Yknow they were so iconic for the klance one sided rivalry dynamic in the pilot like yes you can add depth and angst and insecurity about Lance being moved up from cargo just bc Keith left but objectively Lance being so fixated on this rivalry and Keith being like “who?” Is hilarious to me

Sunset scene could be the same (maybe a tad bit more complimentary) but after Lance goes to GET THE GIRL, It shows Keith staring at the sunset with this bittersweet expression on his face????
In the end, Keith is happy for Lance but it still doesn’t erase the fact that he’s had a long-running MEGA BOY CRUSH on him. DreamWorks makes it so emotional that critics PRAISE the show!!!
But V:LD is a kids show after all, and it’s about giant space robots, so romance would not be the main target. One-Sided love is more complex, BUT STILL. JUST…SUBTLY

Cookie Run, Queerbait, and why the concept does not apply to SeaMoon... 2!!!
//This is a repost of an older post, as something else came up that I wanted to add to this analysis. If you don't want to reread the entire thing, feel free to skip to the section headed with 'Queerbait: Lost in Translation'.//
There are a lot of issues with the way Devsis, the developers behind Cookie Run, handle diversity in their games. Most notably, it falls into the common trap many, MANY gacha games do in that it partakes in a lot of orientalist tropes. But one debate I’ve seen that I just cannot get behind, as a lesbian, is the idea that they have queerbaited-- most namely, with SeaMoon.
Below the cut, I will explain why: what queerbait is and what it looks like, queerbaiting vs coding, and why comparing WlW tropes from other countries to queerbaiting is unfair (and also maybe don’t apply a Japanese literary concept to a Korean game, more on that later). All in a bid to show why it is not only wrong to compare SeaMoon to queerbaiting, it is harmful.
SeaMoon, for those unfamiliar, is the name popularly given to the ship between Sea Fairy Cookie and Moonlight Cookie in Cookie Run. Aside from the ocean and the moon being a common motif for romance in fiction already, the game had hinted at their romance in a lot of in-game and side material. Most namely, Sea Fairy’s line about Moonlight’s heart ‘being the warmest’ and the “I want you Everyday” music video with their moment together + the lines that went along with that moment...

The point is, most WlW in this fandom caught onto the romantic ramifications of the ship long before Moonlight was expanded on in Kingdom and the recent updates all but confirmed their mutual affection towards one another. The two of them even got matching costumes and a bond story that was as close to romance as Cookie Run would do (as it is ultimately not a romance centered franchise).
With who they are established...
Queerbait: What is it?
Queerbaiting most popularly is understood as a marketing gimmick where creators and multimedia companies suggest queerness to draw in LGBT people and allies, only for the rug to be pulled out from underneath fans. Though it has other meanings, especially in other cultures as I'll explain more below. Whether this is utilizing the ‘bury your gays’ trope, the rep being constrained to insignificant side characters/moments, or just not existing at all.
The two most popular examples of queerbaiting would be recent Disney movies and Voltron. Though special shoutout to Harry Potter, as if we didn’t have enough reasons to hate the book series and JKR. As the stuff with Dumbledore was an obvious retcon to go ‘look how progressive I am!!!’.
Voltron’s last season had two key things regarding queerbait: the Klance drama (the ship between Keith and Lance) and Shiro’s bait and switch with his partner.
To the show’s credit, Shiro was actually gay. Even revealed to have had a partner he was engaged to. However, this rug was pulled out from underneath fans when they actively killed said partner. He was given another partner in the epilogue, but the fact he was revealed to be gay only for his partner to be killed off (coupled with the next thing) upset many queer fans.
Klance is a lot more insidious. In the run up to the final season, Netflix and the crew actively promoted the show using Klance and its popular support. Despite the fact they knew the relationship was never intended to be canon. This is one of the most explicit examples of queerbaiting out there, and is foundational to understanding the specificity and insidiousness of the marketing ploy.
For Disney, I would like to focus on the Star Wars sequels and Beauty and the Beast (2017). The last movie of the sequel trilogy had the creators talking about how there would be queer rep... leading many queer fans to believe they were talking about Finn and Poe for obvious reasons, something the creators never corrected/confirmed. Only for the rep to merely be two background characters in one scene.
As for Beauty and the Beast, Le Fou was celebrated as Disney’s first openly gay character, leading folks to believe they’d explore him having feelings for the titular bad guy. But that was never really explored in any meaningful way, and the rep we got of him was a ‘blink and you’ll miss it’ moment between him and an unnamed character. Arguably he could fall more into coding, but the fact Disney actively marketed him for his gayness is where it bleeds into queerbaiting.
In general, queerbaiting is a more modern problem, as companies feel they can say the word gay now. But are still wishy-washy on actual depictions of queerness. So we get them celebrating their inclusion, even if it’s ultimately little to nothing.
Queerbaiting vs Queer Coding
This is when an important distinction needs to be made: what is queerbaiting and what is queer coding. Queer coding is when media uses subtext, but never explicitly says, a character is gay. A good way to understand this is to compare 90′s disney movies to modern ones.
As discussed above, modern Disney will often go on about having queerness in their movies only for it to be minimal at best if not existent. 90′s Disney meanwhile never marketed their movies as having LGBT elements, but many fans could see the way in which queerness came through from characters like Ursula (literally modeled off a drag queen), Scar, and Hades. 
Queer coding can be seen as a product of the Hays Code era-- where positive depictions of ‘perverse sexuality’ (including homosexuality) was not allowed in film, relegating a lot of queerness to the roles of villains (hence the association Disney villains have with it). That, or queer creators had to find ways of coding their heroes in ways that went under the nose of cishet audiences.
Queer coding exists in a net-neutral space. As queer coding, while in many ways is outdated in a world where media can show explicit LGBT rep, was integral to the ways in which queer creators told their stories for years. And actively influences the way many queer creators continue to tell their story (for better and for worse). It can also perpetrate stereotypes against queer people, as we saw with the Disney villains, however.
Still, this is different than the relatively modern concept of queerbaiting as that is largely a negative phenomenon. Queer coding was a tool used and is still used by actual LGBT people, while queerbaiting is more often than not the work of cishet folks or corporations wanting to make a quick buck.
Queerbait: Lost in Translation
Another element of queerbait I did not previously address is how its more commonly understood in the context of cultures' media (such as in Eastern countries like Korea and Japan). As the financial reasoning behind the idea isn't as front and center (for a myriad of complicated reasons regarding how explicit queer rep can be from country to country). Though this definition of queerbait can also apply to US and English based media.
To some, queerbait also applies to coded LGBT relationships that are primarily centered on or meant to appeal to straight audiences (WlW rep meant for the male gaze, MlM rep meant for girls).
In other words, fetishized LGBT coding.
I would personally argue (as a queer non binary lesbian) that this meaning is less insidious than the money making logic behind modern queer baiting that happens in the US mainly, but its for an important reason...
A lot of this queerbait relies on elements of coding still. While the way many Western viewers see queerbait in American media relies on using explicit queerness as a marketing ploy. To compare, let's look at idol/sports anime and the previously mentioned Disney movies.
The idea that idol/sports anime is queerbait is... contentious. And one I'm not entirely sure I even agree on. But it is undeniable that some of its more WlW centric scenes appeal to the male audiences that view these shows or games. Still, nothing is ever made explicit. It utilizes elements of queer coding originating from the yuri/gl genre that was built up by queer people themselves.
To some, this may be more insulting. For me personally though coding has always been a net neutral, and this form of coding is just more on the negative end for me. Still, there is something there for queer people to take away.
Meanwhile, the way in which disney queerbaits its audience is by saying their character is LGBT then... doing nothing with it. Not even elements of coding. Just-- 'yep there's a gay character in our movie come watch it'!!! Its a lot more soulless compared to the previous one, and therefore to me is more insulting.
Why SeaMoon falls more into Coding
With the two elements defined, let’s explain why SeaMoon falls more into the realm of coding rather than baiting.
First off, the way the devs write romance is consistent with how they wrote SeaMoon. Most of the ways in which things were left vague before Kingdom could be explained in the devs unfortunate habit of not elaborating on things they really should elaborate on. On top of romance in general being coded rather than explicit in the franchise.
As an example, lets discuss the two closest things to M/F romance we have in the franchise-- PureLily (Pure Vanilla and White Lily) and MintCocoa (Mint Choco and Cocoa). 
PureLily became more explicit in the same update as SeaMoon (with Pure Vanilla wondering aloud if he still loves her), but in general the way their relationship was shown before the Crunchy Dreams event was largely through subtext (how the two spoke of one another, PV’s garden, etc) and outside material (the love quiz).
This also applies to MintCocoa. During the days of OB, the game itself did not elaborate much on either of the two’s characters (just as they didn’t with Moonlight). With most of their romantic subtext (like SeaMoon) being in outside videos, media, and merch. Kingdom in general seems more willing to elaborate on romance, as we saw in the story that came with Cocoa’s release.
And secondly, the devs never really threw SeaMoon around as a way of saying ‘look how progressive we are’ or to appeal specifically to LGBT fans. Anytime SeaMoon was included in media, it was often alongside other coded relationships such as MintCocoa or things like RaspRose (Raspberry Mousse x Rose). And even the times they did do things like promote themselves during pride month, they never used SeaMoon. Instead they used the Hollyberry kingdom (due to its bg having same-gender couples dancing and having drinks together). 
The way SeaMoon was treated up until the recent Kingdom update was more in line with queer coding rather than queer baiting. Which is NOT perfect, as media should go beyond coding in the modern age. But it is not as bad or as insidious as queerbaiting implies.
Not as insidious as either definition of queerbait; as nothing about the relationship between them is really centered on being for the male or fetishized gaze either. They're Cookies... in a series where romance is not a focus. While one could argue their romance is stuck more into the background compared to say MintCocoa and PureLily, it still isn't designed to be fetishized (in canon, what fandoms do with SeaMoon and other LGBT ships is its own matter).
Extra Note on S Class Comparisons
S Class is a trope in Japanese media where two girls will often have a very close bond, akin to romance. However, it is ultimately still platonic and disappears upon either graduation from school or marriage. It is over 100 years old, with some of the first pieces of the genre being in the early 1900′s. And was a major influence on the yuri, more commonly called GL now, genre.
Before anything else, I want to offer a brief aside that maybe we should be careful when comparing a Japanese literary trope to a Korean game. Comparing the two countries can be a very... very touchy subject matter. Especially in the context of this being a genre that rose in popularity during the colonization of Korea by Japan.
I do NOT think you can compare SeaMoon or anything in CR to S Class tropes. But I will discuss it just to clear things up, as I find comparing the trope to queerbaiting problematic.
It is more akin to queer coding rather than queer baiting. Why? Many of the authors who utilized the trope were queer themselves. In fact, “Obuko Yoshiya, a lesbian Japanese novelist active in the Bluestocking feminist movement, is regarded as a pioneer of Class S literature”. Again, a key factor that separates coding and baiting (being that queer creators will often code but won’t bait). 
The genre is at its worst stifling and harmful to the modern day GL genre in Japanese literature, and extremely heteronormative. But to compare it to things like queerbaiting or to entirely dismiss it as a form of WlW rep in the context of how it was used by actual queer people in Japan is entirely unfair to the genre; queer rep does not look the same in every country.
S Class also evades the way in which queerbait can mean being meant for the male gaze, as it is a trope whose origins lie earnestly in media meant for girls. That does not mean it can't be used to appeal to the male gaze, but it is not where it started.
Ending Notes
Are the devs perfect in their representation of SeaMoon and WlW? Of course not, there is a valid conversation to be had on how queer relationships constantly being merely coded rather than explicit is annoying and hurtful. And more and more queer people have this critique of the concept of queer coding. On a personal level, I can forgive it in this specific case cause its in line with how the devs do romance in general. But if it bothers you that it was merely coded for the longest time rather than explicit, that’s entirely valid.
But the idea the devs ever queerbaited audiences is unfair and actively makes many WlW feel invalidated in how they easily saw the coding present in the two’s relationship. Again, queer coding is a net neutral phenomenon while queerbaiting is mostly negative. To subscribe such a notion to what is important rep to so many WlW is hurtful.

Lance is 21, Keith 23, Shiro and Adam 29, and Krolia ans Texas are young at heart
Lance picked up Kosmo when he was a puppy while he was still traveling by car in the beginning of the zombie apocalypse
The zombie apocalypse started when a asteroid crashed into earth, containing frozen alien bacteria inside of it. Humans obviously snooped, samples collected and vials broke, and some poor bloke ended up eating a shitty lab served hamburger with a side of zombie virus!
Zombie apocalypse started in Cuba for the sole reason of angst 🤗
Lance was a med student in NYC before the zombie outbreak, and spent the first two months (its a miracle America didn't go to shit before that) helping in hospitals. Things got so dire it didn't even matter how long yoi were in med school for, hospitals were actively begging for help.
Hunk was in Hawaii at the time of the outbreak, which was a rare part of the world largely left unaffected. In the sense there were no zombies.
Shiro hasn't lost his arm (yet) but he served in the military, same with Adam.
Krolia was special forces in the military. She's like a modern day ninja.
Texas was a police man then fireman, but was largely a stay at home dad once Keith was born.
Shiro is the son of a friend Texas adopted after they died, and technically knew Texas before he even met Krolia.
Adam is from Spain and moved to America after his parents cut him off/disowned him for being gay.
Lance is the oldest sibling! He has (had) 6 younger sisters
The Koganes don't know nearly as much as Lance about zombies bc they managed to fortify their farm and live there for the first 5 months of the zombie apocalypse. They start moving toward DC after receiving a transmission from Matt to head there.
Lance was able to keep in regular contact with Pidge and Hunk before the internet finally went down 3 months into the apocalypse. Pidge tells him to head to DC.
Lance ends up from NYC to Alabama after the internet went down bc he can't read a physical map and Google maps stopped working.
Lance managed to travel by car for 4 months before he realized it was way too loud and had to ditch it.
Krolia advocates so strongly for Lance to stay with them bc she is literally like "omg a baby!"
Texas is willing to go along with anything his beautiful wife's says
Texas killed his first zombie simply bc Krolia told him to, no questions asked. He didn't even know it was a zombie. Krolia was like "kill that bastard!" And Texas was deadass like "yes my queen"
Lance didn't really have to teach Kosmo anything, he kind of just picked things up and did them.
Kosmo is the main reason Lance is alive. Kosmo listens and smells the zombies and alerts Lance.
While mindless, the zombies still have the instincts to avoid the sun as it speeds up the decaying process, thus leading to zombies being more active at night.
Zombies cannot see, they lose this as soon as they turn, but newly turned zombies can hear for the first few months before they decay too badly. At around the 6-7 month mark is when smelling is their only sense left. Despite being dead, they're very strong. They lack the coordination to run fast, but retain the instincts required to hunt.
Anyone is free to add on btw!!! I love love love zombies and theories and ideas I could go on forever about them!!!!

Cold
Alright, I just have to force my brain to function long enough to write this, and then I can crash. I'm sorry if I ramble a lot throughout this, I feel like mush.
Klance is together in this.

The planet Chidruiq is known for its year-round cold weather. It's not a pleasant place to visit, but the inhabitants are very adaptable, and would be valuable members of the Voltron Coalition.
While the other paladins seem to be fine after piling on a couple jackets over their armor, Keith can feel the cold creeping deep into his bones.
He hasn't felt like this ever, maybe because he's used to living out in the desert with nothing but warmth surrounding him.
He zones out quickly, unable to focus on his surroundings.
Lance notices Keith running his hands up and down his arms for warmth and is immediately worried. Keith is never this obvious about discomfort.
He remembers when they first met, when Keith would refuse to open up to anyone but Shiro. They've come a long way since then, but Keith still prefers to handle things himself. Right now, it's obvious to anyone looking that Keith is not doing well.
Inching closer to his boyfriend, Lance whispers, "Hey. Keith, hon. You're shivering." He wraps an arm gently around Keith's waist after the red paladin fails to respond.
When Keith turns to face Lance, he realizes that Keith's nose is a bright red. That would be cute in another situation, but Keith looks miserable. (Though Lance may have to add 'Rudolph to his collection of cheesy nicknames for him.)
"I n-noticed," Keith stutters back through chattering teeth. "I th-think this is a G-galra thing, I r-read something ab-bout it in the castle's library."
"Are you gonna turn all purple and furry on me? I think you'd look cute with Galra ears."
Lance had just been teasing, but his eyes widen when Keith holds up his hand. It's slightly purple tinted, and at a closer glance, Lance can see that there's a fine layer of fur forming over Keith's previously pale skin.
Keith ducks his head in shame. "This has never happened before. But I've never been somewhere super cold like this. Can you make sure the aliens don't see? I don't want them going all ballistic. They're kinda buff."
Lance snickers at that, but then shifts so that Keith's body is shielded by his. He then grabs Keith's surprisingly small in his own large one.
"Don't worry, I've got you. Anyway, we can totally take these guys. Now, as much as I'd like to see Galra you, lets get you back home."
Lance catches himself off guard with his words. He doesn't know when the castle became home to him.
But anywhere is home with this second family.
Especially with Keith by his side.

I've started expanding on this thread on the accursèd bird app. It will update...*gestures vaguely* I'm super behind on literally all of my wips, and this one has decided to add itself to the pile. I'm hiding this here bc I'm not even done with the thread yet. fml
Concept: Keith as an identical triplet, following canon with a few new steps, and, of course, a side of klance

Three small boys squished themselves into the farthest corner of the same bed, clinging to each other, their stuffed hippos, each with an initial stitched onto the bottom of a front paw, crushed between their tiny bodies. They had been pulled out of school in the middle of the day by people they didn’t know, scared and confused, the adults around them saying things like “caught in a house fire”, “didn’t make it out”, “we don’t have any other family listed, not even their mother”.
When they asked where their dad was and that they wanted to go home, one of the adults looked at them sadly and said that they could go home for a little while, but that their dad wasn’t coming back, and they would have to go with the adults after they’d packed some things. The boys burst into tears, one out of fear of something they didn’t understand, one looking more furious than a six year old should, and the other shut down, going silent and refusing to look at anyone.
The adults had managed to find a place for them for the night, a temporary solution until a group home could be found.  This one was in a residential area just off a main road in town, far too noisy for three little boys used to the silence of the desert.
By bed time their tears had dried, but they were still afraid of what was to come, and listened in the dark of their room to the muffled voices on the other side of the closed door.
“They’re refusing to be separated.”
“At least two of them have bitten staff when they try.”
“I mean, I understand why they’re aggressive.”
“Oh, I know.  Losing a parent is always hard, especially that young.”
“They’re only six…”
“I’m going to put in a recommendation they stay together.”
“It’ll be harder to place them.”
“I know, but I think this is the best thing for them.”
“They’re going to have a hard life no matter what we do.”
“At least this way they’ll still have each other.”
The voices moved away from the door, fading away down the hall, and the three boys eventually drifted off, still holding each other close.
The next morning, their social worker found them in the exact same place in the bed farthest from the door, the other two beds untouched.  She woke them gently, ready for one of the parts of her job she liked least, welcoming Aidan, Keith, and Finn, identical triplets, to their new life in the Texas foster care system as orphaned wards of the state.

This is no way meant to be a hate ask and look i want to like the idea of canon klance and i want to like canon Keith but lbr if the writers had made klance or any keith ship canon they would have done it in worst way possible with the ship being only meant to benefit Keith while simultaneously being detrimental to the love interest. Cause fact is that Keith was writers pet, the top priority, the self insert, they destroyed all the characterization and agency and roles of other characters for the plot and story and then destroyed said plot and story to make Keith super cool hero character.
I keep seeing posts like how canon wouldnt suck if (insert Keith ship) had been canon and i am like, canon sucked because they priortized a lbr white coded able bodied character over canonical characters of colour who were reduced to torture porn, hate sinks, and comic relief. Canon sucked because the characters who were established as important parts of the story were reduced to side characters and plot devices so that Keith could shine brighter. And a canon Keith ship would not have helped any character other than Keith, and if anything would have reduced the other character as an eye candy comforter.
Again this is not meant to be a hate ask. It is just been frustrating to be in this fandom especially as a darker skinned woc to watch this show and fandom still treat characters of colour as woke points while using them to prop up Keith
I have debated over responding to this message, mainly because there are some things in here that could potentially cause drama on my page if I even respond to them in any way.
However, there are some points in here worth addressing, so...
First and foremost, I am going to say that I can see your intention is not to make this a hate ask. However, it does come across that way to some degree. The main reason being that you are making valid points about the other characters, but you are doing it by pushing Keith's character down - and that is the stuff I don't really like to see, here.
I'm not trying to invalidate your view on things, because I realize your point was literally this, just the other way around. I'm just saying for the sake of my own page, I've had a lot of asks in a similar vein and it's not really something I'm interested in discussing in asks.
Of course everyone can like and dislike whichever characters they choose, but I do like to keep things as fair and equal as possible across the board. So, I am always open to discussions and opinions on why a character or another deserved more and better, but only if they do not come at the expense of another character.
And with this, specifically - I just don't see this version of Keith you are referring to, so there's not even much I can add to that part of your ask.
To the other parts, however, this very much illustrates the need to having diversity in the creation process of shows and movies.
Unfortunately, a lot of studios and execs and whoever greenlights these things still rely on the "token" aspect when it comes to diversity.
As your ask proves, it doesn't do any good just to simply have characters of color, for example, if they are reduced to stereotypes or insignificant parts.
This is where the actual diversity should come in - because it needs to happen behind the scenes for there to be a change that will actually mean something.
In my opinion, experience is so much more important than any title or rank or connection. It is important to actually include and receive input from creators who understand a situation on its basest level.
I consider myself to be a very empathetic person who tries my best to understand human nature and emotions. But I, as a white person, will never have the same experience as you, a person of color. It's literally and physically impossible.
But that's the whole point.
Because if a book were to be written about the actual experiences of growing up as a poc, there are insights and stories you, anon, could offer than I could only take a wild guess at. And vice versa.
I'm not saying that creators should only create based on their own personal life and experiences. But it is important for larger projects such as shows that want to include a diverse cast to actually employ people who understand what it is like.
Because it's not enough to just throw a darker skinned character in a show and say "Hey look at us we did it. Diversity! Woohoo!"
And it is just bad storytelling all around if any character in any given situation is only there for the purpose of the "main character" (or any other character).
Because what really makes a story interesting is the diversity that can come from the different experiences and opinions of the various characters - how they can clash and converge and change and grow.
The final thing I will add is that in my mind, Keith is Asian and Galran, so...mixed. I understand a lot of trouble could have been avoided if the showrunners had just confirmed this was the case while the show was airing, but, well...we can't change the past.
It was, in the most technical sense, confirmed here, but I do understand that most people will view that as too little too late, and that's understandable.

ok, i just need to put out there that this is the first time i've ever written something relatively close to fanfiction, so it's shitty and a little ooc for some of the characters (especially keith ngl). anyways here a small klance oneshot but it's dialogue only!! btw no tw that ik of, but lmk if there's something i should add a tw for! it was written as a school project, so there shouldn't be anything!! enjoy my shit writing, everyone :)
L: “How- how did you find me?”
K: “You’ve got to be kidding me. You’re joking, right?”
L: “Uhhhhh….. yes?”
K: “Oh my God you’re being serious, haha! Wow, I did not take you as the dense type.”
L: “Hey! For your information I am very perceptive when I need to be!”
K: “Yeah our lives are kind of in danger right now? I’d take that as a time where perceptiveness is needed! And you obviously didn’t take that perceptiveness into consideration when you practically announced to the world where you were going due to how loud you ran.”
L: “..Touche.”
K: “Anyways, do you have any information on our enemy?”
L: “All I know is that we’re outnumbered. By, like, a lot. We’re the only ones left.”
K: “...Oh.”
L: “Yeah, how’s that for perceptiveness!?”
K: “Point taken, but this isn’t the time to argue! The enemy could be close and be ready to snipe us, and we can’t afford to lose this war.”
L: “Alright. Do you have a plan?”
K: “Well, you know how I said they could be ready to snipe us at any moment?”
L: “I think I see where you’re going with this, K.”
K: “Thankfully, we have a sharpshooter of our own. The only way we can win at this point is to ambush them. They’ve got 5 people, right? I think I’ll be able to pull off leading them together with some distractions, and once they’re all together, you can pick them off from above.”
L: “This is going to be so fun!”
K: “Remember to stay serious, L… But let’s destroy them.”
H: “Dude, we’ve been walking around for forever and there’s still no sign of anyone. Did we take them all out? I feel like we would have known if we took them all out.”
P: “Yeah, we would have. They’re either really good at this or have no clue what to do, and I’m going with the latter.”
*TING, TING, CLATTER*
H: “What was that? P please, what was that?!”
P: “Calm down!! Finding out where they are is literally our job, H. It sounded like it came from roughly 10 o'clock, but from above due to how long it took to hit the ground. Let’s go back east and tell the others”
A: “H, P! Why are you two over here? I thought your orders from S were to stay separate from the group.”
H: “Yeah, well we know where the enemy is and it's literally on the complete other side, soooooo yeah.”
P: “One of them dropped something, and I thought I heard someone quietly curse under their breath, so they’re def disorganized. ”
C: “Awesome, S isn’t terribly far away so we should regroup and come up with a game plan.”
A: “Let’s go then! We must win!”
K: “Beep. They’re heading over to their leader now, L. You in position? Beep.”
L: “Beep. Never been more ready, K. Beep.”
K: “Beep. Alright then, good luck. I’m counting on you. Beep.”
S: “C just filled me in, great job on finding their location H and P.”
A: “P said that what they dropped sounded like it came from above, so we should ambush from behind and on the same level, instead of from underneath.”
C: “Sounds reasonable enough to me, does anyone have anything else to add?”
H: “Nope!”
P: “Nothing here, let go get th-”
*PEW PEW PEW*
S: “What?! They’re behind us? Everyone, ready you-”

Ashka’s Basic Tagging Guide for ao3
Tagging is annoying. I personally hate it. But for anyone struggling to tag their fics, this is a helpful little guide I’ve made for basic tagging. Please note, this is just a guide, not a rulebook! This is generally how I’ll tag all of my fics before adding some fandom-specific stuff. 
Without further ado, here’s the guide:
Character Tags
First, let’s start with the character tags. In general, it’s best to tag characters in level of importance, and only tag characters that play a major role. Since ao3 now has a tagging limit, for fics featuring a massive cast tagging only the most important characters is best. 
If you want to convey that everyone is in the fic, I suggest tagging the main characters, and then using ensemble tags to reduce overtagging (i.e. Voltron: Legendary Defender Team; Attack on Titan Ensemble; Class 1A; and other fandom-specific large cast tags).  
Also, if your fic features a self insert or original characters, tag it. If it features y/n formats, tag it. Can be done as such:

NOTE: y/n can also be placed in the characters section.
Relationship tags:
I cannot stress this enough. Please only tag the major relationships in the fic. If there are side relationships, use the tag Minor/background relationships, and use the Background/Minor [SHIP] in the general tags section. 
For example, if I’m writing a Klance fanfiction but there are mentions of Romellura and Hunay, here’s how I would tag it:

Tagging ships that are in the background or that are only mentioned sparingly in the Relationships section is incredibly frustrating for readers looking for specific ship content. 
Furthermore, for poly relationships, it’s best to tag [CHARACTER]/[CHARACTER]/[CHARACTER] rather than three sets of [CHARACTER]/[CHARACTER], unless there is an established relationship prior to the poly.
Moreover, if there is multiple ships for the same person with only one ending up as endgame, in the Additional Tags section, it’s polite to add Endgame [SHIP] tag so that people are aware what they are reading. 
As example, for a fic that starts with Izuku/Uraraka, and ends up being poly Iida/Izuku/Uraraka, this is how I’d tag it:

And remember: [CHARACTER]/[CHARACTER] is for ships. [CHARACTER]&[CHARACTER] is for friendships. 
General Tags
These tags should be about how the story is written, and are incredibly helpful for readers looking for specific things.
- POV First/Second/Third While ao3 is disproportionately 3rd POV, tagging POV may appeal to certain readers and is a good courtesy, especially for 1st/2nd POV fics. 
- Happy/Ambiguous/Open/Sad ending A good tag to let the readers know what they’re getting into. Can be combined with other tags (i.e. Angst with a Happy Ending).
- Podfic For all podfics. 
- Chatfic/Chatlogs For all fics that employ texting as a means of storytelling
- Mixed media This tag is great for fics that incorporate various forms for storytelling, such as texting, images, newspaper articles, interview transcripts, art, comics, etc. 
Mood Tags
In general, mood tags should be used for the main themes/moods of the fic. 
- Angst If characters goes through a bad times and there’s angst as a main theme, tag it. 
- Hurt/comfort If your fic has hurt/comfort, use this. An alternative is hurt/no comfort. 
- Whump According to urban dictionary, whump is: Taking a character and putting them through physical and/or mental torment and is typically followed by the same character being treated for their traumas. If this applies, tag it.
- Fluff For fics that are sweet, light and ‘fluffy.’ 
Setting Tags
Tags used for the setting of your fic. 
- Canon compliant Use this tag for all fics that are compliant with the media canon, such as missing scene fics, or a post-story fic.
- Canon divergent This tag is for all fics that diverge from the canon storyline, where alternate events from canon have taken place.
- Alternate universe - modern setting  Have a coffee shop fic? Have something set in modern times? Use this. You may also do another tag for more specific settings (i.e. Alternate universe - Coffee Shop), however this tag should be used for all modern setting fics. 
- Alternate universe - [MEDIA] fusion Used for fics that have the characters of one media, but use settings, characters, plots, etc. from another.
- Inspired by [MEDIA] explanatory. 
- [MEDIA] Spoilers For fics containing spoilers, usually of the ending of a show, a latest episode/season/chapter, etc. This is a very important tag.
Character Specific Tags
Sometimes it’s best to put character specific tags if your fic focusses on a character! This list is just a basic one, but really helps people find specific niches in fics. - [CHARACTER]-centric If your fic focusses mainly on one character, then this tag is crucial.  - [CHARACTER] angst/whump If your fic focusses on one character’s angst and/or whump, use this tag. - [CHARACTER] bashing I cannot stress this enough, but if your fic bashes a character, then tag it. Untagged character bashing is painful, and not a good experience for readers. 
Summary
Using all of this info, I’ve created a random tag list for a random fic here:

You can see that I’ve tagged crucial things: what the fic is, who’s the important characters, the contents, setting, etc. However, once you’ve done the base things, feel free to add fandom-specific tags or other miscellaneous things that may be important. Hell, add a joke tag or two, if you want. Tags like No Beta We Die Like [CHARACTER]; [CHARACTER]’s A+ Parenting, etc. are such tags.

There are so many other tags you can use, and this is really just the basics. Every fandom has their own flair to tags which can’t be covered on a simply tumblr post, so do your research, and most importantly, have fun fic writing!
In general, i’d avoid overtagging, however if you believe something is necessary to a fic, tag it. Other than that, go wild.

I got the low key basics down there, and the Primary Color Trio definitely keep their normal personalities.
So Katie decides to go to war in place of her father, and also find her brother, Matt, who was already fighting and disappeared. She gets to war, and has the alias Pidge.
The Primary Colors discover her secret pretty early on, and decide to help Pidge (and, Pidge thinks, the name is starting to grow on her)
Also, all the romantic moments in the movie belong to Klance in this okay? Okay, they are a while subplot and this is Pidge-centric (what is it with me making Pidge-centric ideas with a Klance side?) It also has some Adashi, but I’m gonna break your heart in a second.
So the gang does all their training, which is intense, but Hunk decides to be a sweetheart and help Pidge, which means Lance and Keith follow. They train together as much as possible, and eventually impress Shiro a bunch.
As they are marching to the grounds of the first battle, and they talk about their types (see: the song that’s sung there.) Hunk says he has someone waiting for him at home, Shay. Lance says something along the lines of Keith, and Keith describes Lance (they don’t notice though). Then they get to the site, and all they see is wreckage. The Primary Colors know Pidge’s identity (they found out during all the training because the training is included and not glossed over in a song, it is also when Klance mutual pining happens), and everyone is horrified at the scene. That’s when a random soldier tells Shiro to come over, and lo and behold, Adam’s captain helmet is in the middle of the wreckage.
Now let’s go to when everyone finds out Pidge is a girl. They don’t kill her, duh, but she tells the Primary Trio to go on without her. They do so reluctantly, and now Pidge is stranded.
Not to worry though, she finds a cave that is filled with supplies. She rests there, too tired to think about anything else. When she wakes up, someone is tending a fire in the cave. She screams, and the voice says “woah, lady, calm down,” and Pidge gapes. Then his eyes widen in recognition, and Pidge whispers “Matt?”
So they travel together and get to the main place, and the normal battle happens ya know yeee, Pidge is SO BADASS, and by the end, Shiro is like another big brother figure.
Pidge watches as Lance and Keith lean against each other at the end of the battle, and she knows something happened during battle okay.
They all have a happy ending, and I didn’t go into depth on the brother-sister relationship Shiro and Pidge will have but it’s THERE

I know that the end credits wedding scene of Shiro and Curtis is supposed to be the LGBT rep that the VLD team could offer but it was just... slapped on like a last minute sticker. I wanted to be happy but it wasn’t very fulfilling. Why is that? If they could DO that for a MAIN character—a very popular one, mind you—at the very end, why not use a well-developed mlm relationship like Keith and Lance? Wasn’t it a natural progression? Didn’t they show the most development in dynamic between two characters? This is why we can’t help but think there was some spite in not doing that exact thing.
