11: I have to go dogs - that's all the family ever had, since 3/4ths of us are allergic to cats.

(including me, though it's been literally decades since I've spent any length of time around a cat; other of my allergies have moderated a bit - the hope is that one has too)

28: Conservative politics, smoking, and poor grammar are probably the top three.

31: Yes - a younger sister.

41: I think that certainly at the beginning there has to be some kind of attraction? Though that means something different to every individual person. And I like to think that they get less important as time goes on - that's your person, no what how their appearance may change.

60: Total, full-blown, love? I don't think so - that requires intimate exchange of all sorts. I think there can be a spark of more-than-usual attraction at first sight that can lead to love (and then be read backward as love at first sight).

61: I think there are people who are so incredibly compatible that it may seem fated that they would have ended up together... but getting together takes work and staying together takes work - it's not the work of the gods or what-have-you.

65: Things people here don't know about me? People in 'real life'? Both?

Almost no one in 'real life' knows many of the things I talk about here. Almost no one here knows much about what I do in 'real life'. I guess in some senses I consider that a privilege reserved to very select people.

67: Nope. Not sure I ever really did - at least not conventionally. I believe I had a stuffed bear but he was tucked up at the head of the bed?

There's a rootedness in it that also ties in with a stubbornness and a contrariness that are all strong elements in me. I actually relate to it more powerfully in terms of a more local perspective - thinking about my city, and also to some extent my state: this is a place that has been through very hard times (and is still not exactly in fine fettle). But to me it's the best place in the world: I know it, I love it, and I work for it (in my ways) and I defend it - because it is mine; it is part of me, as I am part of it.

87: Probably a number of politically unwise things having to do with executive orders and smack-talking Supreme Court justices and Congresspeople. The current one actually seems to be doing quite well legislatively, given the political environment, so better him than I.

#probably not treating that question as intended #but then I teach government and know damn well that a president is not a king #...unlike too many people online these days #(and very unfortunately some in real life)#I've only lived outside my local area for one year #when I was away at college #I do love it here #even as all my more tangible connections have evaporated #not a very popular mindset these days #and it has - and probably will continue to - limit my possibilities in certain ways #but... 🤷‍♂️#I would pair it with James Baldwin's #'I love America more than any other country in the world and exactly for this reason I insist on the right to criticize her perpetually.'#especially on a national level #I want to see the places I love do better #not leave them for someone else to clean up #or to the mercy of my opponents #I'm a very active sleeper #so I don't think a stuffed animal would have done well #or would today #'privilege' is doing a lot of work in that sentence 😅#I guess if anyone wants a real answer to the question they should follow-up more specifically #there's a large element of luck to who you get to meet #but I wouldn't consider that 'fate' either #it's just luck #(I don't think the next three need any tags?)#certainly that's the trifecta that eliminates most of the people I look at on the dating site 😂#I guess I could throw 'excessive drinking' in there #I have a few other more controversial (for Tumblr) ones #I have had to take Benadryl in the presence of cats

I can’t stop thinking about a fanfic idea where Mickey does 8 years in prison after season 5 as planned, and when he gets out he moves to whatever city Svetlana and Yev live in, determined to move on with his life.

And then 8 years later when Yev is like 17, they’re all back in Chicago for a few days because Yevs got a big soccer game or something for school. Anyway they lose the game. So afterwards, him & his friends sneak out of the hotel and end up getting into a fight with the other team and one of them gets injured so an ambulance is called.

And Yevgeny isn’t hurt or anything, just a black eye and bruised knuckles. So he can’t figure out why the red headed paramedic keeps looking at him like the guy has seen a ghost.

But then, his mom and dad arrive, ready to cuss him out for being so stupid. And Yev notices his dad and the paramedic look at each other with that same stricken expression that the red head was wearing earlier, and he starts to piece it together.

And so 16 years after Ian and Mickey’s break-up, Yevgeny meets his dad’s first love and gets to witness their long road back to each other.

all the while society conflates "being an adult" with "having a proper job" and "having money to make arbitrary Adult Purchases" disabled people who can't work - or can only work part time or can only do entry level baby jobs - will never be 'allowed' to be adults

you can say "being an adult is looking after yourself you don't have to have a job!!!" all you want but most people who say that will still assume anybody who doesn't either can't or won't 'look after themselves' actually. and every 'marker' of 'adulthood' that's observable and thus actually counts or whatever loops back around to... having a job and 'contributing' something
