The Revival of Akillian: Chapter 11

Prologue / Chapter 10 / Chapter 12

11. SNOW KIDS VERSUS WAMBAS

Located on the edge of the marsh, the Jungle Stadium seems quite primitive from a distance: all in wood, poles and bamboo, covered with large hanging plants, crossed by a walkway formed from vines and flexible rods, accessible only by bridges of vines. Its technical tower, which supports the press and trainer pods, also made of wood, is adorned with a waterfall around which several plants flourish; curious decoration... but make no mistake: like all stadiums in the Galaxy, it is equipped by Technoid: synthetic memory turf filled with sensors, electromagnetic barriers, communication pods, referee terminals at high speeds, impact memory nets, exclusion pods, flying stretchers, giant holographic screens and so on…

In the dressing rooms, rustic but air-conditioned (a very attentive consideration from the Wambas for their guests, who have come from the cold), where a spherical screen suspended from a long bamboo pole shimmers, Aarch’s disconcerted team observe Thran, who is writhing in pain on the bench, hands on his stomach.

- Poor Thran, you really didn’t look at what was on your plate! - notes Micro-Ice.

- Please, don’t remind me… - Thran moans, pale and sweating.

- You have to be really stupid to eat that dirt! - criticizes Sinedd contemptuously.

- They invite us to eat, so we eat, it’s normal! - D’jok retorts. - It’s called politeness. Another thing you know nothing about!

- Tasting it was polite... oh... (Thran grimaces, doubled over) On the other hand, taking more was not a great idea!

- No way! How many times did you eat it?

He painfully raises three fingers.

- Well done, Thran! – scolds Rocket from the middle of the locker room. - You all heard Aarch: we absolutely have to win this match. And for that, we will need everyone!

- You think you can tell me what to do, new guy? - Sinedd barks. - Who do you think you are?

- Let it go, Sinedd! - warns D’jok.

- Thank you but it’s okay, I can defend myself. - assures Rocket.

He glares at Sinedd as if to say, “One more word and I’ll clobber you”, when Ahito wakes up with a start.

- I’ve got it! The Snow Kids!

They all stare at him, confused.

- What, weren’t you looking for a name for the team?

- Yeah, about two days ago! - Micro-Ice smirks. - You’re pretty quick on the uptake, Ahito!

- Yeah, the Snow Kids… I think it sounds good. You take Akillian… the snow, the sports… you put it together… you get the Snow Kids!

- Yeah… - muses D’jok. - It’s not bad at all. So who’s for?

All arms go up - even Thran, who manages to let go of his stomach. Only Sinedd does not participate in the vote.

- Me too, - says Aarch, who had just entered the locker room with Clamp.

- That’s fine with me, - approves the latter.

- You really like it? - Ahito is surprised, happy to have had a good idea.

- Yes, but a name alone is not enough. You also need...

-… beautiful brand-new football kits! - Clamp completes, his arms loaded with said jerseys.

- Oooh! Wow! Awesome!

He puts them on the table, and everyone rushes in to unfold their jerseys. They are blue and white, with two purple stripes on the arms, and the back is decorated with a large white number in a red circle. The same number is printed on the chest, but smaller, at the level of the heart.

- Awesome! – exclaims Ahito excitedly. - These are the same outfits that our players wore in Akillian’s heyday, can you imagine?

- It really does something to you… - sighs Micro-Ice, moved.

D’jok is quick to take off his T-shirt and put on the jersey.

- With this, we’re a real team now: the Snow Kids!

- That, we’ll judge on the pitch. - tempers Aarch.

While the Snow Kids rave about their outfits, Clamp, with a multi-function remote control, activates the spherical screen that displays a 3D football field.

- Alright! These will be your positions. - says Aarch. - Ahito in goal, Thran and Mei in defense, Tia and Rocket in midfield. Finally, the two strikers will be D’jok and Sinedd.

As he indicates each position, miniature figures of the mentioned players appear on the field.

- But what about me, sir? - asks Micro-Ice.

- You will be a substitute.

Sinedd laughs. Aarch turns to him.

- Something wrong, Sinedd?

- Ah! Uh, rhm… no no, nothing at all. Just something stuck in my throat… rh-rhm!

- But sir, I’m feeling on fire today, I swear! - Micro-Ice pleads. - Let me in and I’ll score three goals for you, minimum!

- Listen, Micro-Ice, being part of a team also means respecting the manager’s decisions. So, don’t argue!

- Yes, sir… - sighs Micro-Ice, lowering his head.

His disappointment is painful to see: for a moment, Mei could almost take pity on him.

On the pitch and under the burning sun, the waterfall which tumbles down from the top of the technical tower reveals all its usefulness: misted by a judicious ventilation system, it disperses a refreshing spray over the stadium, which prevents players - especially foreigners - from being overcome by the heat before the end of the first half. Another delicate consideration from the Wambas… with its large masts and canvas canopies, the entire stadium evokes a huge sailboat stranded in the middle of the jungle. A puzzling image, reinforced by the standard Technoid equipment: very incongruous in this natural setting, fixed among the wooden constructions using vines and ropes.

- Are you okay? - D’jok asks Thran, as the Snow Kids move to their respective positions.

- Yes, I feel better… hey! They are even more impressive in their outfits!

Team Wamba has just arrived on the pitch. With their large eyes, pointed ears, hands and feet with three clawed fingers, and slender body with fine and powerful musculature, they evoke the elves of ancient legends. Expressing fair play, they greet their young opponents with a small wave of the hand before taking their positions.

- Focus, kick off in a minute! – announces Aarch, leaning over his control screen in the pod reserved for him, where Clamp and Micro-Ice have also taken their places. The latter sulks, sitting on the floor in a corner. He doesn’t even want to see the game: he no longer cares. 5… 4… 3… 2… 1… 0, ticks the countdown on the monitors.

The ball bursts up from the centre, applauded by the crowd, composed mainly of Wambas. D’jok leaps up, but he is no match for Wouwambou, who starts out using the Roar. Haloed with golden sparks, he retrieves the ball in the air - his clawed foot grips it like a hand -, falls back smoothly on the field and whizzes past Tia and Rocket with a series of hyper-fast twirls.

Commenting on this game is Callie Mystic - she seems to have decided to follow the Snow Kids until the end of their journey:

- Let’s go! This is the first friendly game for Akillian’s new team, the Snow Kids. Immediate recovery of the ball by the Wambas, who lead their first offensive. Wouwambou directly evades Tia and Rocket thanks to his flux! He passes to Lun-Zaera who shoots - a shot blocked by a save from Ahito, the young Snow Kids goalkeeper, who immediately throws the ball to his brother Thran. Thran manages to dribble past two Wamba players and passes to Sinedd, Sinedd passes forward to Rocket, but it’s intercepted by the Wambas, who are on the attack!

Rocket, looking for Tia, does not see Lun-Zaera appear in front of him, shrouded in golden flames. He hesitates for a tenth of a second - enough for the fastest player in the Galaxy to steal the ball from him and storm the goal defended by Ahito, who this time has little time to sleep. Lun-Zaera comes across Mei on her way, who practically sticks to her and, with a skillful tackle, manages to deflect her shot: the ball ricochets against the upper bar of the goal. So much the better, because Ahito didn’t see it coming! His brother catches the ball on the fly, kicking it forward. The ball is picked up by a Wamba player perched on the technical bridge: an unconventional but authorized position, as long as his flux has allowed him to leap that far.

- What a game! - marvels Callie, who sees everything from multiple angles in the media pod. – This is far from a simple friendly match. The Wambas are not holding back, they’re imposing their rhythm in this game!

In a superb triple somersault, the Wamba sends the ball to the feet of a teammate marked by Rocket, who passes back to Lun-Zaera, who once again finds Mei in her way, managing to steal the ball from her this time. She passes to Sinedd, who takes advantage of a gap to attempt a forward breakaway, followed by an unmarked D’jok. Very quickly, Sinedd is stopped by two Wamba defenders, but instead of passing to D’jok, tries to dribble past them. He succeeds, only to be immediately tackled by a third who falls from the sky, taking the ball from him with a pirouette.

- What an idiot! – shouts D’jok, raising his arms to the sky.

- Oh dear, what’s going on? Sinedd seems to be refusing to collaborate with D’jok! – comments Callie. - Aarch will have to work on good cohesion in his team! Sinedd loses the ball, the Wambas quickly move up the field towards the opposing goal...

By a succession of highly acrobatic passes, the ball once again reaches the feet of Lun-Zaera, who whirls and shoots - once again, Ahito doesn’t see it coming: the ball is already in the net while he is still leaping.

- Goal!!! - Callie Mystic yells. - Taking advantage of a clumsy initiative from Sinedd, the Wambas have just scored the first goal!

Thunderous ovation from the crowd in the stands, who applaud as much this beautiful attack of their team as the heroic resistance of the young Akillians. In the pod, on the other hand, Aarch is not celebrating at all:

- What the hell are you waiting for? - he yells into his microphone. – Get the ball to Tia!

Each player, with an earpiece, receives the message loud and clear. Right off the throw, Rocket manages to snatch the ball away from an opponent and pass it to Tia on the other end of the field, in a beautiful, arced shot that draws a hum of admiration from the receiving player. Beset by Wouwambou, Tia has no other way out than to pass to Sinedd, who once again attempts a solo breakthrough. A Wamba tackles him, he dodges him with a jump and continues his charge, concentrated, ignoring his teammates - D’jok especially - who nevertheless signal to him. Good players, or wanting to give their goalkeeper a little work, the Wambas let him run...

- Sinedd is in possession of the ball again! - Callie comments. - He manages alone in front of the opposing goal, he shoots… what a masterful save by Bounzoff, the Wamba goalkeeper!

Despite his stoutness, he performs an acrobatic rear wheel kick in front of the net, magnified by a golden fire. The ball goes back to the middle of the field, miraculously intercepted by D’jok who immediately shoots - another save by Bounzoff, in an elegant somersault. Sinedd snatches the ball and shoots again - this time Bounzoff stops it with a hand. Spinning the ball on the tip of his big finger, he shakes a finger at the two breathless and crestfallen Snow Kids attackers.

- Bounzoff is certainly obstinate, - remarks Callie. - He has decided that today the ball will not go into his goal!

- What kind of play is that? - yells Aarch in front of his screen. – Are you playing football, or pinball?

The Wambas decide that this little interlude is over: from a very tight pass from Bounzoff to Wouwambou, they set out again. D’jok and Sinedd quickly retreat to the rescue of their defenders - overwhelmed by the dazzling attack of Wouwambou and Lun-Zaera, who exchange the ball at a remarkable speed, wiping out Tia and Rocket on the spot and confusing poor Thran, who does not know where to step. Sinedd then resorts to his treacherous blow which has done well on Micro-Ice: he dives forward and strikes the calf of Lun-Zaera, who flies into the air and falls on the lawn. Curiously, the terminal referees did not see the fault - perhaps they are rusty from the constant humidity... Wouwambou, who has already recovered the ball, performs a perilous leap over the Snow Kids defenders - the ball goes crashing into the net. Ahito didn’t have time to make the slightest movement to stop him.

- Gooooooal!!! - yells Callie Mystic. - Despite that foul from Sinedd that I thought I saw, but which the Wambas ignored!

- Sinedd, playing like this won’t get you anywhere! - Aarch shouts, pounding his fist on the table. - This goes for the rest of you too. Push forward, damn it!

- We could make a substitution, - suggests Clamp.

- Oh yeah, great idea! - Micro-Ice stands up.

- No, - Aarch refuses. - I want them to find their feet with this setup.

- Still, it was a good idea… - grumbles Micro-Ice, who sits down in his corner.

The match resumes. Rocket takes advantage of having recovered the ball (he does not quite know how) to pass to Tia while shouting at her:

- Go ahead, Tia! Try your luck!

She takes to the ball at her feet... the more she runs, the more she feels this fabulous energy invade her, electrify her, overflow in blue waves. Suddenly, the Wambas seem slower to her: she avoids one, jumps over a second who has attempted a slow tackle, then passes back to Rocket who, immediately after receiving the ball, shoots it back in a beautiful, twisted angle.

- What’s happening? - cries Callie in awe. - Tia seems to be using the Breath of Akillian, it’s incredible! As you can see, dear holo-spectators, it is indeed the Breath that was believed to have disappeared!

Two Wambas try to retrieve the ball in mid-flight, but Tia takes off in a column of blue lightning, followed by Wouwambou all in golden flames, who gazes at her in admiration - the Breath! She has the Breath! - then falls back, letting her shoot... again, Tia, who is nothing but crackling energy, feels her foot swinging off like a powerful pendulum, hitting the ball which shoots towards the Wambas’ goal. This time it is Bounzoff who isn’t fast enough: despite his lightning reflexes, the ball sinks into the net in a splendid shot.

- It’s a gooooal!!! – exclaims Callie Mystic. - The first goal of the young Snow Kids against the skillful Wambas, thanks to a fantastic shot from Tia boosted by the Breath of Akillian! What a feeling, dear holo-spectators!

Delirium in the stands: the audience cheers this goal as if it were their favorite team that had scored it. So are the Wambas...

The Snow Kids jump around, clapping each other on the shoulder and hugging each other. Rocket would love to kiss Tia but he doesn’t dare, and just hugs her briefly - she pulls away immediately. Only Mei and Sinedd do not share the general enthusiasm: both are jealous - for different reasons.

- Woah!! - Micro-Ice also jumps to his feet, after seeing the nice slow-motion action on Clamp’s monitor.

- There! This is exactly how you should be playing! – Aarch finally rejoices.

- The Snow Kids are back in the match, revived at 2-1 after a spectacular goal from Tia, their young prodigy! - declares Callie Mystic.

To resume play, Rocket decides on his own to place Tia as the third attacker. Receiving no comment from Aarch in his earpiece, he assumes that decision is correct. Tia therefore finds herself facing Wouwambou, who looks at her strangely. He is in the grip of a painful internal conflict: on the one hand, a new respect for this player who masters her flux so well, on the other this “contract” with Artegor Nexus, which he must honor... he closes his eyes and clenches his fists. He would like to be a thousand miles from here, still sick on Akillian... and to never have met Artegor Nexus.

The ball shoots up from the center and the match resumes. Very fast, very physical, very acrobatic: this time the Wambas are no longer laughing, they know that they have at least one challenging opponent ahead of them.

- Tia has already recovered the ball and is moving up the field at high speed, she dodges all her Wamba opponents, it’s incredible! - Callie exclaims in wonder.

In fact, this battle comes down rather to a duel between Tia and Rocket on the one hand, Wouwambou and Lun-Zaera on the other, the rest of the players being reduced to the role of extras. Using the Breath sparingly but with unmatched precision, Tia intercepts balls from her adversaries and controls those sent to her by Rocket, who, even if he does not have the Breath, has precision in his shots down to the millimeter. Callie Mystic notices:

- Tia seems unstoppable! Thanks to a one-two with Rocket who returns the ball to her with pinpoint accuracy, she reaches the Wamba penalty area. She is caught by Wouwambou who rushes towards her, also boosted by the Roar…

As Tia takes off for her famous cannon shot, Wouwambou also tears himself off the ground… he hits Tia on the fly, at full power, at full speed. The shock of the two bodies “doped” by their respective fluxes is equivalent, on scale, to an airplane crash in the air. Both crash to the ground, devastated.

- Foul!!! - shouts Callie Mystic. – An unfathomable foul from Wouwambou, captain of the Wambas, renowned for his fair play! What happened to him?

Wouwambou, more solid and muscular than Tia, is just stunned and gets up quickly. Tia, she remains unconscious...

The two teams come running, alarmed. Rocket exchanges a look with Lun-Zaera, from which he reads a reflection of his own dismay. Angrily, D’jok approaches Wouwambou, but is blocked off by Bounzoff who snaps at his confused captain:

- What’s going on?! What’s the matter with you?

- I… I think I had trouble controlling my strength. I am sorry…

The Wambas do not know how to lie, and there is some truth to Wouwambou’s words: this is not how he intended to eliminate Tia; he just wanted to stop her relentless attack, so the Wambas wouldn’t be ridiculed by this newbie kid. He hadn’t thought Tia’s Breath was so powerful, hadn’t calculated that within him the Roar was at its peak, swollen with anguish over his dilemma. Indeed, he didn’t consider any of this... it was unquestionably a foul. A serious foul.

Resigned, he lets himself be taken by the exclusion pod, which will suspend him for five minutes ten meters above the ground. Through its glowing walls, he watches the flying stretcher carry Tia into the locker room... in any case, he feels he has accomplished his mission, to be even with Artegor Nexus. He wishes with all his heart that Tia, this little prodigy, will recover quickly from her injury...

The gong (a real gong, struck by a lavender-dressed servant) strikes half-time, which is timely. The entire Snow Kids team is in the locker room around Tia, still unconscious. Rocket leans over her and strokes her hair...

- Stand back! – orders Clamp. – Give her some space!

D’jok paces up and down, his anger still with him since Bounzoff had prevented him from telling Wouwambou exactly what he thought of him.

- Seriously, I can’t believe it! Such a serious foul in a friendly match, I find that disgraceful, right, sir?!

- Right now, D’jok, our main challenge is to find a way to heal Tia. Without her, the Snow Kids are no more, you understand?

- Don’t worry, I’ll get her back on her feet. - intervenes Dame Simbai, who appears at the locker room door. She walks over to Tia, carrying a bag of herbs and potions over her shoulder. - Dealing with a shock between fluxes is kind of my specialty, isn’t it, Aarch?

- Simbai, you are a blessing. - he smiles, reassured.

Robin Hood episode ranking part 5 (10-1)

Finally, the top 10 of my Robin Hood episode ranking. The previous parts can be found here [link]. If you’ve enjoyed and/or hated my commentary or want to chime in with your own opinion, feel free to comment or send me an ask. So here it is, the top 10:

10. 3x4 – Sins of the Father

Watch 1x6 and then this one right after and tell me these aren’t the same episode. I fought so hard to get this episode to the top 10. At first I was shocked to find an episode in season 3 that I enjoyed this much, but here we are. This episode has the fun feeling of adventure that a lot of season 2 has. I didn’t remember much from this episode before my rewatch, and I was pleasantly surprised. Kate had a lot of potential at this point, and I don’t have much to complain about her besides her terrible braid. Tuck was a great therapist, and I enjoyed his scene with Edmund. The reason why I think this episode is a better version of 1x6 is because of the story of the guest characters. The biggest negative thing in this episode is the Much-Kate-Allan love triangle. But aside from that, I truly enjoyed this episode, and I don’t care what anyone thinks, this belongs in my top 10.

9. 2x7 – Show Me The Money

Marian finding out about her father’s death is one of the saddest things in the whole series. Allan and Robin’s fight is also amazing. Those two things are the highlights of this episode, and together with everything else in this episode they make this a great and fun adventure. Allan works so well as a bad guy, and it’s almost a shame he didn’t get to do this longer. I don’t have a lot to say about this episode other than that I really like it.

8. 1x4 – Parent Hood

In this episode we see for the first time someone dying for Robin. The episode is just very solid, and I originally had this on the number 5 spot on this list. The scene with Roy and his mother is heartbreaking. In this episode the Sheriff is finally becoming the unapologetic villain I love. I wish the fact that Gisborne had a bastard child he almost got killed had been brought up later on. Overall, this episode has always been one of my favorites, and it is the first one from season 1 I included in my rewatch.

7. 2x11 – Treasure of the Nation

I loved Prince John, so of course I’m going to love his mother. The queen is a delightful guest character, and she steals any scene she’s in. The real reason why this episode is this high on the list is Marian’s plotline. I love her and Allan’s interactions in this episode, and it’s great to get the Nightwatchman back after such a long time. It’s a shame that she had to give that role up, because as I said earlier, this is where a part of her character died. This episode also inspired us to have a conversation about how everyone would act like in an escape room, so it gets a few points for that.

6. 2x10 – Walkabout

I want to watch a play that is written, directed, and acted by the Sheriff. He is so wonderfully dramatic in this. Unlike in the season 3 finale, in this episode the idea of Nottingham being threatened is executed a lot better. I like how Allan tries to keep every option open for himself. The scene where Much finds out about Robin and Marian’s engagement is so sweet and touching. (In case you haven’t figured it out yet, I love Much and want happiness for him.) This episode also highlights well the differences between how each of the characters approach their cause. It’s obvious that John just wants to do good, but he is unable to view the larger picture. This episode has the right amount of tension, and with a little bit of tweaking, it could have been made into a two-part season finale.

5. 1x7 – Brothers in Arms

When we were watching this episode, my friend was so tired that after the episode finished, I had to answer the question “Wait, was one of them Allan’s brother?”. This episode is the first one where the heroes truly fail, and even though they manage to just save Marian, she still ends up engaged to Gisborne. The scene with Allan and Djaq (and Will, because even though he doesn’t speak, he’s there, and it says a lot about their dynamic) is sweet, and it adds a lot to her character. The necklace storyline is intense and keeps the story interesting until the very end. I had not expected this to end up being the best episode of season 1, but then again, there were many surprises when I was making this list.

4. 2x12 – A Good Day to Die

I love this episode. It’s rare to get an episode where the characters just sit down and talk about their feelings. Allan has his small crisis and ends up switching sides. It’s also great to once more see someone punch him in the face. I love the scene where the Sheriff is practicing his speech like any good villain. Will and Djaq are cute, even if their scene is very cheesy. I wish they had gotten together a few episodes earlier or stuck around for season 3, so that we could have seen more of them together and how it affects the rest of the gang. The highlight of this episode, however, is Much’s speech. The line “just because I love you doesn’t mean I can’t hate you too” is one of my favorite lines in the whole series. It’s a shame that Much gets sidelined in season 3. The characters have to face each other and themselves, and it makes this episode stand out.

3. 2x9 – Lardner’s Ring

I love this episode. It’s the best fun adventure episode this series has to offer. The Fool is a wonderful guest character. Where did he come from? What are his motives? It doesn’t matter, he’s here for comedy and chaos. He’s living my ideal life. Robin’s proposal is very in-character and sweet. There’s so much comedy in this episode, but it doesn’t overshadow the more serious scenes. This episode provided us with a great and frequently used “I hope you’re enjoying it, Allan. I couldn’t live with myself if I were you” WhatsApp-sticker (the line may not be completely accurate since I don’t remember how it goes in English). This episode has everything I could want from a Robin Hood -episode. The only reason why it is not on the first or second place is that there are two episodes that are even better.

2. 2x5 – Ducking and Diving

No placement in this list was as difficult to determine as deciding between the first and second place. After a very long conversation and going back and forth with it many times, this is the end result. Ducking and Diving is a perfect episode. Trying to find the spy is like a round of Among Us. Allan’s conversation with Djaq and final confrontation with Robin are amazing scenes. Robin’s plan of making it seem like the spy is Will confused me back when I first watched the episode, but looking at it now, it’s one of Robin’s better plans. Matilda is also one of the greatest guest characters this show has, I would watch a whole show about just her life. Everything in this episode ties together nicely, and the plot works both in the context of this episode and for the whole series.

1. 2x4 – Angel of Death

If I could only show one episode of this show to someone in order to convince them to watch the entire series, I would show them Angel of Death. And it is exactly what I did when we started this very chaotic viewing (and rewatch for me). This episode has everything. The plot is amazing, and the characters work well. Joseph is a good character. He reminds me of an academic who is really passionate about one thing in his field, only to find out someone has done research on his thesis topic and disproved his whole theory. I like that John is the one to come up with the cure for the poison. But really, Will is the character that shines in this episode. He didn’t get an episode for himself in season 1, so it’s good to see it happen here. He flips completely after seeing his father die, and even though Luke doesn’t get a lot of time in this episode, the relationship between the brothers is portrayed well. Allan’s betrayal also gets a body count, which sets up him having to be unmasked in the following episode. On top of all this, the sheriff is just plain evil, which is fun to watch. This episode is just perfect, and at this point I’ve seen it at least three times in the past few months, and I would still watch it again.

So there we go, the full ranking of all RH episodes. This rewatch was my favorite so far, because I got to watch the show with someone who had never seen it before. I’d like to thank anyone who read this 6000-word essay on a show that ended well over a decade ago. You didn’t need to, but you did anyway.

People With RH Negative Blood Are Special And Have Characteristics That Are Just Different.

Most humans have RH positive blood, meaning they carry a gene originating from the rhesus monkey. Humans are believed to have evolved from a similar ancestor.

But 10-15% of people do not carry this gene, which means there is a small number of people on the planet who are RH negative. Such people lack not only that rhesus monkey gene but the proteins that come with it as well.

Who knew that four little words could inspire such competitiveness? You certainly didn’t when you said them jokingly one night in the Batcave right before patrol.

“Hey, guys,” You called. “The floor is lava.”

Faster than the blink of an eye, Tim was standing on top of his chair, Dick was clinging to a stalagmite, Jason was on top of a cot, and Damian was sitting on Bruce’s lap, looking both embarrassed and livid.

You laughed at the shocked expression on Bruce’s face and the boy’s willingness to rise to the challenge.

Ever since that night, the boys became obsessed with the game. They were determined to find out which one of them was the Floor Lava Champion, and they asked you to play with them.

Figuring “What’s the harm?” you agreed, which in hindsight, might not have been the best idea.

Nothing was off limits; someone could call it out anywhere, at any time as long as all of you were present. It happened most often on patrol, or when you were all hanging out at the Manor.

In this instance, you were at a gala with the boys when above the chatter and music, you heard one of the boys yell “THE FLOOR IS LAVA!”

Desperately looking around, you saw Jason and Tim standing on the buffet table, and you thought you saw Dick hanging on the balcony. Damian was nowhere in sight.

You knew you only had a second to find high ground. The tables were too far away so, composing and apology in your head, you hopped onto Bruce piggyback style. Luckily you had chosen a loose fitting dress that night.

Bruce stumbled, nearly throwing you off but you wrapped your arms around his neck to hold on.

After counting to 3 in your head, you slid down to the ground and faced Bruce with your best 'I'm innocent' smile.

"Hey, Bruce. Great party." You said before dashing off into the crowd, laughing at the stunned expressions on the guests faces.

Bruce banned the game after that. But what he didn't know wouldn't hurt him...

At first, it’s the little things. Things like him saying “oh, Jeff called. Needs me to go over and finalize a few things for the tour.” Kissing you deeply and leaving. And then as the excuses become more frequent, they become less believable. Soon he starts coming home in the early hours of the morning, saying he was out with Mitch and Adam. You knew that Adam and Emi were in Positano for the week celebrating their anniversary; and Sarah had sent you a photo of Mitch passed out on the couch with their dog much earlier in the evening.

Being out wasn’t the lie, you knew that much, but rather who he was out with. He came home smelling like a woman. One who wasn’t you. He smelled of cheap Juicy Couture, rather than your signature Gucci Bloom. Judging by the lipstick stain on his white collar, this woman also favoured a shade of red that you despised — MAC’s Ruby Woo.

Rather than confronting Harry about his obvious lie and the evidence of his infidelity, you shut off the bedside lamp and rolled back over to sleep.

“I love you, my queen.” He whispered, crawling into bed behind you. Yet, his attempts to cuddle you were futile. Even the thought of being in his embrace after some other woman had so obviously been in this position only moments ago, made you want to vomit. So, without a word, you made your way to the guest room across the house, but he didn’t follow. All night you laid awake concocting your plan. Tonight was the last straw. You wanted out — before this relationship became any more toxic.

Harry was a sound sleeper. You could literally bang pots and pans in his ear and he wouldn’t even stir. So, when you woke in the morning, you raided your wardrobe and bathroom, taking everything your bags could hold. Leaving only one thing behind— your set of wedding rings on his bedside table. What a rude awakening it would be.

You could say that H had a bit of a sixth sense when it came to you. When he woke up he could tell that something wasn’t right - and it wasn’t just the massive hangover. He knew that you had changed rooms last night, as a way of punishing him for coming home late, and drunk - again.

He certainly didn’t think you saw the state that he was in last night. He also didn’t think that you would leave without confronting him. Leaving just wasn’t your style. So, for him to wake up and not even sense your presence in the house was beyond foreign to him. It almost physically pained him not to have you near. He’d barely gone 6 years without having you around in some way. You met when you were 17, and he was 18. Your mother was 1D’s tour photographer and you were traveling with her for the summer during the TMH era. You and Harry had hit it off instantly. He asked you out at the end of that summer, and he proposed 3 years later. It was the happiest day of your lives, until it was surpassed only by your wedding day.

You also followed in your mother’s footsteps, becoming a photographer and accompanying H on his most recent adventure as a solo artist. He loved having you around. Sharing in and capturing every one of his new milestones. You were what kept him grounded; you always had been. Never letting the fame or wealth get to him. If you were to ask him what went wrong, he would simply say “it was the pressure.” To perform,to reinvent his sound, his look, to be liked and to still be him. The husband, friend and son that he was before he went solo.

These other girls were just an outlet. A release from all the pressures of life. It wasn’t until he woke, that he realized the consequences of his careless actions. When he saw your engagement and wedding rings on his night stand, mixed with the inability to sense your presence he knew. You knew and you were gone. In that moment, Harry felt as if his heart was going to fall out of his chest. A roaring sob ripped past his lips, accompanied by a scream of your name - but you would never hear it. You were halfway across the city at Sarah and Mitch’s house crying on her lap. As soon as you could pull yourself together long enough to tell anyone other than the two of them what had happened, you would call a lawyer.

You had only recently noticed a change in his behaviour when he started going out more and coming home later and later. Though you never suspected he was cheating. That was just so unlike him. You thought he was happy if there was any reason for him not to be, he never spoke of it. You always gave him space if he needed it, you never questioned his actions. You thought you always made sure he knew how much you loved him. But apparently, love wasn’t enough. He needed to find validation elsewhere.

Though, if you asked Harry, validation or praise was the farthest thing from his mind when he was hooking up with these women. In fact, he never even bothered to learn their names, the only name to ever leave his lips when he was inside of any woman was Y/N. Only Y/N. The women didn’t seem to care, either. They were just happy to fuck Harry Styles, and maybe to use it against him in the future. Though his wife beat him to it.

When you got up the courage to finally speak to a lawyer, you opted to do it on the phone. For you couldn’t bare the embarrassment of anyone seeing you in your current state. Your hair was dishevelled, your face blotchy and your mascara was running. Sarah held your hand as you spoke with the lawyer on the other line. Your voice was strong, it did not waiver, you had no tears left to shed, but your throat was raw and your heart was broken.

The lawyer said he could serve Harry with the papers by noon the next day and hopefully, with his cooperation the divorce could be finalized within the month. The two of you didn’t have a prenup, as you never thought you would need one, but you weren’t asking for anything. You wanted as little to do with Harry as possible. You made good money and your car was paid for. You just wanted out of this marriage. It should be easy enough. Especially considering you had no pets or children to account for. There was nothing but a legal document keeping the two of you together now.

When Harry received the papers he lost it. He had gone through all 5 stages of grief in the week leading up to the divorce proceedings. First, he denied that it was even happening. Those weren’t divorce papers, they couldn’t be. You two were happy as ever. Things were going great. Then, came the anger. First it was directed at you for leaving, and even considering ending your marriage. Then he was angry at himself for being the reason his marriage was ending— if he could have just kept his dick in his pants and talked about how he was feeling, none of this would be happening. Next, was bargaining. First he bargained with God, praying and promising that he would be faithful and honest from that day on. After that, he called you. Leaving voicemail after voicemail and text after text. Telling you that everything was a mistake and that he would do anything to get you back and keep you. You sent him a simple text saying: I’ll see you at 13:00 on Friday at the lawyer’s office.

That’s the response that sent him into a deep, momentary depression, staying in bed a full day and missing his studio session. That’s when Mitch told him to pull his head out of his ass. After all, this whole situation was his fault, so he needed to man up and deal with it. Thus, bringing about his acceptance of the situation. It was that Friday that Harry learned to accept his fate, and not make this situation anymore painful than it needed to be for either of you.

Harry literally bumped into you as you walked into the conference room at the law office. Looking up to see who you ran into, you caught your first glimpse of him in a week. He looked awful. His eyes were sunken, and bloodshot. It looked as though he had the same jeans on that he wore to the bar the night you found out he cheated. He also had on your oversized Beatles t-shirt. Looking up at him, you spoke.

“Is that my...”

“It smells like you.” He replied, cutting you off before you could finish.

Before you could respond again, Dan, your lawyer, came to the door. “Y/N, Harry, we’re ready for you.” He said, motioning for you both to have a seat at the table. Neither you, nor Harry spoke a word as your respective lawyers went over the terms and agreements of the divorce proceedings. It was only after you had signed and initialed on the designated lines and passed them off to Harry that he looked at you with his teary, bloodshot eyes and asked,

“Are you sure this is what you want, Y/N?” His voice cracking and tears trailing down his cheeks as the pen shook in his hand. You nodded, but said nothing, so he signed the papers. Just as he signed the final “s” in “Styles” on the very last page, you emptied to contents of your stomach onto the tile floor.

Lovecraft au (mistakes)

N/A: this idea is practically writing itself. Human Kitty and Lovecraft Kurt.

In all honesty, being petite comes with some advantages, such as people won´t really believe your own age, hence why Kitty can wear such outfit and no one will think is not fit for her age.

The disadvantage of being such petite is how the X-men often prefer to use the petite one as bait and Kitty while being a formidable X-men and a great RH between humans and mutants, is forced to wear the red hood and be akin to a lovely character from a fairytale.

I look silly. She thought to look at her vestment. A red hood, and to top of all, a skirt that is a copy of all Little Red Hood.

Ah, is the image of innocence, Katzchen, a good look for you. It answers mentally and Kitty can´t see him, no shadow figure, and maybe, Kitty would prefer this(not really, is better to just see him, if that´s indeed a better outcome)

"Yeah, I guess, " Kitty won´t enter in details, sure enough, the Little red hood must be real and it was the wolf. "Do you think we´ll find the magical stone" Kitty speaks having little effort to hide her blase attitude, magic items and Kitty don´t go well together "and be back home in one piece?"

Of course, I saw it and you and your team will be fine, no monsters this time. It promised and Kitty would like to believe the mission will be easy.

Oh, you can use this opportunity to do more Herald activities, spread my word, mein liebes. It replied and Kitty can finally feel where he´s. He´s with her underneath the red hood.

Scott is preparing some of the supplies for the mission, they will come to an island, one that is inhabited by magical users and Scott does not want to make enemies.

"Kitty!" Scott greets "you look adorable" Kitty flip him off and Scott laughs "but seriously, you had to wear this outfit, we don´t want to offended people that may be allies in the future"

Kitty sighs and sees his logical, yet, she does not like to be such a doll. Scott asked if Nightcrawler is here, Kitty mentions to the red hood and Scott sighs dejectedly.

"He´ll come too, no matter what, but, I think this time will be a little better than the last time" Kitty mentions and explains she set some boundaries, Scott is dubious, but, if IT wants to have fun it would make sense for him to set some rules or follow her...in the end, IT could eat and do much worse...so far nothing of sort happens(not that people are happy IT is here)

"I´d trust you" Scott speaks and leaves as the mission is about to set and Scott will have to deal with IT like everyone else. Kitty is IT´s favourite, but, the others not so much.

Kitty is eating a bar of chocolate and offers a piece to the deity that is lurking on the shadows of her own hood. "It´s without nuts" Kitty offers and IT is too polite and friendly with Kitty, thanking her for the offer, even go as farther as accept a piece. It would be an innocent moment, except.

"Danke, Mein Leibes, Ich haben essen Fleisch" IT replied merrily and Kitty remember once again IT eats humans.

The mages, wizards and witches look at the X-men with distrust, thankfully, no hostility yet. Scott speaks and informs about the situation and the magical item, the people is unmoving.

And Kitty can see why, she recognizes the symbol they pledge, the symbol they respect and fear in equal amount, so, Kitty decides to act as his Herald.

" I´m Shadowcat and I´m here on a mission" she speaks with the same confidence as she did when won her first Grammy(it was such a moment for you Katzchen, love the speech/ thank you) and the people finally react to her words, the reaction was not what she was expecting. "I bring fury, pest, war and insanity if you don´t head my words"

(Ah, didn´t you win a Grammy for making a song about how you want to fuck an abomination?/No, that was a theory/Is ok, Katzchen, is ok. I won´t tell anyone)

They all pale and get on their knees as Kitty didn´t finish her speech. They are under her command.

(Well, imagine if you sing ''where we go to die" now that would be interesting/One, why you think every song I made is about you/Katzchen, I didn´t think that song was about me)

The magical item was restored and Kitty is talking with Nightcrawler about what to do, she would rather destroy the item, Pheonix thought it was wise, however, Nightcrawler has other ideas. And in their mind link, Kitty can see some of his masks. The fuzzy and blue one is her favourite.

"I´d think the item would be safer with you. Besides, consider this as a reward, you´re doing a great job as my Herald"

"Really?"

"Yes" and Nightcrawler offers a piece of chocolate for Kitty, promising it has no nuts. She accepts and Nightcrawler looks fondly at the scene.

"I´d think I can keep the item" Kitty confirms.

"Ist Gut, now, what you think of this faction?"

"Oh, they´re a bit weird."

The elder man looks at Kitty Pryde with respect and fear that the woman can´t forget. The man kneeling on the floor and speaks to Kitty with terror laced in his voice.

"Black Pharaoh, we did your bidding" Kitty blinks and looks around and saw no one but them. "Please, spare us from your wrath"

Kitty blinks again. It is only laugh amused.

Wait, they thought I was you this entire time?/pretty much/I´ll tell them it was a misunderstanding/ Ok, be my guest)

"Sir, I´m not Nya.." she stops speaking IT´s name as the man shivers, then Kitty tries again "I´m not IT, I´m just his Herald"

The man does not believe and is praying again and again. Kitty has no idea what to do.

"I´m not IT, I´m just his Herald"

The man continues to pray and Kitty let him be.

The item was located and Kitty is taking care of it, maybe, is the fact she´s his Herald that allows Kitty to use and touch such item, either way, only Kitty is with the item.

The people are asking if Kitty is pleased with them.

"Yes, I´m you all did well, all of you,so...no one will be eaten" Kitty promised and It is laughing amused (oh, right you can do much worse than that/Of course, Katzchen, are you really satisfied with them? Don´t be afraid of telling me the truth)

"I suppose you can´t ever notice or spot the difference among a mask and a face and that´s why IT´s so good on what it does, for the last time, I´m not IT, yet, IT is here and watch all of you. So, he´s amused by such stupid mistake" Kitty offers and Nightcrawler materialized next to Kitty, who is amused at his Herald.

The people are shiver in fear and Nightcrawler is not giving attention to them, far more entertaining in speaking with Kitty as she is holding the magical item.

"Didn´t I tell you? it was a simple mission and everyone is alive" he smiles amused at his little red hood, and, his little red hood nods and is holding the magical item.

Your heels clacked against the floor as you walked towards the kitchen where the lights were on.

You arrived just in time to witness Dick, already suited up, stuffing a piece of pizza into his mouth.

‘This can’t end well’ you thought as you brushed the skirt of your dress clean. You watched some cheese drip down onto Dick’s white dress shirt in slow motion.

“Shoot.” He said, mouth full.

I knew it.

“Watch your fucking language, Dickhead!” Jason’s voice boomed from behind you and you jumped in surprise. “There are fucking children here.” He said, covering your ears and you slapped them away.

Then he pointed at Damian. “Except you. I’m not even sure if you age like a human”

“Watch it, Todd.” The youngest Wayne growled, and you saw Dick slowly push the katana down that Damian had suddenly pulled up from nowhere.

“Guys, Alfred won’t be happy if you start this in the kitchen. He has no time to clean up blood again before the guests arrive.”

“Again?” you asked yourself silently in confusion, but you didn’t care to ask aloud. You were tired and hungry.

“Hey, can I have some pizza too?” you immediately asked as you saw the carton on the table. You sat on the stool as you took one, which Jason slapped out of your hand immediately.

“Respect your elders.” He said before he picked the piece up that fell onto the carton. You rolled your eyes. He just wanted to have the one with the most cheese. Asshole.

“Where’s Bruce?” you asked, ignoring him and picking up another piece. Nobody could destroy your mood when there was food involved but it seemed like they all seriously tried.

“Talking with Drake about his irrelevance.” Damian had said, his katana on the kitchen counter.

“Bruce is not irrelevant.” You said, tiredly, which earned you only a click of his tongue. He knew that you understood what he meant but he dropped it, much to your surprise. At least now you knew why Tim wasn’t in his room after you got out of the shower.

“What about Steph and Cass?” you took a bite of your pizza. You looked up at the three of them. Seeing them all in suits was almost unnerving.

“The hell should we know? Do you think we have everyone in this house microchipped?” Jason asked, and you smiled.

“No, I KNOW that you have each other microchipped.” You simply said and none of them even tried to deny it as they looked away.

“Seriously? You do?” Jason looked at his brothers in surprise. “What the hell??”

“I think they are getting ready.” Dick had said while ignoring Jason, and you watched him rub the stain on his suit with a napkin, which didn’t make it worse but didn’t help at all either.

“This is stupid. Fathers presence isn’t even necessary for this event.” Damian had finally said and strangely enough, it was one of the rare moment in which he actually looked a child with his crossed arms and the frown on his face.

“Uhm… He’s the host? I don’t know, I think it’s kind of necessary to attend the party one has organized. Also, it's for charity.” You said before Jason interjected.

“He even got me to attend so suck it up, gremlin. You’re nothing special.”

In one moment you had enjoyed the delicious pizza in your mouth and in the next you saw Damian leap over the counter and straight at Jason, who only cursed under his breath before you heard them collide on the floor.

“Oh.” you said.

“I think I need to put on a new shirt.” Dich sighed, and you looked at him in disbelieve. That was his priority?

“(Y/N)? Where- oh hey.” Tim entered the kitchen, catching you trying to pry Damian off of Jason. Or rather trying to pry Jason off of Damian? You weren’t sure which on it was as Jason had Damian in a headlock and Damian was biting Jason’s exposed arm, drawing blood.

A sight that was all too familiar.

“Oh, pizza.” he only said, looking away from you before taking a slice.

“Tim! Could you help me a little here??” you asked and he only looked at the position you were in, considering it for a second. Was it worth getting involved? He probably should take a picture.

Suddenly both boys got out of your grasp and continued their battle. You even heard fabric rip but decided to let it go and return to your food.

“Thanks for nothing.” You said, blowing a stray strand of hair out of your face.

“Mhm, you’re welcome.” He said before handing you a glass of juice which you accepted hesitantly with a side eye.

“Why do you still even bother?” Tim asked and you shrugged.

“Geez I don’t know, maybe because I don’t want to see them kill each other?” you had said sarcastically and shot Tim a warning glance to choose his next words carefully.

“It’s best to just let them fight it out sometimes.” Dick said, coming back with his new shirt on.

“Lets out their energy before the party.” He added.

“I just don’t understand.” You took a sip of your juice, hearing gunshots in the distance. “Like, would you watch me physically fight my siblings?” you asked your boyfriend.

He seriously thought about it for a moment.

“No, but that is different. I care about you.” Tim said.

Dick gasped. “Does that mean you don’t care about us?”

Tim looked him dead in the eyes.

“I have and I will sell you all for a cup of coffee if given the opportunity.” He said and you chuckled.

“Wait, when did you-“ Dick started but Tim interrupted. “Don’t ask.”

“Even me?” you wondered out loud.

“Except you.” He pressed a kiss on the top of your head as he walked past you.

“I’m seriously concerned about what you just sai-“ Dick started again only for all of you to stop in your tracks when you heard Bruce’s voice boom through the halls

“What are you two DOING?”

Jason and Damian’s fighting had stopped.

All three of you looked at each other.

“We were never here.” Dick said, grabbing the pizza carton.

“Yupp.” Tim said, grabbing your free hand as you all scrambled and left the kitchen, leaving no evidence of your presence behind.

A waiter glides past me extravagantly, a silver tray of flutes in his hand. With my previous thought in mind (”I need a fucking drink.”), I snag one of the glasses from a different waiter passing. Champagne seems to swirl in the flute, the bubbles floating towards the top. As I scan the room, my eyes fall on my father at the bar, downing his - what I'm guessing - alcoholic beverage, like it is his business.

With a heavy sigh, I stalk over to one of the tall tables and place the elegant flute down. No alcohol for me, cause it looks like I'll be driving tonight. I hate being the responsible one.

"Not your scene?" A voice speaks up behind me. I gasp softly out of shock and whip around. Oh damn. The young man chuckles softly. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you." The stranger is attractive, very attractive at that. Wide shoulders, strong jawline, black hair (except a couple strands of white), boyish charm and smirk - the whole nine yards. But probably my favorite? His electrifying, bright, green eyes. Double damn. He is sporting a very classic, yet fine tuxedo with a long, red tie; his jacket is open in a casual manner. "Well?"

I blush at the realization that I've been staring. A small smirk stretches upon his lips at my staring, as well. "O-Oh, um," I stutter softly, glancing down for a moment. "No, not particularly."

"Yeah, me neither," he sighs softly and takes a step closer to me, stuffing his hands in his pants pockets. We are now about a foot apart. That boyish charm I was talking about? Yeah, it's basically oozing from him right now. And it's hot as hell. "I don't know, but all these people in one room make me anxious as hell."

"Yeah, you can definitely say that again." My fingers tug and play at the fabric of my black clutch, as I work up the courage to do...something…alright, here we go. I place my clutch on the table, then look up at him, my brown baby hairs wisping about at the motion of my head. With a kind smile, I hold out my hand for him to shake. "My name's Grace."

He takes my hand in his, but instead of shaking it, brings it up to his lips and kisses my knuckles. His small, alluring smirk returns, making my heart lurch. "Todd," he says, gazing up at me through his lashes with those damned eyes. "It is very lovely to meet you, Grace."

Hot and sweet? You certainly don't come across that every day. "It is very lovely to meet you too, Todd." He winks, his charismatic smile only growing. Todd squeezes my hand before standing up straight, and drumming up a conversation. Well, it was mostly Todd, flirting and cracking jokes and me, giggling like a little school girl. "So do you have any siblings, Todd?" I question, leaning my elbow on the table. His black hair bounces as he nods.

"I do, yes. One older, two younger. All brothers."

I giggle softly and shake my head, resting my chin on my knuckles. "Oh my gosh, your poor mother."

"Oh...um, no mother. Just adoptive father." His once electric eyes are have now dimmed; they are clouded with a combination of a dark past and bittersweet memories, more of the darkness than not. God, that was so rude of me, assuming he had a picture-perfect family.

The strings and piano in the corner finish a piece, then begin again after a few moments of rest. This one's a bit more upbeat than the last selection played. I lick my dry lips and stand upright, taking a small step towards him. I place my hand on his bicep; it flexes under my touch. My eyes hold sympathy and understanding. "T-Todd, I'm so sorry. I didn't mean t-to bring up anything."

"It's alright babe, don't sweat it." Todd's smirk and charm return just like that. Another ten or fifteen minutes pass of us two making conversation. He is incredibly sweet and charming and funny and handsome and just...I just can't believe he's talking with me of all people, ya know?

Focusing back in, I laugh at Todd's story. "...so Damian put salt in his coffee!" He laughs as well, shaking his head a bit. "Thing is, our dad knew! But he drank it! All of it!" I laugh a bit harder, bending over slightly at the waist.

"He drank a whole mug of coffee with salt?! Oh my gosh, that is so badass and petty and I fucking love it!" Todd laughs at my exclamation and nods. I notice some of the guests look our way, annoyed and unimpressed expressions at how rowdy we are being. But I could honestly care less. I'm having so much fun, so much more than I thought I would.

"He said, and I quote, 'I didn't want-'" He cuts his sentence short, for some reason. My eyebrows furrow slightly when he looks somewhere behind me, his eyes widening a bit. Before I can turn around and ask, he makes eye contact and suddenly questions, "Do you want to dance?" I'm almost taken aback from how electric his emerald eyes are.

"Um, ye-"

Todd grabs my hand and practically drags me out to the dance floor. When we've immersed ourselves in the crowd, Todd places his left hand on my waist. I place my own hands in their rightful spots. My cheeks flush slightly when Todd presses me flush against his chest.

The piano begins a new tune, one I actually recognize. "Sorry about that, babe," he says softly, starting to sway side to side. When I look up, Todd flashes me an apologetic smile. "I just...don't want to see a specific person. And I don't want them to see me."

"Crazy ex?" I joke. Todd laughs, which makes me smile. His laugh is absolutely lovely, if I must admit.

"No, actually. My dad."

"The strict one that made you come here?" He nods a bit. I rest my chin on his shoulder, giggling softly. "The one that drank a salty mug of coffee?" He nods again, except laughs this time, bending his head down in my neck to muffle it.

"That's the one," he chuckles, when he has calmed down a bit. His smile still tickles the skin of my neck and shoulder. The skirt of my dress 'swooshes' around my ankles as my dance partner leads me.

Damn, he's good at this. How many of these things has he attend?

My eyes glance past Todd's shoulder to see my own father scanning the room. His expression holds drunken confusion and anger. Oh shit, he's looking for me, isn't he? "Tell you what," I speak up, focusing back on him. Todd's beautiful green eyes shine for a bit. "I'll help you hide from your father, if you help me hide from mine."

"Deal," Todd chuckles softly, leaning down and pressing a soft kiss to my forehead.

PART 44: | SOME SECRETS AREN’T MEANT TO BE TOLD |

There exist creatures of darkness and evil that plague the night, devouring any human unfortunate enough to be caught in their grasp.

SAN DIEGO

After four hours of a flight the plane was landing and pulling into a private hangar where the elegant black limousine was waiting for them.

Kol got to the limousine’s doors first and opened it for Natali. She gave him a warm smile, before she climbed into a limo and Kol did the same after her, followed by Eric and Megan.

Their limo arrived in front of Hôtel de L'immortel and an uniformed doorman in black suit opened the limousine door and stood rigidly at attention as they got out. While porters took their luggage inside, Kol stopped for a moment and stared upwards at the massive seven-story building.

They walked into the most beautiful hotel lobby that had modern furniture, large stairs on each side and a glass windows in a middle through which they’ve could look out onto the pool.

- “Dimitri, long time no see.”Natali greeted her old friend when she saw that he was approaching them with a smile across his face.

- “Always a pleasure to see you, Natali.” Dimitri said, as he took and raised her hand to his face, then placed a kiss on top of it.

- Megan huffed, “Stop being such a gentleman, Dimitri.”

- He smiled at her, “Lovely to see you two.”

- Natali chuckled and looked at Kol who was eyeing Dimitri, “Kol, he is the owner of this incredible hotel.” She told him, trying to get his attention on something else than giving death glares to her friend.

- “Oh, really?” Kol says in a flat tone, not taking his eyes off of Dimitri’s gaze.

- “Will you stop that.” Natali snapped at him.

- “Stop what?” Kol questioned as he turned his gaze towards her.

- “Stop giving him a death glares.” Natali said waving her hand towards Dimitri.

- Kol stared at her for several seconds, as if trying to comprehend her words, then finally his mouth opened to speak, “Whatever. I think he could just show us our room, so we can get comfortable in there.”

- “No need for him to show us our room since I have the whole floor made specially for me.” Natali told him, confidently smiling, her eyes glanced between Kol and Dimitri.

- Kol nodded his head, his gaze strolling over her face absently, “Interesting. Anything else?”

- “What else?” Natali asked in confusion narrowing her eyes at him.

- “Oh, I don’t know..” Kol began dryly, “For example - how many times was he in the bed specially made for you?” He questioned and he was dead serious.

- “Kol! What the fuck?!” Natali exclaimed sharply, with a slight frown.

- “I think we should get going.” Dimitri stated, looking at Eric and Megan. He never meet Kol before, but he did heard from Natali that he is very possessive over her, so it would be the best if they leave them alone.

Megan linked her hand under his elbow attempting to start walking away from them.

- “No.” Natali says quickly stopping them, then she looked back at Kol; Just stop! she demanded in a harsh voice, “He is gay you idiot. It's one thing when you're jealous for fun, but this is becoming too much.”She paused, taking a few moments to calm herself a little bit, “I suggest you - go and kill someone to cool off then you will find us at the club downstairs.”

At those words Kol clenched his jaw, but decided to remain silent. Natali watched him few more seconds, thinking he is going to say something like he usually does, but when she realized he won’t she slowly turned herself around and headed towards the club.

KOL’S P.O.V:

He remained standing in the lobby, watching as Natali simply walked away from him. And just a few seconds later he noticed that Eric stayed with him.

- “What do you want?” Kol snapped at him and headed towards the exit of the hotel.

- “I’ll join you for a snack.” Eric told him as he followed at his heels, “You know we could just order human in hotel.”

- “I perfer more to hunt them.” Kol simply replied.

- “You should trust her more.” Eric says quietly, making Kol to stop at his tracks and turn around to face him.

- “I don’t trust men around her.” Kol said getting too close for comfort, his eyes darkening, “And that includes you.”

- “Come on man, we know each other for like nine hundred years, I would never lie to you and nor would she.” Eric says in defence.

- “Maybe she is just protecting you.” Kol thought out loud.

- “Have you ever lied to her?” Eric dared to ask.

- “That’s none of your concerns.” Kol said menacingly, not taking his burning gaze from Eric until he didn’t turned himself around. Seeming like those words actually hit him more than they should if it wasn’t true

- Eric watched him as he spoke. “That's why you think she could be lying to you too, you are hiding someth-” He couldn’t finish his sentence due to Kol’s hand that locked around his neck in a crushingly tight grip, “Dare to speak about this again and I’ll rip your head straight off.”

Before Eric could even think of saying anything more, he felt his neck twist and everything go black. Kol carelessly dropped his body onto the floor and run off into the darkness.

Kol entered the club where Natali told him she will be and took a look at his surroundings. There were four stripper girls on the stage, swinging their hips to slow and seductive music that was blasting from every corner of the club. One of them had a vampire feeding on her inner thigh artery while she stood above him.

The dim red lights were illuminating the dark room and mostly everything was in dark red or black color. While Kol walked towards the booth where he noticed Natali he could smell the intoxicating scent of fresh human blood that is mixed with the smell of cigarettes.

- “Wait! You were dancing here?” Megan exclaimed as she looked at Natali with wide eyes.

- “Yes, I did.” Natali nodded with a smile, “But it was like 50 years ago.”

- “Oh, how come I didn’t know about it?” Megan questioned.

- Natali shrugged taking her glass of champagne, “I don’t know.” she says bluntly before placing a glass against her lips.

- “It was a great way to lure humans here, wasn't it?” Dimitri says with a slight smirk on his face, “She is mesmerizing.”

- “Like hell she is.” Kol said as he slides into a booth next to her with a stiff drink.

- “Did you cool yourself off?” Natali asked as she glanced at Kol who took a long sip of his drink.

- Kol smirk at her, placing his drink down and smoothing his hand over her shoulder, “Well it felt even better to kill someone than I thought it would.”

- Natali chuckled under her breath, “I’m glad it did.”

- After looking at her, Kol moved his glance between Megan and Dimitri who were sitting across from him, “So what did you guys talk about before I came?”

- “Just how your stunning girlfriend danced here a long time ago.” Dimitri told him, “She was more popular than Marilyn Monroe, who was also a regular guest here, very into vampire stuff. She was one of the wild ones.” He says with a salacious smirk on his lips.

- “I have no idea who she is.. but I’m sure she wasn’t a match for my darling.” Kol says with a grin.

- “Anyway, where’s Eric?” Megan asked him.

- “I have no idea.” Kol replied abruptly, drowning his drink.

- “Well I could order us some food.” Dimitri suggested lifting himself up and glancing at the three of them.

- “RH negative blood type for me, like usual.” Natali reminded him, even if she knew that he already knows.

- “RH human, coming right up. And for you two?” Dimirti asked looking between Megan and Kol.

- “I‘m gonna share with Natali.” Kol told him and Dimitri nodded in understatement.

- “Bring me whoever you want, I don’t choose.” Megan says and the two of them smirk at each other.

While they’ve waited for Dimitri to come back with humans, Megan noticed that Eric has entered the club and she waved to him. The moment he saw her he headed towards them.

- “Where have you been?” Megan ask as he sat next to her.

- “I had-” Eric began, but Kol shots him a look, “I was just walking around the city.”

- Megan let out a laugh, “Why would you do that?”

She knew that Eric wasn't a type who would walk around the city, instead he would rather spend his time at some bar or a club.

- “Does it really matter?” Eric snapped at her, annoyed by her questions and the fact that he needs to keep quiet in order to stay alive.

Some time later they were still at the club, where the party was at full swing. But Natali and Kol decided to sneak out of the party and have one of their own.

They've took the elevator to the penthouse that was on the last floor of the hotel. The penthouse was equally luxurious as the rest of the hotel. A balcony was surrounding the whole penthouse and had a huge swimming pool outside.

- “Beautiful isn't it.” Natali stated, as she led Kol into the bedroom.

Kol smiled following at her heels. The moment they’ve entered the bedroom, Kol grabbed her hand and spun her around into him. He clapped his hands on her ass and pulled her tight against his groin.

- “Someone's eager.” Natali whispered, as she took his face into her hands and pulled him into a deep kiss. Kol held her close, his hand trailing up and down her back, before she gently bites his bottom lip.

His kisses became more urgent and he lifted her up and pushed her against the wall, pressing his hips to hers. Natali runs her hand down his chest, then grabs the front of his shirt, pulling it off as he keeps her pinned up against the wall with his hips. When his shirt was on the floor, Kol leaned down to nibble on her earlobe, then slowly kisses his way down to her shoulders.

He sits her down, sliding his hands under her dress. She let's out a soft moan, just before he turns her around to unzip her dress and presses his chest against her back, kissing her neck and massaging her breasts. He placed a few bites here and there as he slid his hands down under her underwear and she let’s out another louder moan.

Cerebral Palsy

Cerebral palsy is a group of disorders that affect movement and muscle tone or posture. It's caused by damage that occurs to the immature brain as it develops, most often before birth.

Our guest today is Zain Bando, a Chicago area, 21-year-old college student and is studying journalism at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign as a junior. He hopes to pursue a career in broadcasting after graduation and currently resides in Downers Grove, IL with his family.

Sure. So, um, good morning. My name is Zain Bando And I am a 21 year old college student who's currently studying journalism at the University of Illinois in Champaign. And after graduation, um I hope to pursue a career in, in broadcasting or as a writer for a sports team. I don't know, I don't know what sports team that would be at. But it's something that I've always been interested in. And it's just a passion that I've always had, and I'm very glad to be pursuing it. So thank you again, for having me on today. I really appreciate it. And sorry, my, my pronunciation is actually "Zain", I know, I know that there's I in my name, but it actually isn't for now, literally. So if you think of the word "van", that's how my name is pronounced.

Yeah I don't know. We appreciate that. Zain. Can you send us out by actually telling us and our listeners what actually is? cerebral palsy?

Zain 01:33

Sure, so that's a great question. So according to the Mayo Clinic, cerebral palsy is a group of disorders that affect muscle control, movement, muscle tone, or posture, by injury or malformation, which occurs to the brain as it develops more often before birth during the birthing process, or just after birth. There are two main forms of CP, continental and acquired.

Right, right that I've got also in the Center for Disease Control here in the United States. That the risk factors for cerebral palsy, and I'm going to abbreviate it as CP is that it's important to know the risk factors. Some of the risk factors for congenital CP are a low birth weight. So children who weigh less than five and a half pounds at birth, or that's 2500 grams, and especially those who weigh less than three pounds at birth, so that's about 1500 grams, they have a greater chance of having CP, a child that is prematurely born. And that's children that are born before the 37th week of pregnancy, and especially if they're born before the 32nd week of pregnancy, they have a higher chance of having CP intensive care for premature infants has improved a lot over the past several decades. And babies that are born very early are more likely to live now. But many have medical problems that can put them at risk for CP. Another risk factor is multiple births, twins, triplets, and other multiple births have a higher risk for CP, especially if a baby's twin or triplet dies before birth, or shortly after birth. I don't know why that would be but that's what they're saying. some but not all of this increased risk is due to the fact that children born from multiple pregnancies are often born early or with low birth weight, or both children that are conceived with artificial reproductive technology, abbreviated as ART in fertility treatments. Those pregnancies that result have a higher risk of CP. Most of the increased risk is explained by preterm delivery or multiple births or both. And both preterm delivery and multiple births are increased with children conceived with ART infertility treatments. Another risk would be infections that the mother might get during pregnancy infections can lead to increased certain proteins called Cytokines and that circulates in the brain and the blood of the baby during pregnancy. Cytokines cause inflammation, which can lead to brain damage in the baby. A fever in the mother during pregnancy or delivery can also cause this problem. Some types of infections that have been linked to CP include viruses such as chicken pox, rubella, German, which is also German measles, and also Sue-to

We're going to go with that KernicTetris is the yellow color scene in the skin of many newborns. jaundice happens when a chemical called bilirubin builds in the baby's blood. When too much of this bilirubin builds up in the baby's blood the skin in the whites of the eyes might look yellow. This yellow coloring is called jaundice. And when severe jaundice goes untreated for too long, it can cause their condition that Zain pronounced properly and it can cause CP and other conditions. That's the best way to go sometimes Kernicterus results from Abo and Rh blood type differences between the mother and the baby. This causes the red blood cells in the baby to break down too fast resulting in severe jaundice. medical conditions of the mother, such as mothers with thyroid problems, intellectual disability, or seizures have a slightly higher risk of having a child with CP, and other birth complications such as detachment of the placenta, a uterine rupture, or problems with the umbilical cord during birth, can disrupt oxygen supply to the baby, and result in CP.

Well, while that's all true, a small percentage of CP is caused by brain damage that occurs more than 28 days after birth. This is called the acquired CP and usually associated with infection, such as meningitis and head injury, or a problem with blood flow to the brain. cerebral vascular accidents for example, stroke or or bleeding in the brain associated with the blood clotting problem, blood vessels that didn't form properly, or heart defect that was present at birth or sickle cell disease,

Zain, what are some of the symptoms for cerebral palsy?

Sure, so because this condition begins to show signs and symptoms at a very early age, and individuals, parents or health care providers typically notice the signs and symptoms of cerebral palsy. The symptoms and effects of cerebral palsy vary depending on the location and extent of the injury to the brain, your child might normal intelligence or have learning difficulties or learning difficulties, your child might have mild difficulties with movement or be unable to control their limbs, despite the variations in symptoms of certain effects are common among people with cerebral palsy.

I think some people think Up to like 1213 children at a time, such as transferring only one embryo at a time. And then having multiple pregnancies. It's also important to get vaccinated for certain diseases as Lita had mentioned, such as the chicken pox or rubella. And that could, those if you should contract those illnesses while pregnant, that could be harmful to the developing baby. It's also important to have many of these vaccinations before you become pregnant. And as we've learned Also, before you have an organ transplant, or any of those things as well, for undertaking any major life changes,

Right. And during pregnancy, you should have early and regular prenatal care, both for your health and for the end of your developing baby. You should wash your hands often with soap and water to help reduce the risk of infections that might cause harm to your developing baby. Contact your health care provider if you get sick, have a fever or have other signs of infection during pregnancy. a flu shot is your best protection in our in our opinion, against serious illness from the flu, or flu shot can protect pregnant women and their unborn babies, both before and after birth. flu shots have not been shown to cause harm to pregnant women or their babies. If there is a difference in the blood type, or the Rh in compatibility between the mother and the baby, like we said it can cause jaundice and Kernicterus. I'm not going to get that one

Yep, women should know their blood type and talk to their doctor about ways to prevent problems. And also you should talk to your doctor about ways to prevent problems if you are at risk for preterm delivery, such as if you have multiple embryos. Research has shown that taking magnesium sulfate before anticipated early preterm birth reduces the risk of CP among surviving infants.

Just like the mom before pregnancy makes sure your child has vaccines against infections that can cause meningitis. And with it, we'll see if I can get this one, um encephalitis Buckling their child in the car. Buckling their child in the car using an infant or child car seat, booster seat or seat belt according to the child's height, weight and age. Again, this is just our opinion of recommendations that should be done. Make living area safe. Make living areas safer for children by using window guards. Keep young children from falling from falling out of open windows and using safety gates at the top and bottom of stairs. Make sure make sure the surface of your child's playground is made of a shock absorbing material such as hardwood mulch or sand, carefully watching children at the time. At all times are in bathtubs swimming or wading pools, and natural bodies of water that should that should just go for any young child in general disability or not. Adults watching kids in the water should avoid distracting activities like using a computer or a mobile device reading or taking or talking on the phone. Talking on the phone might be the most dangerous one, in my opinion.

Make sure your child wears a helmet. For activities like riding a bike. That's an obvious one. And of course, never hit, throw, shake or hurt a child. I know the sound like common sense things, but some young mothers may not know how dangerous life is for a very young child. That's right. Great advice Zain. As a matter of fact, I just heard on the news that they they are trying to reach out to very young mothers mothers that really don't have perhaps a mentor. They might be on their own. They don't have the the background and those type of mothers. They just might not have all of these tools at their disposal. So hopefully this episode will help them

Yeah. Great. Zain. What treatments are available for somebody that's been diagnosed with CP ?

Zain 14:24

For sure, um, There are medications that can help with the muscle spasticity. In July of this year, the FDA has approved an expanded use of Dysport to treat upper and lower limbs spasticity which I actually did not know about, including that caused by CP for patients as young as two years and older. Overtime, CP might cause problems with muscles, bones and joints in your child might need surgery to address these issues or concerns.

Right Right, Zain. What tips do you have for someone whose child has recently been diagnosed with CP

um while there's still an ongoing education process to be have to be had just from my own personal experience, I would not recommend panicking. If you can find the right resources available to parents out there today. them from when I was born 21 years ago that I think that's key just because the world is evolved so much in that time. I see having a trustworthy doctor and focusing on the things that the child can do is a key to begin a positive outlook on life. For sure.

That's great advice. And what would you What have you found to be the most common misconception about CP?

Zain 15:42

I've noticed that a lot of people think that the people were born with CP are born exactly the same way. So I would say every person is born with it. So I would say the biggest misconception that people have is every person born with it as the same journey of life. While in actuality, people want to live with the condition and focus on the things they can control.

So I love the way you view that. Your outlook, Zain, um, how about your friends and family? What kind of role have they played in your life? And do you have any other support systems that you found to be helpful?

Zain 16:30

Yes, um thankfully, I have a good support system, both from friends and family. They've been extremely supportive in all my endeavors. Anything for me, scuba diving over a decade ago to participating in athletics as a social media manager in high school, or for the football and basketball teams, they've always been there. I also think that surrounding yourself with positive people will only make life more fun. And I've also recognized that focusing on your inner self motivation, working out meditation, any of those things, is also a good way to reset and focus on your whole self too. Because at the end of the day, what's inside you, in my opinion is most important. So

That's, that's fantastic. And I have a question. You're a Downers Grove North grad. Is that correct?

I sure I sure am absolutely.

We have three my my Lita's three grandsons all went to Downers Grove north too so you guys are all in good company. all, Alumns. Yes, all Alumns, I have a question. So what first interested you in journalism? And then what drew you specifically to sports journalism? Because I hear we actually read some of your some of your articles for Downers Grove North? And I'm just curious what first inspired that? Do you have like a favorite journalist?

Zain 17:49

Sure. So um, I mean, when I was in high school, I knew I wanted to do something. um in sports. Because um in middle school, I had been a public address announcer for the middle school basketball teams. And I knew I wanted to do something similar in high school, because of course, I can't physically play organized athletics. And when I was a junior in high school, I took a intro to journalism class. And thankfully, the teacher who's actually the current head softball coach, there was really big into sports and kind of drew me into the entire industry,

And I took in all and I took in all the knowledge, and I just knew that's the path I wanted to pursue myself on. And, you know, thankfully, I was able to be given all these wonderful opportunities, and I owe a lot to him and, and of course, I owe a lot to, to my head coaches, that I was able to help out as a manager for varsity football, varsity basketball my final two years there, and you know that North's a place that's always going to be it's always going to be with me for a very long time. And I'm always going to consider Downers Grove home. So it's been a it's been a wonderful experience and a very, very good question.

So, you know what, I'm gonna probably show some of my ignorance over here. You're from Downers Grove. And we are basically in the Chicago region. I'm not a huge follower of follower of the White Sox. But I do know that the Chicago White Sox baseball team has an announcer that has CP I don't recall the gentleman's name, but have you ever reached out to him for any advice?

It's a very good question, as his name is Jason Benetti. He's a wonderful announcer. Unfortunately, I've tried reaching out to him multiple times. But um, you guys may not know this. He's a very, very busy person. Not only does he do White Sox baseball, he does college football and during his, big time college basketball games, through the winter months. I've tried a couple of times, things just haven't worked out. But I'm very hopeful that we can cross paths. And some day because he does have the same disability. I do. And he does tremendous work. And he's just somebody that I think a lot of people in the sports industry should continue to work up to, because he's going to be either the next generation of people that are going to be coming through the pipeline. So thank you again, for for mentioning that. Yes. I'm very well aware of who Jason Benetti is.

Um, so Zain, what is it been like, at the university with COVID? And everything? And how is learning changed?

Um, I mean, it's been interesting. I actually decided to stay home for the semester because of COVID. But I think overall, the university has done a tremendous job with the revolutionary saliva test, they've been able to make it through the entire semester. And I'm looking forward to going back in the spring and just seeing what a COVID semester is going to be like, because I think we're going to be with this virus for a little bit. And, yeah, I think, I think it's just one of those things that where we kind of all have to get through it and stay positive and again, like, kind of the theme of this episode has been, we need to control what we can control at this point. And yeah, absolutely.

Okay. Speaking of control, I'm going to take control the mics right now I'm gonna cut off Jean and Lita, we're gonna wrap this up. And we do appreciate your time. But one thing I did want to talk about, I think somebody earlier mentioned something about water, or Dive or Dive Heart. But I know, you've been with an organization called Dive Heart that does scuba diving for children, adults and veterans with disabilities. But is it more than just jumping in the water or breathing underwater, does it? How much more does that affect you doing that sport?

Well, I mean, that's a great, that's a great question. First off, they've always been in tremendous organization. They, they, they gave me You know, they give people opportunities where they don't feel like they have kind of an avenue to go through. And that's one of the things that I felt when I was younger when I did it. So the freedom of movement underwater is one of the most satisfying things you could ever have. I think scuba is less about the act of getting underwater, and feeling relaxed, and more about all the prep stuff, the teamwork, the communication associated with being able to work with a group of experienced divers being able to learn all the different equipment and kind of what the kind of what the rules and regulations are and just being with people who are going to be there that are going to be able to support you as you kind of feel the freedom underneath underneath the water. And for some it's an exhilarating feeling because when they're out of the water they don't they either they either don't feel that movement or sensation or it's very difficult for them. So that's something that's something that I've noticed, just simply doing the sport and being a part of it for for as long as I was.

Robin Hood episode ranking part 1 (39-33)

I recently finished a rewatch of BBC’s Robin Hood. I’ve seen the show all the way through about three times now, though I’ve watched a lot of season 1 and 2 separately as well. This time I was watching with someone who had never seen the show. On top of that, we watched it in a non-chronological order, which made me view many of the episodes in a different light. So, I (with my friend) decided to rank all 39 episodes from worst to best.

I’ll be splitting this ranking into 5 parts, because the whole thing ended up being 14 pages long. We tried to take into account how good the episodes are objectively from a narrative point of view, but ultimately in many places our own enjoyment determined the final placements. Feel free to agree or disagree with me. I’d also like to add that when I say an episode is “bad”, I mean it in the context of the show. I’ve seen a lot worse things on TV than anything on this show. Nothing in this show is so bad it’s unwatchable. Anyway, here’s part 1 with places 39–33.

39. 3x1 – Total Eclipse

This episode just… isn’t that good. The plot feels messy and even though it’s supposed to emotionally rely on the events of the season 2 finale, it ends up feeling hollow and empty. Robin and Gisborne have some classic Man Pain angst revolving around Marian’s death, but she’s just reduced to someone they both loved. It’s not like she was an actual person who had other qualities beyond being the love interest. It doesn’t help that this is really the only season 3 episode where her death is properly addressed. Overall, Gisborne and Robin are both even more annoying than usual in this episode. The other outlaws are just given something to pass the time while Robin wallows in his own angst, and I didn’t care about anything going on in the episode. Tuck is an alright character, but he’s better later on in the season. In this episode he just does things to advance the plot, and I didn’t find him that interesting. For some reason, the aesthetic for this episode also seemed to be “let’s make everyone look like drowned dogs”. There might be some positive aspects to this episode, but I honestly don’t remember them, which is why it’s at the bottom of this list. I have no real interest in rewatching this episode any time soon.

38. 3x5 – Let the Games Commence

I had honestly forgotten how bad this episode is. The A and B plotlines have nothing to do with each other, and both are bad. Why is there a lion? What did the circus plot add to the story? Isabella’s introduction is the only positive thing in this episode, but even that could have been done in a more interesting way. I also do have to add that they did a good job casting Isabella, since my friend guessed that she is Gisborne’s sister before it was even revealed. Overall, this episode could be skipped if not for the fact that it introduces Isabella. The plot feels useless and it doesn’t even have the fun sense of adventure that many episodes in season 2 had.

37. 3x7 – Too Hot to Handle

Why was this episode so sexual? The “romance” felt incredibly forced. Robin and Isabella’s relationship moves too fast, and I do not enjoy watching it. Kate’s jealousy doesn’t help either. The plot is stupid, and the characters make equally stupid decisions. Robin is almost as annoying in this episode as he is in 3x1, but since the plot is at least a little bit more interesting, this episode is above it in the ranking.

36. 3x9 – A Dangerous Deal

What is it with this season and trying to pair off teenage girls (or at least characters that are written as such) with fully grown men? Meg had so much potential, which was then wasted by throwing her into a one-episode “romance” with Gisborne. The two of them could have made a completely platonic connection to advance the plot in a similar way, there was no need to make it romantic. Another pairing I hate in this episode was Robin and Kate. I felt my spine crack into small pieces every time I had to watch the two of them have a moment together. Robin talks to Kate like she is a child (and since she is written as if she’s a teenager, I don’t blame him for it), yet for some reason I’m supposed to believe that the two of them like each other romantically? Thanks, but no thanks. Isabella’s husband is a character that fills me with rage, and this episode would have been improved if he had gotten stabbed in the eye within the first five minutes. I like that Isabella got to be the one to kill him and that she didn’t need to be saved by someone else. Unfortunately, the show then gets hypocritical and frames this as a bad thing. Robin has spent the show killing people left and right, but when Isabella kills her abusive husband – during a time when divorce was not an option and she had no protection against him – it’s suddenly much worse than anything Robin has ever done? Isabella, like Meg and Kate, had so much potential, but the show decided to make her into a villain by painting her as “the crazy bitch” for no good reason. I remembered this episode to be better than what it was, and I was disappointed when I rewatched it.

35. 3x3 – Lost in Translation

The one thing I remember the best from watching this episode is that after we were done, we read the Wikipedia article on the history of Bible translations. The actual plot of the episode doesn’t tie into anything, and nothing relevant happens. The priest or whoever annoyed us, as did Tuck. The characters, in true season 3 manner, made stupid decisions. This is one of the most skippable episodes in the whole series. The plot of the episode is bad, but not as terrible as the negative aspects of the previous episodes on this list, which is why it’s ranked higher.

34. 3x2 – Cause and Effect

This episode goes into the same category as 3x3 in terms of being very forgettable. The guest characters are alright, but they don’t add that much to the story to lift this episode any higher. The only thing in this episode that has anything to do with the rest of the reason is the introduction of Kate. It’s not her best episode, but it’s also not the worst. The episode was slightly more interesting than 3x3, but other than that, I barely remember either of these episodes.

33. 1x10 – Peace? Off!

If I wasn’t at least a little bit reasonable, this episode would be at the bottom of the list. I am, however, also spiteful, which is why this is ranked so low. Why? I hate the ninja women with a burning passion. Nothing in this show makes me as irrationally angry as they do. It pains me to even think about this episode because I am then forced to think about the ninja women. Other than them, I feel like this episode suffers from having too many smaller themes in one episode. At first the episode felt a bit confusing, since there was so much going on. The one great thing about this episode is Much. His scenes are amazing, and if the episode consisted of only them, this might easily have ended up in the top 10. Unfortunately, rather than focusing on Much and Harold working through their trauma, they decided to shove in the ninja women, and for that this episode must be punished.

This part ended up being quite negative, but we had to start somewhere. The historic Hotel Belvedere at 502 Lincoln street was built in 1917, just a few years after our beautiful Carnegie Library. The Roseville Historical Society recognizes it as a historically significant building. For over a year, they have been working non-stop on a big exhibit and event (currently postponed due to the pandemic) celebrating its rich history. Alexander B. McRae, early Roseville pioneer, sold this land to Alex L. Bell, who had the Belvedere built by Michael & Stoffels. John M. Stoffels, one of the most active building contractors in Roseville and Placer County during the 1920s-1940s, also built the Veterans' Memorial Hall in Auburn, The J. C. Penney building on Vernon Street, Cochrane's Chapel of The Roses, and the Citizens' Bank. The Lumber was provided by Adams Lumber Co., managed by Roy Matheny- who lived at the Belvedere in 1925. At one of his company's free annual Rose Theater parties, he vowed "that his company would always be found at the forefront of the upbuilding and boosting of the City of Roses." He went on to operate Matheny Bros. Lumber Co. and became Vice President of our Local Building & Loan Assoc. The Press Tribune stated that he and his brother had "staked their all on Roseville's Future, having recently opened one of the best and most modernly equipped lumber yards in the state." This Lumber Co. was sold to Diamond Match Co. and they ended up purchasing G. W. Lohse's Real Estate & Insurance Business.

From it's very beginning, the Craftsman-style hotel hosted upstanding individuals. Boasting of hot water in every room, the Belvedere was the higher-end place to stay in Roseville when it was built, proudly called an "ornament to Lincoln Street" by the Roseville Press Tribune in the week of its grand opening. We can see, based on guest books, census documents, and newspaper articles that the Belvedere was occupied by successful Engineers, Conductors, Trainmen and important business men who came to Roseville to work with the Southern Pacific Railroad and Pacific Fruit Express. Even the first owner of the Belvedere, Alexander L. Bell, was a Conductor from New York. The different women who lived at and owned the Belvedere contributed much to our community, taking leadership roles in groups such as the Ladies' Aid Society.

Mrs. Pearl Manring, who operated the hotel for 35 years until her passing in 1989, was a member of the Roseville Historical Society. Under her name, the Belvedere Hotel has been listed as a Major Contributor to the Old Town Roseville Historic District since 1981. According to the architectural report done last year, the building is at the very least a Supportive Contributor to the Old Town Roseville Hist. Dist. Reasons listed in this report for why the building shouldn't keep its Major listing, are that it's obstructed by trees (which would be easily pruned or removed), obstructed by the Moose Lodge, (which it's much taller than) and that the building's original signs are gone. The new owner, in the past year, allowed someone to remove and sell those signs without a permit to do so. Both signs ahve been purchased and donated to the Historical Society and could be reused or replicated. The building is listed on the RHS website. The Carnegie Museum holds much evidence of its important history and has made it clear, to all who ask, that the building is significant. Up until very recently, her daughter Dolores lived in the Hotel and only left to be in a nursing care facility. Since it was sold in June, 2019, it's been confirmed by a building inspector that the building is in surprisingly good shape and has very little asbestos to remove. The roof is new and the building is made with sturdy redwood, which has made it highly resistant to weather damage over time. Those who were outbid in 2019 and so many others had and continue to have hopes and plans to restore the Belvedere. We all know that the hotel is restoreable.

Now the new owner, Old Town Roseville LLC, has officially submitted a plan to demolish this historically intact, century-old building to build condos in its place. We ask that you not approve this plan. Plenty of new housing is under construction just up the street. Seeing as the Belvedere Hotel is on a 9,975 sqft lot, a compromise could be that condos or other buildings be built on the land around it, with the historic hotel as a restored feature adding value and interest. It could be restored to be something like Sacramento's "Kupros Crafthouse," an office space, event space, or so many other things. There are plenty of possibilities. We ask that this current plan, involving the hotel's demolition, be turned down in light of the Belvedere's local historical significance, Major Contributor listing for the Old Town Roseville Historical Dist. and the overwhelming interest of our community in restoring it. We would absolutely come together to make it happen. The owner has other options, but we don't have another Hotel Belvedere. This building is a piece of our history we are proud of and have much hope for. All we ask is that you to hear the voices of Roseville locals and simply not approve this plan.

Recently, The Holbrooke Hotel in Grass Valley, The National Hotel in Nevada City (both restorations being funded by Acme Hospitality in Santa Barbara), The Gilded Drifter Inn of Loyalton (the owner was inspired by Hotel Belvedere to purchase it), and Park Victorian in Auburn have been successfully and lovingly restored by their communities. We in Roseville deserve to see our very own beloved and irreplaceable Belvedere Hotel brought back to life as well.
