimes Jack really was Castiel’s son…
The hunter scratched his scruff and took the cereal to plunge his hand in the box, eating some while reading the joke behind it.
“I hear a voice in my head” Jack sighed.
Dean looked up, ready to make a mocking joke but he noticed a genuine worry on the boy’s face.
“A voice ?”
“Yes” Jack searched Dean’s face. “At first I thought maybe I overheard something on the angel radio, but… It seems different.”
“What does it say ?”
“I don’t really understand it” Jack shrugged.
“Understand what ?” Sam asked, scratching his head while entering the room with his hair in every direction and the left side of his face still swollen and bruised. “Wow, everyone is up early this morning ! What am I missing ?”
“Jack says he hears a voice” Dean repeated, getting up to get coffee now it was ready. “But he doesn’t know where it comes from or what it says” he groaned slightly.
Please don’t let that be bad news again…
Dean sat heavily, rubbing his tired eyes while his brother interrogated Jack. How long had he been hearing the voices, were there several, was it constant… The boy only had a very few answers.
“We need to find where it comes from, Dean” Sam states, making his brother grunt again in his coffee mug.
That didn’t sound like a good old fight and kill hunt, it sounded like trouble.
_____________________
Dean pushed the heavy metal door and went down the stairs, overhearing his brother, Jack and Castiel talking in the library.
Reaching them, he almost threw the bag on the wooden table, not daring to ask any question seeing the three too serious faces looking at him.
“I guess no good news” he mumbled deep in his throat looking down to grab a beer from the bag.
“Dean” Castiel started with his worried voice, making the hunter look instantly slightly annoyed. “The voice comes from Hell.”
“Hell” Dean repeated casually, taking a sip of beer to wash the word from his mouth. “There are a lot of voices in Hell, it’s pretty loud down there.”
When his eyes fell on Sam, a shiver roamed his back. He had the face, Dean hated that face, the “you’re not going to like it” face. So he put his beer down on the table and sighed.
“What is it ?” he finally asked.
“The voice, Dean” Jack said. “It’s calling you.”
“Me” Dean’s eyes widened. “There can be another dude named Dean in Hell !”
“Dean…” Sam sighed. “Who could be calling you ?”
Dean’s first thought went to Bobby. They had freed him from Hell a few years ago, he was supposed to be in Heaven, and Crowley had decided differently… Maybe someone they lost ? An innocent locked in Hell by mistake ? But Rowena was on the throne now… Would she do that ?
“How can you hear a voice coming from Hell ?” he shook his head. “Do you hear them all ?”
“No” Jack said. “Only this one.”
Dean sat and took a deep breath, realizing this would mean that he would have to visit Hell... again. After those break in, the nightmares were always worse, and last time he had to deal with a panic attack in the shower.
“Okay” he stated. “What is the plan ? And how do we know it’s not a trap ?”
_____________________
“So your plan…” Rowena frowned from her throne, her long dress nonchalantly falling on the floor. “Is letting the boy follow a voice like a dog on a leash ?”
Dean’s face was stern, his arms tense, his heart a little compressed in his chest.
Each time he smelled that horrible sulfur mixed with blood smell, it was like he could feel the chains and the needles and hear Alastair’s voice all over again. Then he had two choices in his mind : Either he accepted it, and stayed with the demon’s croaky voice in his head for days, or focused on what had made him hold on for years back then : the secret girl’s soft touches ; but then the fear was replaced by the crushing feeling of despair and sadness, at knowing he had been fooled that bad, into believing innocence exited.
“More or less” his brother answered. “Rowena, you have to admit it’s something new… And if there are leaks in Hell…”
“Yeah yeah…” the witch sighed. “But don’t come crying when your little baby angel comes back traumatized. This is not a place for kids.”
Oh the irony.
“It’s not there” Jack cut them with a frown, looking around.
“What do you mean it’s not there ?” Dean grunted. “You were sure it came from Hell !”
“It does…” the boy stated. “Just deeper.”
“Deeper ?” Sam shook his head, but turned to Rowena, immediately trusting Jack as always. “Is there a basement in Hell ?”
“A basement ? Hell is a multi-dimensional…”
“Answer him” Dean cut her, losing patience.
Rowena got up and demons entered the room. She gave orders about getting the records, about the cage, and all. After a few very long minutes, a demon in an old man vessel came closer to the Queen, whispering something in her ear.
“Oh really ?” Rowena said. “Why am I not aware of all this ?”
“Because they’re all empty, your Majesty” the demon shrugged.
“What is ?” Sam insisted with a flustered move of his hands.
Rowena sat again.
“There are cages, like the one that held Lucifer once. Smaller ones, but for all we know, they are all empty.”
“For all you know ?” Dean raised his voice a little.
“No one uses them” Rowena shrugged.
“They held an angel during the war between Heaven and Hell” the demon spoke, his voice shaking a little, obviously uneasy in front of the Winchesters. “I-in the dawn of time, but the angel was killed by Lucifer before Michael locked him in the cage… We kinda forgot where they were.”
“Take us to them” Jack ordered Rowena with this frown of his.
Rowena looked to the demon that didn’t move, his eyes on Dean, like the hunter could suddenly decide to kill all of them.
“Merihem, take us to those cages” Rowena called him. “Chop chop.”
____________________
The light of Hell’s fire didn’t reach that deep in the pit, like the sun in the deepest ocean.
Dean was holding the torch like it was his lifeline in this vertiginous nightmare of deafening silence. Everything was threateningly pitch black, a perfect representation of the fear of dark, a big cold lonely nothingness… With stairs in the middle.
“I didn’t know there was anything deeper than Lucifer’s cage” the Queen’s voice echoed weirdly in the void.
Suddenly, the stairs stopped and Dean banged into metal bars. He lifted his torch to see what was behind it, but the cage was empty.
“It’s here” Jack whispered. “I can feel it.”
Sam opened the empty cage, his arm hair ruffling at the touch of the same metal that held his soul for so long.
“Nothing” he said, holding back his own trauma probably as hard as Dean did.
“Dean…” a weak voice made them all jump, coming from the dark.
“Who is this ?” the hunter grunted, taking a few unsure steps to the next cage, firmly holding his torch in front of him with an almost trembling arm.
“Dean…” the voice now whined.
Sam put his hand on his brother’s shoulder to make him wait for him. They looked at each other, using silent words and joining their flames to fight the pitch black ahead of them.
Even used to all kinds of nightmares, Dean wasn’t so reassured in the deepest of Hell, called by a weak and plaintive voice coming from the darkest of darks.
Something moved in the cage in a deafening metal noise, a shadow fleeing the light. The brothers both let out a shaky breath, moving closer with the demon and Rowena way behind them.
Dean swallowed, finally distinguishing a body, hunched in the opposite corner of the cage, shaking. Extremely long hair was falling around the pitiful form, chained heavily even inside the cage.
“Who are you ?” he asked again. “You’re calling me, why ?”
No answer.
“Who is this ?” Sam turned to the demon that had guided them.
“I-I have no idea” it answered. “No one came here in years !”
“Dean ?” the voice seemed to struggle thinking straight.
“Jeez” Sam muttered. “For how long has she been there ?”
She ? Dean thought, realizing now it was indeed a woman, her thin delicate hands were clinging to the floor.
His heart was racing in his chest, from being in Hell, from the fear of what he would find, and from something else, something confusing, like an emotion flying in the air around him.
The girl finally lifted her face to them, teary eyes frowned at the light of the flame, her shaking hand open in front of her to soften the burning of the torch.
Dean felt hit violently in the chest, his breathing stopped in a strangled gasp as everything he certainly knew started to crumble in the back of his mind. He opened his mouth but nothing came out… After swallowing twice, he finally managed to speak.
“Firefly ?”

Road Trip (Rafe,Kelce,Topper X Reader)
Takes Place before The Best Boys
Tumblr media
Arguing over who gets to play music
Merging all your playlists together and putting it on shuffle. That means going from the Moana soundtrack to Good Girls Bad Guys real quick
The ending location is Kelce’s lake house in Maine
Swapping spots in the car at every stop (Mostly stops demanded by Topper who just wants a slushie from every state)
Rafe driving when you guys first take off, letting you hold his hand
After the third snack stop you sawp to sit in the back with Topper,Kelce going into the passengers seat. You and Topper would watch Finding Nemo together and you werent wearing your seatbelt, leaning against him.
You used your polaroid camera so often, snapping pictures of Kelce whenever you could, even getting some of Rafe driving.
“OOH!MCDONALDS!PLEASE!”Kelce shouted over the music,Rafe glancing at you through the mirror, asking you silently. “Dont look at me!Get the poor boy some McDonalds!”You exclaimed,Kelce fistbumping you as Rafe pulled up to the McDonalds, not quite at the microphone. “Okay,we’re about to go throught the drive thru.Does everyone know what they want?”He asked, sick of Topper never knowing what he was doing. The three of you nodded, the boys ordering cheeseburgers, large fries,McFlurries and a yogurt parfait to “stay fit”.Rafe looked over to you, asking what you wanted. “Just a caramel iced coffee and a happy meal please.”You smiled, still having food from the gas stations.
Kelce was only allowed to drive during daytime because he has terrible eyesight
“Fuck-they forgot my happy meal toy!”You exclaimed, disappointed. The second Rafe saw another McDonalds he pulled up to the drive thu, asking for a cheeseburger happy meal, checking it for a toy after the worker handed it to him, letting out a relieved sigh. “Thats a good one, too. It looks like a Marvel person.”He handed it back to you.
At four in the morning the four of you were looking for a hotel to stay the night in,Topper driving this time around.Rafe noticed you go pretty much limp in his arms, your phone slowly falling from your hands and onto your stomach. He grinned, whispering to Topper and Kelce to turn down the music.
When they finally did find a hotel you guys were somewhere in Pennsylvania, getting a room with two beds and a pull out couch.
You were pretty tired, falling asleep on one of the beds immediately while the boys went to the vending machines,Kelce looking for something other than an energy drink for you to take your vitamins with.He had come back with an apple juice, grabbing your pills from the backpack you chose to bring inside, waking you up. “Hey,princess. You gotta take your vitamins then you can go to sleep.”He grinned, placing your pills into your palm, opening the bottle of apple juice.
Rafe was too tall for the beds, ending up on the pull out couch while old Mickey Mouse cartoons played on the tv.
You were clinging to Kelce when you woke up.He was scrolling through his phone, his arm at a strange angle so he wouldnt accidentally hit you. “Morning.”He grinned, setting his phone down, moving his other arm so you could sit up. You rubbed your eyes, yawning. The shower was running and Kelce had told you that Topper went to go get coffee. At some point you had fallen back asleep, face pressed into the cold pillow when an iced coffee was placed on the table next to you.You heard the shower turn off,Rafe emerging with a towel around his waist, hunting for his backpack. You blinked a few times, thinking that he was naked for a second. “Can we stay here for the day?Im tired of being in the truck.”You grumbled, reaching for the coffee and stirring the sugar and caramel syrup that was stuck at the bottom.Topper nodded in agreement, glad to finally stretch out his legs. “Yeah, yeah okay.”Rafe nodded, sitting on the pull out, watching the tv,glancing to you and Kelce every once in a while. He heard his phone ring, heart dropping when he saw that it was Ward. “I’ll be right back.”He told you guys, accepting the call.He paced up and down the hall as Ward demanded to know where he was. “I told you for the past three weeks I was going on a trip with (Y/N) and the boys.”He answered, biting his lip. “I dont remember that.”Ward grumbled. “Its cause you dont listen to me.”Rafe answered, hanging up and turning off his ringer, huffing as he leaned his head against the wall. You came out shortly after, sweatpants and Kelce’s baggy shirt on your body. “Hey,you okay?”You asked. He nodded, sniffling. You didnt say anything else, hugging him.His arms were tight around you, kissing your forehead, eyes closing as he calmed down. “He’s so bitchy.”Rafe whispered, voice shaky. You nodded, pressing a kiss to his collarbone. “I know,I know he is.But this is a fun little trip we’re having, right?”You asked, looking up at him.He nodded, his smile slowly coming back. “Right,so lets enjoy it.Lets go eat shit and watch stupid movies,i’ll even let you pick the movie.Even though its my turn-dont forget its my turn next time.”You grinned, tapping the tip of his nose.He chuckled, letting you drag him into the hotel room, sitting next to him on the bed.Topper had taken your polaroid camera from your bag, waiting for a good time to take a photo.Your arms were around Rafe, his head under your chin as he scrolled through the movies. “Isnt it (Y/N)’s turn to pick the movie?”Topper asked. You shrugged, not wanting to go into details.Rafe eventually picked a movie called ‘Shark Night’,a grin on his face knowing it would probably disturb you.You were on your phone most of the movie,a smile on your face as Rafe moved his face up so he could take a photo with you on snapchat, blue butterflies on his cheeks. You were oblivious to the fact of Topper taking a polaroid photo. It didnt matter how much it hurt him to see you and Rafe cuddling like a cute couple, you looked happy. He wanted to capture your genuine happiness in a photo, keeping the polaroid for himself.
Rafe had managed to stay clean for a bit of the trip, eventually doing a line in the hotel bathroom, pinching his nostrils so he wouldnt get a nose bleed.
Topper had went to go get you some fruit at a nearby grocery store, figuring that you’d be more comfortable eating something healthy.
He was right, watfching your happiness increase, loosening up as you ate a bowl of cherries and grapes. The second night at the hotel you slept next to-on top-of Topper, your arms around his shoulders and legs around his waist.
The morning of the third day you guys got back in the truck, enjoying The Descendants soundtrack, stopping at a beach to watch the sunset and have a small fire.
New york was a crazy experience, the place too crowded for you to really enjoy yourself. The four of you stayed at an apartment that Topper’s mother owned because of course she had to own a random apartment in the middle of New York. You showered at the apartment, the place so cold that you had to take Topper’s long sleeve shirt from him, shivering against him.
Thats when you chose to watch Z Nation, accidentally catching feelings for 10k.You had also gotten some of the best polaroids of Topper and Kelce, including two of Kelce eating a cookie the size of his head.In the first he was biting into it,the second he was glaring at the camera, realizing you had caught him.You also got a polaroid of Topper doing meditation, headphones on and sitting on the floor. The polaroids from that trip stayed in your mini backpack and away from the others just incase the boys ever wanted to look through your polaroid stacks.
The boys also got plenty of photos of you on their snapchat and around one hundred in their camerarolls if they were all put together.
Once you guys finally got to the lake house it was nothing but laughs, camp fires, kayaking and dancing around
You and Topper decided to bake a ton of sugar cookies and frost flowers and waves on them, most of it just looking like melted blobs of color but it was still fun to do.
Sitting on the large couch and binge watching disney princess films as you all ate the sugar cookies
“We love a bisexual bitch.”Kelce grinned at the television. You guys were currently watching Mulan, one of Kelce’s favorites. “He really puts the bi in bitch.”You agreed.
Campfires were fun, roasting marshmallows.Rafe being the dumb bitch he is burnt all of his, eating one that had ashes on it,gagging.
You and Rafe went kayaking in the lake but you were paranoid as hell from the movie you guys had watched, wanting to turn around when you guys got to the deeper part of the lake.He had laughed at you, agreeing. You guys decided to just sit on the sand, his hand on your thigh as you sighed, looking out at the clouds.
You guys stayed at the lake house for around ten days, not wanting to leave the cozy place. “We should move here.Like, can you imagine all of us living together? That would all be fucking chaos.”You laughed, eyes closed as you laid on your back with a pillow under your head.Topper blushed, glancing outside one of the windows. “I feel like it’d be fun.”Kelce shrugged, flipping through the channels.
You and the boys had driven into town to the tourist shops, laughing about how you probably looked the same as the tourons in obx.You got a sweatshirt with the location on it along with a t shirt and a mug,a grin on your face when you saw Kelce looking at t shirts, figuring it would most likely end up on you more than it was on him.
The mornings were really fun,the air was cold and you could see your breath, the four of you drinking hot coffee outside and enjoying the sight of the water and the beautiful green trees.
Kelce had taken photos of plenty of leaves, claiming that they were ‘the chosen ones’
You guys found a farm stand, going and trying a ton of new things including a bottle of home made strawberry milk and dunking the leftover sugar cookies in it.
You guys even went to see a huge waterfall,Rafe doing a secret photo shoot of both the trees, the waterfall and you.
You found a really cool rock that was both shiny and green, giving it to Topper for his rock collection that only you knew about.
The drive back to North Carolina was kind of sad, missing the vibes of the house in the woods. You all decided to go back to your house and have a sleepover, not wanting to drive anymore than necessary.
“Can we get taco bell?”Kelce asked, half asleep against the window. “Bruh,I cant even think about food right now ill throw the fuck up.”You mumbled, reaching for his hand.It felt cold which was nice because you felt really warm for some reason, dragging him across the leather seat, enjoying how cold he was. “What are you doing?”He asked, not fighting it. “You feel cold.”You mumbled, clinging onto him.Rafe frowned, asking if you wanted him to turn the AC on higher. You nodded, enjoying the blasts of cool air.Luckily Kelce got his taco bell, eating only half of it before falling asleep. You felt the car pull into a gas station,Topper and Rafe swapping spots so Topper would be the one driving and pumping gas into the truck. “We’re almost there guys.”Topper told you and Kelce, the radio playing Billie Eilish quietly. When the truck stopped again you guys were at a motel, not far from the docks where you’d have to catch a ferry in the morning.Topper just carried you in,letting you sleep against him on the bed, only waking up to the alarm that had been set.
The ferry ride was a blur.Kelce’s silver car had been parked in his cousins garage, the four of you getting inside and driving right to your house, all of you going back to sleep in your living room.Poor Rafe didnt even make it onto the couch, falling asleep on your floor. You were all asleep until mid afternoon,Rafe having a slight sunburn on his nose, cheeks and forehead but not so bad that he needed aloe.Kelce was walking like a zombie, making coffees and hot pockets, serving them to you guys. “Shitting hell-you didnt take you vitamins last night.”He cursed, handing you the small fist full and grabbing you a water bottle.
“dammit-we have to redo the whole trip!I forgot to get a slushie in every state.”Topper huffed. “Fuck dammit, bottom!” “Well who’s fault is that?Who’s is it?Not mine” “Maybe you shouldve driven the whole time!” Topper pouted, all of you attacking him at once.
“I made a cool edit though, you wanna see?”Kelce asked you guys, excited as he went into his cameraroll, not waiting for an answer. There were clips of you guys in the car, screaming the lyrics to the Ever After High theme song, the next clip of you and Rafe cuddling on the pull out mattress, weird filters on your faces. The next was Topper trying to get chips out of the vending machine, nearly getting his arm stuck.
“Shut the hell up!Its almost my favorite part!”You shouted, shushing the boys as your favorite part of Rewrite The Stars came up.
“Im going to catch this frog-im gonna do it.”You were determined, squatting over the long grass, staring down. “Shit-I lost it!”You laughed.
Topper tried to balance a sugar cookie on his nose, failing and losing it to the couch. “NO!THAT ONE HAD A SUNFLOWER ON IT!”He cried, searching desperately for it.The camera then moved to you and Rafe laughing then to Kelce,a smile on his face as he glanced down at the phone screen.
It was all funnier than it shoulve been since the theme song to little einsteins was playing the background, the video ending with a video of you and Rafe battling eachother with pool noodles,Topper shouting about fowl hits and how it was ‘illegal in the land of narnia’
“Wow,freaking photographer ass.”Topper chuckled, making Kelce shrugged. “I mean,I learn from the best.”He smiled at you.

Twinyards
it’s 2am and i hate myself and im literally dead on my feet but i cant fucking sleep so here i am instead
as far as most sibling relationships go, the twins have a....unique bond
they hate each other
but they don’t
it took nicky some time to understand that yes, the twins did care for him and each other
in their own way
at first glance, no one would see it-- not even nicky. through longer exposure, it would be hard to discern, but nicky did, somehow
he really first noticed after Andrew had almost killed the four guys attacking nicky
after that, nicky started picking up the small things
when aaron went to the local starbucks on days they woke up early but didn’t want to make breakfast, he knew andrew and nicky’s orders by heart
when andrew convinced nicky to buy ice cream despite nicky protesting that they should be mindful of their money, andrew always got nicky’s favorite flavor as well
on rough days when nicky was just drowning in the stress of holding a job and paying for the bills, the twins would stay in their room, to let nicky pick himself back up, before ordering pizza and turning on the tv
they never talked about it. if someone brought it up, an argument very often followed up
the twins have a strange way of showing affection, but that’s because they never learned to show proper affection
aaron was always quick to get angry and andrew was indifferent to the point of aggravation and pure frustration
it was their ways of coping
andrew by not caring and aaron by being angry at anyone for no reason
their first meeting could have gone a lot worse, but they both in a subconscious way saw the other as a survivor of their circumstances
and andrew did care. so did aaron
aaron reached out to his brother, filled for the first time with the hope that someone out there cares about him. he hopes and hopes that it will work out.
it doesn’t. aaron’s heart just breaks and his hope is shredded when andrew tells him to fuck off.
andrew wanted a brother, too. he wanted to have at least one good thing, one thing that life wouldn’t fuck up for him
but andrew couldn’t even have that. he couldn’t let his brother, his twin, go through what he was going through. so he pushed him away, made sure he’d be safe from his life.
when andrew learns that despite trying to protect his brother, he had still failed, he was angry. he was so angry. he was protecting someone who was being hurt by his mother. by their mother. who’d been so hurt, he would get high just to forget the hurt
deep down, aaron always knew his mother never truly cared. deep down he understood why andrew killed her. but he refused to admit it. he refused to believe his mother deserved it.
the twins weren’t subtle, but they didn’t know how they felt towards each other. it was hard to describe, and not one word really could.
andrew was first fiercely stubborn and loyal to aaron, trying to protect him the way he’d never been able to protect himself, and it slowly shifted onto nicky
aaron did care about andrew. he reached out. he wanted a brother. he wanted a twin. but he wasn’t expecting andrew. and it muddled the feelings, and when Tilda died, it just became worse, because of course aaron was angry and sad, and andrew couldn’t understand. and aaron didn’t understand how andrew could feel so little sympathy for their mother. andrew didn’t see how aaron could mourn the person who’d ruined him. who’d ruined them both, really.
nicky did try his best to get them to get along. but he didn’t really understand the issues and the layers of caution and hurt. he was pushing, but not in the right direction
and it’s not like either of the twins really tried either
in another life, they might’ve. in different circumstances, they might’ve. but Tilda was dead, and aaron and andrew had so many miscommunications to get through.
it wasn’t until Neil, and the early Thanksgiving at the Hemmicks that it changed
neil was different
he coaxed more out of andrew than aaron ever did. it’s one of the reasons why aaron hated him. how could he, practically a stranger who’d known them for half a year, could know more about andrew than aaron had learned in three years? some of it felt unfair to aaron, but he felt like he half deserved not knowing his brother. it wasn’t like he’d tried his hardest to get to know him.
and it was how quickly neil had puzzled together the mess that was andrew and aaron
not even they could piece it together. it felt so thoroughly messed up and convoluted that they never though any of it was salvageable anymore
when neil brough up Tilda’s death, right after aaron had killed drake, aaron had felt angry, pissed off, borderline furious
but the thought stayed. and nagged.
and when andrew left for Easthaven, without even waiting for aaron to get back to columbia, it hurt more than he’d anticipated
aaron thought about it a lot. and he hated that neil’s statement had made so much sense
after that it was slow going
so slow no one really noticed at first. not even neil. but then neil started picking up one or two things, and then progressively, so did nicky
aaron started
the twins never really verbally apologized for hurting each other, either physically or with words. they’d just spit hurtful words at each other until one of them (usually aaron) stormed out. then, usually a few hours later, one of them called out the answer of a particularly hard homework question for the other and the whole thing was forgotten
it was just how they worked
maybe it was the way they were brought up, or maybe it was just the way they operated, but neither twin needed the other to physically say the words “i’m sorry”. it was usually implied through action, as were most things with them.
and aaron found it easier to forgive andrew for killing Tilda that he thought
one morning in the Columbia house, andrew walked in the kitchen and aaron was there drinking coffee, waiting for his toast to pop out of the toaster, and handed andrew a cup of hot chocolate
andrew simply raised an eyebrow, but took it anyway.
after that, it remained slow.
when andrew went to the store, he’d sometimes buy aaron’s favorite ice cream flavor
and it goes back and forth for a while
they don’t mention it. aaron never brings up the fact that study sheets occasionally appear on his desk the day before a test. andrew never mentions the newly stocked cocoa powder in the kitchen, stacked next to the coffee and tea.
its such small things its only noticeable to the twins and sometimes neil
and it stays at that, but it’s progress, and that’s never happened before, and when neil (and later nicky) notice, they just smile a little, because no matter how little, progress is progress, and it’s a big step for andrew and aaron.
they’re far from talking through their issues, and it occurs to neither of them, but they’re content to go slow
once, aaron had a bad nightmare that woke him up at an ungodly hour of the night. he knew sleep wouldn’t come, not with the way he was shaking and sweating, so he decided coffee and a movie would distract him
he’s surprised to find andrew sitting on the countertop eating m&m’s aaron had bought just a day prior
they don’t speak at all. aaron just makes his tea and sits on the couch, and andrew stays on the counter, scrolling through his phone
aaron turns on the tv and puts on an animated series at low volume
at one point andrew turns his attention to the tv before sliding off the counter and going back to bed. aaron falls asleep on the couch
a couple of nights later, same thing happens again-- nightmares aren’t uncommon for the twins, or anyone really. if the twins cross path in the kitchen, one would just go back to their room
this time the kitchen is empty so aaron pulls out the ice cream and turns on the tv
andrew, being a light sleeper, wakes up. he knows who it is and debates getting up. he does, and this time directly goes to the living room and sits in an armchair, staring blankly at the tv. he only goes back to his room when aaron falls asleep, leaving the tv on.
andrew manages his nightmares better, but some still rattle him every so often, and enough that he usually stays up the rest of the night or finds neil and stays with him.
it’s one of the worse nights, and andrew wakes up in a panic, shivering and angrily wiping his wet face clean. he leaves his room, intent on finding neil before he realises it’s not neil he wants to be with
it annoys him, and he doesn’t like it, or even understand why, but he goes to aaron’s room anyways. he opens the door and settles in aaron’s desk, refusing to wake his twin up.
aaron finds him the next morning, snoring softly in his chair, his head resting in his crossed arms. (he’s really confused, and considers waking him, but decides against it and instead makes him hot chocolate for when he wakes up)
they still don’t talk much about it, but now they don’t act as tense around each other, and usually leave it at insulting the other.
nicky, having dealt with the twins, notices this and almost cries and nearly hugs both of them. he cares too much about graduating with all his limbs to do it, however
he mentions it to neil later, who had noticed the smaller gestures, and shares in  nicky’s delight. yes, neil has a certain dislike for aaron, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t want andrew and aaron to have a healthy relationship with each other they clearly deserve.
to anyone else, this might be slightly ridiculous, not meaning anything, and probably not even noticeable, but for both of them, it was a huge step forward.
aaron manages to find a spare mattress that he fits under his bed for andrew. andrew doesn’t put a mattress or explicitly tells aaron he can come in his room, so aaron opts instead for tv and snacks. sometimes andrew shows up, sometimes he doesn’t, and aaron finds he doesn’t mind.
one of those nights, aaron finds andrew already watching something on the tv when he shows up. it’s not a cartoon, but aaron grabs the leftover pizza from last night and watches with andrew
later, he looks up the series and ends up watching it. he catches up to the episode andrew was watching, and a couple nights later turns on the show
andrew is surprised that aaron wanted to catch up, and was invested in the show. he settles for telling aaron he’s a couple episodes ahead. aaron shrugs and replies that they can watch until he catches up. it’s their way of agreeing to watch it together at 4 in the morning
one wednesday, a couple months into the twins’ tentative healing, they mentions to Bee what’s been happening. and Bee smiles. she’s just happy that the twins are getting better, and striving to fix things a little.
the Upperclassmen catch up much later
probably because andrew still calls out insults his brother during practice and aaron retaliates
and yes sometimes andrew purposefully deflects balls in such a way that they hit aaron’s back or legs just to annoy him
but andrew tolerates katelyn
and aaron still doesn’t know what andrew sees in neil josten but doesn’t mind his relationship
andrew tells aaron one wednesday he hates being touched, and it doesn’t take a genius to know why. aaron has the urge to go find all of andrew’s abusers and bash their brains in like drake
aaron and andrew never really had people to care for them, so their sense of family is a little extreme, but it’s there
and it’s proof they can get better over time
they’re both in their own way protective of each other. and it’s a silent pact that anyone who hurts nicky will have to face two very pissed off blonds
movie nights at four am become a regular at the Columbia house, and sometimes (though they both have less nightmares over the years) during the week, so they get used to the extra key specifically for each other’s dorms.
one morning matt walks in and see aaron and andrew asleep on oppsoite ends of the couch while sharing a blanket, and takes a picture that he sends to everyone.
dan frames it and hangs it on the wall in the Foxhole Court (next to the one of Andrew and Neil at the airport)
the twins find out and wear practically identical “i am going to murder whoever did this” scowls
andrew thinks birthdays are a waste of time, but neil convinces him to spend time with aaron
so andrew drags aaron to the roof after raiding the liquor cabinet and get drunk on the roof
the twins have a lot of things they never mention
it’s a maze that’s hard to navigate, but the twins know how the system works
there are things and moments and people they never bring up, and there are gestures and little things that are not worth mentioning. both twins don’t know how to really communicate with each other, and sometimes with other people
they don’t know how to express things verbally
so between them its almost and unspoken agreement that phrases like “i love you” or “i’m sorry” are meaningless and dumb.
its one of the reasons why it’s hard to see that the twins are closer than they ever were, because they don’t communicate with words. they’re better at showing what they mean than actually saying it
they get more comfortable around each other, and by the time their senior year rolls in they make jokes (it’s hard to classify them as jokes when it mainly consists of one of the twins pointing at a random object and going  “that’s you” with a blank expression while the other scowls)
nicky’s already back in germany and as graduation comes near, both twins find that they don’t want to get away from each other
andrew who doesn’t give a shit about aaron and hates him, texts him pictures of the cats or neil being idiots every once in a while
aaron doesn’t text often, because he doesnt really know what to text
but sometimes andrew will receive a picture of an empty store shelf with a single can of soup on it and the caption “is this u?”
and its so fucking random that andrew can’t help laughing
and aaron begins sending birthday cards to andrew (andrew calls him just to say fuck off and then hangs up immediately, but aaron just smiles and keeps doing it anyway)
(and andrew does start texting aaron happy birthday when it comes around)
one christmas nicky invites both twins and their significant others to germany and andrew gets aaron one of those stupid mugs with a science joke on it
aaron scowls because he knows andrew is blatantly mocking him. he knows.
but its fine because aaron got andrew a black sweater reading “dumber twin” (he had it custom made in rainbow font)
andrew doesn’t even try to act pleasant and says fuck you to aaron’s face
after that christmas, aaron always drinks from the cup andrew got him and andrew wears aaron’s dumb sweater
(katelyn and neil sneakily take pictures and send it to each other because “they’re bonding”)
it takes a long time for the twins to really get around their issues, and they’re both still healing, but at least whatever tilda severed when she separated them is healing too
it might never be perfect, and there’s a lot of healing, and it might never be okay, and it might take them their whole life to properly heal, but the steps they take are forward, and together
and their relationship is still complicated and messy and not the best
but theyre both trying
they both want this

Blushing in His Colours, Chapter 6
TITLE: Blushing in His Colours CHAPTER NO./ONE SHOT: Chapter 6 AUTHOR: fanficshiddles ORIGINAL IMAGINE: Imagine Loki being a Daddy Dom, his adores and loves his little, worships the ground she walks on. She has vaginismus, but he couldn’t be more supportive with her. RATING: M
‘I wonder where your tattoo is then…’ He hummed, leaning back a bit to look at her.

Meeting the Parents - H.C.
Word Count: 2.1K
Requested? Still no, I’m still waiting
Warnings: I didn’t proof read it because exam season is here and I should actually be studying instead of doing this - so it’ll probably be messy! Apart from that, not much!
A/N: Super sorry it took me this long to write this but I’m having exams so time is not on my side! Today’s piece is v fluffy! I hope you like it and if you do don’t forget to show it with a like, a comment or a reblog! Because I didn’t proof read it I might read it tomorrow and edit some stuff out!
Henry’s POV “I can’t believe we are bringing 3 cakes,” I say laughing as we get out of the car in front of my parents house and start walking towards their door.
“We’re not bringing 3 different cakes!” She complains. “We’re brining muffins, a banana bread and a chocolate cake. So it’s only one cake. Plus I’m staying there for the weekend, so if we count today we’re really only bringing one thing per day,”
“Plus the flowers,” I say with a chuckle.
“The flowers obviously don’t count!” She says, but at least now that we’re joking she doesn’t look as nervous as she did in the car.
“Obviously,” I say with a laugh. “Why would they? They’re not even edible,”
“Well... they’re pansies so technically you can eat them. They make salads look beautiful and I used them once and it was quite good!”
“And did people survive that culinary experience?” I ask with a laughter.
“Well, I’m here and alive ain’t I?”
“How long was this? Because you are looking a bit pale,” I joke as we get to their porch and I ring the door bell.
“What?!” She asks me concerned. “Are you serious? I knew should’ve... put some bronzer on or something,”
“I was joking! You look wonderful as always,” I tell her and lean in to kiss her cheek. “They’ll love you,”
“Once you explain that you’re not dating a ghost,” she says with a smirk as I pull away.
I’m still laughing when my mum opens the door.
“Henry! Love! Aw, I missed you so much, sweetheart!” She says and gives me a tight hug. “Oh, and this must be Y/N, I’m so glad you could come this weekend,”
“Oh! Thank you so much for inviting me,” Y/N says with a big smile. I knew mum and dad would love her, the only problem would be my brothers. It’s not that they wouldn’t love me, it’s just that they would tease me about her the whole weekend and tease her because of me too. But Y/N was tough, she’d get along with them.
“We come bearing gifts,” I tell my mum holding the basket higher so she could see it.
“You shouldn’t have!” My mum reprimands us quickly.
“Oh, it’s nothing! They’re not really gifts. I just had some free time on my hands” woke up at 6 this morning “and thought I’d get my hands on some recipes I’ve been dying to try,”
“Thank you so much,” My mum tells her and steps aside from the door. “Come on in, come on in! Your dad is somewhere around the corner, but go ahead and put your things in your bedroom while I put these lovely cakes in the kitchen and look for your father. Don’t forget to show Y/N around!” She says and takes the basket from my hands before walking towards the kitchen.
“Come on, you’ve heard my mum, I’ve got to show you around,” I say and hold her hand showing her the way, first to our bedroom and then around the house.
“I guess it’s a good thing she didn’t ask why you were dating a ghost,” Y/N says as we go up the stairs and I chuckle and shake my head. “She was probably just being polite though,”
“Or maybe she was afraid she’d get the species wrong. Like maybe you were a vampire or a ghoul or something along those lines,” I try and she laughs.
“Well, when she saw me I was standing in the sun so if she thinks I’m a vampire she’s a little misinformed. And aren’t ghost and ghouls kind of the same thing?”
“Well, I think ghouls are evil spirits or something,”
“Oh, do you think that from our 5 second exchange she could see how evil I truly am?”
“Yeah, the flower pot present gave it away,” I tell her and she laughs again. That laugh... It was how I knew I had to bring her here. I just figured I would never get tired of it and, more than that, I would like to be the reason of that laughter for as long as I can.
“Ok, so 1 parent down. 1 to go,” She says as we put our bags in the bedroom.
“It doesn’t help that you’re talking about them like you’re a sniper and they’re targets, just saying,”
“Come one, pick a lane mate, am I a sniper or a ghoul?” She asks and then takes a seat on the bed and looks around. “Your bedroom is nice,”
“Yeah, it was renovated a few years ago,” I tell her as I sit next to her.
“Oh noooo, I wanted to see child or teenage-Henry’s bedroom!” She whines, letting her back fall on the bed. How easy she could make me laugh also made me sure that I wanted to bring her here.
“You really don’t,” I tell her with a laughter thinking about all the posters and crap I had in my bedroom back then.
“I beg to disagree, let’s just hope your parents have some terrible pictures of you as a kid to make up for it,”
“Well, they do, but you won’t come anywhere near them if I have anything to do with them,” I tell her and lay down next to her, our legs dangling on the edge of the bed.
“What? Why do you think I came here this weekend? It was for the ammunition against you!” She says looking at me sideways, with a big goofy smile.
“And the nerves about meeting my parents?” I ask, my cheek laying on the bed to look at her. “If this is only for you to see embarrassing pictures of me as a kid, why were you nervous?”
“Isn’t it obvious? If they didn’t like me they might not want to show me the pictures! It has nothing to do with the fact that I want to impress them so that they don’t hate me when they see me in the future,”
“When they see you in the future, eh?” I ask her.
“Exactly, it has nothing to do with that,” She says and then quickly stands up. “Come on! I want to meet the rest of your family!”
I shake my head but stand up and gladly take her to meet the rest of my family.
*The next day*
I am standing in the kitchen table looking outside where Y/N passed back and forth talking on the phone. There had been an emergency at work and she had to take this call and solve problems only she could solve. She apologized about a thousand times even though it was so early no one but me would even know probably.
“So,” I hear behind me startling me. “No need to jump!” My brother says with a laugh, he had clearly done it on purpose.
“You’re up already?”
“The kids woke me up,” he explains.  “But I put them in front of the tv, like the responsible dad I am, and came here to ask you why you were up already,”
“Y/N had a work call and I woke up as well,”
“Look at you being a supportive husband,” He jokes.
“I’m no one’s husband,” I tell him, shaking my head.
“Yet, eh?” He says raising his eyebrows.
“Stop it,” I chuckle.
“So is it a work call or was she so freaked out by us that she had to get some emotional support from her friends or therapist this morning?”
“Surprisingly enough it’s actually work. Though knowing you guys I should probably have a therapist on speed dial,” I laugh.
“Nonsense.” He says dismissing it. “If she has a sense of humour she’ll be alright! And she looked ok last night,”
“You barely talked to her last night, but thanks,” I tell him.
“That’s true,” He admits, “But I did see you drooling over her when she was playing with my kids,” He makes fun of me.
“I’m pretty sure you should be watching your kids not me, but again, thanks,” before he can say anything else Y/N is heading inside again.
“Hey! Good morning! I hope I didn’t wake you up,” She says to my brother.
“No, no! The kids beat you to it,” He tells her with a smile.
“They seem to beat me at everything, first it was last night winning at hide and seek, now this?” She says and my brother chuckles. I knew he’d love her.
“Did you manage to solve it?” I ask her, talking about the phone call.
“Yeah, thanks,” she says leaning on me, and because I am sitting and she is standing, her hip is against my side and at the perfect place for me to wrap my arm around her. “It was a bit messy and, but 5 phone calls later, it’s handled! Do you want to help me make breakfast because I don’t know where anything is?” She asks me.
“Well, I’m gonna go see some idiotic cartoon with my kids so I don’t have to help with breakfast too!” My brother says before leaving the kitchen. I take the opportunity of being alone with her to quickly stand up and kiss her.
“Come on,” she says pulling away with a smile. “your parents could come in any moment. You’re very tempting but...”
“They already love you can’t we just enjoy that and be comfortable?”
“No,” she says with a laugh. “I am not so sure that they like me and, if they do, I want to keep it that way!”
“You’re not sure if they like you? My mum was sharing recipes with you and you were talking with my dad for god knows how long about business! They love you! Even if they accidentally bore you to death,” That gains mea laughter.
“Don’t be daft, they were not boring me. They were super interesting actually!”
“Super interesting?” I ask her skeptically.
“Yes! Your mom’s salted caramel recipes is wild!” I tell him. “Now come on, I’m starving!” She says and takes a step back.
A few minutes later, while she is cutting some bread to toast and I am scrambling some eggs my brother gets back in the kitchen.
“Hey, H, could you do me a favour and keep and eye on the kids every now and then so I could go back to sleep for a few more minutes?”
“Of course,” I nod and my brother smiles and happily goes back to bed.
“I guess you should add a few eggs for your nephews,” She tells me and I nod.
“You know I could get used to this,” I tell her nonchalantly. “You and me making breakfast, kids in the next room,”
“Oh,” she says slightly surprised. I’m trying to act cool and not at all nervous that we’re not on the same page. “I guess it wouldn’t be the worse thing in th world,” she says cooly as well,  a big smile and a blush on her cheeks giving her away. Oh, I hope I never lose the ability to make her blush.
I can’t help it, I put the bowl and the fork down, turn to her, wrap my arms around her waist and kiss her.
“Come on,” She tells me with a smile. “I want kids too, but now might not be the right moment to try to have one,” she says with a wiggle of her eyebrows. I am still laughing when my mum comes in the kitchen a few moments later.
“Good morning to you two,” She says merrily. “You’re in a good mood,” She tells me with a smile.
“I got some good news,” I tell her and, from the corner of my eyes I see Y/N blushing some more.
“Oh, if you’re making breakfast you wouldn’t mind if I spent some time with the children, would you?” She asks us barely even registering what I told her.
“Of course not!” Y/N tells her.
“Thank you, you’re a sweetheart,” My mum says before walking away. I immediately turn my attention back to Y/N, one arm around her again.
“Your mom is in the next room!” She whispers to me.
“Yeah, yeah, yeah. I’ll stop with the PDA in front of my family, but it’s very hard when you tell me things like you just said,”
“Me? You said it to me!” She argues, but she’s smiling.
“Yeah, but... ok, we’ll talk about it when we’re back home yeah?” I ask and she nods. She quickly gets on her tiptoes and kisses me before getting away and back to the counter.
“You’re right, it’s very hard not to kiss you when we’re talking about this,”

Mixtape of Our Love -Ch. 1: Violet
"I don't understand why we even went to that party. It was no more fun than if we'd stayed in and played board games," Spencer complained. Not only had JJ and Penelope dragged him away from his nighttime reading, but they'd screwed up their usual night before school routine. Sure, the smile on Spencer's mother's face whenever she saw his friends taking him out to socialize was nice, but the party was a bust. The punch probably would have been fine if nobody had spiked it, but it seemed that most of the student body in attendance that night wanted to start their school year off hungover. "Are you even okay to drive?"
"Spencer, you don't have a license and Garcia can't walk on her own, I'm kind of the only option. Besides, I didn't drink the punch, only had two beers, and got something to eat before we left," JJ reasoned with him. Rather than admit she was right, Spencer just sat back in the backseat of JJ's car and stared out the window as she drove towards the apartment complex he lived in with his mother. "Hey Spence, I'm gonna need you to make sure that Garcia gets inside her place."
"Okay," Spencer agreed. JJ stopped to let them out and then sped home, wanting to make it before her dad came down to lock the gate. She was sure that he knew about the party, it'd been a tradition since he was in high school to go buck wild the night before school. JJ remembered hearing Roslyn coming home from that party at night. Their parents hadn't told either girl that they weren't allowed to go, but after what happened to Roslyn, Richard had gotten much more strict.
"Stealth mode," JJ muttered to herself as she turned her car lights off. She got past the gate at the opening of their driveway and then parked her car about a quarter of the way down. That way, it was unlikely that her parents would be woken up by the sound of her car's engine or the closing of her car door. JJ snuck around to the basement window, which she had left open, and then climbed inside. She landed with a soft thud on a pile of blankets she'd laid out earlier and then made her way upstairs.
JJ knew that her father would get the notification on his phone that their gate was open in just a few minutes, so she had to be fast. It was an every night ordeal, Richard not closing the gate when he got home from work. Sandy would go unlock the gate when she left to check on JJ's grandparents in the morning, it'd be locked again by the time that JJ got back from school, and she'd leave it unlocked, but shut for her dad when he got home. Since she'd gotten her license and own vehicle, that was the order of things at the Jareau home.
As if on cue, just as JJ was pulling back the covers on her bed and turning off her TV, she heard the heavy footsteps of her father as he walked by. He paused by her door for a moment, but then kept walking down the stairs. JJ sighed in relief and changed out of what she'd worn to the party and into a pair of pajamas. Since he didn't check on her on his way down, JJ knew that her father would on his way up. JJ brushed her teeth and sprayed herself with perfume to get rid of any trace of alcohol on her body. It wasn't uncommon for Richard to invite JJ out to the garage for a beer after dinner, but JJ had rushed off to Garcia's after dinner, so he didn't that night.
"Jenny?" Richard asked quietly as he pushed open his daughter's bedroom door. JJ's light was still on, so he had presumed that it was okay to come in. "How was game night?"
"It was fun dad," JJ answered. She felt a little bad about lying to her dad, especially not that she was on good terms with him again. After Roslyn's suicide, the relationship between JJ and her parents had left a lot to be desired. As she got a bit older and dealt with her own grief, she realized that they had been trying to be there for her, but they had also just lost one of their children. "Forget to shut the gate again?"
"I don't see how you can set the code from inside, but you can't shut it," Richard said as he sat down on the edge of JJ's bed. JJ was sitting at the vanity that she had painted with her sister whenever they were younger at their grandparents. "Are you nervous about tomorrow? I remember how crazy your sister would go before the first day, especially this one."
"I think it's going to be a good year," JJ told her father. She turned to put her hairbrush away, so she didn't see the flash of fear in his eyes at what she said. "I should go to bed though. Night dad."
"Night Jenny." Richard got up and walked out of JJ's room. He glanced over at her one last time before shutting the door and letting her get to sleep.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Three quick knocks to JJ's door from her mother woke the teenager up like always. JJ checked the clock as she rolled out of bed. She didn't need to wake up whenever her mother left, but Sandy didn't trust JJ to wake up with her alarm after not using it all summer. Richard wouldn't be awake until after JJ was already supposed to be in school, so JJ just had to wake up at 5:45 whenever her mother left until it became a routine for her. Weekends were different though, JJ would either spend them at Garcia's or she'd roll out of bed and join her family at her grandparents' place around 1, just in time for lunch.
"Morning sunshine," Sandy greeted her daughter. JJ rubbed her eyes and grumbled about how it was too early. "Eat up, you'll feel better then."
"Promise?" JJ asked, her voice a little raspy. Sandy set a plate down in front of JJ and didn't move until the young blonde started to eat. JJ knew that her mother wanted to sit down and have some sort of little talk with her. Senior year was a big deal and a lot of pressure. It didn't help that this was the first school year that JJ was going to be off medication since the seventh grade. The old family psychiatrist had moved to Maine and the new one seemed to think JJ was too normal to need medication. "Mom, shouldn't you get going?"
"Oh, yes, you're right." Sandy threw her hands up in a frazzled-looking motion and then turned on her heels to go. JJ finished her breakfast, ignoring the fact that her mother still shaped her pancakes like Minnie Mouse. It was sort of cute and caused JJ to be overcome with a wave of nostalgia. It was bittersweet, the fun memories of family breakfasts in the morning before school. Now, she had to go through the morning motions all by herself. The cartoons that she'd watch with Roslyn were replaced by a morning run.
JJ plugged her earbuds into her phone and pressed shuffle on her phone. The music was blaring from the earbuds before they reached her ears. JJ's legs moved to match the beat of the song. She ran fast and hard, ignoring the burning in her legs and lungs. She would do this every morning, pushing herself to go longer and longer. On the outside, it looked like JJ was a dedicated athlete, but really she just wanted to reach a point where she didn't feel the emptiness of losing her first best friend.
Roslyn had been the person JJ looked up to. JJ knew that she'd gotten lucky with Roslyn, who had always made sure that there was time for JJ. Whenever Roslyn had started playing soccer, she'd let JJ sit on the sidelines at her games and during the practices. Roslyn had been the person who JJ had gone to for everything, but now JJ didn't have that and even though it had been years, JJ couldn't help but to feel so lost sometimes when she was alone. Garcia and Reid were good about being there for her though whenever she'd have particularly bad moments.
JJ turned herself around and ran back to her house. By the time she'd gotten inside, she had worked up a pretty good sweat. JJ dropped her clothes on the floor of her bedroom on the way into her bathroom. She double checked to make sure that she had set a towel by the shower before she turned on the water. JJ connected her phone to the Bluetooth speaker she kept in her bathroom and then stepped into the shower. As she washed away the sweat and grime from her run, JJ pretended that her sadness went along with it. With a content sigh, JJ turned off the water and stepped out of the shower. JJ stopped at her dresser to get some of her outfit for the day.
There had once been a time whenever JJ had put a lot of effort into what she'd wear for the first day. That had been back before she had a car and went to parties. That was a time whenever she had rarely seen her classmates over the summer because she'd been at the farm riding horses most of the summer. Of course every weekend, she'd go into the city for a playdate with Garcia, and then eventually Reid too. Once she was dressed, JJ sat at her vanity to fix her hair and put on a little makeup. It'd be gone after gym class, but if she didn't put something on, Garcia was liable to do her makeup for her in the car on the drive to school.
"Decent," JJ commented to herself. She slid the chair she'd been sitting in back and stood up to look over her ensemble fully. JJ looked good in her casual and simple, but not sloppy outfit. Her jeans were a light blue with a few small rips strategically placed. JJ had gone with a plain white long sleeved shirt that would have the sleeves halfway up her forearms by the time she got to her car. JJ turned off her speaker and went downstairs to grab her backpack and put on a pair of shoes. JJ smiled as she saw the new shoes her mother had bought her for school already sitting out.
JJ grabbed her backpack and walked into the kitchen to get her water bottle and some snacks for during the school day. She made sure to grab one of the birthday cake protein bars for Reid, who never ate breakfast at his house because he was busy with his head in a book. Garcia always had breakfast, and would have at least one snack for both JJ and Reid to eat on one of their between class breaks. JJ grabbed Reid a bottle of Powerade on her way out of her house and then ran out to her truck so they wouldn't be late to school. Since she'd gotten her license, JJ had been Garcia and Reid's ride to school. Garcia didn't like having to wait for the bus or subway and people tended to pick on Reid when he used public transportation.
Garcia and Reid were waiting outside in the parking lot for JJ when she got there. Reid got into the backseat and Garcia put her backpack next to him while JJ got the door for her. Once Garcia was settled in the passenger's seat, JJ shut the door for her and then walked around to her own side. JJ got in and buckled up, knowing that Reid was watching to make sure that she did. JJ glanced back at Reid in the rearview mirror and flashed him a smile. Much like he had whenever they had first met in middle school, he smiled at her excitedly. Not a lot had changed for their group since it had formed. Reid was literally wearing the same exact outfit he wore every single year: brown pants that had been ironed about a week ago, a light blue shirt, and a semi-ugly sweater vest that JJ had punched a guy for teasing Reid about freshman year.
"Reid, are you buckled?" JJ asked as she placed her hand on the gear shift.
"Yes, I am," Reid said and JJ shifted into drive.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"They are really nice. Spencer can come off as a little odd, but he is super sweet and insanely smart. JJ is probably the nicest person you'll ever meet, unless you're mean to Reid or me," Garcia told Emily as they walked through the cafeteria. "I'm sure that they'll both welcome you into the group."
"Even if they don't, thank you for trying," Emily said. Garcia frowned at that for a second, recognizing the self-deprecating comment from years of JJ and Reid both subtly doing it. "I don't expect myself to fit in here. I'm not even sure how long I'll be in DC for."
"Well, while you are here, you're welcome to join the band of merry outcasts. Even though JJ could definitely be the queen of the school if she really wanted to," Garcia said as they sat down at the table. "Emily, this is Spencer Reid. Reid, where's JJ?"
"I think she was talking to Will by the forks," Spencer said, not looking up from what he was writing in his notebook. Garcia cleared her throat and Spencer looked up, surprised to see Emily sitting across from him. "You were in my Advanced Literature class. Prentiss right, the ambassador's daughter?"
"Emily Prentiss." Emily reached out to shake Spencer's hand. "What are you working on?"
"Book analysis," Spencer answered. Just as he was returning to his paper, JJ came up behind him and shut his notebook. "I was working on that."
"And now you're eating lunch. Hi, Jennifer Jareau, but you can call me JJ." JJ smiled politely at Emily as she sat down next to Spencer and across from Garcia. Spencer pouted for a couple of moments and then turned his attention to his food. "Are you new here? I don't think I've seen you before."
"Oh yeah, my family moved back to DC after awhile. I'm Emily," Emily said, hoping that nobody caught the fact that her voice was slightly higher than normal. "It's nice to meet both of you."
"I wouldn't speak so soon, Spence here hasn't told you about meat processing while you're trying to enjoy your chicken nuggets," JJ joked as she nudged Spencer.
"I don't know why you're still upset about that because since then you have eaten at least 326 chicken nuggets," Spencer said and JJ rolled her eyes at him. "Not counting the ones on your plate or whatever you took from Will when you were talking. What I said didn't deter you in the slightest."
"So Emily, how long has it been since you've lived in DC?" Garcia asked Emily, hoping to deter JJ and Reid's little back-and-forth.
"Well, we moved to Europe when I was like six, but I spent a summer around here when I was 14. I spent most of my time hanging out in federal buildings though with one of my old friends, Aaron," Emily answered. Garcia kept Emily talking until she stumbled upon something that Emily and the other could bond over.

CHAPTER 1
words; 3503
“Your hair looks weird, dad.”
I open my eyes, only to find Eunmi just a few inches away from me, eyes glued to the top of my head. Her cheeks are puffy, telling me she woke up minutes ago. Of course she did – she can’t sit still for minutes. I look behind her, at the clock and sigh, confirming my suspicions.
“It’s 6:30AM Eunmi. Why?” I grunt.
“I was bored,” she shrugs. “Your hair really looks weird, dad. Can we have bacon for breakfast?”
“Breakfast can wait a little bit,” I reach for her and snuggle her on top of me. “Now you’re gonna cuddle with dad for a while.”
“You just want to sleep more, not cuddle,” she laughs at me.
“No,” I laugh, squishing her closer to my chest. “But I always want to cuddle with my little girl.”
“No, you just want to sleep.”
“You’re five, you shouldn’t be this smart.”
“That’s your and mom’s fault,” I can feel her shrugging her tiny shoulders. “Are we going to see Uncle Jin today? Will he come over?”
“I’m pretty sure Uncle Jin is busy today honey, it’s a Sunday,” I sigh, knowing damn well that Jin is most definitely recovering from the night before. Almost six years ago, around the time when I found out that Eunmi was on her way into my world, I have accepted that Jin and I have changed our roles completely.
I’m the younger brother – I should be the one partying and fucking random girls while Jin should be the one who’s spending his nights looking up Youtube tutorials on how to make different kinds of braids, because he was working like an idiot all day to be able to pay for pre-school.
“Uncle Jin is never busy enough for me,” Eunmi concludes and honestly, she isn’t wrong. At this point in Jin’s life, Eunmi might just be the only other female apart from our mom that Jin actually cares for. Much like every adult in her near vicinity, she has him wrapped around her tiny pinky.
“You’re really not gonna let me sleep, are you?” I ask, ruffling her hair a little bit.
“Nope,” she announces. “I love you.”
“I love you too honey,” I laugh, already accepting that I’m really going to have to get up at 6:30. “So what is it that you wanna eat? Bacon? And what else?”
“Just bacon is good.”
She resembles me too much.
With a grunt, I get up and let her drag me to the kitchen. It took her less time to eat the bacon than it took me to prepare it. I smile as I focus on the cup in my hands, watching her run over to the living room and plant herself in front of the TV.
Cartoons and coffee can save any dad’s life. I get to have my caffeine medicine while Eunmi’s eyes are glued to the screen, watching a cartoon she’s probably already seen 10 times before.
I remember I used to be like that too. It didn’t matter how many times I’ve watched it – I would always laugh at the same scenes, same jokes. I don’t think that’s a trait special to me and her – I’m pretty sure every other five year old acts the same. But I only have one attached by the hip, thank god.
Cartoon time also is a good time for parent conversations – the kid is too focused on an animated cat to listen to grown up stuff. Which is exactly why my phone rang at the perfect moment.
“Morning,” I answer the call, pausing to drink my coffee. “Everything okay?”
“Yep,” she answers, and I can her she’s running around, doing something around her house. “Did you pick Eunmi up from the birthday party?”
“No, I left her there,” I deadpan. “See, I knew I was missing something but like always, sleep was simply more important.”
“Not funny, jackass,” she still laughs. “Did Jinyoung’s mom bug you again?”
“Why did I even tell you about that?” I sigh, regretting it again, for the hundredth time. More often than not, I say things without thinking and again, more often than not, I end up regretting it greatly.
“Because you were too scared to pick Eunmi up from a play date and you asked me to do it,” she laughs at me. “But seriously, if that woman keeps bugging you, you need to do something about it.”
“I sent in Namjoon to pick her up along with Jiyoo while I waited outside,” I admit.
“How very grown up and mature of you Jungkook.”
“I’d like to see you if Jinyoung’s dad offered to-“
“Okay, okay, enough,” she laughs. “Did she have fun?”
“I spent 30 minutes trying to get the face paint off of her face, you tell me,” I sigh, remembering that I have to wash half of the bathroom today before it remains colored.
“Yep, I know enough. I was going to ask you something. Can you take care of her for the next for days straight? I’ll be in Taiwan until Wednesday, my boss called me last night, he needs a translator and the bastard is too cheap to pay for one, so he just assumes I’d volunteer to do it. If you can’t do it, I’ll drop her off at mom and dad’s.”
“No, it’s okay,” I tell her, mentally going over my plans for this week. “I don’t have anything other than work this week so it’s okay.”
“Are you sure?” she checks.
“Yuki, she’s my kid too,” I laugh. “Not a plant that’s a nuisance to water.”
“I know but we planned it differently and I don’t want to be unfair,” she sighs.
“Yuki, don’t worry about it, okay?” I interrupt her, not wanting her to feel bad about this. “We have joint custody for a reason. It’s not the first time we’ve changed plans. If I couldn’t do it, I’d tell you.”
“Thanks,” she sighs in relief. “It’s just so annoying. I’m still trying to find a better company.”
“I know you are,” I mumble. “But don’t worry about it. We could co-parent for five years without any major issues. So just relax, do your trip and you can pick her up when you come back.”
“Can I talk to her? What’s she’s doing?”
“Well, I’m not sure – Tom and Jerry might be more interesting than you are, but I’ll check,” I can hear her cursing me. “Eunmi, come on, Mom wants to talk to you.”
Of course, she runs and drops the cartoon instantly. I laugh at her as she starts talking about everything that she wants us to do while Mom is away on a business trip. It might be bitter-sweet for Yuki to listen to, since she’ll be stuck in business meetings for four whole days, but what can she do?
As long as Eunmi doesn’t suffer, I’m okay with everything. She wasn’t even a year old when Yuki and I called it quits, so she can’t remember – if she can’t remember, she can’t miss it. Despite that, both Yuki and I have been bending over backwards to try and compensate for the fact that she’s growing up with separated parents.
That’s what I admire about Yuki. Our love died a very long time ago, but not once did she let it stop her from being a good mom and just a decent human being. If I was the only one being like that, I don’t even want to imagine how that would feel like.
There are horrible parents left and right. Dads that don’t care about their kids, don’t pay alimony, don’t spend enough time with them. Moms that don’t let dads see their kids, moms more focused on themselves and not their kid. I’ve seen a lot of that from the nuts parents I sometimes have to socialize with – the only normal group are Namjoon and Yoongi hyung and their wives. And while Yuki and I are not exactly the ideal example, we’re doing a damn good job.
Both of us managed to graduate while having a baby and not being together. Both of us have decent jobs. Both of us can put differences aside and work together for our little girl.
Would it be easier if we were together? Surely. But love died. We weren’t for each other and we were absolutely not ready for being parents. But we managed. Somehow, we managed. Maybe our relationship was the price we paid for that but hell, I’d pay it again.
As long as Eunmi doesn’t suffer in any way, I’m good.
“And then we’re going to watch ‘Frozen’,” Eunmi rolls her eyes. “Yes, again. Okay. Okay. I love you too mom. Here’s dad,” she gives me the phone back, not pausing for a second before running off to the TV.
“All good?” I ask Yuki.
“Yeah, I’m just gonna miss her,” she sighs.
“It’s four days, not four years. You’ll live.”
“You cried the first time I took her with me after a weekend with you,” Yuki points out.
“We do not talk about that,” I remind her.
“You’re a pain in the ass but you’re one hell of a dad,” she chuckles. “Take care of her, call me if you need anything and don’t forget to give her vitamins. Two in-“
“In the morning,” I laugh. “Again, I’m her father, not her babysitter. Relax, deep breaths and have a safe trip. You can call whenever, facetime her.”
“Thanks Kook, I’ll call you guys tonight.”
“Talk to you then,” I end the call, finishing the rest of my coffee in one gulp. “Come on Eunmi, we need to get you dressed,” I announce.
“Where are we going?” her tiny little face lights up. No wonder, the kid is a firecracker. A type of kid that likes pirates more than princesses, but still asks to watch Frozen. A kid that will try to climb a tree but then run to me in tears if she scrapes her knee. She loves an adventure but often regrets it.
“We’re going to wake Uncle Jin up,” I laugh when I see how big her smile became. She loves Uncle Jin just as much as she loves me, if not more. “He might be hungover, but Uncle duties are calling him.”
“Okay,” she grabs my hand and I take her to her room, to find some clothes for today. “Dad?”
“Hmm?”
“What does hungover mean?”
Shit.
                                                             ...
I check once again, leaning over to look at her sleepy face. Sure enough, her lips are parted as she snuggles into the pillow that’s almost as big as her.
Slowly, I close the door, careful not to rouse her awake – if she doesn’t get her afternoon nap, Eunmi gets cranky. Uber cranky. Super, mega, ultra uber cranky. She’s a true angel for 95% of the time but the 5%? Good lord have mercy on my soul.
So yeah, she needs to nap and we need to be quiet.
“She’s out,” I tell Seokjin in a low voice as I join him back in the living room, laughing when I see him looking as if he’s going to fall asleep at any given second. He is one step away from turning into that Tom&Jerry gif where the cat is putting toothpicks between his eyelids to keep his eyes open. “Your night was rougher than usual, I see?”
“Yes indeed,” he grunts as he sinks deeper down the couch. “I had to do my strut of shame halfway from across the town.”
“Why didn’t you just sleep over?” I ask as I make a place for myself on the armchair, also known as the most uncomfortable armchair in the history of mankind. Jin has a thing for fancy, modern furniture, which means that every surface in his apartment is sharp and black, including said armchair.
“Because I’ve found out a bit too late that she has a boyfriend.”
“Ouch.”
“Not really,” he shrugs. “She’s the one who cheated, not me. I didn’t know. I just didn’t want to stick around and get my ass kicked because she’s a cheater.”
“How long do you think you’ll be able to keep up with this, huh?” I ask, out of pure curiosity. I have no right to judge him but I have the right to try to understand. “You’re 28 and you can’t settle down.”
“Why should I?” he asks, and honestly, his question is as good as mine.
“I’m just wondering how you’re not tired of that?” I shrug. “I mean, your life is always the same. It’s been the same for years. Random girls every weekend. I get that it can be fun every now and then but all the time? Don’t you just get tired of it?”
“I do get tired. And when I get tired, I don’t go out,” he shrugs his shoulders, closing his eyes and sighing as he makes himself more comfortable on the couch. “Settling down isn’t always ideal. Look at you.”
“What’s wrong with me?” I ask and judging by the snort Jin lets out, a lot of things are wrong with me. “Say what you want to say about my life but Eunmi is the best possible thing that could have happened to me.”
“I never said anything about Eunmi,” Jin sits up suddenly, glaring at me. “That little girl is the best thing that happened to me and she’s only my niece. Plus she’s way cooler than you are.”
“She’s five,” I roll my eyes. “And if you didn’t refer to her, what did you refer to?”
“Settling down didn’t really work out for you, did it?” he lets a chuckle. “You have the sweetest kid on the entire planet and you’re a good dad – but what about you? You had Yuki and you wanted to settle down, now you’ve been single for 4 years. Your amazing dad skills have absolutely nothing to do with your inability to get your dick wet.”
“Okay, you’re exaggerating,” I deadpan. “I did go on a few dates and I did have sex with-“
“It was two years ago!” he yells at me and I shush him, not wanting him to wake Eunmi up. He rolls his eyes but when he continues talking, his voice is lowered. “It was two years ago Kookie.  I get it, I really do. Eunmi has been your priority since day one, as she should be. But you’re 25 years old Jungkook. 25. You should have a life. I get that co-parenting with an ex isn’t easy and I know you have better things to do most of the time, but when will you ever think about yourself? What are you gonna do, be alone until Eunmi goes to college?”
“If that’s what happens, I’m okay with it,” I confirm it, causing Jin to shake his head in what appears to be disappointment. “It’s just not happening Jin. It’s not happening. I don’t have time to go and meet people. I work and I get home and I’m tired and I do have hobbies. And whenever I have a day off, I am with my daughter because no matter what happens, she comes first. There’s no time to go out and date and be a regular 25-year-old because regular 25-year-olds don’t have daycare to pay for and a college fund to save for and tea parties to have on weekends with stuffed and fuzzy rabbits!”
“It’s that way because you want it to be that way.”
“No, it’s that way because it happened that way,” I tell him. “None of this was planned. We never planned on having Eunmi but when we got her, god, I was the happiest man alive. I never planned of doing this whole co-parenting shit – but it happened. I didn’t think I’d ever break it off with Yuki, especially not after we had a kid but it happened. It’s the way it is and I’m fine with it because no matter what I do in life, Eunmi will always be the best thing that ever happened to me.”
“I’m not saying that she isn’t,” Jin rolls his eyes. “I’m saying that every now and then, you need to remind yourself that you’re not just a dad, but also a guy. A regular guy.”
“I don’t have time to be a regular guy!”
“Then make it!” Jin all but yells at me again, earning another glare. “This Friday. Yuki will be back from the trip, she’ll want to be with Eunmi, you don’t work weekends. You have no excuse. This weekend, you and I are going out, you’re going to get laid and come Saturday morning, back to being a Dad you go.”
“Hyung-“
“Don’t hyung me,” Jin glares at me. “Or yes, hyung me. I’m you’re hyung and you will listen. You will go out and have fun and find a random girl and remember that you’re more than just a dad.”
I know that he has a point, I truly do. Just that when I say I don’t have time, I really don’t have time. Not the time, nor the energy and not even the opportunity to meet someone.
But he has me now. Eunmi will be with Yuki this weekend and I have no good excuse up my sleeve.
“Fine.”
                                                           …
 “But dad!”
I laugh at her whining – she even went the extra length and stomped her little foot on the ground.
We’re having a cranky morning, that’s for sure – when I did her hair, I thought she might just bite my hand off. She was sulky during the drive and now she doesn’t want to go to go into the kindergarten.
“Don’t but me,” I warn her, feeling fatherly pride when she doesn’t react in any way – I have zero authority in me so it’s nice to see that at least my five year old is buying it. “You have to go to kindergarten, sweetie. And I have to go to work. You know I’d much rather spend time with you but kindergarten is non-negotiable.”
“What does non-negotble mean?”
I do my best to hide my smile at her mispronunciation, not wanting to hurt her feelings. “It means you do what I say.”
“But dad!”
“But Eunmi!” I whine, laughing when her frown turns into a scolding one. “We’ll do something super fun when we get home. I promise. Now run along.”
“You’re very mean today but I still love you,” she announces before turning around and running into the building.
“I love you too!” I yell after her. I’m mean. Wow. I suppose I’d better get used to it, I’m pretty sure she’s going to hate me when she gets to her teens. The joy of parenthood no one warns you about.
“She isn’t feeling you today, is she?” I turn around, startled for a second, only to realize it’s Hyejin, waving at her daughter as she follows Eunmi into the school.
“Nope, she isn’t,” I laugh. “I honestly don’t know how you and Namjoon plan to handle two,” I chuckle, remembering how both of them told me that they’re planning on at least two.
“Ah, step by step my sweet, summer child,” she laughs as she gets on her tiptoes to ruffle my hair. “Leave your Saturday free, you’re coming over to our place. We’re celebrating me getting older yet again.”
“I still have to see if Eunmi will be with Yuki all weekend or if-“
“Bring her too,” Hyejin laughs. “The kids can have a sleepover while the few of us drink, eat and complain about anything and everything.”
“You sure? I have a lot to complain about.”
“We all do, my sweet summer child,” she does it again, ruffles my hair as if I’m an actual kid. Well, compared to her I just might be. They’re only a few years older than I am but she and Namjoon have their life under complete control. Control that I can only hope to have one day.
“Fine,” I agree, knowing that this outing won’t be as wild as whatever Jin has planned. “What should I bring you? Any special birthday wishes?”
“Nothing, anything,” she shrugs and walks away, before stopping suddenly after just two steps. “Just don’t get me anything with my age written on it. We’re not talking about that.”
“Deal,” I laugh and wave at her as I get into my car.
I brace myself for the work day ahead. I brace myself for the afternoon of watching Frozen or something I have already seen 20 times before. I brace myself for Friday, despite knowing absolutely nothing can prepare me for Jin’s antics. And now I even have to brace myself for Saturday, when I’m expected to socialize with grown adults and act like I belong there.
I don’t. I might have a job, I might have a kid and yeah, my age is there but nope.
I just have no idea what I’m doing. I’m stuck in the permanent state of ‘winging it’.
What a life.

Patton the Disabled
Patton hadn’t been born disabled with no feeling from the waist down and without the ability to move his legs. No, he had been able to walk and run around, until he was 13. It had changed when he was 13.
--(back in time)--
Patton sat in a car with his dad, it was late at night and they were just coming back from getting some ice cream at a place out of town that sold homemade ice cream.
“Hey Dad, maybe tomorrow we could go to the zoo!” Patton exclaimed happily.
“Yeah, maybe kiddo. I could bearly contain myself at the thought of seeing all those animals.” He laughed.
Patton laughed too, “Oh! You’re too punny!”
“Why thank you!”
Patton grinned happily, “Dad I miss hanging out with you.”
“Me too Patty…. Sorry I work so much.”
Patton nodded and sighed, “I’m glad we’re hanging out now!”
“Me too! Love you so much.”
“Love you too!”
Patton’s Dad smiled sadly and continued driving. He really was missing out on his son’s life. It saddened him sometimes realizing how much he was missing out on these days. “So what’s your favorite show lately?”
“OH!! Avatar!” Patton exclaimed.
“That’s really nice!” He nodded smiling, in the distance he made out a lit up ferris wheel, “Hey buddy want to go to that place over there?”
“Really! Yeah.” Patton nodded. “You’re the best dad.” “I know I am a buddy.” He laughed softly, he got off the highway and drove on the back roads to the carnival. His phone started ringing, he grabbed it and answered without looking, “Hello, Spencer Love speaking.” He said into the phone.
Patton was quiet while he dad was on the phone, he knew not to make a noise.
“Yeah, I’m driving right now, what is it? Mhm ok…” he nodded smiling, “sounds perfect. I’m so glad. Alright bye.” He hung up and put his phone down. He had only looked down for a second as he put down his phone and picked up his water bottle. “DAD!” Patton yelled out in fear.
His dad’s head snapped up, there was a large truck speeding right towards them in their lane. He swerved away but not well enough.
The impact was hard, a loud noise sounded, a crack, glass shattered, blood sprayed, then everything went black.
The truck had impacted the car against it’s driver side door, the car had learched and rolled immediately into the trees surrounding the road.
Hours passed by time sirens were coming by, a passerby on the lonely not often traveled road had seen the result of the accident.
EMTs and Firefighters got the cars open and got Patton, His dad, and the driver responsible into the ambulances. Spencer Love was pronounced dead at the scene his whole left side crushed many cuts and he was impaled by glass, he had already bled out. The other driver was also pronounced dead at the scene. Patton Love was alive but weak, His ribs broken, the seatbelt had saved him though caused damage in order to do so. Patton was cut with many shards of glass, it was assumed he had a concussion though they didn’t know the extent of the damage until they got to the hospital.
Later it was discovered that in the accident when the seatbelt had restrained Patton it had separated a vertebrae and broke causing it to cut Patton’s spinal cord. He was paralyzed. It wasn’t the paralysis that had devastated Patton when he finally woke and was told everything, no it wasn’t the feeling of nothing where his legs were, or the news he could never walk again. No, what had devastated Patton was knowing he’d never see his dad again, his father was dead.
Patton didn’t talk to anyone for a while, he just fell into a depression.
--(back to current time)--
Patton laid in bed silently staring at the ceiling. His cat jumped up onto his bed and laid on his stomach. A while after everything his mom had gotten him a cat which he built up an immunity to. “Hey.” he whispered softly.
It just purred.
Patton sighed then slowly pushed himself up then into his wheelchair. It was blue and covered in various stickers from cartoons and shows, on the back of the backrest on it was a patch of the 4 elements of avatar.  Patton pulled his cat into his lap then went to the kitchen, the house was all one floor so it was easy to get from place to place. He quietly got a snack of a bunch of cookies. He looked at the counter at a flyer, some support group, he sighed ignoring it. Patton rolled himself to the living room and sat on the couch. He knew what his mom thought of him, always staying home, not making friends, and avoiding people in school. She was disappointed probably. But what would Patton do? It’s not like he could run around and play games, he couldn’t be like a normal teen his age and go to parties, not that he’d want to. So he just stayed in reading comic books, and watching TV alone. Patton’s only friend was a blind guy he had met at the park once, they had a dog so Patton instantly went over. He had been with his mom who wanted him to be out of the house. But nothing came of the interaction.
Patton sat silently watching his cartoon, being drawn in and forgetting about his surroundings and worries. He relaxed a bit as he watched this pleasurable distraction of life.
