Wip Wednesday | A.R.C.A.N.E.3
(snippet from upcoming chapter 4)
─── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ──
Eddie woke up to water being thrown on his face. He gasped for air and spat out what had gone inside his mouth, then opened his eyes, moving frantically, but he couldn’t see. Blindfolded.
“Stay put, Voider,” ordered a man in a rough voice.
Eddie’s senses were heightened. He struggled against the restrains on his hands and feet, but the knots were tight. Camp of Voiders, he thought.
The man moved around the room, his steps resonating against the walls. This couldn’t be on the surface. He was underground. Somewhere underground.
Buck.
“Where is he?” Eddie asked, trying to force his wrists apart. “Where is he!”

Nayeon ~ Fluff Alphabet (Requested!)
A/N: Thank you for the request, hun! I've only got two weeks left of lecture plus exam week 🥲 please pray for me, y'all, the college life is rough
TW: None!
♡ Masterlist ♡
Tumblr media
Affection (How do they show their affection? What love language(s) do they use?)
Nayeon loves showering you with physical affection! She's clinging to your side while you work on a project or she has her arms wrapped around your waist while you make brunch on a Saturday that she has off. You can't forget about her kisses - she loves to kiss every inch of your skin from the moment you wake up to the moment you sleep.
Beauty (What do they admire about their S/O? What makes their S/O beautiful?)
Humor! She loves having someone around who can make her laugh. She also likes to tease and joke around with someone who will do the same back to her. She'll act offended at times, but the lovesick smile on her face tells you that she loves your humor and teasing.
Comfort (How would they help their S/O if they were having a rough day?)
I definitely think she'd take you out on a date or to a bar to get drinks if you were feeling up to it! A nice date and a few drinks will help shake off any bad feelings, plus you're spending the day with the girl that you love. If you want to stay in, she'll order some food from your favorite take-out place before joining you on the couch to binge watch TV shows.
Dreams (How do they picture their future with their S/O?)
Nayeon wants a future full of fun, great memories, and you, of course! She wants to pursue her career during the day and then hold you at night. ❤️ Life is an oyster to her, and she wants to get the most out of it with you by her side to cheer her on.
Equal (Do they tend to be more dominant or passive in the relationship?)
She's definitely the dominant one in this relationship. She's the type to pull you into a kiss by your belt loop and then act confused when you get all flustered. If you want to be the dominant one, she'll tease and indulge you for a moment before regaining control.
Fight (Would they easily forgive their S/O after a fight? How would a typical fight go?)
You'll probably get the silent treatment from her for a day before she feels bad and asks to talk everything out. You two argue healthily without getting into any screaming matches, but sometimes feelings get hurt and you need a moment away from each other. You'll talk things out afterwards, and you'll both apologize before doing something together to strengthen your bond.
Gratitude (How grateful are they for everything that their S/O does for them?)
Nayeon will say it teasingly, but she loves you with all of her heart and she's so thankful for everything you do. You take care of her chores when she's too tired from rehearsals or schedules, and she can't thank you enough for all that you do.
Honesty (Do they tend to keep secrets from their S/O, or do they share everything?)
She's super honest with you all of the time. Nayeon would expect the same from you, but you don't have to reveal all of yourself immediately. Although she doesn't mind learning all about you in one go, she likes the little bits and pieces about you that you mention every now and again.
Inspiration (Did their S/O change them, or was it the other way around?)
Nayeon definitely changed you. If you weren't an extrovert before you met her, you are now. She loves to go out for dates, drinks, etc. and introduce you to every important person in her life, and you have to be willing to do all of that if you're going to date Nayeon.
Jealousy  (Do they get jealous easily? How do they deal with it?)
She gets jealous easily, but she won't say anything unless you're physically uncomfortable with the situation. If it does escalate that far, she'll quickly excuse the two of you before dragging you away. Otherwise, she'll sit in silence and wait for you to return and spoil her with the affection that she missed.
Kiss (How often do they kiss you? Where do they like to kiss you?)
Whenever she can kiss you, and wherever she can. Her favorite places are your cheek and your lips. You've definitely had to check that you don't have lipstick covering your face before leaving the house on more than one occasion.
Lazy Day (How do they like to spend days off with their S/O?)
If you're both feeling lazy and don't want to go out, you'll make something at home and have a nice day in the comfort of your home and in your pajamas. If you both want to go out, she'll take you to a concert or some live music event that you can relax at.
Marriage (Do they want to get married? How often do they think about marrying their S/O?)
Nayeon openly talks and jokes about marriage. She definitely sees it as a possibility, especially when you're deeper in your relationship. She may tease you about proposing, but flipping the question on her causes her to turn red because she's planned your engagement and wedding in her brain many times.
Nicknames (What do they call their S/O?)
Baby, babe
Simple, cute, and modern. If she's in a teasing mood, she'll drag out the last syllable until you respond to her.
On Cloud Nine (What are they like when they are in love? Is it extremely obvious to others?)
Nayeon does not stop talking about you, so it's pretty obvious that she's in a relationship with you. Her heart eyes are very evident, and it doesn't matter if she's just talking about you or if you're in the room with her. She takes pride in your relationship because she loves being your partner.
PDA (Are they very upfront with their relationship, or do they prefer to keep things quiet?)
Very, very upfront. Nayeon isn't extreme by any means, but she's not afraid to kiss you on the cheek or hug your side in public. You're dating, so why not show it off?
Quirk (Some random personality trait that makes them an excellent partner.)
Her playfulness brings a fun element to your relationship. Not taking anything too seriously lets you unwind after a long day, and she's able to make you feel better with a simple joke or her laughter. If you're just as playful as she is, then you're in for a fun and exciting relationship since you'll always be joking with one another.
Romance (Are they a born romantic ready to woo their S/O at any moment, or do they struggle to spark romantic moments with their S/O?)
I'd say she's more of a modern romantic than a traditional romantic. She finds the poetic letters and dozens of roses a bit outdated, but she'll lovingly tease you if that's how you show your love. Her romantic side comes out when she develops an interest in your hobbies, or when she takes you out to your favorite place to eat. It's all in the subtle things.
Support (How do they help support their S/O to reach their goals?)
You might have the biggest hype woman and promoter who is not ashamed to scream it from the mountain tops. She'll brag about your accomplishments just like she would brag about her accomplishments. Seeing you succeed makes her a proud girlfriend.
Thrill (Do they like trying out new things to spice up their relationship, or do they prefer to stick to a routine?)
Nayeon loves to try new things! She's always down to try new hobbies, date spots, or foods with you. She might tease you for your reaction to these new things, but she does it lovingly.
Understanding (How well do they know their partner?)
She picks up on the subtle things about you that other people might not notice, like your usual coffee order. She obviously knows all the important stuff, but the smaller details make her a fantastic girlfriend. It's great to come home to your favorite meal or snack on the table with a short, sweet note from her.
Value (How important is the relationship to the person versus other relationships and things in their life?)
She has a healthy work-life balance, so you're important to her just as much as the other important people or things that take up your time. She doesn't want to give up everything in her life for your relationship, and she'd never ask you to do the same.
Wild Card (A random fluffy headcanon that you have about the relationship?)
Date nights are fun, especially when Nayeon plans them. She won't tell you where you're going until you get there. She doesn't like to do the sake date too many times, so she likes to do different dates like nature walks, bar hopping, or book shopping.
XOXO (Do they like to kiss, hug, and cuddle you? How often do they do so?)
Absolutely, all of the time. She gets shy if you show her the same amount of love back, but don't let that stop you. She's happy to receive affection as much as she is to give it.
Yearning (How will they cope when they’re missing their partner?)
Nayeon is texting you or video chatting if distance is keeping you apart. She keeps timezones in mind, and she'll text you at a more convenient time for you, even if it means sacrificing an hour or two of sleep. If you're just super busy, she'll take on some of your chores so you have time to relax after work
Zeal (Are they willing to go to great lengths for the relationship? If so, what kind?)
Nayeon would go as far as you would go for her. If you'd move the sun out of the sky for her, then you'd bet that she'd do the same for you.

✧. pairings ─ tate langdon x fem! reader
✧. genre ─ headcanons ⨾ fluff
✧. summary ─ it’s halloween, the one day of the year tate is able to go outside. he’s been planning this special date for you. in secret. for an entire month
✧. warnings ─ none, just fluff.
-—————————⋆。‧˚ʚɞ˚‧。⋆—————————-
october is tate’s month. that fact has already been established.
it’s the only month of the year that he insists on being the one to cross out the days on your calendar, counting down the days to halloween.
the concept of days doesn’t really matter to tate, since he’s stuck in the house for eternity. he only keeps track of hours and minutes, waiting for you to come home like a puppy.
so when you’re at school, he gets down to planning.
the date has to be perfect because you are his light and you deserve the absolute best.
he uses Google map on your computer to check out potential date plans, scrawling them down on a piece of paper:
e.g. coffee shops, record stores, an escape room, a haunted house, the halloween festival, etc.
all the while listening to the playlist you guys share— a combo of your favourites songs and his favourites.
when it’s nearly the time you come home, he wipes the search history; turns off the computer, and stuffs the paper in his jeans pocket.
then he sits on the foot of the stairs, patiently waiting for you to step through the front door, just like every other day.
he gives you a bear hug, mumbles “i missed you” into the crook of your shoulder. the two of you share a kiss.
{time skip to halloween!}
he buys your favorite drink from the coffee shop, and the two of you wander through the crowd of people at the halloween festival, holding hands the entire time.
the haunted house is purely for shits and giggles. you live in the murder house, for christ’s sake.
he had chosen that particular place because he wants to see you get spooked. that way, you’ll jump into his arms and he can protect you.
tate hides behind bushes or around corners to jump-scare a bunch of trick-or-treaters. (he’s so immature sometimes)
he raids the candy bowls that sits on people’s doorsteps.
“the note says: ‘take one’. you took like, five.”
“but y/n, it’s sour patch kids and snickers!! ooh just look at these skittles-”
“tate.”
“okay, hear me out: one for you, one for me, and addy, beau and rose, don’t forget your parents-”
the fact that he wore his cardigan with large pockets isn’t just pure coincidence. boy has a major sweet tooth, he needs extra space to store his loot.
you both end up leaving with stuffed pockets. which made you feel a bit guilty, but the adorable and smug smile tate gave you made it a bit better.
“see? stealing isn’t that bad~”
before you can argue, he unwraps a small hersey’s bar and stuffs it into your mouth to shut you up, laughing.
you sneak into the movie theater together, perfectly timed to see the final parts of the movie where the slasher brutally murders everyone. the candy you’ve stolen taken from earlier comes in handy.
tate has always been secretly fantasizing the two of you kissing/holding hands in a dark theater, like in those chick flicks you forced him watch together.
finally, he gets to fulfill that fantasy.
after the movie, everyone else leaves, while you two proceeds to make out during the rolling credits.
until the employee kicks you both out.
your sit next to each other at the beach, having deep, philosophical conversations while you listen to the sound of waves crashing against the shore.
which lead to cuddling, then a hot make-out session.
“tate?”
“yeah, y/n?”
“this is the best halloween i’ve ever had.”

Tumblr media
Your eyes fluttered open as bright morning lights glared through your curtains. There was something strange about this morning, but it was a good kind of strange. You felt a strange warmth, it wasn’t your blanket or heater, it was—Miguel?! Memories of last night resurfaced in your brain and you felt your cheek and ears flush, and Oh my god, Miguel is cuddling me right now, you thought to yourself as you looked down and saw his huge arms wrapped around you. He was holding your hands delicately, sharing his warmth with you. You could feel his soft breaths fanning your forehead, slow and tranquil, in and out. You fit perfectly against him, like the last puzzle piece of a Ravensburger jigsaw puzzle.
Despite your tangled legs, having Miguel this close was perfect. He began to stir in his sleep and soon woke up himself. He immediately pulled away from you frantically. “Sorry, I just, you were cold and I-“ he started. The familiar chill encapsulated your body the second Miguel let you go leaving you a bit disappointed. “It’s fine, I don’t mind at all," you reassured, placing a hand on his forearm.
"It was nice," you muttered looking away hoping he didn't hear you. Your sudden soft shyness sent butterflies to his chest. Your bedhead made your change in demeanor even cuter. Not to mention those reindeer onesies you were wearing. "What? Why are you looking at me like that?" you questioned feeling his laser glaze burning through your figure.
"No, it's nothing," he said as he dragged himself out of your bed.
You followed, and put some coffee on in the kitchen. Miguel freshened up and sat on the couch with his laptop in hand and glasses on his nose. Although the storm was still happening his job kept him busy. You heard him typing away and finished making him a hot black coffee. Making him coffee as he worked reminded you of being in the shop late at night.
Miguel honed in on his work, you, taking your time cleaning up the shop before closing so that Miguel could have more time to work. The little peeks you took at him while he worked. As you watched him you learned many things about him. You noticed that he chews on his pens when he seems stuck or stressed. He runs his hand through his hair when he is tired, and he enjoys the Frank Sinatra songs that you play. He thought you didn't hear him singing Girl From Ipanema in the shower. His voice was amazing; it was deep, rich, and flowed like honey.
Miguel could smell the coffee you were brewing for him from the couch. The scent was strong, he could tell you were using different beans than you use in the shop. Miguel couldn't deny that he felt the same deja vu. He felt like he was back in your shop doing his "work". Half of the time he was sitting there on his laptop, he was typing gibberish into the Google search bar. When he wasn't doing work, he was looking at you. Watching, memorizing, because every movement you made beguiled him.
He took notice of the subtle sway of your hips to the music, the gentle tilt of your head matching the slow melodies. Your movements seemed to encapsulate a suppressed passion and excitement. Unbeknownst to you, Miguel watched as you slipped into the kitchen, believing you were unobserved, dancing exuberantly to the music just because you could.
Miguel never overlooked those instances when you sang along or hummed certain parts of the songs; each detail etched into his awareness.
So as you stood before him waiting for some kind of reaction to the coffee that you had made, he was fully aware of your anxiousness. He took a slow sip, swallowed, and then looked up at you. You fiddled with your fingers awaiting his reaction. But nothing. He just sat there and drank, showing absolutely no reaction. "So, what do you think?" you squeaked trying to get anything out of him. You watched him duck his head down suppressing laughter.
"You stinker! You're making fun of me!" you laughed, placing your hands on your hips.
"Sorry I just can't help myself, your reactions are so cute," he chuckled putting his reading glasses at the top of his head.
"Seriously though, do you like your coffee?" you asked softly.
"No, I love it, Baby," this might be the best coffee I have ever had," he revealed.
"Oh, wait till you discover cream and sugar," you quipped sarcastically. To which he gave you a playful eye roll.
The day went by very quickly. The shop was closed due to the blizzard so you worked on the holiday decorations for the store. With Miguel upstairs on business Zoom calls. His coworkers saw the festivity and warmness of your home in the background and immediately drilled him with questions. Asking if he was at his girlfriend's house, and revealing that Miguel has no love life.
You walked back up to your apartment after all of the work was done in the shop. You came back to Miguel surprisingly watching a Christmas movie. "Hey wanna come join?" he asked motioning for you to come over.
"What a pleasant surprise, you? Watching holiday films? Hell has officially frozen over," you teased as you plopped down next to him.
"Oh, stop it," he rebutted as wrapped an arm around you pulling you into his side. To say you were taken aback by this sudden gesture was an understatement. You looked up at him with a puzzled face hoping your flustered expression wasn't too visible. He looked down at you with a small smirk. You felt a million jingle bells go off in your stomach at that very moment.
You snuggled against him enjoying the film he put on, and the warmth he radiated. Without realizing it, you had both fallen asleep on the couch together. You were both softly snoring, your head resting on his chest. Your arms wrapped around him like he was a giant teddy bear. Amid your rest, both of your phones began to buzz uncontrollably. Miguel woke up and shook you awake. "The storms are over," he said softly. You groaned, too comfortable to get up.
"C'mon Baby, I have to get up," he chuckled.
The two of you finally got up. Miguel got his things together and you both headed down into the shop. You were going to see him out of the shop when you forgot that you prepared a special something for him while he was working.
As he began to walk out the door, you heard the bells jangle and called out to him, "Wait!"
You caught up with him outside and you handed him a brown paper bag that had gingerbread man cookies decorated to look like him. "I made these for you," you huffed shivering a bit as the frigid air hit your face.
"Thank you, Baby, now get inside, and get warm, you're shivering," he said, ushering you to get your freezing butt in your warm shop.
You waved goodbye to Miguel and watched him get into his car before opening up the shop. The day went by well. Loads of customers came in excited to try out the new holiday menu you made. The grumpy(Miguel-themed) gingerbread man cookies were a hit.
As the customers all left and the clock hit 9:30 pm you wondered where Miguel was. He was usually there by this time. But there was no sign of him at all. It was unusual but you decided to shake it off and lock up since he obviously wasn't coming that night.
You were more disappointed than you would've imagined you'd be. I guess I've gotten too used to his company, it's like routine now, you thought to yourself. You slept that night hoping to see Miguel the next morning.
Next Pt.6...

Noun. "Bare Minimum" The smallest possible quantity or the least fulfilling, but still adequate, condition that is required, acceptable, or suitable for some purpose.
Tumblr media
“I can't be with someone who's not willing to compromise Y/n.” It had been Bradley Bradshaw's way of telling you that he hated your dedication to your own career. You hadn't even bothered to lift your head from your textbook, still working away at writing out your latest set of study cards. It infuriated him to no end. “Are you even listening?”
“I mean what exactly is there to listen to Bradley?” You sighed, finally lifting your head up to reveal your broken, teary eyes. “You don't wanna be with someone who wants to be just as successful as you.”
“That's not what I meant and you know it.” Bradley hissed back at you as he leaned in further across the table you were sitting at in your apartment. Your textbooks, scrap paper, and laptop in the middle of the pair of yours as always. Your dining table had been your designated study zone for as long as you'd been studying to take the bar exam. “All I'm trying to say is spending all your spare time studying isn't doing us any favours.”
“Bradley.” You felt horrible, like you were trying to breathe in quicksand. “I love you, with all my heart baby I really do, but if you can't support me while I'm doing this after I supported you through the academy and your flight training and all the deployments under the sun then what the hell are we even still doing talking about this?” it felt like your entire world was shattering into a million pieces around you.
You'd been with Bradley Bradshaw since junior year of highschool. He was the very definition of the love of your life. But ever since you started your law degree, he couldn't have been less supportive if he tried. You weren't sure if he was doing it unintentionally or if he really just didn't want to see you thrive in an industry that wasn't hospitality.
“I guess I don't know either.” Bradley replied coldly, he thought he caught your bluff but as it turns out you were as serious as ever. You didn't want to be with someone who wasn't going to be by your side every step of the way. “Ill uh–I'll see myself out then.”
“Yeah, fine.” Was all you could muster up the courage to say. Watching as your bottom lip quivered and your heart ached as Bradley left your apartment, shutting the door on you and your heart. “Fuck–” It was a sob laced with anguish that escaped as you let your forehead fall to the table, crying into the sleeves of the jumper of bradleys you wore that smelt like him.
You remembered that night well when you heard his name again five years later from the woman who sat across from you in your office. Mrs bradshaw, well–soon to be Miss Ericson again. She’d hired you to be her divorce attorney. The minute you had seen his name on top of the paperwork and heard his name you couldn't help but to stifle a laugh.
“Is there something wrong?”
“No, no, nothings wrong–” You could have mentioned that there was a slight conflict of interest, you could have mentioned that Bradley had been the only man you ever loved and still did love. But you didn't, because you had been given a chance to get even. Get revenge. “I'll make sure you walk away with everything Mrs Bradshaw.” You smiled, reaching out to grab her hand. “Everything and then some.”
You were going to ruin his life.

Bunny - K.DY
Tumblr media
Pairing: Kim Doyoung x fem!reader
Word count: 3125 words
AU/Genre: college!AU, roommate!AU, smut
Warnings: unneccessary astrology anecdotes, mentioned masturbation (f), porn, pet names (pretty girl, bunny), fingering, choking (f receiving), vibrator, yeah it's pretty vanilla for a yutasbellybuttonpiercing fic
A/n: this is just 3k words of me thristing over Doyoung's chest. Honestly, try to count how many times I mentioned it...
It's the seventh stressful week in a row and all you need is some release for the tension in your shoulders, your brain and your lower regions. Exams had been rough on you, seemingly thousands of assignments having such an iron grip on your every move that you couldn't even squeeze in a little wank – a little masturbation session – without missing at least one appointment or assignment, or skipping yet another meal.
You're horny, like, really horny, and it's not just your lack of orgasm that's giving you a hard time, it's first and foremost your new roommate. Kim Doyoung. There's no reason for him to be this good looking, literally no reason at all. His extraordinarily alluring exterior costs you much more than your last nerve. Too often, he steps through your shared living room (read: a small couch in the entrance area of your home), thinking that wearing only one (1) piece of clothing around the house is acceptable, making you completely lose your focus of the task at hand. Be it doing the dishes, checking your phone for mail, or worse, writing your thesis, you instead ogle his greatly defined pecs. Doyoung looks like the visual combination of an angel, a hot businessman and a young dilf. And his voice... you get the drift.
Currently, you're seated at your desk, fingers smashing into your mouse buttons and keyboard with such force that you're confused as to why the keys of the keyboard are not flying back at you and hitting you in the head because you punched them off the smooth plastic surface. With shaky hands, you drag the cursor over the screen and click 'upload' to turn in your last paper at the last possible second. A green slogan congratulates you that you've made it just in time.
With the most drawn out, dramatic sigh you get up, take about two steps back and fall down on your bed (reason for that are the immensely high rental prices in the area, forcing you to live in this cramped space that you call bedroom slash bureau slash dining room).
You're so exhausted that all u want is to sleep forever. It's like your brain immediately wipes out all of the information you've absorbed for your countless essays immediately, only to leave space for absolute nothingness that makes you relax into the mattress and fall into dream land.
A knock on your door wakes you about 5 minutes later.
You answer with a sleepy "huh?" and, of course, Doyoung's the one to open the door.
"I'll be out, might get late, don't wait for me with dinner, okay?"
As always, he looks stunning with his wide eyes that blink at you twice (probably just a little concerned with how you're lying halfway slipped off the bed), and he's so pretty and beautiful that you just want to paint him, but you don't because that'd be weird. And he has to leave, so you just throw him a weak thumbs up and he smiles before closing the door.
You don't even have time to decipher where he's heading. If he's going to the gym again, working out those incredibly voluminous pecs, his toned stomach or his wide shoulders, or going out to get some drinks at a bar, the alcohol causing his eyes to become a little glossy, cheeks tinted in the most perfect shade of dusted pink, just like that one time you guys had a wine night (read: three bottles of very cheap wine and one bottle of medium priced wine Doyoung stole from his parents the last time he visited scattered over the floor in front of your couch as you slurped the bordeaux red liquid from tea cups because you ran out of regular ones) a few weeks ago?
The way his eyes had gotten all lidded, gaze fanning over your face as he licked his wine-stained lips, his chest lifting oh so gently with every breath he dragged in- he had looked fucked out, honestly, and this made you wonder how absolutely gorgeous he would look underneath you with his thick cock deep inside you.
Great, now you're horny. Again. Actually, scratch that, you're constantly horny. At this point it's so bad that you speculate it might just be in your genes or something. Or maybe your eighth house is somehow connected with your ascendant, maybe you're a scorpio mars...
It's then when you suddenly realize: you are, in fact, alone. And you have free time, so there is literally nothing that could disturb you right now.
You get your iPad and open a porn site of your preference, briefly cringing at the suggestions displayed before typing something into the search bar that you would be absolutely terrified of someone finding out, then just get into it. You watch a few videos, look around a bit until you find something that satisfies your porn hunger.
Without taking your eyes off the screen, you reach out to your bedside table. Opening the second drawer, you pull out your vibrator. You're surprised that it still works and hasn't unalived itself because it hasn't been used in such a long period of time. You turn it off again, putting it next to you before pulling off your pants and panties, crawling under the blanket and letting your fingers brush over your folds.
Holy hell, it's been a while, is the first thing you think, dipping your fingertips into the wetness pooling at your entrance. It's almost embarrassing how fast you got wet, but so be it, it's not like someone supervises the quickness of your arousal anyway.
Or is there? – because the next thing you hear is another knock on your door. You freeze, aggressively turning down the volume of the porn, before asking who the fuck is knocking on your door.
"It's me again, plans've been canceled. It's raining." Doyoung steps foot into your room, eyeing your position under the blanket, iPad in your lap whilst you just look at him with a shocked expression.
The only thing your mind can form right now is '????'.
"Oh great, what are we watching?" Doyoung invites himself into your room, stepping over to your still half-naked (!) figure under the blanket. You turn off your iPad, turning in around and pressing it against your chest. The least you can hope is that he can't hear your thumping heartbeat through your chest.
"Nothing. I've never watched a single thing in my life. Especially not now."
"You want me to believe that? Come on, show me. I'm bored, let's watch it together." Doyoung snorts, getting onto the bed with you, pushing you aside so he can sit properly.
"Really, Doyoung, honey, you don't want that..."
"Why? Is it a drama?"
"No."
"Romance?"
"Not quite..."
Doyoung looks at you, eyes narrowed because he still can't come up with a single thing you two couldn't watch together.
"Horror?" He tries one last time.
You shake your head slowly.
"So you just don't want to watch it with me?" He assumes, putting the puzzle pieces together, but just completely upside down, just plainly wrong.
"The thing I was watching just now, I wouldn't watch it with anyone."
"Not even your mom?"
"Especially not my mom!"
He furrows his brows. You can almost see the little gears turning inside his head as he tries to figure it out. Sighing, you decide to put this poor man out of his misery.
"I was watching porn, Doyoung."
He looks at you, eyebrows raised so far, if they went a little further, they'd melt in with his hairline. Then he blinks, once, twice, opening his mouth a few times, but then closing it again without saying something.
"P-porn?!" finally comes out.
"Yeah."
"Why?" He looks so concerned that you just want to pet his head.
"Doyoung," your hand comes up to massage and rub over your forehead as you let your head slump forwards, sighing. You can't believe you have to explain this, "why do people watch porn? Hm?"
Finally, Doyoung connects the dots, realizing he's overstepped multiple lines just now, shimmying away from you, "ahh, I'm sorry. I'll just-" he thinks for a second, "porn, though, for real?"
"What's wrong with porn?"
"N-nothing, I mean, but-" He seems to be at conflict with himself, "now that I know that you watch this- isn't it uncomfortable for you??"
You shake your head, then sigh deeply as his worried facial expression hasn't faded in the slightest, "I don't care that you know I'm watching it."
"If it helps, I watch it too!"
"Thank you, Doyoung." You give him a tight-lipped smile as you pad his shoulder, nodding softly with closed eyes. "Now, would you-"
A vague gesture in the direction of the door should give Doyoung an idea of what you're implying, though he doesn't budge. You sigh again. Many lines have been crossed today, so why not make things clear.
"Doyoung, love, I'm stark naked underneath these sheets."
Doyoung's eyes flicker downwards, then back to your own, then he nods, "that's kinda hot."
Now it's your turn to blink at him, your usual self that never stops talking suddenly at a loss of words. Doyoung's gaze lays upon your hidden private parts a second time, this time much longer, assumingely fantasizing about what's underneath your cute floral-printed bedsheets. It makes you return the action, immediately locking eyes with something that looks suspiciously like a forming bulge –that or Doyoung's suddenly carrying palm-sized baseball-bats in his pants, and you highly doubt that.
Very little words are spoken until you find yourself caged in between Doyoung and your mattress, both of your shirts pulled off to have flown onto the ground somewhere, his breath fanning millimeters away from your lips as you don't dare to break eye contact. Your blanket is bunched up against the wall next to you, still hiding your vibrator from Doyoung's fiery eyes, and his fingers are dancing around your naked thighs.
You breath comes out shakily as Doyoung begins touching you, fingers parting your folds to run in between them, feeling you up and down and left and right, teasing you throughoutly before he pushes one of his digits inside. Your hands find hold on his biceps as your lids flutter shut, back arching right into his touch, a quiet sound of pleasure leaving your mouth.
Above you, you can practically feel Doyoung smile as he drags his long finger along your walls, stroking you gently before adding another, stretching you out slowly for what's to come. Your head wants to wrap around what's happening right now, but you're honestly too exhausted, too horny, and too touch deprived to voice any concerns or exorbitant excitement in your head, so you just enjoy it while it lasts.
"Wan' your cock, please", you hear yourself gasp as Doyoung angles a thrust of his fingers into your sweet spot, and keeps them there, massaging into the bundle of nerves.
"Yeah, does my little bunny want to get fucked?" Doyoung grins as you open your eyes to look at him and nod, and you're honestly surprised how well you're responding to the pet name.
Doyoung stretches you a little more before pulling his fingers out and his pants off. A single glance downwards and you have to gulp. Forget palm-sized. He begins stroking himself a little and you use the distraction to pull a condom from your bedside table, quickly opening the package with your teeth before handing it to him.
He rolls it down his thick length, your mouth starts salivating at the image of trying to fit your mouth around it when you suddenly feel him prodding against your hole, gently brushing his tip over your folds and clit, much like he's done before with his fingers.
Just before you can voice your impatience, he inches inside, slowly dragging his tip along your walls to fill you completely. A cry of pleasure that you'd be embarrassed about in any other situation slips from your mouth at the delicious stretch, a groan of Doyoung's follows suit as soon as he's bottomed out inside of you.
To your request, he begins moving, drawing his hips back slowly before pushing in with a snap, seemingly hitting every sweet spot of your body at once. You force your eyes to open again – though you don't even remember closing them – and take in Doyoung above you.
The way his pecs flex is incredibly arousing to you, and you reach out to stroke your palms over them, really feeling the way the muscle bulges under his soft, pale skin, then further down his stomach, your fingers sliding over the grooves of his abs, then to his sides to hold onto his small waist.
Doyoung hums out, approving of your actions, and you move your hands to his back, then up to his wide shoulders. There's just something about the way you've been thirsting about this man's body for, what, months now, and now you're finally having him, you can't miss out on the full experience of finally being able to touch his delicate form.
The speed and force of Doyoung's thrusts intensifies with every stroke, you feel so perfectly full with him inside of you. "I've wanted you for so long, Doie," you admit, head hazy with the way he fucks into you, a hand on your waist to hold you against him, "feels so good."
"You look so fucking pretty like this, bunny, even better than I imagined," Doyoung hisses, eyes rolling back as you clench around him, an orgasm creeping up on you way faster than you expected.
Your eyes fall onto where Doyoung holds onto your hips with his hands, the way his thumbs poke into the soft flesh of your midsection, his veins popping out due to the harsh grip he has on your body. All the times where you've appreciated his large hands coming back clashing down at your already weakened form, mind hazy as you speak your next words.
"Choke me, please," you whimper, hips bucking further into his motions.
"Ah, that's right, you like my hands so much. I've seen you stare at them so often, I can't even think of all the things you must've imagined them doing to you," Doyoung says, a chuckle in his voice that you don't even notice. Your eyes follow his right hand as it detaches itself from your waist to come up to your neck. Impatiently, you whine, his fingers softly graze over your skin before they wrap around your neck, not putting on any pressure yet.
You whimper, teeth catching your lower lip as you look into his eyes, a pleading look on your face, and he finally has mercy on you. A grin spreads over his handsome features as he presses down on your pulse point, slowly but surely pushing you into the mattress by your neck with his whole weight.
"Shit-", you bring out, eyelids fluttering as you struggle to keep them opened, walls clenching around Doyoung's length as he pushes into you harder and faster than before. The way your breath hitches in your throat seems to have an effect on him too.
"Don't you want me to use your toy on you?" The question catches you off guard, the lack of blood flowing onto your brain making you feel all tight and hot, not able to comprehend the situation. Doyoung chuckles again, "you don't think I didn't notice, right?"
As a response, you can only whine out brokenly, nodding your head as much as you can. Not soon after, you feel the pleasant vibrating sensation against your clit, making you press your hips even further against Doyoung and the toy. Doyoung seems to love your reaction, grinning above you almost crazily as his tongue flicks over his lower lip, "that's right, bunny, keep your eyes open. Look at me."
You do your best to comply to his request, the lack of oxygen catching up on you as you feel your ears ring gently and pleasantly, though all you can concentrate on is the way you seems to get tighter around Doyoung's cock, almost being able to taste your release on the tip of your tongue, and Doyoung's own crazy, lust-filled eyes.
"You're clenching so much around me, bunny," Doyoung groans above you, "I want you to cum for me, bunny."
And as he leans down, eyes not leaving yours, and presses his lips onto yours, it's over for you. All the stress and built-up from the past weeks crashing down on you within milliseconds, drowning you in the delicious depth of a long-awaited orgasm. Doyoung loosens his grip on your throat just in time, the blood rushing into your brain intensifying the feeling.
"Yeah, that's it," Doyoung moans, hips stuttering as he fucks you through your intense high. You feel like you could pass out from the impact, and you're glad that Doyoung pulls out as soon as you've stopped clenching around him, quickly discarding of the condom to stroke himself to finish on your stomach with a high-pitched whine.
"Holy shit," you confirm as soon as you're breathing's calmed down, turning your head to look at your roommate who's plopped down on the mattress next to you, equally as exhausted as you. He laughs at your expression, and a smile takes over you as well.
"Tissue?"
"Do you need to blow your nose?"
"No! I want to wipe my cum off you!"
"Oh," you grin, turning to hand him what he'd asked for, giving it to him so he can clean you up. The grinning doesn't stop even after he's done, and he turns on his side so you're facing each other.
"What," he asks, smiling himself. You take a few seconds to take in his tousled hair, blushed skin and lidded eyes, feeling giddy inside at the sight of his post-orgasm glow.
"I gotta be honest with you, Doyoung," you start, turning onto your back before sitting up, stretching your arms over your head, "that was the shit. I'm going to feel the need to do this again. Would you be okay with that?" You turn your head towards him and find him smiling at you, his perfect white teeth doing something to your heartbeat that you don't want to elaborate on right now.
"Yes," he grins before pulling you onto his lap, bringing your face to hover just mere centimeters above his own, "how about right now? Hobble on my cock, bunny."
You scoff, but are not able to hold back a grin, "I'm sorry, Doie, that's only hot when you're inside me."

There's something weirdly satisfying about the feeling of your sweated out forehead peeling off of your desk. It's sticky and kind of hot, probably due to the piles of blankets you shrugged over your shoulders in a fit hours earlier.
It was a promise you made to your mother that brought you here, the brilliant plan to study at any moment of downtime and then take the exam when you got home from helping her at her work. It seemed sort of.. ingenious at the time..? Now, everything's kind of flipped belly up as you drag your finger in panicked circles across your trackpad. You did submit it, right? Wiping at one of your eyes in horror as you wake your laptop up, there's this white box with black text that stands front and center on the screen before you.
'Assignment is no longer available. Click 'close' to return to classroom homepage.'
"What?" You whisper to yourself, eyes fluttering to the bottom right of your screen. The time reads 1:49 AM. Your hand falls to your desk with a thump, and the blankets on your back slide off pathetically.
This type of shock doesn't send you into a full blown panic, not yet. Tapping the 'close' button, you exhale and watch as the page reloads. Searching for the 'Midterm Exam' assignment ends up being a useless, piteous effort. It's now listed under the locked 'Past Assignments' bar.
"No. I turned it in." You lean back in your chair, shaking hair back from your face as you give yourself another moment to think. "Yeah." It's kind of a lie, you think. Maybe just speak it into existence. Falling asleep in the middle of an online test is simply not possible. Not for you at least. Not one that's worth 50% of your grade. Not one that you were sure you already finished last night after you showered.
*
"It wasn't submitted, I'm not sure how else to tell you this."
Sometimes, things just fall apart.
"I swear I submitted it. I did it when I got home last night."
Your hybrid schedule due to the pandemic has you at a socially distanced desk for 4 hours every Tuesday and Thursday, and the masks make it hard to see if your teacher has an expression of actual sympathy or just really needs to shit. Eyes alone are not enough to piece it together, you realize. He slips this red piece of paper onto the surface of your desk before moving on to the student behind you.
It's asking for a guardian's signature of knowledge that you failed to turn in your midterm.
Across the room leaned up against the far wall, Na Jaemin holds his red card too. He flicks it loudly, his eyes dashing over the brim of his white sanitary mask from left and right as students pass by.
'the desks are socially distanced but students are allowed to get up and walk around and talk to their friends lollll'
Incomes a text from Chenle from the front row, glittered with emojis of zany faces and tongues.
'stupid af' He texts again, his head swiveling to face you to see if you're checking your phone. He turns back.
'how tf did you get a red card???'
You sigh, brushing hair out of your face before texting back.
'i feel asleep before i clicked the submit button'
'bruh' Chenle replies after a short moment.
'i heard if you do a sport or like lead a club or something the principal will just like let u graduate anyway'
He texts again, tacking on an emoji of a cat smirking.
‘i’ll be fine it’s just gonna suck to get my mom to sign it but she will understand… i got the whole rest of the semester Dw dw’
Your eyes go a little blurry with sleep, sneaking a glance at Jaemin against the wall as you yawn. He's typing something rather ferociously on his phone keyboard. His hair is dyed a chestnut brown, his roots grown out an inch in black, swept forward falling over his eyes.
*
You have been on the same bus as Jaemin since your 10th year at high school, transferring from an online school experience suddenly after a move. Growing up with close to no one you could consider a friend, Jaemin was the first person who ever caught your eye enough to call it interest. He was peak ‘public school’. He seemed friendly, charming, athletic, outgoing— he was the stop right after yours and was always running after the bus. Waving his arms as he chased it down until someone in the back would call up to the driver to tell him he missed someone. It felt like a scene from a movie, like there was no way that he was not the love interest.
Never did he ever forget to shoot the bus driver this breathless smile as he took the stairs two at a time. So hopped up on adrenaline and determination it made your head spin. In the Summer, the humid mornings with the sun already risen in the sky, dribbles of pearlescent sweat beads would slither down his temples like cobras, and in the Winter, the sky would be dark and ominous and Jaemin would board with a cherry red nose, only visible by the bus' interior lights. Every morning you watched just for that same smile, and every morning each one was more charming than the last. You watched again and again, just to dart your eyes away as soon as he finished giving his thanks to the driver.
Everything changed, whether it was the changing of the seasons or the changing of semesters, everything changed except Na Jaemin's stupidly charming smile. Your pupils would fall to your bag in your lap to twiddle your thumbs and deal with these childish feelings that boil up and bubble over like a science experiment gone wrong.
He was so super popular because of his endless prettiness and confidence. One time he came to school in a crop top and got dress-coded. He was even seen arguing with staff in the middle of the hallway holding the wrist of another student, bickering endlessly until the staff argued back with words just a little too big for him, words that left Jaemin just a little too quiet, and then he would just smile— laugh at it. The girl with him who had tears in her eyes over their failed attempt at a protest patted at his back for them to leave. He moved on, but never gave up. He would try again in a month. He was unstoppable. He’d lose with a smile.
That's probably one of the most disappointing things about the situation of the world right now. It may sound selfish and of such the tiniest amount of importance, but the worst part of the masks and the social distancing was easily missing out on Jaemin's smile each day. No matter if he was pissed off, shocked, confused, disappointed, he would smile that beautiful smile that would make you feel like projectile vomiting glitter.
*
Somehow everything he did was interesting. Attention-worthy. Your head lifts up from its downward position, relocating to face where you last saw Jaemin, but he's missing.
There's suddenly 3 messages from Chenle.
'after school today, let's go get snacks.’
'oh wait does the red card mean detention?'
'earth to my astronaut?? helloooo'
You sigh, running your fingers along the edge of the thick paper thoughtlessly. "Ouch!" Comes shooting from your mouth, your body jolting in your seat. Your blood oozes in a thick stream from the fresh cut on your finger, instinctually, you draw it to your mouth. The rough papery material of your mask presses to your lips, and shaking your head out of the clouds helps you realize the last minute you lost to your daydreams. There's a stifled laugh from the side of the classroom, and for a moment you split to smile back at them with your usual "Yeah, I'm kind of an idiot sometimes. It's okay!" reassuring aura, but this time it's not a friendly face among your acquaintances of peers, but Huang Renjun and Jung Sungchan.
There's something so unnerving about being laughed at by students who you just have the most powerful sense of superiority complexes from. It's not like they've ever been outright mean, but with students so judicious, sometimes they don't have to be mean to feel mean. Like they must just already have everything so carefully set up for them that they have not a single care in the world. Like they're above high school and probably understand how investing in stocks works (Cool people don’t understand stocks!) and have their life planned out til 40.
The worst part is that Na Jaemin is standing there next to them. His eyes fall flat of emotion, his face is angled down at his phone, but his eyes, heavy-lidded, are staring at you. Your hand slides across your face, arm covering your mask and its fresh blood splotch, turning your head to face the window.
*
Sometimes you wonder how Jaemin can deal with so much attention. With eyes that seem to always be on him. Of course your eyes were a part of them too… something deep inside hoped he could tell you thought of him differently. It wasn’t just that one day with the crop-top, before that he would get dress-coded everyday for his shoes. He would wear Converse, black on black instead of the dress shoes all students were meant to wear. He used to be given notes to bring home every single day. It took a month or two for them to just give up on him changing for them. Some people saw it as him being stubborn, or said it had to do with how much money his parents made, but you thought it was a small type of heroism.
Detention is packed, seriously packed to the brim, students overflowing the desks and crammed into all corners of the classroom. It's definitely not following coronavirus regulations, but at this point you're less than surprised at your country's 'safety in the education system' plan. More than anything in this moment, you'd pay to get a glance at Jaemin. Wherever he may be smushed, you just knew he must've looked amazing. It felt like an insatiable addiction to just take glances at him throughout the day, like, A Little Fix Here! and A Little Fix There! With a fresh mask on, you felt like you could take on the world, like, sure, you made a fool of yourself earlier– but he probably doesn't know who you are, so it doesn't even matter!
Your phone buzzes from deep inside your bag, and you begin searching for it instinctively before the instructor at the front of the room makes some lame call-out for you to stop. A mere "Oh, shit. Yeah." slips off your tongue before you lean back up to your desk, but your head hits the underside of the hard surface. The quiet class, filled to the brim with students, all turn and stare. Your hands fly to grip at the desk you just hit your head on. Today isn't one for the books, obviously.
"You're alright." Whispers from the windowsill, and your brain shuts down.
It's Jaemin.
His hand is atop your head, petting carefully.
You don't even know how it got there, or when all of this just decided to take place, but today is now absolutely the best day ever. Totally one for the books!
"Thank you." You whisper back. It's kind of coy and cute, and you don't mean for it to come out that way, but your nerves have encumbered you from saying anything even slightly self-assured.
"Take care of yourself." He whispers again, this time, it matches your tone. Bashful. "You hurt yourself a lot nowadays."
"Oh." Comes tumbling from your lips before you can catch it, scrambling for words to act as a proper response to what feels like flirting. Is it flirting or just genuine kindness? So he saw you earlier, is this him bullying you? Why was it so sexy though? Is it Na Jaemin or is it Eros? Aren't they sort of the same thing at this point?
His hand falters from your head, and your own darts up to smooth down any misplaced strands of hair. Jaemin swings his legs back up onto the vent before him, leaning his back against a beam between two large windows. The room is quiet besides some whispering here and there, but before Jaemin can help it, he returns to face your desk again. His legs fall over the edge of the sill again, slouched comfortably. Thighs spread like syrup over hot pancakes, his hands running down his slacks until they pause at his knees, smoothing wrinkles as he goes. He's leaned much further forward now, and his breath is calm. Warm and subtle, he blinks through dark eyelashes and asks
"Why are you so nervous?"
Probably the worst thing to ask someone who is nervous. He continues, "Is this your first time in detention?"
You exhale deeply, there's not even an effort in trying to conceal it. It's like a boulder has just been heaved off of your chest. He isn’t flirting, he’s just being nice. "I should've guessed. You have big eyes that look to explore, but you're keeping to yourself."
Interesting. Almost poetic.
"Would you rather me talk to you?" You ask, suddenly feeling a chill up your neck. When were your eyes ever considered big?
"No." He answers, soft and serious before his eyes squint in laughter.
Short puffs of contentedness leave your nose in muffled exhales. Everything feels so right at this moment. "Same here."
"Too bad." He whispers, this time, the hair that has feathered over your ear brushes against your cheek when his breath reaches you. It smells like coconut and spearmint, he chews gum behind his mask, which is obviously outlawed. You know he’s a rule breaker, but now he’s breaking rules around you… it’s sexier. He's flattening himself out even more now, practically folding to reach his arms to cross over themselves on your desk, head falling atop of them. "Have we met before?" He blinks up at you, kittenish and cute.
Internally, you are scolding your heart like a dog that jumps too much. Down boy! Calm yourself! But the ba-boom, ba-boom grows stronger, louder, and Jaemin is just getting closer, and closer. "I don't remember. I don't think."
"You don't think?" Jaemin repeats, his beaming smile lights up his face, although he's got a mask on to cover the best part, it reaches his eyes easily. Somehow it comes with great beauty and delivers great anxiety. "We're on the same bus. You don't recognize me?"
"Oh!" You beam back with overzealous surprise, you big fat fibber. "You're on bus 127 too?" You nod, his Converse with the tears in the canvas nudging against your shoes.
"Yeah. I thought we made eye contact a few times. I guess my face is more forgettable than I thought. Darn." At this point, his fingers are tracing circles around scribbles on the desk. It's so painfully obvious you've been caught and he thinks it's hilarious to see you suffer so immensely. He knows you've been watching him all this time, it's humiliating.
Something inside, lost in the depths of repressed feelings, clicks in that moment. Like, is this it? Are you just another privileged stupid asshole that has fun messing with people who fall for your amazing face? "Dumbass." You gasp, hand flying up to your masked face, eyebrows darting up on your forehead. "Sorry. I didn't mean to say that."
"Dumbass." Jaemin repeats with a scoff and a laugh. "I'm not a dumbass! You're the dumbass. I'm not blind, you look at me all the time!" He's whisper-shouting and some people are starting to glance over in your general direction. "Why would you possibly stare at a person so much? Because you have a crush."
"I do not have a crush, Jaemin. You wish."
"So you do know me?" He leans back up against the window sill again, his right shoulder resting on the support beam.
The teacher up front smacked the yardstick on the chalkboard twice, dismissing students in a matter of seconds. Jaemin is quick, his foot slamming a strap of your backpack on the floor. You look up, one hand around the free backpack strap, the other pressing down on your desk. You glare at him for a second. "Do you know my name?"
"Y/N."
There's this slow motion moment of silence where you realize, "Wait, you know me?"
"Since the first day back to school. Where you sat in my seat on the bus with your hair all sweated to your forehead and your lunchbox in the aisle." You stare up at him, maybe two or three inches below. Why is blinking suddenly impossible? "You had the baseball cap you used to wear, the red one." He motions a hand to the left side of your forehead, mimicking the brim of the cap. The classroom is empty, your knuckles whitening at the tautness of the pull on your backpack. "Let go for a minute." He asks, and it feels very genuine, so you do.
"I have to go home and study, like now. If I fail this class I'm done for." You push in your desk chair and look back up at Jaemin. "I would really appreciate my bag now." You lay your hands out flat, palm up. Somehow there's tears swelling in your eyes, and if you cry right now, that'll be super embarrassing. So you close your eyes to hold them back.
It's quiet for a second until two footsteps place Jaemin behind you. His hand envelopes a shoulder as he drags a strap over each one. It's scary how careful he is.
"There." He whispers, it's very quiet. "I'm sorry." He says, so quiet it's like he wants to not be heard.
"Sorry." You return, opening your eyes again. The window shines in the brightest sunshine you've seen for a while, you blink a few times and wipe away wetness before turning around. He stands lanky and still, head hanging mysteriously low in shame. "Don't feel bad, sorry I didn't react like how you're used to."
"I'm not used to any response at all, that was my first… statement."
"Confession?" You correct, and watch as his eyes trail back and forth between the tiles on the floor. His hands fiddle at his sides, fingers touching each other all over. You take quick steps and wrap your arms wide around him, feeling the back of his neck in one slide of your palm, his hands reaching back out just a second too late. "Bye." You mumble, prancing itty bitty steps out of the classroom before full-on sprinting down the hall.

The bus ride is quiet, some gentle stirring every once in a while from the few seats behind you, but your heartbeat is all that you can focus on. The ride is suddenly so much longer than you're used to… every turn the bus makes in the direction of Jaemin's stop is a step closer to imminent doom.
Today is no different from the rest, Jaemin is caught waving the bus down with swinging arms and curved eyes, boarding with a bow before making his way down the aisle. It clicks quite quickly where he is planning to sit. Normally he gets on, takes a few wide steps, and plops himself in one of the first few seats. His eyes find yours almost instantaneously upon boarding, his palms smacking the corners of each seat as he passes them.
"No, no, no, no, no" you find slipping out from under your breath as he nears your seat until he's shoving you in the direction of the window with a giggle.
"Hey, buddy~" Jaemin sings out, smiling dangerously through his mask. His legs spread out wide and his black converse position themselves in opposite diagonals, creating an obtuse angle. Feels like you're back in Trigonometry. Your eyes zig-zag between the seat in front of you and the window out to your right. Ruffling the front of your hair a little, you adjust yourself to face him, just slightly. "There you are." He whispers, his eyebrows smoothing out after a quick bounce.
Your heart takes precaution.
"I was worried you might ignore me, actually."
You hum a little note. "I'm surprised you're not ignoring me. I thought you might've been embarrassed."
Jaemin contorts his face slightly, tilting his head to the side, leaning until it falls against the seat in front of you. "Embarrassed? Why? What happened? I'm sitting here because this is my seat. This is the first time we are speaking." He holds out his hand, offering it. “My name is Jaemin.” His other hand traces shapes into his right thigh, maybe it's a nervous habit.
"Oh?" You catch on quickly, "Nice to meet you, Jaemin." The bus slows into a full stop to pick up a few more students, they take wide-legged steps down the aisle. The boy in the seat next to you disconnects eye contact for the first time since he boarded.
Each small pothole in the pavement rattles the bus gently, but Jaemin turns the small tremors into earthquakes, making sure to knock knees and shoulders at every small jostle, side-eyeing your reaction at each touch. There used to be something so terrifying about thinking of talking to Na Jaemin, like he would be too cool, or just think you were boring… but it's so different now that it's been put into action. He's cheesy, and embarrassing when it comes to showing public affection. This bus-ride twice a week leads to many 'Scandalous Public Transport Assignations,' as Jaemin labeled them. Smiley, tossing winks and sometimes a Brownie Bite from his lunchbox. The 30 minute bus ride would feel like 2 minutes next to him.
*
“Today, you should come with me to basketball practice.” Jaemin is downing his half of the blueberry muffin you provided him with, speaking with full cheeks. “You can meet the other guys, and…” He brushes crumbs off of his lap. “I want them to meet you.”
“Wow, that’s forward.” You look over to Jaemin, who swallows the rest of his muffin with a loud gulp.
“Too forward? Aren’t we dating?”
“DATING?!” You yell out in shock, which causes multiple heads to turn and face your direction. You pass shy smiles and apologize softly to some people near you, sinking further into your seat. Brushing a strand of hair back with your pinky, you bite at your cheek, trying to think of the right words. Jaemin is sitting next to you, shoulders tense. “Okay, sorry. Sorry. I didn’t mean it like that.” Patting him uncomfortably on the shoulder seems to do the trick! That is, if the desired outcome was for Jaemin to appear extremely embarrassed. “I don’t remember ever… agreeing to that.” You smile, and Jaemin’s shoulders drop significantly.
“But we sit next to each other on the bus every single day.” He mimics a friendly wave, “And we wave to each other like this in the hallway!” Jaemin shuffles through his bag until he finds his milk carton. “And we give each other gifts.” His eyes blink rapidly, remembering something. “And you already hugged me.”
Your ears sting with hotness. “Okay, but those are things friends do too. We haven’t even been on a date, or ki...ssed.” Somehow it's hard to even say the word in front of him. Both sets of eyes fall to the floor of the bus. “I know we got close fast, but… If I’m going to date someone, even if it’s someone I’ve liked for a while… I still have standards.” Jaemin looks up and nods suddenly with determination. He brings his empty hand up from his side and offers his pinky.
“Promise me if I do those things, I can tell people I’m dating you.”
Wow. It’s kind of baffling. He’s uncontrollably cheesy and really bad at stuff like this. Maybe romcoms have set your expectations for high school boys a little bit too high.
“Okay. I pinky promise.”
“Stamp it.” Jaemin commands. “Sign it.”
“Copy it.”
“So dramatic…” You push his hand back into his lap and fold your fingers together.
Jaemin is smiling.

Two weeks later, Jaemin frantically texts you 13 times in less than 30 seconds.
‘hhey y/n’
‘this isvery important’
‘Respondpls’
‘My mom saidtaking my phoneaway’
‘Bc failing english and’
‘Help’
‘y/n my bus buddy’
‘PLSSS’
‘M also fail math n scienc’
‘I have an iddddea’
‘REPSOND MYABY’
‘LIFE OR DEATH’
‘CALL 119’
‘WHAT????’
‘JUST CALL ME…!!?’
And so the phone rings.
“Hi, my baby. Here’s the thing, I have this great idea. And it will work. Because my mom doesn’t know about you-”
(Why doesn’t his mom know about you? Your whole family already knows about Jaemin! This is embarrassing. I mean, you have only been talking for 3 weeks, and you did say you wanted to take things slow, so why is Jaemin the one who’s treating this like one big-)
“Agree? It’s a good idea right? Then we can spend time together! Infinite dates!” Jaemin finishes, his breath pouring into the phone in loud intervals as he wraps up his speech. Unfortunately, very little was heard or understood, so a simple- “Of course! Let’s do it!” suffices to make Jaemin happy.
The only downside is you’re completely unsure of what you have just signed yourself up for.
* It only takes 4 seconds with Jaemin’s mother to greet you with: “So you must be my son’s tutor!” to get you up to speed.
“Yes, Miss Na. Here to help with the classes he’s struggling in.” You beam, realizing you are ill-equipped, hands empty besides your special green pen with sparkly ink. “And, um, Jaemin said I should just bring myself- since he has his textbooks with him!” Scratching at your left shoulder, you hope she doesn't notice the bead of sweat forming on your forehead.
“Of course, of course. Well, come in, might I add- you are just as cute as a button! I set out some mango for you. You’ll be okay at the dining room table, I presume?”
“Gosh!” (You haven’t heard that exclamation come out of your mouth in ages.) “Thank you so much, and yes, that’s perfect.” Peering past Jaemin’s mom as you step inside, slipping your shoes off, you notice that his house is much different from yours. The ceilings are very low, wallpaper is seen peeling at the seams, and the floor is scuffed where you stand. Although clean, this house is struggling. Jaemin is at the table, his feet curled up onto a dining chair, making the hole in his sock visible.
“Now, do you have a running rate for your services? I know it looks like we don’t have the most money, but I work long hours and will be able to afford what you deserve. His education is everything to me.” Your heart breaks slightly, and you shake your head side to side.
“This is just volunteer work for the school’s Honor Society, don’t worry.” You make your way to Jaemin, who’s smiling at you from his seat. “The most I might need is… a signature? To mark off my hours...? If that’s okay.”
His mom’s eyebrows bounce in amazement. “Jaemin told me it might cost a bit, so I was really prepared! Please, if you need anything, let me know. Thank you so much. I have a shift in about 20 minutes, so I need to be on my way. Thank you, thank you, thank you!” She lets her palm slide down your arm and kisses Jaemin on top of his head, and then she’s gone.
The door slams and you turn your head to Jaemin with fire burning in your eyes. “You were going to have her pay me?! What is wrong with you?”
“You are seriously going to tutor me, why wouldn’t she pay you? I wanted to be fair.” He rolls his eyes and lets his head fall back against his neck.
“But you’re-” your eyes scan the entryway and dining room, fist balling.
“Yes, we are not rich.” He sits up properly in his chair. “Doesn’t mean we just get out of paying for things that you are meant to pay for.” He shimmies in his chair. “We aren’t slimy, and don’t think my mom only took your offer because she was excited to get out of paying. She believed you. That’s why she took it.” His palms fall flat on the table as he hoists himself up.
“I don’t think that!” You argue, “Don’t say that. I don’t think like that. Learn to trust a little, Jaem. I’m your friend, I didn’t want to be paid because I’m your friend. She works hard and doesn’t deserve to have to deal with you failing all your classes because you think not trying is cool.”
“I think trying is not cool? Are you serious? Is that the person you think I am?” Jaemin’s face gets bright red at that one.
You stutter slightly at the sight of him angry. “I didn’t mean that. I just said it, I don’t know why.” He laughs like he’s really hurt, like he’s so baffled he ran out of viable words. You don’t think you want to be here anymore. “I’m sorry.”
“Let’s study some English, then.” He sighs out.
You quickly learn that Jaemin is not the type to say something impulsively. That doesn’t mean he won’t crack a joke that objectively sucks or make a funny noise when he realizes he’s been quiet for too long; but rather that when he means to speak seriously, he will think it through thoroughly beforehand. He chooses his words carefully, even if they don’t sound carefully chosen, (his vernacular kind of lacks…) He just wants to be understood in a way where whatever he is expressing is exactly how he wants to express it. This is a great talent, one that you most definitely do not possess.
You’re in the middle of analyzing a poem when Jaemin interrupts you. “I do try. I try really, really hard.”
“I know.” You say, quietly.
“No, you don’t. Because what you said earlier must’ve had some truth to it. At least from your perspective. Now, I want to explain my perspective.” He looks up to your eyes without ever moving his head. His eyebrows furrow harshly as he thinks, and then lifts his head. For the first time in your life with Jaemin, this is the first time he’s looked so serious, the first time he hasn’t been smiling. “You are one of the only people on this Earth; besides my mom, that I actually want to make proud.” He fiddles with his pencil before letting it fall to his notebook page. “Everyone works at a different pace, you know? I work slightly slower, and that doesn’t mean I’m not trying- it doesn’t mean I’m stupid. It just means that I need more time to figure this shit out.” He shrugs in his zip-up hoodie, feeling the end of its sleeve between his fingers. “Who knows, maybe my end product— whether it’s a math equation or an essay, is better written, easier to understand, is...” He displays his palms in a ‘you get it’ manner. “There are a lot of students who struggle the same as me. We all try. It’s just different for us— learning is different. Please don’t just assume I don’t try because I don’t do well.”
Your eyes trace along the lines of his face for a moment before looking down at the sentences on the book below you. “I understand. I’m sorry. I hated how I said that so carelessly. I-I am proud of you. I am proud of you for many reasons. I want you to be proud of me too.” There’s a little silence afterwards, just so he can think about everything, process it. He whispers a “Thank you” and you complete one more problem before he’s back to spacing his eyes around the expanse of the room. It takes a minute or two until Jaemin is back to smiling, but the pain of worry stings his eyes, obviously feeling more than he wanted to let on. He opens his mouth a few times to speak before shutting it with a shake of his head. It hurts your heart more than you expect it to. “I’m only worried if I lose my position on the basketball team…” He stutters for a second, motioning with his hands. Looking away for a moment with his palm over his mouth. “I don’t want to lose this thing I love, and I don’t want to let down my team, and I don’t want to… to lose potential scholarships or let down you or my mom.” He forces this extremely weak smile and twirls a pencil nervously. “So… I’ve got to give it my all.” You lean back in your seat, and watch him come to terms with the feelings he's realizing that have suddenly begun to overwhelm him. “I’m gonna tutor the shit out of you.” His eyes dart up to you, scanning over your face before a smile tugs across his lips. This one is real, like he believes you. His head drops back to the paper on the table before him. “Don’t worry. You’re not losing anything or letting anyone down.” You tap your pen onto the next essay question in his homework, “I won’t let you.”
Jaemin leans over the table far enough that his butt leaves his seat so he can wrap his arms around your neck and rest his chin on your head. It lasts for a moment, then he pulls back, scoots himself in, and picks back up his pencil.
*
That Thursday, Jaemin and you stay after school. He has basketball practice, and asks you to wait in the gym as he goes into the locker room to change. They don’t wear masks, you guess because it could be hard to play with them on. There’s already a few guys dribbling a ball around and chatting while they wait, their shoes squeaking intermittently. “How do you know Jaemin?” One of them asks, you don’t recognize them from any of your classes, but Sungchan stands slightly behind him, ajar, watching his teammate interact with you.
“Same bus, actually.” You throw a thumb behind your shoulder as if you’re pointing to the bus lanes. They’re actually in the complete opposite direction. You hope he doesn’t notice.
He starts making his way over to you. “Oh cool. He’s one of the best players we've got.” He nods, beckoning for Sungchan to come join the both of you. “This is Sungchan, and I’m Jeno.”
“Nice to meet you, I’m Y/N.” Your shoulders instinctively broaden, like some intimidated wild animal. They’re taller than you. Jeno… not by a lot, but Sungchan has quite a few inches on you. Jeno says some stupid thing under his breath, something like… ”Rad,” “Epic,” or  “Chilllll.”
Explosive laughter echoes from behind you, and Jaemin is jogging up in athletic shorts and a jersey. “So awkward, Jeno.”
Jeno’s face flushes, he smiles, spinning around in an embarrassed circle, flourishing with the ball between his fingers. “Trying to welcome your newbie, leave me alone!” He bounces off towards the basketball hoop with big bounding leaps.
Sungchan gives a weak smile. “Nice to meet you.” You nod back, if anything he seems more shy than intimidating now. Jaemin pats your shoulder, poking a finger into your lower back to get you to start moving forward with him. You trail behind Sungchan as a few more boys come out of the locker rooms, boisterous enough to get you to turn back to watch them trickle out. Jaemin smiles at you, craning his head over to you, blocking the view of the door.
“I’m the cutest, trust me. Don’t bother wasting your time.” You smile back, turning forward as he pulls his hand back to his side. You believe him.
*
Jaemin texts you a picture of him with the rest of the basketball team, each one of them cheesing so hard that their eyes are all swallowed up. They surround their coach who in turn, holds Jaemin up on his shoulders. Jaemin has his fingers gripped tightly around a small trophy. You have to pinch and zoom in pretty far to even see the little gold award. Nonetheless, all of the boys look ecstatic.
‘Yessss!!!!!’ you text, littering the chat with confetti poppers and balloons.
He responds with a close up picture of him pouting his lips. ‘Where do you want it?’
You pull up your blankets out from under you, nuzzling your cheek into your comforter. ‘butt’. You type out, searching frantically for a gif after the read receipt pops up.
‘Your wish is my command.’ He responds, signing off the text with an emoji of a peach followed by one of a kiss. You smile big.
*
Jaemin is the same as always at school, only sometimes he glances over at you, mid-conversation with a friend and nods a slight smile, even across the entire room you never miss it. It’s low effort, but it feels like the best thing in the world. It makes you think to those bus rides where you didn’t know him at all, and how each season he looked more boyish than the rest, floppy and carefree and completely exasperated by his sprint to the bus doors. It was flashing shades of red and white and you wonder what he looks like now. You think to yourself how lucky you feel now. You don’t look away when he boards, or shy away behind the person’s head in front of you. He looks for your eyes and locks into them before you have time to pull your backpack into your lap. He’s calmed down now, like he understands you better and isn’t just being loud to cover up hidden worries. He squeezes up close and leans his head on your shoulder, he’ll lay his head down on your lap, and he will grab and hold your hand like it’s everything he will ever know. The red glow of the interior bus lights slide over the side of his face like a painting and he whispers homework answers like love poems. He’s easy, like it was always meant to be this way. You wonder how you ever lived without him.
*
It’s nearing the end of the semester now and tutoring Jaemin has been enlightening. His mind is beautiful and he never fails to surprise you with his specially hidden sensitive brilliance. It's dark when you finish up Jaemin's English packet and his mom arrives home with a noodle dish in a plastic to-go box. She sets it on the table and pushes it between the two of you. "I just ate some on the bus home, so I'm full. You two can share if you'd like. Again, Y/N, thank you so much for your kindness. I can sign now, then I'm off to the shower." She smiles. Jaemin gives a side glance that just screams 'She's never that nice to me!' And you can only reassure her that it's no issue, and Jaemin is a determined, creative learner. His ears blush with a saturated pink when his gaze shifts from his mom to you. His mom signs off on your paper and shuffles into a dark hallway behind the both of you.
"No way you actually believe that…" He fiddles with his warm ear between his index finger and thumb.
"Of course. You go after what you want."
Jaemin laughs and his hand falls into his lap. "Right, just very very slowly." You're packing up your textbook as you shoot him a smile.
"And? You said it. Different paces, it's alright. You have such a fun way of going about answering things. You can see in your work that you see the world differently from everyone else. You see it with hope.” You pluck the pencil from Jaemin’s loose fingers and tuck it into your pencil case with a smile. “You're smart."
His eyes light up. "Wow, no one has ever said that to me before. I could kiss you right now."
"But… should you?"
"Should I not?" Jaemin has this smile that glides across his face and eyes blink slowly, like a cat showing its affection.
“You can, if you’d like.”
Jaemin laughs sharply, rocking back in his seat with his palms pressed firm against the edge of the table. His smile falters into a downturned expression of focus. “No, because— I’ve dreamed of this…” He stands out of his seat, turns around and paces a few times across the dining room and through the kitchen.
“What are you doing?” You laugh, standing up to watch him. “Jaemin.” You place your pencil case on the table, folding your arms as he continues pacing.
“Wait, I can’t do it now. Give me like, 5 minutes.” He pauses, turns, faces you, and points. “I need to get you by surprise.” Then continues walking back and forth.
“I don’t want to be kissed by surprise, I want our first kiss to be…” You motion with wide swinging arms. “Like, kind and…” Your hands cup and cradle the air.
Jaemin stares, nods slightly like he’s factoring in a few different possibilities and outcomes, and then returns back to his seat. You stare down at him for a second, and his eyes flicker up to you for a moment before returning to his homework. He spins a pencil around and between his fingers.
“I want to like… make out.” You say softly, watching him from above. He stops pacing for a second, processes, then continues. “I want to… touch you all over.” Your stomach turns harshly, and Jaemin freezes again, his body still. “I want to have—”
“Y/N! You’re still here. You’re usually on your way home by now, aren’t you?” Her voice is slightly stern, your eyes bulge and flicker between Jaemin and his mom. Neither of you dare to move. Your logic is: Maybe if you’re super still, she will forget the last 10 seconds.
It does not work.
She clears her throat, and you see her hair wrapped in a towel, pajama-clad figure just in the corner of your peripheral vision. You think you might pee yourself out of fear. “Need anything else signed? A ride home?” You can only shake your head slowly before turning and swiping a few papers into your backpack, gathering it up and walking to the door without ever glancing back at Jaemin.
“We’re dating. I’m their boyfriend.” He spits out, Jaemin’s voice makes your head whip around, and your eyes skip back and forth between Jaemin and his mom. Your heart is beating out through your ears. “We were going to kissssss...” His words fizzle out and his eyes shift between his mom and you as you attempt your daring escape. He points down at the table, finger pressing into a notebook. “Go.” He whispers, and you both sprint out the door.
The moonlight cuts through the trees as you walk down the street. Jaemin doesn’t usually walk you home, but since the sun has been setting earlier and it’s getting colder, he has been occasionally joining you. He hooks your elbows like a barrel of monkeys.
Jaemin laughs so hard he has to wipe tears from his eyes. “I thought she was going to actually strangle you, throw your body across the room like a doll.” You lean forward and back again as you laugh, Jaemin steps heavy with tireless energy and silent laughter casts over the street.
“We’re-dating-I’m-their-boyfriend.” You mock him, and he shoves you with a shoulder off the curb. You try to catch yourself, pulling your hands out of your pockets a second too late. Jaemin grabs your arm and pulls you back to him, shouting apologies up until you can steady yourself. “You’re so cute,” you whisper. He pulls you into his chest and you lock eyes for a moment, it’s almost romantic before you stick your pinky in his ear. At this point, you’re sure you’ll keep sabotaging yourself out of this excitement until you’re both 80. It makes his shoulders jump and his neck go limp, his arms noodling and recoiling away from your touch. You both laugh until you make eye contact again.
“I like you. I really do. A lot.” He gushes, his fingers sliding their way up your sides to pull out your ears.
“I like you when you’re ugly.” He pushes your nose up, snorting like a pig. “I like you when you’re beautiful.” He lets his fingers trace down your neck, kissing you twice, chastely on your jaw. “I liked you when you took my seat on the bus.” He folds a hand around your wrist. “And I liked you when you left your lunchbox in the aisle.” He kisses again, another time on your cheek.
“But I like you the most, the absolute most…” He kisses your bottom lip, giggling as he moves his way up, angling himself with a slight bend to his knee “…when you like me too.”

skittles-1312 asked:
Hi, love the Sugar Mummies series so much. I was wondering if you would ever do a fic for it where the reader has assignments due for college and isn't taking care of herself so wanda, nat and carol step in? if not its no worries :)

I feel like reader would totally forget to eat/sleep if they got busy with uni work and that just wouldn't fly with the mommies/ or they would be over tired and be disrespectful by accident and be like oh shit afterward 😂 (again, I might write something different for this prompt, so I’ll keep it open!) xox

Hey! This prompt submission is slightly self centered haha! I was wondering if you could do something based on the reader having a hard time studying for an exam, and how SM would help? Thank you so much, and I do have to say I absolutely love this, you’re a wonderful writer! (For this one I won’t check it off as I might write something else for you!) xox
All of my work is 18+
Now this has been in my drafts for another piece of work over on AO3: Give Them a Kiss to Dream Of but I don’t think I’ll post it on there for a while so enjoy!💋
❤️💋❤️💋
The second Wanda wakes up, she knows you’re not next to her. Gone is the constant little bundle of warmth that had been nestled into the side of her for the better part of an hour, replaced now only with a cold space that tells Wanda you have been gone for quite some time.
Crafty little menace, Wanda thinks, using my own plan against me.
With a groan and a stretch, the red head rubs her tired eyes; knuckles catching the crusty specks of sleep that had congregated in the corners and rolls her aching shoulder until it cracks. She can hear you typing away frantically at your keyboard: can visualise you sitting back at the breakfast bar, with a fresh mug of your favourite coffee steaming next you, and your h/c hair up in that messy bun you tend to shove it in when you’re stressing about things or rushing around. Personally, it’s one of Wanda’s favourite’s looks on you. She can’t help but picture it to be the hairstyle you would opt for whilst on your knees before herself and Natasha and Carol; mouth open like the good girl you are; or perhaps it would be the hairstyle for your punishment for not listening to Wanda. And, oh, how Wanda would enjoy watching the loose bun in your hair jerk alongside the rest of your body with every perfectly aimed smack on your ass…Wanda would love to greedily reach down to seize it with a fist - force you to keep your head up and accept the spanking from Natasha while Carol just watches from her chair…
Stop! Wanda drags herself from her thoughts, with a lot of reluctance, you can do that later.
“I’m gonna need backup.”
You don’t even look up from your computer when Wanda leaves the room. You barely even acknowledge her presence when she comes back in five minutes later, a very irritable Natasha behind her. It isn’t until the door slams - the sound of it echoing loudly around the room - does your head snap up; eyes already widening with fear as your eyes make contact with Natasha. Behind her, stands Carol, who looks equally as pissed as her other half. Under different circumstances, like maybe when your life isn’t in immediate danger, you might even have made a comment about Natasha’s fantastic bedhead and Carol’s silky pink eye mask that hangs around her neck. But you don’t.
You offer both women a small smile, ignoring Wanda who just looks so smug. Natasha eyes narrow and she moves straight for you and you launch yourself off your chair, hands outstretched in front of you.
“No! No, Nat - Nat please!” You’re practically scrambling around the kitchen in a weak attempt to escape the furious redhead. “Come on, please! I gotta work!”
You flail as she makes a grab for you and somehow keep out of her grasp. Carol walks around the other side in an effort to corner you.
“Y/N.”
“Sleep can wait, Nat, c’mon!” You frantically look at the blonde, “Carol, please!”
“Y/N, I swear to God; come here!” Natasha pounces.
You’ve almost made it in a full circle back to your laptop - and you have every intention of grabbing it and running straight for your room - but of course, Wanda is there with your laptop cradled against her chest. You stop just before you collide right into her.
“Traitor.”
She winks at you. “I know.”
You let out a defeated sigh and accept your fate when Carol gets to you. Effortlessly she scoops you over her shoulder, and, without a single word, she carries you from the room.
“Y’know; if I fail this essay I will actually blame the three of you.”
Wanda and Natasha walk behind you both, hand in hand.
“If you fail, you get another attempt to do it and more time, no?” Wanda asks.
“...I guess…”
“Then blame us all you want.” Natasha replies.
“And how can you possibly be writing anything decent when you’re running off no sleep and caffeine?” Carol asks.
You shrug. “It’s a student thing I guess.”
Carol walks you up the stairs as Natasha says, “Well this student needs rest.”
“No I don’t.” You mumble, earning a swift smack to your upper thigh from Carol. You let out a little gasp. “Hey!”
The doors your shared bedroom open and before you know it, you’re being hand delivered to the bed.
The blonde dumps you down, where you bounce a few times on the mattress.
“Get in bed, Y/N.”
You go to argue but the sheer look alone that you’re getting from Natasha is enough for the words to shrivel up on your tongue. You purse your lips and follow the order. The second your head hits the plush pillow, you instantly feel your eyes getting heavy.
“Sleep, Y/N. I mean it. If I dare get woken up again and find out you’ve left to get your laptop - that I am going to personally hide myself - I will throw it out of a window. While I make you watch.” Natasha raises a finger when you go to argue. “Don’t think that I won’t.”
You know she isn’t lying. Clint, Natasha’s best friend, still hasn’t forgiven her for his arrows.
“Actually - if I find out that you’re doing anything but sleeping from now until...let’s say...1pm...then I can personally assure you that your laptop won’t survive. Got it?”
Fuck.
“Yes, ma’am. Got it.”
“Five hours. That’s all we’re asking, detka.” Wanda adds softly. “Once you’ve slept, you can get back to your work.”
“Maybe.”
“But for now, go to sleep. Recharge that tired little brain.” Carol leans down to kiss your forehead.
Natasha is quick to do the same. “Now sleep.”
“Aren’t you coming back to bed?” You can’t help but ask in a small voice.
The three women, who all stand around you, all share a glance.
“It’s 8am baby girl. If you wanted to sleep with us, you should have come to bed when it was actually bed time.”
You can’t help the pout that forms. Wanda quickly kisses it away.
“How about I stay? Until you fall asleep, at least.”
“Okay!”
“Wanda, I swear to God, you better not distract her.” Natasha says.
“Cross my eyes and hope to die.”
“Heart.” Carol corrects.
“Heart what?”
Natasha lets out a small laugh.
“Nothing, bunny.” She pulls Wanda down for a kiss before pushing her towards the bed. “Just sleep, yes. Nothing else.”
“We will find out.” Carol adds on.
“Yeah, yeah.” Wanda says as she clambers over you. The second her warm body is under the duvet alongside you, you nestle into her and relish in her body warmth.
You’re already drifting off.
“We’ll come and check on you two in a while.”
“Okay.” Wanda whispers, her fingers finding their home in your hair where she begins to scratch at your temple.
By the time Natasha and Carol shut the bedroom door behind them, you’re already fast asleep encased in Wanda’s arms; and you dream of nothing but them.

Request a drabble using this prompt list!
"I swear, it's like he has eyes everywhere. I can't even buy a lump of cheese and a loaf of bread without him breathing down my neck."
Mumbles Piper, taking a swig out of his mug of Moomoo Milk before slamming it on the counter.
"Every piece of gold, every purchase we make-"
"All is accounted for, he's quite good at what he does. He's always been like that, even back at Mistralton."
Antoniou muses, swirling a mixing stick into his cup of coffee. Compared to the rest of the party, concerned at best, annoyed at worst, he was glowing with pride.
"It is quite impressive, actually. A true student of the Mistralton branch."
"Impressive?! It's creepy!"
Kurusu glances from the other end of the counter, fist clenching into a cup of hot cocoa.
"I make one purchase at some small store downtown and he's on my case all night about it! How is a chocolate bar going to 'financially murder the entire party', and how is it my fault entirely?!"
"A chocolate bar is nothing,"
Abbot laughs- he's the man behind the counter, the one preparing the party's drinks.
"I was in a rush to buy herbs and medicines- you know, so I could do my job as an apothecary; next thing I know, I've built up quite a tab in the store. No problem, I think, I'll pay it all of- but since Ohashi hasn't heard of these purchases, and I've amassed quite a debt, well,"
He pours a questionable liquid into a mug, a murky, sparkling gray.
"I learned my lesson- though I'm not allowed to experiment any new formulas for the time being, on account of Ohashi banning me from using the party's funds."
"Serves you Right,"
Abbot glares, but doesn't argue.
Lobanov takes the curious concoction, swirling it in his hands.
"He's a Little Debt Collector, That one. Very Terrifying- but What do you Expect, he is a Merchant of Plasma Harmonia Academia."
"I think he's doing a really good job then,"
Grumbles Descante- his own choice of drink was a simple, freshly squeezed lemonade; and he hoped Abbot didn't add anything to it.
"Representing the academy's business majors, I mean. Don't we have to pay him three pieces of gold daily?"
"The staff at Aspertia would put down donation boxes,"
Slater whispers under his breath, lips pressed against the rim of his teacup- his choice of drink was Pecha tea with coconut milk.
"It wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't, um, mandatory."
"Little bloodsucking parasites,"
Technamare puts up his smoothie for Aibert to drink from- clearly annoyed at the mention of collecting fees.
"Opelucid wasn't any better- an entrance fee for the exams, the tuition, they didn't even offer scholarships, when they're the branch that'd benefit from having one!"
"Nice to know that, aside from running cults, planning deaths, masterminding this whole ordeal while carrying out this so-called god's will-"
Abbot slides Kurosawa his drink- a cup of Iapapa berry juice.
"-they're also stealing money from us."
Piper rolls his eyes. "And you guys say I'm the traitor-"
Technamare immediately looks at the thief. "You literally are-"
Piper waves his hand dismissively. "Yeah, fine, it was a one time thing-"
Descante, furrowed eyebrows, speaks up next. "You tried to kill Slater-"
"Well, I stopped doing that! Unlike Ohashi who bleeds us dry every time!"
"Who's bleeding who dry?"
The rest of the party goes quiet.
Stepping inside Abbot's private bar, Ohashi steps in with the sound of his wares jingling inside his backpack- as a merchant, he carried business as usual even as the party were labeled fugitives and heretics by the rest of the world, and maintained steady connections.
Out of all of them, it was no doubt Ohashi worked the hardest.
Yet.
Everyone turns away- completely unwilling to fess up.
Ohashi needs no confirmation, however.
"I take it the ingredients used for everyone's drinks were part of yesterday's trip to the market, Abbaticcio?"
"Right," There's a peaceful smile as he wipes a glass- it's hard to tell if it was fake or not. "No need to worry about that."
"Hmph. You say that,"
He glances at everyone.
He must have some sort of innate magic ability, Piper thought, because his glare was the iciest it's ever been- and the way it quickly melts into something, one of seething rage-
"-but while you lot were here gossiping amongst yourselves, I've observed there's been discrepancies between the reported expenses and our current budget."
Uh-oh.
"Kurosawa, Piper, Kurusu, Lobanov-"
The rest unmentioned quickly rose to their feet, scampering upstairs. Abbot hastily throws the last of the cleaned glasses into the shelf and makes a run for it.
"-meet me outside. We need to talk."
Kurusu looks like he wants to argue- but shrinks back when Ohashi stares into his exposed eye.
With a shrug, Lobanov takes one last sip of Abbot's strange drink, stretching his muscles and walking outside with Kurusu clinging to his coat.
"What did you buy?" Kurosawa asked. "You're the one always in trouble with him."
"You're in his bad books too!"
"It was probably some bandages I brought in a rush!"
"Like hell it was!"
"Both of you,"
Placing gloved hands on their shoulders, Ohashi leans close.
"Like it or not, I'll never part from your side,"
It was less of a reassurance- especially with how tightly he squeezed.
"So while I'm around, you better pay your dues. Otherwise,"
Somehow, out of everything we've encountered so far-
"You'll know why they warn you about making a deal with the devil."
-why is Ohashi the scariest?!

Sarah meets Tom in January, outside a very discreet queer pub in New York during Christmas' holidays and they decide to get married in February. Only Slider and a friend of Sarah, Olly? Molly?, are present and when the judge say you can kiss your bride Tom kisses her cheek and thanks her. A week later Sarah is back to school, studying to become a lawyer and taking a minor in art, and Tom is back to his post. They don't wear a ring but they share a black bracelet they chose after they signed all the right documents.
Tom calls her from deployment around the world when he can, Sarah studies and gets her degree and then she passes her bar exam and Tom flies commercial to be there, Slider with him and Olly, Molly?, more happy then ever to see them both. People call her Mrs. Kazansky and Tom has to take her hand in his before she punches someone and their parents too. Everytime Tom hears someone saying Mrs. Kazansky he can't help but straight out his uniform because where his mom is the General follows. But, for once, they aren't talking about his family.
Between a deployment and another they buy a house, big enough to have two bedroom, a study and an art room they make in a garage that's almost always empty, a garden where to host barbecues during the fourth of July and a livingroom with a couch big enough to serve as another bed in case Slider or one of their friends wants to stay for the night. Sarah's room is on the left side of the second floor and Tom's on the right. They're both almost thirty five and their life is better than they would have thought. Sarah works all the cases she wants because she is a very good lawyer that learned a thing or two about stern looks from Tommy and Iceman starts getting promoted so fast they stop throwing a party everytime or they'll spend all the time celebrating. They still have to go around Sarah's house and plays the happy couple, answering questions about babies (that Sarah doesn't want and that Iceman doesn't care abour, at all), about their anniversary (they spend the last one going out to dinner and then to dance because they are allowed to have fun, okay? Two before the last Tom tried to take Sarah up in the sky but she almost fainted after seeing the plane so they end up going out for a hiking and eating icecream for dinner), the sex (that makes Tom red in the face and Sarah giggling because if they only knew) and why don't they kiss in front of other people (Tom is shy).
Once Ron tried to make one of them explain what type of marriage they were in, loveless and sexless?, and Sarah has looked right in his eyes for so long the pasta in his dish has gone cold. This one, she finally says pointing her fork directly at Ice's face, is still in love with Mave-rick drawing rainbows and writing Mr. and Mr. Kazansky-Mitchell on every piece of paper he can find but doesn't talk about it with him because everytime Pete is around he gets stupider than usual and for me? I got to finish my studies, married someone my dad likes, who cares about me and remembers my favourite ice cream without having to remember him every two minutes. 'S strange but good strange.
The food is pretty good too Slider added because Ice's face was red as the tomato sauce, Sarah was laughing and he wouldn't want the night to be ruined by awkward conversation.

hehe you asked for questions so i wanted to ask - what do you think inspired doc to get into law? 🧐
(i mean, im assuming he does have a law degree cause there’s no way he could become a court judge without it right? and i’d assume it would be *after* the med degree.)
I've thought of the different possibilities and routes that could have gotten Doc that title and strangely enough a couple things took place today that helped me piece a headcannon together.
*****
When Doc was maybe mid-thirties/mid-forties he had a patient come through Radiator Springs with a severe infection in the lungs that could have been prevented. Their previous doctor had written it off as part of a chronic underlying health condition the patient had and because this infection was completely preventable Doc asked if the patient wished to file a grievance. This was the patient's lungs in danger. With his personal history, Doc wasn't going to just let that slide.
Filing a grievance calls the insurance of the patient and the malpractice insurance of the defending doctor into play. Hearings take place with a patient advocate where its the word of one doctor against another, and if found in the wrong, the defending physician will have that on their record and their malpractice insurance must repay what the patient's insurance originally covered.
While Doc wanted to make sure everything could be done correctly for the patient, he also found the whole process interesting, the research in building an argument and presenting yourself and your findings.
It's also a form of arguing in a sense and we all know Doc loves that...
Anyway, shortly after this instance Doc receives a notice from the state of Arizona that with the last census taken, they see that the population of the community is taking a downturn. Without a certain number of residents, the need for anything more than an acute care facility is highly unlikely. He is given a few options by the time the next census would be completed. Move to a larger populated area, downsize his practice to an acute care (emergency) facility, or 'take an early retirement'.
He's not letting something else in his life be taken from him, certainly after he worked so hard for his certification. and he's not hiring some big time lawyer from the city who probably doesn't care if his practice continues or not.
To get in to law school, a student only needs a bachelors degree and to pass the Law School Admission Test. Doc already has a doctorate and with 'fewer patients' as the state has pointed out to him, he has the time to pick up classes.
Like everything else in his life, he takes the unconventional route and takes the Bar Exam early. The first time just missing a passing grade by a few points and after taking a mental break to recollect himself he retakes the exam and passes a few months later.
So he defends himself against the state of Arizona essentially. While that is a little dramatic, this is Doc we're talking about. Winning his own case, he suddenly has certification in law as well and everyone is coming to him with every little document under the sun. They need a letter notarized or they want their will filed correctly.....
As years pass, he's the only one with legal knowledge aside from Sheriff and because Radiator Springs is apparently the county seat of Carburetor County (that's why the courthouse is there) the state of Arizona appoints him to county judge or 'common pleas judge'.
Basically so he can handle hooligans that tear the road apart in the middle of the night.

✧ HAPPY BIRTHDAY @deathberi ✧
Tumblr media
Honestly, I'm so glad that we became friends because it's so hard to find people who vibe with your entire thought process and share all the same reactions or inhibitions over everything. Thank you so much for always lending an ear to my crazy and petty fandom or life related rants, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be as active in the Mimato fandom as I am now had we not become friends when we did 💗
After almost 2 years of telling people that there will be a part 2 of the post-Tri coffee shop oneshot, I've finally managed to pull myself together and write it for Eri's birthday!
And for a change, I'll be posting the entire fic on tumblr, though you can also read it on FFN/AO3 if you wish 🫶🏻
Summary: After the Ordinemon incident, bit by bit the kids are able to pick up the pieces and move on with their lives. Amongst the chaos of change, Yamato and Mimi discover their friendship runs deeper than either had ever thought.
Word count: 5743, Fandom: Digimon, Pairing: Mimato, Genre: Slow burn/friendship/romance
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“I’ll have a venti matcha berry frappe, nonfat, refrigerated chilled milk, absolutely no ice, extra whipped cream, which, make sure, is layered perfectly, with three pumps of caramel syrup and two of vanilla.”
He could feel his manager’s eyes boring into his back, so Yamato did what any other good employee in his place would, he kept a straight face and diligently noted down the customer’s request before moving on to ringing it up without once bothering to look at the girl standing behind the counter or ask for her name. He wondered if his manager would find it strange, that he hadn’t taken the customer’s name, but seeing as Yamato was already putting all his effort into concentrating well on his job and not exploding on the brunette who seemed to take some pleasure out of his misery, he decided that he was allowed this one slip. He’d deal with his manager later, since the bigger problem was in front of him, eyeing him with a teasing glint in her caramel eyes as he picked up the paper cup and moved on to the workstation to begin her order. He did however, keep a track of what his manager was doing from the corner of his eye, and the minute the older man was out of sight, Yamato breathed a sigh of relief and spun on his feet.
“Please Mimi, by all means, go ahead and make my job more difficult.” Yamato seethed, managing to keep his voice low to not attract any attention to them.
“Well, if you’re going to ask that nicely,” Mimi smirked, as always she had the upper hand in the conversation due to the safety guaranteed by being a customer at the shop.
“Just take the drink and go, let me work in peace.” Yamato attempted to maintain a superior tone as he begged her to leave, turning again to add the finishing touches to her order as quickly as he could before his superior caught a whiff of his not-so-welcoming attitude towards their customers.
“Now where’s the fun in that?” Mimi beamed at him, as she accepted the finished product from his hand, her fingers brushed against his own for a brief moment, suddenly making Yamato hyper aware of the spot at the back of his hand.
“Don’t you have anything better to do? Entrance exams to worry about?” He asked exasperatedly, she seemed too carefree for someone who was in the last year of high school, remembering his own experience of it from the previous year.
Mimi scoffed in reply, waving a hand in the air to brush aside his concern for her education. Instead of turning to make her way out of the store now that she had received her order, she settled on the empty bar stool on the other side of the pick-up counter, resting one elbow on the countertop as she took careful sips of her drink from the other hand. He watched her like a hawk, Yamato wouldn’t put it past the brunette to make fake claims about the taste of the drink just to get him into trouble. This had been going on for a few months now, every time he had a shift during her after-school hours, Mimi would make it her life’s purpose to show up and annoy him to no extent. He’d attempted to explain to her, that he needed to keep this job to maintain his living expenses, but apparently, the pleasure she got from watching him stumble around while making coffee seemed to take precedence over his livelihood.
Of course, Mimi wasn’t the only one to blame here, if only his roommate at college wasn’t a bigger pain in the ass, Yamato would never had have to take up this part-time job in the first place. When he had complained to his father about not being able to get along well with his roomie, instead of agreeing to raise his monthly allowance so that Yamato could move out and rent a place of his own, his father had promptly told him that as an adult, he should learn to solve his problems from now on. Yamato had half a mind to remind his father that he and his friends had not only solved the Digital World’s problems on multiple occasions, but also saved their own world by doing so, but he'd stayed quiet and accepted his fate. On Takeru’s recommendation, he took up a job at this popular coffee joint, the pay was decent and the hours weren’t too bad and well Yamato always did have a knack for being good in the kitchen, so it suited his purposes of saving up to move out of the college dorm as soon as possible just well.
Until Mimi happened to walk in one day and decided to take matters into her own hands.
She was surprised to see him behind the counter, and at first, she had just been curious, about what he was doing here or what he had been up to since the graduation ceremony. Yamato admitted, that ever since he graduated high school, he’d finally understood what Jou had been struggling with for the longest time, it wasn’t easy to maintain friendships when one was thrust with the responsibility of taking care of every single aspect of their life and somehow pursue studies on which one’s future life depended at the same time. He considered himself lucky if he was able to have a phone conversation with Takeru that lasted more than 5 minutes in a day. So he hadn’t been wary of Mimi popping up every now and then, updating him about her and Koushiro’s school life, and sometimes Jou’s and Sora’s too. It gave him a way to stay connected with everyone without having to make time for them, and while he did feel guilty about this on multiple occasions, he was grateful for it too.
That was before Mimi got bored with just talking about their lives, and decided to spice up their encounters by getting him into light trouble with his manager. It was usually just silly little things like claiming he got her order wrong or giving extremely complicated and hard to follow requests, and she had never pulled something huge that would seriously get Yamato in trouble, but it was still frustrating and it ruined his mojo for the rest of his shift.
There was also the question of why Mimi had suddenly taken such a liking to spending time with him, of all people, since they'd never been close enough for a relationship like this. They’d spent time together before sure, and they’d had their fair share of agreements and disagreements when it came to matters related to the Digital World, but apart from that Yamato could barely remember any interactions with her that didn’t circle back to the Digital World or their Digimon Partners. So the thought always nagged at him, at the back of his head, when she would appear with a skip in her step and fix him with one of the brightest smiles he knew.
But then she would go on to do something diabolical, and he’d be reminded of how similar she was to his little brother, which led to him missing Takeru and left him irritated and wishing for her to leave.
Pulling himself out of his thoughts, Yamato turned his attention towards the brunette sitting in front of him, she had set down the drink on the countertop and was currently surveying the store with her bright eyes, the mischievous glint in them indicating that she was just looking for something that could serve as a prop of the day in interfering with his work. Relieved that he had caught her while she was still in her planning phase, Yamato decided to take control of the situation before his manager returned and reprimanded him for being rude to their customers.
“You really don’t have anything better to do?” Yamato began icily, making Mimi turn her gaze towards him, the challenging look on her face seemed to put the last nail to his patience’s coffin as he snapped at her, “Don’t you have any friends?”
He regretted it the minute those words left his mouth, biting his tongue in an attempt to stop himself from groaning outwardly.
The effect on Mimi was immediate, all colour drained from her face and her eyes shone with a blanket of tears just waiting to fall, but with a single blink she managed to keep them at bay and faced him with a hardened look as she replied quietly, “I thought that’s what we were.”
And before Yamato could make any attempts to take back his statements or even begin to apologize for his behaviour, Mimi was out of the door, leaving behind her drink on the counter, without sparing a single glance in his direction.
Yamato allowed himself to groan out loud when he picked up her cup to clear the counter and found that it was still heavy, she had barely begun to drink it. He couldn’t help but chide himself internally, for missing something so obvious, for even deliberating on an answer that was right in front of his eyes this entire time.
Yamato couldn’t believe that he, of all people, had missed out on the signs of their budding friendship, and had pushed it aside as nothing but an occasional nuisance within his routine. His optimistic side hoped that he would just explain himself to her when she’d show up tomorrow, even offer her her favourite drink for free as a token of his apology. But a tiny voice at the back of his head reminded him, that there was no way Mimi would come back to spend time with him after this.
Unfortunately, it was the tiny voice that prevailed in its prediction, as Mimi didn’t show up the next day or the one after that, or after that.
At first, Yamato consoled himself by devoting himself to the tasks at hand, happy to finally be able to concentrate on his work, he managed to win praises from his manager on multiple occasions which pushed Mimi’s absence from his surroundings out of his head, and for a while, it worked.
But then there were slow days when he didn’t have much to do but stand behind the counter and look at all the people sitting around in groups or twos and threes, laughing and chatting loudly as they sipped their coffees and munched on their food. The sight would tug on an invisible string in his heart, making him long for Mimi’s teasing smile as she rattled off an order comprising of the most incompatible ingredients, laughing loudly at the look of horror that would take over his face as he wrote down her instructions. There were days when the shop would be eerily silent, and he’d hear her voice in his head, telling him about something that had happened at school. There were days when someone would walk by with a pet, cuddling it and showering it with affection, making him miss Gabumon’s soft fur and he’d instinctively turn towards the pick-up counter, hoping to tell Mimi about it but was met with emptiness instead.
He hadn’t realised, just how much he had managed to share with her during their encounters, and how he had begun to depend on her company to get him through his mundane work life. And in true Yamato fashion, he had gone ahead and messed it all up by thinking about things from only his perspective.
It was on another such slow day when Yamato was just standing behind the counter with mundane blue eyes watching the people that passed by the cafe's entrance that his father’s words echoed in his mind once again. As an adult he had to learn to solve his problems without help from others, so was standing here day in and day out, waiting for Mimi to appear through the door once again really how he wanted this to end? He knew he was capable of doing better, and that realisation came with a burst of motivation to take matters into his own hand.
Looking at the ingredients lined up on the shelf behind him, Yamato put his mind and then hands to work, coming up with a coffee drink only Mimi would enjoy sipping through. After he set the finished drink aside, he carefully checked his manager's office, which had been empty when he had clocked in, and to his delight was still so. Asking around among his colleagues he found that their senior was on leave today and after a quick roster negotiation with the staff he was on good terms with, Yamato picked up the coffee cup and ducked out of work early.
His feet carried him towards his school without needing many instructions from his brain, but what he did notice was that his coffee shop was actually not that far from it at all. Maybe another reason why Mimi had ended up dropping by so frequently, it probably was just a stop on her way home from school. When he arrived at the school gates, he checked the time on his wristwatch and smiled to himself, just a few more minutes and the students would begin pouring out in herds.
As time passed, however, Yamato shifted his feet restlessly, he hadn’t visited this area since he graduated and standing outside the entrance to his school while he was not in uniform made him feel like he was doing something wrong, that any of his teachers would just waltz up to him parroting off the school policy any minute. He didn’t have much of a choice, however, since this was his decision and turning back now just to escape a little bit of embarrassment would set him back a few steps over the progress he was trying to make. He gripped the takeaway coffee cup in his hand and reminded himself that the reason he was here was to make amends, no matter what the consequences.
So he stood a few paces away from the school’s main gate and kept a watchful eye on the students passing by in groups of threes and fours, hoping to catch hold of the person he had come here to see soon enough. Yamato had expected her to be out the doors mixed in with a big group of girls, laughing and chattering away about their day, but he'd been standing here for a while now and despite the large crowd of students that had already exited the building, he was yet to lay his eyes upon her. The coffee cup in his hand had been chilled to the point that it felt frozen when he left the shop with it but now it was starting to slowly lose its coolness, and he wondered if he had chosen the wrong day to show up. Maybe Mimi was busy with some club meeting after school or she might’ve taken a sick day today, which would mean that he’d have to repeat his efforts some other day. The school could easily let him camp outside for a day, but surely he’d raise some questioning eyebrows if he appeared here for two consecutive days.
But just as he was contemplating turning around and going back, his eyes finally caught sight of the familiar shade of pastel hair, that shined with a hint of pink when the light hit it just right. To his surprise, however, Mimi was not exiting the school in a large group surrounded by friends, she was walking all by herself with hands shoved in her coat’s pocket and her head hanging low, a sight that Yamato never expected to see. He didn’t want to seem like he was putting her in a mould, but at some level for him, Mimi was the personification of brightness, so to see her look so dull and drained was almost eye-opening in some sense. Now he felt even more guilty for his actions before, for pushing her away and treating her like a nuisance without ever giving a second thought to what kind of problems she was facing by herself.
The Ordinemon incident took its toll on each of them in different ways, for Taichi witnessing their teacher’s death made an irreparable hole in his heart, for Hikari coming to terms with the fact that she and her brother shared idealistic differences hadn’t been easy, for Jou and Sora, completely moving on from their responsibilities as a chosen child to focus on themselves and their futures was a bittersweet choice, for Takeru learning to make the most of the things that hurt him took centerstage in his life, and for Koushiro drowning himself in working to make the connection between the Digital World and their world more stable became his life’s only goal.
And yet somehow, Yamato assumed that Mimi was unaffected, that she was the only one out of them all who conquered the painful memories and continued to live life as happily as she always had. It hadn’t crossed his mind at all that the reason why she sat across him at the coffee shop day in and day out could have just been a way for her to avoid dealing with her problems. He never even considered the possibility that the few moments of laughter and teasing she shared with him could have been the highlight of her day. Perhaps, it had been reassuring for Yamato to think that at least one of them made it out of that fiasco unharmed, maybe assuming that he had one friend less to worry about was an easier truth to accept.
After all, what help had his silent presence been of to Taichi, or even to Takeru for that matter? Had he been able to find the comforting words to tell Jou and Sora that they made the right decision? Had he ever taken a moment to understand where Hikari’s anger towards Taichi came from, or what kind of unreasonable expectations Koushiro set for himself? No, the only moment when Yamato felt that he was doing something right as a friend was when Mimi sat across him with her bright eyes and loud laugh filling his world with colours unimaginable.
Taking a deep breath, Yamato kept his eyes fixed on the brunette who now had reached the school gate without noticing him. He knew that if he called out to her, it might draw unneeded attention towards her so he waited for her to turn her back to him as she walked in the direction of the train station. Swiftly, but as unsuspiciously as he could, he followed her before eventually falling into step with her. With her head still hung low, it seemed that Mimi was yet to notice his presence.
“Hey, Mimi!”
Yamato called out to her in a normal tone, but Mimi still jumped up in surprise, eyes wide with disbelief as she halted in her tracks and looked up at him.
“Are you looking to get punched?” She frowned at him as she rested a palm on her chest, possibly trying to calm herself.
“Sorry, I didn’t want to startle you.” Yamato smiled sheepishly, realising that he hadn’t made the best move after all.
“And how’s that working out for you?”
The sarcasm dripping from Mimi’s voice and the gloomy aura that surrounded her was a clear sign of how maybe today was not the best day for Yamato to carry out his plan. But the now slightly less cold cup of coffee in his hand reminded him that since he made it this far, there was no point in turning back now.
“Sorry, again,” Yamato said, moving quickly to make space for a passer-by which put him directly in front of Mimi. With all the courage that he had left in his bones, he raised the cup of coffee in his hand, offering it to her as he spoke, “I got some time off today so I thought I’d bring you a peace offering.”
Mimi didn’t immediately take the cup from his hand which made a shiver run down his spine as she folded her arms across her chest and tilted her head up towards him, shooting a glare at him with her fierce caramel eyes as she asked, “And why should I bother to accept this peace offering?”
Yamato bit his lip nervously as his grip on the coffee cup tightened. The apology he had practised at home, kind of tied in with the premise that Mimi would accept his little token and then agree to hear him out in her usual lighter mood. He couldn’t be sure if the words he originally picked would please the Mimi that stood in front of him now with a guarded posture and distrustful eyes.
“Look, I really am sorry for the way I behaved,” he said. Mimi immediately scoffed at him and began to roll her eyes so he hastily explained himself better, “I know you find that hard to believe right now, but I’m not sure how I can prove it to you if you don’t have a little faith in me.
Maybe it was the sincerity in his voice, or it may have been his blunt choice of words, but there was a flicker in Mimi’s eyes as her head perked up, indicating that she was beginning to let down her guard. She raised a hesitant hand and before he knew it, her fingers brushed against his as she decided to take the coffee cup he had prepared for her.
Yamato curled his fists to contain the excitement that rushed through his veins at the thought of being able to earn Mimi’s forgiveness just as he had imagined it in his head. He recounted his next words carefully in his mind before speaking up again, his voice filled with twice the confidence he had started with.
“Of course, I consider us friends.”
Mimi’s eyes widened at his simple declaration, it was hard to miss the colour that rushed to her pale cheeks, the sight of which made his own heartbeat pick up pace, though he did not understand the reason why it happened.
“I have always considered you as a friend, right from the very first time we got dumped into the Digital World.” Yamato continued, knowing that he had her undivided attention, he didn’t want to waste any time dwelling on his own feelings. Chuckling softly, Yamato ran a hand through his hair before he spoke again, “And believe me I know that I haven’t exactly been good at showing it, but that doesn’t make it any less true. Again, I’m sorry about what I said, and of course, the way I behaved.”
She averted her gaze the minute he stopped speaking so at first, Yamato thought that he had said something wrong. A thin veil of silence settled between them and each passing second that Mimi did not look up to meet his eye started to feel like a hellish eternity. Had she been expecting him to say something else, had he not understood why she was mad at him, had he stood there and apologised for something else entirely, questions like these kept racing through Yamato’s head as he waited for the brunette to, in some way, acknowledge his words.
When Mimi finally did raise her head and peeked at him from under her lashes, he thought the relief that filled his body would make him faint but instead, her shining eyes and the smile tugging at her lips made him feel like he was dangling on the edge of cloud nine.
“Thank you for saying that.” Her voice was faint, but the sweet smile that gradually graced her face made up for it. She tucked the strands of hair, that always framed her face perfectly, behind her ears. Her hands then shifted to the hem of her school skirt as she fidgeted with it, dropping her gaze once again before saying, “That, uh, means a lot to me.”
Finally being able to apologise, and have his apology get accepted did lift a heavy weight off of Yamato’s shoulders, but somehow watching Mimi squirm nervously under his stare made an unfamiliar feeling settle in his stomach. Perhaps he was just surprised, he thought, that Mimi wasn’t gloating over getting him to admit his mistakes or acting smug about it the way she would have done back when they’d been younger. It was just an effect of being privy to a new side of his childhood friend, he told himself, he shouldn’t attach too much meaning to something so irrelevant. Rather, he should be focusing on the fact that he had just won Mimi’s forgiveness and although in reality the two still stood rooted to their spots on the side of the pavement, Yamato felt that they had taken a huge step towards each other at that moment.
But still, just to be sure, Yamato decided that he needed to hear her say it more definitively.
“So…”
“So?” Mimi raised her eyes as she began to walk again.
“Am I forgiven?” Yamato asked nervously, as he quickly followed in her steps and settled into a pace next to her.
“That depends, am I allowed back in the coffee shop?” She stuck her tongue out at him, indicating that her spirits had been lifted and that of course Yamato was forgiven.
“I never stopped you from coming in!”
“But you acted like you didn’t want me there.”
Her teasing, sing-song voice struck a nerve with him but Yamato just rolled his eyes. Not even a full minute had passed since they’d made up and Mimi had already begun to mess with him. But this time, he wasn’t as bothered as he used to get, in fact, he welcomed her little giggles here and there since it just meant that they were back to being friends again. Being teased over little things was but a small price to pay for having Mimi’s melodic laugh back in his life.
“Yeah, yeah, you can come by any time you want.” Yamato shook his head as the two took a turn that led them down the steps towards the train station.
“Well, of course, I’m not going to come by any time, I’m going to come when you’re working!”
“That’s great. Just perfect.” He muttered under his breath dejectedly as Mimi shook with laughter next to him.
When they crossed through the gates of the station, Yamato knew that he needed to head in the opposite direction to reach his home, but he still found himself tagging along with Mimi, having wordlessly decided that he might as well drop her off till her house. The train they boarded was crowded at first which didn’t give them many chances to continue their conversation, but after a few stations, their compartment cleared and the two quickly grabbed a pair of seats together. Having settled down comfortably, and with their stop still being a bit further away, Yamato decided to bring up something that had been bothering him for a little while.
“Uh, is everything okay at school?”
His sudden question surprised Mimi and she whipped her head in his direction with an incredulous look on her face.
“Why do you ask?”
“You just looked a little down when you got out,” Yamato said, rubbing the back of his head out of an anxious habit.
“Okay, stalker.” Mimi chuckled quietly, despite the smug look she sent his way, it was easy to tell that her voice lacked a hint of humour.
“I wasn’t stalking, I was waiting for you!” He still defended himself despite knowing that she might have teased him to get on his nerves and change the subject.
“School’s the same as always, I don’t really fit in.” Mimi tried to shrug off the disappointment in her voice as she turned her gaze towards her sneakers.
“What about Koushiro?”
“He barely attends classes these days, his scores are so good that they let him do remote learning.”
“Oh. So you’re…” Yamato stopped mid-sentence, swallowing the word that was at the tip of his tongue.
“Alone.” Mimi finished for him with a dry smile, “Mostly. Unless Miyako and Hikari spare me some time or if Takeru runs into me in the hallway during lunch break.”
“I see.”
While leaving school Mimi had looked quite grim, but as she talked about it right now, the solemn look on her face made it seem like she had made her peace with the way things were. Maybe it had just been Yamato’s luck that he’d managed to catch her on a bad day. He kept this thought to himself, and even Mimi didn’t speak much for the rest of the ride. As they exited the train at the right station, Yamato wondered if he should say something to make Mimi feel better, even if it didn’t particularly look like she needed it. But since he had brought up the topic that had made the conversation go stale between them, he felt that it was his duty to do something to make things pick up pace between them again.
“College isn’t so easy either you know,” he remarked as the two passed through the exit gates, catching Mimi’s attention immediately. She motioned towards the way her house was located once they were above ground and Yamato realised that even if the neighbourhood felt familiar, it had been a long time since had last been around this area. Shaking his head, he continued to explain his own predicaments to Mimi, with the hope that it might help her feel that she wasn’t the only one struggling, “My roommate is an ass, everyone in my year is so competitive, I don’t feel like I can trust anyone enough to call them a friend.”
“Wow, you sure shouldn’t be allowed to speak to any high school seniors preparing for their entrance exams right about now.” She looked at him pointedly.
“Wait, I meant...no-jus- argh!”Yamato felt his ears go red as he realised how he’d spoken without thinking things through. He exhaled a deep breath, the sound of which drowned under Mimi’s laughter over his behaviour, in a more stable and sensible tone he added, “What I meant was that for me, college isn’t easy just like school isn’t for you. I am in no way trying to demotivate you from applying.”
“I know, I know.” Mimi grinned at him as she bumped her shoulder against his arm lightly, letting him know that yet again, she was just teasing, “Thank you for sharing that with me.”
The two walked in a comfortable silence after this and it wasn’t until Mimi’s apartment building came into sight that she suddenly spoke up.
“Things would be easier if I had just one person to lean on. Just one friend to talk to.”
Yamato stopped in his tracks and so did Mimi, a few steps ahead of him. The sight of her looking wistfully up at the light purple dusk sky, coupled with the longing reflected in her voice, spurred something inexplicable inside him. It was the first time Yamato realised how beautiful her pastel hair looked under the faint evening light, how her caramel eyes mirrored alluring gold coins as the light danced off of them, and how even at a distance her porcelain skin looked like it was soft enough to melt against his touch.
“You’ve got me.”
Though his voice was barely above a whisper, the words escaped his lips before he could control himself. He hoped that the warmth that filled his cheeks at the moment could be attributed to the weather when Mimi shifted her attention towards him with a curious look on her face. He wasn’t sure whether his words had reached her so Yamato cleared his throat loudly, attempting to get rid of any unnecessary thoughts that had begun to cloud his mind, he rephrased what he had blurted out accidentally in a more suitable manner.
“I’ll be that friend, gladly.”
“And what should I be,” Mimi fully turned herself in his direction, putting her hands behind her back, she tilted her head and with a mischievous smile playing on her lips she finished her question, “in return, for you?”
It wasn’t easy for Yamato to maintain eye contact with Mimi and not blurt something stupid out again, especially not when the stars that were now starting to appear in the sky behind her almost forming a halo around her head with their glow. Were his eyes playing tricks on him, was his heart really beating faster than it had ever before, was the heat coursing through his body not a sign of some kind of illness befalling him? How did his simple wish to make amends with Mimi over a cup of coffee make him end up here, asking questions that had never crossed his mind before?
Yamato peeled his eyes away from Mimi and looked at the ground, rubbing his neck with one hand as he answered her question, “Friendship isn’t a give and take kind of situation, you can just be yourself.”
“Deal!” She laughed and winked at him, before bowing her head slightly in thanks for accompanying her home. With a wave and a loud bye-bye, she pushed open the door to the apartment entrance and disappeared behind it.
Yamato stood at the pavement, watching her silhouette slowly fade behind the glass doors of the building entrance, only one thought circling around in his mind. He had just labelled their relationship as a friendship, even though he knew that the tightness in his chest which grew the further away Mimi got from him was not something one would feel for a friend. He raised his hand and rested it over his chest, feeling the rapid and loud beating of his heart until it gradually became normal again.
It was funny how trying to resolve things with Mimi had left him with many more unresolved feelings and thoughts, the opposite of what he had expected today’s encounter would lead to.
With a scoff Yamato turned on his heel, facing the vast sky above him he reminded himself that following his dad’s advice never did seem to work out well for him.
A Letter to You!
Hey Love!
Been a while since I could write to you about all the "nice things".
How's your place been?
I have noticed how your smile has widened since you stepped in here. It speaks, of how badly you craved this change.
The past six months have been tough, I wonder how you managed it, but you did. You did just enough to deserve this treat for you.
You look so much more open when I see you grazing the street dogs or anyone else's pet dog when I see you talk with the locals there to get your necessities and not to forget that cute little "Good night" "Hi" "Good Morning" "Bye" to the people there, all of it with a wide end smile and a bit little shy, I don't know maybe confused if they'll reciprocate back in the same way or if you are overdoing it, but just doing it cause you want to.
I see you waking up at 6 in the morn, making your own breakfast, eating what suits you not what is given to you, getting your work done anyhow cause that really really makes you feel good, and gives you a peaceful sleep to wake up the next day with the courage, knowing you are doing it. And no doubt the friends you make and connecting at your own pace. Haaaaa. Feels heavenly doesn't it?
It's not the same, as the girl I used to see every day, every morning and night in the hostel. She used to get up in the morning so that we could have breakfast together. She used to shower so that we could shower together. She used to walk, workout, or work so we could do shit together. Everything she did was more because she wanted to have it with me. Whereas, what she needed was that exact space for herself, doing it for her sanity. And she is.
I look up to you V. I really do, I know you won't believe it but it's true. And I'll keep looking out for you, to be with you, because eventually that was, is, my happiest space.
I have seen at least 3 different phases of you this year, hostel, home, Blore, and by far this is where I have seen you the happiest.
You just needed a little help from yourself to put the pieces together for you. And a cheering voice out there to let you know that- You are doing Great!
Don't worry about parents being grasped for life cause that's a matter of time when it won't even be a thing. Once you get a grasp on your life, no one else gets the chance. I repeat NO ONE ELSE.
Exams are like seasons they come and go but do they ever settle for all the time? No right. It's okay to get a bit stressed in work life, lets you know that you care about your growth, but don't ever take it to your heart. You'll have uncountable opportunities trust me. You literally have crossed one of the toughest hurdles you had all your life, do you think you really need to care about anything else?
You will definitely have your share of ups and downs but know that downs are temporary and ups are a pleasure to live with.
Lastly, people say we should always have something to come back to. Home they say, doesn't necessarily have to be your hometown, can be placed under a bridge, a bar where you meet your best friend, a street where you love wandering, anything. The one that you create for yourself with or w/o people, definitely with things that matter to you, a space of yours that you crave to be in when the day ends, when you are tired when you want to have your emotions out, know that this space will always be the one to shield you & comfort you. Along with living and figuring yourself don't forget to build that very space for you.
Thanks & Regards,
Your cheerleader,
~k.
So I've been watching Better Call Saul for the first time and about halfway through it's really hitting me hard. (Spoilers) Jimmy has spent his life getting blamed for most everything. Sometimes it's his fault, sometimes it's not. His dad gets conned by every grifter that comes along - his dad is an easy mark, and Jimmy tries to point out the scams. But when thousands are missing from the til over time, Jimmy is blamed as a thief by the family.
When he promises his brother he'll get on the right track and do good, he gets a legit mailroom job and works his ass off. He secretly does distance learning and takes the bar exam to follow in the family footsteps as a lawyer.
When his brother gets squirrelly, he supports him, getting newspapers, ice, and other supplies, often out of his own nearly empty pockets. He bends over backwards to make sure his brother gets the best care possible.
And all the while his brother plots against him, derailing every good thing Jimmy tries to do, leaving Jimmy in impossible positions and for quite a long time, letting Jimmy blame people who actually did have his back. Jimmy's brother Chuck hates him, manipulates him, and punishes him out of anger, typically anger over the consequences of Chuck's own actions.
And yet, Jimmy gets painted as the bad guy, an absolute piece of garbage with no redeeming qualities for not protecting Chuck from his own bullshit and for not throwing himself under the bus as a sacrifice to the sacrosanct Chuck.
It's a feeling I know well and I expect many caregivers know well. You do everything you can for the person you care for and they throw out abuse after abuse against you, but since they are family, since they are even legally obligated, and since the rest of the family doesn't know the full story, the caregiver is seen as a pariah, is made to feel like the most evil person on Earth.
And long story short, I think people need to take this dynamic into consideration more before screaming 'ablist' at every caregiver. Some are bad, sure, but some are doing their best and getting no credit for anything they do right, all due to drama created by the person needing the care who is simply lashing out in anger at the only person they see regularly, the only person they think of to lash out at.
Give the caregivers a break and look at the full picture before judging.
