You never liked hospitals, never liked the plain rooms and shiny laminate floors. You hated how much sorry was trapped within the walls, and you could never bear to hear the pained cries of someone who’d just lost a loved one. But, for a whole week, you sat in an uncomfortable plastic chair, next to an ordinary hospital bed, praying and wishing that the person sleeping, would wake up.
It had been a week since the events of Hawkins and the upside down, since you and your friends fought Vecna, and most importantly, it was a week since Eddie was nearly massacred by the bats, left lying on the ground and covered in blood. Everyone else got out of the upside down relatively unscathed, but Eddie was barely breathing when Dustin and Steve got him to safety, barely getting him to the hospital in time.
When he got here, the doctors were horrified when they looked at the open wounds covering Eddie’s torso, some of them already infected by the poisonous air from the other dimension. They were shocked he was alive, and even more shocked when he started to recover, kept company by the constant visits from the Hellfire Club, Steve, Robin, Max and most often, you.
You had hardly left his side, only going home when visiting hours ended, to get a few hours of sleep and freshen up with a shower. You knew that everyone was worried about you as much as they were worried about Eddie, but they also knew you wouldn’t leave him in such a vulnerable state after everything that happened.
“C’mon Henderson, I’m taking you home tonight. Everyone was gonna grab some pizza at mine.” Steve’s hand is on your shoulder, squeezing it gently to shake you out of your thoughts, and though you knew he meant well, you couldn’t help but scoff and look at him.
“Sure, I really wanna eat pizza while my boyfriend is barely alive in a hospital. Such a good idea, Harrington.” Steve frowns, a look of hurt washing over his face, but he sighs and shakes his head, understanding that you were tired and worried and feeling so helpless.
No one knew if Eddie was going to wake up, the doctors couldn’t tell if the infection had affected his brain and led him to gain brain damage, but with him being able to breathe on his own, they were set on letting hope run its course. And Steve did feel bad, he thought they’d won against Vecna and saved Hawkins once again until he found Dustin with Eddie’s body.
Eddie had tried to be a hero, tried to be everything most people in Hawkins thought he could never be, and it had nearly cost him his life. So you sat and waited, watching over him as Dustin talked to him about an idea for a D & D campaign, Robin nattered about her taste of music, and Steve sat and waited with you, trying to keep you afloat too.
“Look, I know you want to stay here, kid…but you’re exhausted, you haven’t had a decent meal in days, and you need a break from this place.” Steve’s looking at you then, crouched to your level and pleading with you to take a break, get some air and let loose some of the tension caught in your shoulders.
Then you both heard it, a small cough. Neither of you took much notice, thinking maybe it was caused by another patient who shared the ward with Eddie, but then his machines started getting louder, and soon, to the surprise of you and Steve…he was speaking.
“Pizza… that sounds nice.” Eddie’s voice was awfully croaky, and he couldn’t help coughing, neck craning to try and get into a more comfortable position. Neither you nor Steve reacted, and in reality, neither of you knew what to do. The nurses and doctor swarmed in then, gently pushing the two of you out of the way as they looked Eddie over, and you couldn’t stop staring.
“Okay, I gotta be honest…you might need to pinch me because I don’t know if I’m dreaming or not.” Steve’s remark made you laugh, grinning wildly as you looked at Eddie, taking in his tired eyes and relieved smile. Eddie laughs in response to Steve, and in return gets scolded by a nurse, who’s shoving a straw in between his lips so he’ll drink some water.
Finally, the three of you are left to talk, and you have to stop from throwing yourself at Eddie. He laughs when you hug him, gripping you tight with both arms as your face burrows down into the crook of his neck. He can feel the tears soaking into his hair from your eyes, but like the gentlemen he is, he doesn’t mention it. And when you pull away, he doesn’t let you go far, making sure you’re perched on the edge of his bed within arms reach.
“Good to have you back, man. Now I can tell Dustin his hero survived.” Steve shakes Eddie’s hand without a thought, grinning with relief, and Eddie’s got an arm wrapped around your waist, a hand holding your thigh to ground himself into reality. “Honestly dude, what you did down there, Dustin told me all about it, I thought it was wicked. Anyway, you two have your moment, I’m going to call the others and let them know you’re awake.” Steve’s gone then, and Eddie lets out a soft chuckle. He tries to sit up higher and put his back against the headboard, but he struggles, nearly falling to the side before you catch him.
“Woah, baby, hang on.” You help him move his position and make sure the covers are up to his waist, pillows fluffed properly and that he’s comfortable. A comfortable silence settles over the two of you as you pour him another cup of water, holding the cup for him to drink.
“You know, everyone was worried sick about you, Dustin kept reading the D&D manual to you, hoping you’d wake up.” Eddie looks away then, a sudden onslaught of tears caught in his lashes and taking him by surprise. There’s a lump in his throat that he just can’t manage to swallow down even though he tries with all his might, and when you take his hand and rub the back of it with your thumb, Eddie’s a goner.
He’s in your arms then, gripping on to you tightly and hoping that none of this was a dream, or some fucked up idea of heaven, and you’re holding him just like he always likes, a hand stroking his hair and another one wrapped around his shoulders. He sobs, letting out all of the built-up emotion, trying to shove back the memories from his near-final moments, and you just let him, soothing with soft whispers and quiet hums.
“I…I didn’t mean to be so stupid…I really didn’t.” Eddie pulls away then so he can speak, fitfully wiping his face and frowning when you look at him. “I thought everything would be okay, in some sort of fucked up insanity. But then…the bats and Dustin and…I guess I liked the idea of not running for once.”
Eddie’s words are quiet, and he’s not really expecting a response, but he still gets one, with your hand cupping his cheek and your lips pressing gently against his chapped ones.
“You, Eddie Munson, are a hero. And maybe you don’t want to hear it, but you are the furthest thing from a coward. You made the distraction that we needed, you protected my brother as any good man should, and you did something so stupidly dumb and brave, in the hopes of saving people you didn’t even know.” You stop for a moment, having to take a breath as Eddie’s gaze bores into yours, and when you take his hands, he doesn’t hesitate to squeeze them. “I know our stupid town thinks you’re a monster, a freak and some devil-worshipping murderer, but I don’t care. Fuck what they say, fuck what they think.”
“To be honest…I was worried about you being here if I woke up.” Eddie’s got so much sadness in his eyes that you can feel your heart breaking in two, and once again you’re pulling him to you, soothing him with soft kisses and gentle caresses.
“Of course I was going to be here, baby. There was no chance I was going to miss you waking up, being one of the first people you saw. I’ve been waiting right here for days, right by your side. You weren’t alone, Eds.” Eddie sniffs against your shoulder, and he leans into your touch when you press your lips to the side of his mouth, getting a taste of salty tears and warm skin. “Your uncle’s gonna be so happy to see you, love. He comes to visit every day too, sometimes he’d play you music through your beaten-up Walkman.” Eddie laughs at this, a noise that’s so happy and filled with relief that it makes your body tingle, and he’s shaking his head in amusement.
“That reminds me, someone’s gotta get rid of my Master of Puppets tape, I don’t think I can listen to that song ever again.” You laugh back, leaning in to kiss him again and again, releasing the feeling of his hands on your body, the warmth of his skin against yours and his hair brushing your face and hands where you cupped his cheeks.
The two of you kissed for what seemed like ages, and when more doctors and nurses came to fiddle with his wires and monitors, Eddie couldn’t take his eyes off you or wipe his shit-eating grin off his face.
An hour or so later, he was in a private room, something that Steve managed to swing, and the whole gang was sitting in the various chairs and the free space on the bed, munching on pizza and sharing chaotic stories. Dustin kept going on and on about how well Eddie rocked on the top of the trailer, and Robin boasted about how good of a shot Nancy was, and everyone seemed happy, excited even.
This was home to you and Eddie, surrounded by your friends and your brother, listening to insane tales and laughing when Steve nearly spilled a soda on himself. Eddie was alive, everyone was safe, and sure you’d all been to hell and back a couple more times than anyone would like, but you’d move on.
And as the bites on Eddie’s torso healed, so would his trauma, and you were never going to leave his side, always waiting for him to be ready, always waiting for Eddie to just be…Eddie.

Chapter 2,
Welcome to Hellfire
___________________________________________________________
The morning sun rays peeked in which woke me up from my slumber. Well that and hearing the soft snores of my Teddy Eddie sleeping right next to me. The sun making his sleeping afterglow seem ethereal, his hair all sprawled out like a halo of dark brown curls, his guitar pick necklace clung onto his skin like a birthmark.
And of course who could forget the tattoos. The black widow and demon head he had just over his heart, when I rose my head up I could see the puppeteer (my personal favorite) on his inner right forearm, and of course his favorite the bats in honor of Ozzy Osbourne. And even if it was hidden, my second favorite, the wyvern dragon along his bicep.
It's been circling in my mind for a while, maybe we could get matching tattoos. I stroked underneath my forearm before turning back up to Eddie and said his name.
“Eddie.” His closed eyes twitched as his head slightly jerked and he let out a hum in rejection.
“Mm-mm.”
“Mm-mm.” I copied him. We continued to lay there in bed until finally his eyes started to open, revealing the beautiful chocolate button eyes that first made me head over heels for this man. I tilted my head cutely at him and he just stared at me before moaning tiredly as he squinted his eyes shut, which I also copied back at him.
He moaned tiredly again as he turned his head around and I copied him, his moans soon turned to questioning hums as he quickly turned his head back towards me and I did the same. We stared at each other before I broke out into giggles.
“Are you copying me?” he asked in that tired, hoarse tone of his.
“Are you copying me?” I mimicked.
“Fuck off, how old are you?” he raised his hand to his eye rubbing the sleep out of it while he stretched. I copied his exactly movements as he asked me. “What time is it?”
“What time is it?” I parroted. I then felt his hands tickling my stomach to which I let out a squeal as I laughed and he rolled on top of me kissing and blowing raspberries into my neck. “Okay! OKAY I YIELD!! I YIEEHEHELDD!!!” he ceased his attack but still caged me between his body and the bed.
“You should know better than to mock Eddie the Banished.”
“I couldn’t help myself. You’re cute in the mornings.” He playfully glared at me before capturing my lips with his. His hands now cupping my cheeks as he kissed deeper before trailing down my neck.
“If I’m cute then that makes you ethereal. Like the Lady Galadriel.”
“Now you insult me.”
“I insult thee not fair Lady.” He lifted his head as he looked down at me. “Truly, you are more fairer than all the jewels beneath the earth.” I scoffed and rolled my eyes.
“Okay Gimli, get up. We need to get dressed and go to school.” Eddie whined. “Come on you promised me this would be our year. And we can’t finally graduate if we’re always tardy.” I said getting out of bed reaching for my bra and getting a pair of underwear before I went over to the closet.
“Who the fuck decided school should start an hour after sunrise? Especially for us adolescents?”
“We’re not adolescents anymore Ed.” I said getting a Motely Crüe shirt. I tossed him his Ozzy shirt and I asked him, “So what do you think of the new freshmen?”
“They seem cool. Sucks that their friend left them for Carver’s sport’s cult.”
“The peak of popularity. Not even the gymnastics team could be counted with the likes of them.” I recalled on how when a guy would join the team, all the basketball players would call him fag for joining a girl’s sport.
News flash! A man can be just as flexible and strong as a girl in the art of gymnastics, clearly they haven’t seen the Olympics.
“But like I said, they may have experience in their own little D&D world, but they’ve never crossed one of my campaigns.”
“You really are cold-blooded aren’t you?” I teased. I felt his arms wrap around me and he whispered darkly in my ear.
“Guess last night wasn’t proof enough.” He softly bit my earlobe which made me gasp out before I turned into his arms and looked up at him as I wrapped my arms around his neck, stroking the baby hairs hidden underneath those luscious locks.
“Oh Eddie~ Last night you were unhinged, you were like some desperate howling demon. You frightened me.” I then pecked his lips before whispering with a smirk. “Do it again.” He smirked and said.
“As many times as you like my Queen.” He cupped my face as we deeply kissed each other passionately when a knock was heard at the door.
“I’d kindly accept you kids relationship, I ask that you don’t be doing no hanky-panky before school.” Wayne’s voice spoke from the other side.
“Sorry Wayne.” I called out.
“Yeah sorry old man.” Eddie called out.
“Just make sure you both are out of here on time.” Eddie and I looked at each other before softly laughing as we continued to get dressed before stepping into the kitchen. I quickly made us a quick breakfast before packing mine and Eddie’s lunches.
“Bye Uncle, have a good day’s rest.” Eddie bid him goodbye before heading out to the van. I walked up to Wayne and gave him a quick hug and kiss goodbye.
“Have a good sleep Wayne.”
“Thanks darlin, now go on. You were late the first day of school, can’t have you being tardy on the second.” He said patting my hand that rested over his chest. I nodded then grabbed my stuff and headed out to the van. Eddie opened the passenger door and extended his hand out.
“Mi’lady.”
“Thank you.” I said in a posh, British tone before accepting his hand and got in the van. He shut the door behind me before racing over to the driver’s side and started the old girl up. However it took about three tries for the van to even start up when a quick backfire from the back exhaust startled us both. “Maybe you should have a look at that after school.”
“Yeah, she was acting up yesterday. Almost didn’t think I’d get her started at all.”
“She ain’t what she used to be you know.”
“Hey! She’s old but she’s got it where it counts. She didn’t mean it Baby, she’ll apologize to you soon enough.” I rolled my eyes as Eddie stroked his van’s console affectionately after offending his car’s age. I looked through Eddie’s cassette collection he kept under the passenger seat and went through them until I found my Mixtape cassette and put it into the radio.
Soon ‘Carry on my Wayward son’ came over the speakers and Eddie looked at me, well when I say look I meant an emotionless glare.
“You may have gotten me to listen to more metal, but there’s no taking the Classic Rock girl out of me Munson. You knew that from the start.”
“I feel like I’ve failed you as a boyfriend.” He said shaking his head.
“Oh shut up and drive.” then like the maniac driver he was, he floored the van in reverse before putting it in drive and hit the gas. I was being thrown backward before going forward and I shouted at him. “You crazy fucker!”
“Sorry babe can’t hear you. Radio’s a little loud.” He said turning the radio louder. I shook my head at him and playfully flipped him off before joining in singing the song as I rolled my window down and felt the wind on my face.
We pulled into the school parking lot during the first chorus of Renegade by Styx. Already from the loud volume of the radio, students were looking at us judgmentally (hey ya’ll can blast your shitty pop music and no one complains to you).
Eddie shut off the engine as soon as he parked which turned to song off and I reached into the back to grab my backpack before opening the door and got out.
“You do realize this means we’ve got like 45min of free time left? Why did we have to get here so soon?”
“Because last night a certain someone got us distracted from our Math homework which still remains incomplete.”
“I was hoping you’d forgot about it like I did.” I walked over to him as the two of us walked towards the school.
“Not on your life Munson. Remember you promised me…..”
“Yeah, I know, I know. I’d really start to pull my weight and meet you half way. I know babe. Although I didn’t really hear you complain about leaving the homework forgotten.” He couldn’t help but tease as he got into my face and gave my cheek a quick peck.
“You are a menace Munson.”
“And you are a bookworm Murdock. But I’ll give you points cause you’re a sexy, badass bookworm.” I rolled my eyes for the umpteenth time this morning alone as we entered inside and went to our homeroom class.
The day went on as any normal school day does but it wasn’t until almost lunch time when something didn’t sit right with me. Instead of continuing down toward the cafeteria, I made a back turn towards the staircases.
“Roxxi? Whoa stop!” I heard Eddie chase after me speed walking to even try and catch up with me. “Roxxi? Will you slow down? Baby!” I shushed him as finally approached the lower staircase and walked down it and soon I heard voices.
“Please just leave me alone.” A female Australian accent spoke up.
“You hear this lads? The British posh is telling us to leave her.” A heard a male’s voice mock her accent, not only that but he deliberately mixed up her accent.
“C’mon baby cakes, we’ll show you how we American men have a party.” Another male’s voice spoke. I peeked over to see the three biggest, sexist bullies in the entire school. Buddy McGee, Shaun Matthews, and Richard ‘The Dick’ Lambert.
Now these guys are known throughout Hawkins as the ‘skirt chasers’ any girl in sight they’ll sniff out like bloodhounds and try to do anything to get them into having sex or give all three of them blowjobs. Eddie peeked over on top of me and I felt him tense up. Not only that but these guys have been held back even more times than Eddie and I have, at this point the school should just kick them out since they were in their mid-20s now.
“Now drop the skirt or get on your knees you British hussy.” Said Dick. That’s when I had enough, using my famous ‘Olivier the Viking’ voice, I proclaimed as I hid back into the corner of the stairs pushing Eddie with me.
“ALRIGHT PERVERTS!!! PAY ATTENTION OVER HERE!!!” The voice I used for Olivier was strong, powerful with a gruff to it. Suddenly hearing this growling, thunderous voice echo off the halls made the boys as well as the young girl jump. “Now, you walk away from this girl and never gape at her again, before I tear your bodies apart LIMB FROM LIMB!!”
“Where the fuck is that coming from?” I heard Buddy say.
“I don’t know dude but this is actually freaking me out!” whimpered Shaun.
“Listen to you yah bunch of pussies. It’s probably some punk trying to prank us. Come out and show yourself coward!” that’s when I prepped my biggest trick yet. I took off my jacket and stretched my arms for a second before letting out a haunting groan as I slowly bent backwards into a basic bridge stance.
I even rolled my eyes to the back of my head and continued to groan and gasp out labored breaths before going down the stairs just like the little girl in The Exorcist. I kept up the animalistic and demonic like growls as I crawled down the stairs. Guess the idiots saw me cause next thing I was hearing was them screaming like little bitches and fleeing the scene.
Once I got to the bottom of the stairs, I got back up and puffed out my shirt before wiping my mouth of the spit I had even gathered up and hummed sassily.
“And that’s what happens when you don’t give consent.” I turned towards the young girl and asked her. “You okay?”
“You just—you actually crawled down those stairs like that horror film.”
“An old talent really. I’ve been doing shit like that since I was three. But for real, are you okay?”
“Yeah. You—you saved me. I thought nobody would even dare try to come down here to help me.”
“Believe me, you’re not the only victim of those guys. They round up their targets here because they know the CCTV’s can’t get this stairwell.”
“You say it like you’ve been one of their victims.” I gave a slight twitch under my chin before looking up towards Eddie. “Oh, I’m sorry I…..”
“It’s fine. Now pardon me for asking—”
“I’m not from the UK, I know my accent sounds similar to theirs but I’m actually from Australia.”
“I know.” She looked up at me.
“You do?” I nodded.
“I mean it’s been a long time, I mean a really long time but I did go to Australia once as a kid when my parents were on business there. We lived there a whole summer, I think it was—Queensboro?”
“You mean Queensland?” she asked me.
“Yes that was it, sorry. Again like I said it was a long, long time ago.”
“That’s cool. My parents and I moved here from Darwin.”
“Really? What’s that like?” we proceeded up the stairs as she told me about her old home and her family she had to leave behind ever since her father managed a good job in Indianapolis but the cheapest they could live in was here at Hawkins.
After inviting the young girl (whom I learned was named Lauren Kirkland) and sitting down with her at lunch. I did invite her to sit with us over at Hellfire but she asked if it could just be me and her to which I understood (especially after what she went through with those pedos). And together the two of us just chatted away.
It seemed to go along fairly well and she seemed like a nice girl so when I talked about what the Hellfire club stood for and if she’d be interested in joining, that’s when she said.
“Oh I’m sorry. If my parents caught me playing that game, they’d write me off as a satanist. I don’t think I can risk that happening, I’m sorry.”
“Oh, that’s okay. I understand.”
“Not that I don’t think you are, I mean c’mon girl. You saved my arse back there from this cunts. I can never be more grateful to you for that Roxxi. It’s just my parents are extremely religious, I can’t even really have a boyfriend until I have their approval which sucks.”
“Yeah. Religious parents are the worse. But really Lauren, I’m not upset. Maybe I’ll see you around?”
“Yeah totally. Hey umm….you wouldn’t happen to know if there’s a gymnastics team here at this school, would you?” oh if only she knew.
“There is actually. But tryouts don’t start till after Thanksgiving Break.”
“Really? Are they any good?”
“We may be a small town, but our gymnastics team is golden. We even got state championship from ‘80-83.”
“Wow no way!? Man I’d sure like to meet their Captain. It’s usually the Captain that always brings them victory, without them the whole team falls apart.” Memories and flashbacks came flooding back to me and I felt my heart sink to my stomach. “Roxxi? You okay?”
“Hmm? Oh yeah, yeah I’m fine. Well just know this, you stick your landing right and focus on getting good grades, and I can bet the team’s gonna be lucky to have you with them.” The lunch bell soon rang signaling that lunch was over.
“Well, I better get to class, see yah around Roxxi?”
“Sure Lauren, see you around.” She walked off putting her purse over her shoulder and her bag in her hand. I sighed heavily before I felt a jacket being placed around my shoulders. I looked down to see my red jacket being put back on me by none other than Eddie.
“Well you girls certainly hit it off. Are we expecting a new female member along with the other two freshmen?”
“Unfortunately no. Her parents are crazy religious and think D&D is satanic and have forbidden her from partaking in the game.”
“Jesus Christ, the media and shallow-minded parents! It’s like they didn’t used to pretend that they were sea-biggen pirates or fairy princesses trapped in a castle guarded by ogres and dragons!”
“I know baby. But don’t go blaming Lauren. She’s actually a sweet girl. Gonna even tryout for the gymnastics team later this semester.” At the mention of the sport, Eddie’s eyes softened.
“Do you ever miss it?” I turned to him and shrugged.
“Sometimes. Mainly because of the rush of adrenaline with every flip or trick, the feel of the chalk on my hands, the wind against my face. I didn’t care about the awards or the competitions. I just—loved knowing that I could defy gravity for just a split moment every time I got out on that ring.” Eddie pulled me close to him.
“You were the best out there. Even better than Spiderman and Daredevil combined.”
“Now I wouldn’t go saying that.”
“Too late I already did.”
“Eddie!”
“There’s no talking me out of it. Those guys would be on the ground worshiping your skills of balance and agility.” I scoffed and rolled my eyes as we left the cafeteria and headed to our next class.
The days dragged on but soon it was Friday. As the day went on I knew all Eddie could think about was the first campaign he had been planning for the first half of the semester. He was especially excited knowing that I was coming back into the club to be his DM partner.
We, mainly Eddie, waited impatiently until the last bell rang signaling the weekend was here but also Hellfire would finally begin. Eddie grabbed my hand and we were the first to make a break for the door as we raced towards the theater to get the room set up.
Eddie took out our notes and folders as he set up the table while I got his throne and bestowed it to him.
“Your throne my Master.” I said bowing lowly to him. He came over, placed a finger under my chin and lifted it up as he said.
“Our throne, my Mistress.” He captured my lips with his as we passionately kissed each other moaning into the other’s mouth as Eddie cupped each side of my face while I gripped his DIO denim jacket.
“Eww gross! If you guys are really just gonna suck faces, care to do that in the private room in the back?” Gareth’s voice soon spoke up. Eddie growled lowly before muttering darkly.
“Pay no heed to these mere peasants my Queen. They do not understand the spell you put me under.”
“I have no need to hear the complaints of these mortals my strong Master. But if he does piss you off, you have control over his fate.” At that Eddie’s grin grew dark and sinister while I heard Gareth’s loud gulp of nervousness before he raced off to take his seat. Jeff and Grant soon came in afterward as Eddie looked down at his watch.
“Those freshmen have got 2 minutes before they’re banished to the Bayou of eternal shit for the rest of the campaign this semester.” Eddie did not like to be kept waiting for any campaign. I came over to him, took his hand and gave his knuckles a soft kiss.
“Give them time, they’re still learning the layout of the place probably.”
“We’ve showed them where it is, it’s not that hard to get to the theater.” Eddie kept looking down at his watch until suddenly the doors burst open and in came Dustin, Mike and another freshman who wore a Hawkin’s high letterman jacket. At seeing this new kid, Eddie’s eyes grew harsh while the other guys grew nervous.
“Sorry we’re…..we got caught up in the after school Friday traffic.” Dustin panted.
“And I thought it was tough at the middle school. Jesus…..” Mike said trying to take a breath.
“Who is this that you brought before us?” asked Eddie. Dustin and Mike looked up nervously along with the other freshman kid.
“Oh right, remember we told you about our friend Lucas? Well this is him. We managed to convince him to join your campaign this week.”
“I’m only doing this cause the coach suddenly decided to cancel practice last minute due to a family emergency and the assistant coach was out sick today.” Lucas said. Eddie looked at him before immediately saying with a grin.
“Absolutely not.”
“What? What do you mean?”
“This is Hellfire club. Not the laundry baskets cult. You two can stay, you get out.” Eddie said leaning over his throne staring the three freshmen in the eye.
“C’mon Eddie. Lucas really is a great player. He makes our team and he’s a great strategist.” Dustin tried to reason with him.
“When members ask to join this club, they must have fulltime commitment to this club. I don’t accept members who have already chosen their ranks, especially if they’re in league with—the dark side.” He sneered the last part.
“See I told you guys this was a waste of time. I’ll just call my mom and ask her to pick me up.” Lucas said to his friends.
“Hold it right there Sudar the Bold!” I exclaimed using Olivier’s voice (which I also used as my Dungeon Mistress voice to get the men in line). Lucas froze in his spot before turning to face me wide-eyed. I stood up from the arm of Eddie’s throne and walked over to Lucas.
I may be only 5’4 with him towering over me by 4 inches but the look in my eye made him shrink down a foot or two.
“From what I understood Sudar the Bold never fled from a challenge. If you dare walk out this door, you will forever be branded as a coward and a traitor to your party. And do you know what we do to traitors of this party?”
“What?” he asked nervously.
“We announce it before the entire school. During lunchtime, at high noon. For all to see as we march around the entire cafeteria with you tied like a dog as we chant your name as well as brand you with the traitors mark. So will you do this for your friends? Or reveal yourself as a sham?” I quirked my brow at him challengingly to which Lucas turned to his friends before saying.
“Alright fine I’ll—I’ll stay. But please, even if I don’t get it please don’t announce my time here. The team will kick me out for sure.”
“You have my word Sudar.” I said extending my hand. He shook it before I said. “New travelers, take your seats. And hold on to your butts. You’re in for a hell of a ride.” Immediately Dustin raced towards one of the open chairs with Mike following shortly behind him and Lucas slowly taking up the final seat. I took my seat upon Eddie’s lap who then turned on his Dungeon Master voice.
“Welcome back brave party. When we last ended our journey, we vanquished the Vampire Lord Melkor and his legion of Vampires but now a new threat is arriving. A threat so dangerous and so frightening, that he himself was banished from Melkor’s ranks in the army. We first open up on the tavern the Green Dragon where the members Tyrion, Silent stalk and Gareth the Great are celebrating their last victory. When in walks three new travelers they had never seen before…..”
Eddie continued to narrate the introduction of the Party and our newest members into the party before they went off on their mission to investigate this new rising evil over the land.
I’ll admit the kids really impressed me and even though he couldn’t show it as much, Eddie was thoroughly impressed, especially by Dustin’s bravery and natural-born leadership. He made some good calls, however his ego definitely costed them some points as they came across the first threat of giant spiders.
“You’re weak, you’re injured and scared as the Spider Queen now crawls before you. Her pincers moving almost in a manner of her licking her lips. Clicks coming out from her as she tells you.” I made the clicking sounds before making a hacking sound and speaking out breathlessly.
“You morsels shall quench my thirst. None has entered my domain and escaped alive. Surrender now or face my children!”
“Hundreds of giant spiders begin to decent from the trees and webs. Do you flee and heed the Spider Queen’s warning? Or do you stand your ground and fight?” Eddie spoke to the company. They looked at one another before Dustin said.
“These spiders are paper weights to what we’ve faced before. I say we fight!”
“To the death!” Gareth said agreeing with Dustin. Soon the party began chanting ‘to the death’ which got Eddie and me fired up.
“It has been decided. Roll for the initiative.” He said tossing the d20 to Dustin to make the first move. He rolled a 15 which got the party cheering as Dustin used his axe of Valarian to swipe at the first set of spiders, chopping them in half like paper. The players continued to roll, some were good and some weren’t so good which costed them to be bitten by the Spider’s venom, paralyzing them unless they get the anti-venom from the Queen.
A mixture of both cheers and exclaims of defeat rung through the room as Eddie laughed manically and I let out a witch’s cackle at those who dared challenge us. Finally it all came down to finishing off the Spider Queen. The remaining members who were still standing were Lucas, Dustin and Mike. They had to be smart because this Spider Queen was their only hope in saving the members who had been bitten.
If she was burnt, she wouldn’t produce any venom, kill her too swiftly and she won’t produce any venom, cut off her stinger or fangs and there won’t be any way to milk her venom. The only way to truly kill her was a strike to the head.
“Alright, the Spider Queen only has 15 hit points left so we gotta make this quick guys.” Dustin said.
“I hear you Torg, but if we don’t get a clear shot. She’ll die before we can get any venom for me to make an anti-venom for the others.” Mike said.
“Sudar, it may have to fall to you. Your sword is the only thing that can do enough damage to her.” Said Dustin.
“Alright, but I don’t have that many hit points left. I managed to barely escape the bite from one of her crazy children but it is costing me my sight. Slowly losing it by the second.” Lucas said.
“We’ll be your eyes if we have to.” Said Dustin. Lucas turned to Eddie and I and I said as the Spider Queen.
“A knight dares to challenge me? I’ve had orcs put more of a fight than this little fly.”
“Never doubt the Sword of Sudar. Give me the d20 so I can kill this bitch.” I smirked as I tossed him the die which he caught. He took a breath, rolled the die between his palms slowly before encompassing it and began to shake it up. The clicks could be heard from his palms as everyone waited with baited breath for Lucas to finish his roll.
He actually was doing a move that I always did when it came to rolling the dice. I’d always wait for the die to make the decision before releasing it then finally Lucas released it as it rolled and skipped across the board. It rolled and rolled and rolled until it soon landed on the number it needed.
20.
“Crit hit!” Lucas exclaimed. The party cheered as Eddie narrated.
“Wielding his sword in hand, Sudar the Brave saw his reflection through the blade before cursing out at the foul beast before throwing his sword directly into the Spider Queen’s right eye. She let out a hissing scream.” I then let out my best animalistic clicking scream before collapsing dead across Eddie’s lap. “And with a few final clicks and hisses, the Queen had been vanquished. The last of her children fleeing back up into the trees.”
“I then go over and start preparing the anti-venom to help save our party from death’s doorstep or losing our sight.” Mike said as we imagined his Paladin character brewing the anti-venom and giving it to the rest of the party.
“And the party continued out of the Black Forest until they finally reached the light at the end. And that dear travelers is where we shall end out campaign today.” Everyone all clapped as I got up and applauded them. It was then Eddie raised his hands up to cease the applauding as he got serious, “Now it is time for the decision. Henderson, Wheeler and Sinclair. Arise.”
The three freshmen stood up as Eddie and I walked away from the table along with the rest of the party. We upperclassmen huddled up and talked amongst ourselves about the final decision. Eddie and I looked at each other and I nodded to him before he nodded back. Eddie and I walked back towards them while the rest of the guys went over to Eddie’s bag and pulled out three new t-shirts.
Eddie and I stood side by side as we stood before the young freshmen who were waiting anxiously for the final decision. Dustin especially looked fairly worried as I noticed his foot lightly tapping frantically and a bit of sweat from under his cap. Eddie and I stared at them stoically before he grinned and extended his hand as I did too.
“Welcome to Hellfire.” We both said. The boys stood there shock before Mike and Dustin went crazy as they cheered and Dustin immediately went to hug Eddie who stood there shocked for a second.
“Is he allowed to do that?” I heard Jeff as Grant who shrugged. Eddie softly smiled and patted Dustin’s back before shaking hands with Mike as well as Lucas. Dustin soon hugged me as well while I told them.
“Congratulations gentlemen, you three are now official members of the Hellfire club.”
“And as such, you three may now get your honorary Hellfire t-shirts. Gentlemen.” Eddie said snapping his fingers as Gareth, Jeff and Grant handed our newest members their new Hellfire shirts. “Every campaign make sure you wear those. No ifs ands or buts about it. If there is any tear, rip or stains on them, there won’t be any replacements. No exceptions. Understood?”
“Yes sir Eddie. Oh man this is awesome! Haha!” Dustin happily exclaimed.
“Alright, everyone pack up and call your rides if you need them.” Everyone bid us a goodnight but as our newest brothers left, I turned to Eddie and said.
“I’ll be right back to help clean up. I need to talk to one of our newest members for a minute.”
“Don’t be long.” He told me. I gave him a quick kiss to his cheek before racing out to catch up with the kids.
“Oi Sinclair!” I called out. The young man stopped as Dustin and Mike stopped and I heard Mike say.
“Oh shit, well she didn’t need us. Good luck man.”
“Yeah nice knowing yah pal.” Dustin said before the two of them left him in the dust. I walked up to him telling him.
“Relax Lucas you’re not in trouble.”
“Didn’t think I could be from a club I just joined.”
“Seems like you really had fun in there. I’m beginning to see why you are known as Sudar the Bold.” He nervously rubbed the back of his neck. “Listen, when you get your schedule from the coach, bring it to me.”
“Why?”
“I’ll see if I can’t persuade Eddie to arrange some dates around so that you can join in more club meetings.”
“Oh no you don’t have to do that. Really. It’ll be fine.” I raised my brow at him as I crossed my arms over my chest. “Okay how are you doing that?”
“This is just me Lucas. And the more you get to know me, the more you’ll understand that I have a way of reading people.”
“Look to be honest it’s not like I didn’t want to come to this club. I just……I’m just so tired of being picked on all the time. That’s all I’ve ever known my entire life. And I thought that by being with the basketball team, that’d make me—apart of something. And by being on the team and being my friends, maybe that’ll give Dustin and Mike some leniency.”
“You really think that’s how it works Sinclair?” I asked him.
“Well if it doesn’t then I can use my position to make the bullies back off. I just…..you wouldn’t understand.” He said turning away from me.
“Oh you’d be surprised.” He turned back towards me.
“Wha…..”
“That’ll have to be a story for another time. But know this Lucas; popularity is like a drug. It’ll give you a rush, it’ll seep into you and change your life for the better. But like drugs, it can also make you crash and burn. And those that you may think have your back, will leave you in the dust when push comes to shove. High school hierarchy is a food chain, and if they see you fall, there will be those that’ll prey on you when that day comes. That’s why I suggest you don’t try anything to screw up the friendship you have with those two. Because if you lose that, you’ll have no one when that day comes.” I said gesturing to Mike and Dustin who were outside waiting on the curb. “Because what they told us on Day One, you were a good friend, and it hurt that you left them in the dust for the popular crowd.”
“I didn’t know they felt that way.”
“Which is why I suggest you talk to them. Let them know your reason for why you did what you did.” I patted his shoulder before walking back towards the theatre without another word to the freshman basketball player to help Eddie with the cleanup.
After returning back to our lovely hobbit home, Eddie and I were cuddled up in his bed while the TV was playing in the background. I stroked under my right forearm and I said.
“Hey Eddie?” he hummed turning his attention to me. “How would you feel about getting a matching tattoo with me?”
“You serious?” he asked me. I nodded. “Fuck I’d say where and when baby. How long you been thinking this? I’ve only asked you to get some sweet tatties ever since we started dating.” I hummed at the memory. I stroked his wyvern tattoo and said.
“This past summer got me thinking a lot and…..I really wanna have something that’ll help me get by on all that happened. I wanna have a piece of you and I want you to have a piece of me.”
“Whatcha thinking babe? And do you want me to do it? I’ll even do it free of charge for your first time.” I softly laughed.
“As much as I adore your self-made bat tattoo, what I’ve got in mind needs a bit more of an expert’s touch.”
“Okay, that’s fine. You’re the one in charge babe. Now you didn’t answer my last question, whatcha thinking about us getting?” I reached over to grab my sketch book and turned it over to my tattoo idea page and opened it up for him. He looked at it and hummed approvingly. “Alright. Perfect. I like it.”
“But I was thinking you would get this and I’ll take that.”
“Even better. That way I’m always watching over my mama fox when I’m not nearby.” He said pulling me close and buried his face into my neck his hair tickling my face. I scrunched myself up softly giggling as I intertwined my fingers in his. “How did I ever get so lucky to have you Roxxi?”
“I should be asking you that Teddy-bear.” He softly groaned at the nickname.
“I’m really looking forward to getting these tats tomorrow love. You think you’ll get any more?”
“Maybe. Hadn’t really thought ahead on that to be honest. I was trying so hard to figure out what our matching tattoos would be like.”
“Always the artistic mind my beloved Mama fox.” He pecked my cheek softly. He let out a soft yawn before snuggling into my neck and letting out a deep sigh.
“Alrighty you, bedtime. We’ve had a long week.”
“You’re telling me. No skipping or tardies. Never have I been more exhausted.” I rolled my eyes and stroked his forearm.
“No need to be a drama queen. It’s the weekend now.”
“Yep, and along with getting our new tats, I can just spend the whole day holding my girl. Hugging her, kissing her, making love to her.”
“You always have to go dirty don’t you?”
“Can’t help it. You make me go that direction. But I wouldn’t have it any other way.” I turned and we pecked each other’s lips before snuggling in for the night.
