I think Tim is rapidly becoming disillusioned with death. Within the space of just a few years over half of the people he cared about died, and most of them came back. Stephanie, Dick, Kon, Bart, Jason, Bruce (who wasn't technically dead but-), and even Damian.
Note how those are only his hero friends. Janet, Jack and Dana are unfortunately still dead.
So i genuinely think that the next time a hero friend dies, Tim is going to think they'll come back. Sort of like Bruce, except the next time, they won't come back. But Tim, who we already know is terrible with grief (99 clones, anyone?), will definitely cling to the idea that his newly perished hero friend will come back because "look at the data! Heck, even Superman came back to life! They're gonna come back, guys. They have to."

Thinking so hard about Last Life again, so I've updated my Jimmy design a bit because my style has changed DRASTICALLY since the beginning of the year.
I've got loose ideas for Mumbo and Martyn designs, but I'm totally blanking on Grian and Impulse, so I'll see if I can pop those out before the next semester starts.

Hey! i’m really into the dbch story and i was wondering if doc and xisuma ever tell bdubs the specifics of why etho lost his memories, cause if they do that is prime self blaming angst for bdubs
I’m inclined to believe they don’t. Actually (and maybe I should do a small comic for this so more people see it) I imagine, once a month or a few pass and they finally return etho to bdubs as reset, I imagine they are VERY serious about warning bdubs not to try to force Etho to re-deviate— they don’t go into specifics, but they probably tell bdubs that whatever happened had to do with something that was emotionally overwhelming, and that forcing him to redeviate/not letting it happen naturally could trigger the same error. They have no idea what could happen so bdubs needs to be very careful and let Etho find himself again on his own.
Whether or not bdubs gets impatient or can only go so long before he doubts it would be that bad if he tried pushing Etho in the right direction is another story.
But yeah. I don’t think Xisuma or Doc really… tell anyone that this happened. Etho’s error seemed like a very specific one-off scenario, so it’s not something the other hermits should be trying to avoid or be careful about happening to their own android friends, and the only thing telling people would do is make them worried about the situation. All they need to know is that etho was broken and that they need to be careful with him. I don’t agree with their decision to keep what happened to themselves but I understand it I think. Xisuma “i don’t want to worry the hermits” Void and Docm “eh this isn’t the first time I’ve replaced this arm, people won’t question it” 77

helloooo have a messy scribble page of oc concepts. unfortunately, im in love and will now proceed to ramble At Length
but before that! rudimentary height chart!
all i know rn is Mairy - the cow - is about the same height as Howdy/Barnaby/Poppy (around 8ft), Hettie & Daisy are in the Wally/Julie/Sally category (around 3ft), and Jesterly is more Frank/Eddie (around 4ft). Derry Drake is fuckoff huge, and Casey is... idk really. tall but not That tall
so. rambles. i... have those, yeah
Mairy Love - she/her - lesbian
a gorgeous white/blue cow! originally she was gonna be pink/white, but blue/white is my favorite color combo and honestly? it's dairy colors to me. she's big! she's strong! she's very gentle and sweet but also takes shit from no one, even though she doesn't like confrontation much (unless its playful roughhousing! jokes fly completely over her head! i'm thinking she tends to a lovely orchard of various fruit trees, and probably cultivates some crops for fun as well. maybe seasonal ones? pumpkins for the spooky season, fir trees for those snowy days, etc.
Casey J. Mittens - he/him - aro
this orange fella is scaredy cat central! unfortunately for him, he's also curious to a fault! curiosity killed the cat, and he fears the day that rings true for him! he'd rather curl up at home or in a cozy tree, crocheting something cute from one of his many balls of yarn than do anything else. he tries to be a voice of reason, but is too easily convinced otherwise. he's that friend who says "we shouldn't be doing this" as he wholeheartedly assists in the shenanigan in question.
Hettie (currently undecided) - she/her - bi
true to her honeybee heritage, Hettie is a florist! she boasts an impressive array of flowers that she tends to like her life depends on it. she's always running around to make sure they're all getting the best care - and she's always checking in on her pals to make sure they're taken care of, too. she's a busy bee who wouldn't know a day's rest if it stung her on the ass! It takes a lot to make her mad, but everybody better watch out when her wings start buzzing
Daisy Hop - she/him - pan
i actually created Daisy as a supplementary character for a certain au, but realized i could find a place for her in this little group. i'm thinking he runs a little shop - a roadside stall, more like - where she can both sell her own homemade candy & his friends' stuff! she's the only one in the group that can keep up with Hettie's energy, and even surpass it at times. though unlike Hettie, Daisy knows how to take (and appreciate) a break!
Jesterly - whatever/is/funniest - Derry
a menace. they love pranks above all else, oftentimes at the expense of others. he's always up to something and is never not scheming something! there's always Someone to bother! in all honesty she's more like an annoying stray cat that no one can get rid of... and they better not try, or they'll face the wrath of this fool's Very large partner! The jester's cap never comes off, and neither does the mask!
Derry Drake - they/them - Jesterly
there's no sugarcoating it - Derry is a big lazy grump! it's almost impossible to get them out of their cave, or off of any place they decide to nap. the only thing that can reliably get them moving is the promise - or prospect - of food. it's a wonder how they've accumulated such a hoard of random things in the back of their cave, seeing as they rarely get up at all. they're incredibly nearsighted and bite first, ask questions later - after all, who knows if the colorful blob in front of them is food or not! better to be safe than hungry!
currently in my mind they have their own little community deep in the woods. Daisy lives in a modified burrow, Maisy has a cute farmhouse, Casey lives in a cozy treehouse, Hettie has a small cottage, and Derry & Jesterly live in a cave. within their community, they share practically everything. want a snack? pluck something from the orchard. need a new pair of mittens? ask Casey! i suppose you could say they're communists <3 (except for Daisy. she won't charge his friends, but anyone else is free game)
Mairy and Hettie have romantic tension, Daisy and Derry are the only ones who can tolerate Jes, Mairy wants Jes dead, Casey is terrified of Derry, Daisy's rapid-fire speech confuses everyone but Hettie, etc. i should make a chart for funsies...

tags on that recent dunmeshi poll post are making me so sad
humans are often some of my favorite fantasy races, they're not boring! They're often the race of ambition--what they might lack in particular magical prowess, or claws, or muscles, they make up for in raw numbers, and a competitive drive to keep up with the other races and assert their own place in the world. They're the jack of all trades who ever strive to pick up a little bit of what everyone else can do. They aren't boring, and neither are you: to be human is to persevere and endure, and that is wonderful

I’ve finally gotten to watching Grian’s pov in Last Life and ohh ohh why have you guys been selling Desert Duo short in this?? “It doesn’t have the same amount of content as it does in Third Life and Double Life“ and “oh they’re avoiding each other” were you not LOOKING? this is a PERFECT continuation of Third Life!!
First off, Grian right off the bat making it clear he owes Scar nothing, he takes Scar’s first life and this time he doesn’t give Scar anything. He’s specifically dodging ending up in any kind of alliance with him again (he literally made sure the world didn’t have a desert, mans was sick of it), yet he keeps going back to Scar. He does not go a single session without seeking him out. Gonna swindle a life? He first thinks of Scar. Need to ransom someone? Scar! When Grian hits red the first time, he doesn’t even mention Bdubs (The first person on his list since episode one) ONLY Scar. And it goes both ways, i mean tell me Scar didn’t deliberately not kill Grian when he had the Boogymen curse in episode 2. He’s so used to Grian on his side even when they’re not technically on the same team. So no, Grian is not trying to avoid Scar, Grian is trying to avoid being in Scar’s debt again. And you know what? He fails at that.
The turn tables. THE TURNED TABLES, GUYS. Grian is having to rely on Scar so much in this season. The life he took from Scar, for “safe keeping”, he immediately lost it, he got to red before Scar even lost one life (TURNED TABLES), he had to sign himself into being in Scar’s debt again in exchange for another life which he looses while Scar is gone. In episode 8, Joel and Grian are standing in front of Scar, all three of them reds, but they’re only standing there because of Scar. In the same episode, Grian has to keep taking and taking from Scar; his diamonds for a chest plate, his sand for TNT, his enchanter for enchantments. Unlike last season, where it ended with a “i owe you my first life, i owe you my third life” relationship between the two, this season was Grian trying to avoid being in his debt at all, avoid owing him anything, but instead he digs himself deeper into the same hole and pretends he didn’t. He relies on Scar as much as or arguably more than Scar did in the last season. And he has nothing to give back, never lets himself fall back into being on the same team. “Scar, don’t start a fight you can’t win”. Even when he only still has his Last Life because of Scar, he’s refusing any real loyalty to him. He even outlives him again.
The entire series, Grian has not been able or willing to give anything back to Scar. Not in resources, in lives, or even in friendship and loyalty.
Grian and Scar have been destined to be connected the second that creeper blew up at the start of Third Life.
