#✿ theme: step dad touya
willowser · 10 months
Text
but this touya 🥺 he's sitting at the kitchen table too early in the morning, awake because your ex-boyfriend is coming to pick up your daughter for their father's day out. touya is half-asleep in his cheerios, only grunting out a response when your daughter asks him questions, bright and cheery, laughing too loud when she pokes and prods him and he grabs her hands up in his own and tickles her.
when the doorbell rings, she's scooping up her backpack and unzipping it quickly, slapping a folded up piece of paper on the table before running off around the corner. you follow her, exchange some pleasantries with her dad, wish him a happy father's day, give your daughter a hug and tell her you'll see her in a few days.
she stands in the doorway and shouts, loud, the high pitch in her voice echoing off the ceiling. "bye dabi!" and when he says it in return, she ends with, "i love you!"
(you don't miss the twist of your ex-boyfriends lips, his clear disaste for touya souring his expression.)
(you don't miss touya's hesitant pause from the kitchen, his voice scratchy and low when he calls back, "love you, too, kid.")
after she's gone, you mosey on back to the kitchen to see him leaning over whatever she'd left him; a piece of construction paper, colorful and a bit messy and crinkled, but all her nonetheless.
it's a picture of she and touya as little stick figures, him much too tall, hair dark and spiky. in between them, you think, is a drum-set, a call-back to the time he'd brought her to the bar he works at before it opened, during the day, and he'd let her bang around on all the instruments and be as loud as she'd wanted.
happy fathers day i love you is written across the top in bright pink, a little hard to read, but there regardless. touya stares at it quietly, only coming back to life after you run a hand over his back gently.
"mom's gonna lose it when she sees this," he murmurs quietly, shaking his head as if the idea is ridiculous.
but you don't miss his quiet sniff, the way he clears his throat before carefully folding the paper back into place, keeping it held tightly in his fist.

How do you think Touya will be saved? What could, possibly, stop him? What Endeavor or Shouto should say/do? I believe he'll be saved, and I also believe he won't die(not judging looks btw lol). The point is, I want to know your theories of how Touya will be saved since you seem to know a lot of the Todoroki plotline and I may be missing something perhaps!?
I think the key is in this phrase that Tsukauchi says:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So what is Touya's origin?
I think at the core of it, it's his love for his family and his yearning for his father's love.
If you look at the Touya - Shouto foiling, the Todoroki family themes are laid out:
Touya wanting a reason for existing vs Shouto knowing it's up to him to decide the reason
Touya believing that his death changed nothing vs Shouto's belief that people can change from the smallest thing
Touya thinking that the family left him behind vs Shouto's refusal to move on without his family
Touya's desire to be seen vs Shouto's eyes being opened beyond his previous tunnel vision
Touya's "we turned out to be real different" and will always be "parallel tracks" vs Shouto's "he is me" and "we will mingle"
So I think Touya will be saved (I'm talking about the emotional level) by Endeavor and Shouto addressing these needs.
I feel like Endeavor could start with an apology and telling Touya that he was always loved.
But I think Touya will need proof - that the family changed, that they didn't just forget him.
And I think Shouto could help him reconnect with his original wants. There must be a reason why it was only Shouto who heard the Dabi origin story, and not Endeavor. Shouto knows that Touya wanted to go home, that he wanted to apologize to his mom and dad, that he's been driven by the same desire to see the family changed that I think everyone in the Todoroki family wants.
Shouto also watched him and sees now that Touya didn't only inherit Endeavor's flaws and obsession, but also his tenacity. So someone putting his quirk in the positive light as something that he can choose to use to "affirm his own reason to exist" would be an important part of the process.
I'm still thinking that there will be an attack on the evacuees, and that we will get a full Todoroki family reunion and that's where Touya will truly find his origin. See his family embrace him and I think in return he will step up to protect the evacuees together with Shouto and Endeavor.
I don't know how he will be saved physically, but I see no reason not to save him together with Toga, Tomura and the rest of the villains.

dfo fic recs <3
said this was gonna be an owl house blog. i lied. whoops.. have some dad for one fic recs. all under the cut!
hero’s shadow - feelingstabby
teen and up, gen, creator chose not to use archive warnings
incomplete, 55/100 chapters, 481,829 words (yes, the author has stated that they are actually aiming for 100 chapters)
summary:
Izuku doesn’t cry. He is a weapon, and weapons don’t weep.
He won’t cry until the battle, when he’s falling through the air, when it settles in just how real it is that he’s going to die, because yeah, the doctor warned him this would happen, but there’s always been a part of Izuku that thought he’d live forever.
Just like his father told him.
Or, how a few heroes help Midoriya Izuku become something more than a lost vigilante.
yes, vigilante izuku with plenty of trauma. and dadzawa and dadmic. and mistakes made on several people’s parts, because they are all human. i love it..sm. as of writing this post, i’m on chapter 39, so over halfway through. however, i have a feeling something is coming up. we’ll see :)
Ill-Gotten Gains - ghostmaybite
mature, gen + m/m, archive warnings do not apply/creator chose not to use archive warnings
incomplete, 36/? chapters,  225,740 words
summary:
When his father and Tomura start planning the USJ attack, Izuku makes a plan of his own. It’s simple, only four steps:
1. Steal Eraserhead’s quirk 2. Use it to kill All for One 3. Give Erasure back, hopefully 4. Go to jail, probably
He’s prepared for the plan to fail at any time, but surprisingly, it’s not until step 4 that things fall through.
FANTASTIC dad for one fic. honestly amazing. i love it. so much. ALSO!! izuku has afo! as in the quirk! or a version of it! it is so...akjsndfhjgjhgnad!! it is FULL of angst! (and the stain arc is coming up...excited.) everyone is becoming a train. now that i’ve said something you won’t understand without context, you’ve gotta read the fic. go on. do it.
the face of the future, the blood in my veins - intheeveningsunrise
mature, gen, creator chose not to use archive warnings
complete, wip sequel/recovery fic. 27 chapters, 218,513 words
summary:
“My name is Midoriya Izuku,” he says in a hushed voice. “I’m from Musutafu. Born and raised here.”
Mikumo blinks at him. “That supposed to mean something?”
“I don’t know!” Izuku throws his palms up in surrender, huffing. “What else am I supposed to say?”
“Look, I don’t have time for this. Just tell me why you stole my face, so I can kill you.”
“Uh… this isn’t your face. This is my face. I was born with it.”
“You are so, so close to getting stabbed.”
or, Izuku runs into his twin at the USJ - and then proceeds to run into him seemingly everywhere he goes.
With every meeting, the two begin to uncover a deep web of lies that has been suffocating them both ever since they were children. All the while, Izuku tries desperately to pull Mikumo out of the grasp of their father - All For One.
ahahHAHA YES I LOVE THIS FIC...still have to finish it. i plan on doing it very soon. maybe even after posting this. we’ll see. it is AMAZING..and also adds mikumo into the mix :) it’s REALLY interesting, but def deals with heavy themes- which is honestly kinda just..in the territory when it comes to dfo fics. but yeah. read the tags, which you should do for every fic you read but yk
A Stranger's Smile, a Traitor's Guile - JoWithTheFlo
mature, gen, graphic depictions of violence
incomplete, 9/? chapters, 35,185 words
summary:
“Do you ever get tired of it?” Touya asked. “Eating shit food out of dumpsters and bathing in public bathrooms?”
“I do,” Izuku answered, honestly. “But I’m free this way.”
“What if you could be free and have a roof over your head too?”
Izuku gave him an amused look. “I can’t. I’m eight years old and, technically, don’t exist. It’s not as if I could get a job to pay rent.”
“I could though,” Touya said, voice oddly strained as he made the offer. “If you wanted. To live like that, instead.” --- Wherein Izuku has All for One, uses it to help whoever he can, and stumbles across a family along the way.
i LOVE THIS FIC. touya/dabi and izuku bonding has always been something i’ve enjoyed and looked for, and this one having dfo and izuku w/ the afo quirk?? checks off SO MANY BOXES. seriously, give it a read. you’ll probably enjoy it.
sitting in my hand is the sand of a shattered hourglass - zel_over_on_the_beach
mature, gen, creator chose not to use archive warnings
oneshot (part of a series, though! there is an incomplete prequel fic), 12,254 words
summary:
I am here! I am here! Izuku keeps waking up on the day villains attack the training camp, and the only way he can think of to end the loop is to keep everyone else safe. Too bad he keeps failing at that.
It's a time loop fic, okay?
TIME LOOP FIC. YEAH. its so...alkdsfjsdfkasbdfksa. read the tags, of course. shit goes down with muscular..quite a few times, really. it’s just. MMMMM SO GOOD. definitely give it a read if you enjoy time loop fics. or even if you don’t, give it a chance. it’s fantastic.
Pull him under - SorrowSeye
teen and up, gen, no archive warnings apply
oneshot, 9,875 words
summary:
All the stress of recent events is enough to turn Izuku's hair white. In fact, it does just that; when his hair loses all color overnight, Izuku ends up looking incredibly similar to someone he would never want ties to.
Nothing can hold you down quite like family.
ONE OF THE FIRST (if not the first) DFO FICS I READ. it is SO GOOD. definitely, DEFINITELY, check it out. all might is there, as is the rest of class 1-a..such a good fic. i’ll be giving it a reread soon, that’s for sure.
Words as Weapons - NearoRiver
teen and up, gen, no archive warnings apply
incomplete, 33/38 chapters, 109,275 words
summary:
When Midoriya Inko dies in childbirth, Midoriya Hisashi—better known as All for One—decides to raise his son Izuku by himself... without ever telling Izuku he’s Japan’s worst supervillain. While navigating his father’s high expectations, insidious emotional abuse, and overpowering quirk, Izuku fights to become a hero.
- - -
Old summary: Midoriya Hisashi is All for One. Midoriya Izuku is going to become a hero.
who would i be if i DIDN’T add this fic?? it is SO GOOD. I LOVE IT. seriously, read it. after reading the tags, of course. the way afo is written in this fic is..so good. utterly terrifying and disgusting but SO GOOD. SO WELL DONE. it’s just. adskjnfajklsdnfkjasdfba. AND THE TRAINIGN CAMP ARC IS COMING UP...like it is starting SOON. i am EXCITED.
-
well, i think that’s it for now. feel free to ask for any mha fic recs (or toh, but tbh most of what i read there is. hunter-centric. and it’s a tad difficult for me to read fics w/o him being a major part..which kinda sucks cus i’m sure there’s many wonderful fics i’m missing out on bc of it.)
if any of the links are wrong or broken or whatever, please let me know so i can fix em (or try to, at least. whether i succeed is another matter entirely.)

My Ao3 review of the year!
It is here once again, the fics of the year, by yours truly, somewhat sorted by theme, date and series:
One shots and drabbles:
My Hero Wikipedia (6k): Starting off strong, the fic I have with the most kudos, hits, and that has been added to the most collections... It's just my friend's Crack idea of what would happen if Deku wrote Wikipedia pages of different pro heroes with weirdly accurate facts.
The chains that bind us to shore (16k): A late bday gift for Dabi. I had sudden DH pirate AU brainrot, so here it is. Ft the LOV as a pirate crew, Dabi as the ex Prince Touya of Aradella, and Hawks as his loyal royal guard. And complete with a pirate Playlist.
The League of Gossip (1k): Basically Dabi comes in carrying a very bruised Hawks to the LOV HQ, which results in the League spying on them.
The caged bird (1k): Yet another vent piece of Hawks. Just some hurt/comfort with a happy ending.
The Todoroki Rei protection squad (formerly known as the League of Villains) (5k): The League kidnaps Rei to mess with Endeavor. Gains the truth about Dabi's identity and a mom instead.
A pyro and a bunny walk into a fight... (3k): Dabi and Miruko's super chaotic friendship, as told from the moment they met as kids until they reunite as adults. Again, super chaotic.
I know my Shinso is a witch (2k): modern witch Shinso, and the adventures of him joining class 1A. Very self indulgent, mainly wrote this bc I am a witch and I saw a Tiktok about witch Shinso so. Look out for the Tarot Callouts and all hail Mooncake.
What do you know, it's MORE The Dragon Verse fics, this time sorted by both Crack and 'Canon' (Aka my AU where Dabi and Hawks have kid, Ryu)
A little bird told me (2k)(Crack): Alternate version to another fic of mine, 'The mysterious case of Hawks' boyfriend' where his sidekicks at his agency find out Hawks has a boyfriend, this time told by them finding out through Hawks' son that 1) He has a son. 2) The dad may or may not be Dabi. Ft a poor Tokoyami who is so tired of questions.
The day Kendo and Mori (almost) won an Oscar. (1k)(Crack): Just a little sorta side-series of the regular day of Ryu and his friends at UA, who definitely try to drive him insane.
Taking a few steps back (2k)(Canon): The story about how Dabi and Hawks reacted to knowing they were going to be parents after they fought on opposite sides of a war, and how Ryu does eventually brings them together.
Ryu Takami's guide to getting a significant other (11k)(Canon): What the title says, Ryu finally gets a Canon SO after like a year of him existing lmao. I love Alex so much BTW, and I'm a sucker for Ryu and Alex's relationship now. (Alternative title: Ryu somehow scores a hot nb latino, his poor heart is not prepared).
White bird, why can't you fly? (multichapter fic, still ongoing)(Technically an AU of my AU): My piece for the Hawks bang! An AU where the HPSC creates Ryu without Dabi and Hawks' knowledge. Hawks finds out once Ryu is a teenager that he exists and he's been trained by the HPSC all this time, so he gets him out. DH learning how to be the parents of an awkward teenager and said teenager learning how does it feel to have a family and not be treated like a soldier. Ft some bomb illustrations by my awesome parter Blanc <3
Yet another DabiHawks series. This time, with 'secret' marriage.
The adventures of one particular married couple. (2k): First part of the series, where Hawks and Dabi are secretly married, but thanks to Dabi getting arrested and him getting a concussion, secrets are spilled. Ft Dabi dramatically flipping off Endeavor while he breaks out of an interrogation cell.
The poor life choices of one particular married couple. (3k): Once again, secrets are spilled. This time by Fuyumi and Miruko. Ft a very angry Miruko because wdym Hawks is married and she wasn't invited to the wedding?
The (almost public) mayhem caused by one particular married couple. (5k): last part of the series where Dabi decides 'fuck it' and shows up in disguise to a Hero Gala in order to surprise Hawks. The public has questions.
Oh my, a Shiggy-centric series??
Single dad Shigaraki? It's more likely than you think. (5k): Shiggy finds a scared little girl with a destructive quirk that reminds him a little too much about himself, so he takes her with him. In Dabi's words 'she's already adopted you, you're a dad now.' bc we need more dad Shiggy in this Fandom. Stan Hanako Shimura for clear skin.
The aftermath of spontaneous adoption (5k): So, Shigaraki is a dad. What now? How do you keep a life of crime while also being a single dad? Shigaraki makes some decisions and we see the aftermath of them. Ft Shoto casually being a menace to poor Izuku's brain and everyone loving Hanako.
At last, something that isn't DabiHawks. Bakudeku time.
Katsuki and Izuku's guide to find your Soulmate when you're dense as fuck. (4k): Something I did last year for a secret Santa in a server I'm in. What if they were pro heroes? And fake dated? But they're actually Soulmates, they just don't know? Jk... Unless 👀
And that's it for this year! Yet another year without finishing my Ryu and Hawks' bday gift fic but oh well.

Come Out From Among Them and Be Separate
Thus saith Horikoshi.
So, why did Deku leave?
Well, actually, let’s backtrack a bit and start with Endeavor’s press conference.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Enji’s words are basically asking just what do you want from me? If he is redeemed, it will never make up for what was lost. Even if he redeems all of it and dies, it wouldn’t change what has been lost. (Side note: that’s pretty clear forshadowing for what the end will be for our villain trios imo, and I’m definitely responding to future villain hating asks with the same question.)
But actually, you can’t make up for it, Endeavor, and you certainly can’t do so by being a hero.
Tumblr media
I mean, it could be that this choice is just being waved away in a sprint for the finish line, but it would contradict earlier set up that Enji would have to choose between being a hero and a dad. It wouldn’t affect the main theme (heroes save) though, but it would certainly weaken aspects of Enji’s character.
At the same time, there’s evidence here in this chapter that the story is not going to let Enji have both. We have Touya saying that Enji’s words had the opposite effect:
Tumblr media
Instead of inspiring the populace, he inspired the same notion in his son, just via a different side of the coin. Just watch, Endeavor. Just watch me as I dig my heels in and destroy heroes while you try to destroy villains.
The other piece that makes me wonder if Enji is really going to be allowed to keep this “everything” he has is this:
Tumblr media
While I often complain about how Deku is pretty much always morally right in the series, I also think that there’s absolutely no reason to think that’s changed here. He’s probably doing the right thing in one sense, while falling prey to his flaw at the same time. So, stepping outside of hero society is a positive thing for Deku; his problem is that he left on his own. Deku always tries to do everything on his own, and as a result his body’s taken quite a beating.
The most likely way to reconcile this is that the answer isn’t going to be Bakugou, Todoroki, and Uraraka dragging Deku back to UA; instead, they will probably join Deku acting outside the bounds of hero society in some way, at some point (might not be until a battle or skirmish). As @lurkerwithcomputer has pointed out before, almost always the major conflicts are solved through kids acting outside of the rules or even the law. There’s little reason to think this would be an exception.
To return to Endeavor, it is also likely indicating that Endeavor will have to do the same thing at some point to save Touya: ditch hero society, ditch Endeavor and become Todoroki Enji. Midoriya inspired Enji to strike back against Gigantomachia during the war arc; as messy as I felt that framing was, I’m pretty sure Midoriya’s actions right now will end up inspiring Enji, along with Shouto and Ochaco, to save the villains via joining him and somehow breaking the rules/laws/going against hero society.

Todoroki Family Ties (Part 8)
Characters: Enji Todoroki, Stepmom!OC!Ivy (Ivy is black btw), Child!Shoto Todoroki, Teen!Touya Todoroki, Preteen!Fuyumi, Child!Natsuo
Warnings: mention of abuse, sexual themes
After the short conversation over the phone, Enji came back inside and explained everything to Ivy after sending the boys to bed. “So, I’m taking Shoto and Touya with me to pick them up from their grandparents’ house. If you don’t mind, I’d like for you to stay here. I want Fuyumi and Natsuo to have a little more warm up time with their brothers before they meet you.” In three days, Enji’s other two children, his second and third born, were to be put back into Enji’s custody. He was filled with excitement and missed them so much but he kept his stoic expression while talking about it.
Two years ago, Enji’s ex-wife, and mother to his four children, Rei, was admitted to a mental hospital for assaulting Shoto. Of course this was kept under wraps from the press but those closest to the family knew what happened while the outside world assumed she was murdered. Ivy herself wasn’t made aware of the situation until recently either. It made the number two hero look bad and gave him a terrible rep. Everyone was scared to look his way and lots of people wanted him fired from the position of hero, but their simple opinions weren’t enough to budge the idea.
Rei’s parents were horrified by the real news and saw how people were reacting to the situation. It influenced them to ask Enji to give up custody to them for the time being until they saw Enji fit to be a father again. He loved them dearly and that’s why he didn’t fight on the decision. Touya and Shoto would need training for their abilities but Fuyumi and Natsuo would be better off with the ice side of the family. On the upside, the boys got to see them when they visited every other weekend.
Enji was allowed to see them too but in a more supervised visitation way before he had to leave. Every time he had to go, the little “Bye, dad.” from Fuyumi as she hugged him tight broke his heart. She’d often shed a few tears about it but Natsuo wasn’t as vocal about how he felt. He’d only give half hugs and keep his head down the whole time. But when that car turned and went in the opposite direction of the house, he never stopped watching it. Even after it was out of view. No matter what feelings he showed, on the inside, he wished he was in the car with him. It’s not that his grandparents were bad in any way, they were great! He just hated the way they talked about him behind his back. When they thought Natsuo wasn’t listening. But he always heard it. And it always made his mouth taste bitter and his head hurt. Sure his dad messed up, but he was still just that. His dad. Soon, lost time would be made up for, and he and Fuyumi were over the moon about it.
Three days passed by quicker than expected. Two more children would enter the four person household Ivy was used to and nervous was an understatement for how she was feeling. Enji had already left with Touya and Shoto and for the time being, Ivy was alone. She spent the entire morning preparing for Natsuo and Fuyumi’s arrival. There were treats set out in the living room and in their own rooms, generous gift baskets filled with more treats and some trinkets she hoped they would enjoy. Even a nicely decorated banner up that read ‘Welcome Home!!’ in big letters.
Now she just anxiously sat on the couch. Waiting. Imagining how they would react to this new woman in their lives. Wondering if they’d even like her. To be honest, if they wanted her to leave, she would. Their family already needed to heal, it’s not fair that this random person just showed up and joined in and they’ve never even met her before. What if they hated her? Oh god. She’d fall apart. “Fuck. Now I’m more anxious than I was at first.” Not that it was a spoken rule, but something about your new step kids seeing you having a panic attack for their first impression that didn’t seem right to Ivy. So a few deep breaths, and she was able to stop one before it started. Until the panic was revived when the door started to open. She scrambled to her feet and picked up a plate of snacks from the table. ‘Here we go.’
“Ivy, we’re home!” Enji opened the door and Shoto and Touya entered first. She wondered if the other kids came until she saw two more small beings behind Enji. First, a beautiful young girl with glasses. Hair white and eyes grey like Rei’s with small bits of red for decoration. She held on to Enji’s hand while he closed the door. Another kid appeared next to her. A boy. A bit taller than her. Though he was younger, he inherited Enji’s height genetics. For a ten year old, he was as big as Touya, maybe even an inch taller than his fifteen year old brother. Then again, apparently Touya took a while to have his growth spurt. The tall boy’s hair was white like Touya and his sister’s, three little stripes of red on each side just above his ears.
Ivy immediately wore a smile as warm as the sun. “Welcome home, guys! I’m Ivy, nice to meet you!” The two just looked at each other and then their dad, who nodded towards her. Their gaze went to her but they still didn’t respond. Ivy just stood there, frozen, too scared to move. Touya took the opportunity to take the cookies out of her hand and head to his room, Shoto gorged on all the other snacks and Enji reprimanded him to not spoil his dinner. “I-I’m sorry,” Ivy got down on her knees, “I guess I’m a little obnoxious. So much for a first impression, huh?” Her head rested in her hands. Maybe she could just turn invisible so they wouldn’t see her blazing embarrassment.
During her internal breakdown, a small hand rested on her shoulder. Ivy looked up, the 2nd oldest standing in front of her and giving her a small smile, her brother not far behind. “Hello. I’m Fuyumi. This is my brother, Natsuo. Or just Natsu for short. Nice to meet you.” After Fuyumi’s introduction, Natsuo stepped forward and smiled down at Ivy. “Hiya, stepmom!” He glanced and pointed at the table where his little brother was enjoying himself. “Is all this for us? For reals?” She nodded, a huge grin on her face. “Heck yeah, dude. I ain’t no evil stepmom. I’m fun and spoil my step-babies.” Shoto stuffed another treat into his face before giving a thumbs up. “It’s true! She’s really nice and sweet. You’re gonna love her. I know I do!” Natsuo took a second and hugged Ivy before running to join his baby brother.
Fuyumi stayed, kneeling in front of Ivy. “So.... you love our dad? Is he nice to you?” Obviously, Fuyumi was smart. There was no need to be dishonest. She knew how her father was, what he did, and know she was asking if he was the same as he used to be. “Well.... he’s had to work on his attitude and how he expresses himself. But he’s definitely gotten a lot better from when we were first together. He wants to be a better man for his family and atone for his actions. He’s really winning my forgiveness everyday.”
Ivy turned to look at Enji who had taken a seat on the couch and was watching the boys indulge. There was a content smile on his face. Seeing their happiness gave him some of his own. It was definitely a nice change from the dejected faces of the past. “Fuyumi,” Ivy continued. “You don’t have to forgive your father if you don’t want to. But if you ever find yourself wanting to, and you have questions, or really questions about anything ever, you can talk to me. I want to be here for you and your brothers as much as I can. I know what it’s like to have a conflicting childhood. I wasn’t surrounded by love like you have been, but that doesn’t lessen the significance of anything you guys have been through compared to my situation. I want us to be a family and I hope I can grow on you in good time.” Fuyumi hesitated before hugging her new stepmother. “I already know you will.” Ivy embraced the hug. The rush of oxytocin was so satisfying.
“Please excuse me.” Fuyumi rose and went to sit next to her father who grinned when she joined them. This was his second chance. He already missed a few years with her and Natsuo and he couldn’t bare to miss anymore. Enji honestly felt like he needed them probably as much as they felt like they needed him. The moment he found out he could get them back he had developed a certain glow. That was the look of a man who got his babies back, and eventually, they’d have to really sit down and talk about why they had to go in the first place. As for now, they just needed to enjoy each other’s company.
At dinner, Ivy got to learn even more about her new family members. Like how Fuyumi wants to be a culinary genius one day. And how one of Natsuo’s favorite moments was when a puppy approached him on the street when he was having a bad day and made him feel so much better. Ivy hung to every word they spoke, it was all just so interesting. It got to the point where every time Natsuo thought of something new to tell, he’d interrupt his sister which Enji had to try and prevent a couple times. Though he was excited that they were already intrigued by Ivy, there was still an order of manners that needed to be abided by.
Even at bedtime, they still had so much to say, but Ivy had to ask them to wait and tell her tomorrow. They groaned but listened to her and went to bed. “They are so amazing, Enji.” Ivy smiled up at the big guy next to her, a sparkle in her eyes. “They seem to really like you. I’m glad tonight was such a success.” He pulled her into his lap and kissed her. “I know. I’m so happy, too. They’re really great kids and I wanna be the best stepmama that I can be for them. So much has happened to those sweet babies and I wanna make sure they smile from now on.” While she was talking, Enji spread little kisses on her cheeks and neck.
Ivy was quietly enjoying it, falling into a trance, but shuffled when she felt his heavy paw dragging up her thigh. “Enji-” “You’re such a great stepmother, Ivy.” He whispered into her ear while nuzzling her neck, gently nipping at the skin. “Have you ever thought about becoming just a regular mother?” She could barely hear him over the blood that started to flow around ears from how hot she was getting. “Yes. Why? Are you offering to make me one?” They worked together to move her legs so that she was straddling his waist. “If you think you’re ready for it....” His hands breached the hem of the shorts she was sleeping in, there was an ease of access since she didn’t usually sleep in underwear. The feeling of his strong digits doing nothing other than simply working her most sensitive areas made her head fall back. “I would love.... to put a baby in you, honey.” In the midst of the sudden heat rising in the room, the sounds of sloppy kisses and horny giggles began to transpire.
“Oh, Enji!~”

Salt, Sugar, Heat
Summary: Shimura Tenko is given an ultimatum by his father: Find work or find another place to live. He applies at a small bakery and winds up finding much more than just a job. (It's an AU, in other words.)
Rating: SFW, but has themes of emotional and physical trauma, abuse, discrimination, and violence.
Relationships: Shimura Tenko/Todoroki Touya eventually, plus friendships galore
Chapter 1: Help Wanted
Death stared people in the face everyday. War, famine, disease, crime, the elements, and just plain shitty luck. Despite the constant, cold presence of mortality looming over them humanity persisted. Tenko knew this. Especially since his dad loved to remind him how good he had it compared to others. Not to mention how much worse his life could be. That didn’t stop Tenko from wishing he was gazing into the skull sockets of the Reaper itself instead of at a brick building across the street.
He reached up to scratch his neck only to be thwarted by the starched white collar of his shirt. The tie that went with it wrapped his throat like a hangman’s noose. What bullshit. Who went to these lengths for a crappy food service job anymore? As if the artist’s gloves covering two of his fingers and half his hands despite the summer heat didn’t make him stand out enough, he had to put on a dork uniform too? He probably looked like a kid playing dress up in his parent’s clothes. Which…well…he was. But his dad had insisted. And whatever Shimura Kotaro wanted, Shimura Kotaro got. First impressions are important, his mom had told him as she’d helped knot the stupid strip of fabric for him. Dad just wants what’s best for you.
Tenko snorted. Dad wanted rent and utilities. Nevermind a son who wasn’t a slacker and embarrassment.
Although wishes for a swift death by hit and run loitered at the back of his mind, Tenko looked both ways before jaywalking from the bus stop to the building’s glass doors. A stylized donut glazed with chocolate and sprinkles floated among two little clouds in the logo. Oboro Donatsu, declared a mix of kanji and katakana beneath. After a deep, shaky breath Tenko yanked one door open and stepped inside. The AC granted his irritable skin instant relief. He scratched at the flaky patches around his eyes.
“Sorry, we’re closing up for the day. Please come by tomorrow.”
Tenko froze, heart stuffed into the back of his throat. Behind the counter and glass cases that curved along one corner of the shop, two people stared at him. When he failed to move or reply, the one on the left scowled. His expression would’ve been intimidating enough even if he wasn’t covered in vivid green scales, had fingers tipped with claws, and showed a glimmer of needle-teeth inside his elongated mouth. Quirk mutant. Freak, hissed a voice from the subconscious pit Tenko’s worst fears usually crawled from. Just like you.
“I said we’re closed,” the man snapped. His long lavender hair bristled. “No more customers.”
Tenko’s paralysis finally broke. “I’m not…but I…” Pulse thundering in his ears, he held the thin leather folder he’d also borrowed from his dad up in front of him like a shield. “Interview,” he managed to gasp.
The scaly face slackened into confusion. “Inter…oh. Oh!” Reddish eyes (freak, just like you) widened. “You’re here about the baking position, aren’t you? Okay, cool.”
Just when Tenko believed he could resume breathing the figure on the right burst into giggles that flipped his flight or fight switch again. Although the boy's fine light brown hair and soft face put him at no older than fifteen maximum, his grin belonged to an inquisitor torturing heretics on the rack.
“Ah, yes. Another sacrifice to the flames.” He even had the whole steepling his fingers thing nailed down.
An ice cube dropped down the back of the kid’s shirt shattered his demeanor.
“What’d I tell you about spouting creepy nonsense to strangers?” his reptilian companion scolded.
It took a minute of squirming and squealing for the boy to make the ice drop to the floor. With his lower lip jutting in a pout he looked even younger. “Only do it to the rude ones.”
“Exactly. Now try not to demolish the store while I take my eyes off you for thirty seconds.” Glancing to Tenko, the man beckoned with a clawed hand. “C’mon. The boss and manager are in the back.”
For a moment, Tenko weighed the merit of staying vs. fleeing from the shop screaming. Once the moment passed he scurried after the man through a set of swinging double doors. He caught impressions of an expansive kitchen on the other side: a long counter with cutting boards and condiment stations, a giant stainless-steel sink, rolling wire racks stacked with plastic crates. The smell of fresh baked bread lingered in the air. Crumbs littered the tile floor, crunching under his red sneakers. At a door in the rear corner of the area, the man stopped. He knocked a few times, waited until he got a muffled response, then stuck his head in.
“Hey, boss? Big Sis? There’s a guy here for the assistant baker job.”
“Splendid. Show him in, Iguchi Shuichi, if you would.”
Turning back to Tenko, the man—Iguichi Shuichi—nodded. “All you from here. Good luck.” With that, he strolled off to resume his post.
Tenko tried to swallow but his throat had closed up. Somehow, he scraped enough willpower together to shuffle to the open door. Peering inside, he felt the blood drain from his face.
One of the tallest…could he really call a nightmare figure of rippling darkness a person? It…he…did have on a suit that would’ve made Tenko’s dad look shabby by comparison. Person-shaped at least.
“Ah, Shimura Tenko, is it?” Gold eyes in what should’ve been a face narrowed and arched. “Thank you for coming to meet with us on such short notice. I’m Kurogiri, the owner of this humble establishment.”
Despite the formal clothing and sonorous voice, the shadow person’s tone radiated warmth and welcome. It thawed Tenko’s limbs enough for him to remember some manners. He bowed.
“Uh, it wasn’t any trouble. Thank you for giving me the opportunity.” Not like he had much else to do that day. Or much choice.
“Please have a seat.”
Only fifty percent sure he’d faint by then, Tenko scuffled inside and plopped into a big leather office chair on one side of a large desk. Another tall figure, flesh and bone this time, sat across from him at a computer. Eyes behind green-tinted sunglasses looked up from the screen. Full, red-painted lips stretched into a smile.
“Oh, my! What beautiful hair you have, honey!”
The gears of Tenko’s mind clicked to a stop. Beautiful? The sickly strands that had turned the same blue-gray as a drowned sailor’s skin when his quirk activated? The tangled mess that stuck out every which way because he never brushed, touched, or even looked at it as much as he could help it? That was beautiful?
Kurogiri huffed a laugh. “This is our general manager, Miss Hikiishi Magne. She handles much of the day-to-day business that keeps us afloat, including payroll. Also a connoisseur of rare tresses, apparently.”
“One owner of fabulous locks recognizes another. With a smirk, she raked a hand through her shoulder-length auburn hair, then scratched at the matching stubble lining her jaw.
Since he doubted he could stand without keeling over, Tenko offered her a bow from his chair. “Pleased to meet you, miss.”
“Oh, just Magne is fine, honey. If we start acting like we work in a stuffy office Kurogiri might expect us to start dressing like him.”
“Ahem.” Shadowy hands smoothed down an already flawless waistcoat. “Shall we proceed?”
Tenko resisted the urge to claw at the tie strangling him. “Um, okay.”
“Tell me, Shimura Tenko. Why did you decide to apply to our little bakery?”
Answers flooded his mind. Because my dad’ll kick my ass onto the street if I don’t get a job or go to university instead of playing video games. Because you’re not one of his business cronies who’ll tattle on me the second I screw up. Because maybe this sort of job won’t be as miserable as customer service sounds. Not that he could say any of those things. Fortunately, a couple bits and pieces of truth made it through his filter of common sense.
“Well, you’re hiring someone for the graveyard shift, right? I’m more active at night. And the posting mentioned I didn’t need experience to apply, so…”
“I see. It’s true we’re willing to train, and I’ll see to teaching you myself in regards to recipes and production. The hours will be from midnight to about seven in the morning—it can vary, depending on what needs to be done. You will, I’m afraid, be required to work weekends. Would such a schedule be acceptable?”
“Um, yeah. I mean, yes, that works.” It wasn’t like he had a social circle or anything.
“Don’t worry, though, honey,” Magne chimed in. “We’ll make sure you get two consecutive days off every week so you can rest up.”
“Indeed. This work can be rather demanding.” Kurogiri loomed forward, golden eyes boring into Tenko. “Are you capable of lifting sacks of ingredients several times a night? Handling a peel? What about working in front of a 250˚ Celsius oven?”
Tenko scratched at his skinny arm through the stiff sleeve of his shirt before catching himself. At no point in life could he have been described as athletic. His strategy for describing physical education periods during school had involved hanging back and being as near to invisible as possible. And while he had no clue what a peel might be it sounded serious. Tenko gnawed his bottom lip until it stung and he tasted blood.
Finally, he decided to stick with the truth. “I don’t know if I can do any of that stuff. But…I’d like to try.”
Kurogiri’s eyes squinched up—his version of a smile, Tenko realized. “What do you think, Miss Magne?”
“I say we give him a shot. If baking doesn’t turn out to be his thing, he can always help Himiko out with donuts and pastries instead.”
“I agree. Well then, Shimura Tenko, it’s settled. When would you be available to start?”
His breath caught. “Wait…you mean you’re actually hiring me?”
Magne fell back in her chair and laughed. “Don’t sound so surprised. I’ll print out some paperwork for you to sign so we can make it official.”
Tenko gripped the leather folder in his lap, keeping his pinkies raised despite the gloves’ protection. “Okay, um. I can start whenever. You need my quirk registration papers, right?” Maybe they’d think twice once they knew what he was. What he could do.
“Miss Magne will make copies for our records and such,” Kurogiri said, waving a hand. “Shall we say you start tomorrow then, at midnight? Feel free to dress in your usual attire. After all, we wouldn’t want this to feel like, ahem, a stuff office.”
And that, by some miracle, was that. Magne brought him some tea while he filled out the appropriate forms. After signing the last he transformed from Tenko, aimless twenty-something into Tenko, gainfully employed adult. He wandered back to the front of the shop in a daze, expecting to wake up at any minute.
“Hey. Shimura, right?”
Tenko paused and blinked at the two people behind the counter. The one called Shuichi regarded him with pursed lips for a moment.
“So. I hear we’re coworkers now.” He coughed lightly, red eyes sliding away. “Cool. Welcome to the team and all that hype. I’m Iguchi Shuichi, in case you didn’t hear. The mini evil overlord here is Kukichi Kaoru. Don’t eat or drink anything he offers you. Trust me.”
The kid—Kaoru—shot Shuichi a glower. When he looked back to Tenko, though, a maniacal grin split his face.
“See you around, fellow wage-slave.”
Not even a veiled threat from a creepy child dampened Tenko’s spirits in that moment. He waved and murmured a goodbye before drifting out the door.
-
Luck stayed by his side all the way home. His mother was the only one to greet him when he returned. She leaned out of the kitchen doorway, wiping her hands on a dish towel.
“How’d it go?” Despite the sparkle and cheer in her tone the little V of worry never disappeared from between her brows.
“They hired me.” His cheeks ached from smiling the entire bus ride already, but he just couldn’t stop. “I start tomorrow.”
His mom strode over and wrapped him in a hug. Tenko closed his eyes, returning the embrace. The faint smell of jasmine soap and the vegetables she’d been cutting for dinner dispelled any lingering phantoms of anxiety. When she pulled away, her smile matched his.
“Your dad will be so proud of you.”
Tenko’s good mood cracked right down the middle. If his mom noticed his expression had shifted into a grimace she didn’t show it.
“Sure,” he said through numb lips.
“I’ll make something special to celebrate. Or maybe we can eat out somewhere.”
“No!” He flinched at the sharpness of his voice. “I mean, no, don’t go through the trouble. I need to sleep through the afternoon now since I’ll be working at night, so I’m going straight to bed. You know, to get myself used to the schedule.” Like he wasn’t already a pro at staying up to play games until dawn.
She reached up and combed his disastrous hair away from his brow with her fingers. He’d inherited its waviness from her. They’d shared the same rich, dark brown—almost black—coloring too before his quirk had manifested, made him kill the family dog, and marked him as a threat to society for the rest of his life.
“I’ll leave your portion in the fridge for when you wake up then. Don’t forget and go for the instant noodles or something, okay?”
He leaned down to kiss her cheek. “Thanks, Mom.”
As soon as he reached the sanctuary of his room, Tenko ripped off the bullshit tie, popped open the collar of his shirt, and scratched with impunity. He considered Decaying the whole outfit, minus his sneakers. Then again, the tie belonged to his dad, who’d no doubt report his only son for unlawful use of a deadly quirk without hesitation. He sighed and threw the clothes into his hamper. Who knew how long he’d last at this bakery job before he had to go looking for something else anyway.
His plan had been to hole up in his room, but by the time he’d changed and showered Tenko found he really was sleepy. He had rushed around all morning. Not to mention run the gauntlet by interacting with more strangers than he had since graduating from school. Besides, he’d have the entire night free to get some gaming in.
After closing the curtains against as much light as possible, Tenko settled into bed and the rhythm of a new life.

Playing the blame game, and other pointless endeavours
A reflection on BNHA Chapter 291
Tumblr media
Before and after: or, How to violently radicalise an abuse victim in five easy steps
I think a lot of the people throwing blame around or trying to declare that one character or another is the One True Villain™ or the One True Victim™ need to stop seeing personal responsibility as a zero sum game, because it really isn't.
Tumblr media
Arguing about whether Dabi and Endevour should each have 50% of the blame or if it's more of a 60/40 or 70/30 split (in either direction) is pointless. Endeavour is 100% responsible for his abuse of his family and general failings as a human being, and Dabi is 100% responsible for the lives he's taken and people he's hurt in retaliation because of it.
Sure these two things are absolutely related in that good ol' cause-and-effect sense, much like how an earthquake at sea will cause a tsunami. And much like them neither happened in a vacuum, the surrounding environmental conditions needed to be just right for a perfect storm of this magnitude to occur. It just so happens that in this case both the earthquake (Endeavour) and the tsunami (Dabi) are not faceless forces of nature, but human beings with superpowers who chose to take action based on their deep-set mental and emotional issues at everyone else's expense, either because they think their needs are more important, they think the price paid is worth being the means to the end or (most likely) a combination of the two.
Please note, I don't say this to excuse or condemn either character, the readers who are taking sides, or even Horikoshi's writing. It's pretty well established by now that one of the biggest themes in BNHA is that there is no perfect black and white when it comes to people and society and morality, and just about all the conflict is driven by just how badly their entire system (which is built and determined to die on that hill) messes it up for absolutely everyone on all sides. Saying Dabi is a Bad Victim while Shouto is a Good Victim is just as pointless, because you're missing that the real villain is their broken society, of which everyone is a victim, even Endeavour.
Again, Endeavour was the one to abuse his family and he gets no passes for that so don't even try to argue that's what I'm saying, but he didn't wake up one day and just decide to do it. If Chapter 291 has done anything it's shown how escalation is nine tenths of the law in cases like this. He was already an asshole narcissist with a raging inferiority complex, we've heard from his own POV in an earlier chapter that he purposefully chose Rei to have kids with to eugenics a solution to his problem, he was never an upstanding guy.
Tumblr media
While we don't see Endeavour's own upbringing there's a reason he's been such a strong narrative parallel with Bakugou, so we can make an educated guess from what we've seen of his what it must have been like having a powerful Quirk and ambitions being fed by the people around him, and the way Bakugou has clashed with characters like Deku and Shouto when he was confronted with the reality that he wasn't going to get Number One effortlessly, we can guess how well he took realising he was always going to be Number 2.
Tumblr media
Pictured: the hero equivalent of always the bridesmaid, never the bride.
At least with Bakugou's rivals they're his own age and acknowledge him as a rival, All Might is at least a decade older than Endeavour and he's always been a loner who didn't get to know his colleagues that well. As readers we know All Might keeps his distance because he's kinda awkward socially, and because between the threat of All For One and maintaining the flawless image of the Symbol of Peace he wasn't ever able to let his guard down or it might risk people's safety. But just like Bakugou assuming Deku was looking down on him, from Endeavour's perspective it probably looked like All Might was looking down on Endeavour too.
Again, not excusing Endeavour. He's an asshole and needs to be held accountable for his actions. But just like Bakugou he didn't spring fully formed from the womb as an asshole, sure he had all the ingredients for it but their society is what decided it was a good idea to put the lime in the coconut and mix it all up, just like he's the one who broke Touya which ultimately led to the creation of Dabi.
Tumblr media
Which brings us back to Dabi not just calling out his abusive dad but making a spectacle of it, and while again, yes, he's done a lot of murder and that's not okay either, he is absolutely justified in this. Especially because the part of his reasoning for his actions which isn't just maniacal laughter (also totally valid) is that he's correctly identified, much like Shigaraki, that while specific individuals have hurt them and must pay for it, that the overarching problem is hero society itself.
Tumblr media
Shigaraki attacked All Might at first because Sensei said so, but later on because he was the symbol of everything he felt wrong with society, everything he's done has been to attack the pillars of the hero system like All Might and UA. Dabi attacked Endeavour, his abuser, but not just physically attacking him as a man and a father, but by attacking his reputation as the Number One Hero and the new pillar of society.
Tumblr media
Pictured: an asshole who's realising that no matter how badly you think you done fucked up, another asshole can always come along and point out just how much worse it actually was than you thought.
Endeavour's sin was always acting as a hero first and a father second, if ever, and even then it was usually still to further his own ego and ambitions, which was tied so tightly to his role as a hero that Endeavour pretty much didn't exist outside of that. So Touya with his healthy sense of dramatic irony is naturally retaliating by treating him as a hero first and a father second, if ever, because that's the standard of behaviour that Endeavour himself set. Before discarding him for the new model he made it clear he wanted his son to be powerful, aggressive, independent, and to take down the Number One Hero without regard for anything else, and that's exactly what Dabi is doing. He's giving Endeavour exactly what he wished for and is making him choke on it.
Tumblr media
Just like he said, Touya's making sure Endeavour reaps exactly what he sowed because it proves his point, that if he hadn't been such a violent, toxic narcissist none of this would be happening. His desire to call out his abuser is both personal and justified (regardless of how he's going about it), and it shouldn't be condemned because it has nothing to do with his family. His family, who he was the scapegoat of and who he hasn't seen in probably around a decade, and who are still keeping silent about the abuse even though as far as they know it killed him. I'm not saying he hates the rest of his family like he hates Endeavour (though it probably comes closest with Shouto, there's a lot to unpack there) but it would be a very complicated web of love and grief and resentment and guilt that he'd need a weapons-grade therapist to unravel, which he's clearly never gotten considering this is how he's dealing with the trauma.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
tl;dr Touya is a victim just like Shouto, and all the awful things he's done as Dabi don't detract from that, just as his victimhood doesn't excuse his actions either.
In conclusion, you don't have to reconcile or find explanations or excuses for Endeavour's abuse or how any of the other Todorokis have been dealing with it, especially Touya. They are all established facts and exist as objective truth regardless of our feelings on the matter. Instead of making moral judgement on the characters (or the readers who love them/hate them) maybe we all need to stop and think about it critically first, especially when chapters are still incoming and we don't even have the full story yet.
If we can all spend some quality time thinking objectively about all the sides of the story and what lessons we can learn from them, I can guarantee that little things like 'having compassion', 'listening to victims and survivors before they have to resort to domestic terrorism to be heard' and 'learning from the mistakes of the past' will get us all much better results than just sharpening some pitchforks, no matter who they're pointed at.

okay yes. girl dad touya 100%. always. but what if the lil girl isn't his.
when you first start talking, you ask if he's single, married, if he's got any kids. just scoping him out. and he's like, "ew no. don't want any little bastards." LIKE OUCH. so that has you backing off a little, because you're very serious about bringing someone in her life and the last thing you're gonna do is pull in a guy that doesn't want to be there !! no matter how stupid handsome he is.
but dabi is more perceptive than anyone gives him credit for and i think he figures it out pretty quick. and he lets you go, too, for a little while, because he really doesn't like kids. grew up with three younger siblings and couldn't wait to get the fuck out of his parents house, probably left early at like sixteen or something. and he's really not looking to walk back into that kind of shitty family situation.
somehow you end up back in each other's life. and it's got him like fuck. because he wants — something with you, he knows that much. you're not like him, at all; don't come around the bar he works at too often, not littered with tattoos up to your neck like he is, probably never been to jail, either — and you have yet to hold that against him. you're in a whole different tax bracket than he is, because you've got yourself a nice job to provide for your kid, and you still treat him like a person. still smile back at him, hug him when he gets a little shy about your kindness, even brought him flowers once, one night, after he'd make a joke about never getting anything on valentine's day.
so he says fuck it. it's your kid, right ? so how bad could she be, really ?
and he just adores her. not too little — seven this year, she tells him — and she's so funny, for a kid. not afraid of him in the slightest, a little wild, likes to sing, could probably even makes friends with his shit-eating dad. it takes a long time for him to finally meet her, because you're being careful, but he does and you're both surprised by how much he takes to her. has him thinking back on his childhood a little differently; at the time, walking home with fuyumi and baby-sitting on the weekends and having to take natsu with him everywhere and picking up shouto from school every damn day — it seemed like the worst thing back then. but now —
seems silly, to be so hot about.
he lets your daughter call him dabi, because she's so sing-song when she says it, when she calls it to him from across the fucking grocery store. she brings out some weird, repressed kid in him, one that likes to play pretend and get into little mischief, like eating sweets too close to bedtime and finding little ways to prank you when you aren't looking.
it's meant to be so casual when he tells his mom and sister, just a, "yeah, this chick i'm seein' has a kid or whatever," but they ask one question and it turns into story after story after story. takes him a long time to realize he's just going on and on and on about her, that they're just sitting there smiling at him. even makes them tear up a bit, much to his horror, but they're just happy for him, that's all.
and, yeah. he's happy for him, too.

Day 1: Black Cats & Apple Pie
Day 1: Black or Apple Pie
A/N: I’m not going to lie, this is based on Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Also Dabi is Touya but he goes by Touya and named his dog Dabi. Does that make sense?? Summary: It’s a chilly night and you’re sitting out on your front porch with your cat, Salem, when you hear footsteps coming from the woods. Pairing: Warlock!Dabi/Todoroki Touya x Witch!Reader Word Count: 958 Themes: Halloween???, Paranormal AU Warning(s): Strong Language
“Lovely night, isn’t it, Salem?” You mused. It was a beautiful autumn night. The moon was high in the sky behind gray clouds, the faint smell of rain lingered from when it stormed hours ago, and thin layers of fog lingered in the air. A particularly brisk breeze sent shivers down your spine, but it didn’t phase you much. You adored nights like these.
Your familiar merely let out a “mur” at your comment. The black cat could talk to you -- and he often did! -- but he was much too tired to do so. That or he was just being very lazy. He must’ve thought it bothersome to talk when he didn’t feel the need to. Salem was quite rude but you wouldn’t have it any other way. You didn’t want a familiar that obeyed your every whim and sought to please you every moment. You wanted a partnership, which is what you and Salem had.
You remember the night you met him two years ago.
You were about to turn 16. You’d just gotten out of the bath and stepped into your now freezing cold room. You could see your breath in the air, it was so cold.
Looking around for the source of the sudden chill, you found your window to be open, with claw marks on the window sill. Something was in your room. “Shit.” You hurried to close the window to stop any more chilly air from getting in. The second it shut closed, a voice called your name.
“(Y/N)!” Came a raspy male voice.
You whirled around and examined the entire room. You could see nothing, but you knew something was there. “Who are you?” You tried your best to sound unafraid. “Show yourself.”
A terrifying creature with a skeleton face, black skin, glowing green eyes, spindly fingers, and a long tail peeked out from behind your open closet door. “I heard you calling in the woods,” You heard the same raspy voice. “and I came.” The creature disappeared behind the door and a black cat appeared in its place. It meowed as it walked towards you.
“Aw…” You picked the animal up in your arms, listening to it purr. “Such a pretty kitty. What’s your name?”
You supposed you were reminiscing too long for the cat’s liking.
Salem peaked one green eye open and looked at you irritatedly, “Pet me.” Oh, so he was capable of talking! Damned cat. You rolled your eyes. Still, you did as your familiar asked, smoothing your hand over soft black fur. With your free hand you picked up your mug of hot chocolate that you’d set aside earlier. It was now the perfect temperature thanks to the cold weather.
It truly was a nice night.
Then out of nowhere, Salem shot up in your lap, the fur of his back sticking up and a light growl emitting from him. You set your mug down and looked around nervously, “What’s wrong, Salem? You see something?” Despite the fluffy jacket over an even fluffier sweater and the fluffiest sleep pants, a brisk autumn breeze passed right through you, sending shivers down your spine.
“Something’s here.” Salem warned you before jumping off your lap and bounding to the side of your house, out of your line of sight.
“Salem! Wait for me! Fucking cat.” You chased after your familiar, running even faster when you heard him hiss. Then you heard a bark and some cursing. When you rounded the corner, you laughed at the sight before you.
There in all his glory was your wonderful boyfriend Todoroki Touya, holding a pie dish above his head as his rottweiler (and familiar) kept moving between jumping onto his thigh to try and reach the pie and trying to play with Salem. The cat kept swatting at the dog’s face and hissing.
You walked over and picked your familiar up into your arms, “Salem, be nice to Dabi.”
“Your mate is here...and no. I won’t be nice to that slobbering buffoon.”
You bit back a laugh. “What?” Touya spoke up. “What did Salem say about Dabi?” Other warlocks and witches can’t hear what a familiar other than their own says, so all he heard was a meow.
“Oh, nothing to worry your pretty little head over.” You turned around and began walking back to the porch. Your boyfriend and his dog trailed after you.
When you walked into the warm house you yelled out, “Touya’s here!” From the kitchen came your dad, Shouta, and your older brother, Hitoshi. Your dad stared Touya down with narrowed eyes; he wasn’t very fond of your boyfriend.
At first glance, Touya looked like a bad influence. His hair was dyed black, he had 3 nose piercings, a tongue piercing, multiple ear piercings, and had tattoos running down his arms and hands. He didn’t look responsible or reliable.
But he was one of the best people you’d ever met. Just because he looked a certain way, didn’t mean he wasn’t an amazing guy. Your dad was just old fashioned.
Your brother seemed to like Touya, so that was good.
“Um,” Touya looked around awkwardly. “my mom made apple pie. She wanted me to give it to you guys.”
At the mention of pie, your father eased up on his hardened stare and Hitoshi practically snatched the dish out of Touya’s hands and ran with it to the kitchen. You chased after your brother, “Hey, you better not eat all of it, jackass!” Salem chased after you, Dabi after him, and Touya after Dabi.
Shouta sighed and trailed after the teenagers and familiars in his kitchen. If anyone deserved a slice of hot apple pie, it was him.

BnHA/MHA chapter 301 reaction and spoilers
Rei’s maiden name Himura is written with 氷 (hi) meaning ice or hail and 叢 (mura), which I went looking for but found it frequently read as zou or as an alternative kanji to other kanji read as mura. For those curious, Hirumura like Himura Kenshion is written 緋村, which would possibly mean something like red village.
As suspected, Rei’s family was also prominent (though not as much so by the time Endeavor picked her).
Given that Fuyumi seems to be around two maybe going on three here, Touya must be going on five or six since he was definitely not eleven months older than her in a previous flashback, so it’s kind of disconcerting to hear him go “Yeah, I get a little burned, but so what?! I can take it!” and then “I already got it in my head that I gotta surpass the other guy (All Might)! Dad’s the one who lit that fire under me!” We know from his time as Dabi that Touya is given to obsession and perseveration much like Endeavor himself is. So it’s not too surprising that Endeavor pushing his own perseverations onto Touya would create this kind of stress and pressure since Touya himself might also be predisposition to similar behavior. He’s the kind of kid you’d probably need to redirect rather than encourage in this aspect of personality. It’s also disconcerting how he leaves the television room rather aggressively
I got to find out that Natsuo was indeed an absolute unit of a baby but at what cost. Also, Fuyumi’s reaction to Natsuo is totally my reaction to becoming a big sister too. Gotta touch the baby.
That said, poor Rei and Touya. We can watch as Rei looks increasingly stressed and haggard as Natsuo and then Shouto are born. We also watch Touya grow more distant. He’s probably the type of kid you have to reassure that they’re not being replaced as each child appears. We have had some kids like that in our extended family and they can be difficult to manage and reassure even in a normal household, let alone in one like this where one parent’s obsessive perseveration takes control.
Endeavor is right in that it’s time for Touya to stop over-using his quirk because it’s causing actual self-harm, possibly even his hair to completely turn white (though it’s also possible it’s a bit like a blonde turning to a brunette given we know Touya has an ice body). However, Endeavor also enforces this destructive behavior because he’s approaching discouraging Touya from using his quirk incorrectly. What we’re seeing here is a kid looking for his dad’s approval and attention, and Touya at least gets attention by trying to seek approval. This is also part of a theme we’ve seen through the whole manga in which society can’t accept quirkless heroes or heroes that bypass their own quirks. Maybe if Touya looked at ways to become a hero without using his quirk, then he could train with his dad and have less anxiety about everything, but nobody’s going to think of this because society will just go “Why don’t you just use your quirk?” and reject him as a hero in the future. Not that Touya would have to be a hero, but it’s part of that whole redirect thing. Get him thinking about how to be strong without his quirk, make him feel included, etc…etc…
Also kind of reminds me of things I’ve said before, that in a different configuration of their society, the League could be an amazing rescue team, but that would require a society a little less obsessed with quirks, a little better at mental health care, and willing to work with difficult quirks to positive solutions.
I always figured Touya would be the type to set himself on fire out of stress and frustration. I was right, but it’s still alarming and sad to see.
If Shouto is a baby but with longer hair than we saw earlier, then Natsuo is probably about four, Fuyumi about seven, and Touya about nine – ten here. Which really does make this entire situation even more alarming, and also underscores once again their society must not have any properly like counseling care much like our own society lacks it, because Touya clearly is not doing well psychologically and the family system itself seems to be breaking down, especially when you consider we know the state everyone’s in about three or so years later. Yet, like we’ve seen multiple times in this series, their society lacks a functioning mental health care system.
It’s also disturbing to think that we’re probably 3 – 4 years out from some of the flashbacks that Todoroki shared with us earlier in the story. Endeavor watched Touya repeatedly self harm, light himself on fire, and then attack his family and still clung to that perseverative obsession with All Might and let the violence in the household escalate even further.
It also shows that I was right in my conjecture that the family kind of slowly built to the state it was in during Todoroki’s previous flashbacks, which makes Fuyumi’s position in the present make a lot of sense.
Rei closes the chapter by saying, “You [Endeavor] don't get to claim you're hurting more than anyone, and you're not the only one who didn't really see him [Touya],” which is really nice, because we’ve seen Endeavor try to apologize without actually identifying the real problem, so if Rei can apologize and identify the real problem that would be nice. It would also possibly be a good step towards reaching out to Touya, which Todoroki’s already told us he wants to do at some point.

As a parental abuse survivor, Fuyumi is the muse that picked me after MONTHS and YEARS of therapy and working through the emotions that continuously eat away at me.
I will never ignore or write around the abuse that the Todoroki family suffered. Nor will I forgive endeavor for the bullshit he did to his family.
Fuyumi doesn't either. Not really.
So, we're going to dive into the children of narcissists, the roles the children take, and growing up in a toxic household. Hold on to your butts.
Now, I firmly believe that Enji is a narcissistic parent. He tries to create his family and create a perfect narrative of power, primarily through Shouto, after his quirk manifested.
The first target of his abuse, though was Touya. On this blog, we live and die by the theory that he and Fuyumi are twins. In the five common themes seen in narcissistic families, we're going to explore The Neutral Sibling, their role, and how Fuyumi fits that narrative.
The children serve as chessboard pieces. Every individual has one purpose, moves in specific ways, and attacks within the guideline of the family. It's survival mode whether they want it to be or not so that they are not the focus of the narcissistic parent's rage.
That parent is in control of the chessboard, while their counterpart parent, has the unfortunate brunt of some of their abuse. They tend to pit the kids against one another and see their children as extensions of themselves.
The common thread between all (or most) abusive parents is control. This is especially true in the case of children who are born to parents who want something from them. These parents have a desire to control every aspect of their lives. There's no privacy. There's no having your own life. They ridicule children for crying and for having their own feelings in an attempt to force them to think and feel differently. They make children afraid of them by taking out their frustrations on them in different ways, causing the child to live in fear of ever setting this person off and making them walk on eggshells around them. It's never really about the child. It's always about the parent, and in cases like these, the parent is so self-centered and narcissistic that they do not view their child as any different from them. Shouto and Touya, for that matter, were Enji's investments. Objects really. Masterpieces at some points.
Fuyumi as the neutral sibling.
The neutral sibling walks the fine line between the narcissistic parent and the siblings. They are attempting to be the peacemaker. An article I read on the subject sums it up in this way, "There's a lot of mental gymnastics that have to happen when it comes to being a neutral sibling," Thomas [she] said. "Because you're there, and you're trying to pretend you're not seeing what you're seeing, and being the glue."
This role is extremely unhealthy to play. They try to come from a place of kindness and end up denying what they actually are seeing in an attempt to keep everyone happy. This facade of the "happy, healthy, family" and deep denial can eventually break that person.
Another trait that isn't talked about, but I think should be is Pseudomutuality, which is a clinical term but broken down means pseudo-closeness within the family dynamic. It's fake. This makes it very difficult for someone to come into the family unit (i.e., a partner, an in-law.) Dating is very complicated because the abused person has to try to present themselves as they actually are and not the front they had up for most of their lives.
On to Fuyumi, she's Enji's emotional support daughter. (We see that after 'the dinner.') Fuyumi is also the daughter that supports her mother too. (She brings her clothes in the hospital.)
Fuyumi hasn't been able to rely on her mother for the better part of a decade. She's been forced into the parental role at the age of twelve/thirteen at best. It's hard to hold on to your anger, though, and it's so much easier to forgive. When her mother mentions that Enji brings her flowers, we see the look on her face. She's just as skeptical as Natsuo, but she's willing to try. She wants to take the first step toward a "normal family." Natsuo has no intention of forgiving their father for what he's done, though. I see Fuyumi as the type to hold back her judgment until she sees the truth.
Tumblr media
Cut to Enji's fight with the high-end nomu. The kids are watching their father DIE on television, presumably. That visceral reaction to him being beaten, Natsuo begging him practically to run away, but Fuyumi being that voice, the one that knows he won't give up. Now, this isn't a positive thing to me. Oh no. The existence of the Todoroki siblings WEIGH on Enji's unwillingness to accept that weakness. His refusal to accept that beating All Might by having children better than him wasn't the way to defeat him.
"There is no one in the world more stubborn about giving up than that man," This isn't her saying, "oh, dad won't give up." The look in her eye plays it and means, "His stubbornness and pride will kill him before he admits that he can't win. He'll sacrifice everything to prove himself."
Watching their father fight the high-end, they are screaming in horror, panic, helplessness, hate, confusion, worry. All they can do, though, is watch as the man they call father fights for his life.
All they can do is support him too. When he wins the first, I feel like Fuyumi would have instantly felt a sense of relief. He's alive. He won. He made it. This is the first time in a long time that Fuyumi puts stock into her mother's thinking. She said that he's changing, and isn't this fight proof? Sure, he's always been a pro, but THIS fight turned the tide and the crowd in his favor. He's number one now. Maybe they can be a family. Maybe holding onto all of that anger and distrust and guilt after he came so close to tasting death isn't healthy for Fuyumi. So, she lets it slip away.
During the family dinner, Fuyumi says to Enji, "Nice work out there. You must be tired." This is a gesture of a normal family, this is a start, a beginning. It's bizarre, though, especially if we contrast it with before. Fuyumi has no idea how she's supposed to interact with him. She's basing this conversation on the framework of her imagination. She's trying to support him. But the awkwardness continues with her brother's slurping away, calling Enji's scar nasty. She states that their father is trying to reflect on the past. (sounding a lot like Rei.) She wants to believe in her mom's words, that he's trying. I like that she doesn't ask Natsuo or Shouto to not hate Enji, just to hide it. The facade falls apart at the seams when Natsuo stands up and says he just can't do this. That he can't forgive him, unlike Rei or Fuyumi.
Tumblr media
I don't think she really has, though. How can you forgive someone that quickly, that easily, she even says that she thought they could be a proper family. She wants peace. She doesn't really know what peace is, though. She's been neglected just as much as Natsuo has by their father. She's never known what a real family is. NEVER. Not once. Her parents were in an arranged marriage, (Rei was sold to Enji? we don't know the details!) But still, the kids were born as a means to an end. Abuse has always been a part of her life. She's hoping though that they can have a normal family. Trying to put all the fear and pain in her childhood into the past. Of course, that isn't healthy.
Tumblr media
She's attempting to compartmentalize the past so that her family can move forward. She’s not doing a good job of it though.
Fuyumi has panic attacks and nightmares about the past; no one knows about this, though, and does she let anyone in for them to see it. No. She manages a perfect exterior so that no one sees the broken girl beneath it.

Cardcaptor Sakura – 08 – Love and Thunder
Tumblr media
Sakura has a strange dream of Tokyo Tower that’s identical to one she had in the first episode, except that the person in it isn’t her, but some boy in Chinese clothes she’s never met before. Both Kero-chan and Yukito independently surmise it might be a “foretelling” dream.
Sure enough, she meets the boy when he suddenly transfers to her class. His name is Li Syaoran, and he has absolute daggers for poor Sakura from word go, which bore into the back of her head all during class.
Tumblr media
Since my intro to CCS was Clear Card, I’m used to Syaoran as Sakura’s mild-mannered boyfriend, so it’s a bit shocking and upsetting to see just how big a goddamn jerk he is to Sakura when they first meet. During recess he asks her to hand over the Clow Cards she has.
When she rightfully refuses, he gets physical, but thankfully Touya is nearby to help his little sister. Touya and Syaoran are about to throw down with some martial arts when Yukito adorkably breaks up the fight with what else but a big sack of food!
Tumblr media
That night, Kero-chan assures Sakura that because she opened the book and awakened him, she’s already proven she’s worthy of being a Cardcaptor, and shouldn’t pay the kid’s negging any mind. When a new Clow Card shows up in the form of persistent thunder and lightning, Sakura and Tomoyo leap right back into action.
Since she has a battle costume for any theme and eventuality, this week Tomoyo provides Sakura with an outfit entirely made of rubber and other insulators to prevent conduction. As for why she included cat ears? Because they’re cute, NEXT QUESTION.
Tumblr media
Using a combo of Fly and Jump, Sakura has the altitude and agility to keep up with Thunder, but has no idea how to return it to it’s “true form.” To make matters worse, Syaoran shows up, criticizes Sakura for her ignorance, then casts some magic that turns Thunder into a beast.
While that’s a necessary step, the task of actually sealing Thunder falls to Sakura, who possesses Shadow—which unlike Windy is able to restrain Thunder—as well as the staff required to seal the card. Even so, Syaoran isn’t impressed and basically dismisses Sakura as an out-of-her-element tourist before splitting.
Tumblr media
Obviously, Syaoran is wrong. Not only is Sakura capable of capturing Clow Cards, but has every right to do so, even if she’s not related to Clow Reed like the Li Clan. That doesn’t stop Syaoran’s words from hurting Sakura’s feelings, which is clear to both Kero and Tomoyo. IMO Syaoran owes Sakura an apology for being such an meanie right out of the gate.
It’s not her fault her dad had all the cards, and that she found them while he was off in Hong Kong. The two could work better far together as a team rather than rivals at cross purposes, but to do so Syaoran would have to cede Cardcaptor status to Sakura. Something tells me he’s too proud and arrogant for that, but the teamwork will just happen organically regardless!

even if he's been around for a little while, touya still feels a bit odd about the "step-dad" stuff, especially because you two aren't married. the words "dad" and "touya" aren't synonymous, and even if he loves your daughter and she loves him, he just doesn't actively think of himself that way ???
until she comes home from school one day, crying about some boys that are being mean to her, and her face is all puffy and she won't even talk to him, or you, about what happened. and that's when he really realizes how deep he is into this, because he's ready to go back to jail over some eight year olds.
