Ever think about how the entire run of YJ98 was damn near perfect? And how it's ending had the best damn payoff of any series ever?

What’s ur favorite scene from YJ98?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I….have too many…and I reached the photo limit aaah.
1) the beginning scene where red tornado wakes up and assigns em the Freudian roles
2) the Halloween party scene,,,just the general way their friendship is still forming in the beginning
3) WHEN TIM UNMASKS FOR THEM AND HE LOOKS SO HAPPY😭
4) the whole binoculars thing is just so funny
5) cissiecassie. Nuff said
6) okay the entire baseball arc is my Absolute Favorite. I love when they make casts play baseball for no reason. Also Tim’s so funny like “what are they gonna do? Get scared of a kid in red and green tights?” Only for the aliens to immediately go “LOOK A KID IN RED AND GREEN TIGHTS LETS SURRENDER” fjfjfjdjjd
7) the entire campfire scene in the beginning issues but specifically the ending when everyone’s asleep except Kon and he’s lamenting about not being able to grow up and be left behind and quotes Peter Pan. I think about this scene daily, waaaah
8) the part where the supercycle goes crazy, the jokes were just so funnny idk
9) the iconic “SUPER OR NOT, I’LL DECK YOU IF YOU DON’T SHUT UP!”
10) the apokolips arc in general tbh but specifically the part where Cassie is scolding tf out of kon like yessss. Also her just showing hella good leadership skills in that arc chefs kiss chefs kisssssss
Also more but not shown cuz I ran out of photos:
11) Kon stopping cissie from killing a man and then later helping cassie try to calm cissie down. Then when Cassie’s mom enters Kon flies and carries cissie while plastered to the ceiling. I loveee cissie n kon a lot
12) the part where Bart tries to cheer kon up and it’s ends up w kon on top of Bart yelling HEY BART DO YOU WANT SUSHI you know the one
13) the part where red tornado points to Anita and is like who’s this did u do the necessary procedure for letting in new members or whatever and barts just like “nah we just let her in” and red tornado is like “of course u did 😑”
14) the yj squad got locked out of their own hideout and kon wants to break open the door bc he doesn’t wanna miss his Wendy show but Tim tells him not too bc the door is expensive lmao. And then Bart uses his powers to enter and call/annoy Tim while he tries to open the door from the inside. And in the background kons just like “let me in let me in let me in” until Tim is just like CAN U SHUT THE FUCK UP and they start fucking arguing about whether Wendy the werewolf stalker is a stupid show. Meanwhile cissie is getting her ass beat inside the headquarters. Kon breaks the door anyways. It’s so perfectly chaotic .
Okay I’ll stop now but OUGH, lots of scenes I like. It’s also very funny n chaotic all the time

So I finally read Young Justice after 2 years of promising I would and I gotta admit 10/10 should have read it sooner. You have influenced me tho and I cannot stop thinking about Slo-bo and what would things have been like if he lived? His death to me just read as the writer just wanting to get rid of him. I think he could have found a way to live. Really I just didn't want him to die and I knew it was coming.
There are a lot of dead/decommissioned characters that had so much potential and that's why they are great characters, that them dying is not what made them great or tragic but the loss of what we might have had and what they were able to do while we had them.
Ultimately I believe his "death" was not something that was just suddenly decided on by Peter David and TPTB during the time, they likely had a very clear idea of what was going to happen to him from the moment they created him, so I am extremely hesitant to say that he was "killed off" just for getting rid of him so they didn't have to write him anymore (which does happen, see Heroes in Crisis).
There was a level of CARE involved in him, and it shows because YOU as a reader CARE about him when we lost him and never heard from him again.
Getting into the meat of your question though; if Slo-Bo "lived", what would become of him...
The comic pretty much tells us through implication...
Tumblr media
Young Justice 1998 #55
Hypothetically, had Slo-Bo not "died" via Darkseid's omega effect (his soul was flung a million years into the future and imprisoned in his own statue), and hypothetically if his genetic viability was stabilized - we would likely see him and Anita together.
Anita had a date with Lil' Lobo and that was a whole issue... Slo-Bo is NOT Lobo but he retains his memories of their date and he has some intense fondness for Anita and shows more interest in her than just thinking she's hot.
Tumblr media
Young Justice 1998 #48
He shows empathy for her, saved her life, tried to save her father and holds her while she weeps and offers comfort. Things that Lobo would not do.
Additionally, in Anita's own subconscious she places Slo-Bo in her life while she deals with the mourning of her father and the rage at the one responsible through a dream (she dreams in black and white).
Tumblr media
Young Justice 1998 #49
Anita sees Slo-Bo as someone she trusts, and even when Cassie turns her back on him and kicks him off the team for aiding Greta in breaking her father out prison (which helps accelerates Darkseid's indoctrination of her which led to the finale of the series) she still cared for him and wanted to pursue a friendship.
She worried for him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Young Justice 1998 #54
So, hypothetically speaking, had Slo-Bo "lived" and was not actively dying, then he would likely stay with Anita. He also was amazing with her infant parents and probably could be a support role for Anita.

Young Justice 1998 #54
Tumblr media
Young Justice 1998 #55
He would likely stay with her, and maybe when the next generation of comics rolled out (Teen Titans v.3) he would appear now and then but the narrative focus of Teen Titans was so drastically different from Young Justice I struggle to see where he would 'fit' as a consistent character.
I missed the hell out of Anita, Cissie and Greta when Teen Titans began, but retrospectively they each dodged a bullet and I really fear what would have been done to them if they stayed on.
Slo-Bo would have likely just have been written as a carbon copy of Lobo, albeit blind, even when YJ made it clear he was his own person. That's not something I want to see, that's not something I feel ANYONE wants to see.
I love Lobo for being Lobo.
Slo-Bo and he are two different bastiches.
Slo-Bo's fate in a hypothetical universe where he lived seems to point that he would have had some sort of relationship with Anita, likely romantic considering writing conventions of the time, but that is entirely up to the reader and their own interpretations.
It's still fun to dream.
Honestly, I would LOVE to have seen a blind Slo-Bo kicking ass, showing up every now and then to do something EXTREMELY morally dubious but for everyone's benefit.

cissiecassie for the ship bingo :)
due to the fact that none of the squares sum up my feelings about them i will just straight answer this one. i only really know them from YJ ‘98 so far but i think they’re very cute :) i like how they’re able to become friends very fast and the one-sided love rivalry setup with kon doesn’t last which is refreshing, and i love how much cassie cares for and misses cissie even if she tends to project her own feelings in this regard onto cissie who very much does not want to return to arrowette. i enjoy that they retain a close, if somewhat bittersweet friendship. they are t4t. cassie is cissie’s link to the team in a lot of ways. they have better chemistry than koncassie. what the hell was up with dark crisis: YJ’s writing. have some panels of them goodnight

i want to expand on my notes from last post
-dick and donna still exist as a friendship but I also feel like all of the more recent depictions of wonderfam characters are kind of flat lmao
-cassie and artemis were important to me :( i liked artemis a lot and then she basically got forgotten in n52 and then putting her with the outlaws was very annoying. i feel like mentorship plot lines get left behind in modern comics ??? like sometimes a good duo is a teenage girl and a grown woman who knows very little about how to exist in the world but wants to help said teenage girl as part of her own journey to self identification
-okay i have so many feelings about ww n52 bc it was the first comic i ever read but BASICALLY. i liked the greek god shit. i love zola and i miss her. i liked that hera was just a bitch. i regularly reread this part of the run. i hated the donna storyline and could not continue
-also i would probably get back to reading wonderfam if ferdinand and vanessa kapatelis were regular characters..the wonder woman embassy was fun.... idc if diana broke a man's neck on live television..
-justice for mia dearden and cissie king-jones i am not even joking

Favorite color
Ever since he was born, his world was filled with colors, a beautiful rainbow at his fingers. He’d look down at them at night, or when his parent’s leaving made him want to cry, or when a horror story told by a classmate in the playground scared him half to death, and find comfort in their silky touch and bright hues.
He was seven when he learned the meaning behind them. And the blaring lack of red signaled the first, but not last, heartbreak of his life.
Blue, green, purple, black… and bright yellow. A teacher, a missed opportunity, a first love, life and death… and friendship. No eternal love for Tim, it seemed.
Well. He hadn’t really expected any different. Who would love him forever, when his own parents didn’t?
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
He had forgotten it, and it escaped his notice for many years. Until one night, following Dick Grayson as he jumped from rooftop to rooftop, when he noticed his purple string moving in synch with him. Pointing towards his hero, the boy who had given him his very first hug that night at the circus. His First Love, his Not Meant to Be.
That night, Tim packed up early and went home. He just couldn’t stand the red uniform contrasting sharply with his purple thread.
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
When Dick left, he thought maybe now he could go back to his old habits, to run the streets looking for flashes of the new robin without the baggage of avoiding to look at his own hand.
No such luck.
The green made a whole lot of sense when news of Jason’s death reached him, tough.
It wouldn't be the last night he’d cry himself to sleep, holding the frayed ends of his fated Almost.
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.
Becoming Robin was both easy and painful. Comfortable, because the blue string pointing him towards Bruce meant this was always supposed to happen; heartbreaking, because it took a kid dying. Because Tim might not have a romantic soul mate, but his hands, that had made a green string break to grant him access to the blue path, were stained red nonetheless.
Wearing Robin’s red, with all the hurt and bad memories it carried, felt like a subpar punishment.
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.
Meeting his Yellows almost passed his awareness. In the middle of a crisis, every adult missing, no mentor to guide him, he couldn’t exactly spare a thought for the kids looking shellshocked at him, each other and their hands.
After, when Young Justice was officially formed, he firmly avoided looking at Bart, Superboy and Wondergirl. Their eyes followed him, pleading, but he’d learned no good ever came from strings that weren’t red.
And the red in his soul wasn’t from love.
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
Despite himself and his best efforts, they grew closer. Life or death situations had that effect on people, after all.
His own reluctance, which had in turn provoqued Kon’s anger, Bart’s dejection and Cassie’s confusion, slowly began to crumble. He was helpless in the face of their unrelenting friendship.
The strings grew shinier, stronger, healthier, the yellow a stark contrast to frayed (dead) green, cold blue, distant purple. Scary black.
Tim still despised the rainbow in his fingers, but… he could maybe withstand the sparks of yellow he’d catch from the corner of his eye, knowing just who were at the other end.
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
It wasn’t exactly team training. Greta, Anita, Cissie, Slobo and the others didn’t join them, for whatever reason. It was always the four of them, leaning on and learning from each other.
When Kon’s strength frustrated him, when the world around him seemed to be made of bubbles and sea foam, Tim stayed late at night every weekend to help. Every spare moment directed towards coaching him, again and again, through exercises he had to come by himself (Clark was no big help, here), until exhaustion made his muscles tremble and Kon’s anger had burned out from frustration to soft acceptance that he just wasn’t like the rest. Until he could hold still and let Superboy trace the side of his jaw with a careful finger, and exchange proud little smiles when his face remained unbroken.
Bart being raised by video games had the expected outcome; he had little to no practical, day to day life knowledge. He was the closest living thing to a Looney Toon. Which was fun and good when crime fighting, his crazy ideas often saved their ass last minute, but unacceptable if integrating him into society was to be considered. So Tim would take him out, hand in hand so he didn’t forget himself and ran on his own, to leisurely stroll down busy streets, arcades, schools, libraries. Talk to people in parks and visit recreational centers, barter with street vendors and ask the little boy selling flowers on Jump Street how his mother is doing. Whatever Tim could think of that would soften Bart’s cultural shock.
In that regard, Cassie was a godsend. With her own attentive mentor, and raised like a normal girl until she obtained her powers, she was the most well balanced member on their team. Tim had started to feel a little restless (how can he help her, how can he convince her to stay…), when he noticed her frustrated, sad face whenever Donna was mentioned on Tv, when any reporter or older hero compared the two Wonder Girls. Familiar as he was with imposter syndrome, Tim would rest his arm around her shoulders and turn to the rest of the team, loudly reminding everyone to ‘speed up guys, Cassie here’s already done with her training routine’ or slump tiredly against her while complaining about ‘how immature they are, I can’t deal, thank God you’re here to remind me competent people do exist’.
It was familiar, to help them along. To nudge them forward and watch their backs as they went, firmly making their way towards being the awesome men and woman he knew they’d become. Lending a hand here and there, working on steading their foundations, so he’d be remembered fondly when they inevitably took off and went on with their lives.
He was used to that, to looking for ways his fated people would want him around. Being a good brother to Dick, an eager student to Bruce (a good mourner for Jason).
What he wasn’t used to was reciprocation, though.
Tim had learned how to fly from the best, from Dick Grayson himself. The boy with no powers that looked at gravity and laughed, sayed “thanks, but no”. But there were some things only a true meta could experience, ways to move his body just so, to take advantage of wind currents to either speed or slow his movements. Kon also visited him in Gotham, unknowing or uncaring about its meta restriction, risking pissing off Batman himself just to spend time with Tim.
There was Bart, kind, cute, friendly Bart, who would stop eating and playing around to drag Tim to the training grounds and run laps around him, as silently as he knew how. Making Tim used to fighting against someone quicker than him, lighter on their feet. To count incredibly soft steps even when they made no sound, and use other senses to pinpoint exactly where the next hit was going to come from. And after they were done, there was always a warm smile and some sweet treat (always different, as if Bart was determined to figure out Tim’s preferences by trial and mistake), the new knowledge and delicious prize worth the dirt in unmentionable places.
As stated before, Cassie was an absolute godsend. But it wasn’t just because she was easier to deal with than the rest. Or because she understood the pressure he had on his shoulders, being raised in the shadow of two incredibly renowned heroes. When Tim’s position as leader had been taken away (after Bruce’s plans for taking out the league became known, and ‘what if he has the same for us’), she took him aside. Hugging him, promising him the team’s anger was going to pass, that she could see why those contingencies might be necessary, that even if she was officially in charge, she’d always defer to him when it mattered. Her trust in him and his heart was unshakable, firm as the arm he’d put round her when self doubt arose its head.
(It wasn’t supposed to be this way; if they reciprocated, they didn’t owe him, and then how was he supposed to keep them close? To convince him to stay, to love the boy with loveless fate?)
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
Jason was unexpected, but Tim couldn’t hold it against him. Even there, bleeding out in the Tower, he felt… at ease.
His predecessor was back. Bruce’s son was back. The prodigal Robin had returned, by some miracle. Tim’s shift had come to an end; even if he died here, he had succeeded in keeping Bruce sane, and now that the real deal was in town, Jason could take over and everything would go back as it should have been. Everyone (B, Dick, Babs, Alfred) would be happier. Maybe they’d mourn him, for a bit, but with such a joyous occasion as a beloved one returning home, it wasn’t like grief could stay for long.
Someone yelled, near. Warm hands shaking as they touched his face infinitely careful, small fingers intertwined with his in a very familiar hold, a strong and slender arm around his back as he’s being held in a half hug. Cries, pleas, demands.
And while nothingness claims Tim, drags him to a well of black, yellow still clings to his eyelids. A touch that keeps him warm even though unconsciousness is supposed to be so cold.
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
Death and life. Damian.
Tim can see the first one, what with all of the brat’s attempts to end him. It’s the second one that has him stumped.
He knows not all strings go both ways. His purple one, for example; even if Dick was Tim’s first love, everyone and their mother knew Babs’ was his. Dick had a string pointing towards Tim, but it was a mentor-student one. Same as the one he and Bruce shared. Jason, too; Tim’s side of the string was the green of Almost, while the former Robin’s color was black (Tim taking his place as Robin, and being the only one in the family offering his hand again and again despite his murderous actions, was in some poetic sense the death of an old role, and the birth of a new family dynamic).
Damian, though… Well. He was almost sure they had the same color for each other (how else to explain such dangerous rage), but really, unless the kid was willing to share, it was only suppositions for now.
His only comfort remained the three beams of light, of a yellow almost golden in its healthy shine.
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
When Tim changed his suit following Conner’s death, everyone thought it was an homenage. A way to pay tribute to a hero that was his closest, dearest friend. A way to never forget (as if he could, ever, with the lifeless line of pale beige, once yellow, dangling from his twitching finger).
They weren’t wrong, but it wasn’t just that.
Red had always pained him, in a deep, almost forgotten place. A thorn on his side, scratching against his heart. For the longest part, yellow had filled him to the brim, until hurt and yearning had no place inside him. With Kon’s warmth missing, red bleed in the place between Cassie and Bart, despite their best efforts to close ranks and keep it out.
Their sad eyes followed him during the funeral, knowing what the color meant to him. Just how much he was hurting himself, right now. But, lost in their own grief, there was little to be done.
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
By the time Tim got the call about Bart, he already knew.
He ignored the ringing phone, holding a sobbing Cassie in his arms, both desperately clutching at their only remaining yellow string.
Between the two of them, color like blood seeped.
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
Every so often, when Ra’s voice in his ear became too familiar for comfort, where lines draw in sand begane to erode and blur, he’d raise his hand, eyes locked on the three yellow strings, and watch as Cassie’s moved, disappearing end pointing always in her direction.
He was fairly sure that, wherever she was, she was doing the same. Reminding herself he was alive as well, hadn’t left her behind.
Her absence from his life was necessary, finding Bruce a priority, and the red of his new suit (his new name) was proof of just how deeply it all ran. But it didn’t mean he wasn’t yearning for her lighter color.
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
They were back, and he was hiding.
He wanted to run to their arms, hug them and never let them out of his view, far from where he could protect them (keep them). He wanted Kon’s hand on his face, delicate despite his strength, un-trembling when Tim’s own would softly join it on his check and held it there; Bart’s fingers between his own, too steady and constant for the boy who didn’t know how to sit still; Cassie’s arm on his waist, his own on her back, as they shared the weight of the world in their shoulders.
And because he wanted so damn much, he couldn’t do it.
He was covered in red. His first love discarded him, his Almost died so Tim could have his Teacher, his Life and Death was so heavily focused on the last bit… his hands lacked red, but oh, how much he leaked of it in his soul.
He couldn’t let them die again, be stained by his twisted fate; even if it meant he could’t hold them close any longer.
Letting go was more painful than holding on, but he was used to it by now.
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
They find him. Of course they do; even without Kon’s senses, they all have beams of gold pointing them towards him, like Dorothy’s yellow brick road.
Tim knew it, was ready for it. And as such, had prepared the words that would push them away, to where it was safer.
Or so he thought.
“We are not leaving you.”
“Who cares about fate? You are ours, Rob.”
“It’s been long enough, Tim. Time to come home, we are done waiting.”
He denies them, shakes despite his usual iron clad control over his body, heart wrenching painfully at their decided expressions.
“You don’t understand. I’m Red Robin now. I’m not… I’m no good for you.”
“I could literally snap your back with the flick of a finger, shut up with that ‘I’m dangerous’ bullshit.”
“Yeah, even Bart could be dangerous given the right circumstances, you aren’t the only one here to watch for. It doesn’t mean shit to us.”
“That’s right, I- wait, what do you mean ‘even Bart?”
“Not the point, Imp.”
They don’t get it. He takes his mask off, wants to give them a good look at his eyes, to read his emotions there and finally realize what’s wrong about him.
“Almost all my strings have something to do with death, or were touched by it. Don’t you see it?” He raises his hand, despite knowing they can’t see his strings, only their own. “I have no red here, only blood. I can’t… I’m not safe to love. I’ll never be loved.”
Kon snaps, something he had rarely done since their Young Justice days, hands on Tim’s shoulders, seemingly torn between shaking him and pulling him close. The latter wins.
(As it always does)
“This is love, you idiot! WE love you!”
Tim chokes on something (saliva, his own breath, emotions). Gasps, tears coming to his eyes unbridled.
He feels two pairs of arms joining the first one, a cocoon of warmth and unconditional love forming around him.
Bart’s sad eyes watch Tim from under Kon’s hug. “I don’t have red either, Rob. Romantic, platonic, filial… who gives a fuck”, he shrugs, before hiding his face against the red of Tim’s uniform. Uncaring of all it represents for him or perhaps doing his best to defy it.
Cassie just holds them all in the circle of her own embrace, forehead to the back of Tim’s head. Her hold is the tightest, and he just realizes- she lost all of them, didn’t she? To death and grief, all too far to touch, and now that they’re back in her arms, there’s little chance of her ever letting go again.
“Love has more than one form, Tim.”
He shudders in the middle of this weirdly emotional dog pile, and thinks. About Bruce and Dick’s pride when they successfully taught him something new. Of Jason’s reluctant smile when Tim first tugged him along to some joined patrol, sneakily edging him closer to the family with every interaction. Of Damian, who would often look down at his own hands (and Tim would honestly kill someone to know just which color the young boy had for Tim) and then at him, with something like hope in his green eyes.
He thinks… yeah. And this one…
(He gives up, closing his eyes and snuggling deeper into Kon’s chest, knees buckling but staying up thanks to his three rays of sunlight holding him in place between them.)
This one’s shape might just be his favorite.

Jon, Billy, Dawn, Don, and Colin first gala
Damian: alright, ties straight and Billy is here.
Dawn: I thought you were bringing freddy?
Billy: I was but he got a cold and threatened to leave our friendship if I didn't go!
Jon: it's okay dude, we can steal a few treats for him.
Damian: yep, after this we'll go to him.
Don: and give him all the delicious treats!
Dawn: you are your stomach.
At the gala.
Dick: hey Dami, you brought your friends over? How sweet!
Damian: yeah, though if you see us stealing just go with it we got a person who couldn't come in need.
Dawn: yeah! We'll take you down with us if you snich sir!
Colin: don't miss with them, they've mean it.
Dick: oh I know, I saw nothing.
Don: good. Where's Wally by the way?
Dick: with his big baby.
Jon: Conner?
Dick: Jason.
Billy: why?
Dick: Jason thinks if nobody stays with Wally he'll disappear, or so Roy said. I think it's cute, little wing worried about Wally.
Damian: so this Alejandro?
Dick: Jason growled at him.
Damian: ah so Wally can't help.
Dick: Bart and Conner is here so could as for their help.
Colin: okay, don and Dawn guilt trip them.
Don and Dawn: ay ay! *Runs away*
Everyone, expect billy: *goes to the kitchen*
Billy: uh sir?
Dick: kid, please call me Dick.
Billy: oh okay, uh can I tell my friend that Nightwing helped? He really likes superheroes and I know he'll love-
Dick: kid, if it makes him happy then tell him it. Now go before they leave without.
Billy, smiling: thanks! *Runs off with the rest*
After the night everyone went to freddy's house to surprise him, billy stayed of course, Bart and Kon helped them and then went back to pick up their bird, cassie and Cissie left after Tim had his partners back, Steph Cass and barbs watched Jason stubbornly told Dick off refusing to leave Wally's side thus having Wally to promise he won't leave again, Bruce and Oliver apologizing over Damian and Artemis behavior, Artemis tell miss Suzy off like everyone dreamed about doing, kate being a disaster, and Duke with Roy talking about having Lian over for their next dinner.
Alejandro did get to talk to Wally, in private and they exchange numbers promptly having red hood telling the latino king to back off. Alejandro was scared, but Alejandro wanted friend so he fearful agree to not make moves with Wally.

I just really want Steph to have friends & connections outside of Gotham, honestly she needs more friends & connections period. I know some characters can work well on their own but even Bruce has acknowledged that one of the things Steph fears most is being alone.
I want Steph to have friends! It’s one of the reasons I miss Steph & Kara’s friendship so much & why I want Steph to hang out with the Young Justice kids because they are her generation of heroes both in universe & out.
A reason that Steph should hang out with the Young Justice kids more is because she is a 90′s kid!. First appearances:
Steph: August 1992
Kon: June 1993
Bart: June 1994
Cassie: January 1996
Cissie: August 1997
Greta: June 1998
Tim is kind of an odd one out since he was created in August 1989 but his solo was in 1993 so he technically counts
But the point is that Steph is part of their generation! She’s part of their generation of heroes & it sucks people don’t group her with them more (the most we’ve really gotten is Steph’s appearances in Young Justice 2019 & she’s mostly treated as Tim’s plus one I want her integrated into the group)

Dear Yuletide Writer
Dear Yuletide Writer,
Thank you so much for writing for me! :) I can't tell you just how excited I am. This is my first Yuletide and I guess I'm super nervous, but also looking forward to it. :)
Please feel free to browse my ao3 (KitKaos) and/or tumblr to get an idea of what I stan, like, read or write. I hope I can give you some broad ideas and inspirations in this letter to help you plan. Do feel free to fall back on my general likes if the prompts don't do anything for you. Or just use the prompts, whatever works best for you. Oh, and should you, dear Yuletide Santa, want to write in German and not in English, then I'm definitely okay with that. I'm fluent in both, so whichever you feel more comfortable with. If there's something missing or if you have a question, you can reach out to me via the mods.
General likes: I'm a sucker for the old friends-to-lovers or even enemies-to-lovers (with all the drama of grudginly admitting that the other party maybe isn't all that terrible and all). Things I'll never get tired of include coffeeshop AUs, spy AUs, musical AUs, found families, fake dating, pining, crossdressing, drunken shenanigans, fish-out-of-water situations, pop culture references, etc. Just about any kind of scene you can sneak in there about cooking or eating food (also characters being picky about certains foods and other characters going to some lengths to accommodate that) will make me happy, too. I do have a thing for descriptions of food and expecially impressions of taste - and if you want to make it kinky: food play. ;) I also have a bit of a hand fetish - so descriptions of hands are always welcome. If you want to do it, I probably also won't say no to someone breaking the Fourth Wall, any kind of alternate history AU, crossovers of my fandoms, or even some lovely steampunk aesthetics.
Do Not Want: rape/dubcon/noncon, watersports, scat, humiliation, A/B/O, soulmates AU, vampire/werewolf AU, second-person pov, character bashing of any kind.
*
Fandoms
Just two more thing before I go into detail: 1. The prompts below are nothing more than ideas - feel free to ignore them if you have a better one. :) 2. Not all of the characters need to be used in every prompt; pick and choose as desired.

Dial H for Hero (DC Comics)
- Summer Pickens, Miguel Montez
The 2019 12-issue run is just pure love! There is worldbuilding galore, relatable characters, a wonderful coming-of-age and initiation plot, interdimensional shenanigans, the question how Joe Average could get addicted to sudden superpowers, and so much fun with the concept of Superhero Secret Origins. Summer is a wonderfully strong and caring female lead and Miguel is a self-conscious little oddball.
As for prompts: Seeing more of their Metropolis adventures or Red/Yellow/Blue/Black Dial transformations would definitely be a lot of fun. Also, there's this cute boy Miguel asks out in the comics and I would love to see that first date. And what about Summer? She definitely won't be reduced to sidekick!
Feel free to include any other ((teenage) superhero) cameos you feel like. Please do not pair up Summer and Miguel romantically - although I don't have any problems with a fake relationship fic for them. ;)

Masks: A New Generation (Roleplaying Game)
- any / worldbuilding
I only just disovered Masks as an RPG, and ever since I started playing, it's probably the most fun rping I've had in a long time. I love that playbooks are not by the type of power but the type of problem each teenager faces personally. Like, how do you juggle school, first love, being different in a way no one should know about, being different maybe in a way people will immediately see, adults telling you who to be, chores, and being part of a young superhero team that wants to make a name for themselves? It's hard. And the best sessions alternate between deep emotional connections, hilarious teenage drama and great action scenes.
As for prompts: I would love me some good worldbuilding - so maybe there is a reason the Scarlet Songbird is still around? What was Halcyon City like back in the days of the Golden-Age heroes? What has changed since then? How do especially the older generations view the naming conventions going around for new heroes? Is there a code to follow? Who in Halcyon City pays for all the damage to buildings and infrastructure caused by superhero-supervillain fights? What was it like back in the olden days for the Golden Age heroes as opposed to now?  Are there cultural exchange programs with any of the alien races visiting from time to time? Give me a day in the life of an average Halcyon City citizen - they don't even have to be all that close to an epic fight or something. Just their way of coping with the daily madness of a huge city housing most of the world's superheroes. If you like something a little more character-specific: The one actual-play podcast that does it best in my opinion are the Theatre of the Mind Players with their "Future Shock" and "Past Tense" seasons of Masks. And I would love to read more about these characters. Have Sparrow and Figment finally get together. Give me a glimpse of how Horizon assembled his ersatz mom. What will Helix and Remix get up to?
Where to find it: The core rulebook is available from Magpie Games. The Theatre of the Mind Players’ Masks sessions can be found on Youtube.

Super Sons (Comics)
- Jonathan Samuel Kent, Damian Wayne
Super Sons is how I finally came to like and care for Damian Wayne - which, if you know me, is a major achievement! He is still a huge brat, don't get me wrong, but Jon's influence on him and the way he is confronted with certain issues he has... it's magical! It's wholesome! It's healing! They are both so fiercely protective of each other, and they both grow as characters from their experiences with each other.
As for prompts: So, dear Yuletide Santa, give me character growth and banter and friendship galore. I can see slumber parties at Wayne Manor or at the Kent farm. I can see them getting lost in space and time. I can see more adventures once they're at the same school. I can see a canon-divergence AU where Jon is finally admitted into the the Teen Titans at age 13 - how would that go? Or how about an Interrail Buddies AU?
If you want to write slashfic for them, I will not say no but would probably prefer to age them up a bit. I also most definitely don't mind any background appearances of any of their families.

Superman Returns (2006)
- any (Clark Kent, Lois Lane, Jimmy Olsen, Richard White)
I still love this movie a lot - not because it's particularly spectacular, but it treats the characters with love, it treats the legacy of the Reeve movies with love and it leaves SO MANY questions for fanfiction authors to answer. ;) I mean, I've been a Superman fan for a long time and I've discovered that I'm most comfortable with a Clark who wears a mask both as Clark Kent and as Superman, who isn't either of those two (and who is fallible). And whenever someone learns of his secret identity, they will see that he's so much more than either Clark or Superman. I know Lois is a fairly underdeveloped character in this movie, so I would love for her to be treated not just as a prize, especially since there were those years of her having to put her life back together after Supes just up and left.
As for prompts, I've always wondered about the different coping mechanisms (Lois turning bitter, Jimmy starting up daydrinking - WTF?!) and just how their day-to-day business changed without Clark and Supes there. Give me the Planet staff banding together to rescue Lois when she remembers just that second too late that there will be no superhero to save them (I also wouldn't mind any of the Bats helping out secretly, if that's up your alley). Give me Jimmy trying not to think too much and instead getting on Lois' nerves until he's rescued by Richard intervening. I am also an absolute sucker for continuation fics, so how do things settle down after what happens in the movie? I would love for some real Clark and Jimmy bonding moments, maybe even Jimmy finding out or having known all along and covered for Clark. I would love for some truce and real friendship blossoming between Clark and Richard, as they are both intelligent, compassionate, insightful men. If you want to include Jason anywhere, feel free to do that, as he makes for such a wonderful catalyst for disaster. Feel free to write gen or any canon pairings - I'm also okay with non-canon het/slash pairs (or threesomes) as long as they make sense in-universe. ;)
Where to find it: Sadly, the movie doesn’t seem to be streaming anywhere, but since it’s 14 years old now, you can buy it relatively cheap.

Young Justice (Comics)
- Tim Drake (but do feel free to have any of the other characters in the story, too)
No matter if you're into the old 1990s YJ comics, the companion comics to the cartoon show, or the new 2019/20 version of the comics - I love all of them! So much I don't even know where to begin... The snark! The lovable teenage stupidity! The friendship that goes above and beyond! My definite favourite is Tim, because he is such a bright, snarky, secretive, repressed little bird (the moment he takes off his domino mask to reveal a second one underneath? priceless)! I also love his deep friendship with the others because that's his found family. Yes, Batman is his mentor (even though Tim might understand B better than the other way round sometimes) and Dick is his older brother and idol (hero worship, anyone?), but Young Justice is where he wants to be himself and all of it.
As for prompts: Even though I did not put either Cassie or Cissie in my request as I want something Tim-centric, the dynamic with those two strong-willed girls is definitely something I would love to see explored more. Also how the dynamic with the bats is so very different than the Young Just Us dynamic. What's it like being the one without powers in a group of hormonal teenage superheroes? I also just realized that I would love to see more of Mister Sarcastic trolling the rest of the gang. Or how about: What if Tim had powers for one day? If you're into the 2019 comics, how about a 5+1 of Why Drake May Or May Not Be A Good Superhero Alias. If you want to include the rest of the gang, you're definitely more than welcome to. Tim and Kon's bickering and outright arguments in the beginning turning into such a solid friendship (or more) is something I can read about time and time again. Pretty much the same goes for Tim and Bart. Or how about some Wendy the Werewolf Stalker shenanigans? Why is having girls in your group a bad/good idea? How did Cassie's becoming the team's leader affect Tim's sense of self? Heck, if you feel like it, open up the love triangle Tim-Cassie-Kon since there's like a ton of history there. Oh, and anyway, why is Stephanie Brown never part of any of Tim's teams? Dear Yuletide Santa, do also feel free to include any of the other teens (I have a soft spot for Li'l Lobo/Slobo).

Overall, I’m sure I’ll love what you have for me, and I'm looking forward to reading it! <3

AU Questions: If Robin/Dick Grayson, Kid Flash/Wally West, Aqualad/Garth and Miss Martian became the Team (under different circumstances), how would they interact with each other? Who do you think would be in charge of that group of teenage heroes? Robin, KF or 'Lad? And what happens when they clash with the Secret Spies of The Light (which includes Artemis, Kaldur, Superboy and their newest member in Icicle Junior) sometimes?
The real question is what are the new circumstances that form them together? Becuase that would definitely shape the team slightly, like if it was just the boys and Roy storming out with M’gann coming later then it would all be pretty normal, if it was like some invasion or something then that make the team a more hardcore team with more pressure on trust and relationships.
Adding Garth over Kaldur would be more like the Titans comics which means they would all click. Part of the thing about Young superhero teams, even for the characters without powers - they are trained to take down people with powers, and when you’re a teen, having someone like you means you often end up being friends, whether you have anything else in common or not. Part of what I love about the Young Justice comics is how the group kind of bonds together without having much common ground. Cissie and Cassie bond because they have similar names and having that one thing sparks a really strong friendship.
I reckon Robin would be the leader because he is trained to be that way and it’s hard to argue with a Bat. Plus, Dick is so likable that people do tend to gravitate towards him. But then, you do have the issue that Wally would probably want some role or want to prove himself that could create tension. If we’re going off comics, they’re still pretty close friends (I think) so it would probably be an episode thing - they’re battling for control, one goes in alone or does something rash that maybe works out but pisses the team leader off. Dick would also be a very problematic leader in the beginning because of his need for fun and lack of communication, but he’d soon be hit with reality. Like they’d try other leaders for a bit after his lack of communication caused a problem but then it’s proved that his plans are the best and he is a very good people person when he’s allowed to be him and not a miny Bruce. That could then be played into the Nightwing transition and their falling out - He’s his own person and he’s good at what he is. ( I feel like I’m turning this into a Titans/Teen Titans thing now 🤣)
Without Superboy, Miss Martian might fall a bit more into Wally’s flirting which would be interesting to see. The dynamic would change definitely. They’d maybe get together but it would take longer since M’gann didn’t actually like Wally’s flirty - He’d have to realise that he was making her uncomfortable because she snaps and he then starts trying to prove himself till she falls, or it would be one of those suddenly he’s serious moments in the middle of a battle or mission and she’d see him differently. I don’t think it would last though, not at all. Whether my Artemis point in a later paragraph is the reason or just they realise they don’t click perfectly and not all teen romances last forever (which would be a good message tbh)
I’m taking secret spies of the light to mean they aren’t part of the team at all and a team the group clash with, which would be so interesting to see.
Superboy would be a big gun to fight but since Batman has connections to Kryptonite, Robin should have it covered. The debate would then be that Superman would want him brought to the right side and wouldn’t necessarily be okay with Kryptonite just being used out there. He would probably try and talk Conner over to the right side which would plant doubt in Conner’s head but wouldn’t work completely.
If Artemis was fighting for the Light, I imagine her to be similar to the way Cheshire is, the flirting and mind games. I reckon Wally and her would probably have a similar chemistry, where she’s undercover somewhere, he flirts, she’s revealed as evil and he takes it a personal declaration of war - meaning whenever they meet there’s that tension and his game goes off a bit because he doesn’t know what to do. She is his to take down. She still has her show spunk and attitude that would probably get her in trouble with the Light a few times. That added with Icicle Junior would be fun because ice countering speed. Wally realising he needs to let the team help him and stop focusing on just Artemis.
(I’m coming up with like a full story idea now so thank you lol)
Garth and Kaldur would also be a personal fight - whether Tula or just Aqualad chose you and lied to me fight (probs both). I could also see Garth being goodish at leading but I still feel like it would probably fall mainly on Dick
M’gann and Robin would have the least personal conflicts till M’gann tries to go in Conner’s head and see’s the pain he’s in and makes it her mission to help him.
I like to think the teams would end up working together to bring down the Light because I’m all for redemption arcs plus learning to be one team and trust each other would be awesome.
Sorry if this is full of grammar and spelling errors + longer than expected, I’m writing this very late. Interested why you wanted to know though and what your own opinion is 😊

*se frotte les mains* Tim, Cass, Kon, Riddler, Bart :)
About thisask
I'massuming you're talking about Preboot!Tim!Cass!Kon!Bart (also you’ll notice best and worst quality are often the same, that’s because a trait can be both a quality or flaw, it usually mostly depends on your PoV).
Tim generalopinion: fall in a hole and die | don’t like them | eh | they’re fine Iguess | like them! | love them | actuallove of my life
hotnesslevel: get away from me | meh | neutral | theoreticallyhot but not my type | pretty hot | gorgeous! | 10/10 would bang
hogwartshouse: gryffindor | slytherin | ravenclaw | hufflepuff
bestquality: Selfless, Hard Working
worstquality: Selfless, Focused
ship themwith: Kon
brotp themwith: Kon, Bart, Cass Cain and Dick (I used to really like his friendships withHelena and Connor Hawke, too bad DC forgot about them)
needs tostay away from: Steph (the other way around too, I mean I love Steph but untilthey've dealt with their problems they're just gonna end up hurting each otheragain and they don't need the drama ok, they both need happiness, so yeah untilthat happens and they can have a healthy friendship, please keep them away fromeach other), Ra's is an obvious choice too, also Dan Didio and James Tynion IV
misc.thoughts: I think it's pretty obvious he's my favorite DC Character, I misshim. I haven't seen him in 6-7 years now. Also I know that the current plot issupposed to allow DC to bring Preboot!Tim back but they seem to want to goabout it with giving N52!Tim's memories back, which, considering they don'tseem to follow the same thought and emotional patterns I don't see working outin our favor (especially because of the Genius and Nerd trope that seems to befollowing him since N52, I mean they already existed for no valid reason in thefandom but it went from fanon to canon so…).Also I'm pretty sure he has BPD in addition of PTSD, Depression and most of thesymptoms of a victim of a negligent family (like lack of empathy, 0 selfesteem, ect…)...
Cassgeneral opinion: fall in a hole and die | don’t like them | eh | they’re fine Iguess | like them! | love them | actuallove of my life
hotnesslevel: get away from me | meh | neutral | theoreticallyhot but not my type | pretty hot | gorgeous! | 10/10 would bang
hogwartshouse: gryffindor | slytherin | ravenclaw| hufflepuff
bestquality: Kind
worstquality: none she's perfect :p
ship themwith: no one really but I guess Steph would be the closest one I'd ship herwith (he thing for Kon was precious though)
brotp themwith: Steph & Tim ofc, I guess I can add Babs to that though
needs tostay away from: deathstroke and whoever wrote that arc…
misc.thoughts: While I do like the idea of her loving Ballet, I'm gonna go ahead andsay her portrayal's not much better than Tim's…. though I'd love to blame N52,it started before that after her Batgirl series ended and while I love her Blackbatcostume, I think her appearances in Red Robin are almost the only time in thatperiod where she was actually well done. I kinda wished we had seen her minglea little more with other heroes and that she had appeared in Steph's Batgirlseries…I need to re-read her batgirl series….
Kongeneral opinion: fall in a hole and die | don’t like them | eh | they’re fine Iguess | like them! | love them | actuallove of my life
hotnesslevel: get away from me | meh | neutral | theoreticallyhot but not my type | pretty hot | gorgeous! | 10/10 would bang
hogwartshouse: gryffindor | slytherin |ravenclaw | hufflepuff
bestquality: his emotional intelligence
worstquality: arrogance (though technically it's more of a mix between slightshallowness, lack of self esteem/Depression)
ship themwith: Tim ofc
brotp themwith: Bart, Tim, Roxy, Krypto.
needs tostay away from: (Adult) Women, seriously it's creepy. Also the Agenda too, Imean I know they don't exist anymore but still. And ofc Lex Luthor, Joe Kelly and Dan Didio
misc.thoughts: I'd like to add Guardian, Dubbilex, Sam Makoa, Ma Kent and Tana Moonas important relationships of his, because they were extremely important andshould not be forgotten (yes just because I don't like KonxTana as a romanticrelationship doesn't mean she wasn't a very important figure in his early life-actually that's the reason why I can't ship them because it was more like ababy chick imprinting on the first person they meet than anything- she's prettymuch filled a mother like role for him early on), Cassie was obviouslyimportant too (again, don't ship it because it seemed more like settling forsomeone who had feelings for him and was virtually unkillable as opposed toTana rather than him actually loving her romantically, but they were fairlygood friends and did date each other).I think it's really important to remember he's a child, at first he was prettymuch a functioning baby and by the end of the pretty much his emotional andmental age has mostly caught up to his physical age but with the addition ofdepression and ptsd it doesn't help (I mean while I ship him with Tim, there'sa reason why I think the romantic feelings only really started after Kon wasgiven a stable home life with Ma and Pa).Same as for the others, I miss him but at least DC admitted N52!Kon was adifferent character so I'm okay with that as long as they bring him back withhis friendship with Tim and Bart (and if they don't really bring Tim back theybetter show him mourning preboot!Tim dammit)
Riddlergeneral opinion: fall in a hole and die | don’t like them | eh | they’re fine Iguess | like them! | love them |actual love of my life
hotnesslevel: get away from me | meh |neutral | theoretically hot but not my type | pretty hot | gorgeous! | 10/10would bang
hogwartshouse: gryffindor | slytherin | ravenclaw| hufflepuff
bestquality: Curiosity
worstquality: Arrogance
ship themwith: no one (though I read an EddiexBruce fic once that made me interested inthe ship…But only in the context of Eddie being a detective)
brotp themwith: again, no one really, though Scarecrow is probably the one I'd go with
needs tostay away from: everyone, he's a dangerous troll
misc.thoughts: WHY DID THEY RETCON HIS BECOMING A DETECTIVE IT WAS GREAT ! it wasliterally one of the best thing they came up with for him (let's face it rareare the authors who know how to actually use his potential). I like my kinda reformed villaintroll
Bartgeneral opinion: fall in a hole and die | don’t like them | eh | they’re fine Iguess | like them! | love them | actuallove of my life
hotnesslevel: get away from me | meh | neutral | theoreticallyhot but not my type | pretty hot | gorgeous! | 10/10 would bang
hogwartshouse: gryffindor | slytherin | ravenclaw| hufflepuff
bestquality: Curiosity
worstquality: Curiosity :p
ship themwith: no one really, but his thing for Carole was really cute, There'spotential with Rose or Kiran but we never really saw anything so none.
brotp themwith: Tim, Kon, the Ray, Greta, Cissie, MAX MERCURY (okay technically it's hisdad but dammit it's Max okay)
needs tostay away from: Inertia, Deathstroke, pretty much anyone who's mean to him
misc. thoughts: He's my precious child okay, Imiss him, but as for Kon, they actually admitted N52!Bart was a differentcharacter when they revealed his origin story (they did it with Tim too butdecided to retcon that, they're idiots) and I think they do actually intend tobring him back so yay (and as for Kon they better make him miss Tim).his Impulse series is precious, honestly if you haven't read it go for it.While it's for different reasons he's in a way similar to Kon and Tim in thathe didn't not have a childhood that allowed him a 'normal' emotional and mentalgrowth (probably one of the reason why I think of Tim/Kon/Bart more easily thanTim/Kon/Bart/Cassie), though those are actually mostly talked about in hisimpulse series in a fairly direct fashion (especially for the time), wheresuperboy and robin mostly danced around the subjects.
