I can't be the only one surprised how casually you're just. Here. Mind talking about what it was like to like. Join Tumblr?
It was 13 or 14 years ago. From what I remember you just shouldered aside the mastodons, went into the Tumblr cave and carved your mark on the wall, telling people you were now signed up for tumblr, and then they would haul memes on animal hides past you. Back then it was mostly cats doing amusing things, obviously, but we would watch them by the flickering firelight, and chortle to ourselves hopefully before leaving the cave and trudging back to our lives.
"this is reasonable seeing as they escape later in the episode" as if star trek isn't some work of fiction with a main character they can't just kill off or strand all willy nilly.
Of course they got out. It's not real. And applying real logic of probability or odds to it (even if wrong) is illogical.
lmao exactly. like. that is how stories work. "hero survives seemingly insurmountable odds" is a Thing Heroes Do. it's not even going to be a line worth writing or a scene worth doing if "wow what are our odds of surviving THIS" is "99.7%"
d...did that math person go on some rant about "probability and odds are different" proceed to explain the odds thing AS PROBABILITY INSTEAD, insist super high odds are actually really likely (contrary to every instance of odds... ever, really?) and then say that because narratively they survived they always had a 99% chance of survival
a) yes
b) yes hence why they should DEFINITELY go and bet all their money on something that's like 500:1. they will absolutely get their money back. i promise. it's at least a 90% chance
c) famously nobody has survived overwhelmingly high odds, certainly not in fiction narratively for the sake of a good story
