ZoSan Scenario
I think a lot about how it really wasn't that many days between escaping WCI and meeting up with Zoro again. I think it was technically less than a week but I find that hard to believe.
Anyway, I think a lot about a reunion between Zoro and Sanji after they save Toko.
Later that evening once the two are alone, the two have an argument. Zoro is angry that Sanji left, that Sanji didn't trust them enough to come get him. He just keeps yelling, close to tears. The fact that Sanji is just taking the scolding, not giving explanation or excuses, is making things worse for Zoro.
Suddenly Zoro grabs Sanji by the biceps to shake some sense into him only to have Sanji cry out in pain. Zoro immediately lets him go, scared he'd actually hurt him by gripping too hard. But Sanji's holding his arm with a pained expression. Silently, Zoro pushes down Sanji's robes to take a look.
Sanji's arm is bandaged. The cook explains he got shot getting Luffy back to the ship on Whole Cake Island. And if that didn't make things bad enough, with his robes down around his waist Zoro can finally see all the damage on Sanji's body. there's an ungodly amount of bruising around his ribs, abdomen, and back. There's new cuts and scars marring his skin and possibly fractured ribs that definitely weren't there the night they spent together before Dressrosa.
And sure some of the wounds are from Sanji's battle on Dressrosa...
But Zoro knows the difference between combat wounds and wounds taken when one does not defend themselves. And all of the most recent wounds and bruises say that Sanji didn't put up a fight.
Confusion and the deepest righteous fury burn through Zoro. "Cook, what the hell happened there?!"
Sanji doesn't say a word. He just bows his head, taking Zoro's anger.
Guilt heavy in his chest, Zoro tries again. His hands come up to cup Sanji's face, ignoring how his lover flinches from him. Zoro fights the fury inside and speaks softly, "Sanji, it's okay. I have you. Tell what happened to you."
Sanji can't help it anymore. He grabs onto the swordsman and collapses again his strong chest, sobbing his heart out. Words so strangled with tears that Zoro can barely make them out.

listen what i'm saying is, I know the perv trope thing with Sanji is annoying and overplayed. i know it is. i know that some of it is Oda's humor and some of it is like. shit that anime always seems to find one character to shunt onto, and I don't like it and nobody likes it but like
pretending that's the only character trait that he has, or refusing to connect the dots through what appears to both be some vestige of the Vinsmoke programming (since ALL of his brothers have the exact same kind of nosebleed awooga behavior despite their lack of other meaningful human emotions), and a strict adherence to anything Zeff taught him (bc children do not process trauma and traumatic events the way adults do, and at that point Zeff was not only his first and ONLY example of paternal love, but the only hand capable of reaching in and stopping the knife he'd been twisting in his own guts), isn't just stupid, it's a deeply shallow and backwards take of an incredibly complex character.
yes, Sanji is flawed. they're all flawed. that's half the point of the story, that people are more than the sum of their parts, or the circumstances of their birth, or their pain.
Sanji's journey in this story so far is one of broken shackles, of healing, of finding comfort in himself and trust in his found family despite how deep the roots of self-loathing and fear run in him. in that way, of course he took Zeff's perspective to heart. Zeff who cut a piece of himself off and chose Sanji's life over his own well-being again and again, when Sanji's birth father abandoned him to torment and death. Zeff, who thought he was wonderful, and kind, and intelligent, and nurtured his potential, and taught him how to make sure nobody could ever hurt him again, when his birth father discarded him as damaged goods. Zeff, who is proud, in his own way, to know what his son is up to, and for people to know that's his boy, when his birth father's only direct words to him were to make sure to never bring him the shame of letting anyone know they were related.
(and that's the wild part, one of the things that really breaks me about Sanji sometimes, is that he kept that promise, too. If WCI hadn't happened he might never have told anyone at all.)
Zeff saved Sanji in every way a hurt little boy could possibly be saved, and so when he said "You never hit a woman, that's wisdom from when the dinosaurs walked the earth." and "Beat any man's ass you want, but if I ever catch you raising a hand to a woman I'll cut your dick off and then myself too for teaching you that." like???
He's not being a misogynist, he doesn't refuse to fight women because he thinks they're weak and frail and the fairer sex that needs to be protected at all costs by big strong men, he respects Nami and Robin and Vivi and refuses to give up on his friends and even forgives Viola despite her almost killing him and agrees to help her, like?? he internalized everything Zeff ever told him, not just how to make risotto really well or how to pair wine to cheeses and desserts.
does Oda sometimes play that up for laughs, or run it to extremes? yeah, absolutely. I actively like to pretend Fishman Island was 10 episodes of political backstory and Jinbei. But those moments of hyperbole aren't the fucking point of his character, or his development, and to pretend like they are removes Sanji--and an incredibly poignant story about abuse, recovery, self-love, and the acceptance and importance of found family--from the story.

Sanji and Pedro
Insight into Sanji’s character
I was watching episode 877 and noticed a very beautiful piece of dialog between Sanji and Carrot regarding Pedro’s death.
Sanji finds out about Pedro sacrificing himself for the others, dying for Luffy and his crew, a part of reason to thank the Strawhats for being kind and helping the minks when they needed help the most. We all know how strawhats are, they do good out of the goodness of their hearts, not expecting any return of favour.
However, Sanji can’t help but feel guilty, thinking that Pedro died because of him, because he joined in this mission in the first place to save him. If there is something I understood from Sanji, is that he doesn’t deal well with guilt on his conscience. Remember back in Punk Hazard when he saved the samurai, this is what he said:
Tumblr media
Even going through the trouble of finding and getting him back safe.
Tumblr media
This trait of his character only becomes more evident in the whole cake island arc when he is terrified of even thinking that something can happen to his crew because they came to save him. Because now he’s not the one protecting them, but the one putting them in terrible danger. This crushes him down emotionally, a weight that is so hard to carry and is portrayed beautifully in wci. One can easily tell how scared and taken aback he is since the moment he sees Luffy and Nami, desperately tries to push them away and goes to his room, tried to convince himself they’re gonna be safe without the trouble of having to save him as he anxiously smokes while walking back and forth in his room. Sanji’s self esteem up to this point was so low that the fact that his friends would go out of their way for him was too good to be true, he didn’t even dared to think about it let alone ask for help. He’s ready to sacrifice himself in any way to save or thank someone. Goodness, he was ready to go through hell again if it meant his friends would go out safely.
Now that this arc is almost over, Sanji’s character development has only catapulted. In this dialogue, we notice something grandiose. Let me show you:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A simple thank you would be enough to thank them. Pedro didn’t have to sacrifice himself in order to express gratitude. Sounds familiar?
Tumblr media
Sanji sees his now ‘past’ self in Pedro, just a bit different. Sanji is someone whose self-worth is something that has been pushed down for him all his life. He was willing to die for Zeff and his restaurant, not really thinking through that how that kind of sacrifice devastates the people around you, the people that care for you. He sees this scenario playing with Carrot and Pedro.
What hurts the most is that, Sanji thinks that that way is the only way he can be useful, when clearly that is not the only way out. Nothing should be payed with your own life. If people are kind to you, that doesn’t give them a right over your life. He has people who care deeply about him, people who not only think he is crucial, but would go beating their limits to save him.
I think our cook had such an amazingly written development after wci, so so beautiful and definitely there is much more to talk about him, maybe in another post.
Thank you for reading!

When it comes to the ASL brothers one “what if” situation I can’t stop thinking about the idea of. What if Sabo named dropped his brothers to Dragon at the grey terminal fires. Like in that scene where he clung to Dragon’s arm and spoke of his hatred to his own blue blood, what if he added in a plea of like “please save Ace and Luffy. They’re my brothers”
Cause like, I don’t know much about Dragon, I’m just wrapping up Zoh and heading to WCI. But he runs a fucking army so he’s not stupid. The name Luffy. Mentioned on an island in the east. As well as Garps home island (and maybe his too idk?) are enough connections to think. Hey, there’s a good chance that’s my fucking son.
But as I said, I really don’t know him well enough to tell if upon hearing this news would he be a “grrr I have a job to do. he will be fine. business bla bla bla >:[“ or maybe a “my sons a fucking child I need to make sure he’s ok >:0” I do think a small parallel scene to loguetown arc of like Luffy meets dragon would be hella cool (maybe he got lost from the bandits in the fire and Dragon beat up a pirate trying to hurt him) and they just stare for a moment before dragon points the way silently and Luffy runs off cause how tf do you pull the I’m your father card when your son is literally being traumatised right this very second.
But even if that DIDNT happen. When they eventually pluck a dying Sabo out of the water like a fucken grape. Dragon would know Sabo has more family there then just his parents, he had brothers. Would that result in Sabo being dropped back with them? Or maybe he gets his memories back earlier when Ace first makes a name for himself??? Would Dragon do his fucken research or at least encourage Sabo to early on in revolution school to find out what was left behind???
I SWEAR I NEED TO HURRY THE FUCK UP ON ONE PIECE SO I CAN START MAKING UP FICS AND AUS CAUSE I NEED TO MAKE THIS A THING BUT I NEED TO KNOW MORE ABOUT DRAGON TO KNOW WHAT IS AND ISNT A STRETCH OF HIS CHARACTER. RAAAAAAAA

Oh I love the warlord!Sanji au it feels so chaotic with that kid! must have been some childhood huh
gosh what if sanji doesnt actually tell the crew abt his weirdass family even after meeting again? maybe he and his parents decided that keeping distance would be best cause now nearly all of the shichibukai are wanted criminals and it would be dangerous to have Sanji's identity knwn to the govt. how would the straw hats even find out here? it ought to be really funny but i cant think of smthing proerly dramatic enough
I think what's funnier is if no one in the government knows that black leg is Sanji who grew up in the Warlord meetings. And then when it all goes down in Marineford? Wondering why the fuck the almost all the Shichibukai have turned around to help Strawhat after not hearing the yelling. Just watching all the warlords leave after Redhair shows up.
And then in Dressrosa Doffy calls the others, in a similar vein of Alabasta and is like "our child is dumb and I'm slicing them up." And Jinbei is like "They've declared war on Big Mom."
So many groans and Boa screaming about them being dumb! Then Sanji's new poster comes out and Doffy after the ship wreck makes it to the crossguild and is like "MEN OUR CHILD!" And even Boa is there and Buggy is cowering in fear.
"Yes, we are aware, Doffy. Pity about the photo but at least it's not that awful drawing anymore." Mihawk sighs.
"Did we ever figure out who their birth family is?" Boa asks.
"No, I have Daz and several others working on it now." Crocodile answers.
"I'm sorry who is your kid?" Buggy asks meekly.
"Black Leg Sanji." The Warlords answer in unison.
"Jinbei said he's joining the crew though." Mihawk mutters.
"I can't believe he gets to join the crew." Boa whines.
"You're a queen and your obsession with our child's captain is weird." Doffy scolds.
"You know you've made a mistake if Doffy is telling you that, Boa." Mihawk says. Buggy just keeps whipping 'what the fuck' to himself over and over again. No one pays him any mind as they just keep working.
Luffy probably forgot all about it and Sanji doesn't mention it. Zoro never found out because when Perona was patching up Zoro and the green haired man falls asleep he's like "So we can't tell him" and Perona is like "No shit Sherlock"
Sanji and Jinbei don't make a scene in Fishman Island and no one acts like Sanji spent a lot of time there. Sanji fully expected to get sliced by Doffy.
Idk what would be funnier if WCI happens as canon or if the other four warlords meet up with Jinbei and the rescue team. More likely it's the first. Wano is canon I feel like.
And then Kizaru sees Sanji on egg head and is like "Sanji? What the fuck? You're Blackleg Vinsmoke?" And Sanji just diable jambe's him when he's distracted.

Really enjoy reading your thoughts and seeing your artwork on SaNami moments. You capture them so well! I'm sure you get plenty of these kinds of questions so apologies for asking about another one.
What are your thoughts about a SaNami marriage proposal and how do you think it would happen?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Finally I got to answer this question!!! It took me months because I really couldn't decide how it would be. I'm so sorry! First of all thank you so much for saying this, it means a lot to me!!! Hope you like this post as well!
Here goes my thoughts about it... Warning for a VERY LONG post! (Almost a fanfic lol)
Sanji always wanted to marry Nami. Ever since he first saw her! Even more after they shared their feelings for each other, their first kiss...
They weren't even together yet when he bought the ring he would use to propose to her. They had stopped by an island famous for their diamonds, and when he was going to buy supplies, he saw that ring on a jewelry shop.
He just knew Nami-san would love it (he was actually lucky he found it before her, otherwise she would have already stolen it lmao), just didn't know when to give it to her. It had to be on a very special ocasion.
Time passes, the special ocasion never seemed special enough. Deep down he knew it was a engagement ring and it would only suit for a proposal... and then, they got together. Like, all his dreams became true. He could finally ask her to marry him, right?
Could he? Should he? Was he actually enough to give Nami all the wonders she deserved?
It's been some time since he last doubted his value that much. He learned his lesson in WCI, but... would Nami want to spend the rest of her life with him? Because that's what marriage means to him. Could he actually make her happy for that long?
On the other side, Nami always new, deep down, that a relationship with Sanji would last as long as she wanted. She had that kind of power over him, but more importantly, she was completely in love with him. Being with Sanji just gave her that comfort of knowing she would never be alone again, a feeling that she would be happy forever. Yes, forever. If it depended on her, their relationship would be for the rest of their lives.
She just didn't say these things out loud all the time. Nami just assumed, after such long time as nakamas, and then as lovers, Sanji knew this already.
Nami knew Sanji wanted to marry her. He always talked about growing old together, kids and family. But as time passes, she tought it was actually weird he never proposed.
She even started to doubt herself. What if Sanji didn't want to marry her afterall?! What if he didn't love her?
Yeah, no. That's silly.
There's got to be a reason. Nami swore to herself, after rescuing Sanji from WCI that she would not misread his feelings ever again. So she started to provoke him, once in a while showing him pictures of wedding dresses, talking about the married couples they met at islands and how it would be sweet to be like them... sometimes she would even say she always wanted to rob a engagement ring, but didn't have the opportunity.
And then.. she would observe his reaction.
Sanji got nervous a little everytime. However, she could see a spark in his eyes when he said no other woman would look as beautiful as she wearing those dresses... or that any life they chose would be the best, as long as they are together...
But then.. He would sometimes ask her if that's what she wanted. If she could she them together for that long when they saw old couples passing by... How perfect she was and how she deserved the best of the best forever.
And then it clicked her. Yeah, this time she read him well.
That damn traumatized man. How big of a idiot he was. How many times did she have to tell him she loved him? Nami even got a little angry when she realized he was actually insecure.
How can a man like him fight the worst enemies in the world without any fear of death, and at the same time be afraid of being rejected by a woman who openly said the loves him?!?!
Oh well. Guess she did had to give him a little push.
Sanji already planned a thousand times his proposal, but he would never think any of the possibilities were good enough. He was thinking so much about it, trying to get the courage to actually do it, that he would always carry the ring with him anywhere they go.
He never new when or if he would do it. He wanted so, so bad to ask her. He needed to.
One day the crew stopped by an isolated island. There were only a few small villages around, but the place was beautiful. One of the most amazing beaches they ever saw.
Before Sanji could think of anything, Nami asked him to take her on a walk at the beach on sunset. Of course he said yes with big heart eyes.
The crew were all exploring the island while they went the other side, walking by the sand till they were distant enough not to be seen.
Sanji was not prepared by how beautiful Nami looked (he never was). She was wearing a simple, yet gorgeous, green dress. He could see she even put on a little make up. This was an actual date, he thought.
Nami hold his hand really tight, she knew this was her chance to tell him what he needed to hear. This time she was the one who felt nervous.
Nami stopped walking and stared deep into Sanji's eyes for a while, without saying anything. She had planned telling him how she valued him and how she wanted to be with him till her final days. However, when she was about to say anything, she notice Sanji's hands trembling while holding hers.
He started to caress both her hands and looked down at them, avoiding her eyes for a few seconds.
What a big idiot he was.
He knew Nami better than any man ever could.. He connected the dots... Sanji glared back at her, he sensed her uneasiness. How could he doubt himself so much he let her realize that and want to reassure him?
He always admire how smart and determined Nami was. Why would he doubt her decision to be with him?
Suddenly a wave of courage overflowed him, and Sanji got on one knee right in front of her.
He never been so scared in his life, but if he was to be rejected, it better be after actually having the guts to ask her, right?
Nami froze for a second. She was planning on giving him a little push, but she never thought he would actually... propose?! Not that she didn't want it. She never got so many butterflies in her stomach like in that moment. How did he know what she was going to say? Was that observation haki?
Before she could think anything further, he slowly let go one of her hands and got something on his pocket.
Wait, did he actually had a ring all this time?! How didn't she notice? She wasn't the catbuglar she once was... erm, not that it mattered now. She quickly paid attention to him again.. and damn. He opened that little box and showed the most beautiful ring she ever saw in her life (and no one knew about jewelry like she did).
Sanji slowly started to speak, his voice trembling a little.
"N-Nami-san... I'm sorry I took so long to finally do this...
I love you more than anyone or anything in this world. I don't know if I'll ever be enough for you, or if I'll be able to give everything you deserve in this life... But I swear making you happy is and will always be my priority. Even though I'm a big fool...
Will you marry me?"
Damn right you're a fool. She already forgot about the ring while looking into his eyes while he spoke. She couldn't contain her smile.
Finally, she thought.
"Yes, I will."
She said, very affirmative, so he wouldn't misheard it.
His eyes widened, like he wouldn't believe what she just said. In seconds, he couldn't even see her straight for how many full of tears his eyes were.
"R-really? Am I really worth of... of spending the rest of my life with you?"
She sighed. Eyes also tearful.
"Of course, you idiot."
I don't even have to say they hugged and kissed right after!
That day the Thousand Sunny had one of it's biggest parties.
About the wedding itself, let's talk about it some other day!
If you got till here, hope you enjoyed it.
I would love to hear everyone thoughts!!! 🧡💙

" The Flower In The Midst Of The Ocean " : Sanji x GN!Reader, angst : Hanahaki AU, slight WCI (Whole Cake Island) spoilers.
genre: romance, fantasy
Tumblr media
* warning : violence, death, suicide, slight WCI spoilers
POV ; Third person
Tumblr media
~ 4, 400+ words
It was another beautiful day to be on the ship for everyone. The boat gently rocks back and forth with the soft waves of the sea under a shining sun; it was truly a beautiful day.
Unfortunately, not for you. You were cursed with a love spell, a cruel one.
It was a love that wasn't meant to be. Even if you badly wanted it.
Coughs erupt from your throat violently, blood colored flower petals leaving along after. It was painful—really, really painful. But not as painful as knowing that Sanji won't love you like you love him. It was poison to you to be inlove with someone who doesn't even love you back.
It was slowly killing you.
Flowers grow to be beautiful individuals, each and every one of them were just as beautiful as they are. Just like the one you were cursed with. It was slowly growing inside you. You had caught the unfortunate disease that even cupid feared; The Hanahaki disease.
It was a rare disease one can get while loving another who doesn't love them back.
Masking a smile, you try to act normal as if you weren't slowly reaching your death. You went to Chopper and told him about this, the poor boy nearly broke down and cried after finding out that the disease was uncureable, the only way to get rid of it is by death or surgery.
But even surgery can't help. Even if you proceeded with the operation, you'd be left with nothing but empty emotions. Removing the flower growing within you meant having no sense of love and emotions. It was a cruel disease. You begged and convinced Chopper not to tell anyone—especially Sanji.
After the event of telling the doctor and finally getting him to shut his mouth about the situation, you left the clinic and acted like nothing happened. You saw as the other Straw Hats played around with eachother with happy grins and laughs filling the ship, unaware of the news that will forever distraught them. Their laughs and smiles were contagious, but they weren't as special as Sanji's.
The way his hair sway and flow against the soft sea breeze all while he talks with the ladies, Nami and Robin. His words were inaudible from your position but you could tell he was genuinely happy and inlove with them.
His eyes shone brightly as his smile was wide and genuine. How you wished you made him that happy to make him fall for you too.
You know fully well Sanji loved the ocean—You loved it too. His ocean eyes were mesmerizing, just a simple glance and it already took ahold of your heart.
A sudden rough cough caught your throat, you turn your back away from the crew and hurriedly rushed to the bathrooms with them being unaware of anything.
Locking yourself in the bathroom mirror, your coughs came unleashed.
There you spat out a petal after another. It was silky smooth and soft to the touch with your blood splattered on it.
One petal after another.
It hurt, tears swelled up your eyes. Your lungs felt like it was on fire, the thorns grew inside and were starting to grap ahold on your lungs, blocking your air vent. Your mind felt dizzy and lightheaded. It was all too much.
Ever since you met Sanji two years ago at the Baratie, that's where it started growing. The slight disgust was obvious in those gorgeous blue eye of his whenever he looked your way, it was bittersweet.
How you wished it was easier. You wished Sanji could see you the same way you see him. You wished he could hold you. You wished he could smile at you like the way he smiles at others.
Cleaning up after yourself, you left the bathroom and came to a secluded spot of the ship where you could gaze over at the sea without anyone else around.
The sea breeze hit your skin, caressing you with its cold air.
The ocean was so lovely, so tempting. Just like his eyes.
You've been engulfed with his love you longed to feel from him. Tears swell up in your eyes as you blankly stared at the ocean ahead. Your heart skipped a painful beat as you feel something come out your throat. Coughing violently, you coughed out more flower petals into your hand. It was bad enough as you managed to puke out some blood, tainting your hand.
Gazing at the bloody mess on your hand, you were then reminded how you've wasted so much time in your life trying to hold onto his hand.
You were aware how precious his hands are to him. He always avoided using them in fights, always avoiding to stain them with blood.
Whenever you tried to sneak up to hold or even touch his hand, he'd immediately pull away with disgust. "Y/n, can you not? Your hands are tainted with blood, i don't wanna touch it." You'd remember him speak of those words that still left a pang in your heart. Ever since then, you avoided trying to touch him, disgusted in your own body.
It hurts, as if a knife was constantly stabbing your heart. It was as if Cupid missed his arrow as it was unfortunate enough to hit you in the heart to be inlove with someone who despises you. It truly makes you wonder; could a heart still break once it stopped beating?
You choked out a sob, tears streams down your supple flesh with the salty teardrops falling down to fuse itself with the ocean. Oh, how the ocean is beautiful, but so dangerous and merciless once you've been engulfed with the waves' gentle caresses. Your heart ached with longing. Longing of his touch, his voice, his loving gaze—his love.
"I... I love you, Sanji."
Those words left your mouth inbetween soft sniffles, leaving a bittersweet taste on your tounge.
"But you're not mine. Probably never will be til the end of eternity. How i hope that one day, someone will hold you, nurture you, care for you and love you like no one else. How i hope that someone will give you the world and explore the All Blue with you. How i hope, and hope, even if that someone isn't me."
You'd mutter solemnly, eyes still locked onto the sea hitting against the ship of the Thousand Sunny Go. Your eyes glimpsed a small sparkle of hope as your own words.
But alas, not all moments like these last long.
A battle cry was heard along with the all powerful wave of conqueror's haki washed over you. This caused you to jerk your head upward, seeing a familiar set of pirates you hoped to never see again, the Big Mom pirates. You stiffened up, gasping in utter shock and disbelief to see the tall giants in the distance. It was Katakuri and Smoothie, although they looked injured from the battle not too long ago when Sanji was held hostage in an arranged marriage.
You silently hoped that Pudding wasn't on that same ship, or else you'd just have another breaking point. You then just decided to focus on fighting with the Strawhats instead.
"Enemy in coming!" You shouted, alerting the others as they prepare to be in battle once again. Everyone was still a bit rough—especially Luffy, his battle with Katakuri was one of his longest and hardest battles.
"GAH! It's them again!" Nami screamed in fear, obviously not thrilled upon seeing them once more. Nami, along with Usopp and Chopper, all huddle with eachother. Zoro only ever looked at them, scoffing as he unsheathed his swords with a loud schwing as the blades shine brightly under the daylight, prepared to fight and defend.
Sanji was busy cooing and swooning for Robin and Nami, making your heart wrench at the attention he was giving to both women but not you. "Nami-san, Robin-chwan! your prince is here to protect you, don't you worry, my princesses!" He'd speak with a loving tune. Your breath hitched as it threatened you to cough and choke out flower petals, you slapped a hand to your mouth and swallowed down the coughs with a metalic after taste of your blood with a faint taste of fresh flower petals. Your lungs grew heavy as your heart rate grew fast. It was getting hard to breathe, it felt like there were vines covered with poisonous thorns was taking a hold of your heart, wrapping around it like a snake would with it's prey, waiting for it to suffocate from lack of oxygen before feasting upon it.
"Fuck- breathe, breathe, Y/N, breathe." You'd mutter along a few cusses to yourself, trying to steady your breathing. You needed to keep it together, be strong, don't let the crew down.
From afar, Luffy eyes you with a nonchalant expression. He turns forward, looking at the giant ship coming closer. He looks at Katakuri in the distance, both nodding at eachother slightly as they held respect for eachother from their last encounter.
"Bring it on!" Luffy roars out, throwing his fists in the air with newfound determination as the battle comenses.
You try to focus your vision, biting your inner cheek as you fought of some of the henchmen that managed to climb onboard. You cringed slightly at the sight of their blood splattering on your skin, each time you see a glimpse of it reminds you of your own bloody mess from the disease.
"Die!" One of the henchmen yells out, taking the chance on taking the advantage of your vulnerable state in mind. You winced loudly in pain as you took the hit from the back.
"SHIT!" You cussed out, stumbling forward as you held your chest area in pain. You grottee your teeth, quickly fending yourself by the others before rushing off to somewhere safe. Blood instantly rushes out of your wound, you were starting to feel light headed, your body felt so heavy and so numb. Your vision slowly gets blurry.
He hit a near a vital spot.
Shaking slightly, you reach over and grabbed a few bandages from your pockets and desperately wrap yourself up. Whilst being weak and vulnerable, you were then caught by the hands of a giant.
It was Smoothie. She eyes you blankly as you gasped out, squirming in her hands as she lightly presses on your wound. You lost too much blood as your vision went all black.
It felt so lonely.
So dark.
So cold.
You were trapped in a void of nothing for what it felt like for an eternity. You were locked up, forced to revel in the memories where it hurt the most. The memories of Sanji and you flashes upon your vision. Even if it hurt, you took the moment to admire Sanji in your memory.
How his lips would curve into a smile, how his eyes shine brightly under the sun, how his hair was gently being blown by the wind.
He was sickeningly beautiful. You love him so, so much even if he depises you. He's all you could think about. Your reason and will to live, just to see him smile even if it wasn't made for you.
Not only that you love his physical features, no, you loved how he treated others. How he was kind, gentle, nurturing and caring. He was so passionate, like a fire that will never go out even if you splash water on it.
You were like a moth to his flame, you could never resist him. He was one of a kind. Seeing these memories makes you feel warm. It was nearly how it would feel if Sanji wraps his arms around your form. He was safe, he was home that you wished was yours and yours alone.
However, all of it felt like it was being pulled away. This made your heart pang as this was your only moment to have a moment with Sanji even if it wasn't real. You struggled—you fought for your memories to not slip away. You slowly managed to stir yourself awake, you groaned out softly when you felt a slight pain in your head with some missing memories. You looked up with your vision getting clearer.
A gasp left your throat when you saw that you were tied up. That wasn't the reason why you felt dread in your veins, the reason was that Pudding was in the same room as you, pulling out your memories with her devil fruit power. Her expression was evil yet desperate, it was as if she was digging up all of your memories of Sanji to keep it for herself.
"Stop!" You protested, squirming in the ropes that restrained you as Pudding gasped, seemingly startled by your sudden cry.
"Don't worry, i'll make it quick. I'm just keeping your memories of my precious husband for myself." Pudding laughed, her eyes glinting a swirl of emotions that she tried to hide. Your heart nearly stopped when she reffered to Sanji as her husband, you wanted to break down and gag but you didn't wanna lose your memories. Not like this.
You try to fight, coughing petals and blood out violently along the process as tears pricked your eyes. "S-Stop! don't take him away!" You cry out, gasping as you try to free yourself.
"Sanji... Sanji.." Pudding whispers his name like a prayer, almost in a trance as she deliberately took your memories of Sanji. With the sound of scissors cutting your memories off, she had successfully took them, making you go stiff and have a huge headache.
You let out a groan of pain, your brain feeling fuzzy and all over the place. Pudding steps back, gazing at your memories of Sanji she held in her hands. She looked at them as if they were the most precious thing in all of the seas. She giggled, mumbling to herself as she continues to admire them.
Feeling the ropes loosen, you managed to break free and flee from the room with Pudding occupied. You breathed out heavily, your memories and emotions all over the place. You then found yourself on the deck with the battle still on going but you couldn't focus on anything, it was all so dizzy and painful. It was so hard to breathe.
You were having a mental breakdown.
Everything started to feel loose, it felt so dizzy yet so painful. It was too much for your brain—you didn't know what to do.
"calm- please, stop. calm. p-please..!"
You began to ramble, holding your head as the loud noises defeaned your ears along with tears rolling down your face like a river. You couldn't calm down what so ever. Everything was all jumbled up, you didn't know where to start. You couldn't grasp onto anything but your hair.
"Y/N!" A faint voice calls out for your name. Your body turns to try and see who it was, but unfortunately you were only seeing a faint blur of colors that represented Zoro's clothes before suddenly you were tackled down by Pudding herself. She cries out, roughly pushing and pinning you down with slight struggle as she roughly stuffs your memories back into your head.
You couldn't hear or see properly but you felt warm tears drop down to your skin, all coming from Pudding as she continues to stuff your memories back down into your head messily.
Attempting to get up, you managed to push Pudding off of you and stand up, feeling a little dizzy yet complete with your memories back. The battle cries, the shouting and the sounds of swords clashing together slowly came to your ears before ever so suddenly...
You were pushed into the sea water.
A gasp left you as you caught a glimpse of Pudding pushing you overboard with a look of frustration displayed on her face. She looked furious.
"Your memories of Sanji-kun... It was only him despising you! E-Every single memory of it were nothing but his gaze full of disgust towards you!"
You heard her speak but you were too engulfed in the sea.
The sea was calm and welcoming, yet it was so dangerous and deadly. The sea water caresses your body almost lovingly, pulling ypu deeper and deeper down into the depths as it slowly forced itself down your lungs as oxygen left.
Water replaced itself inside you as air escapes. Your poorly-wrapped bandages loosening around your fresh wound as it slowly untangles itself around your body. Your blood was a deep-dark red, yet it seem to mix in with the sea water ever so gracefully as if it was meant to be even if they were the opposite.
The sea took you in its arms, welcoming you to a near death.
You slowly closed your eyes, embracing the ocean's cold yet comforting waves. Flower petals flew out in between your lips, scattering into the water. The curse within you seem to have greedily drinking up the sea water as your heart pumped rapidly. Your tears tears and your metallic blood blends in slowly but surely with the water as if it belonged there.
Seeing nothing but the darkness, you didn't expect to feel slim and smooth hands to hold your body. The touch was warm yet firm.
It was Sanji who dived down and saved you.
He held you close to his body, attempting to share his body warmth to your cold body as he brings the both of you up to the sea's surface. Upon popping your heads up, Sanji gasps out as he sees you, a twinkle in his eye through his wet blomde hair.
"y/n-san.." He spoke of your name softly, moving the wet hair away from your face delicately as he held you.
However, you coughed out the water that invaded your lungs with a few vines and flower petals pooling out with the rest. It was painful.
"Are you.. okay?" Sanji mutters, his gaze still locked on you. His expression was unreadable but it was soft, a small hint of vulnerability in them aswell. He was out of character, he's suddenly all soft and needy with you. It felt... wrong.
"Why're you doing t-this?" You cough out, your voice raspy. Your body and mind being so, so drained from everything. You felt incredibly weak.
"I've realized that i... I love you, Y/N. I'm so sorry i've treated you badly—i was just afraid. I was confused with myself, my feelings. I tried to hide it but i ended up treating you like you were nothing. I shouldn't have done that." Sanji confessed, his tone soft yet there was an underlying emotion hidden.
No, no... it felt so wrong. It didn't feel right.
"No, no no, no..." Your words came out in a string, shaking your head slowly as you denied all of his words. Your eyebrows furrowed as you looked at him eye-to-eye. Your heart ached but it all felt so wrong, the vines wrapped around your heart tightened inside your chest as you muster up the courage to talk and speak, slowly piecing it together, bit by bit.
"Sanji, y-you're being mean. Stop it, stop it." You stopped him.
"I've been second to Nami and Robin in your eyes, probably not even anywhere near that. I will not be the p-person you settle for just because you cannot have her or any of them... I won't- I won't do it." You let out, taking a moment before speaking in a shaky voice that left you breathless.
"Not when i've spent my whole life loving you while slowly reaching my death." You breathed out almost painfully.
"We're... We're not meant to be."
"B-But- Y/N-" Sanji tries to speak but the both of you were cut off by a scream. You both look over in surprise, seeing Pudding was the one who screamed.
She fell into the water, attempting to shoot you dead earlier before.
"Pudding-chwan!" Sanji gasped out, watching and seeing as Pudding fell in the ocean a few feet away from you and him. He pulls himself away from you, swimming and diving down to save Pudding almost instinctively, making her his priority while he simply left you. As if he forgotten you.
You struggled to keep yourself afloat above the water's surface but it was hard, your body was drained and weak from the fresh wound. The ocean engulfs your body once more, slowly sinking you down to the deep depths while you only watched as Sanji grab onto Pudding, pulling her up to the surface.
Maybe he only went after her because of her devil fruit, making her more weaker than you. Maybe he just went after her because he still loves her.
Maybe.
Just, Maybe.
Then again, even after saving Pudding, he only stayed up above the surface with her, holding her tightly as she snuggled tightly into his chest like he was her lifeline.
What about you?
Why did it have to be you? Why did it have to be Sanji that you fell inlove with? Why couldn't you just move on? Why couldn't you just fall inlove with another? Why, Why, Why.
These questions swirl around your mind as you're starting to lose consciousness, slowly but surely. Everything felt like a slow burn of nothing but pain, the ocean had always tempted you but now it has gotten a hold of you as it pulls you deeper and deeper. It was almost peaceful.
Soon, you were finally one with the ocean.
You are finally the flower in the midst of the ocean, floating around the deepest darkness of the sea as a lone plant, drinking up the sea as your only source of living.
Atleast your curse was finally over.
However, a different curse was now set upon Sanji. It felt heavy. It felt so crushing, so worthless of him to see you have already passed away in the ocean that he dearly loved.
It was haunting for him. Your face was plastered into his mind, it was sickeningly sweet. He hated it yet he loved it. Everyone grieved and mourned at the loss, having you no where near them now.
Everyone broke down, especially Chopper. He told everyone your condition and the curse you had, this made Sanji break down more. All felt like he could never forgive himself for treating you so poorly all this time. He regretted everything now that he'd fallen for you.
You fell first, he fell harder.
But it was too late.
He could've saved you but he was too careless, he was too selfish and occupied by other women than you. He didn't even realize you were hurting—how horrible of him. He could never forgive himself after this event. After the long between the Strawhats and the Big Mom Pirates, they used all of Coup De Burst to successfully escape after a few failed attemps.
Everyone was worn out but they were devastated at their loss of a dear crewmate. They couldn't believe it.
It was now late at midnight, every Strawhat was passed out to sleep from grief and exhaustion. All but Sanji who stayed all night up. He was leaning against the railing, smoking a cigarette. He felt truly horrible with himself, he was devastated and mourning at your loss. But he felt like he didn't deserve to, after all that time of mistreating you, it all led to this. It was all his fault.
"I'm sorry i'm the one you love, Y/N. No one will ever love me like you again, after all i've done." Sanji mutters out into the dark, starry night. He puffed out his cigarette, letting the smoke flow freely around him.
Tears pricked Sanji's eyes, looking down at the ocean with a deep frown, feeling nothing but emptiness, regret and guilt devouring his whole body. He puffs out another round of smoke, unaware that your spirit was around, listening silently to his rambling along his soft cries and sniffles. Sanji continues his small mental breakdown, crying out into the ocean as it captured his tears beneath the swaying ship. His hand went up to pull on his hair, a horrible habit of his when he felt incredibly hopeless and stressed.
"Why.. Why would you stuck around me like that even after i was hurting you. Why would you spend so much time with me? I.. I killed you. I'm so, so sorry."
"I'm so sorry."
"Y/N.. I'm sorry."
"I love you."
"i love you too, Sanji." A whisper of the wind passes by Sanji's form, sending shivers down his spine as he choked out a gasp in between a cry.
Slowly but surely, he looks back down at the ocean, seeing a singular flower floating by in the midst of the waters. The moonlight shines brightly down at that said flower, highlighting it seemingly soft petals as it blooms just right before him. His heart ached painfully, but it felt right. The sea breeze cradled his skin, making him let out a soft sigh. His hand droops down ontop of the railings, his cigarette falling from his grasp as it dies down by the sea.
"The All Blue."
"I'll find it for you."
From then on, that singular flower that drifts and floats around the midst of the ocean continues its little journey on following the Thousand Sunny.
It wasn't alone anymore.
No one ever knew of this story, it was all a distant memory now that Sanji found the All Blue many years later. He had fulfilled his quest, and by doing that, he finally rests in peace.
In the great seas of the All Blue. He drowned himself there, a flower bed caressed his body where he laid in the sea. It was warm, comforting and welcoming.
It grew from the inside and out.
Hanahaki Disease, a disease even Eros feared. It has its own cruel story, it was almost a punishment. But of course, not all cruel stories has a cruel ending. Some of them, such as this, ends just rightly.
Atleast for Sanji's case it was.

OH MY GOD IMAGINE TRANSFEMME YONJI TRYING TO PICK A FIGHT WITH SANJI DURING WCI AND SANJI OBVIOUSLY REFUSING TO FIGHT HER BECAUSE HE DOESN'T HURT WOMEN AND YONJI DAMN NEAR BREAKING DOWN CRYING BECAUSE SANJI AND REIJU ARE THE ONLY PEOPLE WHO ACTUALLY SEE HER AS A WOMAN
Sorry I was thinking about the ask I sent last night and this happened
DON'T DO THIS TO ME SO EARLY IN THE MORNING C'MON 😭😭😭
Sanji has the finest gaydar for trans people. I am so sure about that. Especially when it comes to trans girls because he would definitely say something like "You don't need to tell me to know you have the soul of a woman" or some cheesy, gentleman thing like that. If he can have a mellorine detector I am 100% sure he knows when he's in front of a woman even if the girl hasn't even come out yet.
He just knows something's like, different about Yonji and she's having a whole gender crisis while WCI happens and Sanji can't fight her. Like- It doesn't feel right to do so. And he knows she's hiding something and she's suffering and he has seen this before but he doesn't even go there. It's not his problem and he will not help the one who hurt him. So not fighting her is alright, but he's not going to help her either.
Eventually, he ends up finding out, either thanks to Reiju or because Yonji has said some very suspicious things that make it obvious she's a girl. And it just kills me to think about Yonji having a whole breakdown mid-fight with Sanji because Sanji refuses to fight her and Yonji doesn't want him to just-- Not fight back? That's no fun! She wants him to get angry at her and do something! But Sanji won't move and only tries to dodge her attacks.
Sanji might still never forgive her for what she did to him, but he could never let a woman suffer in this hell. So... You know. Thoughts about helping Yonji get to Momoiro Island or something so that way she can be herself and free!!

I recently came across your zosan wedding planning/wedding comic again and then all I could think about was who proposes or what Zoro or Sanji's proposal would be like in your mind because I desperately want your thoughts about it. Sorry if you've already spoken about this topic, I just adore the way you portray One Piece characters.
AW thank you very much! That's so sweet of you to say! I certainly love to think about them in their little scenarios HAHA so I'm glad you like reading about it!
To tell the truth I never used to think that ZoSan would ever get married or "need" to get married, and I thought it was a bit OOC of them when I'd read it in other fics etc... until Whole Cake Island, HAHA. Egg on my face. I think the idea of marriage between them was something that genuinely never occured to them, but after Sanji went through that arc - and Zoro felt like he'd nearly lost him - it would force them to actually think about it and realise, hey, shit, yeah, I think if we were married... I would really like that.
I think Sanji would like the old-school romantic symbolism and the public declaration/pride aspect of marriage, plus the security of knowing someone likes you enough they're willing to tie themselves to you legally - while Zoro would appreciate the ritual of marriage; he wouldn't give a shit about the legal aspects of it, but pledging your devotion to one another in front of all the people most important to you? That's kind of his whole thing, lmao... with Luffy and Kuina and even Mihawk, it's obviously very important to him that he makes his intentions known. He's been quite dramatic about it. I think when it came to the actual wedding day, Sanji would be surprised by how seriously Zoro was taking it, and how heartfelt his "vows" were (I think it would end up sounding more like Zoro was preparing for battle than exchanging traditional wedding vows butttt I also think Sanji would swoon over that more).
Of course, to GET to a wedding day still requires one of them to pull the plug and ASK, which is a degree of communication which still eludes them even post-WCI, lmao. I honestly think it would have to go something like... Sanji joking around with Zoro after Wano, saying "Can you imagine us? Married? Lmaooo" and Zoro's just like "? Yeah, easily"
Cue Sanji's mental bluescreen, because, huh? What? Did marimo really just admit that he'd be fine married him? Is that the same thing as wanting to get married? And so he'd prod him about it and Zoro's like... I mean. I kind of thought we already were, to some degree, what with the whole "I came back from hell for you" thing- ("You came back from hell to kill me" "semantics") and Sanji would have to clarify like 10 times if this means Zoro actually plans to marry him and if that means they should and is this is actually happening- and they eventually settle on yes, it's happening, Zoro has just told Sanji he wants to marry him so now Sanji can start planning their wedding if he needs to.
At which point Sanji EXPLODES on him because what kind of proposal is THAT!?!? He deserves to be romanced off his feet with a huge public display of affection and love after all the shit he went through on Whole Cake Island- proposals are supposed to be once-in-a-lifetime events that make you sob and you can tell your grandchildren about them ("we're not having kids")... so Zoro is forced to re-propose to him, probably getting help from each of the Straw Hats in turn about how they think he should do it "properly" (all of which just end up pissing Sanji off, humiliating him, or missing the mark) until they get into a huge argument where Zoro accidentally lays out exactly why he loves Sanji and why he wants to marry him- and that does it. Sanji's a weepy mess and they're ~engaged~
Then the wedding itself is probably equally as disasterous as on Whole Cake because the Straw Hats are involved but this time Sanji is having a blast.
Edit: Alright, fuck it. Here are what the Straw Hats would suggest as their "ideal proposal"
Luffy: He doesn't really get it and thinks Zoro's proposal was already the best way to do it. Keeps badgering Sanji not to be so stingy and just marry Zoro already because he wants cake which pisses Sanji off more. Zoro doghouse count: 1
Usopp: Usopp bursts into tears (he's shipped them for so long) and is almost useless but does eventually pull himself together enough to suggest writing it in the sky. And he has just the invention to do it! This one is actually going pretty smoothly and Usopp is nearly done using his dial-powered drone to spell "will you marry me swirly-brow" over the ocean while Zoro draws Sanji out of the kitchen by the hand when the drone explodes and showers them all in pieces and singes Sanji's hair. "How could you have trusted like that." Zoro doghouse count: 2
Nami: Nami thinks about a man proposing to her and gags but tries to use her imagination and says just throw a bunch of money at it and it should be fine. Lavish him with fine chocolates and champagne and then put the ring in one of the glasses. ("What ring?" "Oh for fuck's sake") Zoro buys expensive champagne & truffles but a cheap ring and it makes the champagne taste like shit and Sanji goes off on him about wasting food. Zoro doghouse count: 3, Zoro debt to Nami: +$5,000
Brook: Brook tells him to simply go traditional, get down on one knee, and speak from the heart, and even offers to accompany Zoro on the deck with a romantic violin. This one is actually working, Zoro's kneeling, everyone's watching and smiling and going "aww", Sanji's swooning, Brook gets into the fucking zone and absolutely shreds it on a violin solo so rambunctious it turns into a Thousand Sunny dance party and both Sanji and Zoro are pissed off at being outshone. Zoro doghouse count: 4, Brook doghouse count: 1
Franky: Franky suggests Zoro takes Sanji to some sort of live show and get on the projector Denden Mushi to hold up a sign asking Sanji to marry him. Zoro takes Sanji to a Groggy Ring game with a sign under his jacket but the camera never actually pans to him and he spends so long trying to get the camera guy's attention that he totally ignores Sanji and they get into a huge blow-out fight (and win the match). Zoro doghouse count: 5, Team Swirly Moss: Undefeated
Chopper: Chopper offers to do it for him with a note. Zoro thinks this is an adorable idea because if Chopper toddled up to HIM like a little ring bearer saying "do you want to marry Sanji? Y/N" his heart would melt so he agrees. Sanji does not agree. Huge fight. "Do it yourself." Zoro doghouse count: 6
Robin: Rose petals. Candles. Wine. Soft music (not by Brook). Aquarium bar. Just the two of them, late at night, with no one else around. Invite him there and simply ask him plainly. Tell him you love him and let the night take its course. This is actually 75% of the way successful before they realise Robin is DEFINITELY watching them from like 50 hana-hana eyes plastered around the aquarium and they BOTH leave in a panic. Zoro doghouse count: Still 6, but with added heebie-jeebies
Jinbe: Zoro, haggard, asks Jinbe how the hell he's supposed to propose to Sanji and Jinbe asks what's stopping Sanji from proposing to him. "Hey, what the fuck? You're right! SHIT COOK-" Huge fight. Zoro doghouse count: 7, Sanji doghouse count: 1
Good thing it works out in the end.

(1.6.2024) Mugiwara space vol. 17 feat. Kazuya Nakai and Kamiya Hiroshi highlights! I don't promise accuracy
Source (give it a listen if you have time! it has teasers to the new opening and ending)
-
Kazuya Nakai - Zoro || Kamiya Hiroshi - Law
Tumblr media
-It's Kamiya's second time in Twitter Space, previously he was with Mayumi Tanaka (Luffy). He says that last time he babbled a lot thanks to Mayumi san's presence, even though he forgot most of it by now (hmm how convenient that you forgot this, kamiya san 🤨)
-Anytime One Piece (the 24/7 YouTube broadcast of the episodes) has 150M views and already in its 4th lap having completed broadcasting all episodes 3 times.
-The entire Space focused on the two voice actors reading out a heap of letters from the animation staffs about the Zoro vs King and Kid-Law vs Big Mom episodes.
-Kamiya jokes about being slightly younger than Nakai and calling him "Nakai-kun" instead of "Nakai san". Funny that Kamiya's career as a voice actor is actually longer than Nakai's.
Tumblr media
-The Zoro vs King finale had 20000 frames in the episode which set a record. The movements were a lot more fluid and film-level. After all, often it's considered overwork if it crosses 5000 frames in a TV episode.
- The animators themselves tried out new things. It seems in one of the shots, Wado ichimonji's direction was reversed from the manga's direction as a realistic correction. Cue jokes about Zoro (and King's) long (long) attack names. Also, anticipation for legendary Mihawk vs Zoro to match the quality.
- Cutting to Kid-Law vs BM, Kamiya commented that it was scary that the fluidity of movements was so good that it made him wonder if that level of effort was necessary at all (he said it's like a Disney movie).
Tumblr media
(in case you didn't know, this scene was indeed animated by an animator who worked in Disney.)
- Kamiya says it was both fortunate and unfortunate that Mami Koyama (Big Mom) wasn't there with them in the booth (she recorded her part separately). Both Kamiya and Nakai agreed that they'd give up immediately if they were to confront against Mami Koyama somehow.
- Kamiya also noted that Big Mom used "ore" to call herself in the final scene ("I am Big Mom") - exerting dominance 💪 her falling scene was intentionally animated beautifully.
- 1066 was animated by people all over the world, so the time adjustments and language barrier was a challenge. Episode director Henry thurlow balanced it well. In his letter, Henry credited the animation director for adjusting a variety of art styles from all participating animators. It was his first time directing a One piece episode, in fact it's the first time a foreigner has directed an anime episode. He thinks the episode was successful.
Tumblr media
- Kamiya was calling Kidd "the extra budget man" for having his complicated-to-animate attacks costing extra budget 💸
-In the final scene vs Misery, Kamiya was asked to ad-lib breathing sound for Law. Kamiya immediately said "sure, got it". Regarding this, Kamiya said he loves doing ad-libs, it adds a little more life to the characters.
Tumblr media
- Finally, announcement for the upcoming Egghead arc debut in anime (Nakai was exhausted of reading letters so Kamiya took over to read director Nagamine's final letter lol)
- The Egghead arc would appear in a new artstyle. Unlike the serious WCI and Wano, there's a more relaxed, "fun adventure" vibe for the future adventure island. And the animators are finally free from the torture of drawing Kaido's scales (and the kimono design patterns) so they're in a relaxed mood having escaped wano 🌞 and entering "the cool future where zoro has long legs and wears dove shoes" 👢✨
Tumblr media
-(letter cont.) "..Also, about a certain change in Law! What will happen to his voice? It's an interesting future!"
Kamiya: Well, I just finished recording that. My voice is still cracking 😎 *nonchalantly continues reading*
Nakai: is it okay to spoil like that??
(fr Kamiya would not share Law's role with ANYONE even if he turns into a woman huh)
And that's it for the highlight!

Idk if you'd be up to it. But for a while, I've been off the Zosan train. They were my favorite. I'd like to get back, but to be honest, whole cake was really the damaging blow. The separation was tough but there was still hope on Zou. So what I'm trying to say is, how do I comprehend whole cake from a shipper side. Just wondering but I guess, at the end, it's mostly a me thing, and maybe I'll get back there. Still enjoy the ship. I wouldn't want to see them without the other, but... (choose to ignore if you want)
Well, shipping goggles secure on my face, here’s how I look at whole cake island/Zoro staying behind
It’s clear on Zou that Zoro is a) worried about Sanji after hearing about what happened and b) angry at Sanji for making them deal with Big Mom right before having to face Kaido
Both emotions come from a place of caring. He cares about Sanji and is worried about his situation, he cares about Sanji so is angry that he left.
As for why Zoro didn’t go to Whole Cake Island despite caring a lot about Sanji, there can be a few reasons for that
1) Zoro takes his role as crew protector seriously. Someone needs to look out for the half of the crew going straight to Wano, and with both Luffy and Sanji on WCI, that someone has to be Zoro. And Zoro knows that if something happened to the others while he was on WCI saving Sanji, Sanji would never forgive him for picking him over them — self sacrificial bastard that he is— so Zoro goes to Wano.
2) Zoro is angry. Sanji ran off to get married to Big Mom’s daughter, so his anger — at both Sanji and the situation — is understandable. The initial plan on WCI is to sneak in, get Sanji, and sneak back out, so Zoro feels his anger would hinder that.
Zoro’s anger here does come from a place of love. He’s angry because he loves Sanji, and Sanji ran off to get married. Zoro needs some space to clear his head, and is taking the time going to Wano to do that.
(Also as far as why Sanji left to get married is concerned, remember that he never planned on getting married. He agreed to go with Bege to protect the rest of the crew, and planned to just tell Judge to fuck off and go home. He only agreed after Judge threatened Zeff and shackled his hands, putting him in a desperate situation that he felt there was no way out of.)
3) Zoro trusts Luffy to bring him home. Zoro feels he doesn’t need to go to WCI because he knows and trusts Sanji will come back. Sanji said in his note that he would come back, and Zoro has no reason to doubt him. He trusts Sanji to do what he has to to deal with his past, and then come back to him. He doesn’t mind being separate from Sanji for a bit, because he knows Sanji will always come back to him
And I think how they act around each other when they finally do reunite in Wano, between easily falling back into their bickering/fighting side by side song and dance while saving Toko, watching each others backs during the King and Queen fight, the Death Pact, says it all. They missed each other during their separation, the trust and love they have for each other is still there, and they’re more than happy to pick up right where they left off.
Also if you’re in the market for Zoro Does Go to WCI fics, I highly recommend To Have and To Hold by Hazel Athena

wano is so wild, because (spoilers for wano if you havent seen it yet)
wano is like the breaking point i think of everybodys tolerance with how much sanjis jokes had been flanderized at that point that the bathing scene is like the most singularly awful thing you could do to sanji fans after whole cake island, which has the strongest writing for him all of post timeskip. wci felt like an acknowledgement of everything wrong with sanji as a character, in general, for the entirety of one piece. and in theory, if oda had gone the route of other characters who similarly have internalized conflict like usopp or robin, then it would've been fixed for the entirety of one piece forever and sanji wouldve tried to adjust. this however didn't happen, for whatever reason.
Toei did the adaptational change of having sanji say "sexual harassment is never allowed" during a scene in the manga that was a pervert joke I think? although i have only read the manga for that bit and haven't seen a side by side comparison. and i think in general that people don't know that that was an adaptational change by toei, because in general toeis adaptational changes (besides the big ones) go pretty unnoticed. and in egghead none of his jokes have been bad to my memory, so uh. maybe toei bribed oda because they had enough or something. go toei!
i think what oda misunderstands post ts is that despite wanting his post timeskip time to be plot focused and not as character focused as before is that when you reduce characters down to jokes whether invalid or valid to the core of their character, it means that the time you do dedicate to that characterization needs to be more efficient and impactful. it wasn't inherently a choice that meant "less characterization = the characterization degrades". which is a commonality in how he treats all of the strawhats post ts, not just sanji.
for example zoro is another character ive seen the complaint of getting flanderized and while i wouldn't use that term for him the way i would for sanji because i do think the serious nature of his characterization post TS is the way he'd react to the given situation I also think that its a choice to make to have him not react any other way to other things. there is a part of his character that is missing, you're right.
but theres also another factor which i think oda doesnt misunderstand but hes kind of trapped himself between a rock and a hard place in regards to and that is so the group dynamic in OP is the most important thing characterization wise and oda has given himself so many characters that the group dynamic has become unmanageable on his own.
like theres fundamentally a reason wci while sporting the best sanji characterization also sported the best nami characterization and arguably the best luffy characterization, and also you get my point. wci was i think odas full on attempt to do what he did pre ts while also remaining in the "more actiony" genre of shonen he's found himself in recently and it's just. wci is a mess. but it does easily have the best characterization for every strawhat in it post ts but it also would've definitely been way stronger if it had every east blue member at least.
but it's also like- ugh. shonen is such a weird genre. i think pre ts was able to straddle the line in regards to one pieces insane relationship to the genre at large but post TS is fairing way less amicably because of the type of shonen it aims to be (fundamentally different than pre TS' shonen) and I don't know entirely why post TS has the issues it does, i enjoy post TS, but i admit that unless something drastically changes in how odas attitude towards characterization goes, post TS will forever be in pre TS' shadow in regards to characterization and also storytelling more broadly. oda continues to be a character focused storyteller, no matter how much he wants that not to be the case. post TS does have better action for the most part the action part of shonen has now blended in completely, but people don't watch one piece for action. i think the reason people like the post TS side characters as much as people do, is that oda allows himself to be fully character focused when dealing with them, despite that being at the sacrifice the mcs characterization.

Hc's of luffys crush being kidnapped during wci Arc and being engaged (by bigmom) to Katakuri??? It's a weird request ik
sorry if it’s short, i hope you’ll still enjoy!
Luffy’s Crush Being Kidnapped by Big Mom and Engaged to Katakuri Headcanons (GN Reader)
Well that wasn’t fair
Not only his friend Sanji was taken away and forced to marry one of Big Mom’s daughters, now they had taken is crush too and they were forced to marry one of her sons?
Luffy was really pissed
He wouldn't let it happen
He will punch his way through Big Mom's army and nothing Nami or Pedro could say would stop him
Not like Luffy ever listened to anyone to begin with
Luffy will fight Katakuri and get his friend- his crush- back
Would probably scream his love for you while fighting Katakuri, because Luffy is that honest and probably wants everyone to know that if they want you then they’ll probably have to fight Luffy first
(You probably melted from his confession, who wouldn’t like to have someone yell their love for you while fighting your enemy to get you back)
Once everyone was saved and they quickly left Whole Cake Island because Big Mom wanted your Captain dead, said Captain gave you a more appropriate love confession and that he swore to protect you so nothing like that could happen again

Ok, serious question for One Piece fans.
Here's the TL;DR:
I'm at Fishman Island in the anime. I know lots of future spoilers for WCI and Wano. I love pre-time skip Sanji and WCI Sanji. I hate Fishman Island Sanji. The question is, as a Sanji fan, how much disappointment should I prepare for in Punk Hazard/Dressrosa/etc until WCI? Is he going to stay this obnoxious until then?
And here's the rather long explanation rant because sometimes you just gotta vent:
I started reading the manga, like, 20 years ago, but I dropped it during the Fishman Island arc. There were many reasons for this (some unrelated to OP entirely), but a big one was Sanji. He had always been my favorite character, and while there had been moments pre-time skip that I didn't love (see: Clear Clear Fruit and it's improper uses), I found he became downright insufferable after it. I don't have to love everything about a character for them to be my favorite, but FI pushed me past my limit.
I have since skimmed through Whole Cake Island and bits of Wano due to seeing spoilers that made me believe that may have changed over time, and I did really like the parts that I read. Well, most of them, anyway (see: invisibility and it's improper uses, Sanji). So between that and hype over the live action version, I went back and started watching the anime for the first time.
I am once again in the early goings of Fishman Island, and I am STRUGGLING. Every time Sanji is on screen my brain is warring between remembering what I like about his character and what I'm seeing play out currently. He used to be overly fond and protective of woman, to the point that his inability to fight them hindered the crew. Now he's an active pervert drooling in the face of every pretty woman who is hindering the crew simply by bleeding to death at the sight of any woman including his own crewmates. Had this happened, like, once, MAYBE twice, ok, it's a dumb gag, but whatever. But it's not a one off gag. It just keeps going, to the point where it doesn't feel like a gag anymore so much as an actual character trait. It's like his flaws (which can make for interesting character drama, like his inability to physically harm Kalifa) are now his core personality, and everything I liked about him isn't even there anymore. Heck, part of his training was to learn to cook foods to help his crew, and he hasn't even cooked anything yet, and he was separated from his crew for two years!
(Ugh, don't mind me, just unearthing feelings buried real deep a decade ago. ANYWAY)
I know he gets better. He'll never feel quite like his pre-time skip (especially pre-Thriller Bark) self again, but I know that WCI adds in some really interesting layers to his character, and while Wano still has his perviness turned up a bit higher than I'd prefer, there's real depth to his character to keep him from sinking back into the one note gag that is Fishman Island. He will get growth. He will go back to being an enjoyable and rounded character one day.
I just really need to know exactly how long I have to wait for that to happen.
Sanji is (obviously) not the only thing I like about One Piece. I like nearly all of the Straw Hats, I've gotten attached to more than a few side characters over time, and the fact that it's so long and hasn't (to my knowledge) felt like a mad scramble of retcons is highly impressive.
But here on good old tumblr, I expect people to understand about the blorbos. They're different. They're special. And feeling like I wish one of them would finally succumb to death by nosebleed is, to put it mildly, not ideal.
And thus the question at hand. Because if I have to put up with this Sanji all the way until WCI, I might just scream. But at least if I have the warning ahead of time, I'll know to expect it rather than fruitlessly hoping he gets better before then.
Just give it to me straight, doc. How bad is it?
(The one thing I know of him between now and WCI is that his mind/soul/?? gets stuck in Nami's body - not sure for how long or what all he... does... in there, though. So please spoil that for me. I do not want that kind of surprise.)

i keep thinking about law believing sanji was dead not once but twice. like this guy lost his family then cora-san then spent years thinking his little brother first drowned and then later was killed while they were on the same island. like he must be paranoid over sanjis safety (meanwhile sanjis like *offended* "you thought id die so easily?")
Oh gods yes, he is already paranoid as hell and then WCI happens? The Death Pact™️? Listen Sanji isn't making a good case for himself about not dying, okay. Law is perfectly reasonable calling the Sunny every other day to make sure that little fucker is alive. Especially if Bepo is also waiting to talk to Sanji and Shachi and Penguin are taking notes about recipes to make sure Law eats.
Like also at some point Law probably has an injured as fuck Sanji laying with his head in Law's lap and Law is going through it in head. He's carding his hands through his baby brother's hair and thinking of Lami and how fragile life is because they know better than anyone.
Sanji might be trying to prove him wrong, especially with his haki, sky walking, fire legs but Law is always going to be protective. Sanji is strong, no doubt about he's a third of the monster trio but Sanji doesn't have a fruit, he's no king of hell. Sanji is terribly, terribly human unlike his siblings and father. And Law can't help but see Rosinante in the smaller too. So caring and compassionate. And Law reminds Sanji of his mother when he's soft and caring, when he shows it. Sanji is going to get stronger, he serves under a god. He'll show Law he can keep up with them and stay safe, mostly, while doing it.
