Tusval, Toa of Gravity.

My self moc. Although I loved his previous iteration, there were some small things I couldn't help but nitpick over. So I decided to rebuild him. My goal was to unify the textures a little better- there were issues with the CCBS clashing with the classic Bonk textures. My eternal struggle in moccing. I also cleaned up the torso significantly. No more open pins and semi-exposed back. I also took away his tool, a scythe, for the time being. I thought it fitting for a Toa of an element as powerful as gravity, as it has a lot of potential as a tool/weapon on its own. I'm really satisfied with how this revamp turned out overall.

Lirena, Toa of Gravity (self moc)

My girl Lirena! She's a toa of gravity designed (she was never a matoran) to repair breaches on the surface of the GSR. When this task became useless due to the OOMN forbidding such things, she had to grapple with her role as a redundant machine.

Her weapon is a retrofitted welding tool, and her mask is the kanohi of energy constructs (the Akaku is a placeholder.) The mask allows her to communicate visually as sound cannot travel in the vacuum of space she often worked in. She has a tendency to be very quite and can use these constructs as an aid or replacement for verbal conversation.

Rough mockup for the mask.

Her model has some good poseability and was really my first 100% custom toa build. Ignore the detached tube in the second picture.

So please, leave the dangerous work to our toa troopers; their air powers are all that is needed. If you are a secondary matoran who has somehow found yourself accidentally transformed into a toa, please do not hesitate to seek help at the nearest trooper suva or vahki cortex. They will be glad to help fix you up before you hurt yourself."

I wanna talk about a bit of a... fandom sore spot, for me.

Specifically, the treatment/reception of characters like Stuart from 3Below, or Soos from Gravity Falls, Soren from The Dragon Prince, or even to a much lesser extent Fred from Big Hero 6.

There's a lot of backlash against these kinds of characters. They're the annoying one. Clumsy or otherwise physically inadept, often portrayed as or treated like they're overweight, less intelligent/seen as less intelligent than the protagonists.

The issue is that either the writers treat them like comic relief, or the characters do, or both. They're not treated as full characters in their own right most of the time. Soos was actually pretty well fleshed out, and even then the fandom seemed to treat him pretty poorly; Soren started out this way, from what I saw, and has gained respect. People tear down this type of character, call them annoying, treat them as unnecessary, and no one really bats an eye.

Except these characters have the probably-unintended side effect of appealing to a specific subsection of the fandom. I struggle with my weight due to ARFID, I'm not as intelligent as the onscreen protagonists in the media I enjoy a lot of the time, and I tend towards a goofier sense of humor. If I were to pop into a fictional world I would be That Guy. The annoying one. The one a lot of the fandom's not sure why the protagonists keep them around.

It feels good to feel like maybe the protagonists I admire would like me, and keep me around because of the person I am. But when they're treated like Stuart or Hooty, in the show and outside of it... I feel like I would be unwanted, unwelcomed, and in the way. Like everyone, even my blorbos, would want me gone.

And to be clear, that's not to say anyone's personal taste is inherently wrong. I'm just saying that there's a major lack of compassion or critical thinking with regards to this specific type of character.

Anyway, that's enough venting for one day. Back to my hole.

Barius, Toa of Gravity V2

Mainly a challenge to myself to make a Toa using a good portion of sand purple elements, ended up becoming Toa Barius in his own powered Exo-suit.

He still adheres to TheLegendReborn’s torso challenge and has an Inika torso buried in his chest.

Also he uses the new Dreamzzz joint on his elbows and hips.

A Toa from the northernmost in the west chain of the Southern Islands. Her armor was gathered from scrap left over from the League of Six Kingdoms' uprising, and it shows. Despite her meager resources, she is a brave warrior, and a valiant fighter who never gives up on her Toa Team.
