I've been seeing pennyroyal become ever increasing in popularity recently and this is just a post to ask you to please, please, please reconsider before trying it. It is an herb with a very low therapeutic margin and it can and has caused multiorgan failure before. These cases always reference the oil because that is mainly where the herbs medicinal properties lie. Of course I can't stop you from taking the herb but just know that this is one of the most dangerous herbs to consume, especially if taken in large amounts.
Be safe 💚

Magic can heal just as it can hurt.
There should be a stronger emphasis on this duality in the witchcraft community. Especially with the rise of baneful magic’s popularity.
Your ancestors were healers too, don’t forget it.

Safety in Witchcraft
What’s not talked about enough in the spiritual community is mundane safety along with spiritual. Critical thinking is vital. I wanted to share a lot of my personal rules for myself that I have adapted into my craft.
Fire safety, never leave an open flame unattended. Ever. Always burn in an open enough area with a fire safe dish or on ceramic tile away from animals and children. If you leave the room extinguish the flame. Do not sleep with fire going. I know we want to keep that spell going even during a nap but sometimes we don’t wake up in time for danger. This is absolutely vital to keep you safe. It won’t ruin a spell I promise or anger anything. Please do not add those herbs to that candle. I know it’s nice and pretty but that is a fire hazard. Stay safe.
On that note always have an open window or a well ventilated area when burning items. That goes for herbs, incense, or candle. Smoke inhalation can ruin your lungs.
Rodents, reptiles, birds, any animal is sensitive to scents and have small respiratory systems. Be careful using anything around them. Research what can be used around them. I mean research! Cross reference. Use veterinarian hospital guides, not pro essential oil blogs. Please don’t put any essential oils on your pets. They can be seriously harmed.
Moon water actually molds, very easily. So can herbal blends if not stored correctly. Check frequently and use before end of date. Distilled water is your friend to prolongs shelf-life along is storing in a cold dark place.
Witchcraft and magic is not a replacement for medical treatment and medically prescribed medication. It absolutely can aid your treatment but it is never a replacement.
Do not ingest any herbal remedies without consultation with your doctor and/or Herbalist. Especially if you have pre-existing conditions and need to take medications for it. Things can conflict and are deadly.
Also forage responsibly. Unless you are 100% certain what you have foraged is the correct plant. Don’t even chance it. It’s not worth sickness or in worst cases death.
Do NOT ingest essential oils. I don’t care what you have heard from pro essential oil pages. The distillery methods are not safe for ingestion. It can tear up your stomach lining and throat. Cause extreme nausea and vomiting. Seizures and in worst cases death.
Some covens and practitioners are not your friends. Be cautious and use stranger danger. Be cautious and never give out all of your personal information online. There are predatory people everywhere, including in this community. Please be safe. Always use your gut instinct.
Please feel free in the comments and tags to add important safety pointers you have.

Women of color, witches wise,
With magic in their glowing eyes,
They cast their spells and weave their charms,
And dance beneath the moon's bright arms.
With roots that reach back to ancient lands,
And power that flows from nature's hands,
They channel energy from the earth,
And harness it. It’s been heavy work.
Their ancestors' wisdom fuels their fire,
Their spirits strong, their hearts desire,
To heal, to nurture, to empower,
And fight for justice every hour.
They know the strength that lies within,
And use it for the greater win,
To break the chains of oppression's hold,
And create a world that's fair and bold.
Oh women of color, witches true,
We honor and we lift up you,
For in your magic we see the light,
That guides us through the darkest night.

10 Tips For the Beginner Witch
Tumblr media
1. Don't rush into things:
Take the time to explore and learn about witchcraft, its traditions, and practices. Resist the urge to jump into more advanced practices or take on too much at once. Start small and build your knowledge and skills gradually.
2. Don't believe everything you read online:
Be mindful of where you get your information about witchcraft. Do thorough research and cross-check multiple sources before adopting any beliefs or practices. Remember that not everything online is reliable or accurate.
3. Don't compare yourself to others:
Each person's journey in witchcraft is unique, and it's important to focus on your own growth and path. Don't compare yourself to others or try to measure up to someone else's standards. Embrace your own journey and celebrate your progress.
4. Don't neglect self-care:
Witchcraft can be emotionally and mentally taxing, so prioritize self-care. Take time for yourself to recharge, meditate, and do things that bring you joy. Pay attention to your physical and emotional health and practice self-compassion.
5. Respect nature and the elements:
Witchcraft often involves working with the elements and nature, so treat them with respect. Avoid harming wildlife, littering, or engaging in practices that harm the environment. Build a relationship with nature and the elements based on respect, gratitude, and reciprocity.
6. Don't force your beliefs on others:
Witchcraft is a personal practice, and everyone has their own beliefs and experiences. Respect the beliefs of others, and don't try to force your own beliefs on anyone else. Be open-minded and respectful of different perspectives and approaches to witchcraft.
7. Ask for help:
The witchcraft community is a supportive and knowledgeable community. Don't hesitate to ask for help, guidance, or advice from more experienced practitioners. Join online forums or local groups to connect with others and learn from their experiences.
8. Balance your practice with mundane responsibilities:
Witchcraft can be a fulfilling and meaningful part of your life, but don't neglect your everyday responsibilities. Make sure to balance your practice with your job, family, and other obligations. Remember that taking care of yourself and your responsibilities is an important part of a healthy witchcraft practice.
9. Keep a grimoire or book of shadows:
Keeping a grimoire or book of shadows is a valuable tool for any beginner witch. It allows you to record your experiences, insights, and practices, and serves as a reference for your ongoing learning and development.
10. Embrace experimentation:
Witchcraft is a creative and experimental practice, so embrace your inner curiosity and explore different practices and techniques. Try out different forms of divination, herbalism, meditation, or ritual practices to find what resonates with you. Remember that experimentation and playfulness are key components of a healthy and dynamic witchcraft practice.
As you embark on your enchanting journey as a beginner witch, remember to take your time and savor each magical moment. Witchcraft is a unique and personal practice that is meant to be explored and experienced with joy and curiosity. Remember to approach your craft with wonder and gratitude for the beauty of nature and the elements. May your path be filled with enchantment and wonder as you explore the mystical world of witchcraft.

Green Witch History
Green witchcraft is the sister of folk magic from which it stems from, often overlapping. The green witch originates from village medicine women, healers, midwives, cunning folk, and grandmother's who appeared to have a magic touch with remedies. The green witch stems from common folk, often lower class, and solitary women who understood nature's healing before science caught up. If you go back before modern medicine, every culture has its own version of the green witch. This is why the green witch is not a path for dogma or rigid structure and does not glorify one race or tradition over the other. The green path is the skeletal structure of community healers and caregivers, aided by herbalism and will. Once the "meat" of cultural norms, traditions, and religious ideologies are removed from the bones, you see the foundation on which you can build your own spiritual journey.
Why is Green Witchcraft Becoming more Popular?
The environment for diversity holds many common ideologies, which could be why the newer generations are steering towards a path that explains life in a way that speaks to us all, no matter ancestry. This is similar to the paths of hedge witchery, kitchen witchery, and hearth witchery. These terms are often used interchangeably as some witches, like me, practice these paths cumulatively. According to Arin Murphy -Hiscock in her book The Green Witch, these paths "have three basic things in common: they are based on folk-magic, they do not require a spiritual element, and walkers of the paths tend to be solitary practitioners."
Is Green Witchcraft a Religion?
Many green witches may not associate their practice as religious. This not to say Green Witchcraft can't also be a religion, with dedicated holidays, practices, deities, and prayer. But this not necessary, as green witchcraft is also practiced by secular witches for their own personal magic. One may use the triple goddess to symbolize the cycles of nature or different deities; to me, Maiden, Mother, and Crone are both and all.

My Grimoire Research Library
this is a list of my major resource I've referenced/am currently referencing in my big grimoire project. For books I'll be linking the Goodreads page, for pdfs, websites and videos i'll link them directly.
There are plenty of generalised practitioner resources that can work for everyone but as I have Irish ancestry and worship Hellenic deities quite a few of my resources are centred around Celtic Ireland, ancient Greece and the Olympic mythos. If you follow other sects of paganism you are more than welcome to reblog with your own list of resources.
Parts of my grimoire discuss topics of new age spiritualism, dangerous conspiracy theories, and bigotry in witchcraft so some resources in this list focus on that.

PROTECTION
Tumblr media
protection is an important skill for any practitioner to know because it helps protect you from negative energies, entities, intentions, etc. ill go over some different forms and items for protection in this post
WARDS
wards are energetic fields that prevent unwanted energies, entities, intentions, etc. from coming into your space. they can be cast around yourself or a space. warding can be done in several ways, detailed below
visualization and intent - usually done by visualizing a barrier with the intent of protection
salt - sprinkle salt around your space with the intent of protection, make sure to be safe if you have pets, salt may harm animals if they consume it
crystals - use protective crystals around yourself or your space
herbs - use protective herbs around yourself or your space, you could also make an herbal spray for protection
objects - you can have an object be the "source" of the ward and frequently recharge this object with intent, you could get an object you associate with protection or that has protective properties (such as a plant with protective correspondences) and use this as the source of your ward
ENCHANTED ITEMS
you can enchant an item with intent (in this case, protection) and keep it in your space or wear it
personally, i like to enchant jewelry with intent and wear it with me daily or when i want to utilize its specific abilities!
i will make a more in-depth post on how to enchant things, but you can use intent and visualization, crystals, herbs, or ask for help from a deity or entity you work with
DEITIES AND ENTITIES
you can call upon a deity or entity for protection, such as with a prayer or a direct request
note that if you are doing this they may want an offering in return. relationships in witchcraft are often somewhat transactional (eg. giving energy in exchange for a spell, giving an offering to an entity in exchange for help with your craft, etc.), so i would advise having something to offer them in exchange for their protection
PROTECTION SIGILS
protection sigils are sigils drawn with the intent of protection, there are sigil making charts online or you can simply draw from your intuition, there is no wrong way to make a sigil as long as the intent is there!
i will make a more in-depth post on sigil making and link it here soon
PROTECTION JARS
you can make a protection jar by including items you associate with protection, some ideas for what to include are herbs, small crystals, or sigils
PROTECTION CANDLES
you can make a candle spell and burn it for protection, i would advise choosing a candle in a color you associate with protection and dressing it or surrounding it with herbs you associate with protection. you could also carve a protection sigil into the candle before burning it!
PROTECTION ITEMS
below is a non-exhaustive list of items i associate with protection, your associations may be different and thats completely okay! use whatever association works for you, this is just based off of my personal associations and correspondences with these items
HERBS/SPICES
cloves
garlic
mugwort
bay leaf/bay laurel
cinnamon
salt
black pepper
CRYSTALS
black obsidian
black tourmaline
black kyanite
bloodstone
ruby
tigers eye
hematite
