sleep pile with bruno and his nieces and nephews!
Thank you for the request 🥺 Somehow this turned out to be over 1,000 words! Here’s the AO3 link!
...
Duerme bien
“But we should—“
“Leave him there. Good idea.”
“Not what I was going to say!”
“Whaddya mean? We’re practically twins! We finish each otherrr’s…”
“Like I’d ever fall for that.”
“Hey. What’re you guys just, standing there for?”
Mirabel and Camilo startle at the voice behind them.
“Luisa! Keep your voice down, okay,” Mirabel hisses. “It’s Tío Bruno.”
The tall young woman crosses the courtyard and gazes in the direction her sister has indicated with puckered lips. Her powerful body is immediately tense, ready to spring forward and pluck their tío out of whatever situation he’s landed in. The instant she sees him, though, she gives a low little laugh.
“Oh, he’s sleeping.”
“Yeah. On the floor. Just. Dead to the world, right there.” Camilo, heaping on the obvious statements.
“Which is why we should move him to the couch!”
“He looks… comfortable?” Luisa shifts from one foot to the other. “Haven’t you seen this before?” The younger kids shake their heads. “He used to do it a lot. Before he, uh, left. I remember seeing him asleep on the floor, or like, in a corner somewhere. Mamá said that as long as he wasn’t in danger, wasn’t going to fall or get stepped on or anything, it was okay to let him be. Said he needed the rest.”
She doesn’t mention the part where she’d plunk down in front of Bruno, a doll and stuffed animal in tow, or sometimes blocks. Or that she’d sit with him until he woke up (once or twice prodding him awake herself). Then her tío would blink at her through those ever sleepless eyes, never upset with her, not even if she roused him sooner than he’d wanted. Just a crooked smile and a bleary but tender, “Buenas, Luisita.”
Camilo is gesturing at the man’s form in the center of the living room. “See? I was right. Also, wow, fu—ay! Wh—“
“Shh. I still think we should move him.” Mirabel’s brow is furrowed.
“…What if he wakes up?”
“Yeah. And anyway, he’s probably too heavy for us n–ow! Stop pinching me, Mirabel!”
“He’s not!” Mirabel says, while Luisa crosses her arms, biceps bulging. “And I won’t, because you keep being an—“
“Let him stay there.”
All three of them jump in spite of the sound of a well-practiced whisper beside them. Turning their heads in unison, they see Dolores peeking around the threshold at their passed-out uncle.
“He’s still lighter than you, cabeza gorda.” She adds, humming, lest she squander the opportunity to defend Bruno and jab back at her brother, who simply shrugs, even as he fixes her with a too-wide smirk.
Looking back at Mirabel, he says, “Our majority and our seniority reign!”
Mirabel is familiar enough with their mothers’ and Bruno’s banter as triplets to know it’s hopeless to argue that Camilo being two months and one week older than her totally does not count as seniority. Still, the words chafe.
“Well, unfortunately for you, primo, brains beat age,” she counters. Smiling at her own private triumph. “You guys, come on! Dolores, don’t worry, we won’t wake him.”
“Oh. No, it’s not that–“
“¡Permiso!”
As if on cue, the quiet, piping voice of the youngest Madrigal sends the four bigger bodies shuffling. They watch the boy’s curly head bob toward them—the rest of him is nearly obscured by the thick woolen blanket he’s hugging to his torso—and as he weaves through and on into the room.
Antonio had been the first to stumble upon Bruno like this, after consulting the rats over his whereabouts (“I need to find your mamá,” is how he framed it). It was seeing his tío fast asleep on the floor that made the boy shelve his pursuit of story time in favor of the next most logical thing.
Sure, the kid may have gotten distracted by his toucan friend along the way, but he’s back now! And once he reaches his destination he promptly arranges the blanket in a pile next to Bruno, plopping down on his side and snuggling his cheek against the man’s pudgy belly.
The sight makes Dolores and Mirabel grin and Luisa’s lower lip quiver.
“Looks like Toñito’s found a middle way.” Camilo arches an eyebrow.
No one is at all fazed when Mirabel darts away, skirt fluttering. Nor when they hear a few muffled thumps somewhere above them, followed by the sound of her shushing herself. Within moments she’s at the living room entrance again, heaving blankets and pillows at the others (Casita had to have helped with the load), and bounding ahead, lightly, with hers. She motions c’mon just as she’s starting to lay out her blanket in order to curl around her little primo, who wiggles his fingers at her.
“His tummy keeps making noises,” Antonio whispers, stifling a sleepy giggle.
Mirabel’s mouth forms into an o-shape. To her right, she catches a glimpse of Luisa settling on her quilt above Bruno’s head. “Maybe it’s better not to lie on it, hombrecito…”
“It’s okay,” Dolores says with an unconscious tilt of her head, from where she’s making a spot for herself. “Tío ate a little over an hour ago. He’s just slow to digest.” A satisfied Antonio mushes his whole face into Bruno’s soft stomach.
“Hey, save some room for your big brother.”
The teenager has shape-shifted into a… smaller version of himself—a bit smaller than Antonio, even. Nudging in between Dolores and their tío, he steals the former’s pillow so he can roll onto it, and rests his head opposite his brother’s. After a second or two of mild contemplation, he pulls an expression that reads not bad and gives an exaggerated yawn.
Pepa and Félix’s eldest shakes her head. Then her eyes flick off to the left… barely catching the shadow moving past the room.
The last things Dolores sees before she lies down beside Bruno are Luisa curved in an arc over him, body completely slumped and a gentle smile playing on her lips; and Mirabel rubbing circles into Antonio’s back as he drifts off, trying to fight the same fate…
In due time, the air turns fragrant with the scent of various wildflowers. Isabela slips into the room, a rolled blanket in the crook of her elbow, and conjures crowns for each of her family members. (No outrageous blooms, though she considers making an exception for Camilo.) When she’s finished putting the final touches on Bruno’s clovers, she claims the space by her youngest sister.
“Duerme bien,” she murmurs, letting her forehead rest against the already slumbering girl’s shoulder.
Everything falls silent.
Maybe he would have moved earlier. Coughed, or something. But, oh, these kids…
Bruno allows one eye to open a crack, then the other. Gingerly, he extracts his rather stiff arm out from under Mirabel, giving it the tiniest stretch and twist before placing his hand on Antonio’s head.
He smiles, and closes his eyes once more.
. . .
@junosaccount drew art of the sleep pile!!!!!!!! Thank you, thank you!!!!!

👑⚔️💙Warrior Princess Luisa💙⚔️👑
Tumblr media Tumblr media
🐦Giving her a full body armour is tempting but I opt to give her only a few armour pieces since she's already super strong. I made sure that her design really fits her title as the warrior Princess.

The Vision
(I want to get better at posting smaller bits of writing on a more consistent basis. I'm not sure if I'll continue this, but I had a lot of fun brainstorming a new chapter in our Mirabel's life. 🦋✨)
The Vision 🟩🌎
Prompt: A year following Casita’s reconstruction, Mirabel is given a vision plate foretelling the arrival of a young (and handsome) outsider.
“Tió…what is this…?” Mirabel trailed off, averting her stare at the emerald plate up to Bruno’s unreadable expression. “Who are they?”
Bruno shuffled, his hands wrung in front of him. “Your guess is as good as mine, kid. All I can say is that person,” he tapped the human figure’s image, “isn't someone I recognize from around here.”
Mirabel gently took the vision in her hands, staring intently at the slate. The… boy, maybe, by the looks of it, seemed to be around her age. He (granted he was a he) was perched atop a small donkey. Two large cargo pouches - with elegantly sewn details - were latched along his companion's saddle. Tassels - similar to the ones from her own skirt - looked to have bobbed from the side of each pouch.
The Vision could only accentuate so much detail on the traveler themselves, but they appeared to have short, dark, scruffy hair and the green flecks along his chin gave Mirabel the impression of facial hair. Handsome, too, by the looks of it.
He appeared to be wearing a pair of loosely-arranged pants and a light button-up shirt with his sleeves rolled up. The top couple of buttons were undone, just barely hinting his collarbone. But Mirabel quickly caught sight of his expression.
Unlike what she was half-expecting to see from the outside world, the boy-figure's expression didn't contain any malice or bloodlust whatsoever.
Instead, his head was turned towards what Mirabel would guess to be the great split in the mountain range, with his animal companion mirroring a similar look. There was a look of undying awe in his features, evident in his smile and the barely noticeable twinkle in his eye had Mirabel not tilted the slate to the side.
Mirabel handed the slate back to Bruno, wiping her hands along her blouse. He slid the vision back into his ruana, looking at her with a mixed look of uncertainty and hopeful anticipation.
“I’ve already shown this to your Abuela, and your parents and Tió and Tiá. No matter what the decision will be, there will still be many more, uh, grown-up steps to take - which would likely involve input from you and your sisters and your cousins.”
Bruno closed his eyes and quickly shook his head. “But what I want to know now is - what do you think we should do?”
“Well…” Mirabel began slowly - cautiously, eyes darting back to the luminescent green corner of the vision plate. The mental image of the boy's expressive clothing and  joyful expression slightly eased her nerves.
“If this traveler is going to pass through the mountains any day now... I think we should welcome him to our Encanto."

I was thinking about how after Casita fell, we got to see Julieta's fear when Mirabel disappeared, and her relief when she comes back, including their sweet hug... That being said, she's Agustín's kid too, and I wanted to see his reaction to his baby's reappearance. This is that scene.
Dedicated to @magicalmadrigals who keeps us so well fed with fluff, and I thought deserved some in return.
Word Count: 1400 and some change.
*****
Agustín couldn't remember the last time he had one of his daughters in his bed.  The older they became, the less they sought the comfort of their parents' room.
Isabela was always too fussy about her pillows, and Luisa needed her special double-length bed to even begin to be comfortable, so he supposed it was just a matter of growing up.
But now that the family was crammed into his small family home, Mirabel being in bed beside him was less about a little kid wanting their parents, and more out of necessity, since there wasn't another room.
Still… after the day they'd had, Agustín was more than thrilled to have her close by and in sight.
He glanced to his right, peering over the rims of his glasses to see Mirabel snuggled into the pillows, nose buried deeply in a book she'd found on his old shelf.
It was surreal, being in his childhood bedroom again.  It had been nearly twenty five years since he'd left it, and he never thought he'd return - much less with his entire family in tow.
Unfortunately, now that Casita was more a pile of rubble, rather than a house, they would have to make do.  For awhile, at least.
"I read that book a lot when I was your age,"  Agustín said offhandedly, picking at a small hole in the quilt.
"Yeah?"  Mirabel licked her finger and turned the page, clearly more interested in the words in front of her than holding a conversation.
Still, Agustín wanted to hear her voice.
"Mhm.  I'm almost surprised it's still in one piece, I read it so many times."
Mirabel didn't respond, her eyes flitting across the page in rapid fashion, she was devouring the novel in record time.
Agustín stared ahead, looking around the room.  Not much had changed since he was her age… the same books on the shelves, the same drawings tacked to the walls.  Had the wallpaper always been that ugly?
He didn't know where Julieta had wandered off to, but he was getting tired and hoped she'd be back soon so they could blow the candles out and go to sleep.
The day had been unbelievably long, spending every waking moment (and there were many of them - they'd barely slept a wink the night before) hunting high and low for Mirabel.
Now that she was found, safe and sound beside him, he knew he'd sleep like the dead and wouldn't wake even if a train crashed through the window.
He twiddled his thumbs, trying to find something to keep his mind occupied until his wife returned, and Mirabel finally tore her eyes away from the novel, lowering it into her lap.
"Are you alright, Papi?"
"Wonderful,"  he said.  "Why do you ask?"
"You're acting funny,"  Mirabel said.  "Very… fidgety."
"I'm always acting funny,"  he said, with a wink.  "Just ask your mother."
Mirabel chewed on the inside of her cheek, a horrible habit she'd had since she was a toddler.  She didn't look convinced.
"Why, are you okay?"
Mirabel closed the book and laid it on the nightstand opposite of where he sat.  "I'm sorry, Pa."
Well that wasn't what he'd expected to hear.
"Sorry?"
Before he knew what was happening, Mirabel threw herself into his arms, wrapping her own tightly around his neck.  "I'm so, so sorry."
"Mirabel, you didn't do anything wrong.  Nothing that happened was your fau-"
"I'm sorry for scaring you."
Agustín let out a breathy laugh. "Well, that you did do."  He squeezed her, while she clamored into his lap.  "Scared me a lot, actually."
"I know,"  Mirabel nuzzled her face further into his shoulder.  "I didn't mean to, I promise… I was just so upset."
"Shh, I know,"  Agustín ran a gentle hand up and down her back.  He could hear a tightness in her voice, and he hated when his children cried.  There had been far too many tears shed in the last few days.
The last few weeks, really.  Even before Antonio's birthday, tensions had been high.
"It's alright, amor.  Everything is okay now."
Mirabel moved her head, although he wasn't sure if she was nodding, or using his shirt as a tissue.  He supposed it didn't matter.
They sat there for awhile, just clinging to each other, processing the emotions the last couple of days had brought forward.
He hadn't mentioned it to anyone - not even Julieta - but for a brief time, when they couldn't find Mirabel, he wondered if he'd ever get to hug her like this again.
It was a horrible thought, but one that made him press a hand to the back of her head as he snuggled her closer against his chest.
"You know,"  Agustín began slowly, continuing to rub her back as he spoke.  "Even though you scared the absolute hell out of me-"
He smiled when he heard Mirabel giggle at that.  He didn't curse often in front of the kids, but he knew it always amused them when he did.  "Even though you scared me, I'm still very, very proud of you."
Mirabel pulled back and looked at him through watery eyes, her glasses slightly foggy.  "Really?"
"Extremely."  He removed the glasses from her face and wiped them with his shirt, before placing them gently back on her nose.  "You stood up for yourself.  It was overdue, honestly."
Mirabel wiped her eye with a knuckle, leaning back on her knees.  "I don't like fighting with Abuela but…"
Agustín sighed.  "It was a long time coming.  I lost my temper with her too."
Mirabel stared at him.  "You're the most patient person I know!"
"Even the most patient people have their limits,"  Agustín pressed a kiss to her forehead, a sad smile on his face.  "I think we've all reached our limits this week."
Mirabel nodded.
"That being said, while I am extremely, extremely proud of you,"  Agustín leaned back against the pillows, Mirabel curling into his side like she had when she was much smaller.  "Please never scare me like that again.  My hair is gray enough, thank you very much."  He accentuated his point by running a hand through it, making it stick out on one side.
Mirabel snorted.  "Got it."
They quieted again, and for a time all that was heard was the sound of Mirabel's sisters snoring through the wall.
"It will all work out, I promise,"  Agustín said, a firm hand on her shoulder.  "It'll take time, but everything will settle down eventually.  We'll rebuild the house, finally get you your own room-"
"Ooh, can I pick the color?"  Mirabel perked up at the thought, a brightness to her eyes that had been lacking lately.
Agustín chuckled.  "Any color of the rainbow, amor."  He placed a kiss on the top of her head.  "But I'm serious.  Soon enough, no one will even remember any of this."
Mirabel laughed.  "I have a hard time believing that… but I will say, it'll be nice not to have to listen to Isa and Lu snore all night."
"I'll have you know, you snore too."  Agustín brushed his nose against his daughter's, eliciting a small giggle.
Just then, the door pushed open to reveal Julieta, with a tray and three steaming mugs on it.
"What's so funny?"  She asked, sidling up to the bed and sitting on the edge.
"Papi says I snore,"  Mirabel said.
"He's right,"  Julieta agreed.  "But you get it from him."
Agustín threw his hand over his heart, aghast.  "I would never."
"Why do you think I drink so much coffee in the morning?"  Julieta teased, handing each of them a mug of warm tea.  "It's impossible to sleep with you in the room.  Now with both of you in my bed, it's going to be doubly impossible."
Mirabel laughed again, blowing on the cup.  She settled comfortably between them, nestled deeply in the pillows against the headboard.
They stayed up just long enough to finish their tea, chatting about what color Mirabel was going to paint her new bedroom.
(It seemed she was taking up his offer to paint it any color of the rainbow… and was choosing all of them.)
But it wasn't long before Agustín was blowing out the candle on his nightstand, looking over at his wife and daughter, both sound asleep beside him.
Yes, he thought as he pulled the blankets higher over their shoulders.  He might not have remembered the last time one of his children shared his bed, but he certainly wouldn't forget this one any time soon.

So in a few short chapters, none of which will take almost a month to update, WTGROAM will be at its end 😔
!BUT! I have several other multi-chap Encanto fic ideas. Instead of just posting them both and eventually abandoning them, I’m going to post one at a time. So tell me out of these two which one interests you most
1) Camilo is stalked, and then kidnapped by a woman who believes she is ‘saving him’ from his cruel abusive parents. She is also convinced Bruno is his real father and wants the three of them to be a family. May or may not be a comment on all the Pepa/Félix hate and anti black racism that I’ve noticed a trend in the fandom
2) Bruno is Camilo’s father. After his fiancée dies in childbirth, he gets depressed and wants fuckall to do with his son. Pepa and Félix (it was his cousin who was Camilo’s mother) just sort of naturally adopted them. Bruno comes back after fifteen years wanting to be his father. May or may not be a sort of counter-fic to all the Papa Bruno fics out there

I've got a very mixed relationship with TV Tropes. They banned me twice for no real reason, but I can't stop admiring their archive of tropes. This is what a work page for my "Encanto" fanfic, "Cracks in the future", would look like. (Some of these tropes also fit the canon characters in the movie.) This fanfic is set in an alternate universe, where Bruno has a wife (Míriam) and two kids (Teresa and Víctor).
A - L
Adaption Personality Change: Downplayed. There's a bit less emphasis in this fic on the weirder things, that Bruno will do in the movie. This is partly because most of it is told from Teresa's point of view, and she's a Daddy's Girl who won't find him strange. But it helps as well that he's happier in this fic than in most of the movie, and it makes his anxieties less pronounced and easier to control. That said, it is made clear that Bruno still manages to weird other people out. Abuelo Gonzalez (his father-in-law) actually wonders if he's "right in the head", and Pablo is forced to admit that he can see why people would find him "odd". But still, while Bruno is likely to cover his face with a hood if he's out in public, except if Míriam is there to pull it down, he will never wear a bucket over his head here. And he still has rats as pets long before it would be seen as normal, but his two alter egos Hernando and Jorge are never mentioned at all in this fic. And even him being superstitious is only mentioned exactly once.
Adaptional Angst Downgrade: Bruno is generally much happier in this fic than in most of the movie. It is true that he still deals with the pressure from his mother, and with a bunch of judgemental villagers. But it's noted that him meeting Míriam has improved his life a great deal. He never hid from his family for years either in this fic, since he could talk to his wife about his visions and had two kids to raise. Bruno and Míriam decided to simply not reveal what he saw in Mirabel's future. That made his mother furious with him, but he didn't have to become a hermit…
The Alcoholic: Tía Malena's husband Enrique is described as a violent drunk, and nobody in Malena's family likes him.
All Work vs All Play: This is what Míriam and Malena were in their younger days. Míriam preferred to stay at home and help their parents in their shop, but Malena would be out dating different guys instead.
Almighty Mum: When a bully's father is about to start attacking Bruno's door, Bruno can't do much except take his crying wife into his tower, and tell his kids to go to their rooms and hide there. And as soon as the man attacks the door, what saves the situation is that the door gives the attacker an electric shock, and that Abuela Madrigal arrives and tells him and his wife off. They try to make it look as if everything is Bruno's and Teresa's fault, but that doesn’t work at all. Abuela Madrigal only tells them to leave. And naturally, they must obey her.  * As a matter of fact, people respect Abuela Madrigal so much that Teresa can use it. She learns that if Pablo's father keeps on slandering her and her father, her bringing up her abuela is the only way to make him stop.
Ascended Extra: Bruno has never hidden from his family for a decade in this fic, where he becomes the beloved father of protagonist Teresa. So he naturally has lots of screen time here, that he didn't have in the movie.
Awful Wedded Life: Tía Malena is clearly unhappy with her marriage to Enrique, who's described as a violent drunk who nobody in Malena's family likes. Also, Pablo reveals to Teresa that he wonders if his parents even still like each other. Both of these cases are in contrast to the three happy Madrigal marriages.
Bespectacled Cutie: Mirabel happens to be the only family member except for her father, who needs to wear glasses. She's also the only Madrigal kid to have no gift and struggles with that.
Beta Couple: Julieta and Pepa are already dating Agustín and Félix respectively, when Bruno and Míriam get together in the first chapter. It is later revealed in the second chapter, that Julieta and Pepa are planning triple dates. And later on in the story, the three couples have been married for 22 years and are still friends. * Dolores and Mariano become this to Teresa and Pablo by the end of the story. It is a case though, where the Betas get together later than the Official Couple, since everyone had just expected Mariano to propose to Isabela, while Dolores had hidden her feelings for him.
Big Sister Instinct: Teresa manages to save Víctor from a group of mean bullies, and it's revealed that Pepa used to do the same thing for Bruno.
Birth-Death Juxtaposition: Abuelo Pedro was killed during an attack right after his kids were born.
Bookworm: Bruno is hardly fond of being out among people in public, but he will still take his family on regular visits to the local library. It is noted that he was an avid reader as a young man. So now, it is important to him to encourage his kids to read. And it worked especially well with Víctor, who loves to go to the library. However, Teresa will borrow a book or two as well.
A Boy, A Girl, And A Baby Family: Dolores is 21 years old, Camilo is 15 years old and Antonio is the baby of the family at five years old.
Boyfriend-Blocking Dad: Bruno becomes a downplayed example when Teresa meets Pablo. Bruno is clearly uncomfortable with it, but he still is more nervous than aggressive. And he doesn’t have anything bad to say about Pablo, he is even able to apologize for acting weird, and acknowledge that Pablo is the first person who isn't a family member, who will respect him. As soon as Teresa asks her parents if she can bring Pablo to her room though (she promises that they'll only talk, but they would be alone together in her bedroom), Bruno has to warn him that he can't do anything "improper" to her.
Brooding Boy, Gentle Girl: Downplayed with Bruno and Míriam as he is as gentle to her as she is to him. They were also both lonely before they met each other. However, Bruno was extremely unhappy until then. And he still has his anxieties and a bad reputation. Míriam managed to see that he wasn't dangerous though, even if she was the only girl in the Encanto to be willing to date him. Nowadays, it is her job to help him deal with whatever his problems are… * Pepa and Félix are a gender-inverted example. She is very hot-tempered and overly emotional, and it became his job to calm her down (and it's a very important job, since Pepa's mood controls the weather in the Encanto).
The Bully: A gang of them attack Víctor in an alley before Teresa can stop them. One of the bullies who insults their father gets what he deserves though…  * It is revealed that Bruno also was attacked by bullies when he was younger, and that Pepa had to strike them in their heads with lightning.
Bumbling Dad: Mirabel's father, Agustín, is clumsy and always attracts bees, but he does love his wife and his daughters dearly and will do anything for them.
Canon Foreigner: Míriam, Malena, their parents, Teresa, Víctor, Leonor, Pablo, Pablo's family and Enrique are all characters, who don't appear in the movie.
Clashing Cousins: Teresa and Isabela are never able to get along. But then, Teresa suddenly has an epiphany that Isa almost accepted a loveless marriage. And it makes her feel sympathy for her at last…
Daddy's Girl: Teresa is very devoted to Bruno and won't let anybody insult him (and that is what most of the villagers do). She is very adamant about assuring that he's right about all of his visions. Her theory is that she got the same gift as him for this reason: Since she loves her father so much, she can't imagine having a different gift…
Demoted To Extra: This happened to several of the characters from the movie. Mirabel is Teresa's best friend and still an important character, but she's not the protagonist and will not appear in every chapter. And as much as Julieta, Pepa, Agustín, Félix, Camilo and Antonio are still there, they only get a few lines each. When it comes to more minor characters from the movie, like the kids who pestered Mirabel, Señora Pezmuerto and Señor Flores, they are still around as well, but they're not named and don't get any lines. Osvaldo Orozco Ortiz is an aversion though, as he is in the spotlight in one scene.
Disappeared Dad: Abuelo Pedro was forced to sacrifice his life to save all the other villagers, when they were attacked when his three kids had just been born. Not only did this traumatize his wife Alma (a k a Abuela Madrigal), but it's clear that Bruno (who was the only boy) also struggled a lot as he didn’t have a father.  * Nobody has ever found out what happened to Teresa's cousin Leonor's father. He seems to have just disappeared one day. So he must have either been killed, or he found some way to leave the Encanto and abandon his pregnant fiancée.
Energetic and Soft-Spoken Duo: Mirabel and Dolores end up with this dynamic, when they're in the same scene together. Mirabel is very bubbly and talkative, Dolores is calmer and much quieter.
Fiery Redhead: Tía Pepa is red-headed and really hot-tempered. Her mood is what controls the weather in the Encanto.
Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: Míriam had become the responsible sister, who preferred to stay at home and help her parents in their shop. Malena would be out dating different guys instead. Even as they've reached their middle age, Míriam is Happily Married and described by Teresa as a perfect wife and mother, while Malena is stuck with a violent drunk and is very jealous of her sister.
Freudian Trio: The three middle-aged women in the Casita form a trio like this. Pepa is really hot-tempered (the Id), Julieta is the calm and responsible sister (the Superego), while Míriam does her best to be the perfect wife and mother, but she can still start crying and lose her temper (the Ego).  * This is true for their husbands as well. Félix is jolly and extroverted (the Id), Agustín is calm and more composed (the Superego), while Bruno is introverted, but will often show emotions like sadness and anxiety and shame (the Ego).  * And naturally, this is true with the triplets too, with Pepa as a hot-tempered Id, Julieta as the calm Superego and Bruno as the introverted but nervous Ego.
Generation Xerox: Míriam got really scared the first time she saw Bruno's eyes glow green, and it made him plead with her to not leave him. Years later, this is repeated but gender-inverted with Teresa and Pablo. He is very startled when he sees her eyes glow green, and it makes her plead with him to not leave her. * Pablo's mother says that Teresa reminds her of her mother though. But later, Pablo reveals to Teresa that her eyes will look sad even when she's smiling. And that's a trait, that she's apparently inherited from her father.  * Víctor is very much like Bruno, which has become notable to lots of people. Both of them are described as having a melancholy and nervous personality. Their pictures that hang next to Abuela Madrigal's door are nearly identical. Both of them are also into writing stories and theater and have rats as pets. * But a lot of this might go back one more generation. As soon as Pablo sees a painting of Abuelo Pedro, he says he thinks that Bruno looks a lot like him. Bruno and Víctor are also implied to have inherited their writing skills from him.
Generational Trauma: Abuela Madrigal watched her husband get killed during an attack. And it made her think that her kids and grandkids have to work hard, and produce new generations of Madrigals, so the magic and their protection from new attacks will stay strong. But it makes her do things like allowing the villagers to slander Bruno, pushing Mirabel to the side until she feels unloved, pressuring Isabela to think that she must enter a marriage that she doesn’t want, and Luisa to think that she has to work hard until she almost burns herself out. Teresa is mostly left alone until she meets Pablo. But then, Abuela Madrigal makes it clear that she wants great-grandkids. It is only after the Casita crumbles and the magic is lost, that a healing process can begin…
The Glorious War of Sisterly Rivalry: Míriam and Malena have a responsible vs irresponsible divide, and not a smart vs pretty divide (even if Míriam is the wiser out of the two, and Malena is described as having been the more popular sister). But still, Malena seems to see her whole life as just a competition with Míriam. Malena is very bitter and jealous since Míriam has a better life than her.  * Mirabel and Isabela are unable to get along, and Mirabel and Teresa love to mock Isabela for being so haughty. But they can reconcile after Isabela reveals her secret: she was only going to marry Mariano to please Abuela Madrigal.
Glowing Eyes: This is what happens when Bruno or Teresa looks into the future. Their eyes will glow green.
Good Parents: Teresa and Víctor feel that Bruno and Míriam definitely are this. Teresa adores her father and admires her mother, just as much as Víctor adores his mother and admires his father.
Green Thumb: Isabela's power is that she can grow plants out of nowhere.
Happily Married: Teresa is glad that she grew up around three happy marriages (Bruno/Míriam, Pepa/Félix and Julieta/Agustín), but she can also describe her abuelos as being devoted to each other…
Hidden Depth: Even if Teresa didn't quite agree with Mirabel that Mariano was a "dumb hunk", she is very surprised when she learns that he's a poet.
Honorary Uncle: This story has an inversion. Normally, Teresa and Víctor would have called Tía Malena's husband "Tío Enrique". But nobody in Malena's family likes him because he's a violent drunk, so nobody has taught Teresa or Víctor to think of him as their tío. He is therefore referred to as just "Enrique".
Housewife: Zig-zagged with Míriam. She devotes a big chunk of her life to just taking care of her husband and her kids, and that is clearly what she wanted. However, she likes to run her family's shop too after she gets a chance to do so. Still, she is ready to cut down on her hours in the shop after the magic returns.
I Am Not Pretty: Teresa is very surprised when Pablo actually calls her pretty. What she thought was that Isabela was the pretty one.
I See Dead People: Víctor's power is that he can both see and hear the spirits of the dead.
I Want Grandkids: Actually, Abuela Madrigal is pushing for great-grandkids now. This is very justified though since she believes that if the Encanto will survive, there must be new generations of Madrigals to keep the magic strong.
In-Series Nickname: "Mira" for Mirabel, "Isa" for Isabela and "Juli" for Julieta. Antonio and Pablo are called "Toñito" and "Pablito" by their respective mothers. * As a way more negative example, Bruno is known as "Bad Luck Bruno" among the villagers. It is even used by his brother-in-law Enrique, but he's not portrayed in a positive light anyway.
Jacob and Esau: Pablo is clearly his mother's favorite, and Pablo is convinced that his brother Manuel is their father's favorite.
The Jinx: Most of the villagers consider Bruno as one of these. They think that not only can he see the future, but he will make all kinds of bad things that he sees happen. Teresa is later accused of causing an old woman's death as well…
Like Mother, Unlike Daughter: Mirabel and Dolores swapped their mother's roles. Mirabel is bubblier than Julieta, while Dolores is quieter than Pepa.
The Lost Lenore: Abuelo Pedro was forced to sacrifice his life during a war. That is when the miracle was born, but it has truly traumatized his wife, Alma, who saw it happen in front of her eyes. As the years went by and she became best known as "Abuela Madrigal", she started to put a lot of pressure on her kids and grandkids. She thought that this was the only way to keep the magic strong, and it would give them protection from new attacks…

Twins? You're lying, where has he been all my life then?
Summary: For ten entire years Camilo Madrigal was virtually the only guy in the family, he just simply doesn't know it could've been someone else in his shoes until Casita falls; enter Carlos Madrigal, the forgotten, giftless heir to Pepas side of the family.
Warnings: Minute gore, check tags for further warnings.
Authors Note: I figured out what the absolute mad lads of the Encanto fandom did with the concept arts for characters and decided to write a fic about it, and @sobredunia you're being subjected to Camilo propoganda, reblogs are appreciated.
Carlos Madrigal has been living in Casitas walls since before he could walk, Bruno popping in when he turned five was a neat surprise for him. He has his half of the Casitas walls, Bruno has his portion, at least, that was the idea until the both of them realized it'd be wiser to share the kitchen place. He's sure his simple personality makes Bruno want to strangle him, but at the same time, it brings him a little bit of joy to watch his face light up in agitation as he teases relentlessly.
It was a quaint ten years, passed by faster than he could keep track of, but eventually, Bruno refused to let Carlos enter his parts of Casitas walls; he agreed to bring him food after he had moved to a different spot. And he did move, completely out of spite though, taking his worn and restitched red ruana with him, he never talked to Bruno much after that, he was nine when that happened. So, doing a brief count, he's spent most of his life alone, afraid and stuck in the darkness of Casitas walls without knowing anyway out.
He doesn't even know if he really is a Madrigal, or if he's just some eldritch spawn living in the walls birthed of dust and magic residue alike, he just knows that he is Carlos, and he lives 'with' Bruno. He knows he has no gift and that all Madrigals do, but Bruno refuses to tell him much more about the rest of his family in general, nothing that goes much further into detail. And it's driving Carlos up the walls because he's trapped between the outside world and the family Madrigal and he doesn't know where he belongs.
That all changed when Casitas walls came crumbling down around him and he was caught in the blast, the families discord finally taking its toll. He was distantly awake for most of that, distantly aware no one heard him scream for help, nor the sickening crunch of bones, vaguely knowing no one would hear him whine in agony with the magic gone. That didn't stop him from sobbing as he tried to stay awake, as he tried to call out for anybody in hopes that he could garner attention before the blood oozing from his shoulder caused him to faint.
Carlos didn't seen manage though, with one final plead of 'help,' he passed out, slumped between chunks of Casitas walls. He didn't know that Camilo was the first to start traversing the further edges of the damage, the first to find Carlos and be smothered in shock. The freeze response was short lived when he saw the blood, rushing over to start heaving up slabs of his home to try and unearth the unrecognizable boy. Although, Camilo wasn't sure that he liked what he saw when he picked up the boy who grimaced in his sleep, it was like looking in a mirror.
Camilo simply cradled the boy in his arms as he walked back through the rummage, finding everyone mourning in their own way, some falling for Mirabel. He tried to stay out of view, he really did, placing down the still breathing and oozing body against a chunk of land before calling for Pepa and Julieta; they both came running. He simply stood and stared when they arrived, Pepa gasping in shock and Julieta in horror at the injury, she was quick to pull out a vial, Pepa held out a hand to stop her which confused Camilo deeply.
"Pepa, let me help him," Julieta said sternly, Pepa begrudgingly lowered her hand to let Julieta through.
"Mamà, do you know that guy?" Camilo asked, gesturing vaguely to a still passed out Carlos who was being force-fed a vial of juice in his sleep, no response as his wound mended itself.
"I'll explain when he wakes up," Pepa said quietly, stroking her braid out of reflex even though her powers had been disabled with the fall of Casita.
Soon enough Julieta was standing with a hand on her sisters shoulder, watching and hoping that Carlos would come through, Camilo stuck in shock. Who was this guy? A replacement? Shared hallucination? Culmination of the families turmoil? He didn't know and it was driving him mad, this kid could hold all the secrets even Dolores is unaware and he's laying limp on the ground in a pool of his own blood. He starts to come too soon enough and Camilo practically bounds over to help him up, only to get shrugged off with a sharp 'Get off!' he reluctantly pilled away afterwards.
"Carlos…" Pepa murmured softly, Camilo almost didn't catch it, but perked up before throwing an accusation.
"You do know him! Explain!" Camilo practically demanded of his mother, now with nothing to immediately fear.
"Easy now, don't blow a gasket faker," Carlos said, tone only semi-sarcastic, he got a glare from Camilo, he smirked in response.
"Carlos, this is Camilo, Camilo, this is Carlos," Pepa said, getting introductions done with swiftly, she took a shaming breath, "he is your twin brother."
"Twin? You're lying, if he's my twin then wheres he been all my life?" Camilo demanded, his confusion inly rising and it showed very clearly, Carlos experiencing something familiar but doing a much better job of hiding it.
"Living in the walls," Carlos said matter-of-factly, Pepa nodded when her first son turned with a questioning glance.
"How could you do that?! I went alone for ten whole years as the only guy in family Madrigal because you put Carlos in the walls?" Camilo asked, his rage only simmering after the initial spill over, Pepa struggled for words.
"In the last fifteen years a lot has changed, when you were born this village had a superstitious belief that if you had twins the second one was an unholy spirit, not wanting to truly get rid of Carlos, Pepa simply trusted that he would last, she spent her time in the walls with him until he was four, always sliding food through the cracks for him but never mentioning him," Julieta explained, Pepa nodded along confirming every word said, "it was pure chance that Camilo was born mere minutes sooner than Carlos."
"What you're saying is that I could've been in the walls, that I got lucky and Carlos took the hit for me without even knowing he had a brother?" Camilo asked, two nods from his mamà and his tìa, before he could continue Carlos spoke up.
"So, does this mean I'm not some eldritch horror terror spawned in from all the families residual magic and arguments alike?" Carlos asked, he got a no from Pepa.
"More importantly, is he going to get to live with us now that the superstitions are gone? Now that I know he exists?" Camilo asked as Carlos got up too his feet, a mere inch taller than Camilo.
"We'll have to talk it over with the rest of the adults, Camilo," Julieta said before leading Pepa away, leaving just Camilo and Carlos to their own devices.
They simply stood and stared at each for a few solid minutes of silence, unable to speak, both admittedly uncomfortable being alone, knowing the roles could've been swapped. Camilo was visibly uncomfortable, fidgeting a little bit and the such while Carlos held it purely inside, refusing to give any show of emotional existence. But that didn't stop Camilo from speaking up first despite how tense it was the rubble of Casitas once stable walls.
"So, did you ever get your gift?" Camilo asked, Carlos raised a brow.
"No, I couldn't've, I was living in the walls, everyone knows you only get a gift with a door, idiot," Carlos said, dropping back down on the ground, gripping the hem of his ruana, Camilo sat opposite to him, orange and red parallels.
"Right, what did you even eat in there, Carlos?" Camilo asked, giving a crooked smile, trying so desperately to keep a loose string of conversation in the air so it wouldn't fall back into that awkward silence again.
"Arepa crumbs, and whatever my housemate surrendered, Pepa stopped sneaking me food after I turned five, which is around when Bruno came to live in the walls with me," Carlos explained as though it was common knowledge that Bruno was living in the walls despite the fact Bruno not being dead was still unknown, Camilos eyes widened.
"Bruno lives in the walls?!" Camilo practically exclaimed, getting shot with a glare that had him covering his mouth for being loud.
"Lived in the walls, yes, but given Casitas state, I don't think he'll be living in the walls anymore, idiot," Carlos stated, his unrelenting glare easing just a little bit, this was the first person he's met outside of Casitas literal walls, he needs to stay chill if he wants to be accepted, does he want to be accepted if everyone is like this? He's not sure.
"On another note, I have a name Carlos," Camilo said, Carlos gave a false face of shock.
"Really? I had no clue, what is it, mouse," Carlos said in a weak attempt to insult Camilo, unaware that 'mouse' doesn't have negative connotations he grew up thinking it did due to rat influence.
"It's Camilo, goat," Camilo muttered, already feeling a little bit discouraged, over half of his life he's wanted a brother and now that he has one, other than Antonio, he's really wishing he didn't; he hoped his insult came across clear, instead he was greeted with a pause.
"Whats a goat?" Carlos asked quietly, living in a wall and refusing to interact with your one housemate stifled his knowledge, and his speech ability as well, it sounded a bit disjointed, Camilo had to refrain from laughing at the response.
"You don't know what a goat is?" Camilo asked, fragments of snickers slipped into his voice here and there, he saw the red rise on his twins face.
"Shut up! I've been living in the walls for my entire life!" Carlos exclaimed, leaping from his spot to try and tackle Camilo who effortlessly rolled out of the way, a growl erupted from Carlos chest.
"Use my name and I'll tell you," Camilo said, leaning over Carlos face with a smirk, he got pushed away.
"Fine, Camilo, whats a goat?" Carlos said, spitting Camilos name with venom, Camilo grinned, progress, maybe a friendship or a brotherhood of any form could be forged with this previously unknown Madrigal.
"A goat is like a donkey, except it eats garbage and screams at you sometimes, they're fun," Camilo said, Carlos gave a look of agitation at the previous comparison, "and a mouse is like a rat but a lot cuter and cuddlier, its a compliment."
"And that's what living in a wall does to you, fuck," Carlos said, another thing years of living a wall does to you, prevents you from building a filter because you've only ever heard muffled conversations through walls full of cracks.
"Preach, never lived in a wall, but trust me, living with six girls will change you on a metaphysical level," Camilo said, Carlos raised a brow, Camilo gestured vaguely to the eye shadow, if he could he would gesture to how he speaks and acts in general.
"Glad I didn't have to endure that," Carlos said with a chortle, his grin undeniable.
"Glad I didn't have to live off arepa crumbs, man, you're going to love living in the Casita, my, our Tía Julieta makes the best food," Camilo said, pausing to correct himself halfway through, remembering that this was his twin, his missing half in a sense, the balance he never had in a house of six girls.
"I'll take your word for it, do you think Bruno died in the collapse?" Carlos asked as he sat up a bit, propping himself on his elbows, Camilo shrugged.
"If he could live in the walls for ten years, he'll be fine, probably," Camilo said, he laid down on the ground, hands behind his head, eyes closed, "I don't mind just talking for a little bit."
"That would be... Fine, hope you're up to teaching me about life outside the walls though," Carlos said, Camilo grinned, propping himself up on his shoulders.
"Okay, we have a lot to talk about bro," Camilo started with, letting himself ramble to his twin, Carlos nodded along intently, absorbing the information with ease.
Maybe he could do fine if everyone outside the walls was like Camilo.

Camilo X Reader: Tears XIX
Tumblr media
{ XVII , XVIII }
Summary: Apologies and Thank you's.
~
As he looked up at the dark cloudy sky, Camilo knew his mother found out and he would have to rush back to Casita to calm her down.
.
"Lo siento señora pero-", the shape shifter starts, looking at the clouds and then at his friend's mother.
.
"It's fine.", the woman pats his shoulder. "Go to your mamá. We'll be over in a bit."
.
The green eyed teen nods and starts to run back home.
.
Rain starts pelting down, making the stone roads slippery and somewhat dangerous to run on. Lightning and thunder go off, making the teen worry even more than he already has.
.
I hope Pá is able to calm down Mami before I get there. He thinks hopefully and catches himself from slipping as he makes a quick turn at a corner.
.
Casita opens the doors and Camilo takes a quick second to catch his breath in the entry way before heading off to find his mother. He finds her pacing in her room muttering to herself. The anemometer spinning like crazy with the strong winds gusting about in the room.
.
"Mami?", the boy calls out, walking into the room.
.
"Oh Camilo! They are so hurt and the swelling, the bruising around their neck!", Pepa sobs and more lightning strikes go off. "Aye, por favor, go and check up on them. I'll be fine, I'll be fine."
.
"But-", he goes to speak when his father enters the room with a cup of tea.
.
"Camilo? It's ok, I've got this. Go and check on your friend.", Félix says and pats his son's back.
.
With a sigh and a nod, the teen does as he's told and leaves the room.
As he makes his way to the guest room, his mind races with anxious thoughts again. Camilo quickly shakes his head to get rid of them. "They'll be ok..", he mumbles, trying to convince himself.
.
When you woke there was a burning and squeezing pain in your throat, it hurt to breathe.
.
"Y/n!", you hear Mirabel shout and feel someone help you sit up carefully. "Here, I have some soup broth that my mamá made.", she says taking the bowl from the nightstand and sitting on the edge of the bed.
.
It hurts the first time but then it doesn't after the third and fourth sip of the soup broth. The pain in your throat and head fading away, your vision getting clearer.
.
"How do you feel?", your friend asks.
.
"Sleepy.", you whisper.
.
Dolores enters the room with most of the Madrigal family behind her.
.
"Oh pequeño, thank goodness you're ok.", Pepa says rushing over and holds you.
.
You hum and lean your head on the woman's shoulder, patting her arm.
.
Alma tells you that you can sleep over and that she'll let your parents know they are also welcome to when they get here.
.
Noticing Camilo standing off to the side, you whisper to Mirabel that you want to rest but need to talk to her cousin.
.
"Ok, get some rest. Camilo, can you stay with them for a bit? I need to get something.", she says and stands up, guiding everyone out with a certain look on her face.
.
Somehow, everyone understands and leaves the room wishing you a good night.
.
It's quiet.
.
Camilo fidgets with his hands, not daring to move them from his side. Clenching and un-clenching them into fists.
.
He sees you make a "come here" motion and slowly walks up to you. The floor boards creaking as he does so, his heart pounding so much he feels like you can hear it. Finally, he sits on the edge of the bed, not looking at you.
.
With a small frown, you take one of his hands, seeing the cuts and bruises.
.
"I'm sorry.", Camilo whispers, afraid of you hearing the waiver in his voice.
.
It takes a few seconds for him to register that you've pulled him into a hug. His head resting on your shoulder and your arms wrapped around him, hands on his back.
.
"Thank you Camilo.", you say in a hushed tone.
.
The green eyed teen cries for a second time that day and hugs you back.
.
"I'm sorry! I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry! I'm sorry..", he sobs.
.
You shake your head and hug him tighter, also beginning to cry.
.
All was ok now.
~
Let me tell you. I was stuck. STUCK on how to write out this chapter.
This whole time I was like: I NEED them to get a better relationship but how? And then, after a lot of imagination experimenting (and also having to do life stuff because I had to schedule out my classes) this came to existence.
Thank you for being patient and I hope you enjoyed this chapter.
Until next time~✨

Guards
MLP (My Little Pony, not Encanto lol)
Akuma's OC, Mystic Shadow, also known as Shadow Facade, was standing beside Princess Celestia, glaring at a noble infront of them. Even the other guard beside her was becoming suspicious the more he looked.
The noble was a black coated unicorn mare with dark bluegreen mane and tail, oddly enough, she also had green acidic eyes and a cutie mark that was a black deformed cartoon heart absorbing love.
Facade narrowed their eyes, they looked at the other royal guard beside Celestia, who looks at them and nods, not realizing Princess Celestia saw them communicate with their eyes.
'You know who this asshole is, right Steel?'
'Yeah, I know who she is, she's Queen Chrysalis, what should we do?' Steel Hoof asked with his eyes, he was a grey stallion that had a white mane that had black stripes on it.
"-and that is why we should let others search for any remaining hives that are near us just incase." She finished.
Celestia smiled, "Thank you Rose Love, I will let my royal guards know that."
And then Rose Love's eyes reflected the light for a moment.
What.
WHAT.
Shadow Facade made a wide eyed side glance at Steel Hoof, who did the same thing. They only had one idea in mind.
Expose the queen infront of the ruler.
Shadow Facade noted that there were eight guards, including them and Steel Hoof, each of them were their friends and they all made codes incase. He inhaled deeply, not letting his breath out.
Rose Love suddenly grinned, "Thank you for accepting what I said your highness, I will-"
"CODE LOVE!" Steel Hoof immediately said.
ZAP!
"EEEAACK-" Rose Love turned into Queen Chrysalis and was immediately ambushed by the seven guards, leaving a guard protecting Celestia behind.
"GET HER EYES GET HER EYES!" Shadow Facade said, blocking her horn so she can't cast any magic spells.
"HOW DARE YOU-" Chrysalis exclaimed, but she was immediately blinded in a temporary way.
She tried to change forms, only for the others to interupt her everytime she does. Screeching like a banshee, she thrashed around.
Shadow Facade, still clinging onto her neck, covering her horn, fumed, "RAPID PUNCH! DO WHAT YOUR FUCKING NAME IS MAN!"
BAM!
THUD!
All of them were silent, even the extra guard and Celestia.
"Did we get her?" "Your highness, where should we put her?" A guard questioned a stunned princess Celestia, who just stared wide-eyed at everyone.
Everyone froze.
'Oh crap we ambushed a queen infront of Celestia.' 'Is she going to punish us for not telling her first!?' 'Fucking hell I just wanna go back to Observer and the others.'
She silently coughed into her hoof, "Thank you, everypony, escort her to the dungeon please. Make sure to deactivate her magic with a magic ring." "Yes ma'am!" Multiple of them saluted and lifted the changeling queen with leviation, quickly but carefully moving out, even the extra guard joined.
Shadow Facade broke their guard posture, leaning forward with a glare, "Fucking queens.. this is why I prefer Queen Novo the seapony." They muttered under their breath.
Had Shadow Facade looked back, they would have noticed that the princess was looking at them in curiosity and pride.
'Just who are you, my little pony? You immediately acted when you saw the evidence in one appointment..'

Bit of a different one from my usual style, but I was inspired by a conversation between @magicalmadrigals and I, where we discussed the triplets having a special place for just the three of them.
Word Count: Roughly 1400
Warnings: Brief mentions of miscarriage, but nothing major nor graphic.
*****
They were six years old when the town carpenter gifted them with their beautiful treehouse.  It sat high in the branches, a light beige color with a bright red roof.  It had pictures of a bowl and spoon, a sunburst, and an hourglass carefully hand-painted onto the side.
A birthday present, the carpenter had insisted, refusing Mamá's offer for payment.  Just a little thank you for all the wonderful things the kids had given them.
It quickly became the triplets' favorite spot.  A space where the three of them could relax, and simply enjoy each other's company.
Maybe it was silly to think, but Pepa could have sworn she thundered less under that wooden roof, Bruno's visions seemed less frequent, and Julieta's baking tasted even sweeter than usual.  It was as if the treehouse itself had a magic of its own.
Every afternoon, when their chores were done, the siblings would meet in their special treehouse.  Whether they were rambling about their days, or quietly reading in three separate corners, it didn't matter.
More often than not, they would stay in their fort until the sun went down, or Mamá called them in for dinner.  Whichever came first.
-
They were twelve years old when Pepa climbed the ladder with tears in her eyes, relieved to see her siblings waiting for her.
They didn't know what had happened - they didn't need to - all they knew was that they'd sensed their sister was upset, and how she'd meet them in their special spot.
They held her as she cried and wailed about a boy who'd kissed her the week before (who she was so certain she was going to marry someday), but who suddenly didn't want anything to do with her.
Thunder and lightning crashed and flashed in the sky around them, but their little treehouse kept the three of them safe and dry while they called the boy names their mamá would have punished them for, had she been around to hear them.
-
They were fifteen years old when Julieta laid alone in the treehouse, breathing in the comforting scents of wood and tree pollen, waiting for her siblings to join her.
She'd had a particularly rough day, facing some of the most gruesome injuries she'd ever seen, praying her cooking was strong enough.
Every time she closed her eyes, she saw bloodshed, and the sound of pained moans rushed in her ears.  It was as if she couldn't move past the horrible day she'd gone through, and she hated it.
She'd nearly dozed off when she felt two warm bodies curl up on either side of her.
-
They were twenty five years old when Bruno followed his sisters into the treehouse, wondering how many more times they'd be willing to join him up there.
Julieta was getting married the very next evening, and Pepa was set to follow in just a few months' time.
They sat on the floor and ate cookies until they were sick, just like when they were kids.
His sisters assured him that no matter what, they'd always make time for him - the first and most important man in their lives.
Always.
-
They were twenty eight years old when Julieta and Pepa held two little squirmy bundles in their laps, while Bruno made funny faces for them.
It was different now, so many new people intertwined within their lives.  First spouses, now children.
It was a little overwhelming at times, but Bruno knew his sisters would never fail to be there to hang out and catch up in their special little spot - no matter how many babies they had.
Even if he now also listened to Isabela's babbles or Dolores' cries, it was still his favorite in the world place to be.
-
They were thirty three years old when it was Julieta's turn to cry.
Except while Pepa had lost a boy all those years ago, Julieta had lost her baby.
She'd been seldom seen for days, only leaving her bedroom to feed her girls breakfast, and to occasionally relieve herself.
She was taking it hard - very hard - and her siblings hated seeing her so broken.
She hadn't needed to speak a single word when she finally emerged from her room.  One look, and both Pepa and Bruno immediately knew where to go.
They held her tightly as she wept, until she could cry no more.
Until all that was left were three aching figures with tear stains drying on their cheeks.
-
They were forty years old when there were only two bodies in the treehouse.
Pepa and Julieta looked at each other, knees hugged tightly to their chests.  They had spent the last few hours looking for their brother, scared beyond belief.
The moon was high and neither of them knew what time it was, other than long past when they'd usually gone to bed.
It was their final resort, certain if he'd be anywhere, it would be there.  Whenever one of them needed a break, they were always there.
The two women sat in silence, keeping an ear out for any sign of life… any sign of their missing brother.
Neither of them moved until Agustín poked his head in, stating Mirabel was asking for her mother.
-
They were forty one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, and nine years old when the treehouse sat stagnant. Unused.
Antonio had asked about it once, as he had never seen anyone use it.
No one had the heart to tell him what a special place it really was, only that it wasn't for him to play in.
-
They were fifty years old when they climbed up the rickety ladder again, reveling in the fact that while Casita had been reduced to rubble, their treehouse remained standing tall.
It was as if time had stopped.  The same knots in the wood, the same shelves against the wall.
There was a grape juice stain still barely visible in the corner that Bruno had spilled many moons ago, if you knew where to look.
The little table and chairs they would taste test Julieta's new recipes on, the homemade rain gauges they'd use to see how much Pepa had stormed that week.
They were different now, that was for certain.  Their knees clicked when they ascended the ladder, their backs ached as they stooped beneath the shallow roof.
But it was… nice, all the same.
The three of them.  Together again.
No one had the heart to say it, but the three of them had long-since given up hope of ever being reunited like this, or to ever step another foot in their fort.
They cuddled together just like the old days.  The days before husbands.  Before children.  Before Bruno's disappearance.
Before the Miracle fell.
When it was just the three of them, against the world.
They stayed up there all night.  Surrounded by blankets and pillows (their middle aged bodies no longer as forgiving to lay flat on the floor), and just caught up.
There was so much Bruno had missed, and so much his sisters wanted to hear from him.
So much lost time to make up for.
Just the sound of each other's voices, cracking little inside jokes here or there.  Jokes so obscure they knew if anyone had overheard, would have thought they'd lost their minds.
And maybe they had, but that was okay.  They had each other, and their spot.
They didn't wake until early rays of sunlight poked through the slatted walls.  They heard noises and voices beneath them, and knew their family were looking for them.
Mamá sounded like a basket case, muttering about how she'd already lost Bruno once, she couldn't lose them all now. They heard Mirabel comforting her, assuring her that they wouldn't have left without warning.  Not this time.
Just as Julieta sat up and rubbed her eyes, intent on climbing down and putting their worries to rest, a tiny head poked in the door.
Antonio.  Sweet little Toñito - whose face broke out into the widest grin at the sight of his mother - called back down to the ground that all three of their missing members had been found and accounted for.  Safe and sound.
As the three of them followed the boy back to the safety of the grass below, they smiled.
No matter how many years passed between them, they would always have their treehouse waiting for them when they returned.

Waiting To Get Rid of a Miracle Fic Preview!
“Let’s just… let’s just go inside okay? We’ll talk later.” He shook his head as he pulled the keys out of the ignition. “If they ask where we were, we tell them… we tell them you wanted to go looking for Diego, to help the cops.”
“You want me to lie?”
“I don’t want your children to think their maybe delusional mother left them alone the night their father died to go chasing after a fairytale.”
Pepa flinched again. Not at the volume, but at the anger in his tone. More tears started to fall. She had just wanted to help. She just wanted to make things right again…
“I’m sorry I keep messing up.” A strangled sob ripped past her lips. “I keep wanting to make things better and I just keep messing everything up! I’m here because I wanted a world where Papá lived and our gifts didn’t exist, Félix is dead because I wanted to keep Diego from killing him and he killed him anyway! My kids are wondering where their mother is because I wanted things to go back to the way they were!”
She turned and buried her head into his shoulder, her cries and sobs shaking them both. Immediately, even with his anger, Bruno's arms came up and wrapped around her. “I just want things back the way they were!” she wept. “I just want things to be right again!”
“It’ll be okay,” Bruno whispered, stroking her long red curls. “It’ll be okay, Pepa. I’m gonna get you some help okay? It’ll all be okay…”

M - W
Mama Bear: Míriam and Pepa had a big brawl one time, when Camilo hit Víctor in the stomach with a football. Míriam began to yell at Camilo for "hurting" Víctor, and Pepa arrived to defend her son and almost caused a storm.
Masculine Girl, Feminine Boy: Downplayed as Teresa isn't masculine otherwise, but if someone bullies her brother or insults her father, she will become mad and want to fight, while Víctor is more likely to do nothing except start to cry.  * It's implied that Bruno and Pepa were like this as well when they were younger. Pepa is hardly that masculine otherwise either, but she's got a terrible temper. And it's revealed that years ago, she used to hit Bruno's bullies with lightning. And as for him, he seems to have simply had to wait for his sister to save him.
The Medic: Julieta's power is that she can heal people with her cooking.
Momma's Boy: Bruno was very controlled by his mother when he was younger, and he still has to look into people's futures because she says so. He was only able to ever stand up to her after he got married, but he still chooses his battles. * Víctor prefers to let his mother Míriam treat his wounds when he's attacked, despite the fact that his aunt Julieta has a healing power. And he will let Míriam pamper him because he can't say no to her. But he's a rare case of this trope, who is lucky enough to have a father and to have a good relationship with him. * And also, both Pablo and Mariano are shown to be very close to their mothers. And Teresa and Dolores agree that it's a good quality.
Muggle Born of Mages: While it's true that her father has no magic in his family, Mirabel is the first kid in two generations of her mother's family to have no "gift".
Multigenerational Household: Teresa and Víctor and their parents share a house with the following relatives: a grandmother, two aunts, their husbands, and even six cousins. When they lose the Casita, they have to go live with their maternal grandparents instead. But it makes them qualify for this trope again.
My Beloved Smother: As a single mother with war trauma, Abuela Madrigal has been a controlling force in the lives of her three children. She's pleased to know that they all became Happily Married. But now, it is time to push the grandkids into marriage! She becomes a lot better after the Casita crumbles though. * Míriam is dangerously close to being this too as she's very protective of Víctor. This is kind of justified by how often he has fainted though. And luckily, Bruno is good at guiding him without pampering him. Míriam is notably less smothering towards Teresa, except that she shows a bit of concern when she meets Pablo. But that is because Míriam's sister is stuck in a bad marriage, and she's afraid of seeing Teresa end up in a similar situation…
Obnoxious In-Laws: Downplayed with Abuelo Gonzalez, Bruno's father-in-law. He told Abuela Gonzalez once that he wondered if Bruno is "right in the head", and he doesn’t get how he can have rats as pets as he sees them as vermin. Bruno decides to simply do what he can to never ever anger his father-in-law. And usually, that is good enough to keep Abuelo Gonzalez satisfied. However, Teresa is fully aware that her father and her abuelo have a strained relationship.  * There's a bit of tension between Míriam and Abuela Madrigal too, since Míriam once insisted that Víctor was too young to work. He was only five years old then, but the thought that a magic gift wouldn't be used really scared Abuela Madrigal. This ended with a big brawl. And even though they mostly just let each other be after that, Míriam just knew that she could only defy Abuela Madrigal once.
Official Couple: Bruno and Míriam are the main couple in the first two chapters. But later in the story, Teresa and Pablo are this instead.
Only Friend: Teresa and Mirabel are close despite an age difference of six years. And when Teresa meets Pablo, Mirabel is very afraid that she will be all alone.     * Later, Pablo refers to Mariano as his only friend. And still, they had only started to talk to each other after Pablo started dating Teresa.
Personal Rainclowd: Pepa will often get one if she gets upset about something. But if she's really upset, it is even possible for her to cause a hurricance or make it snow.
Power Incontinence: It is very easy for the Madrigals to lose control of their gifts. Teresa and Bruno can see people's futures by accident if they get angry, Pepa is known to cause a storm if she's upset, Isabela even hurts Mariano with a plant.
The Quiet One: Dolores is clearly the least talkative one out of the Madrigals. Teresa found it hard to even talk to her until they both found a boyfriend, so they could talk about that and have double dates.  * Leonor is very quiet too and just works in the shop without causing any trouble. But she and Teresa have one important conversation about their father figures, which is more than enough to clue Teresa in on that Leonor hides a lot of pain.
Raised By Grandparents: This happened to Teresa's cousin Leonor, who had to live with Abuelo and Abuela Gonzalez. Her mother had to leave her with them, because she married a violent drunk and wanted to keep her daughter from him.
Red Oni, Blue Oni: Pepa is very emotional and capricious (red), Julieta is calm and responsible (blue). * Míriam is clearly more introverted and responsible (blue) than her flighty sister Malena (red). * Agustín is calm and composed (blue), Félix is jolly and extroverted (red). * Mirabel is bubbly and talkative (red), Dolores is calmer and quiet (blue). * Camilo is extroverted and loves to entertain people (red), while Víctor is introverted and prefers to stay at home and read (blue). * Camilo is furthermore an extroverted red to either of his siblings, as Dolores and Antonio are introverted blues.
Seers: Bruno and Teresa can look into the future. But it becomes a burden when people accuse them of causing their bad luck…
Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: Pablo seems to have been more fragile than his brother Manuel, who managed to become a strong carpenter like their father.
Settle For Sibling:  Even though Isabela and Dolores are cousins and not sisters, they end up in a variant of this trope. Everybody seems to just expect Mariano to propose to Isabela, but she's not interested and is only agreeing to it to please Abuela Madrigal. Dolores happens to be in love with Mariano though, but she won't say anything about it until Teresa has a vision about them. But in the end, Isabela is free to not agree to a loveless marriage. And it leaves Dolores free to date Mariano…
Sibling Yin-Yang: Pepa is hot-tempered and emotional, Julieta is calmer and more responsible. Bruno is pretty much a middle ground between his sisters, being introverted but still very likely to show emotions like anxiety and shame.  * Míriam is very responsible and more introverted, Malena is very flighty and more extroverted. * Isabela is seen as the family beauty and a "perfect princess", Luisa is very tall and strong and muscular, and Mirabel is neither too girly-girly nor too tomboyish, but she's looking for her purpose in the family, where she's the only kid who has has no magic gift. * Dolores is very calm and quiet, Camilo is very mischievous and an entertainer, and Antonio has animal friends, but he will be introverted around people. * Pablo has never been as strong or as good at carpentry as his brother Manuel, but he turns out to be less judgemental than most of his family as well.
Sickeningly Sweethearts: Míriam is fond of hugging and kissing Bruno in public, even if people are annoyed by it. Bruno and Míriam can also be lovey-dovey in front of their kids, and that is after twenty-two years of marriage.
Single Woman Seeks Good Man: Míriam quickly knew that despite his terrible reputation among the villagers, Bruno was notably nicer than her sister's suitors. And she also saw that Agustín and Félix were good for Julieta and Pepa.  * And in the following generation, Pablo is truly good for Teresa. He is the only villager to feel bad about not doing anything, when a group of bullies had attacked Víctor, or to show some skepticism about all the terrible rumors about Bruno, and even to accept that rats can be pets. Likewise, Dolores fell in love with Mariano because of his Nice Guy qualities.
So Proud of You: Bruno is very good at telling Víctor that he's so proud of him. But as Teresa has been seen as stronger and her parents focus more on Víctor, she has never been told that. When she's able to replicate one of her father's visions though, Bruno finally does tell her that he is proud of her.
Speaks Fluent Animal: Antonio's power is that he communicates with animals.
Super Hearing: Dolores's power is that she can hear everything in the Encanto.
Supreme Chef: Julieta's power is that she can heal people with her cooking.
Tomboy and Girly-Girl: Tall and muscular Luisa is strong enough to lift up the village church. Isabela is known as the family beauty and a "perfect princess". But it changes after Isabela has a make-over…
Town Girls: Isabela is seen as a great beauty and a "perfect princess" (femme). Luisa is tall and strong and muscular (butch). Mirabel is between them being neither that girly-girly nor that tomboyish (neither).
Understanding Boyfriend: If a guy wants to date one of the magic Madrigal girls, he has to be this. Teresa is even astonished by how Pablo is almost too good to be true, but she can find comfort in that he and Mariano are there for each other.
Unusual Pets for Unusual People: Bruno and Víctor keep rats as pets, which is seen as very strange and adds to their bad reputation. Teresa grosses a group of girls out by picking up a rat. And even Abuelo Gonzalez calls rats "vermin", when Víctor has three of them in a cage when they must stay with their abuelos. That leads to a bit of conflict as Bruno of course will support his son about this…
Violently Protective Wife: Downplayed as Míriam doesn’t actually use violence, but all the villagers know that she will chase them away from Bruno. Justified as looking into the future for too long gives him migraines, and it could even make him faint...
Weather Manipulation: Pepa's mood is what decides the weather in the Encanto. So you will have good weather if she's happy and bad weather if she's unhappy.
World's Strongest Woman: Luisa's power is her super strength.
