#trans voices
Text
I've been seeing some conversation over trans women's voices and just figured that I would give my two cents.
A trans woman's voice is perfect if it's the voice she wants to have.
There are women out there with traditionally masculine voices who like their voices and don't want to change them. Full power to them their voices are perfect.
There are women (like me) who have a traditionally masculine voice and don't want that. And I can say with certainty that my voice is not perfect. I don't care if you think my voice is cute or sexy or likeable or whatever, it's not the voice I want therefore it is not perfect.
In the same way that gender is something that nobody can decide for you other than yourself, your vocal goals are something that only you can decide. If and when you achieve those goals your voice is perfect.
Everybody deserves to be able to reach their perfect voice, but not everyone currently has a perfect voice. Trans women are hot and you can like all trans voices, but that doesn't mean they're perfect. Those are very different things.
Thanks for coming to my Ted talk.

Over a year ago, a trans man asked me about how I discovered that I'm trans. He didn't let me tell the story my way, and then he proceeded to imply that I wasn't trans because I didn't know when I was a child. He always knew that he was trans, and he wasn't able to imagine not knowing. Bro never heard of an egg before. My egg didn't crack until I was in my 30s.
He said "real trans people know and they can't ignore it." Thus separating me from my own transness.
He knew when he was 3 and I'm happy for him, but that doesn't change the fact that I'm still trans even though I didn't realize it until I was 31.
After this conversation, he refused to use my correct pronouns. I'm still blown away by the gatekeeping.
I'm no longer in contact with this person.

Trans Rights Readathon
Things are looking really bleak for the trans community right now, with over 400 anti-trans bills being debated all over the country and increased call for violence against us. This is when we need community most and the book community is coming out strong.
Trans author, Sim Kern, is organizing a readathon in order to raise money for trans organizations around the country. Watch the video below to learn more about the readathon. If you're interested in participating in the readathon you can sign up here.
youtube
My goal is to read 8 books from March 20-27th and to raise 500 dollars for Brave Space Alliance, a Black-led, trans-led LGBTQ+ center located in south side Chicago.
Brave Space Alliance has a special place in my heart as it’s one of the few queer organizations in the south side who are organizing, advocating, and providing needed social services for trans and gender-nonconforming people. They offer access to a community pantry, assistance with housing and covering funeral costs, and have organized several support groups for people of all identities. They seriously do so much for our community with a limited amount of funding. My friends and I have utilized their services several times and it means the world to me that I can repay them by fundraising for them and supporting them in the midst of such violence and hatred towards our community.
This is where you come in. I'm looking for pledges!
Can you pledge to donate $5 dollars for every book I read? Maybe a one time donation works best for you. Even the smallest donation can make all the difference.
If you can’t donate, no problem! Please help spread the word by using the hashtag #transrightsreadathon on instagram, twitter, tiktok, whatever social media platform you're on.
Right now the trans community needs us to unite and proclaim in a loud voice that they are loved and that their voices and lives matter.

can i say something. for years i thought the joke of the song short skirt/long jacket by cake was that he wanted a woman who was hung like a horse. like i thought when he says jacket it was a last-second fakeout because he very obviously meant to say cock. and the rest of the things in the song were just her personality and interests. which were secondary to her awesome penis

nooo please don't give me a wicked little look before wrestling me onto the bed 😖
it would be so unfair if you pinned me down and bit me until i stopped squirming underneath you. more so if you started whispering all the ways you're going to ruin me, laughing while you watch my thoughts leave my head and leak down my thighs.

something about being ruined. not just fucked or teased or even used, but ruined. someone making you unable to think, unable to speak, just moaning and twitching and leaving you unable to ever be satisfied for anyone else, anything else, always needing them, craving them, every hour of the day, being unable to control your arousal anymore, how wet you get, how hard you get, how flushed you become, all because they’ve ruined you.

It's Transgender Awareness Week!
One of our favourite things about making the show is the opportunity to spotlight trans authors, and share our perspectives as trans readers. It's a really scary time to be trans here in the UK, but The Hidden Bookcase has been a little refuge for us, and we hope our trans listeners feel the same way.
If you're looking to diversify your TBR or just want to hear more about great books w/ queer rep, you might enjoy our show! Just search "The Hidden Bookcase," on your podcatcher of choice.

Now that Ghibli's new movie is coming out soon, I've been thinking about anime films and wanna talk about my favorite animated movie ever, Tokyo Godfathers.
Tumblr media
TG is a 2003 tragicomedy by Satoshi Kon, following three unhoused people––an alcoholic, a runaway girl, an a trans woman––who find a baby in a dumpster and set off across Tokyo to reunite her with her parents.
If you like the sound of that, go watch it because the rest of this post is spoilers and I have FEELINGS about this movie.
URGHH, the fact that only two moments of true kindness, generosity, and care given to the three protagonists without any expectation of reciprocity are given by a Latin-American immigrant couple and a drag show club full of trans women. The fact that, despite her loud and dramatic personality, Hana is the glue that holds the team together and the heart of the whole movie. The fact that this movie pulls no punches at showing the violence and inhumanity committed by "civilized Japanese society" against the unhoused. The fact that Miyuki craves to be loved by her parents and ends up seeing Hana as her true mother. The fact that Miyuki starts off accidentally using transphobic language against Hana, but slowly begins calling her "Miss Hana" out of respect. The fact that, according to Kon, Hana's role in the story is as a mythological trickster god and "disturb the morality and order of society, but also play a role in revitalizing culture." The fact that Hana so desperately wants to be part of a true family, yet is willing to sacrifice her found family so they can be with their own, and is rewarded for her good deeds in the end by becoming a godmother. The fact that, throughout the movie, wind and light have been used to signify the presence of god's hand/influence (this movie's about nondenominational faith––faith in yourself, faith in others, faith in a higher power. Lots of religious are referenced, such as Buddhism/Hinduism, Christianity, and Shintoism), and in the climax of the film, as Hana jumps off a building to save a baby that isn't hers, a gust of wind and a shower of light save her from death. The fact that god saves a trans woman's life because she proved herself a mother, and that shit makes me CRY.
