___________________________________________________
The halls of Hogwarts were quiet as the seventh years prepared for their upcoming exams. In the middle of academic chaos, Remus Lupin found himself in the library, surrounded by towering shelves of books and the hushed whispers of students engrossed in their studies. He had been helping Y/N with Transfiguration for weeks, patiently explaining complex spells and theories, and he couldn't deny that he found a sense of peace in her company.
Y/N, with her determined eyes and infectious laughter, had grown fond of Remus over the weeks. She found comfort in his presence and couldn't help but notice the subtle ways he made her feel special – a lingering touch on her hand, a genuine smile that reached his tired eyes. She believed there was something more between them, something that transcended the realm of friendship.
As they closed their Transfiguration books one evening, Y/N gathered her courage and decided it was time to share her feelings. The library was quiet, the air thick with anticipation. Clutching a book to her chest, nervously watching Remus as he flipped through the pages of another worn tome. The dim light cast a warm glow, emphasizing the shadows playing on Remus's face. She took a deep breath.
"Hey, Remus," she began, her voice a touch uncertain but determined.
Remus looked up, offering a small smile. "Yes, Y/N? What's on your mind?"
"Well," she hesitated, her cheeks flushing slightly, "there's something I've been meaning to talk to you about."
Remus closed the book in his hands, giving her his full attention. "Go on."
She took another deep breath, gathering her thoughts. "I've enjoyed our time together, studying and all. You've been such a great help, and I really appreciate it. But... it's more than that for me."
Remus furrowed his brow, a hint of curiosity in his eyes. "More than that?"
"Yeah," she admitted, her gaze meeting his. "Remus, I really like you. Not just as a study partner, but, you know, in a different way."
Remus's expression shifted from curiosity to surprise. "Oh."
Y/N nervously fiddled with the edge of her book. "I wanted to be honest with you, and I thought you should know. I've been trying to give you hints, but I guess I'm not very good at it. A-and as cocky as it might sound, I thought that maybe we could go to H-Hogsmeade this weekend?"
Remus, however, looked pained as he gently declined, expressing his apologies. "I'm sorry," he said, "I just don't feel the same way."
Y/N felt the crushing weight of disappointment settle in her chest, but she put on a brave face. "It's okay," she replied, managing a small smile. "I understand."
As soon as she left the library, however, her composure crumbled. Tears flowed freely down her cheeks, and the pain of rejection cut deeper than she expected. Unbeknownst to her, Remus, with his heightened senses just days before the full moon, felt a pang of regret. He wanted to explain, to tell her the truth, but he couldn't bear to burden her with the knowledge of his lycanthropy.
The days that followed Y/N's confession were filled with a peculiar tension. Remus couldn't shake the image of her revelation – her candid admission that she liked him despite the challenges he faced. Yet, as much as he appreciated her honesty, the shadow of his own insecurities lingered.
Meanwhile, Y/N navigated the awkwardness with a newfound determination. A month had passed since her confession and heartbreak and she still avoided Remus at all costs. She chose to spend her time with other boys, not out of spite but as a way to cope with the lingering disappointment from the rejection. Remus, however, couldn't help but notice her newfound companions, and the bitterness within him began to fester.
The Great Hall became a silent battleground of unspoken emotions. Remus watched from afar as Y/N sat with different boys, sharing laughter and engaging in conversations that felt like needles piercing through his already wounded heart. Each friendly interaction felt like a dagger, stirring a mix of jealousy, regret, and an inexplicable rage within him.
The days leading up to this confrontation had not been easy for Remus. James, Sirius, and Peter had noticed his increasingly moody demeanor. They cornered him one evening in the Gryffindor common room.
"Moony, mate, what's got you so broody?" Sirius asked with a mischievous grin, attempting to lighten the atmosphere.
Remus sighed, his eyes flickering towards the direction where Y/N was sitting with a couple of boys, laughing. "It's nothing. Just tired from all the studying."
James raised an eyebrow, exchanging a knowing glance with Sirius. "Come on, Remus. We know you better than that. Spill."
Remus hesitated, glancing back at Y/N. "It's personal. Let's leave it at that."
Sirius nudged him playfully. "Come on, Remus, we're your mates. You can talk to us about anything."
But Remus remained tight-lipped, keeping the true reason for his turmoil locked away. As they left him to his thoughts, he couldn't help but feel a sense of isolation, knowing that his friends were unaware of the storm raging within him.
The next day at dinner, Remus found it particularly difficult to concentrate on his food. His eyes kept drifting toward Y/N, who was engaged in animated conversation with a couple of boys from their year. The laughter that echoed in the Great Hall felt like a sharp contrast to the heaviness he carried. Remus's fingers tightened around his fork, and he couldn't bring himself to eat.
James leaned in, nudging Remus with a smirk. "Jealous, are we, Moody Moony?"
Remus shot him a glare. "I'm not jealous. Just preoccupied."
But the Marauders weren't convinced. They exchanged glances, whispering among themselves about Remus's strange behavior.
The sight of Y/N with different boys became a recurring theme. Remus couldn't escape the nagging feeling that he was losing her--not to someone else but to the walls he had built around himself.
One night, fueled by a mix of frustration and desperation, Remus caught up with Y/N in the hallway. His steps quickened until he cornered her, and his words spilled out like a torrent.
"What's going on, Y/N?" he demanded, his voice laced with frustration and a tinge of hurt.
She met his gaze, her eyes flashing with a mix of anger and hurt. "What are you on about?"
Remus couldn't contain himself any longer. "I can't stand seeing you with those other guys. It's driving me mad."
"Why?" she snapped, her tone sharp. "You made it clear you're not interested."
"There's a reason I said no," Remus admitted, his guard slowly breaking down.
"Is it because you're a werewolf?" she blurted out, the words hanging in the air.
Remus was taken aback but nodded reluctantly. "How did you know?" he asked softly.
Y/N scoffed. "I might be complete and utter arse at Transfiguration, but I'm not a daft git. You would go missing once a month and came back looking like you went off to war."
Remus stayed silent, letting her words digest.
"Is that all?" she fired back, surprising him. "Remus, I wouldn't care about that! I care about you."
Remus couldn't believe what he was hearing. Y/N's blunt response left him speechless. He searched her eyes for any sign of deception, but all he found was a genuine concern and care that he hadn't expected.
"You really mean that?" he asked, his voice a mixture of surprise and hope.
She nodded, her expression softening. "Yes, Remus. I mean it. I care about you."
A weight lifted from Remus's shoulders, replaced by an overwhelming sense of relief. "I never thought… I didn't want to burden you. I thought it was better if you didn't get involved."
Y/N stepped closer, her eyes locked onto his. "Remus, let me decide what's better for me. Don't shut me out because of assumptions."
He took a deep breath, the truth hanging heavy in the air. "I appreciate your honesty, Y/N. I've been a fool."
She smiled gently. "We all make mistakes. The important thing is learning from them."
Remus nodded, gratitude filling his eyes. "I promise, I'll be more open with you. No more hiding."
She reached out, placing a reassuring hand on his arm. "That's all I ask, Remus. I want to get to know all of you."
He chuckled softly, a warmth spreading through him. "And I want to get to know all of you too, Y/N. I've been a sorry sod for pushing you away."
The tension that had gripped them began to dissolve, replaced by a newfound understanding. Remus's gaze softened as he looked at her, a mixture of regret and gratitude in his eyes.
Y/N smiled, breaking the silence. "So, are you free this weekend? How about we go to Hogsmeade together?"
Remus's eyes lit up with surprise and delight. "I'd like that, Y/N. Let's start over, shall we?"
She nodded, a playful glint in her eyes. "Fresh start it is, Remus. And this time, no more assumptions."
They walked down the corridor together, the weight of the past lifting off their shoulders. The prospect of a new beginning, filled with honesty and understanding, stretched out before them. Remus couldn't help but feel grateful for Y/N's straightforwardness, and he silently promised himself to make it up to her. Until then, squeezing her hand in his would have to do.

The next few weeks passed by dreadfully slowly, but eventually, September 1st rolled around and it was finally time for Y/N to go back to school. She was excited for the school year, but she had a lot on her mind. Once she boarded the train, Y/N passed compartment after compartment, waving hello to friends, but deciding to keep going until she found one that was empty. She shared a dorm with three other girls, this was going to be the last alone-time she got until Christmas. Her alone-time was short lived, however, when a knock came on the door to her cart and a familiar face showed itself through the window. Y/N smiled as Sirius opened the compartment door. “Need some company?” he he asked with a smirk. “I suppose I could handle that,” Y/N smiled and motioned for him to sit down.
“Don’t you have a group of friends to sit with?” Y/N asked as Sirius made himself comfortable. “Don’t you?” he quipped, raising and eyebrow. “I suppose. But I don’t always sit with the same group of people on every trip, either,” Y/N shrugged. “And here I thought you stopped paying attention to me in first year,” Sirius waggled his eyebrows playfully. “Trust me,” Y/N laughed, “I did. But your group has quite the reputation.” “Anyway, I dunno. I didn’t see any of them. Either I’m the first one on, or they’re farther down the line and if that’s the case, I’ll see them when we get to school,” Sirius shrugged. “How was the rest of your summer?” he asked. “Boring. Stressful. Otherwise, uneventful. How was yours?” she answered honestly. “It was pretty good, actually. I third-wheeled with Lily and James a lot, but we saw some really cool films, took a trip out to the beach, and then Mr. and Mrs. Potter went out of town so we had the whole house to ourselves, it was cool,” Sirius smiled fondly as he described the adventures he shared with his friends, and for a moment, Y/N wished she could have been there, too.
“Oi! There you are! We’ve been looking for you for-oh, hello,” James exclaimed as he and Lily barged into the compartment. “Um, hi,” Y/N smiled politely. “Y/N, right?” James asked. “Yeah. You’re James, and I’m guessing you’re Lily?” Y/N replied. “That’s us,” Lily smiled. “Pardon my boyfriend being rude, but do you mind if we sit with you?” Lily asked, nudging James who had already taken a seat. “Oh, shit, sorry,” James replied quickly. “Oh! Of course, please,” Y/N motioned to the seats and Sirius hopped up from his spot across from Y/N and moved over so he was sitting next to her. Lily took the window seat opposite Y/N and James sat next to her, slinging his arm around her shoulders. An awkward silence settled over the four teens for a few minutes. “So, Y/N, how do you know Sirius?” Lily spoke up. “Oh, we grew up together. Our parents are close,” Y/N answered. “Oh,” Lily tried to hide her confusion. “We sort of fell out during first year because of.. um... I don’t know, my parents stopped liking him,” Y/N explained. “Hey, don’t feel too bad,” Sirius nudged her, “My parents stopped liking me around first year, too,” he joked, easing the tension and getting everyone to laugh.
“Bloody hell, you guys! I’ve been looking for you all morning!” A short boy with poorly styled hair opened the door to the compartment. “Wormtail! Nice of you to join us, mate!” James exclaimed, patting the open seat next to him. “I’m sorry, did you just call him a worm?” Y/N asked incredulously. “It’s an inside joke. That’s Peter. Pete, this is Y/N,” Sirius introduced them, and Peter seemed to see Y/N for the first time. “Oh!” he exclaimed, “Hello!” “Nice to meet you,” Y/N smiled at him and then glanced out the window. Definitely no alone time on this train ride. But it could be fun. Sirius has just been telling her about all the good times he had with these people, maybe Y/N would have a good time with them as well. Just a few minutes later, the whistle blew and the train was on its way to Hogwarts.
The train rolled on, and the teens chatted amongst themselves, catching up on what they had done over the summer. Y/N remained quiet, unless to answer a question. She felt nervous, for some reason, to be around Sirius’s friends. They were nice, and even funny, but Y/N couldn’t help but feel out of place. After about an hour and a half, the compartment door opened. “These prefect meetings get more and more boring every-oh, hello, Y/N,” Remus said as he plopped down in the seat next to Sirius. “Hi, Remus,” Y/N smiles politely. “You two know each other?” Sirius asked incredulously. “Yeah, we’ve had classes together. Last year we were paired together in advanced potion making,” Remus shrugged. “Well I’ll be damned,” James laughed. “I do talk to other people outside of you lot, you know,” Remus taunted. “You’re kidding! Since when are we allowed to have other friends?” James asked dramatically, earning laughs from all of the teens. And so they joked, and laughed the whole way to the school; and while Y/N felt like she was intruding on their time together, the marauders had already begun accepting her as one of their own.

After the sorting ceremony, Y/N went straight to her dorm- the first feast of the year always left her exhausted, she suspected it was all the rich food in her belly. She planned to change into her most comfortable pajamas and curl up with Desdemona before drifting off into a much needed sleep. Y/N was almost able to go through with her plan, too, but what she hadn’t accounted for was that her roommates would also skip the festivities and come straight to the dorm as well, eager to hear all about Y/N’s engagement party. “Y/N, Y/N!” they exclaimed. “We looked for you at dinner but we couldn’t find you, you have to tell us all about the engagement party!” her roommate, Ellie, exclaimed. “Did Amelia Rosehart really design your dress?” Dawn asked. “Let us see the ring!” Cynthia squealed. “It was very nice,” Y/N started. “Amelia did design my dress, and styled my hair and makeup. I looked like a completely different person. We just answered a lot of questions about the wedding plans and had dinner, and then everyone left and Peter and I had a good talk,” she explained.
“I can’t believe you’re marrying Peter Williams, you’re living my dream,” Dawn declared as she plopped into her bed. “Isn’t he so wonderful? Is he funny? I always imagined him being funny,” she gushed. “He’s nice, yeah. And I dunno, I suppose he’s moderately funny. I’ve met funnier people,” Y/N shrugged, “But then again we didn’t talk that much.” “What about the ring? The ring!” Ellie reminded her. “Oh, right. Here you go,” Y/N held her left hand out for the girls to inspect, and Dawn nearly fell out of her bed trying to leap over to see the ring. It was massive, honestly. In the center, there was a large, oval shaped diamond. Around that, there was a small band of emeralds outlining the diamond, and then smaller circular diamonds around the gold band. Y/N felt ridiculous wearing it at school, but her parents insisted she wear it. They believed it would show everyone how well off the family was going to be.
“Was it his grandmothers?” Cynthia asked excitedly. “His great-grandmother’s, and then his grandmother’s, and then his mother’s,” Y/N told them. “Merlin’s beard, it must go back to the 1800s!” Dawn cried. “1897, yeah. His great-grandfather had it custom made for his great-grandmother, and then they passed it down the line of the oldest siblings in the family,” Y/N confirmed. “Godric, it’s nearly a hundred years old and it looks brand new!” Ellie’s exclaimed. “Every time it got passed down it was repaired, plus they expect me to have it cleaned every eight weeks,” Y/N couldn’t help but laugh a bit. “And the party, was it extravagant?” Cynthia asked. “It was.. tasteful. The whole mansion was decorated, and we had a team of chefs come in from France, the food was magnificent, by the way, and yeah.. It was good,” Y/N nodded. “Godric, Y/N, you are so lucky!” Ellie yawned as she climbed into her bed. “I suppose I am,” Y/N agreed as she picked up Desdemona and snuggled up in her blankets. Desdemona’s purrs soon lulled Y/N into a much needed sleep.
The next day, Y/N woke up before her dorm mates to have a shower before the day officially started. She liked the girls, she really did, but she was in no mood to talk more about the Williamses or the party. She returned to her dorm and got ready as quietly as possible before slipping out at heading down to the great hall for breakfast. She passed Sirius and James as she walked in, and she and Sirius exchanged smiles and small waves before she found an empty table to sit at to have a quiet breakfast. Thoughts of her future tangled with thoughts of her upcoming classes, and as Y/N looked down at her empty bowl, she realized that she had forgotten to even taste her oatmeal. She supposed it didn’t matter, it was time to head to her first lesson anyway. She grabbed an apple to snack on later, and made her way to the Transfigurations classroom.
Y/N took a seat in the middle of the classroom and let her thoughts consume her while she had a little while before the lesson started. She was ripped away from her thoughts when the chair next to her scraped across the floor. “This seat taken?” Y/N was surprised to find Sirius holding onto the chair next to hers. “Uh, it is now. Please, sit,” Y/N answered with a smile. Y/N hadn’t had a class with Sirius in a few years, she suspected because he tended to slack off whereas she was one of the top students of their year. “Well imagine that, I put in a little extra effort last year and got moved up into the class with the smart people,” Sirius laughed as he set his belongings down. “Yeah, see what happens when you actually put that brain in there to use,” Y/N teased, lightly tapping on his forehead. At the table behind them, Lily raised an eyebrow and looked to James questioningly. James just shrugged in response.
-
Y/N’s next class was charms, where she took a seat next to Dawn, and was saved by professor Flitwick’s speech cutting off any questions Dawn could have asked. The class itself was pretty uneventful, as Flitwick somehow got distracted and ended up telling the class about his entire summer, instead of starting an actual lesson. When the class ended, Y/N elected to wander the halls for a little bit instead of going straight to her next lesson. She had learned last year that if she was the first to arrive to class, Professor Binns would trap her in a horrendously boring story that conveniently would not end until it was time for class to start. So, she took her time, strolling into the History of Magic classroom just before the door shut signaling for class to begin. Her eyes scanned the room for a place to sit, and she was pleasantly surprised to see Sirius seated in the back of the classroom with an open seat next to him.
“Mind if I sit here?” She whispered as she set her bag down. “Course not, take a seat, friend,” Sirius smiled. “We’re friends again?” Y/N asked him with a slight tilt of her head. “Well, we sit together in two classes and I enjoy the conversations we share, so yeah I suppose we are,” Sirius shrugged. “Is that okay?” he asked. Y/N grinned, “Yeah, that’s okay.” Sirius smiled in return before turning his attention to the front of the room where Binns had started his lesson. Professor Binns was extremely passionate about his job, and Y/N knew that. She tried to listen closely and give him her full attention, more so because she didn’t want to hurt his feelings than actually caring about what he had to say, but he had the most monotonous voice she had ever heard, and the lesson was just so bloody boring. It didn’t help either that James and Sirius were using a golden snitch to pass notes back and forth, either. Finally, Y/N caved in and turned to Sirius.
“Please tell me you’re exchanging cheesy jokes, I’m so bored I’m going to lose my mind,” she whispered. “Almost. James and I are trying to find an animal that best describes Binns. James thinks he’s most like a tortoise but I think that’s too obvious,” Sirius leaned in to tell her, sliding the wrinkled parchment to her. An idea popped into Y/N’s head and with a smirk, she lifted her quill. I think he’s most like a naked mole-rat. He’s wrinkly as hell and is so engrossed in his job that he kept doing it after he died, she wrote. Sirius leaned over her should to read what she was writing and laughed out loud, quickly covering it with an obnoxiously loud cough. He folded the parchment up and stuffed it inside the snitch before sending it back over to James. When James read the parchment, he let out one loud laugh but quickly composed himself before sliding it over to Remus who’s shoulders shook as he chuckled silently. James took the paper down and scribbled another note to pass back to Sirius. She’s in. See if she wants to come to Hogsmeade with us on Saturday.
-
The week sped by as Y/N nervously awaited the weekend. She really liked Sirius’s friends, but her family had a long history and a bad reputation, and they all had every right to despise her for that. Y/N held completely different beliefs than even her own parents, but the legacy her family name held still filled her with guilt. She almost felt like she was holding her breath, waiting for them to realize that they didn’t actually want her around. Y/N elected to wake up early and go to the great hall as soon as Saturday breakfast began. The hall was nearly empty, as most of the students preferred to sleep in on the weekends.
She sat alone and piled her plate with fruit, but instead of eating, she just sat there, trying to calm her nerves and prepare for the day. By the time the rest of the students began showing up for breakfast, Y/N realized that she wasn’t hungry, and she decided to take her uneaten food out to the forbidden forrest. She wasn’t expected to meet Sirius and his friends in Hogsmeade until 10:30, she had plenty of time. On her way out of the great hall, Y/N passed Sirius and Remus, giving them a quick smile before ducking her head and slightly speeding up her pace. Sirius and Remus looked at one another, and Sirius opened his mouth to speak, but Remus beat him to it. “Go on. We’ll see you in Hogsmeade,” he told Sirius. Sirius grinned before turning to follow after Y/N.
When he finally caught up with her, Y/N had just found a place that she decided was deep enough into the Forbidden Forest. “You know, I’m pretty sure Hagrid comes out here to feed the creatures every night,” Sirius spoke up, “You don’t have to sacrifice your breakfast to them.” “I already had it on my plate, and I decided I wasn’t hungry. Didn’t want it to go to waste,” Y/N shrugged. “Plus, I like the animals,” she said, as a little rabbit hopped up and ate one of the berries she had tossed on the ground. Sirius chuckled at the bunny as he stepped closer to Y/N to see the little animals scurrying around the fruit. “What are you doing out here?” Y/N smiled as she turned to him. Y/N was terrified that Sirius was going to snap out of it and realize that she came from everything he hated, but at the same time his presence always made her feel so comfortable. “Wanted to come check on you. You seemed a little off leaving the great hall,” He answered honestly.
“Oh, I’m okay. Just wanted to spend a little time outdoors,” Y/N flashed him a positive smile. Sirius didn’t respond for a minute. “Did you know that your voice changes when you’re trying to be pleasant?” He finally asked her. “What do you mean?” Y/N raised an eyebrow. “Your voice gets higher and you nearly over-annunciate your words so that you sound more confident than you’re necessarily feeling,” he shrugged. “I noticed it at the engagement party, and most of the time when you talk to James, and Lily, and Peter.” “Oh.. I, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to-“ Y/N started. “Y/N you’re not obligated to tell me anything you don’t want to tell me, and you don’t have to do anything you don’t want to do, either. I just want you to know that you don’t have to put on a front for any of us. And I don’t want to you to feel like you have to, either,” he assured her. “You don’t have to be ‘The Daughter of the Y/L/N Family, you can just be Y/N with us.”
“Sirius, I’m so nervous around your friends. I’ve been playing the role of Y/N Y/L/N for so long that I don’t think I even know who ‘just Y/N’ is. And everyone else is fine with the front, but your friends are all so true to themselves, and what they believe in. I just feel like they’re bound to realize that I don’t deserve the kind of friendship they give. I don’t know how to be around people and be relaxed and just roll with the punches,” Y/N admitted. “Hey. We all know that you are nothing like your parents. And they already like you, I can guarantee they aren’t going to change their minds. Plus, I like to think that you’ve been pretty relaxed and honest with me these last few weeks,” Sirius offered.
“I’ve known you my whole life, of course I’m comfortable around you. I don’t think that counts,” Y/N counted. “Oh, it counts,” Sirius decided, earning a laugh from Y/N. “Really though, don’t get so into your head, you’re great, just being yourself,” he assured her. Y/N gnawed on the inside of a cheek for a moment before lurching to the side in order to squeeze Sirius in a quick hug. “Thanks,” she told him, avoiding his gaze. Sirius grinned and nudged her with his shoulder, “Any time.” “Oh, Merlin! We’ve got to be late going to Hogsmeade! I had only planned on being out here for a few minutes,” Y/N scrunched up her face. “That’s alright,” Sirius assured her, “I know a shortcut, come with me.”
Sirius led Y/N back to the castle, up to the third floor, to the statue of Gunhilda of Gorsemoor. “Dissendium,” he said softly, and the statue opened up to reveal a tunnel. “What in the-“ Y/N blurted, but Sirius gave her an exasperated look and she cut herself off. “What in Merlin’s beard is this?” she whispered aggressively. Sirius motioned for her to go down the stairs and she reluctantly began making her way down, Sirius following and immediately falling into step next to her. Once they were a few steps down, the statue closed back up, Y/N stopped to look back but Sirius kept walking and Y/N determined that it did what it was supposed to do and caught back up with him. “It’s a secret passageway,” Sirius told her. “There are loads of them around the castle. This one leads to Honeydukes’s cellar, where I figure everyone will be because Remus likes to stock up on chocolate on the first trip of the term,” He said. “How do you know where they are?” Y/N asked him in amazement. “We... do a lot of things that aren’t homework,” Sirius shrugged. “I’m gonna let it go for now, but I definitely want to see some of the other passageways,” Y/N told him. Sirius grinned and agreed before picking up his pace a little bit.
By the time Sirius and Y/N climbed up the stairs from the cellar into Honeydukes shop, the marauders were still browsing the selections of sweets. “Hello all, we made it!” Sirius announced as he approached James and slung his arm around him. “Wow, Sirius is late, who would have expected this to happen?” Remus commented in a monotonous tone, earning laughter from James, Lily, and Peter. “Would have been on time but I got distracted by Y/N out in the forbidden forest trying to sneak a bowtruckle into her pocket!” Sirius grinned. “You know, I’m not sure that’s exactly how it went,” Y/N quipped. “I think the most important question here is: do you actually have a bowtruckle in your pocket?” James asked her. “Unfortunately, I do not. I actually was wanting to get a few to live in my garden at home but my mother thinks they’re vermin and forbade it,” Y/N admitted.
“No problem, here’s the plan: We find a bowtruckle for you. We spend the entire year training it to play camouflage and be still when other humans come in the garden, and boom-your parents will never even notice it,” James proposed. Y/N was taken aback at his willingness to help her at the drop of a hat, but she tried not to show it. “Do you really think that will work?” she asked him. “Of course! Bowtruckles are very intelligent,” James shrugged. “Plus, your mother doesn’t pay much attention to things that she deems unnecessary,” Sirius added. “Sirius!” Lily scolded. “Oh, no, it’s okay! He’s totally right,” Y/N assured Lily with a laugh. “She’s been in my conservatory maybe three times, and all she ever does is glance around and say ‘it looks nice, dear,’” Y/N over-corrected her posture and did an exaggerated impression of her mother. “As long as it didn’t move around, she would probably just see green and think it belongs there,” Y/N added.
“Sounds doable,” Remus shrugged, “When do we want to start?” he asked. “Do you all really want to do this?” Y/N asked, looking to each of them. “It does sound fun,” Lily nodded. “Plus, I love any excuse to piss off parents,” Sirius smirked. “I think we’re all in,” Peter added. “Alright,” Y/N smiled. “Maybe we can skip lunch in the great hall tomorrow and bring our food out to the forbidden forest instead?” Y/N suggested. “It could be like a picnic and a mission all in one.” “Oh, I think lunch in the forest would be lovely!” Lily exclaimed. “Lunch tomorrow, then. Operation Bowtruckle is a-go!” James declared. Y/N grinned as the group split up to finish picking out their sweets.
“I can’t believe they just decided to up and help me like that,” Y/N told Sirius as she picked up a tin of lemon-sherbets. “I told you, they like you already. Plus, we all love a good mission,” Sirius smiled and nudged her shoulder with his. “I’m really excited, it sounds fun. Plus, I think it’ll be a nice way to stick it to my family once the school year ends,” Y/N admitted, “It’s not harmful in any way, but it’s slightly petty and I think it’ll make me feel a little better.” “I personally don’t think it’s enough to make up for them selling your freedom, but if it makes you feel better about it than it’s a start,” Sirius shrugged. Y/N froze at his words but quickly snapped herself out of it, hoping that Sirius wouldn’t notice, but he did.
“I... I didn’t mean it like that,” Sirius told her softly. “It’s okay, really-“ Y/N tried to stop him but he cut her off. “I just mean that they’re asking a lot of you, and sneaking in a two-inch leaf creature isn’t nearly on the same scale of sacrifice,” He told her. “No, you’re right. I just don’t really have any other way to rebel so I’m doing what I can,” Y/N shrugged and gave a light laugh, and Sirius could tell she didn’t want to pursue the topic any further. “Maybe we can train it to be very stealthy and sneak around your house making noises to mess with your mum?” Sirius joked, slinging an arm around Y/N’s shoulder. “What,” Y/N laughed, “You want to use a bowtruckle to gaslight my parents into thinking the manor is haunted?” Sirius joined in her laughter for a moment before shaking his head. “I was thinking more along the lines of rodents in the walls but I like where your mind is,” Sirius told her, and they both burst into laughter again. “You’re crazy, Sirius Black,” Y/N laughed as she shook her head.
The teenagers finished picking out their sweets and the group reconvened outside of Honeydukes. “Anyone fancy a trip to Zonko’s?” Remus offered. “I actually need to go to Scrivenshaft's for a new quill,” Lily replied. “Oh, I wanted to get some parchment and quills for journaling!” Y/N agreed. “The boys always lose their heads in Zonko’s anyway. Y/N, why don’t you and I go get our supplies and leave them to their toys,” Lily flashed Y/N a wink as all of the marauders began to protest. “They aren’t toys!” Peter cried. “We’re planning chaos!” Sirius protested. “Yes, I can see what you mean. They’re obviously very passionate about the pranks,” Y/N laughed, “I’d love to join you, Lily.” And with that, the group split into two.
“So you said that you and Sirius grew up together?” Lily asked as the girls made their way through Hogsmeade. “Yeah, our parents are good friends so we spent a lot of time together as children. Shortly after the start of first year my parents wrote me a letter saying that Sirius was becoming too much of a troublemaker and that I wasn’t to see him anymore,” Y/N admitted. “And that was just… it?” Lily asked. There was no judgment in her question, just complete surprise. “That was it. The society we grew up in, what Sirius did is almost unheard of. We’re trained from birth to listen to our parents and be upstanding members of the community. If our parents tell us that we aren’t to associate with someone, we never see them again. Image and status are everything to them,” Y/N told her.
“So what changed?” Lily asked, opening the door to Scrivenshaft's and holding it for Y/N to enter. “I don’t know, I ran into Sirius at my engagement party over the summer and I was a little bit miserable. Sirius was the only one who noticed, and we talked and, I don’t know, it was nice to have a genuine conversation with someone. It was like no time had passed and I realized that I missed him. That’s sort of crazy, isn’t it?” Y/N laughed nervously. “That’s not crazy at all, everyone needs friends that they can depend on, and Sirius is a good one,” Lily smiled. “But let’s back up just a tad… You’re engaged?” Lily asked incredulously. “Yes. Well, sort of. I mean… Yes. My parents promised me to the son of another family when we were children. Now we’re to be married when the school year ends,” Y/N explained. “Y/N that’s… heavy,” Lily stopped rummaging through shelves to look at Y/N. “Oh, it’s alright. Peter seems nice, and financially well off, and I’ve been prepared for this for years so it’s okay,” Y/N nodded and Lily didn’t want to press on.
“But you and Sirius seem to have reconnected without a hitch,” Lily offered. “Oh, yeah absolutely. It’s weird how we’ve only just picked up again and he already seems to know me better than my family and my other friends,” Y/N pondered. A knowing glimmer shone in Lily’s eyes and she just nodded as Y/N began looking for the parchment she needed. Lily stood pondering for a moment before catching up with Y/N. She decided it was best to not press on and changed the subject. “That’s the best parchment for personal writing, I think. Do you write?” Lily asked her. “I like to write out my feelings, mostly. Sometimes I write poetry, but that’s pretty much the same thing only in a stuck-up way,” Y/N laughed, “What about you?” “I don’t think poetry is stuck up at all, I think it’s beautiful! And I like to journal, write about my day, things to preserve memories, you know?” Lily replied. Y/N smiled, “I think that’s brilliant. I’ll have to try that-writing down my favorite memories from the day.”
“I’d love to read more poetry,” Lily pondered aloud. “Oh, I could recommend you some books! My parents had me reading poetry my whole life to improve my prose, that’s how I got into writing it,” Y/N offered. “I would love that! What else do you like to read?” Lily asked. “Old stuff, mostly,” Y/N admitted with a laugh, “Shakespeare, Dickens, Brontë, Wilde, stuff like that.” “All good, yes, but hear me out: modern sci-fi, or if that’s a little too much for you, some romance?” Lily suggested. “I’d be open to both, honestly,” Y/N nodded. “How about we do a book swap? Every Sunday we meet in the library and pick out a book for the other to read-You pick out a poetry book for me, I pick something modern and muggle for you, and then the following Saturday we can talk about the books!” Lily exclaimed. “Lily Evans, I think we’re going to be very good friends,” Y/N grinned as she tossed her arm around Lily’s shoulders and the girls made their way to the counter.

Young!Remus Lupin x Reader-The Valentines Day Dance
My second drabble for my Valentines Daty writing challenge!
This one was requested by my dear friend @xacatalepsyx with the prompt "Will you be my valentine?"
I hope you all enjoy this!💛
Remus was pacing the common room, his anxiety building with every minute  that passed him by.
This was a horrible idea.
The worst.
If he left now, he’d be out of the common room before Y/n arrived; he could save both of them the embarrassment.
But then he’d have to deal with his friends; James, Sirius and Peter.
However dealing with those three seemed more appealing than staying here, waiting nervously for Y/n's arrival.
He liked Y/n. As a lot more than just a friend.
That’s why his friends persuaded him to ask her to the Valentines Day Dance.
A dance  that was based on the Muggle tradition, Valentines Day.
But the dance was tomorrow and all Remus could think about was that he was too late.
Y/n was beautiful, inside and out, so it certainly wouldn’t surprise him if someone else had already asked her.
That’s why he didn’t want to ask her; the fear of admitting his feelings to her only to have them rejected turned his insides upside down.
He didn’t want to ruin their friendship.
Eventhough James, Sirius and Peter had assured him that wouldn’t happen, the thought still lingered in his mind.
“Rem?” Y/n asked, knocking Remus out of his thoughts and making his movements come to a sudden halt.
It was too late to run away now.
“Are you okay?”
Remus simply nodded, ignoring the questionable look that was filling Y/n's eyes, casting his gaze down at his feet.
“Remus? If somethings wrong you can tell me,” she said, her voice soft but full of concern.
“I-I…” Remus stuttered out, as his eyes met Y/ns.
He took a deep breath in, trying desperately to get a hold of his nerves.
He could lie, or just make a run for it. But the longer he looked at Y/n, the more he just wanted to admit to her how he truly felt.
“Will you be my valentine?” The question slipped so quickly from his mouth; at first he wasn’t even sure he’d said them, until he saw a look in Y/n's eyes.
Shit.
He’d messed up.
This was going to be the end of their friendship.
He mentally prepared himself for the words of rejection that were about to come, but those words never came.
“I was wondering when you’d ask,” she softly chuckled, a gorgeous smile growing on her face.
“What?”
The shock was evident in Remus’ voice.
“Of course I’ll be your valentine, Rem,” she beamed; wrapping her arms around the back of his neck. Instinctively, Remus wrapped his arms around Y/n's waist, pulling her closer to him.
He thought this was a dream.
That was until Y/n's lips were on his; she was kissing him and after a few seconds he was kissing her back.
“I’ve waited so long to do that,” she whispered against his lips.
“So have I,” he breathed, before closing the distance between them once again.

When you woke up in Remus’ arms one Friday morning, your throat felt all scratchy and your forehead was sweaty. Your mouth was dry and your nose was clogged, but you pulled yourself from your boyfriend’s arms and got up and ready for class. Remus would be waking up soon, as he was the early bird of the marauders.
You got your clothes from your drawer in Remus’ dresser, trying not to wake him. You thought you might go get him breakfast so he could cram a little more sleep in. A cough, however, woke the lycanthrope up before you got the chance.
“Baby? Are you okay?” he asked, sleepily.
“Yeah,” you said through another cough, “just allergies, that time of year again.”
“Are you sure? You sound sick, my love,” he said, reaching for you to come back into bed.
“I was just about to go get us breakfast, honey,” you said, brushing your fingers against his. He nodded before leaning back to his pillow.
After Remus asked you if you were feeling well several times, he finally gave up. Unfortunately, as you got halfway through the day, you only felt worse. You were sweating, even in the cold divination tower. Your nose was runny and your throat was sore. With that, you pushed yourself closer to him and cuddled with him whenever you could, despite your worry about getting him sick, too.
“Baby, you’re definitely sick,” your boyfriend whispered to you during potions.
“So what? I can’t miss class, anyway,” you whispered back painfully.
“Well break is soon, so you-” he said, tapping your nose, “-get to go to my dorm, my love.”
“Okay, fine.”
And you obliged. Though you didn’t want to miss class or make your boyfriend sick, you did have to admit that you were really tired. You immediately lay down in his bed and got comfortable. The sheets smelled like him, which somehow made you feel like you were being nursed back to health.
You heard the bell ring, indicating that the break was over, but you were barely awake and ignored it so that you could sleep.
After some time, your boyfriend walked in, waking you up.
“Are classes over?” you asked, rubbing your eyes.
“No love,” he said, showing you his full arms.
“What’s all this? What about lessons?”
“Don’t worry, Lily will give me notes, baby,” he said starting to empty his arms on the bed, “I had to run, but you were sleeping, so I suppose it didn’t matter too much. Anyways, I ran to the hospital wing-I had to talk Madame Pomfrey out of bringing you there-Lily lent me your favorite book, and Pete snuck into the kitchens for cocoa and your favorite snacks. A lot of people owe me things.”
“I love you-” you whispered, still half asleep, “no, no, go back to class. I’m going to get you sick,” you added as he started to get into the bed with you.
“Well, you’re already in my bed, but I will do this first,” he said, now going over to the dresser and getting his favorite sweater and sleep shorts, “here, put this on. Then you can go back to sleep, love.”
And he helped you change out of your uniform. He got you to take medicine and get some food & drink in your stomach before reading to you as you fell asleep in his arms again.

Leaving - Part 2 (Remus Lupin x Potter!reader)
Reader is James Potter's sister.
Warnings: injuries/wounds, I think that's it
Part 1
Tumblr media
It had been weeks since Remus left your home. Through your kitchen window, you could see the first real snowstorm growing outside your cottage located on the outskirts of Hogsmeade.
After a restless night, the snow brought you comfort. Fall might be your favorite season but winter came in at a close second.
Deciding against your usual cup of tea, you began to grab the necessities to make hot chocolate. You had planned to spend the morning reading by your fireplace where you could watch the snowfall outside your living room window.
There was a knock at your door, so faint you almost didn't hear it. Opal chirped at the sound as you moved to the door located in the kitchen. You were met with a gust of cold winter air hitting your skin as you opened it. The chill that blew through your sweater was immediately forgotten when you noticed the tattered clothed, shivering man on your doorstep, looking as if he would collapse at any second.
"Remus" you let out a gasp as you rushed to support him, leading him inside.
"I'm sorry" you faintly heard him mumble before he groaned at the movement.
You rushed him to the chair in front of the fireplace, grabbing a knitted blanket to wrap around him. Bending down to his eye level you noticed very recent wounds on his face. Of course, you knew what had been last night. It was the reason you couldn't sleep. Thoughts of Remus alone during the full moon plagued your mind. You had to shake the thought of him going through his transformation alone from your head before your heart broke anymore for the man you have been in love with since 6th year.
"Remus" you spoke softly to get his attention. He slowly shifted his gaze from the crackling fire to your eyes.
"I'll go grab some gauze and a few potions to help with the healing while you warm up." he was too weak both from the horrible night and being in your presence again to argue, to ask you to just sit with him so he just nodded his head instead.
-------------------------------------
You finished cleaning his wounds and wrapped gauze around his torso. As you put the roll of gauze on the coffee table, Remus settled back into the sofa.
"Do you want some hot chocolate, I was just about to make some before, well, you know" you asked motioning towards him, once again drawing his eyes away from the fire to meet yours.
"Oh, but you should probably rest, I know how rough those nights can be for you Rem, and..." before you could finish rambling he interrupted you with a weak smirk.
"Hot chocolate would be nice"
-------------------------------------
After your cups of hot chocolate were finished you helped Remus move to lie down even though you argued that your bed would be better for a man as tall as him. His heart ached at the thought of sleeping in your bed again when he wasn't sure if you even still loved him. So he protested that he would be fine and that he couldn't be bothered with journeying up a flight of stairs, before mumbling that he also wanted to be near you.
Which leads you to where you are now, curled up on your armchair in front of the fireplace, reading your book. Perhaps glancing more often than you would ever admit to Remus's sleeping figure on your sofa.

How The Marauders React To You... With Tea
SUPPORT TRANS PEOPLE NOW: https://give.hrc.org/page/103141/donate/homepage2022
Tumblr media
FEATURING: Snape, James, Sirius, Regulus, Lilly, Peter and Remus
James:
The first cup of tea you brewed was for James before he went out for his daily run, he had rushed into the great hall to give you a kiss on the cheek before he left but you grabbed him by the tie and pulled him into the seat next to you and quickly raised the cup to his lips. He took to scowling at the cup and reared his head, you waited for his childish tantrum to end and when he gave you a regardful glance out of the corner of his eye and saw you were nodding him on he took a sip.
He pulled back from the black tea and puckered his lips for a few seconds, savouring the sharp taste Assam tea had. You watched him dart his tongue out to lick the remnants off his lips while staring at your breakfast in front of you with creased brows, deciding if he liked it or not.
"What is it?" He asked as he gently grabbed the cup from you and looked into it as if expecting it to be some kind of potion.
"It's just tea", You laughed as he held the cup closer to his face, you felt the temptation to push his head into the cup come and go.
"It needs milk", He said, reaching for the milk as you grabbed his hand.
"No! It's black tea!" You tried to grab the cup but he just batted you away with his much longer arms and poured a little milk into it, mixing the creamy cloud into the pearly surface with the teaspoon that was laying by your saucer.
"Surely you can put milk in black tea, it bloody well needs it", He took another sip and once again stared into nothing with a quirked eyebrow before finally nodding.
"Better, here you go, I have to go now, tell Sirius I'll see him in charms", He jumped up to leave, handing the contaminated tea back to you which you took a sip of before giving into James's innovation. It was much better with milk.
"I love you!" You called out which seemed to click something into James as he abruptly stopped in his tracks, nearly running into a pair of Hufflepuffs who had appeared by the doorway.
He turned sharply and ran down the length between the tables, stopping only to use your shoulders as his break system, as if he was an awkward middle schooler with a pair of roller blades and you were the wall around the rink.
He reached down and pecked you on the cheek, pulling back with a grin on his face as he flipped back around and darted off, his hair slightly pulling behind him from the length it had gained over the winter months.
Lilly:
Lilly was sitting on the couch closest to the fire, trying to tuck her face behind her book, making sure nobody could read behind her back, this lasted a total of twenty minutes before you invited yourself to jump next to her with a half-empty mug of tea in your hands which reeked of sweetness, wafts of sugary air assaulted Lilly's noses which caused her to wrinkle the appendage and slam her book shut on her lap.
"Merlin, how much sugar have you put in that?" She dared to peek over the cup to see a sad sight of the lightest tea she had ever seen with a more profound reek of sweetness hitting her.
"Remus made it for me, I think he had made it for Sirius but...Yeah. I struggled to get it that far", You wrinkled your own nose at the drink and swirled it around the cup, watching the contents mix themselves.
"Oh well, I can help you if you need", She offered with a grin, slipping her book by her thigh as she pulled her legs into her chest, curling up like a beautiful house cat.
"Thank Godric, I was going to ask anyway", You smiled holding the cup up to her face only for Lilly to pull out her wand and aim it at the cup at the same time.
A red carried its way from her cheeks to her forehead as she realized you meant help drink it not to vanish it.
"Oh, I'm sorry", You apologized pulling back with an embarrassed flush over your face.
"Oh no no! That's alright, here", Charged full of embarrassment and her fear of you seeing Lilly in a different light she ripped the cup from your hands and rushed it to her lips, taking a large swig that instantly put a sour purse on her lips.
"Is that salt?" She asked with a shake of her tongue at the word salt.
You smiled with a grin nodding as you laughed loudly, taking the cup from her hands and placing it on the floor beside the couch.
"Oh man, I just couldn't resist! You should have seen it!" You chuckled so loudly that a few people shushed you in the common room but you simply ignored them and continued.
Lilly thought of every insult to throw at you, she watched the ideas of screaming and shouting at you fade as your face imprinted itself into her mind's eye. Your face was filled with a love for life that made her cheeks glow for a different reason. Your unwavering joy of this joke made Lilly feel a twinge of something chemical in her heart, she wanted to pull you close and kiss you right here but she couldn't.
"Haha-Uh You alright Lil'?" You finally turned to look at her and when you saw she wasn't scowling or pulling faces like she usually did after a stupid prank you were afraid you had truly upset her.
"Yeah yeah, I just--You--I have to go!" She all-of-a-suddenly grabbed her book and stormed out of the common room, her fantasies of your face making her heart heavy.
Remus:
The library was your favourite place in the winter of Hogwarts and here was where Remus found you, curled up with a copy of a book about something he didn't look at, instead he was keenly following the sweet scent of honey which was leading him to your cup on the table in front of you.
He stared down at you and when you didn't react to his presence he gently settled himself in the seat opposite you. The big room was so quiet that Remus felt a shiver run up his spine.
He placed his hand on the table and it remained still for a moment before he held it upright, pointing his index and middle finger into the wooden table, using his fingers like they were legs, he slowly took tiny inches toward your cup and was about to make a grab for the mug painted with deep purple violets when you finally materialized back to reality.
"If you want some, just ask Moony", He looked up at you with huge, bloated brown eyes whose pupils were blown up to the size of dinner plates.
"Can I have some?" He asked as he finally grabbed the handle and brought it close to him, taking a deep sniff of the sweet redbush tea which was loaded with honey in every waft that entered his nose trails.
"Of course, see if you like it", You smiled, placing the book back down and dropping your head into your palm to support yourself.
He took a deep sip and smacked his lips a couple of times before humming in a low monotone pitch for a couple of seconds. He stared down into the cup before smiling, his smile pulled at your heartstrings as he handed it back to you.
"Will you make some for me sometime? I love it", He couldn't help but reach for it again and you obliged as you handed it back, allowing your fingers to graze as he grabbed the cup back and took another sip.
"Of course, maybe we can have some tomorrow, I think you'll like another one I have as well, it's made from cacao nibs", You nearly cracked a rib as Remus's eyes lit up, almost dog-like in nature as his posture straightened.
"So, it's like chocolate?" He asked, taking another sip, watching you over the rim of the mug.
"Yep, just for you", You laughed as he stood up and walked off to the exit, still holding the mug.
"Why wait? Carpe Diem as they say", He was practically running as you sprinted after him with laughter in your belly.
Peter:
The green tea was sitting by the chess game in front of you two and you weren't sure if it was perhaps the healing energy coming out of the small handleless mugs that was energizing you but so far the game was pulling in your favour which made you smile.
"This isn't fair, are you sure you didn't add liquid luck in that", Peter gestured his hand at your porcelain cup with disdain as your queen rather harshly smacked his knight off the board and onto the carpet in little bits and chips.
"Nope, maybe you're just getting old and tired Wormtail", You snickered as you took the cup and brought it to your lips, taking a sip as Peter turned back to the board with a snort.
"Yeah right, I wouldn't be surprised if you traded something with old Snivillius again", Peter dumbly disregarded your queen and spoke to the board which moved his rook to your bishop.
"I can neither confirm nor deny my business dealings with others Pete, you must know that at least", You watched as your queen didn't even wait for you to speak as she moved to the clear move,  right in front of the last guard on Peter's King.
"Yeah that's something a guilty person would say", He scoffed, taking a large sip of the subtle tasting tea as he moved his bishop to your knight.
"It's not my fault that you're a low-level potions student who can't tell when his tea has been bugged with mackled malaclaw", You added off handily as you drained the final dregs of the tea with a shake of your head at the bitter leaves in the bottom.
Peter suddenly spat out the tea all over the chess pieces who stood up and began shaking their fists at him but he paid no attention as you looked down at his hands with his voice coming out in huff and puffs as if expecting to see he had turned into a hideous beast.
"You what!" He yelled as he wiped his mouth on his loose red tie which hang around his neck with reckless abandon.
You smirked evilly and cackled as you leaned back and watched him panic for a few minutes until you had your fill of laughing, it may seem cruel but you thought of every time he had danced around the common room after he would win and call you a loser as you sat defeatedly trying to act nonchalant while inside you were holding back from smacking him into next week.
"Peter it's not poisonous, Severus took out the side effects for me, you should be laughing really, that little cup cost me a good fortune and a large smack in my reputation", You watched Peter pick up the cup with a growl and throw it at you which caused you to laugh as you dived below the table as the cup smashed behind you on a wall.
"Hey! Watch the face!" You called out as you poked your head up which caused Peter to promptly dive across the little table, knocking the chess into the air as Peter leapt to you and began straddling your waist as he playfully grabbed at your throat and pretend to strangle you which you played along with, acting as if he was really harming you. The acting was enough to convince a couple of first years who gasped and ran out of the room which made you laugh and finally for the first time today Peter joined in.
You both lay next to each other and stared up at the ceiling as you both sighed, allowing the suddenly quiet room to settle.
"M'sorry", You called out as you slipped your hands under your shirt, rubbing your stomach as the tea settled perfectly into place within the contents of your stomach.
"M'sorry too, I'm a sore winner sometimes, it's not fair", He didn't raise his voice too loud, making sure only you could hear him.
"How about we both admit we were both wrong and forgive and forget", You held out your hand upright, and much to your pleasure another hand entered your vision and grabbed yours, filling your hand with heat that travelled up your arm and to your face at his touch.
Severus:
The aroma had filled the Slytherin common room and upon entry, Severus had thought it was some stupid peer's failed potion but the scent only strengthened in velocity as he came closer to his dorm room and the dread filled his stomach as he flicked through his dorm mates, trying to figure out who was the most likely culprit at the mess he was about to uncover.
He opened the door with a dramatic whoosh but the room was in the same condition he had left it in the only difference was the cup on his side table which was accompanied by a note that was written in your iconic handwriting which he identified in seconds. He walked over to the cup and sniffed it with a scowl, sure it was a botched attempt of yours that you had made without his consultancy.
He picked up the cup which was acting as a paperweight to the note and sat on his bed to read it.
Dear Snake,
A poor sense of humour as always, he thought as he exhaled firmly.
I wanted to say thank you for your help with potions this week, you did an adequate job at helping me.
Adequate? He had taken multiple hours out of his private time to help the little spoiled home-wrecker.
I appreciate it, I know it was not your choice but considering we were forced to spend time together by professor Slughorn I have to say you made it rather enjoyable.
He paused at those words with a momentary glance around the room before he allowed himself a small smile. He had found himself enjoying your tutor sessions more and more as each lesson passed but he wouldn't dare admit it even on his deathbed.
I made you a cuppa to say thanks, I know you probably don't remember but I made this tea during our last session and you tried it (without my consent) and told me it was audacious. Whatever that's supposed to mean but it was the first time I saw you without that dumb frown on your face so I made you some.
Your client and friend, y/n.
He stared at the page, looking for any sign of doctoring but it looked real, the ink was the shade you used and the loop on the letters was yours but he couldn't help it, why on Earth would you write this?
He placed the letter next to him and picked up the cup. The steam came off it in normal patterns and the colour was the same colour it had been when he tried it the first time but he could feel the protective side of him flare up and the urge to throw it down the drain without a second thought pushed its way to his brain.
He stood up and walked over to the window, opening it to throw the contents of the cup outside but he paused at the last second and glanced down once again before shaking his head at the stupid trust you had installed in him before taking a sip of the tea which caused the same euphoric bursts along his tastebuds which made him smile once again. It wasn't a trick.
He enjoyed the tea by the window for a couple of minutes and when he was finished he knew he had a perfect excuse to speak to you again, to give you back the cup. He damned the excitement that elected in him and returned to his bed.
Sirius:
The party from the common room could be felt throughout the whole tower and for once you felt like flipping off the boys who had organized it. Usually, you would be down with them enjoying the music and talking to everyone but this essay was due tomorrow and this was the final straw for your parents who had become sick of receiving owls detailing your various schemes which ended with rather shabby grades.
The quill felt heavy in your hand and the ginger, honey, and lemon tea were not curing this tired vibration between your eyes that told you to give up and go join the party.
You had finished the last line to your fourth paragraph when the door cracked and in stumbled Sirius, his hair was long and shaggy, the smell of alcohol and cigarettes pouring from his scalp as if the mutt was sweating the stuff. He tripped over your trunk with a giggle as he picked himself back up and waddled over to you, slamming his head onto the table as he stared up at you from his knees, a bottle of what looked like fire whisky in his hand, the substance no doubt all over your room now.
"Hello Padfoot, having fun?" You couldn't help but let the jealousy leak out of your words. He didn't need to study because he leeched off Remus and James but unfortunately the boys had an ongoing trick on you where they offered exactly no help with essays much to your anger which only amused the boys more.
"Oh yeah but y'know it's really missing you down there, I need someone to dance on the tables with, M'all alone down there", His face was turned towards you, his hair a fallen mess all over his face.
He wasn't quite wasted but he was very tipsy, he probably would have a patchy memory tomorrow but for now, he was still conscious. He suddenly let out a deep sniff and his eyes instantly pinged to the cup on your other side which was in the largest mug you could find.
"What's in there!" He pulled himself up with an innocent grin as he abandoned the bottle by your chair and hazardously picked up the mug, daring to swing with it in a tight swirl around the room much to your dismay.
"Careful! That's tea!" You jumped up to try and pick the mug up from him but Sirius gave you a run for your money.
He darted all around your room, jumping on your dormmate's beds and sending piles of clean clothes ready for folding, books, and personal belongings flying everywhere in heaps.
He finally made his way to your bed and sat down, laying his feet off the sides to keep the dirt away from your covers. His face had an angelic glow while he laughed and you couldn't help but grin at his drunken stupidity. He was so pretty and the bastard knew it, he knew he made you crazy and the booze had given him the courage to tease you about it, this is what he was doing, taunting you with something you couldn't have.
He took a sip from the mug and pulled a face of disgust before slowly taking another sip while watching you huff at his antics. You had given up and sat down on the chair you had been sitting on before, your body facing him while simultaneously slouching with a scowl directed at the pretty boy who was now as happy as a fat cat with his cup of sweet cure.
"Isn't somebody missing you somewhere?" You asked, exasperated. It was just like Sirius to come and find you when you were trying to get some decent work done.
Sirius went deadly silent at your words, continuing to watch you he twisted over to place the cup beside the bed, letting you see the side of his toned stomach as his shirt rode up slightly.
You could feel your face heating up but you didn't dare look away in case you blinked and he pounced on you. The heat slowly wavered as he flopped back, he cocked his head to the side with a grin.
"I should go, leave you to it. But I don't want to", He stood up, pulling his jeans up. He crept towards you, his face smirking with a nasty on his lips that had you paralyzed in your chair.
"I think you and I should make our own fun, whaddya' you say darling?"
Regulus:
The sky was crystal clear, not a cloud was in sight and it was very freeing to feel the wind gently blow over your skin, rustling your hair while sitting on the patterned picnic blanket beside the black lake. The sun was hidden by the tree overhead and it was amazing to feel the diamonds of light slip down through the trees and carefully dance over your face.
The picnic food was hot and steaming, letting out wafts of warm scents which tickled your brain and made your stomach gurgle with the aches of hunger.
It was midday and while you had expected Regulus to stand you up once again for his friends you still felt the sadness drip into your heart.
You sat up, preparing to have a picnic for one but just as you opened the basket lid to pick out the hot food the sound of footsteps crunching on the grass made you perk up, you peeked over the line of trees you had chosen to host the secret date behind, and there coyly emerged Regulus.
He was wearing a beautiful white dress shirt that was a happy change from his usual black cloak and slacks. He looked beautiful and upon seeing your face he seemed to take a large chunk off his shoulders and almost become complacent.
"I apologize, Snape was sticking his abnormally large nose into my business yet again", Regulus quickly sat beside you and peered into the basket.
You felt a burst of adrenaline surge through you and it forced you to leap into Regulus's arms, happily laughing as he gave a loud 'oof' when you bowled him over with your weight. He gave a chortle and held onto you with a python-tight grip that incased you. He gazed up at the leaves rustling above you and sighed away every anxiety and pressure he had pushed onto himself.
You pulled back slowly, checking you didn't knock him as you picked up a thermostat you had carried down and poured you both a cup of mint herbal tea which Regulus watched with keen interest.
"A toast, to your tardiness", You smiled as you handed him his cup before he quickly brought it against your own and clashed them against each other to make a sweet chink.
"A toast to your patients, I was worried you would have left", He watched you take a sip first before he registered you were looking back at him and eagerly waiting for his own opinion about the steaming cup.
He blew a breath over the cup before taking an elegant sip, daintly wrapping his finger over the fragile china before he nodded.
"It is good, thank you", He thanked while you simply nodded, looking down at your own cup with a sad grin.
"Something tells me we won't be seeing each other for a while", You didn't want to dampen the party but you couldn't shake the fear. Regulus was intertwined with formidable friends who held very different ideologies of good and evil than you did and it left a bad taste in your mouth.
Regulus was suddenly silent. He looked down at his own cup, folding his legs below him as a bird flew past, twittering its song, completely unaware of the coupling below it.
"I cannot promise you I will see you again soon, but I can promise I want to, I want to see you again and perhaps that is enough", He placed the cup down and gazed out over the lake, the thoughts of you dancing through his thoughts.
"I cannot promise that when I see you again it will be under the same pretences", Your anger and fear rolled into one, it came out as a silent plea that you both knew couldn't be addressed less another argument plagued the only time you had alone.
Regulus turned and for a moment your breath caught, his face was lit up with white diamonds of sunlight that made him look ethereal. His face was so visible that you could see the few freckles which were subtly sprinkled sparingly over his nose. His face melted into an expression of sad puppy love which watched every feature of yours before he pulled up his collar and shook his head free of the longing wish he had to stay with you for eternity.
"Is our desire really so fickle that you would have me believe you could even entertain the idea of matching me in battle?" His voice was guarded but a tone of poison filled it. He had been shut out his whole life from love and he knew better than to let you in on the big secret. You were his weakness, his Achilles' ankle that could bring down armies if you were threatened. You two had hidden your relationship well but was it well enough?
"I will do whatever it takes for my cause and I rest well knowing you are of the same mind, if we were to come across each other in battle I wouldn't hesitate!" You could feel the anger overpower the fear as you sat up, your daydream was broken before your eyes like sea glass.
"Then you will forgive me for matching your promise", His eyes peeled down, another enemy was not what he wanted, and not if it was meant to be you but this outcome was inevitable. You were on the other side. It was better you leave before he had to carry out his orders.
"I have to hand it to you Regulus, I have never met any person so rich in the fortune of self-pity as you!" You stood up, kicking your tea cup with a great wind up which forced Regulus to duck as the cup went soaring over his head and back where he had first crawled from.
"I have never asked for this! I never asked for you to be with me! I have never once given you a strong indication of my courtship!" He stood up, chasing after you with his voice raised loudly. He didn't care who heard at this moment, he needed just a moment where he could speak the falsities he knew would end a long terrible time at the end of the year for you.
You sharply turned, eyes wild with rage as you shoved him backward, he took the brunt of the force in his chest and simply turned the side of his face to look along the trees instead of your teary face which tugged at his soul.
"You better hope this war kills one of us because I will never be here for you like this again, I will not be second place to your own masochist tendencies! I am worthy of much more than this and I was stupid to think you were ever better than you were! I hate you!" You wanted to slap him silly and throw every blasted bit of dirt in sight at him just for a reaction but he didn't move from his place.
His adam apple bobbed as he gulped, continuing to stare to the side as you loudly yelled nothing coherent at his face, trying to make him move or look at you naturally but he didn't budge. His eyesight was sturdy and for a moment you saw that this was who he really was. Regulus wasn't long hugs under summer skies he was a cold deferring shoulder when all you wanted was a kind word.
"I never minded being alone y'know, I was alright by myself!" You held out your arms while taking a step back as if you were praying to a god that could help you solve the strange enigma of Regulus Black.
You scoffed, stroking your cheek with your tongue as you shook your head. You stood in silence for a few more moments trying to process his sudden mood change but when you couldn't take it any longer you turned and walked back to the blanket, ready to grab your things and leave.
All he had to do was stay quiet and let you leave. All he had to do in order to save a great deal of heartbreak later in life was to stay quiet and stay still.
"I love you", He whispered quietly but you didn't hear a word of it as you packed up all your belongings and stormed off, cursing him from far off in the distance.
He finally turned and walked back up to where the blanket had been sitting a spell ago, he sat on the flattened grass and wiped desperately at his leaky nose and eyes which made him cry harder.

here’s Wolfstar being a couple of menaces and driving James up the wall while he’s trying to study (he’s only “studying” in the library in attempt to impress lily, so no harm done)
I’ve been hoarding a bunch of Marauders scribbles I’ll probably never clean up so expect more incoherent chaos

So I started college back up, might not be dishing out chapters as fast as I’d like. On that note, Chapter 8 of “The Phoenix Rises” is in the works (read “Charms of Fate” first if you’re interested). I’ll be dusting up my masterlist to make it look ✨prettier✨
If interested, I have requests open (mainly for Remus Lupin, since he’s my fixation at the moment) and the link is in my bio. I write for both young and older Remus, so don’t be shy to tell me which one you want me to write about.
Anywayyyyy check out my Masterlist if you’re new here and happy reading!

Text Me pt.4
Word count: 2,351
*******************************************************************************************
Y/N woke up at 5, allowing herself time to stretch and get ready for the hike. After washing her face, brushing her teeth, and getting dressed, she sent a group message to Sirius and Remus.
“i’m about to leave, you guys better be getting ready”
Y/N made her way to her parents room and knocked on the door before opening it a crack. “I’m headed to pick up Remus and his friend for the hike. We were thinking about going into town to show Sirius around after. Is that okay?” she asked. “I have a luncheon at noon, so I’ll need the car back before then,” Y/M/N replied. Y/F/N sat up in the bed before speaking up. “Have the car back to the house by 11 so your mother has plenty of time to get to her meeting,” he instructed. “Yes, sir,” Y/N nodded. “And be home by 11pm!” he called as Y/N made her way to close the door and exit the house.
Y/N made the short drive to Remus’s house, and sent the boys a text that she had arrived, rather than knocking on the door and waking Remus’s parents. A few moments later, Sirius and Remus appeared at the front door, Sirius with a spring in his step and Remus dragging his feet. “I can’t believe I let you lot talk me into getting up this early,” Remus groaned as he plopped into the passenger seat. “Shut up, we’re gonna have so much fun,” Y/N laughed. “Sirius, are you good to go?” She asked, glancing at him through the rear view mirror. “Let’s go see some dangerous mountain rabbits,” he grinned, earning a huff from Remus and a laugh from Y/N before she put the car in gear and started the drive to the mountain.
“Alright, everyone has water, keep your phones on you in case we get separated,” Y/N began running through her pre-hike checklist. “Yes, it’s early, you have lots of energy and you’re prepared for the apocalypse. Let’s get this over with,” Remus replied. “I’m just making sure our guest is prepared. But if everyone is ready, let’s go!” Y/N nearly leaped off the ground as the three of them made their way to the hiking trail. “Sirius, do you like to hike?” Y/N asked after a few minutes of silence. “I’ve actually never been. My family prefers indoor activities. They like to host dinner parties and go to galas and things like that,” Sirius shrugged.
“Dinner parties and galas?” Y/N raised an eyebrow. “Yeah, Sirius’s family is very wealthy,” Remus told her. “But don’t get excited, they’re assholes and they disowned me so unfortunately I will not be inviting anyone to this summer’s gala because I, myself, am not invited,” Sirius laughed. “Well, fuck ‘em. They sound like assholes,” Y/N shrugged. “You have no idea,” Sirius muttered. “You’d be surprised,” she replied bitterly, more to herself than to Sirius. “So, when will we see the animals that want to eat Remus?” Sirius asked. “Most of the time, the animals don’t come up to the trail, Remus just got lucky that day. But if you’re up for it, I could take you guys to one of my favorite spots that branch off from the trail?” Y/N offered. “Hell yeah!” Sirius exclaimed, looking to Remus. “Y/N if an animal actually eats me, I’m going to come back and ruin your life,” Remus threatened. “Deal,” Y/N grinned, “Follow me, the path is hidden right up here. Just walk slowly and try not to make any noise.”
Not long after they veered off of the trail, Sirius spotted a rabbit and whispered out to Y/N. “Y/N,” he said very quietly. “Very slowly turn back and to the right,” he told her, after snapping a quick picture on his phone. Y/N did as she was told and turned to spot the little bunny looking curiously at her. “Hey, little guy,” she murmured, trying to gauge it’s attitude. She took a very slow step toward it and the rabbit looked at her apprehensively, but didn’t move to flee. “Hey, buddy. You want to try something yummy?” she asked softly, before slowly reaching to her backpack and pulling out a ziplock bag of thinly sliced red bell pepper. “Y/N/N, why do you have a bag of sliced peppers?” Sirius asked as quietly as he could. “She likes to bring treats in case something like this happens and she can try to make a friend,” Remus answered. “Bunnies love bell peppers,” Y/N told them quietly, not taking her eyes off of the bunny.
“Here you go, little friend. Want to try some?” She cooed to the bunny, slowly squatting down so she was closer to the rabbit’s eye level. The bunny stared at her as it twitched it’s nose curiously. “There ya go,” Y/N gently tossed a slice closer to the bunny and it gave a little hop over to the pepper slice before sniffing it. After a moment, the bunny scooted forward a little bit more and began gnawing on the bright red fruit. All three of the teens stayed as still and quiet as they could, and when the bunny was almost finished with its slice, Y/N held out another piece, this time keeping it in her hand to try to get the rabbit to approach her. It took a moment, but the little creature couldn’t resist the treat and it carefully hopped over to her before nervously nibbling in the pepper in her hand. After feeding him a few more slices, Y/N was able to coax the bunny into sitting in her lap and letting her pet him.
“Y/N, you’re a bloody princess. Look at him, he’s enchanted,” Sirius stated in awe at the muggle snuggling a wild bunny. “It’s not enchantment, I wholeheartedly believe you can make anything like you with the right snacks,” Y/N shrugged with a chuckle. “I gave Remus the M&M’s out of my trail mix once and now he comes back to see me every summer.” Sirius laughed out loud as Remus protested, “You know, a little more went into this friendship than just the M&M’s.” “That’s right!” Sirius barked out another laugh, “She also saved your life!” “Ah, yes, we’re all having so much fun laughing at Remus’s expense,” Remus rolled his eyes, but couldn’t hold back the smile beginning to grow on his face.
“Hey Y/N/N, do you think I could get her in my lap?” Sirius asked quietly. Y/N turned her head to look at him, “What did you just call me?” she raised an eyebrow. “Y/N/N. I’ve decided it’s your nickname,” he shrugged. Y/N couldn’t help but smile. “I think I like it,” she told him. “Now come over here very slowly and quietly. once you’re next to me and still, I’m going to give you the peppers and see if she’ll want them enough that she goes to you,” Y/N explained. Sirius followed her instructions and before he knew it, the rabbit was cautiously climbing his leg. “This is so cool someone take a picture for my instagram!” he whispered excitedly.

After the rabbit encounter, the teenagers didn’t have much time left until they needed to leave, so they headed back to where the car was parked. “I’m really bummed that we can’t take you into town today,” Y/N told Sirius, glancing in the rear view mirror to see him. “I could ask my dad about the truck?” Remus offered from the passenger seat. “Worst he can say is no,” he shrugged. “Remus I envy you. Imagine ME asking MY DAD to borrow his truck,” Y/N couldn’t help but crack up at that. “No way,” she laughed. “Is your dad really protective of his truck or summat?” Sirius asked. He’d never been brave enough to ask her about her dad before and this felt like an intimate step to him, but Y/N just chuckled and said, ”Yeah, something like that.”
Y/N dropped the boys off back at Remus’s parents cabin and returned the car to Y/N’s mother at 10:50. By 11:02, there was a honk outside of the house and Y/N peeked out her window to see Remus’s dad’s truck in the driveway. “Remus and Sirius are here, and we’re gonna go into town for the day,” Y/N poked her head into her parents room. “I’ll be home by 11!” she hollered as she made her way to the front door. “I can’t believe your dad is letting you drive this thing!” Y/N exclaimed, climbing in the passenger seat and nudging Sirius over to the middle seat. “‘S just a car,” Remus shrugged with a smile and then pushed Sirius back toward Y/N. “The driver gets personal space,” Remus warned Sirius and Y/N. “Yeah, alright scooch on over here, Sirius. We’re gonna get to know each other a little better while mister sensitive enjoys his personal space,”Y/N instructed. Sirius scooted over until his arm and leg were pressed up against Y/N’s. Y/N’s heart started beating a little bit faster in that moment.
“So are we hungry? Do we want to eat now or later?” Y/N asked as Remus pulled into the town limits. “What do you want to do, love?” Remus asked her. “Well, I could eat right now, but I think I’d rather wait until Tony’s opens at 1. Do you guys want to see a movie and then get food?” Y/N offered. Sirius expected them to go back to Y/N’s house to watch a film, but Remus parked the truck on the side of the street and he and Y/N both got out of the car, so Sirius followed. They made their way down the street to a weird looking building with a double sided sign hanging out front. Y/N went ahead up to the counter while Sirius just stood, in awe of this little town she lived in. “Alright mate, we’re about to go inside and watch a film on the biggest screen you’ve ever seen. This is very normal for muggles so play it cool,” Remus quietly instructed him. “Big film. I’m cool,” Sirius repeated, nodding just as Y/N came back.
“Okay, I was going to see what was playing and take a group consensus but then I found out they’re playing JAWS this week, and I decided for all of us that we HAVE to watch it!” Y/N announced excitedly. “Tickets on me, Remus it’s your turns for snacks,” she said, handing each of the boys their ticket to the movie. “At least you picked a decent one this time,” Remus quipped at her, half hoping she would take the bait. She did. “Decent? DECENT?? Steven Spielberg is an absolute genius. What he did with this movie, and so many other movies is-“ Y/N was ready to keep going but Sirius cut her off. “Who is Steven Spielberg? Is he meeting up with us today too?” Sirius asked, Y/N laughed out loud, and Sirius wanted to know what he could do to get her to make that sound again. He really thought she sounded like an angel. “Steven Spielberg is the director of the movie, Sirius. You’re not big into movies are you?” she asked with another laugh. Sirius could only shake his head. He was entranced by her. “We’ll make a movie buff out of you, yet. Someday, you’ll be as snobby as Remus,” she grinned, nudging Remus with her elbow. “Let’s just get inside,” Remus chuckled, rolling his eyes.
Once inside, Remus bought his own snacks and offered to buy Y/N’s and Sirius’s but Sirius insisted on paying for Y/N’s snacks because “she bought his ticket and it was only fair he return the favor.” They settled on sharing a popcorn and a soda and each getting a candy, and then made their way to the theater. Y/N sat between the boys, holding the popcorn in her lap so it was accessible to everyone. Shortly after the teens got settled in their seats, the movie started. As the movie started, everyone dug into their snacks, Y/N and Sirius’s hands innocently grazing against one another. Shy glances passed between the two, unbeknownst to Remus who was immediately engrossed in the movie. At one jump scare, Y/N instinctively grasped Sirius’s hand, and he held onto hers tightly as well. Their fingers stayed intertwined through the rest of the movie.
“Okay that movie was great!” Sirius exclaimed as he burst through the doors out of the theater to the street. “I need a picture of this place for my instagram!” he decided, snapping a picture and posting it immediately.

“Y/N, who’s this person calling me “king” and why do I have a bunch of new followers?” Sirius asked as he put his phone away. “My friends probably saw you tag me in that post by the lake and followed you from there. That’s my friend Y/F/N from school, she’s really nice. she’ll hype up all of your posts,” Y/N laughed. “Ah yes, classic Y/F/N,” Remus mused. “Just because she thinks we’re in love doesn’t mean she’s not nice,” Y/N playfully rolled her eyes. “Oh,” Sirius raised an eyebrow. “None of my friends at school have guy friends as close as Remus and I so it’s a little difficult for them to understand our dynamic. But we no offense, I could never picture myself in love with you,” Y/N laughed, nudging Remus. “No offense taken because I feel the exact same way,” Remus grinned sarcastically before Y/N perked up. “Let’s go to Tony’s and get some pasta!” She exclaimed, grabbing both of the boys’ hands and pulling them toward the Italian restaurant.

Remus: May I?
Sirius (nodding)
Remus (leaning in closer to look at Sirius’ eyes): Your eyes have the most beautiful shade of grey I’ve ever seen
Sirius (laughing): It’s the centuries of inbreeding
Remus: Do you always make jokes when you’re nervous?
Sirius: Who said I was nervous?
Remus: Your face turning pink and the grin you’re fighting to hide gave it away.
Sirius: Yeah? Well I think you have the warmest shade of hazel brown in your eyes, almost like gold
Remus (laughing): Your eyes are like chips of silver starlight. My eyes are just plain brown.
Sirius (whispering with a smile): I don’t think there’s anything plain about you Remus Lupin
James (groaning): Oh fuck me gently with a chainsaw, this shit is too much for me. Can’t you two go be gay somewhere else?
