SO much of ES!Sam's life up to that point is feeling like the odd one out!

when it's just dean and sam, i think sam doesn't feel like he has to try to fit in as hard. when dean's trying to impress/ingratiate himself with dad? for sure. those awkward few hunts after stanford? 100%

but when it's just dean and sam, they might fight and get snippy, but sam doesn't have to put up a front. he doesn't have to put on airs. in fact, we see a couple times in the show that when sam's trying to be something he's not with dean, it's to protect him/protect his feelings.

so for ES!Sam, to have that safe space (lol pardon the phrase) GONE--sam's only completely authentic space (bc even with jess, he had to hide huge parts of himself)--

it would definitely put him off-balance. to sam, dean is choosing a different, better version of sam. ES!Sam felt safe being his own bitchy self with dean, but to have ES!Dean so clearly prefer a version of sam with all that removed, i wouldn't be surprised if ES!Sam felt the pressure to change to meet ES!Dean's new preferences.

which of course he resents! sam spent so much of his life being told to change: by dad, by dean, by other hunters, by himself.

to find out that your only true safe place to land can, does, and will prefer a seemingly faultless version of yourself?? bro. immediately confusing and devastating.

and even outside of the meta-dynamic of their relationship, ES!Sam is confused! and scared!

because he's also in love with dean. so to be usurped so easily both platonically and romantically?? GRAH! it drives sam crazy!

because he's not even sure which parts he's "allowed" to be mad about. he's not sure if glaring at the space where LS!Sam has his knee pressed against ES!Dean's in the car is an "acceptable" platonic jealousy, or if it's part of his sick-wrong-bad possessiveness that ES!Dean is his.

he's not sure if wanting to rip off LS!Sam's face for making ES!Dean laugh like that is annoyance that ES!Sam's superpower is communal or fury that ES!Dean is capable of belonging to someone else.

he's afraid of coming out and saying a lot of it, because what if it's too revealing?? what if he missteps and ES!Dean recognizes that ES!Sam's agonized ire is because he wants to suck his cock until he can't see straight?

he's annoyed and he's mad and he's upset, but bottling it up is all ES!Sam really knows how to do unless he wants to bring their house of cards down!

as for comfort, i think ES!Dean at first would not recognize this at all, lmao. for all ES!Dean's attentiveness to the changes in ES!Sam's moods and needs, he thinks he's just being a little bitch about the whole thing (his regrettable choice of words, not mine).

like c'mon, we're both weirded-out by this whole thing. we're in this together! and being rude to LS!Sam&Dean is not going to change our situation. dean does not take slights to sam lightly, even if the person slighting LS!Sam is ES!Sam.

i think it would take something stronger for ES!Dean to realize that ES!Sam's feelings are genuinely hurt--or at least confused--about the whole thing. ES!Sam avoids him like the plague, and these men do not sit down to talk about feelings, lmao.

maybe ES!Dean stumbles in on LS!Dean & ES!Sam talking, and LS!Dean is obviously comforting him, hand on the back of his neck, and ES!Sam's got a pink nose and shiny eyes and ES!Dean kind of blows up, because what the fuck did you say to him? what's going on in here?

LS!Dean rolls his eyes and shoves him off like go talk to your kid. i'm not here to mediate your bitchfits.

maybe it finally comes out later, ES!Sam not really able to look dean in the eyes, that he's sick of dean being so whipped for LS!Sam, and since when did dean need other brothers?

ES!Dean doesn't know how to express the fact that he's so taken with LS!Sam because this is a brother that wants him back! that needs him back! LS!Sam loves the hunt and he loves dean, and he's not shy about either of those things! if LS!Sam has free time, he spends it with dean. if LS!Sam is bored, he goes to look for dean. ES!Dean is thrilled by the promise of that future, of a sam who is gorgeous and strong and sexy as fuck and wants dean!!!

so he fumbles his way through it like "c'mon, sammy. he's you."

"is he, though? he's...i don't know. it's hard to recognize myself in him. he's...different....than i thought he would be. i guess."

ES!Sam doesn't know how to say that out of the four of them, he's the only one that feels Other. he wants to be part of this, but they don't make it easy.

ES!Sam doesn't know how to navigate on the outside of the Sam&Dean dynamic. he is the Sam in the Sam&Dean dynamic--he's realizing how strange and alienating it is to be not Sam or Dean in that, and he hates it.

"you think i'd put up with some guy that wasn't you?" dean scoffs, and they both kind of stare at each other for a second, because that was dangerously close to the truth.

"listen," ES!Dean follows up quickly, because he's not willing to let those words sit in the air too long, for the off-chance that ES!Sam will have time to process them. "you're my sam, okay? my pain in the ass little brother. this guy is sam, but he's that dean's sam. so. y'know. they're not us. or ours, or...whatever. you're still the little shit i'm gonna bug first."

it's tense for a long moment, unsure if that was too honest, too revealing. ES!Sam's still breathing a little fast, and ES!Dean keeps shifting on his feet.

"you're an asshole." ES!Sam finally says, exhaling, looking genuinely un-strung for the first time in weeks, and ES!Dean practically slumps forward in relief.

"aw, sammy. you sure know how to make a girl blush." he coos, and ES!Sam swats him away, all it's sam, you know it's sam.

and ES!Dean is smiling and rolling his eyes and his hands are still shaking under the table like yeah, yeah, whatever you say.

GAH!!!!!!!!!!!! jealous sam! devastated sam!!! isolated sam!!!

YOU GET IT!!!!!!! YOU UNDERSTAND THE VISION!!!!!!!!!

Alrighty, so the season ended with a teenager (????) getting possessed. She's not going to be traumatized by this whole ordeal. Not at all. /s

So I'm thinking who's ever possessing the girl - Lady White Bone is still my top guess - is going to be the antagonist for season 2. She's really the only 1 who makes sense to me.

Y'all can't Harumi me again. I won't let it happen. It can totally happen again. And most def will happen again.

I'm thinking the Bull Fam is going to take some time to recover for a bit before showing their faces again. The city's going to have a little time to recover from... everything. But it's going to be destroyed worse next season.

I'm not sure if I'll have time tomorrow to liveblog. My sister texted me to remind me that we're going out to dinner, and I'm not sure how long it'll take. I'm still waiting to hear back from her if we still have plans for Friday or shifting it to another week. I'm not sure I'll be able to complete the special on Thursday, so it's looking like it'll be completed over Thursday and Saturday. So, until then!

Something's going on with the box that the Bull Clones were digging up. There was an evil entity hidden inside that possessed DBK and almost ended Red Son. And that entity has now possessed a teenager.

Mei is going to be in danger a lot. Surprisingly less than I thought she would be. I'm happy abut that.

MK giving up his invincibility to better control his powers will backfire on him. Sort of? He's a little softer and squishier now, but he really hasn't been severely injured. Yet.

MK is a decedent of Sun Wukong. Most likely not possible, but still something I think about. And it hasn't been confirmed or denied in the show yet.

Pigsy, Tang, and Sandy are the originals from JttW. This really hasn't been discussed or even hinted at since the pilot special.

Spider Queen is def coming back. She thankfully hasn't come back yet.

The Spider Queen will work with at least 1 other person. Unconfirmed bc she hasn't shown back up yet.

Good morning! I woke to lovely piece of yours with a Yan!Mayor & Yan!LBD with a fem reader. It was a wonderful piece that didn't stretch too long but left me feeling very happy due to the lack of Mayor/LBDxReader content there is here & anywhere from what I can see. If it's not too much trouble, may I please request a reader who can actually fight back against the Yan!duo?

Maybe she gained immortality because the women of her family had witnessed the Mayor's & LBD's powers generations ago, thus building the subsequent generations after the first witness (maybe someone who also caught the two's attention but managed to escape thanks to SWK, his "you should have stayed buried" line has cemented into my head) saw what they were capable of & feared their return. Generational training & horror stories ensue. The day of the ritual arrives & Mayor comes to collect Y/N but is shocked to see her resilience against Lady's call & chains. Maybe she [Y/N] uses the chains against him & he ends up bound instead? Same with LBD (not Bai He possessed tho, pls). I really think they'd be shocked & intrigued about reader's strength & ingrained tactical knowledge added to resistance to both of them... Might be very interesting~.😈

Bonus points if Y/N says something like "I see why you use chains, Chief; you look so darling all wrapped up~!" or "That is a lovely song you sing, but I am not one for such melodies, Baigujing." [<-LBD's real name] Imagine the reactions!

Being part of a family that had gained immortality and power was not always the easiest.

All your ancestors were always present, if they hadn’t been killed.

Your family had gained partial immortality; meaning they would not die of age. But if they were, perchance, given a life threatening wound, they wouldn’t survive.

But that just made your family more careful of how they used their immortality. Every day in your extravagant home you would witness the generations before you, still walking, talking.

It would be eerie to most. But to you, it was normal.

Another good thing that came from your family with immortality, is that among the generations power grew, you being the recent generations, it was strongest for you. It wasn’t very well combat-wise; but it allowed you the ability to deflect an attack and mirror it just as it was performed.

Your family never explained how they harnessed this. But listening in as a child to your ancestors at the alter briefly mentioned a name; Baigujing.

Your family soon brought you with all cheers to the alter, they had dolled you up with traditional robes of white, holding incense sticks and sage.

It dawned on you.

Your family made a deal for immortality. A sacrificial deal. You didn’t know what to feel. You couldn’t feel anything. You were kept in the dark for so long and for what, to be sent like a lamb to the slaughter.

You had no choice but to let it happen.

How else would your family progress.

A cool most wafted around you, a feeling of floating. It was like you were weightless. When you opened your eyes, you were standing, met with two people, a man. He wore a shockingly wide grin.

“My lady will be pleased with this sacrifice. How pleasing you are.” He hummed in an unstable voice.

Chains shot from under your feet, making you reel back briefly, before honing your ability to deflect and conquer the chains, sending them the man’s way; watching as they coiled around him like snakes and held him still in front of you.

The chains were strong, stronger than any you’ve seen; they emitted a soft, ghostly glow. Joining your hands under your sleeves, you kept a blank stare. “I see why you use chains, Chief;” you muttered, watching him stiffen. “You look quite lovely being held by them.” He could hear the coo in your voice, it made him wonder how this was a possibility.

But he didn’t have the time for that, unfortunately,

As the Lady Bone Demon seemed to materialize just behind him. “And what seems to be the problem,” there was a slight sneer in her voice before she laid her eyes on you. “Ah, our sacrifice. What a beautiful one, a shame.” She’d spoke calmly, releasing the Mayor from his own chains you deflected onto him.

“Come now dear, there is no use in resisting. You were chosen to be killed in return for their immortality.” The Lady Bone Demon hummed, walking circles around you, as if she were gliding.

She tried to latch onto you with a chain of her own, letting out a shocked gasp when the chain came back her way and clamped around her wrist. “What a lovely song you sing. I’m not one for such Melodie’s, Baigujing.” There was an eerie silence.

“I see you have done your research on the two of us; but still hadn’t known your family would sacrifice you to my will.” She spoke calmly, releasing the chain from herself once more.

“My dear, how do you deflect my chains so simply,” Baigujing said with a hiss, walking towards you; that’s when you realized how tall she truly was.

“It’s something I was taught..” you would simply respond back to her. She did not seem to buy it, however. But accepted that nonetheless.

“We are taking her back with us. We will hold the family’s end of the ritual; but we are keeping her.” There was a semi-shocked “What?!” From the Mayor, before he cleared his throat and corrected himself when the Lady Bone Demon shot a pointed glare his way, it shut him up very quickly.

“Come now, my dear. Or shall we have to take you by force.” YIU could only respond with a glare. This made the Lady Bone Demon turn her nose up with a huff, before she grabbed your face and tucked you close to her body, so you would not be able to get away. “Come now, let’s start anew.”

You reeled back your elbow hit her in the rib, making her groan in disdain. The Mayor immediately leapt into action. No, literally. He leapt on top of you and held you down. Sliding his hands up your neck and into your hair, he roughly yanked it back, which earned a strained groan from you.

“That was a horrible mistake, dear. For that we will have to discipline you. Since you wish to do this the hard way, we will treat you as you’ve chosen.” Her words were eerie,

And for as long as you would fight back, the more they would break you down.

wynne fascinates me partially bc we have no clue what she really like pre-possession, other than a single conversation, unlike anders. yknow there's a lot of reasons why wynne wanted out of the tower and to go with the warden but i wonder if it was also partially so no one in the circle would notice a personality change bc of the possession

i’m building up some wynne characterisation thoughts in my mind but i think it’s really interesting in that she seems so closely aligned with her spirit, in comparison to anders and justice, who are foils in awakening? justice accuses anders of failing to live up to the virtue of justice, and anders is the one companion who will disapprove of helping justice when you first meet him unless persuaded. whereas wynne seems to exemplify faith, but then again it’s impossible to tell whether she was always like that or if she’s changed at all. it’s like trying to guess anders’ awakening personality if you’ve only played da2. he’s the same guy but also not. there is the difference that faith sought wynne out all her life whereas justice and anders came across each other essentially by happenstance, and in the mortal world where if justice was ever capable of “reading” mortals he doesn’t seem to be able to do it now

i’m really compelled by wynne’s spirit being faith; and she says that she thinks it is a spirit of faith, so that’s a conclusion she’s come to herself rather than it announcing itself. i find that compelling when wynne has such a complicated relationship with the chantry, says she is only religious “to some extent. it does not govern my life, however”, says alistair “got away from the chantry just in time” when he doesn’t judge her for having a child out of wedlock, and yet will fight and die against a warden who defiles the sacred ashes. of course, faith isn’t just religion. it’s also wynne’s sense of purpose, her confidence in sharing her advice, her value for ideals like that of the grey wardens. there’s a really complicated relationship with a virtue there, for it to be the one wynne assigned to the spirit that guarded her all her life

i wonder if with a spirit very in tune with her previous personality, and also by its nature confident and purposeful, it’s harder for even wynne to notice she’s changed

actually, im curious how ninpo works in this verse, bc in rise, ninpo was unlocked through familial trust n love or whatever but THAT aint happening for the next.. while.. in this au from what ive seen

it's still linked to familial emotions but in a more vague sort of way. that vague way meaning its more about strong emotions than like,, good cool wholesome family emotions,,,

raph gets his defending his brothers, mikey gets his also defending his brothers but from SPLINTER this time, Donnie gets his when he chooses his brothers over the (admittedly enticing) offer of a new family with Shredder, and i don't remember how Leo gets his but i think originally he gets his defending Splinter of all people (still his family but like. yowza)

I have an idea tho that your ninpo power set is very dependent on your specific emotions ABOUT your family tho, or like your relationship to them.

like as an example: one of Leo's powers is to control/partially inhabit someones body. if its against their will, it manifests as chains. if its with their full consent, it's way easier to do and manifests as these kind of soft silk strands. it's easier for him to do this to his siblings, or people he knows really well and considers "like family"

and he basically activates it by triggering strong familial feelings in himself. but sometimes those feelings are, for example, frustration that his brothers wont listen to his orders! and that's a strong emotion about family but its not a GOOD one. obviously that makes his power appear as chains, and the possession isnt a ton of fun on the possess-ee's side of things. especially when fueled by negative emotions.

side note tho, possession isnt ALL that Leo can do, he can do other stuff too that isn't as invasive. but i'm gonna wait until i finish developing the powers to really talk about that.

Key differences between Hyper Projection Engeki Haikyuu!! and Gekidan Haikyuu!! (+ Review)

Btw don’t ask me for scans of the pamphlet or bromides bc I didn’t buy them. The only merch I bought was a t-shirt and a towel ok BABY’S ON A BUDGET.

• No “hyper projection” and no rotating stage

• Less emphasis on music and dancing, more on acting

• The stage is level and not on an incline. This means the volleyball net could be on wheels and be rolled around on the stage (in fact, most of the set pieces were on wheels)

• No epic opening or closing sequences

• Very few (if any, I don’t remember) musical interludes—really, there was music only during the volleyball matches

• No Seijoh/Oikawa theme music 🥲 or Nekoma theme (for when they’re briefly mentioned in the announcement of the GW training camp)

• More characters! Seijoh actors doubled as Yukigaoka players/all FOUR members of the Karasuno Neighborhood Association, not just Shimada and Takinoue!

• They really fleshed out the Yukigaoka vs. Kitaichi game! Like, Hinata had actual teammates, it wasn’t just him and Kagz 1 v 1 on the court like it was in the first Haisute (although, I guess it wasn’t technically 1 v 1 then either bc Kindaichi and Kunimi were also there)

• They included even more scenes from the series and stayed even truer to the source material. I think leaving out the music and intense dance breaks opened up a lot of room for this

Some callbacks to Engeki:

• Hinata hums the tune to a musical motif from Engeki but I cannot for the life of me remember which one it was even though I JUST saw it today. If I had to guess (bc the scene involved Hinata imitating Kagz), it was Kageyama’s theme from the first Haisute when he whips off his cape and crown.

• Ennoshita (AND Kinoshita AND NARITA!!) do the “SE〜NO” synchronized clap with the audience (and it made me so so SOOOO happy!!)

Review:

Overall, this production seemed less “dramatic” in the sense that the entire performance (the acting, music, and choreo/blocking) felt very subdued compared to its predecessor. There was certainly a different energy in the theater this time around. My blood didn’t get pumping the same way it did when I saw Start of the Giant and The Tokyo Battle in-person. I believe this artistic direction was intentional. I’m just not sure it’s sustainable.

What I always appreciated the most about Engeki was that the stage performances perfectly matched the high levels of energy the anime possessed. In fact, I would argue it brought even MORE energy than the anime did or ever could in large part due to Wada Shunsuke’s memorable musical compositions and HIDALI’s ingenious choreo.

Music and dance have always been core elements of the OG Haisute to the point that each show had it’s own unique opening/closing sequence, each team had it’s own musical and dance motif, and certain reoccurring events had their own identifiable themes (e.g. the starting lineup before any given match). The true magic of Engeki lied in the music and dancing. Obviously, the cast brought their own magic by always giving 150% to their performances, but they were also matching the energy the music brought THROUGH their dancing/acrobatics. It’s all intricately woven together.

OH, not to mention the original production’s partial namesake: the projections! There was always a level of suspended reality when watching Engeki because the light projections literally helped to merge the manga with the stage. They transformed the stage and backdrop into anything and everything the story needed—manga panels, speech bubbles, a sunset, a volleyball net. They also synced with, you guessed it, the MUSIC to give an absolutely outstanding audio-visual experience.

It really hit me hard when I entered the theater to see that it really was… just a regular stage.

That’s why I question if this production (and any future ones they may have planned) is sustainable. Not in the financial sense… but just in the way of retaining interest. It didn’t get me hooked the same way Engeki did, so I don’t think I’m able to give it the same level of enthusiasm. I’m hard-pressed to believe others feel the same way. Don’t get me wrong—I enjoyed it. It wasn’t bad. It didn’t take anything away from the series… I’m just not sure it added anything to it, either. Sure, there was music and dancing, but it just paled in comparison to what we were gifted by Hyper Projection Engeki Haikyuu. Makes me wonder why they would take so many steps back with this production.

All that being said… I’m glad I went. I truly did enjoy myself and the cast put their all into these characters. And if nothing else, I’m glad to have gone in support of Suga Kenta (OG Hinata) in his Haisute directorial debut.

since I haven't talked about him in a hot minute, how about some chucky hcs!!!

not counting the stitches he gained as scarface, all of the scars Chucky has transfers to all of the bodies he inhabits

for instance, he gained his fair share of scars during his childhood, and almost all of those traveled over to his doll form

another example, he probably cut his fingers or smth while in Nica's body, so those scars would transfer over to his next body as well!

however, if any body he inhabits had scars before hand, they won't come back with him

apart from that, his partial blindness that comes from scarface also travels with him

he curses himself every single time once he realizes his eyesight is still the same

he will never understand that it, infact, never changes

another thing is that he will always maintain his blue eyecolor, even if whoever he's possessing has (for example) hazel eyes

oh! since I mentioned him possessing nica, I have a few hcs about that specifically

he has had times where he has a really hard time standing, like his legs are giving out beneath him

he has since figured out that it was nica trying to gain some power back

he'd grumble and complain while clutching onto a counter for dear life

he absolutely refused to sit on the floor and wait it out since "that's exactly what she wants, tiff,"

(tiff carried him to a chair anyways)

another thing, he got an absolute kick of telling people he wasn't a girl while in Nica's body

he would just let them sputter and try to figure it out

he refused to explain it either

back in his og body (tm), he was actually really wirey

he was a slim lil guy

I like to hc that Eddie was pretty muscley since he was a mechanic n all

so I like to assume he's benched chucky at least twice (with consent ofc)

and I said twice bc once he wasn't expecting it, and the other time, he randomly asked if he could do it again and just

did it for shits and giggles!!

speaking of Eddie, he did the majority of the talking for the both of them whenever they went out anywhere

or just in general

chucky doesn't like talking very much, he likes observing

so he let's Eddie talk as much as he wants

(he was zoned out about 80% of the time)

For Blade&Claw— I wrote it for an AU Roulette challenge, and didn’t like. Make a plan going in and wrote whatever my brain landed on for that one LOL. Which resulted in a series of shortish drabbles, some of which were loosely following scenes from the game, with no real connective writing in between them? So. I’ve had vaaague contemplations of other stuff in that AU setting but nothing that’s terribly actionable. Trailer for a longfic I probably won’t write.

And for the ⭐️- leeet’s say. All Distance and Programming, my weird child of a fic (not shippy, dealing with Arsinoe’s Puppet Thoughts and thus Weird) Dropping it under a break bc I’m gonna ramble.

Arsenic, like the nickname you were gifted, like the green and like your venomous prickling. A joke between you and a dead person. Most of your jokes are between you and dead people, these days.

You’re not any less alone, with him here in your apartment or the apartment one up from yours, because there’s not really a him, just a you sitting in his head like a cuckoo in a nest.

Sometimes, still, even knowing all that, you can almost pretend you’re not alone. Just for a second.

Ars was lonely as hell in between the second breakout and Rebirth, and it got Weird in their brain!!! Connecting to people is dangerous, so they didn’t expose themself like that, but they still Wanted that. It was safe, to be attached to Anathema, who is dead and cannot break their trust or disappoint them. Safe to feel some sort of attachment to Galen, their puppet, because he’s dead too. And he is, of course, a corpse they kidnapped and are possessing, but maybe, just maybe, for a second or two, they can think about pretending they aren’t so painfully lonely because he’s there, too. (He’s not there, he’s not real, and that thought is always present in their head too)

I’m really fond of this fic in general, partially because it’s a little Weird? I do a little bit of perspective fuckery bc Ars is disassociating So Damn Hard when they’re the puppet, and I just think perspective fuckery is fun.

Send me a fic title or a question or ⭐️ and I’ll give some director’s cut discussion of it!

Just some The Winchesters thoughts

So, Millie told Mary offscreen that John's anger issues stem from childhood, and Mary recognizes that she and hunting are excuses for him to act on that anger.

Well, there are a couple of dimensions to unpack here...part of which is going to bring in my psychology degree...

And then I also have some thoughts on angel interference in their relationship- bc I do think we're already seeing it happen on screen.

Nature vs Nurture and John's fate

So, one of the main things I learned when studying psychology was a disturbing fact that sounds wrong coming from an optimist like me, but it's true, and John is a shining example.

I chose to focus on twin studies whenever I had freedom to choose essay topics, because twins fascinate me. I found more than I bargained for. The nature vs nurture debate is the most contested, never settled, debate in psychology, and well - prior to ethics rules prohibiting such, there were some twin studies that really really seem to show that Nature wins out (the short reductive version is they separated twins from a broken home at birth and gave one a lesser/fucked up upbringing and gave the other a cushy upbringing, and they both turned out poorly). That is not to say that nurture has no effect, and it doesn't mean that people cannot change. But if it's in your blood, then it's a verrry verrry uphill battle to say the least.

This is part of why Millie saying John had an anger issue from the start doesn't surprise me. It also is reinforced by the fact that he is surrounded by people who are encouraging him otherwise, and he tries, but it just isn't enough at this point (and as we know, ultimately isn't enough in the end).

John volunteering for Vietnam is partially about being lost without his dad, sure yeah. But it's also a license to channel the violence.

In a way, after getting back from the war, the letter from Henry was basically the fucked-up Hogwarts letter John had been waiting for, wanting for. It lead him on a quest (giving purpose) and to hunting (means of channeling the violence).

2. The Draw of Mary

His need for purpose and connection to this life is a major draw. The letter allegedly from Henry brought him here, but what's keeping him here? He found out the truth. So....

Saving the world is one, but he said it in this scene - that's kind of an afterthought. He and Mary both recognize here that he's using her as an excuse to stay in this. But why?

Because he needs hunting as a license for violence. He can't get that outside of war - so he's found a war to fight in.

3. Angel interference

Have you noticed how everyone is needling them about getting with each other? You could argue Millie doing that is normal bc she's his mom.

But what about Tracy doing that with Mary?

Or Ada encouraging her?

I don't think any of them are possessed or anything like that, but that they themselves have been influenced.

The effect is more powerful if they can make it come from trusted sources rather trying to brute force it. So of course they would try that route first.

Just like the Akreida have manipulated them into feeding them power, the angels can manipulate them into feeding the relationship.

YOU ABSOLUTELY CANNNNN I was hoping someone would ask hehe !!! 🤭 Luckily you've asked at an opportune time bc I just hit 6k words and am prob gonna wrap up the end of the "chapter" at around 8k maybe possibly

She wakes without remembering having fallen asleep and finds herself fully in the ghoul’s embrace. With her back snug to his chest, his hold is almost protective— possessive. It’s the first time she’s awoken in his arms—aside from when she’d dozed on the horse, which didn’t really count as sleeping in the first place—and it makes her stomach flutter despite her persisting bitterness towards him. She manages to turn over beneath his weighty arm, facing him. Morning light streams in golden motes through the broken windows and walls, through the gaping holes in the roof, casting the man’s sunken eyes and hollow cheekbones in heavy shadow. The cattleman hat is put aside somewhere, his other arm folded beneath his bald head like a pillow; her father’s shotgun lays within reach. His eyes remain closed and his body still. She can’t be sure he’s actually asleep, though. Breathing feels difficult as she observes him in this singular momentary peace. Those eyelashes are the only hint of gentleness across the span of his features. Fingertips ghost over his gaunt cheekbone without making contact with his taut skin and she frowns. His gruesome visage grows increasingly more pleasing to look at with time and it makes her angry. It makes her angry that she wants him inside her again. She wants to hate him, but she can’t. She rolls back over, huffing in frustration. The arm slung around her middle tightens deliberately just then, sliding from her waist up to her ribs, crushing her back against his hard chest. The ghoul’s face nuzzles behind her ear, growling low and content in his throat. He hadn’t been asleep at all, it seems. “Well g’mornin’ to you too, sweetheart.” He audibly grins, stretching languidly against the length of her body. His rasping voice teases her, stroking her sour disposition into something more agreeable.

also, from a little later on:

“Where are we going?” she finally has the courage to ask. “What are we doing?” The cowboy has been silent about their journey thus far, and she only vaguely knows his purpose out here past what she’d fleetingly overheard the raiders discussing before he’d slain them all. “I’m trackin’ a bounty. Yer along for the ride,” he replies after a belated moment, patting her belly in a manner almost affectionate. She doesn’t know what a ‘bounty’ is, but she has seen him stalking around in the moments when he rests the horse, following signs on the ground and in the brush that her untrained eyes cannot see. She’d thought nothing of it previously, merely chalked it up to him being strange. Now it makes sense. She can see it in his eyes— always focused, always vigilant. He’s hunting. “A bounty is a person?” “Yes’m,” he grunts. “And that’s what you do? Hunt people?” She cranes her neck to curiously gaze at him over her shoulder. His face is close; she can see the minute texture of his fibrous facial tissue and the cavern of his nasal cavity. One corner of his mouth ticks upward, curving pretty lips; he’s pleased with her deductive reasoning. “Somethin’ like that, sweetheart.” “Why?” His grip around her tightens by a fraction. Unbidden heat pools between her straddling thighs and she must resist the urge to readjust the cant of her hips. “You sure are askin’ lots o’questions, huh?” Teeth flash in a partial smile. “What’s got you chatterin’, li’l bird?”
