What to Expect Coming Up
I am still sick, but thought it’d be fun to mention all the projects I have going on and my sort of process.
I’ve gotten into the flow of 3 art -> animate an hour -> 3 art -> reference sheet; and repeat! Now the “3 art” doesn’t include warm-ups, which I’ll discuss in a moment. This usually varies but does have a pattern of priority to it.
Commissions (none atm, but one has discussed interest) -> Deadline art (contest entries, featured character, birthday gifts) -> “Required” art (raffle prizes [2 remain], Benrey project, 11 Bulbasaur gifts, 42 late Artfight attacks) -> Other stuff
When it comes to warm-ups, I’ve gone 32 times in a row of purely HLVRAI. It’ll still be thrown in the mix, but I’d like to add Pokemon and OCs as a chance too! Warm-ups include any requests I get, and those increase in chance the longer they’re there. Meanwhile there’s still the chance my random wheel will choose something like “Sunkist” three days in a row lol.
Now to discuss all the projects! First off, my next three art will be: raffle prize, a small special RTVS animation, and a doodle of my next hyperfixation which I’ll then open up for requests as well!
HLVRAI
“Cabinet Man” Animatic: A more long-term project that’s fully storyboarded so far, but I plan on making rendered (or at least colored) illustrations for.
I have two parts in my Multi-Animator-Project! One part is Benrey and Gordon focused, while the other part is Tommy, Bubby, and Coomer focused, so I get to animate the whole Science Team and that excites me!! (One part still open by the way, hint hint.) The MAP itself is a third of the way complete let’s goooooo!
Other animation projects include: “Two Birds” Tommy and Benrey friendship animatic (fully written), “Eighth Wonder” Tommy animatic (just an idea, focusing on the others first), and occasional clips or mini animations.
Benrey Fanart (and then the other characters too!): I have 12 people left to reach out to, but I gotta do it slowly so my account doesn’t get shadowbanned again (that was scary ngl). But once I do, the sign-up post will be updated regularly as I work and I’ll DM everyone individually as I finish theirs!
@sweetvoicecafe ! I am very excited to get this up and running! I have 3 references remaining, and then I can work on the introductory comic. (I mayyyyyyyy call for voice actors.)
HLVRAI-based OCs: This is a more minor thing, but I want to finish 9 more designs before Artfight, as I’ve only finished Joshie.
Pokemon
It’ll be a while longer until it’s ready, but I’d like to restart my Shiny Living Dex Challenge. And it’ll no longer be discord only, I’ll extend it to tumblr as well! Especially since there’s art prizes involved.
I have 11 remaining Bulbasaur/Ivysaur/Venusaur gifts to finish!
The occasional warmup, request, doodle, etc.
“Close Up Meme” Phanthop AU Animatic that I would love to polish and color.
“Never Love an Anchor” Hop and Leon animatic that I have indeed started (just an animatic this time, not polished)
I’ve started releasing collab (with @mr-web ) Art Podcasts on my youtube channel hint hint ;)
Misc.
Streams: Over on my Twitch (same name): I stream weekly (maybe more, depending on my new work schedule, just finished moving after all). At the moment, I’m taking turns with Half Life (nearly done with game one) and Omori (collab with Doglord15). Soon it’ll (hopefully) include Pokemon, but I’d also like to try Undertale Yellow, Portal, Hollow Knight, and more! As well as a return to art streams, that’d be cool.
Artfight Prep: I am mostly done, but remaining I have: 3 SVC refs, 9 HLVRAI OC refs, and fully updating my spreadsheet, which will also be updated on tumblr! (I may do this today, as it’s something I can do while bed-ridden.) Plus the 42 leftover revenges.
Among Us “Bark Bark” Animatic: nearly 3 years in the works but it’s chugging . . . there were complications with the cameos involved that hurt my motivation and the progress, but it’s still in the works haha…
“Haunted House” Vent Animatic: This is 2/3s of the way complete! As it’s something personal, I worked on it quickly after a certain event, but I’d still like to finish it. <3
New Hyperfixation: Surprise reveal! It’s Wreck-It Ralph (and specifically Hero’s Cuties). It won’t be a huge thing, but I’d like to doodle here and there, open requests for it, and draw up three AU designs that have been in my mind for nearly 13 years.
@theairshipexperiment : Yes yes, I knowwwwwwwwwwwww y’all are mad at me. It’s been three years and I still get people upset that it hasn’t continued. It’s not completely canceled, just very very slowww. I’m nearly done writing chapter 3, but that means there’s 7 chapters to go. At least I’ve started giving myself completely random reminders for times to write haha. It’s my only writing project atm, but writing takes so much more effort from me than art, I’m sorry.
@absurdamongus : Very low on my list, but I still enjoy their designs and would one day like to continue finishing their refs and maybe reopen an ask blog. An animated series would still be cool, but it’d be a long way off if so.
So yeah, a lot of projects and a lot of excitement! I’m going at a fair pace (when I’m not sick) and art continues to be my passion! <3

The Visual Genius Behind UY2022 [Animation]- An Analysis 🧐 (Long Post)
Hai there, hope you’re having a great day! Today on ‘Yuca Analyzes Silly Things (For No Reason)’, we’ll be talking the next half about how the remake uses different methods and techniques to achieve the fun aesthetic it’s known for as well as analyzing colors!
Note: There’s a lot to talk about when it comes to this topic, so I might not be able to cover ‘everything’, So I’m only analyzing sub- topics which comes to mind. And all of my sayings are merely observations based on what is shown and is not canonical fact in how the series was made (there’s the chance that a different approach was used as well after all). They are not confirmed unless specifically mentioned.

But, first…
…I want to talk about something I missed previously, which I was reminded by the notes in one of the reblogs, which is.. The shape of Lum’s eyes (I’ve thought of this before but I forgot to write about it). Lum’s eyes in the remake are a bit different to how it is in the later parts of the manga. There, it shares the same shape as Shinobu’s eyes for example, but here it looks more like her earlier eye design:
Why this? I’ve though about it and I was reminded of a RT interview I had read where she said:
Of course, Lum’s eyes changed as time went because of her artistic evolution, but I think this might be one of the reasons her ‘slanted’ eyes were kept, as in to pay homage to the early art style. It could also be because they wanted to give her more unique eye shape compared to the other girls…
Colors, colors and colors!
Now onto one of my favorite things in general….
…Color Palettes (and monochrome colors as well, but we’ll include that in this for now because I don’t want to create a separate section for that one)!!
I absolutely love the remake’s use of colors!! In general they make scenes even more eye catching than they normally would, but there are cases where the use of color palettes are complete genius, which I will prove with a few examples…
Our first example is from episode 1, when Ataru meets Lum’s dad. When the scenes swaps from Lum’s dad’s greeting to Ataru screaming “ONIII!!” The background with Mr. Invader (Not his actual name, but I’m calling him that because it’s easier) gets color paletted (I’m pretty sure that’s not a word but whatever…). If you look closely and if you’re familiar with Japanese mythology, you can see that Lum’s dad is colored red with light yellow horns…. Just like the actual Oni from the myths…
I also love how well colors are used to elevate extreme emotions, most often shock or surprise…
(Lmao, I just realized both siblings had the exact same SHOCK sequence… I do have to note that the duplicating method adds to the sequence as well…)
That’s all the images I’ll show since these are pretty easy to find…
The aspect that makes this better is the fact that since in the 80’s cell animation couldn’t have stuff like blending modes and special effects and stuff that digital animation has nowadays, they had to rely on color usage like this as well…
So at the same time it’s like a nice little shout out to cell animation in general…
And also a moment of appreciation of how this scene was handled…
Since the manga is in black and white, you can’t tell the difference between ink and blood since they’re both colored black. It’s a bait which is difficult to convey into anime because it’s in color and blood and ink are suddenly no longer alike because of the colors, the remake manages to convey it with the power of color palettes and monochrome colors it had in the first place as shown above for a well done bait joke…
And finally, it’s just outright pretty…
Smooth and Fun Animation
Now to talk about the animation itself! First up we have a small detail I like. Do you know about the method used to make the animation extra fluid and kinda cartoony by drawing in something that doesn’t seem right in the frame but helps in the animation overall (I don’t know what it’s called)? Well, this particular method results in a frame or two in a scene to look like:
It’s a method the original anime used A LOT for it’s characters, even for that particular era. Since most modern anime aren’t doesn’t have a cartoony style like UY, they don’t use it (they use other methods instead). So what about the remake???
Yup, the remake has it’s moments as well..
The animation in general is like most modern anime with some cartoonish movements from more cartoony characters like Ataru (pictured above and) and Rei (Cow-Pig form).
I also love how beautiful the animation is in the second half of episode 5 and 10, most of the details are pretty obvious there so I won’t talk about it, but here’s one of the smaller details I like…

I love how the clouds move slowly, like how it naturally would, like they didn’t have to do that yet they did it anyway and that’s quite the effort and it adds to the scene overall…
Miscellaneous
This section is more about the miscellaneous aspects, or to be specific ,three other things I noted which also contributes to the animation aspect.
First up, SFX. SFX is what you call the Japanese Onomatopoeia (or sound effects) which is written on screen. It’s mostly used in manga than anime because manga isn’t an audible type of media, unlike anime, which is. Because of that, not many anime uses it and only a certain do, which includes the UY remake. Not only does it add a bit more to the scene, but it also makes it more enjoyable because of the voice acting since the voice actors read every SFX out, where it sounds silly enough (in Japanese at least, the English dub is on a whole different level).
Next up, Backgrounds. Okay, so when I started the remake’s first episode I was in awe as to how the backgrounds for the scenes look, like it’s very pastel compared to the saturated colors of everything else, not to mention, very detailed…
Also, let’s appreciate how beautiful the backgrounds for outer space looks…
Another thing I like is the stock backgrounds, stock backgrounds are pretty common in anime, but I love how the remake uses it to play up and convey the character’s emotion by making the stock lines move according to how their expressions elevate…
Moving on, Can we appreciate how retro and traditional it looks when they color like this (this is actually based on a method of coloring from the 80’s after all)??
And finally appreciation for the beautiful lighting…
Conclusion
And that is All! The remake is absolutely stunning with very beautiful details which I can’t help but love and you can really see a lot of love was put into it. This ended up being more of an appreciation post than an analysis, lol 😅. Anyways, I apologize if I’ve overlooked anything or made any mistakes. Happy one year to the QSMP!!!!
There’s a lot going on with the server right now that is being sorted out, but I just want to share my appreciation for every part of this project.
This server means so much to me. I used to watch DSMP and it will always hold a special place in my heart, but as anything does, it ended. It was already dwindling out but I think the thing that really did it was technoblade passing. And I’m gonna be honest I’m still not over that. I watched him more than any other creator, he means so much to me. The time in between his death and the start of the qsmp was especially sad. I was just missing a lot. Him, the server he played on, that community, etc.
I wanted to engage with the content from the people that he played with, but it was hard. Every update about him, such as technodad streaming, dream making the song about him, was a lot emotionally.
Also not to mention I was sooo hyperfixating on both him and the dream smp as a whole. So it left a big void in my life. I wanted to be wholeheartedly invested in something again.
Around the beginning of 2023, I started watching old Quackity vods and that became my new comfort thing. Just the silly ones where he was watching soap operas and stuff.
Then not so long after I had started doing that, he announced the QSMP. I cannot describe to you my excitement. That week or so before it started I was just so excited. And before that lmaoooo I was not thriving. School was crazy busy, I cut my own bangs and it looked terrible, and that pretty much exemplifies where I was at.
I remember switching to slimecicle’s perspective at some point during the first stream and I followed him, fit, roier, and Mariana as they went mining and were very silly. I smiled the whole time. And then, I watched more the next day, and the next day.
I had forgotten what it felt like to be a part of something that was actively taking place. It had been a while since that was how the dream smp was. I would go weeks or months without any updates, and I would just be by myself reading fanfics.
It felt really fucking good to be able to enjoy something new. Not to replace what I had before, but to start a new adventure. That’s what it feels like to me.
There was a lot to keep up with at first and luckily I had social media to sum things up for me.
Fast forward and the Brazilian members join, then the French. Each time I was a little hesitant to accept them with open arms into my mind palace but it wasn’t very long until I couldn’t imagine the server without them.
And from day 1 I was so impressed with the planning and story of the server, forcing people to stay interested. That’s something the dream smp didn’t have. I honestly don’t think I would need any of the events to have a good time, but oh my god do they make it so fun.
And the animatics???? Hello?????? I love it so much.
Now I’ve learned to accept any new members immediately. Korean members join? TIME TO DRAW THEM!
Quackity started this project with a clear vision. It is so clearly a huge passion project for him. I don’t doubt for a second that it will keep going no matter what happens.
This server has exposed me to so many creators I would never have even heard of and that’s the point. I only speak English. Without this server, I would not know half of my current silly little blorbos.
I can’t believe how creative and funny Roier is. I think about Cellbit Bagi’s lore all the time. I find myself saying “I am the best!” After Etoiles. I’ve tried to absorb as much of the fuga impossivel lore as I can. I adore Baghera’s chaos. Even some of the English speaking people I didn’t really watch that much, like jaiden, fit, even slimecicle, who I now watch probably more than anyone else.
The other day, I watched the stream of cellbit and roier playing hospital 666. In Spanish!! I don’t speak Spanish!!! I only understood about half of what they’re saying and I’m sure that half is because of QSMP. That’s incredible. This is something so much bigger than any one of us.
QSMP has given me so many people to start watching and drawing/writing/thinking about. It has given me hours upon hours of laughing and smiling. It has given me a new hyperfixation to occupy my thoughts before bed.
It means so much to me. Ever since it started, I’ve been so much happier. I could never have imagined something like this would come around. Honestly, there is not anything like this. It is the first of its kind, hopefully not the last 👀
A year went by fast. And I’m so glad to have been here since the beginning. But even then, new people join this community all the time. That’s so cool. This server has in just a year added so many more content creators, and by extension, fans. It’s insane.
And I am so, so excited for what the future will bring us 😊

Honestly, what started your interest with these specific game characters? (Btw, I don't know if this has been asked before or not since I'm quite new to you and your comics! Amazing work btw.)
Also what peeked your guy's drawing and writing interests? It would be interesting to know how you guys got to this point. 😁

It has not actually been asked before! Your the first, so for anyone who’s interested in some Feral and Sly lore well feel free to click the read more since it’s kinda long lol
For the interest in Sun/Moon/Eclipse, Feral was honestly the first one to get drawn in, she has been a long time fan of fnaf, likes to brag about how good she was at the first few games (she is I’ve seen it lol) so her getting interested in SB was obvious, she especially like this one for it highly interactive gameplay
I on the other hand knew of fnaf but I was never in the fandoms or played any games, anything I knew about the games was either seen while scrolling thru tumblr or my little brother blasting a gameplay in our room and I didn’t mind listening in if it was YouTuber I liked as well
Feral got a bit interested in the boys after reading a few fics around last year June, she tried to catch my attention but I didn’t really bite at the time, it was around August were she caught my attention when she first drew them, saying they reminded her of me, even drew Sun with chipped rays as a little call to my SH scars but it kinda dropped off since we were in the midst of fighting with the system to let us get married lol
Around December it really kicked in for her and then me, I started delving into reading fics and searching for fan art and was like “oh shit das me” and feral ran with it saying let’s do self insert shit and I was totally down for it, it wasn’t the first time we did something we’re she put herself in and I was a character that I related to heavily
From there we started planning the storyline but decided to do little meant to be yours animatic to kick off some attention towards our stuff lol
As for what got us interested into writing and drawing? Honestly the answer is the same for both of us, we started drawing young them jumped into writing for our own little stories and ideas, we’ve both always been artistic from a young age and when we met it was one of the first things we bonded over, oh and I do also have a passion for singing as well! Which also caught her attention I used to send her audios all the time or sing on call for her
Just something about being able not only to write your own stories but create visual pieces really helps when you have extremely hyperactive minds and imagination, sometimes we yell at each other cuz someone says something cursed and cuz of how we can perfectly see the image in our mind it makes the cursed thought so much worse 😭
But yeah that’s pretty much it! Love of creativity and such started our art and writing passion and that led to us wanting to create our stuff now here with the lovely robo boys, we do have our projects of course, Feral plans on making a comic/book (2 in one kinda thing) that’s gonna be a trilogy and I have my own OC’s that I still world build with
Not to mention all our world building with OCs weve plan on making into story’s as well in the future ✨

Hey you’ve mentioned various Will Wood songs in your art before. What are your top five favourite songs?
Aaa this is such a fun ask to get but oh no just five?
1. Against the Kitchen Floor (all time favorite song really resonates with me)
2. I/Me/Myself (the only song that I’ve ever felt really relates to my experience with the horror of gender and identity)
3. Cicada Days (the live version specifically) (love that he just screams the last verse. It rules)
4. Laplace’s Angel (Hurt People? Hurt People!) (Will always has great lines but I absolutely love the lyricism in this one. There’s good puns)
5. Hmmmm toss up between 2econd 2ight 2eer and Um It’s Kind of A Lot (two completely different vibes I know I contain multitudes)
But trust me this is tough. This might not always be the case. I have all of In Case I Make it and The Normal Album downloaded and listen to all of the songs pretty consistently, and I listen to a bunch from the other albums too. I have so many animatic ideas the art is going to continue.

I’m gonna infodump and ramble about dsmp lore because i’ve just watched all the sad-ist animatics and my brain is making me wanna scream about it
— // spoilers for dsmp, may be dark themes, some content may be triggering for certain readers. Everything is c! , unless otherwise specified
I’m gonna start my ramble with c!technoblade, because in my opinion his character is severely misjudged in several situations. I encourage discussion over this, but also someone got extremely angry at me once over this so as stupid as this is gonna sound please respect my thoughts please and thank you x
Techno joins the game to help out his friends, Tommy and Wilbur, in taking down a government that wronged them.
Reasons he did this:
1. To help his friends when they were in need of a power he held
2. To see the fall of a government - anarchy
3. Knowing him he probably had nothing else better to do
Just him joining the server shows his motives, his beliefs, and his relationships with other characters. He cares about his friends to put his life on the line, and canonically his citizenship in one of the only proper countries.
My man literally said “my friends are in need i’m gonna go help them :D”
And then, he told them his beliefs. He said how he was against government overall and wanted to take the government down, and wilbur and tommy went ‘yep great cool we can work with that’. So, Techno spent days upon days farming potatoes, grinding for netherite and potions and tnt and so so many things to help them take over the most powerful people on the server. Techno spent so much time on these people, he helped them take down the opposition in the war of manberg vs pogtopia.
And then they put a new president in power.
Wilbur and Tommy knew this directly opposed their most powerful ally’s only condition for his help, and Tommy was surprised when Techno betrayed them. Bestie, wake up, you literally betrayed him, ily but also- should’ve expected it.
Anyways, Techno’s like ‘literally everyone hates me, so ima run away to the snow to make them happier and i also can’t be arsed with government i’m gonna live alone in the snow’ and they go ‘hahahah no we’re the butcher army formed to unalive you’ and literally blackmail this man.
Did Techno kinda kill a bunch of people and spawn two withers? Yes. Does he deserve some kind of punishment? Probably. But if he’s literally left your country for the better of you and you actively seek him out to take his life? Yeah that’s not very cool of you man
Oh and not to mention they put his mate on house arrest and stole his things just to unalive him, that also wasn’t very cool.
What was cool however was Techno being an absolute badass and escaping with all three lives anyways. That man was literally in the worst position being blackmailed after trying to be peaceful and still got out alive. Then quackity got stabbed in the face with an axe, which was lowkey deserved seeing as he was holding Carl captive, like don’t bring animals into it what did they ever do to you? The pet war was enough pet stress thank youuuuu
After that was the exile stuff wasn’t it? Tommy’s just escaped from a toxic environment after an attempt on his life seeking refuge in his old friend’s home.
Now, this part is something that I absolutely love about Techno’s character.
Before this point, Techno had been wronged by Tommy. Tommy had gone against him, betrayed him, got mad at him for taking Tubbo’s life despite him not exactly having an option. Techno had no reason to let him stay. Not to mention Tommy hardly asked, he kind of broke in, stole his things and demanded it be his home and tried to kick Techno out.
And you know what Techno did? He offered protection, he offered help, he offered his home and he offered to be Tommy’s friend.
Despite literally everything he still went ‘sure tommy you can stay, and i’ll even help you get your discs back!’
And, omg, when he opened the door to the room with the wither skulls and said ‘no body’s seen this, not even phil’. Oh my goodness, shivers. Techno and Phil are like closest besties, Techno would trust Phil with his life, and he still trusts Tommy to see his hard work before anyone else.
Some would say it was a threat, Techno seeing the threat on this wanted exiled child staying under his roof and wanting to send a message to him to not even try and threaten him or his friends. Like for example when Tommy took Antfrost hostage and made him mine, tried to take Techno hostage and immediately backed off with the threat; Tommy knows how powerful Techno truly is, he couldn’t mess with him.
Personally, I would say it’s quite the opposite. It’s a way for Techno to say ‘i trust you, i’ll protect you no matter the cost’. Maybe that’s just my bedrockbros fluff loving brain, but remember when Tommy and Techno were surrounded by the server and Tommy decided to join them instead of stand beside Techno? And Techno said something along the lines of ‘i’ll fight them all off, you run’. He was literally willing to risk everything to get Tommy away safe, he was worried for him and was going to sacrifice his life.
And after everything Techno did for Tommy, he went back to the people who hurt him and away from the one person who’d offered him protection no matter how much he hurt him in the past.
And that fact, that Techno was going to sacrifice everything for a kid who cared little for him at all, hurts me way more than it should for minecraft roleplay.
I’m gonna be honest and say I have no clue what happened between then and Doomsday. Genuinely, I have zero clue, so I’m gonna watch some vods tonight of between then and doomsday to see how in hells name they got from tommy rejoining new l’manberg and techno, phil and dream blowing up new l’manberg and making it into l’manhole.
Anyways, this is the only part of c!technoblade that i just sit and wonder why he did that.
I’m assuming he was angry at them, angry at the butcher army for trying to unalive him and for putting phil on house arrest. He once said how if someone showed him kindness he would repay it tenfold, but if someone caused harm to his friends they would be absolutely fucked (not his words). They threatened Phil, and therefore they paid for it.
Do i agree with his reasoning? Not really no, but I can see where he was coming from. Spite is a powerful motivator.
His other part of reasoning would be the concept of anarchy, of taking down the government that was telling people what they should do. To be on Tubbo’s side here is literally the only right thing, as much as i love c!techno, Tubbo tried his best to protect his people and build a safe country, similar to early l’manberg but with a significant lack of dictators and discrimination. New L’Manberg was, all in all, a welcoming country, and Tubbo made sure of that.
And then, boom.
Literally it was all blown up.
After doomsday, not much happened for a while really. They just kinda chilled.
Then, you know what was formed? The absolutely awesome and infamous Syndicate, an anarchy group that is so incredible they did nothing but sound awesome. The Syndicate are literally my favourite people ever.
Boom Dream’s in prison, Quackity tricks Techno into going in, locks him in, Techno being absolutely awesome goes ‘how can i make the most of this? I know: gain knowledge’
So that’s what he does, forcing dream to write books on books of everything he knows before finally getting teleported out.
Now, for those who don’t know, Techno owed Dream a favour. Remember how i said Techno got his life threatened by the butcher army and got his horse Carl stolen? Yeah Dream kinda helped him get Carl back, smart move on his end, and made him indebted to Dream. So, Techno kind of had to get Dream out, and also got Ranboo out in the process? We never found out why Ranboo wanted to go into the prison so bad, I have a feeling it was his enderwalking or something but whatever.
Guess who dies? Ranboo. Jeez that was forever ago wasn’t it? Poor Tubbo he deserved so much better.
Then after that it was THE REVENGERS. The best trio ever who literally no one expected;
A traitor, an anarchist and an ex-president.
All joined together to save Michael the beloved, and to be horrible to Sam who literally let a prisoner, albeit a terrible person, be tortured and trap an almost but also kind of not innocent person inside with him (Techno did bad things but not bad enough to be in the main cell of Pandora’s Vault, that place was meant for someone as horrible as c!dream).
The Revengers was definitely one of my favourite streams; three people who are meant to hate each other putting aside their differences for one common goal, and coming out civil. I think it was pretty awesome, character development my beloved.
And that was basically c!techno. In summary, he was caring, protective of his friends, stuck to his beliefs, stuck to his word, strong, and he was able to put aside his emotions for the better of others on several occasions.
C!technoblade is one of my favourite characters, he was developed amazingly, his humour was fantastic. Everything he did for tommy and wilbur was more than he should’ve, he put his all into making sure others were okay even when he hated them. Did he blow up a few people and a few countries? Maybe. But he was awesome, and i find people misunderstand him a lot.
I could talk about c!technoblade for ages and not get bored, he’s so interesting and I could study his every action and continue to say how awesome he is, but we must move forward onto my next favourite character:
C!Wilbur.
Now, the difference between c!techno and c!wilbur is the fact that most of c!techno’s things i picked out were unintentional, whereas c!wilbur was so thoughtfully created and shaped into this selfish lying character.
Wilbur joined and immediately made a drug van, dragging Tommy with him. This drug van was developed into L’manberg, and Wilbur took his role as president seriously, fighting for his country’s independence. But you know who finally gained them independence after several walls and wars? A child who was dragged into the entire thing by his big brother, a child who gave up two of the most important things to him to give his older brother what he wanted most.
L’manberg gained independence, but Wilbur knew he was a dictator. Now, this, in my opinion, is the first time we see the real c!wilbur.
Wilbur says “let’s run an election but make me the only running candidate”, his first proof of manipulative nature that sends his country into literal ruins (butterfly effect is certainly something). Obviously, people are against this, especially Quackity who was rejected citizenship because he wasn’t european. Quackity was angry at Wilbur, and knew the best way to piss him off would be to take away what he built from the ground up.
Wilbur’s like ‘well fuck I gotta play this off’, which is his first time actively lying.
Election in summary: POG2020 (wilbur) gets 45% of the overall votes. SWAG2020 (quackity) loses. But, Schlatt had formed his own government (SCHLATT2020) and formed a coalition government with SWAG2020, together gaining 46% of the vote. Coconut2020 (fundy) gained the other 9%.
Wilbur and Tommy were exiled, Technoblade joined the server.
Now, exile was not easy on Wilbur.
For a while, he’d been sending letters to Philza, his Dad, and had started lying. Wilbur had wrote how he’d won the election, how he was doing well. Why would he lie? Phil’s his dad right? Philza is a caring character, he would love his son and help his son, why would Wilbur lie?
Well, he’d put all of his effort into building this nation, he probably felt weak admitting that he’d lost everything he’d created, how he’d let down Tommy and he didn’t want to admit that.
This was the start of Wilbur’s drive to insanity.
Exile absolutely destroyed Wilbur. He wanted to feel empowered, he wanted to have control. So, he took advantage of those around him.
What Wilbur truly wanted was his country back (though at the end of exile he felt like he had no choice, he felt like it wasn’t his and he gave it up), and he saw Techno offering his help and took advantage of it.
He saw Tommy willing to do anything for Wilbur, following his steps, wanting to become president because Wilbur was a president. He saw Tommy wanting to be the hero and led him in the revolution, made Tommy feel like he was a part of something bigger than himself. Wilbur was in control of Tommy, and he made sure to take advantage of this, making him feel weaker than he was capable of (“you’re never going to be president, Tommy”) so he would listen to and follow his every word and command.
Manberg vs Pogtopia, they win. But Wilbur’s lost all sense of self; he isn’t the courageous respected man he once was, but a shell of him, and he knows this.

Wilbur gets his country back, and he puts Tommy in charge. A child who had to grow up too fast, a child who’s been under his brother’s arm and also his control without knowing, a child who was exiled aged 16 who was dragged into a horrid world full of death and horror.
Tommy had gone through so much, and so he handed over the country to the person he trusted the most; Tubbo.
Wilbur, meanwhile, leaves, knowing Technoblade will betray them in to go to the button room (i swear it has a name i just don’t remember it), where his father - who in fact he’s been lying to for however long - shows up and stops him. His song is etched into wood on the walls, an example of his identity, of his life’s work, of his love for singing and his entire reasoning for living. And his father shows up, telling him to stop, telling him there’s more to life, that his symphony doesn’t have to be unfinished. (“My l’manberg! Phil! My unfinished symphony forever unfinished!”)
Wilbur feels lost and alone. He’s manipulated his friends and lied to his father (cough cough c!wilbur’s two most distinctive traits cough cough). He knows he isn’t his father’s son anymore, he isn’t the kid who won the election, and this guilt eats him up so much he throws his sword at his father’s feet and orders him to kill him.
The country is blown up at Wilbur’s hand. In English Teacher Terms (ETT^TM), this symbolises him ending his manipulative and lying ways. Everything he built, lost, and got back has been destroyed, and his people stare at him as his father takes his final life.

Limbo: Wilbur was stuck in a train station for like 13-14 years.
Ghostbur: everything good about Wilbur. For example, his love for his family. Ghostbur spends a most of his time with Tommy, Techno and Phil. He has friend on a lead, the blue of his wool a symbol for how Wilbur tried to help people but his efforts were completely pointless. Ghostbur gives people some blue wool to rid them of their worries. It’s a childish fantasy, it doesn’t work no matter how much he wishes it would. Alivebur did this a lot, he did things that he thought would help others but it just didn’t, but his want to help was still evident, ghostbur just lacks the manipulative negative side of that.
Revivedbur: he immediately starts a new country, it’s all he knows, a form of comfort after years and years of the same horrid thing over and over and over again. He drags another child with him, Ranboo, and finds nostalgia in Tommy’s presence and controllability. When Wilbur was in limbo, Tommy went through hell and back, and it takes ages for Tommy to admit this, showing the lack of trust he now holds for Wil.
The moment Wilbur realises what Dream did to Tommy in exile, he goes ballistic. Wilbur still cares about Tommy, he still manipulates him and makes him do his bidding, but Tommy is still his brother and he still cares so much for him, so much so he’s willing to unalive his ‘hero’ for him. This shows how much he truly cares for Tommy, but i believe this also makes him come a realisation that his presence around Tommy was negative.
He has this moment of realisation where he goes “this kid has been wronged, i need to protect him- but my presence never truly helped him, maybe he would be better without me?”
So he begins his plan to leave. (To utah which totally isn’t an allegory of death, which totally doesn’t correlate to when he lost his final canon life, i’ll go into that at the end) he realises truly how many people he hurt, and he goes around and apologises to them.
Most people prove his point. Most people, the conversations went a bit like this:
“I’m sorry.”
“It’s okay I forgive you.”
Proving that people so easily fall at the feet of those powerful enough, or at the feet of those they love most.
Despite being wronged, they still hold their love for Wilbur for all the good things he did.
The only person who didn’t forgive him was his son, Fundy, who’d let his hatred for Wilbur sink in literal years ago when he went against them as coconut 2020 in the l’manberg election. Fundy met the same fate as his father, and it made Wilbur realise that maybe he didn’t deserve a better death than his son had.
But he doesn’t want Tommy to know that.
Now, in Wilbur’s latest stream (qsmp day 1), he said how Utah was an allegory to death. And that got me thinking: why would Wilbur lie to Tommy?
As I said previously, two of C!wilbur’s main traits were manipulation and lying. After he was revived, he led everyone to believe that he was a changed man. After everything, after exile and limbo and the burger van, he said how he’d changed.
But he never really changed, did he?
C!wilbur was an example of someone who, deep down, never truly changed. The things that did change, however, was his motivations.
Wilbur continued to lie. He lied to Tommy about Utah, but he said he was changed didn’t he?
In exile, he lied to protect himself. He lied because he felt weak, he felt angry, and he didn’t want anyone to feel like they had more power than he did, that they knew him better than he did.
As a wise man once said, “If you know thy self, and you know thy enemy, you need not fear the result of a thousand battles.” (Or something like that). Wilbur knew that if his enemy, and even his allies, knew him, they could control him, they could see through him and his lies and his manipulation.
But, after Tommy told him about exile, his motives changed from protecting himself to protecting his loved ones. He wanted to protect Tommy, and throughout his whole life there was one thing he knew best, and that was lying.

So when Tommy asked if Wilbur was going to unalive himself, he said no. He said he was going to Utah.
This showed he didn’t change in his ways; he didn’t find better ways to deal with things. But his motives changed.
C!wilbur once looked at c!tommy and saw a child full of potential. Before he left for “utah”, he looked at Tommy and saw a child who never got to be. So he protected him from the truth, so that any remaining youth in him could be saved.
As i said before with Techno, i could talk about c!wilbur for ages, i didn’t even talk about ‘the wilbur van’ or ‘healthy competition’ or a more in depth reasoning and symbolism behind ghostbur.
However this post is very long, and i’m very tired, and this has taken me like two hours to write and i haven’t even talked about c!tommy and c!tubbo yet, so that is a job for another day. If you somehow read all this way, i am firstly very proud of you, and secondly i hope you enjoyed my somehow brief infodump about dsmp, because i have been hyperfixed on this server for over two years and I never get to talk about it, so yeah :D

This was one of my first nightcore songs, and something about it just felt so… magical 🌈 and 🌟mystical🌟… like a sort of window into another dimension? I still come back to it as my comfort song, kind of like a sonical blorbo…. A blorbo song? A slorbo? Yeeeaaah!

I (mostly) love my YouTube recommendations, and most of the time its cute (and very VERY impressive) animatics galore, and some of the music I’ve heard on them just sticks with me and lives rent free in my head. The one on this list has to be Sincerely, Me (from this animatic). Now I don’t know much about the song out of the context of this animatic, however rumour has it that it is rather twisted (again, I have actually no idea where it’s from, I never followed it up) but it’s so insanely catchy I find myself head-playing it on repeat and listen to it to scratch that very specific itch… the animation is absolutely 🌟amazing🌟 too in that video, and I keep coming back! Also I’d like to show you Think U Know by Ikson, found in this animatic by none other than cudlil :P I love her channel, and all the music she uses!
So there you go! Now I know it may seem a bit like a genre rank, but I assure you it’s not. It’s not, it’s not not ntotntotntotn noooooo
It’s just that I sort of categorise songs by the way they make me feel, and most of the time the ones listed from 2-5 can be interchanged (meaning I like them all equally)

Okay here comes the orange side theory, I also might use this theory in an animatic I might make.
Logan is the orange side, he always has been, he just doesn’t know it. All the sides each have a corresponding color, Roman is red and Janus is yellow etc. All together we get a rainbow, but not orange, we have two blues. I’ve always found that a bit confusing. Logan has been showing more anger recently, with him throwing a paper at puppet Roman in LNTAO, saying “I’m sorry. I’m not sure what that was..”
then again when he yelled at Remus in WTIT. He said “Stop… Ignoring me!”
right after he began to look confused and readjusted himself feeling that same feeling after throwing the paper at Puppet Roman. I believe that Logan is the orange side. He is just finally realizing it. (Maybe.)
“ Like you said, aren't there two blue sides? Couldn’t Patton be the orange side?”- Well that’s possible but.. he hasn’t really shown anything like Logan has with anger or… his eyes glowing ORANGE.
“How do you know it’s not a new side?” - Well I don’t. It really is only just a guess, I also think he isn’t going to represent anything different like “anger” or “regret” or something like that. He’s still logic… just.. different.
“Do any of the light sides (Virgil Included) know about the orange side?” - I have two answers. Yes, and no. It’s possible they know of an orange side like they knew about Janus and Remus.. They probably don’t know. Though in the Anniversary Video, Remus says “Not like what’s coming up… Oh Honey, you have a big storm comi-” before he gets cut off. Then AFTER with Logan in WTIT, Janus says “Yes, everything is just fine…” then the eyes glow after it cuts to black.
So maybe only Janus and Remus do?
Which leads me to another question.
“Do the light sides (Virgil excluded) know that Virgil is a dark side?” (This is still connected to the theory I’m getting somewhere.) I honestly don’t have an answer for this one, because if they did they might have brought it up?? In the courtroom Janus mentions that Virgil has “ never been reluctant to share anything with the group”
…So they don’t know?!? Cause, Virgil only admitted being a dark side to Thomas…. ALONE. So?!?! if they already knew that the other two existed, and hypothetically “know” about Virgil.. wouldn’t they know about the orange side too? I don’t know.
The sides have shown no knowledge of the orange side except a few hints from Remus, Janus, and technically Logan.
All together Logan is showing his true colors (pun intended) and finally becoming the orange side. (This also doesnt mean orange is a dark side.) ALSO THE ORANGE AT THE END OF THE VIDEO? THE FORESHADOWING. I'M SO SCARED FOR WHAT'S GONNA HAPPEN. Thank you for reading. (Sorry if something’s don’t make sense I’ve never made a theory thing like this before.

Okay time for talking about ideas/concepts/trivia I haven't explored!! A lot is old stuff but some is new, lots of thinking lately lol.
Also a reminder you can totally ask me questions if you're interested in something I haven't mentioned or want something elaborated further on. <3
I was going to introduce Barracuda, Lycanthropy, and the other player shapes as characters, at different points and under different circumstances of course. I did post one concept of Barracuda, but the others haven't graced this blog yet. (Still have to finalise all their designs/redesigns lol)
Was going to do a lot of Q & Square unofficially adopted parent/child moments. Didn't have anything specific planned but just really looked forward to the potential fluff/angst etc. of it all lol
I was also gonna do shameless Square/Fresh shipping lmao. Its my story they can kiss if I want!!
Chip was gonna get a girlfriend. :)
Was going to bring up Qs past. It wasn't going to be super important/relevant in the long run, but it was going to be discussed.
I reeeaaally wanted to do some animatics. I'm not brilliant at that kind of thing but god I couldn't get them out of my head lol. Still can't haha. Especially one for the track "first crush" by Sabrepulse. ;)
This is a newer thought but I’ve been exposed to some new songs recently via my sibling playing rhythm games and GOD some of those tracks really made me go “I NEED to incorporate this into my jsab au somehow”. They slap dude. These songs fuck severely and I need to choreograph fight scenes to them.
A BIG concept I wanted to introduce was individuals having a "true song" (still workshopping the name) intrinsic to them that gives them their abilities. Square can hear them if he listens carefully. :)
Qs true song was gonna be a big reveal haha. It's not Close To Me. :^)
Considering the start of the blog was set approx. maybe only 1 or 2 months after the event of the game, there was gonna be a lot of Processing Trauma. Fresh is a recently rehabilitated force of destruction. Square just remembered he's basically god. It's all a lot to come to terms with haha. Denial can only last so long lol.
The main plot thing I wanted to eventually get to was basically "where did square come from and what are the repercussions of inserting himself among the mortals he created?"
I haven't pinpointed any characters' ages other than "around this area". Except Huey. Huey is definitely 17 lol. Everyone else is solidly an adult. Square and Fresh are mentally young adults. (Immature young adults, but still. Lol)
Before the game Chip lived mostly at sea, but after everything she decided to settle down to be close to her friends. :) She still spends a good amount of time out on the water, but she has people and a place to come home to now. uwu
Huey's special interest is flying/flying machines! When he and Square met in the factory, he was actually testing out a small single person craft he built when he got stuck.
Fresh is really into his creative hobbies. After knowing only destruction, creating is really fun and healing for him. :)
Q has a plethora of skills, most are expected because they live rurally and try to be as self sufficient as possible, but some are very out of left field lol.
Square likes dresses and being barefoot because of sensory issues, and swooshy dresses are very stimmy. :)
Sleeves don't agree with Fresh and his weird arms lol so he wears exclusively sleeveless shirts. God forbid he ever have to attend a formal event.
Fresh seems like the biggest source of potential angst, and yeah there's a lot there, but Square actually has more baggage of the two! While Fresh is up front about his traumas and insecurities, Square keeps all his stuff to himself. Fresh gets to hear a little bit but only because the two of them just understand and relate to each other in a way the others couldn't.
Aaaand that’s everything I’ve got I think!! I need to work on like, proper ref art and bios for the characters and stuff. Develop some underdeveloped aspects some more. I also need to shitpost more lol. Again feel free to ask questions or whatever!! I don’t currently really know how to move forward other than occasionally posting art so responding to you guys’ thoughts/suggestions for drawings or whatever would be good.

Do you listen to AJR? I saw you mention Worlds Smallest Violin before but don’t know if you just know that one cause it’s popular. They’re rlly cool! Karma is one of their songs similar to Worlds Smallest Violin, my favorite by them is Dear Winter
I heard it from a dsmp animatic and thought it was really reminiscent of suns time when his brother was infected. I’m still working on the little lyric comic thing for that. I’ve never heard any other songs from AJR though, I’ll check out Karma and Dear Winter though! I’m always looking for more songs for my playlist! :D

i’ve been wanting to do a design change for a while for a lot of the characters, mostly because the other designs were made years ago, but i didn’t have any other designs in mind to use. the designs i’m voting on here are for an animatic my sister is working on that i made the designs for, and decided i really liked
ignore the labels for these btw, again, they’re for an animatic, also for holly ignore the “i’m actually not part of the prophecy” design aspect because in this au, she is!!
since these designs are a LOT more complex than just different shaped fur (i,,, did not like having that be the only difference between characters, it felt lazy, but as mentioned before they were the only designs i had/could make up in enough time) the ask responses will take quite a bit longer. also, because i’m returning to full color as well as the addition of actually drawn backgrounds!!!!! (maybe shading tbh. i’m debating adding cell shading) it’s a big change for this blog. a lot of the other designs will be changed in similar manners, but these are the only relevant characters who i’ll be adding this for. a lot of my art style has changed as well and i’ve been hating drawing in the art style for the ask blog lol. i’m working on different shaped eyes (not rlly shown in these tho), different eyebrows, adding whiskers, different designs for ears, varying body types, etc. (ALSO ALSO the floppy ears are from firestar’s sister, princess, that squilf and lion both inherited)
and another thing sorry for adding so announcements here but asks are closed in relation to the longest night gathering!! you can ask questions in preparation for the next day, but before that, there is a thing i’m working on that i think you’ll all take interest in :)

1. What fic of yours would you recommend to someone who had never read any of your work? (In other words, what do you think is the best introduction to your fics?)
Since it’s the only one of my multi-chapter fics that’s. You know. Finished, I think I’d have to point people towards Frametypes. It’s got everything I’m a slut for; villains, weird enemies-to-allies-to-lovers, side characters being shitheads, and a healthy heaping serving of worldbuilding. Using the characters to infodump, Dan Backslide style. No one will ever know. Either that or Triumvirate, to introduce one to my love of sidelined characters that I feel have been treated unjustly or simply incorrectly by the fandom at large.
2. Go to your AO3 “Works” page, to the sidebar with all the filters, and click the drop-down arrow for “Additional Tags.” What are your top 3-5 most used tags? Do you think they accurately represent your writing habits?
Backstory, Friendship and Worldbuilding. Sounds pretty accurate!
7. Any worldbuilding you’re particularly proud of?
I eat, sleep, and breathe worldbuilding, so I’m sure I could talk your metaphorical ear off about this. But I’m going to narrow it down to what I’ve written (cough. Going to write) regarding Blitzwing’s backstory in Triumvirate. I poured a lot of thought into the way one might go about something as insane as inventing the triple-changer procedure, and where I got with that regarding Astrotrain and Octane, giving them shout-outs and subsequent reasons why they’re absent in Animated proper.
8. What song would make a great fic (to either write or read)?
I’ve actually kind of experience this already, but there’s a certain point in The Brave Shall Heed The Call where the author mentions The Phoenix by Fall Out Boy as the perfect backing track to the chapter, and when I tell you it blew my tits clean off— but in terms of something that doesn’t already exist, I’d have to go with Babylon by Lady Gaga. The nightclub-fight vibes are undeniable.
12. Are there any tropes you used to dislike but have grown on you?
I actually don’t think so? My tastes have remained fairly consistent, the brain to which they belong has just gotten smarter around them.
13. Are there any tropes you used to like but don’t anymore?
I dimly remember thinking soulmate AUs and such were sweet when I was taking my first stumbling baby deer-esque steps into things, but I much prefer organically driven relationship tropes now. Stuffing soulmates and preordained stuff feels a little too Calvinist for my liking.
17. What highly specific AU do you want to read or write even though you might be the only person to appreciate it?
Animated StarOp Moulin Rouge AU. I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again, everything works. It’s definitely better appreciated in a brain-animatic sense, given the nature of musical theater, but I digress. (Also what would certainly turn out to be a novel’s worth of canon divergent TFA content in which Shockwave adopts Wasp. I will not be taking questions.)
37. Promote one of your own “deep cut” fics (an underrated one, or one that never got as much traction as you think it deserves!). What do you like about it?
It’s understandable that Orbits and Pieces hasn’t gotten a lot of attention, but I’m working on it! It was born out of a collaborative shitpost, as many good things are, and will fill in a missing scene with what I hope to be a good balance of humor, action, and side-character appreciation. Only five days pass between Wasp escaping the Stockades and arriving on Earth to exact his revenge, so how exactly did he get the electronic paint that caused so much trouble for Team Prime? Read this (when it’s finished) to find out. Give it a go and keep it in your sights!

Honestly this one is a bit tough!! I’ve always imagined it as... Not angsty PLA era. Like the two brothers KNEW this was going to happen and that after a period of time Ingo would go home. So just a much more upbeat vacation to the past?? There’d still be some sad feels (you don’t end up separated from your twin for a year and not miss him!) but just a lot less. I’m imagining no amnesia here either :)
Perhaps Arceus needed someone to help guide the protag, someone to help them improve at battling. Who better than a battle facility head, especially a facility that’s run by two people? So Ingo gets a free round trip to the past :)

Kinda just an intro with both of them! Probably with Ingo heading off through the portal with his brother and Elesa there to see him off :) There’s tears, but well wishes and hugs and the sort of things that happen when someone you love moves away.

This bit is a bit of them both! Eventually it does come time for Ingo to go home, after the protag does what they need to do and succeeds in saving Hisui. Emmet and Elesa are waiting for him! But he didn’t hate his time in Hisui, and will miss the people he met there.

Yup, time to head out and reunite with your family. Would be pretty funny if each brother called the other their sidekick lmao. I think they would!

Some messy sketches and doodles for Demon Slayer AU Shimada brothers.
OK OK, I know I’ve mentioned wanting to see KnY(Kimetsu no Yaiba) AU for the bros before, and for this doodle I wanted to lean on the anime a lil more :] so this is a version more similar to the Anime
but also this is different to what I had planned for the one AU I have in my pocket of the bros where the Shimadas clan hunt/slay demons in Hanamura and maybe go to other regions as well.
The Overwatch organization might come into picture later but for now i dont have that big of an idea except for the story for the Shimada brothers and how Genji became a demon and so on. Which I’d love to either write a fanfic about, make comics/story telling art, or animatic.
Yeah im still not letting this idea this go DHGDHD but also I’ll post some doodles/sketches between artfight stuff whenever I have any :] im gonna get BURNT

Since I love to take things in fiction apart and analyse, let’s finally talk about the unexpected pairing of Yashiki / Mashita from Spirit Hunter. May also be writing this because I’m hyped for the third game Shibito Magire and I miss them both. First off, this series is severely underrated. I wish it had more spotlight and can only hope it gets more love. It’s honestly a hidden gem in the horror genre. There’s going to be a lot of discussion about the first game’s main story and DLC, the sequel and some other details so if you want to check out the games yourself, warning that there will be SPOILERS below.
Going in to Death Mark (死印) completely blind, I didn’t know what to expect. I certainly didn’t expect to ship anything. At first glance it’s not really the setting for it, but horror and romance is a combination that should be explored more actually. And Yashiki and Mashita’s connection and chemistry just really shines in the game.
In the first chapter, the protagonist is a clean slate because of the amnesia but appears tender-hearted whereas when Mashita is first introduced, he’s cold and shady as hell, and despite the circumstances, he seems to be intrigued by Yashiki. Throughout the story it’s subtly shown that their bond is slightly different to the rest of the cast. They have more focus and development. While they may have their disagreements, they bounce off each other, have a deeper understanding and are even more relaxed around one another - although not at first. And Mashita’s disdainful, sardonic attitude, though caring more than he lets on is a perfect contrast to Yashiki’s kinder, empathetic nature. A detail I also noticed is that even their Marks are opposites. With the protagonist’s Mark on the back of their right wrist, while Mashita’s is on the underside of his left wrist. They mirror each other. Interesting. Meanwhile Mashita states he sensed his own Mark as soon as he saw Yashiki’s? I mean... I’ve heard that sort of line used as a set up for a lot of romances.
Later on, the dialogue options for scenes with Mashita and his reactions to any sort of affection or appreciation from Yashiki such as telling him he’s grateful for his help or that he’ll miss him when he leaves speak for themselves.
Leading into Chapter 2. Mashita is the first Mark Bearer to stay behind and willingly - even though his Mark had been cleared, unlike other characters. Of course his reasons are motivated by what Mary said and later revealed when appeasing Shimi-O. But there may have been another reason hinted. Mashita states before finally leaving that continuing to stick his neck out for Yashiki has grown too dangerous and apologizes, with the small detail that he clenches a shaking fist. Interpreting that, I think a tiny part of Mashita wanted to try and help the man as much as he was able, considering he was up against something way beyond them. Perhaps he saw an echo of his old mentor in Yashiki considering he is several years his senior, or he was just a little soft on the guy who desperately wanted to prevent any more victims of the curse as well as his own demise. At least a drink was on him if Yashiki lived through it. Also if you take Mashita along in the first investigation in this chapter, it gives a short but sweet moment of him catching Yashiki grinning next to him in the van.
After the events of the main story, it’s revealed that Mashita brings up the idea of Yashiki joining him as a partner as he becomes a private eye. It also won’t be the last time he brings it up. It’s interesting for someone like Mashita to try and persuade someone to work with him and to be a little persistent about it and the fact that it’s Yashiki specifically, makes you wonder. He obviously doesn’t mind his company.
The Red Riding Hood DLC holds one of their most memorable moments. As usual Mashita doesn’t act as brash and rude towards him like he does with the other Mark Bearers and the two have their back and forth interactions when they team up. Mashita protects Yashiki from a possessed Shou ambushing them and when he is forced to confront Red Riding Hood alone, about to plummet to his death.
We get this screen -
Very dramatic. Mashita being the one to save Yashiki like this and being the knight in shining trenchcoat aside, it’s more emphasis on them. It’s the game once again showing that their relationship is something just a little more than the others. Eventually the case comes to a close with the two returning to the mansion, talking about Hyakki Yagyō (Monster’s Parade) - A big implication of them working together again, Mashita giving Yashiki some advice from understanding his mindset and once again saying he could do some good with solving such cases. By this point, it’s pretty transparent that Mashita has a soft spot for him and has his own concerns for his well-being. In addition, even the alternate Blue End CD Drama with Concept! Mashita refuses to give up on Yashiki when he becomes possessed.
The sequel, NG takes place five years following. Since it’s an all new cast and story, they are only briefly referenced. However it’s shown that they continue to work together, such as the two travelling with other members to Rabbit Island and another occasion where they took care of a spirit that killed Ban’s son. Also during the events of the game, Rose mentions that Yashiki is abroad on a business trip with a friend. It’s not confirmed whom he was travelling with but we know the high possibility of who it could be considering.
Overall, despite the small fandom, a large amount of fans also caught onto their subtext. It’s a popular - if not the most popular - pairing and receives a lot of attention in the form of fanarts / doujins / fanfictions / animatics. I have a feeling the creators have at least seen how well received the duo are. I personally haven’t seen that many ship dynamics like this with older, maturer characters particularly in horror and this one works so well, which is mostly why I find it so appealing. These two paired together would certainly be refreshing to see.
All this bases a really special friendship, but it could also be something more underneath. Like any, it’s all up to the player’s interpretation but more than enough the focus is on what they easily could be. Even if the creators were to give Yashiki a completely different love interest, their relationship, these two tired men, for me makes for one of the best things to enjoy about Spirit Hunter.
