How tall exactly are Catnap and Dogday? I think Catnap’s either 13 or 14 ft on all fours, and maybe idk. Like 18 or 20 ft on hand legs maybe?
Tumblr media
image id: A comparison height, using human silhouettes to represent the size difference between Angel, CatNap and DogDay. The two critters are around 19 ft. tall, with Angel being 5'7. end image id.
I think that canonically speaking, they would be around this size, yes! For my AU I made them smaller because I think this would make it easier for them to interact with kids. So we have:
Tumblr media
image id: The same comparison from before. CatNap is now 13 feet tall, and DogDay is 11. Angel's size remains the same. end image id.

would love to turn people on to nz on screen, a free archive of new zealand and māori content with over 4500 titles!
the site is accessible in both english and te reo, and it includes over 500 films, 3000 tv series & specials, 2000 documentaries, as well as history series & specials, chat shows, musicals, lgbtq+ content, standup, children's shows, historic news & sports, and more :)
new zealand and māori filmmaking & content, particularly from before the late 2000s, can be exceptionally hard to track down and haven't been given the archival attention they deserve, so this is an amazing resource!

BG3 Spell Voice Lines Cheat Sheet
Tumblr media
Here's a spreadsheet of BG3 spells (levels 1-6) and their vocal components/voice lines.
This is a work in progress, combining info from various sources. Some spells don't have voice lines, some have voice lines but aren't listed in the sources (will have to verify in-game), and some have voice lines but I couldn't understand what was being said, lol.
For any feedback/corrections, feel free to send me a message! I would also appreciate help in figuring out some of the voice lines <3

That ol’ chart of mine makes the rounds online periodically and it drives me crazy because it’s frankly not very good. So, I finally got around to remaking it.
I doubt this will get anywhere near as popular, but I wanted to make it.
Good reference for animation, comics, and for visualizing phonetics!

Do you think the smiling critters designs are good 80s cartoon designs?
The Smiling Critters crew are actually from the 90s, although experimentation began a bit early from what we know (?). I love their designs, however, I think they're more fit for the 2000s or later ages. 80s and 90s cartoons tended to look a bit different, and it's not just a color palette thing!
If the Smiling critters were made for a 90s audience, I think they would have "fluffier" looking bodies, and different, more doll-like eyes. Since they were build with modern audiences in mind as opposed to how things were 30 years ago, they all have more modern looks. We can see this with how their mouths are drawn and how much bigger their heads are compared to their bodies. This is in no way a bad thing! I love how everyone looks, but it's just not something very 90s to me.
... This ask did give me an idea, though.

"Publishers for Palestine is a global collective of publishers, and others who work in publishing around the world, who stand for justice, freedom of expression, and the power of the written word.
Join us for an international #ReadPalestine week, starting Wednesday, November 29, on the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People. During this week, we encourage people around the world to read fiction and poetry by Palestinian and Palestinian diaspora authors, as well as nonfiction about Palestinian history, politics, arts, culture, and life, as well as books about organizing, resistance, and solidarity for a Free Palestine.
To encourage the spread of #ReadPalestine, signatories of the Publishers for Palestine letter of solidarity have organized a Free Palestine Reading List. Participating publishers are offering one of their e-book titles for free download from November 29 to December 5; all titles are available through this website. There are currently more than thirty books on the list in nine languages, including a half-dozen award winners, with more coming in.
We also encourage readers to post on social media about their favorite Palestine books, to quote from their favorite authors, and to make learning more about Palestine an act of solidarity, using the hashtags #ReadPalestine, #LirelaPalestine, #اقرأ_فلسطين, and more. Participating indie bookstores and libraries are invited to join us by creating Read Palestine displays, social media posts, and other forms of creative solidarity."

Searching best practices on JSTOR
Hi Tumblr researchers,
As promised, we're going to dive into some best practices for searching on JSTOR. This'll be a long one!
The first thing to note is that JSTOR is not Google, so searches should not be conducted in the same way.
More on that in this video:
youtube
Basic Search on JSTOR
To search for exact phrases, enclose the words within quotation marks, like "to be or not to be".
To construct a more effective search, utilize Boolean operators, such as "tea trade" AND china.
youtube
Advanced Searching on JSTOR
Utilize the drop-down menus to refine your search parameters, limiting them to the title, author, abstract, or caption text.
Combine search terms using Boolean operators like AND/OR/NOT and NEAR 5/10/25. The NEAR operator finds keyword combinations within 5, 10, or 25 words of each other. It applies only when searching for single keyword combinations, such as "cat NEAR 5 dog," but not for phrases like "domesticated cat" NEAR 5 dog.
Utilize the "Narrow by" options to search for articles exclusively, include/exclude book reviews, narrow your search to a specific time frame or language.
To focus your article search on specific disciplines and titles, select the appropriate checkboxes. Please note that discipline searching is currently limited to journal content, excluding ebooks from the search.
youtube
Finding Content You Have Access To
To discover downloadable articles, chapters, and pamphlets for reading, you have the option to narrow down your search to accessible content. Simply navigate to the Advanced Search page and locate the "Select an access type" feature, which offers the following choices:
Tumblr media
All Content will show you all of the relevant search results on JSTOR, regardless of whether or not you can access it.
Content I can access will show you content you can download or read online. This will include Early Journal Content and journals/books publishers have made freely available.
Once you've refined your search, simply select an option that aligns with your needs and discover the most relevant items. Additionally, you have the option to further narrow down your search results after conducting an initial search. Look for this option located below the "access type" checkbox, situated at the bottom left-hand side of the page.
Additional resources
For more search recommendations, feel free to explore this page on JSTOR searching. There, you will find information on truncation, wildcards, and proximity, using fields, and metadata hyperlinks.

"In search of better profitability, Netflix, Disney, and other providers have been raising prices. The various bundles are now as annoyingly confusing as cable, and they cost basically the same. Somehow, we're also paying to watch ads. Streaming was supposed to be better and cheaper. You can still stream without ads, but the cost of this is getting so high and the bundling is so complex that it's getting as bad as cable — the technology that streaming was supposed to radically improve upon. The Financial Times recently reported that a basket of the top US streaming services would cost $87 this fall, compared with $73 a year ago. The average cable TV package was $83 a month, it reported."
