Why hasn't anyone talked to them: a noncomprehensive list for actual play fans

Are you wondering why your favorite character seems sad or upset or just working through something, and no one else in the D&D party has talked to them at length about it? Here's a brief list of reasons that might give you an idea why!

it has literally been less than 12 hours in game and they spent 8 of them sleeping (or insert appropriate brief period of time without significant downtime)

they are deliberately hiding what's going on with them

they aren't actively hiding what's going on but neither have they reached out to anyone else

other characters have talked to them but it's not the character you want to talk to them so you're pretending no one did

other characters have attempted to talk to them and they have rebuffed them

they're actually doing pretty well but you've projected both your own problems and your desire for other people to psychically intuit them onto them and are really not even talking about canon anymore

they've previously pushed people away or simply haven't built up the connections for this to feel like a natural conversation

sometimes people work through issues at a rate that is different than what you would deem appropriate

sometimes people work through issues on their own by choice

you perceive their situation as a problem but they and/or those around them do not

#i've made this point in like 20 different ways and i will continue to do so it is one of my great pet peeves #anyway i am going to use this list for myself and play it. you can make a 3x3 bingo card if you want with it.

-Boone. It's his favorite holiday except for maybe his wedding anniversary

A Small Noncomprehensive List Of RPGs I Have Written About Romance

Given the posts that have been circulating through my orbit, I think there might currently be a gremlinish interest in this.

What If We Kissed... is a core system that restructures how roleplaying games work. Players set goals for scenes ("I want to be kissed", "I want to doubt myself") and the GM helps them work towards these goals. Players can award the GM points called Honey when they do a thing the player likes, and the GM's role is to use these cues to tell a story that that player enjoys.

My Liege is a hack that modifies any other roleplaying game, changing the core dice mechanic instead to asking the GM for a truth or dare.

It's Getting Hot In Here is a strip ttrpg about exploring the Antarctic when suddenly the boat you arrived on Experiences Technical Difficulties. Mechanics involve taking clothes off and also putting clothes on other people. It also is the only strip ttrpg that I know of.

The Bone Zone is exactly what it sounds like---a ttrpg about 1800s dinosaur necromancy. Also at the end you decide whether to leave yourself vulnerable to the rival you've been sabotaging and antagonizing throughout the whole game.

Tall Lady Castle Game is part of a trilogy about miscommunication and monsters. One of you is a monster living in an old gothic castle, and the other is the handsome intruder who has bumbled into your lair. The sequel games are about being a hot intruder in an old gothic castle and *trying* to be caught by its resident monster, and about systematically failing to notice when you are being flirted with.

Date! That! Mothman! is part of an increasingly incoherent pentology about a world where mothmen suddenly arrived and the US government couldn't destroy them, so it instituted mandatory moth-dating.

Lastly, The Villainess Is Dispossessed is a troupe game where you all play as members of the harem of the titular princess. She has recently been disinherited, but will be allowed to reinherit if she marries well. You could theoretically have more than one person play as the princess, but it's still a system designed to have one player at the absolute center of attention.

American School System Moments that keep me up at night: a noncomprehensive list

- that one time my health teacher got addicted to opioids for half a semester

-finding out my woodshop teacher had a students toenail on a string and wore it as a necklace under his shirt every day

-the one time our science department set the building on fire and i got trampled in a stairwell

-the multiple suicide attempts we had on campus in our middle school

-continuing from the last one: my seminary teacher breaking hippa and making us write notes to every kid that attempted

-my actual pedophile computer teacher that told middle school girls to cover their shoulders in his class because we was ‘sensitive towards that kind of thing’

-my physics teacher saying he’d take us behind the gym and shoot us if we didn’t pass our final

-when a teacher walked up to me cutting myself during silent reading time, stared at me for a minute, and then walked away (the next class period we had a lecture on why self mutilation is a sin)

-every single time my gym teacher would yell “shpread ‘em” when we did squats

-finding my english teacher’s gun in an unlocked closet in seventh grade (ar-15)

I have a question/wondering about if (when if statistics have any thing to say about it) Chet dies what class you think Travis will play? Or your thoughts on type of character you would like to see?

(I myself kinda hope he goes for another high int character - maybe a gunslinger would be interesting to continue to balance out the martial classes with spell casters?

But I do think it would be interesting to add another cleric to the party as well. Maybe cleric of the Moon Domain from Taldorei reborn?)]

Ok so Travis is, as I've discussed, on the (noncomprehensive) Emily, Aabria, Lou list of "I trust you implicitly with whatever character you make and even if I'm not initially won over I believe in you." With that said: I agree he should stick to high intelligence in terms of party composition. I also, anon #2, have really liked the idea of cleric. I know a two-cleric party is a lot to DM for but also I think Matt enjoys being able to really throw something big at the party, and while there are two full healers, Fearne is often better used in high damage and FCG's subclass does still make it difficult, plus were Chet to die that would be the loss of one of your three tanks. However, I think moon domain is a little too on the nose for this campaign. I actually would love to see a high-intelligence knowledge cleric: this would grant expertise in some of those key intelligence checks, and while it's far off, the level 17 ability is not unlike grim psychometry, which has already been an absolute delight to watch. I happen to think the read thoughts ability is obviously redundant in this part...but it also is, to be fair, fucking funny to have. Erathis or Corellon for the deity perhaps? I also happen to love twilight cleric just conceptually and for being incredibly powerful, AND for fixing the whole "no darkvision in the party" problem.

Other options: Eldritch knight, though that might be a little similar to Fjord in some of the flavors; or a wizard who is not too much of a glass cannon. Travis is on the short list of people for whom bladesinger would not make me roll my eyes because I think he could actually manage it (as Emily did so well in ACOFAF). I also would love to see another ranger on CR; the class has come a long way since Vex dealt with the unfortunate limitations of Beastmaster, I feel like a Horizon Walker would be attuned to the Moon Bullshit in a way that is different than anyone else in the party, and like...dump charisma and be smart to address the INT needs, and have twin scimitars like Drizzt except with less goofy names to address the Travis Needs Melee To Live (and He's Valid) needs. Really what I think is important is smart, not too glass cannon, low charisma for comedic purposes, and also I think playing someone younger and more obviously shippable even by cowardly people would create chaos in the party and the fandom in ways I would find highly amusing.
