Hear me out. Andromeda asks Regulus if he can pick up Dora from the kindergarten because both she and Ted are busy and Regulus was visiting at the time. Regulus agrees so he can surprise Dora (she didn’t know he was visiting that day). He is her favourite uncle, after all.
He’s waiting outside the kindergarten when she walks out, holding her teacher’s hand, and as soon as she sees Regulus, she runs to him and jumps into his open arms. Smiles and smiles and laughs and “I missed you”s and hugs. She’s clinging to Regulus as if her life depends on it.
And then the teacher walks up to them, still holding her little bag. And before he can even give it to Regulus, or even say hi, Dora says,
“Uncle Reg, this is Mr. James! He’s the coolest teacher EVER.”
And, well, Regulus is feelinging quite confident in that moment so his reply is,
“The most handsome too, I suppose?”
AND JAMES IS LIKE,
“Oh, you’re a charmer.”
AND REGULUS IS LIKE,
“And you blush very easily.”
AND THEN. For some reason (which Andromeda and Ted cannot figure out for the life of them) Regulus starts visiting more and more often, and he offers to pick up Dora from kindergarten even more often.
Until one time where Regulus left his phone in the living room while visiting and it started ringing. Andromeda, like the good cousin that she is, decided to take it to him. However, she wasn’t expecting to see Dora’s kindergarten teacher’s name on the caller ID. And suddenly the pieces all click together.
Scolding ensues.

I need Black sisters centric fics, I don’t want Regulus and Sirius with a side of Black sisters I want Narcissa having to deal with Andromeda being cast out and Bellatrix’s descent into insanity, I want Andromeda having to choose between the man she loves and her family. Honestly I want more Andromeda content in general because this fandom loves LOVES to gloss over her getting disowned because of Sirius. Which is insane to me because Sirius didn’t get disowned until AFTER he ran away (still love Sirius though) while Andromeda got disowned because she married Ted Tonks and then got SHUNNED by her sisters because of it. Bellatrix’s spiral into insanity would be so interesting to read about and there’s so much potential there too.
The Black sisters are so complex and this fandom makes them so one dimensional and or side characters to push Sirius or Regulus’ character development further
Anyways that concludes my Ted(Tonks) talk

“You cow!” Andromeda says, crawling onto her older sister. Bella shrieks, falling onto the floor and wrecking her black curls, tangling her fingers into Andy’s hair and kicking her knees into her stomach. Narcissa rolls her eyes. Eighteen, nineteen, and still both idiots.

I haven't posted about this much here, but: I'm currently sharing my first Dramione multi-chapter fic on AO3.
See You Again is an adopted!Hermione AU wherein, thanks to the efforts of Lucius Malfoy, Hermione learns that she is Andromeda Tonks' daughter. (So yes, Hermione and Draco are cousins, and yes they will get together. Just so you know.) It's going to be a long, intricate, and hopefully delightful journey.
Read for: Tonks being everyone's favourite, Actual Responsible Adults, lots of complicated family feelings, and slow-burn romance with a guaranteed HEA for Dramione.
Updates weekly on Thursdays!
Start from the beginning here,
Or read the latest chapter here.

Written for @remadoramicrofics day 7: 100 word challenge. Read below or on Ao3.
*****
Ten fingers, ten toes. Pink hair, a button nose. Gleaming, bleary eyes.
Andromeda holds her newborn and marvels at the precious life she and her husband created. Ted kisses mother and daughter, beaming.
****
Seven broken bones, three lacerations, a life snuffed out.
Nymphadora’s eyes are unseeing and her body is cooling. Andromeda’s baby, forever her baby, is gone.
The corpse next to her daughter’s has nothing to say for itself, as usual.
*****
Nine Outstandings, two Acceptables, one Troll. Better than his mother.
“Would they be proud?”
Andromeda wishes Teddy would stop asking.
She’s proud, and she’s all he has left.

Vanity
Black sisters, Narcissa Pov
"Did you see the prophet?" Lucius's voice was laced with mirth, something Narcissa learned to be cautious of in their few weeks as husband and wife.
"No, I haven't." She replied. "Good news?" Narcissa picked up a gilded hairbrush she believed belonged to her mother, or perhaps Bella, and settled before the silver and ivory vanity. It had been a wedding gift, received without name or address of the sender. To Lucius, it was a mystery. He suggested it be burned or otherwise destroyed but Narcissa refused.
Such a lovely piece, she said, To be destroyed? I won't have it.
After much wearing down, her new husband reluctantly agreed and the piece was placed in her room. Honestly, Narcissa carried no love for the dark wood or the jewels and precious metal it was set with so decoratively. She only cared for the familiar loop in the handwriting in which it was addressed to her. She cared for the letters and otherwise scraps of parchment and photos she'd discovered tucked behind the drawer.
Photos of a young woman, always with the same, soft smile, with her husband and their daughter, who, for some reason, seemed to look slightly different in each photo.
Narcissa's kin was quick to forget Andromeda, but you know what they say.
The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb.

Day 28 of @remadoramicrofics - Outsider POV
Andromeda Tonks watched as her daughter and son-in-law dressed her grandson for the ceremony. Remus was trying to slip shoes on him, but Teddy was kicking his feet so fiercely that he was only marginally avoiding failure. Nymphadora merely stood by and giggled as father and son wrestled.
Moments like these spurred mixed emotions in Andromeda. Ted would have loved his grandson, and she missed and mourned him every day. Of course, she still had some hesitancy towards Remus. To his credit, for well over a year now he had been the most attentive husband and father she could ask for her daughter or grandson, but she’d never forget the way Nymphadora had practically rotted in her bed during the week he had disappeared. Nymphadora had been quick to forgive, but Andromeda had made Remus earn her forgiveness; she had to be sure he could take care of her daughter.
Remus had gotten the other shoe on and proudly hefted Teddy into his arms. “Are you ready, Andromeda?” he asked as Teddy messed with the collar of his robe.
“Yes. One day, Remus, you won’t be able to get the upper hand on him so easily.”
“Let’s hope he’s dressing himself by then,” Remus chuckled.
“Wait until he starts walking,” her daughter said as she clapped him on the back before she apparated to the school grounds.
Andromeda followed after her. A few moments later, Remus arrived, Teddy in one hand and a child’s shoe clenched in the other. “A short victory,” he said as he raised the shoe to them. They followed the crowd across the grounds to the large memorial that stood on the horizon.
When the memorial had been unveiled, it had drawn a crowd every bit as large as this one. It was a marble structure with four columns wrapped in the house colors. Inside, the one room building was filled with portraits of the fallen; Sirius, Ted, and many others filled frames and told their tales. When they had first come, Nymphadora had drug her and Remus and Teddy to Ted’s frame, proudly showing off his grandson before scurrying off to show Sirius and the rest of Remus’s friends.
Today wasn’t a day for catching up, though, she thought as she took mercy on Remus and wrangled the shoe back onto Teddy’s foot. He thanked her with a bashful smile as Nymphadora stared at the crowd. “She’ll be like raising a second child sometimes, Ted was the same way,” she warned him as she eyed him tentatively.
“Oh, she isn’t that bad,” he chuckled. “I don’t have to put her shoes on, and I suppose that some nights after a full moon I’m rather reminiscent of a child.”
Andromeda had seen the way her daughter doted on him after a full moon and she was inclined to agree, but she had also seen Remus, after his impromptu vacation as Nymphadora called it, take care of her daughter through her pregnancy. The meals he’d make just to have Nymphadora turn her nose up almost on a whim, the sick mornings and cranky evenings, she wasn’t certain she’d heard him say no once in those nine months and his attentiveness had lasted well through the birth. When Nymphadora said jump, Remus asked how high.
Like this; Remus had wanted to skip the ceremony, citing general displeasure that he, a werewolf, would receive an Order of Merlin, First Class. Andromeda had to admit she was surprised, but she supposed, personal misgivings aside, he deserved it as much as any of the other Order members. It had been all through the press; at first, he was the only Order member not to receive one, but Harry had convinced everyone else to refuse theirs unless Remus was recognized. He had insisted they were making a big deal over nothing, but eventually the Wizengamot had relented.
When the invitation for the recognition ceremony had come, he had all but insisted that Nymphadora and she come and receive their awards and that he would stay home with Teddy, but Nymphadora wouldn’t have it. At one point, she had told him it would be unfair of him to miss because it would leave her and her mother five awards – Their respectives ones as well as Ted’s, Sirius’s, and Remus’s – to care for and no amount of Remus’s insistence that Harry would want Sirius’s could convince her otherwise. Finally, he had relented and agreed to come.
Ahead of her, Remus shifted Teddy to his other arm to wrap Harry in a hug. He immediately took the boy from his arms. “You’d better not be planning on keeping him forever,” Andromeda teased. For the first week after the war, she was almost certain that he had come over everyday to see the boy, asking Remus and Tonks several times if they were certain that they wanted him to be Godfather.
“Wouldn’t dream of it,” he said as he bounced the young boy.
“Don’t worry, Mum, Remus won't let him get away with it. Think he used to be jealous he couldn’t feed him.”
Remus rolled his eyes, but his reddening cheeks gave him away. “I wasn’t jealous, Dora, I felt bad that you had to get up every time.”
Harry laughed before turning back to the stage. “Think we should get going?” he asked.
Remus watched the officials taking the stage. “Perhaps.”
Harry handed Teddy back. “I’ll come find you after.”
Remus nodded, but his eyes were still glued to the stage, a look of worry creeping over him. The look he got when he wanted to run. Before Andromeda could say anything, her daughter looped her arm through his and tugged them forward. “Oh no you don’t,” she said.
“Hm?”
“There’s no backing out now.”
“I-I wasn’t –”
“Great,” Nymphadora said as she linked her other arm through Andromeda’s, “then let’s get on with it.” Teddy may carry her husband’s name, but she most often saw him in their daughter and her endless love.

Day 28 of @remadoramicrofics - Outsider PoV
Tumblr media
Ted had offered to come with her. She’d told him not to. Simultaneously, she felt regret and relief at this. Regret in that she desperately desired the comfort he so effortlessly exuded. Relief in that she didn’t trust that her father wouldn’t be firing off Killing Curses if he had. She reflexively brushed her thumb over the ring on her left hand.
Father stood stock still. His hands were thrust deep within his pockets, and Andromeda was sure one was gripping his wand. But he did not move. Every muscle in his body seemed tensed—poised to spring—but he did not move.
He didn't look at her—hadn't since before she'd even finished saying her piece. His eyes were fixed upon the ornate Turkish rug, and if one had walked in at that moment, from his expression one would have thought the carpet had just been heard speaking the most inexcusable profanities.
The clock on the mantel ticked. The only sound. The only evidence that time continued onward. It echoed around Father’s study.
Andromeda kept her chin held high. For better or for worse, she was her father’s daughter, and so, despite the pounding of her heart and the coldness of her fingertips and the subtle trembling of her arms, she kept her chin held high.
“Say something, Papa,” she demanded into the silence.
He did not immediately respond. When he did, it was not with words. Instead, he merely walked to the door of his study, twisted the door knob, and held it open for her.
Still, he did not look at her. Still, he did not speak. Still, he did not need to.
It was not his response that surprised her. She had anticipated it-- her bag was already packed and waiting for her in the foray.
What did surprise her was how much it hurt.
Tumblr media
Nymphadora’s hand rested on Remus’s atop the table as she smiled expectantly down to where Andromeda and Ted sat. Expectantly awaiting congratulations and jubilation.
Ted recovered first. “Well…” He cleared his throat. “Well, that’s just grand, isn’t it, ‘Dromeda?” he said. He could fake it well, but Andromeda knew him. Heaving himself out of his chair, he rounded the table and Nymphadora popped up, releasing Remus’s hand to accept a warm hug from her father. She was positively beaming. “I’m so happy for you, Dora,” Ted said, his voice muffled in their embrace.
“Thanks, Dad.” She laughed as she broke away. “I’m happy for me too.”
Ted smiled and this time it did almost look genuine. Then he turned his attention to Remus. “Welcome to the family, son,” he said, holding out his hand. Remus rose to his feet and a tight smile spread across his lips as he took Ted’s hand and accepted the affectionate clap on the shoulder. Remus didn’t say anything-- he'd let Nymphadora do the talking. It bothered her. Andromeda wasn’t sure what she wanted him to say. Perhaps promises to love and protect her daughter, her only child, the most precious thing in her life… But he was silent.
It wasn’t until all the eyes in the room turned to her that she realised he wasn’t the only one.
Andromeda still sat, straight backed, frozen to her chair. Her gaze flitted from Remus to Ted to Nymphadora to Ted. Her face felt numb. Her mind raced between the words she wanted to say and the words she should say, and she found she didn’t know which was which.
“Mum?” Nymphadora was again looking at her expectantly. But where there had been excitement and joy, now there was worry and doubt.
Andromeda stared at her.
Over Nymphadora’s shoulder, she caught sight of Ted raising his eyebrows at her in a pointed look. Prompting her. Cautioning her.
Andromeda licked her lips and looked back to Nymphadora. And she mustered a weak smile and a nod.
It was enough. Relief flooded Nymphadora’s face, and she knocked over a wine glass in her dash to hug her mother. Andromeda was still seated as her daughter’s arms wrapped around her. Her only child. The most precious thing in her life.
Ted began speaking as Nymphadora broke the embrace, pulling her attention away from Andromeda. “Suppose this calls for a toast!” He crossed to the breakfront to retrieve a bottle of Firewhisky and four tumblers. “So do you have a date in mind?” Ted was asking as he laid out the glasses. Andromeda stared down at her plate and the cold remnants of dinner, keeping her breathing slow and steady.
“Soon. We’ll keep it very simple. In times like these, it doesn’t seem right to do anything big and extravagant. And anyway, neither of us has a big family.”
Andromeda heard the squeak and pop of the cork as Ted unstoppered the bottle but did not look up. Instead, she stared at a bit of carrot and potato still on her plate. She barely listened as they chattered. She didn’t take part. Did not look at them. Did not speak.
But something drew her eyes. Slowly she lifted her gaze from her plate to look across to her future son-in-law. He was looking directly back at her. He did not shy away as their eyes met, merely looked at her as Nymphadora and Ted good-naturedly bickered about the scale of a wedding and how to mark the day.
Andromeda saw the disappointment in Remus’s expression. No. It wasn’t disappointment. It was resignation.
Remus was not surprised by her reaction.
Andromeda was surprised by how much this hurt.

When it comes to the Black Sisters, I wish ppl create a more complex Bellatrix!
Because Narcisa and Andromeda can be such interesting characters, they turn into different paths while they grow up and are going to have conflicts bc of that.
And then there is Bella, the eldest, who is crazy and cruel, and that's it 🤷🏽‍♀️.

putting the fun in dysfunctional - Chapter 1 - chaoscookiescrimes - Harry Potter - J. K. Rowling [Archive of Our Own]
OFFICIAL SUMMARY:
The problem with dismissing and at best barely tolerating squibs and muggleborns is that the wizarding world never realized that every muggleborn has at least one squib ancestor in the last two generations or that these squibs still carry the family magic they are unable to wield. The totems are sought out either during a ritual at age seven or during extensive meditation. Usually, because of the nature of children, they never focus enough on these totems to befriend them and for them to claim them in return.
There are sometimes though when a child has nothing but time to spend. One such time occurs when Harry Potter, the child of a muggleborn and a pureblood, a child who had never lived with them long enough to be taught that he’s a Potter and therefore wasn’t taught to expect a gryphon. When he falls into a healing coma enforced by his own body at age four, he has no expectations, so he doesn’t subconsciously seek any singular totem above any others- the usual reason only one family magic is accepted. He attracts them all and he’s curious enough, lonely enough, to befriend every animal that visits him in his mind, no matter how faint they are or how distant. It changes more than his state of loneliness.
MY SUMMARY:
A cute and fun story using the idea of meeting and accepting family magic via animal totems.
Harry of course is unique in that he is unaware it's what he's doing and his need to be fair lead him to accept them all instead of just 1.
His resulting snake and crow companions get him kicked out of the Dursleys at age 4 but never fear a member of one of the families is told by the family magic and meets him after about an hour.

the art of silent cry is one no one should have to learn but the heirs to the noble and most ancient house of the black have it mastered.
bellatrix, the oldest, has to weep with no sound at her vanity with the news that she’d be marrying a man whom she’s met once before. a man she has no interest in marrying. she regains her stability and stares into the glass, eyes red and snot pooling horridly, she’ll do anything to become the highest praised of her kin.
andromeda, the blood-traitor, sits on the floor of her room packing her things into a small bag, readying herself to leave. it’s the middle of the night and she scares herself with change. she takes what she can fit. a change of clothes, some money, her wand, and some expensive rum. she picks up a small photo, one of her and her sisters from when they were young, naive, and happy. by the time she puts it into the bag, it’s stained with tears. when she leaves no one can hear her or her sobs for what the future holds.
narcissa, the loved, can’t feel anything the night of october 31st, 1981. her sister had returned from the mission, it was done. narcissa was supposed to go. she prepared herself to do so. but a force pushed her back. guilt? love? the past? thus she lays on the hardwood floor of her room. it doesn’t even feel like hers. they’re back, dancing and parading the manor like they won. she wailed. she shaked. the wails were mute, screams of pain through a silent film. her limp body matching her lover’s, tears numb against dull, tired cheeks, and makeup running like she so wished she could; narcissa doubts if they’d hear her even if she had been making noise.
sirius, the mistake, wishes he could be as brave as the sorting hat told him he is. he did everything he could to change. the hat told him gryffindor. he shook his head and crying whispered no. the hat silenced. the floor boards creaked as he walked to the gryffindor table, the only thing quieter than the hat were the students, mouths agape. he sat down and could feel his cousins glares from down and across the hall. people tried to talk to him, they gave up. he examined the pitcher in front of him. in him reflection he saw himself crying. where did they come from? he felt no sadness, just pain. perhaps he did feel sadness, perhaps that sadness was mourning. mourning for himself. finally the tug in his heart alerted him that he in fact was breaking. tears wept and swam across his face like constellations. when the tables were dismissed for bed was when he first looked at the people known as his forever home.
regulus, the prodigy, is lost. he feels stone beneath his feet and hands. it’s dark and cold. he isn’t panicking because of that though. he’s hyperventilating because he can’t breathe. water surrounds him. it’s pitch black. before he knows what he’s doing, he screams. water fills his lungs. good, he thinks, maybe I’ll die being known for something good. death. he’s dying. an unknown feeling consumes him. a cry from distant sources pries itself from his soul. a motionless, silent howl is all that’s left of him.
