when james and regulus got married, they both walked down the aisle. both effie and fleamont walked james.
regulus was standing in the back awkwardly for a moment, and bit his lip, near to crying. he didn't have anyone to walk him.
but sirius showed up, andromeda right behind him, and together they walked regulus down the aisle to meet the love of his life.

One headcanon that's really important to me is that Sirius and Andromeda did not arrive at Hogwarts with ideal views about blood status.
They might have had doubts about what their family had taught them. They might have been more inclined to question things than their siblings. Sirius definitely already had a rebellious streak. But they were raised in a family where only one point of view was presented, and they had little to no contact with anyone who wasn't a prejudiced pure-blood. Even if they were already questioning or rebelling against what their family taught them, they wouldn't have been well-informed about anything else.
I think in order to be friends with James, Sirius must have dropped any obvious prejudice pretty quickly. I also headcanon that he learned some basic things, like not to say "mudblood," from Andromeda. But even so, there were almost certainly moments when he put his foot in his mouth. Same goes for her. Being taught such extreme ideology growing up, there must have been layers upon layers of toxic nonsense to pick apart.
They weren't magically born with enlightened views, and they were raised in the same environment as their siblings. But when exposed to new people and ideas, they were willing to learn. To me, that's more meaningful than if they boarded the Hogwarts Express for the first time already holding the same views they have as adults.

Just something about reading Harry Potter.
For the first time you read it, you go through a whirlpool of emotions, the characters you were rooting for die, the number of events that happen, etc, that just shape you in a way.
However, the next time you read it, you encounter the characters all over again. You understand them all over again.
You understand Snape's resentment to Harry.
You understand that Petunia still loved Lily even though she denied it.
You understand the lengths Snape went through to protect Harry.
You meet Sirius Black. You meet Remus Lupin. You meet Peter Pettigrew. You meet James Potter. You meet the Marauders.
You meet Ron, Hermione, Harry. You meet Draco, Narcissa, Andromeda. You meet Molly, Arthur, Tonks. You meet those who sacrificed themselves, you meet those who've been so changed and altered by the events that took place, they're almost unrecognisable. You meet those who lived to tell their tales.
And you meet the people you hate — Umbridge, Fudge, Pettigrew, Lucius Malfoy, Crabbe, Goyle, Parkinson.
You meet so many people, you form so many relationships — you love some of these people, and you hate some of these people.
The first time you read Harry Potter? The emotions you feel are of hope, of happiness, of a childish innocence.
The second time you read it, however? You are filled with longing, a yearning, a dread for all the lives lost that you cannot save, that you cannot bring back. You've matured now, and you know what will happen next.
You are filled with a sense of home for what would never be.
And the next time you read it, the same emotions conflict you. You feel a sense of love, laughter, happiness, joy, mourning, grief, yearning, loathing... you feel a sense of home, a sense of love, a sense of warmth.
Just like Harry did at Hogwarts.

I think I prefer toxicingly loving overprotective black parents to abusive black parents because of where that disappointment for Andromedas “betrayal” was rooted in, rather than fearing her parents she believed what they said was good and worthy. And it wasn’t until she started feeling something for Ted did she question everything that she had been taught but she knew her family wouldn’t hurt her. They thought highly of her and had high expectations, but in her parents eyes she could almost do no wrong. And then she did the one thing that was so wrong they never gave her an ounce of love again. Of course her sisters felt betrayed, why would their middle sister run away? Why would she leave such a perfect home? There wasn’t anything bad to begin with. It’s why bellatrix is so obsessive with her love and wanting to receive the same praise constantly, not because she was never given it. Actually the opposite, that’s the only way she knows she’s appreciated. It’s why draco is so spoiled by Narcissa. Though this time she genuinely loves and adores her son, she’s still learning how to do it in a more healthy manner… unlike that of her mothers. Even Andromeda has habits that haven’t completely disappeared. She’s overprotective of Tonks and a little overbearing, But she can’t help but keep it up after having a mother who acted like that

My usual watercolor style.
Narcissa is tired
Andromeda has a ring on her finger. How did that get there?
Bellatrix is the only one enjoying this portrait session.

Introducing ✨Friday Fic Recs✨
The Ladies of HP fest/server is happy to announce weekly fic recs from now until next year's fest. Every Friday, we will highlight 5-10 female-centric fics! This week, the recs come from your mods, @celestemagnoliathewriter, @artemisia-black, and @merlins-sequined-hotpants.
Going forward, we would love to receive recs in the ask box or in the rec channel on our Discord server. Almost any fic that is female-centric is welcome (exception: fics that feature explicit underage sexual content). We look forward to sharing more recs with you!
Fic Recs for Friday the 13th of October, including part of the summary from the author:
We've Grown Up (but still haven't changed) by @thecasualauthor18. Leading ladies: Black sisters, Andromeda POV. T, 2.2k words. Summary: Andromeda Black Tonks receives a letter from Narcissa, and against her better judgement goes to meet her.
Parvati by @sleepstxtic. Leading lady: Parvati Patil. G, 634 words. Summary: “Like you and appa?” you ask, propping yourself up on the kitchen counter and crossing your legs in anticipation. Your mother’s stories are always the best.
In the Service of Others by @bellmel. Leading lady: Molly Weasley. G, 4.7k words. Molly is not one to sit idle. It isn’t in her nature. She likes being busy, and as the last of her children leave for Hogwarts, Molly never even entertains the idea of staying at home with no company but her own. She needs a job.
Ariadne by @ashesandhackles. Leading lady: Cho Chang. G, 1.1k words. Summary: Exploring Cho's feelings for Harry in wake of her grief for Cedric's death, with symbolism from myth of Ariadne, Theseus and the Minotaur. A surrealistic character study.
Kiss Each Other Clean by @ronsgirlfriday-blog. Leading lady: Hermione Granger. T, 4.3k words. Summary: The war is over and all Hermione wants is to wash it all off of her.
Standing Up by @isidar-mithrim. Leading lady: Minerva McGonagall. G, 4.9k words. Summary: Minerva is powerless in front of Carrows’ tortures, painfully aware there’s only one way to protect her students: don’t protect them. It will be her own students to prove her that hope isn’t lost yet.
stolen glances, stolen cauldrons by @lanaturnergetup. Leading lady: Madam Rosmerta. M, 3k words. Summary: As with most bad experiences in her life, Madam Rosmerta would find that her affair with Mundungus ‘Dung’ Fletcher started out with too much to drink.
Power by @alohaemora. Leading lady: Angelina Johnson. G, 1.9k words. Summary: "Our hair is power, Angie, it's our history. It tells the world who we are."
If you've got recs for us, drop by the ask box or the rec channel on our Discord server!

Any headcanons about andromeda black?
Yes indeed I do, anon! I've got a few HC lists about Andromeda with her relation to others: Andromeda and Teddy, Andromeda and Ted, and Andromeda and her sisters.
As for HCs specifically on Andromeda, here we go:
Andromeda has curly brown-black hair that gets lighter in the summer and darker in the winter.
Her mother's family, the Rosiers, were French, and her grandmaman taught her French. Grandmaman Rosier also gave Andromeda her first pet, a black and white half-kneazle.
Andromeda's Patronus is a fox, but she didn't learn to cast it until she was much older. Remus taught her when he & Tonks lived with her during the second war.
She's very artistic and enjoys the finer things. It was hard for her to learn how to live more simply with Ted, but she found joy in the simpler things later on.
She got an interest in fashion early in life. It's how she got so good at household charms and spells, by innately understanding the way fabric and other domestic skills worked.
Her best subject at Hogwarts was Charms, followed by History of Magic.
Even though she thought Professor Binns was boring, she was dedicated to her own family history and wizarding history.
Despite her last name and the reputation it carried, Andromeda was never a cause for concern for her professors, though it took some adjusting in her first year for them to learn she wasn't like Bellatrix.
Andromeda was made prefect, but not Head Girl. Only Narcissa got to be Head Girl. Bellatrix was made prefect as well, but was too rebellious to be Head Girl.
One of her dreams was to make her own family tapestry, if she ever reconciled with her family. It would include Ted's side too.
Andromeda's an excellent seamstress. Right out of Hogwarts she worked for Twilfitt and Tatting's (the fancy pureblood robe shop in Diagon Alley). She was only allowed to work because she convinced her father it would be good to make connections.
After she eloped with Ted, she continued to work there, but only part time and on an anonymous basis. The shop owners really liked her and were willing to see past her elopement because she was so many customers' favorite designer/seamstress.
Andromeda genuinely loved her family. They weren't perfect but they were her family. She never lost hope that they'd become reconciled, but it never happened.
She did have some polite discourse with Narcissa much later, after the second war was over. Andromeda was willing to offer a new olive branch to her sister when she heard what Narcissa did to save Harry's life.
Andromeda had a strong, if sometimes strained relationship with her daughter. She was fiercely protective of Nymphadora and dismayed when Tonks wanted to have a dangerous career.
She was also slightly irritated that Tonks wasn't the type of girl who wanted to wear dresses and other traditionally feminine things, but instead preferred ripped jeans, Muggle clothes, and getting dirty in the mud.
That's all I've got for now!

Taylor Swift lyrics for the Marauders Era characters
James
The tricky thing is yesterday, we were just children, playing soldiers, just pretending, dreaming dreams with happy endings
It turned into something bigger, somewhere in the haze, got a sense I'd been betrayed
Lily
So you were never a saint, and I've loved in shades of wrong, we learn to live with the pain, mosaic broken hearts, but this love is brave and wild
The whole school is rolling fake dice, you play stupid games, you win stupid prizes
Your little hand's wrapped around my finger, and it's so quiet in the world tonight
Sirius
I've been meaning to tell you, I think your house is haunted, your dad is always mad, and that must be why
I rewind the tape, but all it does is pause on the very moment all was lost, sending signals to be double-crossed
Sometimes giving up is the strong thing, sometimes to run is the brave thing, sometimes walking out is the one thing that will find you the right thing
Remus
You drew stars around my scars, but now I'm bleeding
You knew the hero died, so what's the movie for? You knew it still hurts underneath my scars from when they pulled me apart
I've been having a hard time adjusting, had the shiniest wheels, now they're rusting
Peter
We were jet-set, Bonnie and Clyde, until I switched to the other side, it's no surprise I turned you in, 'cause us traitors never win
Narcissa
I want you to know, I'm a mirrorball, I could change everything about me to fit in
And I feel my castles crumbling down, and I watch all my bridges burn to the ground, and you don't want to know me, I will just let you down, you don't want to know me now
Andromeda
Holding my breath, slowly, I said, you don't need to save me, but would you run away with me?
I like shiny things, but I'd marry you with paper rings
And I can still see it all in my mind, all of you, all of me, intertwined, I once believed love would be black and white, but it's golden
Bellatrix
They say I did something bad, then why's it feel so good?
The rumors are terrible and cruel, but honey, most of them are true
Regulus
When I was drowning, that's when I could finally breathe
And now that I'm grown, I'm scared of ghosts, memories feel like weapons, and now that I know, I wish you'd left me wondering
I drew curtains closed, drank my poison all alone
Snape
I don't trust nobody, and nobody trusts me
All these people think love's for show, but I would die for you in secret
You're on your own, kid, you always have been

POV:
You're rereading the entire Harry Potter series, and you get to the part where your favourite character is introduced but you know they're going to die like, 2 or 3 books later, resulting in a sense of dread that you can never do anything to change their fate.

If Andromeda had run away on her own, pregnant with Nymphadora...
She was 19 with a baby on the way On the EastSide of the city, she was working every day She was clinging to the feeling that her luck was gonna change She was waiting on the day that she hoped her baby would arrive
She'd never be alone Have someone to hold And when nights were cold, she'd say
The world's not perfect but it's not that bad If we got each other and that's all we have I will be your mother and I'll hold your hand You should know I'll be there for you
