there are so so many techniques and methods that people have come up with to make manifesting easier and more entertaining. so, let’s talk about the most important points when practicing those techniques!

YOU are indeed manifesting things into your reality, with or without a technique. remember. you are manifesting at all times, you are occupying all sorts of states throughout the day, making your current state of consciousness manifest. are you scripting for each state which you NATURALLY shift to? no matter what technique you do, its only purpose is to help you create experiences you would like to have mentally. that’s where all manifestations take place first — in the MIND. not because you have written it down on paper.

all techniques are equal.

when i say "equal", i'm not saying that each technique is the same in terms of what you're doing and how you're doing it. no, all techniques are equal because they all FUNCTION equally and guarantee the same results. no technique works better than the other. no technique is either superior, or inferior.

... force it · for example, the scenes you could visualise when trying to fulfill yourself or let yourself experience a scenario you desire should come to you naturally. the affirmation you would like to use should feel natural to you. a technique is always something you choose to do voluntarily. it isn’t a rule you need to follow. you're not obligated to do this exact technique for this long and that many days, and so on.

... perfect it · when you do a technique, it’s not your goal to do it as perfect and as accurate as possible. you don’t have to visualise a picture perfect scene, nor will you fail to manifest if you miss to affirm the rest of your affirmations-list. you can forget details when scripting, be as detailed or vague in your visual scenes, or only affirm one single affirmation — that’s perfectly fine! your perfect scene in imagination or your affirmations aren’t what makes it perfect in the physical world, it’s the FEELING you get from it. if you can perfectly FULFILL yourself, then it will be perfectly reflected back to you in its physical form. inner acceptance is what creates fulfillment, not the perfection of a technique.

... complicate it · a technique cannot put you into a spiral and make you question your whole reality just because you think you haven’t done it "correctly". there is no right way to do a technique and no fixed way to practice it. do whatever you like and however you like it!

... follow others · now, you can definitely try a technique that seems interesting to you, that has been introduced to you by others or that you think will be enjoyable. nevertheless, a technique that feels normal and natural to others doesn’t have to feel normal and natural to you. don’t commit to doing something because you think or you've been told that this is the technique you need to do in order to manifest your desire.

This post will be an introduction to scripting - you can also use scripting for manifesting but this post will mainly talk about scripting from a reality shifting point of view. I will start off with some general calcifications for the people who are new to reality shifting itself.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈𝐬 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐒𝐡𝐢𝐟𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠?

“Simply put, reality shifting is the movement of your consciousness from one reality to another (...). Think of yourself not as one physical body but as one conscious being that expands over all realities. When you shift, you tune into that consciousness in another reality.” - @astra-nomy

𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐨𝐧 𝐀𝐛𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬

DR (desired reality) - The reality you want to shift to. You can have as many DRs as you want.

DR self (desired reality self) - This refers to yourself in your desired reality.

CR (current reality) or OR (original reality) - It’s the reality you’re shifting from to your DRs and back. Basically, the reality you're living in right now.

WR (waiting room) - This is a reality you can make up and use as something like a lobby where you can go to before shifting to your DRs. You don’t need a waiting room but many use it to spend some time there when they want to 'escape' their CR for a bit but also don’t want to go to their DRs.

In the following paragraphs I will explain what scripting is and how to do it. I will also try to give you some ideas for scripting and answer some common questions.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈𝐬 𝐒𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠?

If you want to shift realities you can write a script to define what you would like to experience in your DR - how you should look like, how you want things to play out or how you want the reality to look like etc. Whatever you script will happen in your DR.

𝐃𝐨 𝐈 𝐍𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐀 𝐒𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐭?

No, not really. Scripting is completely optional and you don’t need a script to shift. As shifting mainly operates on the bases of your subconsciousness, you don’t need to script everything because your subconsciousness already knows what you want - because it's you. It's just that scripting helps most of us with visualizing certain things, organizing our thoughts and committing to our idea of what exactly we want to experience. Reading your script before attempting to shift can also make the process of shifting easier for you.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐃𝐨 𝐈 𝐍𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐓𝐨 𝐊𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐈𝐧 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐈 𝐖𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐓𝐨 𝐒𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐭?

Actually, you don’t need to keep anything in mind while scripting. There are no rules on how to do it and there are many different ways to script. Just find a way of scripting that you enjoy.

The format doesn’t matter. You can find yourself a cute notebook and use it for scripting or you can make a digital script.

You don’t need to care about your way of phrasing things. You don’t need to write from a specific perspective. You can write it as if you're creating a character or you can write it from your point of view. Also, you don’t need to write full sentences. You can just write ‘brown hair’ instead of ‘I have brown hair’ or you can just use an emoji that shows someone with brown hair - it really doesn't matter how you do it as long as YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU MEAN.

It is not always about writing, you can also use pictures to express what you mean. For example you can make a moodboard or create a file on your phone with pictures representing what you want. Or you can even make a presentation or a short video.

You don’t need to script every detail! The length of your script doesn’t matter! You could just write ‘I have brown hair.’ as the only thing to script and anything else in your DR would still include all the other things you want. I often see people who get anxious when they try to shift because they feel like they haven’t scripted enough - that is totally unreasonable! As I said before, your subconsciousness already knows what you want and making a script is not even necessary to begin with. So please be careful with getting obsessed with making your script ‘perfect’. If you can’t decide on something just leave it open instead of being unhappy with what you scripted- your subconsciousness will fill in all the gaps. Just make it enjoyable for yourself!

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐂𝐚𝐧 𝐈 𝐈𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐝𝐞 𝐈𝐧 𝐌𝐲 𝐒𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐭?

You can include anything you want! But I will give you some ideas on what to include but just know that they are not necessary.

ꜱʜɪꜰᴛɪɴɢ ᴀꜰꜰɪʀᴍᴀᴛɪᴏɴꜱ:

Here you can write down just normal shifting affirmations. You can also script how you shift like with a certain method or with a certain action like tapping your wrist free times and saying the name of your DR whatever.

ʏᴏᴜʀ ᴅʀ:

You can define how your DR looks like, what the living circumstances are, you can make up new stuff in your DR (especially if you're shifting to a series/movie). You can script that racism or homophobia and stuff like that doesn't exist there or just that everyone is being treated right. If your DR is based on a movie/series you can script that certain events don’t happen and you can make up new events/situationships. You can script certain scenarios you want to happen. Also, some people write down their first shifting moment - when and where they shift to and how they want it to play out. I also saw some people writing down stuff like ‘No one finds my behavior weird the first time a shift’ etc.

ꜱᴀꜰᴇ ᴡᴏʀᴅꜱ/ᴀᴄᴛɪᴏɴꜱ:

A safe word in shifting is a word or action or phrase you can say when you quickly want to go back to your CR or WR! It works instantly and it can be anything you want - many use something weird that you wouldn’t say normally in your daily life but something you can easily remember (something like ‘Hakuna matata’ or ‘Back to the ghetto’ lmao). If you want, you can also script that your safe words will only work when you want it to and/or you can script that you always remember your safe words.

ᴛɪᴍᴇ ʀᴀᴛɪᴏ/ᴛɪᴍᴇ ᴇQᴜɪᴠᴀʟᴇɴᴄᴇ:

Here you define how much time passes in one reality (CR/DR) when you’re in another reality. For example, you could just script that ‘1 Week in your DR equals 30 minutes in your CR’ or that ‘1 year in your DR equals 1 hour in your CR’. Also, you can script that no time passes in your CR when you're in one of your DRs. And the same goes the other way around (how much time passes in your DRs when you’re in your CR). There are some rumors going around that a huge time difference would strain your body once you come back to your CR but that doesn’t necessarily have to be the case. You could script that everytime you shift back to your CR you’re well rested and healthy - or something like that.

ʏᴏᴜʀ ᴅʀ ꜱᴇʟꜰ:

You can list personal details (name, age, birth date etc.). You can describe how you look like, what your personality is like, what kind of powers or skills you have, what kind of background you have, your life circumstances, your housing, your family etc.

ɪᴍᴍᴜɴɪᴛʏ/ꜱᴀꜰᴇᴛʏ ᴀꜰꜰɪʀᴍᴀᴛɪᴏɴ:

Really useful is also to script a certain immunity. I know that many people want to shift to certain realities that are a bit dangerous and where you have to fight and stuff so you could script something like ‘I am immune to being attacked/hurt. I am always safe and protected. I am immortal. I am immune poison or dr*gs.’ etc. I would also advise you maybe to script that you are immune to bringing trauma from your DRs to your CR and back or that your mental health stays unaffected. Also, you could think about what you would like to happen in the case of you dying in one of your DRs. I, for example, have scripted that I always wake up in my waiting room once I die in one of my DRs. It’s pretty much up to you what safety affirmation you use and it I guess it also depends on where you're shifting to.

ᴄʜᴀʀᴀᴄᴛᴇʀꜱ ᴀɴᴅ ʀᴇʟᴀᴛɪᴏɴꜱʜɪᴘꜱ:

You can make up new characters in your DR or include people from your CR (like your best friend). You can script their appearance, personality, abilities, your connections with etc. The same goes for characters that are already in your DR, you can change them completely or you can script how you are connected to them, what kind of relationship you have with them or how you get to meet them etc.

ᴍᴇᴍᴏʀɪᴇꜱ:

It could also be interesting for you to think about how you deal with your memories. I saw someone writing down that they forget their CR memories for a certain period of time to really experience life in their DR and then get their memories back at a certain time (for example after they went through the main plot). You can also script that when you’re in your DR that your CR is a distant memory but you’re aware that you need to return to your CR. Regarding your life in your CR: You could script that the memories of your DRs are stored in a library in your Waiting Room or you can script that your DR memories are just like fainted memories (like that of dreams) in your CR - so that it doesn’t affect you too much in your daily CR life. If you have romantic/close relationships with people in your DR, I would recommend to script that you don’t feel these feelings as intense or not at all when you're in your CR (so that you don’t struggle with missing them or get ‘homesick’ in your CR). Another tip from me is that if you have a waiting room, try to shift to your WR first. There you can process the experiences of your DR and try to rest for some time and mentally prepare yourself for your CR life before shifting back to your CR - because many often struggle in their daily CR life after shifting back especially if they stayed in their DR for a long period of time - and you can avoid that if you give yourself enough time in (for example) a waiting room.

ᴏᴛʜᴇʀ:

As there is no limit to what you can script you can also include magical items (magical watch/bag etc) for your DR or stuff like ‘I don’t get my period in my DR.’ to make your life more easier there.

Sigil Magic

Symbols are the language of our subconscious mind. They have great magical power and are used in many rituals. A sigil is a coded image of our desire, embedded in the subconscious. By creating a sigil, we give our desire a certain structure, charge it with power — and start the fulfillment process.

Seance of Magic:

There are literally dozens of traditional ways to practice sigil magic now, and anyone can easily come up with another dozen symbols. Come to think of it — absolutely each one of them will work!

The main thing is to follow four simple rules in the process of this fun magic:

✶ First, you know exactly what you want.

✶ Second, you assert your will to get it, focusing as hard as you can on the result you want.

✶ Third, you create a magical seal that will do just that.

✶ And last (but not least!) is you must keep silent about what you have desired.

Enchanting:

✶ First of all, you should define your wish. It should be very clear and be contained in a single brief sentence. You must present it so vividly, as if it were not a wish, but a specific intention.

✶ Next, you should create a sigil. It can be a monogram or a mantra that you create on your own.

To create a monogram, write down the wish, remove all the repeating letters and make any figure out of those remaining: the letters can be inscribed into one another, placed on top of each other, or add pictures to them. Remember that this is your magical seal and you are free to do whatever you want while creating it.

✶ A mantra is created in the same way, only the remaining letters are transformed into a meaningless phrase or word that you chant throughout the day.

✶ Once your sigil has been ready, it must be charged. This can be achieved through meditation (detachment from the wish) or visualization (maximum focus on the wish).

✶ The process starts! After performing the ritual, it is necessary to pull away from your desire, to forget about it for a while. In order to do so, the most common practice is to use laughter — get distracted with a joke or watch a comedy.

Useful Tips:

✶ If you wish for something lasting and as a rule intangible, such as self-confidence or health, it is better to put the sigil in a place that you can easily observe. Where your wish comes into your life once (a new car, job promotion), after visualization you should hide the sigil and try to forget about the wish for a long time.

✶ You can practice making sigils and supplementing or transforming them as you specify your wish.

✶ You can also include your loved ones in this practice and share the symbols you have created without revealing their meaning. Since you receive a useless symbol this way, forgetting about it (thereby kick starting its implementation program) will be easier.

✶ To improve the result, we recommend adding the symbol of the respective planet to your sigils:

Sun ☉ — success and fulfillment of wishes.

Moon ☽ — enhanced intuition, emotions.

Mercury ☿ — communication, knowledge, advertising.

Venus ♀ — harmony, beauty, love, material possessions.

Mars ♂ — leadership, initiative, physical strength.

Jupiter ♃ — good luck, growth, education, faith.

Saturn ♄ — protection, support, rewards or karmic work.

Uranus ♅ — freedom, innovation.

Neptune ♆ — creativity.

Pluto ♇— important changes, transformation.

TDP autistic-coded characters: Runaan

Inspired by this post, which gave me the kick I needed to create my own for Runaan. I’ve always kinda pictured Runaan as “Zuko but instead of befriending Aang he grew up and married Ethari.”

I’m not going to go into how precious this headcanon is to me. You have headcanons that are near and dear to your heart. This one is near and dear to mine. Let’s go:

Physical traits

Sensory dampening

Autistic people often have sensory issues that result in them feeling overwhelmed, overloaded, or hypersensitive. It can result from a combination of mental and physical input, and autistic people develop a variety of coping mechanisms to deal with it.

One way to dampen an overload of physical sensation is with clothing. Loose and baggy works for some, tight and gently constricting works for others. It can turn overwhelming nerve input into a kind of white noise background so it’s easier to focus on other information.

Runaan wears a lot of clothes on missions, leaving only his face and upper arms exposed. I’m not talking about layers so much as skin coverage. While there’s a variety of coverage among the assassins, Runaan is the only one with long hair covering his neck, long pants, high boots, and gloves.

Though Rayla’s dressed very similarly to him, her hands are bare, giving her a more approachable and vulnerable look, as befitting a character trying to find out who she is.

With all his layers of insulation, Runaan appears as if he’s trying to separate himself from, or protect himself from, the world around him.

About those gloves and leather gauntlets. It seemed a little odd (read: foreshadowingly important) that those gauntlets would get a mention in Callum’s Spellbook as part of Runaan’s look, but they’re in there. Runaan’s gloves are black, a nice dark undistracting color. When he moves his hands around in front of him, he won’t be visually distracted by the light hue of his own gloves. And he does use his hands a lot, as a major form of his communication with others, so keeping that contact to a comfortable level, both visually and tactilely, lets him touch and move as much as he needs to without overwhelming himself in the process.

Meditation

Meditation is another way to calm an overload of input, or to psych oneself up for something that will require a lot of focus.The first time we meet Runaan, he’s meditating while the others set up camp.

Rayla’s been gone a while and he’s probably worried. It’s her first mission, and he vouched for her skills, so he can’t just go traipsing off to find her. He has to wait and trust her, so he spends his time calming and focusing.

We also see him meditating in the dungeon, several times.

Even though the room was dark and quiet, all that sensory input from his injuries must’ve been intensely stressful. Falling back on his meditative coping mechanism was the only tool he had to handle the stress and pain of his environment and situation. But all his years of using this technique means that he’s pretty good at it. Every time Viren came in to pester him, Runaan was always able to keep his wits about him.

Stimming

Autistic people stim as a self-soothing technique when they’re hit with intense emotions--good and bad alike. They’re basically a way to anchor during a storm of feels until it passes, by doing something familiar and repetitive.

Runaan’s stim is clenching his hands. His hands are very clenchy when he’s stressed. With those dark gloves on, it’s not terribly noticeable, but they’re opening and shutting constantly when he’s worried over Rayla and how she’s endangering herself/messing up his mission.

Runaan is an elf of action. His skill set is entirely physical. When Rayla acts insubordinate on the mission, he knows he should punish her--a harsh physical tactic--but he quietly refuses to do so. Instead, he talks to her. And though he keeps his voice calm for the most part, he’s upset, nervous, off book. It takes him a while to be able to make eye contact with her (more on that later). And his hands start twitching, possibly because he’d be far more comfortable with a physical fix to the situation, a tactic he’s far more familiar with but in this case he’s deliberately choosing not to employ.

Long hair

Devon Giehl confirmed way back when that Ethari braids Runaan’s hair for him (awww), and he’s really good at it. It’s possible that Runaan had a very different hairstyle, or not much of a style at all, before he fell for Ethari. Autistic people sometimes struggle with haircuts or complicated personal hygiene routines. Some very much enjoy the asmr of having their hair brushed, or the comforting weight of long hair. A warrior needs to see what he’s doing in battle. A Moonshadow needs to look stylish. Enter Ethari, who probably still cannot believe he gets to play with all this long glorious braidable hair every day.

Maybe this beautiful hairstyle that we all love and adore and draw over and over in our art is Ethari’s creation, tactically designed to bother Runaan as little as possible. It’s not hanging in his eyes or tickling his neck or bugging his ears. He has a clear line of sight in all directions. No dangling fringe, unlike almost every other Moonshadow we’ve seen.

Those hair cuffs Ethari made keep Runaan’s side tails out of his way when he’s spinning in battle, too. There’s basically nothing that will get Runaan’s hair in his face.

And he hasn’t cut it in a very long time.

Interaction Issues

Processing time

Runaan comes across as a stoic and calculating character. He uses silence and stillness on the regular. These techniques can be used deliberately to give an autistic person time to process new information. Autistic people can have processing issues, hearing issues, and comprehension issues, and our first instinct upon hearing new information can be to blurt, “What?” because we don’t collect all the details on the first pass. Letting the mind continue to process for a few extra seconds can help to fill in the gaps, though. Remember this iconic moment?

Runaan takes 17 seconds to make his way from “Give me the egg” to “Don’t do this.” He stands dramatically, the clouds part, it’s all very epic. But he could’ve acted the second that Rayla defied him. He didn’t. Looks like he genuinely needs a minute to process what Rayla is doing and how to handle it. It’s very unlike her. He wasn’t expecting it. He has no plan for this. He has to stop everything and think. So he holds still and keeps his reactions under wraps, until he has formulated a plan. Runaan lives by plans and rules. More on that later, too.

The Kiss

Autistic people can be sensitive to being approached and touched. And martial arts training does wild things to your personal space. You have none and all at the same time. It’s vastly more comfortable to keep everyone at arm’s length because there are so many options to choose from if they get close enough to touch.

An autistic person and their loving spouse can easily create little rituals--social and verbal cues--to be recognizable indicators of desired behavior. Ethari’s line, “My heart goes out with this one,” acts as a code that Runaan has heard over and over. Ethari’s worried, and he’s seeking comfort. So he prompts Runaan and patiently waits for Runaan to respond and initiate the kiss in his own time. And Runaan does so, with the smoothness of long practice. He reaches out, he steps forward, and then he also steps back, breaking the kiss.

Ethari chases the kiss as long as he can, but he does let it go when it’s clear Runaan is backing up. It’s clear that Ethari is an enthusiastic lover, and Runaan knows it. Though the kiss is complete, Runaan takes time to reassure his husband that he loves and trusts him, and he does that by ensuring a long moment of close eye contact and physical touch--both things that can take extra focus for an autistic person to offer. But for Ethari, it’s definitely worth doing.

Eye contact

Eye contact can be stressful for autistic people, and we often avoid it when we’re already uncomfortable. When Runaan takes Rayla into the woods to tell her she’s off the mission for being too soft, he can’t look her in the eye for the first part of their conversation.

He keeps looking in her general direction from the corner of his eye, but he can’t look her in the eye and tell her she failed him. It’s too uncomfortable for him. He has to work up to it for a couple of minutes. And though he does manage to meet her eyes for a short while, he ends the conversation by walking away while he’s still talking. As far as his plans extend at that moment, he’s never going to see her again. He believes he’s marching off to die, and he can’t look at her then, either. .

This look is Runaan’s emotional lockdown. Everything is tense and no feels are getting in or out. Hands totally fisted up.

Time Out

Autistic people can get so overwhelmed that we lose our temper, go nonverbal, or otherwise shut down, and we need to step away from the environment that’s caused the overload. Runaan lost his cool and yelled at Rayla when he learned that she’d lied to him about Marcos.

Losing his temper wasn’t good because he yelled at his daughter. But it was also bad because he lost his professional cool in front of his team. He had a little domestic right there in front of them. When you’re supposed to be in charge, especially in a culture that prides itself on cooperation and perfection, falling apart in public has got to be humiliating.

The next time we see Runaan, he’s taking a break in a tree with his second while the other assassins chill, clearly waiting on him. He might have been here five minutes. He might have been here for an hour or more.

My favorite part about this is how Runaan isn’t alone. His friend has come to sit with him, but silently. He doesn’t ask any questions, he doesn’t try to touch Runaan, he just waits. And eventually, Runaan gets his focus back and talks about the mission.

This moment is also an instance where Runaan needs time to silently calculate until he creates a whole new plan out of nothing. In this case, he’s deciding to set Rayla off the mission for being too childish to complete it properly, rather than executing her or otherwise punishing her as a full-fledged assassin. But first, he needs the time out, because he can’t make that plan until he’s emotionally calm again.

“Enough Brooding, Elf.”

When Viren dumped the coins out and Runaan saw that they were cursed objects that somehow contained his dearest friends, Lain and Tiadrin, he was so overwhelmed, shocked, and upset that he had his only eyeshake of the whole series, and he ended up going nonverbal.

Everything that Runaan had done with regard to Rayla over the last several months turned out to be for nothing. She didn’t need to avenge her parents’ honor because they never ran away. Runaan didn’t need to fight with his husband and go into emotional lockdown. And he, his husband, and Rayla never needed to ghost Lain and Tiadrin in the first place. All that stress and emotional suffering was for nothing. And on top of that, the man who’d taken him prisoner had cursed his friends and imprisoned them this whole time. Runaan just can’t catch a single break. His voice drops into a stressed whisper as he says, “You’re a monster.” And then, judging by the next words Viren says a whole scene later, Runaan doesn’t speak again.

Viren leaves him alone after the coin threat backfires, because he realizes he’s not going to get anything out of Runaan in his condition (and he could recognize this state because Soren is autistic-coded as well!). When Viren returns, he calls what Runaan was doing “brooding.”

Brooding is generally defined as being two things: quiet, and thoughtful. No one broods out loud. But a nonverbal shutdown while chained to a wall is going to look pretty similar. Runaan can’t do anything to physically escape Viren, so his brain just switches off his mouth for a while. He has a lot of bad things to process and he has no room for responding to Viren in his state of extreme emotional distress.

Courtship Rules and Replies

From interviews with Devon and Iain, we’ve learned that Runaan fell in love first, but that he also needed Lain’s prompting to confess his true feelings to Ethari. One way to describe the difference between autistic and allistic people’s thinking patterns is to call one oft them Microsoft and the other Apple. They can generally do the same things, but the ways they get there are always a little different. Because allistic people outnumber autistic people, they have generally framed the society we live in, and we often feel like we must rote-memorize the rules of the world around us instead of using our own system. This does create a strong reliance on rules, and specifically on knowing the rules before proceeding.

If Runaan had never courted anyone before--or if he’d tried to and it had gone poorly because Runaan didn’t fully understand the rules--he would be very, very hesitant to make the first move with Ethari.

Additionally, Runaan was making all his good-faith efforts to show interest in Ethari via the proper channels, but meanwhile, Ethari was skirting the rules. He was interested in Runaan, but he’s a playful elf and was teasing his suitor by pretending not to be interested That Way. This might sound cute, but to an autistic person, such a lack of hoped-for feedback would be intensely exasperating. Runaan was trying to communicate in what possibly felt like a foreign language, and he didn’t feel like he was doing a good job of it. He was probably doubting his metaphorical grammar and accent constantly. Autistic people aren’t always good with reading facial expressions or unfamiliar moods, so he didn’t pick up that Ethari was genuinely interested and just teasing him. He was too uncertain and vulnerable to take the matter to Ethari straight out, but there was an elf he trusted fully: Lain.

Lain could probably see Ethari’s interest when Runaan couldn’t. (And if I had to guess, I’d say Lain’s clue was Ethari’s intense eye contact, which Runaan wouldn’t notice if he was avoiding eye contact due to anxiety!) If Runaan was really so uptight and protective about his feelings, Lain wouldn’t have encouraged him to share them unless he was confident that Ethari would reciprocate. And because Runaan did trust Lain so much, he took that next step, confessed his feelings, and sure enough, Lain was right! Ethari loved him, too.

Free Time

Runaan’s birthday post for 2020 told us that he would prefer to spend the day reading alone, but he considers Rayla’s wishes and lets her decide otherwise. Runaan is more introverted than most and he’s perfectly fine entertaining himself, but Rayla drags him to the adoraburr meadow to spend time together, and because he loves her, Runaan lets her do it. If he were truly uncomfortable, he could put a stop to the whole thing. But he understands that this is how Rayla shows love, and so he lets her show her love through shared companionship, instead of shutting her out and keeping to himself.

Special Interest Sharing

Runaan tells Rayla that there’s an instinct to being an assassin. He has it, and he’s realizing now--only now--that Rayla doesn’t.

Callum’s Spellbook tells us that he began training Rayla to fight when she was just a toddler.

Autistic people often have special interests that appeal far above everything else, and can last a lifetime. For some it’s coding, photography, marathon running, or collecting something. Could be anything, really. Runaan’s special interest is combat. He’s a deeply physical elf who feels very present in his world, and sometimes too present (hence the gloves and the meditation). It’s only natural that he takes the body he’s got and trains it as hard as he can. Being ready for battle is a form of freedom for him. He can run anywhere and fight anything. His intense dedication to his training contributed to his promotions through whatever ranks assassins have, allowing him to contribute meaningfully to his community and his society through his service. Runaan’s special interest has made him uniquely qualified to lead the assassins.

When we meet someone we like, we tend to use our special interest as a form of communication and bonding with them: “I like you, so I will share this thing I love with you.”

Lain and Tiadrin had a precious baby girl, and Runaan and Ethari helped them raise and care for her. And the moment Rayla could move around, Runaan was right there, showing her all his favorite little tricks and techniques, steadying her, patiently demonstrating and explaining every little thing. Stances, physics, trajectory, angle of attack, center of balance, weak spots. All the physical things he knows and loves, he shared with his tiny new friend.

Having a full-grown adult pay her the respect of assuming she could learn all these things, even as a little child, must’ve been so important to Rayla and her self-image. No wonder they bonded so tightly. He truly believed she could do everything he taught her--and he was right.

Mental Effects

Hyperfocus

Autistic people can experience hyperfocus on a new and interesting person or thing. The more ways a person, like say, Ethari, appeals to someone like Runaan, the stronger his focus will be on them. All free time--and time that isn’t free--will immediately be diverted to thinking about and experiencing this delightful new phenomenon.

Runaan is described as putting his duty first, and he takes his job very seriously. But this is also the elf who deliberately damaged his weapons in order to have an excuse to see Ethari and ask him to fix them. To Runaan, the one thing he and Ethari had in common was weapons, so that’s where he started. Runaan gave himself a crash course in Ethari and his interests and ways of expressing himself, and found a way to speak the same language in order to ensure they’d connect. He literally hampered his own ability to do his job in order to find a way to connect with the craftsman.

Once they were a couple, he threw himself into learning How To Boyfriend so he could continue to communicate his feelings to Ethari in an understandable way. It was of the utmost importance to Runaan that he be able to speak a language Ethari could understand, so that he could tell him how much he loved him, and so that Ethari would believe it and trust it.

Small Talk

Runaan learned Ethari as a language, and he learned Rayla’s language as she learned his. He probably speaks Lain and Tiadrin fluently. But everyone has slightly different tics and cues in their speech, and they can all seem like separate languages sometimes. It takes true effort to connect with someone, to truly get to know them and all their little quirks. Runaan simply doesn’t have time to learn every single elf in the Silvergrove as a separate language. He’s learned how to connect with those he values most, and that’s all he feels he needs. Everything else is just small talk--a jumble of things Runaan doesn’t have room to care about beyond his special interest, his duty, and the few elves he’s taken such pains to learn so well.

Not everyone has a natural headspace and not everyone is capable of having one

We didn't have one until we were in therapy around 21-22, and I would call it more... Manufactured than anything

When we were presented with the OSDD diagnosis and told we would be heading into further testing, our therapist started on round table exercises with us

It's an old technique that involves someone meditating and inviting alters to an imagined round table to sit with you and talk. You start trying to picture them and learn more about them.

For a very long time, we could only do this before bed, or in the shower-- really relaxed, quiet states. We could still "hear" each other, but it was more intrusions of emotions and images. Eventually our table got more chairs, got a little bigger, walls appeared, and then doors, a couch...

Over a decade later and accessing the visualization of a "mind space" is a lot easier, but it's really... More used as a tool than a home?? Like, we recognize that it's different from the severe MaDD in our childhood, and we recognize that it's not actually a place, it's just a really good... Visualization tool.

A surge of anger from an alter? They just flipped the table

Cofronting/halfing, someone is sitting on the couch with me

Alters fighting? They're banging on the table

Littles are nervous? They're under the table, peeking out

Mod Robo here! My experience is very similar to Dude's. I didn't have a headspace until my therapist helped me make one. We didn't do the round table method although I know that's a pretty common one. My therapist did this guided meditation where I created a comforting place to talk with my alters. I think I was maybe 19??? I don't remember lol,,

I relate so much to Dude only accessing the headspace before bed or in the shower. It was totes the same for us. It took so much concentration to imagine the headspace and everything, it was too frustrating. It was easier to just talk to each other without any sort of imagery. Especially since some of our alters didn't even have an appearance so they'd be saying stuff like "Why do I have to come up with a fake body image in order for us to talk. Just respond to me instead????"

My system always joked about this because we actually have a very vivid imagination and can picture things clearly in our head. But when it comes to a headspace or alters? Nope. It just does not work out for us for some reason.

This is Mod Signal! My experience is very different from both Mod Robo's and Mod Dude's, as our inner world was fairly developed before it was (re)discovered at around 24 or so. The more our current host focused inwards to try and communicate once they realized we were a system, the more of our inner world everyone was able to acknowledge and interact with.

Not that therapy didn’t help lol. A lot. With accessing and improving headspace, building communication, and looking into why some particularly far away alters seemed to be accessing an entirely different inner world than the rest of us (subsystems are wild to try and navigate).

Ok so first things first, there’s really only one way to start drawing: grab a pencil, get some paper, and just go. Ik, it’s very anticlimactic, but the only way to really get started with it is to just start. It doesn’t have to be a masterpiece, it doesn’t have to be some big illustration, just start somewhere. You don’t need expensive or fancy supplies, just a pencil and paper are great (or even just ur finger and ur phone if u wanna do digital!!)

Just remember: everyone starts somewhere!! Don’t beat urself up if it doesn’t look how you want it to the first go around. Art is just like any other hobby: you get better the more you practice, the more you get into the groove of it and the more you learn the fundamentals and building blocks of it. You don’t have to draw everyday, but drawing consistently does help.

Now let’s say u got ur paper & pencil, but nothing comes to mind. Here’s a few simple exercises that I personally enjoy as warmups and simple doodles to fill my sketchbooks:

𒊹︎ Shapes !!

- This is one of my favorite warmups bc of how simple it is. Draw spheres, cones, cubes, etc!! (Bonus points if you add a light source and do some shading as well <3)

- this can be rlly good for studying perspective using very simple objects and adding a light source can make it feel a bit more fleshed out. Plus, it’s always good to study how light affects 3d objects so it can be applied to full illustrations and the like later down the line !!

- to add onto that, learning how to draw basic 3d shapes can be very beneficial when moving onto more complex designs and figures, as it can make the area/object appear less flat and more fleshed out if that makes sense !!

Examples :

𒊹︎ Look at the world around you !!

- find different objects, buildings, etc, and take a picture of them.

- next, using that photo as a reference, try breaking it down into simpler 3d shapes

- Think of these shapes as the building blocks of the figure. They create a general silhouette and portrays the figure in its most simple form. Being able to break down complicated visuals into simpler shapes will make it easier to draw them from scratch !!

Examples :

𒊹︎ Find reference photos online !!

- Personally, I like sites like Pinterest or Instagram for this, but pls note that these aren’t ur only options !!

- some other sites include: Line of action and QuickPoses !!

- reference photos can be very good for studies, but you don’t rlly learn much if ur just copying off of it. While there isn’t anything wrong with that, I suggest trying to break it down. Try to understand the form in a 3d space. Like I said before, doing that will make it easier to draw from scratch and may even help when trying to draw it from a different angle

- reference photos can also be a very good way to get inspiration!! Whether it be for just one drawing, for a storyline, or for a whole production, if ur stuck on a scene it wouldn’t hurt to look at few refs to get a feel for what ur looking for.

Tutorials:

If there’s one thing to remember, just know that you don’t need to follow any tutorials to make art. Hell, u don’t even have to listen to my advice abt art either. There are no rules to art, so take everything I say as suggestion rather than gospel !!

That being said, tutorials are mainly there to help you improve by teaching you various fundamentals and techniques. In other words, to help you make your art look a bit more visually appealing or look like a specific style. There’s not exactly one set list of tutorials that every artist needs to follow, so you kinda just pick and choose depending on what you want to focus on!!

Here’s some tutorials I’ve seen and/or used before :D

𒊹︎ GOOD vs BAD Character Design: Tips & Tricks!

- a classic 🫶🫶, goes over various subjects such as color and shape theory in order to make characters and scenes more memorable. This can be especially useful if u intend to make characters & scenes for animation, but it works for other mediums as well!!

𒊹︎ Basic Color Theory

- pretty self explanatory!! Goes over the basic fundamentals of color theory and how this artist likes to apply it themselves. Color theory can be good to use to ur advantage as it can be used to set the tone of ur art, to show the general time of day, to draw ur attention to specific areas, etc!!

𒊹︎ Anatomy Quick Tips

- this is actually a playlist instead of just one video ^^ each vid is dedicated to different parts of the human body and tips for drawing them!! There are 15 vids total as of today going over stuff like hair, eyes, hands, backs, hips, etc.

"Just as the world will be reborn in fire, I shall be reborn as the supreme ruler of the world. From this moment on, I will be known as the Phoenix Queen!"

Concept sketch for "Phoenix Queen" Ozai.

In my previous sketch of female Ozai, her crown as Fire Lord is inspired by Chinese fengguan. Since this crown is already intricate, her crown as "Phoenix Queen" needs to be even more elaborate. To embody her vanity, madness, and megalomania, I took inspiration from apsara crowns. By appropriating the costume of an apsara, she visually declares herself an all-powerful goddess of fire. I felt this was fitting, as in ATLA Ozai appropriates Buddha imagery to create a cult of personality that carries into the comics.

The crown that sketched here is not entirely accurate to an apsara crown. Here it is depicted as an enormous, continuous crown, fused together with gold. There are a couple of reasons I decided to do this, but the main reason is because of a scene which occurs in the TV series finale. Before Ozai fights Aang, there is an impressive shot where he is shown standing on an air balloon. In the genderbent AU, I picture female Ozai standing in the same position, wearing this massive crown. From a distance, it should appear like she is wearing a massive flaming bird on her head, or a mass of comets. This was easier to achieve by making her crown a single, fused unit. Additionally, I picture her tearing off her crown in a single smooth moth, then burning off her cape in the moments before her fight with "Aangi". This is also easier to pull off if her crown is a single, fused unit. While this design is not culturally accurate, I think it is appropriate, as she is exploiting the imagery of benevolent goddesses for evil purposes.

Depending on how you view it, her crown is supposed to look like fire, comets, or a flaming phoenix. So much gold and jewelry is employed that it might look garish. When she is turned to the side, the centerpiece of her crown should resemble the head of a phoenix. When viewed from the front, it should resemble a comet, or the Fire Nation symbol that Iroh draws in the sand.

By taking inspiration from Southeast Asian cultures, I hope it helps divorce her from association with Wu Zetian. I don't think it would be appropriate to only have the villains inspired by Southeast Asian cultures, which is one of the reasons why I also took inspiration from Southeast Asian cultures when designing "Zuka""s comics outfit. These decisions are meant to pay homage to the rich heritage of Southeast Asian cultures, rather than associating them with villainy.

An earlier iteration of this design was more inspired by the naga crowns worn by depictions of Queen Soma, where the naga heads were replaced by phoenix tailfeathers. I decided against this, as Queen Soma was a real person and it felt disrespectful to her legacy.

To differentiate her from an adult Azula, I've drawn female Ozai with a more square facial structure, and red eye makeup.

Undead Unluck ch.195 thoughts

[You Are What You Eat]

(Contents: worldbuilding - backstory/Master Rules, character analysis - Sun/Beast, thematic analysis - happiness)

Y'know, it's odd, this is my first week in like a year and a half where UU is the only review I need to write for Jump, so I figured it would be a lot easier for me to motivate myself to do it

And yet, this has been one of the hardest to get myself to start

I wonder if it's because I'm sad about the loss of Cipher Academy and Martial Master Asumi? Or do I just feel like I don't have much to say on this chapter? It's hard to say, but I've found that when I'm feeling down on the idea of doing something I know I enjoy, simply getting started on it usually helps reignite the enthusiasm, so here goes nothing!

The big thing about this chapter is definitely the worldbuilding. I think we all suspected that the Creation Story of UU started with man and expanded out from there (we once saw Victor standing alone in an empty wasteland at what was presumably the beginning of time), but the visual of countless souls simply floating around a molten rock paints such a striking picture of this world's origin

My favorite part of that visual though has to be the Sun and Moon looming in the sky, a grim reminder that both of them are above humanity in the pecking order. Even with the Moon standing between the Earth and Sun, shielding the Earth from the blinding and burning light of the Sun, the idea that the Moon is "protecting humanity" is of cold comfort when you consider that we still don't understand Luna's motivations, and she seems to be just as if not more sadistically invested in the struggles of the humanity

I think it's worth noting too that Beast never says "Sun" added the Rules; he says "God" added the Rules out of boredom and curiosity. For all we know, the worldbuilding itself was a collaborative effort between Sun and Luna, and it was only much later that the two of them decided that the only way to truly kill their boredom was to compete with each other. This is supported by Beast's statement that he was added to the game because God tired of seeing man vs. man and wanted to see a new enemy type (which, interestingly, apparently was done repeatedly since new Beast sub-Rules had to be added in over time like Tyrannosaurus, Shark, and of course, Crab), suggesting that the conflict between Negator and UMA came later

There's also an interesting little contradiction in Beast's story: God added the Rules to torment humans and "find what they desired; the greatest life of them all." Why does God care about that? If the Rules are meant to instill suffering and nothing more, what interest does God have in knowing what it means to live well? Is this a Darkseid "Anti-Life Equation" deal where God wants to know what makes humans happiest so he can take it away and maximize despair? Or is it a Komaeda situation and God believes that happiness is found through suffering, and is setting up the ultimate despair in hopes that it will allow the ultimate hope to shine brighter? I could really see it going either way, but I kind of hope it's the latter cus I think that it'd be more interesting if even the UMAs have the wrong idea about God's ultimate goals

Actually, if it is the latter, that would imply that Ruin has the right of it, wouldn't it? "I'm sure there's meaning in the suffering brought on by the Master Rules." While it currently seems like Ruin is delusional and justifying the cruelty of God, it's possible that he's the only one who actually understands what God wants: to create the ideal and happiest form of life on Earth. That might even be the core of the conflict between Sun and Luna, that they both want what they think is best for man, they just fundamentally disagree on what that is. If I had to guess, it's similar to One Piece in that the dichotomy is between Order and Freedom, where one believes that rigid adherence provides happiness through security while the other believes that choice at the risk of regret is more satisfying. The City Mouse and the Country Mouse, for my Chainsaw Man fans

Despite how close we seem to be getting to the story's climax, it's still too early to draw any conclusions on that front, but Tozuka definitely seems to be sprinkling those themes throughout the story. While they may be overwritten later with more context, it's never too early to interpret the themes as they're presented

On a more immediate note, I love the implication that Beast was added as the Seventh Master Rule and ended up getting demoted to Ninth later. This really speaks to the prevalence of Time (identity pending) and Language to the human experience; man eventually conquered Beast as the apex predator, there are no animals that man cannot kill, and in fact it's widely accepted that we are the objectively bigger threat to them, but the Language barrier? That's a direct impediment to human communication and solidarity, so while it may not be as damaging as Justice, it's undeniable that it's a bigger threat to us as a species than any animal could be. And of course, Time has always been a major enemy to the human experience; no matter what diseases you overcome, what animals you conquer and eat, what languages you learn, your time will come. You can delay it, but the longer you do, the harder it becomes to do so; your bones will weaken, your mind will slow, and even your very genes will fray and fail you one day. Time isn't the real killer, so War and Death are obviously worse, but just because it isn't as bad doesn't mean it isn't cruel, and much more so than Beasts. Beast's desire to reclaim "the Era of Beasts" is proof enough that the advancements of man have cost him his former rank

Beast also said that the Rules are not designed to benefit man, but that's either his own shortsightedness, merely a taunt to obscure the truth, or a testament to the strength of man. Beasts are food, clothes, and even companions. Language is an obstacle, but also a tool and an art. Time is an inevitability, but one that carries with it the benefit of experience even at the expense of longevity. We don't know much about the top 6, but at least these "weaker" Master Rules carry a very clear set of benefits along with their impediments. If God truly didn't intend for these benefits, then man is that much more impressive for bending the Rules to fit their needs, and if he did in secret, then that reinforces my earlier point that the suffering is merely meant to push man to greater heights

Maybe I shouldn't be putting this much effort into analyzing these points now since they're likely to either come up or be disproven later, but half the fun is following the breadcrumbs that Tozuka leaves for us over time. Much like Ruin's faith in God, I have faith that Tozuka's words are meaningful to the final message of the story, so ignoring them as they come just because they don't show the full picture is like missing the trees for the forest

What I am going to wait on though is talking about Top's decision to pit Unbreakable vs. Unbreakable, as that's going to be developed and possibly resolved in the next chapter. While I'm sure I could come up with a lot to say now, I get the distinct feeling that this is a tree that's better served being given time to grow

Phew! I had a lot more to talk about than I thought, and I was right, I feel a lot better now. Hopefully the suffering of losing CA and MMA was just an obstacle I needed to overcome to reaffirm the happiness I feel from reading UU, and that going forward I'll be able to continue to use that as motivation to keep bringing you all fun analyses like this!

Fahrenheit 451's dismissal of the importance of other artforms

something is pissing me off about farenheit 451 and i'm sure it's been said before because this is quite a book but ill say it anyway. im only on page 54 so i have yet to judge if this is a good book or not, but i like it so far. it's a beautiful love story to books and writing and the written word, and it's about how important it is to share stories. i am a storyteller, i tell stories in many ways, but i am first and foremost an illustrator, with a love of cartoons and animation. i consider every method of storytelling an artform; and intellectual, important ones at that: oral histories, pop songs, stand up comedy shows, cartoons, a kid's oc, books. and i believe that at the end of the world, humans need art, and not just one form of it. every art form is as important as the next. so what pisses me off is that it seems like Ray Bradbury does not consider anything but books to be an effectively important artform. He makes a bold claim, describing cartoons and pictures as a lazy method of storytelling.

More cartoons in books. More pictures. The mind drinks less and less. Impatience. (p. 54)

As someone going into the animation industry, i took great offense to this. What i believe is truly meant here is that the people who consume cartoons are lazy, and that i can agree with (after all, it is much easier to watch the Loony Tunes than read Shakespeare), but in the same vein he is calling the people who made the cartoons lazy as well; that the people who make cartoons and the people who enjoy them are dumber and lazier than those who create and enjoy books. i understand the importance of the written word, and i certainly believe people don't read enough, but he clearly values books higher than visual art forms. he makes this defense against classical artists, so we know that he does not deem visual art unimportant:

And at the museums, have you ever been? All abstract. That's all there is now. My uncle says it was different once. A long time back sometimes pictures said things or even showed people. (p.28)

but then this itself shows a bias toward classical art, and he does not view abstract, or modern, art as real art. i think this, in part, is because he is a product of his time. tv and cartoons are new and strange, the funny pages in a newspaper are just for kids, and comic books are for delinquents. i understand his feelings on modern abstract art, but it is art and it is just as important as Michelangelo; and these are both as important as Faulkner.

he shows a hatred for other mediums, like music, and television, and film. and i know, i know, it's about how things are made more simple so that people can consume quickly and without thought, but to imply that music and cartoons and film requires no thought is an insult to those complex and beautiful art forms. think about the love and care that is needed to create them. is it not comparable to your own when you write a novel? but now i must come down off my high horse, and tell you that i think all artists share this bias for their own art form, and i can't blame Bradbury. you can only have one favorite, and his is books. i just think that all artists should be able to recognize each other as equals.

Recently, I had a bit of a problem with maths , no absolutely not. I'm not panicking Because it wasn't like this in the past. And I think maybe it's because of the way I study... to be honest I don't have a specific way to study math, it makes me think that maybe all my problems are because of this... To be fair now that I'm thinking about the past years I never had a great interest in mathematics ( well I never loved it the way I love biology or chemistry and the related subjects) Aaannddd also it might be because of my teachers. In all these years of my education, the most intorolable teachers were my math teacher-_-

Mathematics is a wonderful field of science, though many students are not fond of it.

This may be because of the way it's taught & how rushed the topics get in school.

So I absolutely understand everyone who struggles with it! /g

Let's change the point of view:

✨️Math is a language!✨️

Math uses its own vocabulary, including symbols you don't see anywhere else.

However, it can help if you think of it like learning a language.

Practice reading symbols like they're words—you might read "divided by" when you see a fraction line, for instance, or you might say "square root" whenever you see "√."

My personal tips for studying math:

Repetition: Solving problems over & over is the best way to get those problem-solving-methods of math in your head. Someday you'll see the problem & immediately know how to solve it. Best feeling.

If you solve a problem, WRITE EVERY STEP DOWN. I know it sounds boring, but if you look back at your notes/ work, you'll be able to understand what you did.

Get a notebook for writing down the rules & for creating pages for topics - it truly can help to have summaries for various topics in one place - especially when YOU made them. Creating these summaries also trains you: Did you truly understand what you need to do? Are there still questions? Are there things you didn't understand?

Visualise the problem (if possible): It can help to draw a picture or diagram illustrating the problem. Include any quantities that are listed in the problem. If the quantities aren't named, use a variable like "x" (or you could make up your own, like using "a" if you're solving a problem about apples). It can make understanding easier!

Comprehension is better than memorisation: Learn the meaning behind what you're doing. Don't just try to memorize everything in your textbook. Instead, focus on understanding why you need to do a certain process at a certain time or where a formula comes from. When you can do that, it will be a lot easier to memorize it. If you can't visualize that, it's going to be harder to memorize it.

🌙But the most important thing:🌙

Do not pressure yourself.

Don't panic about not being able to solve a math problem.

It isn't a failure to not understand math.

Mathematics is difficult.

Sometimes, you don't get enough time to understand how certain operators work & that is sad, but it can't be helped (unless the school system changes, that is).

Also, you're probably really good in other subjects, aren't you? Try to embrace them, try to embrace your strengths as much as you can 💜

Side note: If social skills were a subject in school & if I went to school, I'd have straight F's.

Hii im a newly discovered system and I cant see into headspace clearly yet so would you happen to have any advice on how to see headspace?

Hey. We’re also a “newly” discovered system (if you count knowing about our system for around 2 years to be new), and the way our headspace works is really complicated. I feel like it can vary from system to system. Also we’re a DID system, so if you’re not trauma-formed, our headspaces may work totally differently. Still, we’ll talk a bit about how we see our headspace.

First of all, I say “we” but I’m the only one in the system who doesn’t have even partial access to the headspace. I’ve seen it once or twice, when a few members of my system worked hard to describe/show it to me, but I don’t really ever exist there. When I’m not fronting, I tend to be suspended in stasis until I front again. That’s just how our system works. I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to visit the headspace.

Our headspace consists of a few areas. There is one area which has existed for nearly our whole life. It made up of a pair of houses (the ones we grew up in) and we had no hand in creating it or bringing it about. I guess it works as a visualization tool, but we have lots of parts who are stranded or trapped there, reliving trauma memories and unable to access the rest of us. Through treatment we’re working on understanding this area of our headspace and reaching out to the parts who are stuck there.

The rest of our headspace was consciously created by a few members of our system. It exists as a place outside of the homes we were abused in, so that those of us who are able to communicate with each other can have a space to exist inside that isn’t re-traumatizing. Again, I don’t really go there, but I know enough about it from existing in my system for a while haha.

It was made using visualization tools and imagination. It’s a fantasy, made up of things my alters think about. We don’t view our headspace as a physical place, but to my alters, it still feels like a physical place when they’re there. We’ve always had a very active imagination, so it never really took much work or focus for my alters to put up a headspace.

From what I understand, it started by Kiki and Toby just… imagining what a safe space would be like for us. The more times they imagined the same thing, the easier it was to picture it. Eventually, an area would just stick around, even when they weren’t actively thinking about it. At that point, the imagined idea became a part of the headspace.

Some systems just don’t have headspaces. Some systems have always had a headspace. Some systems have to consciously work to make a headspace. Some systems have a vague or partial headspace, and have to do visualizing and imagining to fill it out. Every system is different, so seeing into the headspace may be a very personal thing for your system.

There used to be a blog on Tumblr that posted headspace inspiration. I really don’t know the @ or else I’d tag them. Using Pinterest and searching for inspiration online can be a great way to figure out what you’d like in a headspace. Then it’s just a matter of spending some time focusing on it, imagining it, and fleshing it out inside. I’m sorry we don’t have any resources on helping you achieve this… but we wish you luck nevertheless!

I started writing fan fiction when I was probably about 12 or 13? I literally did not have any reference point to the concept - I just loved TV and creating things and writing was an important hobby. I think I was frustrated with a topic not being given the attention I wanted in the show Ghost Whisperer (I was obsessed) so I just wrote it myself. The only way I knew to connect with fandom was through YouTube, as I’d been making fan montages for a while. I edited my story, chapter by chapter, into videos and posted it there. I didn’t end up finding fandom spaces for writing and community until I was about 18, when I joined tumblr and started reading on livejournal and fanfiction.net. I discovered screenwriting around that time, too, and fell in love with the idea of combining these things to make a career. (Only took me another decade to finally bite the bullet and dive in.) I’ve been writing and telling stories literally my entire life, and have studied the art form profusely throughout my education, but I definitely think I’ve seen the most growth in my work through the act of writing fan fiction - it fuels so much discipline while still giving you the space to experiment.

🔪 ⇢ what's the weirdest topic you researched for a writing project?

I looooove to research. I spend a lot of my time looking up words in other languages and reading articles about child development. For Vofreude I read a lot about the history surrounding the clitoris and its accurate portrayal in diagrams. I think the weirdest thing I dove deep into was how to hotwire a car, for Epithet.

🏜️ ⇢ what's your favourite type of comment to receive on your work?

Anything. I get really overwhelmed by long comments and freak out on how to respond, even though they mean so much. (I worry that people think that means I don’t care about those ones.) I love when people make jokes or compliment in a way that’s silly. Also a huge fan of bookmark notes - I go and read those a lot. I die when someone mentions that they loved something else I wrote for a different fandom and that they’re happy to find me again in a new fandom - that feels pretty life changing. In real life, anytime I can create something that makes my mom cry is an absolute win in my books - she doesn’t cry often, but I’ve gotten her with a few specific things through the years.

I will say, I find it easier to respond to comments in the first few days after a piece is posted. I adore getting comments later - that email notification is one hell of a dopamine boost - but I get anxious about answering. And then I get anxious about there being a comment I haven’t responded to. And then I get anxious about how much time has passed since the comment was posted and I’m not sure if it’s too late to answer. Vicious game.

🦴 ⇢ is there a piece of media that inspires your writing?

Music. Everything I create always leads back to music. It’s how I yank myself out of blocks, usually. When I listen to music, I start to visualize how things might look or feel and then I try to emulate that in whatever I’m working on. It’s easiest for editing videos, as I picture the scenes that will match up to things. For writing, I just go with the vibes. Most of my stories have an accompanying playlist that I listen to when I’m writing in that universe.
